The top cities between Pocos de Caldas and Salvador are Belo Horizonte, Campos Do Jordao, Ouro Preto, Morro de Sao Paulo, Itacare, Tiradentes, Monte Verde, Itatiaia, Sao Thome das Letras, and Capitolio. Belo Horizonte is the most popular city on the route. It's 6 hours from Pocos de Caldas and 16 hours from Salvador.
Monte Verde is a beloved destination for many, including myself, who has visited seven times in as many years. This charming place offers a variety of activities and attractions that cater to different interests. One of the main draws is its gastronomy, making it an increasingly popular choice for couples seeking a romantic getaway. However, the natural beauty, climate, and hospitality also contribute to its appeal. When planning a trip to Monte Verde, one common question that arises is where to dine.
Campos do Jordão, located in Brazil's Mantiqueira Mountains and part of São Paulo state, is known for its Swiss-style architecture. The city is home to Parque Estadual de Campos do Jordão, a vast park covering a third of the municipality with pine forests and mountains that provide habitats for various bird species and endangered animals like pumas and ocelots. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the milder weather during the off-season when the city is less crowded.

The guide who took us was super understandable. Walked slowly
He took beautiful photos for us.
*Important detail*: wear sneakers, very comfortable clothes, a bottle to put water in the spring, no bags, hats or caps. Use lots of sunscreen, on your ears and neck. It's very windy on the rocks. The sun is intense. Enjoy the view. It's worth all the sacrifice to climb.

It's not difficult, but elderly people or people with leg problems should avoid it, as it takes about 40 minutes going up and 40 minutes going back down. Up there, try taking a photo with mirroring in the water, it looks really cool.

We did it at 2:00 pm and it was super peaceful, as well as being cool because of the forest. As it was a bit cloudy, when we arrived at the top of the rock, it was a mild temperature and without strong sun.

Such a beautiful place with kind-hearted staff! I’m not a local and didn’t know that they only accept cash and Pix, and since my card was international they couldn’t accept it. The girl selling tickets let me in for free and covered my parking as well. Such a simple yet kind act, it was genuinely the highlight of my day! The plants and gardens were beautiful, and I felt very peaceful afterwards. I would recommend this place to everyone!

This park was absolutely beautiful and worth the 40 Reis entrance fee. The gardens were all well-maintained. The views of the surrounding valleys were spectacular. It's an easy stroll through the park, and there's even a maze to navigate through. There are various plants to see and coy fish in the ponds. And there's a tree house you can visit. You only need 1-2 hours total to see everything. The employees were nice, but it may be difficult to find someone that speaks English.

A tourist attraction in Sao Jose dos Campos called Ducha de Prata is a beautiful waterfall and shower that can be accessed by wooden decks. There are nearby stalls selling souvenirs. The water was pretty and interesting, but there were no actual trails to hike to get away from the crowds. It was pretty busy when we were there, so it may not be the best choice if you want to visit on your own.
It’s a very beautiful place and there are shops you can shop souvenirs from. The only issue is the issue of getting a ticket to enter the main areas there but you can still view for free from the first stairs and also take pictures. We didn’t stay for long because we went there by the sight seeing train from the capivari.

Beautiful scenery. Definitely worth a look if you are in the area. If you see the waterfalls, keep going down the path until the end. There are some hidden waterfalls underneath where most people stop. The shops and tourist attractions are fun. Very down to earth location. Most of the shops close early so plan accordingly. Come by car because the roads are narrow and the cars speed.

Morro do Elefante is a mountain top spot with amazing city and mountain views. It can be accessed by car or cable car, but the latter option is payable. The view from up there is definitely worth it!
Overlooking Campos do jordoan, beautiful European style town right in brazil. You can take a "ski lift" type ride up or down to the overlook. Couple of little shops and food vendors so you can spend a little extra time enjoying the view. The photos are what so much of the home, hotels, shops and restaurants are like.

Beautiful view in a place that could get potential to be better.
We climbed to the elephant's hill using the scared cable car, I believe its was created with the city and never modernized.
My husband, who is Canadian, liked the experience more than I did. He was scared but he found excited at the same time. I think that because I have already been to Campos do Jordão several times, I think at this point the city, which seems to be very rich looking at the hotels in the area and people who frequent it, should have already renovated that a long time ago and have made something much better and more attractive, as the other countries that have mountains for Ski. I think don’t need to be exactly the same, but Mount Tremblant in Quebec also has a small area up hill and its not so fancy, but little more attractive and safe.
Anyway, the view is very beautiful and we can see the whole city, mountains and part of the other surrounding regions. When we get up there again, the attractions could be much more elaborate and modernized giving opportunity to locals to get better jobs, show a nicer view and give to the city, locals and visitors a better structure. I think the place with elephants is a good idea, especially for children, but they could modernize it and charge a little for the entrance to maintain the place. They also could make a kind of a little mall where people could expose their crafts making their products more attractive and a nice cafe or restaurant with a lookout ... Anyway, use a little of the American style of exposing your business, which could be better for everybody. If I had money to invest, that unfortunately is not the case at the moment, I would probably organize people and get that changed for the benefit of all city and visitors.
Grade: Eli = 3, Serge = 3
Recommend: It’s worth for the Mountain View.

Fabulous park, so much to see and do, some easy walks, pedalling swan-shaped boats, stunning nature, playgrounds and cafes and a fabulous restaurant (Dona Chica) which is award-winning and yet cheaper than the Capivari places. Signage is exclusively in Portuguese (which is a shame) but it's easy to find your way around. A nice park to walk around. There are several short hikes. We really enjoyed Trilha dos campos (3km), which takes you up to good views and also winds along the river for a stretch. The trail to the waterfall was much more crowded and more of a road than a trail. Overall, the park itself was very crowded excepting Trilha dos Campos. Itatiaia National Park is the oldest national park in Brazil, boasting a diverse array of landscapes ranging from dense rainforests to rugged peaks. The lower section of the park is easily accessible and offers visitors numerous short trails that lead to breathtaking waterfalls and natural swimming holes. Meanwhile, serious hikers and climbers can explore the remote high country via an unpaved road. The park is also home to abundant flora and fauna, such as orchids, monkeys, and tropical birds.
Wonderful national park at Itataia. It's possible to visit the park on foot, bike or by car. Visitors entering the park by car must pay an extra fee (around R$ 24,00) to take it's paved and non paved roads on a motored vehicle. The activities available at the park for visitors range from a beautiful cultural centre with many historical highlights, track trails in a rich forest terrain, magnificent waterfalls to admire and freshen up, numerous bird watching spots, and exuberant viewpoints of the Mantiqueira Mountain and it's wildlife. The difficulty of tracks may vary a lot. Upon entry on the park, visitors are given a detailed map, which shows what's possible to do whilst visiting the site. The park is basically divided into a lower and an upper part. The most demanding tracks, which are also those that one needs to plan in advance, are located in the upper part of park. In those areas, it's possible to camp on designated areas or stay for the night at one of the park's lodging houses (reservation in advance needed). In the park's website, there are lots of information for visitors, and high definition pdf maps for downloading, as well as a list of well trained guides on the park whenever the need arises. It's not possible to park in any spot by the road, the permitted parking areas will be sign posted. All around the park, it's possible to see restaurants, hotels and other private properties, which means there's no time available to do everything you'll find at the park. It's a highly recommended visit, and a place not to forget.

It's a decent park, but beware that the upper portion of the park is almost impossible to get up with a regular car. You DEFINITELY need a high-clearance vehicle like an SUV or 4x4 to do it, or a motorcycle.

Maravilhoso parque estadual.
beautiful, enchanting national park well worth visiting and well preserved and clean. the perfect photo at the " sky window" desperately needs better organization and restrictions with supervision and I feel that there are other places in the park that are even more beautiful. It is controversial to impose restrictions but public safety, cleanliness and preservation are essential.

The Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos in Congonhas do Campo, Brazil is a Rococo-style church built in the 18th century. It is famous for its soapstone carvings and wood sculptures by renowned sculptor Aleijadinho. The sanctuary consists of a church with an exquisite Italian-inspired Rococo interior, an outdoor stairway adorned with statues of prophets, and seven chapels depicting the Stations of the Cross.
Here is the world heritage was registered in 1985.
If you transfer between Belo Horizonte and Ouro Preto, you can stop here easily.
There are beautiful sculptures made by Aleijadinho.
Inside church is also beautiful space.
There is a vivid altar.
We went there on Friday afternoon, there were few people.
It was calm and silent place to feel Baroque art.

This sanctuary in Minais Gerais, south of Belo Horizonte was built in the second half of the 18th century. It consists of a church with a magnificent Rococo interior of Italian inspiration; an outdoor stairway decorated with statues of the prophets; and seven chapels illustrating the Stations of the Cross, in which the polychrome sculptures by Aleijadinho are masterpieces of a highly original, moving, expressive form of Baroque art.

The Museu da Inconfidência is a well-preserved former jail in Ouro Preto that serves as a museum dedicated to the casualties of a failed rebellion against Portugal in 1789. The building showcases excellent examples of civil colonial architecture, with pale stone walls and arched windows set against a painted white facade. This historical museum pays tribute to those who lost their lives during the unsuccessful revolution that fought for independence from Portugal.
Highly recommend. Compelling story-telling about early colonial and revolution history. Signs have English translations which are a bit archaic, and hard to understand, but give a basic story.

A shame that photos are not allowed, but it is a great place! I enjoyed the museum and the glimpse it gives into the history of Ouro Preto and Brazil.
The staff was super friendly and worked hard to accommodate the disability on one of the people in our party.
Anin Badra — Google review
Audio guides weren't available, which probably made it a lot less enjoyable. Translations are in Portuguese and English, but the English doesn't provide much context and it's difficult to follow the history of the conspiracy or the story of the Vila Rica. Staff were very helpful, however, and lots of security. No photos allowed!

Very fine museum with the great history of Ouro Preto. Nice to take a tour if you have some extra time in the city

This place holds some of the most important documents of the Brazilian history.
It always keeps the bodies of the first men to think about an independent Brasil: there's a small Pantheon inside the museum.
It's important to understand that the episode remembered by this museum happened pretty much in line with the US independence and the french revolution and the industrial revolution. Minas Gerais was already economically and politically linked to the world by 1750+.

I recommend staying in a guesthouse that has parking close to the center and taking walks, there are many streets with lots of slopes and as it is a historic city, it maintains the original asphalting which is a bit damaging to the car and the ups and downs are difficult. very steep.

The conservation of places is impressive and makes us value our culture even more. Furthermore, the local guides know everything about the city and tell you every detail with a pride that is contagious.
The crafts workshops and shops are charming in their own right, with unique pieces and lots of local art. It's the food? Wow, the restaurants have typical Minas Gerais dishes that are delicious. Well located with a wide range of museums to be visited.

Just some blocks ahead, you will find a good variety of restaurants.

A beautiful building that's still in use. What is open to visitors is nice, but not a lot to see. If you're short on time, is give this a miss... If you have time, it's cute and quick.

Beautiful square in the center of Belo Horizonte inspired on the gardens of the Versailles palace, it is one of the most relevant ones. It has the so called cultural circuit around it, including different museums, knowledge institutions and at least one theater. The CCBB (cultural center of Banco do Brasil) stays nearby and is a must do visit. Also notice the wavy building, it is Oscar Niemeyer’s project. And such a beautiful one.

Wonder place to visit in Belo Horizonte and in any city (main cities in Brazil have the Cultural Center of Banco do Brazil). Entry is free. Here there is an interior terrace shared by two cafes/ restaurants, with very nice ambiance; the prices are a bit too high, so it is not for the backpacker, but it is nice to have a different experience.
The exhibits are usually well curated. Currently there are two, one of Antonio Poteiro, Brazilian popular artist and one of Man Ray, the famous photographer. Both very interesting and, again, with free entrance.
Coming here gives you the opportunity to enjoy the Freedom square (Praça da Liberdade) where it is settled. Don’t miss the wavy building of Oscar Niemeyer, renown Brazilian modernist architect.

Very cool park with lots of recreative options! Mountain biking, mountain climbing, hiking, sightseeing, just to namea few. Well, I went there as a volunteer wildfire fighter, to help keep the views and trails, fauna and flora for people to see & consciously enjoy!

Very good! There you can track or bike with your friends, the tracking is not hard, so even children can go! The waterfalls are amazing!

I'll never travel to Salvador without this trip planner again
The Buracao Waterfall in Brazil is a breathtaking natural wonder located in a winding canyon. It can be accessed through a guided hike or swim, and is widely regarded as one of the country's most impressive waterfalls. Although not easily accessible, visitors are rewarded with stunning views of the 85-meter tall waterfall and its surrounding environment. The water temperature is pleasant and safety vests are provided for added security.
Buracão is definitely one of the most beautiful waterfalls you'll see. And it is by far the most must-go spot in Chapada Diamantina. It is compulsory to hire a local guide to enter the park. Usually, it costs 150 for up to 6 persons (we were two, so we paid 75 reais each). The entrance fee is 15 reais per person. The access isn't as easy as many other spots around but it's really worth it. We drove past Ibicoara, about 24km on an dirt road, then another 4km past the ticket booth, and then we walked for 1 hour in an easy-level track, which is suitable for both elder and children alike. You can reach the bottom part of the waterfal either by rappel (commonly 1 ½ hours wait plus 20 minutes rappelling) or walking (20 minutes). If you choose to walk down the track, you drop your stuff on a rock and swim a small shallow canal to see the waterfall from below. Water is refreshing cold. There's no one selling beverages or whatsoever at the waterfall so it's a good idea to grab yourself something to eat. There's someone selling snacks (many vegan and vegetarian options available) and beverages at the entrance of the track (past the ticket booth, right before you start the walk).

Extremely nice, bade below a 85 meters tall water fall, with ok water temperature and with safety vests included. Not too crowded.

Words cannot describe this place. So beautiful and inspiring. Best waterfall. You have to experience it to believe!

Hike along a river, through the mata, down beside one waterfall to arrive at a canyon that you need to swim through to reach a spectacular waterfall... An amazing day.
Just be careful following Google maps - we were led well astray. You have to go through Ibicoara, and it's worth getting a guide from there - there's a tricky lookout you probably won't find on your own to see Buracão from above.
Kate — Google review
Amazing waterfall in a great setting! Definitely worth it! But avoid to do the tour with the agency Bicho do Mato - even though the price for a group of four is fixed in Ibicoara they charged us more after we returned from the tour.

Must seen in Chapada! Best waterfall, beautiful view and the tracking is nice.
Located 15 km away from the central region, Itacarezinho Beach is the farthest of the Four Beaches Trail and renowned as one of the best beaches in Itacare. Its typical northeastern beach view features a shoreline surrounded by palm trees, long stretches of sand and an irresistible sea for swimming. Visitors can enjoy a more secluded atmosphere or engage in activities such as surfing, diving and hiking.
This spot is as close to heaven as you can get here on earth. Be sure to stop at the Mirante on the way down for a beautiful photo. If you have the money, you can rent a gorgeous cabana, but be prepared to open up your wallet. It’s about $300R per person. $250R comes back in food and drinks. The second option is $300R total for chairs, an umbrella, pizza and a few beers. My best recommendation is solid footwear for the walk (10 mins downhill and 15 mins uphill), carry your Havianas, and bring water, snacks, and towels. You can also hike to another nearby beach on a trail should you choose. Last great perk, you can rinse off in a fresh water waterfall coming from the nearby river. Totally worth the trek.

A great tourist attraction not more than an hour from the city of Ilhéus, offering great, though not cheap, food and drinks. The beach itself is splendid. Not a piece of rubbish to be seen.

One of the best beaches in Itacaré. You can either leave your car at the entrance and walk down to the beach or park inside the property at a cost. Itacarezinho isn't usually crowded. In case you don't have a beach chair or a parasol, you can rent them from the only kiosk you'll find on the premises. There is also a minimum spending requirement restaurant.
Helsingberg Arcanjo — Google review
This was our favorite beach in the area. Not to crowded, easy access, you can swim, enjoy not to strong waves, get some snorkeling, walk along...
Concha Beach is a popular seaside destination in Itacare, offering bustling sandy shores and picturesque vistas for surfers and paddleboarders. The beach features numerous rustic eateries and kiosks along the waterfront, making it an ideal place for families to enjoy the calm waters of the sea. Located at the mouth of Rio de Contas, Concha Beach boasts perfect water conditions for swimming. Additionally, visitors can enjoy colorful small beaches nearby as well as lovely accommodation options and charming dining spots.
A Nice colorful, beautiful small beaches and a super place to swim ! Small hotell and Nice places to eat!❤️

Popular beach in the area to watch the sunset, lots of people having a drink and enjoying it.
Water was fairly warm, waves very small, slight pebbly section at the water's edge but after that 5 metre stretch, all sandy.

Cool just to see the beach on the other side, the town and maybe a sunset. But as a beach, it's much better to go to resende, tiririca and ribeira. The sand here has a dirty-looking aspect and the beach feels crowded really fast. Not much space.
V. Lucas — Google review
It's the perfect beach for you if you want to swim. There is a lot of bars for you to sit and ask food or a drink but there is also space on the sand if you want to have a nice and tight tan.

Barra Grande Beach is a scenic shoreline renowned for its pristine, tranquil waters and convenient access to nearby dining establishments and bars. This picturesque strip of sand boasts an appealing structure and offers breathtaking sunsets. While the beach may not be expansive in size, it provides a comfortable setting with calm bay-like waters. For those seeking a serene and beautiful location with inviting water, Barra Grande Beach is an excellent choice.

Lovely beach with a Tulum-like feel without all the foreign tourists (like myself) .
Many beautiful posadas and beach clubs.
I had a great time here and would love to return.
8/10 would recommend.
Lloyd Bennett — Google review
It has a nice structure and a beautiful sunset. It’s a kind of bay, so water is calm. The sand zone is not big, but is comfortable. I prefer an open sea, but those seeking for a calm and beautiful place with water, go there.

What a wonderful place! There are options for all kinds of tourists, but the calmest ones prevail. Clearest water I've ever seen. Avoid the crowds and rent the Volta a Ilha boat ride. The guys will ride away from the drunk crowds and get you to the calmest pools, quite far from the floating pub.

The Quarta Praia beach in Morro de Sao Paulo is a more secluded, quieter option than the main beaches in town, and is worth walking to after a dip in the water. It's also more vazia than the other beaches in Morro, with many people renting bikes to pedal along the long stretch of sand.
Really liked it. Away from the crowds of the other beaches that are closer to the town centre you'll find a nice beach with very little amount of people (takes a while to get there as you can only get there by foot I think). Because of that, unfortunately this isn't an option for people with reduced mobility. There are a couple of bars that (I think) serve some food (although we didn't eat). Not a place to watch the sunset, best during the morning/day time (till 16:30-17:00)
Isa Alonso — Google review
The beach is beautiful, but for those who want bath or swim, it’s better to keep walking till the second half of the beach
Bruno Lins — Google review
Much quieter than in town. Worth walking here and sitting in the shade of the big trees after a splash.
Paolo Denti — Google review
It’s a very flat and shallow beach, even with the tide. The mud is very soft and is good for rubbing on your skin or throwing at your friends (or enemies, you choose). It’s the least crowded beach, especially farther south.
Angus Bennion — Google review
This is the most peaceful and beautiful beach of Morro. When the tide is low you can swim in natural pools with many colorful fishes. The coast is designed with palm trees and other trees.

The 2a Praia in Morro de Sao Paulo is a popular beach with people looking for lots of fun during the holidays. It's home to some of the most popular beach bars and restaurants in town, as well as some of the most beautiful views of the ocean. It's just a short walk from the center of town and it's always crowded during high season, thanks to tourists who love its laid-back atmosphere and cool water.
Beautiful beach, you can lie down and never have to get up, someone will get you all the acai and caipi you'll need. Lots of football, dancers and people having fun!

(Translated by Google) From an infrastructure point of view, it is an extremely useful and important essential service for the transport and integration of the Capital and the highways that arrive from the South, Southeast and Center-West of Brazil. Ferry Boats deserve better attention from public authorities, as well as the services provided. Boats that were once extremely modern, today need minimal repairs and care. It is worth mentioning that other states in Brazil do not have boats with this quality and construction, so maintenance would be enough to improve service conditions. Pedestrians and all types of vehicles board practically without restrictions.
