The Kintai Bridge is a stunning wooden structure that spans 200 meters and consists of five arches adorned with intricate timberwork. Originally built in 1673, the bridge has been reconstructed since then. Visitors can explore the area for around 970 yen, which includes access to the castle, crossing the bridge, and taking a ropeway ride. The best time to visit is during cherry blossom season when breathtaking views can be enjoyed; however, it can also get crowded during this peak period.
So beautiful place . One of the best cherry blossom spots in Yamaguchi prefecture. The bridge is made of wood. Around 970 yen you get to go castle , crossing of bridge and ropeway. Cherry blossom season is recommended. The view was breathtaking but crowded. During spring and autumn, you have boat rides. There was also bridge and cherry blossom light up. There were also shops too , selling soft cream, fried potato, oysters etc . I think this is only for spring season. I recommend to go to this place in spring.

This is one of the most beautiful and impressive places to visit. One time will not be enough. You have to come during the day and night time, as well as throughout the year. You need to see the different seasons and to see how the bridge can be viewed from a different perspective. Even my teenage kids love this place and it is only a bridge. A must visit while in Iwakuni.

Stunning place. Worth the visit. The bridge construction is amazing. Worth the walk to the other side to get an ice cream. 100 or more flavours.
Maree White — Google review
An absolutely beautiful bridge in a quaint and quiet location. There is a cable car nearby that can take you to the castle. Otherwise, you can enjoy your time walking around on River rocks, meandering in the river, walking across the famous bridge, or exploring the nearby town. There is a beautiful park just across the bridge with plenty of shrines and Tori Gates. I would absolutely recommend this to a friend

Had a wonderful time watching the Teppo-tai Troop today. It was a first for me and my family and we are so grateful to have witnessed this wonderful experience. The bridge in the background was such a beauty. Be sure to check it out next new years day.

Very nice bridge and good castle. Less than 1000 yen to buy a set ticket to cross the bridge and take the cable car up the mountain to see the Iwakuni castle. Good place to spend half a day.
Bennett Fung — Google review
Although the tourist spot appears to be distant, it is definitely worth the effort to visit. The bridge is stunning, and the atmosphere is pleasant. I stayed until the bridge was illuminated, and it was a breathtaking sight. There are numerous activities to participate in, and people were thoroughly enjoying themselves. Additionally, there were several food booths to satisfy one's appetite.
Nene — Google review
Super cool to come here at night, especially when there has been a lot of rain lately and the water is so high. It's always beautifulily illuminated and exciting to watch the river rushing between the pylons. So moody. Add a little bit of fog and you've got a wonderful place to take a stroll under the moonlight.
Cameron Shown — Google review
Beautiful bridge we were fortunate enough to here during the cherry blossoms. The park has so much to offer. There is so much to do. It cam be an 15m trip or all day. It is also in the immediate vicinity of iwakuni castle. You can take a ski lift, walk a paved road or take the adventurous route up the mountain path.
nils aylor — Google review
Definitely worth the visit especially when the weather isn’t hot. For those who are into architecture, the design of the bridge and how it was build and is currently standing will be provide a great exposure and definitely a worth visiting experience. The bridge combined with the museums and the castle is a great one day away trip from Hiroshima or any other nearby city. The nature, mountains and pure air was amazing. Totally recommended and the full entrance fee for all activities (bridge, cable rope, museums and the castle) is around ~¥1500 per adult.

A wonderful reconstruction of an historic wooden bridge. The castle keep is atop the mountain overlooking the river and offers a panoramic view on the bridge. Traditional cormorant fishing is happening in the evening. A very beautiful place to spend a day and the evening.

Beautiful place. Very nice to walk around. The kintai Bridge has parking on the side that is free after hours but with a charge during events and business hours. It's very scenic and great for enjoying nature. Take walking shoes as there is a lot to see on foot. Not a ton of restaurants around so packing snacks is great idea.

Visited in late March and it was such a beautiful place to visit! Not too difficult to get to but please do take note of the bus timings and plan accordingly. Try to visit earlier so there are less people on the bridge so you can get your perfect shots!

Simply iconic. One of the best examples of interlocking wooden architecture. Always nice to view from a torch-lit dinner aboard a traditional cormorant fishing boat. Convenient bus station hub located a 1/2 block to the northeast of the bridge.

Grand bridge, with a small peaceful town owned by a family, lots of great scenic spots, there is a bamboo park, a temple with a pond filled with the largest Koi i have ever seen. Then there is the tram that takes you to the Castle up the mountain. This city was one of my favorites in Japan. I could retire here.

Learn about the bridge 🌉 architecture, plus other attractions at the compound here.
There is a commorant training facility and exhibit to learn more about how these birds were trained in the past to hunt for fish 🐟
The white 🤍 snake 🐍 museum here contains writeups about the history and science of white snakes in this area, and also has exhibits of these reptiles. There is also a quiz terminal which prints out a certificate for you for attempting 5 questions about white snakes.
A cable car ropeway 🚠 leads you to the top of the hill in 5 min to explore the ancient castle 🏯
Don't forget the souvenir stalls too on both ends of the bridge selling specialty items like hot tile soba and Iwakunin sushi.
Expected to stay for 30 minutes, ended up staying for more than 2 hours. Great fun, and much learned.
Kikko Park is a lush green area with attractive landscaping, featuring fountains and splash pads, a fish pond, and an enclosure for cormorants. I've been to Kintai Bridge twice before on my walk from Hakata, and this is my third time. This time I wanted to see things other than the bridge, so I went to see Iwakuni Castle, Kikko Park, Shirohebi no Tate, and Shirohebi Shrine. , etc. I came there early in the morning, so I was able to take my time to see it. I love coming here. Every season is different and beautiful. My toddler loves visiting the cormorants and playing in the splash pad. There are several restaurants and ice cream spots in and around the area as well as souvenir shops by the bridge. There are also a couple of museums in the park. I love that such an amazing space is in our city.

Beautiful park with lovely Sakura in the spring and beautiful autumn foilage.
James Anderson — Google review
I would agree with the review that said it's a great date location! There are plenty of fountains, pretty trees, ice cream and food vendors, and historical sites all packed into this one area. There is a big pool-like fountain in the middle where kids (and adults) are allowed to swim so if you're coming on a hot day, prepare a swimsuit or shorts so you can take a dip. Some kids even brought floaties.
On the Kintai bridge side, there's a walkway with 3-4 soft served ice cream shops and a few restaurants that serve the local specialty: Yamaguchi sushi. It's a thick square of rice with lots of toppings, it kind of reminds me of lasagna in a way. There's also a restaurant that sells lotus root noodles (Yamaguchi is famous for its lotus root/renkon). If you don't speak/read Japanese, some vendors have English menus that you can point to if worst comes to worst, but they're very helpful and understanding!
I would recommend spending 2-3 hours in the area just to hit up all the sites, and while there's plenty of drink vending machines around, it's probably best if you bring your own water. It can be expensive!

Iwakuni Castle is a magnificent 4-story fortress renowned for its scenic mountain vistas and impressive samurai sword exhibitions. This attraction offers an incredible weekend adventure for families, featuring the historic Kintai bridge extending over Nishiki river and a cable car ride to the top of the castle. For more active visitors, there is also a paved hiking trail leading to the castle peak that boasts stunning natural scenery.
Always a great place to visit in Iwakuni! From the old Kintai bridge spanning the Nishiki river to the cable car taking you to the top, this is a great weekend adventure for the family. If you are feeling slightly more energetic you can hike the path that takes you to the top. It's only a few kilometers long and it is paved so it isn't too difficult but the nature is beautiful! Entry into the castle is incredibly cheap and the plethora of 1600s swords and armor is a great look back at Japan's history!
Anchor _ — Google review
The castle itself isn’t big but definitely located in extraordinary location which is surrounded by nature. Inside the castle you can find all the information and history behind its destruction and reconstruction along with quite a great collection of swords, spears and other weapons as well as samurai armors mostly from the 17th - 18th century. The last floor is an observation deck which provides an astonishing view of the city/nature.
A. K. — Google review
A very beautiful castle, yes it has been reconstructed but it's still a beautiful castle. Inside the castle it has museum of a ton of samurai swords, weapon's and a lay out of how a samurai is made. There are 4 level in the castle with each level providing a display of the samurai weapons, at the top of floor there is an observation deck, which allows you to over see part of Iwakuni City. Well worth the visit in my opinion, plus it's a hike to the castle.
Johnny Mac — Google review
The castle and cable car were probably my two favorite parts of Iwakuni. The view at the top is just spectacular and well worth the price!
There’s a great sword exhibit inside the castle and the castle even has its own Goshuin.
Cassandra Wheeles Talbot — Google review
This a historic site, a museum, where you will see a little bit of Japan history. It's not the original castle. It was destroyed during a war and later reconstructed . It's amazing to see the types of swords and armors used at that time. Exhibition is small, but the experience is amazing. You reach the castle through a cable car to the top of the mountain but have the choice of walking down the mountain .
Rodrigo Martinez — Google review
Nice local Castle rebuilt, the hike up to the castle is fantastic. There is also a rope way to take you up for about 350¥ pp. Small museum inside and you can also go to the top level for a beautiful view of Iwakuni.
Taylor Elliott — Google review
I feel sorry for the people that built the original castle. Its position is so high up. It has an incredible view of the surrounding area and the cable car up is very scenic. You can make your way up on foot but it would take a while. From the cable car there is an easy option and a more challenging option to access the castle. So many sword blades kept inside and don't forget to collect a stamp. Vending machines are available outside the castle and there is a nice rest area too.
Aler Locus — Google review
A replicated castle for tourism purpose. You may just want to drop by if you're visiting the neighborhood. Great view from the top window floor.
Jason Hung — Google review
Fun hike up to the top of the hill where the castle sits. The castle itself is nice, interesting architecture, quite a few historical artifacts. Lots of swords and other local history related material to see. There is also a very interesting model of the kintai kyo and a model of the framing of the castle.
Charles Vandenberg — Google review
The castle has a very interesting history and a beautiful vantage point over Iwakuni city. There's an entrance fee to go in, but if you bought the package ticket, you can go in easily.
Each floor has an exhibit, but mainly it's swords, short swords, and sacrificial swords. Each item has a placard with English and on the walls tells the story of Iwakuni Castle and the feudal lords in the area. For history buffs who like the Sengoku era, you'll see a lot of names you recognize.
The view at the top is spectacular, nothing beats it. You get an almost 360 degree view of the area. I went in the summer, but if you go in the fall when the trees are red, it must be breathtaking.
Overall, for a small city in its location, the castle tour experience is worth it.

After leaving Yanai Port, you will pass directly under Oshima Ohashi Bridge in about 15 minutes.
A beautiful bridge spans the narrow strait where Suo Oshima approaches Honshu. It's a picture.
It was a sunny, hot day in July 2023, just before the end of the rainy season, so the view from the ferry deck was refreshing.

It was originally opened as a toll road, but now it can be used for free. There is also a sidewalk, allowing pedestrians and bicycles to pass.
On the mainland side, it straddles the Sanyo Main Line, which runs along the coast, and the national highway, so I thought it would be a good place to take pictures of the railway if you were walking. (Although there is a difference in elevation, it is within walking distance from Ohata Station. There was also a parking space on the mainland side.)

Little Church that sits in Tsuwano. 20 minutes walk from the Chapel and the morning mass is at the Convent a few streets down.

If you"re a Catholic like me and you happened to pass by Tsuwano or visited Tsuwano,Japan , there is a solemn Catholic ⛪ church there. Please visit the church and feel the peace and holiness while praying for your devotion. Outside is a playground for kids and a mini museum where you can see photograps and some religious articles about catholicism history in Japan. You can also buy religious items like rosary, pamplets saints figurine, bracelets in a very cheap price . Outside the church you will surely love to watch Koi 's (japanese colorful fish) swimming in a very clean water canal . They are really wonderful , colorful and big different kind of fishes.

The interior design is also reminiscent of Christianity. The only thing that was interesting was that the tatami was different and I thought it was strange. From here, the babbling. Taikodani Inari-jinja Shrine is a magnificent Shinto shrine located in Tsuwano, also known as Little Kyoto. The shrine features a path adorned with numerous red torii gates that leads visitors to its iconic location. While there may be free parking available, it's important to note that the shrine doesn't cater primarily to foreign tourists and serves more as a religious site than a tourist attraction.
Such a beautiful place on top of the mountain, well maintained and has an astonishing panoramic view 💛loved it a lot, atmosphere was amazing there!

Parking was free. No English here. This place is not really meant for foreign tourists. It's a shrine more than tourist attraction. I was here for the nearby castle and this is where the parking was. I of course went to check out the shrine. It was beautiful. The view was beautiful. But I felt rather out of place as I realized this very much more a shrine shrine rather than a tourist shrine. I quickly left to go find the castle.
Robert Dykes — Google review
The shrine is the highlight of Tsuwano town especially if you know where to find the rear entrance.
Taikodani Inari-jinja shrine has a big impact on the town of Tsuwano. One of the roads down into the town has an impressive big red gate as if the hole town is part of the shrine precinct. You can see the shrine from most place in the town overlooking the valley. It was built to protect the castle that no longer stands. The shrine has resulted in the popularity of deep fried tofu skin noodles and the same stuffed with rice, which are likewise named after the fox, inari, that is said to like to eat them.
There is a car park directly in front of the shrine allowing visitors to go to pray or purchase omamori talismen after having only climbed a short stair case, but above all, I recommend the rear entrance so that you can go through the "1000" scarlet gates, climbing 263 steps. I think that the red gates symbolise something very important. By going through 1000 of them one may perhaps attain a little more purity at the shrine at the top.
The rear entrance, with all the red gates, an be accessed along the river bank near to Yasaka Jinja Shrine which is also marked on Google Maps. Unfortunately there is no car park so the designated driver will have to use the main entrance, or walk, or take a taxi from the station to Yasaka Jinja.
Taikodani Inari-jinja shrine itself is very well pretty, if a little gaudy, and the views down onto the town are very pleasant. The shrine sells Hello Kitty, and fox depicting omamori amulets as well as more traditional omamori (good luck charm) variations.
The fox is the messenger of the Esoteric Buddhism related god herein enshrined but offerings are often made to the fox. One can purchase the deep friend tofu skin to make as an offering at the shrine for that reason.
The fox is associated with esoteric Buddhism and with sex. The fox is sometimes depicted as having a phallic tail.
The shrine, and the town of Tsuwano, is 1 hour by car or steam locomotive (March to November) and two and a half hours by road bicycle along route nine from Yamaguchi, through the scenic valley of Choumonkyo and the apple production region of Tokusa.
There is, incidentally another famous, and attractive multi-red gated shrine, Moto no Sumi Inari shrine on the coast in the adjacent Yamaguchi prefecture, near the corner of Honshu, and hence perhaps the name of the shrine which means "the base of the corner fox shrine" which is I think a very appropriate name and location for one of these red-gated fox shrines.

Beautiful Shinto shirne which is one of the five most important inari shrines in Japan. It takes 10 minutes walking through several red Torii gates (red wood gates) from the bottom of the mountain to a shirne. You can park your car beside a shirne without walking.

One of the best hanami place. However, the animals were rather ordinary. We were expecting more hands-on experience and a bit disappointed not getting to see the polar bear. The hippo's house was so small and hope that the renovation will make great ease to the lonely hippo.

Small zoo with a few very old animal habitats. It looks like they are in the process of modernizing. The plus side is you get very close to the animals. The downside is the tiny habitats are pretty sad. The price is right though: ¥600 for adults and ¥300 for kids.

It's a nice zoo for kids I would say. The small size of the zoo makes it hard for me as an adult to look at the animals because some of them look like they're going to go mad all cramped up. Fortunately, it appears the zoo is expanding a bit and renovating.
There's a place to eat, a place for some interactive fun with animals and a photo machine that's zoo themed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Zoo is walkable from the station but there's also a cheap bus service.

Hofu Tenmangu Shrine, the first Shinto shrine in Japan, is renowned for its seasonal plum blossoms and traditional festivals. Visitors often come to pray for academic success and good luck in exams. The shrine boasts a beautiful park at the back and during cherry blossom season, it offers stunning views of the blossoms. A popular attraction is the Shunpuro hall which translates to "hall of spring breeze." This hall is believed to offer feelings of spring breeze throughout the year.
A very old and famous shrine at Hofu. We visited at dusk. Recommend to visit before sunset.

The main reason why we came to Hofu. It is a beautiful shrine overlooking Hofu City. There are parking lots near and above the entrance, so you can easily find a parking spot. The Front entrance of the Shrine is filled with shops and restaurants. The top also has vendors with finger foods.
The view from the front of the torii gate at the foot of the mountain was amazing. I imagine that nighttime would be a beautiful site with lanterns lit up. There were few people and it was quiet and a beautiful shrine.
The scenery from the top of the stairway and the 800-year-old Shinboku is a masterpiece and powerful. Our kids loved it too.

The Ruriko-ji Five Story Pagoda is a serene and picturesque Buddhist temple located in a landscaped park. This popular spot offers breathtaking views of cherry blossoms and fall foliage. Visitors can explore the pagoda and temple, both of which are free to enter. There is also a peaceful koi fish and turtle pond on the premises. However, visitors must take care to be respectful as there is also a cemetery onsite.
No matter how many times I visit, this pagoda takes my breath away!
It’s so pretty throughout the year. There are plum blossom trees, cherry blossom trees, and hydrangea on the grounds for people to enjoy. It’s also nice place to enjoy fall foliage.
There are usually some volunteer guides on the grounds also. They are so nice and helpful.
Lots of parking available, but they do get very busy during certain times of the year if you go on the weekend.
If you’re hungry while you are here, there is a cafe that serves the roof tile noodles nearby. It’s next to the large gift shop that is located next to the parking lot.
The grounds are wheelchair and stroller friendly.
There is no fee to enter and view the pagoda.

Go up around the Back! This is a beautiful pagoda that creates in its viewers a little bit of a Zen (or if you prefer, God's glory) experience. Why is this? Why do visitors say that it takes their breath away. My interpretation is that it looks like a lot of houses or temples stacked one on top of another. We are used to seeing the temple roof shape of each story of the pagoda. In the grounds of the temple there are similar roofs, of other similar temple structures but these are arranged horizontally with at most a slight vertical misalignment due to the temple structures and their roofs being built on a slope, which with the admixture of perspective, allows us to see when we view a temple complex or townscape a cascade of roofs stretching off into the distance. And so it is when we view this pagoda our brains attempt to interpret its form in the same familiar way, as smaller and smaller, more distant roofs, on the side of the mountain, but then, whammy, it is not perspective, it is not a slope, these roofs are stacked. And in that whattheblazes moment of reappraisal, our analytical mind is stumped, stopped and dumbfounded, and we are given a glimpse of that which a Zen scholar calls "the purity of experience" or perhaps, in Christian parlance, we see the light. In any event it is a very beautiful pagoda. It contains a library of books that no one reads. And those in the know can go up around the back to stand at eye level with the middle of the pagoda and look down upon the temple sharing the same grounds. Please see the photo. 案内すると感心してもらえますよ。

Shinyaba Gorge is a picturesque river valley renowned for its stunning autumn foliage and breathtaking mountain vistas. Visitors can soak in hot springs and marvel at an observatory while enjoying the beautiful scenery. However, it tends to be quite crowded with tourists, so arriving early is recommended to avoid the crowds. suspension bridge that spans the Kanmon Strait, connecting the cities of Kitakyushu in Fukuoka Prefecture and Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The bridge is a prominent landmark in the region and is widely regarded as one of the most impressive bridges in Japan.
The bridge is approximately 1.2 kilometers long and stands at a height of 47 meters above the water. The view from the bridge is stunning, with the sparkling blue waters of the Kanmon Strait stretching out in all directions. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the island of Tsushima in the distance.
One of the best ways to experience the Kanmon Bridge is by taking a leisurely drive across it. The road is smooth and well-maintained, and there are plenty of pull-off areas where you can stop and take in the view. There's also a pedestrian walkway on the bridge, which is a great option if you want to take your time and really soak in the scenery.
Another popular way to experience the Kanmon Bridge is by taking a boat tour that passes underneath it. This is a great way to get a different perspective on the bridge and really appreciate its scale and grandeur.
Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Kanmon Bridge if you're in the Fukuoka or Yamaguchi area. It's a beautiful and impressive structure that's definitely worth seeing in person

The Akama Shrine is a Shinto temple that pays tribute to an emperor from the 12th century. The shrine boasts a striking crimson main gate and offers beautiful vistas. While some areas of the temple may be closed off at times, it is generally free and accessible to all visitors seeking a peaceful respite. Though small, this shrine is well worth visiting for its serene atmosphere and proximity to Karato Market, a popular seafood destination in the area.
Calm and peace moment here at this Shrine. You can walk around the shrine to view the little tree and forest.

The last land of the Heike clan. Emperor Antoku, who was accompanied by Ninomiya, is enshrined here. Earless Hoichi is also quietly enshrined here. The structure is modeled after Ryugu Castle. It is a symbol that can be seen from the road along the coast.

Beautiful views from this shrine. It seemed like most of it was closed off and not open to wandering, but that could have been for an event. It was really beautiful on a spring day.

This shrine is popular with an ancient Earless Houichi tale, which is based on a little Emperor called Antoku's tragic death in a battle on the local water called dan-no-ura in 1185. The 6year old emperor was supported by the losing side, an unfortunate thing, and on the run. The Minamoto, the winning side caught up, had a battle then the courtiers picked him up before jumping into the sea with the boy. The shrine honors the Taira cran, the lost side. Now Houichi was an excellent Lute (Biwa) player. So good that the Taira ghosts turned up and guided this blind trainee monk to their graves for the own little concert. Houichi was happy enough to be led out every night to play for a seemingly noble crowd but his mentor monk realised Houichi was fading away and one night, caught him playing in front of the graves. What did this mentor do, to save the boy? You can Google it! 😁 Lovely place with a chrysanthemum as the emblem to show a member of Royal family tests here.

The Kanmon Strait, located between the Japanese islands of Honshu and Kyushu, serves as a vital route for both leisure boats and cargo ships. This strait holds historical significance as it was the stage for the Battle of Dannoura, which had a profound impact on Japan's history. Beneath the strait lies an underground tunnel that spans approximately 780 meters, allowing people to traverse between the two islands in about 15 minutes.

A strait that separates the main island of Japan from Kyushu. In the past, a battle that greatly affected the history of Japan was fought at the foot of this bridge.
Directly under this strait is an underground tunnel through which people can pass. The total length is about 780 meters and it takes about 15 minutes if you walk normally. It is better to go out to the exits on both sides and enjoy the two views.

Mamedamachi Shopping Street is a charming and traditional area, often likened to "little Kyoto" for its antique and traditional atmosphere. It felt like I was visiting an old country town that regular people lived. Not a tourist attraction. Anyway everything closed before 5pm even the brewery.
We went on a rainy day so we only went to two shops, but the potteries are so nice, we bought some beautiful tea cups. The shops are unattended and you need to ring the bell if you want to buy. They are professional craftsmen busy working in the workshops, not professional customer service employees, so don't be a jerk going in.

Am a potter hence wanted to visit this place to possibly make some ceramics or buy some unique pieces. However, there were probably only 4-5 shops that were opened, with many store owners being quite nonchalant and products were limited. Not as wide of a range as one would’ve expected. Interesting to still see how they pound the yellow clay using the force of the water. Love the cute (and only food store) soba and udon shop!
Wendy — Google review
It is somewhat unfortunate that it was not easy to purchase the pottery because there was no separate explanation about it. The store consists of about 8-9 stores.

When art, tradition, and nature seamlessly fuse, the resulting uniqueness establishes an identity of its own. Originality can't be replicated nor transferred; it exclusively resides within the soul of the creator. This is what it is.

Traditional village full of potters. The museum is a great place to start. You can then wander down the road and visit all the pottery studios and shops. Everything is handmade, without machinery. The clay is even pounded by the power of the stream running through the village. Very narrow roads to and from the village.

A village dedicated to pottery. Serene and tranquil, located in the middle of mountain and forest. Really nice walking in the village and admiring all the pottery items.
J Seng — Google review
This pottery village is a gem! Totally connected with the natural environment, river water is used to grind the clay taken from the river bank, very fine grinding, the potters move their wheel with their feet, the kilns are built using the natural inclination of the terrain and use the small wood pieces that remain from the local wood shops in the surroundings, I met potters with 50 years of expertise. And the local cafe prepares teuchi soba nooddles. This cafe is almost on top of the river, soft refreshing wind enters from the window and refreshes the air and brings the music of a calm stream. The lady in charge of the restaurant was very kind, loved it!

Tosu Premium Outlets is a contemporary shopping center that offers a vast selection of international brand-name items at discounted prices. Unlike other premium outlets, such as Tokyo/Kobe and Gotemba, Tosu Premium Outlets is less crowded and more relaxed, making it an enjoyable shopping experience for anyone. With its spacious layout and numerous brand options, shoppers can easily spend hours browsing through the various stores.
A nice place to take a walk. It has about 170 brands and a huge food court. Bargains for Nike, adidas quite ok. Tosu premium outlet can be reached via JR train from Hakata train station to Tosu station, then take bus 20 across the street, which departs hourly to reach Tosu Premium outlet. There are more public buses operating during Saturdays and Sundays, compared to weekdays.

Tosu Premium Outlet is highly recommended to those who enjoy shopping! The easiest way to get to the outlet from Fukuoka city is by bus. The bus departs from Nishitetsu Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal and the journey is approximately an hour. The return bus fare is very reasonable but there is only one trip on weekdays.
There are some very good bargains for a few brands like Levis, Coach, Kate-Spade, and Adidas but in general, the discounts from most stores are not great. Some of the items and handbags are rather out of season. There are over 100 stores in this premium outlet and a few good hours are definitely needed just to visit half of the shops.
There is a clean and comfortable food court located within the premium outlets and apart from Japanese food, Korean & fusion cuisine is available. There is also a Baskin-Robbins in the food court. Weekdays are the best to visit and it is never crowded at all!

Not all stores offered genuinely appealing bargains! Some of them was so obviously out-of-dated as stores only took a fraction of discount out of the original price-tag! The dining choices were almost limited!

Had a great time in Tosu Premium Outlet,
- there’s bus No.20 to Tosu station,
- and bus No.30 to Yayoigaoka station,
- both about 15-20mins wait,
- there’s taxi there too, but I recommend the bus it’s just 200-280yen dirt cheap,
There’re restaurants and food court too, I recommend the food court because the queue is not that long and the food is cheaper, I ate around 2pm and the crowd is still there, don’t recommend to eat at 12pm you need to queue really long,
- the selection at BAPE is really limited if you’re going Tosu premium outlet for this, all sizes probably S-M, hardly L, the coach pricing wise is slightly more expensive than US premium outlets, but there’s more stocks compared to US, and the quality that they took care of the products is superb, you can drop by FrancFranc too lotsa furnitures and stuff you can buy there, Mr.Tanabe from Coach Men is awesome, there’s GAP and SEIKO, I took a photo of the map and list of shops, do take a look

YANAGAWA TACHIBANA-TEI OHANA is a luxurious hotel that offers stylish rooms with tatami mats and a casual restaurant along with a beautiful garden. The location is serene, and the town of Yanagawa is picturesque with its small-town charm. Guests can enjoy traditional Japanese-style rooms, with higher floors being preferred.
Situated right near where the boat ride ends, Yanagawa Tachibana-Tei Ohana is really a great place to visit even for a meal. We didn't stay in the hotel, but we did book a private room at their restaurant (which you will need a reservation for). The private rooms have access and a beautiful view of the serene garden while you enjoy a kaiseki meal. They also serve a great unagi no seiromushi (a marinated and steamed unagi and served in laquerware).

We stayed one night in a big spacey room. The view was amazing looking right at the gardens, it was wonderful to chill on the sofa while drinking up the view. The room smelled a bit strange, I wonder if it is because of all the wood I could not place the smell. We could go to a nearby bath house for free, very convenient and not crowded. The staff was very helpful and the location is just perfect. I don't think you can find a more beautiful hotel in Yanagawa. You can get on a boat right in front of the hotel, too.

We stayed just two nights but wished that we could stay longer. Very welcoming and attentive service. We had our young daughter and the staff were all understanding and accommodating, in addition to regular help with everything. The location is quiet, and Yanagawa is quite scenic with small town charm. We stayed in the Japanese style room. The higher floor is much better if you are able to book it. We enjoyed the package with both dinner and breakfast. Both are served in the restaurant. The kaiseki dinner they serve is very tasty and substantial, and really appropriate for this price range.

The Saga Castle History Museum is a well-presented attraction that features a reconstructed main keep of the original castle built in 1838. As one of Japan's largest wooden reconstructions, it showcases maps, models, and hands-on exhibits from the last years of the Edo Period. The museum provides access to historic exhibitions about local history, nature, key figures and life depicting among others.
It's sad that saga castle did not survive the passing of time, the years of neglect, and the numerous fire incidents that eventually brought it down. This museum however encapsulate a great deal of the history surrounding the castle and the region of Saga. A lot of valuable national treasures are enclosed here and valuable history on the first vaccination in Japan, innovations in railway, and the first most advanced school on western education in Japan. The heritage of the Naomasa clan lives on and I am in awe of the history of this place which largely goes unnoticed by most Japanese folks today. Also, a particularly interesting activity to partake in is the digital photography in fictional outfits of the Edo era, the outfits are selected randomly and I was lucky to get the Samurai outfit ^_^

It’s a beautiful museum. It’s free! I got to see a skit and learned history in Saga.

Visited in January 2020. Reconstruction of the main keep of Saga Castle built in 1838, during the last years of the Edo Period. It is one of the largest wooden reconstructions in Japan. There are historic exhibitions in the museum and it is open to public. Need to remove shoe in locker before entering. Main entrance is located near Naomasa Statue / NHK building

A small but nicely setup museum for a city level. Typical content includes area nature, history, key local figures, local life depicting, etc. Free of charge. Good place for people who want to have some local knowledge.

Had a super time walking through the castle museum. Met loads of Japanese kids who were more interested in me and my wife than learning about the rich history of Saga castle and the great king who ruled the area many centuries ago.
