If I could give this business zero stars I would.
I spent $530 on a two person tour back in August 2022. Underdog cancelled due to weather and which was of our control. I was informed I will be able to obtain a refund. 6 months later, I’ve emailed & called multiple times. No answer and have been ignored.. If I could go back in time I would never have booked with this company. If you do, you will run the risk of loosing $530. I cannot believe a company like this is happy to take your money, not deliver a service and continue to book tours with other people. BEWARE and RE CONSIDER!!!!!

If anyone wants a glimpse into how corrupt these folks are, listen to the 3ep series The Underdogs, from The Outside/In podcast, produced by New Hampshire public radio. You'll get an even better picture how they've earned all the negative reviews you'll find.
Truly terrible people.

DO NOT BOOK!! Do not book anything through these guys. They cancelled the day of. I am owed over $500. Won't pick up the phone or answer emails. Been over a year.

DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR!!! So disappointed. This is the 3rd time we have been to Queenstown and we have nothing but good things to say about all the many experiences we have had.
Our sled dog tour was cancelled and like so many we have not received our refund either. This has been promised in emails but now we get no response. Terrible service, we had another experience cancelled and they refunded us immediately. I fail to understand when payment is made in advance why refunds take 5 to 10 days and then not at all.

Our winter tour was cancelled by UnderDog Sled Dog tour. They agreed to refund me the money. According to their website cancellation policy, it takes 5-10 working days. However, after many text messages and phone calls, still no refund after a month. They even don’t feel any apology for their action. This shows how careless they are to their customers.

Like others our tour was rescheduled and then cancelled. A month later and still no refund... It's a considerable amount of money. Have tried to contact via email, phone and text to no avail. Please get in touch UnderDog Sled Tours.
Update - We're now 2 months and counting waiting for our refund. There have been many excuses and many assurances of payment, but now texts are being ignored completely. DON'T book with these guys, they'll take your money and run.

SCAMMERS AND THEIVES: Do not book anything through these guys, if they happen to cancel your tour for some reason, which is perfectly acceptable. They will not refund your money. I have been promised a refund for 2 months now. I am owed over $500. Won't pick up the phone or answer emails.

** edit - over a YEAR later and still no refund, now ignoring all my communications. Awful awful awful.
Like others my tour was cancelled and I have spent 3 months trying to get my money back to no avail. Constant lies / excuses over emails about the bank ‘rejecting the payment’ ‘finance department thought they sent it’. Terrible form.
Jenayah Elliott — Google review
Like others my refund is well overdue. Booking was cancelled due to Covid and met the criteria for a refund supposedly to occur in 5-10 working days . I was advised it had been “passed on to the accounts department”. Now 25 days overdue. Warning: DON’T pay in advance especially that they are taking bookings for 2023. I’m taking legal action now.

Tour was rescheduled by UnderDog and then cancelled the day of. Despite many emails still no refund. Don't bother
booking, they'll just keep your money. Poor form UnderDog.
This is a lovely shop specialising in merino wool. The Perriam family own nearby Bendigo station and grow fine (16 micron) merino which is made into elegant garments and soft as soft yarn. It's a delight to wander through this enchanting store.

Casual studios & apartments in a laid-back all-season resort offering snow sports & biking trails.
What a difference experience it is to go up here when it’s the summer weather. We decide to hike it and soak up all the experiences this place has to offer under the beautiful sun. We climbed right up to the summit.
What a beautiful place with such an amazing view, worth a go 🤩👍

A wonderful ski resort with a great range of slopes to suit all skill levels.
Supporting elements are also exceptional for the region, with a cafe, restaurant, fully stocked ski shop (and I mean fully stocked), accommodation on site, another restaurant, equipment hire and easy transport to local towns.
Honestly, just go here. It’s great.

Wow. What an amazing experience. First time in a ski resort but I must say this was fantastic. Great staff and a well managed venue. Highly recommend to any ski or non ski travellers.

It was an amazing experience playing mountain carting with families and friends out of ski season here. The 2 hours downhill with the carting is exciting and friendly to kids, the cart is easy to manipulate, it allows parents sitting with kids under 8 in one cart, or leave anyone over 8 to play himself, it looks scary at the beginning, once you try the longest trail once, you will start enjoying it.

Went up for a look around on a lovely sunny day 🌅🏔️, be prepared for a steep hill climb and a bumpy ride as it a long Windy road to the top , but definitely worth it as the veiws are pretty spectacular ! You can walk up the track to the top or take the gondola 🚠 we walked the track as it's pretty easy and not steep 😉

Mountain biking here was great. My first time at a mountain bike park but was a great experience. Rented all the gear and bought lift passes for the day. I would recommend the full day passes as you can build up to the other routes like we did if you're novice!
Ros C — Google review
Have never been up the mountain before so was a wonderful experience. Hubby enjoyed seeing it bare of snow as he is used to. The family really enjoyed their carting experience. Best Christmas present we could have bought.
Sandra Carmichael — Google review
Still the best ski mountain in the south. Wide open spaces and terrain for all levels.
Get up there early though and save yourself some coin by buying your pass on line before you venture up the hill.

Awesome slopes with fantastic views! The service was remarkable -- we had to change our plans at the last minute due to illness, and Cardrona was very flexible to change our ski day with a lesson and they handled it without any problems! Highly recommend the beginner package, the instructor (Oscar) was knowledgeable, funny and made sure everyone felt good throughout the lesson.
Juho Leinonen — Google review
It was my first time on the slopes, and being summer, I did Cardrona mountain carting, and it was an awesome experience.
The drive up can be a bit unnerving. For newcomers it could do with a preparation track before hitting the 3 main tracks. "Skyline" is meant to be an introduction/ beginner track but from all three tracks I found it to have the fastest acceleration points.
Would love to do it again if I had a chance. You don't get opportunities to take photos on the track which is a downer.
Haroon Mongratie — Google review
Nice skiing with an big range of runs to choose from, lots of lifts and more than enough runs. A few cool small terrain parks and some gaint ones. Watching people doing big jumps is fun too. We came in not the very best of snow seasons and even though there was not enough snow for half of the runs we still had an absolute blast. Next time we"LL stay in Wanaka and try out treble cone too. So much fun.

We headed up there on 5/10/2021, a cloudy day during the morning. Luckily, we got the sunshine in the afternoon.
Easy access toilet and plenty stand for dropping off your ski broad.
Good place for skiing.
Rui Lau — Google review
Great first timer experience with brilliant instructors in lessons across the two days. Crowded both days simply due to great weather and being post covid.
Plenty of resources from the shop, rental, accommodation, storage lockers and food.
The food options up on the slopes are ridiculously overpriced though so pack some food and drink from home.

A big shout out to the crew in the work shop. Fixed a binding issue, adjusted a boot fitting, waxed a set of skis all with a smile and free chocolate to boot. 😂Great crew there and congratulation to the the staff on the lifts for smiles all round to skiers and especially the relaxed atmosphere around the kids.
Well done Management, well done Staff

Absolutely fantastic ski resort. Entire family loved it. Every little and big thing was perfect. The staff was especially helpful. They/them helped us with everything we needed. When I got completely black out drunk before going skiing they/them were kind enough to carry me back to my room.
Harvey Marryatt — Google review
We requested refund as the ski field was closed due to windy weather. We arrived at Cardrona shop at Queenstown and waited for almost 2 hours for anyone could assist. Two staff members in the shop, only one was the manager could possess the refund. However she spent one hour with a family and ignore all the others queueing up in the room. Very poor service, no insight about priority.
Katie Mitchell — Google review
Fun to ski, but 30 minute queues ruin it and suggest; i) crowd / mountain mismanagement, ii) profits over guest experience, and/or iii) complete unawareness.
Waiting in queues for hours takes the gloss off of an expensive leisure activity or even the best conditions. Mountain managers could also do a much better job of communicating to crowds basic information like ETAs for opening, delays and making sure the chairs are always packed at capacity. Ski schools and alpine racing teams get preference at the expense of the general crowd creating an unfair experience.
Unlike any other alpine environment I’ve been in, in terms of delays. Disappointed because the mountain has said it was improving this issue this year, but mountain management doesn’t match what’s on the tin...
E Cotton — Google review
Skiing will always be fun but the facilities don't match the resort capacity. Seating areas are massively over subscribed so feels very crowded and difficult to find somewhere to sit for a quick lunch. Facilities at main base also don't take advantage of the great views!
They also seem to experience more problems with the chairlifts than I've been aware of at other resorts too so may need updating but I'm no expert.
Harrison Phillips — Google review
We took snowboarding lessons at Cardrona and loved it. We have also taken a lesson in Colorado and I preferred the learning area at Cardrona as it is such a gradual slope and you can use the magic carpet instead of a lift. We got so many more practice runs in this way and made some good progress. Our instructor Renee was so easy going to patient and did a great job giving everyone in our group individual instruction. Not sure how the actual slopes are as we just stayed in the beginner area. Rental equipment was in great condition and affordable. Would definitely come back in the future.
Amanda Edgar — Google review
Recently my family and I spent a few days up the mountain at Cardrona. Mountain was average (as expected at this time of year) but they still managed to keep a good number of runs at all levels open. Staff were absolutely awesome. Absolutely interested in people skiing/boarding and did their best to make it happen. Kieran at the front desk was super helpful and made sure all our tickets and lessons were sorted. When the weather looked poor he made sure we'd be able to get back on a good weather day. Totally enhanced our experience and ensured we'll be back again.

Absolutely loved my time on the slopes. First time snowboarder at 35 years old who had a private lesson with my fiancé! Instructor was patient, supportive and fun.
We went in off season so we were told it wasn’t packed and the lift lines moved pretty smooth and efficiently.

An expansive ski resort with all the trappings— restaurants, bars, shops... the slopes are all well maintained and the massive crowds spread out. I think this is New Zealand's largest and busiest ski resort. I personally much prefer the ski clubs like Ohau, but thought I would come check this place out. There are a couple of really long runs— you'll think your at Whistler or Chamonix. The noodle bar upstairs is fantastic.

Nice, medium size ski and boarding resort with beautiful views in nice area of New Zealand! Prices are about average and friendly people working there! Free shuttle from the parking lot right of road to resort and can have shuttle pick you up from Queenstown or Wanaka for not to bad of a price!

The cabin we got is really grea! Located on the 2nd floor of the restaurants, cafe and all the rental gears you need for the snow activities. The cabin is fully equiped with great amenity for a getaway. We got the cabin that can accommodate up to 8 people with a spacious living room that our group can enjoy.
What a ride! My partner and i are both experienced trek riders and couldn't have had more fun than with Kelly and her horses on the pub ride! She took such a good care of us, and is full of funny anecdotes of the local area where she has lived for so long. Cannot recommend enough!
Maxence Benoist (Eklipsnoire) — Google review
A fabulous ride combining walking, running and cantering with fantastic scenery. Kelly shared local historical stories bringing alive the area that we travelled through. Horses are in excellent condition and Kelly ensures each rider was always comfortable and able. A great day. Highly recommended.

Ana was an amazing guide for our quad bike tour. She expertly led us through working farms, skillfully handling gates as we ventured across the landscape.
During the two-hour ride, we enjoyed powerful 350hp quad bikes that were thrilling to ride. Although some mud splashed onto us, it dried quickly and was easily brushed off. It might be helpful to wear ski pants in the winter, even though Ana wore shorts. Merino or ski gloves are recommended as well, but the quad bike facility can provide some if needed.
Conveniently, there are restrooms at the base of the tour. We had a fantastic time exploring Cardrona on quad bikes and were treated to breathtaking views from high vantage points, including the stunning snow-crowned peaks.

Amazing horse riding experience! The horses were well-trained and beautifully cared for, adding to the overall enjoyment of the ride. The trails we explored were breathtaking, offering stunning views of the mountains that I'll never forget. Enjoying the one-on-one lesson for beginners and history about gold rush on this land. Whether you're a seasoned equestrian or trying horse riding for the first time, this is the perfect place to make unforgettable memories.

We had a wonderful time riding horses today and everything was great. Kelly was an amazing instructor and she made instructions extremely clear and understandable especially as we had a couple of beginners. The horses were very friendly and it made it a ton easier to ride. The ride itself was beautiful. The scenery and path was great and the instructions given made the slightly difficult parts much more relaxing. Trotting on our horses was literally one of the exhilarating parts of the ride and everything was made easier which was wonderful. I have a brother around 5 and he had the best time ever despite not having ridden a horse before. This was because Kelly was great at leading him on his horse. One of the best parts was that Kelly had actually given us a history talk on our trek as well. It was very clear and informative and I learnt a lot of things that I did not know before. The free photos we got from the horse trek of our family were so gorgeous. We enjoyed feeding the horses after as well. The whole experience was so fun and we loved it so much. 100% recommend as it is a very family friendly activity or just a fun activity to do with friends and others. Will be going again in the winter.

The guides, one of them Blandine, were very friendly and ensured safety of all the quad bike riders. Tour was paced really well and the distance driven (we went up and up!) was suitable even for beginners. The steep terrain of the valley was daunting at first but you get used to it and at the peak, your eyes will be treated a to a beautiful view of the valley and adjacent mountains. What a sight to behold!

As someone with my own horses at home, horse riding experiences aren’t something I’ve ever been drawn to but something about the New Zealand landscape made me really want to go for a ride. So I contacted Kel and the team at the Cardrona and organised a private ride. My guide Summer was wonderful to ride with and taught me a lot about the local area on our ride. It felt like going for a ride with a friend. My horse Stu was such a sweetie who knew his job so well. Definitely the highlight of my trip. Thank you team!

Stunning scenery which would be worth seeing in all different seasons. Wonderful horses, a variety suited to riders abilities (not all just moving couches!) The guide Kel was fantastic, hugely knowledgeable about the area and the history with a funny side to keep it fresh & interesting.
Highly recommended from an avid horse trekker.

We booked the Twilight Ride really spontaneously (like 2 hours in advance) and still Kelly made it possible for us. Although we had only little experience in horse back riding we felt safe all the way with Kelly being a great instructor, always making sure that we feel comfortable. She is energetic and her enthusiasm is contagious. The horses were easy to ride, well trained and looked healthy and happy, as if they were enjoying the ride as much as we did. During the slower parts of the ride she shared interesting facts about Cardrona and the place's history. The ride was awesome, the scenery was stunning and she also took photos during the ride at the most beautiful places. We crossed the river twice and were allowed to do some gallopping/cantering which was really fun! We were also impressed by the self-cooked food that the horses received at the end of the trip. Great location, great horses and a great guide, thanks for the wonderful experience!

Pictures can't capture how amazing the views and experience was! Ana was our guide for the quad biking session, and she took some lovely pictures and videos for us along the track too. A huge shout out to Emily and Ellie for taking us on our tour on Sunday. It was amazing to be taken up into the mountain and see the valley from the other side. Emily was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive and made us feel comfortable on our trip. We couldn’t recommend this experience enough!
Claire Pryke — Google review
This tour was fine, but nothing amazing. The route you take has essentially the same view throughout the whole trip. It's a view of the hills. There isn't much variety in terriane, or any bonus section to hike or see a hidden landscape or anything. I think I'm comparing it to an ATV tour I took on a different vacation, and the other one was more a little more impressive. I will say that the tour guide we had was great! And just driving Quad bikes can be fun.The experience was pleasant. And their base area was cosy and nice. They also take pictures, which you can buy. And I think the guides pictures came out better than our own, so I appreciate that! Overall it was fun. Just not anything mind blowing.

We had such an incredible experience doing the twilight horse riding with Kelly. You get an amazing experience riding through farmland and through the hills with an incredible view of crown range and surrounding scenery.
We also got to do a lot of galloping which was really fun (my husband was a beginner and he thoroughly enjoyed it)!
Have been to a couple of horse riding experience and this one wins hands down.
Would go back again in a heartbeat!

If you are in the Queenstown area, you need to book this Quad Bike ride. It’s about 45 minutes outside the city and absolutely gorgeous. Our instructor, Hannah, took us all the way up a mountain stopping to share history of the land and to take some memorable pictures. We had an absolute blast, this is a must when we visit again.

There were no quad tours available, so I spontaneously went on a horse trek. It was a really great and relaxing experience in the countryside. Although I had no experience with horses at all, I never felt stressed or overwhelmed. The guide took a lot of time to coach us and explain everything we needed to know. I can fully recommend it if you would like to try out horse riding in a beautiful setting.

The High Country Pub Trail with Kel was absolutely amazing. I really had so much fun. We cantered a lot, which I appreciated a lot as an experienced rider, plus there is this beautiful scenery with lupin flowers, sheep, cows and deers which is just breathtaking. Kel is a great guide and I really liked her great energy. During the trek, she told me a lot about the history of the place, which I found very interesting. Dembe was such a lovely horse. I have to say that it was the best riding trek I've ever had so far. Thank you so much for this great experience, dear Kel!

2125 Cardrona Valley Road, Wānaka 9381, New Zealand
Controversial tourist attraction since 1999 of a wire fence lined with bras of all shapes & sizes.
It's worth a stop and look around the Bradrona fence to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Foundation
William Lin — Google review
Yes, it is a controversial tourist attraction in Otago, New Zealand. For some, it is an eyesore and embarrassment, but for others it is just another NZ local wisdom of 'love lock bridge'. It is located on a public road reserve just at the entrance of Cardrona distillery. It you are not travelling this area, it is good to know that the location is out of main highways so you need to have a special intention to go there unless you are skiing at Cardrona.
Masrizal Mahmud — Google review
A very odd spot.
Mid our way through southern you zealand on the main road, you come across this sight.
About 300 bras just hanging in the middle of nowhere. Felt like it was worth a photo and spent like 15 minutes trying to capture most of it.

I did not want to miss this quirky spot while visiting the area!
Found this place while driving on our way to Queenstown and sits in the middle of beautiful valley, the fence packed with a ton of bras!
We found bras with some writings and funny notes from women with stories from around the world.
There is donation box for NZ Breast Cancer foundation where you can contribute too to the fund.

Cool stopby on the way to Queenstown via Ceown Range Summit 😱
Clament Wong — Google review
Well story behind this fence is that 1999 new year few women started hanging their bras and since then many people opposed and many came together in support. At some point nearly 2006 they were about to discard the whole thing but then the local community wanted to raise funds for breast cancer as well as they wanted to make the world record of longest bra fence in the world but could not succedded but started raising the donation and till now they have raised nearly $30000 which is great.
Some people might feel disgusting but what i belive is we should be open to acceptance in the society if it is for good reason.
Nids — Google review
It's nice to raise the awareness. Just a spot to stop for a minute, take photos, and continue to Cardrona hotel or to Wanaka.

As a breast cancer survivor, I feel like this is the spot that I should not miss while visiting the area.
Beautifully placed in the middle of beautiful valley, the fence packed with hundreds (or perhaps even thousands) of bras serves as a great reminder about the importance of taking care of ourselves and at the same time spread the awareness about breast cancer.
Many left their bras with some writings and notes on it, telling a little story and where they are from.
There is a box for donation for New Zealand Breast Cancer foundation so you are welcomed to contribute to the fight of breast cancer as well.

The National Transport and Toy Museum in Wanaka is a place where enthusiasts can find almost every type of collectible toy. The museum has a kids play area, toy store, and picnic area.
Beautiful place. My little one really had great fun. They’ve got so many old things that will remind you of your childhood 😊

This is a comprehensive collection of almost every type of transport you can think of. Some displays have good explanation and/or background stories but most have very little other than the model etc. Cafe was nonexistent but the store itself was full of models to suit everyone.
There's a brewery next door with a great selection of beer but they only serve pizza if you're looking for lunch as well.

I came across the museum as I was leaving Wanaka and I had a bit of time to spare so I thought I'd quickly pop in to look around. I landed up staying for more than 2 hours, and I didn't even get to see everything! This place is absolutely wonderful and I'd recommend it to anyone who is in the Wanaka area. The museum has an incredible amount of pieces on display, and there is definitely something for everyone here. Looking through the toys was a wonderful trip down memory lane. The displays have been put together very well, and it's incredible to see the some of the old toys in such a good state. The vast array of vehicles within the different sections of the museum is mind-blowing. From planes, cars and motor bikes to bicycles, boats and fire trucks you can easily spend a whole day exploring this amazing place.

What a lovely place!
It is really the best collection of vehicles and planes I have seen in New Zealand. There are an in fathomable amount of vehicles. Enough that my father could find each one of his old family cars!
I would recommend closer to 4 hours as it will give you an hour per building. There are also a few things to be seen out the back as well as in the yard.
Before in the store as it is best toy store you would of seen in a while, large collections of lego, plastic model, die cast models, dolls, Sylvanian family and more.
Highway recommend it for a days activity for all ages!

Beautiful huge place. The amount of cars, planes, motorbikes, toys and so on is amazing! You can spend hours looking at everything. The fire engine collection is amazing!!!! And it's the same with the car collection. You can find cars that are almost 100 years old!! They let you enter to 3 old aeroplanes.

Great place. You will be able to find something that interests you here. Been past many times. Very glad we finally stopped here. It has a bit of everything. Allow enough time to wonder around so you don't miss anything.

Great collection with everything from toy figurines to old typewriters, bicycles to jet aircraft. Something for everyone and could spend ages looking at everything. 90% of the collection is inside several buildings but there's also a few larger pieces outside on display. Didn't check out the cafe but the shop area has a lot of toys on sale.

The Wanaka Toy and Car Museum is an amazing place. There are so many classic cars, trucks and toys. You think you have seen it all and there is yet another building full of old vehicles. There are a number of aeroplanes too. Amongst the toys were a lot of model cars, Barbies and Lego.
A word of warning: My wife was following me round but she was getting rather weary by the end of it.
Well recommended for those interested in cars.

Such a brilliant experience! The toy collection in incredible and a great walk down memory lane. A great way to spend a few hours. The display is very intelligently arranged so that there is something for everyone in each of the four buildings.

This place was awesome it's quite a large area. A recommendation is for them to have maps to give you as there are quite a few different buildings. Well worth a look.

Unbelievable and exciting museum. One of world's hidden wonders, for sure.
Amazing collection of almost everything that world has produced in last 150 years. Toys, cars, bikes, chainsaws, engines, boats, airport cars, tractors, fire engines, planes, baby strollers, tanks, dolls, lego sets, hot wheels, model trains, model cars, decorative spoons, irons, fax machines, vintage computers, cans and... on and on. It's not possible to write it all. 10000% must see in South Island.
Girts Slavins — Google review
The sheer size of this. It just has so much to look at! For Lego fans and toy fans in general, the toy exhibits amazing. The cars, so many but none restored or shown very well. Even so, great to stroll thru this collection of mostly old British cars and a few American cars. The planes are great too.

Awesome experience at the museum with a 3 years old. We could spend all day here. Lots of things to see and play with.
Highly recommend to stop by!

Wanaka Lavender Farm is a picturesque agricultural attraction situated high in the rolling hills of Wanaka. The 10 acre lavender fields are a popular sight, as are the farm animals (alpacas, sheep, goats and occasionally pigs) and the on-site honey bee hive. The gardens are also home to a cafe serving local food and drinks as well as honey, oil and soap products for sale.
This is the most beautiful farm, so much lavender, flowers, beautiful products, animals and Bees! So stunning, inviting and fun! Games to play and so many gardens to explore. Loved our time here. And the lavender and chocolate Ice cream was so delicious it was almost erotic! Gorgeous, affordable and a must visit!
Finn Rivers — Google review
Highly recommend a visit if you're staying in Wanaka. The grounds are beautifully laid out and even in the middle of winter, it was great to see the lavender bushes and many animals on site. The gift shop and tea room is lovely, and a good way to pause after wandering the gardens.
Plenty of parking and no need to purchase tickets before arriving (in winter).

When my wife suggested stopping at a lavender farm I wasn’t particularly enthused. But it was surprisingly beautiful and interesting. Kids will like it because there are some goats they can pet. The grounds and gardens are gorgeous. We were there in late November and the lavender was just beginning to bloom.
Chris Schorre — Google review
So beautiful!! The lavender is stunning but so are the other flowers on the property. They also have a cute little shop with a wide range of lavender products, honey, and ice cream. There are plenty of places outside to sit and enjoy the beautiful weather and landscape. We have driven by other lavender farms in the area but it is hard to beat the assortment of flowers and views of this farm. We definitely want to come back for another visit!
Jennifer Archer — Google review
A neat and well looked after place to spend an hour or two. There are a variety of animals on the farm in enclosures too.
Entry fee was only $5 at the time we went and they’ve got tonnes of stuff in their shop - it smells amazing!
The cafe is super cute as well and they’ve for lavender sorbets and chocolates. Staff were friendly and helpful!

Lovely day to visit the farm.
There are animals, fairy houses and puzzles all around the farm making it a great day out for families.
Shame that the lavender had been farmed in November so maybe I’ll visit another time just before they’re cut.
The homemade products in the shop are really nice too especially the ice cream
Becca Makin — Google review
What a beautiful lavender farm. You do have to pay an entry fee to walk around but it's definitely worth it, esp when the lavenders are blooming. Takes a good 1-2 hrs to walk around as there are lots of photo opportunities and plenty of other visitors to fight over the photo shoot (just kidding) but you do have to wait at the purple door and the purple tractors (there are 2 by the way). The cafe mainly serve small sweet snacks and ice cream, tea and coffee. So don't expect to have a meal there. Overall, really recommend coming to this pretty attraction at Wanaka.

A lovely place to visit. Lots of interesting things games to play, lots of of short easy walks. The animals are friendly. Winter prices good value.

We visited during the Winter of Aug 2023, so there wasnt any lavender blooms to see. But there were plenty of farm animals that we could see and feed.
The farm is still a very nice place to visit and walk around taking photos.
Recommend to pay a visit if you are free.

A cute little kid friendly place with some Instagrammable spots. Manicured rows of lavender bushes and farm animals (including alpaca!) with a nice little cafe as well. They also sell lavender oils and creams.
Antonius Howard — Google review
Really beautifully-kept grounds and absolutely lovely to wander around especially on a clear day. I would say this is the perfect spot for families with young children to visit, but even our group of adults really loved stopping by.
We came during off-peak season on a weekday, and whilst the lavender was not in bloom it was still well worth a visit because the space is so pleasant to walk around visiting the different farm animals. The shop and cafe is also great for lavender fans and we spent a small fortune here on essential oils and honey!
T T — Google review
Their gardens are beautiful, no doubt. But personally, i felt their beauty products and oils seemed bit expensive to me. I tried their lavender honey ice cream cup, which was just okay. Not very great. To see lavender farms, you can definitely visit them, its good for photography as well.
One thing I would like to mention, they charge $15 for entry to farm. I noticed some people entered farms even without paying fees. Which I personally felt awkward.

Not the greatest time of the year to go as it’s close to the end of the season. However it was still beautiful and we had heaps of fun.
Family friendly and awesome photo opportunities.
The little farm shop sells honey, tea, icecream and macarons. There’s also natural beauty products, and oils.

Wanaka Lavender Farm in New Zealand is like stepping into a colorful dream during the summer. The fields are full of beautiful lavender flowers that smell amazing. You can walk around, breathe in the lovely scent, and enjoy the pretty purple flowers. It's a peaceful and beautiful place where you can relax and take in the sights and smells of nature. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

These girls are gorgeous and they do a gorgeous job too. So inspiring. With a range of products they have in store, variety of high quality honey, and the way they operate the business they motivated me to plant a lavender farm when I return back to Europe one day myself. I wish I could partner with them in this business and learn from them about the products. Lot of potential. This is amazing.
Nikola Segedi — Google review
Lovely place to visit! It has a variety of activities across the farm including noughts and crosses, places to take pictures, and animals to see. This cost only $15 for entry. There was also a building where bespoke honey and lavender products could be purchased, and you could order icecream and tea. Overall, I would recommend this for some aromatherapy and fun for the whole family!

Worth visiting: There is a charge to enter the lavender gardens for viewing through the cafe.
It's an easy walk. If you're sensitive to the sun, an umbrella might be beneficial.
If you have kids, take some snacks and drinks, lots of places to sit, and enjoy the views, especially if the weather is good.
Blueberry muffins (free honey tastings) and assorted teas served in quaint teapots and lovely teacups. (Paid)
We bought tickets on arrival, 2 minutes wait.

Summary 3/5: Visit during off peak hours to enjoy the place, otherwise it may not be worth it.
The farm 3/5: We were here around noon on a hot summer day🥵, it was very crowded. The place is insta-worthy, has a lot of good photo spots, but taking photos without getting a photo bomb is a real challenge. Patience is a must. When we were here, there wasn't many lavender blooming, just a small part of it. Luckily there are some other types of flowers around the farm that make up for it.
The shop 3/5: air conditioned, nice and organized but a bit pricey. Tried their Manuka Honey with Lavender Ice Cream, cost NZD $5.50 for a scoop. It was ok, can taste a mild hint of lavender flavor, it was nice desert for the hot weather.
Entrance ticket: NZD $15 per person, pay at the cashier inside the gift shop.
Parking: big parking, can accommodate about 50 cars.

An incredible experience visiting the lavender farm in Wanaka.
The space is so well thought out and there is plenty to see. I must admit I was worried about the bees but they were so disinterested in what we are doing with the lavender around.
Incredible spot for photos, had fun walking around and taking some snaps.
Thanks to the team who run this beautiful farm 🪻❤️

Stopped here on our way from Mt. Cook to Queenstown. Admission is $15 per adult in summer and $7.5 in all other seasons. The lavenders were in full bloom in late December and the display is amazing. Besides the lavender fields, they also have plenty of farm animals and other flowers, and the farm grounds are larger than we expected. They also sell honey and a large variety of products suitable for gifts. In all, an enjoyable experience and a nice tourist attraction to stop by.
Wanaka is a charming tourist destination located on the southern tip of Lake Wanaka in New Zealand. Treble Cone and Cardrona ski resorts are also nearby. Puzzling World's outdoor maze and sculpture gallery are just outside the town.
A well-liked round trip to a peak formed by ice, featuring extensive vistas of lakes and mountains. This trail leads to a summit that was shaped by glaciers long ago, making it an interesting geological site as well as an enjoyable hiking destination. To reach Lake Wanaka, take a detour from State Highway 8A and State Highway 6 (northbound) after passing through Tarras. The lake is one of New Zealand's largest and is surrounded by the mountains of Mt. Aspiring National Park. Wanaka town on the southern shore provides easy access to lake-based activities like paddleboarding, kayaking, boating, swimming in summer months and skiing during winter seasons.
Beautiful lake. It’s so wide; so just walking around it will take a while, but there won’t be any bad view. You can also see the famous Wanaka Tree, though it’s not that spectacular, in my opinion. But we saw it at low tide.

A highlight of the town and a nice place for walking around. I appreciated that there were so many nice public toilets, especially in the part that touches the town. It just means that anyone can really spend a long time at the lake and chill there.

Beautiful lake with incredible views from every angle. We had mostly sunny conditions with just a few clouds, and the lighting was amazing for hours. If you want to add a walk to your visit, it may be best to stick to the beach instead of walking on the Waterfall trail. There were a lot of bikers enjoying the weather, so we found that the beach allowed our group to stick to a slower pace.

Lake Wanaka is different from other lakes as it's quite irregular in shape, making it utmost beautiful in every place around Wanaka. You can have totally different feels when driving along SH6, sitting on the jetty at town centre, walking on Roys Peak Track, resting on Mount Iron summit. Take a day or two in Wanaka, and you will definitely feel the beauty and magnificence of Lake Wanaka

Absolutely stunning with so much to see & do. Go boating or take a helicopter ride through the mountains, drive around and see the stunning scenery, visit the town & experience a truly beautiful tourist place with excellent vibes. Close to ski fields, gin distillery & more. Friendly locals always smiling & willing to help. A must see for all ages. Attractions like Warbirds over Wanaka & the toy & car museum. Small little town and a big lake. The famous tree is about a 15 minute walk from the town and can be done near the road or the water. The tree is much closer to the edge of the lake than expected, and much smaller than the photos. Nice pit stop in between a long car or bus ride. The weather can change the experience, definitely plan ahead if this is something you want to include in your trip!

A special tree that can give you great inspiration ! The Roys Bay of Lake Wanaka is only a a very small beach but there stands a very special and expensive tree. People call it the "Lone Tree" This willow tree submerged just off the shoreline of Roys bay in Lake Wanaka has become an iconic feature of the town . This photo album is only for this one tree ! Hope you like it .
This is easily one of the most spectacular lookouts in the country. It is quite high up and it is just nothing but God’s beautiful creation here, which is mostly untouched.

The blue turquoise colour of the lake is due to fine silt particles, or glacial flour, in the water. This is a result of glacial erosion.
Due to climate change, warm temperatures and low rainfall have resulted in a significant drop in the level of Lake Wānaka and it now hovers just millimetres from its lowest ever recorded level, in 1935.
“Lake Wānaka’s level … is still … above the lowest recorded level which was measured on September 25, 1935 at a level of 276.26 metres above sea level.
Lake Wānaka is New Zealand's fourth-largest lake and the the lake is 278 meters above sea level, covers 192 km2 and is more than 300 metres deep.

Wonderful mountain, great views and challenges to climb. I climbed Mount Aspiring Dec 24 2019. I went in solo and found other climbers going for the summit on a good weather day. The approach I did in two stages. First to the lower hut on French Ridge, then to the Colin Todd hut near the summit. The climbers I teamed with, planned to take the early summer route just North of the NW Ridge. We did a 4 am start and there were two huge avalanches that changed our plans to do the full NW Ridge. The rock was mostly a scramble with a couple of 5.0 moves. The ice was very solid and the weather held. It was a good day and great views.

This was our favorite thrill experience on the entire South Island! The jet boat was so much fun and we loved it so much that we wanted to go again. The scenery that you see from the boat is GORGEOUS! The color of the water is magical and we really enjoyed our wilderness hike to the jet boat pickup spot. Did this as part of the Heli Siberia Max tour with Backcountry Helicopters and couldn't recommend it enough!! 10/10 one of the best experiences you could do in the area!! Book it already :)

We used the jetboat for our transfers to and from the Gillespie Pass Circuit (Into Young Valley and out from Kerin Forks). Wilkin River Jets was great in communicating regarding booking spaces on the boats, and our transfers were punctual and stress-free. Definitely worth it not having to do a river crossing, and it was nice to take a spin along some very picturesque rivers. They do a great job with access to the mountains.

If you’re in the area or planning a visit to the region, this is an absolute must do. Thanks for having us.
The Blue Pools Track in New Zealand is a must-visit destination for nature lovers. The area boasts lush green forests and stunningly blue rivers, with the famous Blue Pools being the main attraction. These beautiful pools exhibit mesmerizing watercolors created by rock flour from glaciers, surrounded by the vibrant greenery of New Zealand. However, visitors should be prepared for encounters with the local black flies.
Haast Pass is a serene mountain pass that cuts through the Southern Alps, offering a picturesque journey through lush beech forests. Spanning approximately 140 km, this route from Wanaka to the West Coast showcases diverse vegetation and stunning scenery. The winding road allows for leisurely exploration of the region's breathtaking hikes and waterfalls. A road trip on South Island would not be complete without experiencing Haast Pass, which provides epic views and numerous opportunities for photos or walks in the native bush.
For many the Haast Pass is the scenic drive from Wanaka to the glaciers, with a stop at the Blue Pools.
But if you do a little research you will see the drive is filled with fantastic sites, provided you’re prepared to stop often, and take a short walk.
In order, on the drive up from Haast, make sure you check out Depot Creek falls (20 mins from Haast on the right, 200 walk metres walk), Roaring Billy Falls (23 mins from Haast on the left, signposted with car park, 15 mins walk on a flat track, but the rainforest scenery along the way is superb), Thunder Creek Falls (40 mins from Haast on the left, 5 mins walk to the right of the car park), Fantail Falls (45 mins from Haast on the right, 2 mins walk from the carpark).
And finally, the Blue Pools, which has heaps of parking, but is also popular with bus tours and day trippers from Wanaka and Queenstown. This is about a 40 minute walk each way.
There’s also plenty of places to pull over and admire the scenery, the bridges, river etc.
There are no shops or cafes between Haast and Makaroa, so stock up.

This is an absolutely amazing drive and don't forget to stop here just on the way into Fox Glacier from Wanaka. The Haast Pass is amazing with so many photo opportunities and waterfalls 👌👌
James Buchan — Google review
Stunning place with great views all the way. The scenery is constantly changing and no matter where you look you will get breathtaking views of snow capped mountains to massive forests and roaring rivers. there is so many differnt places to stop along the way especially along the haast river where there is so many waterfalls including the thunder creek and fantail falls. another stop is the blue pools which are great for swimming. Both sides of the drive have great final destinations whether it be the seaside town of haast with massive waves and great seafood or the great place of wanaka with skiing and lots of other stuff.

Mountain scenery, rain forest, tree ferns a water fall and cicadas. Don't miss if you are touring South Island. The only services are at Haast or just north of Lake Wanaka at makarora. There is a rest area and campsite about half way with drinking water and toilets. Apart from that this is unspoilt countryside.

There is a short walk (about an hour) to climb a nice viewing point. Nothing special but you can immagine the divide. Western and eastern. Just a few people there.

Place was beautiful, we crossed Haast in pretty bad weather so couldn’t see the best of it but whatever we saw was nice.

What an amazing piece on NZ so wild and with a very different climate. Loved it will be back soon
Thunder Creek Falls is a stunning 96m tall waterfall located in New Zealand, making it one of the country's most impressive natural attractions. Just a short walk from the car park and only two minutes from the main road, this stop along SH6 is well worth it. The lookout point offers breathtaking views of the falls, making it a popular spot for visitors.
Thunder Creek Falls is Nestled amidst the lush greenery of Mount Aspiring National Park. A hidden gem that offers a refreshing dose of nature's beauty.
At 28 meters tall, the falls create a cascading spectacle, especially after a period of heavy rain.
The short and easy walk to the viewing platform makes Thunder Creek Falls a perfect stop for travelers of all ages and fitness levels. If you're looking for a quick break to stretch your legs and take in some stunning scenery, this waterfall should definitely be on your New Zealand itinerary!

Lots of parking and a super easy walk. Nice rainbow in the bottom of falls with sunshine. The path leads into the river, that has some wonderful patterned rocks- can be very slippery. See more travel ideas on YouTube caravantheworld

Wow! What an amazing experience and a great way to see the natural beauty of the west coast!
It was so cool taking the jet boat up the river, seeing the untouched wilderness of the Haast region.
Our guide, Ruth, did an amazing job explaining the history of the region, as well as, teaching us about the native flora and fauna.
I would highly recommend this tour!

We did the Jet boat trip y'day and what a fabulous Valentine's treat.
Cheers go out to Wayne our driver who was very informative and supplying the lovely morning tea.
It was drizzly rain which added to the ambience.
The walk through the forest was stunning and easy walk.
The Highlight of our trip to the south island 🤗😎🤩
Kyra Reid — Google review
Great trip. There were only two of us but Wayne went anyway. The river was really blue, and very remote. Great scones as well for morning tea. Highlight of our west coast trip.
Wayne Horner — Google review
Amazing family run jet boat tour. Wayne is a great guide and very knowledgeable about the history and geology of the Waiatoto River. The little extras like tea, scones, whitebait and helping us hunt and identify greenstone were much appreciated. Well worth the money, Would recommend to anybody. Thanks Ruth and Wayne.

An incredible experience where you can experience both the alps and the ocean in one excursion. The jet boat cruise takes you to a wild and remote area of NZ experienced by only a few, nature lovers prepare to get your mind blown. In addition, the knowledge shared along the way by your local friendly guide makes this tour an educational and unforgettable activity suitable for anyone travelling the West Coast, NZ.

The Waiatoto River Safari was the hidden gem of our trip! It was a fun ride up the river in a jet boat. The water was amazingly blue, we stopped to take a look at the kiwi sanctuary, we went on a short bush walk, we had tea on the beach area that separated the river from the ocean. My husband and I enjoyed it immensely. Highly, highly recommended.

Despite the torrential rain, Ruth provided an amazing, friendly and professional experience that is worth the trip to Haast (actually Hannah's Clearing) on its own. We loved the information provided on the flora and fauna, pest animals, the whitebait industry, the Alpine Fault, and all of the anecdotes about living on the West Coast. The delicious homemade scones, coffee and whitebait sample capped it off. Thanks Ruth, and we hope to come back again soon - so that we can see the view this time !

We didn’t know what to expect from the River Safari, but it was absolutely amazing, a real highlight of our trip!
Ruth was so knowledgeable and interesting, as well as being an expert pilot of our boat. The ride was spectacular, so beautiful and fascinating to hear about life in the area.

We had booked a flight for a Tuesday but when we arrived in Christchurch during the weekend we realised the weather would be bad and we called to change the flight to later in the week. We had no problem with the change and everything ran smoothly on Thursday. We got fabulous views and landed in Fox where the kids played with the snow. A wonderful experience and would recommend it to anyone visiting New Zealand.

Great experience landing on the glacier. First day was cancelled due to bad weather but we were lucky the next day. Helicopter pilot was great with short commentary and even took our pictures.
One quick feedback - if you are going to cancel - please notify your customers at least. One short line/automated email works. Even an hour before helps as then we can plan something else.

We had a truly spectacular flight over Franz & Fox Glaciers with a snow landing - this is a must do if the weather is kind. It is not often you can stand high on glacial snow & ice with a view of the sea. Thanks & thumbs up all round to a great team.
Marg Baird — Google review
A stunning flight! Our pilot was terrific. We appreciated that the company was very safety conscious and wouldn't land or fly unless it was safe to do so. We felt very lucky that weather allowed a flight and landing!

Our action packed day was finished off with the Grand Tour (3 glaciers + Horokoau (Mt Tasman) & Aoraki).
Worth every penny, dollar and cent!
If you can aim to be up the front, but it is weight dependant due to safety. I let my partner sit in front as he's never been on a helicopter 🚁 before, but semi-regret it.
The snow ❄ landing is quite special.
Thanks Kevin and our pilot Asher for an 👏 time.

Great value for money. Highlight of our NZ holiday.
We had an amazing experience with Haast Heli. Staff were all extremely professional, they planned a great flight up the coast line landing on the beach and flying in land back over the river. Scott’s knowledge was incredible, gave us a local in sight to this stunning area, pointing out landmarks and wildlife. We saw dolphins, seals and penguins. Scotts expertise in flying ensured that we always felt comfortable and safe. The coast line from the air is AMAZING!!!
My partner was very anxious of flying in a helicopter both Scott and Sheri reassured him that if at any time he was uncomfortable being in the air that they will return and land the helicopter immediately. He loved the flight and is very keen to do it again.
Great value for money. We can highly recommend to anyone wanting not wanting to just be a number on the more commercial flight like what we saw at the glaciers.
We will return for a longer flight next time we are in New Zealand. Thanks again Haast Heli.
Lauren Stewart — Google review
We booked the two glacier and snow landing flight. The ground crew were very helpful, and the pilot was very knowledgeable. The flight was smooth and the views and scenery was even better than I had imagined. We'd seen Franz Josef from the valley walk, but to see if from above was really fantastic. The snow landing was great and gave us a few minutes to explore, before heading over to the Fox Glacier. Would definitely do it again and would definitely use HeliServices again too.

This is one of the best information centers in New Zealand in my opinion. A lot of useful information with maps, everything is new beautiful, there is a shop and a small museum inside.
Maya 21 — Google review
Museum is great and well worth the visit.
However the gardens and water features in particular are in a state of disrepair. A bit sad looking as you walk past it to get to the museum. Hope they can fix water features soon.
Used to be a great place to stop for lunch or a break before crossing the HAAST river
Raph — Google review
A spatious centre with several permanent exhibitions, an info desk, and a small shop. The exhibitions are informative but dated. The centre could certainly use more funding from the DOC, especially as it's presenting the UNESCO World Heritage site information to the tourists. But definitely worth a stop.

Very interesting place to stop in at. Photos were faded but the information that went with them was very interesting. Friendly staff. Shame the toilets were out of action.

The lady at the reception should learn how to greet people. She has no customer care. When I entered, the lady was on phone and did not even looked at us or did not smile. Looked like not bothered at all about our presence. There was nobody else in the office/shop. She must learn good manners. I just left the shop. I visited there with my two kids on 30/9/2020 at 12.45 pm. Very poor service.
Dickson John — Google review
A bit of a rare gem I think. Stopped in for a quick look about 4pm and could have spent a while wandering through the exhibitions but for closing time at 4.30pm. Helpful staff greeted and farewelled us, and the exhibitions and displays were interesting on top of the usual maps and guides available.
Definitely worth a look if you are in the area.

Tons of displays, helpful staff who answered questions about hikes in the area, and clean restrooms.

Visited last month and received very helpful advice which landed me at Mataketake hut (awesome when there’s visibility). Staff also helped me with booking the hut since I’d lost my phone.
Unfortunately they don’t offer PLB hire, nor does anyone else in the area as far as I’m aware. Haast heliservices said they’ve stopped doing it
Aidan Gauper — Google review
Lovely visitor center with a great set of displays talking about the history and ecology of the area. Great views of the nearby marsh and wild critters from within the visitor's center! The staff are knowledge about walks along the coast and into the park. Make sure to stop here if you want to learn more about the lovely landscape you're driving through.

Must Do. Worth stopping in to get all the info needed on the area. Very helpful/friendly staff. Landscaping around building a must-see. Short Wet-lands walk lovely.
Vivian Brownell — Google review
Very helpful guide at the center, and they have a big free exhibition about nature, history and animals around the area.
A splendid place to stop and enjoy a couple of very different short walks. The kahikatea forest walk takes you right amongst some tall groves of these amazing trees. I love kahikateas and there are so few left in Canterbury, it's a real treat to walk amongst them. The dune walk was also a special experience with the white dunes and the flotsam that washes up on est coast beaches. We were there at sunset and it was quite magical. No sandflies were found!
Moira Fraser — Google review
I visited Ship Creek Beach in Aug 22, and it was great. Isolated and almost eerie during the late afternoon with no one else on the beach. As the photos show, there is a lot of Driftwood on the beach. It's not safe for swimming due to strong currents, and there are no lifesavers, so don't risk it.
Ahmad — Google review
The sand flies on the beach are thick! It's nice to be able to climb the tower, walk the boardwalk and beach. Just apply some bug spray. There were no sandflies on the swamp walk. Restrooms available

Nice scenic view of the beach. There is a view point where u have to climb ladders which is complicated. Public toilet available. No pets allowed

We did the dune lake walk. A nice short 15-20 minute walk, although the best views are obtained from the wooden lookout you can climb at the start of the track (so make sure you climb up this structure!). There are also a couple of nice lookouts on the dune lake track.

Ship Creek has a toilet and adequate parking. Easy walks & quick access to beach. Has a fun little spotting tower.

There are several short walks in the area, all on flat and well maintained boardwalks or paths. The beach itself has some lovely shiny rocks, and there is a bay near the carpark that is beautiful to see (and photograph).
Rebecca — Google review
Just beautiful!! Highly recommend the stop. Even got to see a pod of dolphins
Jodie Spedding — Google review
To the left, of the main entry/carpark a short boardwalk leads over the sand to a beach view and off this a pathway around 20 - 30 mins return and up about 30m of stairs to a viewing platform with views down the coast. Parking for all sized vehicles available and some good displays around to look over.
Tip - remember to take the sandfly repellant
Doubie26 — Google review
Lovely loop walk to a tranquil lagoon. If you don’t have time for that climb the lookout. If you aren’t fit enough for that the beach and stream are still a very pretty sight.
Neville Merritt — Google review
This is a must-see en route up the West Coast. A beautiful and beautifully presented walk combining beach, woodland, and lakeside all within an hour. A credit to DoC.
At the main area and then along the pathway there are steps up to look-out points. So keep an eye out for them and make these short climbs which command great vistas.
And there’s a clean and tidy toilet block too!

Lovely little stop with three walk options, two tracks and then the beach, all wonderful. Some bigger parking spots available if you are towing a caravan. Highly recommended. See more on YouTube caravantheworld

Yes there are sandflies (the little gnats that bite and leave welts) so just have a jacket on and you'll be good :) The rocks. THE ROCKS. they are tumbled to perfection on this beach. If you love searching for rocks, go here - we collected way too many haha. Like a 1 min walk on a boardwalk from the car park to get to the beach.

Great natural beach location with two really interesting and informative short walks, and a lookout tower. The signage and boardwalks are fantastic.

There are 2 different walks here with a decent path or walkway, good to break up a long car journey on the west coast. There are toilets too if nature calls

Lovely stop with great views, even on a rainy day! The boardwalk makes experiencing the different sections of the bush really easy (with minimal sand!). Unfortunately, the swamp track is still closed as of March 2023.

Theobelisk monument at Knights Point was set up to celebrate the completion of the highway connecting Westland with Otago.
What is interesting is the name. Usually Prime Minister's / politicians try to name things after themselves / monuments, buildings, roads etc. Usually it is called empire building.
If you don’t tell people about your success, then they probably won’t know about it. Wellington City is the capital where the politicians call the shots. Politicians are renowned for promoting themselves and naming stuff for posterity.
However, the construction crew outsmarted the delegation from Wellington and informed them that the area had "already been named" Knights Point. The officials inquired who "Knight" was and were informed that he was the surveyor's dog. Knights Point was named after Norman McGeorge's dog Knight.
The tail wags the dog! An expression
used to describe a situation in which an important or powerful person, organization, etc., is being controlled by someone or something that is much less important or powerful.
The official opening of this last section of the highway that is now State Highway 6 was on 6 November 1965.
Today the site includes a car park and viewing platform overlooking the coast towards Arnott Point, a resting area for New Zealand fur seals and occasionally elephant seals.

One of the many viewpoints on West coast. Nothing special about the place. Got a parking area and rest rooms. Beware of sandflies.

Not much to do here, no walks just a car park with some views and a toilet block. There are information signs that explain a bit of history of the area and the building of the west coast road.

Not much to see on a rainy day. Could hardly see the water. I imagine the view would be ok on a sunny day, but as others have commented it’s pretty overgrown. Sand flies were out, so dress accordingly. There are loo/bathroom facilities though
Andy Andersen — Google review
Not the best view of the Tasman sea... As it's quit over grown... But nice monument here to avoid the history of the Haast pass. Clean toilets although it's just a long drop. Plenty of safe parking available.
coen cramer — Google review
First and foremost: come prepared with bug repellant! Tons of sandflies here and they’ll happily chomp on any exposed part of you otherwise.
Overall a pretty viewpoint, but not super remarkable. The whole region is so gorgeous that I didn’t find this specific spot to hugely stand out, if that makes any sense. Still a good place to stop and stretch your legs, and use clean bathrooms if you need them.
Really nice beach. The best place to see Fiordland Crested Penguins (Tawaki). Very good sightings at sunrise and just before sunset. Only recommendation is to come prepared for sand flies.
Jose Carrillo — Google review
Not a fantastic beach unless you like sandflies or you're fortunately enough to be there when the penguins are not out at sea, but worth visiting for the amazing trek along the rainforest path that leads to the beach, including the bouncy bridge! Allow 45 minutes each way for the walk.

A must do activity if you travel Haast - Fox Glacier or visa versa. The walk through the magic forest is very pleasant and you might spot special birds. The beach is beautiful with spectacular rocks and some months (July- November) you can see pinguïns.
Peter Kok — Google review
This hidden beach, nestled beyond a 40-minute walk through a local jungle, offers a unique and secluded escape from the typical tourist spots. The journey itself adds an adventurous touch, making the arrival at the beach even more rewarding. What sets this destination apart is the rare opportunity to witness penguins, creating a magical experience, especially until early December. If you're seeking tranquility, a touch of adventure, and the chance to marvel at nature's wonders, this off-the-beaten-path beach is a hidden gem worth exploring.
Markus K. — Google review
Nice walk to a beach where penguin sightings are possible. Sand flys galore.

Enchanting easy walk where the rain forest meets the ocean.
At 3pm a couple coming from the beach said they say two penguins.
We waited for 15 minutes but couldn’t take the sandflies.
The walk down to the beach didn’t have any sandflies.
Three years ago I could hear the babies chirping in the rocks, it was Dec.
This time no chirping.
Enjoy!

I had an amazing experience on the best hike imaginable, through lush jungle leading to a stunning beach. Be sure to bring some spray to fend off the sand flies. With a bit of luck, you might even spot penguins!
The trail was easy to navigate, taking only 1.5 hours round trip. Restroom facilities available at the parking area.

A great walk through a forest to a secluded beach which is a breeding ground for penguins.
Unfortunately we didn't see any penguins on our visit, but the walk and the beach were worth it in any case.
It took approx 1h 20m for a walk out and back again, with a few minutes spent at the beach.
It was doable in trainers, and was mostly flat with an even walking surface.

Beautiful walk through gorgeous forest. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any Penguins but still worth it.
Brigit Pratt — Google review
A small beach where you can see Fiordland crested pingouins, if you're lucky. We saw three in two hours.
They are quite shy, so lay down on a rock and be calm while waiting. Wear long clothes because of sandflies.
Quentin Li — Google review
We didn’t see any penguins on our visit in early February (midday), I think it’s best to go earlier in the year to see them nesting when they are more frequently spotted. The walk itself to the beach was pleasant and quite easy on the legs through a nice portion of forest/jungle.
Word of warning: cover up exposed skin as the beach was heavily populated with sandflies who were relentless!
Henry Green — Google review
This is by far a top 10 favorite walk. The entire walk is relatively flat traveling through a rainforest feeling surrounding you. The trees put on such unique displays the way they've grown into odd shapes and thicknesses. Most wearing beautiful moss leggings lol some with some covered entirely. The path is very clear and open. The air is fresh. We didn't spot penguins as we were told they left the area at the start of December. But we were pleased with the walk alone and the beach at the end was the "icing on the cake". We recommend, and as most reviews are saying, prepare yourself with covered clothing or repellent for the sandflies. We were covered and took a citronella candle, but no repellent sprayed on our exposed skin....amateurs. Luckily, just our hands were attacked. No dogs allowed.
