Fort Yargo State Park
State park
Nature & Parks
Historic fort in a state park with campsites, yurts, trails & a beach on a 260-acre lake.
Very nice park. There is a parking fee if you don't have a GA State Park pass. There are several different areas to get away from noise and enjoy nature. Park is kept very clean and maintained. Over 12 miles of trails for walking, trail running or mountain biking. Nice lake. There is also a beach area and pavilions you can rent.
Jamal Josephs — Google review
Wonderful natural State Park. We volunteered during the "State Park day" and did cleaning for a playground area. This park is very picturesque and features a beach. Like all state parks there's a $5 parking fee and it's well worth it. The visitor Center looks brand new in modern featuring a gift shop. The best thing about this park is the people including park ranger Aiden. He planned our event successfully and was very helpful in coordinating the resources. There is everything you would want featured at this park.

I have camped here by myself, with my wife and with two dogs as many as 30 times over the last 30 years. We have always enjoyed our stay here. We have camped in both campgrounds and in the primitive camping areas as well. We have seen many improvements over those years.
The primitive area has moved and been replaced with yurts. The rest rooms have been rebuilt. The lake has been improved and new fishing docks have been added.
The hosts have always been friendly and helpful when needed. And of course there is now the new welcome center. Shopping and restaurants are nearby when needed.
Our favorite campsite is number 32 due to its privacy but has a longer walk to the bathrooms.
We have fished there, rented a Jon boat and ridden on the lake in a folding boat with motor.
There are always events scheduled throughout the year and a lot of history surrounding the fort.
I recommend this state park and suggest getting a friends of the park pass as it is a great value especially if you are a senior or active military or veteran.
Mike McFarland — Google review
Nice, well kept park with a lot of facilities—playgrounds, beaches, multiple restrooms, bike repair station. Parking is $5. The loop trail around the park is 7 miles. Long but fairly easy as it’s mostly flat. The trail could be marked better, though. Also, it would be nice to have another small bridge somewhere in the middle of the lake to shorten the hike in case someone gets too tired.
Alexandra D?k?ny — Google review
Very nice, clean park! The beach, the yurts, the cabins all looked really nice. The park office is nice. Every bridge we crossed on foot seemed to be brand new or just super well maintained. We played disc golf and would go back and do it again. It was a fun wooded course. A lot of ups, downs and curves to throw around. A little thorny if you get off the course. Overall, we will definitely go back.

Got a good 3 miles in today. This state park is comparable to Deviles lake in Wisconsin. Crazy busy and a lot to offer. I'm really starting to like Georgia each day. This is a park we would love to come back too and camp.
Paige Mutchler — Google review
Such a beautiful park! Plenty of trails to hike and jog. Tons of accessible shoreline for fishing and paddling (kayak, canoe, SUP, etc). The beach is a fun spot to hang out and grill with family and friends and just launch your exploration of the park! Very well kept and maintained! Totally will be going back!!
Jarod Stevenson — Google review
A very nice state park. Probably the best that the wife and I have been to over the last 6 weeks. We have decided to go to one state park a week until we visit all of the state parks in Georgia.
This park has it all. A beach RV camping, primitive camping cabins to rent and it even has a yurt if you want to rent a yurt as well. Several pavilions dozens of picnic tables and a large concession area with a very large covered pavilion next to the concession area. This park looks like it has a lot of visitors in the summertime.
There are canoes available as well as paddle boats. The swimming activities are no lifeguard at this time and the boats that can be used are closed for the season. There are also plenty of trails and such for those that like to do that. This is a dog friendly park. The visitor center is very nice in the staff are very pleasant to work with.

Nice park located in Winder, Georgia. The weather was great. Love the lake, yurts, campsites, paved walking paths and plenty of running, walking, biking trails. There’s a beach, too. Nice place for a day trip or a weekend getaway and lots of friendly folks…🏊🏽♀️🛶🚴🏾♀️🎣🚣♀️🏃🏾♀️🏖⛺️🛥🌞
Debbie Anderson — Google review
Cabins clean and cozy next to the lake. Treetop broke off across the trail/road and they had it cleared within two hours of notification. Never did figure out when the boat rentals were open. Clean, cozy, well kept up park.

Our first visit to this state park - we’ll definitely be back! The main access building is lovely with clean restrooms, info about all the activities, and even affordable snacks. We enjoyed the mountain biking (only 4 rental bikes available right now, so get there early or bring your own). Helmets are included. Be sure to bring your ID for any rentals. The mini golf course was better than expected - creative hope architecture and only $5/player. The colonial building was also a fun attraction to see. Unfortunately, the water activities (paddle boarding, kayak rental) wasn’t available the day we went, but we didn’t know because there wasn’t a sign on the door. For the future, I’d recommend a sign be posted if an activity is not available. Overall, 5/5 and we’ll recommend this location to friends! Affordable, family fun in North GA.

Book a yurt for a night to see how things would be, wow very serene and pleasant. Just make sure you bring your own bedding. The futon mattresses may not accommodate how comfortable you want to be.
Rashan&Toya Travel — Google review
I personally love Fort Yargo. It is one of the best places to take your kids or family. We just spent three days there camping and it wasn’t bad. People were nice. It was really quiet. Fishing is good for the younger kids. Plenty of bluegill and sunfish for them to catch. It’s a little harder unless you have a boat and you can fish the less fish areas for adults, I love Fort Yargo, though one of my favorite places to go escape from reality for a little while. The swimming area is also super fun for your kids and family as well. Pretty well-kept up the people in charge of it could be a little nicer sometimes, but they just try to do their jobs overall love fort yargo highly recommend for families.

Buetiful park w great views. Nice pathways with paved trails and dirt trails around the lake. We came up to spend a family day hiking and film a marketing video about website design for my company, Zanardo Dezignz.
Excellent mountain bike trails. There's even a super cool tool station for your bike near the visitors center.
We are coming back to visit the beach during the summer to swim and go kayaking and canoeing.
Zanardo Dezignz, LLC — Google review
This was my first visit and hike at Fort Yargo State Park. I completed a 6 mile hike and it was absolutely beautiful. There were no issues with parking in the area was very clean. I hope to visit
again when the weather is a tad bit warmer.☺️
T L Boose — Google review
Really nice state park. Campsites are close to the lake. The bath house was clean. Visitor's center is nice. We didn't like sharing the hiking trail with cyclists as they sometimes didn't alert us they were coming. I think it's dangerous.
Cora May — Google review
Its great park!! We stayed in yurts. It was
Amazing. Never knew there was a place 30min from my house such a peaceful and nice to hangout with friends
Onur kahraman — Google review
We went to the primitive area tent camping just to do a trial run. It was close to my house and I have never been there before last week. It was an memorable experience for sure. The bathrooms was the cleanest I have ever seen at a state park. The campground host were some of the best I have ever met. I will surely be back. I would highly recommend this park to anyone.

Visiting my daughter & her family all the way from Arizona.... And this gem is 10 mins from her house. Literally it is half woods and half lake. Such beautiful scenery while you play in the lake. It was a bit busy, cuz it was Labor Day, but we had a fantastic day!!! Everyone was so very nice and respectful to each other!! I highly recommend this spot to have a family day!!
Na'Ma S. — Google review
What a gem. We were running late because of unusual traffic. Called Ranger on call met us at the gate escorted us to our level easy back in spot. On our list of campsites to revisit
Bear Hollow Wildlife Trail is a 225-acre park featuring woodlands, wetlands, and a historic cabin. The visitors' center offers interactive exhibits for the public to enjoy. Currently undergoing renovations, the park has new fences that look much better than the old ones. However, some of the gates were locked which caused concern among visitors. The animal sanctuaries are in poor condition and resemble Yellow River Game Ranch during its decline.
It's more like a wildlife preserve than a zoo, but it is still really nice! It's well kept. They seem to be doing some renovations, but that's always a good sign. The animals were mostly napping when we went, but the few that weren't were amazing to see and observe. They also give facts about the species, and they tell you exactly what you're looking at. The bald eagle was my absolute favorite. They even had turkeys, which was nice to see just to see not for sport. My daughter liked it too. She's loves animals. Best part is it is free!
Corey Guthrie — Google review
This zoo is great. It is small as some reviewers say but they should keep in mind it is a free zoo for rehabbed animals. We saw owls, bears, turkeys, river otters, a bald eagle, a gator and more. My 7 year old didn’t want to leave. We all had a great time and will be back.
Judy Woodcock — Google review
Small rehab zoo with free entry. Otters, beavers, small reptiles, deer, an alligator, owls, a skunk, a fox, bears, turkeys, and a bald eagle. Some lovely relatively new murals now too. The nearby Birchmore Trail and Memorial Park with playground, small lake, and dog park are worth checking out.
Christine Bernal — Google review
Love this place. Quaint and quiet. A great place for a quicker outdoor activity. Don't expect to spend your whole day here, the whole zoo can be experienced in full in about 30 to 45 minutes. Head over to the pond from the same parking lot and see more wildlife than the zoo has to offer. Turtles, frogs, geese, ducks, squirrels, snakes, fish, and plenty more are all available for your viewing pleasure! Picnic tables are available for lunch :)
Melanie Komasinski — Google review
Great place to have a birthday party. There was a place to grill. You do have to reserve the pavilion. Summer rates cost more than winter rates. Each pavilion has about 4 picnic tables. You can also walk around the pond.
Renee Gardner — Google review
It's a little bit more rundown than it was when we visited in 2019. They are in the middle of some renovations that look very nice. The new fences look much better than the old ones. I don't know why some of the gates were locked. It was a little troubling. The biggest detractor right now is the condition of the animal sanctuaries. Kind of reminds me how yellow River game ranch was in their decline. Have to keep in mind that this is a free to the public zoo. If you go to their website there are options to help to support them if we don't want to see something like this disappear.
Broocks Regan — Google review
We love coming here and seeing the bears, alligator, otters, and other animals. The zoo has just reopened after being shut down from covid 19 for a few months. They have re-routed part of the path so it is one way to cut down on guests getting close to each other. It is a nice little free zoo!
Karen Phillips — Google review
Always a delight to visit. Clean areas and healthy looking animals. The park has also taken extra precautions to keep people and animals safe during the pandemic. In general the park is always well cared for. The animals are beautiful and amazing to see. It's a great place to visit.
ジェナGenna — Google review
Great free morning activity for my small children! The animals were all out and very active. The trails are clean and easy to navigate with a stroller. We finished the zoo trail an about an hour.
Kristin Watson — Google review
Have loved this place for years. Shady, quiet, and free zoo. Next to a lovely lake and community athletic facility. Pool open seasonally.Dont miss the lively antics of the river otters-sure to make you smile!
Nancy Callahan — Google review
Took a field trip here. Was a simple zoo
The kids loved it and they have a Pavilion where we ate lunch and played on the playground afterwards.
The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a vast 313-acre horticultural conservatory that offers free admission to visitors. The garden boasts picturesque walking paths and provides educational programs for both adults and children. While some negative reviews exist, the gardens are well-prepared during winter and offer an excellent opportunity for photography. There's ample parking available, although it might get crowded on weekends. Visitors can donate if they wish to support the establishment, with a small donation box located near the entrance.
What an amazing place. All of the volunteers were so knowledgeable and so friendly. Even just the visitors were kind. The gift shop was fabulous and I picked up a few things for friends and family. I didn't get a chance to see the Holiday lights at night. But it was even more beautiful in the day. Everything is labeled so perfectly when you walk through. That only do you learn but you get a little bit of a hands-on experience with everything. Words cannot express what a fabulous time I had. Thank you guys so much for all of your hospitality and I can't wait to come back and visit again.
Emily Banks — Google review
The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a true gem hidden in the heart of Athens. As soon as I entered the garden, I was immediately struck by the stunning beauty of the natural surroundings. The garden is home to a vast array of plant species, each more vibrant and colorful than the last.
The pathways are well-maintained and easy to navigate, making it easy to explore the garden at your own pace. There are plenty of benches and picnic areas scattered throughout the garden, making it easy to take a break and soak in the beauty of your surroundings.
One of the highlights of my visit was the Conservatory, which is home to a wide variety of tropical plants and flowers. The air inside the Conservatory was thick with the scent of exotic blooms, transporting me to a far-off place.
The staff at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and they were happy to answer any questions I had about the plants and flowers. It was clear that they take great pride in the garden and its upkeep.
Overall, my experience at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia was nothing short of magical. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for a serene and peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. 🌼 🌸 🌻 🌹 🏵

I had a great time exploring this botanical garden. I started out exploring the arts museum, which has some unbelievable pieces in it. Then I headed towards the trails and walked some of the white trail along the garden. Finally, when I thought I was just about done, I saw the international garden. It's amazing taking the stroll around that area, which leads to the front of the garden and plenty more to see once you're there.
Anthony Harris — Google review
I’ve been visiting the Botanical Garden for over a decade which is crazy to say! It is one of my favorite places in Athens. There is a giant magical playground that’s worth enjoying for all ages. I highly recommend walking around the Asian garden and meditating on their wooden meditation area. It’s so nice. A stunning venue for wedding photos, family photos, etc.
Salem — Google review
I’m not sure what all the negative reviews are about. This establishment is FREE and beautiful yet people still complain. Anyway, my kiddo and I had a great time today. The gardens are being prepped and it’s still winter so obviously not much was happening there but I cannot wait to come back when everything is in bloom 🌻🌸🌺 Parking was plenty, I’m sure the weekends might be a bit crazy. Although it’s free and free parking, donation is welcome and there’s a small box for it near the entrance. Great place for photos! The kids playground was awesome as well. The bathrooms were clean. Next time we’ll bring a picnic! There is a cafe but we didn’t go inside at all.
Thai Kajangu — Google review
This botanical garden is probably my favorite place in Georgia. There is always something new to see as far as plant life, and wildlife such as owls, deer, and small woodland creatures. The children's garden is wonderful and full of activities. There are trails that run through the woods around the gardens. There is ample parking accessible by stairs and/or an elevator, a huge greenhouse building, a gift shop and cafe which are located in the greenhouse, a porcelain museum, several public bathrooms, and numerous gardens. All of it is free! You can easily spend a whole day here. Pack a lunch and take your time! Go in each season if you can to see the different plant varieties. They also have events throughout the year which are ticketed.
Leah Chapple — Google review
Love, love, love these gardens! I have been twice in the last month, bringing family then friends from Atlanta. Worth the drive and a great place to spend the day.
From the ceramics museum to the many gardens to the hiking trails, it makes for a wonderful day outdoors.
Entry is free but bring cash for the donation box in the visitor's center!
Star Mac — Google review
Absolutely beautiful! From all the flowers and tropical plants to the butterflies everywhere you look! The wildlife and shaded paths to more beauty! This is a must visit place if you are in Athens, Georgia! The indoor facility is cool and naturally oxygenated by all the vegetation. There is a vegetable garden. Children will love the playground and climbing ropes! You could easily spend the day just enjoying nature here! There is also an art museum and chapel.
Anthony Davis — Google review
Another excuse to be outside. Find a free spot designed with natural beauty. It is serene. It feels comforting to walk softly, just to hear all the birds chirping or frogs grunting. The fun is in looking at the different vegetation and reading what the plants are actually called. If you go at dusk, you will get a beautiful illumination of the sky with a nice range in color!
Brandon Coleman — Google review
Great place to take a walk. Free too! Well kept gardens. Also a new beautiful ceramics museum. Ample parking. If you come prepared with proper footwear there are miles of hiking trails all around the gardens.
George William — Google review
Athens Botanical gardens is a lovely place to visit to enjoy a nice stroll through the garden. The inside area has more flowers and a gift shop. When you drive in there is plenty of parking.
Note: I did remove one star for the number of stairs and hills at this garden. Compared to the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Gainesville location, this location is has more hills and stairs.
The children's garden is very cute. They even had a playground!
Ashley N — Google review
This place was amazing. Despite the crazy heat, the beauty of nature had me happy to keep exploring. Not to mention it was super quiet and peaceful!
There was plenty parking and the staff there were more than friendly. I'd definitely come back.
Sandy Elise — Google review
A beautiful display in a gorgeous setting! Our family highly recommends you visit the Botanical Gardens light display. Reserve your tickets ahead.
Jeff Jones — Google review
Even in the winter, the botanical garden was pretty and especially peaceful. Although much was dead that would have been great to see in the spring, summer, or fall, there were many beautiful trees and flowers inside of the greenhouse space (which was somehow not humid, a definite plus) that were just gorgeous. Trying to find winter-blooming plants among the dead was also fun, and the living foliage we found was still breathtaking.
Avery Anderson — Google review
Outstanding night with the family! Beautiful leisurely walk on a perfect night for late December. UGA team that put this event together did a great job. Excellent flow for both kids and adults. Concessions and restrooms throughout. It was a magical night for everyone. Thanks to everyone associated with the event.

It is a beautiful place to go for a walk. This is March mid week, and I was able to see tulips and daffodils. No fee, it's free
vaxni pro — Google review
Amazing time! The staff was super friendly and helpful. Also, at every turn, there was a member of the staff which I loved, and I assumed the staff's presence was for the visitors' safety and assistance. It was just an overall beautiful place and experience

I came here to check out the Porcelain museum and the Gardens, and I couldn't see it all in one day. They had everything set up for Winter Wonderlights (buy tickets for this in advance), and I wish they weren't sold out when I visited, but you can still see the light sculptures and all the holiday lights on the trees. Even during the afternoon it was lovely. A lot had died back for the season in mid-December, but this place was impressive nonetheless. I need to come back to see the rose garden in bloom, too.
x Morrow — Google review
We purchased tickets in advance for the 9pm time. Definitely worth buying the vip parking so you don’t have to ride the shuttle bus.
It was a great experience, beautiful lights, music, staff were awesome and friendly! It took us about 55 minutes to walk through. There were hot cocoa and s’mores stations set up if you wanted to purchase them. I couldn’t get over the amount of lights! We will definitely make this a yearly tradition!!
Diana Foster — Google review
We went for the Winter Wonderlights. The lights were bright and festive. However, the prices were a bit high for the hot chocolate, smores kits, and swag. The workers were all friendly and helpful. One of the volunteers even took our picture with our phone at one of the locations under the lights.
Sanford Stadium, the 92,000-seat football stadium located at the University of Georgia and home to their Bulldogs team, is a popular venue for sports enthusiasts. The stadium is well-maintained with clean facilities and restrooms that have attendants on hand. Visitors are advised to rent a stadium chair as the bleacher seating can be cramped during peak attendance times. Only card payments are accepted for purchases made throughout the premises. Exiting from the top parking deck may cause delays due to heavy traffic.
Is there a better college football stadium in the world? We don't think so and I have albums of amazing memories here. It's an absolute must attend once in your lifetime... countless for me and I'm so grateful. I love the people, the game and the great town of Athens. Formerly known as Susie Bulldog back in the Brumby beach days ;)))

As a Auburn fan, I went this year to the 2022 Auburn v. GA game. The atmosphere is as great and the game was awesome. My team did not win but other than that it was a great time.
Michael Bass — Google review
I love Georgia stadium. However, this particular day, the GDay game was very crowded. One section of the stadium is being remodeled. People were everywhere. Hurry up and get it done. Prices were great, and there were a lot of food items Papa John's and Chick-fil-A.

Amazing experience! We went to the GA v KY game on October 7, 2023 at 7pm. We had a great time! It was a packed house and got a little chilly later in the night, but a great time was had! This was the first night game I’ve been to, and the 4th quarter light show was AWESOME! A must see!!!

2021 National Champion 🏆"Go Dawgs"
Meridy Duncan — Google review
It was a great experience. I would say this stadium is not handicap friendly, I seen alot of people struggling in the crowd that needed less stairs that day.
Half the stadium was closed due to the fireworks for graduation but I felt they could have done better.
Jim Garrigan — Google review
We loved watching the Dawgs spring game in Athens, Georgia! Can't wait to go back for the regular season games. GO DAWGS ❤🖤❤🖤
Mary Elizabeth — Google review
Fun times! Go Dawgs!
No lines for the woman's bathroom the whole hand!

UGA games are a great time! The stadium is clean, easy to access, and provides transportation to and from the parking garages. Great food but does not serve alcoholic beverages. You must tailgate for that experience. Have fun! Go Dogs!
John Alejandro — Google review
We caught the Shuttle from the East Campus Deck to the stadium and that worked out well. Catching a shuttle back was a zoo, so we opted to walk. Stadium was very clean, as well as the ladies restroom (attendant on hand). I would suggest renting a stadium chair if there is not already one at your seat. The bleacher seating is very, very tight if it is a full house. We only bought drinks, so I cannot comment on the food. Card only- no cash. Oh, and if you are the top of the parking deck, you may have a long wait to get out. Also, many of the roads are closed when the game is over, so we actually had to go a long ways out of the way to get back on the correct route home.
Melissa Boyd — Google review
Beautiful stadium on a beautiful campus. Staff was helpful, plenty of police around, and everything was clean. It was a pleasant experience. The sound system sounds great, and everything seems to be well taken care of. Really a top notch facility, rivaling some NFL stadiums.
Joshua Gomez — Google review
This was an incredible event. This was my first time at Sanford Stadium. I had the privilege of seeing my granddaughter graduate from UGA with a double major. The stadium was half full. Many proud family members to see their loved ones become part of the “Bulldog Nation”! I hope some day to see the Dawgs play there.

Working as security is something I love. I haven't really had to deal with disrespectful attitudes yet but waiting for the SEC games.

When I am here, it feels different. Athens, Georgia is one of the most perfect places on Earth to me. Any chance I get to watch the Dawgs, I am going to. The fans are the best in the world and the staff at the stadium is awesome.

I love visiting college football stadiums. They are unique in the way that lighthouses are all different but serve the same purpose.
James Klapcuniak — Google review
Horrible... we were afraid for our lives. Crowd was jam packed in the concessions area, couldn't get to our seats at the beginning of the game, nobody there to control the flow of traffic, literally everyone was stuck in place just yelling at each other. Asked police for help, but they just got angry and wanted to watch the game. UGA won, yay... but this was the worst GameDay experience I've ever had
Grant Fox — Google review
The crowds may be big but it is to be expected. Love going and enjoying the atmosphere

The atmosphere for a night game here with around 93k people is electrifying. One of the best things to experience in UGA.

19th-century Greek Revival mansion & history museum, featuring guided tours & a gift shop.
Beautiful building and during the Christmas time it was well decorated…
Do not miss this place while you are visiting Milledgeville.
It is one of the finest example of high Greek revival architecture in the Georgia. The Mansion is fully ADA complaint.

One of the best tours I’ve been on! Worth a visit. They spent over $5 million to renovate in 2005. Beautiful.

Very interesting. Guide was very well versed on the history and gave a very detailed account in each room.
We went on a slow part of day so tour wasn't crowded at all.
Would recommend for anyone interested in Georgia history.

This historic house is very beautiful inside and out. The tour was very well narrated by Cooper. It was informative and he was rather knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour with my wife. We encourage all history lovers to come out and tour this historic home.

This is a great museum experience. Our docent, Ashley, was an excellent guide. The furniture is 25% original, and the mansion is laid out nearly the same as when it was occupied by Governor Cobb, thanks to detailed records by his wife. The air conditioner works quite well, making this an excellent place to escape the heat when visiting in summer. Senior, military, child, and student pricing available. Free admission for Georgia College students and staff.

Refined rooms in an elegant hotel featuring a steakhouse, a spa & indoor & outdoor pools.
Amazing, amazing, amazing. Not only is this Ritz gorgeous, but the service is outstanding. Every member of the staff that we interacted with was extremely friendly and helpful. There was never any annoyance or dismissive responses to a plethora of questions and requests. The grounds are exceptional and perfect for a relaxing getaway. The spa is luxurious and the providers really know what they’re doing. Highly recommend the lake view fireside rooms. Great food also - we never left the resort because they had everything we needed. While everything about the resort itself is fantastic, the staff is what makes this the perfect spot.

My wife and our dog and I just spent 3 nights at this property and had an absolutely wonderful time. The area is so scenic and beautiful. The grounds are perfectly manicured. The service is impeccable. Dogs are very welcomed on property which we loved. During our stay, we enjoyed the walking trails, kayaked on the lake, enjoyed their “fireside flavors” experience (fire pit with food and wine lakeside at night), received massages at their spa, shot sporting clays, tried each restaurant on site, and had a complimentary photo shoot on the property. Everything was excellent. Special shout-out to Simeon; he is the photographer and a real joy to work with and extraordinarily talented. Also special shout-out to Tyesha; she works at the front desk and worked so hard to ensure a seamless and magical experience during our stay. I really appreciate all of her efforts. She is just so accommodating and friendly and really contributed to a phenomenal overall experience with our visit. We will be back!

Beautiful room, spa, gym, and trails around the resort. The staff were friendly and helpful. I really want to rate 5 stars because the resort was so incredible, however there was just minor frustration not being able to snag a tennis court to work with a pro or clinic, even calling a few weeks in advance. I will definitely be back with my kids, and will just need to call way way in advance to reserve a court for playing time.

I had the opportunity to visit this property for a wedding and it did not disappoint. Top notch all the way around. Immaculate grounds , tons of things to do like boat rides, swim, kayak , golf , run, bike to name a few. I definitely want to go back in the future.

We visited in early March, so understandably the weather was mediocre at best.
The food could not have been better. Not cheap, but we knew what we signed up for. Service the whole time was top-notch. Fantastic 2-night experience. We never left the resort.
The only complaint was that the guest internet would intermittently drop and reconnect. Annoying for streaming on personal devices.

Absolutely incredible resort and grounds. I’ve been 4 times and it somehow continues to get better each time. In the summer it is more family oriented, but on off seasons it’s very couple/solo traveler friendly. The food is always amazing, particularly at the Linger Longer Steakhouse. Tons of trails and things to do outdoors. The pools are incredible, and the spa is great as well. Rooms have been recently renovated and are very beautiful and the beds are little clouds of amazing. My only gripe is that they have an incredible indoor lap pool that’s right next to the 24 hour fitness center, but the indoor pool closes ridiculously early (6p) and there doesn’t seem to be any sensible reason why it would close when the fitness center - literally one door down - is open 24 hours and the outdoor pool is 24 hours. Seems entirely pointless and prevents use of one of the nicest amenities. Would love to see that changed. But overall, definitely a 5 star place to stay and spend time.

OUTSTANDING! Just celebrated my birthday for the second time at the Ritz Carlton Lake Oconee. After booking my reservation with Jay I literally felt like I was going to see family! After arrival, we were surrounded with excellent customer service. From special treatment by Chef Michael, to Kiersten taking extra time to share recommendations, to Alexis going out of her way to follow up to make sure my Fireside Flavor date went well, to Tino helping us have a great time Kayaking... They deserve 5 diamond status. Also, we loved the wonderful new room design - chic yet comfortable. The grounds and Spa were top notch not to mention the views here feel like a slice of heaven. This team is excellence in motion. I'll be back to celebrate something else soon.

This was our second time staying at this property. We met family for Thanksgiving and had a great time! Hotel was decorated beautifully for the holidays and the staff was exceptional. Special shout out to Jason, our bartender at Linger Longer Steakhouse! Very much appreciated the special delivery of "spiked" eggnog that was delivered to our room on our Anniversary. Very thoughtful gesture...thank you Jason!

The Ritz Carlton Reynolds Lake Oconee is a beautiful and luxurious resort. The beds are extremely comfortable and the drinks are creative and pretty. The pool deck is relaxing and the infinity pool is stunning.
However, there were some minor issues with getting sundries delivered to the room and not being allowed an extension on the checkout time as a Gold Elite member. Although most of the food was great, it was a little pricey, and the impossible burger was a little too salty for my taste and the sauce they put on the truffle fries is too sweet and feels out of place.
Overall, I had an amazing experience and would highly recommend the resort. Carlos, Franny, and Travis at Gaby’s were all very attentive, so friendly, and didn’t make me feel judged for dining alone. I felt welcome and I appreciate it.

The rooms at the resort are overpriced based on what you receive. Everything cost extra. The only thing that did not cost money was the water. No complementary extras based on how much you paid for the room. They only have Valet parking. When you arrive they take your key and your car and you have to buy your car back. The resort workers were friendly, but expected a tip for any service provided. Had to wait an extra hour for our room upon arrival. I would not recommend staying here.

Exceptionally clean, beautiful manicured property and considered the creme de la creme luxury resort. Top of the line decor, superior cuisine selection, outstanding concierge service, a literal secret Oasis. The best place for a wedding, anniversary or fabulous couples getaway

We came for Thanksgiving from
FL and we were very impressed. We have a 2.5 year old and stayed in the fireside lake view which was gorgeous! The food was excellent, (I’m pregnant and they were very accommodating) the property is very kid friendly, and service was exceptional! Everyone acknowledged us and was friendly, the amount of kids activities was impressive and we will definitely be coming back again! :) Kelsey Zamoyski Kessler

We did not stay at the hotel, but did spend an afternoon at Gabby's. We sat at the bar and Natasha was our bartender. She was superb! Made some fantastic drinks for us and was so personable and professional. Absolute delight! The setting is beautiful, right on the lakefront with amazing views. Laid back vibe. We had an appetizer that was wonderful. It was a gloomy day, but the view and to woodburning fireplace made for an excellent afternoon. Highly recommend!

This is our third time visiting the resort. We love the grounds, the property itself, etc. our boys enjoy the game room and all of the outdoor activities. ( shout out to the young guys helping hook worms for fishing… they were amazing and went above and beyond for our sons).
My main reason for giving the review four stars is the decline in service. We were last here November 2021. Service was impeccable. This time was a different story. Our first night we went to Linger Longer and the wait for our food was AWFUL. Just to have a waitress come take our order was painfully long. When the food finally did come out it was OK, definitely not great. We experienced a similar situation at Gaby’s two nights later. The food was delicious however, just long waits especially with small kids it becomes challenging.
Would love to see more gluten free options on the club level (was much more accommodating when I was here in November). The staff on the club level was superb. Thank you!
Overall great resort. Lots for kids to do and adults as well. Clean. Well maintained. Service at the pools/lake is stellar. Just need to work out some issues with the restaurants and service provided at each.

We attended a wedding and reception at the Ritz-Carlton on Lake Oconee. From the second we arrived, the staff service was excellent. Valet parking, golf cart transportation to the pavilion for my father in law and wife, wait staff at dinner, etc. Every human contact was excellent. The grounds and facilities were impeccable. The food was excellent as well. We didn't lodge there, but I would presume the excellence extends through every element there.

We thought the room was comfortable and while we were there the staff was very friendly. There are other issues that really need to be addressed. The bar in the lobby area was out of several wines by the glass and they were low or out of certain food items. We went to Gabby's and could not even get a drink at the bar. We were able to get a table after about 40 minutes. We visited the week of The Masters so it seems they would be more prepared. After leaving I then received a revised bill with unknown charges listed. The charges were off property at Reynolds and Great Waters, we did not visit either places. On top of that, one of the charges occurred a week prior to our arrival. I should not have to email 5 different times to get these charges reversed. For the price of the stay it is not worth the price. We will not be back.

I went to the Ritz Carlton for a conference. The place is beautiful. Most of the staff was nice except one of the baggage boys and one blond headed lady when we checked in. When I got my receipt I was charged for things I never bought. There was a $108 charge for their restaurant Gabby's. Gabby's is not that good to speak d $108. Then I was charged a resort fee and 6.48 for something else. Mind you, I only used that card for the $200 incidental fees. I used it no where else! The nice guy at the front by the name of Imet was kind enough to reverse the resort fee and he was told they would refund me the$108 for the Gabby's that I did not buy. I had to call finance 3 times before someone called me back. She said the charges should drop off in a couple of days since it was still in pending. It did not. I called and left another message and I still have not received a call back. I am going to dispute it through my credit card. This dampened my overall good experience because who likes their money being stolen? And the finance department gets an F. So beware of your money if you go there.

We absolutely love this place and they consistently get a 5 star review in every category!! We’re looking forward to this year’s visit 🤗

We have been coming here for the last eight years and it is a great resort property that is always improving. Almost every year this property renovates an area of the hotel. Bring your family her to make memories. The room rates have doubled since we first started staying here, but don't let that detract you from staying. It is the ultimate Georgia getaway.

Think Ritz goes to summer camp. Lovely, exemplary of what a luxury getaway should be. Grounds are beautiful, plenty to see and do for all ages. World-class golf surrounds the property. Unfortunately, the spa was being renovated, but we'll be back next year to check it out. Oh, and dogs are welcome, pooches everywhere!

Beautiful park! My son and I visited Watson Mill Bridge State Park in December 2023. We walked a few trails, which took a few hours. It was about a 30-minute drive from Athens.
They have a Visitors Center where you can pick up a map of the park and hiking trails. It also has a cute gift shop. Parking is $5.00 for the day. They do offer yearly parking passes as well.
I recommend Watson Mill State Park for something fun and interesting to do on a budget. I can't wait to visit Watson Mill Bridge Park this summer!

Great park. Scenic with a lot of trails. The old ruins are neat as well. Worth the visit, worth the drive. A word of caution though, the trails are heavy with roots and rocks at times which present a trip hazard or opportunity for possible injury. Which should go without saying being it's in the woods. What would you expect? Definitely placing this one on the regular visit rotation.

This state park exceeded my expectations, very beautiful, lots of fun trails and things to explore. My family and I had an excellent day getting rejuvenated in the purity of nature. This covered bridge is something I fell in love with as a kid and recently got to share it with my girlfriend from out of state.

I can't believe I waited so long to go there. This park is amazing - the staff, the campground, the scenery, the bridge, the trails - amazing! The tent/RV campground is small, but quiet, shaded, and well maintained. The outer spots on the loop are the best, but they all have some advantages. If you have a horse, part of this park is dedicated to equestrian activities with stables, trails and an equestrian campground. I really love all of the Georgia State parks I have visited, but this one is definitely in my top 5!

Everything about Watson Mill Covered Bridge State Park is AWESOME!! Kids love it too.

Lovely 1000+ acre State Park near Comer, Ga. The covered bridge and falls are a must see, so plan to spend a day enjoying the falls, water and park area. The campground has mostly pull through heavily shaded sites with two bathhouses. The bathhouses are showing their age and subject to out of order. Frankly, the circa 1885 bridge is in better shape than the campground. The hosts are lovely and eager to help. While the camp hosts are doing their best, the state needs to focus attention on roads and campsites. They are tired and need attention.
Big rigs and even a 28’ trailer will slip into a rut in the turns in the campground. Be careful. The 50amp power is clean and consistent. The water ran clear with good pressure.
The single dump station located in the center of the park is a lesson in patience and maneuvering skill.
During our stay we had a tornado watch and the camp host went from site to site alerting each on what to do and where to go. That’s next level attention.
Verizon service was better than ATT.
Pay attention to how you enter the park as the covered bridge has a 9’ height limit. Enter the park from the west off of Georgia Highway 22. If you come from the East, off Georgia Highway 72 you’ll have to cross the bridge be subjected to the bridge limit.
The town of Comer is 4 miles away if you need to stock up on groceries, fuel or enjoy a small but lovely Mexican restaurant or diner.
Lovely park and with some attention from the Parks Department, it could be a crown jewel.
I regret the 4 stars but it’s just not 5 star right now.
Still recommended.

Great place. Very clean grounds. A must see when in the area. Camping, canoeing and hiking. They have a playground for the kids. Restrooms, picnic tables, grills etc. Welcome center has drinks and nabs. And a cool little exhibit of local wildlife. Seen people walking dogs on leash. Probably fishing as well. 5 dollar parking pass required. Wouldn't recommend for large group of bikers. Small parking areas.

Lovely, quiet and beautiful state park with nearly 100% pull through, roomy camp sites. Nice walking and mountain biking trails. Campground shower house was clean...they just need a little maintenance. Ladies side had one inoperative shower and mens side had one inoperative toilet and hand blow dryer. Otherwise, very relaxing time!
This was an awesome day trip. The plantation is beautifully reserved and Suzanne, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable in answering all of our questions. You can tell that a lot of love has been put into restoring these homes to their original era in time. The brick house was definitely a grand mansion in its day. I loved hearing all of the stories that Suzanne shared with us. She is truly a gem.
Looking forward to going back in October for Mule Day!!
When you're finished touring the plantation, be sure to go to The Pig & Bull Grill and get the Killa!! Tell Eric & DJ that I sent you lol
Both of these places were an amazing find and looking forward to going back soon!!

Unfortunately the times were not updated on the website and we drove an hour on Wednesday to find a closed site. The two persons working there said it would be ok to walk around. There is a variety of buildings and a beautiful herb garden around the main plantation house. You can view the great wood joinery on the log home. Nice placards describing the buildings. Facility hosts many activities throughout the year. Parking seems to be abundant... especially when it’s closed.

My 22-year-old son and myself went to hickory knob State Park for a couple of days just to see the sites because I'm doing the ultimate outsider adventure. So we went there so that I could get my stamp. Our accommodations or so nice! We stayed in the lodge and the view was beautiful there was a small forest area and then a lake that we overlooked from our balcony. The beds were comfortable the room that we had also had a kitchen area and a little living room area. We loved it! The people were super nice. We walked on two out of three of the trails and enjoyed that experience. My only complaint is that everything else was closed. The restaurant was closed. The snack bar in the golf shop was closed. They said it was opened but when we went there the lady told me that all she had to serve me was too hot dogs and a grilled cheese sandwich if I wanted that. Also we asked if we could rent a golf cart just to ride around the green on the designated trails and we were told no. If you are not golfing you cannot rent a golf cart that was very unfortunate as the golf course was beautiful and we would have liked to have ridden around it. My son would have liked to have done the archery but you have to give them 24 hours notice so that they can have someone available to go out on the field with you and when you're only there for two days it's hard to give 24 hours notice so that was disappointing. All in all even with the disappointments I would go back to hickory knob maybe not in the fall and the winner because it is closed up and unless you want to walk the trails which we did and loved. I forgot to mention the deer. There were deer everywhere and they were not afraid of people. You could be rather close and watch them. There are a few pictures of the deer. That was exciting.

Went here for a retreat and the scenery never disappoints! Went out on the kayak early early and it was just so peaceful. The tranquility was out of this world! BUT… I wish I could say the same about the room. The tub kept clogging and filling up. While showering all that dirty water was at ankle level. The AC unit was set to the lowest setting with the highest speed and i ended up just cracking the door open throughout the night because it never got cool. The room smelled a bit moldy and there were long hairs on the bathroom floor. Not really the cleanliness. But still had a great time.

We loved our stay at Hickory Knob!! I'm a professor at a college, and we stayed here during the school's spring break (early March). We stayed in one of the cabins. It had a small kitchen for making your own meals, which we really appreciated having.
Kayaking was amazing! We had never been before. We were kind of expecting a ranger to be available to show us what to do, but it was a "figure it out" kind of experience. It wasn't bad, that just caught us off guard. But kayaking wasn't hard to figure out.
The golf course was great! Very clean and clear with fun and challenging courses. A very nice lady working at the golf center gave us a deal on a 9-hole for two. She also gave us a lot of information on what to do in town.
If you come, walk/hike the Lakeview loop trail. It's a beautiful ~7 mile trail with gorgeous views of the Savannah river. It's not a difficult walk; it's just a longer trail. Bring some water and a snack 😉
The only part of our stay that I didn't like was the washer and dryer on site. There's one on site for guests to use. After using them, our laundry had a funky smell. Don't know if all the river water didnt't clear out and I should have washed it a second time before drying, but it just smelled weird. Other than that, we loved our stay.
Some of the other reviews made me laugh; like "it was muddy" or others like it. You know you're at a state park, right?! When it rains, it gets muddy 😆😆😆 Anyways, we loved it here. This is the perfect place to disconnect from the world and reconnect with your loved ones and nature ♥️

Beautiful views! We hooked up our RV to 30A source and we’re able to start the AC compressor. Sites are somewhat level. We stayed on the main road and not the waters edge sites because the size and level of the sites were more for our needs. Clean facilities. Access to the lake with canoe at the turn around. Would definitely come back. Golfing was inexpensive and lots of other activities available. Would be a great place for family reunion or group get together.

Stayed for the weekend at the blue lodges on the property. It looked like the rooms were recently renovated to a more modern feel. It was very comfortable. The room had a bit of a chemical smell which I was led to believe was from the cleaning products. We helped reduce this by lighting a candle. The Internet is rather slow here and it looks like that's how the TV service is provided. We ran into some technical troubles with the TV but that wasn't a big concern given that we weren't there to stay and watch TV. Beautiful park and friendly staff. Plenty of amenities. Pool, playground, Cornhole, community grill, putting green, and more.
My wife and I also explored the Lakeview loop on our bikes. There were 4 trees down. Needs some maintenance.
You're welcome future hikers.. I cleared all the spider webs with my face and body. 🤣😦

We recently moved into SLV McCormick SC. As a Google guide I try to visit all establishments nearby and give an honest assessment of the business. After touring Baker Park just 4 miles away my expectations were low. Our friends are living in a camper while their house is being built. This place is a class act. Even better than Elijah State Park just over the bridge. There are activities going on almost everyday but what really stopped us in our tracks was the cleanliness of the facilities and the professionalism of the Staff. A+++

Our first time visiting, GPS took us to a big BARN, keep driving past the golf course, then we found the main check in. Our room overlooking the lake was older, but nice. Clean. TV, microwave and small refrigerator.

Such a nice outing! It’s truly a state park. The beach trail was nice for a beginner. I was definitely sore the next day for someone who doesn’t hike often. I wouldn’t do it in the summer but in the cold weather was perfect. I can’t wait to come back in the spring. It was very very quiet and the trails were clearly marked. I will definitely be back!

We enjoyed camping out on the lake. Having electricity tent camping in March made for an all around enjoyable weekend. Clean restrooms. Nice water views from nearly every site. Con, not a lot of privacy. We had a nice blend of RV and tent campers at the park during our stay so that helped with night privacy. Overall, would definitely recommend and I won’t say I would return- I’m already planning to return lol I will be returning.

Beautiful, pristine and wooded campground on the shore of Clark's Hill Lake. We tent camped in the walk-in/tent only area, which was very private and most sites are on the water. Had our own private beach, and spent most of our time floating and swimming in the clear waters. Sunset was amazing, and the stars were shimmering. For just $18 we were very pleased with our stay and look forward to returning since it's only a few hours but worlds away from Savannah.

Was a great weekend at campsite 81! My husband, our dog and I hiked the campground trail loop and connected to the beach trail and back one day and the next day we did Rock Dam trail ( almost 7 mile trail) and we got to see the back country campsites and they looked great. When we come back we'd definitely go for Campsite C in the backcountry bc you could hike the 4 miles in but you could also kayak in! Great staff and clean facilities at the regular campsites. All other dogs and people were friendly. Can't wait to return!

Absolutely gorgeous park. Great for fishing, hiking, boating or just relaxing in nature. We saw tons of birds, lots of squirrels, 4-5 different groups of deer and even some cool lizards. So incredibly quiet and peaceful. The water was like glass. We stayed in the cottages and they were spotlessly clean. 2 bathrooms and a fire place. Large open livingroom/dinning area. Kitchen was well equipped. There was also a charcoal grill and fire pit outside with picnic table. Short walk to the water to cast your pole or just take in the beauty of your surroundings. Loved visiting this park! Very peaceful in the winter, not a lot of people. Great hiking trails and the lake is very pretty! Definitely recommend coming here for a family day trip.

Had a great time camping here. There are lots of campsites, practically all of them with a great view of the lake. Playgrounds are available for kids, and the campground is dog-friendly, with free baggies readily available. The bathrooms were EXCEPTIONALLY clean.

The park is beautiful, secluded, offers shade from trees, with many lakes. Weekends are busier than weekdays, but yet, space between camp sites is wide. Many options for hikers to choose from, pet friendly. Facilities are clean, staff is helpful.

Great trails for beginners to to semi-challenging. Great variety of trees, mosses, fungi, birds and other wildlife.
Of course, there is the lake, plenty of picnic areas, a little gift shop that sells drinks and snacks, public restrooms, etc.
Great for a day trip or even weekend camping!

Beautiful scenery, large spectacular sites, so much waterfront, all sites with incredible views either on the water or overlooking it, numerous hiking trails. Loved this park!
Great place to learn the beginnings of the comedy duo, and specifically Ollie. Great staff, rotating archives, and a small theater playing shorts and a history of Oliver Hardy. Only 5 miles off the interstate and a great stop for anyone that enjoys Laurel & Hardy!

Very nice place and interesting to see that there was a famous person from this little town. I love to explore small towns since moving to Georgia, lots of history. The lady in the from was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the theater. If you're ever in Harlem stop by the museum then drive to Wrens Georgia and eat at Peggy's. It will be a nice little day of exploring.

Love little museum for both Laurel and Hardy and the town of Harlem. I enjoyed the stories listed and the historical items from both sides.

The lady docent with the pleasent" German " accent was very informative and a pleasure to talk to, the museum, though small, had many interesting items and much info on Laural and Hardy and the history of the city of Harlem, Georgia

Cozy museum that is well worth the visit. The Laurel and Hardy Museum shares it's home with a celebration of Harlem, Georgia's local history. You'll find your standard old photos and newspaper clippings (which is nice), but there are a few head-turning items of weirdness that'll grab your attention as well.

We loved this little museum! Martin was super friendly and had great information! They have information about their town Harlem as well as Laurel & Hardy (who was born there). A short movie and photo ops too! Glad we decided to stop. Everyone we met were super friendly and helpful. Big celebration in Oct.

Excellent facility. Much larger and nicer than I expected since they moved locations. Staff was excellent , knowledgeable and friendly. More treasured relics and information on Laurel & Hardy than you can imagine. Comfy little theater playing classics of the iconic team. Also an area dedicated the history of Harlem, Georgia as well. Highly recommended.

This is a small museum half dedicated to the history of Harlem and half dedicated to Oliver Hardy. It’s not hard to find and the manager there was very friendly and helpful. I found out quite a bit about Oliver Hardy that I didn’t know. After driving by the sign on the highway many times, we stopped. It was worth the stop. As a bonus there are a few small shops near the museum to browse in. The city hosts an Oliver Hardy Festival every year, 34 years now, that I hope to attend.

A fun stop!! What a delightful place preserving the memory of these two important funny men!! The lady working up front was so nice. My mother and I had a wonderful time looking at the collection of memorabilia. There is a theatre in the back playing the old shows. If you take the time to look in the cases there is really quite a lot of interesting things to see.

I love the nostalgia and the Laurel and Hardy information. My great uncle was the property master for the show, and I grew up with stories and memorabilia, so I love that my kids got a chance to experience it on the big screen and laugh!

This is a fun spot with community information as well as lots of Laurel & Hardy memorabilia. Plan an hour total to also view the movies in the theater.
Museum, theater, and boat tour for a very reasonable price. Fascinating history. Loved it. Great for children and adults.

We thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd annual Canal Discovery day on April 15th 2023. The Canal Discovery Center has a detailed walkable museum that is interactive for all ages. They also offer boat rides with a guide that tells the history of the canal, its workers, the history of the buildings along the canal and the story of the people who hand dug the canal.
Id highly recommend a visit to this wonderful local museum for the whole family.

On Saturday 5/21/22, we arrived at the Canal Discovery Center at around 9:45am for their 10am canal boat tour. We were a little dismayed that the tour boat might be at capacity. We hung around to wait and see about a large group that was running a little late. The Discovery Center staff was great and they worked it out that we were able to go on the tour also. The boat guide and captain were great. We really enjoyed the hour long canal tour. We had no idea that the canal was so vital to Augusta's history. It was very informative. We also enjoyed the museum where we learned so much more about the area history. If you're in the area and looking for something to do, I highly recommend this.

We had so much fun! The museum was hands-on enough to entertain our three-year-old, and the employees were so kind to him as well. And while he was entertained, I enjoyed learning a ton about the canal, which I didn't even know existed prior to visiting. Highly recommend.

The Augusta Museum of History is a museum dedicated to showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Augusta from its early Native American settlement to its present-day celebrities. The museum provides detailed information about important historical events such as the tobacco and cotton trade, Spanish-French-British colonies, and the evolution of the rail system. The exhibits are well laid out and provide insight into both positive and negative aspects of Augusta's history.
I visited on a free admission day with my kids. We enjoyed the visit. It took 1 hour to visit every room.

This last visit wasn’t to go through the museum. We went for Lego house display.
They have gingerbread houses in the fall and they did the Lego. I don’t know if they always do it. This is the first I knew of it. It was very cool.
On the regular mail all through it is amazing as well. There is so much to see with lots of information and history given. Even a theater with history documentary playing at times. Several train cars. An actual river boat. It has two levels. There is also a big James Brown section. He was from the area.
We used to go at least once a year but haven’t been back for a while except to see the houses. Which was free.

Wow! What a treasure in downtown Augusta. Easy parking, fair fees to get in, and hours of information with an available audio tour. Everything is clean and very well maintained. Very nice display if you are new, passing through, or even a long time resident of the Augusta area.

Truly an amazing display of objects associated with the history and growth of Augusta...the James Brown exhibit was truly a well put together tribute to an amazing performer who not only shared his talents with the world but kept his life roots strong within his own community of Augusta. I would recommend this to families trying to express the importance of equality and what we can accomplish as individuals
I was a bit disappointed they didn't have much tourist merchandise such as t shirts or postcards...they only had buttons and magnets

Good information, very well laid / displayed. Guided tour guide for the railway provided good details on the evolution of the rail. Tobacco & Cotton trade, Spanish-French-& British colonies, so many celebrities from Augusta...took about 2 hrs and ticket $5. Unfortunately, there's no cafe or any food service onsite.

The Augusta Museum of History basically has it all. Whether you're looking for the world's most comprehensive James Brown exhibit, a fascinating journey through the history of golf, some jaw-dropping car and train history, and/or an extensive collection of artifacts that tell a more complete story of the State of Georgia, you have to come here and see it for yourself. Even if you don't think you're a "big museum person", you'll find plenty of cool stuff for everyone to enjoy.

What an amazing little gem in Augusta. Been here for over 25 yrs and never knew this was here. I was just looking for something my 90 yr old Dad would be interested in. We both really enjoyed it. And it’s deceivingly very big! We didn’t get a chance to go to the 2nd floor, but the first floor was truly amazing and well done !

DEFINITELY add the marina to your itinerary when you visit Augusta. The riverwalk is great, you can rent kayaks, and the river is so soothing to just sit and watch. They also have a pedestrian bridge opening soon that you can walk across the Savannah River on and enjoy food vendors, etc. I’ll definitely visit it when it opens to the public.

Such a variety of trails. Pet friendly, well kept, and clean. Being from out of town, had a little trouble finding an entrance. Thought there would be a large entrance with a parking lot. If there was we couldn't find it.

A fantastic swath of nature. First time visitor to the city and the woods. Dog friendly as long as he/she is on a leash. Well maintained trails, although it is easy to get lost. Would recommend using an app with trail maps if you’re actively trying to find some of the “points of interest.” Seems like for some of the points of interest, you do need to go off trail which I wish there was a little more detail about on the website and/or maps.
We had a beautiful little picnic in a little grove of trees and it was so peaceful and secluded. Saw several horse riders during our few hours on the trail, all very friendly.
I do not that I would not recommend trying to run on these trails as they are made of sand (unless you want sand training.) There were also *many* portions with lots of poison ivy along the trail edge, so be warned. If you’re going off trail, definitely wear long pants.
We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be returning when in town again.

Great urban woodland, for hiking, horseback riding, and family outings. Enough space to get lost. Watch out for quicksand. Legit it's in there. Rumored to house a werewolf named Russell. 🤔 so maybe pack some silver bullets with your water bottles and snack.

What an asset for Aiken. Massive and not busy, with tons of trails. Spent 2 hours walking and didn't even cover half of it.
Picturesque 14-acre garden with old oak trees & cedars, a koi pond, fountains & holiday lights.
We love coming here to see the fish, have a picnic and just walk around. The trees always offer ample shade during a hot day. The history of this always blows my mind - it’s wonderful. I come here all the time and have since I moved here in 2009. Lovely place to put a blanket down and read

The park doesn’t have the same care put into it as it did a few years ago but it’s still a nice hallmark to have here in Aiken. It’s gorgeous in the fall and even though the Christmas lights were lacking this year compared to other years, it’s free and beautiful to walk through. There’s a small variety of wildlife that make it worth the trip. It’s very pet friendly and has numerous public restrooms available on site.

Potted trees not watered. Sad to see dying Japanese maples outside the buildings in pots sitting in full sun where they don’t survive well and not at all without water. Quite a slick of sludge on Koi pond water. Not sure if that’s harmful to the fish or not but we could just barely make out one fish. Love the variety of old trees !

Beautiful place to walk around and enjoy. Lots of great photo ops. Wasn't too crowded. Unfortunately the water with the koi fish was really murky and we could barely see the fish. Other than that, highly recommend!

A nice place tucked away in Aiken, SC. I unfortunately came at the end of the season. I can imagine how vibrant this place must be in Spring. Even though, I saw some lovely flowers as well as water. This is a nice spot for photography and a calm date. It is also nice to take a healthy walk. There is something relaxing about being in nature. Go out and smell the green Earth!

This is a great park to walk around and visit for free. It's a gem in the city. They have the major trees labeled and you can learn about them by calling a local 803 number. There are fountains, trees, and plenty of benches to sit and relax near the theater.
There is also a barn with large models of locally known horses to read about.
There are also large fish in the pond that are a bit shy and on a sunny day there are always big painter turtles sunning.
Go and visit with friends and family, take some pictures. They recently went through some spring cleaning and the place looks fantastic.

Old live Oaks are spectacular. Enjoyed stables and horse memorabilia/museum. Great informative staff.

Such a great state park. Definitely one of the best in the state. The best time to go is in the fall when the Autumn breeze is out and the trees are a beautiful color. It's only $3 per adult to get in, but just get a state park pass and go all the time. They have these adorable cabins that you can rent and they have tent areas if you wanna rough it. It's an awesome place and people should utilize it.

Many of the camp spots are about to be unavailable for renovations, they are much needed. The spots are small and close to each other, but really a nice place to stay. Views at sunset/sunrise are great. Light pollution at night, though if that's important to you. This was our second trip and won't be our last.
Steven Miceli — Google review
This was my first time tent camping as an adult. It was comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and accessible. I can't say more good things. One tiny issue...I wish people were not allowed to play their tvs or be outside talking loudly after 11 and before 7am. It was a vacation for us, whereas I get others probably live here. It just would have been nice to get a good night sleep if not for that. Our entire stay was fun and relaxing.
Alison Clemency — Google review
The only thing that I didn't like (which was my own fault) is that we got a R.V. camping site. Which meant a mid-size hill to walk up and down because we tent camped. The bathroom could use a path to it as well, but we're camping so can't really complain about that much. Other than that the scenery was beautiful, fishing was great and company was wonderful. It was quiet and just what the doctor ordered!

We stayed in Camper Cabin # 10 and it was the perfect location. Great view of the lake and easy access to the lake for fishing or swimming. It was convenient to the bathhouse. The cabin was the perfect size for our family of four. Our boys loved the bunk beds. The cabin had a mini fridge and microwave and a nice covered porch. It was a very nice park with nice hiking trails.

Stayed in the Islander RV campground. We love the park. Only downside is it is very difficult to park a boat trailer with a tow vehicle at most spots. There is limited overflow parking and some people leave boats tied up on shore. The park is well maintained, super friendly staff, clean and well kept. Spots are mostly full on weekends.

We just picked this place randomly and it was worth the drive. There were plenty of places to cookout. And each spot had a nice little cove to swim. This State Park has nice camp areas too. Will definitely have to come back for more than just the day!

3rd time staying here and it's always so nice. It's Hard to get a lake front site but if you can It's worth it! We prefer the Anglers camp as it seems to be quieter and sites are larger. Also all the sites there have full hookups

The cabin was great except for the fact that the minifridge didn't work and the blinds were tore up, giving us no privacy. The service was wonderful because they did send someone to immediately replace the fridge, I guess they didn't have extra blinds laying around, so they didn't replace them. We just ended up hanging a towel from the window inside to cover the huge hole in the blinds. The location was wonderful and relaxing, not too many loud guests around. We were close to the bathroom, which was nice, and had a little private fishing hole (except for a few boats that came in here and there). We stayed with family in cabins 2 and 3.

Very nice and clean State Park. The campsites were well kept up and the views were amazing. The roads in the camping areas were very narrow, but not unmanageable. I would definitely Camp here again and recommend this park to anyone. My only negative was that the weekends are loud. Music playing until midnight and the sound of voices carried throughout the park.

My wife and I LOVED this state park. We've traveled all over the United States in an RV and this is one of the best state parks we have stayed at. We were in site 60 which was right on the water and we had a blast. There was a nice hiking trail nearby in the park and we had a blast swimming with our yellow lab, Luna in the water. It was early may and the water wasn't too cold. The view was pretty, the campsite was quiet, and everyone seemed friendly. There was plenty of stuff within 20 or 30 minutes, like a grocery store, liquor store, beer taproom, and restaurants. We would definitely go back here especially with our stand up paddle board because the lake is huge, nice and beautiful. Would 100% definitely recommend.

I stayed on the group primitive site with GWHSC. We stayed for two nights. It was a great location and spot. The bathrooms were still within walking distance. Everyone was nice. We were able to get floats and kayaks out on the water at our site too.
Everyone in the tackle shop was nice and they have everything you'll forget to bring on your camping trip! Also, great selection of souvenirs and stickers! I collect stickers and silicone cups from all the SPs.

Our site (81) was very challenging to level our small camper. The electric hookup was very close to road and the pavement was bulged in areas. Many other campers did not follow leash guidelines and we were charged by several different dogs while walking our own. Also, some campers were extremely inconsiderate with loud music and bright lights on throughout the night. There seemed to be very little security presence and our neighbors had someone cut off their water and power during the night. Beautiful views and friendly park ranger (Sam). We enjoyed our stay but felt that there was room for improvement.

Dreher Island is a beautiful calm peaceful campground. It is our favorite for our family to gather and enjoy fun times. We are senior citizens so we aren't using it for our party house.
At other state parks we have encountered over zealous rangers who are borderline harassers!! Dreher Island We have not had that problem! Their rules are doable and most people abide.
I would suggest that showers in bath houses have lockable doors! There is a strong safety hazard with only a shower curtain hanging not only for ladies but men. I personally encountered a young man who had had too much to drink coming to the ladies bathroom! I was just stepping out of the shower had already put my night clothes on and open the curtain and there he stood! A Very confused alcoholic! I instructed him firmly to leave and go to the other side of the building!! He left with no incident.

This is one of the best state parks in South Carolina. My wife and I have camped here in our travel trailer as well as in the camper cabins, and it's quiet and beautiful.
The camper sites are paved and level, which is surprisingly rare. Very easy to set up the camper and not have to fool with leveling blocks. I'm surprised they only have 30 amp service (at least at my site), but 30 is good enough for me.
The camper cabins are awesome for those without a camper who want to get into this lifestyle but don't want to tent it. Cozy and everything you need, these are great.

Campground is excellent and same for boat ramps. Bathrooms very clean, BUT the first shower never got hot water (Angler's point). Crazy. Finally moved to the larger end one and OK. Faucets were goofy. Sorry, I should have reported it.

Recommended only for camping, fishing or boating. It's a beautiful location, don't get me wrong, but there's not many trails and, with the above exceptions, not much to do.
We had a relaxing time.

The location was great, the staff was fantastic...the cabins were lovely until we discovered bed bugs. They were kind enough to move the party to a other cabin but it was massively disturbing to watch them rent the same bed bug infested cabin to another party within 24 hours of us reporting the issue without really a clean out mattress swap out etc. They handled our situation with grace and class but overall it seems like a massive public health concern to continue to allow people into that unit knowing the issue at hand

This is a fantastic park and now one of my favorites. RV spots are mostly waterfront, level and well appointed. It's geared towards fishing sports but the lake views are gorgeous.
Riverbanks Zoo & Garden is a family-friendly zoo with African and Australian animals, reptile galleries, a bird house, a farm, and botanical gardens. The zoo features a splash pad with rubber surfaces that has been upgraded in the summer. There are also playhouses, treehouses, a large field with toys and games, a waterfall and 2 splash pads.
Riverbanks zoo reminds of Animal Kingdom set in good old Disney World without the financial hard ship going there. Riverbanks is simply an amazing zoo. I would recommend setting aside 3-4 hours to see everything, this of course is set with a two old in mind. We stopped and saw just about everything and even petted some very friendly goats. Some stuff does cost extra, $20 on the zoo card will be more than enough for two children. The giraffe feeding stops at 1:30pm so if that is on your agenda I would get in line early. We went on a Sunday and the crowds were not too bad. We will definitely become frequent visitors. 10/10 I highly recommend.
Tai Sanders — Google review
Riverbanks Zoo & Garden is fabulous! We absolutely love it here and have been visiting regularly for 10+ years. The animal variety is second to none. The layout of the zoo flows very nice to ensure you can enjoy each stop to see all that it offers during your visits. The staff do a great job of keeping the zoo very clean and safe. They are very, attentive, and provide excellent service every time we are there. The expansions keep coming and continue improving and evolving this Zoo into one of the best visits you and your family can make.
If I was going to provide a critique, I would recommend more fans through out the park. South Carolina (especially in the midlands) can get very hot and humid during the summer months and that heat can make visiting the park a less than pleasant experience if you are not use to the heat down here (heck even if you are 😂). More fans through out the park would add to the already amazing atmosphere and help create some more much needed cool zones through out.
One last add. Please visit during the Halloween and Christmas events. They are fantastic and highly recommended. For adults the Brew at the Zoo is one of the best attractions around. Enjoy!
Jacob Gillen — Google review
This was an amazing experience! The $5 parking is worth it if you are wanting to go to the botanical gardens/splash pad first or last on your visit. The prices were fair for adults at $26 for how big of a zoo it is! There were some of every animal including giraffes you can feed, a kangaroo exhibit you can walk through, and sea lions you can stand next to. Animals included monkeys, gorillas, lions, tigers, snakes, birds of all kinds, goats, alpacas, bears, otters, tortoises, penguins, tropical fish, jellyfish, sea turtles, koalas, sloths, and so much more. I even tried out the ropes course within the zoo (requires shoes w/ heel strap) which was priced at $7 for non-members. It was a good ropes course for the price! I do recommend having a parent or older sibling go up with a younger child if they're new to ropes courses. The height can be a fear factor and the way the harness is attached to the top of the course can make it harder for smaller kids to reach in order to move around the course. As an adult, it's a fun add-on especially if you're looking for some more thrill with your zoo experience. The botanical gardens were gorgeous! They were located right next to the $5 parking and the tram. Overall, I really enjoyed visiting the Riverbanks Zoo and all of the staff here were polite and happy.

Wild Nights was awesome! Really looked great from the front gate fungi/coral to the animated creatures. Went on Black Friday with family in town for the holidays. Highly recommend buying tickets in advance as another group mentioned it was already sold out when we arrived right after 5pm. The kids loved that the train and carousel were both running.
The person at the gate was very helpful as we had multiple ticket purchases across several confirmation emails. Would definitely go again.

A place where families can come and witness animals from around the world in a protected and safe environment. The Riverbanks Zoo rescues animals from around the globe to rehabilitate them and care for them with such love. The zoo is filled with a variety of animals ranging from tigers, lions, gorillas, and birds from all countries. This place is clean, family friendly, and caters to all ages. If you're ever in Columbia, SC, I would definitely recommend this place for a fun family outing. If you wish to take friends, you can purchase yearly passes that give you 4-8 guest passes, depending on your choice of yearly pass.

The zoo is well maintained, clean, and organized.
There’s a $5 dollar fee for the parking and they have plenty of parking spaces.
You can book in advance “behind the scenes” to pet some of the animals. (Check their website).
If you go early in the morning you can feed the giraffes.
There are plenty of restrooms around, some of them smell bad and are messy, specially
If the zoo is pretty busy.
The bird part smells bad but is just the smell of the birds. Just be aware.
They rent strollers
Gift shop available
They have photographers at the entrance with a giant green screen.
They have an interactive farm for kids, a carousel, and more.
Food and drinks from outside are not allowed.

we love this place! this is my fourth time at the riverbanks zoo, and it's never failed to please. easy access, plenty of parking, affordable ticket prices (I recommend getting the extended bracelet deal, feeding the giraffes is part of it, and it's really worth it). the animals seem to be well taken care of, and if you go earlier in the day, you'll be able to see everyone waking up and hanging out (the otters were especially excited for the sunshine and company). definitely dress comfy and bring plenty of water! there's lots of shade and several drinking fountains, but it was nice to have our own on hand. this was our first time making it up to the gardens, and that was also really worth the trip up. the waterfall splash area is great for the kiddos in the heat. I believe there's a lot on the west side where you can park and the access is much easier for the gardens and play area. all around great time!

The zoo was awesome! There were a lot of nice animals, and the enclosures/habitats were more than adequate for the animals. Healthy animals! My favorite places to visit had the flamingos and the lions. They had a grizzly bear, which I had not seen before. The botanical gardens were nice, as well. Small, but nice. There is a tram that takes you from the zoo to the garden. It took me and my partner about 3.5 hours to do the zoo and the garden.

I visited her in the spring, and it was fantastic. We enjoyed feeding the giraffes. We were able to get up close to the gorillas even though their enclosure is going through renovations. I loved the sea lion exhibit. The aquarium had just recently opened back up and was super crowded. We were not able to check that out, but it looked super nice from the outside. My daughter and nephew loved all the activities this zoo offers. This zoo is very well kept, and the animals looked happy and healthy.

Went this past week with my nieces (1 yo) and they had a blast. There are lots of exhibits and we saw all of them and stayed for about 2 hours total. We were able to see all of the animals except the tiger(s). My nieces especially loved the aquarium and the penguin exhibit. We got to see them performing maintenance/cleaning in one of the aquarium tanks which was pretty cool. Also got to see a couple of young gorillas nursing. I would recommend bringing some bug spray and sunscreen. There’s a lot of tree cover and canopies at exhibits providing shade throughout the park but there are also areas in direct sunlight at many of the exhibits. The park overall was very clean and there was lots to do. Also recommend going during the week/off season as the temperature is cooler so you’re able to see more animals and it is WAY less busy. There were maybe a max of 5 other people at an exhibit with us. Did not see or visit the garden this time, but definitely have plans to visit next time. This was our 2nd time making the trip to this zoo and we will definitely be back!

Beautiful and spacious zoo. There are unique animals that live here, that are not at a typical zoo. Lots of shade to keep you cool while viewing the animals. And very, very clean!
The enclosures have lots of space and the animals seemed happy and energetic, compared to other zoos I’ve visited. There are friendly zookeepers posted around the zoo to share interesting information on the animals. They were well informed and were able to answer all the questions we asked. My favorite part was visiting the Kangaroos. You are able to actually go inside the enclosure (while staying on the path) to view the kangaroos from a short distance without any fence or obstruction blocking your view. The experience felt up close, but was a safe distance away.
We enjoyed the trek up the trail to the garden through dense trees that felt like it’s own separate space from the zoo. The garden is well taken care of and has a calming atmosphere. We then rode the tram back down the trail where we were brought back to the zoo. It is nice the facility offers the tram at no extra cost.
Overall, we had a great time! This is probably my favorite zoo now.

I visited with my kids here during the Christmas holidays. The weather was pleasant.
There was no wait line at the ticket counter.
The charges for kids and adults are almost the same.
It's not very big zoo but there are lots of animals and well maintained.
There are more than one lion, tiger, orangutan and many more.
There are different animal talk times for more information.
With special bands you can go near few animals like giraffe, feed birds and play games.
Sometimes the layout gets confusing but it's small enough to trace the steps back.
The alligator 🐊 was not there.
There are lots of picnic tables.
I could go near kangaroo 🦘.
Zoo rangers are always nearby and helpful with information or directions.
There are many eating outlets.
It's a good to spend with kids.

The zoo was pretty big, and had a good selection of animals. Compared to other zoos I've visited, it was ok. Animals were on the smaller size, and the one grizzly bear we saw looked like he had mange (fur was patchy in several places). The plus for me was that you can take the free tram to the botanical gardens which was included in the ticket price. That was my favorite part. Walking through the gardens was a nice outing, and there were places with seating, food, activities, and a splash park for kids. Overall I enjoyed it.

I would recommend getting here EARLY and leaving before 1-2pm. It gets extremely busy after lunch time, but aside from that I had a wonderful time! I had to bring my service dog with me and the staff were respectful and understanding! There are some places you aren’t allowed to go with a service animal but that is understandable and totally fine! Bathrooms were kept clean and smelled fine, there wasn’t trash or debris everywhere. The animals confinements looked clean and well taken care of which was a favorite of mine! I will say it took a while to get our food when we went up to a food truck. This was at lunch time and the place was getting pretty crowded by then. I had an absolute blast here and will definitely come back.

I dropped in unexpectedly, looking to get some steps in. Lots of trails and flora. Many places to sit and take a load off.
You can walk from the garden to the zoo, it's only 3/10 mile. Zoo was a bit more crowded, but pretty cool....and they sell beer 😁.
Check out Saluda Ruins, BEAUTIFUL walk and an interesting story. I was there for about 2 hours and got in my 10k steps.

Well worth the visit! I went with my wife and 2 kiddos, oldest is 9. We really liked the aquarium with a wide variety of up close exhibits. The ocean exhibit had numerous "Coming Soon" attractions. Note that to ride the carousel or do the climbing wall, you must buy extra tickets like at a carnival, but the prices are not ridiculous. When we went, the carousel cost $2 per ride. We also let our daughter try the high ropes obstacle course. This was another fee ($7 per person) but well worth it. Mom and Dad enjoyed the bridge and trails to the botanical gardens, which was included with the zoo admission. Great family outing!

I've always loved the zoo, and now I get the joy of taking my girls. I do suggest a membership as it pays for itself and tickets are pricey but it's worth it. We usually take snacks with us and we have the souvenir cups. We love doing boo at the zoo and the lights at the zoo

Such a great place to bring the family to! The kids loved seeing the animals and learning about all them. Love their aquarium area too! So neat to see them all and watch the kids eyes light up with joy over seeing how they live. If you haven’t gone yet I’d strongly suggest going asap!

Took advantage of the last free Friday for this month. First time at the zoo and was not disappointed. Only spent about 2 1/2 hours but really enjoyed. I pretty much stuck to one side of the zoo this time and will explore the other half later on. Highly recommend. The only thing I wish they had was more food options but I’m not complaining because i know how that goes but I went prepared! Took my own food!

Very well put together Zoo and Gardens. There is a lot of various animals to see, such as gorillas, giraffes, kangaroos, grizzly bear, sea lions and so forth. I recommend you bring some water for your walk around this zoo you will be doing a lot of walking especially if you want to walk across the pedestrian bridge.
There are a couple different options you can take to get to and from the Zoo side and the Botanical Garden side. One way is taking the Woodland Trail beginning on the garden side. Next would be taking the walking path that runs along the Tram Road it is rather steep. Finally is the Tram with are two Ford Super Duty Pickups with three “wagons” attached behind each pickup it will take you to and from the Zoo side and the Garden side. There however is usually a wait for the Tram. We chose to walk the path along the Tram road.
This Zoo was extremely crowded. It is probably best if you try to go on a weekday. We went on a Saturday it was extremely busy. I highly recommend checking out the gift shop and buying a souvenir. This is one of the best Zoos I have been to.

We had a great time, animals were cool food was good and wait times were a bit long on a few things but other wise it was great, it’s very nice and nothing is to far apart so it’s not that bad when walking from place to place extra things were very affordable being 2 dollars a person just so you know the zoo does a coin system kind of so if you want to do an extra and you had 3 people it would 6 dollars with each coin being 1 dollar a piece, extras were very cool with the extras being feeding giraffes, feeding birds and other things. I would recommend getting to the zoo as early as possible because it gets crowded very fast you could get to see more things actually moving and running around and that’s just a few things to keep in mind.

God have us an absolutely perfect day for our visit! It was 75°, partly cloudy, and a gentle breeze. Although it was fairly busy, everyone moved along through all the exhibits quickly. I'd have to say that our group's highlights were feeding the Coconut Lorikeet, walking among the kangaroos, and visiting the botanical garden (took the tram up). It's a great place for kids of all ages. The garden has quite a few play areas of all different themes and many water features. The kids were having a blast in the water activities. They even have a cabana for bathing suit changes. It's a "must see" if you're in the area. We'll be visiting again in the future.

Came to the zoo in the morning. Most animals were out as breakfast was being served to some of the animals. It was pleasant that the weather was cool, so a light coat or long sleeves did the trick. By the time it was 11 a.m., it warmed up. Not very crowded, it was nice to walk through and take some time to see the animals starting their day. Since it was 9:30 am when I got in, not many food/drink places were available until closer to 11, so I purchased a bottle of water from one of the vending machines and kept exploring. If you're looking for a slower pace to venture, I recommend the morning, I enjoyed it.

"Love taking the kids here! Awesome zoo with aquarium and aviaries. Large habitats are great but animals can be shy. Park lacked water due to a break on a hot day, $4 for water bottles is steep. Offering cheap bottles until boil mandate lifted would've helped. Kids enjoyed feeding birds and the sky high safari was a highlight!"

Riverbank zoo is a all day adventure for the family! I recommend buying tickets online as somedays it's packed here. Always building new and exciting exhibits for the animals. This is definitely a all day trip for all ages. Many many animals to see and multiple locations thay are indoors and cooled when you get too hot. There is also petting zoo areas and small rides like a train and carousel for the little ones. They do sell food and drinks there but they are very very expensive. We bring food and eat it outside on the benches then go back inside.

Riverbanks Zoo is always a fun day for the kids. Even after multiple visits, it never gets old. A great way for the kids to get their energy out. They absolutely love it when Waterfall Junction is open and love the giraffe feeding, too! The grounds and gardens are always beautiful!

This is a great Zoo. Downside is make sure you get the wristbands to actually participate in feeding the 🦒 and doing a good amount of things the kids will want to do. Downside was we didn't see the large tortoise or many monkeys. There were no cats available to view either as a lot of exhibits were being renovated. The food is definitely not great, everything costs so much these days. Expect to spend at least $160 for a few hours and 2 people. Clean, well staffed and easy to find.

Here visiting for the weekend and came on a Friday. Really enjoyed this zoo! I think it is very kid friendly and has a lot of activities for them to do, not just see the animals. We came at a good time (10 am) so most of the animals were pretty active. We enjoyed seeing the reptiles and Gorillas the most. It was definitely busy that day due to many schools having field trips to the zoo. They only really had snacks around the park, which is expected at a zoo. I do recommend doing to Tuskers if you real food while visiting though. We also really enjoyed walking the Garden trails. I highly recommend checking out this zoo!

Other than the number of people, we had a great time. The staff was nice and all the animals were out. Can't wait to go on a weekday and be able to take our time watching the animals.
Lydia Dean — Google review
We got there at 1pm and had enough time to stop by most the exhibits, but many of the animals were sleeping. I'd recommend getting there earlier so you can go back to see the animals you missed on the first round. The zoo itself was not very big, so you can easily make a couple laps. The parking lot was hectic when we got there (1pm on a Saturday), but once we got past the entrance, we found many open spots, while others were fighting for closer parking.
The South Carolina State Museum is a large museum located in Columbia, SC that houses both permanent and rotating exhibits on a variety of topics ranging from art to history to science and technology. The museum also has a planetarium and an interactive 4D theater that are great for kids.
This is definitely a gem. They have 4 floors of exhibits. We didn’t get thru it all today. They have kid friendly exhibits as well. They have a gift shop an they also show mini movies. Today admission was $1 per person. ( First Sunday of each month).

I’ve been to the museum multiple times, as I am a local. Which also means I’ve seen many different exhibits featured here. I believe the museum is well known for the massive great white shark hanging in the entrance and can be seen from every level of the museum (4 floors ). While it’s very impressive it’s also very intimidating for younger visitors as well. My most previous trip here was a random Tuesday in April. Total spur of the moment with my 4 year old son, sister and nephew (2 years old). My son thought the giant shark was the coolest thing ever and my nephew couldn’t run away fast enough (he was leashed to his momma and just about pulled her down he ran so fast 😂). After convincing him it wasn’t going to eat him we saw the cool dinosaur exhibit, explored prehistoric times, walked the many different destinations SC has to offer, learned about SC history and saw the planetarium 🪐 they are currently completing renovations on multiple floors, so many of the hands on exhibits and interactive displays were gone. Honestly the 3rd and 4th floors held very little interest for everyone. The museum is geared more towards older kids interested in history. Although it’s a great place to visit, make sure to check the website to see what new exhibits they have and if any are unable to access. In the past they have had some great exhibits, you just have to keep an eye out. All in all, it’s a great place to take friends and family from out of town or a trip to the past on a random Tuesday with your kiddos to reminisce about horse and buggy times, rotary phones, and 1970’s televisions. Definitely a must visit when in South Carolina 💖

What a fun place to discover a little bit about everything. The stars, the sea, the land, technology, people. This museum has it all and everyone at every age is sure to have fun. The is a cafe for snacks, a gift shop, planetarium, and hands on activities throughout. It is four levels of fun. It is handicap accessible and elevators are handy. It is a lot of walking so if you do have mobility issues they have provided benches throughout for a rest.

Although it's showing its age in places (some of the exhibits are 25+ years old) the museum is clearly undergoing a renewal. Many signboards and displays have recent updates, exhibits are being tweaked, new displays are going on. It's true this isn't the state of the art museum it was in the early 90s, but it's still a solid place to pick up on state history and I still love coming here to see what's been updated since my last visit. Watching the changes from one visit to the next in almost real time has been pretty exciting!
In good weather, definitely check out the observatory. Even if it's closed due to clouds or rain, they're always happy to have a chat about the telescope and show off pictures they've taken with it, which is extremely cool. The updated space exhibits are also fantastic, as are the telescopes on display and the recent acquisitions hall. Showing its age in places, yes, but like I said it's still definitely worth the visit.

Staff were pretty friendly. I was with a large group of people. I believe there could of been a better explanation of how we could navigate the area. There was construction going on during this time. Like any museum the food in the cafe was over priced for the quality of food. There are 4 floors so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. The hours are work friendly.

The state museum really is a Columbia treasure. I've been going my whole life and now take my kids, ages 6 and 8. They are just now getting to the age where they understand and appreciate what they're seeing. I'd say any younger than 6 it's probably a better idea to check out the children's museum across the street, Edventure. This museum is definitely geared towards ages 7-8 and up, in my opinion. You can easily spend 3-4 hours at the state museum, especially if you stop to read things. There's so much rich history in SC! The planetarium theater is awesome and we've enjoyed the different shows featured over the last year or two. The 4D theater is cool, but if you have a little one scared by sudden noises, feels, etc I'd skip it. Certain films have effects where they may mist you with water, the seat may vibrate, or you may feel some other sensation. So just know that in advance. My Boys love the military exhibits, dinosaurs, and space exploration exhibits the best. There's also a very impressive telescope collection, lots of prehistoric animals, a look at transportation and daily life over the years, life of the early Native Americans, and so much more!

My daughter and I had a wonderful time exploring the exhibits. Make sure you plan to spend the entire day as there is a lot to see. My daughter really enjoyed the fossils, space, and habitat exhibits. We visited on a Friday and had very little traffic in the exhibits. There were a handful of other guests and one field trip. Something of note, the bathrooms are being renovated so they are few and far between. We ate lunch at the cafe, which had a small wait but was fair priced.

This was a letdown in a lot of ways. The displays were vast spectacles of nothingness. Large dioramas made more to take up space and less about educational content. Many, if not all of the interactive displays were broken or in some state of disrepair.

My son and grandkids live in Irmo. We were visiting from NY and found this museum and planetarium a fantastic place. We arrived for the 1:30pm show and it was OK. But the history in the museum was amazing. We only had a couple of hours to go through the museum but you really need half a day to take eveything in. When we return we will certainly come back again and spend more time.
The State House is a famous tourist destination and the capital of South Carolina. It is a fine example of Greek Revival architecture and was built in 1851. The highly-regarded design work of John Niernsee makes it one of the most beautiful state government offices in the country. The grounds include monuments to historical figures such as George Washington and S.C. Senators, as well as fallen State Law Enforcement Officers.
A friend of ours who lives in the area took us on a tour of the grounds and then we went into the building for a quick peek inside.
The grounds are well kept with a lot of statues/monuments and history. We especially loved their African American History Monument - long overdue.
The picture of the “ship” etched into the ground is an eye opener. You can see the way the laves were transported side by each and crammed in there. The way they were treated is horrible and the story needs to be told.
The State Building had gone through a long renovation and it is beautiful inside.
We loved the law enforcement memorial and it is very cool that the blue lights leading up to it from the walkway light up at night.

Definitely recommend a stop here. There is also a parking garage near by and a short walk to the main street area as well. We spent a solid hour just outside walking around the grounds. Very beautiful building and interesting history here. Lots of it. The stairs and view outside is worth going to view alone. When facing the building from main street the original building was a little to the right until it was burnt down in a war. The city was great to view and enjoy for the bringing in of the new year. The fireworks were great and wonderful to watch from the middle of main street and the oldest streets in the city.

This place has so much potential. Lacks essential necessities. Restrooms, showers, additional cabins. Great trails but could be enhanced with clear signs. The kids love it. Hospitality awesome, a gentleman came to your campsite and thanked us for being here and a little conversation. Very nice touch.

What an amazing place to ride! Katie, the manager at the front desk was very pleasant to speak to and was very helpful! I highly recommend this place. The RV sites are immaculately maintained and the tent sites are in great condition with all the amenities you could need. My family and I will definitely be back. Plan for a 2-day trip because you will not want to stop riding! There is so much to explore.

We've been here a few times but never needed anything in the service center thankfully. This time we bummed a axle on our Maverick X3
and had the opportunity to meet Mr.
Shane in the service center. GREAT GUY. Definitely living by the pay it forward mentality. He's someone to get to know if you go to Carolina Adventure World. We all could use that motto in our lives. Help somebody if you can. Shane if you ever move to NC and want a Job come find us! Your definitely a great asset to have. Thanks for your help.

Awesome place! Trails are marked well and maintained well. Place is a ghost town during the week but packed during the weekend. We stayed for three days and had a great time.

Just an hour from Charlotte. Lots of trails with varied difficulty. The trails are not marked very well. I have come across many riders that were looking for a trail sign. Bring the trail map with you for the first couple of rides.
Overall a Beautiful area you can see for miles from the main building. There is a shop with limited selection, basics like goggles, gloves, and helmets. There is a wash down area which is very helpful. I have not needed but did notice they have storage units and bike rentals.
A little pricey but everything thing is now.

We had an absolute blast. We parked the Jeeps for a change and gave something else a go and absolutely loved it. The staff were beyond helpful and friendly. Definitely plan to return.

Was coming up from FL on the way back to VA when we decided to stop by. This place did not disappoint! Best described as a cross between Hatfield McCoy Trails, Outlaw trails and the best parts of Busco Beach. Everything from rock trails to mud holes and creeks. Cabins are nice as well. Definitely coming back!

I'm hoping this review helps a potential first-timer, like my friends and I were a few days ago. I will begin with the cons and then go into the pros:
CONS
1. If you're renting vehicles like we did, note that when they say you get a "Full Day Rental" on the website, they don't actually mean full day. They mean until 4pm, so if you show up like we did around noon expecting to ride until close at 8pm, you're in for an extremely disappointing surprise. You also of course need to fill out a ton of paperwork beforehand (not unexpected), as well as watch a safety video, etc. All of that ate up so much of our time, so despite our intention to ride for eight hours that day, we only got to ride for three. Kind of was a waste of the near-$1000 we spent to ride there.
2. Be aware too that the rentals aren't good quality. They're beat up, worn out, and my ATV in particular sounded like it was going to explode whenever going too fast. Combined with the sound of constant raddles and whatnot that was going on around the engine, the entire time I was worried my ATV might break down and I'd be charged the repair fee.
3. When we went to Carolina Adventure World, there were several trails that we couldn't go on since they were being repaired and restored. This wasn't an issue, but the map that we were given was horrible. We got lost multiple times and the markers on the trails themselves were too few and too far between. I read many reviews about this place before going that warned of these two things: A horrible map and poorly marked trails. Believe it. It's true.
4. Don't buy the food from the restaurant. Bring your own. It's not that the food we had was bad, but rather it was just very poor quality for what you were paying for it.
PROS
1. You are going to have fun. Once you're on the trails, in the rocks, splashing through mud, or whatever, all your concerns will fade away. Going fast on the roads was great, dodging stones was awesome, and the experience was incredibly pleasing.
2. Even though we rode for three hours, we didn't even get to see half of this place, it felt like. Carolina Adventure World is HUGE in scale and you'll be exploring it for hours. I admit, we ended up doing a few trails more than once due to the poor map (as mentioned above), but that's okay.
3. We went on a weekday (Friday) and it was not crowded in the slightest. I genuinely think there were only six people there other than us. We only saw two while on the trails, so it was a really relaxing experience. I'm sure on the weekends though this place is crowded!
4. The location is very easy to find and get to, located right off the highway.
In conclusion, despite issues we all had a fantastic time. I just wish we could've stayed longer and didn't have to return the "Full Day" (lol) rentals half way through the day. You live and learn, I suppose. We will certainly be back soon!

This was a beautiful time of year to ride! The trees are starting to change color and when the leaves would fall I felt just like a princess.... but one that drives a sxs and is covered in mud! (Disney! Where you at on this???) The trails were well maintained and I was very happy with the family friendly atmosphere. I've been to CAW for day trips but this was the first time staying in our RV. The astroterf "lawn" at each site is brilliant! It rained one night but mud directly outside the camper entrance was not an issue. The only mud I had to truly manage was on our children who still don't see why I care! I will for sure make this an annual event to kick off our pleasure riding season! The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. I will forever cherish the memories and experience we had! Thank you CAW!!!

This place is worth the trip. You can ride here all day and never ride the same trail. Restaurant with a bar on grounds and camping.

Fun little park to ride. We (wife and I) paid for two days to ride in our CanAm X3. $121 is on the pricey side. First day we ate at the restaurant; I would advise to either get pizza or bring your own food which we did for day 2.

Very enjoyable! Good trails with a variety of difficulties. Sinage was good for the most part to keep you on the right trails. A few more at major intersections would be better. I will come back again

We had a great first time experience at CAW today. While we were riding,, I had some tire trouble but with the help of Pablo, “Pops”, and Antwan from the Trail Boss shop, they got back up and going in no time! They were all very friendly and accommodating….first class staff! We’ll definitely be back.

We just went for 4 nights (Fri-Tues) to meet our son and daughter in law and we all had a blast and had perfect weather! Trails were awesome and well marked. Cabin was clean and comfortable. We went on all the trails over the 4 days we rode and found them well marked. The service roads were really good to get to a particular trail and saved time having to travel another trail to get there. We had 2 ATVs and 1 SxS. All our machines handled all the trails well and even me and my poor, 18 year old Polaris ATV made it down safely on the double black diamond trail I got on by accident. Trails can be dusty, I found that helmets, gaiters and goggles were a godsend. Crowded on Fri and Sat but we had the place to ourselves on Sunday and Monday!
Congaree National Park boasts an expansive hardwood forest with abundant opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing and fishing. Volunteer-led programs attract weekend visitors while ranger-led programs are more frequent during peak season. While the educational sections of the park's center are partially closed, numerous items can be purchased at its gift shop. This newly developed park caters to urban enthusiasts and is highly recommended for experiencing the firefly season.
I almost hesitate to review because we LOVED it so much and don't want it to become over crowded. This is one of our favorite hiking spots! The 2.6 Mile boardwalk was easily doable with me and my elementary aged kids. It feels like an adventure but also quite safe and clean. We also picnicked in one of the many, shady spots by the lodge. After lunch we were a bit more adventurous with off boardwalk trails. There are many and they're rated by difficulty with listed distances so you can easily determine what's the best fit for you/your group. The staff was AMAZING! We availed ourselves of the gift shop for a few items. We also picked up our junior ranger books, completed the activities during our adventures, and were then sworn in as junior rangers! Including me ☺️ We got beautiful Congaree ranger badges that absolutely thrilled them. We will return as soon as we are able! It is a little more than 2 hours each way for us and totally worth it!!

A nice national park to go to. The board walk was definitely worth it with a nice raised path and information markers along the way. A good 2.5 mile hike and took about an hour. It is in a swampy area so depending on the time of year might be a little buggy and or muggy; so come prepared with water and bug repellent. But a very nice and easy walk with great information along the way and plenty of wildlife to observe!
Paige Vickers — Google review
Very cool National Park, right here in South Carolina. Swampy and buggy, so bring your bug spray, but its nice to see nature other than beach or mountains - this is how the entire southeastern US looked before Europeans settled here and deforested this brautiful place.

I had never heard of this park before planning this trip, but I am very glad that I went out of my way to come here! Very beautiful park with the informative Boardwalk Trail and easy breezy paths around the visitor center. I'm not much of a hiker, but all the trails in and around the visitor center were very walkable.

Free admission National park. Good for a day-trip hike. They are known for fireflies at night. There are multiple trails to hike. Some were flooded because its low altitude. Park rangers were friendly and helpful. It’s a beautiful and serene park. It’s very close to Columbia, SC. Restrooms were clean. The famous boardwalk was nice and handicap accessible.
Wind Napol — Google review
Went here and did the boardwalk trail, although much of it was flooded, so do be aware of park closures. It is a nice and peaceful walk in nature, although nothing outstanding like many of the other national parks are. Probably wouldn’t go back, unless I lived close by or in the area.
Gabriella — Google review
The park was so popular on the weekends, which included volunteers led programs. The ranger led programs are more concentrated during the peak season. The center was partially closed, mostly educational sections, however, they have a lot of stuff for purchasing and for sales. You could tell that this park is very new and geared towards urban people. I recommend to come for the firefly season. Would love to do kayaking programs with the rangers in this park too. But it's super popular and hard for accessibility.

We've visited many national parks over the years. But this was our first swamp! It was nothing like I'd ever experienced. We went late may, so the weather was perfect, and the mosquitoes were non-existent. We saw a wild hogs body, and several alligators swimming in the distance. The trails are all boardwalks, making it super easy to walk miles around the park.
Naomi Cardoza — Google review
An amazing place. Nice Ada accessible board walk. 2.8 miles. Lots to see with different animals , plants and layouts within a few biomes. Lots of hiking trails. Visitors center.
escott bergren — Google review
We always see something interesting here. This time it was 3 snakes, 4 turtles, and tons of fish. There are lots of trails and they are well marked, but it is easy to get off trail if you are not careful. Staying on the boardwalk is great with small kids. We always see water snakes in the summer, but this time we saw a Cottonmouth and a Rattler. Check the website before you go - sometimes it is flooded and only a few trails will be open.
Beth McK — Google review
Little known National Park that offers a lot of natural history of area vegetation and native wildlife. Great walking paths. The 2.5 mile boardwalk offers easy walking but not much to offer for younger kids.
Larry Taylor — Google review
This place was amazing. Part of the boardwalk was flooded about 4-8 inches which made for a really cool barefoot hike ! Weather was perfect (end of march) and this place was just beautiful. Lots of little reptiles and massive trees (100+ft) very simple hike on the boardwalk. Even saw someone with an electric wheelchair out there. Absolutely recommend this place!! And entry is free !!!

Took my sisters here for their first hike and their first National Park trip, and they had an absolute blast. The rangers were super kind and helpful, the hikes we found were easy to follow (especially for first-timers), and the place is absolutely gorgeous. Would definitely recommend for camping as well.
It is safe to say that I have successfully recruited them into the world of collecting National Park cancellation stamps, and it's largely due to the great time exploring this awesome park.
Aniyah Pendleton — Google review
Great hidden gem! I took my young kids and we did the boardwalk trail. Felt very safe clean and sturdy for being in a swamp. It was so peaceful. Park ranger was very friendly and informative. Will definitely come back when the weather is more cooperative to explore the other trails!
Sara Miskin — Google review
It is such a shame this is one of the least visited national parks. And its free!
This park is beautiful. The cypress trees provide great shade but it can be humid and hot in the summer. But there are lots of bugs everywhere playing bumper cars with your face!
There are many trails to hike depending on your level of experience and appetite for adventure. We did the boardwalk trail which was easy. We wanted to hike the weston lake trail but saw gators and water moccasins close to the banks of the lake and decided not to for precaution. Trails are marked throughout.
However, I can see why this is one of the least visited parks. The visitor center was lacking pizzazz. It would be better if there were more interactions between the park ranger and visitors through educational programs or ranger talks. But rangers do not approach you and try to talk to you.
I am not sure I would come back again but am glad I had the chance to stop by while in the area.

We visited the park after 5pm so didn’t get to see visitor center. About 1 of 2.5 miles of boardwalk was under water but we managed to walk it all the way (barefooted, kneedeep). On the trail we saw Otters, Snakes, leaches and an Owl (real up close, see video). Despite the flood it was a great experience

We went for the boardwalk trail. It was a really nice walk. We saw a lot of animals on the way, including alligator and turtles! For those who are going first time, don't forget to take a paper trail guide as there are many interesting points a long the trail. There are available at visitor center.

One of more unknown and underrated National Parks, Congaree was a pleasant surprise. Start at the visitor center, where there is free parking, picnic tables and grills, restrooms and the gift shop. The visitor center is a little dated and could use a refresh, especially the restrooms.
The boardwalk trail was lovely and has a lot to look at. It does get crowded on the weekends because it’s great for families. If you want more of a secluded longer hike, we did the Weston Lake Loop, which took a couple of hours but it was worth it.
Chris Listenfelt — Google review
The biodiversity is this floodplain is amazing. From trees(bald cypress) having swollen trunk base to knees(roots that rise above ground) to support trees during floods to switch canes because elevation rise by only a few inches, and tallest deciduous trees (130-150 feet) in the world, and dwarf palmetto, to how the area was used by slaves to hide away and bootleggers to make alcohol during the ban. Do hike the Weston lake and oak ridge trails to get a chance to see some wildlife.

Such a great park!
Plenty of trails, ranging from easy to difficult, Short to long.
Very clean, nice, restrooms on site at visitors center.
Boardwalk trail is fantastic, shaded, smooth. Little under 3 miles but not bad at all. Wheelchair accessible.
Absolutely wonderful park, kept up with.
Free entry.
Campsites available

Fun! We waded through the Swamp to make it all the way around the boardwalk. Not many people. It was nice that pets were allowed.
We were grateful for the time of year we visited because I'm sure mosquitoes are terrible when it's hot!

A beautiful and unique national park experience - specifically if you take a canoe or kayak to explore it.. highly recommended to book a guided canoe tour, to include no worries about getting lost in the swamp!

Great! Went 3/21 about a week after rain. Boardwalks were fine. You could see how high the water was! A great little place for also bringing kids and dogs! If I were to go again I would want to kayak/canoe!

Congaree National Park was free to enter, and parking was plentiful. I went on a weekday perhaps, that's why it wasn't busy. The main attraction in the park is the board walk. It's about 2 miles, and it's a loop that ends where you began. I was pretty excited to see a swamp, having never seen one before. However, after the first few hundred feet, it quickly becomes redundant. The visitor center gives you a small map that tells you about the different numbered signs along the walk.
I believe every national park is worth visiting. This one was probably the most uneventful national park I have been to, though. Or maybe swamps aren't my thing.
Dan Stewart — Google review
Such a lovely national park. Part of the boardwalk trail was flooded out, but there was still plenty to see and experience. We definitely want to return!
Allison Rensberger — Google review
We came here during flood season but it was still fun. There's a few trails you can take while it's flooded, and it's kind of nice to see that side of the park. If you want to avoid flood season, I Believe you need to go in the summer and fall. The park rangers are so nice and helpful, and there were no mosquitos.
Dani Drugan — Google review
A smaller National Park but a unique ecosystem. This park is basically a large swamp. The boardwalk trail is 2.4 miles and is very easy to walk. You can walk through an old growth hardwood forest that includes native bald cypress, beech, tupelo, and loblolly pine. Water was high this visit due to recent storms but not quite at flood level. The great thing about visiting in March, no mosquitoes. I hear they can be quite thick in the summer. If you are a National Park enthusiast like I am, this is a great place to experience something different. Unlike other parks, there were no crowds, and we enjoyed the solitude during the hike. There is off boardwalk hiking but did not attempt because of the high waters.

This park isn't going to "wow" you with views and geological structures. Enchanted forest feel. Old growth trees are amazing. Very quiet and peaceful place. Boardwalk is a great hike. Entrance to the park is free.

Excellent recreation/ restoration of pre-revolutionary war America. We lucked out and met a historian from the project who explained some very neat facts about the buildings, the grounds, the project timeline and scope… lots of great stuff happening here. Wonderful walk around the grounds — I particularly liked the redoubts.

I enjoyed a lovely evening at Historic Camden’s Jollification event on Dec 3. The 1800 little building was cozy with decor, candles, and live, period music. A variety of drinks were available, both with alcohol and without and enjoyed at a wonderful table while playing old timey board games. One hour is sufficient time spent at this event. I’ll be back!

A great place to learn about the history of our town and the Revolutionary War. There are lots of events/activities that go on here every month. They have house tours, lantern tours, tea parties, craft classes, and demonstrations happening all the time.
We come and walk the grounds and the nature trail alot. The trail is short and flat, but if it has rained it will be muddy in places. It runs along the Pine Tree Creek.

I love getting to visit this historic site. The Revolutionary War played such an integral role in American history, and it’s wonderful to be able to visit a site where part of this history took place. I love this place! We stopped here on the way to visit friends. I am so glad we did. We arrived on the perfect day. The second Saturday of every month they have a reenactment. The volunteers dress in period costume and demonstrate many aspects of life in the time period. George Washington makes an appearance and I think there is a parade. We had a wonderful time and learned a lot. I would recommend this stop for anyone of any age.

Great informative and interesting time visiting the historical village of Camden. Highly recommend that you do it with the guide as you learn so much more about it than just doing it alone. Takes about 60-120m so not a quick stop but worth it overall. Super nice people in a great American town.

Tranquil park known for its swans, geese & ducks, plus Japanese iris blooms & a lake with turtles.
Beautiful place to visit, go on walk/jog, have a picnic, let your kids play on the playground! It’s so peaceful in the spring there are many many different flowers, the chocolate garden is my personal favorite. Don’t forget to take the elevator to the other half of the park & the gift shop has a few different souvenirs/T-shirt’s!

Nice walking trails with beautiful flowers that fill the air. Honeysuckle, irises, sun flowers, etc. There's a great playground there with two different covered spots to enjoy a meal together. The swans can be seen throughout. Along with turtles, fish, tadpoles, ducks, and so much more. It's definitely worth a trip! There's no fee to get in, and the park closes at sunset. My kids and I spent over four hours there and loved every bit of it!

My 2 sisters and I visited while in South Carolina for a funeral. It was simply life changing for me to talk, walk, video and build with Mr and Mrs Fryar. He was concerned that his gifts wouldn't last. He knew that he was getting older and wanted to make sure his life lessons would be built upon. I am so glad to see that this is now a non-profit and people will preserve what Pearl Fryar has started. I hope that you create the scholarship for "C" students that he is passionate about. I hope that South Carolina makes this a national monument with a historical marker, while he is still alive to honor him. He is the reason so many unknown and countless people visit from around the world to see his masterfully skilled labor of horticultural love. I pray that the Fryar family are in good health and are loved by the community he loved and helped to bring together. His story truly exemplifies how you can turn what was meant to hurt, kill, divide and destroy into something extraordinary. Peace and Blessings . We love you Pearl and Mrs Fryar ❤️ ♥️ 🙏🏾

This garden is a hidden gem. As I got closer, there is a sign on the right side of the road notifying me to turn at the next left. As I enter the street, I was greeted with some topiary on both side of the street. I entered a neighborhood where the topiary garden is located. Note, parking lot is a large grassy area facing the house/topicary garden in the left. To start the self guided tour, cross the street and go to the right side of the house when facing the house, and there is a station where you can get info and brochure on the garden. There is a donation box, and please make a donation. Mr Pearl is in his 80s and not able to maintain the grounds, and Mike is helping with maintenance including trimming the trees and bushes. Some topiary appeared to easily figure out. I think I saw a Cobra, swans, but many, if not all, are abstract art. Use your imagination. There are also creative art displays. For example, there were bells with chain decorating a dead tree, a fountain built with an old stove, etc... My appreciation for this park went hundred times after learning the story behind this park. We were blessed with running into Mike Gibby-Scissorhands Gibson, who shated the story with us. He was so informative and was so nice to stop what he was doing to talk to us and answered all our question. He said that Mr Pearl often sit outside to meet some visitors. The restrooms are on the right side of the house in the back.

It's a nice place to see, impressive that one man would take his time to do all that. I have to admit I was a little disappointed though.
From the things I saw online when researching I thought it was some huge attraction that the family can enjoy and have a memorable day with. We drove 4 hours from GA (total of 8 hours round trip). Took about 10 minutes to see everything.
This was supposed to be the highlight of the childrens spring break 😂😂. I really don't want to take away from his hard work. I am really in awe that the owner did all that personally, I just wish I had seen a honest review telling me I was traveling hours to go see someone's yard.

What a beautiful garden maintained very well. The sculptures are nice too. I hope people donate and help this place. It takes about 30 minutes to view the entire garden.

Serenity and off the regular beaten path. Love the story behind this topiary too.
We'd come back just to walk the street (rather than a slow drive) for the whole meditative quality. 🚐
Public botanical garden with woods, trails & diverse plant & animal life, plus educational programs.
Wonderful place to visit. We didn't get to walk the whole thing, but we did enjoy the time we were there. Lots of flowers were in bloom, so there was a lot of beauty to be seen. We loved walking the trail by water, it was very peaceful and the paths were great. We can't wait to go back when it is warmer and even more flowers are in bloom.

This place is really beautiful in full bloom. Everywhere you looked was worth another photo. The trails were enjoyable and not too strenuous. I would have liked the trails to have been marked better with "You Are Here" type maps so you didn't feel lost. I would definitely pick up a map at the entrance so you can find your way. There was one section where the boardwalk is rotting and needs to be replaced. It looked like at one point it was taped off but someone had removed that. I really enjoyed the peacefulness of it. It isn't so remote that you don't hear traffic but you can enjoy hearing all the birds singing.

Kalmia Gardens is a journey back in time and a sweet spot on the drive to the beach from the upcountry in S.C. It's free...so enjoy all spring has to offer at this beautiful Southern Home and Gardens before the kids ask " R we there yet?" There are lots of 🚶♂️ steps and hills if you like to hike in the woods. It even has more wooded trails than gardens. It does not compare in size to the greater gardens of Brookgreen or Magnolia, yet it has its own small town beauty. You might say it is "like a farm home away from home". It's not crowded and it's kindly a perfect stop. You don't have to pack a lunch or cooler if you stop at Mc Leod Farm ( Mc Bee SC). Simply pick up some fresh strawberries and order some farm take out for your very own picnic at Kalmia Gardens! When you arrive at the gardens, you can picnic, then play away and take a hike to the lake just like your grandparents did as kids. Before you leave, make sure you read the stepping stone behind the Plantation Home. It's a Narive American proverb.

This garden is a hidden gem. It is fantastic! A lot like Congaree with boardwalks over a river floodplain. Great trails. There are lots of stairs and hills. Not for strollers and no handicapped access.

I loved this garden. The azaleas were blooming and some camellias. The trails were a little challenging for my companions, but beautiful and peaceful. I had no problem avoiding the roots and navigating the slopes. The boardwalk through the cypress groves was awesome. A really wonderful experience.

Kalmia Gardens is a hidden SC gem with a variety of outdoor activities. Visitors can drink from a refreshing artisan spring, hike lovely trails through woods or use the boardwalk to view the creek. Visitors can also stroll fragrent garden paths, enjoy picnics on the shaded lawns, or rock on the covered porch. The views are breathtaking and provide wonderful photo and video opportunities. Restrooms are available to visitors.

I enjoyed this garden. I came during autumn when the leaves were changing and falling. The path that leads into the forest is an elevated wooden walkway. Be careful going down the stairs to get to the walkway because it is kind of steep. I want to come back in the spring to further explore.
This stock-car racetrack hosts NASCAR events & driving schools plus has an on-site museum.
Came down from Virginia last Thursday, paying Tribute to Cale Yarborough. Toured the Museum which was fantastic. Walked in the ticket office, the young man there grabbed the gate keys and opened up the track for us to take some pictures. Thank you!!! A kind gesture in so many ways!!

The Lady in Black. It's all hype. Easy to get in and out of. Great racing. The fan experience is nothing. Walk up a hill get in.The volunteers are amazing as usual. This track has a drainage problems. The" Darlington Creek" right in the middle of the concourse. The hat pin is a joke. Two pin points and you literally need a magnifying glass to read it. Somebody messed up. It was fun. Plan on packing everything. Old and not nice. Like Talladega.

This weekend was a birthday present from my wife, taking in all three races here was so much fun. We were seated in a mid spot of the grandstand for the truck race and Xfinity race, right at the start/ finish line. We were upper level in Pearson tower for the cup race. Where we were you can take in the entire track. It is awesome!!! The ease of access in and out of general parking was a big plus. Leaving the cup race you expect to sit. Local police and highway patrol made getting to the highway very smooth. Free golf cart service was available to get us from the facility to our vehicle and back. We took in three great races and sat next to some really fun fans. Great racetrack for the fan that does want to miss a second of the action.

Great bonding experience for 3 generations!! Wish the seats had backs, but overall a great family adventure. Bathrooms & food were acceptable. We went to a less Congested race which was great with a first race ever for our 3 year old.

My Husband and I stopped by today to visit the Stock Car Museum and Gift Shop. I'm personally not a NASCAR fan, but my Husband is. We had a really good time looking at all of the stock cars and learning about some NASCAR history. I was surprised to actually enjoy it myself. We tried to see the track before we left, but unfortunately they weren't able to accommodate a viewing at the time, but that's okay! A good excuse to come back again another time!

Pros: NO TRAFFIC getting in; they had people to park cars and there was plenty of space to park and tailgate. Entry was also quick and they actually had security. They had our tee shirts ready at Will Call. Pearson Tower has great views. You can take your water and beer inside with you, so you’re not forced to buy concessions. All of this outweighs the cons.
Cons: People being allowed to solicit donations and sell stuff in the parking lot. They needed to spread out the portable toilets more. The seating in Pearson Tower is a little tight if it’s crowded. The Jumbotron needs to be moved closer to the stands. I had to use binoculars to see it. Concessions are insanely expensive. They won’t take cash: I hate this and it needs to change.
Overall: Awesome place, close to home, and I can’t wait to go back.

Keep on coming back to this wonderland. I Love it and my grandchildren do too. Love the Dog run by the Public restrooms. My dog enjoyed the freedom it had being able to drink water and do his business with out a leash.
Public restrooms are cleaner than most establishments we visited. The attendant was very helpful, knowledgeable, and Super Sweet.

I'm a trucker and didn't do the motel, I did the steak house, the little joint at the fuel desk is no more.. I don't get here often and didn't know it'd closed. The steak house was pricey, compared to what I intended to do. I rarely go to places like that, so I splurged and ordered a porterhouse.. it was prepared perfectly and the baked potato was as good as they come, salted husk etc.. but to be clear.. very clear.. it was a pretty good T-Bone, it in no way was a Porterhouse. If it hadn't been prepared as well as it was and an excellent salad bar I might add, I'd probably have fussed at them, I surely would have written a scathing review as well.. the young lady who waited on me was very pleasant to.. so there you go.. armed with my perspective.. I'll do it again, as a treat.. not a quick meal ever..

Stopped in for the night. Our first stay. Stayed in a room adjacent to the outdoor pool. Rooms were bare basic but updated and clean. Shower mat could use a scrubbing and when we came into the room the shower faucet was leaking which they remedied. Our family enjoyed using both the indoor and outdoor pools. Outdoor was a salt water pool and indoor was chlorinated. Both mattresses in our double bed room were not the same. One was older with springs you could feel covered over with a padded mattress topper and the mattress on the other bed was newer and more comfortable or less squeaky. Didn’t realize this until I had put my children to bed in the more comfortable one. I could have slept better.
Overall not a bad stay by any means at a good price point. Really enjoyed the pools!

South of the Border is in need of some work to upgrade. Yes you can get gas, and yes there is an RV park. But fix the buildings. I bet most of the shops have been there without upgrading from when my mom and dad stopped there when we were children on our way to Homestead, Fla. My dogs have a place to stop and eat. I do appreciate that small luxury.

We got to spend the night at South Of The Border for our first time ever and we have to that we definitely enjoyed our experience.
The check in staff was friendly and helpful. The room was small with no modern conveniences but we didn't need anything like that we were happy to have a place to rest for the night.
It was quiet over night so we got our good night's sleep.
We look forward to coming back again.

It is not new, nor fancy, but it clean, a reasonable rate, there is plenty to do. The staff was great. The restaurant food, I was only to one location and had a cheeseburger, was cheaper grade. The hamburger patty was one of those patties that was made with every part of the cow, and was small. Again, even in the restaurant, the staff was great. I would definitely stay there a again, but next time I will bring a coffee maker.

Our first time trying this place and it was nice. The room was clean. The bed and pillows very comfortable. The water was very hot for baths and showers. They also have a nice heated pool! Check in and check out was pleasant. It is a motel so you do hear noise from outside people and cars. The Peddler Steakhouse was great and the ice cream shop at Sombrero room was yummy.

We got there super late into the night. The front desk was helpful and sweet. She hooked up us with accommodation that were right for our party and the taste was completely affordable.
The bed was comfortable and the pillows were soft. Not very long after climbing into bed, I was sound asleep.
My only regret was that we were unable to stay longer and explore more.

In my opinion, this place is stuck in the 70's. The past 4 times we've stoped here gave us an Erie feeling. It was always empty, I mean the whole place, felt alone no matter what time we stopped there. It was like entering an abandoned town that you just want to hurry up and get out of there quickly. If you like going back in time, this is for you

So, we have driven past S.O.B for years and never had the opportunity to visit or stay, well that changed last night. We couldn't resist the lights and lore of this famous roadside landmark.
I reserved online for a standard King room, approximately $107 with 50% down with deposit. When I received my email confirmation, it said that "check in time is 3pm" and "after 7pm, the reservation will be released", so I called the desk to inform them we wouldn't be arriving until 8:30pm or so. When we arrived, the reservation was still there. We paid the balance at check-in. The room was a decent size, clean with tile floor (no carpet). Only one side of the bed had an accessible outlet for charging phones. And a mattress upgrade wouldn't be a bad idea, IMHO The Sombrero restaurant was open until 11pm. Very clean, good hot food, and very friendly staff. After dinner, we went into Polanco's Bar, which was also open until 11pm. Tasty margaritas and friendly bartender. In the morning, we returned to the Sombrero for breakfast, again, good hot food and friendly wait staff. Next stop was Reptile Lagoon, because that was on our travel list (to see alligators). There's a lot to see in there, and for only $8/adult, you can't beat the price.

Place was spacious, nice and clean. The TV was kinda small for the size of the room. They advertise a heated pool but the pool was cold so we didn't spend about 5 minutes in it. If you go after 6 pm every thing was closed except a place that served a little bit of food. If we would have known that there was a Waffle House on the other side of the interstate we would have gone there instead. Other than that a nice souvenir shops and a great fireworks selection.

Nice safe tourist trap of a small town. I really couldn’t find any negatives for the price I paid. Room was spacious compared to many motels, every room has a parking spot in front of it, no pet fee was a big plus for me. Service was very friendly and professional. Overall a good place to stay if you need to stop and sleep along 95. Would come back for sure.

I haven't been here since I was a kid, and I don't think it's changed at all. The only criticisms I have is that tiles are cracked in the rooms and a lot of the decor is aged... It's dated, yes, but that's the allure. It's also aged and could use some repair... But it's still wonderful. The staff was friendly, rates are cheap, the room was very clean and even pet-friendly. Absolutely loved the place, would definitely recommend to anyone passing through

My husband brought me here 7 years ago for the first time, for me, and this was the 2nd with our kids. It is a great souvenir spot. It is a little outdated, but the souvenirs are good, and there are a lot of them. There are several businesses here. Some are food, and some are just souvenir shops. It is a great place for the kids to see and take pics. It's located around Florence, SC.

The updated rooms are nice. The room we stayed in last night was outdated, but clean. The water in the tub ran all night though. (Not a trickle, it ran. Would not shut off.) We got in too late to really care though. (We just kept the bathroom door closed so we didn't hear it.) The employees are very friendly and the prices are reasonable as well. There's lots to do on the area as well.
Karen Hannis — Google review
Hotel stay was sub-par, we got in so late, no energy to really complain. Hotel staff secured us an “updated” accommodation, however the room itself left a lot to be desired. Hotel pricing was very reasonable, but, may not be worth just sleeping in your truck. Walls are paper-thin, shower water pressure and heat were meh. Truck parking is ample if you get there early enough. Best joint on the compound is “Polanco’s Bar” by and far, Michelle is a sweetheart. We’ve eaten at “The Peddler Steak House” several times, it’s just OK, price point high for what it is (but not much else in the area for “home-cooked” style meal)
T. Nguyen — Google review
We are there off-season, so I'm sure that's why there were no crowds. The places a little bit dated. However, however, it is absolutely sweet. The shops the gift shops, wonderful merchandise, very authentic stuff. Prices are more than reasonable staff and all the locations are great. I hope this place that's better with a little bit of investments of money. A few different rides and attractions. This place would be a destination point all year round.

Everything was very clean, staff was friendly and the food was very good.
Kinda got stuck here because we had the rig and were just too tired to drive any further, but we ended up being pleasantly surprised. Dinner at the steak house was excellent (really didn't expect that), breakfast at a different restaurant was very good and was 20% off for booking a room.
The rooms were just fine. They even came with their own little car ports. They each have 2 doors. 1 to the car port and 1 to the pool. I wouldn't call it fancy, (it's not supposed to be), but it was clean, the food was great and we had so much fun! (All the statues in various places made for fun pictures.) We will 100% be back on future trips.

SOB is friendly to veterans and military as well as their families. We really appreciate this!
Security patrols the whole place keeping an eye out. There is lots of room to walk around and look at all of the neat attractions. Several places to eat, including a fancy steakhouse.
For the price it can’t be beat! Rooms are spacious, but basic. Some have refrigerators and coffee pots but others do not. You would have to ask when you check in.
Two nice pools are available to you.

This has been a half way poit when driving to flordia. Everytime we go the bathrooms are horrendous the workers in there complaining about how it's not worth working there which it shows because the hand dryers don't work and honestly has become a place I don't want to stop by anymore. Rooms were spacious but creepy, dark and wet feeling. Clean but oddly uncomfortable. Front desk was polite. No cdl discounts despite being right next to truck stop. $107 for a room. Atalaya Castle, a sprawling 2,500-acre park located in the United States, features a stunning Moorish-style dwelling and sculpture garden. Visitors may explore the grounds on guided tours or visit the visitor center for more information. The Castle is an intriguing historical site that provides visitors with an opportunity to imagine life during medieval times. Additionally, it neighbors a nearby park making it an excellent destination for all those seeking outdoor adventure.
Really amazing what the Huntington's created and the culture they brought to the area. The castle is interesting to meander through it's numerous rooms and with some imagination you can picture the Huntington's working on their numerous projects from sculpting to poetry. Worth the walk through the property! Don't forget Brookgreen gardens! Really amazing and beautiful landscape and artwork.

Located on the grounds of Huntington State Park is the Atalaya Castle. Built in 1931, this was the winter residence of industrialist and philanthropist Archer M. Huntington and his wife, the sculptor, Anna Hyatt Huntington. It was named Atalaya, Spanish term for watchtower and designed after the Moorish architecture of the Spanish Mediterranean Coast. This walled structure formed a square with two courtyards inside, east side facing the ocean and the west side a main entry court. The living quarters had 30 rooms that included a kitchen, food service/preparation area, dining room, breakfast room, sunroom, wardrobe/clothes storage, bedrooms, baths, servants’ quarters, library, Mr. Huntington’s study, his secretary’s office and Mrs. Huntington studio. A 40 foot square tower housing a 3000 gallon cypress water tank gave enough water pressure to flow through the house. Additional buildings featured a horse stable, a dog kennel, a bear pen and an Oyster shucking shed. Rooms were heated by wood fireplaces and coal heaters. The name seems not fitting as no moats, ramparts, turrets, towers, look outs, and gatehouse are featured. More of a fortress with its single story structure, narrow walled walkways, grillwork and shutters over each window and enclosed courtyards. The bare rooms do offer some descriptive placards, otherwise it is a self-guided tour and you are on your own with a floor plan map. Cost is $2 per person, free if you have a yearly state park pass, to help the upkeep and maintains of the property. Come and tour the historical grounds, spend some time on the beach and go looking for alligators along the coastal preserve.

Atalaya Castle, located in Huntington Beach State Park, South Carolina. It's a historic castle built during the 1930s and is now a popular tourist attraction.
Atalaya Castle was the winter home of Archer M. Huntington and his wife, Anna Hyatt Huntington. Archer Huntington was a philanthropist and founder of the Hispanic Society of America, while Anna Hyatt Huntington was a renowned sculptor. They used Atalaya as their residence during the colder months.

Located within Huntington Beach SP near the entrance to Brookgreen Botanical Gardens. There's a fee to enter the park and a $2/person charge to enter Atalaya. Since the outside is unappealing at first glance, it is highly suggested to go inside. Atalaya is the winter home of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington. Inside is surprisingly fascinating and will shed light on the Huntington's; her sculpting with live animals and using aluminum; he designing a sprawling Moorish-influenced compound as it was being built; and their unique eccentricities which made Atalaya impressive and far advanced for its time (1930s). It was used as an art studio and a place of rest & study. Built as an oceanfront property, the waves were literally lapping 10 to 15 feet from their front patio. Now the ocean cannot be seen as it's 100 ft or so from the house. Tours are self guided. Fortunately, we arrived at the start of an afternoon guided tour. A gift shop and restrooms are at the castle's entrance. Ample parking nearby.

Gorgeous place! And self guided tours are always the best!! Only downfall would be that there was a wedding going on at the castle, so we felt a little awkward walking through the courtyard. But it was all so beautiful!! Remember it's $8 per person to enter the park, then $2 per person to tour the castle. So $10 pp.

Atalaya Castle was a beautiful place, I've been wanting to take my kids here to look around for a while and we finally did. It's $2 per person over the age of 3 years old. They were working on some upkeep when we went and I can definitely justify $2 to walk through this structure. I would definitely love to ask next time if we can picnic on the lawn in the courtyard section as it would be a great spot to go for a date day or possibly evening. The boys definitely loved it and what it would be like to play hide and seek there!!! (Would be so much fun! But don't do it lol) I would definitely pay another 2 dollars in the summer to see if it's filled beautifully with flowers.

This is an old house built in 1931 in a Moroccan Style by Archer Huntington, a philanthropist from New York. The house was used by the armed forces during World War II to patrol the coast. It's a great place to go to the beach and spend some time or the whole day. Brookgreen Gardens is also a part of this park although you would have to pay a separate entry fee. The house has some 30 rooms to explore and it's upkeep is improving each year.

Its $8 a person to get into Huntington SP. Before you go to the beach and explore, this is a pretty cool side quest to check out. Nice historic grounds to walk around and get a glimpse of the early 1900s life. $2 charge well worth it to walk the grounds. It's bare and brick but you can feel the essence of the greatness and energy that use to fill this place. If you have an imagination and appreciate art, check it.

Loved it. It's located in Huntington Park. Admission is $8 per person to get in the park the $2 per person additional to enter the castle. There are bathrooms, outdoor shower, gift shop, beach access and a playground. Also, save your $8 receipt for the park and you can use it to get into Myrtle Beach State Park the same day. Really a neat place to visit.
Tranquil path bordering the Waccamaw River, with benches, grassy areas & playgrounds along the way.
Scenic place for a great walk! The path is mostly flat. There's a very nice playground for kids to play. Next to the playground is a public restroom with real plumbing, not just a port a John or outhouse. There's plenty of places to sit along the way too. Hungry? There's restaurants that can be seen not far off the path. I can't recommend this gem enough!

Very nice place. My family and I really enjoyed having picnic 🧺🧺 there among squirrels, birds and people riding their boats. I'd strongly recommend this place to MB visitors.

Such a beautiful place! We will definitely be back as we spotted a restaurant there that we would love to try because the food smelled amazing.
Plenty of spots where you can just sit on a bench whether it's to take in the scenery or you just need to rest.
The later it got the more kids were on it though (around 5pm) the ones with the scooters were mostly polite & would let you know if they were coming up behind you. There were kids on bicycles racing though and almost ran into my mom & I, as well as some others. I don't really think the bicycles or scooters should be allowed for safety reasons. The bicycles were going so fast they kept sliding even as they were trying to stop, if it would've been someone older who couldn't have moved out of the way as fast they definitely would've gotten hit & knocked over.
This really is a beautiful place with information signs all around the walkway.
My advice would be to go in the early evening, if you go later just be careful.
They do allow camping (I spotted it on an info sign).

Beautiful walkway. Flat walkway for easy walking or ambling. Nice are for people with pets on a leash. Open, spacious parking. Gorgeous views of the river. Spacious forestry. Nice place to take a break.

Lovely spot to walk. The Riverwalk is well maintained and easy. Much shorter than expected but still pleasant.
There are a couple of docks to be able to launch kayaks into the river. The river is very long and goes to the Atlantic Ocean.
Nice benches to sit and enjoy watching boats go by. There is a restaurant on the walk. It was closed when we were there. Other restaurants are close by.

A really great place to take a stroll either in the daytime or before or after dinner. The boardwalk style walkway is very well kept and a nice addition to the beautiful city of Conway. Photo opportunities of the bridge and waterway were great, even on a rainy day. Most of the walkway is wheelchair accessible too.

Very nice river walk. Not long at all, about .25 mile. But nicely done. A couple of sculptures on the way. Gators and snakes. But wouldn’t drive out here just for the river walk.

Conway has been doing so many great things lately and taking a stroll along the Riverwalk and through downtown has become a weekly event. During the holidays seasons especially is the time to go look at all the great decorations the town and businesses put up.

Went here on a Friday evening to see the Christmas lights. We were not disappointed. The downtown was very festive. Most windows had holiday displays, then they had a drive-through light area whisch is $2 per person again, worth the drive. If you are in the area, you have to stop.

Mostly beautiful scenery at the river. A lot of trash was piled at the docking area. A lot of history was learned. The Spanish moss, the trees, and the river made for a beautiful 85 degree day. Everyone spoke and was friendly. Thank you Conway SC.

A beautiful place for a walk, the walk is not that long though. Nice view of the river and the forest, sky looks amazing, easy to find with lots of free parking spaces. Highly recommended.
