Yosemite National Park is by far one of the most beautiful places we’ve explored so far in the US. With the vast forests and mountainous landscapes, this is a picture perfect place to be. With countless hiking trails and mountains to climb, this is an outdoorsy, hiker/campers paradise. The wildlife and scenery is breathtaking. The trails are fun and provide different levels of challenging terrain. Its peaceful and calming rivers promote an infinite amount of space and opportunity for mediation. When visiting this region, travel with an open mind and plenty of time. Do not rush as the roads are extremely curvy. But don’t let that deter you as this place is absolute work, the travel, displaying indescribable beauty. The facilities within the national park are overall pretty clean and well stocked. There’s places where water bottles can be refilled with clean cold filtered water. This is a destination that we’ll definitely be visiting more in

If you have never visited Yosemite in the winter season then you are missing out on one of the most beautiful times of Yosemite National Park.
The things to do in Yosemite in winter are definitely much more different than another seasons because a lot of places was closed.
I went recently in the first day of January 2022, it was actually so tranquil and quiet in the park – unlike in the crazy busy summer months.
The being virtually alone driving the winding roads into the national park made it seem that I had it all to myself.
The usual 7 miles one-way loop in Yosemite Valley offering viewers a classic traditional winter, it was so relaxing and amazing, it captured many places & sights.
The El Capitan, Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, Bridalveil Falls, the Mist Trail, the Tunnel View, the Chapel, tiny villages, and camping areas was incredible different in winter.
The views of snow glistening on the top of them was truly breathtaking. It is a home of many picturesque.
One thing we always say, pictures do not do any justice to this grand view and mactplace... So get out there and explore the majestic Yosemite with your own eyes and your soul is the gift from Mother Nature.
Remember, even if your vehicle is exempted, you still have to carry the chains in your vehicle.
Bring plenty of different layers to keep you warm , and don't forget to check out the weather before you heading there.
It is a perfect time to check out our snowman every one!!!

Spectacular! Awe, inspiring! Locals told us it hadn't been like this in over 30 years, but with all the snow and rain, the waterfalls and rivers were amazing. We got there before 8am and had no trouble with parking or crowds. Some areas are closed, but there is so much to see we just went to a different area. What a national treasure. Go! Go! If you can.

One of the most beautiful national parks in USA. Many amazing view, sometimes you can think, that it's a 3D picture. Also many good trails. During summer is super busy near main locations.

This place is amazing in so many ways. The views are so breathtaking and so many restrooms along the drive so convenient. The ice cold streams are a great way to cool off on a hot day. Will definitely be visiting this place again and going on a lot of hiking trails.

Gorgeous national park, we were here in November and it was stunning to see the leaves and natural beauty. Accessible trails in most areas, some signage is a little confusing but overall great experience!
Rebekah Huber — Google review
One of the best national parks you go to in the nation. Some many different trails. Animals all over, whether to sight see or be close to. Mountains that are breathtaking. Water falls and fields.Rv spaces to camp at. Words cannot express how amazing this place is. Must visit. Once on a lifetime place.

It’s Yosemite. How do you capture such beauty in words. Ima let the photos speak and then you simply need to get out there and experience it for yourself. What are you waiting for? Be sure to make your park entry reservations. Peak season they are required. Traffic flow and parking can be tight so be prepared.

What can one say about Yosemite national Park that hasntalready been said. I was fortunate that I visited in the wintertime as I was told by our guide that the crowds and the traffic is light.
It was really amazing! Words fail to describe the majesty. And fortunately, a week prior to my visit, it snowed - and as it warmed up, snow was melting, so the falls were really beautiful.
I visited the park by using a tour service which due to the drive along the winding roads through the Sierra Nevada mountains I highly recommend it. There were a lot of seemingly dangerous curves and the drive seemed somewhat harrowing. I'm glad that I didn't drive myself.
There is a food court in the middle of the park with pizza, burgers, and a few other select food items, in a cafeteria type setting. The food was OK, nothing to write about or to review, and also a bit pricey.
There is also a shuttle that routinely drives back and forth throughout one side of the park roughly every 15 to 30 minutes (check the schedule). so it's easier to see a little bit more and then shuttle back to the lodge area or parking area.
Brian Stubler — Google review
We love Yosemite in the falls. It was peaceful morning. You can drive to there and parking. There had free bus and waiting for 30 minutes. Just 15 minuses far away to destination. When we first arrived we had the trees to our. The peacefulness lasted about 45 minutes. This gave our time see all grove had to offer without fearing we was holding someone up. We walked the loop and read all of the signs explaining the area. Deer walked along the path without seemingly noticing me. I highly recommend this grove in the morning. The forest is alive with it daily business that we are too loud to notice.

This park was absolutely beautiful. We camped at upper pines and it was the perfect balance of enough camping space, flushing potties, and running water taps. There was plenty of places to take young kids on beautiful walks and enough room for them to play in our campsite without bothering neighbors.

Amazing national park, a must see if you're in California! The park was extremely crowded when I went in late June though, so I recommend going in early, like 7 or 8 AM to get the most serene and quiet views.

Simply amazing. Ive been all over the Sierra Nevada's, but this place is just different.. Breathtaking sights everywhere you turn. It is one of the most beautiful places on this planet. It's a madhouse on the weekend in summertime, plan accordingly.

OH MY! What a beautiful park! Yosemite is majestic with its granite cliffs, jaw dropping vistas, valleys, waterfalls. The place reminds me of God's wonderful creation. It is beautiful year around. For those not into hiking there are so many beautiful spots that you can drive to in addition to the plethora of hiking trails. I am a sucker for sunsets and the sunsets here are phenomenal. Parking can be a bit challenging due to the crowds so would advise getting to the park early. There are restaurants in the park where you can grab a snack/lunch. We grabbed burger and tenders from the grill at the village and it was delicious. Yosemite is HOME and this place will always be close to my heart! ❤️

Mesmerizing, out of this world and total amazement. To fully experience Yosemite, it’s all about the trails. An incredible National Park. Year round, it offers different views with heavy waterfalls during spring and lovely snow during winter. You get to see some very unique rock formations.

Beautiful scenery! Levels of hiking for all ages and skills, short and long trails, easy to difficult. And all kinds of accommodations, from camping to very nice lodges! Love all the gift shops, but wonder why most of the gift shop items are made in China or similar?! Use local resources!

Been coming here since 1972 (yep, I'm at least that old). Every time is a new experience. Weather was like early summer. Made hikes to the falls wonderful. And, best of all, none of those INSANE summer crowds.
Guy Savage — Google review
The park was so beautiful. Went in early September. The crowds weren’t too bad and the weather was pretty much perfect. Some days a light jacket was needed. Overall it was a wonderful time and a great place to see and observe nature. The night sky is spectacular, and I would highly recommend doing a sky tour. There was a lot of road construction as it is all mountains and one road basically going in and out of some park entrances, keep this in mind as traffic can be bad.
Ashley Yaldo — Google review
One of the best trips I have made. The decision to drive to Yosemite National Park on the way to San Francisco was well worth it, although not the best in December when there is still snow on the ground. The roads were a bit icy, but the sheer majesty of the mountain and the bridal falls compensated for it.
Mohamed Khadim — Google review
A national treasure. Maybe even a world treasure. A great natural beauty located in California close to San Francisco. A scenic drive to get there and back. Visited in June 2023 and this year there was a particularly wet winter and as such some of the passes and roads were still closed due to snow. Otherwise the park was easy to visit and go through. Tons of camping options. Reservations required and check often the National Parks website for updates and information. A definite visit if in the area and a good one to take time to trek through. Highly recommended.
Ayman Husain — Google review
Beautiful park, very well structured to guarantee access for everyone for many attractions. Very high and gorgeous valley, mountains and waterfalls.
My suggestion however would be having signs throughout the trails since it gets very difficult to understand the distance to get to some places in the trail and even to understand that you have reached certain point or not (ie. Columbia spot)
Jessica Liziero de menezes — Google review
One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen in my, absolutely breathtaking. The waterfalls, mountains and trees are so beautiful and an awesome place to hike and camp as well. One must see at least once in their lifetime if possible . I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

One of the bests National Parks you could visit. We went to the Yosemite village with the kids and love how stroller friendly the location is.. you can take picture pretty much everywhere.. its majestic.. would love to camp one day
Erika Sam — Google review
A blast as usual. Highly recommend the Valley Loop hike which is 12 miles and the Upper Yosemite Falls hike which takes you to the top of the falls. Hopefully we get some good rain/snow like we did this year to really show off the falls.

Words cannot describe. If you are thinking of going, don't hesitate, go! These photos were taken in the end of May through to the beginning of June in 2023. This was when the snow melting was at its peak and caused the floods only a few weeks before. I feel the best time to go is around May but it all depends on how much snow is melting to get the best time for the waterfalls.

A lovely park with breathtaking views. Many points of interest with stops, please note that the number of parking spaces is very limited at each such stop. I really liked the episode, an amazing experience and definitely recommended

Amazing, captivating, and completely astounding. It's all about the trails in Yosemite to get the whole experience. A magnificent national park. It offers a variety of sights all year long, including gorgeous snowfall in the winter and powerful waterfalls in the spring. Some incredibly unusual rock formations are visible to you.
james joh — Google review
Incredible experience, prepare yourself for a fairly long hike, I recommend taking several days to be able to explore more of the park. You can also rent bikes and stay over there but it is a little expensive.
Alba Yañez — Google review
One of the best destinations ive had on my list for a while and am happy i finally went on it.
I took my car paid my ticket and stopped at every stop on the way to end in the Yosemite village and visitor center.
My only complaint is that the lodging inside the park is very expensive and the bathroom is dirty.
Baha Amro — Google review
If the weather is great, this place is simply magical. El Capitan and Half Dome together with a few waterfalls make this place unforgettable for any visitors. Sometimes climbers can be spotted climbing El Cap - The Dawn Wall. Wild animals like bears, deer and wolves may be spotted. The 4th largest waterfall in terms of height is located here, which also once flooded the grounds in the valley. The number of visitors will be limited now from April 2024, which reduces masses and crowded promoting better views. Some people stay here for a day and some come for a day trip from San Francisco.
Binxu748er — Google review
Always good times at Yosemite National Park. Go early to beat the crowd (6:00 am). During peak times be sure to follow the visitation requirements. There is so much to do in the park. Trails that lead to waterfalls, snow play areas, camping, sightseeing, and many other awesome attractions. Restrooms are placed in good locations.
Manny Powell — Google review
Beautiful park with amazing sights. There are numerous stops at interesting locations; however, please be aware that there are extremely few parking places available at each stop. The episode was great, highly recommended, and I truly enjoyed it.

Manzanar National Historic Site
National museum
Sights & Landmarks
Japanese-American relocation center during WWII now featuring artifacts, a virtual museum & more.
Amazing historical site that should not be missed. As many states race to erase the atrocities of the past, Manzanar stands as an opportunity to acknowledge those atrocities so we don't make the same mistakes again. This is a great visit for all of any age.
The visitors center is incredibly maintained and full of information and artifacts. The few preserved barracks and other buildings paint a vivid picture of what it was like to be interned there.

This place leaves you speechless. Wonderful educational visitor center and you can drive the tour to not be in the heat. The backdrop of the mountains is deceptively beautiful to the things that happened here. It pays homage and is respectful to the people who lived here.

This is a hidden gym. Definitely worth stopping and taking a look at. From the park ranger that greeted us as we entered. To the self-guided tour. This was a phenomenal experience. I highly recommend for anyone to stop stretch your legs and take a look around. The entry-fee. Is FREE.

This was very educational and interesting. A very sad time in history but it should be remembered and taught more! Definitely try to stay a few hours to read through the stories and exhibit. There’s a lot to read but very interesting! This is not that far back in the past. A must stop if you are in the area.

Great location to stop. It’s free. So much history in the museum. There’s a list of names of who was there. There are setups so that we can get a feel for how they lived. There’s a kids section where they have answered questions. Many audio files of people sharing their story. You can walk to a few buildings that are mocked up to show the inside of community hall, the school, someone’s apartment, the cafeteria, basketball court, of a few of the parks created by the people interned there.

Please visit! I promise anyone traveling along the 395 who who takes a few minutes to pay respect to the 10,000 Japanese AMERICANS who were forced to live there for 3 years, won't regret it. The visitor center was air conditioned and very informative. Free to visit, but you may want to make some type of donation to keep the site up and running.
Eric Clark — Google review
This is my 4th time here. This is must see and must be remembered. This should be a required field trip for all Americans. NPS has done an excellent job of telling the story of this internment camp for Japanese Americans during WWII
Brian Cho — Google review
The Manzanar historical site is a definite must stop and go in and see. The museum is beautiful on the inside and there is a wealth of information for you to see and hear. They even have little booklets for kids to fill out (it varies for kids ages on the activities in the book) to become junior rangers as it's a fun way for the kids to learn about what happened as well. They have a lovely small giftshop and clean bathrooms. They also have an auto tour you can drive with designated pull off points so you can get out and walk to see different areas (the hardest, kids village, etc) as well they have a path for you to walk it. Any vehicle can do the auto tour but if you want to drive back to the Manzanar reservoirs you will want a vehicle that can handle dirt roads with rocks/light offroading( I would not suggest cars or lowered vehicles) for that part. There is so much to see and learn about what happened here, it is an eye opener. No cost to get in but you can donate and it is definitely worth donating.
Jessica Rebhahn — Google review
Whoa. Wow. Manzanar National Historic Site did a brilliant job of covering this depressing yet important part of American History. The visitor center museum is enlightening and set up very well. It is very interactive and informative. There is a driving tour and replicas of living quarters, a school building, and a mess hall. It is rather incredible with the whole place being under the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. The video is well worth watching - it shows how the Japanese American people managed to beautiful the area and keep their spirits alive. - H 🌍

Very good maintenance and has a lot of information to learn about the history. The staff here are so nice and patient to tell you the pass. Think it is amazing to keep this historical site in such a good shape in the middle of the desolate and lonely desert.
Huiwen wu — Google review
Sad and moving to be in the actual barracks, mess hall, and classroom, to pay respects at the cemetery, to feel the shame of bigotry that persists. The historical context available in the original community building is balanced and deep and essential. The ranger and volunteer there during our visit were welcoming and informative.
Karen Kurokawa — Google review
We visited on a very windy day in summer. You could hear the voices of everyone who was forced to live there in the wind. The museum is well-organized and comprehensive. Clean bathrooms. Well worth stopping here.

Very educational with tons of self help aids to learn all about the experience of the people that were held here against their will...we were very disappointed that the visitor center was not open today
bnb soren — Google review
I've heard and seen of Manzanar on documentaries for years and have been wanting to come and see for myself. Well we finally made it and to me it was well worth the time to stop and visit even in 107 degrees. The historical value of showing how fear and racism could envelop a country, because of the color of their skin or shape of their eyes was a tragedy. Being there, reading their stories, seeing their pictures, looking at all the names of the individuals that were interned there was sad. I actually got choked up to know that our own government did this to this to their own citizens. They had to get rid of all their possessions and take only what they could carry on their backs... sad. Being able to tour and walk a little(because of the heat) of the camp doesn't do justice because there isn't much standing except replicas of a few buildings. But after seeing documentaries, visiting the visitor center, reading and listening to their stories gives you an idea what it felt like to be there. We walked a little, sat at some benches and just imagined what they must've gone thru, truth is we couldn't, it had an eerie sound when the breeze blew. We want to go back when it's cooler and walk the compound, yes it looks huge but that's with no buildings so you could only imagine what it looked like with the many buildings and over 10,000 people. If you haven't been there I suggest you do go, it really does give you a perspective of what fear does to people, especially in today's environment.

There is a lot of history here. Sad to read some of the facts and see how we treated Japanese people. It was a really well kept museum though. My family and I briefly stopped here on the way home on a road trip so I didn't see everything but it blew my mind to imagine 10,000 people in the little barracks. Worth the stop even for just a bit
Zumwalt Meadows is a serene and picturesque mountain meadow situated within the boundaries of Kings Canyon. This area is famous for its lush greenery and popular loop trail, surrounded by the grandeur of Kings Canyon. Although there was a portion of this two-mile loop that was reportedly closed, visitors can still enjoy an easy walk along the riverbank, with low elevation and flat terrain making it accessible to all.
This was a beautiful, diverse trail that starts in the parking lot, walking across the bridge, trees, rocks, and then the view of the meadows. We went two days after Labor Day and it wasn’t busy. There was an unexpected thunderstorm when we got to the meadows and decided to cut our hike short.
Catherine Hunt — Google review
At the end of the scenic byway at Kings Canyon National Park, you'll find this meadow.
I was surprised at the lack of hiking at this national park, so we definitely wanted to stop here and walk around for a bit.
There was supposed to be a two mile loop, but it the sign said part of it was closed. We didn't see it closed, but we did get to a point where we weren't sure where to go anymore, so that's where we turned back.
The trail is along a river which is pretty. You're at a low elevation and the trail is flat and easy. The surroundings are pretty though and there's some nice mountain views.
If you're passing by, I think this is a good place to get out and explore for a bit.
Jacqueline Telljohann — Google review
You have to check out Zumwalt Meadows! There is a super cool boardwalk that goes through the marsh. It's an easy walk and not too many people on it.
Steve Maggio — Google review
The loop is closed at the meadows. But you can still do the quick 0.3 mile hike from the parking lot, over the bridge, and to the meadows then turning back around.
Dogs are not allowed on this trail. There are lots of people and rangers in the area.
M L — Google review
Absolutely loved this trail! You just have to go and explore it!
Rafe O — Google review
Stunning scenery and a bear sighting if lucky. Took a dip in the river to cool off from the mid-July heat. The loop is still closed, but you can still access the end of the meadow via out-n-back.

The most peaceful place on earth. We spent some time on the wooden bridge and enjoying the river. You'll pass both along the short path to the meadow.

Kings Canyon National Park boasts a diverse landscape that is perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking. The park features enormous trees that are especially breathtaking in the winter season, but it is important to bring high-quality snow chains during this time. While some areas of the park may be closed due to fire and weather conditions, visitors can still enjoy Grant's Grove and take in the scenic drive.
Gorgeous park to visit. Worth the extra driving time. Don't be deceived, even though it is right next to Sequoia National Park there is extra driving especially in the winter time, when some roads are closed. You can see Sequoias here and even can walk through a hollow tree. Less crowds than Sequoia NP. Bathrooms available throughout and a nice gift shop open on holiday weekends and in the summer. Totally worth going if you get the time.

One of the best place I visited on the planet. Really it's a must visit place in USA. The views are special, attractive, breath taking, gorgeous, amazing... Will be a trip of life time. The volume, quality, beauty of the nature is wordless here. The roads are safe, lots of stop or turn out options on the road. So can easily clock photos on this route. There are lots of camping ground options too.

Not as crowded as other nearby parks. Still some limited road access due to the winter washout damage. Well maintained and easy to get around. Many beautiful trails and beautiful views. The proximity to multiple parks makes the America The Beautiful passes well worth it.

We like Kings Canyon is beautiful and easy access. There are many areas closed due to winter storm. We like the Hume lake; there are many activities over there but, it’s a little bit difficult finding a parking space near the Sandy Cove so we park near the camp ground area by the lake.

My wife and I decided to visit a handful of national parks in January and February this year. We were expecting to run into snow and we did in Kings Canyon national Park. Other than not being able to access some high elevations due to road closures and the need for snow chains, we did see some pretty cool stuff and had a great time. Photos of general grants tree don’t do it any justice at all. Great place to visit even in the winter but again bring snow chains if you can.

Absolutely stunning. Especially with the snow in the winter. Definitely bring GOOD snow chains if you go around this time of year but it's a whole different experience than the spring or summer. Parts of the park are still closed because of the fire and weather but you can still see Grant's Grove which is enough on its own along with the scenic drive. The Sequoias are amazing to look at and getting to walk through them is a really impressive experience.

This is a great place to visit, the place is really clean and everyone seems really nice. There is a few restrictions about having your pet. Some trails you cannot take your dog on. And I highly recommend doing some research about getting a campsite, because they have no phone service at all, and no internet. What they do have it's extremely slow. So definitely plan ahead before going here.

My visit to Kings Canyon National Park in the fall of 2021 left an indelible impression of natural grandeur. The towering giants of the forest, adorned in hues of redwood and fall foliage, created a mesmerizing spectacle. The sheer scale of the trees, including the iconic sequoias, instilled a sense of awe and reverence for the beauty of the natural world. The fall colors added a vibrant touch to the landscape, enhancing the already breathtaking scenery. The tranquility of the park, coupled with the majestic presence of these ancient trees, made for a truly immersive and unforgettable experience, highlighting the unique allure of Kings Canyon National Park during the autumn season.

Really beautiful and a great camping experience.
We stayed at the Sunset Campground, close to the Visitor Center. The restaurant at the visitor center is a great option to see around the park and quickly grab food.
Check out the Hume lake area, General Grant Tree, Gremlin cabin, Michigan Tree and the Panoramic Point during sunset for great views of the park.
Sequoia NP is a short drive from Kings Canyon NP and is a great option to check out the next day on a camping trip 🏕️

If I could give it ten stars I would. This is a must see park. The Giant Sequoias are incredible. The General Grant tree is the main attraction, but so many others are equally as stunning. Walking through the canyon feels magical with the light filtering through enormous trees that are 1,500 plus years old.

We went on Nov 29, 2023 from Los Angeles, about 4 hour drive with on/off traffic. We took our dog, although the NPS website has a few dog friendly trails, it's hard to locate them. However we were told it's okay to walk our dog on the paved area and camping area which our dog really enjoyed. It's not our first time here, and we e joy coming to sequoia and kings canyon. A lot of things and places are closed during this season due to low traffic and the weather, but the nature is definitely beautiful and this place is a gem. I recommend this place to anyone that hasn't been here, and it's worth buying the annual pass/national park pass. Restrooms were extremely clean, friendly park rangers, nice fall colors and plenty of water of stream. Don't forget to fuel up before coming up, and always good to bring extra snacks/food, not many options up there. It's even good to bring a sandwich or two from subway/mcdonalds near by, and always carry extra water.

Lovely park - even though the actual Kings Canyon was closed due to a road closure (October, 2023). Panoramic Point was especially lovely at sunset. Grant Tree was a nice easy walk but the adjacent trails were just as lovely and with no crowds.

Lovely national park. I can certainly place this in the top 10 national parks (maybe not in top 5). The sequoia trees are a thing of beauty and awe here. I was lucky to see some deer crossing by the road. The Grant tree is definitely the highlight. That will certainly get anyone mesmerized.

Beautiful park, visited the last week of April...still some snow and roads closed. If you wanna hike, make sure to call regarding trails, may need cramp ons and snow chains for vehicles!

I love our nation's national parks. Every American should have the right to see and visit this country's national parks as taxpayers. Happy to see my taxes go to supporting this type of endeavor, instead of sending money to other countries to spend on their arsenals.
King's Canyon is close to Fresno, I thought it was easily accessible. Unfortunately the road into the canyon itself was closed, though some of it is viewable from the Sequoia side of the park. I visited the Sequoia containing parts of the King's though and thought the General Grant tree was cool. Hiked around the area for about 4 hours.
Unfortunately this part of the Sierras collects a lot of pollution from elsewhere in Commiefornia but I still enjoyed it.
The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center is a natural preserve that offers seasonal tours to view some of the world's oldest living trees, which are located over 10,000ft above sea level on the arid White Mountains. The forest has trails and picnic areas for visitors to enjoy and explore, but no access to water. The highlight of the visit is viewing Methuselah - an ancient tree that is around 4700 years old.
This hiking and visitor center is about an hour off of 395 but well worth the drive. What a beautiful place to relax, eat something and take one of the many hiking trails.

Our favorite park on the 395 South. The stars are bright, the air is clear and fresh, the ancients are enthralling. Be sure to camp, spend at least three nights and wander the trails. On foot is the best, but also a cycling paradise. Nearby is Lonepine, Independence and Bishop. Good for resupply and each with its own charm. But up in the mountains, is where you'll find real sustenance for body and soul!
Gustav Erlank — Google review
The visitors center was closed but the park was open for viewing. Do the hikes, take your time, and enjoy it. Every time I thought I'd seen everything the trees had to offer, they'd surprise me again.

Great family adventure! The Methuselah trail is a great 4 mi hike through the 5,000 year old trees. Great views of the eastern Sierras on the way up and a great view toward Death Valley while on the trail. It’s at 10,000 feet, so take your time. They have toilets open year around. Bring food/snacks with you. Enjoy Bishop and other fun hikes while you’re in the area.

Fast climbing windy road, starts at about 4000ft. up to 10050ft. at the Shulman Grove and Visitors Center. The trees are awesome. They are definitely unique and striking in appearance. There are a few different hikes depending on ability and time. We took the Discovery Loop, it is right about 1 mile and took about an hour with stopping for photos and to read the many plaques along the trail. It is dog friendly so we were able to bring out little guy, he enjoyed the trail and found plenty of new smells. The Visitors Center has a lot of information about the trees, geology of the region, and Edward Shulman who discovered the ages of the oldest trees. There is a nice little gift store with some cool unique souvenirs. A little off the beaten path but well worth the effort.

Beautiful ancient forest of these twisted and gnarly wonders of the world. Have a good strong vehicle as the road to get there is steep, winding, and sharp turns. It's hard going up, and hard coming down on your vehicle, but worth the trip! These trees are thousands of years old! It will blow your mind the way these grow! If you love nature, and a good hike this is the spot!

It is in the remote area in California. We visited here when we drove along HWY-395. It is paved road from Big Pine to the visitor center. The discovery loop is next to the visitor center and it is modest trail. You can see the oldest trees in the world here. It is really amazing.

Lovely visitor center with lots of information. The Methuselah trail has beautiful examples of art in nature, with the twisted trunks of the ancient trees. Groves of flowering mountain mahogany and other high altitude flowers even in September. Astounding views of the Eastern Sierras and the Death Valley. You also get to see many geological variations from dolomite to limestone.

It was amazing to see such ancient trees, some of which have been around for more than 4000 years. The trail is quite short, about 1.5 miles but the views are spectacular. Be careful if you visit during the winter since the road to the site is not properly maintained.

Access to this park is a long, gravel road but worth the drive. The ancient trees are amazing to see for yourself. The Visitor's center was closed when we went but there is plenty of information around it and along the trails.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable about little facts that weren't even written down. The shop was fantastic with many little treasures of history. Make sure and ask about the bank vault that is in the merchandise shop. The whole town is so neat to see how far they came in less than 100 years. From the railroad Western Union to the beauty parlor complete with a hearse as well. You could probably spend all day here just reading and looking at all the little things that made a town a town. The museum curator also said there was a turntable that was so well balanced four men could move an entire road car 180°. It's amazing to see all of the different hardships that these pioneers overcame and what all the railroad meant to our nation! This is a great museum!

Amazing museum just outside Bishop. There’s something for everyone here, train lovers, mining buffs, antique collectors, you name it, they have over 30+ displays throughout the property. Easily plan for a hour here, or more. The gift shop is top notch and they have clean bathrooms. Admission is a donation.

Quite a nice outdoor museum. Lots of exhibits related to early settler life in the Owens valley. The train ride is on a diesel powered rail car. The car was restored by volunteers with some incredible skills. The ride is about 15 min long. Be forewarned about half of that time is spent sitting still while a switch is moved. Our favorite exhibit was the mining and milling. There we got a tour from a gentleman who's name I believe was Jay. He is truly "a man who knows his arse from a hole in the ground"
If you can, take his whole tour from shaft to assay. Jay has aa amazing amount of knowledge regarding mining in the Owens valley. From him we learned about the Tungsten mine up Pine creek behind Mt Tom. Beautiful hikes from the trailhead.

Giant perfectly preserved train depot, combined with a western movie set, with room after room filled with incredible details from a bygone era. This place is so charming, interesting and you can even climb up into the train and ring the bell. I guarantee this place will surprise you and is well worth the 10$ recommended donation. Give more if you can-let’s keep this place alive another 100 years.

Very well maintained little historical railroad museum that feels more like an old western historical town featuring a lot of equipment from the late 1800s. If you are interested in gold mining demonstration, industrial ore breaking/extracting machine, you will be glad to see their equipment. Lots of historical displays: apothecary, blacksmith's house, library, miner's house, restored train station, doctor's office and more.

Stopped here after a nice hike. This museum is one of the best antique museums we've ever been to. All the exhibits were amazing, informative, and full of history! All the workers were really nice and helpful. We were fortunate enough for a worker to show us how the mining mill works. He turned it on and everything. He showed us multiple minerals and ores. He even gave my daughter a piece of Obsidian. I would definitely recommend this museum for all visiting Bishop!

Beautiful lake, it's one of the most accessible lakes in the Mammoth area since you can drive right up to it. I recommend walking on the trail that wraps around the lake, it's pretty flat. Decent amount of parking here, but most of the spots do get filled.

No matter what time of day you come, the view is always beautiful. Trail is open but for safety, take the North shore trailhead and avoid the Fisherman’s trail since it’s an avalanche prone area (as one local informed). There is a porta-potty near the marina or a restroom and showers at the resort. The marina is closed for the season.

It's hard to describe the utter clarity of this place. The air is clear, the water is ipecably clear, the view of Mount Laurel positioned over the water is clear, so much freshness here one kind of wishes it had a different name. We visited in mid September, almost exactly 151 years since the 30 convicts traveled 139 miles to get to this refreshing spot, after robbing a train of $41,000, stealing guns, and killing an 18 year old Postal worker on his first ride. After a shoot out at the lake most were captured and killed and hence the name. If you take the beautiful trail around the lake you start to realize the only real way out is over the mountains, and that's not a climb for the faint of heart. This truly is an amazing spot. Photographing the water reflecting the mountain, the two are indistinguishable.

Mammoth Mountain is a lava dome peak that rises to 11,059 feet and offers both winter skiing and summer biking activities. It is a favored destination for skiing in California due to its picturesque location with terrain suitable for all skill levels. The top ridge of the mountain provides great skiing opportunities for highly skilled skiers during the main winter season. Even during late summer, the entire top region of the mountain was open, making it an exceptional experience.
It was quite a beautiful hike in mammoth. You will see the pristine mountains, beautiful lakes and green pines everywhere. You go in a winter for skiing or in summer for hiking and biking, it’s so much of fun and natural.

This was my first time at mammoth and it was a wonderful experience!! Amazing trails and really fast lifts. The lines were pretty long at the base and the backside, but the singles line was really fast on all the other lifts. Lots of terrain variety and runs, makes for a great time for all ski levels. Amazing views at the top too!! Highly recommend going here for your ski trip :)

Mammoth is my favorite mountain to ski in California, the area is beautiful and the terrain has something for everyone. The top ridge of the mountain is especially great for advanced level skiers and above. We were there for a late season (summer) trip and the whole top of the mountain was still open which was pretty amazing. The resort is very laid back and the village area is nice, we would love to go back to Mammoth one day during the main winter season. Needless to say, the family had an unbelievable time that will never be forgotten seeing that summer skiing is pretty rare! I highly recommend a visit there.

Mammoth Lakes is a true 4 Season resort. This last month had the most snow in the shortest period that I’ve ever encountered. The town of Mammoth was on it and cleared the streets and walkways quickly. As a matter of fact they worked 24 - 7 to do so. Wether it’s Summer , fall or Winter you will not be let down.

Their lifts really need upgrading. The old school lifts are just outdated. And then there are the crowds! Whew! But it's still worth it for the great epic runs. Please replace chairs 8, 14, 22, 20, 12.
Look out for Bronson. Ski lift operator. We met him at a few different ski lifts throughout the week, and he truly stands out. He is extraordinary. He's happy, engaging, and fun. He plays us music too. Thanks Bronson, for making our skiing even more fun.

Best skiing experience even when the conditions aren’t the best. Always sunny and the mountain is so big there is always somewhere to find good snow. The après ski seem is just as good as the skiing with tons of food options for all dietary restrictions and enough drinks to last your visit. Nothing better than loosening your boots at the end of the day and soaking up the sun while sitting at the base of the mountain watching the sun go down. It can be a bit of a travel day coming from the east coast but now you can fly directly into mammoth saving you the drive from Reno.

Watch the documentary about Dave & Roma McCoy family on Mammoth Mountain. We are fortunate they pioneered this place when they did. The environmentalist's wouldn't allow something like this to be built today. Thank you McCoys! I try to only go here during off-season. I would have given it five stars if it wasn't so crowded. I started going here in the mid '60s. I have lots of fond memories skiing & backpacking in the '60s and '70s. I only lived here for 20 months but it seemed like 20 years. So may great memories. I miss the quaintness of the town & the friendly locals back then. It's been well discovered and they have built it up nicely. Parts of it reminds me of a European town in the mountains. I would tell you about all the amazing things to do in this town but it would take a book. Go there and you will not be disappointed except by the crowds, over fishing, and some of the costs but that's to be expected here in California.

Mammoth is the premiere ski resort in the lower forty eight, only surpassed in quality by Canadian resorts like Big 3 and Whistler. 3400 acres of wide open and diverse terrain. The staff and lifties are the best in the industry. Your only problems will be with other riders. Excellent parking and tailgating areas. Easy access to town. Extremely scenic views. S-tier resort on the overall, especially when compared to the rest of the offerings in the lower 48.

Rainbow Falls, situated in the Ansel Adams Wilderness, offers a picturesque view of cascading waters amidst verdant forests. One cannot park close to the falls without permission and must instead park at the gondola. To access Rainbow Falls, visitors can purchase a bus ticket for $15/person from the kiosk near the mammoth sculpture and take the last bus (at 3:00 pm) to stop 9. From there, one has to hike approximately one mile.
As a local I have grown up going to Rainbow falls, but this year it was special because my 4 yr old went too and he walked the whole way round trip! This is the best legacy and memories to leave my kids, beautiful views, clean air, loving our most amazing mother 🌎 earth.

Beautiful hike and the fall is spectacular
The best part of the hike is the drive through the Inyo forest . The road is narrow so be prepared to stop
We reached here around 8:00 am and the parking lot was almost full , there are about 25 spots or so
Towards the fall the hike is downhill
The hike is around 2.6 miles round trip
Bring water as it gets warmer during the day
You can go all the way down to the falls there are some steep stairs— but definitely worth it

Remember the shuttle stop stops at 3 pm in stop #9. But you can walk back to stop 10(red marrow resort) to catch the bus back at 7pm.
This waterfall looks better in the afternoon and evening when more sun shines on it, which is ever more important to remember the bus schedule.
In terms of waterfall goes, it pleasant but far from spectacular. I don’t regret going but won’t be longing to return either.

Stayed a week in Mammoth and this was my favorite by far! What an incredible, magical place! My husband and I would have stayed all day if not for our teens complaining LOL
The hike was mostly flat. There were a lot of stairs to get down to the waterfall but it was manageable.
The second lookout is good spot to take pictures and obviously at the base too.
We couldn’t figure out how to get a picture of the rainbow and the waterfall. It was one or the other. It was partly cloudy day and it was before noon, the sun behind the waterfall. Nonetheless, an absolutely glorious place with beauty in all directions!

A more challenging hike than devil's postpile and three times as long (about 1.3m) this was definitely worth the time. It took us an hour and 20 minutes total with the time we spent there. My 5 year old went with us but got quite tired on the return trip and I did carry him on my back a bit. The falls are very beautiful. We came in at 6:30 so parking wasn't a problem and it was actually a bit chilly. Much better than fighting crowds and sweating!

This is the best waterfall I've ever been to (including Niagara)! Having never been here, I didn't know what to expect, the falls are much higher than I had expected, 101 feet! Although we were there late August, there was still plenty of water gushing. And best of all, there's an easy stairway to climb down to get to the stream at the bottom of the falls where you can wade, or (if you can handle the chilly water) swim under the falls. 100% worth it. And the hike from Devil's Post Pile is pretty easy.

There is a fee to get into the general area that you pay at the Department of Forestry shack that is posted there. Parking lot 10 is where you want to head to which is easy to get to since it will be the end of the road. A map will be given to you anyway and Google maps takes you right to it as well. Enjoy the scenery because there is nothing bland about this drive. The views are stunning. However, the road is narrow and you must watch out for incoming traffic. Once you get there, the hike is not very bad. You will hike for about 15 to 20 minutes to get to the falls. Surrounded by tall pine trees, grassy hills, and the smell of nature, it feels as if you are walking back in time. As you get closer you can hear the falls, which is a neat little detail. As you arrive. There is a "look out" point where you can appreciate the falls and its entirety as well as the rainbow it produces. It is best to visit this place when the sun is at its highest. You can get close and personal with the falls as well. There are access stairs that will take you all the way down to the falls and the creek. Although highly discouraged, you can swim near the falls , just be very careful not to get too close. Natives in the past use to frequent this area and you feel some connection. I highly recommend it follow me and my adventures ig @SinAguayo fb:Sin Aguayo

Can’t drive down to the falls and parking without permission. Need to park at the gondola. Near the mammoth sculpture there is the kiosk to purchase the bus ticket $15/person. Rainbow fall is at the bus stop 9 (last bus at 3:00pm). So plan to go early in the morning. At the bus stop need to hike about 1 miles. To go back, follow the bus maps and walking to the bus stop 10 (shorter than go back to bus stop 9), and there is a small shop to buy water, ice cream.
The Devils Postpile National Monument is a scenic location known for its distinctive columnar basalt rock formation, created through the forces of volcanoes and glaciers. The smooth, vertical columns are hexagonal in shape, resembling beehives. A short hike leads to the monument, but reaching the top to view the columns may be difficult for individuals with limited mobility. Additionally, there are hiking trails and a popular waterfall available for visitors to enjoy at this natural wonder.
Beautiful geological formation of crystallized basalt lava. Very accessible trail for everyone, seniors, children and handicap. Be sure to take the trail to the top of the formation. Looks like a tile floor! Very impressive location with a lot of beautiful photo opportunities. It's near so many other key destinations that you have to make time to see it.

A must see if your in Mammoth. Great Hike to Rainbow falls. Go early because the temps are in the 80's during the day. Bring water and electrolytes. You need to take the Tram in witch starts at 9am. If you go before 7am, you can drive in on your own.

Getting there before 7 am meant we could drive all the way to the parking lot at the Rainbow Falls Trailhead. From there, it's a relatively easy hike (downhill going and uphill coming back) to falls. But I also recommend continuing downhill to the Lower Falls, where the river takes a major turn. It doesn't attract as many people, and it has plenty off-trail opportunities to explore.

It's such a beautiful place. We had to drive a very scary road to get there. Then we had to hike about half a mile. It was not bad at all, but it's just uneven grounds. Thank God for the bathrooms. You can also see the posts from the top. Which we didn't do because I had to run back to the bathroom. Maybe next time. Lol

This was a great choice for our 5 kids. It was a short hike 0.4m, and not too challenging. We were able to take the jogging stroller with only one area where tree roots made it a little difficult to get past. The monument itself is amazing. There is a challenging and not stroller friendly climb to get to the top and see the hexagon tops of the basalt formations.
Laken Brock — Google review
It's majestic and I have never seen anything quite like it. Important Note: there is no way around the mandatory shuttle (catch it at the ski lodge). The hike isn't much longer to stand on top of the columns, so if you are OK with some uphill, it's worth it!

Amazing, beautiful, spiritual! Be in the park before 7am to drive straight to the trail head. Any later then that and you have to park below Mammoth and walk up to get a shuttle to the trail head. Tickets for the shuttle are purchased in the shop at Mammoth resort, the activities area. $15 per person for the shuttle. There are also ziplines and practice sluice box where kids can buy a bag of dirt with gems in it. Best birthday ever!

Devils Post Pile is one of the few places in the work you can see rock bee's.. Kidding on that one but seriously kind of looks like bee's made it. These hexagonal rock formations are crazy to see as well as crazier that is natural. To get to the monument there is a short hike but to get to the top to see the columns is not best for those with limited mobility.

In reality I liked the Hike experience and Devil's Postpile Monument. But, I had to give 3 stars because of the Shuttle experience.
First coming to good part, the views were good, there was a stream along the hike and the monument was also good. We had a chance to spot some wild life too.
Take lots of water.
We cannot drive our own cars. We have to take a paid shuttle from Mammoth Mountain Adventure Center 🦣. The shuttle frequency was not great. Frequency was 30 mins and with big waiting lines over weekend. So, we ended up waiting for almost an hour to hop on the shuttle. We were fortunate to get a seat on the shuttle when going to the Park. But, on the return we had only standing room in the shuttle and had to stand with the kids all the way. The drive takes around 30mins one way.

I highly recommend buying the America the beautiful annual pass, however in addition to the entrance fee there's a mandatory shuttle fee ($10 per person) from mammoth lakes resort to the postpile parking. To avoid the mandatory shuttle you must enter the park before 7am!
Hiked to minaret falls, devils postpile and rainbow falls

Very sunny and bringing water would be a good idea. Wear shorts especially in the summer. It was a long walk but you can choose the amount you want. Bring a hat. There may be slipperly parts. Bus driver was friendly. Will give it a 4 because it was very tiring but thag was my fault

Amazing geological wonder that is accessible by a short, easy and dog friendly hike to the base of the postpiles from the Rangers station! The hike to the top of the post piles is a short moderate hike but worth it. You can also choose to continue the hike for another 4 miles (round trip from the postpiles) to visit the beautiful rainbow falls!
It’s best to get in before 7 am to beat the crowds and also to avoid using the mandatory shuttle bus from the Mammoth Mountain Adventure Center (costs $15 per person and there is a long wait to hop on a shuttle). The road to the ranger station is very narrow and windy. There is ample parking and restrooms.

Very unique rock formation with an easy accessible hike. The columns continue around the entire loop and you can see varying perspectives, which is very cool. Highly recommend doing the loop - easy hike.

Super nice! It's definitely worth the drive to see it! Highly recommend it!
There is a long drive from the national park entrance to get to the beginning of this hike. About 35-40 minutes. Once you get there, there is plenty of parking and a couple of portable restroos. Once you start the hike, in about 15-20, you'll get to the Devils Postpile area. There are a couple of waterfalls you can hike to as well.

The site is very educational. If you don’t have time to visit Devils Tower in Wyoming, you can visit here instead. Usually, people spend time in the bottom of the post-piles. There is a trail to the top. It is not hard and in the end, you can see all cool hexagons of piles.

The trail is highly accessible and fairly easy. Interesting rock formations. Clean area and restrooms around. Limited parking. You can hike to rainbow falls from the trail. Challenging hike. There are shuttles that go around but not sure about the path or where they stop. Did not see any around. Worth to stop by and go. Worth the hike.

Tioga Pass is one of the highest mountain passes in North America, with many trailheads to explore. The pass is also a scenic drive with amazing views of the mountains and lakes below.
Breathtaking scenery of Tioga pass in October. If you hate to wait in the line for NP entry, early morning is the best time for your trip!

A stunning drive over the mountain which at a height of nearly 10,000 feet, was quite literally, breathtaking! (Seriously, don’t underestimate the effects of increased altitudes if like us you’re from a relatively low-lying country. Drinking extra water does help though.)
The drive up just demands a number of stops to take photos, and the drive down into Yosemite is no different. We managed to get through before the first serious snows of the winter, but it’s always best to check if the pass is actually open as they don’t plough the road!
Just gorgeous!

Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve is a scenic area protecting the lake's unique limestone spires, wetlands, and bird habitats. Lee Vining, a charming town nearby, offers stunning views of Mono Lake and serves as a great base for hikers exploring Yosemite trails from the Tioga Pass Road. The area showcases remnants of ancient volcanoes surrounding the 760,000-year-old inland sea with no outlet to the ocean.
A beautiful and informative stop along the 395 highway. The visitor center was closed when we passed by, but there is a little nature walk and just a bit further there is picnic area with access to the lake, which is very interesting to see and learn about. Never knew what as Tufa was before! (See photos)

During my visit, the otherworldly landscape and unique geological formations, particularly the striking tufa towers, left an indelible impression. The Reserve's serene atmosphere and the vastness of Mono Lake create a sense of tranquility, making it a perfect escape for nature lovers. Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve stands as a testament to the captivating beauty that nature can sculpt, offering a memorable and educational journey for those who appreciate the wonders of the natural world.

Beautiful place, great for photography. Be cautious walking closer to the formations, the ground is like quick sand and slippery, lots of flying bugs. I took a funny tumble when my leg sank in. My best friend had her fair share of laughs. Definitely don't wear your favorite shoes lol

Really good visitor center included just right length movie theater, great interactive displays, photos and tons of info. Nice easy trails with lots of signage and story boards. Instead of the 1 mile each way hike to the lake we went to the State park and paid the $3 parking to shorten the walk and still got a full measure of it all. Great experience!

A strange but beautiful lake - in the desert wasteland, with extinct volcanoes on one side and the high snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada on the other. One time the lake is deep blue and the other time it's pea green, it's salty and yet like sugar, dead and yet full of life.
Petr Divis — Google review
Incredible scenery! Well worth the stop to stretch your legs while driving the 395. Tip: Bring lots of water for yourself and any four legged friends. The trail between the lower parking lot and visitors info center may only be a little over 1 mile but the climb feels much further due to the heat and wind

This is a gorgeous spot! We stopped here a couple of times early June this year (2023). It was beautiful and sunny the first time, and pouring rain a few days later. It was icy blue color on the sunny day, but looked dark green on the rainy day.
There’s plenty of parking (costs $5 at the machine and ticket must be displayed on your dashboard) and vault toilets.
You can walk straight down from the parking lot or take the pathway on the right further out to the taller tufas. Photos are from the area you reach when walking straight down the trail next to the pay machine.
There are many flies that live here, but they didn’t seem interested in buzzing around any people!

Easy access to the Lake and walking path. Not far off the main hwy. There are bathrooms and a paybox, $3 per car to park and explore. The walking is not difficult, but can be muddy by the lake so your sandals may not be the best choice👍🙂💜

Wow - such an amazing experience to kayak among the Tufa. The water here is more alkaline and salty than the ocean and has such a cool color as a result. Like nothing I ever have seen or experienced. Such a contrast to the area that surrounds it. The Tufa rise above the water and provide a maze for kayaking within. It is a nesting area for Osprey and we could view and photograph them from a safe distance. I highly recommend a visit, even if you do not go out on the water.
Dawn (We Always WAnder) — Google review
The lake here feels mysterious somehow.
Maybe it's because Mono Lake is an alkaline salt lake.
Located at the east entrance of Yosemite, this is a nice place with a very special feeling.
Check carefully for weather condition first all the time before heading to here
Tioga Rd is the primary route through Yosemite National Park, providing stunning vistas of granite formations and lakes. It was constructed in the late 19th century as part of a larger effort to build roads in the area, with limited resources and challenging conditions. Mark Twain even praised the workers for their industriousness.
Bodie State Historic Park preserves a Gold Rush ghost town that is frozen in time. The park is located east of Bridgeport, about 7 miles south of Sonora. Visitors can walk among the buildings that date back to the Gold Rush days and learn about the way of life during this period.
Visiting from Australia, I always wanted to see a real ghost town in USA. This was a must visit place for us. Definitely a detour but we didn't at all regret this. Lots to see and take photos of so make sure you are prepared to get snap happy. You have to spend several hours here and not rush it to truly appreciate Bodie. Well preserved and looked after.
Helen Di Domenico — Google review
I love walking around historic sites and Bodie is no exception. Much bigger than anticipated, you can walk around between old buildings and enter one or two. You can look into the windows of most houses though and see what living spaces were like back then: Mainly super small... There is a jail, a barber shop, a fire station and a lot more. Highly recommended and worth the few miles drive on the unpaved road.
Volker Kueffel — Google review
A must do! If the road is open, go!! This place has been on my Eastern Sierra bucket list for ages and I finally got up there. It was absolutely worth it!
Pictures do not do this place justice. Firstly, it’s cash only for the entrance fee and the last 3 miles of the road to get there are gravel. Just be aware of this and drive slow to avoid creating a massive dust cloud.
As for Bodie itself, there are approx. 50 buildings still standing from the town including mines, houses, churches, a schoolhouse, and even a gas station. You can look inside the windows of almost all of the buildings and see artifacts from the late 1800’s onward. The buildings are kept in a state of “arrested decay”, meaning they are just falling apart from the point at which they were abandoned.
It’s interesting to note that the town once held 8,000 people and only 5% of the town is still there. California State Senators and even Herbert Hoover’s (US President) brother lived there!
All in all, the park has an eerie sense of peace to it. A bit haunting but a stark reminder of California’s founding. You can expect to spend about 2-3 hours here

Bodie ghost town was super impressive. I personally didn't realize how large it was or how well preserved it is. This town is so expansive you really need to make a day trip out of it. We stopped here on our way back from a day trip just 30 mins before closing. First, I gotta say the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They never told us to leave even though we stayed past closing. It was very cold so we really rushed through about the first 1/4 of the town with our 2 dogs before leaving. The structures are so well preserved, yet they appear to be left untouched. All of the homes and buildings we looked in still had very old furnishings and objects that were clearly degraded by time & elements. I personally appreciate that nothing appears to be restored...its very authentic, just how I would expect a ghost town to be. There was one home that you can walk into which was very cool. My fiance & I plan to visit again and spend a day here. It's an incredible place.

Always a nice time visiting Bodie! We spent 90-minutes walking through the town and reading some of the history.
It was a bustling gold and silver mining town for a few years and then they were all gone! That is exactly how it looks when you see it. Love the old buildings, trucks, and other items from years ago.

3 miles on a bumpy dirt road and you're transported to the gold rush era. This town is so well preserved you'd think it was a Hollywood movie set. The cost of admission is worth it, the history is so rich and you could easily spend HOURS here. I had my own ghostly experience while visiting, maybe you will too...

Great visit up here, though I discovered I have some issues with altitude, so beware, it is over 8000 feet. There are bathrooms with flush toilets. The gravel road in is a bit rough, even for a gravel road. Lots of old houses and buildings to wander around and peek into. A very desolate setting, and was quite windy when I was there.

After quite a bumpy ride you finally reach your destination. Give yourself plenty of time to walk around. Bring cash as you have to pay per visitor. Picnic area for that quick lunch break. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your camera. Make sure to go into the unlocked buildings to take a peek into what life was like way back when.

I’ve been wanting to visit this park for a while and finally made it. First lets start by saying that I drove from Reno, it was a nice drive with panoramic views along the way. Once you reach the Park’s entrance road, it’s over 10 miles of dusty unpaved road. It’s a bumpy ride, but beautiful. When you pay at the gate you’ll receive a map of the town that pints the name and functions of the main buildings and their location. Many of the buildings are closedown to protect them, their contents and the public. It’s a big park and it gets very hot make sure to take plenty of water and snacks if you plan to stay all day. It’s not too crowded, which is great when taking pictures.

7/24/22- we took the 270 off of the 395 which was paved until about 3 miles to the entrance, but the gravel road in this section was well maintained. The entrance fee is $8 per person plus another $3 for a self guided tour booklet. We arrived around 10:30am and there were already quite a lot of visitors. By the time we were leaving at 11:30am vehicles were circling the parking lot looking for parking spaces. There were a number of friendly state park rangers giving paid tours and maintaining the grounds. We would have liked to spend more time and taken the paid tour but did not have time this trip and next time we will try to come during the week to avoid the crowd.

Bodie is a great place to visit and spend a few hours walking round. If you are staying in Yosemite, it’s a good destination for a day trip along Tioga pass. It is really interesting to see how people used to live in the last century and get some idea of what life was like is such a remote location.
It’s amazing that so much as survived intact and its great its now a state park. I am sure kids would love to visit a ghost town.

Decided to go here after seeing the Road Open sign on 395. When we were in the area in June, it was still closed. I would say it is “must visit” while in the area. It was fun to walk around and look into the abandoned buildings. Entry fee is a reasonable $8. Another plus is the super-clean bathrooms

When I went January 27th there was no snow on the road in right up until the parking lot. This town is so amazing! You can peer in all the windows, and I recommend grabbing the 3 dollar walking brochure so you know about each building. If you can stop here you should, it's such an interesting part of US history, and California history! Since it was winter time we only saw one other person, a worker, no one else. It truly felt like a ghost town! Check cal Trans website for road conditions. There is also a sign at the turn saying if the road is open or not. The final few miles is all dirt, but if no snow definitely doable in a 2 wheel drive

I love the desolation feeling coming out here. The road out is well taken care of, some washboard is all you deal with once you hit dirt. Very cool walking around the ruins of a town from the early 1900s. Some rooms still untouched from the day the residents left. You can go inside a select few. There's a nice museum doubling as a gift shop too. Worth the trip! Roads continue past the town into wilderness I'd love to check out in a 4x4

I visited Bodie State Park on Sunday. When you turn off 395 to 270, it's 13 miles to Bodie State Park, and the last 3 miles is a bumpy dirt road.
The park fee is $8.00 per adult. Pull forward up the small hill to the parking area with a couple of handicap parking areas, but the lot is sort of small, and there are quite a few front parking spaces, located in front of the large restrooms.
After you park, if you head to your right down the paved walkway, you will be heading to the main street (downtown bodie). To your right is a barn where you can sit and watch a 28-minute video of the history of Bodie. Across from the barn is the church.
It is best to bring a sun hat/ cap/ uv umbrella, water, and perhaps a snack.
The walkway does have slight inclines, and some houses are dirt paths through weeds, brush, and uneven terrain. It's not advisable for strollers or wheelchairs unless you are up to 4x4.
There are buildings that have collapsed with danger signs posted. The rangers are available if you need help or have questions. Don't try to sneak in after hours. The rangers live on the premises.
Marshall and Parker are very helpful and friendly. It was great talking with these young men. I'm looking forward to seeing them next season.

If you like history, Bodie offers a chance to see it in as close to it's original form as possible. The buildings are maintained in a state of arrested decay. Some are in very good condition, others slowly succumbing to time and harsh elements. At 8,300,' in wide-open high desert, it gets warm in the summer and can be covered in several feet of snow in the winter. The main road in off Hwy. 395 is paved for the first 10 miles, then hard-packed dirt for the last three. Any vehicle can do it, but the dirt section is washboarded. Slowing down is easier on your suspension and passengers. The cemetery across the road from the town is a testament to the harsh conditions of the terrain and times. It's worth visiting while you're there. It's $8 to enter the park. They take cash, but as the sign says at the entrance station along the road, they prefer debit or credit card. The website says they offer tours of the stamp mill for an additional fee. The gentleman at the entrance station said they weren't offering the tour that day because they were short-staffed. I've seen it before. If they're offering the tour, it's worth the extra fee.

This has to be one of he best ghost towns left. Come see for yourself, you won’t be disappointed. Just know that the last few miles of the road to get to Bodie is not paved and a bit rough. You can make it in a sedan, but just expect some bumps.

One of the best ghost towns you will find, kept almost immaculate considering the time and weather the area experiences. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the region. I hit it on the way to Reno coming back from Yosemite via Tioga Road.

So amazing!! Well worth the drive. The road going in is pretty nice, the last portion is dirt but is very smooth.
It is self guided but when entering the park they ask if you'd like to purchase a self guided tour book that would guide you through the streets and tell you about each building. The book is $3 and well worth it. It is so cool to walk around the many buildings still standing and very well preserved. You could even look in some of the windows and walk into a couple buildings. I recommend arriving early because it fills up fast!! So many different paths to follow, could spend hours here! There is a gift shop and an indoor museum.
The history is amazing and so was the experience!

Nice park! Its a 10 mile drive back off of HWY 395, and the last 3 miles is a gravel road. It was a neat to step back in time and see an old mining town. Parking and restrooms modern and clean, very well maintained. The staff were friendly too! Some tips for when you go: Check out the video room to watch an approximately 25 minute film about Bodie, stop by the Museum to find out tour times of the restricted mining areas, do not bring a drone they are not allowed and Rangers will stop you from flying them around. The ground is a bit uneven in areas and steps on the homes are a bit higher than standard steps today, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Park entry is from 9am to 4pm, and closes at 6pm. Entry fee is $8/adult. Only the State Parks "Historian Pass" is accepted, not the other state park passes. A really nice booklet with maps and history of Bodie is also available for $3. Be sure to check the State Parks website for updates before going.
Thermal springs with scenic mountain views accessed by a dirt track with some camping.
We had a wonderful time visiting here a few days after a big winter storm. We had a 4WD vehicle + chains in the front tires, and the road wasn’t plowed but there were other tire tracks on the road. We were the only ones here for a while around mid-day, and then two other cars showed up as we were leaving. Definitely not crowded on a weekday in the winter! One pool was too hot, one was lukewarm, one was freezing, and one was just the right temperature (although shallow). I would definitely come here again in the off-season.

At Travertine Hot Spring you may choose to soak in the waters, the awesome Eastern Sierra scenery, the unique geological site or all three simultaneously.
It's only a short distance between the trailhead and one of the most popular bathing sites made possible by the hot spring, but there are several other locations to be found by hiking around the area which is also the best way to explore the topography and understand the curious geology.
Be sure to check the temperature of the water before plunging. At it's source the hot spring can be too hot to touch, though most of the pools range from hot-tub like temperatures to luke warm.
Located just south of Bridgeport, and just a mile off the 395, follow Jack Sawyer road to the parking lot, trailhead and restrooms. Jack Sawyer road is a mostly dirt road but is easy to traverse. Easily accessible hot spring are rare, so expect this site to be crowded on weekends, and expect a diverse crowd of people. Clothing is optional here.

Great RV hot springs despite 1.1 mile drive on graded road. A little rough, but not bad. Drove <5 mph. We are a 30 foot Tiffin Class-A towing Jeep. The road to the springs is bumpy, not suited for low clearance vehicles, but well sign posted and its obvious when you get there. There is a restroom at the parking area and 3 or 4 other cars there parked when we arrived.
The springs themselves are a bit hidden and not posted but the trails are clear. It took us 30 minutes of walking around before we found the best pool. The water was clear and really hot - almost too hot to get into.
Great little place for a stop-off and cool down.

A fantastic end of the road park. Limited space for parking, picnicking, camping(60~76 sites depending on conditions. NO FULL HOOKUPS). Reservations, on the state park website, are recommended throughout the summer months. Keeps the crowds minimal.
The hot springs and pool house are open tentatively on a first come first serve basis. You can walk up to the soaking pools which are drained daily and cleaned. You can see the steam from the ~147°F+ source which bubbles up into a catch basin to be cooled. Flowers abound through the meadows. Bears, coyotes, deer, and mountain lions frequent the area🐻🦌🐺🦁
Three trails originate in the park. Burnside lake/Charity valley, Hot Springs Creek waterfall, and Sawmill Creek trail(no longer maintained)
Burnside trail does connect to Charity valley trail outside the park 2.3 miles from the trailhead. Total distance 4 miles gaining 2300ft of elevation from the trailhead. 8 miles out and back.
Sawmill Creek has had multiple landslides and avalanches cover and or wipe away the tail. Unknown mileage. No longer maintained
Hot Springs Creek waterfall trail is 1.5 miles with little elevation change from the start to the base of the cascade.

These days it cost a lot more to swim at the pools but it's still worth it. Its $10 for about an hour and a half of swimming or soaking and that's because they shut down and sanitize everything before the next shift. The employees at the State Park are fantastic. Namely, Russell at the pools and Virginia at the ranger station. I went September 2020 and notice there's a plague warning for the park. Apparently the ground squirrels and chipmunks have been known to carry the plague. Frightening! But... Don't be frightened. I don't think I caught the plague so I think everyone's going to be okay. Just don't feed the wild animals.
When you go camping here your cell phone probably won't work. So if you want to listen to music you better save some to your cell phone so that you can listen to it on your Bluetooth speaker. I don't have Verizon so I don't know if that works out there. If you really need internet just drive to town and go to the library and you can use the free Wi-Fi there 2 help your phone work.

the campground is exquisitely glorious, however there are a few sites you don't want to camp at. Small, no level ground, not much shade. Most of them are very nice though. As for the hot springs pool experience, no thanks. Hiking there a see the natural springs was cool, but the bathing experience was a non-starter for me. In fact, the day we were there, they were shut down to the public indefinitely, until they could meet public health standards....don't let this deter you . The camping is exquisite

The most beautiful place I’ve ever been camping at! Super super cold at night so be sure to pack lots of warm clothes! The campgrounds are very clean and each space has lots of room for all the campers to stay comfortably.

Love the new reservation system. Fun to soak in the heated pool, and also cool off in the regular pool. I only wish they didn't start draining the pool for the evening before our time was up. But 1.5 hours is plenty to enjoy.

Lovely campsite and trials! Easy level and part of trail in handicap accessible! Hot springs and waterfalls. Ask local campgrounds hosts/ranger for more details on how to get tix for swim in hot springs/pool- first come first serve basis the day of.
Bathroom and shower facilities on site. Ice and firewood for sale.
No service! Might get a bar if your carrier is Verizon. Family friendly and fire pits available! This is Bear country so please adhere to their rules on how to properly and safely store food. Happy Hiking.

This is a park with beautiful mountain views, lush meadows, and great hiking trails. Dogs must be on a leash. One of the trails goes up to a cascading waterfall! The hot spring pools are closed now for repair. The campground is open and very popular, make reservations.

Rustic hot springs, emptied nightly, about 104 degrees.
Nicer cooler pool ( About 90 degrees ) to cool off in. Changing rooms with shower, good parking with great scenery despite the recent fire in area.

Camping is very nice. Large sites with picnic tables, Bear lockers, fire pit. Water faucets scattered throughout the site. No hookups for RVs.
Bathrooms have flush toilets. Some have token operated showers. Water temp is nice and hot.
There is a super nice trail that is worth taking to Burnside lake. But take lots of water. It’s 5 miles and 2000’ feet up.
The hot spring is also very nice. Make reservations to get a time slot of your choosing. Last slot of the day is 5:30. The 2 pools are small but accommodate 75 people total. There is one 70-80 degree one and another about 100+ degrees. Sit on the far end and enjoy the really hot water.

Nice campsites which are nicely spaced. The bathrooms are nicely kept. Flush toilets and token operated showers. Hot pools are not available at present. Takes at least an hour to get back to Tahoe if you are using this as a base for exploring
A perfect location during ski season as you can step outside your condo and ski right to the chair lift! Off season, it's located close to many amazing trails and Tahoe. There's a parking garage for residents. I didn't get a chance to explore the gym and jacuzzi.
Would love to come back to stay for several days and hike all the different trails with lakes and peaks. Then go sit in the jacuzzi after without having to drive back home a couple of hours.

This is a very good resort that has some terrain for just about everybody. They have a beginner area over in timber Creek which is a great place to start out and progressively work your way through greens and very easy blues. The main resort area also has a long green run and a huge selection of blue runs and black diamond runs. It can get extremely crowded on busy weekends however and lift lines can be punishingly long. I found most of the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful.

Great mountain ski resort. Reasonable daily ski lifer price compared to other nearby mountains. A large mountain, with many blue/black groomed runs, facing different directions, so useful if the winds came up in one direction, there were other runs to use to get into calmer areas to ski. Loved it! Plus there were hardly any queues or people on the slopes (mid February).

The drive into Kirkwood was great, as soon as you are on the Kirkwood grounds, the workers will assist you in parking your car. I would have given this resort 5 stars but the resort does not have as many amenities as some ski parks do. Also, we were told to wear our masks while eating indoors. Made no sense.

I’m ready for another ski season…Kirkwood Mt. Resort won’t disappoint. Wide open slopes with wide variety of difficulty to meet all different ski/snowboard abilities.

Kirkwood is one of the most extreme and exciting ski resorts. It has over 14 lifts and plenty of great runs to challenge yourself. The views are incredible from the top of Sunrise! If you are a beginner, I suggest going to Timber Creek and trying the bunny run. It’s short and easy. The only downside to Kirkwood is the parking during the weekends and heavy traffic. Other this is a great ski resort.

Kirkwood is a beautiful ski area with some great runs! It's nice because it is not near as crowded as Heavenly. Despite no snow in 6 weeks, coverage is still good. Parking can run short but they do have shuttle busses running.

Kirkwood is a magical place. Tucked away 45 minutes south of Lake Tahoe Kirkwood has all the amenities of a mountain resort but still manages to feel small and local. Known for its advanced off-piste terrain on the backside, deep powder, and the Experts Only “the Wall”, Kirkwood also has a very beginner-friendly learning center at Timber Creek. The main village has several food, beverage, and lodging options.
Be careful when traveling to Kirkwood during a Winter Storm Alert, as SR88 is known to close on both ends of Kirkwood preventing entry or exit. Don’t get caught there in a big storm. Unless you have in-valley lodging, in which case, you might find yourself enjoying a private ski resort with tons of fresh powder and no lift lines.
Trevor Bentley — Google review
Kirkwood is about the mountain - its terrain, a balance of blue and black runs and an abundance of snowfall. Kirkwood attracts the loyalists who come to spend most of the day outside skiing and riding as opposed to the weekend tourists. Although the resort could use more high speed lifts and parking, the lift lines are tolerable on busy weekends and non existent during the normal week. If you are here to hang out at restaurants and bars and visit all the shops and cafes, you’ve come to the wrong place as there are a few places to eat and only one retail shop.
Patrick O'Donnell — Google review
It is hard to get in during snow storms, so always check Caltrans and figure out the road situation before you head in.
The roads into the ski resort is just a bit run down, tons of potholes, so drive slow.
I wish the parking is more convenient.
The terrain is just massive. And the mountains view is just magnificent.
The one day ticket is roughly about $150

Very cool mountain with a lot of drops, gorges and steep slopes what helps for beginners stay out of the advanced ski areas. We’re here there when it was snowy and it was amazing experience.
Kirkwood has many cozy cafes with fire places and stuff.
All services is not expensive for these impressions.
The best in Tahoe!

Great skiing, loads of snow and varied terrain. The staff were friendly and helpful giving the whole place a very relaxed and playful vibe. Not too busy even at the weekend and definitely worth a trip back to. Only complaint is there's a lot of slow lifts. Some fun spots to hike to and lots of cornices and gullies to play in.

Karkwood Ski Resort boasts remarkable slopes adorned with fresh snow, offering a diverse range suitable for all skill levels, from gentle green slopes perfect for beginners to exhilarating double black diamond trails for thrill-seekers.
The rental staff provides exceptional service, taking the time to ensure each visitor finds the perfect fit. Their meticulous attention ensures both comfort and performance on the slopes.
For those eager to learn, the resort offers both group and private lessons for skiing and snowboarding, catering to all ages from 3 years old to adults. The teaching staff prioritizes safety and individualized instruction, ensuring a rewarding learning experience for all.
Parking options include both free and paid spots, providing convenience for visitors.
However, one area of concern is the pricing of food, which is notably expensive. Items such as a veggie burger priced at $22, hotdogs at $10, and cocktails at $20 may seem excessive considering the quantity and quality offered. Despite this, the resort does provide a complimentary water refilling station, a thoughtful amenity appreciated by guests.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort, situated in California's Sierra Nevada, is renowned for its excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities. The resort boasts diverse terrain, challenging slopes, and a reputation for deep snow. Beyond winter activities, Kirkwood offers hiking, mountain biking, and scenic chairlift rides during the warmer months. It's a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking both adventure and natural beauty.

Ideal for beginners, this ski area offers multiple slopes with varying angles. It provides a great environment for kids to learn and enhance their skiing skills. There are two lift chairs. These take them to higher points on the mountain, allowing them to explore and practice coming down. I highly recommend taking a three-day lesson under the guidance of a ski expert.

Amazing experience! I had my first ever snowboarding experience at Kirkwood, and the staff was super friendly. I rented the shoes, board and helmet, and they were of good quality and fit me well. Our instructor (Alex) was amazing and super helpful, he was super patient with all of us, and made a point to call everyone by their first name from the very beginning, by the time we were done with our class (2 hours or so), our whole group was laughing and joking with each other.
The whole experience was amazing, and i can't wait to get back out there.

The skiing here was tons of fun and we were flying down the mountain. They seemed to have more runs open than Heavenly because of the snow, so it was exciting. Can’t wait to go again next year!
Tahoe's third-largest ski area with 2,000+ acres of slopes & 200+ acres of backcountry trails.
Visiting Tahoe in the winter was great! Took my first Ski lesson at Sierra-at-Tahoe resort which was the highlight of our trip. Its quite a well organized bustling place with many helpful instructors. The package included rentals for skis, ski-goggles, and ski-boots. Hope to come again!

One of the last resorts with a family owned feeling and price point. This is my #1 rec for anyone learning to ski or board. Amazing staff, constantly changing terrain park and some very sad burnt trees but still wonderfully rideable. Lines can be long on the weekends so make sure you get into the parking lot early before they fill up!

Absolutely love it! Amazing and helpful staff. They don’t try to push you into buying stuff you doing need!
I started my skiing journey here! I wouldn’t have stuck to it if it were for the supportive and encouraging members of the staff! Will definitely return next season.
The rental process is simple. There are a lot of stairs, so just be careful about that. Maybe it’s just something I’ll get used to.

The ski runs are nice. But I give it a 2 star due to the lack of organization when renting gear. Took an hour plus for me to get set up with a snowboard even with an online reservation. Then on top of that my the straps on the snowboard were to big but I was told they were good fit.

Chris at the repair shop is incredibly helpful and helped out with my purchase with outstanding customer service. The mountain is beautiful, lines are short and move quickly, and there is so much wonderful terrain.
Great resort for beginners and there is more to discover as you improve.

My husband and I took Ski lessons here on Thursday, since both of us hadn’t been since we were teenagers, and had such a great time!! The lessons included the rentals, which is such a great deal, and lasted 2.5 hrs - nearly twice as long as some other nearby resorts per my research 🤓
It was super easy to get to, and the free parking is still super close to the check in kiosks and rental store!
Everyone in the store was so friendly and patient with slightly lost beginners, and we had plenty of time to get our boots, skis, a locker, and a quick snack before our lesson started!
With covid precautions, they’re only doing private lessons, so you end up with a truly impactful one on one experience! Cheryl, our instructor, was AMAZING! I’m a bit scared of heights/not knowing how to do something, and she taught us the “basics” in a way that made me feel like I finally understood what I was doing. She made sure to keep with our comfort level but encouraged us to push ourselves, and by the end of the lesson I didn’t want to stop!
I HIGHLY recommend Sierra at Tahoe, not only for a great lesson, but the entire experience, especially the incredible snow! Plus their Sugar n’ Spice ski trail looks amazing so we will definitely keep practicing to come back and try it!

Nice skiing location with lower lift tickets prices than nearby ski resorts. Resort is accessible half an hour drive from pith Lake Tahoe. View of Lake Tahoe at top of mountain is very good, and there’s a restaurant at the top. It’s a good place for beginner and intermediate skiers.

I have not been to many ski resorts... Maybe 3-4 ski resorts in the Tahoe area. However I must say that this is the best that I have been and it is a great ski resort for all levels of skiers and board riders. Many different levels of courses and even free style slopes! Very nice and I made this resort as a home resort for next season!

A very good ski resort located off highway 50 and is easily accessible. As they say in their website, this is the closest major ski resort from bay area and it is true. You can get here in 3:30 hrs from San Jose with no major traffic.
The resort itself is quiet homely and welcoming to both thrill seekers as well as families. They have an excellent training program for both adults and kids and I learned how to board here. My son is in their ski school and they got him off to a great start on day 1 itself. The instructors are super friendly and quiet a dedicated bunch. Although I was in a group class, they made some to work with every individual in at least 3 runs, identify and fix any issues and help you move on to the next level. You cannot go wrong going here to learn how to ski or board.
The slopes are beautiful as well with many degree greens and quiet challenging blues and a few blacks. You can easily spend your entire season here without getting bored.
Additional advantages with this resort ... It is less crowded as it isn't as glamorous as squaw valley or heavenly, it's much more cheaper, and they don't charge your for parking. And on top of all, the entire staff is super friendly and really take care of your needs.

Sierra at Tahoe is the closest and cheapest ski resort when driving from SF; In my opinion it is ideal for day-trippers and beginners. There is limited commercial space on site, no hotel and only one ski shop. The ski resort covers a modest size and consists of only old chair lifts. While the lower slopes are quite packed with beginners the upper sections are relatively quiet which is nice. Food options are below average, so packing a good sandwich is the way to go! A nice views of lake Tahoe can be had from the peak. Not the best place for advance skiers or snowboarders, but generally decent offer especially for newcomers to winter sports.

I started my snowboarding journey at Palisades.
I love Alpine more than Palisades, and thought that was my mountain.
Sierra was amazing to finally experience.
And the signs leading up to the parking lot were a lot more emotional than I expected, in a good way.
Fire won't kill Sierra! It's an amazing place and I loved the long runs it provided, as well as the bountiful park features I indulged in.
Sierra might be my new favorite mountain.
I definitely want to get a pass next year.
I loved my brief time at Sierra, and want to experience more.

Went for a ski lesson and the instructors were good but the experience overall was really lacking. There were no clear instructions upon arrival, you had to scan a barcode but that wasn't obvious. The person checking you in for lessons didn't seem to know the process. 10 minutes after I checked in and was waiting for further instructions, she asked if I was returning equipment (I had literally just checked in with her 10 minutes prior).
The person who fit my equipment wasn't a skier and gave me boots that were 2 sizes to large, which I later found out from the instructor. He didn't tell me how they were supposed to fit, didn't ask how they felt, etc. I thought he was a professional and since I'd never done this before, I just trusted him. This affected the entire lesson. We were half-way through the lesson when the instructors realized that all 4 of us in the class had equipment that didn't fit, which made it a LOT harder to learn to control our skis. You can't control your ski if your foot must moves around inside your boot. The ski won't move since the boot isn't moving.
Overall it felt super unprofessional, despite the helpful instructors who did the best they could with our limitations.
The one nice thing is that the learning area has a chairlift so we got experience with that right out of the gate.

Family Private Ski Lessons
We stayed in South Lake Tahoe, but We booked our private family Ski lesson in Sierra At Tahoe Resort. Their schedule was much easier to work with in comparison to Heavenly Resort..price was about $300 less.
Our instructor , coach Debbie, was awesome. This was our first ever Ski experience, and all of us ( me and my husband just over 40 and our 7byear old daughter) were able to go up and down the slope multiple times after about 1 hour of coaching. I recommend this resort. It is usually less busy than Heavenly, prices in general are lower and the staff is also very friendly and helpful.

I came here several weeks ago as part of a work event (shout out to Nugget Markets!) and I’m still thinking about how great of a time I had. I arrived with no idea how to turn both ways and thanks to Joe B, who is an excellent instructor, I now can’t wait to go skiing again with my new skills! He was incredibly encouraging and gave helpful advice that built up my confidence. I highly recommend a private lesson from him!
The food is expensive, but the gear checkout process is easy and streamlined and all of the staff were wonderful, even going to the lengths of helping me pull off my boots at the end of our day. I hope to come back soon!

Bought a season pass here for the first time after multiple trips over the years. It was 1000% worth it. Buy it early for the best price. Always plenty of parking (get there EARLY on weekends /pow days) employees have all been great.
Food/beverages are pricey but pass holders get a discount. Chicken tenders & fries are $16 I think but it’s a pretty generous portion. Basket of fries is about $8. Beers run about $12 and cocktails are $16.
They also have a ton of events & live music on the weekends.
Views are great and the runs are long which I love.

Did a day trip from the bay on a beautiful day after a storm with some fresh snow! I got a discount code from Sports Basement, making my weekend/holiday day pass come out to $95. Definitely recommend doing that as skiing and snowboarding at a resort is becoming more and more of a luxury. The staff, especially food service, were very nice and respectful despite what I imagine they have to deal with on a daily basis. Also found a cool spot to park and drop in out of the parking lot to get to a lift.

Sierra is like a Phoenix that's risen from the ashes! The terrain, vibes and snowfall are still top notch. While there may be fewer trees now, it's all good. Skiing Sierra post-Caldor fire is such a testament to a community banding together post fire. Massive kudos to the team to make it happen. I've spent 10x the time at Heavenly and Kirkwood in my life compared to Sierra, but finally got a pass here and am quite stoked to get to learn another amazing mountain with abundant snow. Ski you out there!

Heavenly Mountain Resort is a vast and expansive resort located in South Lake Tahoe. It offers various activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and biking along with lodging and dining options. The resort can be easily accessed through the gondola located on Main Street with ample parking space available. Intermediate trails provide an excellent experience while the green ones can get crowded at times.
Heavenly is my favorite Tahoe ski resort, for the combination of terrain, access, and views. I don't love the California base, but the Boulder base and the Stagecoach base are easier to get up and down from. And Boulder has better parking. The lake views are the best, and it has a huge variety of terrain.

What an incredible experience! Well worth the price for the gondola and Tamerak to the top of the mountain, while we would have loved to hike - with the trails closed this was much easier and quicker and the views are out of this world. Some tips: The gift shop when you stop for your photo opportunity has some of the best items you can’t get anywhere else, if you see something you want - buy it. Be mindful of time of day for lighting. All of the pics we took are weird because of shadows and we are squinting. We did the gem panning and while it was cool and well worth the money as our daughter came away with a very full bag, it wasn’t what we expected- it was just a bucket of sand. No real panning for a surprise of the maybe / maybe not. Those working also couldn’t help with what was found, just referred to the sheet. Not sure we would do it again, but happy to do it once.
However that was our only semi not perfect interaction; The people working from check in to leaving was wonderful - great customer service with no impatience everywhere. Very impressive!! Would for sure do this again.

I took my family of four on the Heavenly scenic gondola ride. We spent an absurd amount on tickets, about $350, which was due to seasonal demand. We went in March but I'm sure summer prices would be much less.
The view was really nice going up the mountain, but once we got above the clouds, it was hard to see much of the lake. We had a great time anyway, and I recommend trying it during the snow season at least once. Just try for a clear day to make it more worthwhile!

Heavenly has been in business since December 15, 1955 and has 97 runs and 30 lifts that are spread between California and Nevada and four base facilities. Elevation at the peak is over 10,000 feet.
I was very lucky to live and work very close to Heavenly. The views from the runs and gondola of Lake Tahoe are spectacular.
The are also trails in the off season.
They have a slope for everyone from beginners to experts. Even if you don’t ski take the ride up the slope for the views.

I recently visited Heavenly Mountain Resort and the gondola ride up the mountain was a standout experience. It was likely the longest ride I've taken in the United States, offering breathtaking views as we ascended.
Admittedly, the cost of the ride at $90 per person felt steep, especially since I didn't partake in skiing or snowboarding. I simply went up for the view on a beautiful sunny day. Despite the expense, I must say, the experience was worth it. The panoramic scenery was simply unmatched.
The gondola has two stations where one can stop. The mid-station is a marvel in itself. It's a picturesque spot with a pleasant little walkway, perfect for soaking in the natural beauty of the area. There's also a cafe where you can grab a coffee and some snacks, which adds to the charm of the stop.
From the mid-station, the gondola journey continues up to the top of the mountain. The restaurant and bar at the top are fantastic, offering great food and drinks along with stunning views. It's a cool place to relax and enjoy the mountain atmosphere.
One thing to note is that the ride back down doesn't stop at the mid-station, so it's best to be prepared for that. Overall, the Heavenly Mountain Resort gondola ride is a memorable experience, offering incredible views and a unique way to experience the mountain's beauty. Despite the price, it's an adventure that's well worth it.

Big resort. And the gondola access is located in the Main Street (walking distance from our hotel) with plenty of parking. Intermediate trials are great, but turns little icy in the afternoon. Green trials are too crowded.
Overall, Heavenly has better snow quality than Northstar, and more convenience location, more options for food and entertainments.

A bit on the pricey side but it has a beautiful view of the lake! Its $63 just for the gondola. There is a second stop with other activities like a mini roller coaster but you need to but that at heavenly village before going up. It is a little colder at the top but there’s a gift shop with sweaters if you get too cold. One other warning, if the weather is bad they’ll send you back to the bottom with no refund. Ticket is also only good for one trip.

Beautiful place! The gondola ride up has amazing views. Super, super high.. so if you are scared of heights it’s going to be a long 2 mile ride up the mountain. The gondola does stop mid trek on occasion… actually stopped twice on us. It gets really windy up near the top of the mountain so when we were stopped mid climb it was a little sketch. Overall, great experience.

We went there to do some snow skiing and it was great. Maybe not as big as Breckenridge but very beautiful, and the altitude was lower, so that's always good. Not a destination resort. 1 star only because the view was great on Ridge Run. Everything else was terrible. Wind hold put half of the lifts out of commission (it wasn't even windy). Causing bottlenecks EVERYWHERE (Canyons/Gunbarrel lifts).
Lifts themselves were old quads. For the amount of people, these should ALL be 6-seaters. Facilities mid-mountain were old/needing renovation too. Got 3 runs in the whole day.

We just came to have dinner and experience the magic of the Christmas season in South Lake Tahoe. It never disappoints! Between the ice rink, the decore, cute shops for window shopping, yummy food, and best of all, the best Santa and Mrs. Claus I've ever met.
It was the perfect getaway to get into the holiday spirit

Another day in Paradise is how I see it! I go up often in the summer to hike up top since I live close by. If you haven’t been it’s a must do when you come to Tahoe. Its like it’s my first time every time. I am BLESSED!

Lots of terrain variety, great for intermediate skiers especially. The views of Lake Tahoe are amazing as well on trails like ridge run and skyline trail.
They have many high speed lifts although the queues can get quite long during busy weekends.

Rode the gondola! Great experience....wish we had time to hike around the top of the mountain before heading back down. Beautiful views of Lake Tahoe & being amongst the trees.

Went up to heavenly mountain resort for the 4th of July with my wife. She has never been to Lake Tahoe there was a huge fireworks show, and we rode the gondolas to the top of heavenly then rode the ski lifts up even higher now were on our way to the moaning caverns in Sacramento California.

I had a freak accident on my last run yesterday and ski patrol did an absolutely amazing job at helping me out. They were so professional, made me feel calm and got me down a very steep double black seamlessly. They also waited with me until my friends came. I really appreciate their help and for making me comfortable during a stressful situation 🫶

Absolutely breathtaking mountain! California Lodge has incredible views. Reliable grooming even in wild winter conditions. The trees are awesome, tallest I’ve seen thus far in my skiing journey. Tons of blues and blacks to choose from.
Courtney Hingst — Google review
We went there to do some snow skiing and it was great. Maybe not as big as Breckenridge but very beautiful, and the altitude was lower, so that's always good. If you want some great views, you need to check this place out. Of course food on the mountain was very expensive but unfortunately that seems to be the norm no matter where you go.

The views are certainly Heavenly and the mountain has tons of groomed blue runs along with great black trails. Not much green so keep that in mind. What is frustrating is there are very few maps anywhere and the trials are not well marked. Otherwise a 5 star destination not to be missed

Steep prices but it's totally worth it! The views of the lake are incredible! First stop up is an observation deck that gives an awesome opporttunity for photos. Second stop will take you to the different slopes as welll as the mountain stop restaurant & bar.

Hotel Harveys Lake Tahoe offers stunning lake views, gaming, dining and more. It's affiliated with the Harrah's casino chain and is close to Harvey's Lake Tahoe which has its own entertainment options.
The stay was excellent. The staffing was awesome at accommodating us to change a certain room we wanted. They were also informative. The check in and check out were also quite simple. There wasn’t any loudness and the rooms were clean as well as nice. Rooms were very comfortable. Definitely would recommended to my clients for stays!

Save yourself the trouble. The beds were like sleeping on a concrete floor. The heater in our room was not working, so it was 62 all night with a very thin comforter. The lights in the room were flickering, one completely turned off and stopped working. The room itself is super outdated, not close to what the pictures looked like. There was hair in the “clean” bedsheets. We thought about leaving home a night early because we were so uncomfortable. The rooms and hallways smelled of smoke. We were in the non smoking part of the hotel. We really wanted to enjoy our stay, there casino was great.

The stay was great! Rated overall stay as 5 stars due to the AWESOME service from casino table dealers. Liliana R, Leticia Q from Harveys were so friendly, helpful and extremely entertaining. Josie Dela Cruz (Harrah’s) was also very welcoming, helpful and had a great sense of humor. All the dealers were very welcoming and fun. I would definitely want to go back and be thrilled to sit with ladies even if I don’t win 😂

My wife and I stayed at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe. It was a convenient place to stay when attending a concert on their property. We paid over $500 per night ($1000 for two nights). We checked in late after the concert. Air conditioning didn’t work that night and we found dog food on the floor in the room the next morning. The Bathroom was rough. It was small, the paint was pealing all over the ceiling, and due for a total remodel. We complained and the front counter manager switched our room but refused to offer any compensation for the first night stay. We followed up with the hotel management when we returned home and they promised to look into the situation and get back to me. I never heard back. Tried them again and couldn’t get through. An apology would have been nice and compensation for the first night stay would have been better. They customer service is horrible. I’ll be staying at the Marriott next time.

I am not sure if this place received it’s 4 star rating upon opening or if people are being paid to review high but this place is not worth one star in my opinion. It is very outdated - walls peeling - lights incredibly dim - the room was so tiny it felt cramped . The bathroom was spacious but the bathroom door was clear not very comforting . Our room had a connecting door with no privacy - could see lights and hear everything. No door hanger to deter disturbances like cleaning team. The air hardly worked - I woke up multiple times a night cause the heat . The pool was tiny and not heated as it claims . Hot tub was not working - I specifically choose hotels for hot tubs or not . Beach lake access is down the street but it cost 25$ a person to go . Oh and Harvey’s has a 75$ a night fee as deposit and 26$ resort fee .. for what ? What makes this a resort ? This room doesn’t even have a fridge or microwave- it’s a money grab joke . If you like to gamble and love second hand smoke it’s convenient. I’ve honestly not had a worse trip . This place was a huge waste of money .

Stayed at Harveys Lake Tahoe for four days the week of August 21st.
Wife and I got a King room on the Tahoe side on the 16th. Floor.
Room had sitting area by the window, which overlooked the Lake. Room was in good shape, and the bed and linens were first class.
Towels were about a 7/10 on the softness side, but found nicer, newer ones at the pool.
Bathroom was large, with makeup mirror and stool for my wife, so that was a nice touch.
Pool was open until 10pm each night, and the fitness centre had every machine you would want to use.
Sports Bar has excellent burgers that we enjoyed our first night at the hotel.
Casino had a craps table which was good for me, and servers were attentive bringing by drinks on a regular basis.
All in all, expect a 3 star hotel experience and you will not be disappointed. This hotel is good value for what we paid.

Clearly the place is being renovated, I selected a renovated room. It was nice but an awkward closet and bathroom floor plan. The closet is right when you go in, a long wall, a door with a nice vanity, sink, shower, coffee station and another room with the toilet. A large toilet room. Pictures online are accurate. Very nice sunrise, nice view of the lake and mountains. I overhead other guests saying the opposite side rooms have a musty smell. I didn't smell anything where I was I at. I did notice the new toilet wobbled a bit, over the shower head on the left was what could be a leak. Visible only when the water was on. Oh an one the light bulbs was out. I didn't call to get it replace, I just switched it to the desk light. The Starbucks does not do the stars rewards. But I'd stay here again, maybe the fridge could be replaced, was not the best.

Check into the hotel on Friday staying thru the weekend, as soon as I walked into the room there's used face mask on the night stand, so I took one star out of review for that.
Then when I'm taking shower only half of the water is coming out of the shower head and another half of the water is coming out of the faucet, it took me a while to wash all the soap out, so there goes another star.
I went to the front desk second morning ask to switch to another room, and the room that I switch to TV remote didn't work at all, plus there's once I need to go down to the lobby the elevator won't go down after the door closed, so I have to jump into another elevator in order to get down to the lobby, there goes the 3rd star, I'm sorry but the experience that staying at this hotel casino is poor, I can only offer 2 star.
By the way the front desk personnel are very nice .

Ah, the charming quirks of our stay in South Lake Tahoe! Nestled right on the strip, our location was top-notch, mere footsteps away from the bustling array of restaurants and must-do activities. Our room, well, it had its own unique personality – featuring a heater fan that fancied itself a rock band and a sink that took its sweet time. The casino was a casual stroll from our door, perfect for a flutter or two. And for the kiddos? A fantastic game center to keep them entertained while the adults played their own games of chance. Location-wise, we hit the jackpot! No frills hotel stay.

I’m happy they added the ability to make a couple cups of coffee in the room. This was always a hassle when waking after a late night. The rooms have fridges, but no microwave, and are spacious and comfortable. Great location but we decided not to play tables as mid week afternoon minimum was now $25 for craps. Also, be aware that self-service parking is $17 per night.

Stayed here on their promotional deal of $99.00. Not a bad deal for a mid-week deal. Of course they add on the hidden taxes which bump up the total but overall not a bad deal.
The room itself was small and just large enough to fit 2 queens. Room is clean with no frills such as complimentary coffee or tea. The bathroom was clean and the floor tiles appear new. The hallways are somewhat narrow and the carpets could use a refresh but clean.
The restaurants are expensive and for what you pay doesn't match what your getting (my humble opinion).
Of course the gambling was the reason we came...... of course we left broke and licking our wounds.
I'm not a smoker so the smoke in the gambling floor was bad. Overall we had a pleasant stay.

The hotel room was clean and staff were helpful enough. Maybe it was just the off-season or staff shortages, but not being able to order room service or have a great way to redeem rewards points without walking next door was pretty rough. I went as part of a charter group with Caesar's rewards. I was working some of the time, so it wasn't possible to walk next door for breakfast. I did enjoy the American River Cafe. Otherwise, this was a pretty bare-bones experience and while the price was right, it wasn't worth all of the travel.

When looking online - I don't know who gives the star ratings for hotels, but it was listed as a 4 star hotel. Do not fall for this. The price (initially) looked good, then they added a $30 per day 'resort fee'. Yes they tell you that it covers the internet, workout room, etc... but why do cheaper hotels give you that for free.
When we came in to register, they told us we were staying in the Mountain View Tower (the older part of the building) and would we like to pay more for the newer side - I declined. Then I was asked (for our 3 night stay) if we wanted maid service daily - for an extra cost. I declined. Then I found out that even if we self park we get charged daily for that!
Upon entering our room, it was evident that is was in the older building and that any remodel might have been done in the 80's if not earlier. We had no refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker or kleenex. The flat screen TV was not that big. The air conditioning - which I turned down to 60 - never got that cold. It was barely cold enough at night in the room to have a comfortable night sleep.
To say the least, I was not pleased and will look elsewhere to stay on our next trip to Tahoe.

Pros:
-Fun arcade and Starbucks in the lobby.
-Lots of restaurants and shopping in the mile around the hotel.
-Newly renovated bathrooms.
-Decent view from upper floor rooms.
Cons:
-Dated rooms and hotel, even with the room renovations. (Wallpaper peeling in room, Room door wouldn't shut without slamming it, etc.)
-No nearby lake access. Definitely not within walking or scooter distance.
-Asked multiple staff for recommendation and did not get one. I ask "Do you know of any nearby hikes" Front Desk Employee "There aren't any in the area" No hikes in Lake Tahoe? Yikes!
Stayed 7 days at hotel and found it to be nothing special. Nothing necessarily bad but not worth the cost. Would not recommend.

Currently staying here. Room is filthy. Carpet has random bits all over it. Dust everywhere. Had to clean the toilet......some one else's poop on the toilet seat. And the room is rank smells like pot was grown in here. Having to pay for parking is a joke. Just spent over 5 hours on the casino floor dropped well over 1000 dollars and never even got a drink. Who do you have to blow to receive a damn drink. will never stay here again. Better rooms at a motel 6 and you won't get boned for parking.

Harvey's is a dated hotel, but overall is very clean and nice. The staff that we interacted with were very courteous. Our room was a classic king #1146 and it was clean and had a mountain view/golf course. Upon arrival we didn't have a remote control but housekeeping brought one immediately for us. The carpet at the entry door is in rough shape. We only had 3 coat hangers which is petty, but we needed more with 2 people for a week. Let me discuss the charges they add for the services that aren't provided. It's $20 per night for parking, $25 per night for a resort fee that I used zero amenities of the fee. You pay that and you get no housekeeping for an entire week. If you need anything you must contact them. Trash just piles up in your room unless you set it in the hallway. There is also a $75 per night depoit which seems high to me based on a 7 night stay. ($525) the casino was nice. The food at Joe's Restaurant was great. The parking deck is very nice. Would I stay again, maybe but definitely explore the other options in town.

Stayed 3 nights. The rooms are very good. But the room wasn't cleaned even once. The pool is heated. Sauna is great too. Had a terrible experience at Joe's BBQ place. Service is bad. Food is below average. Casino is good. Waitresses are friendly.

Beautiful and spacious room! We booked a premium king suite non-smoking and it was worth the extra money. Plenty of space to dry out ski gear, comfy and clean room, and huge bathroom with incredible walk in shower and water pressure. Great view of mountains and lake even on non-lake view side. 5min walk to every restaurant and ski rental place in heavenly village. Never waited more than 20 seconds for an elevator!
Cons:
- no microwave in room
- one towel had a large stain on it (but virtual concierge brought us replacement towels immediately with zero wait)

I purchased two rooms from this hotel for multiple nights and one of the rooms had blood stains on the sheets.
I went to the front desk to report this, and the front desk agent couldn’t have cared less. They offered to move me rooms or change the sheets.
I personally was extremely disturbed by this. I didn’t expect any issues with the sheets so I didn’t pull everything off and inspect before I went to sleep by morning time I was getting out bed and found huge blood splotches on the sheets that was absolutely not from me.
They don’t care, I would have expected a discount or something considering how they put me in a room with dirty sheets someone else slept in. I’m super upset and they didn’t care they just said oh wow I’m sorry I’ll get them changed.
That’s not good enough I spent a lot money and I expect them to make it right. Changing the sheets and a fake I’m sorry from front desk isn’t a solution. If you guys make a mistake like leaving blood stained sheets in a room I expect a refund of something.
BEWARE they don’t clean rooms well and they don’t make it right.

There is cell phone transmitters mounted on top of the hotel so any long term visitors or workers will likely develop cancer…. Then the games hardly anything is won there it’s awful about payouts I’ve personally never won anything significant there. Would not recommend. We stayed here four nights. The view from our upgraded room was very nice. The beds were comfortable. However when we called housekeeping to find out why no one had come to service our room we were told " we are not offering that service at this time". Not COVID so what the heck ? Couldn't believe it. We had to call daily to ask for the items that we needed. Corporate greed ? The whole casino smells like old man cologne and feels like the a/c is set on 80. We spent our time across the street at the Harrah's casino which was nicer.

NEVER AGAIN! Hotel staff entered room before check out while we were getting ready for the day.
I have been coming to Tahoe for years and I can truly say this is the worst experience I have ever had. Took a last minute trip with my boyfriend and paid for an upgrade room with a view. It was his birthday the weekend before and we were still celebrating.
Starting off valet staff are super friendly! But that’s about the extent of our good experience.
Upon checking in you can not find a staff member. We used a kiosk and headed to our room. Hallways were dirty with things on the walls and carpet was stained. All the doors have chipped paint and it looks really run down. For a recently updated room I figured maybe our room would be better, not the case.
What went really wrong was we had a member of housekeepings management enter our room, after only knocking, and waiting five seconds. It was 9 AM and check out is at 11. I wasn’t able to make it to the door. I was also in bed not dressed properly to have someone I don’t know in my room. I’ve stayed in multiple hotels in the Tahoe area. I have never had this happen. Not even at the motel 6. When I had somebody from the front desk finally call me, they said it’s just how we do things when I ask does it show that I am checked out they said no. But since people don’t always check out, she said they check on the rooms, we were checking out on a Sunday. There is no way that so many people are checking in on Monday that you can wait until 11 AM . They told me they would refund the resort fees for the inconvenience. After all we’ve experienced here, we will never stay again still waiting to hear from a member of the upper management to go over a resolution to this issue.

This place has turned into a dog hotel. Literally! I stayed in the Mountain Tower of the hotel for about 3 days. The hotel placed all the guests with loud barky dogs next to my room. Lucky me! One will check out and they immediately placed another dog owner next to me. No peace! My room looked liked a dog chewed up the carpet and baseboards. This hotel has gone downhill. The pool was closed. The hot tub has been “broken” for about 6 years. Yet, guests still have to pay a resort fee. I do like the gym and sauna room. Very clean. The free WiFi did not work. I had to go in person to the front desk and call two times to get gaslighted that maybe it my was fault. After the 4th attempt of them pretending to fix the wifi issue they directed me to “technical department” that was actually the housekeeper. The housekeeper was the only one to get them to fix the WiFi. They simply just had to reset it. 🥴 Oh! And the coffee did not work. The housekeeper NEVER came to clean the room in the 3 days here! They only got away with that during the Pandemic. No extra towels. No coffee. No refrigerator. No batteries for the remote control. No “do not disturb “ door handles. The battery phone chargers did not work. I usually leave a tip in the room for the housekeepers, but they made too many mistakes.

Let me first say. My wife and I have traveled a lot and have stayed in some great hotels and motels. But we have also stayed in some janky and questionable accomodations. Looking back, it made for some great memories. This is our third staying here at Harvey's Hotel and resort( most of those time were to eat at Gordon's Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen, which is AMAZING. The sticky toffee pudding dessert is sinfully good). The first time we stayed here, we booked through the hotel directly. The room was great. Newly remodeled, looked amazing and it felt like a $250 dollar a night accomodation. I would pay that price with no complaints if that were our experience every time we've stayed here. The second time we booked through Expedia for $170 a night and we were placed in the older not remodeled mountain tower. Why this is a so much of a surprise is the hotel is promoted with the newly remodeled rooms with pictures to captive you. I mean this side is a long ways away from modern touches. Old carpet that looks and smells like the 80's, dated and worn furnishings, a hard squeaky mattress, the one you get in the guest bedroom when you don't want people to get to comfortable in your house. I was confused and disappointed. So we went back downstairs immediately, we didn't even put our bags down. We go back to the check in counter and speak with a lady about the room and why we were not place in the nice tower like on the picture and where stayed before. She was rude and said, that's what you paid for. I asked for someone else so a guy comes who I assumed was a manager but before he spoke to us, the rude lady pulled him aside first a tells him something then he came and said, sorry but this is what you booked and that we're booked and due to COVID is why the rooms look like they do. I was fuming. My wife said it was ok and let's just enjoy ourselves. I took pictures and everything put I didn't post them or write a review. Now this third time, I called and booked directly through the hotels reservation line thinking we would get a better stay for $256 this time. Our son was performing at Peek in side of Harrah's. NOPE. We got the old undone mountain tower again. I asked for an up grade and was willing to pay more but it was no again. We met this couple on the way up the elevator here to eat a Hell's kitchen, that said what we felt. For $250 a night the accomodations should be better. COME ON HARVEY'S. YOU GAVE TO DO BETTER FOR WHAT PEOPLE ARE PAY. Stop the false advertising and give people the real option to choose. We work hard for our money and are willing to pay for a great experience so, DON'T PEE ON OUR LEGS AND TELL US IT'S RAIN. Enough is enough for us.

Get a renovated room it’s worth it. The Mountain View is crazy. I got the lake, mountains, and city all around. The room inside is roomy. The bathroom has 2 vanity and a large shower. The toilet is separated by a door so you can get your private time. The location is 3 minute walk from the heavenly shopping center. The arcade and casino are great. Not too overwhelming with smoke smell as I am someone with major asthma. The drinks are good. Only problem is I sat there for almost 2 hours before I could get a servers attention for a drink. I love how the arcade goes to the other hotel. The valet guys are super nice. They also drive nicely with your car. Cinnabon was good inside. The gift shop was expensive but had some cute things. There was another shirt store next to it but I waited 20 minutes at the register to buy some shirts and no one ever showed up to the register (only negative part about the service). They now how self check in and out which is cool but also I wish to interact more with workers. The elevators are clean and fast. When you walk into the hotel it has a huge waterfall center piece which is gorgeous. I didn’t go to any restraints here so I can’t give an accurate review on those. BOOK THIS HOTEL!

3/30/24 Overall visit pleasant. My concern is the very bad air quality. The entire casino is smokey and smells. The casinos bad filtration system. It's not good for children and those with respiratory issues. Also, the casino charges parking $17 a day for the hotel quest, adding insult your already dropping money at the tables.

Our room was very spacious and clean. Service seems incredibly understaffed though. We tried to request extra towels and blankets, but the wait for either was almost 2 hours. The location is great, it's about a block away from the Heavenly gondola and within walking distance of a lot of restaurants. There's an outdoor heated pool, a gym, sauna, and steam room. The casino itself isn't amazing because it's on the smaller size, the elevators for the car garage are a bit dingy and one of the elevators was a little sketchy because the doors didn't close all the way. Overall, still a good stay for the price and location.

they need to remove “Bring your dog and stay in one of the best pet-friendly hotels in Lake Tahoe,” from their website.
only if you want to be placed on a floor that smells old and overly perfumed to mask the moldy smell. we were denied the suite we booked months in advance, even after calling the resort to make sure the room we booked is dog friendly. well guess what, nope! we were put in a “significantly downgrade” (quote from the desk supervisor) of a room and it was a horror scene. they put little effort in cleaning the rooms, the bathroom had hair all over the floor, the shower tiles were heavily coated in mold, the floor had signs of stains that barely got cleaned. and to boot the walls are hardly insulated, you can hear everything nextdoor.
after being downgraded we were given the “base rate” of 139.00 a night, yet their website offers deals of 53$ a night, you would think they would offer a better rate after being lied to about their suites.
oh, also, if you bring a dog make sure you bring a sitter too, you can’t leave your dog unattended in the room - which i am certain everyone does. their main reason why? noise complaints, well guess what - you’re on a floor with other dogs, so your neighbor who has a dog is going to complain about a dog making noise?
this place is a rip off and a joke, luckily we were able to cancel our booking for a decent cancellation rate. and luckily i was able to book a room up the street that allows dogs in their suites which thus far are a pet-friendly hotel (hotel begins with a B”
i do however want to commend CJ for being the front desk agent that kept his composure and professionalism while i blew a gasket when denied the suite i booked.
Lake Tahoe Cruises, also known as MS Dixie II, offers a fantastic experience for families and adventure seekers alike. The Logan Shoals Vista Trail provides stunning views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area, with options for both paved and unpaved hiking trails. The cruise itself is a comfortable journey suitable for all ages, featuring open top deck for panoramic views and covered lower decks with restaurant-style seating. Onboard dining options include delicious steak, salmon dinners, and vegetarian-friendly wild mushrooms ragout.
Absolutely beautiful. The trip around the lake was amazing. The bartender was a sweetheart. Very helpful staff. It would be nice if they had more food selection. Great ride for family and friends. Note: this ride has the best prices in town I looked around and this one was affordable.

We went the first week of May to Celebrate Mother's Day. It was snowing a bit that weekend and it was definitely too cold to actually sit outside because of the wind/snow combo in some areas. We'd been on this day cruise exactly one year before. The views were totally different and although we didn't get to see the lakes beautiful blue colors there was still that magic about the lake. For me, seeing the snow fall on the nearby pine trees while sipping hot chocolate inside the boat was a beautiful and peaceful experience. This is coming from someone who doesn't experience much snow living in Southern CA. On a side note, the waitress there has a lovely attitude!

Staff from the bus driver, the boat crew to the servers were pleasant and very attentive and food was great! The boat was very stable and extremely smoothe. The pa system was a bit hard to hear over the passenger noise but we simply moved to a seat near a speaker.
We had a great time and really enjoyed our experience! I recommend it!

Amazing Tour! I would recommend to anyone visiting Lake Tahoe. The inside of the boat is super nice for a tour boat. It is set up banquet style and each passenger has their own individual table by the window. They have an open bar and bar food as well. During the winter the second and third deck are cold and windy but offer beautiful views!! Spend the $ and book the tour! You will not regret it.

Cruise was great and the captain and crew were really nice, accommodating and informative. Took my son and the views were amazing. Be sure to bring a warm jacket for the return. Plenty of room inside and has a full bar.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE 💯! My husband booked the MS Dixie ll Sunset Dinner Cruise for our 1st wedding anniversary last weekend and we had an absolutely lovely time. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. We got a window table for dinner so we had great views while eating. The dinner was AMAZING! Both my husband and I agree that it was the best ribeye we've ever had. Our server Juan was so pleasant too. After dinner, we went up to the top deck and enjoyed the views/sight seeing while listening to the audio about the history of Emerald Bay. Then we went to the second deck where we watched the live band, which was amazing BTW, danced and shared a couple cocktails. Overall we had an AMAZING experience. We are so glad we chose this Cruise to help celebrate our I year of marriage and we are already talking about doing it again, but with friends.

Went in February on a lovely sunny day! You can find the right spot on the top deck that isn't too windy, but you can also sit inside. We sat inside and had lunch which was pretty reasonably priced. Then went outside before hitting emerald Bay and stayed out the rest of the time. It was a fun trip. I would highly recommend.

A lovely 3 hour tour with incredible views and delicious food!
Love that they will pick you up at your resort and drop you back off. Awesome for those that like to enjoy a cocktail or two. Tips if you attend in September- bring a jacket and wear sensible clothing. Outdoors at night can be breezy and chilly. Remember to bring cash to tip your driver.

Really fun experience with the family. The views are incredible 360 degrees. It's quite comfortable to accommodate all ages and conditions. The top deck is open and the front can get super windy. But the lower 2 decks are covered with large glass windows for comfortable restaurant style seating. Lunch is available for purchase and it's decent. Bathrooms were clean and large. Takes you through emerald Bay and views without a hike and seasonal closures. Definitely a great activity to do together with seniors and young babies as it's to take strollers etc. On the boat.

Went on the evening dinner cruise. Dinner was good. Steaks and salmon dinners were wonderful and the wild mushrooms ragout was a big hit with our vegetarian. Cheese cake for dessert was scrumptious! The only draw back to the meal was the salad. The lettuce was slightly wilted and the cherry tomatoes were way past being used. Service was friendly and prompt. With our group being large we were automatically charged a gratuity per person. By the time we added in drinks it averaged about $140 per person for the cruise. Historical information provided was interesting, but you had to be on upper two levels to hear it. We arrived at emerald Bay at last light, so the water colors had lost their beautiful blues. All in all, a very enjoyable and relaxing cruise. There were three Birthday party groups on board and they had enough to drink they definitely enjoyed themselves. Music was enjoyable....

We did the sunset dinner cruise, and enjoyed it more than I imagined I would. I was with my family of 6, we ate first and enjoyed the food. Don't order the steak and expect steakhouse steak, but it was good and we enjoyed our time. The cheesecake was FANTASTIC! After dinner, we went up top and stood and sat near the bow. We felt the breeze and enjoyed the views.

My wife and I cruised on the Dixie in late March of this year. Our journey across Lake Tahoe was wonderful fun! Being able to get out on that magnificent blue lake was awe-inspiring, and slowing down into Emerald Bay was breathtaking. Late March was still winter, and we were lucky to catch a window of not extreme weather, that Tahoe had this year. The Dixie has plenty of inside seating to be sheltered from the weather, yet being on the top deck with the cold breeze certainly lets one know they are alive and invigorated.
A wonderful experience and I recommend the Dixie cruise highly.

Great way to see the lake if you are first time in Tahoe (goes to emerald bay!). Classic boat looks cozy. Interior is a bit "tired" and dining is far from fine/posh (plastic cups for cocktails). Its OK if you don't set expectations too high. On the way back they do live band - very friendly experience.

The experience exceeded my expectations. Despite the slightly outdated interior, sitting on the top deck offered a truly wonderful opportunity to take in the breathtaking beauty of Lake Tahoe in its entirety.
Casino Fandango is a tropical-themed hotel and casino complex that offers table games, live entertainment, and around-the-clock dining. It also provides exceptional event facilities with a spacious hallway outside the main rooms, which can be used for gathering or setting up a buffet. The service at Casino Fandango is outstanding with professional staff members like Josh, the Banquet Captain who is always ready to assist attendees in any way possible.
We love going in here in the morning we get the best service from our waiter. Bert he is funny fast and always willing to give you a fun good hard time you just enjoy the meal much more when your waiter is there that cool anyhow, we love playing the games there. My sister-in-law works there my brother Also he used to work there. They all love the company very much. We love playing the machines. We’ve won a little every now and again can’t say that we’ve ever won a lot.

Restaurant was very disappointing. The entire floor looked like it hadn't been swept or vacuumed for days. Could understood if it was busy but there were only 2 other tables occupied. Ordered 2 coffees & had to have the waiter bring 2 fresh ones after we added the creamer that was obviously spoiled. The food was only about average. Considering the prices, I expected a lot better

Just paid $32 for two of the most pathetic breakfast burritos I’ve ever seen. This must be a joke because I’ve never received such a sorry excuse for a burrito. Casino Fandango is a great place to hold an event! The facilities are very nice with a large hallway outside the main rooms that is ideal for gathering or setting up a buffet. The service was outstanding. In particular, Josh, the Banquet Captain, did a great job. Whatever was needed; a juice for an attendee, fixing the speaker volume or microphone, or jumping in as an extra bartender, Josh was there making it happen with a smile! Even with about 100 participants, the food was excellent with the steaks pink and tender! Our DAR conference went very smoothly!

The staff are friendly and helpful and really seem to care for the customers. The restaurants offer high quality fare at decent prices and drinks are on the house while you are gaming. Please don't forget to tip your servers well!!!
We win sometimes and we lose sometimes but we always have an enjoyable time! The only thing keeping us from giving a 5 star rating is that smoking is allowed and that is a big turn off for many.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum is a large collection of historical trains and equipment dedicated to the preservation of Nevada's railroad history. The museum boasts various types of historic train cars and smaller rail equipment on display, along with an abundance of interesting historical information. Visitors can walk inside some train cars in the second building while listening to engaging stories and facts from the knowledgeable museum curator. A stop at the gift shop before leaving is recommended for train enthusiasts who want to take a piece of history home with them.
This is a very large museum with many real, historic trains in it. Besides the different types of trains, there are also smaller rail cars and equipment displayed. The back wall is full of historical information that was extremely interesting! The second building held more train cars that you could walk inside. The museum curator back there was full of train stories and facts which really brought the history alive! A visit to the excellent gift is in order before leaving. If I didn't love trains before this trip, I do now!

This is a great little museum. It is put together by locals who love trains - full size and models. Within the building, they had at least 3 locomotives and some cars. They have a gift shop that was fun - especially for grandmothers around Christmas time. They were also putting together a model train board in preparation for an event. Well worth the modest sum. Kids of all ages will enjoy going here!

This is a smaller museum so it won’t take long to enjoy. Nice displays and information, along with some hands on experiences for kids (and a fun scavenger hunt!). Trains have been lovingly maintained and the staff is very knowledgeable. There is a small gift shop and some outdoor areas for exploring (in good weather).

I love visiting train museums, and this is a great, inexpensive one to visit. It's small, but that is fine. They have an interesting small collection, much of which is Virginia and Truckee. Grounds are very nice as well. We did not take a ride, but they were available. Helpful and interesting volunteers around to answer questions. Well worth visiting if you have an interest in trains.

If you like trains and you're in the area, this should get pinned on your e-map. There is a working engine for rides, some interesting train cars outside, nice depot, great static displays in the museum building and a warehouse with an engine and more train cars. If you go past the warehouse there are several disintegrating old train cars in a fenced in area. I've been here a few times and enjoy it every time.

First time visiting the museum and was impressed with the steam locomotives and rolling stock. The only down fall is the steam excursions run on a limited basis so if you want to catch a ride out of Carson city on a steam train you better call first and find out schedule.

Great little museum with friendly staff and great displays… They have quite a bit of history on display and everything is very informative, with videos and reader boards. They have a number of working trains still and have their own turntable and tracks on the property. The restoration barn is a must-see with some great displays and a number of items awaiting restoration. A great little museum, probably a 2-3 hours to tour if you stop to read everything.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum is a cool museum to visit in Carson City. The entry fee is $8 and there is a min structure with a few historical train engines and cars, as well as alot of history of railroads in Nevada. There is also a second large train warehouse/shop with some unique trains that you can go inside and see, as well as other restoration projects that are underway. Well.worth a visit if in Carson City, and can be toured in about an hour, and there are more activities during the summer months.

Nice museum to visit. This museum is great for a quick museum visit since it doesn't take long to see everything. Best to visit it on the weekends so you can ride on whichever train they have running at the time. Nice little gift shop and the employees are all really nice. There are employees all around who answer all kinds of questions you have. There is a small area where you can sit to have a snack if you choose to. 17 and under are free and the price for adults is just 8 dollars They do run special events that I'm sure you can find out about on their website.

Wanted to come to Carson City but had no knowledge about the Nevada State Railrod Museum! To my surprise, I learned quite a lot from my tour of the museum. The history of the Nevada-Virginia .There is a timeline from the beginning of how the railroads were constructed, what Woodburning and Coal burning steam engines were used..There are multiple types and parts of the engines and passager cars, hand cars on display as well as the train depot and it's telegraph key all original equipment. Tours and rides are available for a fee. This is worth the trip and the cost. It is an excellent learning opportunity for young children as well as adults.

Beautiful Church beautifully located you can not asked for more seeing all the views behind. Great place to have a drink then do the tour. Keep in mind you can see the museum, spiral staircase, and stone room (crypt) in the back without doing the tour. Tour was worth the $10 but might be a bit unexciting for those that don't buy into the whole ghost/supernatural thing. If you are tight on time (or money) and aren't a Ghost enthusiast, you wouldn't be sorry you missed the tour but otherwise I'd say it's definitely in the top 4 things to do in this little historic town.
Tour guide was informative but definitely was catering to the Ghost Hunter Crowd but I refrained from asking hard questions in order to not impede on the other people's enjoyment. Kids in the group loved it. In the Winter, bundle up as the tour is in the unheated area of the building. Didn't eat here but bar service was great.

First time doing a ghost tour and it’s very disappointing. Unknowledgeable and rude ghost tour host who is pushing you through the rooms quickly while telling you that she has a time limit. There was a total of 5 of us and 3 people at the bar. Rude bartender. I’m sensitive to spirits and didn’t pick up anything. The scariest part of the tour was the unsafe conditions of the building. It would have been more interesting learning more about the building. The history of the Crypt was very interesting otherwise just another want to be haunted tourist trap building.

Afterwards we went to the museum where ghost adventures played on a loop. Visit the bar and spend time talking to the bartender. She is an incredibly nice person and is willing to share her experiences at the Washoe. I had a blast and really enjoyed myself. The tour costs $10 and occurs every hour and ends in the museum. The Virginia City Visitor Center is a great place to star a visit of the Old Western cute gold mining town Virginia with many of its original buildings still standing today. You can easily spend a full day visiting the many bars, restaurants, candy and souvenir stores along the Main Street and many original homes from the time. There are many details to pay attention to while strolling the old western style wooden sidewalks. People are generally friendly, but the city can be crowded on weekends and holidays. By all means worth a visit while in Nevada.

Barney Fife cops in the town with nothing to do but give out parking tickets for $195. Evidently they voted to charge this absolutely ridiculous amount of money just recently and low and behold the cops are now all over town looking for tiny infractions to raise revenue, praying on tourists struggling to find a parking spot. When I returned to my car the guy next to me who also had a ticket pointed at mine. We both tried to figure out what we had done wrong because it didn't say "No Parking". There was around 12 cars with parking tickets just in that general area. They were also camped out at each end of the town nailing anyone driving in above the 20mph limit which drops well before you get into the town. Total speed trap. This is a tiny town and yet the cops were all over the place looking for any tiny thing a tourist might do wrong. You want to cost the businesses in your town tourism then this is the way to do it. I used to take visiting friends and family to see the town all the time. Never again!

Gorgeous views, well maintained trail, so many photo ops. Entry is about $15 for non Nevada cars. And $10 for Nevada state cars. Super clean and super picturesque.
Dogs are allowed off-season (mid October to mid April)
We were in March and definitely layer up because it can be windy and cold.
Restrooms are available but be mindful that they were closed due to winter.

Sand Harbor Beach is an incredibly beautiful hidden gem just about 20 minutes outside of Lake Tahoe. You won't be disappointed if you go there. There is pristine clear Turquoise Waters with a sizable sandy Beach area to enjoy. There are Prehistoric looking Rock formations that you can climb on and take some really cool pics. There is ample room for Bicycling and several Nature trails for some hiking. There is a pretty cool BBQ area for some day use however this area must be reserved in advance. I highly recommend that any interested individuals go there, you will be pleasantly surprised. 😉👍👍

We spent several hours exploring the area by kayaks. It was a great time. Afterward, we hiked along the shoreline. It was a great day for adventure. The visitors center was closed, making it difficult to learn more about the state park. To see our adventures subscribe to SIMPLE LIFE BIG ADVENTURES on YouTube.

Amazing beach, lot of parking. It has 3-4 access points and the views of the beach are different from each access point. Also, don't forget the Ramada Point Rocks. Parking is $15 for CA registered vehicles and $10 for NV registered vehicles. There is a bar and grill (closes in evening) and restrooms nearby. The water here is the best turquoise color that can be seen in Lake Tahoe without hiking anywhere. No need to go anywhere else.

This state park is mind-blowingly beautiful. Sand Harbor is the main visitor area, with access to several beaches and rocks to swim from. There are also plenty of other spots further along the shore where you can park on the side of the road and hike down to the water, BUT you can't even get to these until the Sand Harbor traffic dies down. In peak season San Harbor gets mobbed with visitors, to the point that it shuts down the roadway in the morning with a line of cars waiting to enter Sand Harbor, thereby blocking thru traffic that is trying to get past Sand Harbor (no passing lane) until the park stops accepting more vehicles. I wouldn't say this should count against the park, but rather the fault of over population. Next time we visit we would stay in Incline Village and rent bicycles, it's a 5 mile ride along an incredibly beautiful public shore pathway, very well executed including paved stretches and brides over rockier portions.

Best beach on the lake! No question about it. Anytime of year. It's a state beach so expect to pay for entry but there is hiking and sandy beaches. Rocks to climb on. A Shakespearean festival sometimes. So picturesque.

Lake Tahoe has countless of beautiful beaches but Sand Harbor to me has to be the number 1 spot.
Beautiful, blue, calm water and lots of parking. Public Bathrooms are clean and spread out through out the harbor. We only bike north til the trail ends at the highway and boulder scrambling along the beach this trip but will be back this summer for kayaking and hiking.
Plan to spend the entire day here at least. It's totally worth it and you probably won't want to find other beaches to hop to

It’s been about 20 years since I’ve been to this beach, it’s always packed and for good reason! Large sandy beaches with a few separate little coves. The rocks are fun to climb and jump off of. Plus, there’s a place to buy food and snacks now! We love that new addition and the cashier was so helpful and sweet. Must visit but get there early or plan on taking a shuttle.

Nevada State Parks has really gone downhill. You now need to pay twice as much if you're from out of state. They have one vehicle entrance that charges $10 dollars, than another entrance that charges $2, for what looks like foot or bicycle entrance, but since you need to display your tag in your vehicle, how will they know you already paid for parking and were just hiking. In addition they threaten a $195 fee if you don't pay. I work for California State Parks and Nevada State Parks are definitely scamming people.
So, why is this place still getting 5 stars? Because, the tyranny of Nevada State Parks shouldn't take away from this place's natural beauty. I usually go to the California side, as the parking on the Nevada side is practically impossible to find during peak season, unless you get there at like 6 or 7 in the morning. I see why, as it is much more beautiful than the beaches on the California side. Personally, I wouldn't attempt to come here during peak season, but during low season, it's a completely different world. This is Lake Tahoe at its most raw!

We love this state park, off-season, that is. It can be quite crowded in the summer.
There is a nice boardwalk to wander with beautiful views of the lake and inlets. The large boulders in the water give it a unique charm.

Great scenery. Came on April 7th. Wasn’t busy at all so was really enjoyable and peaceful. Parking permit was $15 if you do not have a Nevada plate.

This place! Took us a few trials and errors but we made it on the last day! Must get here by 8 am! Bring a sweater and set up your spot on the cove side. We walked around the boardwalk and warmed up. Being surrounded by the huge boulders and being able to jump off was so cool. The sand is so pretty and soft, it has a pink color. The views from the board walk looking down you could see just how aqua blue the water is. They have a restaurant with adult drinks, and lots of good food.

Great park for views, easy casual walking paths, the beach, and kayaking/paddle boarding. Entry fee cash only. Food and drinks available at store. Note for summer- by mid day it is very busy, parking fills up and they will close the parking lot and no walking into park allowed. Best to go in the morning or later afternoon/evening and hope the parking lot is open.

Great place to spend the day! I visited the week after Labor Day and it was not too busy- plenty of parking at 9am when I arrived (although I’ve read parking is crazy during summer months). Parking is $15 for non Nevada residents and $10 for Nevada residents. There is a great large beach with a volley ball net, kayak/paddle board rentals, and even a bar and restaurant within the park. The water is beautifully clear.

1st time experience and it did not disappoint. The beach was clean and beautiful. You must arrive early in order to get in. I would recommend an hour before it opens. The water was crisp and refreshing. The sand was soft on my feet. Beautiful views and will be returning.

A beautiful 😍 park! A must see if you are in the area! If you go by car you are better off going to the Sand Harbour State Park, entrance was $15.00 USD and walk the trail which are made of asphalt so be careful when hot. There is a place where you can rent e-bikes and go through the trail. We walk but we didn’t the whole trail. The place for food and drinks closed by the end of October and reopen in May of the following year!

Beautiful state park- One of the most beautiful places you’ll ever see. Park is very clean and visitor center with restaurant are on the premises. Large parking lot, but beware as it can fill up by 9am. Beach rentals are towards the end of the beach. You could spend all day here and be just fine. There are a series of walking paths around the lake within the park. The pictures don’t do it justice: you’ve gotta go!
Eagle Rock Trailhead offers easy access and free parking, making it a convenient starting point for a short hike with stunning panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. The trail is less than a mile long, providing hikers with some of the best vistas on the west shore of the lake. With a moderate difficulty level, the 620-foot climb to Eagle Rock is relatively easy and well worth the effort. The trail isn't usually crowded, offering visitors a peaceful experience in nature.
A nice family hike with great views of Lake Tahoe. The volcanic rocks are relatively easy to navigate, but be careful of the dusty tails. It's easy to slip and sprain an ankle if you're not careful.

Nice winter hike if you're up for hiking in the snow. Most others I saw on the trail had snowshoes. With ordinary boots, you sometimes sink into the snow. It's all part of the adventure! The view of the lake and surrounding mountains at the end made it worth the effort.

Quick hike to get to the top. Definitely a gorgeous view but unfortunately due to haziness from surrounding fires it was not ideal. Regardless well worth it and super convenient for where our stay was located.

Really solid trail that’s not too difficult, pretty quick, and pays off with some great views. Can be a bit dusty/dry when it hasn’t rained for a while, but not really problematic. Up at the top there is plenty of room to check out multiple view points of the lake. Definitely worth the hike if you are in the area and looking for good lake views.

Great trail. Snow has just gone, so fairly easy for the sure footed. Less sure footed people were getting help from their friends/family. Spectacular views from the top as expected.
Please read the trail information board about the indigenous Washoe tribe that used to roam this area - and spare a thought for them.
Didn't give 5 stars because it is inaccessible for some people but the board doesn't say so, so some will be disappointed.

The Eagle Rock Trail is a great trail to hike in Northwest Lake Tahoe. The trail is fairly short only about less than a half mile to the top, and offers great views of Lake Tahoe and the West shore. Highly recommend if in the area, and best on a clear day for the best views.
Brendan Kiely — Google review
A must to do when in the area. It just took 10-15 mins to reach the top of Eagle Rock and about 5 mins to climb down.
The view of Lake Tahoe from the top is amazing. Mornings are better due to the sun's direction.
Even while you are approaching the trailhead by car, you'll notice the steep rock on your side. The look is very attractive and makes you wanna go to the top. Trail is slightly steep but very short.
Aishwarya Kher — Google review
Probably the best bang for your efforts. This hike trail is short, moderately easy, and worth every second of it. Just a short 20 walk gets you to the top of Eagle Rock where you will see the lake from a spectacular view not offered that much. The climb is only 620 ft from where you start, a couple of iffy spots, but easy throughout. Another plus was that it wasn’t crowded. We did happen to see a couple of lovebirds making out high up. It seems like the thing for local kids to do. I found that to be pretty wonderful.

Fantastic views abound up on Eagle Rock, in all directions. It's east facing, so the sunrise is a great time to climb up. The hike is very short and easy. It's a little rocky at the top but not bad at all. Totally worth it! Park on the side of the highway at this location.

A short but rewarding hike. Eagle Rock has a wonderful view of Lake Tahoe. There is some snow on it now, which makes it a little slippery so come prepared. In the summer I would imagine that this would be an easy walk to a magnificent view. :) Dogs are welcome just need to be on a leash.

Mt. Rose - Ski Tahoe is a ski resort in the Lake Tahoe area that boasts of having the highest base elevation for skiing. The resort offers 1,300 acres of carefully maintained ski runs suitable for skiers of all levels. There are seven chairlifts and three snowboard parks available to cater to visitors' diverse needs. For those seeking luxury accommodation, North Star provides slopeside five-star lodging.
Booked a first timer snowboard lesson online the day before a Friday. $155 ($10 helmet is extra) for gear and - 2 hour lesson. Our instructor was Christine - 75, looking happy and young!
You go down the stairs to check in and then head in to get your shoes then your board and you get a poker chip (number on it corresponds with the basket) if you need a bin to store your belongings.
Our class started at 10 and there was 5 in our group. We did some stretching first then went through some basic skills. It was about 1115 and we finally went up the magic carpet to go down the big bunny hill!
We took a lunch break. They have an assortment of electrolyte drinks, your sodas and bottled water. They also have prepackaged salads (I got the cobb for $12). They have meat and vegetarian chili, burgers, fries, chicken tenders, oranges and bananas from what I can remember.
With the package, you can ski until the park closes at 4p.
Our day was super gorgeous, and a fun one!

Mt. Rose is a great mountain! The lodge and rental area is very small, so it is easy to navigate and the mountain is suitable for all levels. It is very home-y and run by a great team of people that are helpful and nice. There are a wide variety of greens and blues on two of the ski lifts and a decent bit of blacks on the third ski lift. The runs are on the shorter side, I skied down a blue to the bottom in 4 minutes - however they are very fun blues. The lodge has a variety of vegan/ vegetarian options like vegan chili and wraps. They have great ski deals on certain days of the week - Thursday’s are half off for ladies during certain weeks in the season. In my opinion it would make for a great half ski day rather than a full if you are mid-level experienced.

Came here on March 15 and 16 2024 and skied all day both days. Prices are way better than the other mountains in the area and it wasn't crowded at all. I got there at 9am and was skiing by 9:30. Never waited more than a few minutes to get on a lift. They do $69 day passes for active duty (access for ALL lifts). Staff was super friendly and helpful. This was my first time skiing in almost 15 years, so I took a Next Step lesson and was able to pick it right back up. This place is great for people of all experience levels. Even the beginner slopes had plenty of variety. As someone who had never skied on the west coast before, I'm glad I found this mountain. Cannot beat the amazing views and the ease of accessing all the slopes.

Great ski experience! My family (kids and adults) learned ski here. Nice long runs for beginners to learn quickly. Kids lessons are very good. Coaches try to challenge kids so they improve fast. Coach Diane took our kids to blue runs for their first time and that really helped them.

There’s enough snow here to last all the way in the next December. However, they’re closing for the season on April 30. Seems like a waste, but people will have the other interests as the weather warms up. This is a popular ski resort with locals and tourists alike. With lots of runs when they’re able to keep them open.
The food in the lodge is pretty good and reasonable for a ski resort. If you plan on visiting Mount Rose, you better hurry.

I’ve been in many ski resorts in Tahoe but mt rose is a whole different animal, it provides all ski levels, parking isn’t not an issue unlike most of the other resorts, staff is very nice and friendly. For you little ones they have magic carpet where you can train young kids….its definitely worth it coming here….will probably bring my family next winter.

We had both of our kids (7 and 9) take their first lesson on skiing at Mt Rose at the end of 2021 (right after the HUGE snowstorm), and the instructors and employees there were fantastic! My boys loved learning to ski, and my youngest took his instructor’s advice to heart, and said, “I need to take another lesson.” My oldest said that he “got the basics down and didn’t need another lesson,” so we scheduled a second day.
While my youngest took his lesson, my oldest and I tried out the beginner terrain off the Wizard chair lift. My youngest was super jazzed after his lesson and joined us for a few runs. The beginner runs at Mt Rose are fantastic - we didn’t even get to try the lift that is halfway up the hill for more beginner trails. All of the employees on the magic carpet and beginner lift were so nice and helpful - they weren’t annoyed at all if you messed up getting on or off the lift.
My only issue was that they closed the lifts at 4pm (which I totally get since it gives you time to return your rentals before it gets dark). It’s a great deal if you take lessons in the morning because then, you have about 4 hours to do some runs. But if you do the 12:30 classes, you end at 3, so you only get an hour to do a couple of runs before closing time.
I can’t say enough about Mt Rose - such a great place. I hadn’t snowboarded in about 14 years, so all of the beginner terrain was great to help me get going again, and it was super fun for the kids! I highly recommend this place if your are just starting out!

This was a wonderful place for first-time skiers. We did the 2 day lesson "flight" pass. Both days, we were paired with amazing instructors who were very patient and helpful in their methods of instruction. I can not say enough good things about Ermano and Bruce. Chris also instructed my husband and younger son, who were more advanced and/or confident than I was after the 1st day. They really had a great time with him, too. The staff in the pro shop were also very helpful and patient with us in getting us all the necessary gear. I also think Cathleen was awesome at the Magic Carpet in helping ensure I always got on safely and giving pointers to make it easier for the next time. I look forward to coming back again!

Great local's area. Only a half hour drive if you live in South Reno like me. Hardly any lines (virtually none on weekdays). Highest base elevation in the area. But this is not a "resort destination" area as the dining options are basic and limited and there's not any sort of village or bar/dining at the top of the mountain. It's really a locals hill, or a place to go for visitors that want to avoid the crowds/lines at the other more popular areas in the Tahoe Region. My main gripe is their Season Pass, unlike the EPIC Pass, doesn't work at any other ski areas other than their own. If I were living in NW Reno I'd probably get the EPIC Pass and ski Northstar and then use it at other areas in Colorado, California and Utah.
This was a great season! Although as a Season Pass Holder at Mt. Rose, it's really disappointing for an area that their marketing slogan is how high their base elevation is compared to other resorts in the area, that even in a record snowfall year, the season has not been extended anywhere near as long as other lower elevation areas in the Sierra Nevada region have (some to July 4, they are ending on April 30! Are you kidding me?) I realize of course this is probably purely an economic decison to not extend the season to at least Memorial Day Weekend. But as a Business Owner myself, I'm honestly a bit surprised there's not some creative solution to create a win-win situation operating beyond April at least at some limited capacity.
Rumor has it since Mt. Rose is on BLM Land, their permit doesn't allow them to operate past April. If this is indeed the case, it's a little surprising in such as huge record snowfall year, their marketing department didn't at least send out an email to all the Season Pass Holders explaining this, or, negotiated a one-month extension with BLM considering the unique circumstances.

If you love skiing, but want a more "where the locals ski" experience, Mount Rose is the place to go. Mount Rose is much smaller and commercial than resorts like Heavenly or Northstar, but that doesn't mean that it feels small or cramped. This resort has a great variety of runs for beginners and seasoned skiers alike, and I love how friendly everyone seems to be here. The lines go by much faster, the runs are fairly long, and if you can handle going down intermediate runs, you can park in the back lot and literally park within stone's throw of a ski lift. While I still enjoy the larger resorts, this one will still be my go-to when I feel like relaxing at a resort that feels comfortable and homey.

Mount Rose is a mountain in the northern Sierra Nevada Range, located a few miles northeast of Lake Tahoe. It's the highest mountain in the Carson Range, which is on the east side of Lake Tahoe. Great for skiing. It's also the highest Nevada mountain in the Sierra Nevada Range.
Mount Rose is 10,779 feet above sea level. So you will be avle to go down various different types of hills. It's the second highest peak in the Lake Tahoe Basin, after Freel Peak.
Mount Rose is located 25 miles southwest of downtown Reno. It's also 11 miles northeast of Incline Village on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Very easy ti get to from our place
The Mount Rose summit trail has one of the most diverse wildflower communities in the Tahoe Basin. The lower elevations are covered in sagebrush and grass, with white bark and lodge pole pine.
The Mount Rose hike is roughly 11 miles round trip, with a total elevation gain of 2,500 feet. Most people complete the hike in 6 hours.
Overall, its a great place for skiing. There are a lot of hills to go down, and it is very large.

First time trying skiing, and my husband on the snowboard, firstable the drive from South Lake is not too bad. It's very pretty. There is plenty of free parking, which is part of why we choose this place. Everyone is very helpful in getting your rentals, where to leave your stuff and just information in general. If you are a beginner, they have a great space for practice, I guess it is the kids' area, but it's very helpful. We went for the half day afternoon. It was enough time to try and wet on the lift a few times . I'll highly recommend getting a lesson!! it will make your life so much easier , we are very athletic and we really wished had signed up for the class. Anyway we had a lot of fun . Don't ask me about my tomorrow soreness 😂

20 mins away from Reno and the one of most community minded ski resorts in the area, provides a little bit of terrain for all different level skiers. You a beginner? They got you. Dare devil? Got some steep runs for you (weather permitting). Offers rentals of equipment & sales of personal ski/snowboard clothes (NO. They don't rent pants, coats, gloves, socks or goggles). Classes for kids are the best! Most of the parking lot is close to the hill so you won't have to take a bus, shuttle or anything, but it can be full during holidays.
You need to have a lift ticket and equipment to go on the lifts, there is no lift for sight seeing from the top.

I stayed at this amazing resort for a week for my skiing trip with my cousins and my aunt and uncle. It was awesome. There was so much to do and the area was beautiful. Actually I have an awesome story. So when we were there, the snow covered everything and the outdoor hot tubs all had a barrier of snow. Me, my little cousin, and some other people were in the hot tub right next to another one. And basically the other hot tub engaged in war with us, and another hot tub nearby. It got pretty heated, I even made alliances with the other hot tub that was also being attacked by the one next to us. Soon we destroyed the hot tub that started it and they fled into the pool. Honestly this was an amazing experience I hope I can go again this year! We spent Christmas here as well

Overall, we enjoyed our experience. The views are amazing and there was a decent amount and variety of terrain. We went on a day where temps got up into the mid 50s and the snow was definitely slushy and sticky in spots. Multiple lifts were also closed, further limiting options. On the plus side, there were very few crowds on a weekday, so lift wait times were great. Overall, I would come back, but never at full price, as I feel like the value proposition is not there, especially during the spring and with less slopes open.

As soon as you pull up the valet guys are right there to greet you. We walked in the front doors to a beautiful lobby complete with a fireplace and plenty of lounge areas. The restaurants were nice, food and drinks were great.
They have a ski lift there. We did not experience that as we took lessons in the Village. The pools are all heated and There are multiple hot tubs around them to relax in. Outside there are fireplaces, a waterfall, and plenty of places to just sit and relax. If you get the chance to visit, We highly recommend!

Palisades Tahoe marketed their slopes as being open. But only about 10% of the runs were open. Yet, they're still charging $200/day for a lift ticket. I definitely didn't get my money's worth, despite driving for God knows how many hours to get here. All of the people working here were great. Just their businesses practices are less than stellar.

I had a good time, and was quite impressed at the lack of lines/speed of lifts. Even on a Saturday, with the parking lot full, I barely experienced any waits on the alpine lifts.
The intermediate terrain felt quite limited though. I basically just did the same run through the central valley of the mountain over and over again, which wasn’t terribly fun with all the beginner traffic.
The terrain was a 2-3 star at best, the 4 star rating is because of the amazing logistics. Gondola and lots of fast lifts made for positive overall experience. I wouldn’t specifically make a trip to this place, but if I was in the region I’d definitely come back.

We went to visit my brother in Truckee and were able to spend three days skiing. The resort is well maintained, beyond beautiful scenery, great restaurants, shops, and the skiing is phenomenal. The only drawback is the layout. For beginners, the resort is laid out somewhat poorly. The greens are typically closer to the bottom whereas here they are quite a ways up and hard to navigate which can quickly become problematic. Loved all the options though from the runs to the shopping, etc. Will definitely be back!

Big, big, ski resort. It has an incredible variety of ski trails, wonderful views of the mountains and a very helpful friendly staff. It is also very expensive! You pay for everything. Some of the season passes offer a good value if you have the schedule to take advantageous of them. The gondola rides are enjoyable for even the non skiers.

Great terrain, great snow, and the resort is often open and accessible when others are not. The resort staff is friendly and their efforts to keep things going in all conditions is very visible and makes a considerable difference to the great benefit of all guests. The lift lines move quickly and there is plenty of parking that’s orderly and organized which translates into more time on the slopes. With such a great spot a person would normally keep quiet and keep it to themselves but I think the word is already out. This is where you wanna be, especially if you want more challenging and fun terrain with consistent deep powder days.

It was awesome! Saw the GS and Slalom World Cup! Snowboarded two days with lots of good terrain. We will be back!

Awesome resort offering a great variety of terrain from beginner to super advanced. The resort now connects to alpine meadow which offers way more option to ride. The other side of the mountain is accessible by the gondola and takes about 15min to connect. There are great views of Lake Tahoe as well

Still my favorite resort in the country...by far. Great staff throughout the resort. All very nice and helpful. The fastest Starbucks ever too!

Palisades, a great mountain to ski! Variety of runs for beginner to expert level, packed into a small footprint. I visited during this past holiday weekend. Lines were extremely long snow was not great. I have been skiing here for years and look forward to returning with better snow

First time here, highly recommend. Absolutely gorgeous, came during the week so it wasn’t very crowded, snowed on us the whole time so lots of fresh powder, awesome runs and trails. Will return. Friendly staff no matter where we went.

Took the giant tram up the mountain to the Gold coast cabin. The 110 person tram is huge and there are beautiful views. Once at top they have free roller skating and a restaurant and drinks. Beautiful meadows abound with tons of wild flowers. There are several hiking trails you can take from there. It is $44 per adult to go up. Season ski pass holders and Icon passholders (for next season) are free. Really worth the trip.

Nice place to ski in Tahoe. Plenty of terrain and plenty of choices depending on your level of skill.

I have been to palisades around 10 times to ski this season, have yet to be disappointed.
The menu at Mid-Mountain is great, lots of gluten free options!

Palisades is a world class ski resort for a reason. It's definitely not a mountain for beginners learning to ski, but there are a few green runs that would be fine for practice. We frequent Shirley Lake and Granite Chief, which has a great mix of advanced blues and challenging black runs. It can get crowded, so we make sure we're on time for first chair. Alpine Meadows is a hidden gem; less crowded than Palisades with gorgeous, wide open runs all over the mountain. The Base to Base gondola rarely has a line and is really convenient to be able to traverse both mountains. Chamois is a classic for aprés but definitely fills up after last chair, and Wildflour has great cookies for an end of day treat.
