If you’re going on a road trip from the San Martin de los Andes to Puerto Madryn, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with Neuquen, as well as top places to visit like Alquimia and Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves y Beata Laura Vicuña, or the ever-popular Parque Via Christi.
Neuquén, situated in the eastern part of the Argentine province with the same name, serves as both its capital city and that of Confluencia Department. The area occupies a portion of land stretching towards the west from where Limay and Neuquén rivers meet to form Río Negro, all of which falls within the ecoregion known as Alto Valle del Río Negro.

Best stops along the San Martin de los Andes to Puerto Madryn drive
The top stops along the way from the San Martin de los Andes to Puerto Madryn (with short detours) are Paseo de la Costa, Balneario Piedras Coloradas, and Limay River. Other popular stops include Bubalcó, Playa Las Conchillas, and Museo Paleontológico Municipal Ernesto Bachmann(NEUQUEN).
I recommend to visit Junin for 2 main attractions, this being one of them. No need to stay one night but you may need a full day, especially if sunny. At least 4 hrs at park jesus and 2 hrs at punte banana.
From Neuquen or San Martin (250 pesos bus) is really worth it. The park was unique and very relaxing. The artist is very unique. The puente is lovely and beautiful pics to remember this small city.
This park is daring because it can really trigger those Christian fanatics. The sculpture artist is daring and very thought provoking. It is amazing how a small town can turn an ordinary pine tree forest into a masterpiece. Price is 400 pesos. You get an amazing pine tree landscape, mountains views, free range horses wandering around, a 3
hr hike and art. All in one place for a great price.

Not surprisingly, there was a strong Christian theme to the sculptures, which were very impressive in beautiful woodland surroundings

It is a visit that admits a wide spectrum of looks: admirable from the religious, anthropological point of view, from the infrastructure and architecture, from a walk in a natural environment. If it is desired to learn and to know the work from the religious, its greater symbolic potential, it is suggested to make the visit with guide.

The walls upholstered with blankets woven by Mapuches make it different, cozy and fill any visitor with peace regardless of their religious belief.

The museum was great! It's the most accessible museum I've ever been to. They had audio guides (via QR codes at each dinosaur) in both Spanish and English. They also had braille signs at each dinosaur (see pic for one of them). We were there at a quiet time, so we had the place to ourselves which was cool. The dinosaur bones are very cool (especially the massive one that spans almost the entire room), and the audio guides are informative.
The entrance fee is very reasonable, although the museum is pretty small. I would highly recommend this as an activity for kids who are going through their dinosaur phase.

Museo Paleontológico Municipal Ernesto Bachmann in Neuquen may be small, but it holds some remarkable exhibits. Visitors can marvel at dinosaur nests, replicas of local discoveries, and a fascinating ancient shark jaw that's a popular spot for photos. Despite its size, the museum never fails to impress its visitors with its dramatic displays. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and have an interest in paleontology.
Nice place to visit if you’re in the area.

This is an amazing Dinosaur Museum which is located about one (1) hour outside of Neuquen Capital City and many people have recommended it to me.
They have several rooms with exhibits and replicas on Dinosaurs and there is even a place just a few kilometers away by the Lago Ezequiel Ramos Mexia where you can even see Dinosaur Footprints.
Wow!
I personally want to Thank Joe and Shelley from the Iglesia Bautista Biblica Church in Neuquen Capital City for taking ME there back on Sunday, April 16, 2017.

Bodega Malma is a must-visit destination located far from the city, offering a fantastic view and an excellent restaurant. Visitors can enjoy a tour of the winemaking facility by the owner, which is described as perfect. The restaurant serves classic empanadas and paella, providing a spectacular dining experience. Complete animal abuse. It's really sad because so many small zoos like this still exist all over the world and are unregulated. In theory, some zoos could be beneficial if the animals were indeed rescued and/or there were conservation programs enacted but this is not one of those cases.
When I visited, it was in the middle of winter (30°F) and of course all the animals have tiny shelters where they can sleep at night but they are very small and dark. Naturally, the animals need sunlight and outdoor time so they're outside shivering and if they're lucky to be with others, huddling to keep warm.
The enclosures are small and have no stimulation or proper environmental foilage or anything. The birdcages were tiny and only had two branches for the birds to roost on. The monkeys looked extremely lonely, a chimpanzee and two other types by themselves when they are clearly social animals. Overall a very sad experience.

So incredibly loud on the weekends. Could not sleep. Everyone was partying until very late and one drunk guy wouldn’t turn his music off all night and I to the late morning. On the plus side very nice staff and the hot water was indeed hot. Admission is super cheap. And swimming in the nearby river is a lot of fun. If you’re roughing it then it might be a good option but don’t go on the weekend unless you’re ready to PARTY with the locals. By day however, fun place to hang.

The nature reserve El Cañadon de las Ostras is a charming location, although the road leading to it may not be very attractive. However, with a bit of daring and patience, it is accessible by an average car. It is advisable to visit during the day for safety reasons. The place itself is a beauty, completely untouched by human intervention. It is recommended to bring your own provisions as there are no facilities in the area.

You have to go at low tide. There is no stop! You have to take everything!

(Translated by Google) horrific. We walked from the caves along the beach suffering from an UNCLEAN smell due to the algae, which we mistakenly believed would disappear when we arrived at the spa. We were clearly wrong. The spa has a hostel where we bought water that they charged us as if it came from Mount Fiji (very expensive, like everything), but nice. The sea was full of those filthy algae, which took away the desire to go into the sea. Then we returned to the parador to go to the bathroom, but a very unpleasant lady told us, in a very bad way, that the bathrooms were not public and that without consumption we could not use them, and that there were bathrooms outside. We went out and checked that there were bathrooms, but at the modest price of 500 pesos per head, as if peeing were a privilege and not a necessity. The only good thing was some wild kittens that were around that let us pet them and purred at us and a baby crab that we saw in a little puddle (attached video of seconds before its death by the seagulls). In short, terrible experience,
I don't recommend it even to my worst enemy.

(Translated by Google) The attention of the guides was perfect, I think they were the best guides we had in a while and that I did excursions in different parts of the world.
Las Salinas were flooded, which is why the excursion cannot be enjoyed 100%, even so, the excursion is very good, you already pass through a museum, a machinery area, where they explain some things to you, and the last thing you are going to a literal mountain of salt, which gives a spectacular view for the toast.
Dsp the lamb casserole is very tasty, my wife ordered vegetarian because she doesn't like lamb and she liked it. I repeated the dish without problems.
Luckily it was clear and we were able to observe the star with a telescope.
Recommendable.

Recomendable.

(Translated by Google) As other comments say, the good and the improvable. It is true that it is a nice excursion, the staff are all very good and they make the moment enjoyable. The lamb is delicious...but...the salt pans are flooded, if they let you know, you decide (clearly they would lose sales because of that, they only comment on it without telling you that you will never see them) The price seemed excessive to me, but each one can decide that.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent place. A must if you go to Las Grutas or anywhere nearby. Its beaches are much better than Las Grutas. There is no algae, there is clean sand, and the temperature is excellent. It is also very quiet without so many people. The beach is next to the route and they do not have to go through any place that is difficult to access. Safety pin.

(Translated by Google) The beaches are beautiful, immensity and variety of shells. The two times we went we found them too populated and the impact with the few services there is felt (garbage, etc.). The water is almost warm and the children really enjoy it. You have to be organized with wind shields and something to protect yourself from the sun, which when reflected by the shell is quite intense. It's worth it!

At the entrance, in the summer season they charge you a one-time fee ($3,500 January 2024) to camp as many days as you want, load raw water, and discharge your gray and black water.
