How long is the drive from Nosara to Santa Teresa?
The direct drive from Nosara to Santa Teresa is 64.6 mi (104 km), and should have a drive time of 2 hrs 32 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Nosara to Santa Teresa, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with Playa Samara, as well as top places to visit like San Juanillo Beach and Hacienda El Viejo Wetlands, or the ever-popular Hacienda El Roble & Adventure Center.
Samara Beach is a popular beach destination with a horseshoe shape, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. The beach offers various amenities such as nearby shops and restaurants catering to tourists. It is important to note that some freelance parking personnel may ask visitors for a small fee to use their service. Visitors can enjoy delicious food at places like La Casita de Mr Wagner or drinks at the restaurant with access to the beach offering stunning views of the sunset.
Beautiful beach, very long. The northern portion is easier for swimming, in the southern portion waves are bigger and better for surfing.

Amazing place for a short or even long vacation. I was living in Sàmara and I had the best times. I could definitely live there.
The beach is great, the people are so lovely, the village is small but very nice.
You find delicious restaurants or homemade food - it’s a perfect surfing spot for beginners, for intermediates in the surroundings also - great hiking spots - waterfalls nearby - the best sunsets - island life on isla chora :) - full moon parties - what else? :) I think Sàmara is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been!!!! ❤️❤️

Beautiful beach! Such a large beach that you will have no problem finding a spot away from people. So many little restaurants along the beach. Small park next to the police station has freshwater showers. If you need to escape the sun or heat there are quite a few trees that line the beach to set up under. Saw surfers and horses.

This beach was a great find. It is pretty touristy so be warned if you are looking for a more local-like atmosphere. There are also those freelance parking guys walking around so you might have to pay a couple hundred colones to buy some peace. We ate at La Casita de Mr Wagner and it was delicious. We also drinks at the restaurant with beach access and blue umbrellas directly across from that food courts. My friend and I both agreed they were the best versions of each drink that we had ever had (mojito and piña colada). What a good place and pretty good location. We drove from Monteverde no problem.

I almost don’t want to write a positive review because I love Playa Samara so much, I’m dreading some day it will lose it’s magical, small, locally-owned, bohemian beach appeal. The waves are great for surfing newbies to intermediates, playing in the sand or drinking a tropical beverage from one of the nice restaurants right on the beach. I ❤️ Samara 🏝️

Lovely not too busy beach and town. It has an small island and a rock/coral break to protect the bay from large waves. There's still waves good enough to work on your surf board skills. Lots of restaurants and accommodations for vacations. Many expats live there.

Very beautiful. Less crowded than other beach towns like Tamarindo. Very warm water. Worth the drive.

A nice and quiet beach, great for walking, lots of little beach restaurants. Watch out for jellyfish in the waters.

Fun beach with quite a few restaurants. Town is right near the beach. Walk the entire length of the beach during low tide. Occasional wild horses. Some decent fishing and shells.

Lovely beach with a relaxing atmosphere. Lots of nice bars and restaurants around as well.

In December the water is really nice and warm but not like a bath water so it's refreshing. Easy waves so you are able to swim or just float. I visited for the day and found an area under some trees with shade to sit on a towel. It looked like you could rent chairs and boogie boards on the beach. Not crowded on a Monday.
Chad — Google review
My favorite beach, not too busy, great selection of restaurants lining the beach, waves not too big that you can enjoy the water.
Glenn Bartlett — Google review
The water is really nice and you are able to swim . The water is warm . But there should be more sitting areas .bring a towel to sit on the floor . There are couple of stores and restaurants around the area .we stayed the resort near we tried to walk but it was unsafe the roads are to narrow and grass is on slant. Will recommend ask the resort to book a taxi for your travel there . It cost us $10 to get there .

Beautiful, vibrant, and spacious beach with a good number of people—not overly crowded. Many surf rental shops right by the beach, as well as beachside restaurants/bars. Volleyball and soccer fields available. A safe beach, perfect for beginner surfers and boogie boarding.

9 cables of different speeds over the tree tops and a party of 6 older people with some a bit worried what to expect, but what a morning's fun we had. The staff were friendly, encouraging and safety conscious at all times which, made it a throughly enjoyable experience for us all.
It was extremely good value for money and included return transport from our hotel. The photograph package offered is also to be recommended with hundreds of photos made available online to download the next day.

Hacienda El Roble ATV and Zipline Adventure is great! The staff are very welcoming and accommodating! The nature views change with every turn on the ATV ride until you get to the top with sweeping views and where the zipline 9 run course begins. Felipe, the zipline master, is wonderful especially with the kids. Highly recommended tour tucked in the middle of nature!

Friendly staff and good ziplining experience. 9 different ziplines. Unfortunately, during dry season so everything was brown. Provided waters half way through which was much needed. Tried to make us feel as comfortable as possible; however, I feel like pushed us a little too quickly and not keeping safety as #1. Unfortunately, they did not stop my father soon enough and he ran into a tree! Luckily, it was with his feet and other than feeling sore was okay. Can't even begin to think if it was his head/neck.

My family of 10 had an absolutely fabulous time at El Roble. The staff is simply the best. Superb value for one of the best Ziplines in Costa Rico. The 9 runs give you fantastic views and excitement from speed to the finishing 2 minute one kilometer run. The staff are true experts who focus on your enjoyment while keeping the highest standards of safety. Highly recommend!

We tried to do an ATV tour but the quads had bald tires without any tread on them and they continuously got stuck in the mud (4 times in the first 15 minutes) and also would spin out of control all the time, it felt very unsafe. We were riding in a family of 4 with 2 children and noticed the ATVs had safety stickers that said “Never ride with passengers”. After about 20 minutes and needing help getting in-stuck 4 times we asked our guide to stop. We were charged full price without any offers or attempts to make our journey worthwhile. This was a total disappointment and do not recommend to anyone else.

My wife received a concussion after hitting her head on a tree limb which was in the path of the last zip line at the end of the run. It was obvious that this should have been removed. We have zip lined and rock climbed, etc, so knew what we were getting into so not a rookie mistake on her part - when they pulled on the brake line at the end of the zip line it actually forced the limb down and she hit it with the back of her head. Not a great day.
Rob Pierce — Google review
We went zip lining and atv two different days. So monkeys, alligators.
This is a great place. If you can only do one. Do the atv, you get up close to the animals! You are under the tree line, so it's not so hot.
Steve Gizzl — Google review
Zip lined today with a group of 21. It took us about 2 hrs to zip 9 lines. Beautiful views. The lines are great for beginners.

This place was awesome! We didnt know what to expect but we wanted to do ATV'g and Ziplining. Our hotel recommended them, and we booked them for a couple hours later. From the moment they picked us up (Jeffrey was great!), throughout the activities and the dropoff back at hotel was excellent. We did ATV'g with Eduardo and it was fun and he made us laugh with his dry sense of humor. He and 2 other guys also worked with us through the 9 zip lines on campus which were so much fun. They all had a great sense of humor and kept it light and fun, taking all the scare away. We had 2 70s and 80 yr olds in the group and they treated them like their own parents (did the zipline together with them to ensure safety, they had a much fun a all of us). It was supposed to be a 4 hour round trip, but they never rushed us. It was probably about 6 hours door to door to the hotel. Highly recommend if you are in tamarindo area.

We had a great time. We strongly suggest doing the ATV tour and the zip lines. Saw crocodiles, ducks, egrets, heron, and monkeys on the ATV tour. Our guide and all the zip line crew were wonderful.

What an adventure, we booked a ziplining through Erik at the Westin, and what an adventure. There were 4 of us who went, and we basically had the whole place to ourselves. Hacienda El Roble is a family run ranch with the nicest people ever. When we arrived, we had this lovely lunch spread awaiting for us, and although we were staying at an all-inclusive, we all agreed this was the best meal we had, nothing beats a home cooked meal. As we were getting ready for ride to the ziplining course, my son and I who are terrified of heights, were getting a little nervous. We met our tour guides, Felix and Eduardo, and if it wasn’t for them and putting our nerves as ease this could have been a very different trip. Eduardo is a carefree adrenaline junky, but also very caring and cautious. Felix was just amazing, they both took care of us and made sure we were completely at ease with everything. The course is about 8 lines, going through property, with varying speeds and lengths. Our kids had a ball with Eduardo, he had our son doing a superman pose by the end of the adventure. If you have done ziplining before this course may be a little boring, but for the first timers this is great way to start. I highly recommend going here.

Sooo beautiful. If you like climbing rocks, I highly recommend this spot, there are lots of rocks to scramble up and over for a great view of the sea. I suggest going at low tide for best rock access and the bonus of seeing amazing tidal pools filled with slugs, fish, crabs and snails. Perfect for a picnic if you're of a mind!

Easily reachable by car, this beach features a captivating hill offering breathtaking views. Although the beach is picturesque, swimming can be challenging due to the rocky seabed. Additionally, it's a tranquil spot with not many people around.

Ocean was so warm and beautiful. Cozy place. It was extremely beautiful with seeing stars from here.i brought snorkeling kit and saw many fishes on the left side... no bathroom. So quiet and private at night time.

One of the nicest beaches around, this place has sandy beaches nice rock formations and a nearby kiosk to get some reasonably priced refreshments. If there weren't so many rocks it would have gotten 5 stars.
Alon Levy — Google review
Beautiful place. The scenery is insane, mellow beach vibe and easy parking. Just a great place overall
Federico Cubas — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica and little visited. Its formation allows you to enjoy a sandy pass where there is a beach on both sides, with calm waters on the left and playful waves on the right. On the rocks at the end of the sandy pass you can walk and find incredible views. Do not forget your camera. If you like scenic photos, this is a special place. The beach is recommended for children, and it is also a fishing village where you can get fresh fish at very good prices. It is possible to do snorkeling if you have the accessories. Playa San Juanillo is located at the District of Cuajiniquil, Canton of Santa Cruz and Province of Guanacaste. The best way to reach to San Juanillo area and to move around in Guanacaste is by car. There is a final stretch of 34 km (21 miles) of gravel road to reach San Juanillo if you are using the way that comes from Santa Cruz or from beaches at the north. Although a 4WD SUV is the preferable vehicle, you can do it in a regular automobile. From San José and vicinities, you take the route to Santa Cruz in Guanacaste. From Santa Cruz to San Juanillo it is about a 1.5 hours’ drive. From Liberia International Airport, it takes around 2 hours to reach the place.

Beautiful location but please beware - our rental car was broken into, valuables that were in a bag in a locked covered boot stolen. Police didn't turn up so had to locate them ourselves to file the report. After reading other reviews this isn't a rare occurrence in this area unfortunately.

Hacienda El Viejo Wetlands offers an amazing boat tour through the river, where visitors can spot a variety of wildlife such as howler monkeys, iguanas, and crocodiles. The knowledgeable guides are able to point out and describe the animals seen during the cruise, making it an educational experience for all ages. After the tour, guests can enjoy a traditional lunch with options like chicken, beef or fish along with local Guana beer.
Great tour guide of the river. Saw over 20 crocodiles, howler monkeys, white face monkeys, the largest storks. Also, the lunch was very tasty. We then did the rum tour which was very good. Take home your own bottle of rum after mixing spices and aromatics.

Fantastic experience. The hacienda is breathtaking as are the grounds. We appreciated the coffee, juices and fruits presented to us upon arrival. The river tour was worth every penny and we stopped to watch the white faced monkeys do their thing! Big thank you to Henry and Miguel. Lunch afterwards- well, probably one of the best meals we had in Guanacaste. Outstanding staff.

We booked the boat tour the day before our arrival. Saw lots of howler monkeys, iguanas and crocodiles. Even crocodiles eating fish and babies as well. Our guide Daniel was very informative and our boat captain, Donald, found a lot of wildlife in the trees. He got us up close and personal with the crocs. This was followed up with a lovely casado lunch with chicken, beef or fish and some local Guana beer. The staff was extremely welcoming. When we drove up it was like they were waiting for us to arrive. Would highly recommend. Plan on spending more than the 1.5 hours the tour says --- that's just for the boat tour.

Really enjoyed all the things here. The hosts were engaging and actually seemed to like their roles. This was the best sugar cane exhibit we went to (and we went to 3 throughout our tours) fingers crossed for their rum making startup, it really is very good quality. The food and service was also great. It was neat to make tortillas as well!

My wife and I had such a great time here. We did the river tour and rum tour with lunch. I can't recommend this enough. You should note that the directions only take you to the beginning of the plantation. Once on El Viejo property, you should follow signs to the restaurant/house.

Hacienda El Viejo Wetlands is a private wildlife refuge that frames the edge of Palo Verde National Park. This RAMSAR site shelters many endangered species living in marshlands and creeks throughout the Tempisque river basin. El Viejo was acquired in 1979 by a Costa Rican family related to sugar cane production. From the original 18,000 acres, they segregated some 5,000 acres destined to become a sanctuary with the sole aim of protecting the habitat of many species of colorful birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and a wide diversity of flora. The gorgeous hacienda (plantation house) is a wonderful respite with beautiful views, food, beverages, and gifts before and after the river boat tours. Check it out!

The boat cruise through the river was amazing! We had a knowledgeable tour guide, so he was able to describe the animals we saw and more importantly, point them out. We saw white face capuchin monkeys, howlers, iguanas, multiple types of egrets and herons, bats, and tons of crocodiles! The kids were so excited to see all the animals theyve read about in books in the wild. This was one of the best animal cruises we've been on. Personally, I'd say it's second best to Yellowstone.

This was our first stop on our first trip to Costa Rica. We were a bit skeptical upon arrival, as we did not see any other tourists and had expected at least a few others. We were greeted and welcomed in for a traditional lunch, which was delicious, and drove over to the Hacienda wetlands (~10 minutes). We got on the boat and set off for the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable, charismatic, and accommodating! We had forgotten our binoculars in the car, so he allowed us to borrow his pair, and he suggested spots and angles for photography (we used a Canon 80D with a 55-250mm lens). We saw a variety of birds and a few monkeys, as well as crocodiles and iguanas. I would definitely recommend this tour!

We had a great day at Hacienda El Viejo. We started with a wildlife boat tour and saw so many animals. Then we did the cultural tour with sugar cane pressing and tortilla making. Next was a nice traditional casado for lunch under the trees. And finally the rum experience which was very insightful (drinking rum was fun too). Overall a very fun and enjoyable day.

We did the rum experience and really enjoyed the tour. At the end you have an opportunity to add spices/flavor infusions to a bottle to take home with you (additional charge). It has been about 6 months and we opened the bottle we bought earlier this afternoon….absolutely fantastic! This tour is well worth the visit and don’t miss out on the opportunity to take a bottle home with you!

Beautiful private hacienda with lots of wildlife and history. Visited as part of our Cigar & Rum Tour with CR Limo Company (different business). The cigar facility was not located here, but we did do lunch at the 150-year old Casona and a rum tasting.

Awesome experience. We would recommend to anyone coming to Guanacaste. Thanks to our super knowledgeable captain and guide, we saw so many animals, way exceeding our expectation. Birds, crocodiles, iguanas, white face monkeys, howler monkeys, cows... The lunch was also very delicious and authentic. Staffs were very nice and welcoming. Be prepared for the drive as there is a decent amount of unpaved bumpy road, part of the unique experience.

This was by far the best part of our trip to Costa Rica. Ciro and Antonio were outstanding. Ciro was so knowledgeable of all the wildlife while Antonio kept an eye out for hidden animals. When we returned the dinner was delicious. They really made this a memorable experience for my family. We can't thank you enough~

I LOVE working with Palo Verde Boat Tours. I facilitate an annual 1-week trip to Costa Rica through my my organization, Coastal Connections, and visiting Palo Verde Boat tours is the perfect last stop of our volunteer eco-tourism trip. This incredible family makes every boat tour unique and special. They will look for special birds and wildlife for you, honor special request and dietary needs at lunch, and they provide the real cultural experience of Costa Rica.
This year, the family created the most fun farm tour and planting experience for our group. The tour of the family farm was the perfect add-on to learn more about organic farming and the hard work that goes into our delicious lunch.

4 of us went there for the river boat tour and lunch. A bit out of the way to find but great people right from the start. Lots of crocodiles, iguana and birds. Palo Verde Boat Tours is an all-around impressive company.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very nice man who introduced us to the other staff; offered us coffee, FRESH juice, and cookies; and showed us the restrooms. He made sure we didn’t have any allergies (for lunch) and were satisfied with the menu. He was so kind and friendly, and helped me practice conversing in Spanish without passing judgement.
We followed the tour guide to the river - maybe a 7-10 minute drive.
Our boat captain was Manuel - he was awesome! I’m not sure if he was part of this company or if he worked for the national park. Either way, you will be lucky to be on his boat if you have the chance.
Our tour guide from Palo Verde (I’m so sorry, I didn’t catch a name) was awesome as well - he spoke several languages fluently, and provided our tour in both English and French (and spoke with Manuel using Spanish!)
Manuel and our guide worked as a team to identify many animals. We saw white faced monkeys, crocodiles, bats, blue herons, a flock of snow egrets (I think?), king fishers, sand pipers, tiger herons, Jesus lizards, etc.
Manuel was great at stopping the boat motor and getting super close to the animals without disturbing them. I got so many great photos on my camera - just an old Canon Rebel T1i. The photos posted here are from an iPhone 6. You don’t need great technology to get great pictures since you get so close.
After the boat trip, we headed back to the company/restaurant for lunch.
WOW. Probably the best meal we had during our 12 day Costa Rica stay. The family atmosphere and the traditional cooking methods are humbling and inspiring.
The food was down-right amazing. Chicken, patacones, rice, beans, squash medley, traditional tortillas, salad, and a pickle/onion/jalapeño mix... all of this for just my husband and I. (Due to covid they separate each group at different tables and prepare food separately for each table). It was a plethora of food, and we left stuffed.
We ended up buying three things from their little gift shop too - they sell $10 5x7” originals from a local water color artist, one of which we bought, along with a decorated wooden gecko and mask for home decor.
Overall, it was one of our favorite experiences. If you are hesitant, you won’t regret doing the tour - make sure you pay the measly $11 for the lunch too!!
Thank you so much Palo Verde Boat Tours! We will see you again when we come back to CR.

We (my girlfriend and I) loved this experience. We went during low tide and saw so many crocodiles, iguanas, birds, white faced monkeys and even some howlers. We were also lucky enough to see a pair scarlet macaws in their nest up in a tree. Would definitely recommend this if you like seeing wildlife. If however you weren’t able to see a variety of wildlife the staff has great hospitality and are very knowledgeable. The food was fantastic, maybe one of the best traditional dishes we had here. And we even got a demonstration on traditional pottery making. Recommended for all age groups!

Best pleasantly surprised experience in Costa Rica. While a 9 am boat float on brackish water was not the tour we looked forward to it was great. Francisco our guide helped us see howler Monkeys, birds galore, crocodile, baby crocs and a crock eating a fish. We also saw the white faced monkeys on each side of the river claiming territory and being very vocal to each other. The add on $11 for lunch was more than worth it, they were great with dietary restrictions. To add onto the great adventure we also watched them make it possible for wheelchair bound to go and they stopped to pick up trash in the river. I was glad we chose them as the operator.

Highly recommend. We did a private boat tour for birding photography and can’t say enough about our guide Rubin and captain Cesar. They both spotted so many different birds and wildlife. The lunch following our tour was amazing all authentic dishes and the food is locally sourced. The operation is family run and they employ many that live in the small town. There’s a true love for their community. Recommend booking directly with them, very accommodating.

I have been visiting this family business for more than 20 years, when they were taking their first steps in tourism, I discovered this beautiful family that works together and with the people where they cook authentic food for you. What they give you is a meal full of love, homemade food, they also count on you on the Tempisque River on the banks of the Palo Verde National Park where you can observe an enormous amount of life In this paradisiacal place you will be able to observe a lot of wildlife such as crocodiles, iguanas, monkeys, different birds, insects, trees and much more that will leave you needing more time to continue observing.I invite you to discover on your trip to Palo Verde National Park.

The staff was open and insight-giving and the animals super cute despite their often tragic background stories! It is sad to hear what the local „developers“ „plan“ to do with the perimeter around. We were invited to feel and think like children and discovered a new world within the sanctuary (symbiotic trees on one side of the path, parasites on the other).
I can only recommend to take the tour even though partially disturbing, it is enlightening if not eye-opening and the entry fee pays back to the animals within!

Sibu is an amazing facility whose main goal is to look out for the health and welfare of its animals, with the goal of releasing those animals into the wild if at all possible. I encourage you to check out what they do and donate if you are able. They have helped so many animals in the area and their heart is in the right place.

One of the highlights of our summer in Costa Rica was visiting Sibu. Highly recommend for those looking to better understand wildlife and plant life. We did a bunch of research and decided this was the right nature experience for us; we were not disappointed. We drove 2 hours from Playa Grande/Tamarindo and the roads were *very* bumpy so plan for extra travel time.
It was tough to find; we thought Google Maps had dropped us in the middle of nowhere because we didn't see the welcome sign or gate from our angle of entrance off the road, but volunteer Amy was at the gate and waved us in (phew!).
There were 7 people in our group (4 adults + 3 kids 6-11yo; note that another family mentioned that there's a min age requirement of 5yo in case you have littles). We were joined by a couple and another family of 4. Sibu tries to keep group sizes small, and only offer a couple tours a day and only a couple days a week, so snagging a spot is special.
A combo of Fabian and Amy (both extraordinary) delivered the +/-45min walking tour through the jungle; we saw monkeys, learned about a lot of plants, termites, the matapalo tree, families of coaties, and were offered coconut waters, juice, water.
Then Vicki, the founder/owner, delivers a quick +/-30min presentation in (what feels like) a treehouse balcony since it's a landing built around trees on the edge of a landing. We hear the founder's story, nonprofit origin story, risks and opportunities to monkey preservation, and so much more.
Then Fabian helped us visit the couple of monkeys (+/- 30mins) that they care for who are unable to return to the wild for a number of reasons. Hearing the stories of each monkey was my favorite part; equal parts heart-wrenching and promising.
Then we were gifted a calendar/family and invited to buy t-shirts; I'm bummed that I didn't act fast enough to snag one before we were whisked into the owner's truck to hitch a ride down the mountain back to the entrance gate.
We truly loved this visit and urge you to make it happen too. Couple notes from us: wear pants and/or bug spray (inc. on your face; my son got bitten on his face - the only place where we didn't apply!). There's a lot of tree coverage, but you should still wear sunscreen, closed toed shoes, hats, stay hydrated, pee before you get there (bathroom stop about an hour into the tour), book ahead, contact them directly if you have trouble. They are a legit, scrappy, exceptional nonprofit organization and could use your support.

It‘s a beautiful place to visit! The tour was great and really interesting! Lot‘s of stuff to learn about the flora and fauna of costa rica. We saw wild animals really close and heard about their storys. They always make sure, that the animals are fine and feeling save, so we had a really good feeling with this tour.
The founder and the volunteers do great and really important work there, thank you so much for the nice day!

Visiting Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary was wholesome, exciting, emotional and an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. This organization is so intentional about the experience they provide and they always put the animals first. The volunteers and employees here are so passionate about their work and the individual animals living there, which makes the tour experience super special. They’re funny, knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The owner, Vicky, shares her incredible story with the tour group and educates you about her furry residents, their environmental threats, their history, their tendencies and emotions. Vicky must be one of the most selfless people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. We got to meet spider monkeys, howler monkeys, a pig and more. We learned about local plants, fauna and flora. If I’m ever in Nosara again I will be back, it was worth every penny! Especially knowing our contributions go towards saving more animals, not exploiting and abusing them like many other animal excursions in the area.

Sibu is a wonderful place with a team of caring folks, many of the animals’ stories are sad but they’re given new life. Our family of five thoroughly enjoyed it during our Costa Rican vacation in August. Bring lots of bug spray! So worth it.

This was the highlight of my trip in Costa Rica. I learned so much and am really impressed with the incredible work the team at Sibu is doing for the welfare of animals in the area. Was lovely to be followed around all day by so many cute, white-nosed coati. :)

My friends and I visited the sanctuary while on vacation in the area. Staff were friendly, and the fellow who led our tour was funny and kind. The tour starts along a walking trail of a few hundred metres, then up a total of 120 steep stairs (my friend counted). About halfway, there is a break and staff provide coconut water straight from the coconut, juice boxes, or bottled water (I’d recommend they provide a higher ratio of water to juice to be more accessible to those with dietary restrictions). At the top, the owner shares an engaging presentation on how the sanctuary came to be, and what threats the wildlife face in the area. As someone who does facilitation for a career, I was impressed with how well-done the presentation was, and how it followed some basic principles of learning. The staff are very clear and reasonable about boundaries related to photo taking (no selfies with an animal, no photos showing the owner’s house), and it was a delight to see so many monkeys and wildlife. The owner is very kind, and even led me aside for an extra chance to photograph an iguana who was passing by in the trees. It is a wonderful service they are providing to vulnerable animals in Costa Rica, and I hope they continue to get the recognition and support they deserve.

The walk is lovely and the animals are well cared for. We learned a lot. Children are welcome over the age of 5 and we brought our young kids. It was a bit hot with not many liquids and included a hard climb uphill but good for grit. However during the presentation, there were descriptions of gang abuse of animals and very graphic photographs of electrocuted monkeys. This is R rated content. Parents should receive a warning that graphic and upsetting content is included in the presentation so they can make a decision whether to expose their children. In our case one parent asked to fast forward past the graphic videos and the presenter said “they need to know about this. In my view and the view of the other parents who watched this presentation, children do MOT need to espoused to stories of gang violence c animal abuse and graphic photos of burned electrocuted monkeys with raw flesh exposed. I’m not even sure adults need to be exposed to that information. I do think it is important to be helping animals and working to protect them from electrocution and abuse- and I believe there are more responsible ways to disseminate this message. I’m always grateful for people doing the hard work to protect animals and I happily contribute to that cause here and elsewhere.

We had an amazing visit to Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary. This was a very eye-opening and educational tour. The work that the team is doing at Sibu is very important for the monkeys of Costa Rica. The visit started with a tour of the property, then we enjoyed an educational talk about the work of Sibu. The visit concluded with getting to see the monkeys at the sanctuary. We visited with our 9 year old daughter who thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the monkeys and the conservation taking place here. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Nosara.

We visited Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary as a family during our recent visit to the Nosara region of Costa Rica. This was an incredible experience for our family and we loved learning about their conservation efforts for the area. This was a great tour. We enjoyed seeing the property, learning about the conservation efforts, and seeing the animals. As we've driven around Costa Rica, we've kept our eyes open for the monkey bridges. Our 9 year old daughter is now inspired to work in animal conservation and she loved learning so much! This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica!

Wonderful sanctuary! The founder, Victoria, and her staff work tirelessly for these animals that have been injured or abused. When the animals are back to good health they place them back into their natural habitat. They have howler monkeys, porcupine, badger, birds and many others. The educational part of the tour was well put together and informative. Be aware it’s a moderate walk, though the stairs through the tour are many and if you’re slightly out of shape like this gringo, it can be challenging. Kudos for the work they do!

A bit difficult to find, look for the sign with the monkey face. I believe it’s green. But so worth the adventure getting there! Our tour guide was Mauricio and he was very informative, friendly, and personable. IAR is doing so much good work in the Nicoya peninsula and beyond. Please do take a moment to come support their organization. The tour allows you to get to view some of the birds, howler monkeys, squirrels, ducks, etc that they are rehabilitating.

I had no idea that one of the greatest causes of death and injury for monkeys is touching exposed electric transmission wires that are not shielded or insulated. These folks nurse the injured back so that they can rejoin their troop. They also keep data on this problem so that specific trouble spots can be identified and prioritized for upgrades that might prevent future injuries or death.
Hugh Conway — Google review
The people here do care about animals to get healthy and back into wilderness. Some animals are not anymore able to get into the jungle and get a forever home. The fee for entry and getting information and seeing the creatures from monkeys to colorful birds and parrots is a good investment for the nature. I respect this type of work a lot.

The Old Dump Road, Guanacaste Province, Nosara, 50206, Costa Rica
Long, sandy beach lined with trees, attracting visitors for surfing, walks & sunset viewing.
This beach is one of the main reasons Nosara has become a world famous destination. It is huge, wide and the consistent waves make it very popular for new surfers as well as experienced ones.
Zev Paiss — Google review
Nice sea, but not recommended for children, and honestly neither for those who are looking for some shade, as there are just few huts along the beach. And the surrounding area is covered in dust, which you are going to breath full time here. Definitely not a blue zone, not an healthy air, especially for children, and the most paradoxical thing is how overpriced all the area is. Honestly to me looks like a lot of unreasonable hype which is beneficial just for the few property managers who are riding the wave cashing in. Been traveling for 8 years in a row, circumnavigating the world, and there are places way nicer and healthier, and they are going to cost you 1/5. The best part is, you don't need to go too far from here to find them. Just sharing my experience as a long term traveler.

Amazing, open and extensive beach. Perfect to see sunsets. It's so big, that it's never crowded. The nice thing is that this is a tourist gathering spot and there is a lot of social and mingling, within a laid and relaxed vive. Upmarket feel. Perfect for surfing. Walking distance from restaurants and hotels.

If you’re a surfer, this beach is perfect. Good for beginners too and Nosara has places to rent gear and teach you. Nosara is a great walkable town to check out while in the area—howler monkeys throughout.
When it’s at low tide at this beach, it is massive. Lots of room to explore, including the tide pools and rocks to the right side of the beach. It’s miles and miles long so I can’t speak for the whole space. It’s popular and a bit on the busy side especially once it’s high tide and there’s less sand to sit on, though I visited the week of Christmas which is going to be busy. It’s most busy at sunset.

National park rich in flora & fauna & covering nearly 49,000 acres, established in 1990.
Super cool river tour with our tour guide Jacob. Got to see crocodiles and monkeys...birds and lizards as well

Amazing ecosystem, lots of animals- tons of different herons, migrating and local birds, crocodiles, iguanas, monkeys, and even saw a deer. It can get hot and more dry than the majority of tropical Costa Rica, but makes for a unique ecological environment. Absolutely worth checking out, only about 1.5 hours from Lake Arenal, even closer to Volcan Tenorio National Park.

Great park, in total I saw three other groups of people on the day I went, I arrived first thing in the morning. I went on the first 2.1km hike which if I were you I’d pass on - very buggy and not much to see unless you stumble across wildlife. I also went to the lookout labeled #1 on their map, a short but tiring hike up. Bring lots and lots AND LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER. Hot! Also a lot of bugs so either a lot of bug spray or a long sleeve. I also did the boat tour which was cool, the guide had a great eye.
All in all I say an array of wildlife.

The approximately two-hour boat trip is highly recommended; the guide and captain go to great lengths to show you some of the birds, monkeys and crocodiles that can be found in the national park.

Very interesting wetland national park. We saw a lot of wildlife and the trails were well maintained. Not very touristy (I think we were alone in the park!) Bring your bug spray and look our for crocodiles! We went all the way to the Tempisque river, such a calming hike.

Great park we took a tour with a boat ride and had a good time. I am not sure you would see anything without the boat. The dirt road getting there was fun and is an adventure in itself.
Tim Kelly — Google review
What else is there to say other than this place is absolutely breathtaking? An absolutely MASSIVE bird watching wetland is the central focus of this beautiful park.
It is quite a way off the beaten trail, but with boat tours available, hiking trails, and a picturesque wetland how can one pass it up?
It is also a beautiful display of the biodiversity of the area. On my way driving there, we went from a dense jungle down to a more arid landscape. The micro-biomes of changing flora are as much of a treat as the land itself.
Make sure to educate yourself of the dangers of this land though, like the Acacia Tree, which maintains a symbiotic relationship with ants and will harm you if disturbed. Or the snakes that hide in the tall grass. Be prepared! And have fun exploring this magical place!

It's hard to write a review of this place because in one hand you have beautiful nature, places to walk/hike around and great views; but in the other hand you have so many mosquitoes that will not leave you alone a second and will make you feel miserable! I recommend to go during January or so (when it's very windy!) so first confirm with the local station when is windy so you really enjoy it. The people is very nice, super friendly and the food is always delicious, however the infrastructure really need maintenance. The rooms and specially the bathrooms are very abandoned!
Stefanny Castro — Google review
We travelled here mid February. We were not bothered by bugs at all, but recommend wearing long pants due to prickly plants along the trail. We drove in from the west side (Highway 922) and it was about 30km of gravel roads & potholes. You absolutely need 4 wheel drive to get in here or else go on a boat tour. The park entrance does lock the gate at 4pm so plan to be leaving the park much earlier to be safe. It's about $13.50 USD to enter the park if you drive in. There are 7 hiking trails under 2km in the park. There is also a research centre that staff and volunteers stay overnight at, the washrooms are located here as well. We saw several monkey species, scarlet macaw, lizards, wild ponies and so many different kinds of birds. 4/5 stars because the roads are so bad.
Emily Pear — Google review
A great nature park with plenty of wildlife, great views and dense forest. Several trails, with lookout points, and plenty of roads throughout the park to see everything. In addition, there is a paid boat tour available at the far side of the park, with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. On our 80 minute tour we saw alligators, green herons, iguanas and monkeys. Highly recommend paying this park a visit.

The park is amazing, the tour was okay. We were only on the boys tour for about 40 minutes which wasn't enough time to see much, although we did see a fair amount. Hiking trails & spelunking feature at this scenic stop known for its network of limestone caverns.
Pretty cool experience, it was a really nice hike all the way up to the entrance of the cavern. The guide took us to an amazing view point and shared a lot of interesting facts during the hike.
I'd recommend to visit this place on a 4x4 or at least an SUV, a sedan might not go all the way up to the parking lot where the hiking starts, this means you'll have to walk from the entrance of the national park all the way up where the guided tour starts and this will take time (35-45 minutes maybe)
Once inside the national park, the whole trip took us about 4-5 hours, driving up hill to the parking lot, hiking, resting at the view point, going in and out the cavern, walking back to the car.
If you wanna go inside the cavern, you must pay the guided tour which was about $30 p/p. The schedule for going down the cavern is 8am-1pm, if im not wrong you must arrive to the entrance of the cavern before 1pm (double check by calling to the national park).

The experience was very nice. The people at front was super nice and friendly. The road to the park was OK, not that good. I mean there were some parts of the road that were full of potholes. The fee for nationals just for the trail is 1300 colones. For foreigners is 1500. For the whole package (hiking, climbing down the caves) is 18000 colones. The experience was good and there's a spot where the view is amazing

Very rustic cave experience. Not for non adventurous. Have to climb down a very long ladder to get to cave. The cave is great to see but extremely slippery and dangerous. Need to where good treaded shoes. We loved it because of the novelty, Our friends hated it. Go with a sense of adventure. The climb up the ladder to get out is strenuous.

Visiting this park was a unique experience for me. I had never before explored a cave of this size. Overall, I found it to be an enjoyable excursion, although I thought it was overpriced and too short. Here are some tips/things you can expect: you pay park entry at the main entrance (about $14 US). The attendant there doesn’t speak much English at all. From there you can either park and walk up the entire way or drive up to one of two parking lots. You need a 4x4 or at least a vehicle with good traction and ground clearance to get past the main entrance lot. The top lot was full, so we had to park in the middle lot. It was about a 2km uphill walk from there to the caves. It’s a little strenuous, so bring lots of water. At the main cave we paid an additional $30 US per person (cash only) for the tour. The last descent into the cave is at 1pm, so arrive at the cave entrance before then. You climb down a ladder, safely harnessed in and belayed from above. At the bottom we were taken on a 10-15 min tour of the cavern, hardly going more than 100 meters. And that’s it. It’s very warm in the cave, so bring water and wear light clothing. Wear hiking boots or running shoes. Headlamps are provided. Overall, a neat experience, but the experience that you get for the price leaves one wanting.

10 km hike, 100% worth the price and time.
I went there in the rainy season so, you have to book in advance and arrive before 11 am in order to do the caves tour, be prepared for a very steep hike and bring enough water.

The park was absolutely beautiful and we also did the cave tour! We had two others join us on the tour who spoke Spanish, but little English, and we spoke English and very little Spanish. Our guide Oscar was so kind and told us so much information about the park on the way to the caves and he happily repeated himself in both English and Spanish to accommodate all of us. We saw a big group of howler monkeys both on the way to the cave and the way back. We drove up the first few kilometers of the trail to a different parking lot to shorten the hike, but I wouldn't recommend this unless you have a 4x4 vehicle! It was very steep at times and extremely bumpy due to parts of the road being washed out. The cave was an awesome experience -- some of the formations in there were insane (both in size and shape!) and it was a very hands on experience given that you have to climb down and up a couple ladders. I am scared of heights, but the safety measures taken were very good and that put me at ease! Caves are a bit slippery so I would recommend wearing sturdy shoes and also shoes that you don't mind getting dirty!
Also, you can inquire for more information at the information point about doing other tours organized by the park employees. They offer a tortilla tour (actually done at Oscar's parents house!), which we became very interested in doing once Oscar told us about it. When we finished the cave tour, we inquired about the tortilla tour at the information point and were sad to find out that you normally have to book this tour 24 hours in advance and that the tour runs with a minimum of 4 people. However, the woman at the desk called Oscar's mother and she invited us (2 of us) over right away (11 minute drive from the park). She spoke very little English, but we had the most amazing time! She taught us how to make a traditional corn tortilla and also prepared a lunch of rice, beans, salad, cheese, and fresh natural orange juice for us. It was the most amazing experience we had on our entire trip (even better than volcano hikes, rio celeste, etc.) Oscar's family are an amazing bunch of people and we are so grateful they welcomed us into their home! I highly recommend the cave tour and the tortilla tour!

Fantastic experience! Don’t hike in Feb if you can as it was 96°F and a 1-hour home to the cave. Super humid!
Cave was super cool. You climb down a ~55ft ladder w a safety rope to get in - definitely the coolest part of the cave.
Tour was in Spanish but we spoke enough and understood 90% of the tour.
Plan for extra time. We were an hour late waiting to get out of the cave as it’s one in one out.

Outstanding place of beauty. Highly efficient Covid 19 measures at the entrance. Option to visit the caves or walk to the viewing point. The caves are open even though it is the rainy season.
I opted for the walking circuit 2km from the entrance and should only be attempted in a 4x4 as very steep and muddy (it had rained two days previously). Plenty to see on this route capuchin and howler monkeys, agouti, iguanas and woodpeckers.
The view from the lookout is incredible and worth the walk. A few mosquitos and flies but nothing repellent won't sort out. Finally plenty of butterfly's throughout.

The Processing plant "Diria Coffee Tour" in Costa Rica offers an educational and informative experience for coffee lovers and those curious about the coffee-making process. Led by Dennis, a coffee master, the tour provides detailed insights into every stage of coffee production, from seed to final product. Visitors get to taste different types of high-quality coffee grown at Diria and learn about the industry. The tour is both entertaining and educational, with a good mix of humor and audience participation.
Whether you LOVE coffee or just drink it, this is an experience you shouldn't pass up. Not only is the coffee they process here is amazing, they show you the various steps in its creation. Equally as awesome as their coffee is their tour guide, he was so helpful, kind, very personable, and knowledgeable.

This tour was great! 1.5 hours from tamarindo - the tour was so informative, interactive and fun. Dennis is the man!! Amazing tour guide. Learning the tasting process was by far my favourite part! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Great experience whether you are a coffee lover or you’re just beginning to like coffee. Dennis is very knowledgeable and keeps things educational but entertaining. Loved everything about it!

An absolute must. Dennis has perfected the art of the tour and delivers very interesting information with a good mix of humour and audience participation thrown in.
I love coffee but had never given much thought as to how it is grown and harvested. The tour takes you from the growing of the coffee beans through every step of the process to the finished product where you get to sample some of the high quality coffee grown right here at Diría.
There is much more than coffee being grown here though, and a lot of work that protects the environment and the people which is a really great thing to see.
My advice is to REALLY listen to what you are told if you want to stand the chance of winning a bag of coffee too!

Brought my family. Amazing tour. We walked away with 45 lbs of 4 different green beans to roast. I'm no expert at roasting but I have been roasting for 5 years now and about 200lbs so far. We came home and opened the bags to see that the beans are not uniform at all and all shapes, colors and weird pieces. I sat and sorted and picked only the best looking beans then I roasted. We tried the Peaberry first, My wife and I think this is the top 5 coffees we've ever roasted yet. We drink strictly cappuccinos.

This is one of my best experiences in Costa Rica. This tour is a must do for all coffee lovers and curious minds. Dennis is a coffee master & connoisseur, his tour and information were detailed & informative. This is definitely an educational tour where you leave with so much information on the coffee making process from the seed to the final outcome. The tasting taught me a lot too & I enjoyed talking about the different types of coffee and industry in general. This cooperative and ethical supply chain is an eye opener. Dennis is really the best! Make sure to buy some coffee, the favourite ones you like after the tasting. They’re sooo good, you want to take them back with you & remember the great times in Costa Rica when you drink your cup. Highly recommended.

Loved it. We visited with the family and loved the very informative tour that Dennis gave. We do like our coffee so we have an interest to know more and learned lots. It’s low key yet from the heart and such a worthy cause as well to support local coffee farmers. We did not book. We just showed up and were lucky Dennis was available and willing to show us around. We brought some coffee beans home too, can’t wait to grind them.

Great tour given by Daniel! I was able to email him about setting up a tour for the family on the weekend. He responded quickly with several options. The price was very reasonable. It was easy to find with the directions link he sent. Daniel gave a very through explanation of each step of how coffee is processed. It was really fascinating! We got to see all the different parts of the processing plant. The tour of course ended with a tasting of several different kinds of their coffee and further explanations of the proper way to drink coffee. We were able to buy their products at the end of the tour including coffee liquor and honey. All of which made great gifts for the holidays! Thank you Daniel for a great experience!

The Samara Info Center folks are the best, Chris and Brenda are helpful, knowledgeable and can get you the most accurate information or booking for your trip to Costa Rica. My family has used their services for 7 years now and the service has been exceptional. Never a fee for their services and they are fast and efficient. By all means reach out to them for info on places to stay, airport shuttles, adventures and places to eat and explore, even car rentals!

When it’s time to leave a wonderful vacation the only way to do it is with a fabulous ride to the airport! I can’t say enough positive things about Brenda and Samara Info Center. They made everything so easy when I booked my ride from Samara to the Liberia Airport. My driver Michael was so kind. He made sure I was comfortable the whole time asking if I needed water or to stop for a bathroom. As an extra bonus, he was a great tour guide telling me about things as we drove through them on the way to the airport! I will always use Brenda and Samara Info Center from here on out when I visit Costa Rica!

When we got a late start planning our Costa Rica trip, Brenda saved the day by finding lodging, tours and transport. The operators she chose were all very good. Brenda supported us while in CR by confirming everything the day prior so we had no issues. She was available anytime by phone to answer our questions and provide advice. Brenda's help made our travels worry free and relaxing. I highly recommend working with Samara Info Center!!

Brenda and her crackerjack team at Samara Info Center effectively handled all our local transport needs for a wedding party of 20+ people. She and her team consistently went above and beyond our expectations in every way, with airport transfers, activities bookings, and even renting an electric golf cart for zipping around between Samara and Carrillo. Brenda's English is flawless and her customer service is impeccable. And she is always super-nice and very communicative. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Wow. I cannot recommend this highly enough (or Brenda who is the woman who helped us repeatedly throughout our 5 week stay). When we first arrived in Samara there was no shortage of people to give advice and connect us with services, however, all of these involved a significant up-charge (I did my own research for a week on bike rental prices). The Samara Info Center did not have an up-charge, responded on What'sApp right away, and even helped us out of a tight spot at the end of our trip. Brenda helped us with the following things (and more):
- renting bikes AND having them delivered to our place
- advice from a local tour operator on the safety of a waterfall hike (we took ourselves to the waterfall, which we might not have felt comfortable doing without advice)
- scheduling a turtle nesting tour (twice!)
- scheduling a last-minute airport transfer when our driver bailed on us the morning of the flight (WOW)
Please use the link to tip at the end of your stay, Brenda was absolutely wonderful! THANK YOU

Brenda helped us out in 2021 when we visited Samara. We have been back to Costa Rica twice since and Brenda was very helpful for us even when visiting other areas. Thanks for all your help Brenda!

Brenda was incredibly helpful in assisting me to organize a yoga retreat in the area of Samara. She helped the participants secure transportation to and from the airport, find accommodation in town before and after the retreat, and assisted them in planning their trip to the cloud forest.

My favorite beach, not too busy, great selection of restaurants lining the beach, waves not too big that you can enjoy the water.

Playa Carrillo is a picturesque beach in Costa Rica, known for its sandy shores and palm tree-lined coastline. It's a popular spot for families due to its gentle waves and low tide, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Visitors can enjoy the wide, long stretch of fine sand with plenty of space to relax or play in the waves. The beach offers ample shade from the abundant palm trees and has picnic tables for visitors to use.
🌴🌅🌊... what a beautiful beach. Breathtaking sunsets. Perfect swim. Easy to get in/out - parking is just on the beach. Lots of local businesses nearby to refresh in.
The coral reef provides abundant marine life.

It’s in the top 3 best beaches of our trip. We were staying 5 minutes away in Samara so we had an opportunity to visit it a few times. Beautiful, wide, long fine sandy beach and not a lot of people. Playing in the waves was fun! We had a picnic, walked the beach, took a nap under the trees (watch out for the coconuts) and watched the sunset. Lots of trees for shade, concrete tables & chairs and no shortage of parking along the beach. There are no restaurants but we saw some food & drink carts closer to the end. You gotta come and play here!

Absolutely pristine beach. I don’t think I have ever been to a beach so clean and so beautiful. The water was a great temperature, there are some palm trees that provide share, there are wonderful little crabs spread throughout the beach. What is not to love? If you do visit, please help keep this beach just as beautiful, it would be a great loss if Playa Carrillo became dirty like many other beaches around the world.

Out of all the 7 beaches we've been too in Costa Rica, this one tops them all! The water is clear + the sand is very soft and light. There's also a lot of shade under the palm trees, where you can easily set yourself up.

My new favorite beach in Costa Rica! The thing that struck me about Playa Carillo is how long and wide it is. There's tons of space and not that many people. The beach is lined with palm trees (and they're actively planting more), so there's shade and picnic tables everywhere. The best spot for sunsets is the part of the beach near Nammbu hotel. Because of that there will be more people there, but it's still very quiet. This beach is perfect for solo, couples or families that just want to go and relax at one of the nicest beaches on the planet. If you want to surf or party, go to Santa Teresa. If you want to relax and enjoy nature, come to Playa Carillo.

We loved the chill vibe, coconut trees, calm water, and long walks on this beach! Also...if you see an older gentleman walking under the trees with a clear plastic container full of coconut bars wrapped in plastic, don't say no - they are delicious! We went back the next day hoping to meet him again, and bought 4 more packs!

I had a magical morning with the Macaws and other beautiful birds that call the recovery centre's area home. Marta was my knowledgeable guide and gracious host. She explained the important work of the centre and the unique features of the remarkable birds in the area.
Macaws are stunningly beautiful and have strong personalities so they are so much fun to observe in this remote, but worth-the-trip location.
I highly recommend the experience to nature lovers of any stripe.

We went for a morning tour to support their work in restoring the macaw population in Costa Rica. We paid $20 dollars plus a tax which totaled about $25.
The slideshow has interesting info. Then the guide fed the macaws who were released from the center. The scarlet macaws are beautiful. We only saw the scarlet macaws this morning. Because it's mating season, the breakfast feed was the only thing we saw this morning. It took about 1 hour.

Visited here today. Booked online through the website. Was very easy to do. Came from Samara it was a 40 minute drive but we left a bit early as the road there is a little rough. Our guides were amazing and they did a fantastic job educating us about the Macaws. We then got to watch them have a feeding and got to take some pictures. If you have a good camera be sure to take it. We used our phones and the images just dont capture the beauty of the birds. Also noted that the guides are there volunteering. Makes the enthusiasm they have for the birds even more impressive. Thanks for the great time!!

Our family really enjoyed seeing Red Macaws up close and the presentation at the beginning was interesting and informative. We even got to see some White-Faced Monkeys and Howler Monkeys who were hanging around when we visited.
Marta was a wonderful host and educator. You learn about the Macaw Recovery Network charity and their conservation work—repopulating Costa Rica's red and green macaws, and more recently yellow naped parrots. It's hard work and a long-term project that is having a positive impact on Costa Rica.
I read some reviews about the entrance fee being high but this is a donation that is going directly to the conservation efforts and we appreciated where our $$ were going. The little shop with paintings and handmade gifts has some nice items for sale with the proceeds going directly to the charity.

Playa Hermosa is a surfer's dream come true! The waves here are consistently excellent, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience for all levels. The beach's vast expanse provides plenty of space to catch waves without feeling crowded. Beyond the surf, the beach's natural beauty and serene atmosphere make it an ideal spot for relaxation after a thrilling day in the water. The sunset is breathtaking! A word of advice: don't put your gear too close to the water, as the water tends to rise on the beach in the afternoon. Been to 12+ beaches so far in CR and really Loved this beach. The reasons: at low tide the beach is expansive and easy to walk /firm sand. They have little huts that you can use to get some shade (we arrived at 9:15 and some were free), sandy bottom with no rocks on main part of beach, nice waves for beginner surfers and great for swimming. Lots of parking as well. Good restaurants nearby.

Pura vida

A beautiful place, beaches different from those of Spain. Town full of surfers very good atmosphere. The only thing is the streets with many potholes and holes. But overall good experience. Now in the rainy season the storms are very strong, worth seeing, feeling and listening. Pure Life

This was a fantastic experience. The workers were very friendly and a lot of fun and did well picking up on who was nervous in the group. I’ve done ziplining before in Jamaica but this beat that by a landslide. Worth the money and definitely worth purchasing the photos! We also saw monkeys from the treetops which was a great bonus.

I would rate higher than five stars if I could. This is an amazing place with very friendly staff, it was first time zip lining for all of us, and I am scared of heights so it was a challenge for me. There is a small practice line next to base camp where they give you all the safety info and demonstrations, then you have a go at ground level before they take you upto the lines in the jungle.
The guides were very supportive and helped me get going and after the second zip line there was no stopping me.
It was a great morning out, and the groups they take up are not too large so your not waiting in a queue for your turn at the top of a tree, there was a total of 6 adults and 3 children in our group. Also, the views of the jungle and Pacific ocean are amazing.
They take you to the top of the tour in a pickup and then you zip your way down back to the base camp, so no hiking up big hills which is always a bonus.
They have a great variety of zip line heights and speeds with the final one being on a surf board, you also have the opportunity to try the superman style of zipping.
Really reasonable at $50 each for adults, which is about £37 each.... well worth the money.
The cafe on site is really good and in my opinion not over priced with great food and friendly staff, they even accommodated us by cooking from the breakfast menu at lunch time, I would recommend the fresh smoothies and coconuts with straws, and if it's on the menu the chocolate brownie with ice cream is AMAZING.

Emmanuel, Manuel, Selman and Fabricio for a fantastic time!!!!!! And to our amazing guide, Ronny. Fun, exhilarating and breathtaking!
These guys are incredible! And safety is the #1 priority. I was so nervous to do this and to take my 5 kids!!! (The youngest being 3) but everyone did incredible with the help of these guys! DO IT!!!!!! You won’t regret it! There are 10 zip lines… all amazing! #5 was the best ♥️ And pay to get the photos at the end! So worth it!

Great friendly staff, who make the whole experience better. They have 8 lines, all of which were unique, and one of them was really loooong. They make it fun as to offer different ways of sliding, like Superman, or wrapped around each other , or no hands, or over a surfing board. The interaction with the customers is great, they make you laugh, even if you’re terrified.
It’s $50 per person, and $20 for all the photos if u want. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area and have about an hour and a half to spare.

This was our first zip lining experience and it was amazing ! The guides were funny , friendly , very knowledgeable and made us feel safe . They were all bilingual, their dad built the whole course and the sons run it . The $20 extra for picture is totally worth it, they came out amazing . We had such a fun time and have zip lined since and this place was by far they best !!

Great tour. This was our third canopy tour in as many visits to CR and while it wasn't the longest, the crew was very professional and very fun. We had the tour to ourselves, so that made it pretty special as well. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for something to do between surfing and shopping that isn't going to consume your entire day. Highly recommend.

Fun tour of an interesting place. NATUWA works to rescue animals, including those that have been taken from the wild and raised as pets. Lots of beautiful macaws and toucans as well as several types of mammals. The tour guides were volunteers on a short stay, so they were as excited as about the tour as we were.
Randall Reese — Google review
Set in a Costa Rican rain forest, this wildlife sanctuary is home a variety of animals. There are two different tours - one includes an opportunity to see their sloths. The tour we took advertised jaguars and macaws. There was only one jaguar and the design of her exhibit made it difficult to spot her, but she was very pretty. There were lots of macaws, both in exhibits and wild. They also had a selection of primates, a llama, and a tapier. There were also wild howler monkeys in the area, just be sure not to stand underneath them as they find it funny to pee on humans. 😂
Sally Garrison — Google review
An amazing animal sanctuary in Costa Rica to volunteer and visit. Spent a week here as a volunteer. The work is physical and extremely rewarding. You get to learn a lot about the hundreds of animals and really feel like you're contributing to the upkeep of the place, which is a nonprofit. They aim to free as many of the animals as possible back into the wild. They genuinely care about what they do. A lot of the animals they release stay in the area so you can see plenty of them, including sloths, monkeys and macaws all around you. They're everywhere. I can't recommend this place enough.
Josh Feldberg — Google review
Was in Costa Rica for a cruise day and wanted to see wildlife and sloths in particular. Hired a local driver to bring us and he was excellent. We were booked in for 1pm on Saturday and we were checked in and assigned a guide quickly.
The place was beautiful and very well maintained. However we felt like we were herded through each exhibit and were given very basic information about each animal enclosure ( how many animals were there, what they eat and how long they live in captivity and in the wild). The guide basically read most of this off her phone.. We got no information on the sanctuary and how the animals get to be there and felt that overall it was disappointing. We saw 3 sloths but they were so far up the trees that they were just blobs! We were in and out in 40 minutes and left feeling that it was not worth the $68 entrance for 2 and the cab ride out.. This could be such a better experience with an overview of how the preserve works, how volunteering work, info on rehabilitation etc… and a few animals closer up.
Larena Hickey — Google review
Up close and personal with lots of critters. Support this sanctuary that rehabilitates, when possible, wildlife, returning them to the wild! These animals are from illegal possesion, poachers , used as pets, smuggled in, etc. Truly sad what people do!
We had an excellent tour with an English-speaking volunteer, Luka. I love his passion and great extent of knowledge. We had a very relaxed, casual, informative tour with this friendly young man.
If you love animals, take the time! Learn about them! See them up close! Help them! Make a difference!

NATUWA is a non profit organization and not a zoo. They recover exotic animals in bad shape or out of their country (smuggling) for control reintroduction in the nature. It's a noble mission. With the price you have a guide that explain the situation of each animal and how they will reintroduce them in the nature. Worth every penny. Aaron was our guide [picture].
Denis Bellerose — Google review
I saw some mixed reviews prior to booking our tour, but we were thoroughly impressed. We do believe that they are doing a good job in protecting the animals who have been harmed and injured in the past. Many of these animals had been taken from personal residences and shame on those individuals who wanted to treat them like pets or a food source. These amazing creatures are not able to be released back into the wild, so for the individuals who want to complain about a sanctuary and the animals in cages... keep in mind that if they were to be released in the wild, they would be killed. This sanctuary is about keeping them alive and safe. Our guide, Oriole, was from Spain but extremely knowledgeable and involved in the animals from around the world that are part of the sanctuary. He was most caring about our interactions with the animals. Definitely would recommend it!

The staff was very nice and the food was delicious.

warning. completely falsely advertised. !Please do not go here! on a tour this place may seem okay but I promise as a behind the scenes vet volunteer that that slept there I seen the truth. I planned this trip for a year as my first out of the country trip. I am a rehabber here in the states and I help rehab and release animals. I went here because on their website, they talk all about being a rehab in Sanctuary in Sanctuary in general. In reality when I got there, nothing that they promised was true. to start we got there at 6:10 so 10 minutes after dinner and they had no food for us after a day and a half of travel even though this was planned for a year and they said would, there was nobody to show us around. They just brought us to dark rooms in the jungle. There weren’t even other volunteers around at the time and we were very freaked out. Once we actually seen the facility, we noticed how sad everything was while I was there two other girls left because of the creulty. They do in fact have big flat cages with macaws, but they also have 20 small cages in the back with macaws that have been there for two years because they’re a part of a breeding program. They aren’t supposed to have yet because they are still waiting on permits. Please macaws don’t have branches leaves any sort of enrichment. They can’t even spread their wings. Yet they are surrounded by free macaws trees above them. You can see how angry and distraught and sad they are. It is so sad to see as an animal lover that does not support zoos for this reason. They also had blue macaws dropping dead with no reason why. They threw two macaws into a cage, and immediately their tail feathers were ripped out. I have pictures to prove it. They literally just get the animals for the vet program to pick at most of these animals. Don’t even need done what we’re doing at that moment there’s no way that animals constantly need these things done every week. The worst thing was that when I felt uncomfortable and tried to leave, they made it extremely hard and canceled my taxi three times I had a breakdown because I felt so unsafe at this point because I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t just let leave. And yes, I did pay for my stay, so it was not that. Finally they approved the taxi to come and I left two days later after planning my dream trip for a year. do not go and do not support. the website is clearly not even made by the sanctuary. They are all out for money and the owner is trying to open a new “rescue”. If you do go and see these macaws jailed in the back, please get pictures. I seen one bad review and didn’t listen. This is your sign not to go. also I realize every response I ever have gotten was from the receptionist who tried to take more more from me. they use google translate to respond to these reviews and texts when you book. they don’t actually care about you or the animals.

I was on the vet program at NATUWA for 3 weeks as a vet nurse student.
It has been amazing and I have learned so much about exotics and wildlife. The vet Carlina is the most incredible person and teacher and she is amazing to work with. If you like to get hands on she is the best teacher and vet to work with.
Before I came I had a lot of expectation but I never thought that I would have so much hands on as I did. So if you would like to learn and work with wildlife and exotics you should really consider this program.

Absolutely beautiful sanctuary with beautiful animals. Our guide, Jordan, was great at sharing lots of interesting facts about the animals and the property. It's amazing to get close views of the animals, yet also greatly respect their space and honor rehabilitation above all. Great trip for anyone in the area. Thanks again, Jordan!

The Montezuma Waterfalls Trailhead and Parking Lot is the starting point for a 40-minute river hike leading to a beautiful waterfall with a swimming hole. The trail also leads to a second set of falls where adventurous visitors can take a 10m leap into deep water, but caution is advised. Additionally, there's a rope swing over a third set of falls for those seeking more thrills.
This is super cool - but beware, it is not a simple hike! It takes only about twenty minutes but your feet will get wet and you will have to climb through trees and use ropes to navigate to the lower falls. The water is cool but not cold and is 100% worth the small hike. Just wear good shoes! We had no problems leaving our stuff on rocks behind the falls to get in.
Valerie Calvery — Google review
Rocky trail. Hiking or water shoes, suggesting. No sandals.
Water falls was great after a hot hiking. Moderate to hard (You need a good balance) botter line swimming was a plus!!
Desde el comienzo, hasta la cascada, es rocosa, recomiendo usar zapatos de hike o zapatos para agua. No sandalias. También tener balance, pero lindo la cascada y poder nadar después de la caminata!.

Relatively simple and short (about 600m) hike to a waterfall. Parking costs 2000 colones. Quite busy so not the tranquil spot you'd hope! The waterfall is quite pretty. As nice attraction to spend an hour.
Not suitable for flip flops. Wear insect repellant!
Simon Tong — Google review
Beautiful falls with cool pools for swimming. The trail isn't easy in some places, where you have to use the provided ropes to keep from slipping. There are also steep paths and lots of stairs, and even though some rocks appear dry, their surfaces are slippery. But if you're fit enough (I barely was), it's worth getting at least to the lower falls, which are free. You have to pay 2,000 colones per person to go up from there.
Ross Brown — Google review
we walked right on through even though the parking lot was chained off. at this point, i'm assuming they did not open the lot due to all the heavy rain in the rainy season. we took the left side route, made it so far, and could not cross the river safely. the map was easy enough to read. the parking lot is small and the street parking is minimal as well so get here early! rocky terrain, and crossing a river, so waterproof hiking boots are ideal. but im sure you can survive with tennis shoes. bring swim suit, towel, camera, food and hydration to enjoy it!

A place to enjoy and a great place to see. Two Waterfalls to discover (from out- or inside :-) )
There are guides at the start of the trail for hire; not really necessary but can be helpful and entertaining. Be smart - negotiate a price in advance.

This is one of the best waterfalls in Costa Rica. You can climb behind the waterfall. So cool!
Heath Hollenshead — Google review
We were a group of six and we hiked to the first fall. It was middle of May so not much rain and we were able to hike the trail to the waterfall through the rocks. You start off at the parking lot at the trail head on the street level. Pay $2-3 US dollars to the “security”. Bring lots of water and even food for a picnic when you get to the waterfall. Cold yet super refreshing and murky at that time of year. Pura vida! 🇨🇷
Sandi — Google review
WARNING: trail is not easy. Must use ropes in some spots to climb completely vertical areas of the trail. Also, using ropes and roots to rapel down.
The place is beautiful. Its a pity the experience can be ruined by very bad organization of the trails.
First of all, there is almost no signage at all indicating the way, or even to confirm that you are actually on the correct trail.
The actual trail is just someone who decided to climb over rocks and trees and called it a trail. Not even something simple like little flags or signs to confirm that you are supposed to climb over those rocks and swing over the cliffs with a half worn down rope.
The first waterfall is the only one that has an “easy” path. After that, forget about it. Hope you have good insurance in case of a slip.
Once you make it to the other side and decide to go back the easy path, turna out the easy path is a “private trail”, which was never indicated when starting. And once again, random unofficial people sitting there charging 2000 colones if you want to go through. Not even a receipt.
Worst part is that this is barely 5mins of steps, and then its back to the initial path. Which the only way to reach is by jumping over some rocks to cross the river.
If you made it past all the ranting, the waterfall is very beautiful. Its really nice that you can also swim under it, and just relax and chill in the different waterfall areas.
Many little pools and waterfalls in the different levels, if you can reach it.
Would be a much more enjoyable experience if they actually used that money to make the trail better instead of just keeping it and not using it to improve the park.
Andres Capurro — Google review
We had an incredible time. The hike was easy getting to the first fall where we had fun climbing a rock and jumping in the refreshing waters. I would definitely recommend

Such a beautiful hike. We did the hard side and found it just slightly challenging.
You can jump from the top waterfall (not the big one).
On our way down we wanted to get down quick so took the easy route. They make you pay $2 per person to pass the trail.
Mirela Rahneva — Google review
Beautiful waterfall. We were told it might be dry for the season but it was perfect. Pool is deep but wouldn't recommend diving..jumping ok. They try to make you pay park in there parking & take a guide...neither is necessary. Its about a 20 min walk. Its a little difficult for ppl with mobility issues...but its doeable, Especially if you take the riverbed. Great swimming experience and it was 100% FREE!
Shagorda Ahuanlla — Google review
Cool spot! 1000 to park, you do not need a guide to get to the waterfall! Just follow the beaten down path. It could be challenging for older people, or people with bad balance or weak legs.
Go early in the morning to beat the crowd. That is the only downfall is that it gets very crowded.
Travis Mackenzie — Google review
Nice and cool. The path there isn't for the faint and it's not that easy to cross. There are rocks along the trail also. It's moderate to tough in places. The second and third falls, extremely tough. The first falls are really the best: about 30 meters of flow
Jeff S — Google review
We took our ATV’s from Santa Teresa to the Falls which was about a 45 min commute.
There were 3 waterfalls as you go up the trail and we only hiked to the first waterfall. It took about 45 minutes to get to the first fall. Expect to get your shoes & clothes wet & muddy. You will need to go through shallow waters, climb up the side of the hills while holding onto guiding ropes. Wouldn’t recommend this for small children or bringing a pet.
The biggest & most popular fall is the last one at the end of the trail (apparently 3 hour hike).
We bowed out at the first. 😂 but, if you are an avid hiker or looking for a day of adventure you will enjoy!
Some Tips:
Wear waterproof / hiking shoes
Bring or wear swimwear
Pack lightly (no heavy bags)
Bring lots of water & snacks
Parking was $1,000 COL.

I visited the park 1 week ago. The entry price is cheap, and you can watch the fishes very closely. The cool thing about this park is that they pick up injured animals and release them when they are healthy again. There are also great activities for children. the staff is very polite, and very informative.

This is a cute little place for a day visit. We really loved the splash pad and small pool with slide the kids spent the whole afternoon playing! The grounds are really nice with lots of trees and benches. There is a cool display of sting rays and turtles. Entrance fees are reasonable and lots of parking.
Debbie Livshe — Google review
Nice place, very nice tanks and variety, they lack a little bit in quantity, being quite a small place, but the price is low and it helps keep not only the park open but the projects too, so it seems totally worth it for a trip of an hour or two.
If you have kids, there is plenty for them to play too!

This place should be closed down. Tiny little tanks with large tortoises or sharks in them. Just a couple of feet of water, nothing else. I felt so sad seeing these poor animals in these far too small tanks. I understand the animals have been rescued but this is not humane the way they are treated.
Danielle Douchet — Google review
It's important to clarify that this is not exactly an aquarium. This place is similar to an aquarium since it has sea life, but all the animals and species have been rescued from worse outdoors environment. So: the price you as national pay I think feels expensive (not for tourist apparently) if you go with your family and stuff, but it's because you are contributing for fauna maintenance.
You can bring your own food and you will have places where to sit and eat as a picnic day (good to rest in the hottest hours in El Puerto)
The place is not super big. You can spend 1hr or so.
Parking available

Overall this place was a good value. There was a substantial diatom outbreak in many of the tanks so I suspect that the site's tapwater isnt being filtered enough before adding it (or the DI filter stage resin is exhausted).

Amazing I known cabuya and this island for more than 20 years, i have so many shootings here! it’s energy it’s incredible and for it to be a cemetery wow, you cross at low tide and then back same way you will see the ocean at both sides as the tide is low making just a stripe of reef where you can walk. Not so difficult. Couple waves around too in the right moment! Enjoy pura vida

Really neat spot to check out. You can walk to the island in low tide. Don’t get stuck there though! We had a friend that did and he wasn’t a happy camper.

Great place to explore! Within a few minutes we saw monkeys, coati, and iguanas. They have guided tours but we just went and walked around on our own, there are a few trails you can follow as well. Had food at their restaurant that was also good. If we had more time today, we would have definitely done a boat tour / snorkeling excursion! Well worth what you pay, made me so happy to see all of those monkeys!

We were only there for a few hours waiting for some family members to get done with their scuba trip, but we did see some agouti, iguanas, deer, and lots of monkeys.
Their rates for kayaking are also good, and the kayaks are big. We easily fit 2 adults and a child on a double kayak (15 USD/hr or 30 USD/3 hr)

There are so many different hiking trails where you will find wildlife throughout the refuge, we really enjoyed our time spent there.

I don't think it can get any better. Start off with a walk around the reserve and then head out to Tortuga Island to go snorkeling and drink Coco locos. Pinch me.

The vibe of this place is incredible.
Some people were not understanding why we were going there, but I 100% suggest it.
We went to see the luminescence and it was a magical experience. You feel like a mermaid swimming in the ocean sparkling. One of the best and more authentic tours we had in Costa Rica.
The accommodations inside the park are very simple but isolated between one and others and you feel you’re alone there.
Don’t underestimate the mosquitos at the beach during the day… we’ve been eaten by them and we carried the bites with us all the week.

Beautiful place, you can see a lot of animals like monkeys, coati, macaws, lizard, leguan!
Nice beach to take a swim, less people. We loved it! 9000 colones per person, absolut okey.

Epic spot. Pristine views and incredible wildlife. Make sure to leave plenty of time to explore here. Trust me.
Also, speak to the rangers and get the info on what to look out for—both for safety and to help you spot the exciting stuff.

I don’t think this place was totally worth the cost. With only 68 people allowed, it’s kind of a weird atmosphere. Saw a few monkeys at the main part of the park, but besides that, not much wildlife.

Nice place with lots of animals (monkeys, iguanas, birds, deer, horses). There can be max 68 people in this park so come early. Price is about 16$ / person. You can also make a boat trip.

Playa Curu and Wildlife Refuge are a wonderful experience to really experience the beach and the local wildlife. Howler monkeys and Capuchin monkeys are abundant throughout the refuge, as are Coatis, raccoons, parrots, and small native deer. We even encountered a river otter and numerous seabirds.
We did take the boat out to snorkel at Tortuga Island which we found to be overwhelmed with tourists on Easter weekend. The snorkeling area was very crowded with many boats and too many people trying to see the reef fish etc. Tortuga Island is a popular tourist destination but the experience is diminished by so many people. By the way, the snorkeling area was very mediocre, as visibility was somewhat murky and bumping into other swimmers was a constant occurrence.
We rented one of the six small very rustic cabins in the reserve that are located steps from the beach. We were there when the day trippers left for the day and had the beach largely to ourselves in the evening and early morning. The cost is $100 nightly and an additional $20 daily for 3 simple but fresh and delicious meals at the dining room. We hiked some of the nature trails in the Reserve and encountered numerous monkey, especially on the Sendero de los Monos. We had hoped to take a horseback trip to a nearby beach but had not made reservations in advance. Highly recommend this Schutt Family Reserve for a couple of nights away from the fancy resorts on the Guanacaste coast. Check out the details on their website

Nice park with a nice walk to Quesera Beach what we did, i little bit expensive for what it is. They tell you de walk to the beach is 1,30 hr and back 2,30 hr.. we did both in 1,30 hr. Take enough water and snacks with you, the walk ia nice, the beach also but small with a lot off forbidden signs which is a Pitty. you can see deels, monkeys and nosebears, the entrance fee is today 9000 colone per person whats a little bit expensive for what it is.
Promptus Data — Google review
The park fee can only be paid in cash and it has to be USD for tourists and Colones for costaricans. The parking area has good shade and is secure. As soon as we entered the first trail, a doe, and two calves jumped in front of us and started walking without minding us. The trails are nice and mostly through the forest shade. When we went to the beach, about a dozen monkeys were waiting for someone to hand them food or otherwise get distracted so they could take it. It's definitely worth a visit.
Schedule about two hours for a calm walk through the trails and however long you want for the beach.

Refuge with trails offering diverse wildlife views, plus water routes & activities like snorkeling.

The price to get in seems a bit high, but it's reasonable if you stay the entire day.

Historically it is a very good project, currently poorly managed. Some trails are closed, motorboats are mostly very old. Beaches are lovely. The location as well as the surrounding islands are beautiful.

Embark on the Tortuga Island Tour located in the Gulf of Nicoya for a tropical paradise experience. The 90-minute boat ride offers complimentary rum punch and drinks for purchase, along with fruit snacks, a simple ham sandwich, and fish ceviche. On the island, guests can relax in chairs and umbrellas, visit the souvenir shop, or enjoy the bar while taking in stunning views.
I absolutely loved the island. The sands and the ocean are an amazing color. There's plenty of space to walk, swim in the ocean, and do plenty of activities. We tried snorkeling and even though it was pretty cool, we weren't really impressed with the views, but I guess it depends on the area you dive in! There's no reception or free internet on the island, but you can pay for wifi. There's also a gift shop, bathrooms ( they charge $1 for each time you want to go), and you can buy ice cream, food and cocktails ( one of the best margaritas I've ever had, for only $6 each). You can also rent beach chairs for the day, for $14 and you'll get 2 chairs and a beach umbrella for the day ( although there's plenty of space to just sit and lay on the sand with shadow from the trees.
Overall, we loved the experience and would definitely recommend the place!

Great Day....fabulous scenery and service is unbelievable. It's like a 1 day all-inclusive resort! Perfect to kick back and get spoiled for a day before returning to seeing the natural beauty the country has to offer. Food and drinks are plentiful. Snorkeling was awesome (I am a first time snorkeler so I have nothing to compare it to,but lots of different fish and underwater things..lol).
Hiking was on a beautiful, very gentle trail so its good for anyone.
Highly recommend this tour.

A delightful day trip to a paradise island! We snorkeled, road the banana boat, hiked, imbibed, ate a marvelous lunch and enjoyed the beach. On the way back, we saw manta rays jumping out of the water for extra entertainment.

I was looking for a perfect beach day, and this tour did not disappoint! We saw dophins and sea turtles while on the boat ride to the island and it was so exciting to watch them. The island itself offered plenty of very nice beach chairs ($8 each) and the sand beach was absolutely beautiful. The souvenir shop offered plenty of gifts to help memorialize this perfect island beach day.

My husband and i had a wonderful time traveling to Tortuga island with Cosat Cat Company. The staff Eddie, Sébastien, Jordan, and the Captain were all wonderful. I am missing the other gentleman name - my apologies. But overall, we had an awesome time. We saw a humpback whale, dolphins, and peacocks. The buffet was great. The price is affordable and definitely worth the trip. We loved it!

Very cool place that is unspoiled. Everything must me taken(food and drinks) by the tour operator and then removed off the island when heading back. The boat ride is long as the boat goes really slow. I did the Island hike and the snorkeling. I highly recommend this tour.

We took the Costa Cat tour. We had a great time, staff are very attentive. The snorkeling was ok, water too rough for me. But a lot of fish to see. Lunch was great! Really enjoyed the grilled chicken and rice. You get what you pay for on this tour.

Boat itself was quite luxurious. Different places to sit and enjoy the view, relaxed ride to the beach. During this trip we got multiple small snacks (fruit, cake, fish thingy) and enough to drink. Bottles are not cooled however but rather chilled with ice cubes. So you either get cold watered down drink, or warm with good taste.
The DJ that accompanied us was a bit too loud to our taste, luckily on the front deck it was better.
In the beach itself it is nicely arranged. Own seats, some activities, bar, food. That was great!

A fun boat ride to paradise. Tortuga Island via the Costa Cat was a really great way to spend the day. They have a lot of activities (such as snorkeling) but I opted to relax at the beach, enjoy the warm ocean waters, and chat with people at the restaurant.
Recommended to bring water shoes as the sand gets really hot and there is some rough stone and sharp shells a little bit out.

It's a beautiful island that, as far as I know, can only be reached by a boat tour. On the island, there isn't a lot to do as the beach is the primary area accessible to visitors. There is also an island hike, which we didn't undertake, and I'm not sure if a guide is required for that. Everything on the island comes with a fee, even the toilets. The water is warm, and further out, you can go snorkeling, which is a wonderful experience. All in all, in my opinion it's slightly overrated due to the high number of tourists and the limited options, primarily just one beach. There are nicer places in costa rica which are way cheaper and way more accessable :)

Had a lovely time at Tortuga Island. Highly recommend coming here and spending the day hiking, snorkeling, drinking, etc. The CostaCat crew was amazing with top notch service. They even brought drinks to you as you were swimming in the water!

You begin your trip with a boat ride. This was about 90 minutes. They offer complimentary rum punch as well as drinks for purchase. You are also offered fruit snacks, a simple ham sandwich, and fish ceviche on the way there. Once on the island there are chairs and umbrellas to use, a souvenir shop, and bar to enjoy while you bask in the sun or play in the ocean. Views are stunning as you truly feel secluded from the rest of the world as you enjoy the island life with the other guests. Depending on your specific tour snorkeling and banana boat rides are offered. You get a lunch and tickets for soda. Our lunch was salad, potato salad, rice, breaded fish, and chicken with the option for a glass of sangria. When you leave you take another 90 minute boat ride to shore where they continue to offer complimentary fruit and rum punch as well as having the bar to purchase drinks.
You will need to bring lots of sunscreen, a towel, sunglasses, and hat as you will be in the sun A LOT.
Beautiful and worth the price.

Tortuga island was beautiful!
You start with the boat ride there, go snorkeling for couple hours & see pretty fish!
We also saw dolphins on the boat ride there.
To note - everything on the island costs money, if you want chairs, they were like $10US per chair. Also the bathroom cost money to use. Just assume everything costs something on the island ! But the water is beautiful & you can go for a little hike on the island too.
Bree — Google review
I give it a 4 and half stars rating. Would have been 5 if it was a little less crowded. Picturesque beach, beautiful white sand, great vibe. There're few bars on the island to purchase drinks. You can chill under the sun, swim in the beautiful, pristine water, and paddle board out to the other nearby island. There are plenty of things to do. To get here, you have to either charter a boat or book a snorkeling tour. We booked a snorkeling tour, $85 per person, including door to door service and a (castado) lunch.

FANTASTIC! I highly recommend this trip. The catamaran ride is about 45 minutes, and we saw whales along the way. The setup on the island is terrific, and the staff is exceptional.
The lunch served was excellent and the provided free drinks are okay. You can opt to purchase beer and other beverages from the bar.
We enjoyed the snorkeling and the fish along the reef. There is also banana boat riding available if you choose to participate.
Remember to bring water shoes!

Tortuga Island is a beautiful place to visit when you're in Costa Rica. Plenty of companies offer this tour, and the prices vary from USD$125 to $150, so make sure you select a reputable one. You definitely get what you pay for.
They picked us up at our hotel at 6:30am, drove us to the Marina about 45min away and the boat trip to the island was about 1h30.
The tour included a small breakfast, ceviche, fruit, and coffee on the boat, then a buffet type lunch (Costa Rican) on the island with unlimited rum punches!
Other activities offered are snorkeling, banana boat, kayaking, and much more.
The white-sand beach is beautiful and the waters are calm. There also is a small souvenir shop on the island.
Thoroughly enjoyed this activity!
