Tianning Temple is a remarkable complex in Jiangsu Province, surrounded by lush gardens and ponds. It boasts a striking 13-storey octagonal pagoda, standing at an impressive height of 153.7 meters - the tallest in China and the world. Visitors can take an elevator to reach the top floor, but there is a fee to pay.
Although it is newly rebuilt in 2007, still quite worth a visit. Spectacular view from the top.

Tianning Temple (天寧寺) is an important building in Jiangsu Province. It attracts visitor for the majestic structure and long history building:
1. The structure feature: this 13-storey octagon shaped temple is 153.7 meter height, which is the highest pagoda in China and in the world. There is an elevator for visitor to the top floor. You have to prepare the money.
2. The history feature: There are about 500 Arhat (羅漢) statues embedded in the both sides of the wall. The artistic level is very high and rare, which is seen as the treasure of the temple.
I recommend visitor can go to the Hongmei Park (紅梅公園) after temple trip. You can stroll in this beautiful park and discover different view for the Tianning Temple.

Huishan Ancient Town, located in Wuxi, China, is a small yet remarkable ancient town that stands out for its extensive collection of over 120 ancestral halls dating back to the Tang Dynasty. These ancestral halls showcase traditional Jiangnan architecture and serve as important spaces for family traditions and honoring ancestors. The town also offers a unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles in some of its buildings.
I was absolutely blown away by this place. Amazing ancient architecture, plenty tea gardens, flower gardens and places you can sit and enjoy a meal. You can walk around, rent a boat or get a cable car. I love the quaint library for its souvenir ideas. It's full of stunning history. I picked up a pair of handmade shoes among other things. Theres's a little courtyard with stone water tubs where tourists and locals toss in a coin in exchange for happiness. At least this is what I was told! Of course I chucked in a few coins.

Beautiful gardens and Chinese architecture. A visit to this site will give you a real feel of the ancient traditions of China. The gardens are green in winter. But the full colours of the flowers will be experienced in spring and summer.

Nanchan Temple is a renowned Buddhist shrine located in Wuxi that features a stunning historic yellow temple exhibiting a magnificent 7-tiered pagoda and an impressive golden Buddha statue. The temple opens its doors to visitors from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM daily, allowing access only within these hours. Additionally, the vibrant night-time illumination adds to the beauty of this place of worship, making it even more mesmerizing after sunset.
There are several Buddhist temples in Wuxi. Nanchan Temple is one of them. It's from 8:30 to 5:30. Without this time you can't enter inside. It's become more Beautiful at night. Lovely place.

A bizarre experience. First, you were greeted with an army of “Dama”(大媽 / aunties)on a stage competing for a sponsored dance competition near the temple entrance. The music was, uh, deafening. Then you would bump into monks paying attention to their mobile phones and locals smoking inside the temple area. There was also a shopping corridor located next to the Temple, littered with run-down shops and stalls selling antiques, as well as vintage comic books and Mao badges from the 60s and 70s of the last centuries. If you were into architecture of centuries-old buildings with an authentic Zen vibe, I am not sure this is the place you are looking for. Free admission though.

The Humble Administrator's Garden is the largest classical garden in Suzhou, dating back to the Ming emperor Zhengde. It is divided into three distinct areas and is one of over 50 gardens still in existence today. Along with eight other gardens, it represents the finest examples of Chinese Mountain and Water gardens. These gardens are known for their exquisite craftsmanship, artistic elegance, and rich cultural implications.
The exemplary masterpiece among all Chinese gardens. Make this your #1 priority coming to Suzhou.
Andrew Kean Guan — Google review
If I had to name this, "humble" is probably not a word that would spring to mind. Perhaps the Administrator might have been humble, but the garden is anything but. There is an explanation in the museum as to why there are so many nice (previously) private gardens in and around SuZhou. Think "keeping up with the Jones'". So maybe the Administrator wasn't all that humble after all, just like his garden!
We went on an "off-peak" weekday, but it was still quite crowded. Nevertheless, we were able to enjoy the various "rooms" that the garden is divided up into without too much crowding. As it was spring time, there were quite a few flowers out. Overall, this was a very pleasant place to spend a half day.
The only reason that I didn't give this five stars is that even though it was an off-season weekday when we visited, some of the paths were quite narrow and it was - at times - a bit difficult to squeeze past other park visitors. I personally probably wouldn't visit during a busy time - unless crowds are your thing.
Glenn McCall — Google review
The oriental scenery is so be beautiful, not recomended to buy souvenirs inside the garden, i would suggest to somewhere 3pm, then exit at 5.00pm, then wait for night event to see the lighting from 6pm.

There are multiple traditional Suzhou-style Chinese gardens in Suzhou, and 9 of these gardens have been inscribed in World Heritage list. The most famous and notable one is the Humble Administrator's Garden. It will take you about two to three hours to finish the walk throughout most of the places of interest. It's mandatory to make a reservation of your arrival time during a busy time like summer.
It is recommended to join a tour guide service to further understand the background history and trivia behind this garden and the story of the founder. The complimentary tour guide service lasts for half an hour, guiding you through some of the most crucial buildings in the garden. You can understand more by requesting for a paid tour guide service.
There are lots of photo opportunities in the garden, and you get to experience more when the history of these incredible buildings is revealed. The current price is RMB$70 in the off-peak season and RMB$80 in the peak season.
Sean Liu — Google review
One of the must visit attractions in Suzhou.
This attraction boasts of a traditional house from ancient times with beautifully manicured gardens. The bonsai garden is especially impressive.
Remember to book your tickets well in advance. RMB70 with special prices tickets for elderly and half price for off peak seasons.

The Humble Administrator's Garden (拙政園) is the largest, finest and most beautiful garden in south China. This famous garden was built in Suzhou (蘇州) in Ming Dynasty (明朝). The designer use spaces planning and incorporated both natural and man-made materials to present various but elegant views that visitor need to discover with mind. I strong recommend to hire a tour guide to lead you into this beautiful world and explain those astonish designs.
It is better to put 3-4 hours in the itinerary to enjoy the garden.
An important thing need to be mentioned: There are lots of cheaters selling the fake ticket in very cheap price. Don't be fraud. The true ticket is sold only in the official entrance.

One of I.M.Pei's masterpieces. Every corner I turned delivered an amazing spatial experience. The architect's sensitive response to the vernacular architecture and integration with existing historical buildings makes me a very very happy person. The apertures are also to die for. At the time I went (August 2018) there was a cool contemporary calligraphy exhibition on. The rest of the exhibits are archaeological crafts and artefacts, well curated. One of the better museums I've been to in the area.
IMPORTANT NOTE 1***: Make sure you book your ticket online at least 1 week prior!!! The tickets are free, you just need to reserve ahead of time to skip the queue. (I managed to skip the queue because my grandpa pulled the elderly trick and jumped the line entirely, bringing me with him). Don't fall for tour guides trying to sell you tickets to the museum. Even if you waited during weekday it'd only be 30mins max wait. It's free!!!
IMPORTANT NOTE 2***: I went through the museum "backwards". Start by going in and turning left towards the stairs and waterfall.

Only had very limited time to visit here. Mainly came here to look at the architectural design of the museum. It was elegant and tranquil!
The Yangchenghu is a large body of water situated in China. It is characterized by its vastness and expansiveness, offering a significant amount of space for various activities and purposes. This aquatic habitat serves as an important source of sustenance for both flora and fauna, providing nourishment and support to a wide range of organisms that inhabit its depths. The expanse of the Yangchenghu also allows for ample opportunities for recreational pursuits such as boating, fishing, and other water-related activities.

Sanshan Mountain Island, located in the vast expanse of the ocean, is a picturesque landmass characterized by its stunning natural beauty. This idyllic island is renowned for its majestic landscapes, with towering peaks and lush greenery that provide a feast for the eyes. The island's geographical features are diverse and captivating, ranging from tranquil beaches adorned with pristine white sands to rugged cliffs that offer breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding waters.
Tongli Ancient Town, located in the southern outskirts of Suzhou, is a well-known water town with a history of over 1000 years. The town is characterized by its intricate network of rivers that divide it into several parts, creating a picturesque setting with old residences and hidden gardens. This ancient town has also served as the backdrop for shows adapted from Wuxia novels.
Like stepping into the pages of a Wuxia novel; in fact, some shows adapted from those books were filmed here. Love that it's off season as crowds were minimal and on the rainy days, we feel like we had the town to ourselves. Be wary of the electric scooters, though. They can sneak up on you as they don't make any sound. Also, some merchants are aggressive and unscrupulous and will lure you into their stores with free samples; as soon as you enter the store, you are an insect in a Venus fly trap! Also, most of the restaurants inside the old city serve pretty much the same dishes. For more variety, go into the regular part of town.

Becareful of those illegal seller at the entrance ticket. They will probably tell u she can offer u RMB50 per hidden entry.. instead of the actual ticket cost u China Yuan RMB100. Great destination to visit. Dont risk urself for buying illegal ticket as security and police is there to guard

Must place to visit in Suzhou. A unique experience to dress up in ancient Chinese clothing and dine/drink beside the river. Don’t rush to choose an eating place. More choices inside. Place also has a few smaller museums, very unique Chinese history.

Overrated, given the hype and steep entrance fees (RMB 100 for adults). Sleepy looking with the same stores and selling the same wares.
Amazing place to enjoy the extreme speed of F1 racing car. You will have the most lively experience with the engine smoke smell, the noise and the wind. Enjoy the race!
Tuấn Anh Trần — Google review
Very well built F1 track with huge grand stand and lots of facilities. If budget is a factor the best seats are at the K stand hairpin curve. I'd give it 5 stars if those were not occupied by the F1 race in Singapore.

Got the chance to come here for a VIP race in late 2016 and it was awesome. Got to head down to track level and eat some food with the racers. Wicked time. Headed up to the stands to see the beginning of the race and then when it started raining, headed inside to get warm. Awesome event!
Colin Snelson — Google review
Excellent views of most of the circuit, that itself provides plenty of on track action. My only gripe would be some escalators to at least get up a few levels of the very high grandstand, and some better food options, and maybe some beverage outlets in the grandstand itself (on a higher level)

The race was a sellout, after the race I visited the souvenir shop and boarded a train to leave the facility in about an hour. They did an EXCELLENT job managing the crowd and keeping the lines moving. It was very impressive.

This was a surreal moment for me as it was the very first time I watched my favourite sport, Formula 1 motor racing live. I was just concluding a business trip in China and had to extend the flight out of Pudong international to go to the UBS (then) racing circuit to watch the race over 50kms from where I was residing. I was so fortunate that this was the last season that the v8 awesome sounding cars were to be used before the dawn of the hybrid era. I was so exhilarated that instead of plugging the ear buds provided on entry, into my ears, I instead threw them in my pocket just to enjoy the engine sounds. It was indeed one of my life's numerous exciting moments. I just love the ambience, the crowds and of course the sounds at racing circuits, be it motogp, F1 or WRC. I hope F1 will soon return to that fantastic circuit.
The convenience store Zhouzhuang Water Village Special and Local Product Exhibition Shopping Center is located in the heart of the water town of Zhouzhuang. It is a popular tourist destination, with a wide variety of local products on display for sale. The store also sells specialties from the Wu culture, such as qigong and calligraphy.

The Shanghai Auto Museum is a must-visit for car enthusiasts, showcasing a diverse collection of vintage vehicles and classic cars. Located in the Shanghai Auto Expo Park at Anting Town of Jiading District, the museum offers an extensive look at the past 100 years of automobile history. With over 70 rare vehicles on display, visitors can explore the evolution of modern cars and learn about the assembly of different car parts.
Well curated museum and lots of information as long as you get a guide. Without a guide you're just looking at the eye candy. It's in the middle of nowhere if you are staying in downtown Shanghai so it may be a trek. If you love cars though, it's worth a visit. Although imyou may have seen all these cars before with the exception of the China specific cars.

Visited in February 22, on a Sunday. Started to get busy in the afternoon, but quiet in the morning. The museum shows great samples well preserved historical cars from different countries. It is definitely worth a visit if you like history of transportation. You also get a glimpse of what Shanghai looked 100 years ago for transport , roads and traffic.

Car museum located in the Anting Shanghai International Auto City area. Definitely a must see if you are interested in cars especially classic cars. 60 RMB for an adult ticket.
Open Tuesday-Sunday 9:30am to 4:30pm. Closed earlier in the day than expected so take note to get there earlier. I easily spent over 3 hours browsing the 3 floors of cars and information.
First floor has the history of the automobile from the wheel to the first diesel engine, auto transmission, and assembly line. Lots of cool stuff to see.
Next floor has a history of the automobile in China.
3rd floor is comprised of antique classic car collections and an extended range of miniature car models.
On the top level there is a learning and discovering area for children and adults which teaches you about how cars work and the parts of the car (engine combustion cycle, transmission, suspension, steering, etc.) All of the children's stuff is in Chinese however. Also F1 racing simulators on this level.
There is a gift shop by the entrance that sales lots of miniature car models.
Great if you can occupy yourself, not many guide options and only restroom I saw was on the top floor.
Definitely check it out for the classic cars alone.

Good storytelling from the birth of the car to the modern ones. They have a lot of old cars and a bit fewer really new cars. The area is a bit remote. The overall impression is very good, it's a must for car enthusiasts!
Shanghai Zhujiajiao Ancient Town Tourist Zone, often called the Venice of Shanghai, is a historic water town with a legacy spanning over 1700 years. This charming destination is renowned for its ancient temples, traditional houses, and picturesque bridges that showcase its cultural significance.
A good chill-out place to go in Shanghai area. Tourists can get to there by subway directly which is very convenient. Ancient buildings beside the river make people feel like walking in the past. Many restaurants and street foods are available, and tourists can even pay to get on a boat for river sightseeing.
Antony Li — Google review
If you are in Shanghai and have half a day to spare, an ideal destination will be Zhujiajiao 朱家角. As in other water towns, there are many bridges here. Fangsheng 放生(Release into Freedom) with its 5 round arches being the most prominent. There are folks peddling small fish🐟, tortoise 🐢 to visitors to be released into the waterways. Then there are others in small boats nearby ready to scoop them up for resale, how ironic. Well, just enjoy the scenery, boat ride and food in this ancient town.
Sukuan Hon — Google review
Great experience! The town is culturally enriching as the vendors live behind or above their shop. Families work together and it’s a tight knot community. Some owners even have microphones to get you to visit, it’s very interesting.
They have shops that cook fresh fish, crab and even turtle for you - literally you pick the one you want. I wasn’t a fan of this, but it’s culturally acceptable so it was interesting to look at. Not sure on pricing because I didn’t opt into this....
Need Weechat to purchase most things, cash is accepted at some places as well.
Restrooms are difficult to find, be sure to go when you enter.

Beautiful little water town with lots of history. Expect to do a lot of walking as the streets are a bit of a maze and lots of little stalls to stop at. Great for lots of local foods at a relatively low price (given it is a tourist location). There are paid attractions but the town itself is free to enter. I particularly enjoyed the soy sauce market/shop which sold many local marinated/pickled goods.
Getting to zhujiajiao from shanghai city was relatively simple, albeit a significantly long journey. We too the mtro line 2 from nanjing road to hongqiao airport station, then switched to line 17 to zhujiajiao station. Metro fare was ¥8 one way for an adult. Be reminded that bags need to go through scanning for metros, so leave sharp objects at home. Going into the town, there is the option to hail a ride, rent a bike, or buy a boat ticket. The little boat is 20 min long, ¥40 per person and will take you directly to the middle of the water town, so while pricey, i thought it was worth it.
You can send a postcard to yourself at the post office here (they offer international postage), and also visit some temples dating back to the ming/qing dynasty.
The night view is spectacular along the river, but the streets will be pitch dark (little to no street lights). Store owners are very friendly and will happily guide you to the metro station if asked. A bit of a walk back to the station (maybe 15 min at a brisk walk) but not too bad.
This was one of my favourite tourist spots during my stay in shanghai, so if you like old style buildings/environments, i highly recommend taking the journey here.

Just what you wanted to see when you decided to visit a historical part of China and not going too far away from Shanghai. Most people take the metro to come here, but instead I got a taxi from Didi app (Chinese Uber) and saved both time and my legs (specially on the way back after a few hours walking) and just relaxed on my way back to Shanghai. You will find lots of shops, tea houses, temples, bridges, gondolas and people, lots of people. Very enjoyable short trip , a perfect place for photos, street food, souvenirs and a glimpse of what life was like in ancient China.

A small beautiful ancient Chinese village at outskirt of Shanghai, settled at the bank or Caogang river & rivulets. Many older looking Chinese houses were lined at both side of river & transportation was by boat. A lot of stone arch bridges crossed the walkway for pedestrians. Many traditional Chinese shops, restaurants & emerging modern western restaurants were there. We were delighted to see a store selling dried snakes, sea horses, scorpions & various fishes. Pig legs, chicken feet, whole baby chicken, whole pork thigh etc. in different soya sauce were on display for sale. Also called Venice of Shanghai was a good place to visit.

This place was wonderful! I spent 3 days staying in a very nice small hotel next to the water(about 30 usd a night).
During the day you can walk around checking out the sights or stopping at a local coffee shop to relax. There's also restaurants and shopping you can do.
At night you can also enjoy the night views or go enjoy the night life. They have several bars and night clubs if you are into that.
Oh and they filmed Mission Impossible 3 here.. Cool!!

My favorite city I visited in China. It is small and simple but full of history and fun. The food is amazing and you will not find another city that is as beautiful as this one. The rivers at sunset make the city glow.
