Great fishing trip. From the moment I meet Brent and Raywin I
feel like family. Wonderful bed and breakfast home on the water with
a hearty home cooked breakfast every morning. Raywin's halibut sandwiches on the boat make the perfect lunch. There 30 foot boat
gives you plenty of comfort and the electric reels are a real bonus.
Brent knows where and how to catch the fish. We had easy limits of
halibut and a lot of big cod. Looking forward to coming back soon

What a fantastic experience! The accommodations were comfortable and homey, and the owners were very welcoming and gracious. The provided meals, by Ashley, were absolutely delicious! Chris, the captain, was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We had a wonderful stay and great fishing adventures!

Every year my friend Mark comes to Alaska for a fishing adventure, and this year it was with Seldovia Fishing Adventures. We spent 5 days from June 18-23 with Brent and Raewyn at their B & B and had a great time fishing for halibut and salmon. Raewyn prepared breakfast every morning and lunch on the boat each day. The accommodations were very comfortable and clean, just like home. After fishing we came back to the B & B and had a couple of beers enjoying the scenery, eagles and local life of everyday Seldovia. Brent took us fishing each day either on the boat or on bad weather days, we fished in town from the bridge. I am planning another trip there, hopefully in August for the Silvers.

We’ve been on Charters from the South Pacific to the Atlantic Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, and this was by far the best EVER! Ashley and Chris are the consummate hosts…incredibly gracious, thoughtful, knowledgeable, compassionate and skilled…amazing, really. We brought home more fish than we could have imagined…and memories that will last a lifetime. We will be back for certain…and won’t even bother to call anyone else! If you don’t book them, we will, lol!!! Thank you Chris and Ashley!!!

From start to finish this trip was a fantastic voyage. Chris and Ashley know what they’re doing and they’re doing it RIGHT! 100% responsive; Ashley answered all of our questions, helped arrange our flight itinerary (shout out to Ronnie with True North Air, LLC), provided the best ‘but cheek hollandaise (not to mention the rest of the food), and was the most gracious hostess. Chris knows how to slay ‘em! He provided all the gear, the rain duds and put us on the best fish! We hauled it in!!
The town of Seldovia is amazing. The people were welcoming, warm and kind.
Once in a lifetime trip. Highly recommend it!!
Thank you again, Chris and Ashley!

Our 5 day stay, including 2 amazing days of fishing were...incredibly...wonderful. Ashley and Chris are gracious, thoughtful, and generous hosts. They worked hard to give us a top-notch vacation experience! They are passionate and gifted, and they bring that to their guests with warm and friendly attitudes. I really love how they worked together, too. Arranging for the logistics of the trip was a bit challenging, but Ashley was very responsive and helpful. Chris put us right on the fish and we came home with a lot. The boat and house were comfortable. The food was really good too. Please don't read this or tell anyone, because we want to keep this all to ourselves!

I highly recommend Seldovia fishing adventures! The company is run by a wonderful, hardworking couple. They were available to answer all my questions and went above and beyond in customer service to make our fishing charter the best day possible. Also, the shore lunch halibut sandwich was top notch and I'd almost travel the 3,747 miles all over again just for another bite!

Had amazing three days of fishing with with Chris and Ashly they made us feel like we were at home the three days we were there. couldn’t of asked for a nicer people and the fishing was amazing the boat was very well-maintained and Chris knew what he was doing to find fish.
The stay at the lodge was amazing the food for breakfast and lunch was as good of food as you can get anywhere.

Ashley, the host, could not have been more kind or helpful. She welcomed us at the dock, made our room comfy and inviting. The views are beautiful! A lovely place to stay In Seldovia!
The Pratt Museum and Park showcases exhibits on local science, history, Alaska Native artifacts, and art. Its interactive displays on wildlife captivate visitors of all ages, while the Storm Warning Theater shares sobering accounts of fishing in Kachemak Bay. Additionally, the museum features informative exhibits on Homer History, Valdez Oil Spill, Bears and Sea life. Visitors can also explore the Pratt Homestead Cabin and Forest Trails outside.
Fantastic exhibits on Homer History, Valdez Oil Spill, Bears, and Sea life. There is so much to see here that you'll need at least an hour.
Don't forget to visit the Pratt Homestead Cabin and Pratt Museum Forest Trails outside.

Bearing in mind that Homer is a fairly small town, it's a slight surprise there's a museum here at all. It's not a large building by any means, (but they do really maximize the use of the space that is available. There's art, videos, and information on the native peoples of the area, the history of the region, and life in a small seafaring community. There's also a historic cabin (which unfortunate you can't actually enter) that shows how old timers lived in the homesteading era. Price is $15, although there are various discounts.

Fabulous local museum, whale skeleton , a stuffed bear to have your picture taken with, rotating art exhibits . Not to be missed if you are in Homer. Wolves and more. Free parking

We really enjoyed this museum. We learned about the Kilcher family who appear on Alaska the Last Frontier. We also learned about animals as well as Alaskan natives way of life. So many things from floor to ceiling to look at :).

You want to getting know the place like Homer you need to go to a museum !! I am surprised the museum is displayed so well does not look like a small town museum. Lots knowledge to learn from history and people how to survived in the old days . I am graded my daughter been there to learn something.

Small.. Cheap.. Lots of information. Older lady at desk was very helpful and knew quiet a bit about the culture and history. It has local art from modern age people within the last few years and also stuff from tribes many years ago.. The back has animal info and a bird watching camera feed from bird island. Its worth going to once u hit homer to better appreciate ur surroundings
Angela Bacon — Google review
A gem in downtown Homer. Though somewhat small, it is crammed with exhibits that provide an insight into the people who came to Alaska for a fresh start. Lots of interact areas with audio about the settlers, plan to spend a lot of time if you get hooked on one of the stories. We also enjoyed the videos in the basement area with the wildlife displays. A plus for my wife who is a quilter were a number of quilts around the building including one that was being raffled off.
Outside is a example of a settler cabin including the out-building.
A very nice option on any day but especially if you need to find an inside activity on inclement weather.

An amiable little museum, exhibits about the environment, worth a visit.
The Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, also called Islands & Ocean, is a research facility and museum that serves as a home to huge numbers of seabirds. It offers informative exhibits about these birds and their habitats in an interactive way, including a replica seabird colony where visitors can hear bird calls and observe flocking behavior. This center is ideal for families looking for an educational and entertaining experience. The outside area features trails for walking or hiking after a long drive.
A wonderful center that covers all the wildlife and history of the area. You can hike down to a slough and bishops beach too. It's maybe a 10 minute walk and ADA accessible.

If you're looking for a great place to take the family then visit the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center.
The exhibits are very well done. Most of the exhibits are interactive, so the kids should have fun pressing buttons. Outside are some trails to help stretch the legs from that long drive.
Plenty of parking for vehicles and large RVs. Restrooms are here, but no food.

Great visit. So happy things are touchable again. Less stuff than they used to have before Covid. Ask at the desk for a kids activity. Fill it out and the kids get a badge.

Informative displays. Learned new things. Good pathway thru resting bird area to beach. Worth the visit
E Goecke — Google review
It's just one of those great interactive educational places for kids and believe me as an adult....I learned a lot too! There are a lot of buttons to push and a lot of sounds so the kids will enjoy it. Gets into the ecosystem and the history of the area. There's plenty of parking, no charge, no wait just walk right in. I can't review it for my 7-year-old granddaughter but I guarantee she would give it five stars. She had a blast! It's very near Bishop's beach and the tidal pools and I know they have tours that leave from there and do a walk. Didn't have time to take it but will next time.

Very informative and beautiful visitor center with lots of special programs. I was lucky enough to attend Watercolor Wednesday. While I hadn't used watercolors since grade school, the facilitator had many examples, techniques, and simply great ideas that everyone left with a beautiful memento... Even me! Such great staff - knowledgeable, courteous, and kind.
Pam Shedden — Google review
The museum offers lotta history about the local area, wildlife and indigenous people. Take the time to watch the movie as well. They do require masks with your supplied if you don’t have any while inside the building.
Marc Shoemaker — Google review
Really nice, free museum with a surprisingly broad range of exhibits. I would say that it's oriented more towards families but as a single 30 something adult I found it to be interesting enough to spend 45 minutes there. Information about local wildlife, ecology, conservation and the world war 2 battle between Japan and the US in the Aleutian islands. There are two 15 minute movies you can watch. I didn't watch either of them but I saw others who did.
Short walk from here to Bishop's Beach to get a first-hand experience of the ocean life. Stop at Two Sisters Cafe along the way to fuel up for the journey (or to treat yourself for making so many good choices in one day)
Andrew Elegante — Google review
It's free and great for families it anyone who wants to learn more about the wildlife refuge. Great exibits, friendly, helpful staff. If you can, take the walking tour outside, even the locals will learn things.

Good for kids. Very informative video in theatre hall. One nice spot with one bench after 5 minutes trail.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Tree and Sea package tours. Our guides were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We learned a ton and saw so many cool organisms!! We couldn't believe that the combined total for both tours was only $15 per person. We would have paid double for this quality without batting an eye!

We were thrilled with our Creatures under the Dock tour. Ryan and Megan were incredibly knowledgeable and were able to answer every question we had. They showed us the most amazing sea life just below our feet. We highly recommend this tour and it is well worth the money!
Tammy Herslebs — Google review
In looking for things to do on our family vacation in Alaska with children ages 5, 8 and 9 I found the Creatures of the Dock tour and thought this would be so much fun for the kids.
Well it was outside a lot fun and very interesting for us adults ages 36 to 66. There was other adults off a cruise ship who were enjoying just as much. Our guide/researcher pointed out many species growing under the docks and on boats that have not left the harbor in awhile. She was fantastic with the kids. She pulled out a true sea star and let everyone place it on their arm, it would pull up on your hair and skin. She pulled out a sea urchin for all to touch or place in their palm and showed you how to touch others anemones that were attached to the docks. They are very careful to put all back where they found them and that you are very tender with all. If you are a family ask for the family discount, was very cheap price for a great hour of your time. Highly recommend.

They do a good job of providing education about our local environment. Cheap snowshoe rentals in the summer. The small gift shop has interesting items.

Very friendly and helpful staff! I took pictures of a bird I couldn't find in our field guides and they identified it immediately. They do educational, hands-on things for the area's youth. Better than them wasting their minds and lives playing video games.

Went on a dock discovery tour with Daisy from the yurt on the spit. She was great as was the tour. I don’t know how anyone could miss this gem! Highly recommended.
Just have to say this this was a great experience for our family. Every part of the process, from the first phone call to book our trip to our last day picking up our packages of frozen fish. Our Captain Devan and deck-mate Noah went out of their way to make this a memorable day on the water. They were very personable, making sure everyone was taken care of. We all came home with halibut and fish stories to share for years. All the staff and accommodations were great, I would highly recommend Afishunt to others! Lord willing we will be back soon...
Sara Saunders — Google review
Fabulous halibut fishing trip! Noah, our captain was wonderful, he took us to the right spots and we caught our maximum per person! There were 6 of us, I caught a 100 pound halibut and another lady caught a 110 pound halibut! With 3 decent size fish and one extra large, we brought home 75 pounds of halibut, all cleaned and vacuum sealed by the great crew at Afishunt!
Betty LeHew — Google review
From start to finish, Afishunt is a truly Alaskan experience. Captain Troy and deckhand Keegan, of the Voyageur were extremely friendly and worked together very well to provide a safe, educational, fish and fun filled charter. While there were a few things that were VERY unique about this charter, the most notable of these was that we were actively catching and reeling up fish the ENTIRE day. And while none of them were "barn door" status, that didn't bother us one bit, as we were there to catch dinner, which we most certainly did. I highly recommend these guys, and will be booking another charter with them as soon as there's more room in my freezer.
R J K — Google review
I don’t see how this company gets a five star rating? I put down the required deposit, planning a trip of a lifetime for my family. The day before our trip they called and cancelled our trip stating the captain was ill. A fleet of four or five boats and they don’t have the resources to man a boat. Obviously they over booked, and yes they catch fish, but don’t trust them to get you out fishing. There are plenty of charters to chose from, pick a different company if you really want to go halibut fishing.
Brett Tschetter — Google review
Great day of fishing with Captain Troy and Maddie from Afishunt Charters. Both were knowledgeable, helpful and a lot of fun to fish with. Halibut were biting like crazy during our entire time on the water, nothing massive but plenty of fish were caught. In addition to everyone’s 2 Halibut limit, 3 cod and one Skate Ray were caught, the Skate was returned. Caught fish were well cared for on the water. Once on shore our fish was quickly cleaned, vacuumed packed, frozen then boxed for transport. We stayed on-site in a cabin, clean and well equipped. Beautiful location, great fishing, fun group, and a great crew.
MARK O — Google review
My wife and I stayed in an RV on the campground; I went on for a day of halibut fishing on one of their three boats. We enjoyed our time with both of these. The campground was very clean. Good access to restrooms, level sites, and a nice laundry facility. Not the best view of the water, but its a short walk down to the beach and you get all the amenities that you wouldn't get at the state campground on the water.
The charter boat was excellent. I had Seth as the Captain and Flynn as the deckhand. Both were super professional and helpful out on the boat. The majority of my fishing has been done in the Bay Area and with the smaller boat you were able to get more personalized attention, which I thought was nice. They were great about coaching me along on some techniques and I was able to reel in two nice sized halibut.
Overall I'd recommend Afishhunt to both stay at and charter fish from. They provide a professional service that is an enjoyable experience. And what I personally enjoyed about staying in Ninilchik over Homer was that it seems like you have a little bit more of an authentic Alaskan experience. Homer seemed a little "touristy" whereas Ninilchik was just this nice little village. I'd also recommend hitting up the coffee shop across the street when you get up in the morning.

We couldn't have asked for anything better during our charter. Noah and Keegan were fantastic, professional, and allowed us to have fun and catch fish. This was our youngest son's first charter and he definitely had the time of his life. From booking, to check in, and fish cleaning, it was a breeze. Thanks for the great experience.

Absolutely the best fishing trip I've been on. Flesia was an amazing host on the camp ground and her Captain Noah and deck hand Keagan were funny and professional. You will be amazed at how organized they are and proficient. Don't forget to order your sandwiches and grab a coffee at their main office.

I can’t say enough about the team at the RV park and our awesome fishing crew. We arrived to find a very clean, comfortable, dry, warm, and well equipped cabin and trailer to accommodate our family and friends. Great accommodations and did I mention clean. The entire experience was professional, courteous, and very friendly. We have been to AK before but AFishunt is going to get our repeat business and recommendations. We had a great boat team of Dad/Daughter of Capt Troy and Maddie(hope I didn’t misspell her name). They were super as guides and not only put us on a ton of fish, more importantly, kept us safe when the AK weather decided to get ugly. This is a top notch place and I would give it 6 stars if possible because of the friendly and over the top down to earth customer service this team gives.

Skilled captains and clean facilities. They will put you on fish and make sure you’re having a great time while fishing. Everyone associated is friendly and helpful for the best experience you can have.
Went on the spring bear transportation/fishing charter. Captain Tanner and Josh were top notch! Awesome hunting and fishing experience. Would definitely recommend! Company took care of all of our needs, and we're super helpful before, during, and after the trip.
Chance McAllister — Google review
Ninilchik Charters cancelled my trip the day before and explained with mechanical issue, while one day before the cancellation they reminded me of the departure of the trip. I doubt whether it is true mechanical issue, but that is fine. I fortunately found another fishing charter and had a good experience. However, until today which is 20 days after the cancellation I still haven't received the promised refunding from Ninilchik Charters. Why it only took one or two days for them to decide to cancel my trip, while it has taken so long to do the refunding that is much easier?
**Update: they completed the refund after about 23 days. I will be giving a 4-star in this case.

Went out with Skylar today and had a great time! We all caught some awesome size halibut not just over size "chickens". He took us to an area that was just to catch big fish and we did just that. He even encouraged us to throw back some pretty decently sized fish to catch a bigger one. He was very enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. Definitely would go out fishing with him again!

One of the top adventures that I’ve been on in my life! We encountered bears close up on two different trails and also observed them from a distance. The guides were great, I would definitely recommend this trip!

We did 2 days of river fishing for Salmon and 2 days deep sea for Halibut during the week of June 13th. We caught our limit of Halibut each time with some real good size fish. We also brought home a load of Cod. We missed the initial Salmon run, so fishing was spotty but the guides for the entire week were outstanding. I would recommend this service for a great time.

Do not book with Ninilchik Charters out of Seward.
My nephew booked a multi species charter on 6-8-2023 with Ninilchik Charters out of Seward.
First of all the boat was only about 25’ and the Captain was very young and had been in Alaska about 1 month. Second after riding for about 1 1/2 hours one of the motors quit working. They had had the oil changed a few days prior and the plug was not put back therefore causing motor to stop. They didn’t even make it out far enough to fish for Halibut. My nephew caught 2 - 6” fish. The other 3 people on boat did not catch but 1 or 2. Four foot swells added to the calamity especially when you are stalled in the water. Please refund my nephews money asap as Ninilchik Charters did not fulfill their contract as advertised. Thank you
Thank you for acknowledging the disappointing fishing day. Appreciate it.
Peg Redding — Google review
Ninilchik charters was excellent to go with. Our captains took care of all seven of us and did what it took to get us on the fish. Best of all is they were willing to stay until we all caught our limits. We each were able to get one large fish, in the 50lb range and then a smaller one. John the owner or manager was excellent to work with.

They are very helpful! Reasonably priced for charters and lodging. It was my first time in Alaska, and I've always wanted to go salmon fishing. This charter made it possible by creating a package for me that was within my budget!
I highly recommend going through this charter!

We had a successful day with everyone getting their halibut limit. Captain Colby was very friendly and helpful. The way they launch the boats from shore to the wake was very interesting. It was a great day with friends. Our friends were able to park their RV there and with full hookups it was very affordable.

Went out with Ninilchik charters yesterday! Even before the trip started they went above and beyond to get us on the water as we were looking to book a trip before they actually opened making us their first trip of the season! Amazing group of guys! Had an amazing time. Started out not so great as my wife’s phone fell out of her pocket and into the harbor while getting on the boat lol. The crew as very fast to react however unfortunately there was never a chance to get it. Very happy that a crew member made every effort to try though! Very knowledgeable about fishing! Unfortunately my wife became seasick and asked to go back. Captain Thomas was very understanding and agreed. However he was determined to get us some fish and when we got into calmer water and noticed my wife was feeling better asked if she would feel comfortable fishing in the calm water which she agreed to. We ended up having a great time! 10/10 would go fishing with these guys again.

The Sundy took my friends and I out, along with 13 other people for an 8 hour halibut trip. When we got to the fishing spot and started catching Halibut, the deck hand started keeping our fish without telling us. One person from our group caught their limit in 15 minutes and was no longer allowed to fish.
Then, when I told the deck hands I wanted to keep fishing and not keep small fish, they told us it was about to storm although there were no storms in the forecast and we needed to hurry. So, our group of 17 people caught their "limits" in 3 hours.
The best part is when we got back to the dock (at 1pm instead of 4:30pm). The coast guard and federal agents were waiting for us and searched the boat. When the authorities entered the boat the whole attitudes changed of the boat crew. When the Police measured the fish carcasses, checked log books, and licenses, they were not happy! We should have had 17 fish over 28 inches and 17 under 28 inches. We only had 5 fish over 28 inches when we should have had 17! So, the charter lied to us about our fish size and were keeping way too many undersized fish! We got jipped. We paid $400/person and got small fish and a half-day excursion. This charter will take you to a "Chicken Yard" to where you limit out fast. If you're looking for "Barn Doors", this is NOT the charter for you, if they're still in business after the Coast Guard and Federal Police got done with them. They will also tell you to NOT leave a bad review, but this place is A RIPOFF!

I was fortunate enough to have gone out fishing with these guys in 2019. I had a great time. Every fishing spot we hit we caught fish. The captain's secret spots are real! The young captain was good. Even though it was a halibut fishing trip, I was lucky to have caught a huge silver salmon as well. The only downside of the trip for me was I got my limit a little too early into the trip. I spent the remaining half of the trip sleeping in the cabin.
Homer Spit is a renowned attraction known for its exceptionally long road into the ocean, offering beautiful scenic bay views and a variety of restaurants and camping sites. For those who love to explore, it is an ideal spot for long walks on the beach, jogging, playing with pets or indulging in meditation. Visitors can also observe the fascinating rise and fall of tides during their visit.
It's a cool boardwalk area with lots of independent shops and restaurants. So many cool souvenirs and all the shops had different custom items. We had a great afternoon exploring the area

We spent 4 days here, it was fantastic really. My husband rented a pole for $20 and spent the day fishing at the fishing hole. Caught 2 Salmon! We shopped the boardwalk and took a boat ride to Seldovia (Highly Recommended) . My husband took a Charter boat out one day and caught Halibut/rock fish/Cod. Very fun 4 days. Do not stay at the Heritage RV park unless you want to look at the backside of campers or miraculously caught the one day a beach site opened up. You can ask every day for an opening and they will say none available and then book someone else in those spots. Stay at the end at the Homer Spit Campground they have better views for everyone and easier to work with. Heritage they were rude to some people down the way and they almost left because of it.

Heaven on earth. The views, eagles and nature just captures everything in your soul, lots to do for activities, fishing, kayaking, bird watching. Tons of restaurants and gift shops. Huge camp ground for RVs or tent camping. Must see. Keep the beach and Homer clean.

Honestly I expected a damp, wet , dreary day full of yellow slickers and the smell of fish. WOW, was I surprised! Pure beauty!!!! I am so happy we rerouted this into our trip. I still talk about Homer ❤️

Breath taking views of the ocean, harbor, snow mountain range..
Love the melodies of the waves and the winds.
Stood in the end of homer spit for a few hours at 8 degree.. didn’t even notice hands got freezing cold..
What an experience...
Saw this lone bald eagle resting on a branch, and I stood with it for the whole morning..
Saw sunrise behind the snow mountain peak.
Stunned by the scenery.
Feeling this inner peace and freedom.
Feeing the moment when I have all the scenery by myself.
This serenity and tranquility are what to live for. (Break away from stressing city life.)
People are here so kind and warm-hearted ,
With the best scenery and nature you can get in this planet, I cherish every second here in Homer, in Alaska...

Gorgeous views, mostly good restaraunts, cute seaside aesthetic, it's a fun place to walk around and shop when the weather is nice. Lots of local art featured in stores. Great place to take a fishing charter, water tour, or play pokemon go. Downside is it is super crowded, both with vehicles and people. RV campgrounds at the beginning smell super bad. Worth the visit If you haven't been.

Hiked the Spit December 21st and really enjoyed the views and the American bald eagle watching, we saw at least 10 different eagles up close. The hiking path is black top and will maintained and distanced adequately from the road. What's really cool is just walking along the beach on either side of the road. Hike is just over 6 miles long out and back. Beach had great views of mountains. Lots of cool shops at the end.

Note- My trip was in July 2019
Had the most amazing time and it was by far the highlight of my AK trip. We were initially supposed to go out but due to inclement weather, we were grounded. I'm glad they stress safety first and its not just about making money. Once rescheduled, I had a great experience thanks to my guide Luke! He was very knowledgeable and took me to some ideal spots to photograph bears and other wildlife. Once I had enough footage, we went fishing and as you can see from the photos, it was a good one! Absolutely beautiful time. Already planning to return again. Can't wait!

Nate was our pilot for a field work trip out to Vogel lake, and we was absolutely phenomenal. Could not happier with the service. He got us out there and picked us up as planned, but he went above and beyond (quite literally:-) to answer all the questions I had, since it was my first time on a float plane. Thanks so much Nate for letting me be your copilot, and for the awesome experience and incredible memories- one of the coolest things I did while I was here!!

This was my second adventure with Alaska West Air and it again did not disappoint! My dad and I went two days in August 2013 with Tony and had such a great time. My dad loved it so much, he and my mom went back several years in a row after that and had Badger as a guide. My partner and I had Daniel as a guide this time and again we had a blast. We saw bears (which was super awesome) and lots of beautiful scenery. Daniel was really helpful to everyone in our group. I highly recommend Tony, Badger, and Daniel, as well as everyone at Alaska West Air! Service is excellent and the experiences of breathtaking scenery and adventure will stay with you! Can't wait to come back again!

Took my son to Alaska for some quality father and son time. This was our fly-out excursion and it was fantastic! Plane trip views were unbelievable, Alaska right. Caught our fish, saw some bears, then flew over the glacier. All in all, friggin AWESOME!!!

Our group flew to crescent lake,it was an adventure of a lifetime. From our pilots taking us close to glaciers and our guide Josh putting us on fish, viewing brown bears on the beach with us. The views are stunning and we highly recommend this trip. Top notch professional people with a great attitude. Thank you all for a great experience.

My fiancé and I splurged and decided to do the bear viewing and fishing for our last full day in Alaska (our first time here). It was incredible! Alaska West Air was recommended by a friend who used them less than a week before so we reached out last minute and thankfully spots were available. Flip was our guide and his passion for what he does along with making sure his passengers have a good experience is everything you could want. He was amazing! Highly recommend him as your guide! We saw so many bears and caught our limit of fish quickly. We lucked out with great weather. On the way back I guess you usually fly over the glacier but the weather going out was starting to get bad so we skipped that. Bummer but also happy that they value our safety over anything else. This was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend using Alaska West Air

I had the pleasure of flying with Alaska West Air via a fly-in fishing package with Jimmie Jack’s Fishing and this trip was truly exceptional. Duncan was our pilot and he made flying the DHC-2 Beaver look like a walk in the park. The scenery was phenomenal and it was a nice comfortable flight across the Inlet to the fishing spot. Everyone at the lodge who did the fly-in was also talking about what an incredible experience it was. I’d recommend this trip to anyone, any day.

Nice visitors center. Friendly staff. Movies about the area. Gift shop, nice restrooms. Great place for information on places to see and things to do. Also has a Saturday market in the parking lot, with many local arts and crafts, food and fun. A must visit when you get to kenai.
Wonderful visitor center to start your visit to the Kenai Wildlife National Refuge Visitor Center. The display showing the salmon run is fascinating as it shows with little lights the salmon swimming from the ocean to the various rivers in the National Refuge. There are also great displays showing the rich diversity of the area in terms of wild animals. The bear in the refuge shows clearly the majesty of these animals. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. A visit to the Kenai Wildlife National Refuge Visitor Center is worth every minute of your time!

Excellent nature's place. The staff here is very nice, helpful and knowledgeble of the area and it's habitants. The visitor center it's packed with information and the trails are beautiful. We even got the pleasure of seeing a mama Moose with it's calf, no more than 25 feet from us at the Centennial Trail. Well worth the time spent here.

The visitor Center was closed due to the COVID, which was a real bummer, but the trailhead had useful information as well as informative plaques throughout the trails. The trail is well managed and the wildlife viewing was abundant. Hikers beware, signs of bears throughout and the moose we encountered were ill tempered. Make plenty of noise and respect a safe distance between animals.
Christopher Beegle — Google review
They have a nice walking trail near the statue of the big moose that does about a 3 mile loop with a couple shorter loops. The trails were nice with a boardwalk section down to water. Bring your bug spray and maybe even bear spray as bear frequent the area, per the sign on the trail.

She helped us plan our trip back toward anchorage and wr learned a lot about the area! Great little exhibit set up as well. It was rainy so we did not do the trails. But well worth the stop. Masks required right now but they have some in the entrance for you.
The food was great and so was the atmosphere. Had a Reuben and a grilled chicken sandwich. Both regular and sweet potato fries were cooked to golden perfection. The beers were liked by the other people in our group. It was nice to be able to bring the dogs to the back patio area as well.

Beer counter is nice and easy to read, awesome choices. I had the breakfast beer.
It had a nicely balanced earthly oat with only light bitter back note. The food choices are well known; poutine with beer gravy and cheese curds was delicious, well balanced gravy with melty cheese curds and proper portions.
These paired nicely for a brunch visit.

I came to Kenai River Brewing with a large group of 10 in early June. We came during the lunch hour and as expected, it was busy. They did a great job getting all our food out in a timely manner and worked with our group to get us a seat.
The food here was delicious. I ordered the Reuben with Sweet Potato Fries and it did not disappoint. The sandwich was piled with meat and the fries were cooked perfectly.
Ordering was done at a central register and food was brought out to us at the table. Tables were seat yourself and the staff was helpful with suggestions for what to order. It was relatively quick given the lunch rush and the staff was very friendly.
The ambiance was exactly what I would expect from a brewery. People were laid back and friendly. Overall, I'd definitely come back and highly recommend it to anyone looking to grab a bite in the Soldotna area.
Nature is beautiful around here. You can spot some bears in the area, so be prepared. It's a nice hike, in the end you might spend some time at the falls watching how fish fights to get up the falls.

Amazing place to watch salmon run and maybe catch some bear viewing. Easy 5mi round trip trail good for all versions of hikers.
$11 CASH ONLY to park for the day before hiking/fishing. A grizzly has been living there for quite some time, I was lucky enough to catch some awesome pictures when she and her cubs came out. You are never guaranteed to see a bear, so be patient!

More of a stroll than a hike. Very easy to follow with quite a few offshoots.. most likely game trails. I was searching for bears here but I didn't see any.
Captain Cake — Google review
A good 2.5 miles from the campground to the Falls/rapids.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a falls as it is pretty much white water rapids. Its not to hard of a hike however with an 8 & 12yo you would think its Mount Everest.
The water was flowing alot and didn't see any bears.
Keith Gammel — Google review
Easy and beautiful hike up to the falls (took us 2 hours total) and even if we didnt see bears fishing, we did watch the salmon jumping for 15 mins so hike was worthwhile.

Beautiful, amazing natural falls. If you're lucky you may see a bear eating salmon as they jump up the falls, which is a sight to behold. I highly recommend doing the 2 mile hike to see the falls, it is definitely worth it. The path for the hike is a good gravel path, so even those who are not prime walkers can make the hike fairly easily.

We visited on a Monday in early June. We were able to watch a handful of salmon leaping out of the water trying to traverse the rapids against the current. It took some patients, but if you kept an eye out you would see one jump every 3 to 4 minutes

This is a great hike. The trail is well maintained and easy. About 4 miles round trip. It is amazing to see the salmon jumó up the falls. We stayed at the end for a couple hours enjoying the unique experience. I’d highly recommend doing this hike.
Tron Graham — Google review
We couldn’t finish the trek completely because of the closure of a part of it for maintenance. The hike seemed like a bit of repetition of experience we had during slaughter trail. I recommend doing just one trek in this region. It saves time for other activities like rafting and fishing.
Apoorva Kiran — Google review
It is so fascinating to watch the salmon try to go up these falls.
Some jump right into the rocks. Some swim furiously up the intense roaring channels only to be swept back down again. Some jump to a middle pool and then to an upper pool only to be swept back down a different channel. A few make it to the next round of falls and start the ordeal again.
A seagull watched all day long on the shore for a salmon to give up and provide it with an easy meal.
It really makes you think about the intense struggle of life.
This location allows you to watch from above on two different platforms. You can also hike down to the bottom of the falls to get a closer look. I was able to reach into a pool and touch the salmon who were temporarily resting before their next attempt.
Michael Bowers — Google review
You need luck and patience to see some bears hunting the salmon fishes. And it’s Alaska, so you need bear spray and bug spray.
Had a great time hiking about 5 miles total, to the falls and back.
Colin Minnick — Google review
We stayed at the campground. I was disappointed with the condition of their dumpster in the campground. See picture. The dumpster had smelly garbage bags hanging on the outside. It had been over full for days and just been emptied. I am surprised it didn't attach bears.
I felt the black bears on the river were aggressive. They appear to have learned to take fish stringers from left them unattended. I thought I observed this two times. My son and I were also stalked by a black bear while fishing in an isolated area on the Kenia River. We realize it was waiting for us to catch a fish. We stopped fishing and decided we needed to leave. The bear had us pinned in the river while it stood on the bank. When it moved back in the brush, we cautiously moved a few feet down the bank and exited the river. Futunately, went we could got out river the bear fled as we were moving thru the brush.

I'll never travel to Whittier without this trip planner again
Kenai Fjords National Park boasts a stunning glacier that is accessible via nature center and hiking trails. Visitors are advised to rent a car from budget rental providers like Alamo or Sixt, as most hotels and other excursions require transportation. While Seward is primarily known for Exit Glacier, the one-mile loop hike may not be enough for experienced hikers who crave more adventure. The 7-9 hour Harding Icefield Trail offers a rustic experience with less tourist activity.
There are three options for Exit Glacier. I highly recommend Option 3 for the Ice Hike and/or climb if you are physically fit enough to do so!
OPTION 1: WALK THE GLACIER VIEW TRAIL. This is an easy loop and you'll get a distance photo shot of the glacier. I would recommend this for those that do not hike very frequently.
OPTION 2: HIKE TO HARDING ICEFIELD. This is going to be a long strenuous hike, but all the locals talk about how incredible it is to get to the top and see the ice field go on for miles. It is 8 miles round trip. I would recommend using the All Trails application or talking to a local guide. There are local guides that will take you on this trip as well if you're not comfortable doing it with out.
OPTION 3: ICE HIKE OR CLIMB ON EXIT GLACIER. This should be done with a local guide from Seward. I recommend Exit Glacier Guides, though there are other companies. All tour companies are limited to 6 guest max with 2 guides for permits. It will include a 1.5 mile hike out to access the glacier, provided gear change before hiking onto the glacier, and then repelling into the glacier if you purchased the climbing package. By far the best activity we did in all of Seward and a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Note: you will sweat on the way up, and be freezing cold at the top of glacier due to wind. Pack layers.
FACILITIES: There is one road into the park and if you're driving yourself, they caution parking availability (plenty in August on a weekday in 2021). Lots of shuttle options available from Seward otherwise. There is a restroom and water available at the trailhead.
MUST BRING: Sunglasses (MUST HAVE due to reflection from sun), sunscreen, water, rain gear, synthetic layers from shorts & t-shirt to hat/mittens/wind jacket, bear spray if hiking with out a guide (can rent this from Exit Glacier Guides as most stores will be out).
SAFETY TIPS:
- Glaciers constantly are shifting and cracks can be 50 meters deep with freezing rushing water underneath. Do not step onto the glacier with out a guide!
- Due to Covid, bear spotting have been increasing in 2020-2021. Rent bear spray and learn how to use it. Watch a video about bear safety & never run from a bear.
- Research the best time of year to hike or climb. Avalanche danger is real and they close the park for safety.
- Do not underestimate elevation, hydrate early
- Bring more water than you think you'll need (1 Liter min. per person for lookout hike or hike with guides, 2 Liter min. if going all the way to ice field). If go with guides, they will allow you to refill with glacier water at the top.

Great place. The glacier is retreating every day. There are trails can see the track of retreating history. Better to visit after June. Because it only opened up to Marmot Meadows, when we visited early June last year.

Cool Glacier. Easy quick trail. If you go to the bottom of the glacier boots are a must to make it easier walking in the rocks and over the streams. From inside the glacier is awesome. How old is the ice above... the weight above... it's eerie.

This place is a must! Great hike upto the glacier. Lots of rocks to climb on. Easy trail at first but more of a moderate climb up by the glacier. Worth the hike
Becca — Google review
If you are staying in Seward, you must visit the glacier. If you have the time (and stamina) you need to hike up the trail to the Harding Icefield as well. It is an 8 mile hike (round trip) and climbs 4,000 feet so bring plenty of water. You will ascend above the tree line as you go up. It is a bit cool at the top, but the view is magnificent.
Bill Delperdange — Google review
Absolutely love going this! Wish I had more time to hike to the ice fields but the hike to Meadows was enjoyable even during a constant light rain hike. Worth going. Best part is free to enjoy nature. Has signs to show where glacier was in what's years. Perfect hike for a lunch date with a view

I went in the off season. Would strongly suggest getting a snow mobile otherwise the 7.5mi hike (the road is out) is too much. We only made it to the parking lot because some of the hikers were struggling in the soft snow and the sun was going to set soon. We also encountered an angry moose so be warned. Glacier still looked cool from there.

I love hiking and going to the Exit Glacier was a lifetime experience. We even had lunch on top of the glacier.

This is a relatively easy 2 mile loop to Glacier Overlook. Take the Glacier View Loop trail through the woods to get to the Glacier View point and then take the Glacier Overlook Trail to the Glacier Overlook point. The first half is a paved and easy trail with no elevation gain. The second half has some elevation gain and is rocky. Please wear sturdy shoes. See beautiful panoramic vistas of the Exit Glacier as it spills down the Harding Icefield. Do visit the Nature Center at the start of the trail. It has lovely exhibits related to glaciation and Kenai Fjords National Park. 1.5 hours is a decent time at this trail and nature center.

This is an easy walk and fun, climbing rocks and exploring the outwash. We spent about 2 hours here just exploring. Had to circle the parking lots twice for parking at 1pm. There are bathrooms and the rangers are very helpful. We saw lots of people but still were able to walk the trail alone.
Great place to stop, even with kids. Don’t miss these amazing views!!

Gorgeous hike with stellar fall colors! We did the hike to the glacier overlook and it was pretty easy with only a few short inclines. Sad but cool to see the signs showing where the glacier was at different times. A must-hike if you’re in the area!
The Harding Icefield Trailhead is a popular and challenging 8.2-mile hike in Kenai Fjords National Park. The trail climbs steeply, gaining 1,000 feet of elevation for every mile, offering stunning views of the glacier and icefield below. Hikers can expect to pass through forests, meadows, and above the tree line. While some parts of the trail have cell service, it's recommended to be prepared for limited connectivity.
Enjoyed this hike! We went up to Top of the cliffs and the climb was steep, but not too uncomfortable. The view of the glacier is stunning!

Stunning views. As it was mentioned, it’s really a strenuous hike. For me more than the hiking challenge, the flies challenge was bigger. Plan with all precautions for flies and mosquitoes. Many of them who knows about flies in this place were wearing face net. So bug spray is much needed than bear spray for this hike.

Probably one of the best hikes I've done. We climbed up to the Marmot Meadows and it took about 3 hours round trip, at a decent pace. This hike is pretty steep and could be challenging, I would recommend taking trekking poles if you have any (otherwise, grab a stick!). In the beginning of June there was still snow in some areas, so make sure you bring appropriate shoes. It makes it a bit more challenging, but totally doable. Once at the Marmot Meadows, you'll have amazing views of both the glacier and the valley. Enjoy!

One of the best trails in Alaska..it's about 8 miles hike with an elevation gain of ~3200 feet..it takes about 4-5 hours on an average to complete it.. views are amazing..when I visited most of the trail was covered with snow still there are plenty of people were hiking.. remember it's Near county so recommendation is to carry bear spray and stay alert .. overall a great Hike..

We did the hike on Aug 12. It was a wet and foggy, so we did not expect a clear view. We completed about 2/3 of the trail. The trail was a bit hard below the tree line, but after the tundra, it was just fine. The fog was blown away for just 5 minutes and it was just like a show to see the amazing glacier from the top of the mountain. Highly recommend if you have more than 5 hours in the park.
Yuezhou Wang — Google review
It was the hardest best thing ever. It took my wife and I about 7 hours. It isn't a joke. 3200 ft elevation gain over 4 miles. It is a total of about 9.5 out and back.
Joe Troyer — Google review
One of the coolest hikes my wife and I have ever done. The views are incredible! You feel like you’re in the jungle at the beginning, but it isn’t long before you emerge above the tree line and get fantastic views of the valley and mountains behind you. The uphill climb is pretty steep until you get completely out of the woods. The views at the initial landing are incredible. After that the uphill hiking is a little less steep, but it’s pretty consistent all the way to the end. It’s well worth it, as the view of the glacier up to the Harding Ice Field is breathtaking in its beauty and scale.
I definitely recommend starting early. We did and were very happy for it, as we encountered droves of people making their ascent on our way down. People were still starting up the trail come Noon.
Don’t miss this one if you’re anywhere in the area and looking for a daylong hike!

Moving experience to witness the documented retreat of this glacier. The trail is easily navigated for those appropriately dressed and reasonably mobile. Look for the 1899 posted sign outside the park, your journey starts there.

Strenuous hike up to the end of the trail...but definitely worth it...take your time getting up there...stop a lot and take in the views, they get better the higher up you go. Lots of wildflowers along the last third of the trail...during early August.

We went as far as Marmot Meadows. Fairly steep climb, but a great view of the glacier at the top and the valley along the way.
We thought taking the steeper climb would make the trail pretty private. No. By the time we came back down to check out, we counted 234 people who had begun the climb after us in the three hours or so since we began. We enjoyed talking to many of them. But if you want to feel like you're alone in the wilderness, this probably isn't your trail.

Beautiful place to enjoy the water and wildlife. Stick around long enough and you'll see eagles and sea otters all over the place.

I love Seward, friendly people, great fishing, relaxing environment, lots of bald eagles, and great trails to hike. If you're in AK, you got to go to Seward.

If you're looking to launch your boat or watch some wildlife then the Seward Boat Harbor is a great place to visit.
The Seward Boat Harbor is a great place to launch a boat or even a kayak. The boat launch is located near the Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor Center on 4th Street and the kayak launch is located at the Northeast corner of the Seward Boat Harbor. Parking is a pain, so you will need some coins or a credit card to pay for time.
The Seward Boat Harbor is home to wildlife including sea otters. If the sun is bright you can see fry swimming in gigantic numbers below the catwalks. Occasionally a bald eagle will sit on a tall light pole looking for fish too.
The Seward Boat Harbor is a great resource, but the sad reality is the expansion many years ago removed a significant amount of beach. The beach was a great place to snag King Salmon. While the fishing near the Seward Boat Harbor isn't the same the expansion did modernize and expand the Seward Boat Harbor capacity.

We use transient mooring all the time, clean restrooms, easy to reach dumpsters, well kept docks and ramps!
I am impressed with Alaska's historical (and easy to understand) placards which are placed throughout the state. Therefore I make it a must to always look at them and here was no different. For starters: I had no idea their passenger train service is so vast and practical -- yet still young at only 100 years old! And now proud to know it exists primarily through the generosity of the lower 48 state's taxpayers, military, railroads, and diverse labor pool -- bravo to one and all!
Marcel Longe — Google review
It would be nice to know more about current use for the train cars. It looks like they're used for something modern, as there are wool rugs inside.
Still, a cool vignette of AK history, even if it brags about white men not needing Native's help until a labor shortage happened.
These portapotties had toilet paper in them, unlike others we used, such as at Glen Alps Trailhead, which had none.

Always stop here when leaving Anchorage the bathrooms are clean and the kids always love checking out the train. The view is epic aswell

Great quick stop to know your scenic stops through the bottom of the state park along the Seward Hwy. Being from Nebraska all my life big trains were king, I've never seen a snow blower up close though. Great history point that will only cost you 6 minutes.

If you like trains make a stop, view the okie and you also may see a train pass by.
The Glen Alps Trailhead offers a scenic hiking route, surrounded by blueberry bushes and hemlock trees. The trail provides stunning views of Anchorage and Cook Inlet which are especially impressive during the winter season. While the hike starts out easy, it becomes moderate with the addition of steps and ultimately challenging towards the end. Despite potential treacherous conditions in the parking lot after snowfall, this short hike is worth paying the $5 parking fee for its panoramic views.
An amazing place in The winter if the weather is good like it was today. It was -2 but when you get moving and blood flowing you don’t notice it. The sites and views are amazing and beautiful, that’s all I can really say. I plan to come back next year in the summer and really see what it’s about. I highly recommend you come and see it!!!

This place was absolutely beautiful. I went mid February, and everything is covered in snow. Really cold out, but worth the cold hands and red face for some photos and general look-see

This a Great place to Hike with absolutely great views. They have easy trails and they have strenuous trails. But either way you get a great view all around

Great hike. Starts of easy, them becomes moderate when climbing steps. The final stretch is hard. Descending was difficult for a beginner like me. Worth it, felt accomplished when we were at the top.

Great hike. There are so many options to lead into after you do the 2 mile loop. Loved it.

This is not an easy hike before the snow melt. Even after, the trail is covered in gravel in many areas and poorly maintained. But the view is breathtaking, especially on a sunny day. You are facing west, looking over the whole Anchorage, and the mountain range that is part of Lake Clark National Park.

We went after a foot of snow fell. A bit treacherous in the parking lot with a car because no snow removal. DO PAY THE $5 PARKING FEE!!!! They do check. Short hike, great views.

Oh I love going to the Glen Alps Flattop Trail. We don’t go to where the flag is at but we love to go to the other side where we take pictures and look down on Anchorage. My family loves to go there but sadly we moved so whenever we visit Anchorage we will always make time to go there.

Immediate uphill climb before leveling out a bit. Then resumes the climb until you get to a lovely viewpoint of anchorage! You can stop here or continue up a rock scramble to the top. Worth the scramble in my opinion!
Hannah Bergquist — Google review
A must visit if you love nature and are stopping by Anchorage. The views from the top are absolutely stunning. Do be prepared that the trail can be a little tough. Went in the first week of June and the front side of the mountain was still snow covered in many places. For an experienced hiker, I was able to get it done in sneakers with no special equipment and I saw many others from young children to seniors able to make it up with some difficulty. I would recommend having the right equipment, some micro spikes or some outdoor boots with a deep tread for snowy conditions would come in handy for those slippery areas.
The reward at the top however is well worth the journey. I was able to do it in ~1 hour each way but allocate 1.5-2 hours for beginners. Also make sure to check out the “back” trail otherwise known as the sunny side flattop mountain trail. Talking to others, that direction was much easier without many snowy or slippery sections. Parking is $5 for all day parking payable with a credit card or cash. Plenty of parking to accommodate everyone but if you arrive at peak periods in the early afternoon, you might have some trouble finding parking. The later afternoon clears out the parking lot a little bit and with daylight until midnight, still plenty of time left to hike and explore.

You will get a birds eye view from this beautiful flattop mountain. It will a great place to get a photoshoot for a family with the ocean on one side and mountains with snow on the other side. Easy accessibility to the bathrooms. The parking is also decent though over the weekend it will be tough to get a spot. A must 2 hr trip if you are visiting Anchorage.

Wow, what can I say about this unexpected thrilling hike. My buddy and I thought this was going to be a short and relatively flat hike.
We were pleasantly surprised that this was one of the more challenging hikes I have done in the past few years. I've climbed MT. Kenya and while this was nowhere near that, the experience offered a taste of some fun climbing for a novice and naive hiker.

The Eagle River Nature Center is a wonderful place to learn about and enjoy nature. The center has miles of hiking, Nordic skiing and riding trails, as well as a variety of classes and resources to help get kids (and adults!) excited about Alaskan wildlife and environment. The location in the Chugach Mountains is quite scenic, making it an ideal spot for a day out or relaxing weekend getaway.
This was a fun activity for our family. Great hikes and trails for kids to burn energy. The views were awesome. Can’t wait to bring other visitors here and share this cool place.

Had a great visit in March. People working there were SO friendly and helpful. This is a gorgeous place for an easy hike. We did the 3 mile Albert Loop trail in hiking boots and was very well maintained in winter. But the shorter hike is also fabulous with boardwalks over the water. Saw a large beaver dam. Views are outstanding
Chaz William — Google review
Beautiful location for hiking, wildlife viewing and education. There are several trail options, from a 0.75 mile nature loop, up to several miles around the park site, all of which provide scenery and wildlife. A couple of the longer trails were closed due to increased bear activity when we recently stopped, but even the short loop had recently featured a moose sighting. For our stop, some birds and migrating salmon were the extent of the wildlife present. The boardwalks over the creek and marsh provide beautiful spots to take in the majestic mountains, and the woods are scenic no matter the season.

Beautiful views and easy to walk trails! We did part of the Rodak Trail and call of Albert Loop. Great for a family with young children. Can't wait to go check out Dew Hill trail!

My local park. I live a mile from the Eagle River Nature Center. It’s a great place to reconnect with nature. Bears in the summer, moose in the winter. After the first mile, the crowds and kids drop away and it’s really pleasant.
UPDATE: things have changed and I didn’t renew my membership because they are very unwelcoming to dogs and started charging for free events like the solstice walk. I still love these woods but the management has decided to focus on children who destroy the peace and quiet and litter the trails with trash and dirty nappies. Its a real shame 🥲
Angela Birt — Google review
I have only visited this park in the winter, but it was beautiful. The hike was not hard at all even in the snow, but it would be difficult for someone with an injury, with small children, etc. There are several lookout points and bridges along the way which make for nice viewing. We took the Albert loop which is about 3ish miles, but there are other shorter and longer options. You do have to pay for parking, which is $5, but there is a kiosk where you can pay with a credit card.

*Really* great nature center! Well-maintained trails, beautifully diverse and pristine landscape, and really nice yurts peppered throughout. Highly recommend!
Amber Schlater — Google review
Beautiful in the summer and fall for walks and hikes!
Those looking for a nice place to cross country ski look elsewhere! The trail isn't really groomed like advertised as it's more a single multiuse trail that's compacted into ice and uneven. If going to the yurts in the winter beware the wood provided was wet cottonwood. We had to refuel the stove every 2 hours, even with it on low, and the next day ran into a couple that left in the night since they couldn't get warm in their yurt.

I LOVED the many displays and touchable info. They were very specific to the park nature. Reading them before hiking helped make the hike better. A pleasant surprise was finish our hike just time for a wild food presentation. Thanjs!!!

Enjoyed the short nature trails and magnificent scenery at this nature center. We visited in early June on a pretty Sunday evening. Trails were very easy to negotiate- not muddy. Didn’t see any significant wildlife but did see a brown bear and her young one along the road less than a mile or so when leaving the area.

Incredible views and a pristine environment. This place is like straight out of a NatGeo nature documentary.
We went on a Sunday so the visitor center was closed but the nature area and hikes are still open to the visitors.
You can drive up to the visitor center, hike here and continue down towards Chugach State Park.
These areas are remote and frequented by bears 🐻 and mooses 🫎 so be careful and vigilant while on the trails.

Hiked the dew lake loop trail and it was gorgeous if a little cold. Dressed properly it was no issue. The one moose we came across barely deigned to notice us. Though a firearm is never a bad thing to bring along...

This place is beautiful. It's an easy small trail hike around that is family friendly. I do say that lightly as there are bears and other wild life around so do be prepared for any unannounced visitors. But other than that it's a really scenic place perfect to get away and enjoy nature. The trail is free just pay for parking which is 5 dollars for a regular car. Do be sure to being a pen to write on the envelope.

Great place to go for a easy hike down into the valley to Eagle River surrounded by the majestic Chugach Mountain range. The Albert Loop is a maintained loop that is an easy to moderate trail hike.
There is a parking fee based upon duration.

We went in early April when it still had snowy weather. Very gorgeous! Most trails were blocked off for construction or something so we took the short trail and just visited this deck. I believe it was the Beaver deck. Not sure, but it was beautiful. Only 5 dollar parking. The parking ticket is usually a momento for us so not a big deal.
A luxury resort hotel in Anchorage, Alaska, Alyeska features Native influences, natural beauty, and modern touches. It has access to the 60-passenger aerial tram and the spa. The ski area is also very popular with excellent facilities and sensational scenery.
Such a great time skiing here. Didn’t stay at the resort but stayed close by and got lift tickets each day so we made it up to the restaurants on the tram, definitely do that on a clear day we had so much fun. I appreciated the green slopes, they were just the right mix of easy but intimidating. Best skiing I’ve done so far, I hope to be back next year!

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!
Way overpriced!! Not remotely close to a 5 star resort at all!! The location is gorgeous, I hear the spa is fantastic… if you can even get an appointment. The discounts for being an overnight guest aren’t very good, especially considering that non overnight guests get to use the same facilities as guests do.
The lobby is lovely but the rooms are motel 6 quality. Staff isn’t friendly or informative. Zero signage to let you know where things like restaurants, gift stores, parking, or shuttle pickup is located. If you’re handicapped the amount of stairs to get to the pool and other amenities wouldn’t be wheelchair accessible and neither is the pool itself. Parking and hauling your own luggage and ski gear 1/4 of a mile away from the hotel isn’t a great way to start your experience. Valet/ bell hop assistance was non existent.
Go for the day, enjoy the scenery, enjoy the VERY few amenities you can, but stay overnight in Anchorage at a FAR better hotel for WAY less money that has better choices of restaurants and watering holes.
For $500 a night you could have a better hotel, better restaurants and bars, nicer staff, better shopping options and still enjoy the pool, hot tub, spa, gym, arial tram, and skiing at the resort. I’m not terribly surprised, as it’s typical of Canadian owned resorts to be unfriendly and overpriced.

Stayed here for a couple of nights with my daughter. The room was very clean, with a gorgeous view! The beds were great, but I wish I could have cooled the room just a bit. I did, however, very much appreciate the fan provided. Robes in room for pool reservations is a nice touch. Riding the tram to the top was gorgeous and not as scary as I expected. Once at the top, we had a lovely view, but lines were way too long to get a drink or food. We visited the spa for a day, and that was exceptional. The room service was mediocre, ordered spicy chicken but without knowing it was missing all the toppings and tasted like fish, that was a waste. However, Bessy at the front desk made it right and did not make me feel bad for mentioning it. The walk from the resort to the Sitzmark was beautiful and highly recommended if one mile isn't too far for you. Overall, it was a great experience and I will hold these memories for life.

I went here for skiing this past winter, and while I usually only go for a day trip I decided to stay at the resort this time for a week. I must say what a beautiful location and thrill it was to be there. The rooms are definitely not new but worked for me just fine. I recently came back this summer to hike some of the trails near that area for the first time. It's all stunningly beautiful but that parking lot still annoyed me as its badly designed.

Alyeska Resort, is a wonderful place to stay in the summer. I highly recommend the gondola, the views are incredible and at the top, there is great place to have a soda, or drink! If you prefer... you can hike to the top, which I am told is about a two and a half hour climbing trek. Everyone was so nice. I cannot imagine how much fun this ski resort is in the winter!! Great place to stay and scenic location. The drive from Anchorage to the resort is such a pleasant surprise as it is beautiful all around. No northern lights like their website boasts as if the probability is high. Beds are comfortable. Restaurants could use some help though - food is average.

As an AK resident it's still a treat to visit the resort. The staff was extremely kind and accommodating allowing us an early check in/late check out. The beds are comfy and the bathroom/room was extremely clean. The salt water pool is great temp and of they provide plenty of towels and of course comfy robes. We will definitely be back soon!! I do wish they would still offer residential rates for us locals :)

The best pool I've been in. Nice and warm, the salt water is so relaxing. Then to the hot tub for the awesome views of skaters and skiers while soaking in the steamy waters!
The restaurant was very clean and so peaceful for breakfast, sitting there enjoying our coffee and watching the sun come over the mountain. The breakfast was well prepared and we opted for the buffet. We were very happy with the price and quality of the offerings. The resort was warm and welcoming and the staff was so helpful and friendly. Our room was very clean and everything functioned properly. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable and romantic and we would be very happy to return.

The room was nice, service good, however the food for someone who needs gluten-free options SUCKS! To have about 6 items (3 from in room food with a 20% mark up) that I can eat for a high end resort isn't acceptable to me. The salad I ordered with halibut on it was super small my guess maybe 2 at most 3 oz. My son and husband enjoyed the food. The brussle sprout salad was really good. There was no fries or chips and salsa is also disappointing. We did overall enjoy the overall vibe, but didn't like the limited food options.
Food update: this is what I got for my gluten free pizza, it doesn't even have pepperoni on it like the menu says. Hardly any sauce.

We did not stay at the hotel. Day trip to the new Nordic Spa! Absolutely Fabulous! Well layed out and the scenery was great. We had a great time in the hot tubs and saunas. Getting out of the hot water and into the cold water pools was is invigorating! The staff we are friendly and professional. We will definitely be coming back!!

This resort is overpriced for how run-down the rooms are. The wallpaper was peeling from the walls, half the outlets didn't work, and the walls are paper thin. The main parking lot is so small, and the overflow lot is quite the walk to the hotel. The employees are great and friendly. It's convenient if you are spending several days on the mountain, but I will just stay in Anchorage next time.

This is a beautiful lodge in a wonderful location. The rooms are ample, but a bit dated. They are clean and the rooms have tubs/showers. The tram is located at this location. The hotel restaurant very nice but the menu is limited. The bar/grill and snack bar have limited hours. The gift shop is one of the best I've seen. This is a good location for all seasons including winter. The rooms include benches with storage for ski boots just outside the room.

Absolutely disappointed in the quality and presentation of this "resort". The rooms have peeling walls, stained carpets, carpets coming up in places, a horrendous smell to the linens and nicotine stained walls. The television in our room was manufactured in the late 90s and was so grainy you couldn't even watch it. The bathroom walls were beyond disgusting! Every amenity they list was either unavailable or booked solid. We stayed in our room 45 minutes out of a 5 day booked stay! We both decided it was worth the loss to just leave and find something more suited to our stay-cation needs. This is NOT what I would call a "resort". The surrounding beauty of the mountains is amazing but the hotel itself is failing dramatically. I would not stay here again, I would not recommend the "resort" to anyone to be honest. We were so excited to stay there and so disappointed to have to leave within minutes of checking in. Save your money and the disappointment find something better, it's not what you would expect and the images they use to advertise are grossly misleading.

My husband and I flew from Florida to Alaska for this resort for our one year anniversary. Long story short, no employees except Kevin (who was great and talked with us while he brought our luggage up) even cared about telling us about the resort or answering our questions.
The front desk couldn't tell us where to get breakfast or even care to try. We had no idea about anything.
[Cut to] trying to get ski lessons: we walked aimlessly around the mountain and asked about 5 different employees about taking ski lessons (the resort has a school) and again, no one could tell us anything. Was offered a phone number for the mountain manager, Mr Donaldson, left a message, and never heard anything. We had money to spend and it seemed like we couldn't find anyone who wanted our business!
It was so disappointing that we checked out 2 days early and flew back home to Florida.
My husband left his Bose headphones there and I had to make 3 phone calls and speak to the reservation manager before the headphones were "found" by housekeeping and security. I'm not saying anyone was stealing, but I feel like no one tried to find our $300 headphones.
Michael the reservation manager (I think that's his name?) And Kevin at the front deserve shout outs because they truly went above and beyond but seriously STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL AND ITS OLD ROOMS until they can get their staff PROPERLY TRAINED
I waited to post this because I was told I would get a survey from the hotel and I was going to put this info there but I never got it so I thought I'd warn others to be weary of this place...

What a shame. Such a beautiful location and this hotel has seen better days and probably better management. The rooms are outdated as others have pointed out. They don’t have a list of activities on property. You just have to wander around to figure it out. They nickel and dime for everything. $27 a day to valet a car and force people to park in a remote lot and drag luggage uphill through snow and ice? There are no outside food delivery services available so you’re stuck eating their food that is mediocre at best and severely overpriced. $4 for a Pepsi? $8 for a Corona? Disappointing experience. They need to fire their IT people as the Internet was ridiculously slow throughout the property. The staff was frustrated because a simple credit card charge took 2 minutes. The amount of computer keystrokes and processes to perform simple tasks is unbelievable. I feel sorry for the staff because they really try but have inadequate resources to perform their job. This place needs some love.

One of my favorite ski areas in the world. Christmas chute and others are completely unparalleled for x factor accessible right off the top of the lift. It honestly beats Big Sky and Alta in that regard. The downside to this resort is it takes absolutely ages for patrol to open terrain, sometimes never. Other resorts have similar avalanche hazard and open terrain far sooner after a storm. Is it just a lack of patrol? No clue.

I was raised in Alaska and have experienced staying at Alyeska resort plenty of times since childhood. This weekend was my first time (as an adult) paying to stay at the resort I was disappointed at the state of the room. Furniture and interior have been the same since the 90s or even later. The desk chair in our room had so many stains and the sitting chair felt dirty (like it needed to be steam cleaned or thrown away really) The other furniture had so many scratches. The phone looked like it hadn’t been dusted in a while. The wallpaper and lamps are a very unfortunate cream color that has probably been there since the beginning of time. If they allowed smoking in these rooms I’m sure it would look and smell like it was straight from the 70s. The bathroom was clean at least. Staff was nice and for the most part accommodating. Pool was clean and relaxing. I didn’t get much sleep though because I wasn’t able to change the temperature in the room so I was hot and extremely uncomfortable the whole night. It needs some TLC for sure especially for the price you’re paying.

I have stayed at Alyeska a few times now. Always for special occasions.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, but don't stand out much from your standard hotel space. The main "selling point" being the location, and your room might have a good view out the window.
The staff and service is always top notch.
Good opportunity for skiing/snowboarding, local hiking trails, and the Nordic Spa with Hydrotherapy. Food is great, but can be a bit limited depending on your schedule.

Good infrastructure. Great spaces. But this cannot be considered a luxury property. Beat up paint. Waves in the carpet. Lights not working. Mismatched furniture. Just needs a lot of cosmetic work to justify the price. The spa is much newer and nice.

Stunning resort set in beautiful surroundings.
Room was modern, I assume renovated fairly recently. Usual fixtures (coffee machine, fridge, tv, bathrobes etc...)
Hotel had lots of common areas that I imagine during high season can be busy but during our stay (Early Sept) we felt like we had the place to ourselves. There are a range of food options for all budgets, and a couple of shops.
Area is great for leisurely walks, or up the mountain which I didn't dare but saw lots brave it.
We didn't visit the spa, or the pool so cannot speak to those.

I recently visited the hydrotherapy at the spa. It was a beautiful winter escape with the snow-capped trees and saunas. The lockers contain a robe, slippers, and towel with exfoliating scrub. The staff is very professional and was helpful with instructions upon arrival and recommendations for making the most of the day. The locker rooms were clean and well equipped with showers, toilets, a vanity area with provided hair dryers, curling, flat irons, and make remover with cotton pads. There are water bottle filling stations conveniently located throughout, and you should definitely plan to tote one around. Additionally, there is a warm tea and fruit infused cold water station at the entrance to pools. The showers did get a little dirty towards the end of the day, but the provided slippers gave peace of mind. The cafe was perfectly situated for a mid day break and snack to rehydrate and refuel. A good variety of fresh, delicious food and mocktails and cocktails or warm beverages. I would highly recommend the full day package to fully experience the hydrotherapy and have time to revisit your favorites. The crowding was minimal during the daytime and picked up around dinner time, likely due to the discounted twilight option. I would highly recommend the experience and plan to return.

I was fortunate to stay here Monday to Friday and it was incredible. The rooms were beautiful, service was top notch and plenty of amenities but what put it over the top was all those things in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Surrounded completely by the mountains at the lodge, a quick 10 minute ride up the tram has you towering above them. If this place isn't on your bucket list, add it immediately. I was also lucky enough to preview the Black Diamond Lounge on the 8th floor while I was there and it is amazing. Once it opens, getting people to leave and enjoy the rest of the resort might be impossible.

Wonderful stay at Alyeska resort. This mountain is a little low in elevation and as such, the lower third of the mountain often receives rain and the snow is sometimes heavy. The pool area is great. The outer skiing areas are excellent but unfortunately they are often closed. If you're there for a ski trip, I would recommend looking into a heli day to get to some great snow.
Bryce Byers — Google review
We enjoyed our two nights at the Alyeska. We don’t ski but enjoyed the views and property. Booked in the refurbished section and it was very well done so I highly recommend that based on what others say about non-renovated rooms. As noted by others, the inside is a bit tired and in need of some refurb, but with the amount of ski traffic going in and out it actually seems decent. Restaurants seem to have odd hours so we walked over to the Sitzmark both nights. One major flaw that needs to be fixed - that there is only one place to get coffee in the morning is a travesty for a ski resort. Especially when there are no coffee supplies in the rooms. Honestly a free filter coffee station would be amazing with basic creams and sugars. Those that want special coffees can go to the shop, with hopefully added employees other than the one lady powering through all the orders that included food. The wait for some was over 30 minutes. Overall service was very good. Would definitely stay again.

Goldilocks approved. So much right about this resort. The 8th floor has been redone recently and has a great vibe. Comfy bed, great views. Not too posh and not too rustic. Spa is great- and the spa restaurant might be the best place to dine on the property. Skiing was incredible and this is as ski in and ski out as they come. Nice rental shop, free ski concierge.

Alyeska skiing can be hit or miss. It’s great when it’s blower pow or bluebird skiing with ripping groomers. As a lifelong Alaskan who has moved south, I can say it’s a pretty awesome place when the skiing is perfect and it’s pretty miss when it’s not: as in raining top to bottom and closed upper mountain. The views are a five. The mountain amenities are a four. The food and beverage scene can be better. Price points are pretty high. I haven’t stayed at the hotel in a while but, they can afford to do some updating to the rooms that have been the same since I was 13 years old. The Nordic spa is what is really a game changer for the place. Overall; it is a must see/do when visiting Alaska. The North face is some of the most fun and technical skiing you will do in a resort. The people are just as funky as the Sitzmark. It’s definitely got something for everyone. And if you know you know; See Big Wave Dave for A Fizz- only at the tram house.

Staff is fantastic. Polite, friendly and accommodated our requests. The Asian restaurant is amazing! Rooms as read are hot. The hotel is a little dated as well, but we had everything we needed. Thanks for making our stay great.

I've skied Alyeska for 60 years and I've seen many changes, upgrades, problems, etc,,,
It is an absolutely beautiful area with great views.
Renovations are ongoing right now to rooms and a new restaurant. We lucked out and stayed 3 days in a newly updated room. Very nice although a microwave is needed to reheat resort restaurant food.
My wife and I experienced nothing but excellent, friendly, and energetic service from all staff members every day.
I did sense a sort of disconnect between hotel operation staff members as if they were all not exactly on the same page. Experience tells me there IS a management problem. I trust they'll get it figured out.
It is truly a wonderful place with great potential 👍

We used the day pass for the ski resort, and it was great! I have no complaints. Brett, at the rental station, really room absolute care of us. He helped the five of us so much, and is definitely the star of our trip. Thank you so much Brett! Highly recommend!

Leaving 4 stars because I felt like the rooms themselves and dining options left some to be desired for the price of the stay. The rooms and some parts of the lodge felt quite dated and there is a small cafe but other breakfast options were quite pricey.
That being said, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the ski in ski out experience was top notch, and we loved relaxing in the mountain-view hot tub after riding.
The Alyeska Aerial Tram takes visitors to the top of Mount Alyeska for stunning views of glaciers and peaks. It's a five-minute ride up from the town of Girdwood, located about 30 minutes south of Anchorage. Year-round, the tram is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Fast and reliable access to good variety of on and off piste skiing. I was there on a holiday weekend and did not experience any lines or waiting even with COVID restrictions to 50% capacity. Runs every 10 minutes, under 5 minutes to gain over 2000 vertical feet.

The Alyeska Aerial Tram takes you up a small mountain that has hiking and biking trails in the summer and is otherwise a ski resort in the winter. The tram itself is very nice and the trip both up and down were smooth. Realize that it is fairly tight quarters for about 5-10 minutes. Great views from the tram and OK views at the top during summer. We were up on a fairly cloudy day so couldn't see much for part of our visit. With so many amazing places to visit this was good, but not great.

Near perfect experience. If you never rode a tram. This was quick. Everything was easy, and there was no wait. At the top of the Tramway, there is a small deli and bar with surprisingly decent food. I was told we were going to the restaurant, but I was not open. The weather was not bad at all as we were in the skiing offseason, but its Alaska, it was definitely a little chilly. Can't wait to come back!

Very nice tram. Views were great, not a long wait and pleasant ride up. If you are just visiting, there is a little hike up to a better view point, and they do have a souvenir shop up top.

This was cool to be in snow during the summer with beautiful views! Kids had fun exploring of the mountain and building a snowman. There is a restaurant deli at the top and a little museum. The hotel at the bottom has fine dining to pick from I would just check the hours for the day that you’re coming if you wanted to eat there. Once you get to this area there is a local shuttle that works off tips to drive you anywhere and drop you off and pick you back up around the entire town.
Melanie Ezzell — Google review
Beautiful views from the top of the tram, although you do have to pay to ride on it. At the top, there is a bar to get drinks, a cafe which closes at 4:30, a gift shop, and the Seven Glaciers fine dining restaurant, which you need a reservation for. If you don’t want to take the tram, there is a strenuous yet doable hike to the top.

Totally worth the money! We were here on vacation waiting to get on our cruise. The scenery is incredible. Alaska is definitely one of the most beautiful states I've ever been to. I think we paid 50 or $60 per person to get to the top of the mountain. I would absolutely do it again.

This was surprisingly the best stop we made between Anchorage and Seward, and one of our top 3 things we did in Alaska. By reading the website, I thought it was just a tram ride up and down, instead there was tons to do at the top!
Tickets: Tram rides leave very often, so you'll have no problems getting on one throughout the day. There are plenty of tickets available, so you can buy the day of. Lots of military/veteran, student, and senior discounts available.
Tram: It's standing room only, but not a very long ride. Glass views all around and good for pictures.
Tram Alternative: There is a hike that goes from the base to the top. It's dirt and a lot of switch backs, but excellent exercise! Hikers can take the tram down for free, but ticketed passengers get first dibs.
At the Top: Once you get off the tram at the top, there is a hiking trail that will take you further up the mountain for breathtaking views. Well worth the climb! Even in August there was still some snow up there. There is also a restaurant (pick-up & find a seat no servers) and a bar. You can take your brew outside and enjoy the views while sipping on a cold beer or cocktail. There is also a gift shop.
Great for families, friends, couples or solo! All ability levels as well.

A bit pricey but definitely worth it. Spectacular views and you don't have to climb a mountain for it. I also want to note that all the folks running the tram were very nice and very helpful.

A quick 4.5 minute ride from the bottom to the top - elevation of 2000ft gain. Unfortunately, today mother nature took her toll. The fog rolled in and all we saw was the white background. There are restaurants on top, one is a 4 diamond restaurant with reservations required while the other restaurant is more casual. Would be an amazing place to visit and have a lovely dinner with spectacular views on a clear, sunny day.

This was one of the most amazing things we did on our trip to Alaska. We didn't have a true plan for the first few days in the State, but finding this was a gem for sure. Go to the top with the tram and the views are stunning, having lunch at the top was a real treat. Seeing glaciers up close was breathtaking.
Brenda S. Hill — Google review
At first I thought it was a bit expensive, but it’s worth every penny. Clean, safe ride with friendly staff. The mountain top was very cool with wildlife (saw a bear on the way up), wildflowers, and great views. The bathrooms were clean and the beer hit the spot. 20% discount if you are staying at the resort. Pictures taken August 14, 2023.

Amazing views but Expensive ($48pp) ! There are seven glacier views on top which is definitely amazing and a short hike to go to higher elevation to view glaciers but I don’t recommend going all the way to the top. Me & my husband felt there is not much difference in the views even after the hike which is steep & slippery (wear hiking shoes). Alaska has many glaciers, so you can see them even while driving or stopping at overlooks. So take this tram only if you really want to go. Otherwise you can skip it. Same seven glaciers can be seen from the road while driving toward Seward from Girdwood.

I have gone multiple times! In summer and winter for snowboarding! Always a fun ride and breathtaking views. If you have never taken a ride it is worth the trip at least once! Price seems steep but it is Alaska! Alyeska resort! I have not had any of the food or extra stuff. You should just save your money on that part but that is my opinion.

A gorgeous view even on a cloudy day. A two mile hike up to the lookout from the roundhouse and restaurant and a tram ride down. Unless you really feel energetic and want to hike the two mile hike back down. It is a do-able steep. I don't recommend it to someone that's really out of shape. The ride down is free. If you choose to ride the tram up it cost $90. for my wife and I both unless you order the meal vouchers which I did so I paid $120.00 for the both of us to be used at the restaurant up on top. If you want to eat at the fine dining restaurant I recommend getting online and ordering in advance. The closest day available was two days out. Prices were a little spendy as you might imagine. I thought it was worth it.

A 4-5 minutes lift ride up the mountains. The height of the mountains is at 2000 ft and tram is every 15 minutes up.
Cost- it's $48 per adult and $60 / adult which includes food at the restaurant in the top.
Personally I feel it's very expensive just to go on the top..but views are definitely amazing. It completely depend on the weather if it's cloudy or sunny to see the views. You can also hike the top which is steep hike and coming down is free!!!
Deli- we got the $25 coupon for food and had a black bean burger with cocktail on the top.
The Crow Creek Gold Mine is a historic gold-mining camp located in Southcentral Alaska. The site features recreational panning and a summer concert series. Visitors can learn about the area's gold rush history at the mine, and take advantage of the opportunity to find some golden nuggets.
We went to visit Crow Creek Mine and the entire experience was absolutely amazing! The staff is super friendly, informative, and helpful, the landscape is breathtaking, and the experience was all around wonderful. This was a super quaint corner, tucked into the valleys of the mountain. Even the drive there was beautiful. Highly HIGHLY recommend to anybody wanting “the Alaskan gold panning” experience.

Took the kids here to have them learn what panning for gold truly entailed. While we found only specs of gold, it was worth the adventure and gave them a better appreciation of what a hard living gold panning was. No guarentee you will find any gold in the creek.
Friendly dog and cat on premise. Cool little museum town to explore, lots of hiking, camping space (no hook-ups). The drive to/from the mine is interesting. The views are great also.

I would highly recommend getting married or hosting an event at Crow Creek Mine! Will definitely be coming back in the future! Thank you so much for making our day incredible and beautiful! You can really tell how much hard work is put into the grounds! Thank you!

We came here for the kids to pan for gold. The pay dirt had flakes of gold in it do they all got to experience finding gold in their pans.
There are beautiful old mining buildings with plenty of history.
The kids only found one other flake in the river in an hour, but they still had fun.
The gardens are beautiful.
There are campgrounds for small RVs for nightly use without hookup if you would like to stay away from the busy campgrounds.

This location is BEAUTIFUL! My kids had a ball panning for gold, and I had a ball taking pictures around the property. There's a dozen adorable old fashioned houses, complete with antique furniture and furnishings. Flowers are *everywhere* and they were beautiful! The river is picturesque, with lots of adventurous places for kids to dig and try their luck. My son was in heaven! We all had a great time!

Great family outdoor time. Cooper walked to the creek with us and hung out in the cold water the entire 4 hours. Didn't find many flakes, but it was fun and kept us entertained. Hunting for gold was on the top of our AK adventure. Lots of history here.

We booked a night of camping here so that we would be closer to Anchorage to return our RV the following morning. This is a beautiful little place located less than an hour from the city. Exploring the historic buildings and panning for gold were both fun, but probably only occupied us for an hour or two. The campsite we stayed in was generously sized and located right next to a babbling stream. There are no hookups of any kind, but the environment is so much more quiet and relaxing than the large RV parks.
Fun, easy hike! The tram was harder than expected to pull across but everyone helps each other across. The waterfall 0.2 miles past it is awesome too.

Lovely hike to the creek. Hand tram is closed at this time with no reopening date posted. We did the short hike starting from Winner Creek Trailhead so it was a mile each way. Despite the disappointment, we walked down to the creek and found a nice little pebble beach to relax at for a few minutes and enjoyed views of a rushing waterfall.

One of the most unique hikes I have found near the Anchorage area of Alaska. Extremely accessible. The trail to the hand tram is beautiful with cool plank style walkways, captivating mossy terrain, and its maintained well by the chugach state park trail staff. There was guys clearing dead/hazardous trees off the trail as we were hiking it. They were cool enough to give us a little education on the trees of the area as well. The waterfalls on this hike are beautiful as well.
The hand tram is extremely fun and intuitive. Not to mention free. Didnt expect it to be like this but wow does it add another layer to a hike! Theres also a trail sign in sheet just in case you go missing which is interesting and a nice thing to see.
Would highly recommend this trail and the hand tram for a different kind of trail experience.

The Wildlife Refuge Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center offers visitors a chance to see wildlife up close. The center is located close to Anchorage and is known for its encounters with native animals that have been rescued. The refuge also has a zoo, where visitors can see animals from all over the world.
Wasn’t in the plan but stopped in anyway. Was very cool experience. Unlike zoos, you can tell the animals are happy. Very active. You can drive or walk the property. We walked and enjoyed it. Be sure to stop to see the brown bears a few times, they were playful and very active, doing something different each time we went.

Such a great place I went on a van tour. You can drive yourself and even walk through. If you drive through there are plenty of turnouts to pull over into and park so you can walk around to see the animals in that area. The animals look well cared for in the sanctuary. I saw so many beautiful animals it was lightly raining and was in the afternoon so some animals were under the cover of the open sheds. But just to see them at all is so wonderful. The restrooms were clean, the gift shop staff was super helpful. They had food options outside. I wish I had a little longer to look around but being on a tour you have only so long to look around. I will definitely go back on my next trip to Anchorage.

We enjoyed our visit to the farm. You can walk around if you have the time and the weather is nice (probably my preference), but you can drive around to the different pens to view the animals. It was great to see some animals you may not get the chance to see in the wild. The porcupine was super cute. They have a gift store and you can buy coffee and hot chocolates and small food items. It was a lot of fun and great for kids. Highly recommend.

My husband and I visited the conservatory as part of a tour during a visit to Alaska for our honeymoon, and I wish we had more time to spend there. It is such a lovely place. The animals have plenty of room to roam and seem content. We saw a bear trudge over to the pond and lay back, paws in the air, just chillin in the water. Besides the animals, this is a great place to take some landscape photos. It is surrounded by mountains. There are musk ox, bison, wolves, caribou, deer, eagles, bear, and moose. They also have a really nice gift shop. I didn't buy anything, but I wanted to!

We had the opportunity to visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center during our trip to Alaska, and it was truly a remarkable experience.
We have always loved observing wildlife animals as it allows us to witness the beauty of nature firsthand, seeing these living creatures in their natural habitat. Each species possesses its own unique charm and beauty.
When we encounter animals, it made us wonder how nature has crafted such magnificent creatures. At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, we had the chance to see a diverse range of animals that are native to the state of Alaska. The center conducts research and employs sustainable practices to care for these animals, while also providing an opportunity for visitors to appreciate their beauty and learn about coexisting with them, thus aiding in their conservation efforts to prevent extinction.
If you find yourself in Alaska, we highly recommend visiting this place. You'll undoubtedly develop a deep affection for these animals, just as we did.

Can't say enough great things about this place except for WOW. Set amongst the beautiful mountains and valleys, this is a must do experience if you're looking to see wildlife near Anchorage. I took a tour from Anchorage and was amazed from the minute we got here. Seeing these animals enjoy themselves in their natural habitat was so memorable and enjoyable.
If you're interested in going, I do recommend going with a tour group, or making sure that you download maps to be viewed offline as there's little GPS in the area. Personally, I enjoyed not having cellular service during my time here but just a tip to others considering coming here.
Definitely allocate enough time here, while our tour drove through, I would recommend walking to each and spending more time enjoying the beautiful outdoors and beautiful wildlife.

A very good place to watch Alaska wildlife in case you are in hurry or have missed it in the wild. The center is spread out and huge with local Alaksan wildlife kept in big lots. The animals ans birds are looked after really well and and the habitat is done in a way to reflect the wild. Highly recommended.

The open atmosphere provides a pleasant walk amongst the fenced animals. You can also remain in your car and drive around if you desire. You are able to get very close when the animals allow it. The large animals appear to have large spaces to graze.

Must stop for animal lovers! Beautiful drive here from Anchorage, great and helpful staff, cute gift shop, and beautiful scenery while seeing some amazing animals. Very nice conservation center with spacious enclosures for the animals. We truly enjoyed our time there. You have the opportunity to ride or drive to see the animals. We drove through first and then walked. Spent over 3 hours here and could have stayed longer but had to start our drive to Homer. We were there at the right time to hear a concert of howling by the wolves. We loved seeing that all the animals were well cared for. Staff were helpful and informative.

Super cool experience, you have the option to either drive or walk. The moose exhibit was one of my favorites because they love attention and people so they usually come to say hi.
I really expected more from the fox, wolves and bear exhibit however was not able to see them as they were sleeping.
Maybe better to go during summer time so the animals are not hiding trying to stay warm? Not sure.
Very muddy and gross to walk, lots of puddles, we ended up driving.

From the majestic moose to the captivating wolves and awe-inspiring bears, every moment felt like a journey into the heart of Alaska's wilderness. The highlight was definitely spotting a bald eagle resting on a tree above the wolves. The center's dedication to wildlife preservation is commendable, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a truly immersive encounter with Alaska's natural wonders. Five stars without a doubt! There is a good variety of local wildlife represented. You can walk or drive the trail around the area. The summer tourist season will be busier. There is a playground area behind the gift shop. And there are benches and tables at the bear boardwalk. One thing you want to be aware of is the roads will test your vehicle's shocks.
The Byron Glacier Trail is a 1.4-mile pathway that offers stunning vistas of the Byron glacier, with convenient amenities located in the visitor center. The trail is easily accessible and provides visitors with scenic views of the glacier without requiring extensive hiking experience or technical equipment. Additionally, visitors can enjoy facilities such as restrooms and informational displays about local wildlife and geography at the nearby visitor center. Overall, the Byron Glacier Trail is an excellent option for anyone seeking a beautiful and accessible nature experience in Alaska.
The Begich Boggs Visitor Center, which has been open since 1986, provides exhibits on glacial activity and interpretive programs. Additionally, it features a bookshop for visitors to peruse. For those interested in experiencing Portage Glacier firsthand, the center also offers glacier cruises that depart from this location. Girdwood, a charming small town located about 40 minutes south of Anchorage, is nearby and boasts numerous cabin rentals as well as the Alyeska Resort.
This is an informative visitors center near some glaciers. The staff was friendly and told us interesting facts about the glaciers and this area. It had some nice exhibits.
We took the hike to the Byron Glacier, which was fascinating and sad due to the retreating ice. Some kids and even adults climbed on the glacier and made snowballs, throwing them at each other. It's fine to climb on the ice for a better picture or to reach a cave. But tearing off chunks of it for your amusement is disrespectful. It's a testament to global warming, not a play place.

Everyone was so busy walking across the lake to see the glacier, I can’t believe more people weren’t stopping to see the river and how blue the water is just to the left of the visitor center. Careful walking across the lake. We went April 3 and got half way across and some people coming back said the ground was getting soft and they turned around. It was 3pm so early morning start May be better to get to the glacier.

To entrr the movir and exhivit areas you have to pay $5 or have a NPS pass (America the Beautiful Annual, a Senior Lifetime or Military NPS pass) Movie, while very good, had trouble starting (staff had to reset)and due to the curtains behind the film not being closed properly all the way we suffered thru a foot wide white line of daylight thru the entire movie so the quality was not as great. Did not realize what it was till too late to tell staff. One area of artifacts roped off. Salmon running film was timestamped 2014. Surely a newer one could have been done since then? I read in some guide that there was to be a recreated ice cave at the center - we saw no evidence of that. It IS a great center to bring children. Many of their interactive exhibits are geared towards children, school-aged. For all the build up this center gets, we were disappointed. Also, we had to request that toilet paper be filled as multiple stalls were out at the same time, which told me no one checked supplies that morning. Overall, it was not a great visit- we had expected more.

The visitor center was closed. However the area is accessible and is very cool.
Portage Glacier is a popular tourist destination in Alaska, accessible by boat tours from a visitor center across the lake. The glacier stands tall at 10 stories and can be easily accessed. Additionally, visitors can also visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to witness several species of native Alaskan animals in their natural environments.
Amazing way to kick off a multi-week Alaska vacation!!
Not too far from Anchorage. Stopped at the AWCC on the way.
It was chilly but sunny!

If you are staying in Anchorage and you have half a day available But you want visit a good place and enjoy a boat ride and see Glacier?
You can accomplish all of that at Portage Glacier.
Nice peacefull sail. Just sit back and enjoy.
Even in July you will need some heavy clothing.
Nice place to visit and beauty all around the highway as well.
If you are lucky (like we were), you may see black bear along with the glacier.
Good luck!!

We were lucky enough to visit it on a cloudy day. I think that was the best condition to capture the glacier's bluish color. We booked this tour in Anchorage and it included the Alaska wildlife conservation center and Alyeska resort. Both places are worth it, but the glacier is the gem. The whole day's experience was unforgettable. When the boat was not far from the glacier the huge chunk of ice calved into the water with a loud splash. That was a sad reminder of the glacier's progressing recession.

Winter Hike March 2023
Went out on the lake to go see the face of Portage ! Took us about 2.5 hrs for roundtrip. It looks short but it's definitely a long walk. It is extremely windy. Cover any skin and wear sunglasses. Highly recommend, your efforts will be rewarded !

This was a moderately difficult hike- The first part having a steep incline. The trail takes you to a black sand beach with gorgeous views of the glacier and surrounding mountains. We are in our early 30s and are fit. I would advise caution for the elder.

Came here with some friends on June 7th. Overall it's a BEAUTIFUL hike, with a lot of variety. Probably my favorite hike I trekked in Alaska.
I actually hiked this TWICE in one day cuz I left my wallet (long story) near the glacier the first time and had to go back to find it.
The hike starts kind of steep with a rocky bit, but takes you to the first mini summit which looks back over the parking lot/lake area. That itself is a super cool view (which we experienced coming back) but going up there was a crazy thick fog which gave everything a Lord of the Rings Shire/Hobbit feel. Super cool.
The weather changed a bunch over the course of the day, a lot of the high bits being covered in clouds.... Despite that, and the light rain we got, there were still good views of the lake and glacier as we came in (both higher, overlooking the main lake, and at the lakes edge). The clouds cleared as the day went on, but rolled back again quick, so just keep the weather volitility in mind as that plays a factor in how enjoyable the views might be.
Maybe 15% of the overall trail was snowy bits. As some others said here, bring some gold water proof hiking boots and an extra pair of socks for when you get back as your boots will see a lot of moisture. The snow was not very difficult to traverse (a few uphill moments in the snow made it more strenuous, but it was still upper moderate difficulty).
There is a smaller mini lake half way thru the path (some waterfalls in the distant feeds the river run offs, which is really beautiful!), and 2 large geese/swan birds were floating elegantly there. Pretty much the most prime real estate a bird could ever get. :p Just a gorgeous place....
Once you get to the bottom, you have a nice view of Portage Glacier, but there is still a lake separating you from it. Most people spend time on the beach there then return.
I wanted to touch the glacier, which required another 45 minute hike around the edge of the lake, including wading a rather large river feeding the lake (the water went up to my waste! - and I'm 6'2") and crossing a few other smaller feeding creeks. - the first time I went I just crossed wearing jeans and my boots, which got soaked, and it was freezing! (yeah... Duh. I know. :p) The current was preeety strong too and the friend I waded across with lost his balance coming back and went all in right at the end. - the 2nd time back I wore some waders and crossing was much easier & drier. (still took a bit of patience as the river is strong and wide where I crossed). BIGGEST CONCERN FOR FUTURE HIKERS: as snow melts more, sometimes your foot can break thru some of the snow, especially near the melted edges thst tend to melt in a hollowed out form... We had a few mini break throughs that went ankle deep and got our boots wet a little. Nothing major, but something to be aware about.
As the weather cleared, new incredible views of the surrounding mountains & waterfalls appeared, making this a top notch, diverse hike. :)
Be careful of deveating off the trail.... We "explored" a few tangent trails, which were fun, but got confused a little at one point trying to get back to the main trail. Pretty much, be careful to stick to the main trail, and you shouldn't have a problem.

Beautiful place to go. My family comes here to hike often. We have gotten to see broken off pieces of the glacier in the lake but can't wait to come back during summer to see the glacier by tour. Very convenient to have campgrounds ands so many trails in the area and some great fishing spots all close.

One of the best places in Chugach Mountain area to explore. It’s not that far from anchorage, about an hour drive to the cruise site.
There are several options for cruise but We took the one hour cruise tour and it was worth the price.
The lake is frozen during winter and even in summer time it’s cold! Beware of frostbite and take precautions with all the necessary stuff like gloves, beanie and a good jacket and boots.
Also make sure to carry item like a raincoat or umbrella cause it literally rains most of the time.

Hurry up and see it before global warming makes it extinct. Took a boat tour. It’s was so cool! And it’s melting. Held a piece in my hand. Bring your bug spray!

June 2018 Easy hike in a nearby trail for glacier view as well as affordable 1hr cruise. Nice view at ground level or above. It’s a good stop along the way.
