The Azure Window, an iconic 92-ft. rock arch located in Gozo, collapsed during a storm in 2017. Despite its collapse, it remains a popular tourist attraction due to its scenic ocean landscape and thousands of years of natural history. The adjacent cliffs and rocky beaches offer picturesque settings for photo opportunities while boat rides and snorkeling are also available. However, the location has become increasingly crowded with tourists over time.
It was a sad day when this beautiful rock arch on gozo was reclaimed by a stormy sea. Adjacent to the Inland sea and blue hole diving spot. on gozo, this arch featured in many historical movies. It was wonderful to catch the small bus from Vittorio Rabat out to Dwerja. Although the arch has gone the area still has much to offer. There is a lovely little rustic tumbledown cafe on the cobbles at Inland sea which is also still a favoured diving spot.It has very dangerous undercurrents so great care must be exercised.Fungus Rock is only a short walk across the salt pans which requires sturdy shoes.
The whole area is overlooked by the 16th century Knights watchtower
A terrific Viewpoint you can easily walk up to Still worth a visit to this beautiful area.
Dennis Smalley — Google review
Unfortunately, Azure window does not exist. However, you can watch cliffs and caves with gorgeous water colors, and nearby is an amazing blue hole in which you can dive. A wonderful depth and lots of fish. Wonderful experience. I recommend.

I was so happy to visit very beautiful place. I like it so much. Goo thing is before taking boat we enter to the musium where the lady explained us very well about the place. It helped us alot and during boat trip we could understand what we see. Moreover, The guide who accompanied with boat also explwined and showed the famous places.
leh leh — Google review
Very beautiful place, but unfortunately, the arch was destroyed about 6 years ago. Use the boat trip. It is not expensive - 5€ per person.
Vakhtang Japaridze — Google review
Even though the Azur window collapsed a couple of years ago, it remains a top touristic spot to visit in Gozo.
Definitely once in a lifetime opportunity to see a collapsed nature phenomenon that has been there for thousands and thousands of years.
The surrounding cliffs and rocky beaches are perfect Instaworthy locations and you can take a boat to go on the sea or go snorkeling.
Top location in Gozo even getting a bit too touristic for my liking.
KK MOHAMMED FEROZ — Google review
The Azure Window doesn't exist anymore. Doesn't matter. It's absolutely beautiful. Take a 4 euro boat trip and discover the caves and take a closer look. We definitely enjoyed it. Must go if you are in Gozo. It can be very very hot tho in summer, don't expect to find a nice relaxing place in the shadow!
Belgin S. — Google review
So the arch has collapsed but it's still worth the time and effort. The Mediterranean Sea is incredibly beautiful. Insanely blue! The cliff walls were beautiful. I loved it 😍.
The blue in my pictures IS how blue it was that day. I have not altered my photos in any way.
Sarah Viesselmann — Google review
The boat guide let us swim in crystal clear water inside the caves, What an incredible experience
l B — Google review
The Azure window is not there anymore. The naturally formed rock faces in combination with the blue ocean is worth the visit.

It has quickly become one of the most popular tourist attractions on the islands, with visitors of all ages coming to enjoy its colorful architecture and various activities.
Really enjoyed the views and energy of all the staff. From the entrance to the post office and restaurant all staff and entertainment were on point! The shows were great for children and the views and relaxing points were perfect for adults! They offer wifi, food and drinks. You can also exit and enter again with your wristband for those iconic shots overlooking the village! A very interesting place to visit!

We took a ride share from Sliema there. Due to strong wings, the water area was closed. We received a small discount on our ticket as consideration and it was appreciated. They have a games and shows schedule for both the main park and the pool area. They have two pools. In the film set you can recognize many places from the Popeye movie, take photos and receive free popcorn and a free post card. Overall we enjoyed our time here.
Nathalie Gil de Rubio — Google review
Beautiful but very crowded. The village has a very pleasant vibe and feel to it. The staff is extremely kind and helpful and they each play a role that was assigned to them and they do it perfectly. I recommend visiting early in the morning to secure your spot, otherwise you might not be able to get it.
Nej M — Google review
Good experience, staff were very friendly and the place itself as a setting is stunning, few of the buildings there is no access but definitely worth a visit. There's really not much to do for adults or not much around it, but you are paying to see an old movie set with a great setting. Tickets were reasonable priced, and u got popcorn, a postcard, and a free drink. There were shows every 30 minutes for the kids. It's definitely worth going to, especially on a nice day for the setting.
Dean — Google review
Really really good. I cannot lie, I was not looking forward to going. But in the end it turned out brilliantly.
This is for children, if you don't have children I'm not sure this is for you.
As you would expect from something created by Hollywood it looks superb. But that is the half of it. It's not too large, basically a single street, the beach area was roped off. The houses are repurposed, there's a silversmith, face painting, games area, cinema and two cafes.
What really makes it is the fabulous cast. Fully engaging with the children...and adults. There was a puppet show, community dancing, egg and spoon race and even film making.
The only concerns are the price of food and the toilets I went into seemed too small.
There is a gift shop, another cafe at the entrance as well as crazy golf.
The cast make this place special, if you have kids, take them, they'll love it.
Highly recommended.
Clive Evans — Google review
We had a fabulous time there with the family. Our young children not only enjoyed the village, going through various houses, playing some traditional wooden games but also the different nicely timed shows including Easter parade. No doubt will be other shows during summer. Highly recommend for families.

Popeye Village is a really nice place, the view from the top is amazing. The place is very unique and you can actually observe how much work was put in it.
Tips: the village has a lot of activities: you have access to sun beds and umbrellas, you have access to the sea and i saw that the space has a lot of activities in the water for kids. For that is better to come early and take advantage of the benefits. You have access to all of that in the ticket price.
Cons: if you just want to visit the place, like I was, the price of 20 Euros for an adult is a little to much, given that in an hour you’ve covered the whole village.
Ioana-Dennis Chelmus — Google review
Really lovely, sweet place! The bay itself is beautiful and the village is really cool and fun, staff were really nice and friendly as well. Good hit of nostalgia if you're familiar with Popeye, but still fun if you don't know it. Roads to get there were a bit complicated, but well worth the visit regardless.
Michael — Google review
Very quirky place. The bay is beautiful and there are plenty of sun beds available. We chose some that were further away from the beach as it was a bit too loud down there. Otherwise very cool experience, good food and friendly staff.
Susanna M?ller — Google review
This place is a must see in Malta. The tickets cost 22€ per person and can be bought at the entrance.
The village was very nice with a lot of activities for both children and adults.
What we didn’t know is that it also offers a very good swimming zone with free sun-beds and umbrellas. So bring your swimming suits because we didn’t :))

Popeye Village is a charming and nostalgic attraction in Malta. The colorful buildings and picturesque surroundings make it a delightful spot for families and fans of the classic movie. The friendly atmosphere and fun activities for kids make it a memorable visit. A must-see when in Malta!
The swiming spot in front of th village IS Amazing, clear and clean blue water. The jellyfish are not harmful.
Djahid Saidoun — Google review
Captivating sunny coast enriched by famous sailor character wrapped in an attractive story. Popeye Village crew and the entire staff crafted a gorgeous family visit. It’s a very kids-friendly place and entertaining for the whole family. Dynamic music shows, and audience-engaging acting with amusing interaction are moments we will remember. The village offers a unique and authentic story to walk-through and see more than just behind the scenes. We had an impressive experience during our visit.
Dejan Blagaić — Google review
Popeye Village needs to be visited, explored and thoroughly enjoyed. Such a beautiful unusual setting here in Anchor Bay. 20 different structures to visit. You can get to live and take part in the remake of the film, choose your costumes, create scenes and in the end, take a copy of the recording back home with you!!! Get a boat ride in the bay. Popeye and the rest of the cast will entertain your kids with educational games. There is a vast water park in summer too. The entertainment for all is endless. A must visit for all visiting our marvelous islands.
Luiza Tanti — Google review
Wow, amazing place and very beautiful. All the people who work there are very friendly and great.🥰In the village there is so much fun things you can do and also just relax and rest. You must go there to see how wonderful this place is.💙 We were there in the morning until to the evening. Definitely ticket prize is worth the pay. Greetings from Estonia!🇪🇪 We love Popeye Village!💚
Kairi N — Google review
Beautiful place. Not an awful lot to see movie wise, but some very cool items in the comic museum. I'd suggest plan for a day out for the beach as the water obsticles are amazing!
Russ Fear — Google review
We visited Popeye Village and our experience was beautiful! I think it is mostly recommended for families and children as there are a lot of things to do and make them happy!!
The fee in the cash desk is 22€ per person, no food or drinks included, although you can go by the beach while there are a lot of sunbeds! Unfortunately the sea was not clean but I could not say if this is a due to waves reason or not.
In general terms it was a pleasant experience and the guys working in the village were truly friendly and kind!
Elena Kiloudi — Google review
Very nice place to visit, when in Malta. The entrance is 22 eur, which is not cheap, but you can spend the whole day there. Apart from the architecture, there is special program going on every hour, beautiful little beach with clear water, pool and a restaurant.
If you're coming by public transport from Valletta, be ready to spend a good amount of time in the bus. But that's just how the transportation in Malta is. No
Barbora Noskov? — Google review
Before I even went to Malta, one of the places I wanted to visit was Popeye Village, and it didn't disappoint me. From the moment we stepped through the gate to when we left, there were all sorts going on. We was first met by Popeye and Olive then we went on a tour guide and the amount of information given was enough for us to find out about how the Village came about so thank you to our guide. There was lots of dancing and the visitors were able to join in, even in the water. We then went off to explore the different buildings and how the music was done. Whilst doing this, we came out to an interactive activity that involved the visitors. There were plenty of sunbeds so you could relax in the sun, and many people were on the floating assault courses and there was lots of cheers for those who succeeded and laughter of those who didn't. The food we had was very nice and there were other activities we didn't manage to get around there is a souvenir shop to buy trinkets from. All in all, I would definitely recommend a visit to here and give yourself a full day to do everything. Thank you to all those involved in keeping Popeye alive. You certainly took me back to my childhood.
Lynda Jowett — Google review
An amazing place to go to!
There are some sort of pubs where you can eat/drink inside the Village.
The prices are reasonable, expect nothing fancy on the menu.
The price to enter the Popeye Village is €16.50.
If you go, grab the swimming gear as there are activities for kids and adult every single 2 hours and the water looks cristal clear.
Mike Tapu — Google review
Just too expensive to enter and a little bit too far considering there's not any direct bus line from Valletta.
But worth seeing once in a lifetime if you have children who's interested.
This village has been built just for filming the 1980. movie purposes and wasn't demolished after that. :)
Domagoj Pavosevic — Google review
It is one of the nicest places in Malta to visit. It’s a lovely set to walk around and specially good for children. I would recommend people at least visit once staff is friendly welcoming and they also offer free popcorn and a postcard. The ticket that I paid was €15 per person.
R B — Google review
Came here today with my wife - we had a really really fantastic time!! The staff and characters are so great and interactive as well, they did some brilliant shows and a great parade as well!
I have read a few reviews that people say half of it is closed etc. It is not that bad!! Yes a few places are closed but they are working hard to upgrade the park and you have everything else inside the park which is so well done.
Also €15 for a ticket is not bad at all in my opinion. One of the best places in Malta we have been to!! If you have an open mind and take time to look at the small details in this place it really is absolutely superb !! We will 100% re visit one day I am sure! Really excellent!!
I really recommend and give 5 stars!!
Alex Baker — Google review
Its a small but cute village. Remind me on Disneyland. (No rides tho). It's an old movie set.
You can spend about 1-2 hours there. Nest would be if u combine it with somethin else to plan your day.
Yukikase88 Sato — Google review
We went with zero expectations and had the best day of our trip to Malta! If you have children aged 3-4 years old, this is something you can’t miss. The actors are AMAZING, they interacted with our 3 year-old daughter every time, and she really felt she was hanging out with Popeye, Olive and the rest. The place might look small, but there are enough activities to spend half a day easily: face painting, parade, making your own movie, an Easter egg hunt, old style games, etc. all with the kids in mind. Thank you to all the staff for making such a lovely memory for us!
María Fernández — Google review
Great with younger kids.
Or adults with childhood memories of Popeye. 🤣
And there were many!
We had a birthday celebration here. Staff of Popeye surprise here on the stage.
Around 2 hours or more you can stay here.
Michel H — Google review
One of the nicest place of Malta. It is actually a movie set which was ultimately transformed as a tourist destination.
The location is set at a isolated place which make is more mystic.
Loved the azure blue water of the ocean.
Multiple activities for kids.
Vast resources of nature for nature lover.
Entry fee is reasonable.
Absolutely worth a visit.
Chitrita Ghosh — Google review
I would avoid this place unless you have small children or are, bizarrely, a huge fan of the Robin Williams Popeye movie.
My wife and I arrived just after 3pm (we'd read they discounted the price after 3, but they don't...). Parking is available on site or along the side of the road.
The actual attraction is in a beautiful setting - waves crashing along the coast of a very picturesque cove. This was the best thing about it.
The place is a collection of kitschy displays with mannequins - the bakery, a dentist's chair etc. They are passable. There is a mildly diverting museum about popeye, but it's on the petite side.
Throughout the day there are a lot of activities (though they may not run - they didn't do the movie tour when we were there). They are aimed at families/little children, though vary in quality. One of them we saw featured kids taking turns to roll dice while somebody announced the score they got...
It's all a bit bad though. Adults walked around bemused at the fact they paid €15 for this place. Even the staff seem aware - there are 3 freebies to try and justify the price.
I'd recommend driving up, taking a photo of the village/cove from the top of the cliffs, then leaving.
Magnificent bay, which includes the beautiful harbour of Marsaxlokk. Must see place in Malta.

(Translated by Google) This fishing village is famous for its fresh fish market open every Sunday. However, I advise you to visit it on Saturday, if you don't need to buy fish, to avoid the chaos of people who flock to the small streets by the sea. However, you will find small stalls with particular objects. From here you can take a liuzzo, a typical colorful boat, and visit the Kalanka, S. Peter pool and the salt pans. The colors on a sunny day are exceptional

Large and spacious beach. You can rent umbrellas and sun beds for reasonable prices. Clean sand and crystal clear water.
Pablo Musumeci — Google review
The long beach is nice, but very, very full. In the evening people make barbecues, which are actually forbidden. The middle of the beach is not usable because of rocks and is also relatively dirty.
The view at night over the city and church is great.
If the authorities would try to add more light and manage better the amount of sunbeds, this would become a really nice place to walk and spend time.
Sorin Mustaca — Google review
A really beautiful sandy beach!
The sun beds are also very comfortable, they have a thick mattress so you falls asleep
And also a good price 15 euros /2 sun beds one umbrella
The water is very shallow what I really like
Raúl — Google review
Gorgeous beach. Shallow water perfect for surfing wind surfing and snorkeling. Great choice of cheap cafe's and restaurants on the beach. Nice views and crystal clear waters. Large beach but limited parking space so better take a bus there. Limited toilets too
Marek Trela — Google review
Very nice, clean sandy beach. It's big, with some cafes and stores where you can buy drinks, ice cream and snacks. Also, you can rent beach chairs and parasols or you can put towel on a sand. There's a diving center, beach is long, also water is shallow for about 50m so it is nice for children.
Maja Br?arevi? — Google review
Gorgeous! Reasonable priced umbrellas and chairs to hire for the day. I wish I had been able to visit here more often during my week holiday here. It was a lovely beach. Not too overcrowded at all. Shallow out to the sea for quite some time which could be useful for the little one's. I really loved it here.
Rezveer Kaur Walia-Dwyer — Google review
A really nice beach in the North of Malta. The waters are clear and it's good for swimming all year round expect in strong north east winds. Personally I prefer the beach during the off peak seasons as during summer it attracts way too many people.
David Kenely — Google review
Amazing beach. Soooooo long. There are water sports. There is an area you can snorkel in. Cafes restaurants. Brilliant for kids. Sandy beach. One area has rock pools for the kids.
Dai Phillips — Google review
Lovely beach bay with dazzling cyan-crystalline waters and decent sand banks. Just a pity for all the ongoing constructions nearby, which definitely kill a bit the relaxation mood.
Ruben Pereira — Google review
Great beach in Malta. Also good for families. The bar has good food and fair prices. 2 sun beds for 15€. It worths staying here.
The only bad points I see are the following:
- sun beds are very close one of another
- the toilet is only a public one, quite dirty , with no sink or toilet paper

One of the most beautiful beaches in Malta, the water is nice and clean, not crowded
Citadel Cinema offers a modern and well-maintained movie experience with two cinema auditoriums. The spacious seating area provides a relaxing environment to enjoy homemade cocktails while taking in stunning sunset views of the Citadel and picturesque hills of Ta Gelmus from the modernist veranda. The cinema boasts great sound and picture quality, along with perfect air-conditioning. Booking tickets online is convenient, but arriving early is recommended due to unassigned seating.
I was a bit worried at first about the quality of the whole experience since the cinemas in Malta are... different. However, this cinema blew me away. It's a truly old-school, well-preserved gem with two screens, ticket office and toilets - that's basically it, no flashy stuff, no aggressive promotion. The place is run with care and every employee has been nothing but helpful. The quality of the sound and the image is good, and the seats are comfy. You can buy popcorn and drinks just round the corner.
Overall, I went here almost every week of the summer, and it is such a nice getaway to the old-school cinema experience!

This place is amazing live the time stopped in the old centuries. Ruins, museum, canons, stones, huge tower, this place is worth it.
You can enjoy the panoramic view from atop and follow the paths to the garden downstairs
I highly recommend it
Aby F — Google review
It is small, only 2 screens, a movie only shows for 2 weeks, but it doesn't bother with an intermission which makes it better, as well as more convenient for me, than the larger cinemas in Malta.
Melanie Wilberforce — Google review

Staff very nice and friendly.
Keep it up 👍👏

The complex has two cinema auditoriums. Well maintained with great sound and picture quality. The air-condition is perfect ( might tend to be in the fresher side). Maybe st if the times there is no intermission so take any refreshments in with you. You can book your tickets online. Try to be there a bit early because people tend not to respect the seating allocations as per ticket especially so once the lights are off. There are numerous shops selling refreshments in the area. The staff do keep the place clean but do help out and take your rubbish out with you.

Very nice little cinema.
Sound left a little to be desired as there was rattling during the loud scenes that distracted from the experience.
Overall a positive experience.
St. Peter's Pool is a picturesque, horseshoe-shaped rock formation that houses a popular natural swimming pool. The crystal clear aqua water of the pool is an ideal spot to unwind and relax in good company. Although it requires some hiking effort to reach the destination, visitors find it totally worth their time and energy. This stunning location offers a breathtaking view of the sea on sunny days and can be enjoyed by jumping into its refreshing waters. Despite the cold temperature, St.

I think you don't need to waste time visiting this place during the tourist season. It's a nice part of coast, but very crowded and it's not too exciting unless you really enjoy jumping into water over and over again surrounded by many people doing the same thing.

Unique place for relax , u can swim here if you dare (big waves) and not really beach. Getting here is ez with the car except last 300m where u need to drive narrow road which is two way road believe it or not with only 2 spots where u can actually go pass other car.

Strenuous walk here for over 60s in the group, otherwise easy enough for most. Accessible by car if you have one. Nice spot, 20-25 people here mid-December. Safe to cliff jump and accessible to swim without jumping.
Bryn Hickin — Google review
We came on a Tuesday at noon and it wasn’t busy but from 13:30 it was becoming congested. If you’re driving try to come early to secure a space because the free car park next to it isn’t big and the road leading to it is very narrow with only one car being able to fit so if you meet someone on the road good luck reversing. Luckily we didn’t have the problem but I can see it being a big issue in the summer. It’s thrilling to see people jump off into the water but no need to stay long here. You can walk around for the views and pictures if you’re not into swimming. Oh and there’s a bar but no toilet/shower facility.

Natural "pool" in a rock. Path from Marsaxlokk is around 30-40 minutes and first part is quite steep so might be good idea to bring some water. Many people jump into the "pool" and height is approx. 3-5 meters. I was there in the afternoon and it was quite busy.
Sasa Stankovic — Google review
Come earlier and enjoy this place or you might end up with nowhere to go because of people just hanging around the places where you can actually enter/go out of the water. It's a giant rock that you can walk on barefoot and jump from about 3-5 meters into the "pool". The water is very clean and you will enjoy it more if you like diving - it's full of life here. Like really a lot of fish, flies and others. But if you go straight in and out of the water you won't be bothered. I don't think it's a place to spend a whole day. The walk from Marshaliok is quite unpleasant - as any walk in Malta. It takes about 30 minutes, dusty and without a pedestrian space. Really mostly good for jumping and not that pleasant for swimming or sunbathing. But for Malta - it's a good place.
Marin “SayanMk” Kolev — Google review
Pretty cool place to see. The parking can be a bit tricky to find but the hike is short and accessible. We were here in the off season. So we had the place to ourselves. I would imagine in the summer it's crawling with people.

Haven't tried to jump in because it was cold, but it looks so great!

We went on a windy day and it was not safe to swim, however the views were still amazing and we could walk all the way down to the water. We walked there from Marsaloxx, which took about 15 minutes. Really cool place!

This might be my favourite place I visited during my whole trip to Malta. It is a long walk from Marsaxlokk, maybe 30-40 minutes, so be prepared and have water with you, but the views of Marsaxlokk Harbour along the way are very beautiful. The beach is rocky but there were lots of flat places to put our towels and it was very easy to jump in and have a swim. Cliff jumping was lots of fun and there is a beach bar at the top of the path if you need water or fancy an alcoholic drink. The landscape is stunning, the atmosphere was great, and I would definitely recommend a trip here over a visit to the Blue Lagoon if you are looking for a more chill and less touristy vibe. Bonus points if you see the local man and his dog cliff jumping together.

This seems to be one of the most popular beach spots on Malta. The water and rocks are great. I am not sure if there are toilets, though, as the kiosk sign says 'no toilets' and the place is quite far from anywhere.
Ritva Savonsaari — Google review
Decent place, interesting rock formation… you just hike down a bit from the parking. Very crowded, lots of young people coming in waves. The water is nice, you can jump from many spots or walk along the rocks and explore the coast. There’s a little cafe. There is a safety net installed in case of falling rocks which is good. You can find shade if you are lucky.

Absolutely breathtaking place. Set remotely at the southern coast of Malta, near to Marsaxlok.

B & B La Casa di Montalbano
Bed & breakfast
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Laid-back rooms, some with sea views, in a relaxed beachfront B&B with a terrace & a TV lounge.
I stayed in la Casa di Montalbano for one night. Despite a little problem of communication at the beginning, Daria and Ivana solved it very professionally. Everything was great. The informations for a self check-in very clear and precise, so i had no problems to get in. The view from the room is beautiful. One of the most amazing sunsets ever. Delicious breakfast. Its very quiet and calm inside, because of just a couple of rooms, far from the touristic noise. The sunbeds and parasols are provided in each room. Just perfect!

It’s a dream come true to visit this place, but it’s under remodeling since I don’t know when and no word on when they’re going to finish

Definitely worth the effort to get here. Is a fabulous b&b (we took the ground floor appartment and self catering only) it is a dream house to live on the beach, with the balcony giving shade from above. Punta decca has enough good bars and restaurants to make any length of stat very easy. Highly recommended.

One night in the Montalbano house. What an experience. The views on the balcony over the beach and sea are amazing. You feel like an extra in this famous Sicilian police tv show

A must b&b for fans of the hit series Montalbano. I booked directly with the hotel. We arrived late to the airport and rang the hotel who kindly arranged pick up service. The morning croissants are huge and freshly baked. They run out fast so go down to breakfast early. We had breakfast on the balcony at the table Montalbano sat at. The hotel arranges car tours for Montalbano fans to explore the island. We did this. We found the seafood restaurant where Montalbano dines too!

Clean fresh nice approach. Close to the sea. Beach 40 meters. Montalbano 100 m.

A brilliant find even without the Montalbano connection. It's clean and cared for, rooms have air con, parking easy, terrace and views wonderful.

Great location direct access to a beach. Very clean and tidy, facilities are good, cooking facilities, fridge/freezer, utensils etc. Lovely shower room and wc area. Plenty of wardrobe space and hangers shelves and drawers.

One of the undoubted highlights of my life. The location, the views, and the sunsets are outstanding. The rooms and use of the living room, dining room and terrace make this an immense joy to stay here. Ivana and her colleagues make you feel very much at home. Punta Secca is a small but perfectly formed place, may it and Casa Montalbano never change.

We didn’t actually stay in the B and B, as it was under construction, but the town was exactly what you think it would be from watching Montalbano! There’s a lovely sea breeze and wonderful walks on the beach!
Probably a bit crazy in the summer, but on an early spring day it was awesome!
Scicli, located in southeastern Sicily, is a charming and often overlooked baroque town that is now gaining attention. Its compact historic center is undergoing gentrification and is filled with cultural attractions such as churches, palaces, museums, and even served as a filming location for the TV series Inspector Montalbano. The town's flamboyant architecture tells stories of its past prosperity and grandeur.

Isola delle Correnti, also known as the Island of Currents, is a charming rustic island located at Sicily's southern tip. It offers stunning panoramic views, clear waters, and is home to a towering 19th-century lighthouse. The island's fine sugar-like sands are shaped by the opposing currents of the Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean. This creates paler colored clear waters with more waves compared to northern Sicilian beaches.
Idyllic location with a fabulous little beach bar. Crisp cold local beer and seafood fare. Absolutely unforgettable way to spend the day while travelling through Sicily.

The Cathedral of Saint George is a prominent religious landmark located in Ragusa, Italy. Constructed in the 18th century, it boasts remarkable baroque and neoclassical architecture with a prominent dome that rises above its tiered facade. A visit to this cathedral offers a significant cultural and historical experience, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the town via its grand staircase. Its magnificence has also made it recognizable as the setting for numerous scenes in the Montalbano detective series.
Absolutely lovely baroque “wedding cake” architecture! The steps up lead to a fantastic historic, cultural (and religious) experience inside! With a beautiful view of the city of Modica even the walk to the church is amazing!
Oh, and watch for it in the Montalbano detective series! It’s featured in both the opening credits and it pops up in episodes all the time!

I think it's worth visiting, if not only to admire the architecture from the inside of the cathedral, than definitely for the panoramic view on the town that its stairs offer 🌟

The Cathedral of San Giorgio in Ragusa is one of the most beautiful late baroque monuments in the city. Designed by the architect Rosario Gagliardi, it dominates the Ibla panorama with its neoclassical dome. It is a UNESCO Site since 2002. The entrance is free and there are no tickets needed. I would suggest to municipality and Cathedral management to better maintain the external area as there are many flowerbeds very dirty and also graffitis on the stairs.

Duomo of Saint George is the local parish church of Modica Alta area. A stunning baroque building set on the hillside. With many steps to climb, it's worth it for the view especially at night. The twinkling lights make it look a scene from the bible. Take the winding road upwards to the Pizzo Belvedere outlook to enjoy the best view in town.
Caroline Crutchley — Google review
Like in Ragussa, I found most of the churches in the Val di Notto most impressive from the outside, but they're definitely still worth a look inside, Modica's is particularly impressive like a three tier wedding cake.
Geoffrey Berg — Google review
A very lovely cathedral full of charm and beauty. Free to enter and worth the 2 Euro charge to go up the additional 118 steps up to the bell tower and get a wonderful view of Modica.
Ibla is a charming town located at the bottom of a hill, while Superior sits atop it. The two areas offer stunning views of each other's skylines. Ibla is part of the Ragusa province, which also includes popular destinations like Scicli, Modica, and Ispica. This region is known for its rich history, natural beauty, and exceptional cuisine, making it a must-visit for travelers seeking an authentic Italian experience.

Peaceful place to spend half a day in the nature surrounded by flamingos and other water birds which are crossing the sky above you or float graciously on the lakes or sea. The ruins of the old tonnara come to make the experience richer and the beach and the rocks invite you to explore them.

‘Hidden Gem’ - birding is fab here - we watched a Spoonbill furiously trotting and feeding through the lagoon amongst the flamingos and shrikes and reed warblers and lapwing. Gorgeous trek on the coastal path amongst fields of orchid and wild fennel and miniature iris. We ended with a swim at Calamosca beach - 15 minutes in very invigorating sea. Fascinating stop at an ancient tuna plant. A glorious escape from busy sightseeing. If you go here and are caught short needing a ‘comfort break’ please consider where you put your dirty paper - it’s not nice to see it on the path!
Suzannah Edwards-Jones — Google review
Perfect place to regain peace in yourself while you are looking at the flamingo in their happy natural habitat.
Ideal setting for taking picturesque photos, unforgettable memories like in a postcard ....It has it all from the colours changing sea water to the blue white sky with its own fantastic shaped clouds and the ruins around (especially the leftover pilar) that are making this place breathing....I could lose myself in that artistic paint.

Beautiful, busy and a long walk from a paid carpark through a paid nature reserve. Lovely fresh juice bar in the shade of the olive trees near the carpark.
Lizzie Pannell — Google review
If your looking for nature this is. A great place as there is a lake full of wild life. If you love history it's also a great place because of the history and remains of the tuna factory facilities. There is seaweed in the area that results in these perfect balls of sea weed fibres again very unique. However it also create large streches of waste which make access to swim and swimming unpleasant that's why I have rated it 4 stars otherwise for other things mentioned it's 5 stars.

We visited Eloro beach, which is stunning. You leave you car on the road just outside the reserve and there's a €3.50 entrance fee. They only accept credit cards- no cash. It's a 10- minute walk to the lovely beach. The water is clear and the sand is clean. It wasn't too crowded when we were there in September.

A nice walk but birds are so far away that most visitors couldn't really see anything. We had a scope and saw a fair few birds but it was not a particularly great birding day. We visited Apr 20 2024. Car parking costs €5 and entry €2.

Lovely natural reserve, very beautiful. There are a lot of families and the wait time to get in can be a bit long (30 - 45 minutes). Nevertheless, once you’re in, there are many great things to see and nice beaches to spend the day at.

Beach is medium sized. It has nice sand but plant debris forms a band at the waterline. Main problem when we went was that it was super windy and we couldnt put up our umbrella for shade. Water is warm and clean.
You can see the abandoned tons factory further along but that on itself is a bit boring. You can go to a birdwatching spot to see flamingoes.
Tor Chiu — Google review
A natural reserve is not about “going to the beach”, but it is rather a special place with a wild and amazing nature to connect to.
Walking the pathways all the way to Calamosca is a beautiful experience for its landscapes.
Visiting the ancient Tonnara is also beautiful and the atmosphere of the sun between the pillars is breath taking.
However, my vote is 2 because of the trash in the area which is not acceptable considering how many people are paying the ticket price.
We were here during low season. The parking was free and we had a beer with caponata in the bar. The food was excellent, the place quiet with great service. Staff was very good. The walk to the beach is no more than 20 minutes and is easy to do with sandals. Only problem is that the beach was windy. Highly recommend in a week day during low season, but I can imagine this place really busy during summer.

(Translated by Google) In reality it represents the only parking possibility to go to Calamosche beach as, on the road, the spaces are few and uncomfortable. The parking cost of €3.00 also includes the possibility of using the bathrooms and showers (which is absolutely not negligible).
The car park is a large uncultivated piece of land that can accommodate a large number of cars (perhaps more than Calamosche beach can accommodate!). Be prepared to wash your car immediately afterwards due to the very thin dirt in the parking lot.

The renowned urban staircase, constructed during the 1600s and adorned with patterned ceramic tiles in the 1950s, is highly recommended as a must-see attraction. Visitors can opt for a tuk-tuk ride to reach the top instead of climbing on foot if preferred. Exploring this picturesque site from different angles will require more than usual time and effort but it is definitely worth it.

To scale the 142 steps is surely the "#1 must do activity" when visiting Caltagirone!
The steps are punctuated on either side by many local ceramic shops and the reward for making the ascent is the fantastic view at the top.
I am admittedly unfit (but without ailments) and was a tiny bit out of breath at the top! The steps are broad, but (if your legs are long enough) can be climbed one per stride. This approach was much trickier when making the descent (resulting in an accumulation speed), and 2 steps per step proved a better rhythm.

Necropolis of Pantalica is an ancient archaeological site located in the Iblei mountains near Sortino and Ferla in Sicily. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features around 5,000 burial chambers dating back to the 13th to 7th centuries BC.
We visited this nature and archeological site just after the NY, obviously it was off season since we were in the nature all by ourselves and parked in front of entrance. Pantalica is part of three nature reserves: Naturale Orientata Pantalica, Valle dell'Anapo and Torrente Cava Grande. It is located about 35minutes from Siracusa and if you want to escape for a day in a nature- it is perfect. The road close to Pantalica is a quite narrow. Bring lot of water, we didn’t find any in the park unless is a gorge. There are couple of trails, we found one 10km long but it is also suitable for the families with the small kids as you can find shorter ones and go directly to the little river. Just after the entrance you walk along the top of gorge and the nature is beautiful. Soon you come to the first rock tombs. It is amazing you are walking through 5,000 rock-hewn tombs from the 13th to the 7th century BC

There were three points of interest on the way, with lots of interesting things within a short walking distance at every stop.

One of the most breathtakingly beautiful places I’ve ever been in. This site has several thousand tombs from 13th C BC. We were feeling adventurous and decided to do the loop. We started off in the parking lot ‘Lato Sortino’ where we parked our car. The trails are well marked in most places but there were a couple of spots where we weren’t sure and had to look around. The trails can be steep but I would not say they are dangerous at all. One of the reviews said a slip can be fatal but that isn’t true at all. We took our hike in September, still summer and hot! Bring plenty of water and bring food. The loop was about 8 km. It took us about 3 hours but we did have to double back to get to our car because the area where we left from was named differently on the trail. Serramenzana is the parking area’s name. Which is important to know if you’re doing the loop. Had to do a couple of water crossings, the last one was impossible to get across without getting wet. I wish we’d had trekking poles. This is definitely worth the effort!

Beautiful canyon, but it is not so easy to find - the way it is poorly signposted. Outside the main tourist season you can be completely yourself :-) In the canyon there is no drinking water and no refreshments. Swimming is prohibited - but no one checked. The canyon closes in the evening, but if you continue, easy to get out. Necropolis is about 2 km from the entrance to the canyon, the path to it is marked. It's a really interesting place and well worth it.

We enjoyed a beautiful walk on the pathway around the canyon, and got to see many interesting tombs and beautiful views. The maps and signs are a bit challenging to follow, but it was a fun wander in any case!

Brilliant for trekking and adventure. We got to stop and swim in the freezing water of the natural waterfall which is a must !! You must have good shoes and watch your step as the road is rather bumpy with stones.
The Cathedral of Syracuse, a remarkable religious edifice, was constructed in the 7th century and boasts an impressive baroque facade adorned with statues. This stunning structure is an extraordinary fusion of ancient pagan architecture and Christian Baroque influences. The cathedral's unique design includes remnants of the Minerva Temple dating from ancient times, which were built on top of ruins from a sixth-century BC Athena temple.
The cathedral of Syracuse is of a beauty that leaves you speechless: a concentration of art, architecture, history and culture. Officially named the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Nativity of Maria Santissima, stands on the elevated part of the island of Ortigia, incorporating what was the main sacred temple in the Doric style of the Syrakousai polis, dedicated to Athena (Minerva) and converted into a church with the advent of Christianity.
It became part of the heritage protected by UNESCO as a world heritage site.
We took several pictures of its houses statues, relics and remains of Syracusan saints, martyrs and nobles, in particolare related to Lucia of Syracuse, known as Santa Lucia, which was a Christian martyr of the early 4th century. Absolutely to visit. ⛪️🔔🥰

Grand front and relatively plainer interior. But the Doric columns from the ancient temple 🛕 are a fascinating aspect of the interior structure. Also the interior chapel dedicated to Saint Agatha is quite interesting, including a video of the annual procession.

It’s very famous and also it’s history is very interesting which combines the Greek and Roman architect styles, it’s built BC and lasts till AD. It’s not very fancy and “wow” inside. The silver statue only goes out showing the public twice a year and actually no chance u will see it any other days of the year. There’s a miniature and video tho. Entrance fee 2€.

Lovely Cathedral in Ortega island Syracuse. We were lucky and arrived just as a military wedding was leaving the church. Exit was carried out in great style and the Piazza Duomo is one of the prettiest in Italy.
Cathedral is very interesting as it is built on a pre christian Greek temple and makes use of the original ionic or doric columns, very large and cut from a single piece of stone

Breathtaking architecture, beautiful building built on the site of an ancient temple of Athena (you can still see the Doric columns from that era inside!). Stunning work, definitely worth visiting in Ortigia.

What a unique and wonderful place! The architecture is a wonderful mix of styles from the past two millennia. A must see for history enthusiasts. Elements of an ancient Greek temple, byzantine conversion, Norman occupation and baroque architecture along with the relics and frescos make this a must on any stop in Syracuse.

The cathedral is a stunning blend of pagan architecture and a Baroque Christian church. The cathedral incorporates the remains of the ancient Minerva Temple, which was erected on the remains of a sixth-century BC Athena temple.

Amazing experience, so special and humbling to walk around in a place with this much history. Absolutely worth the small admission fee of 2 euros.
We visited on a fairly calm Wednesday in May and everything was pretty accessible, no waiting times.

It's worth visiting since you will find way more than the cathedral. The cost was €2 which I do believe to be fair given what you will get access to.

Syracuse Cathedral, located in the heart of the historic city of Syracuse in Sicily, is a magnificent religious landmark that captures the essence of the region's rich history and architectural splendor. Steeped in ancient charm, this grand cathedral stands as a testament to the city's cultural and religious heritage. The interior of the cathedral is equally captivating, with intricate frescoes, ornate sculptures, and stunning stained glass windows that bathe the space in a warm, ethereal glow. The attention to detail and craftsmanship displayed in the artwork and decorations is truly remarkable, reflecting the dedication and skill of the artists who contributed to its creation.

During an early morning walk, we decided to visit this magnificent Cathedral of Syracuse. As they just opened, there was no queue and after paying the entry ticket of €2 each we walked in. The Cathedral is beautiful and well maintained. It is worth the visit and if you don’t want people ruining your pictures, I really recommend going in the early morning. It’s much quieter and you have time to explore it without been disturbed by others.

Amazing cathedral built around the 7th century. Its architecture and design are second to none and rival that of other cathedrals built before and after its time. We didn't get a chance to go inside but it is a sight to be seen if you're visiting Siracusa

Ortigia Island is a charming and historic island situated in Siracusa, Sicily. It boasts of beautiful stone buildings, squares, a temple, shops, eateries and a small beach. Connected to the mainland by two bridges, it is predominantly pedestrian with winding alleyways that create an ideal environment for losing oneself. The western part of the island has some of the best restaurants making it perfect for evening menu browsing.
Spent five days enjoying the walled island and as a base for exploring further. Slept well, eat very well, swam when calm enough.

The island of Ortigia is known all over the world for its unique beauty. In fact, we were speechless in front of the charm of this land, surrounded by a beautiful crystalline sea and full of characteristic streets, places, monuments and many churches, all to visit. Unfortunately, we cannot make you feel its scents all around, both those of the vegetation and those that came from the clear waters that surround Ortigia. A MUST not to be missed during a trip in Sicily. 🥰🌊🌹🌸🌺💒🏘

Beatiful historical part of Siracusa. One of my favourite place in Sicily. I would walk hours and hours through that pictoresque baroque streets. On every step you can find something interesting. Plenty of restaurants, caffes, artisan shops everywhere. Duomo is beautiful. But the most magical part is watching the sunset on promenade. I love Ortigia especially becuase it wasn't so touristy as Taormina and allowing you to relax.

Entry tickets for museum or churches are quite cheap and worth the visit. It is one of the best places in south Italy and needs to be visited once in a lifetime!

A bit touristy but very nice part of eastern Sicily. Lovely views in the town and around the coast, Piazza Duomo is very picturesque and whole area has a delightful ambience.
There should be no difficulty in getting great food here and huge variety in restaurants, cafes etc. Not overly expensive, much better value than Taormina.
The Neapolis archaeological area boasts a stunning outdoor amphitheatre, the Teatro Greco, crafted from the rock of a hillside. A masterpiece of classical design, it could accommodate up to 16,000 spectators and hosted plays by notable writers such as Sophocles and Euripides. Aeschylus's last tragedies were staged here in his presence including The Persians, Prometheus Bound and Prometheus Unbound.
It's so interesting to get to visit a place that was built in century V B.C.! Really impressive. It's in such a good state that they are currently (April 2024) adding modern bleachers on top of the original to hold concerts soon!

Don’t waste your time to see theater while spending 13€. It’s covered by a new stage, lights, benches … for performances that taking place. So you can’t really see how it really looks like. Be careful, staff doesn’t inform you about this.
Radek Svoboda — Google review
A disappointing joke of an attraction. These people are scammers. They have increased their prices to €13 and you don’t even see the Greek theatre which is supposed to be the main attraction. Instead you see the site which is covered by a wooden frame for seating because they host events. This was not told to us before we paid for our ticket.
Not to mention all of the signage around the site is useless and unreadable. There should be well kept signs for people to read the history.
It’s a wonder where the money from ticket sales goes because it’s certainly not to the upkeep of this sad excuse for a famous attraction.
Do not waste your time and money, avoid this scam!!!

Amazing site! Must see if you have time. So much history. I do agree with other reviews saying there wasn’t too much information posted around the site to learn about the history. We still enjoyed it.
The only negative was the ticket booth. They had 3-4 employees but only two lines open and it was VERY slow.
Los Notes — Google review
It's more of a construction site, than an ancient theatre these days. You are not allowed to explore freely and if you ask me, because of the new instalments it has lost the charm it used to have (looking at the old pictures).

Probably the worst managed site of Roman and Greek antiquity I’ve ever visited. The signposting is confusing, there are no explanatory boards, the Greek theatre looks like a building site and is covered with building materials and plain ugly, staff is lacklustre, and there’s no good parking.
It could be so much more than it is, if only the local authorities (or whoever is in charge here) put some effort into making the site the top attraction that it could be. It’s not worth the €16 entry fee at present.

Teatro Greco is one of the oldest amphitheatres and surprisingly it in great condition. They still use the amphitheatre for shows throughout the year and it's something that needs to be visited if you're coming to Siracusa. Among the other sites this one tops the list. The entry to the site is reasonable as there are a few notable places to visit. If you're a teacher you get free entry however I'm not sure about whether this applies to international teachers.
Michael Sacco — Google review
Fantastic ancient site made even better with some beautiful sculptures on the trail. The only disappointment was that the Greek amphitheatre itself was entirely covered in wooden seating so the original really couldn’t be seen. I don’t know if that is always the case but that was a shame. Good cafes on site and plenty of toilet facilities around the site as well.

Very nice and large theater. When we were there, we couldn’t get on the “stage” area. Only around and on top. Looked really beautiful, but missing a lot of information signs on what they did there in the old times.

This place is really cool, we went without a tour guide so there were not any explanations. The thing that was annoying was the fact that the paths were limited and it felt that the closed paths had suc a great potential for seeing better and having a better understanding of what you can see. Overall if you love history it is a cool place to see. Getting a guide is mandatory if you don't know too much about the history of the place.

We were surprised by the size of the ruins which include two amphitheaters and a huge stone quarry. The audiotour helped a lot and it was fun to have our capuccino of the day outside the ticket kiosk.
Ear of Dionysius is a cave located in a limestone quarry more than 20 meters high, that houses an archaeological park of Neapolis. The cave has the peculiarity of providing acoustics that are exceptional, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sicily.
This place is high on my list of the top sightseeing sites in Sicily 🌟 tremendously beautiful with all its nature and ancient architecture. Plus, the "ear's effect" makes up for a magical moment - when I was visiting, I heard one lady sing there when I was still far and surrounded by nature. It's just amazing how the sound spreads in this place

It’s an impressive limestone cave that resembles the shape of a human ear, hence its name. Stepping inside this natural wonder, visitors are immediately struck by its extraordinary acoustics. I gave it 4 stars for this objective in particular but the overall archeological area is amazing and great to walk around. This S-shape entry is very tall and a bit gloomy toward its end. There is no light installed and a mobile phone torch barely makes a difference. So bring in a flashlight if you are curious. The acoustic is normal in my opinion. I've observed better acoustics in caves.

We came in January 2024 and it was not busy so we could take our time with the sites. A few tracks were either closed for maintenance/ restoration works so it made it difficult to give 5 stars as we couldn't see everything. We are English speakers and felt the information provided was sufficient. Cost was reasonable and if you're a teacher (local in Italy) you get free entry. Not sure whether the same applies to international teachers.

It's really great to see the history... but for some reason, they have put very weird colored sculptures in the site. Looks tacky and really takes away from the natural beauty. It was hard to take a great picture while trying to avoid them.... very weird indeed

An acoustic marvel.
Used not only as a sister but as a prison. This is part of a quarry had a roof on its up until the sixteen forties when an earthquake caused it to collapse.
In this fashion the workers could work in the shade and in the coolness of the quarry itself.
If you come to Sicily this is a must see. It is an archeological wonder there are Greek and Roman theaters here Greek amphitheater's, Roman arenas.
The columns that you see in the photographs were what supported the roof...

We visited this park in January and there was few visitors there. We was a little bit disappointed that some of the sights and paths were closed. We had a good time anyway and the attractions are well worth the ticket price. Some more information boards would be welcomed so we could easily understand what the different sights were.
Great for your friends if they are up for the challenge of a 60-meter drop at 27 meters per second.

The variety of attractions and entertainment options available make it a great destination for a day of fun and relaxation. One of the highlights of Etnaland is its range of water rides and pools. The water park provides a refreshing escape, especially during hot days. The variety of slides and pools cater to different age groups, making it a family-friendly environment. The park also boasts a good selection of amusement rides and shows, providing entertainment for visitors of all ages. The efforts put into maintaining the rides and ensuring safety standards are commendable, contributing to an overall positive experience. However, there are a few areas that could be improved to elevate the park's rating. While the park does offer diverse attractions, some areas might benefit from additional theming and ambiance enhancement. Furthermore, the dining options could be more varied, with a focus on offering a wider range of food choices to cater to different tastes. In summary, it provides an enjoyable day out with its mix of water and amusement attractions. While there is room for improvement in terms of theming and dining variety, the overall experience is positive and warrants a solid 4-star rating.

The 16th century Monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena is an immense and impressive example of Baroque architecture. It is now part of the University of Catania campus and you are free to explore it. The museum inside the monastery has a small contemporary art gallery, while the church of San Benedetto dominates the scene.
This is a beautiful complex with a fascinating history. It is well worth visiting. I recommend doing the English tour if you don't understand Italian. I did the Italian tour where they give you an English book to follow along, but I found it difficult to follow along, even though I understand some Italian. I found myself missing a lot of the stories and context, and I wished I had done the English tour instead. Even so, it was very interesting. Be aware that there are many stairs, which was difficult for me as I am recovering from a broken ankle.

One of our best experience in Catania was the (English) guided tour of the monastery (well, university). You can not really visit without the tour, specially during the summer when the University is closed. The tour costs 9 euros and lasts a out 1h20m.
If you go on Saturday (maybe Sunday as well, don't remember), you can also visit the director's office which is not available during weekdays.
There is a bunch of really nice information about the monastery/university but also about the city itself that the guide does a very good job to share with everyone. Highly recommended.

Step in and touch the history...This ancient monastery which has survived and earthquake, then rebuilt; reached by the lava of Etna and survived; taken by the state and turned into gym, school, barracks, university etc. And still standing proud in Catania! Don't hesitate and take a guided tour - it is €8 per person, takes around 70 minutes and you would be able to understand more behind each hall and the story behind it. From the different garden and their meaning up to the underground and the kitchen area! Worth seeing it!

If you're looking for a unique and fascinating experience in Catania, look no further than the Monastero dei Benedettini di San Nicolò l'Arena. This ancient monastery has been through it all, surviving earthquakes, lava flows from Mount Etna, and even being repurposed over the years as a gym, school, barracks, and university. Yet, even after all of that, it still stands tall and proud in the heart of Catania.
I highly recommend taking a guided tour of the monastery to truly appreciate its history and significance. For just €8 per person, you'll receive a 70-minute tour that will take you through each hall and help you understand the story behind it. From the different gardens and their meanings to the underground area and kitchen, you'll get a glimpse into the past and how the monks lived.

The Catholic Cathedral of Saint Agatha is a beautiful and historical building. It has been through many transformations over the years, from a Greek temple to a Norman church to a Baroque cathedral. There are many interesting features about this cathedral, such as its columned facade, domed roof, and frescoes and paintings. Saint Agatha is the patron saint of Catania, and her name is everywhere throughout the city.
Beautiful church that was built in the 1200 and 1700 AD. They found an ancient Roman bath underneath. Make sure to go behind the church and see the stones from the 1200's. Incredible they survived earthquakes and labs from Mount Etna. The remains of Bellini is there.

Bazilica has some awkward working hours but basically at night it’s always open. If you’re lucky you’ll be part of some ceremony and there are a lot of weddings happening here. Entrance was free. Basilica inside is really nice but as the rest of the city everything is ruined by the smell of the garbage that is all around the main city Square and it’s streets.

The most beautiful point of view of Catania.
Don’t forget to go to the Diocecian Museum just net to the Carlos V door. With the ticket you can access to the Achiles Bath ruins just under the Cathedral.
If you look carefully, a little river falls into the sea under the fountain. The Cathedral itself is build over the rest of an antique Roman (Greek?) bath. Who know how big this structure was…

Saint Agatha is a symbol of the city of Catania. According to legend, she stopped the flow of lava that sought to destroy Catania.
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Agatha was the seat of the Bishops of Catania until 1859, when the diocese was elevated to an archdiocese, and since then has been the seat of the Archbishops of Catania.
The cathedral has been destroyed and rebuilt several times because of earthquakes and eruptions of the nearby Mount Etna. It was originally constructed in 1078–1093, on the ruins of the ancient Roman Achillean Baths, by order of Roger I of Sicily, who had conquered the city from the Islamic emirate of Sicily. At the time it had the appearance of a fortified church.
In 1169 it was almost entirely destroyed by an earthquake, leaving only the apse area intact. Further damage was caused by a fire in 1169, but the most catastrophic event was the 1693 earthquake, which again left it mostly in ruins. It was subsequently rebuilt in Baroque style.
Today, traces of the original Norman edifice include part of the transept, the two towers and the three semicircular apses, composed of large lava stones, most of them recovered from imperial Roman buildings.
In 1711 Gian Battista Vaccarini designed a new Baroque façade.
It has three levels with Corinthian columns in granite, perhaps taken from the Roman Theatre of the city. All the orders are decorated with marble statues of Saint Agatha over the gate, Saint Euplius on the right and Saint Birillus on the left. The main door, in wood, has 32 sculpted plaques with episodes of the life and martyrdom of Saint Agatha, papal coats of arms and symbols of Christianity.
There is a the tomb of the great composer Vincenzo Bellini, who was born in Catania inside the cathedral.

The Cathedral Di Sant'Agata of Catania is a stunning example of Baroque architecture and a must-see for anyone visiting the city. Dedicated to the patron saint of Catania, this cathedral is an important religious and cultural landmark that showcases the unique style of Sicilian Baroque.
The cathedral's interior is filled with ornate decorations, including intricate frescoes, sculptures, and gold leaf accents. The main altar features a beautiful statue of Sant'Agata, and the chapel of the Holy Sacrament is adorned with stunning mosaics.
Visitors can also admire the cathedral's impressive organ, one of the largest in Europe, and climb the bell tower for panoramic views of the city.
Overall, the Cathedral Di Sant'Agata of Catania is a breathtaking attraction that offers a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the city. Whether you're a history buff, an architecture aficionado, or just looking for a beautiful place to visit, this cathedral is not to be missed.

Mt. Etna is an active volcano rising to 10,922 feet, featuring a scenic train ride, 2 ski sections and a cable car to the crater. Located on its northern side is the Cottanera winery run by many women including Mariangela Cambria who has produced exceptional wines, standing out among competitors. The vineyard team comprises of 25 female workers in contrast with the male-dominated industry of winemaking.
If you are looking for an adventure-packed trip, visiting Mount Etna would be the perfect choice for you. As a majestic volcano situated in the heart of Sicily, Mount Etna offers an experience like no other. The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking, with an array of natural wonders that will leave you stunned.
One of the most interesting things about this volcano is its tendency to erupt quite frequently. This means that you will be able to witness nature's fury up close and personal, which can be an awe-inspiring experience. The combination of sun, snow, sea, sky, and lava all in one place makes this spot truly spectacular.
Moreover, you can even take a walk around the volcano to get a closer look at the lava. It's a unique opportunity that you won't find anywhere else. The feeling of being able to experience something so natural and powerful is remarkable.
Overall, if you are an outdoor enthusiast looking for a thrilling and unique destination, Mount Etna is definitely worth the trip. The beauty and grandeur of this incredible volcanic mountain are well worth exploring. Bellissimo!

Etna volcano is beautiful. If someone feels strong enough you can go up on your own. The first stage is said to be the most difficult. Because we had only time till 4pm, we went up the mountain by a cable car, then by a 4x4 car with a guide. And here we were very disappointed. Because Etna was active 6 weeks earlier, going to the top was forbidden. Our guide took us to one of the craters 3 minutes away from the car, saying two words and that is it. I can read more on the internet than I have received info from a paid guide. I recommend going up the cable car and then walking up the hill. The second stage is obtainable and you don't have to waste money on the 4x4 bus.
You can go to Etna by public transport 8h15 from Catania, arrive around 10h15 for €6,60 one way in April 2022 and then decide how far you want to go and how.
Take drinks, suncream, hats, windproof jackets and hiking shoes with you.
Enjoy the hike 🙂, enjoy Sicily 😁

Beautiful place, feels like being on the moon, cable car cost 50 euro to go up on the Vulcan, going with bus cost 79 euro for one person, walking around and see crater 2001 year, it is free but you need to walk up of the crater, it makes tired but worth it to go.
Ketevan Bitskinashvili — Google review
Absolutely stunning, must-see place when visiting Sicily.
Paid parking (half day or full day), but entrance to the mountain itself and its craters are free if you don’t mind the hike, otherwise be ready to pay up 50€ per person to take the cable car up and down the mountain. Payments accepted with cash or card.
There is a shop near the summit with tons of food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages and tasty arancini. Restrooms available there as well, climate controlled and seating places.
Souvenir shops everywhere, so don’t worry if you miss one at the bottom, there will be more at the station where the cable card takes you up to.
Bring the right shoes for this, and cover up properly during the colder months. Be prepared for powerful winds!
Please be sure to take your trash with you 🙏🏼

Amazing experience to climb up Etna. Top of the mountain is very cold, so make sure to wear warm cloths. We went up with a guide, cost 75 euro (maybe try to find cheaper options, as I booked last minute).

A must go, and one and done. We took the private 4x4 experience. I think much better than utilizing the cable car. Set it up in advance. However, would love to get closer. There is another tour with a special vehicle that takes you higher. If you’re a real adventurer then I would seek this out. If you prefer the dead crater and volcanic tubes then the 4x4 is for you.

Embarking on a journey to Mount Etna left us truly awestruck. The landscape, reminiscent of a lunar paradise, transported us to another realm. Our post-August 2023 visit added a touch of enchantment to an already remarkable site. This adventure is an absolute essential for all wanderers.
Here are some practical insights:
- The drive from Syracuse takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
- During our August visit, the summit's chill surprised us. While a sweater was enough for the 20-30 minutes we spent at the top, temperatures were milder below 2920m.
- Strangely, we didn't make any reservations beforehand, and it didn't pose any challenges.
- For 78€, we enjoyed a funicular ride (15-20 minutes), a bus journey (15-20 minutes), and a 45-minute guided tour of Etna's main craters. This option suits those who can navigate to the site independently. The concise stroll covers Etna's main highlights (given the cold, a longer tour might be less cozy).
- Parking was both complimentary and convenient.
- Opting for an August afternoon visit proved delightful, as the site was pleasantly uncrowded.
- The panoramic view from the summit is simply breathtaking.
To sum up, without a shadow of a doubt, this experience is worth every moment and comes with our wholehearted recommendation to all Sicily explorers

Beautiful lunar landscape, wonderful panorama and views of Sicily. Sometimes a strong wind, so we had to rent jackets at the top station of the cable car for 5 euros. A challenging but beautiful experience.🙂

Too much money for nothing. I espected to get more closer to vulcano, but that is not possible. You can spent whole day there climbing if you have equpment for hiking. Shoes (stones can be sharp) and jacket are must because if it is windy it is cold.
Those bills are price for 2 persons for cable car and bus with tour guide. He said few sentances when we went out from bus in English and after that spoke in Italian. Didn't said more than I red on internet.
Price 136€ for 2.🙄😡👎

Active volcano in Sicily, and you must definitely go visit here at least once.
Unfortunately, I missed the chance to go all the way up to see the lava, but I enjoyed walking around the volcano and viewing its landscapes.
Also, don't forget to bring a light jacket with you since it's gets quite cold when you go higher.

I climbed Etna a couple of years ago – it was a very strong impression. Extremely unusual landscapes, absence of any life, landscape as if you were on another planet.
You can go up either by bus or on foot. We climbed on foot - difficult, but accessible with moderate physical fitness.
If you are still wondering whether it’s worth going here, it’s definitely worth it.

Cheap public transportation to go from Catania: We took the bus operated by AST S.p.A., Catania - Etna. There is only bus leaving from Catania at 8:30 and same bus coming back from Etna 16:30. You can buy ticket from the ticket office near the central station/ bus terminal, 6.6€ / person two-way, with a little commission fee.
Local Tour: On the bus, they also offer Trekking Tour with local guide, which would allow you to hike to the top of the mountains. Without local guide, you are not allowed to go above ~3000m height. You might want to ask Italian or European travellers on the same bus to compare the price as we as Asian tourists were offered a slightly higher price than others. We didn't take that tour.
After arrival, we purchased the cable car combined with mini bus to arrive at around 3000 meter hight and walked around there. Although the combined ticket should include some local guide, we only had a guy leading us the way up, no voice over.
Other info : there is free toilet both at the entry and arrival points of the cable car. It's quite chill on top so bring a jacket along. Otherwise you can also rent jacket and hiking shoes at the arrival point of the cable car. Although it's chill and you might not realise it, the UV is quite strong there. So be careful to not get sunburn. It's quite dusty driving with the mini Bus, you might want a mask just in case.

We really enjoyed this place! When we visited 06.04.24 the weather was wonderful. From the balcony you could see Mountain Etna and the beatiful sea. We had a nice walk in the gardens then we stopped for a coffee and ice cream and we enjoyed as well the flowers, the atmosphere. Anyway it is a pitty that the constructions look like they gonna fall every moment. Happily we discovered a private terrace where we could enjoy the view to mount Etna a bit more. This place is worth to visit, has no costs and show the beauty of Taormina. We would love to be back one day again there. 🥰❤️

A beautiful garden which was built by an Englishwoman with a great mix of facilities.
It has some lovely terraces with lovely views over the sea and Taormina together with Mount Etna in the distance.
It also has a series of follies, some aviaries (2 parrots was all we spotted la children's playground and some outdoor exercise areas. There are plenty of benches and at the far end some stones that look good for a picnic. Some of the buildings were fenced off and there are no toilets within the park.
We went in late May about 11.00 and it was quite quiet.

One of the most beautiful parks that I have seen; very diverse flora, nice arrangement of paths, nice view points of mount Etna and surroundings and so interesting multi-leveled buildings, combining bricks and wood in an unique style for a park, which remind me of Indiana Jones/Tomb raider structures (found in the jungles).

The ancient Greco-Roman theater in Taormina, known as Teatro Antico di Taormina, is now a popular venue for entertainment events. It offers breathtaking views of Mount Etna and is best experienced during the early morning hours to avoid crowds. The theater's horseshoe shape and ingenious Greek architecture create an impression of it floating between the sea and sky, with Mount Etna providing a misty backdrop in the distance.
And what review can you ever make in front of a show of such as show? Pure wonder dated 3rd century BC Nature, art and history are the three ingredients of Taormina's international success that make the Pearl of the Ionian one of the most popular destinations since modern tourism has existed. In particular, its Ancient Theater is the main attraction that has always conquered generations and generations of visitors.

Amazing, beautiful, just pure in awe when we
visited here today. The architecture and the way the structure has stood the test of roughly 2300 yrs is just mind boggling!! Amazing views of the ocean and Taormina landscapes!! Highly recommended if your even slightly into history!! I couldn't stop saying "Wow, this is beautiful, this is amazing!! I'm from the USA and you can literally barely find anything architecturally stunning like this in the States!! 🤘👍👍👍

4 stars for the views, 3 for the theater. Instead of historical preservation, they have installed lights and speaker systems, modern railings, plywood walkways, etc. The additions detract from the historic beauty of the old theater, and removing them would improve the experience many times over. I have been to many Greek theaters around the Mediterranean and never seen one so contaminated. It is a beautiful setting with rich history, and it could be so much better!

If you're visiting Taormina you need to see the Teatro Antico di Taormina. We went early to avoid the crowds but if you're going in winter don't worry about this as there were very crowds. The views are astounding and you can see Mount Etna in the distance. As you sit in the seats you can't help but feel transported to a different time and you can't help but think what life, and the shows/play, were like back then. Simply amazing.

A must when in Taormina. Stunning views of the city, Etna, and the coast. The Teatro is stunning. Very historical. We LOVED our visit to this historical landmark. Arrive early because it gets busy later in morning and afternoon.
Michael Mack — Google review
The theater itself is great. The fact that it is still used for actual plays is both impressive and a bit annoying, as the modern upgrades take away from its ancient charm. It is massive and still going strong after so many years. It's location is probably what makes i more attractive, being up a mountain and with breathtaking view over the beaches and coast. Entry is 10 euros and some may consider it a bit much (since there is not much to do), but you really pay for the view and awesome lookout spots in an ancient site. The queue gets long in the afternoon, so you might want to go before noon.

Great view from the theater. The place itself has a lot of history and it's very well kept and maintained. The view of the surroundings is amazing! You see the beaches, the mountains and everything in between. We decided to see if the line was long before buying tickets. We usually buy ahead, but the weather had been questionable that day. Our decision to wait was a just fine. We decided not to join a tour, and opted for the audio tour instead. I know we were overcharged for that decision. Nevertheless, it was the correct decision for us as seniors who were already tired and hot from the day.
We loved it! Even though the movie screen from the film festival blocked the view and the plastic chairs covered the stone seats, it was worth every euro and every minute and every step of the climb up. The best part were the views. I highly recommend spending time at the top and going to the cafe where you can climb the stairs. We happened to have a clear view in that moment and it was beyond fabulous. I think the tour would have enhanced our knowledge, but it didn’t matter. We loved it.

Highly recommend to go to the theater in the morning when it just opens, especially before the large amount of your groups arrive.
Love the view - having Ancient Greek theater and the volcano in the same view is just surreal. Also remember to walk around the theater, the viewpoint next to the cafe has amazing panorama view to the ocean.
Didn’t got a chance to check out performances in the theater, but think it would be quite a cool experience!

I hesitated on paying a whopping €12 to see ruins when I have seen SO many Greco-Roman amphitheaters in my life. I’m so glad I did in the end as the setting is just gorgeous and the views, oh the wonderful, wonderful views!! from the ruins are worth every euro. There are placards in English and Italian explaining the history of the site which was much appreciated, and a very cool video depicting how the site might have looked centuries ago. Great visualisation!
Some people had audio guides so I have no idea if they were included?! I didn’t need them with the English language placards before entering the site.
Very well-maintained site. Café at the top is surprisingly not expensive and my vegan spinach and pumpkin dough pocket was delicious! Can’t say the same for the butter and chocolate biscuits though: tasteless and dry.

The ancient theatre of Taormina (Teatro antico di Taormina) is an ancient Greek theatre in the picturesque Taormina, Sicily, built in the third century BC. The remains of another Hellenistic building have been found under the Roman cavea. Under Roman rule, the theatre was rebuilt, probably around the time of Hadrian. It was remodelled in the third century AD, with the orchestra turned into an arena and the stage removed. Apart from it's historical significance, it offers a spectacular view of Etna in the distance. A must-visit landmark in Taormina ❤️

Rebuilt sanctuary on a bluff known for its centuries-old Black Madonna statue & vast sea views.
Most Beautiful Chapel on the Island!
Quite possibly the most beautiful chapel I have ever seen. I can’t imagine how long this must have taken to build. It is so ornate throughout. From the amazing stained glass to the marble floors to the most beautiful mosaics I’ve ever seen.
This would have been difficult anywhere, but you add the fact that it is on top of a giant mountain from centuries ago? No idea how they did this. And it’s gorgeous on the outside as well, with an incredible view.
If you only get to visit one chapel in Sicily, make it this one! Absolutely worth your time (you can even visit the Roman ruins next door).
Also, there’s free parking part way up and a bit of a walk to the chapel. Be prepared to walk through several vendors, but I recommend getting some flavored peanuts to make the rest of your day more flavorful.

The Pool of Venus is a picturesque nature preserve located at the end of a scenic footpath on the tip of a peninsula in Milazzo. The pool, with crystal clear waters and rocky edges, is surrounded by cacti, flowers, and olive trees that lead to the rugged coast. Visitors can enjoy an excellent hike starting from Marina Port Lungo-Mare and walking along the westward shoreline before crossing the spine of the peninsula to reach famous landmarks like the sanctuary, cape, castle or fortress.
Very beautiful place to visit, very characteristic and ideal for moments of relaxation in nature. The route to get there is good but obviously it goes down a bit. You must pay attention in the swimming pool area to the slippery rocks placed in the water. The backdrops are fantastic. Snorkelling in these waters is a cathartic experience. In addition to the Venus pool there are also other more secluded pools among the rocks.

We went off season, early October towards the end of the day. The water was stunning and the sunset even more beautiful. Worth the trek down and up the rocky steps. Don’t be a dumb dumb and forget your swim shorts in the car. 🙃

Family and god friendly “pool” only if you don’t have any stroller. Definitely not ADA accessible. Besides the stairs problem (easy to walk for those who have no particular problems) is an amazing place. Background of lots of Sicilian weddings.

Beautiful spot, lacking shade and since it’s a protected area you cannot take your umbrella. I strongly recommend snorkelling in the area around until the cave.

Went there on a cloudy day, still quite beautiful, cause the sea is so blue and somewhere the sea even glows! Very Rocky Mountain! I like yellow khaki rocks with cactus 🌵 , look so hardcore!

Extraordinary place. After going trought a marvellous field of ancient olive trees we went down 130 steps we took a wonderful bath in a magic water full of fishes. Free entrance. I suggest going early in the morning as in the summer when the sun rises temperature goes up very fast and coming up againg is a hard work.

Small water cap within natural reserve. Great quiet reserve. Officially forbidden to enter but looks that unofficially everyone approves even some CCTV in operation ;-)
Anyhow 1120m from parking, some 130m down to water but then you will enjoy the place!

What an idyllic spot - a true little paradise!
We couldn't get enough of the view - nature´s best in all its glory. Totally worth the visit!

Super beautiful isolated pool at the end of a lovely nature walk. The pool has a natural wave break so it's very calm and still. There's lots of wildlife in the rock pools and pool - sit still a moment and watch for glass shrimp, crabs, hermit crabs, fish, and even eels!
The rocks are sometimes sharp, so be careful when walking barefoot. In the water they are smooth, but can be slippy!
The water is lovely and warm - we took a dip in mid-November!

excellent as a hike walking all the way from the marina Port lungo-mare in downtown milazzo. start off going along the westward shoreline; and then on the way back walk across the spine of the peninsula to reach the famous sanctuary, cape, castle, fortress, etc
