Colin's Horseback Africa & Wildlife Education Programs
Located in Cullinan, South Africa, Colin's Horseback Africa offers a great opportunity to escape from the city and enjoy horseback riding while getting up close with wildlife. In addition to the horsetail experience, visitors can also take part in a Lion tour that highlights important conservation efforts. The lodge provides an all-around experience with quality cuisine and friendly staff. Highly recommended for couples or families looking for a unique getaway.
This was my first time visiting Colin's and doing a lion tour and it was just as magical as the first. My partner (who had never been before) absolutely loved it, and we both appreciated how knowledgable Kerissa was and how she answered all our questions! It's safe to say we fell in love with the lions and it's amazing to know that the money goes towards conserving this species and increasing their numbers (and genetic variation) in the wild! A must do if you're ever in Johannesburg. Everyone is so lovely and welcoming and it is a day you will never forget!! Thank you so much everyone.

Its like paradise. Just awesome how they care about you, the Animals and there facility. You can get pretty close to the Lions and get a lot of informations. It was just a plasure

An unforgettable experience!!
The most encouraging line that you hear just before the lions are brought out to meet you is that they have not eaten in last 24hrs and are hungry
If you love lions, you want to understand them, feel them and get to walk with them then this is the place.
It was evident to see and understand the lion behaviour when you look them in the eye or try to walk in front of the male lion you would see the dominance in the young male lion, I was nudged by him to walk behind him and while walking he let me then hold its tail and walk.
I got to hold a snake as well 😅
The reason why they have not eaten is that they are lazy … I realised later hahaha !
The whole atmosphere is so nice if you’re a wild life lover.

Great place to get away from the busy city life and enjoy very informative horsetail and get up close and personal with wildlife. The Lion tour highlights some important conservation points and provides food for thought. The cuisine highlights the whole experience and I would definitely recommend a visit or even a stay over for any couple or family. The staff are all very friendly and makes you feel at home...

Great stay after a long day of travel.
Friendly people, tasty food and we enjoyed the animals en lion walk.
Thanks!

The staff are top notch. The experience is out of this world plus you are helping a conservation project that actually is making a difference.
I recommend to all visitors to take a day and visit the team at Colin's. You will not be disappointed. The guides are extremely knowledgeable about all things Africa! You will learn, see and interact with meerkats, servals, lions, zebras, giraffes and others. Food is great as well!

This has had to have been the best part of our holiday the love and passion that these people have for their lion program is next to none. Well recommended. If we ever go back we will definitely revisit. It would be great to see the team and see what else they have achieved. Good luck with all the good work that is being done at Horseback Africa.

As I traveled north across the African continent I came upon this wonderful experience. To ride horses amongst the native animals and then walk with lion cubs is truly a unique experience.

We did not stay over so I can not rate the rooms but the day out was beautiful. Lovely horses, lions roaring in the background and lazy winter sun on our faces

Something about this land and farm that gets us coming back atleast twice or more in a year. Such a great weekend escape or even a mid week getaway from the busy city life of JHB. The horseback africa team displayed such friendly and excellent service each time we visited. The hiking, horse trails, wild life animal viewing and general feel of the place is always magical and each visit brought it's own little wild adventure!

We had an exceptional day during our recent visit and we would like to express our gratitude .The personnel were incredibly kind and highly professional, making it one of the best days of our lives. It was an extraordinary experience, starting with a horseback safari in the morning and discovering wild animals in the afternoon. We were able to walk with lions and even bottle-feed the youngest one. The entire personnel was amazing, and we are grateful for this unforgettable experience. Thank you all for making it such a memorable day!

We went by end of July 23...
That was a great place to discover when arriving in Johannesburg, after a long flight from Paris - France.
We had a "walk" with young lion cubs, and we ate by night around a big and wonderful fire.
Our girls (11 & 12) loved to ride horses and to follow zebras, gnous and girafe.
Special feelings when sleeping just aside of lions roaring during the night.
We really loved that stay, thank you for your time.

What a fabulous experience! We took our work colleagues from Europe and they loved it! So nice to see the animals in nice big open spaces and that they are being protected from impending extinction. Crocodile and Ostrich pizzas were very yummy.

We really enjoyed our horse riding in between the giraffes, wildebeest, antelope. Very good safety briefing and training. Very dedicated staff. We came here two years ago and we are very happy that we returned.
Last time, we also went for a walk with the lions. That was truly awesome as well then and extremely highly recommended

I had an amazing experience. I loved the fact that I got a bush experience whilst not being too far from the city. Gaelle, the owner was such a good host. The masseuse was very good. I also really enjoyed my Turkish bath. Overall, I had a great experience, I will definitely go again.

I went with my best friend (03/10/2020) and we had the time of our lives. The welcome was beautiful. The massages were out of this world, the ladies are so good at it. The whole experience was beautiful and definitely worth going back again. They served us light lunch with a touch of French cuisine. The owner is such a very nice lady and their stuff are professional and also lovely, friendly ladies.. I'm definitely going back there for my birthday wkend.

The Dinokeng Game Reserve, located 60km north of Pretoria, is a conservation area that features free-roaming Big 5 such as elephants, rhinos, leopards, buffalo and lions. The reserve offers both lodges and self-drive safaris for visitors to explore the vast expanse of wildlife. With well-maintained routes and designated stops for stretching one's legs, it provides an opportunity to witness the positive impact of responsible conservation efforts.
The lodge we stayed at was just sooo beautiful. What made our stay even more amazing was being woken up by the sounds of lions roaring at 3am! We booked a guided game drive and were incredibly lucky to see lions.. We've done a few self drives before and haven't had much luck with sightings of the big5.
Sharon Thabang — Google review
We had a lovely self-drive around the reserve. Didn't see any big 5 but lots of birdlife and buck. A 4x4 makes some part of the park more accessible. We had lunch at a lovely picnic spot along the river Bank. I would recommend camping if you want to have a chance to encounter the Big 5 as you'll have more time to explore the park.
Elizabeth Mebelo — Google review
We camped at Zebra Bush camp. What a joy. You cannot hear the busy road. The ablusion is lovely and clean and private. We were in the fenced park, but there are "free range" stands too. The people are friendly and helpful. Thank you for the pics Derick.

Simply: Must visit! We had an evening game drive and morning bush walk. Guides were amazing! They know what are they working with: almost every flower, every animal.
Thank you for taking extra mile by picking us up and taking us to airport next day!
I highly recommend staying in a tent, that's experience out of this world.
Dementek Hloupy — Google review
We stayed at Zebra Bush Camp and stayed at one of the unfenced sites.
What an absolutely wonderful weekend of relaxation with friends, sitting under the stars, around a camp fire, just chatting.
Go to sleep with the sound of lions roaring, jackals and hyenas.
Just thoroughly enjoyable and catching your breath, whilst only being 1h30 from JNB
Gordon Sims — Google review
The self drive, is extremely boring…very hard to see the big 5. You would need a 4x4. Buying the lock and engraving it was cool.
Sagren Moodley — Google review
It’s a great big 5 reserve. I saw a lot of animals. There is beautiful Bushveld scenery, lodges and camping spots. It’s very convenient for a weekend getaway from Johannesburg and Pretoria. It’s just close to Hammanskraal and the highway. So if you stay on that side of the reserve you can still get noise. Also even if you stay at a resort or camping spot you still have to pay extra to get a permit for the self-drive routes to view animals.
Gerhard Stewart — Google review
We booked at Jimmy's place. We had a great weekend. Our place was clean and we had everything we needed.
The only thing disappointing was the guy who was assisting us. He didn't explain clearly the cost of game drive but we learned a lesson. Next time we will find out more info before check in
Helen Mathume — Google review
Great idea to get out of the city!
You will find something to match your expectations but in general the vibe is not good between the different venues and operators.
Just drive and enjoy. Pack your own refreshments for the day and enjoy the views from your vehicle.
Restrictions everywhere in place!
Get the permit and go slow!
The bush is inviting. The service providers need money.
Johan Grundling — Google review
This is possibly one of the best conservation ideas around and you can see the positive inpact it has. There is a lot of game to see and the self drive route is well set out and maintained. The "get out and stretch" sites is a welcome and nice break from the car and gives the legs a bit of a stretch. This will be a regular outing for the family as it is realy close to Pretoria and offers what we need.
Cornelis Lubbe — Google review
Promised Big 5 only saw a Big 1. Rhinos…. That was that…. Yes they do have sone wild animals but I don’t think the big 5 is in there. But the reserve is not crowded so very pleasant in that way. I don’t think I will make a trip that way anytime soon…
Jacob Nare — Google review
Today I had a fantastic time at the dinoking reserve. I booked a guided tour at the mongena game lodge. The price of 400 Rand for a 2,5 hours tour incl. one drink and snacks was fair. The ranger could answer all my questions and made this tour informative. We saw two rhinos, a group of giraffes, three beautiful cheetahs, around 100 gnus, impalas, antelopes, etc...
Perfect for a daytrip from Johannesburg or Pretoria.

Dinokeng Game Reserve is by far one of the best reserves I have visited. Literally from the moment you enter the reserve (I enter mainly at the Ndlovu gate and sometimes the Tau gate), you see wildlife! They have the big 5 in the reserve. The reserve is clean and well maintained. Some of the roads you need to drive slower but can be easily done by a normal car!
Entrance is not expensive at all, considering what you can see in the reserve!
Riaan Greeff — Google review
Absolutely fantastic morning game drive at Dinokeng! Once again, the reserve impressed with the variety of wildlife sightings.
Kieran, our ranger, was exceptional. His knowledge and passion for the animals truly made the experience even more enjoyable.
He was very attentive to us, ensuring everyone had a chance to see the sights and learn interesting facts.
Highly recommend!
Solace Maphosa — Google review
We went for a 2 hour game drive and it was hard to find animals, but when we did it was very rewarding. The highlight of our drive was a male white rhino who was kind of running away from our vehicle. I hope you will have better luck than us and enjoy Dinokeng.
Itumeleng Kgololo — Google review
Great for proximity to Johannesburg. Game viewing differs in quality (dense bush and fairly flat)
The Mall has great priced drinks!
Emlyn Bul — Google review
It's a new reserve and a relatively small one, compared to others in South Africa.
The number of animals and their size is limited due to that.
However, the guides are very nice and involved in the project, and hopefully it will grow and other land owners will join the project.

This was so much fun, we saw so much... The Place, animals and roads everything is so well taken care of. The staff here is amazingly friendly and likes to make jokes, ready to help amd give advice. We had a rainy weekend and went on the 4x4 trail, how awesome this was i cant describe we had so much fun... We also got lost as we did not follow instructions🤣 but was quickly helped and we got where we needed to be. Dinokeng will most definitly see us again and again and again, will visit them as much as we can.
Dellene Van Loggerenberg — Google review
I did not even know that this place existed. It is barely an hour’s drive from Johannesburg. There is lots of game to see and you can find the big five there. Inside the reserve you will find a lot of privately owned lodges and restaurants. Awesome place to explore. We went to Bushbaby lodge and camped for the weekend.
Gerrit Olivier — Google review
Great place for a weekend away.
Recommend a Guided Game Drive, they know where to go.
Both our guides shared a lot of knowlege with the group, things we wouldnt have seen or know if we did it on our own.
We stayed in one of the local lodges, self catering and it was perfect.
Visit the brewery for Lunch, their beer is really good.
Louis Scheepers — Google review
Beautiful game reserve with lots of game, unfortunately we did not get to see any of the big five on our self drive but lots of other animals up close. It was worth the experience. The map we bought is abit confusing to use as the orientation didn't seem to be consistent but we eventually figured it out. I would recommend that you buy the map when getting your tickets as Google maps will take you on closed/management roads.
Absolutely amazing , worth every cent you pay

Very, very special place this. The grounds and animals are very well looked after. Makes such a change to see a well managed facility like this. All facilities clean and tidy unlike so many places one sees these days in SA. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Nice food and shop to purchase snacks and drinks for your walkaround. Our government could learn a thing or 10 from this venue. Take your time and sit with the beautiful creatures that live here, some very special interactions await you. Will be back as often as possible. A big thank you to the owner for all you have created for the residents. It's sad to see animals in cages but many are simply safer there. Is what it is.

After driving for almost 2 hours to Mystic Monkeys, it was all worth it, staff doesn't bother you which is nice, they are very polite, FOOD IS GREAT! Scenery is amazing, and best teddy's for sale there! Animals are well looked after, was a pleasant visit, would totally recommend 10/10!
(Those saying cages are too small, I do agree as wild animals aren't supposed to be kept in cages, but if these few weren't there, then you wouldn't have been there to view them and judge afterwards, and possibly never see these animals in your life, and Mystic Monkeys looks well after their animals from what I saw today
and cages are actually nice and big, great for interaction ) Good Job To The Snymans!!!!

The animals are well looked after. If you're lucky you can see them feeding the big cats. Pay R100 for a 10 minute interaction with the cubs. Remember a hat and sunscreen. You can bring your snacks or buy a burger at the tuckshop. They even have Savanna and beer.

We went as a school for an excursion. The animals and the park is amazing but the people who do the tour through the park is very uneducated and have no knowledge about the animals they show around. We were rushed through the park and I really expected more. Mystic Monkeys can really put in more effort in the quality of the tours. Also welcoming of guests needs attention.

This was one of those experiences where we did not know what to expect but somehow you just know that its gonna be great. We arrived late for the Elephant interaction show but the staff were awesome and considerate enough to accomodate us so that we did not drive all the way from Joburg for nothing. We totally loved the entire experience. You can get up and close with Elephants, touch them, interact with them and feed them. All the staff are very knowledgeable on the Elephants and you learn a great deal from them. Getting splashed by Chova, the Bull we interacted with, was the highlight of the experience.

Wow and wow. This was a last minute edition to our already scheduled trip and so very worth it. The education and experience were incredible. I enjoyed learning so much about these beautiful and majestic animals. Yes, they are misunderstood and can be aggressive, but that's nature. The interaction was the best part of you have to choose between that or the ride. Seeing these enormous and entertaining animals up close is the best. Absolutely the most magical couple of days. We stayed at one of the lodges; stunning surroundings, knowledgeable and caring staff. Most importantly the education and interaction with the monkeys and wildlife was beyond amazing. We have sponsored a baby verve monkey and encourage others to do the same. Been twice and recommended to many of our overseas guests. This is the highlight of most of their trips! Highly recommend!
I've volunteered multiple times here and every time I feel so privileged to be here.
Feracare Wildlife Center is situated far way from cities and all kind of noises. This place is a safe and quiet haven for cheetahs and all kind of animals in need of a new home.
Every time I'm here I see highly professional staff working with the animals with lots of love, passion and patience.
The animals health and well-being is always their first priority. All animals are fed with proper meat and enrichments are done regularly to keep all animals busy and train their senses.
On a regular basis game drives, game counts and tracking are done around the whole farm to check on all free roaming animals (of which are a lot).
The volunteer accommodation is a nice, clean and fully equipped house with two bathrooms, a kitchen, a big garden and a braai (barbecue) place. Although we are in the South African Savannah, we always have electricity, water and internet.
The staff also make sure that we have all we need and that we do learn a lot during our time here.
Often in the mornings and evenings we see the free roaming giraffes, wildebeest or blesboks just in front of the volunteer house.
Seeing cubs raised by their mothers, a beautiful sky full of stars in the evenings, going to bed with the mighty roars of lions, meeting friendly staff and volunteers from all over the world makes it always an amazing experience.

Wonderful golfing experience in the bushveld.
Golf course layout is unique. Many holes with a split fairway where you need to hit a well-placed tee shot. This makes it challenging and, in my opinion, more fun than your general parkland layout.
19th hole service is excellent.

It's perfect for the whole family. The restaurant offer a large variety of meals including pizza while you wait. Their juicy stake is my favorite. They have different specials depending on days of the week.

Just amazing. First time to play this challenging out country course. Met new friends and those who got between trees had to get around it.

The restaurants service is very bad and they are not friendly at all. Won't recommend going there, as a traveler I've been to many places and this restaurant will be remembered as one that I won't ever recommend to someone or go there.

This is really a golf tour competion type golf course. As the first golf course I played on, it was a time I will never forget. The courses is kept in pristine condition and the holes is challenging while at the same time also being beginner friendly. The pro shop is excellent and stocking everything that you will need for golfing, with very decent pricing. There is also a great restaurant at the clubhous with top qualitu food and drink. The change rooms and toilets is kept super clean. There is also a driving range when you take your first left when you enter the main gate. Would definitely recommend for beginner and pro golfer.

Golf was difficult. Enjoyed it though. Lost and found many balls. Will like to play again. The restaurant food was excellent and service great. Highly recommend the experience. Slept over in guesthouse after golf and dinner. Was very nice
The service we received from the gents at the restaurant, sales counter and during the tour was exceptional. The cheese tasting and the cheese tour is a must. Everything is well priced. Highly recommended.

We were really keen to stop in at the goat cheese farm. Now that we have I don't think we will be back.
The menu is very limited, the staff a little disinterested and no alternatives to menu items with cheese - goat's cheese or nada. The pizza we ordered was really not the best application for the (now closed) goats cheese farm - tasted very funky - the milkshakes were also goats milk or nada - I tried a brandy milk shake and found it perfectly ok-ish but the regular milkshakes also had a funky taste.
I would seriously suggest that management reconsider the goat's milk ONLY policy and give the waiters and waitresses some ongoing training in menu knowledge and basic customer service in their industry.

Great place. Stunning views of mountains. A lot of animals and feeding experiences.
Small ponds and many goats.
Specialist goat cheese farm.

Not the same place anymore, new owners, no more koi pond or goats milk/chease... previous owner sold the koi's goats and most of the nice things that created the atmosphere... still n nice little restaurant though.

Try the cheese platter! It is a real treat, along with the 'whiskey milkshake'!. Very nice place to visit.

Country eating at its best. Stop off and relax on your travels and leave refreshed. You won’t even notice there’s no Wi-Fi. Kids can play outside with birds and farm animals.
David Rogers — Google review
Had a great experience. We had a cheese tasting, some really great cheeses, nice view and very relaxing atmosphere. Even the milkshakes were very good. We fed some goats and the ostrich. All the animals were very friendly. The staff were friendly and were very informative and it was easy to sense their passion for what they do there. We bought some cheese as well as goat milk soap. The kids loved the visit and asked us to return again soon.

Sorry to say, but the worst experience in a long time at a restaurant.
This people don't know the meaning of service. In the 2 hours we were there, we had to run after a waiter to get noticed, then we waited 30 minutes for our drinks and another hour for our food. And when the food came we were highly disappointed in the burgers, get better quality patties or make your own, otherwise remove it from your menu. I know you were very busy, but if you've asked us if we wanted another round of drinks, it could have helped to wait that long for the food, but the waiters don't come to your table.
The cheese platter were very nice.

Nice open plan restaurant. Place is well maintained. Prices on menus is good. No goats there. Covid19 impacted the business and owner had to auction off some live stock. Limited serving staff also. If you visit, dont be in a hurry and enjoy the calmness.
We enjoyed visiting this reserve. A must visit for birders. Lots of water species to see. Enjoyed the bird hides, outlook tower, and picnic spots. You can braai here and there is also a restaurant. R50 pp entrance is very reasonable! Worth it!!!
Enel Viljoen — Google review
A very special place for birding. Staff very friendly and helpful. A small number of chalets, but well equipped and clean. Basic campsite facilities. Well worth the two hour drive from Johannesburg.
Ian Greenop — Google review
Nylsvley Nature Reserve is a birders paradise. Waterbirds, including uncommon species, are abundant when the rainfall is sufficient to sustain water in the vlei. The non-aquatic birdlife is also incredible.
My trip in the beginning of March 2022 yielded just over 100 species. Here of some of my favourite sightings: Allen's Gallinule, Slaty Egret, Black-crowned Night-heron, Dwarf Bittern, Glossy Ibis, African Spoonbill, White-backed Duck, Hottentot Teal, Fulvous Whistling Duck, Southern Pochard, Lesser Moorhen, Levaillant's Cuckoo, Black-winged Pratincole, Sedge Warbler, Violet-backed Starling, Purple Indigobird, Marico Flycatcher and African Paradise-flycatcher.
The campsite is extremely basic, with no electricity and a small ablution with one toilet and cold-water shower. The stands are nicely placed and have a lot of shade. Each stand has a braai and most have a table with benches. The campsite is an excellent break from the noisy cities and is rather peaceful. There is a large well-kept pool. This was a large bonus after a warm morning of birding at Vogelfontein. Ask at the reception for details on how to access Vogelfontein. I would definitely recommend you stop there and bird inside the reserve, as well as along the round near the Vogelfontein gate.
The roads are well kept and can be driven with a non-4x4 or non-high-clearance vehicle. The lookout-point yields amazing views, I added some photos in which wildlife was spotted from the tower. The reserve has quite a few mammals.
The reserve has quite a few nice housing options for those who are not into bush-camping.
Nicole Wreyford — Google review
Really good experience! I'd been to Nylsvley a few times when I was younger, but was really impressed to go back. Firstly, the staff were exceptional. We were running late coming up from Joburg as we ended up on a longer, more alternate dirt road route (if not in a bakkie, take the Mookophong turn off from the N1 and access the reserve from the R101 as this is a far better dirt road and a lot shorter on dirt) and Patrick went out of his way to wait for us (on a public holiday) and was very friendly and accommodating. The staff were also really friendly on departure. Our chalet was clean and well stocked with necessities. The reserve itself looked well managed and overall, very impressed with the 2 nights spent there. The birding was as good as it's always been and all in all, it was a trip worth remembering. Would definitely recommend for nature lovers and good job Nylsvley staff!

Beautiful place, pitty the caravan park is neglected. Bathrooms is really not great. I will really want to go there again but the bathrooms needs to be upgraded a bit. The park is beautiful and its worth the visit.
Tania Kitching — Google review
I have been coming to Nylsvley since 1994 and it remains one of the top birding sites in South Africa, however the game count is sadly depleted and while I’m camping in the reserve I hear the sound of poachers rifle shots in the early evening.
Eric Salberg — Google review
A paradise for nature lovers with lots of game, natural bush, a great variety of bird species and picture-perfect scenery. Great for walking, birding or just relaxing.

Stunning reserve. Friendly people. This was our second time here. We took our bikes. Cycling in nature was wow. Lots of birds, roan, zebra, giraffe, tsesebe etc. Definitely worth a visit. Restaurant is small, service and food excellent. All in all very good value for money.
Louise Van der Linde — Google review
I have visited Nylsvley Nature Reserve since I was born and will always come back. Bring your mountain bikes and binoculars and enjoy the scenery. Plenty of birdlife in summer. The camp site is very basic but has a rustic charm to it. Unfortunately recent fires have destroyed the male ablution hut. The dormitories are well kept and have a kitchen and boma area. Unfortunately safety has become a concern as our vehicle was broken into at a Vogelfontein in October 2018. There have been other reports of break ins at the chalets and even fire arms being stolen just two weeks earlier. This is sad considering what a beautiful area this is. Hopefully crime can be stopped in the area.
Kálmán Kozma — Google review
The cleanliness of the reserve and the efficiency of Patrick and his colleague at the restaurant saved the place from 0 stars.
The security guards were totally disinterested in their jobs and in guests. Unprofessional and unwelcoming.
The Receptionist was okay but gave no effort into ensuring that we knew where to go or what to look for - there was no inclination to orientate us as eager 1st time visitors.
The signage in the reserve is non-existent.
The lookout tower ladder is certainly a safety risk.
We had a great time at Eventieria, we stayed over in the accommodation for 4 days. Great Facilities. At night you listen to the lions roar, while sitting outside facing a nice pond. We really loved the animals, and got the opportunity to feed some of the baby tigers. The animals are very well cared for. What an awesome experience. This is definitely a place where you make friends. Friendly staff, and great food, that is well priced. The T-Bone Steak is magnificent. We really met awesome people, and this will be one of our best holidays ever. Make sure to visit Eventieria when you can.

Very nice experience. Never saw a white tiger before.
I will recommend that they put information on the cages, on a few there is ,but, there were a lot of cages that we would like to know what animal it is and where did he came from. Or maybe guided walks.
And they have a restaurant and bar, definitely a recommended outing.
Belinda Fawell — Google review
Loved this park. From the road it does not look like a big park, but once we started the route we were suprised with the variety of animals. This is a zoo setting, but the animals were all well looked after and cared for. The tigers each have their own bath/swimming pool and the water was clean. There is so many species of monkeys and the reptile and bird exhibit are really cool to explore. The entrance is also well priced. There is also a restaurant and swimming pool to enjoy.
Marleen — Google review
What a brilliant experience as a visitor from the UK. The number of different species of the large cat family is out of my wildest dreams. The fact that you can get so close to wild animals was absolutely fantastic. Even getting to touch some of them and give them a back scratch is something I never thought possible in my lifetime. When we were given the opportunity to enter an enclosure with two 10 week old Tiger cubs and play with them, Wow.
This has been one of the best days in my life that will stay with me forever. If you're ever nearby, I suggest you call in and visit this beautiful place. The restaurant is beautiful to I had pap and Kaiings and it was delicious, filling kept me energised to visit all the animals including 2 black bears and all the monkeys and the vast amount of different birds.
This is a place you need to explore and enjoy.
Thank you for allowing me such a privilege.

Polokwane best kept secret. A lovely savanna land park of about 3000ha. Nice picnic break area called the Warthog. Lots of unusual antelope species like Tsesebe, Gemsbok, Red Hartebess, Springbok, Gemsbok, Waterbuck, Eland, Nyala, and the usual Giraffe , Zebra, Wildebees, Kudu, Impala etc. Also fantastic birding. Great hiking and cycling routes. Cheap season tickets are available through the various clubs.

The area was clean, we paid just under R150 for self drive game, van picnic and a walk for 2 people. The road is not well marked, however even when you get lost most roads go to one place. Just make sure you have enough petrol.
You can also come through for camping , and hiking . The infrastructure needs a little care, but the nice thing is that it is clean.
Please bring picnic supplies(camp chairs , meat, picnic blankets, food, drinks) and braai supplies(coals etc). Bring cash if you can, pos machine available but problematic during load-shedding

The facility was just amazing and so clean, the campsite was just what I needed. The ablution block was super clean and properly maintained. During my hike I came across so much wildlife and it was amazing. Big ups to the city and the team on site, the staff was very friendly and helpful

Plk game reserve is suitable for a day outing with the family, friends or just your partner for a quality time. The self drive game viewing is enjoyable and cheap! On 29th December 2020 the prices were R30 per adult, R24 for children under 18 and an additional R45 per vehicle.
During the rainy season be careful of the muddy areas when driving a vehicle that is not 4x4. You can easily get stuck in mud that does not seem intimidating from your driver's seat.
Unfortunately, there is no restaurant or shop where you can buy even drinks. So be sure to pack up on anything you will need in terms of food and drinks. There are several picnic areas, lapas and overnight accommodation that you can book for. I never used any of those facilities but based on previous reviews and notices posted at the reception, don't expect a lot from those services. For example, one notice in the reception area warns you about stoves that might not be working and then informs you that you cannot claim for a refund if you find the stove not working.
The Plk game reserve has a lot of great potential. The place just needs a revamp in the systems and management.
You can expect to see Giraffe, Eland, Gemsbok, Nyala, Warthog, Impala, Blue Wildebeest, Red Hartbeest, Black-backed Jackal, Waterbuck and of course plenty of Springbok. Apparently, they also have Rhino but never saw it 👀
Otherwise, I really recommend visiting the place if you just want to spend the day surrounded by nature.

Not coming back to this nature reserve. Last time I was there for cycling, I couldn't even see a single animal. I don't think they can call it a nature reserve anymore!!
They also want to charge me money to go to the bathroom even though it was free in the past. They ask me R55 for the car, and R35 for each individual inside the car.
Polokwane Nature Reserve is NEVER going to see me again!!

The kids really enjoyed the play/swim area they want us to go back again, but not really a vibe for adults.

There is too much noise in this place, especially for it being a reptile park. I think that now having lions aswell might make it more game like rather than just a drinking and partying place. Very unprofessional towards the creatures and animals that have to bear with the noise and loud music.

Nice place for entertaining Kids and have few chilling zones with built braai areas. Some animals such as Ostriches were not there by the time we visited. R50 entrance fee for adults and R30 for kids. There are swimming pools and horse riding for kids entertainment as well. The area is divided into Aquarium 🐟🐠, Snake cages🐍(though some few were not there), large variety of bird cages🦜🐦, a huge cage contain two lions🦁(female and male), crocodile cage, some fewer monkey 🐒 cages and Tortoises.
There's a hall available for hiring.
The only disappointing factor for me was that the place was not that neat and less maintained in terms of some structures and benches, for example some glass cages for some snakes were dirty and cracked which disturbs one to clearly have full view of the snake inside.
The rest rooms are well looked after, the kiosk is nice to meet your basic snacks need😅...and the cameraman is available for some snaps(R30) with some certain snake species wrapped over your shoulders 😅😅
It's really a nice play to visit with fam especially with kids for learning about snakes species and birds.
Thank bye☺️

Awesome spot on a dirt road off the R71 the vibe was very relaxed with a beautiful back drop of the forest.
The beers themselve were great, really enjoyed the Indian pale ale.
Would definitely recommend doing this of you're in magaboeskloof.

What a Wonderful place to go, meet people, taste the good beer, do hikes, stay at kholo's campsite next to the river. We have enjoyed it so much and definitely will be back here. They also have some amazing wood cabins close to the river.

This was our first stop on the way into Haenertsberg and after a scenic drive in through the amazing trees, we got a very warm welcome at the bar and a chance to try all of the delicious beers and the blueberry gin. A lovely view, yummy fresh chips and the company of some furry friends made it just perfect. Thank you for being so welcoming, we wish we could get your Perry IPA and Blueberry Gin mix in Pretoria!! :D

Beautiful spot where you can take a walk to the river and then enjoy the crafted beers.
The chips was a big hit on our table

The food was great. Beer was good too. Nice place for a family time. But the dogs that have been walking around have been begging for food, poking them face on the bench, and messing cloth with sliver. Recommendation to owners - put the strict rules for dog owners, or it that dog was yours, you have to get that dog away from the guests.
Place is recommended for a try, mexican burgers and blonde ale.

Zwakala means 'come closer' - if only we could've! Just a note, if it's been raining, the road to the brewery is inaccessible to low cars (some 4x4s even got stuck) so keep that in mind before taking a drive out. Still giving 5 stars because the pics look nice and we had some of the beer in pubs around the area ;D

We stopped here for lunch after our mountain bike ride. Great tasting ciders and beers.
The burger was amazing. It tasted like outside (minty, fresh), the woods in your mouth.

Wow, what an amazing place! Samuel was such a friendly host. He showed us around and was able to answer all questions directed to him.
Samuel is such a knowledgeable guide. He even knows the crocs by names.
We really enjoyed the part when he fed crocodiles with chickens and they fought over that.
I also loved the area which is so green all over.
Our visit was worth it.

We visited this place today (31/12/2023).
I would give the place a 5 star rating but I think the gentleman receiving payments can still improve on showing warmth when welcoming visitors.
On the other hand, our guide Sam, made the whole visit a pleasant, enjoyable and informative experience. The kids loved his demonstrations when sharing information about crocodiles. The kids also got an opportunity to feed the crocodiles and they loved the experience. We also learnt a lot as adults.

The road to these falls is a bit treacherous but it is worth the effort. The falls are impressive and there is a big, well maintained picnic area with ablution facilities. The entrance fee is R35 per person, but it is worth it.
Nick Dempers — Google review
Such beautiful falls. Safe to move around and a nice small circle hike in the forest.
The road in was very slippery on one section, but fair the rest. We had quite a bit of rain during the time.
A must visit.
Christiaan Engelbrecht — Google review
Beautiful, Great place to relax or chill. Road leading to waterfall is ok for small vehicles but requires patience. Its regularly maintained.
Leo NS — Google review
Paid the falls an impromptu visit and so glad we did. Even just the drive to the entrance is worth while....beautiful forested mountain road but take it easy, rocky in places! The falls have a lovely well-maintained picnic area with a clean bathroom 🚻 facility. Be careful - the rocks can be slippery and keep an eye on your little ones.
R35 entrance fee....cash only please. Pack a picnic and immerse yourself in nature. You'll be glad you did! P.S. No swimming allowed
Marcelle Armstrong — Google review
I have been here 3 times. This instance it was flooding with heavy rains, amazing! Lots of benches, parking. The road is good, has been graded and not too many slippery rocks or puddles. There is a toilet at the site.

Beautiful hidden within the evergreen rainy forest. Breath taking, clean toilets, nice picnic area, to chill and enjoy with family. Hiking trails, spectacular view when driving to the waterfall.

After being closed for police activity I can say the views are nice but nor being able to enjoy the water takes away any reason to pay an entrance fee which should be used to upgrade, repairs.

I am definitely going back and this time I'm taking my entire family. The scenery is out of this world, the drive on the mountain as you're going to the fall is interesting(but please don't use a small car as you won't enjoy the gravel road) I loved the picnic and braai area is it caters for everyone(young and old).

Lovely cool place. Nice shades. Entrance is R45 per person. The dust road is really something else but manageable and worth it.
Great place to take kids

Lovely waterfalls with picnic facilities and walking trails. Clean and well maintained.
Kevin Jamison — Google review
The pond looks attractive and shallow but its actually deep and there’s some sort of vacuum inside the water. My cousin fell inside and when he was trying to get out the walls were to slippery for him to drag himself out and the vacuum inside kept pulling him down when he tried to swim up. To make things worse a Green mamba appeared inside the water. Luckily we were able to pull him out. This place is very dangerous, look up articles on the place. A couple of people have died.
Mathanya Ramaboea — Google review
A nice quick outing or a good picnic spot. Unfortunately the waterfall and streams have been cordoned off for safety reasons and this makes it a bit unsightly. Very clean and there are bathrooms and picnic tables. Entrance is R45 pp, kids free.

The falls are gorgeous! Was nice to spend an hour or two walking the trails and seeing the waterfalls! The volume of water had receded we were told so I'm guessing after good rain they are beautiful

Went to earth spa to treat a friend before her wedding. We did the bridal package and it was truly amazing!! There was nothing I could even imagine of complaining about. Everything was perfect! The spa, the staff , the facilities, everything! I just wish we actually booked to stay there for the night... next time I definitely will.
ruan weltz — Google review
Booked a massage package (earth spa rejuvenate) for a friend on her birthday(15 June). An hour later they call to ask us to move the time as they have double booked with no staff which we later sorted... Or so we thought. Upon arrival, we were told that the massage will be changed as they have to accommodate another client! Are we not clients I asked. No answer.
The starting time was delayed by over 40mins, finishing time brought forward by over 40mins to accommodate another client.... Can only assume their business is more valuable than ours. A 3hour session which did not even last 2hours.
The attitude of the staff was appalling, she kept on saying she was not suppose to be at work as if she is doing us a favour. A day which had promised much disappointed.
1. Botched booking
2. Unprofessional staff
3. Service standard below par
4. Service promise not met
5. Overall unprofessional service which ruined our day.
Livid with the place and I feel cheated at the very least
vutlhari mavundza — Google review
I and two friends went into the spa during the women's day weekend. I clearly ordered the advertised women's day pamper package, but my friend were discouraged from choosing different treatments as mine even though the duration of their treatments was the same as mine. We all then opted for the same treatment, the women's day pamper treatment, which turned out to be a waste of time and a real disaster. The package promised a full mani and pedi, fullbody massage and a facial; we swapped our facial treatments for some time in the steam room. We did not receive our mani and pedi because it was later explained that the therapists decided to scrub our feet instead, and when we complained we were told that we could come back the next day at 7am for a hand filing and buffing. All the way from Haenertsburg. The ladies were so arrogant and didnt even have any regrets.
The spa is beautiful but we were really disappointed with how the three of us had to undress in the therapy room and be massaged with our bags there. When asked whether there are lockers for our clothes so we could go and relax in the steam room, we were told that we should leave our clothes there, they will watch over them and nothing would happen. That is really unprofessional.
The biggest turn off was having three women dressing up in one tiny therapy room while the therapists were busy stripping off the linen in our presence. This was a awful spa experience.

What a brilliant morning thanks to the amazing staff at the Earth Spa 🌎❤️
Absolutely a waste of time! We drove an hour to be overcharged to see a big tree ultimately! R25 per person with no actual bar or service. It was dirty and broken so as a result the baobab is rotting and attracting all sorts of bugs! Stay away and don't support this money making scheme
Sarah Kardolus — Google review
The Baobab is 1100 years old, not 6000 years old as written in many travel guides. Unfortunately it is now mostly destroyed. Not beautiful to see this old giant rotting. Taking an entrance fee for this is a rip off.
Manuel — Google review
Although the massive baobab is impressive, I don't think it is worth driving up there and paying 25 Rand per person. Maybe it was worth it before the tree collapsed.
Frank Barten — Google review
The facilities are so run down. The actual bar is so disappointing. Been wanting to go there for ages and was so disappointed. The road leading to the tree is a sand road and in aweful condition.
Tracy Kardolus — Google review
It is an interesting thing to see, but don't go all the way out of your way to come see it because the facility isn't well taken care of, the final 3 km of road to get there are horrible, and there is no restaurant - just drinks. By the way the tree inside smells so bad and the smell will stay on you for some time!! The only good thing about this place is you can take some nice pictures!
Mohammad Eid — Google review
Even though a little run down. I still thought it was something amazing to see.
Stephanus Venter — Google review
The tree is quite a sight! Humbling to stand in the shade of a ±1200 living thing! The location is someone of a let down however. The buildings aren't well taken care of and while the staff may be friendly the service is lackluster. It also seems strange to have to pay R25pp just to look at the tree?

The place is outdated, the kitchen not well placed, if you know north of Limpopo you know it's is always crispy hot and to have a swimming pool that is not working was such a disappointment, the water looks like it hasn't been cleaned if months.
The rooms, it really is not worth the money, definitely not coming back here.
Great Zimbabwe National Monument is a hilltop archaeological site that showcases the historic Bantu city dating from the 11th to 14th centuries. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed site offers evidence of advanced ancient African civilization. Divided into major ruins including the Hill Complex, Valley, and Great Enclosure, it stands as a testament to remarkable craftsmanship with walls still standing without mortar or reinforcement.
A great and rich cultural heritage site. No explanation is enough to explain how they cut out so many rocks into brick shapes. I suggest that they selected them from across greater areas. Absents of an excavation site proves that the rocks came far.

I really was excited to see the ruins which have been standing tall for over 200 years. My experience was great on my own but my guide was ummm weird. He didn't like answering questions and he kept on insisting that we hurry up. Couldnt take enough pics. I mean we visit such places for the pictorial memories. Had to go back for another tour so that i could enjoy the scenery which i did.

Great history is being preserved at this place and amazingly the walls are standing strong without mortar or much reinforcement from the present. My family has a great appreciation of the walls more than learning from History and they marveled at its beauty still and workmanship displayed by the people who constructed. How excellent they cited the hill complex and the great wall. So amazing. After the hike, most of my family members were dragging their feet... They got their moral back after being welcomed by a traditional dance group that's resident besides the great wall. This energised them to go and see the great wall and to their amazement it was not just a wall but a well calculated and carefully constructed wall for the ladies... Sadly, our timing was bad we missed the library at the monuments though we had a great time...

Great experience. Makes for a worthy hike to the upper part of the site, with the added fun of exploring a structure built hundreds of years ago. The Great Zimbabwe is said to be Africa’s second largest man-made structure behind only the pyramids of Egypt. It only took about three hours to see everything but it was well worth the time and energy!

With the presence of a tour guide, you appreciate the history and background of this magnificent structure. Some of the stats were really hard to believe but who knows lol. A lot of unclear versions are speculated about these structures but one thing for sure is they were r really advanced in their plots and desighn

A must see! The history of the Shona people of Zimbabwe is richly laid out here. The stone structures are a wonder to see. A city larger in structure and population than London at the time of its height, Great Zimbabwe is compulsory to visit when you are in Zimbabwe...as a local and as a visitor to the country

Our guide was extremely informative and experienced. We arrived late afternoon in the hotel adjoining the park. Spent a very comfortable evening there. Good dinner. Rooms were very clean. Went to the ruins the next morning very early at 7am. Paid the entrance fees in US$. The guide gave us a briefing before we embarked up the mountain ⛰️. The walk was somewhat difficult. She explained how the servants of the King brought up food and water there every day. We visited the royal chambers.. Where beasts were sacrificed. The lookout post over the valley and the Queen's Palace. We saw the National Symbols of Zimbabwe in the Museum below. The Queen's palace is what is most photographed in the world with its narrow passages. Different chambers for young men and Women. It is definitely worth a visit. Bookings in advance is essential. Can't visit the site without a Guide. Take enough water with you. It's gets hot very quickly. The walk around the site takes about 3 to 4 hours. Wear a hat and comfortable shoes.

Truly a "once in a lifetime" trip. The week flew by and yet felt like a month's worth of experiences. Maddie, Bright and the entire Imire staff are absolutely amazing hosts/ guides. I can't believe the close experiences I had with animals here. I also really loved the community projects we worked on. Such an unforgettable week. If you're considering a volunteer trip, this should be it!! Such an incredible value!!
Melanie Carlson — Google review
My husband and I did a one week volunteer program at Imire and the first thing that comes to mind is that it was absolutely life-changing. As an animal enthusiast, I’ve always wanted to be up close and personal to the animals.
At Imire, not only did we get to learn about the animals and their drives but we got to meet these amazing people that take care of these wild animals as if their own. The workers are so passionate about what they do and take great pride in it. They work six days a week, and being at the conservancy, if there are any issues they will come on their day off to help out if needed. Regardless of the number of hours they were at or how tired they were they always had a smile on their face and it was just extremely welcoming.
One week was not enough time at Imire. We’ve been back for two months now and we constantly think about our experience there and cannot wait till one day go back.
Thank you Imire. We are forever grateful.

Beautiful private game park with a good variety of animals and fantastic facilities. The animals are fed and reasonably tame so it's not quite the same as other more natural game parks. As the animals are fed you are pretty much guaranteed to get to see lots of different types of animals up close including being able to pat/feed/get photos with some very large elephants. The animals seem to be pretty well looked after and in good condition.

I am so excited about joining the wildlife program next year.😎🇿🇼

Located just over an hour's drive out of Harare, Gosho Park offers a convenient get away. It is a wonderful place to braai, go hiking, picnic, and game view. It is child friendly and reasonably priced. You do pay per person and per vehicle. It may be worth pooling into one vehicle if there is a group of you, but considering your money goes into supplementing the animals' diets in the dry season, pays workers' wages and goes towards maintenance of the chalets, to name a few, it is money worth spent!

First visit ever on New Year's day, and what a treat. Highly recommended ! Great facilities - braai areas complete with wood, wooden tables, toilets. We saw impala, kudu, wildebeest, zebra, baboons and plenty of interesting birds and bugs. Roads are a bit rough, but very easy in a 4 x 4 or a car with high clearance.
