Aha Lesedi Cultural Village is an eco-lodge situated in the rocky hills outside Johannesburg, offering bright rooms that showcase a tribal-inspired design. The lodge comprises traditional homesteads representing various tribal cultures such as Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Ndebele and Basotho. It provides a unique opportunity to experience South Africa's diverse cultural heritage firsthand with great performances of drumming, dancing and singing by talented locals.
Please bear in mind that the village has not had income for two years due to covid. They are so grateful for every single tourist who visits. They bend over backwards to be helpful and their enthusiasm is contagious. This is a super entertaining and educational experience. We slept over and ate with the guys. It was truly awesome and we cannot recommend the experience more highly.

We went for the lunch and dance with the tour around the villages, was such a great experience to learn some things about the culture. Was interactive playing drums and learning a few hello words for each culture. Bring your camera .Food was amazing , though not sure what was on the menu, plenty of gifts to buy as well. Fantastic experience that you should definitely check out. Just wear good shoes though walk isn't huge the path a little uneven and for the elderly you may need wheel chair or walker as I seen some get tired on the tour.

I came for the tour and lunch, at and it was fabulous! I really enjoyed learning about the local traditions. The only thing I wished they would improve is selling a guidebook with all the information they shared during the tour.
Shoshana Gleit — Google review
We just went to their tour, show and lunch, no overnight stay. We really enjoyed the dances in particular. The lunch was very good and I would advise adding it into the tour and show.

A true South African cultural experience. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food was very and and really represent our country. The Dance show was very good and we enjoyed it. A must see experience.

You experience culture and peace in seclusion. Funny but good thing is the place evokes respectful, accomodative, inclusion and neighbourly vibe among guests. You experience cultural dance and singing. Housekeepers and hosts and hostess make you feel so at home you'd feel weird if someone addressed you as sir or ma'am. There are TVs in the rooms for some of us who are "addicts," but of course if it distorts the ambience for you, you can treat it as abstract decor😊.

Great experience and we had an amazing tour guide. I enjoyed coming home and bringing my USA family to learn more about the cultures in SA. Shopping was great too. Way to go guys.

Visiting Lesedi from Chile
It is what I consider a sample of African culture and I think it was absolutely worth it. Over the course of a morning they welcomed us with a welcome song, then an entertaining recreational activity with African drums, to give way to the most impressive: tribal dances to the rhythm of percussion. A good demonstration of the skill and musical sense of the cradle of the rhythms that circulate around the world. Afterwards we continue with a brief description of each of the tribes that are part of South Africa, through a walk to the village with a very histrionic and friendly guide. At the end, we had typical food for lunch (which I really enjoyed). If you are passing through Johannesburg, and are interested in knowing a little more about Africa, I think it is well worth visiting Lesedi. I booked the tour through Airbnb

Great drumming, dancing and singing performances, lots of souvenirs for sale and an excellent tour around the different cultural villages.

The main meals are good but the tea cookies not so great. The dancers and tour guide are professional. Accommodation is not too bad but there's no fridge, iron in the room. The aircon was not working but the ceiling fan stood in the gap. The mood is good and rural especially for an urban dweller.
Solomon Matli — Google review
Drumming session was amazing. The cultural aspect and story telling through dancing very good. Food amazing, great variety with crocodile and real South African food. The hotel part is good, but for day-visitors the experience and facilities is not the same that 8 years ago.
aha need to give Lesedi a bit of TLC. To many small infrastructral problems show and maintanance must be priority.
Update: So I visited yesterday after a couple months and I can see the place is busy with renovations painting. Lots of tourist for the day. Food very good. Defnitly some improvements.

Really beautiful. Much bigger than I thought and comfortable rooms. Really delicious meals and good choice to choose from. Friendly and efficient staff and service. Thank you.

This is very basic. The cultural experience is incredibly noisy with mainly drums & dancers. The food is very basic. The rooms are also not of a high standard with limited electrical sockets in awkward to reach places
David Elliott — Google review
The rooms look great, it really looks like a cultural village. The service is just okay, not bad and not great, they don't have a water dispenser at breakfast which is shocking. I enjoyed my breakfast and dinner was just okay and not exciting. I love that we get to eat a lot of veggies at dinner. The location is perfect, there's a lot of activities

Interesting accommodation, basic but perfectly satisfactory. Great cultural entertainment in evenings. Food choices ok. Staff friendly and attentive. Appreciated our novel early morning wake-up call from the gentlemen man playing guitar outside

Although it's quite a distance from where i live. Im glad that i got to experience this wonderful heritage and cultural preservation space. I learnt a great deal from the knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. The dancers are so fit and full of passion and energy. I highly recommend this experience and environment. A true national tressure.

We paid for the dance and dinner package. The dance was okay. The dinner was a huge disappointment. Not only was the buffet limited to a few selections, the food was cold cold, the beef stew was stone cold, it was inedible. We told the waitress about it and she just mumbled something and shrugged us off and vanished.
Same with the dessert, the custard was cold.
Were were told dinner is served from 6 - 8pm. Were were there at
6:45pm, so it cant be a case of being late and found them ready to pack up.
If it hadn't been for the fact that we had already paid for the buffet and were tired and were also not so familiar with the area, we would not have eaten there and gone to find dinner elsewhere.
We went there for a one night stay only (Sat night). Did not do the tour.

A good place to know culture of South africa. Many tour operators may take you there buy if you can ride by your self its 40 minutes drive away from protea
The Bothongo Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve, located less than 30 miles northwest of Johannesburg, is a nature reserve dedicated to the preservation of endangered species such as lions, rhinos, cheetahs and vultures. The privately-owned reserve covers an area of 3,000 acres and is home to over 600 animals from more than 30 different species including giraffes, hippos, flamingos and ostriches.
We stayed 2 nights in the cabin log with jacuzzi and we had a wonderful time. The chalet was not brand new but well equipped, clean and comfortable for us. We had a Rhino with the baby stayed in front of our cabin the whole night. We would definitely go again.

A really great family friendly day out. Not a far drive from Johannesburg, loads of animals to see - you see them up close and in families and herds. Really great experience to see predator feeding.
The reptile show was educational and entertaining and the show was hosted by a fantastic female host... I've never seen a female snake handler before. She really was amazing!
The animals are all well taken care of and those in enclosures have a reasonable amount of space to roam.
All staff were very helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable.
The bike park was a nice extra touch! Kids enjoyed that too.
We were really pleasantly surprised by this amazing place. Definitely a must visit for families with kids. Great value for the price.
We only didn't get to visit the Wonder Caves because the times overlapped with other activities.
Vindana Chibabhai — Google review
The drive to get to the reserve is scenic and easy to navigate. The tickets office were very helpful. The driver started the drive in time, was very accommodating. He was very knowledgeable and professional. The reserve has a variety of animals that we were able to see and learn about. We did not get to see the lions because we went a day after the feeding so would recommend going on feeding day if you want a sighting of the lions.

Beautiful views and majestic animal sightings. The retail park is also very informative, including the bird sanctuary. It's well worth it R450 per vehicle for the game drive, you get access to the predator feed at 1pm and reptile show at 2.30. You also have access to view the captive animals, including tiger, hippo, cheetah, leopard, jaguar, panther, lynx, etc. Beautiful place to visit with the family.

Great setting, great facilities, perfect for families and or couples. Great start point for cycling the Cradle. Central and secure, Plenty of parking. Cautious guards on duty.
Wonderful restaurant setting. Highly recommended.

This was my fourth visit to the Rhino and Lion Park and it is absolutely great. There is so much to see. Every 5km we would see animals, the wild cats that were hiding or sleeping all woke up during feeding time which was cool to watch. Entry to the park is R220.00 per person and schedule nothing less than 4 hours to drive around.
Larce Raymann — Google review
I really, really loved this place. Went there with my partner and friends, I would like to go back in summer when we can sit outside and enjoy the view.
I had a desert, and it was alright. This is a great place to go to with family or even as friends when you want to unwind and relax also to enjoy nature. There is a biking trail that I spotted , and you can also rent a bike so those activities need a nice hot summer day.
sthembile Buthelezi — Google review
A bit pricey compared to other zoos and national game parks but has the best of both worlds as it combines both zoo type enclosures as well as open game drive areas to view animals in natural habitats.
Widest selection of bigs cats i have ever seen, especially ligers which were huge. Also experienced rhino and buffalo very close to our vehicle. White lioness coming directly towards our vehicle was a surreal experience though a bit terrifying at the same time. Variety of leopards in enclosures to be seen along with gorgeous white tigers. Only one of the big 5 we did not see was the elephant. Tons of other animals like ostrich, buck and hippo to see as well a giraffe feeding experience at the restaurant.
Given the price would ensure you spend the entire day there to get the best value as there are many other facilities for kids -play areas, slides etc.

Went for a day, to the restaurant. Let’s start with the drive: lovely views of mountains and green trees —felt like a local gateway which was fun. The entrance is clean and well-maintained. This place is popular for their restaurant, but it also offers overnight accommodation and a game drive.
We went to the restaurant, the attraction point is *drum roll* feeding the giraffe😅 while you wait for your meal or after your meal, you have the option to feed the giraffe for R50 (how cool).
The food was amazing, and well priced. It’s a good place to go for a first-date, birthday celebration or just a simple Sunday family outing. Definitely recommend!

Really yummy pizza!! Beer on tap. Bring your cozzie, there's a pool!
Was lovely to feed and pet a giraffe for the first time in my life - but shame, he/she needs a friend ☺️

This place will be amazing for kids parties and introducing them to animals. The enclosures are well kept and the animals well looked after.
The road inside the big cats enclosures are best suted for a vehicle that has a higher ground clearance than usual. We went in a Audi and won't recommend it, but if you have a bakkie or SUV definitely try it out. Was a lovely day and will definitely go back.

I love nature a lot. Being at this place felt like home. It’s a beautiful well looked after place. The views and the tranquility and being one with nature it’s an unexplainable feeling. Met a few lovely people and it was really beautiful. It’s definitely a place to visit with family and friends. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

A real game farm on your doorstep.
Only 40 minutes drive to a game farm that has truly amazing experiences.
Lion, white lion, cheetah, tigers and leopards, to name a small percentage of what we got to see.
The drive in the park can take you the whole day, if you want, with a large picnic area where you can braai.
Definitely worth the drive.
Also an amazing place to take your visitors from out of the country to experience wildlife without leaving the city.
The "neck and deck" restaurant at the entrance gives you an opportunity to see giraffe close and personal. Food and service at restaurant is average and offering could be better.
Sean Laurens — Google review
Always a great day out with lots to see in the main reserve.
At the "centre" of the reserve is a "zoo" with a large variety of animals including a tiger.
There's also a bike track and play area for the kids + giraffe feeding at the "entrance".

Our visit to Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve was truly unforgettable! From the moment we stepped foot in the reserve, it was evident that we were in for an incredible experience. Watching the majestic lions and even having the opportunity to feed them was a highlight for both the kids and us.
The safari experience at Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve was exceptional. The knowledgeable guides ensured that we got up close and personal with a variety of animals, making it an educational and thrilling adventure for the whole family. We were delighted to see so many different species in their natural habitat, which left us with a sense of wonder and appreciation for the diversity of wildlife.
Overall, our day trip to Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve exceeded our expectations in every way. It was a perfect blend of excitement, education, and family bonding. We highly recommend this reserve to anyone looking for an unforgettable safari experience.

We had a great Valentine's experience at the Bothongo Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve. The game drive was awesome, saw rhinos in the distance and white & brown lions up close! The dinner at the on site Deck & Neck restaurant was outstanding.

Great safari experience, highly recommend! Us as a family with your children, we loved seeing all the animals. And we saw sow many of them! Was a great day trip!

Cars can go for safari here, if you don’t have car then you can choose open safari vehicle. There is a feeding time for lions, wild dogs, cheetahs. There is a cave, visit it. This area is safe. The staffs are friendly. It is completely outside of Johannesburg. While returning it would be tough to get taxis using bolt or uber. Come here at 9 or 10 AM and spend enough time here. 3 hours could be enough but with kids, you can spend more time. Photographers must bring good zooming lens.
Aranganathan S — Google review
I visited the reserve on Sunday for a light lunch and not a game drive. Great views, and the food tastes equally good. A lot of cyclists normally have their lunch at the venue due to the area being an ideal place for cycling.

There is so much to do and see! Game drives, self-drives, predator feeding time (a must-see)!), reptile shows, vultures and so much more! The Wonder Caves are just WOW!! This park offers the perfect family day trip or weekend stay. There is a bike park and massive play park for the kids.

A great experience, bending, squating, walking up and down stairs and learning about caves and fossils. Thank you to our tour guide for the lovely explanations and answering all the questions. Recommended to all.

Amazing. The cave system is huge. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept the whole tour on track.
Beware, this can be a physically tough tour. Lots and lots of steps, steep incline and declines and very, very tight squeezes through the tunnel system. Hiking boots or trainers are the only suitable shoes.
This is a magical place. The geology and history of mankind locked in these caves is stunning.
When you exit the cave system, take a moment to appreciate the highveld scenery... It is breathtaking

Why have we never done this??? What a magnificent experience! Ourbtour guide was friendly and professional. The caves were spectacular. And the museum building was excellent. There were some challenging parts in the caves to crawl and slide through, but all part of a great experience.

Awesome experience for the whole family. Tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the cave and the surroundings. Place well kept and neat and you receive clear instructions when you arrive.

The cave tour was really nice, something you should definitely do once. Our tour guide was AMAZING, (Think his name was Mfanna) very Historical, knowledgeable and full of fun jokes... Keep up the great service- Even the restaurant and bathrooms were sparkling clean and the food was great! The Museum building that you can walk through before or after your tour is also packed with lots of interesting historical findings.
Spend some time (reading) in the museum before your cave tour because you are a bit tired afterwards to do so. There are ALOT of stairs/steps, some parts of the cave are muddy and other parts are very dusty, but overall I enjoyed it so much.

Must go outing, for those living in Gauteng.
We took our kids for a short trip on Sunday afternoon.
The caves present a different experience to what most outdoor activities in Gauteng have to offer. Going down into a prehistoric cave is a refreshing break, especially for those of us with kids younger than 10.

O my, this was an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend it 👌.
Take a flashlight, you definitely want to see everything in there.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, there are a few narrow spots that you have to climb through. It is a total workout, lots of stair climbing. Have something to drink afterwards at the restaurant.
Enjoy the experience!

Our learners were very excited to learn new things and get to see and touch different historical pieces they only read in books such as the Millennium Sundial time track, this was an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend it to other schools👌. It's also a place to visit for families too. You just need to take a flashlight, you definitely want to see everything in there.
Moreover this couldn't have been that exciting if it had not been for the well informed Tour guide we had, Mr Kamogelo. Thank you and keep it up.
nyasha bevington — Google review
This was such great fun with a professional friendly guide who took us through the caves and explained everything in detail. There is an area to sit at where one can order food and drinks. Great way to spend a Sunday.
The only thing i did not like is seeing how people litter with their masks and hair nets. Not cool. Throw your litter away and respect our earth.
Catherine Reynolds — Google review
Impressive caves with a rich history and importance for humanity. Nearly all of the publicly available parts of the cave are lit, the slopes are cut into stairs and the path is covered in thick anti-slippery floor mats.
The cave has many halls of impressive size, with the most impressive perhaps being the Elephant hall.
The guides are knowledgeable and friendly and you are certain to get a good history lecture on the fossils found in the cave.
Bringing children is not a problem, but infants and toddlers will be a bit challenging, though not impossible. They have no toddler-sized helmets and there is one steep and narrow descending passage while leaving the cave which requires you to crunch down while simultaneously holding your child in your arms, which requires some agility and dexterity.
Located on Irene Dairy Farm in Centurion, The Barn Restaurant offers a variety of delicious dishes for families to enjoy. Outdoor seating under the old oak trees allows for a relaxing day out with friends. There is also an opportunity to see farm animals and jungle gyms.
A beautiful farm in the middle of the city! Take family and friends on a weekend outing to relax and have something to eat at one of the restaurants or buy some snacks at the deli. There is a play area for the kids. Irene Farm is an absolute gem! From the moment I stepped foot on their beautiful grounds, I was greeted with warm smiles and a sense of tranquility. The farm's picturesque landscape is simply breathtaking, with lush green pastures, charming farm animals, and lovely gardens that create a peaceful ambiance.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the farm-to-table dining experience at Irene Farm's restaurant. The menu boasts an array of delectable dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Each bite was a burst of flavors, and the quality and care put into the preparation were evident.
Furthermore, Irene Farm offers a variety of activities for visitors of all ages. The farm is an ideal destination for families, school trips, or anyone seeking a memorable and enriching experience.
Irene Farm truly embodies the beauty of farm life and provides a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city living. It's a place where you can reconnect with nature, indulge in delicious food, and create lasting memories. I wholeheartedly recommend Irene Farm to anyone seeking a delightful and authentic farm experience.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Irene Farm. It's beautiful there and as an active diary farm city kids get to experience a small piece of farm life. The restaurant is good, the pizzas and crispy chicken strips were delicious. The kids enjoyed the milkshakes. There is a really nice farm shop just before you leave with loads of ready made meals. Only downside for me is it appears bigger than it is and alot of the farm is off limits to the public. It's not place you can enjoy long walks in nature. Overall worth the visit!

Lots of flies, but that’s the nature of hanging out with cows!

Parts of the farm I liked especially the Deli. The Deli also has so many things to buy like souvenirs... If you like restaurants that are rustic than you would love the farm. Great place to bring your family also and there's a wishing well which proceeds are donated to charity. I liked walking around some areas of the park. It has a very country feel and if you are an animal lover than you're going to certainly enjoy the farm.

It is a good idea to call and book a table because it gets quite busy. If you do not book then do not get here hungry because you stand a high chance of being on a waiting list for a table at the Barn restaurant. The food was nicely prepared and well presented, just takes time when it is busy like the time I was there. I was happy with the overall service and experience though.

I thoroughly enjoyed the vegan banana crumpet with berry compote and coconut cream and the cappuccino with cream was delicious. As it is a favourite venue over the week-end, it can be filled with a mixture of conversations including youngsters ensuring they receive the needed attention from their caregivers. I suspect it might be more tranquil during the week. The deli is filled with numerous sweet and savoury temptations.

This was an amazing experience. There's a festival vibe here that gets you all excited. We had to write our name on the waiting list but we barely had time to walk through the local produce shop before we were called on the cellphone.
The Barn restaurant is such a lekker place to sit outside with mist spraying sprinklers to cool you down.
My wife said the burger she ate was the best burger she's ever had and I have to admit the gourmet burger I had is going to be very hard to beat. They aren't cheap burgers but you can understand why when you take the first bite.
I'd love to come back here every weekend, just a pity I stay so far.

The farm is a beautiful place for families to enjoy. I went there with my partner about a week ago, i must say that we waited for about 45mins before we got a table @TheBarn and the table for 2 felt like an after thought. The service was not that great, the waitress didn't inform us of the fact that they only take cards and not cash and when we asked for the manager she flat out said no! Our day was ruined.
The food was okay I guess, it wasn't that great my partner got a steak with veggies, the veggies were frozen and not fresh. The water from the veggies ruined the meal. I got a burger with fries, the fries were great but the burger was dry.
Great place but lacks enough sitting. It could also use with some entertainment like music/ band from time to time.
From a scale of 1-5 I'll give it 3 stars due to the fact that it is a beautiful place. Would I go again?...maybe but i would not eat at the Barn. I would spend the day with the family because of the fact that it is free but then eat somewhere else.

The Irene Village Mall is a leafy outdoor shopping village with more than 90 shops and restaurants, as well as a cinema. It was previously closed due to the hurricane, but reopened in mid-October and plans to continue bringing visitors a relaxing evening filled with delicious food and refreshing drinks. Keep an eye on their Facebook page to stay up to date with the latest news and information.
A quaint, laid-back mall, providing several well-known brands, but still maintaining a bit of that 'village' atmosphere. Since about the time of the onset of Covid, parking in the mall is free, even in the basement covered parking lot. Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations are conveniently positioned in the basement parking to cater to a growing trend. There is an escalator (as well as l a lift) from the basement to the ground floor, leading out onto a picturesque centre court with a fountain that is lit up, especially at night, and that sees children enjoying themselves mostly in the hot summer months. The udder side of a cow is another focal point, and kids are allowed to scramble up the bovine sculpture for a closer look and feel. Recently, several of the stores have been upgraded, and a few even relocated within the shopping precinct. A pleasant, easygoing experience, with undercover tables linked to the available restaurants giving one a view of the water fountains - a boon for keeping an eye on the kids playing in or around it. A very pleasant venue for evening drinks together with a bite to eat after doing your shopping.

This was my first visit to Irene Village Mall despite driving by many times. I love the open skyline between the shops. It's clean and well kept. Really enjoyed my first but definitely not the last visit to Irene Village Mall 🙂.

Irene Village Mall.
Wow, what a beautiful mall.
It's not too big and it's really clean.
It also has a village type of vibe going on. When you walk in by the entrance of the mall, you feel like you are walking into a village. Aww 😍🥺💛
What I love about this mall is the fact that it's not too busy. You are able to shop in peace and without bumping into anyone. The mall is so peaceful 😭😭❤️✨ unfortunately it's far from home but if I lived nearby, I'd go there every chance I get.
But a disadvantage here would be that it doesn't have a lot of stores like your popular malls do but if you are looking for basic needs then ah, sorted! It has various restaurants that you can visit, like Rocco Mama's, Wimpy, Ocean Basket etc. ❤️ If you are a movie lover, there is a Ster-Kinekor ✨✨
There is also a carousel for the young ones to enjoy and also a mini train for children to enjoy. ⛲💦

This mall gives a European feel to the shopping experience and has good quality shops even though it is a rather small mall. It also has good quality restaurants with a very nice open air area and a water feature where some restaurants are located. It provides a more relaxed shopping experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Parking is free, which is welcomed.
Kirsten van der Merwe — Google review
As the name implies the mall has a village atmosphere. A wide variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment. The central square with water feature is particularly popular with young children.

Had a good meal. The food is good and staff are attentive. Pasta sauce was a bit runny. The chicken was very tasty. Worth the visit.

A lovely mall! Irene Village Mall has a great mix of shops and restaurants, and a wonderful outdoor shopping experience.
While it doesn’t have all the shops you’ll probably be looking for (but honestly, the ones that do are too big anyway). The only thing that keeps it from being a 5-star mall is the dead average Pick n Pay.
But, they do offer electric car charging, which is awesome!
The mall offers one thing that no other mall does … birds! In the evening, at sunset, you can stand on the balcony at the cinemas, and watch as thousands of birds fly between the tree-lined plaza. Honestly, it’s magical!

I always love going to this mall. The parking is free and even the under cover parking is free. There are plenty of nice shops available, and because the mall is open air and not under an enclosed roof, you never feel crowded.
The Pick 'n pay has just been revamped, and it's beautiful.

The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden is a large and peaceful botanical garden in Roodepoort, Johannesburg. The garden has several picnic areas, birdwatching trails and indigenous plants and wildlife. It is one of the great escapes of Johannesburg, and is great for the entire family to enjoy.
A wonderful place to find some peace in the city. The garden is pure pleasure for bird lovers and for those interested in our rich heritage of indigenous plants. Remember: Tuesdays are Pensioners Day and entry is free. PS: the restaurant is not bad either.

Beautiful park with a lovely waterfall. Great for picnics and hiking. Lovely place to spend a day in the great outdoors. Went on a busy day with a nice flea market and live performances.
Great place for kids and adults alike, the kids play area was also good. The swings could be better maintained and so could be the toilets.
Restaurant was okay too.

I love this gem of serenity in the midst of our urban jungle. The eagles were in full view today. My boys did the hike up the hill to get a closer view of their nests while I relaxed at the waterfall. We hadnt been to the park in a while and I had forgotten how serene it could be especially on a weekday morning. Kids will enjoy the wide open spaces with ample place to play, the rock walk and the swings. A definite must visit if you are looking some time out in nature.
Dirosh Govender — Google review
Very beautiful, well maintained clean park. Cash is not accepted in the ticket counter. Those who don't have debit or credit cards, ask help from other travelers and pay them cash.
At the end of the park, there is water fall.
Park your car at your own risk. There are security guards at the parking lot. Bolt taxi is available in this area.
Good place for photographers. There is no need to get permission to take pictures using a tripod and a professional camera.

Beautiful 😍😍😍
The hike is amazing, it's not too long, but brace yourself for the steep. It's about 5km.
There are picnic spots and a restaurant. If you have a lot to carry from your car to the picnic spots, then worry not. There are several people in the parking lots with trolleys who will accompany you and all your things for R20.
Words are not enough to describe the beauty of this place, you just have to go see it for yourself 😊

One of if not the best parks in Johannesburg!
They have lots of picnic areas, I love the many benches you find around in the gardens (look out for them), they also have a restaurant where you can buy food or you can bring your own.
Love coming here, especially during the week as some weekends its just too full.
Great for the entire family, great place for you to cone enjoy the out doors and spend time with your loved ones.
Keep up the great work👌🏿👏🏿👌🏿👏🏿👌🏿

A truly fantastic botanical garden, offering a range of casual walks and rugged geological hiking trails for more adventurous sightseers.
The gardens are well laid out and kept in stunning condition.
There's plenty for the whole family to do, including play parks and trails for younger children, a beautiful restaurant and lots of open space to sit down, relax, and enjoy the view.
The centre point of the gardens is the waterfalls, which is an absolute must see. There's a rugged path that leads to the top of the falls and up into the surrounding hills. It's tough going, hard on the knees but the views make it altogether worthwhile.
Will definitely be back 😀

Absolutely beautiful.
Restroom facilities are not that great, but they are functioning and well maintained.
There is a restaurant there, but it closes an hour earlier than the gardens.
There are many beautiful paths to walk with benches along the route.
The outdoor gym is easy to find, and water fountains work.

A perfect spot to go and relax in nature. It is a short drive from either Pretoria or Johannesburg. If you want to do a lunch or picnic please use plastic containers like Tupperware because they do not have bin's for rubbish. Don't bring disposable cutlery. Respect Nature.

Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a large and untouched nature reserve in Gauteng, South Africa, home to four of The Big Five game animals - black wildebeest, buffalo, cheetah, and lion. Visitors can explore the reserve at their own leisure from the comfort of their car on easy day-trips. There are also guided hikes and horse trails available for those who want to get out more deeply into the reserve.
Must visit game reserve for the whole family. Much to see in terms of tons of bird species and plenty of animals that include the hippo and rhino. There are picnic and braai spots inside for relaxing. These spots must be vacated at 6pm, with the main gate closing at 7.
We got a bit lost inside on our way out because the roads are not properly marked with sensible directions. If you're gonna exit and are not too sure about the route, I recommend you start moving well on time.
Wonder Mahembe — Google review
Very well looked after nature reserve, just on the edge of the suburbs of Pretoria. There is a large dam and lots of grasslands as well as some small rivers and reed beds. There are buffalo, cheetah and other wildlife to see, but it is probably the bird life that makes this place so special. With a diversity of habitats you should easily able to see at least 50 different species in a few hours if you drive to different spots. There are also several well maintained birdhides where you can sit and admire the scenery while you lookout for birds. There is also a nice restaurant/coffee-shop where you can get a light snack and refreshments and enjoy sitting out in the peaceful gardens.
Mike Rogers — Google review
Support an excellent nature reserve right in the heart of Gauteng. Easy access from the main routes and they offer a number of facilities along with some excellent game viewing. Very good picnic/ braai facility with ablutions. A tea garden with good coffee or hot chocolate on those cold mornings. Self drive and game drive vehicles. Some unique animals if you are lucky and you can be home in time for lunch if you like.

What a wonderful surprise!
This tiny nature reserve seems well stocked and beautiful.
The roads are clearly marked and easy to drive.
There are several bird hides and loads to see.
There are picnic spots by the dam, and we loved that it was just a small drive out of the city.
R71 per adult.

A pleasant surprise. Though there was a queue we didn't regret waiting. Saw many animals up close including a rhino. Good viewing for the fee paid.

One of my favourite “in the wild” places to relax and unwind. Perfectly located between Kempton Park and Pretoria offering that “outdoor wildlife experience” without having to drive for hours. I haven’t been disappointed yet.
The birdlife is amazing. The hides are perfect for sunset photography. The cheetah’s are always on the list of animals to find. So far I have seen them 3 times… And with the cubs only a few months old it’s the perfect time to visit.
For the more adventurous there’s the wildlife walks and overnight camps. The tar roads are good, however, some of the sand roads need a little attention, especially if you’re in a sedan.
Tickets are purchased on arrival, but credit card only. No cash!

Looking for some quiet time in Nature just 30min out of Johannesburg? Then head out early to Rietvlei Nature Reserve in Pretoria. This beautiful reserve is a bird watchers dream, with tons of wild life too, buffalo, zebra, eland, jackal, serval as well as cheetah! You can only get out at demarcated areas and hides. There is a wonderful picnic site by the dam with loads of seating and braai facilities and there is a coffee shop that offers limited meals. Conservation fees are about R62 for adults (less for children and pensioners). Pack a picnic and head out for a lovely day away from the city hustle.
Don’t forget to pack binoculars and cameras. You can also download a basic bird and animal list from Google for the kids to mark off while driving around.
LISA LOWTH — Google review
We visited on a weekend in September 2023 before heading to the airport for our flight home. It was not too busy. There was a short wait to get a ticket, but the roads weren't too bad. It is a nice reserve to drive around and see wildlife. We found the signage extremely bad. This picture of a road sign, with missing arrows and letters peeling off was typical. The bathrooms were pretty bad too. This place could definitely use some maintenance.
Arthur de Wolf — Google review
Spent a relaxing afternoon driving around the reserve. It isn’t too big so it is a great way to introduce children to a game drive and the love of wild animals. The bird hides and lookout points were a highlight for the children and gave them an opportunity to stretch their legs. I was a bit disappointed with the coffee shop playground. I hope that it gets a revamp so that visiting children can take a break from the drive and recharge. I also hope that the friendly donkeys get better roof in the donkey pen. Overall it was a great afternoon driving through grasslands and wetlands. We saw rhino, zebra, waterbuck, guineafowl, blesbok and many birds. We just enjoyed being in nature.

Such a peaceful retreat, with a huge abundance of water, wildlife & birds.
Extremely affordable.
Roads are well kept but being mainly dirt roads, heavy rain falls can effect the condition thereof.
Photographers paradise.
Braai/picnic area & coffee shop.
Organized hikes & game drives.
Due to the recent heavy rain, some of the dirt roads have been closed off to the public

On my first visit I saw quite a variety of the animals. The clouds also played along to make the scenery more spectacular. Even heard some jackals while driving around the reserve.
The animals are so relaxed around the vehicles that you can have a nice close view of them🦓 I would recommend going here to anyone.

Had a great afternoon. Reasonable game viewing ending off with a cheetah sighting in the late afternoon (rare sighting so expectations should be moderated). Pretend you’re in the real bush and you’ll enjoy.

The price has gone up and is now currently more than what they indicate on the website. If I remember correctly, it is now R72 per adult to enter the nature reserve. I recommend going early to avoid standing in a queue to enter, which is what we did. Make sure to pack lots of fluids to drink and don't forget a camera or binoculars. A very nice day trip for the whole family!

I have visited Rietvlei twice in the last three months for birding. The place is well maintained, with clean toilets and hides. Unfortunately, the reed's around some of the hides are overgrown, making it difficult to see any water birds. The birds can be heard but not seen. I believe that if the reed's were cut a bit it would allow for better birding. The park itself has a good amount of animals and plenty of bird life. Roads are good in the dry season, but i think that in the wet season some of the dirt roads will be a challenge to normal cars. Picnic sites are clean and well maintained. It is a pleasure to visit this park.
Willie Swanepoel — Google review
Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a gem on the edge of town in Pretoria East. This quaint, small and stunning reserve is the perfect place for a day visit no matter the season. It has a nice selection of wildlife, often is the home of a cheetah or six, and has an abundance of birdlife that make it a birder's must visit. Animals are relaxed, and the "Friends of Rietvlei" keep the reserve well looked after. It has a beautifully selection of hides, picnic areas, a nice "Coffee Shop" where you can enjoy drinks and food, and the tar roads are well kept, and most of the dirt roads are in good condition too but some sections can be a bit challenging for an urban car especially after rain. The reserve is very popular on weekends, so things can be a bit messy on Mondays and Tuesdays around picnic areas, but usually by Wednesday everything is beautifully pristine again. If you do enjoy this reserve or want to become an avid visitor, join "Fiends of Rietvlei" membership to support the volunteers who look after the reserve, or join their efforts yourself.

Its a nice little urban reserve. Self drive through the reserve. many animals but we saw zebras, waterbugs, ostrich, few rhino, and beautiful bird life. The restaurant had delicious food. But was not very clean. Its an old farm house that needs a good clean.

I absolutely loved the place and the beauty it holds within. It is well maintained and kept clean. They also have some game animals too but none that are carnivorous or dangerous. It is massive and have things that you can do such as calm, quiet drives, hideouts, lapas and bomas and the dam is accessible for being on the water. It is definitely a family orientated place and the kids will be able to enjoy the day and have the best sleep that night.

I am not really big on places that have birds or animals kept in enclosures or for shows but I must say the animals and birds look pretty well looked after and most have good space to roam. One fun activity is feeding the ducks with special duck pellets but please only feed the ducks as they tell you. Otherwise, it's an interesting, interactive place for couples and families to explore together. Lots of interesting birds, reptiles and monkeys to see etc.

We went for a bird show and paid full price for 4 adults and 2 kids - all we got was a bird talk. A bit disappointing that we weren't told that there wasn't a bird show taking place that day. The garden areas were well kept and restaurant area good. Before you buy tickets at the front office, they should disclose if the bird show is taking place or not. Otherwise do a discounted ticket option without the show...

My family loved it. It's just big enough to get your muscles working in the open air but small enough to not become monotonous. The animals are all well-kept and have the freedom to roam the main enclosure so you get a real sense for the animals as you would find them out in the wild. The gardens are beautiful, and my kids enjoyed the bird show. There's a lovely cafe at the entrance with a play area for the kids next to the flamingo enclosure, which really does make for a brilliant wild experience right on our doorstep.

Still in great nick, well maintained, awesome selection of eateries, from both fast food to finer dining. The casino is also great fun and worth spending an hour or so trying to win the big one. There was a superb collection of vintage cars on show ahead of an auction, added to the overall feeling of a few hours well spent.

Monte is always a great place to go unwind.
I am not a gambler so the casino has no attraction for me. Fortunately the supporting restaurants, stores and entertainment venues are more than enough to keep even a non gambler entertained.
The restaurants are for the most part well priced and there is an excellent range so you can enjoy it on a budget.
The security is a great advantage as you can feel comfortable with letting the teens roam free without supervision and there are plenty of activities for them too.
Overall I think everyone should visit at least once to take in the sights and experience but I am confident that having visited once you will want to return again and again.

Our go to place for hanging out with friends. There is something for everyone here. You see all age groups of people. So many beautiful restaurants, casino to play, movies, food courts, arcade, bowling, laser tag, plays, desserts, shopping, everything. This place is also quite safe that we haven’t heard of any incidents that we are aware of.
The false ceiling and the fountains give it European vibe. You will take loads of pictures here. A must visit for anyone

Very nice setting and lots to do. Spoiled for choice on restaurants but can get very busy and expensive. Overall, a very nice experience. It's worth the visit when in Johannesburg. Check out the bird park as well.

Different restaurants make it better for you to choose from the best also they do have clubs I was very impressed. They do have some shopping clothes as well.. if you have been to emperor place just imagine double size of it with lots of restaurants and out door ones for smokers with a great view as well I’ll definitely do this again

Visited on a weekend with friends and family. Even 2 small kids are with us. And for everyone it is very very great place to spend time. You have all kinds of restaurants, gaming zone, casino , kids area etc. You even have a place where you can leave your kids in the care zone and go for a movie or play in the casino. We had lunch at an Indian Restaurant, the place is very good and well maintained.

👌🏽👌🏽 Very clean. Perfect for the whole family. There's a cinema, casino, games (arcade, bowling, etc) and lovely restaurants. The overall design is awesome, it has an Italian feel. Sort of feels like a night out in Italy. You will understand it once you get there. So go go go 🤭

This is definitely a must go place for those who've never been there, the place is beautiful and it's warm inside so there's no need to overdress. Amazing activities to do inside if going as a group also an amazing place for a date with amazing restaurants and bars. I've been there four times this year that's how I've fallen in love with the place. NEXT TIME I'M GOING TO THE CASINO🤞

Very nice family friendly place, as like other casino, R10 parking for the duration of your visit. Magic world play area well equipped to entertain the entire family, just gets a bit crowded. More then enough restaurants for your liking, witnessed at some restaurants you'll que up to get inside, which give indication the restaurants food are well sought after. So yah it's worth the drive to spend your day with the kids.

Montecasino in Johannesburg is an absolute gem and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great entertainment experience.
In addition to the casino, Montecasino also offers a fantastic selection of restaurants, bars, and cafes. Whether you're in the mood for a casual meal or a fine dining experience, you're sure to find something to suit your taste buds. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable.
The complex also has a theater, which hosts amazing performances and shows. I was lucky enough to catch a show during my visit and it was truly spectacular. The sound and lighting were top-notch and the performers were incredibly talented.
Overall, Montecasino is a fantastic destination for anyone looking for a fun, exciting, and memorable experience. I would highly recommend it and give it a 5-star rating without hesitation.

I was here at Montecasino merely to meet and greet with our President that visited SA for BRICS Summit. From the outside is a nice and fancy place. Not sure how does it look inside the room an all other facilities as I was only outside and at the Reception inside area. I am sure its a great place as couple of Head of State was staying here.

It is so beautifully designed. It has that Italian / vintage/ Rome layout. There is a huge variety of different types of restaurants - Greek, Indian, Japanese, Italian and a lot more. They also have a food court with a variety of affordable well known food places. There is also a lot of entertainment with the casino, bowling, games, bumper cars and movies. There is also a beautiful open area which has a unique fountain that children are normally playing at.

Can be seen as a little deceptive from the outside. Great place to catch a bite to eat with a huge variety of options as well as the chance to catch a show. The prices on shows are very reasonable, especially if you think what they charge overseas for similar performances.

Lots of restaurants and theaters. Fun place to visit, but we missed the legendary sky painted roof? It was very dark inside the casino and very busy. Avoid peak hours if you get anxious in crowds! I would not say child friendly (little kids approximately 1 to 7 years). There are very few family-friendly restaurants with play areas (I know there is a Spur but do not know how the playarea is).

Liliesleaf is a museum in Johannesburg that tells the story of South Africa's liberation movement. The museum has exhibits which provide background information on the struggle for freedom, as well as interactive features which allow visitors to explore the history of apartheid and the events that led up to its downfall.
They have preserved the homestead and outbuildings well. The kids enjoyed the interactive information stations and it was nice to give them visuals and context. It was very quiet and hopefully more people will support Liliesleaf by visiting.

Liliesleaf is currently undergoing renovation. It was not officially open when I visited on September 14, 2023 but an employee offered to guide me through many of the displays. It was well worth it but I was very fortunate to be given this opportunity. Definitely call before visiting to see if it's open.

The Hector Pieterson Memorial and museum is located in Soweto, just two blocks from the spot where 12-year-old Hector was shot on the 16 June 1976 during the student uprising. The museum provides a stark look at life in South Africa during the days of apartheid through exhibits about the history of Soweto and the role of its people in the independence struggle.
Thou a great source of painful memories for black South Africans, it is a truly magnificent monument of historic truth and a display of courage for those who fought for black people to have equal right with white people. Even willing to rist their lives for us.
The tour guide was truly informative and it was awe inspiring to stand were courageous young men and women matched for the future to be brighter we will forever be grateful. Must see.

There are also volunteering sight guides who will help you navigate the memorial outside the museum.

The museum is really good 👍 I spend almost an hour just taking it all in my own time.
You can have a guided tour if you want. I didn't feel the need.

It's quite dull. One has to read to understand the whole message. It would be good if they have guides to quicken the process especially for tourists. The reading is ideal for students not tourists.

I know The Memorial is very very important. I feel sad , because children were killed for no reason. I got depressed. I already knew history, but felt angry again. Memorial is very well organized. No one can turn away from the violence that happened; no one should. Main story is out of the building.
When you visit please do not think it is a museum; whole area is the idea. Try to understand what happened.

No pictures are allowed to be taken inside the museum.

The apartheid museum is a museum in Johannesburg, South Africa that celebrates the end of white-minority rule in South Africa through its informative displays on the history of apartheid. The museum allows visitors to experience segregation based on race by separating them into different groups according to their features, including skin color, size of nose, kinks in hair and language used. This highly recommended museum also highlights the progress made by South Africa since the end of apartheid with its various exhibits.
A must in Joburg. Only open Thursday to Sunday and bank holidays, we were lucky to be there on Easter Monday.
You have to see this museum to help you understand/recollect/refresh your memory of this insane period in time. I was sickened. I left the museum twice to get air. I left the visit with dark clouds over my head, so I suppose that can give you an idea of just how good this museum actually is. Photos inside the museum are forbidden, but my link with accessibility forced me to take one photo ... "For every person that died, three people were left with a disability..."
This just added to my dark clouds.

Very, very interesting and eye opening experience for us at the Apartheid Museum. We went there as part of a private tour and only allotted two hours. So, unfortunately we only made it until 1970 before having to depart. We recommend four hours to see everything included.
We were a group of two visiting on a weekday so there was no lines, not very busy and no need to buy tickets in advance.
We really enjoyed our time here and would recommend visiting when you travel to Johannesburg.

One of THE BEST museums you’ll find. So wrong experience. Very moving. Extremely well done. Even if you o may have ½ an hour, it’s so worth the 150 Rand per person. You could spend hours and hours there but it’s worth even a short and speedy trip. Just deploy your speed-reading skills - you’ll need it.

We absolutely loved our experience. We arrived early and took our time. Although I'd recommend it for older kids. My 16 year old wanted to spend all morning here, however my 14 and 10year old soon became hungry and tired. The museum is brilliantly set up with up-to-date information. Not much in way of food but conveniently located near the casino which had restaurants as well fast food places nearby..100%recommended as a day out in JHB.

Must go to the Apartheid Museum! A wealth of history, so powerful and well presented. Tour guide is recommended. There are a few details you might miss otherwise. And the museum is very large, so the guide helps you move along a bit quicker without missing anything.

This is one of the best organised and thoughtfully designed historical museums I've visited in a while. When you enter the museum, you are immediately challenged to empathise with people who lived under Apartheid rule.
It compares favourably to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. Although we had two hours, we could easily have used another hour. If you read English, you do not need a guide.
NOTE: no photos can be taken once you enter.

The museum overall was an okay experience, I've seen better and have been treated better. The staff in the Cafe on the other hand were another story. Disgusting, rude and malicious! The specific person has been identified in the photos attached. I explained to her that I disliked the sauce they put on my burger and she got IRRATE IMMEDIATELY! She slammed the food carton top down on my hands while I was showing her what I was speaking about and then snatched the carton from me. These photos are the aftermath, she thinks it's funny and smirks about her childish behavior. Just UGLY...

Museum is very well done and artistic too. Great transition though history in South Africa. I did this on a day Joburg tour, 2 hours is sufficient to see everything and read. Goes well with visiting Soweto too, the township that is a key example of segregation, separation laws, and racism. Temporary exhibits on Mandela and Tutu are wonderful right now. No pictures to be taken inside. Right next to Gold Reef in case you also want to visit a casino and amusement park. Note, it is open 5 days a week now, so check the schedule.

If you're in the area, this should be a place to take in some historical truths. When walking through, not only can you recount the historical context of Apartheid, but one should be able to see its affects on natives of SA then and even now. Only then are we able to understand how truly devastating the systems of Apartheid IS. It's rather insightful and warrants actionable atonement. This is not meant for just another walk through another museum.

This museum is going to stir up something deep inside you. You are given either a ‘White’ or ‘Non-white’ card at the entrance which follow separate paths in the first section giving you a very clear insight into how life for South Africans have shaped up over the years.

As a grown man. I cried. The practice was so despicable that if you have only a degree of humanity, you will cry. I learned that apartheid was so inhuman that I couldn't understand how the world allowed it to go on for so long. The experience is something that is now fully on my soul. How the South African blacks and colored tolerated it for so long is still a mystery to me. If you come to South Africa, you must go right away so you can enjoy the rest of your trip.

The Gold Reef City Theme Park is an amusement park located in Johannesburg, South Africa. It has rides and attractions for all ages and contains some of the most thrilling theme park rides in the country. The amusement park is famous for its Crown Mines tour, which takes you down an abandoned shaft from where gold was mined centuries ago.
Amazing place to visit but I have to say plan in advance for this place, step one arrive very early to catch almost all the busy rides, like Anacondas, the trains and so on, 30min after the place open expect to wait about 30 to 1:30min for a single ride that last a minute. Be prepared to walk a lot, like a lot of walking is required there. The 4D experience was amazing just that they have one movie you can not make a choice, I love the fact that you bring your own food and you can buy food in there too. Online purchase is recommended when you arrive, so if you already know you are going buy ticket online. The part I don’t get is both adult and kids pay R250 even though there are rides the kids can not have access to. I have to say overall it’s ideal place to visit. I enjoyed myself after.

Without a doubt a fantastic place to come. I don't know anywhere else in Africa to go for a theme park that comes close to this. I do suspect the staff of keep rides closed for a while for people not to have continuous rides. If you can come on a slow day it is very enjoyable. Especially if enjoy getting a rush from the free falling feeling. There are rides for the whole family and restaurants all over. Even carnival games some of which are very unlikely to win anything. Some are easy wins

Cleverly out together, this disused open shaft mine cum now theme park caters well for children and those who are children at heart for all things playful. It's definitely not for the faint hearted and most of the rides are for the taller (above 1.5m I think) kids. There is also a kids section for the toddlers and infants.

I took my niece on Friday, 8 April 2022, her first time. It was enjoyable. It wasn't too busy. We paid R250 pp, that was a bit steep to be honest. She's 9yrs old, that was a bit much. We had tons of fun and made use of most of the rides. The lady at the ticketing place selling tickets for the Gold pour and the mine tour is a rude and miserable individual, certainly not the kind to be at a theme park and dealing with patrons. The gentleman at the Gold pour exhibition directed us to her to purchase our tickets. He was the most polite, friendliest people, along with the lady who did our tour of the mine. Those two deserve an accolade, they made our experience exceptional.

My family and I were booked in at the theme park hotel. Staff were friendly. The hotel room was fine. As for the swimming pool water, well that was green so my husband and kids could not swim in it.
My kids were thrilled to go on rides, watch 4D videos etc. However the queues are ridiculously long. Sadly there is no exception for those staying inside the theme park. It would be nice if they could give hotel residents access to the rides an hour before opening to the public.
There should be a limitation on the amount of people allowed access daily into the theme park so that everyone gets to make use of the rides instead of standing tirelessly (during a heatwave) in queues to get on.
People are allowed in from around 9am/9:30am but the gates to the rides aren't open so you have to start queuing already which I find really annoying. To top it off they close the gates to rides from around 4pm when the theme park closes @ 5pm. I do understand that this is within the peak season however I seriously hope management does something about this.

I have very fond memories of coming here in my childhood, so I was rather excited to visit as an adult ( I'm still short, but tall enough for the rides now). Besides the historical attractions for which is famed, recent upgrades and additions have been made turning out into a proper theme park. We went on a weekday to avoid the crowd, it was still pretty busy with a few school day trips taking place and bus loads of tourists. The rides provide enormous fun for ppl of all ages. You are well catered for regarding food, as there are kiosks and restaurants dotted about. For those with no interest in the park, there is also a hotel and casino.
Seanan Wai — Google review
You have to buy your tickets online, which, for me, makes things more convenient. There are the friendliest guys on stilts, painted gold, wearing mining type outfits, helping and directing people to where they must go, the line at the kiosk to get the tickets wasn't long and the staff are very friendly and efficient so it moves quickly. I got in free because it was my birthday and you get a separate line for that ticket which also moved fast.... had the best day, great food available all over, the lines for the adult rides were a bit insane but I didn't go for that, walked around, explored the "city" the fun train was cool with the tunnel that turns, kinda makes it feel like the train is tipping, my son (6) had a blast on the kids rides and before we knew it the day was over.... I guess time does fly when you're having fun!
Leigh-Anne Frame — Google review
We had an absolute blast!!
The Online Ticket booking is convenient and fast and definitely helps the queues at the entrance going very fast and efficient.
The only downside of our visit was definitely the extremely long lines at the rides, we had to wait 40 minutes to an hour for the rides but I do take in consideration that it was the first day of the school holidays. It was very crowded. It's also very frustrating when the boards cleary states "no place keeping" and crowds of people move past you to their friends infront of you making you wait even longer. I do suggest that the staff be more strict about this.
Other than that, all the rides worked!
The staff from the gates to the operators at the rides were very friendly.
The bathrooms are very clean which is very impressive if you take in account the amount of people there during the day so big thumbs up on that!
Huge variety of restaurants and places to buy cool drinks and snacks during the day.
It's a nice outing for friends and for the whole family with the rides and games for the kids as well.
Overall nice experience!

We had the absolute best time spending the day here. Remember to buy the tickets online and get there early and even when you do this, you will have to queue for wristbands to enter the theme park. I suggest doing the most popular rides early to avoid crazy long queues. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of rides available. Lots of places to eat. Clean bathrooms. Even though the tickets are pricey, it is value for money. My kids had a blast and I felt young again.

I would not recommend visiting the park during the holidays because there are far too many people, especially during the December holidays, and you end up standing in line for hours and only being able to ride a few of the rides! Try to go on a Thursday or Friday when it is a little quieter. Then you can truly enjoy the exciting rides!
Remember to book online and to wear comfortable shoes.

Had a lot of fun at the Theme Park. Did the guided tour into the mine shaft which was very educational.
Went on a few rides, was there on a Sunday so the queues were not too long.
Best part was the anaconda, really nice roller-coaster but was over to quick :)

Amazing, thrilling, the best experience I've ever had thus far at a theme park. There is a ride for everyone. It is such a big beautiful place. Toilets are clean, their staff is friendly, they are all well trained and informative. I'd definitely go back, there is so much to explore.

Enjoyable games for the whole family. Lazy rides as well as heart stopping ones for thrill seekers. Kids games for all ages also. Safe for those with fears, staff all over. Restaurants and stalls for all kinds of meals or toys😏 Plus some happy hour in some restaurants and with tasty cocktails😜

I had a great time here one Saturday afternoon. I really suggest coming here as early as possible because waiting times to get on rides can be as long as one hour on a bad day. Still a fun thing to do with friends or family.

Had so much fun! Went for a helicopter ride, then to the amusement park. We had no idea that tickets were not sold on the premises and had to buy tickets online. There are more than enough food options and souvenir shops. Definitely buy tickets in advance.

I was 5 years last at Golden reef city theme park that time I fined it to be overpriced. But I was in press that there prices was affordable and you pay ones for all rides. Restaurants was also affordable. Rides are well maintained. I really enjoyed the whole day. Staff are friendly and helpful.

SUPER FUN! There are dozens of rides. You do wait in long lines but they move quickly as the ride fills up. There is a science park which I really enjoyed. There are museums and ancient buildings. There is so much to explore and it is impossible to go through everything in one day. I loved it and I will be back to see the rest. The rides are crazy. With huge variety. They also have snakes in confinement before you ride the Anaconda. Everything in this place is awesome. Clean. Well maintained. There are afew food stalls with seating available. Beautiful ponds with ducks.
I just love this place. I highly recommend you go here.

Great day of fun! Rides for all tastes and preferences in a very cool setting, where the Joburg history comes to life. Well worth a visit. Waiting time for the rides could be improved a little, if the turnaround between rides is improved/more carts are added back to service.

Had a fantastic, thrilling experience today. The rides make your heart beat faster. If you're a thrill and adrenaline seeker, then Gold Reef City Theme Park is the place to be

Decided to have an adults day out at the theme park. I haven't been for over 10 years, and I was pleasantly surprised by how the park still runs. The park is incredibly clean (including the toilets), the rides are fun, there are so many places to eat. The entry fee is a bit steep, but if you intend on going on all the rides then it's worth it. The food places are average priced.
The only issue was the wait for the rides and for food, but we also visited on a public holiday so it was understandably busy.
All in all it was a great day out. Kids love it, but expect to fork out a lot of money for the day, so budget and save wisely beforehand.
Siara Moodley — Google review
1. Go in the morning! Or else you only do 2 rides and queing the whole day.
If you want to enjoy the rides, do not go on a public holiday or month end... go on a random day during the week.
2. Don't carry a handbag. Be free and ready to have fun.
3. They sell food.

Fun for Everyone at Gold Reef City!
This was my first time visiting Gold Reef City as a dad with my kids. It was a fantastic experience for everyone! The rides in the kid's area were clean, well-maintained, and perfect for little ones. The kids had a blast.
Another big plus is the new online ticketing system. It's convenient and saves time waiting in line. However, I did notice a potential issue with redeeming tickets if someone in your group can't make it. To avoid this hassle, I recommend planning carefully and buying tickets for the exact number of people attending. If you're unsure, consider getting smaller group tickets. That way, if someone has to miss out, you can redeem the ticket on another visit.
In short, Gold Reef City is a great place for a family day out. The rides, cleanliness, and online ticketing system all impressed me. Just be mindful of the ticket redemption policy when planning your trip.
Oh, and no food or drinks can be “imported”.

Had a great time!
We went through on the Friday and slept over in the theme park hotel and then spent the Saturday as well. We went after the peak season so it was nice and quiet with no waiting lines which was nice for the children. All the staff that we spoke to were very friendly and accommodating. The place was so clean and well looked after.
When sleeping over you get access to the park. I would suggest price wise to rather spend a night there and get access to the park for 2 days.
Would definitely visit again.

Emperors Palace Johannesburg is a luxurious 5 star casino resort that offers a range of room and suite options, including spacious family rooms with rich luxe decor and modern conveniences. The spa Octavias Sensorium offers parents the opportunity to pamper themselves while their children are looked after.
If you're looking for a one-stop-shop for all your entertainment needs, look no further than this amazing casino! From the moment you step inside, you'll be transported to a world of excitement and fun. With a huge selection of slot machines, table games, and poker rooms, there's something for everyone here.
But that's not all! This casino truly goes above and beyond when it comes to entertainment. From live music and comedy shows to theatrical performances, there's always something going on to keep you entertained. And if you're feeling lucky, why not try your hand at one of the many competitions they host?
And let's not forget about the food. With a wide range of restaurants, cafes, and bars on offer, you'll never go hungry here. From upscale dining to casual eateries, there's something to suit every palate and budget. And with a fully stocked bar, you can enjoy a drink or two while you play the night away.
Overall, I cannot recommend this casino enough. With its impressive selection of games, top-notch entertainment, and fantastic dining options, it truly has something for everyone. Whether you're a seasoned gambler or just looking for a fun night out, you won't be disappointed!

Very beautiful! A nice variant of restaurants inside like Greek, Asian, Indian, African and so on. So there's something for everyone. The casino itself looks very clean and nice. Sadly we didn't get to play. We wanted a day card to play since we only stopped by. The machine told us to get them at the cashier but after asking we could only sign up but not get a day card to play. Was a bit sad but once you're signed up I think it will be a lot of fun there. Just wasn't worth it for us for the short visit.

Meh, it's okay. Cinema hasn't got anything exciting. Of all the restaurants I'd only recommend Lily Asian, the salmon sushi was the best I've ever had. There's nothing really to do here. Even the magic company doesn't offer much, and the machines are giving in.

We to a late Saturday comedy show and had a buffet meal before. Both show and food were good and value for money. Busy atmosphere, but pity about the young kids hanging around the casino while their parents gambled.

Always busy and a mission to enter and find parking. You rather make a reservation if you want to go to one of the restaurants for dinner or go early enough if you are a walk in.
Cinema is good. Tried the 4dx. It was clean and a good experience. Not too much of walking is done. But the place does offer more than just a Casino environment.

I took my family here to eat on our last night in South Africa. We ate at Spurs, a restaurant I ate at frequently and loved as a child. It didn't disappoint.
The staff were fantastic and the menu had something for everyone. My daughter and I are vegetarian so fully expected to only have salad. However there was a whole vegan menu to choose from. The steaks and ribs where a complete hit with the neat eaters and just as I remember them, huge!
A great place to wonder round and loads of places to choose to eat too.

Went to watch a live show at the theatre. We sat in row F, but all rows is facing at an adequate angle towards the stage. Will recommend seats 17 -20 in each row as it has a bit more leg space. They allow food and drinks in except popcorn and hot bevarages. Friendly service at the door. Have plenty to do while you wait for the show or thereafter. No problem with parking.

I have five star because it feels with lots of activities to enjoy, from the delicious meals that is served at various restaurants there to the friendly services of the staffs. It has a very big casino space, the kids have all the fun activities at the game side, adults are not left behind.
The cinema gives you interesting options to enjoy your movies as VIPs, musicals are also available. Great picture locations it has beautiful water fountains, conference centres
Be warned that it is usually parked full during festive seasons, you might then have to wait in line for tables to eat or to enter some places.

This facility is up to date and quality. The moment you enter you feel as if you are in a completely brand new world and all your worries disappear. This facility is a great place to distress and take a moment to spoil yourself. The only issue I have encountered was that one of the elevators weren't working and within that same are the lights were highly dim.

The hotel was amazing. The casino was awful. Rude attendants everywhere, I've never felt so put off by service in a casino anywhere.
If you are coming for the hotel, a conference, or any of the amazing restaurants, it's a great experience. If there is any human interaction needed between you and casino workers, rather give another place a go.

Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World is an exciting resort located in a circus-themed complex. It boasts a range of dining options, event venues, gaming facilities and spa services. The establishment follows strict COVID-19 protocols to ensure the safety of its visitors. However, it charges R10 per person on weekends which may be unexpected for those on a tight budget or travelling with a large group.
This year I went to Carnival City twice. I must say that environment at the restuarants, particularly the Spur was conducive and accommodating to the type of informal - yet critical - business engagement I needed to have at very short notice. The staff were excellent. The management understood my needs and delivered per excellence! I shall return 👌🏽

Good COVID 19 protocol followed. R10 per person entrance on weekends is relatively new and can throw people off especially if you're on a budget with 5 plus people in your car. Overall, it is clean, great service from different shops and the outside area with the rides is well controlled and relatively safe. Definitely worth going for play dates.

Really nice place and design but over crowded with people. You can barely walk outside the casino, there's just too much going on. Wonderful place for individuals and families gathering for a variety of activities of enjoyment. Wonderful management team, workforce as well as security personnel. The place is always running despite the challenges posed by persistent load shedding. The addition of an Ice Ring on top of a variety of restaurants, kids indoor and outdoor play center, the Cinema as well as live musical events makes the place an ideal place to choose whilst in the East Rand. Carnival City Casino is a true definition of Ekhurhuleni (A place of calmness and peace).

Such a gem and great value for money. Innocent was very friendly and helpful and went the extra mile to help us secure a room upgrade. Rooms are surprisingly big, especially coming to Carnival City straight after the Cabanas at Sun City. Just wish the smoking policy would be better enforced as smokers don't seem to realize it's a public space around the pool

Great time as always at Carnival, the only sad part is all the beautiful water features are gone, most noticeably at the front entrance. The bowling and arcade games are much better with the renovations done but sadly it feels as if it's missing something, especially by the casino side.

The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is a 11595 hectare reserve located in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The reserve has three different hiking trails, and is home to a variety of wildlife including monkeys, zebras, buffalo and antelope. The entrance fee plus car fee payable at the gate via card makes it accessible to all, and there are wheelchair-friendly paths.
Absolutely amazing. Great value for money. Safe and secure. Entrance fee plus car fee payable at gate via card. 3 Different Hike options/trails. Beautiful scenery. Good for kids and beginners. After Hike we took a spectacular 66km drive in the nature reserve and saw troops of monkeys, zebras, buffalo and antelope. I recommend snacks for the car as it is a full/half day experience. There was wheelchair friendly paths however I did not review them. I was stunned to find such a hidden gem!

Excellent hiking trail and well-marked. I took the 17KM trail. I found it moderate, but some may find it hard, especially the climbs. Peaceful hike with great views. Some stretches were overgrown due to the rain, but overall the trail is well-maintained and I felt safe. I saw a jackal, which was nice. I'm definitely going back soon.

Intermediate hike, and I say that because it’s a bit rocky and steep for most of the hike so you get tired easily.
We saw a baboon on our hike and a lot of little insects.
The markings are there but not very clear and the map they provide is not really the greatest either.
We went March 2024 and they DON’T accept cash, card payment only. Entrance fee was R45pp AND R35 per car.
Come with a sun hat as the routes aren’t shaded for the most part.

I went for a hike here with some friends. The entrance fee was atound 50 per person and around 30 for vehicle access. We could not use cash when we visited. There
wildlife to be seen and there is not much here besides the hikes and a self drive around. However, it seems excellent for cycling, and there were quite a few cyclists. It is very safe. The park is beautiful, and the hiking trail is excellent. There is almost no litter at all. The hike is a good deal harder than hennops and cradlemoon, so be warned. iMy watch tells me it was an 1800m elevation ii over 11.7 km. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes hiking. FYI, there is no implacable implacable implacable iiiiiito one one 6666⁶66666or drinks here. I imagine it could get very hot here. Beautiful, large nature reserve with day and overnight hikes and a 55 km cycling/driving route to explore the valleys and pleateau.
The highest point in Gauteng is situated in the reserve.
Sadly many of the previous facilities such as an info centre, the alternative entrance gate and picnic sites are poorly maintained and an eyesore. Make sure to take everything you need to enjoy a day out.

The 10 km or above 10 km hike routes are no joke. Not for the faint hearted. You have to be very fit to do them or you will take verrrrry long. Extra hot sunny days makes it more tough.

The 10 kilometres trail is challenging with about 400-450m elevation gain. It’s marked, but I felt like some spots also needed markings in between. There’s no shops so you have to bring your own snacks and drinks. There’s braai area available to use so you can have a nice picnic with family afterwards. They don’t sell anything so bring everything you want to eat 👊🏽. There’s guards at the main entrance, then plenty of parking inside. Overall, I am gonna go back again, it’s good.

Great hiking experience at Suikerbosrand thanks to Mr. Buthelezi who went out of his way to help us. The hike itself was beautiful, with amazing views over the Suikerbosrand valley and stunning wildlife. We hiked an overnight trail and slept in the springbok hut. There is a roofed braai area with enough seating, outside tap, hut with 3 rooms and mattresses. Also a room outside with a toilet, basin and shower. They also have a service where they take your extra luggage to the hut if needed. I just wish they had more information online about the different huts and rules.
We booked in advanced and there was some miscommunication over where we are allowed to park our vehicles. We wanted to keep one vehicle at the hut since one lady was not hiking with us the first day, but only the second, since the first day hike was a bit tuff and she is diabetic. We areanged this in advance, but when we got there, they told us that it is not allowed to keep a vehicle at the hut. When we booked, we asked for a confirmation email or reference number, but they said they don't do email. However when we got there, Mr. Buthelezi asked us where our email correspondence was. A lot of miscommunication, but luckily when we arrived Mr. Buthelezi helped us sort it out. I will post some images of the springbokhut for those interested, since there is no images of the springbok hut online.

Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is the most peaceful place that I've ever visited. It is completely silent and you do not see signs of civilisation while you're hiking. So you feel like you're far away from Johannesburg, but the city is less than an hour away.
It's only 20 minutes away from The Glen Shopping Centre in Oakdene and about 25 minutes from Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve.
If you're hiking in summer bring lots of cold water, if you can freeze it it's even better. It's hot in Suikerbosrand.
The hills are layed out on a vast landscape, walking here feels like a meditation.

The biggest herd of Eland we have ever seen. Stunning now that it is getting greener. Great cycling practice for hubby (insane inclines - but he loves it). Loses one star just because there does not seem to be any maintenance happening. Entrance especially is full of weeds and not all that appealing looking... but don't be put off, it's a lovely spot in side.

Didn't know what to expect and cyclists, hikers, serious and less determined health fanatics, this is the place to go. Ample play area for kids too. There is also a museum.

What a wonderful, well-kept secret. I wish the failure of provincial government was not so stark though. The place is falling to pieces with zero maintenance and the litter on the trails, in the parking lot and picnic area was very disappointing.
However, in saying this, the hikes are challenging with a few to choose from.
Paradise for cyclists as there is plenty of space for them to ride in freedom and lower risk from motorists.
The staff at the main gate were friendly. We were given an information pamphlet at the gate. While fairly informative, the pamphlet was carelessly put together, with a page missing but another one duplicated. It took us (and several other guests) a few minutes to find out where the trails start as the signage is faded and very poor. Once you find your way all is well and the trails are more than adequately marked.
I do feel that it is worth the visit, I just wish that effort was put in by those who have been trusted to do so. You have failed and are allowing a gem to decay! A little effort can change everything.
Golden Gate National Park emerges as a breathtaking haven, offering a close encounter with nature in its most pristine form. Situated amidst the awe-inspiring vistas leading to Clarens, this tourist attraction boasts spectacular views that rival the beauty of any landscape painting.
What sets Golden Gate National Park apart is its proximity to the Amphitheater of the Drakensberg mountain, also known as the Maloti mountain in Sesotho. This infusion of African allure lends an unparalleled charm to the park, making it a truly unique destination for nature enthusiasts.
A highlight of the park is the Basotho Cultural Village, perched atop a hill overlooking a vast expanse of land. Here, one can witness the pure essence of nature, with early morning moments offering glimpses of various animals grazing in their natural habitat. From springbuck to deer, wilderbeast, and zebra, each sighting is a testament to the park's commitment to preserving its biodiversity.
In essence, Golden Gate National Park offers an immersive experience that allows visitors to forge a deep connection with the natural world. It's a place where African heritage and scenic beauty converge, offering a glimpse into the soul of the continent. For anyone seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of urban life and immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature, Golden Gate National Park is an absolute must-visit destination.

Please if you are in the area visit the Basotho Cultural village. The are more suited to accommodate big school or tourist groups but we couls see enough of what it was about.
We had some of there traditional cuisine tripe and dumplings (which was a bit different for our Capetonian tastebuds) which I could enjoy.
Lovely friendly staff.

Interesting history... from old traditional ways to modern traditional ways. Living museum...
Friendly and enthusiastic staff, from the receptionist to the tour guide and those depicting life lived in the past. So much to see and to learn. The scenic route to get to the place is breathtaking ..
It is unfortunate that the upkeep is not a priority with the government.

The venue is closed indefenditly for upgrades by government so that forever. That a pity for the views are breathtaking

It's inside the golden gate national park. But not worthy at all. There's not much maintenance at this place. Also it was smelling a lot. We just came out immediately after going inside for 5 min. I've heard a lot about this place from other friends who visited 5 years ago, it's nothing like what they said.

Beautiful place to experience the Basotho culture from the 1800 to currently. You get to interact with the culture at first glance and hand. Our tour guide was so welcoming and helpful he made our experience worth while. You get to test food and drinks the Basotho people eat. This place in the Golden Gate National Park a spectacular site with Beautiful views leading to Clarens. This tourist attraction is close to the Amphitheater of the Drakensburg mountain known as the Maloti mountain in Sesotho.

The Basotho Cultural Village is situated in the majestic Golden Gate Highlands National Park.
The staff were warm and welcoming. The guides were busy, but they kindly arranged for another staff member, Steve, to be our guide.
Steve was informative and gave us a comprehensive tour which included a history of the Basotho people. The inhabitants of the village were friendly and gave the tour an authentic feel.
We witnessed the chief arbitrating a court case. We had a consultation with the village healer and taste-tested traditional food and drink. We also learned some Basotho etiquette and basic greeting phrases. We could take pictures and videos of the experience.
The most memorable part of the visit was the musical piece rendered by a duo with accordion and traditional percussion instrument.
The property has hutted accommodation, a conference centre and a restaurant where we enjoyed the most divine scones with tea.
This was well worth the visit. Well done staff of Basotho Cultural Village!

A great open-air museum where the tribal life of the Basotho, the culture and also the architectural development from the 16th to the 20th century and the European influence become comprehensible. The tour, which lasts about 45 minutes, is almost an integral part, otherwise you won't understand much. The staff, who take on different roles such as chief, advisor, medicine man or musician, make the guide's stories come alive.
Recommendation!

It's a beautiful place, nice mountain view but the facility is not maintained good. The were no tissues in the bathroom, there were no lights outside at night and one driveway in and out. But still a beautiful place to see.

I learnt a lot about the History of Basotho people. What amazes me is that in their culture it's men first. And during the tour they observed that. And in the olden days, they raise children as a community. I loved the tour. You pay R60 entrance

There is also the kids zone for the kids the T bar throw is awesome kids had a blast. Also there is nice spots to snack

There are tons of adventure activities to choose from like: Bungee Bounce, Target Shooting and an Adventure play area. My daughter did the: King Swing, Cable Tour and Flying Trapeze. There is also Quad Tours, Paintball and Target Shooting.
There is also a nice little Restaurant where you can have a coffee and bite to eat. The food is tasty and the service is great.

What a wonderful place for kids & kids-at-heart! We stopped by as a corporate group and had a fantastic experience. We tried the bridge swinging, ziplining, bungee bouncing & target shooting. Comfort zones were left behind and we had a good hit of adrenaline - especially on the bridge swing! The bungee bounce was also a fun and unusual experience, jumping on a trampoline but attached to bungee cords - I even managed a back flip! So much fun and the staff were just excellent. It has a decent coffee shop too & a nice shady place to sit if you are not too keen on the activities or just need a break in-between. Highly recommend - it was a great way to break the ice and bond quickly!

The historical recollection of the battle is really impressive.
There is a self-guided trail leaflet which provides a brief explanation of events.
Only dirt roads lead directly to the site, making the trip bumpy, but possible in a normal car.

Haunting site of a hugely significant Boer War Battle. 7.5km sand road from the main road but manageable. Many of the stones on the memorial have had a recent paint job. It's looking good on "The Kop". Easy map to follow which you receive at the gate.
Murray Carter — Google review
Great battlesite, easy path to follow with the map from the gate. The map explains all the main aspects of the battle and gives good insight into the struggles of the British. Very well kept over the many years, lovely to be able to pay respect to those that have fallen. Remember to hold the torch up high.
Joshua Storbeck — Google review
R35 to enter cash only, dirt road more for SUV, 4x4, bakkies or cars with higher ground clearance. Not to say a normal car will not get you there, just slower. Forth the trip up and worth the walk around the battlefield.
Neels Venter — Google review
So much history in one place. This beautiful location was the stage for one of the bloodiest, and ultimately fruitless, encounters between the British and the Boers during the 1900's. The views from the top are stunning, and the monuments tell the story of a battle that was ferocious, bewildering and so tragically pointless. For history buffs and normal travellers alike, a trip up to Spionkop Battelfield is one you will never forget.
Nick Robinson — Google review
The site is well laid out and extremely interesting BUT there was not a single sign pointing there from the main roads so we spent three hours driving around on shocking dirt roads. Even our GPS sent us to two wrong sites before we eventually found it. When I queried it at the gate the attendant just sighed and agreed that Yes there were no signs.
For one of the Boer war major sites I found this very sad.
Vivienne Holtzhausen — Google review
A very interesting visit. The trench the Brits dug was only 40cm deep, and when the mist lifted they lay exposed to the Boers. How important is communication. When General Woodgate succumbed to his wounds, they lost direction and in the end lost the battle. The site is a little overgrown, may be due to the good rains this season.

We stayed at Cheetah Ridge and the experience was very personalised. The staff make you feel special and very well taken care of. Nambiti is one of the best wildlife experiences in Africa. We ended seeing the Big 5. Our game ranger/guide, Lesley Harris, was very knowledgeable and patient. He became a mentor to my 8 year old son whom he made a lot of time for and answer all his questions.
Each staff member at Cheetah Ridge added their own personal touch to make us feel welcome and it was great. Clarens at the bar made excellent coffee and drinks and was a pleasure to chat with; the ladies waiting on our table were always willing to accommodate every request; and the management staff that were always there to welcome us at the door.

Spent 2nights at Nambiti Plains lodge for a much needed break. The lodge was excellent. Great accommodation and service. Made to feel at home by all staff. Even had a visit by thd local elephant at the pool. The reserve is unfortunately too small for the number of lodges (and therefore the number of game viewing vehicles). Go during the week when it is quieter ( and while only South Africans can visit)

Lots of history, text and loads more actual items and relics from the Boer and Anglo wars. however, old run down museum. takes about 1 hour to walk through and skimming bits of text of history without reading everything.
What an amazing place to go camping. The ablution facilities were absolutely spotless, the views magnificent, the water in the dam, super clean and the animals were a sight to behold. I'd recommend anyone to go camping here. If it's peace and tranquility you're looking for, then this is the perfect place to escape to. It's inexpensive to set up camp and stay a few nights. It's worth every cent, getting out of the city and far from the madding crowds.

Short visit on 27 January 2022 to see the dam at full capacity and hopefully enjoy a view of the dam wall while overflowing.
Sadly there did not seem to be access to the dam wall from the road as gates were locked.
Visited the Spionkop Nature Reserve, with the hopes to gain access to a closer view of the dam wall but after speaking to staff at the gate, it sadly did not sound as if there were any hiking trails to view the Dam wall in all its glory.
Nature Reserve is open daily from 6am to 7pm, and they allow day-visitors and campers.

In Bethlehem at Truida Kestell Primary and esp. at Treverton Prep in Mooi River. I attended the senior choir and the marimba group of Treverton Prep in 2012/3 to their outings, practices/exercises at Drakensberg Boys School. I enjoyed every single moment. And today at home I still listen to my several cds of the choir.

Fantastic experience. The staff an pupils go to a lot of trouble to make it all worthwhile. I had always heard about or heard them but what a treat to be there for a live performance. The venues acoustics are first class and one feels welcome in the environment. The program did not have many traditional classical music which I would like to have heard. Never the less the African feel to the other pieces of music with the actions was exciting.

Wow. A little drive to get here but we so enjoyed a day out hiking in this reserve. There are three options for hikes. We chose the waterfall. It was a very easy hike and took us 30 minutes to get there. Little elevation and easily attainable for kids. Loved swimming in the river and the views are utterly breathtaking. It costs R45 per person to hike. Take water and a costume.

Did a day trip from Durbs and got there within 2.5hrs. We did the waterfall hike - 4kms round trip, with my 60+ mum and 7 yo nephew. So it’s quite manageable for folk of all ages. The drive into kamberg is testing … the road outside Nottingham is littered with potholes. Then there’s the 18km gravel road in which can take up to 30mins. We did it in a front wheel drive sedan but would recommend a vehicle with higher clearance and all wheel drive; see pic with the water-logged areas which can trap a vehicle. The hike itself was stunning especially the waterfall and pools. The path was recently cleared which makes for easy walking.
We spotted a rinkhals on the way. The manager of the lodge was such a lovely lady. We’ll be back.

A beautiful and scenic area but in need of maintenance. The picnic sites were overgrown and most of the jetty bridges were not usable. Rock art centre was closed and no one was at the reception/office. The Mooi river walking trail was horribly overgrown to the extent it was not usable. We were happy to see that there are many Vultures around this area, including Bearded Vultures.

Such a cozy little spot in the Midlands! Did the chocolate dipping with my boyfriend and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they use QUALITY chocolate. You get to choose between white and milk chocolate for your dipping then they bring out a bunch of items you can choose to dip! Prices are calculated by weight so you can really go wild. If you have any left over chocolate you can also have it moulded. They have a bunch of other hand crafted chocolates that you can buy (also have some cute things for gifts) I didnt try the chocolate shot thing but will definitely come again to do it! Highly recommend for all ages.

A sweet little place to stop and enjoy delicious chocolate dipping and also decadent Chocolates to take home. Staff were super friendly and helpful. There's also lovely hot choc or coffees available.
Our kids loved choosing their fruit, snacks and sweets to dip with and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Best part was that while we were snacking, it began to snow which made our day even more magical.

Some decadence for a cold day. Spoil yourself at @chocolateheaven_za. So many interesting creations. The dipping experience is really interesting and we even got to taste chocolate-dipped biltong. Take home the Dunkers which we loved 😍 ❤

Lovely selection of chocolates with unique flavors and friendly service.
Also a sugar free range. A nice stop when in the midlands.

This chocolate heaven at the Junction is lovely little place with extremely friendly staff. It's very quiet and they adhere to covid protocols. If you love Belgium chocolate...this is a place for you
This little brewery and pub is a must visit when in the midlands. The beer is exceptional. The deck has some comfy chairs and lovely trees to sit under.
Service is good, and the gift shop has some nice merchandise on offer.

Craft beer is OK, not great though. Slightly overpriced.
Staff was a little too cocky for my taste. Many beers not in stock to buy in bottles which is funny as they are brewing it themselves.
The location is amazing though.

A great little stop! We enjoyed their beer tasting and the beautiful scenery as you sit on the deck outside. They also have a shop where they sell beer to take home as well as their merchandise. Would recommend coming here

Our waiter didn't know anything. I wish owners would train their staff better. Only when we left we saw other people did gin- and beer tastings. Was very disappointed that we missed out. Menu is written on big boards, but it was hidden away at another table. Never saw that there were starters and desserts until we left and explored more. Nice setting under trees.

Visited the pub as we were passing through. Hubby and daughter enjoyed the beers (2 different options). I was driving so opted for water. Loved the atmosphere with the indoor fires as it was very cold. The bartender kept us up to date with history of the area and the current events in the area if we were to be staying over.
Great place.

Nice craft beer. Lovely garden setup. Not all beers are available for selection. Beer is also quite Pricey though, more expensive than international beers and unjustifiably so in my opinion, their beer isn’t anything unique or fantastic. Also bought 1 litre premixed gins to take home, the bottles both suffered (without cause) failure of a similar defect on the bottoms of the containers which in essence caused it to be a wasteful purchase as the product had been spilled out.

First time visiting here.. we opted to do the Gin tasting. We tasted 4 different Gins. Gin and Ginger. (Winner for me) Gin and Grapefruit , Gin and Litchi and finally Gin and Blueberry. They also offer Beer tasting and a Gin course, where you mix your own bottle of Gin. I can't wait to be back to do some more tasting with friends.

This is an absolutely beautiful place.
Super relaxed atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.
There were 2 lakes with ducks.
The sun was out and the birds were singing, they have beer on tap and gin which I found quite wonderful.
Drinks are beautifully presented and garnished and taste out of this world.
They have a variety of locally brewed beers which is fantastic as well as gin, there are also bottles of this you can buy. Food is also available.
The outdoor seating creates such a vibrant and relaxing atmosphere.
I'd definitely recommend this place for beer and gin lovers.

This Brewery has to be on your bucket list when visiting the Midlands.
Such a gorgeous setting and the pub is so unique.
Do a beer and gin tasting and then decide what you want to get because they do have so many options.
I had the gin and ginger and the blueberry gin and they were both delightful.
Service was friendly and professional.
Atmosphere is relaxed.
There is a merch shop selling craft beer and clothing / keepsakes.
Would highly recommend.

We had a good experience doing beer tasting. The beer menu explaining all of the different type of beers was really funny and intelligent and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately when we visited the bar they didn't have coffee or the beer that we wanted because they were waiting for delivery, which is understandable. Overall this is a really beautiful area.

Nestled in the shady grounds of the elegant Rawdons Hotel in the heart of the Midlands Meander, you’ll find a thriving independent brewery which has long been delighting locals and visitors with a range of naturally brewed ales and lagers.
Unfortunately it was a quick stop for a Pie-Eyed Possum Pilsner (crisp, dry pilsner highlighted by the noble saag hops) but this great venue never disappoints. A quint and comfortable setting on hotel grounds are absolutely serene. The pub has an authentic English pub feel & the taproom deck in the afternoon sunshine is very relaxing.
Will definitely be back to tuck into the various beers.

This is a must see and visit location for the old world charm of a brewery/pub with a cosy fire roaring in the background as you indulge in a craft beer or gin. Alan our bartender was amazing. Take a drive down to the lake on the property, you will thank me later.

Terbodore Coffee Roasters is a coffee shop located in Curry's Post, Howick. It is decorated with beautiful animals, has great food and service, and sells coffee beans and other products. It is a great place to visit if you are looking for a unique experience.
Love Terbodore coffee, one of my ultimate favorite coffees, I will even drive from Durban just to come and enjoy a coffee and snack here in Howick. Great setting, indoor and outdoor seating, the cakes on offer is to die for, so delicious, just can't get enough. Do visit them on your next passing.

Home of the Great Danes. 🐶🐶🐶😀Mac stays here. A wonderful dog and an awesome place to taste the Terbodore range of coffees that are also roasted here.
As a recommendation of the baristas on site I had the Burundi as a flat white and it was delicious.
You can buy every single Terbodore roast here an take it home - though I think I saw it in Checkers and Super Spar for a better price (around 75 ZAR for a package.)
Anyways, it’s so worth coming here. The location is stunning, the smell of freshly roasted coffee, the cake and other treats are great. The staff is knowledgeable and super friendly.
Try to come on a weekday - it will be way less busy. Try to come in April/May and you see the Midlands “Indian Summer” with a beautiful array of colours as the trees start to change.
Safe parking on site.

My boyfriend and I first tasted Terbodore coffee when we made a spur-of-the-moment purchase from Mr Price Home at Mall of the South (JHB) and absolutely loved it. When we found out that Terbodore roastery was down the road from our holiday accommodation, we knew we had to make a turn there.
The venue, the food, the coffee, and the pooches were all wonderful!
I enjoyed a delicious spinach and feta quiche with my giant cappuccino and my boyfriend relished his beef burger.
We left with more than a few bags of coffee to enjoy at home but will need to make a plan sooner rather than later to replenish.

Lovely coffee shop with delicious food. The Dutch chocolate coffee is a favourite. The road to Terbador needs some work (lots of potholes), so drive carefully. But when you get there it is well worth it! The facilities are clean and well kept.

I have been here twice over the last 2 weeks. The food and coffee has been delicious, but the service has been very slow and not the best. Last weekend when I came it was very quiet, there were only about 3 tables or so. I ordered the chicken and bacon pasta from the specials board, and my wife got the vegan open sandwich. Both were very delicious. But service was very slow. This weekend we went ot was very full. I went with my wife and her family. The service was even slower and they got one of our food orders wrong. On top of that they messed up our bill quite badly.

A lovely relaxing atmosphere with great staff and lovely food. We could even take our little dog with. My only complaint would be their bathrooms, we have been there quite a few times and it's not very clean.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Terbodore coffee. From the serene drive there to the gorgeous Great Dane and labrador on the property, the experience was memorable. Food and dining was enjoyable and the quality of the ingredients came through.
The tin cup has gotta be one of my favorite coffees on the menu.
There are coffee bags to purchase as well as other merchandise. Well worth it to visit.

I never miss this place for a lekker take away coffee!
GREAT service! They are passionate about their coffees and you can taste that! There is also merchandise for sale.
Terbodore has a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. Great place for a family. You can drink coffee while the kids play on the jungle gym.

On a chilly winters morning we got to indulge in delicious rich pasta. It was incredible. The portions were generous. Thick fruit filled milkshakes and dirty Chai completed the dish. The vibe is soo relaxed with very helpful and informative staff who were able to guide us as to which blend to buy as we enjoyed our Chai soo much.
