Short drive from Bega. Definitely recommend SUV or 4WD. Very short walk from the parking. Beautiful place to spend a day with family. Ample parking place, public toilets, sitting area, and BBq hot plates.
As the place is of great cultural significance, the Aboriginal owners request no to swim in the falls. "As per sign posted"

Easy to get to. We walked around (didn't swim as asked by the local aborigines) and had a good look.very pretty area.

Well maintained. Beautiful area with plenty of informational plaques about the history and significance of the area.

Please note: visitors are advised not to swim in respect to the site's cultural significance for Yuin Nations.
Wonderful and informative experience visiting these falls. Indigenous cultural heritage on the displays are well researched and presented (although one has become a bit sun damaged). I feel privileged to be allowed to view such a sacred and important place.

Beautiful waterfall tucked away in the mountains. Design tributes iconic Yuin cultural location. Great picnic sites on the edge of the creek and short boardwalk. Be ready for the long and bumpy gravel drive. Good toilets.

A short walk to a beautiful gorge and waterhole on the south coast, with Aboriginal significance. Due to changed road access, it is quite a long drive on unsealed roads to get here, but worth the drive for a very beautiful and well sign-posted waterhole and falls. Picnic and BBQ facilities available.
Note - there is signage that states the local Yuin people request people don't swim here. On our visit this was largely ignored, with many people in the water and jumping off the rocks.

A great way to take advantage of the natural splendour of Biamanga National Park is by stopping at Biamanga Cultural area during your road trip.
You'll find a convenient boardwalk – perfect for walking with children – that leads to a scenic lookout where you can see water cascading through a dramatic gorge and granite boulder field. This is part of the legacy of an ancient shield volcano in the area, and the story of its Aboriginal heritage is conveyed through interpretive signs and an information shelter here.
Don't forget your camera – the forest setting is beautiful, with eastern water dragons sunning themselves on rocks and chefs cap correa bursting with lemon and green colours. Birdwatching is superb as well – with azure kingfishers and blue wrens frequenting the area, it’s almost as though they're putting on a show for visitors.
After your stroll, unpack a lunch at one of the picnic tables or fire up the free gas barbecues for a relaxing afternoon with family and friends beneath the eucalypts. This is a great picnic spot, shady and serene, surrounded by the calming sounds of the rushing creek.
The Aboriginal custodians request that visitors, through respect, do not swim in the Mumbulla Falls area - a site that is sacred to the Yuin People.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU CAN NOT SWIM OR GO ON THE ROCK SLIDE ANYMORE.
Very disappointing after a long drive to see that you can no longer swim in the deep section where the rock slide is. We have been visiting the rock slide for years and years but it's now closed as a cultural area. Down stream near the BBQs isn't a cultural area though, so you're allowed to swim in the ankle deep water there 🤪

Delicious cheese and coffee, nice historic place.
I came early on a holiday weekend and after 30 minutes the place was full of people.
I went to the top level to read and see how this company was first established and the tools that were used and how they were developed. I liked it.
Then I tried a plate of mixed cheese which I highly recommend it ( the heritage premium cheese was amazing!).
The coffee and ice cream were very good. I would suggest trying the fudge but keep in mind it is very sweety.
Loved this place.

Normally an interesting place to stop at and have a look as well as trying out some cheese which is available to purchase, having stopped in a couple of tiimes on the way through over the years. Was going to stop on the way through in January but to find on a sign saying temporary closed. Hopefully next time I might be lucky.

Location wasn't great - museum section was great and informative but would be nice to see and possibly have opportunities to see cheese making or processes.
Cafe was nice. Soup was delicious and the gourmet toastie was tasty.

Stopped in here at the cultural centre as an impromptu visit. Enjoyed an iced chocolate and some scones. Interesting history on display about dairy farming. Cute little shop upstairs with lots of handmade items for sale. Lots of gifts to purchase downstairs for cheese lovers, Vegemite and cow lovers.
Mareta Dewitt — Google review
A good place to get some tasty food and cheese also learn about Australian cheese history. The kids enjoyed the museum on the top floor. The kids loved the ice cream and cheese. There is art work of community being sold here. There are a lot of parking spaces. Also there is a public toilet. Good place to stop if driving in the region.

Didn’t plan on being at the Cheese Heritage Centre however so pleased I did stop. The coffee is great, the museum is fantastic and bought back so many memories of the old family farm. Good cafe and some wonderful food. Met Brian - the truck driver delivering the cheese. He is a local and could tell stories from “way back”. Great stopover.

We had a wonderful stop over. Their cakes were freshly baked and delicious - not too sweet for our palates. Their coffee is one of the best we had around Bega Valley Shire. We were impressed! We really did enjoy our food and coffee while sitting outside looking into their vast green scenery. The only reason we gave them a 4 stars rating is, the cheese factory tour still isn’t running. However, entry to their little museum upstairs is free. The gift shop upstairs is a must to browse for gift ideas. They have a variety of unique items and colourful puns which will surely will make you smile and giggle. We definitely recommend this place 10/10 for a quick stop over, a bite and to unwind.
Jaye — Google review
It is a good stop point wherever you go. It is not a massive museum or well organised display centre. So do not set your expectations high as it is a free entry.
Just one disappointment was that the selection of products sold at the cafe wasn't much different from any supermarket and they aren't any cheaper. One of the cheeses I really liked but not sold in any supermarket was Heritage Vintage Reserve Cheddar. I would definitely visit this Heritage centre to buy this cheese.
Hewitt Kwon — Google review
We were able to have a small taste of different cheeses. We enjoyed the serve of scones with jam and cream. I was pleased to see the painted cow that I remembered from a holiday there years ago. It was clean and comfortable.
Raelene O'Flaherty — Google review
Not as great for the family as you might hope:
- The cheese tasting is exactly what you would find in the local supermarket including super slices of all things. I guess I expected something more gourmet, however this is the exact full range that Bega makes.
- You aren't able to view the factory or any sort of cheese making at all. So it's practical educational value is limited. There's even a sign that says "No factory tours"
- Upstairs is the heritage component which is a collection of antique memorabilia relating to farming and cheese making which is not interactive or presented in a very interesting way. In fact it says do not touch.
- The one interactive exhibit, a cow that presumably moos or something when a button was pressed was broken
- The toilets are decent and had change tables
- The food was fairly good. My order was mixed up and after checking on it they did rectify.
- The coffee was mediocre
Karl Burdack — Google review
Finally ticked this one off my list. Called in today and loved it. If you like Bega cheese, you'll love seeing and reading the history behind its early days.
Staff are lovely and there's a great gift shop upstairs. Make sure to check it out.

Excellent history regarding the milk and cheese industry. Fantastic gift shop upstairs. Ground level is the information centre with lots of brochures. The Cafe offers a variety if foods, served quickly, along with cheese tasting. The quiche with salad was delicious. The Egg and bacon roll, double bacon, double egg, amazing. Spent almost 2 hours. Free entry to museum.

I love cheese from Bega, so tasty 😋, my first taste from Bega is the milk 🥛 that comes to Canberra in the 1960s, at school.
My family is going there when we are in Bega, the Bega Cheese 🧀 Heritage Centre. This is not the first time we were there before ten years ago.
The Bega Cheese Factory 🏭 is over 124 years old.
We come before closing hours, so we get some gifts 🎁 cheeses 🧀.
They have amazing cakes and cupcakes 🧁, coffee ☕️ 😋 or tea 🍵 😋, with 🧀 cheese snacks and cold drinks. 🥶
Come and see 👀 the gifts 🎁 that are so amazing 👏, for you, family's and friends.
Upstairs, there is a museum, a history of Bega Cheese Heritage Centre, and Bega.
The Bega name is derived from the local Aboriginal word meaning "big campaign ground." Another claim is that the word "bika " in local Aboriginal language, one of the Yuin language meaning "beautiful. "
The first European to come near was George Bass (30 January 1771-5 February 1803 last seen before living the Port Jackson, age 32),in December 1797 as part of his broader explanation 😳 of the Australian coast 😳.
William Tarlinton was the first European arriving on foot and exploring this area in 1829.
He returned in the early 1830s and settled there and started a cattle farm.
Around the same time, the Imlay brothers came, who also began farming their names, has been preserved in the form of Mount Imlay National Park.
The town of Bega itself was laid out and gazetted in December 1851. The region received a further boost 😳 in the late 1870s when gold was discovered in the Bermagui area 😀.
In 1882, the Municipality of Bega was created. Before the 20th century, come the Bega Dairy Cooperative Limited was set up in 1899.

The Bega Cheese Factory in New South Wales stands as a remarkable testament to Australian history and culinary heritage. Spanning an impressive 124 years, this iconic establishment not only showcases the time-honored tradition of cheese-making but also invites visitors into a journey through Australia's rich dairy industry. Its longevity and sustained quality make it a must-visit destination for both cheese aficionados and history enthusiasts alike.

We had no idea of the history (drought and famine that triggered this amazing engineering feat) !
The short film was really good and helped us understand all about the hydro power and water systems across the snowy region. Our kids learnt so much.

Fantastic and informative place to learn about the original Snowy Scheme. So much information and history from the original snowy scheme. You can spend hours and hours looking and reading about the snowy hydro scheme, the workers and locations that had to work in. The staff working there are super nice and helpful answering all questions. Will definitely be back as I didn’t spend enough time there the first time. Well worth the visit especially if travelling into Cooma.

Great place to learn about one of our biggest engineering marvels. They have two talks one is a 1975 video and the other is a presentation with some fly overs and a more modern video. Cafe has great coffee. And a selection of warm food like sausage roll, pie, quiche and then sandwiches and other snacks. Great cakes.

I never imagine mankind is able to do this. Amaze with the megamoth project benefiting the community with green clean energy for life! Congratulations to all especially the masterminds and designers of this remarkable contribution. I love the video presentation. It is the best way to describe the creation. To the kind gentlemen who introduced us to the video presentation, I appreciate it very much. It just gave us a deeper understanding of the 360 angle. Souvenir shop ranges from affordable to premium. Even the souvenirs came with more information of the Snowy Hydro. Good to bring back home. All the success on Snowy 2.0. I'll be back here with grandkids after Snowy 2.0 completed. I'm so glad i stopped by at Snowy Hydro Centre on my way back to Sydney. You get immersed in the history of how the Grand Snowy hydro projects came to life and the great people behind it.
I was greeted by this lovely lady (she reminds me of this sweet character 'Holly Flax' from the show The Office) who gave me a mini tour and put a short movie in their Immersive theatre about the Snowy project.
Overall I loved it and would highly recommend a visit if you are a Science/Engineering/History enthusiast.
Free Entry.

It felt like there was a tonne of information, yet I still don't know that much? Perhaps way too much information on meaningless or minute details and nowhere near enough information on the bigger things
There is a really intricate display of the tunnel boring machine, but absolutely no information about it, or what parts are what. If my fiance wasn't with me i wouldn't have know what it was. Also the TV that shows the pumps in live action probably also requires a lot more information to show visitors how to interpret the information more accurately
In saying that, it's free so can't complain too much 🤷♀️

A delightful Christmas shop with so many special items. If you need inspiration or just a few new shiny items for your tree this is the place to be. Be ready to feel like Christmas has already started.
Melissa Westley — Google review
Lots and lots and lots of xmas decorations but no surprise because they're called xmas barn! Haha.
Prices are on the expensive side but I think that's expected given it is a specialty store. If you are after cheap standard looking decorations, you're betting off going to kmart or big W. However, if you're looking for something more unique, this is the place to go. They have a lot of glass figurines and baubles (which silly me didn't take photos of) -prices range from $10 for $20 for a large baubles. Candles are $30 and up. Limited glassware, mostly $20 and up. Metal signs are $25.
They have a loot of coca cola metal signs and Disney xmas figurines. Didn't see prices unfortunatelt.

My family and I have been visiting this shop for years. But today’s visit was so disappointing. The prices have increased dramatically, and out of the four items I purchased, two have broken/come apart. The owners definitely were not their usual happy and welcoming selves and the other staff looked stressed and unhappy. Think it might to time to change tradition and stay in Canberra and enjoy the beautiful shops here.

Our long standing tradition is to visit the Bredbo Christmas barn on the way back from the snow. Never fails to lift the spirits and reawaken the childhood joy of Christmas. Their selections from around the world are just eye popping, sumptuous and glorious. They're even divided into colours and categories across a huge shop. Treat yourself if you're in the area 😊🌲

This doesn't deserve a star at all. If you don't like children don't open a Christmas store. My children were so excited and pick their special Christmas decoration to add to the tree this year, we were ready to pay but were told by a lady 'if you break it you buy it'. We were being watched the whole time we were there, we left feeling unwelcomed. My little one said, 'its Christmas, you should be nice to everyone'.... Should learn from the little ones....

I was delighted to finally be able to stop by this place on our way through to Canberra. But I now wish I had not bothered.
While the displays and selection of ornaments were lovely to see. I was full of anxiety after a staff member forced a basket on me as my children were picking out their individual ornaments and then asked my son to not swing his chosen ornament around.
I explained to my kids on entry that they should look and not touch but they did get a little excited as they were surrounded by christmas.
Like others I felt like I was being watched while walking around the store and did not feel very welcome.
I can only guess this was due to having my kids with me.
I would advise anyone to leave your kids behind if you would like to visit this place and I will not be stopping by this place next time as I have felt more welcome in David Jones.

What a fantastic range of Christmas ornaments and items to literally 'deck the halls'! bought a lot of different things - garlands, ornaments, items to place on bookshelves, and so.much.more!! over a dozen alcoves to explore, with some exclusively designed around a colour theme. Lots of decorated trees as well to provide ideas! and then after, go visit the Queen B Cafe for coffee/lunch ....
What a delight to discover this gem of a cafe two blocks down from the Christmas Barn at Bredbo (on the highway on the Cooma side with ample parking). We had lunch there following our shopping trip to the Barn and discovered that not only did it provide a wide range of choices for lunch plus yummy cakes/slices for afters, but also contains vintage gifts which my friend and I happily browsed while waiting for our lunch. Our toasted ham salad sandwich was generous in the fillings and we happily shared that and a delicious vanilla slice. Coffee was served in beautiful, old-fashioned, extra large cups. We each found something to buy from the vintage gifts as well! A lovely atmosphere, highly recommended!

Incredible Christmas barn located in the small country town of Bredbo!
The store itself has an incredible range of Christmas products with a big focus on ornaments. The store itself is just an incredible experience with trees and decorations setup throughout the barn. There is an incredible range here, so be warned when it’s busy space for standing and movement is at a premium!
Price is generally on the higher side but this is a shop focusing on quality, not cheap imported garbage.
Forewarning - there is a break it you bought it policy so keep your children close!!!

Very disappointing experience I cannot endorse this venue as dog friendly. While chatting with other guests, the venue’s manager approached our group from behind and surprised our german shepherd, who briefly attempted to lunge at her. Max was leashed, fully secured and we corrected the behaviour immediately. Granted, he is a big dog (like many others at the venue I would note), but equally we are experienced dog owners, who have trained him extensively and take him regularly to public venues without incident. There was no harm or adverse outcome from the interaction, indeed several guests at the venue were speaking with us about Max at the time and continued petting him. There was no pattern of repeated lunging behaviour either, this was literally a single interaction lasting 2 seconds with a dog who was surprised.
The manager returned to our table shortly after and demanded that we remove the dog, stating that he was a danger to children (!!) and she had to protect her business reputation. I daresay this would be news to all the kids who play with our dog at the park.
Frankly the reaction was wholly disproportionate to the circumstances and no way in keeping with a “dog friendly” venue. Afternoon ruined unecessarily by small-minded management where the only injury was to personal pride. Max is a loving and playful dog and this simply was not fair.
I hope this message will encourage management to behave more responsibly and with greater consideration towards dog owners in the future. It is a lovely venue and we had been really looking forward to our meal and beer tasting.
(For transparency the manager did refund us without objection but we obviously wanted to stay and enjoy the afternoon)

New owners have arrived in January 2018, and are young, attentive and very hospitable - I had a great time. It is at the end of a fair bit of dirt road (depending on which way you come) but was definitely worth the drive. It even has a carpeted kids' room with a massive chalkboard for the young ones to draw, or chill on mats and read some books or play with toys.

Modest ski/snow park with lessons & an alpine slide, plus biking & camping in the summer.
Took the kids up on a Monday morning 9am. Had the best weather. Kids were smiles for hours (6 and 5 year old). Tobogganing was the best. Found the snow way too hard to build a snowman or have a snow ball fight. Really affordable for families and much cheaper than the snow fields. Nice picnic areas as well

We visited Corin Forest for two days (1-2 July) during the school holiday. The snow play session on the first day went well.
On the second day, we enrolled our 9-year-old daughter in a ski lesson for kids. The first hour of the 3-hour class was spent getting all the necessary equipment, as mentioned on their website. However, we were disappointed with the small and crowded snow field. In the 2-hour class, my daughter only had the opportunity to ski down a mild slope twice. To make matters worse, despite the class being scheduled to end at 1:30pm, my daughter was asked to pick up her gear and wait at the exit/entrance area starting from 1:10pm. This resulted in a loss of 20 minutes of class time. It seems that the place is overbooked beyond its capacity, both in terms of the available ski site and staff capacity.
We expressed our concerns to the ski school manager, who assured us that our feedback would be taken into consideration. They also offered us three complimentary drinks in an attempt to appease us, which we appreciated. However, considering the time, money, and effort spent on traveling from Sydney to Canberra for the ski lesson, I would advise others to carefully consider their decision before doing the same.

Our experience at Corin Forest was amazing. We went there to delight my nephew, but even us adults enjoyed the Alpine Slide. We also dine in their onsite cafe and ordered some pizza, which was delicious. The only reason I rated it 4 stars is due to their online booking process. It's a bit complex to purchase a ticket, and I hope they could simplify the process.

Snow pants, jackets and boots available for hire. Rates are fair for the service.
Small Cafe has a limited menu of food and beverages. However there is a beautiful picnic area next to a small pond to enjoy your food.
Friendly and helpful staff!

Very small but perfect for children. All staff are good and friendly. All of them are very patience with children. Very good experience and my children said that they will 100% go there again. Just a bit confusion when I was booking through their website.

A day trip from Canberra approx 50 mins drive, the resort was closed at the time of my visit, but what I did see was some light snow and the forest looked amazing. My purpose for going was to drive, not to see snow, so that was a bonus.

Came up here for a ski school for adults session on a Saturday afternoon, and it was good fun.
There were no lines at the ticket booths, so we didn’t even notice they were there. It took less than 5 minutes to provide the booking number to get the wristbands. Boots and skis took a bit longer to be sorted which is normal.
The young staff we dealt with throughout the afternoon were all friendly and helpful. Masks were mandatory inside but were optional on the ski field.
GSM coverage stopped about 10 minutes before arriving to the resort. It’s best have a printout of the booking or a screenshot showing the booking number and barcode. All roads were open and no chains required. Ample parking.
We had a bit of snow, then a light rain but overall it was a fun experience. Just wish the ski field was bigger. Will come back.

Very much fit for purpose. Great for kids, snow play and an introduction to snow a short drive from Canberra. We took our 7 year old grandson for his first visit to see snow and he loved it. The operational aspects are well coordinated and the staff know their roles, interacting well with children (& adults) making for a good customer service experience. There is a small ski slope separate from the kids area for those wanting to put in a few turns. I highly recommend as a bit of fun or to introduce kids to the snow without the maddening crowds and exorbitant prices of the ski fields.

A good hour and a bit of fun. The cafe is nice and the pizzas are tasty. The manufactured snow is big enough for about 20 people to toboggan and make snow men. An hour is though time to do all of that. It is about 30 minutes drive from town.
Robert Steers — Google review
Great during the winter months as they have a slope and play area and also a snow boarding area. You can rent snow clothes and boots and even taboggans and other equipment. Prices are very reasonable and when you are done you can go into the building and have something to eat and sit be the roaring fireplace.
Perfect place to visit with kids because you’re guaranteed a snow experience without the unpredictable winter weather.
Great fun for all ages

Highly recommend.
All of the staff went out of their way to help us to have a great experience at Corin Forest. Absolute glowing praise for all the staff we encountered. I took my four children for a day of lessons and all our hiccups were ironed out for us with little fuss.
I received advice and patience with my personal skis, well above and beyond what they were required to help with. My children's gear was fitted with care, a smile and friendly chat.
Our experience with teaching staff and staff on the slope was fantastic too and again, they went above and beyond to provide a memorable experience, offering advice and assistance at every turn, even when it was above their responsibility.
The ticketing staff happily swapped my youngest two over to a first time lesson on short notice from a beginner lesson - but be advised they can probably only do this if there is space. No fuss. Super impressed.
In the cafe, the buzzers weren't working and our coffees went cold before we got them. When we came up to get them, the staff member knew they had been there too long, and even though there was quite a queue, replaced them with a smile.
The areas were all clean and there was enough space to have some fun. I loved that we didn't have to drive all the way to the snowies and brave huge crowds for a snow experience.
Prices were reasonable and affordable.
A half day was enough for us and the early start was a good way to get a quiet run and maximise the experience with even less stress.
Can't recommend this place highly enough. It's hard to find good service but every one of the staff here should be commended on their willingness to go out of their way to help make it a really memorable experience.
My only feedback is that the pizza situation could be better. Having to just wait for the right pizza to show up and not being able to order what you want makes it tricky. Again, the staff member in the kitchen had a quick word to the cook and got them to do an order for us which saved the day. What a great team at Corin Forest.
Just amazed. I will recommend to all my friends and family and look forward to coming back soon.
For more advanced skiers it may not be suitable but for beginners it's a fantastic place to go, close to Canberra.

We spent the day at Corin Forest during the Winter School holidays. Snow pants, jackets, and boots are available for hire. The rates are fair for the service. Great snow slope for first-timers and beginners. Ample parking is a short walk from the slopes and rental place. Highly recommended for first-time kids snow experience.

Easy to get to from Canberra, good facilities and plenty of snow when we went. Very hassle free compared to going to the snow fields. Small hill for skiing and snowboarding as well as another hill for toboggans. Overall a great day out the drive there is also beautiful.

The alpine slide was really good. Made me feel like a kid again ahahahah. It costed 28 dollars for an hour i think. Totally worth it.

A wonderful family day spent at this understated but delightful resort in mountainous bushland. We took the 2 year to have her first experience of snow. She loved throwing snow balls, creating a snow man and hurtling down the safe slop in a toboggan with a parent on board as well. Afterwards we sat by the fire and enjoyed hot chocolate. The 2 year old wailed that she didn’t want to leave at the end of the day.

Great place if your just taking the kids to the snow. Plenty of room to play and build snowmen. The toboggans are awesome fun. Snow shoes are ideal, regular clothes will get wet so either bring something to change into afterwards or just hire the snow gear if you want to be 100% comfortable. Snow gloves are essential and will give you the best experience. There’s a picnic area for lunch along the creek. Like a mini Thredo really without the price tag. A nice 45 minute drive outside Canberra but definitely worth it. I recommend the experience especially with kids!! Brilliant!!

Fantastic collection of the Snowy Scheme, very different to the Cooma snowy discovery centre. This museum has more original and dated artefacts from the scheme and workers including buildings, machinery, tools, stories and the place is ran by volunteers and locals. Definitely worth visiting and supporting the museum in Adaminaby.

Very disappointed, phoned the contact as we'd arrived out of opening hours, lady not happy at opening for the two of us but said she'd be about 10 minutes. 25 minutes later still no show! The sooner these people wake up to the fact that tourists travel 7 days a week and not just on Saturday or Sunday the better. Oh and they missed out on what would have been a generous donation.

Located in the heart of Jindabyne, Lake Jindabyne Hotel Motel is a popular choice for visitors to the Snowy Mountains region. The motel offers modest rooms with beautiful lake views and provides amenities such as WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and air conditioning. Guests can enjoy dining at the casual bistro and lounge bar or unwind at the nightclub. For those seeking adventure, mountain biking in the Snowy Mountains is a thrilling option.
Stayed after riding our mtbs from Thredbo along the valley trail.
Great Motel. Rooms were light and comfy with a great view of the lake. The bathroom seemed newly renovated and the shower was excellent. King size bed was very comfortable. Dinner at the pub was great. Then the complementary hot breakfast in the morning was awesome. My kind of motel.

Stayed here last year and was just as happy with my stay then as I am now.
Staff are very friendly, and when we had an issue with our key not working they came and sorted it out very fast. Room was clean, bed was comfy, air condition worked brilliantly.
We ate dinner at the attached pub and it was lovely. Large serving size and delicious.
Great view from the pub and the room of the lake. Absolutely recommend staying here if you're in the area.
Nicola Barrett — Google review
Stayed here a few times for work, found it to be great . Large size rooms with big comfy beds with a great view over the lake. Cool little bar with great bar meals and excellent stuff. But the best part about this place has always been the buffet breakfast, huge selection of everything you want and more.
Troy Shields — Google review
The room was reasonable. The mattress and over sized pillows were ok but did not help with sleep. The air conditioner did work initially but we did feel that it wasn’t quite work late in the night. So all in all broken sleep. It wasn’t helped by the very late night pub music and guests… it is great if you want to drink at the pub and hit the bed at the motel. If you are planning other activities in the morning .. you will have trouble getting a sound sleep.
Breakfast was really good within the room price. The tech that allows access to the room is automated and works really well. Location is really good… car parking is easy.
All in all 3/5

Worst experience at a pub/bistro. Would not recommend
Received not one but two meals with undercooked chicken. Chef and manager explained it off as being “cooked to the standard”. It was pink and had a glossy and soft texture and wouldn’t tear apart. Undercooked. They did provide a minor compensation but definitely not enough. Poor customer service from the chef and manager who did not want to acknowledge the fact they provided 2 bad meals.
Whole experience left me in a bad mood and with a messed up stomach.

Didn’t stay here but had lunch there today.I know it’s low season. No excuse for terrible food $20 for a burger and steak sandwich. Steak was raw and cold. Surely on a hamburger you could spare a bit more salad. The chips were cold. lemon lime and bitters was the worst we’ve had. What a rip off. So disappointed in the whole experience

Well worth the drive from Canberra for the perfectly cooked meals. My vegetables were aldentè and dripped with a hint-of-garlic butter sauce. It perfectly complimented the med-rare 300 grams Scotch fillet that was 2 cm thick and so tender.
My friend was enamoured with the homemade Tartare sauce that accompanied her beer battered fish.
A great view of East Jindabyne and the lake which was a sapphire blue under the autumn sunshine.

We enjoyed our stay at Jindabyne Hotel, and the room was very clean and tidy. The location is very good, you have to go for morning and evening walks beside the lake Jindabyne, all the restaurants are at a walking distance, make sure you choose the free breakfast option if it's available, totally worth it, warm and fresh breakfast, satff was very friendly.

Stunning location looking across the lake with access for swimming. Very friendly staff & a cooked breakfast is included. Rooms are renovated & comfortable but VERY noisy - from neighbours, to bar attendees & pool players, to the builders currently on site constructing a new block of rooms (January '24). Bring ear plugs, patience & a sense of humour.

Roomy restaurant which gives the place a quiet feeling. It is family friendly in the way of food and seating but there isn't any kids area or activities.

(Just reviewing the bar/restaurant, not accommodation)
Meh.
There’s a reason why everyone else is eating across the road at the Banjo Paterson hotel..
The atmosphere at this place is absent, the food is expensive for what it is & it has the widest selection of extremely average beers I’ve ever seen.
One great thing is the enormous selection of sauces for the kids to choose from, and the complete absence of other punters means that there isn’t much of a line up.
Nice view though

We were deceived with false advertising and pictures that do not show the reality for me. They spoiled my vacation for me and my family, which I had arranged for earlier. The room that was given to me, (room number 1), it was like a room on a work site, or construction site as the hotel is under renovation, there is dust and equipment around it, and work cars occupy most of the parking lots. For parking, it was not a suitable hotel for my left and the way the reception staff dealt with my complaint was not good at all, showing a lack of respect for customers. Summary: It is impossible for me to recommend or think about this hotel, even if it was free.

Great views, friendly bar staff and cold beers. Bistro not so great. Waited 1.5 hours for a couple of kids meals and schnitzels. Not bad food, but hot salad with a frozen pressed schnity not really worth the wait.

Disappointed to see prices are so much more expensive than others in the area. We book early to get decent rooms/prices, but unfortunately won’t be staying at Lake Jindy Hotel because it’s unaffordable.
For a group booking with similar hotels (and star rating) in Jindabyne, Lake Jindy Hotel is well over $1,000 more expensive for identical dates - it’s no wonder you can still find a spot available later in the season.
We have stayed here previously, and while the rooms were adequate, comfortable, and mostly quiet, It’s still a 3-Star hotel and the prices being asked aren’t justified. I would look elsewhere.
Nestled in a stunning ridgetop location between Jindabyne and Thredbo Resort, Wildbrumby Schnapps Distillery is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the area. The Stillhouse cafe offers indoor seating and outdoor tables with views of sculpture gardens and organic raspberry fields, making it an ideal spot to relax after a summer bushwalk in the Snowies. The distillery provides guided tours where visitors can learn about the process of crafting their renowned schnapps and gin.
Wonderful experience. The food was delicious (I had the soup of the day and my husband had the sausages) and was preceded by a schnapps tasting. OMG I never imagined schnapps could be so amazing. The apple strudel was fine but not quite as good as my grandmother's (could be a bit flakier and use a smidge more cinnamon). If you get there, try the butterscotch or sour apple schnapps...both are amazing. The setting is so green and tranquil. Wonderful!

Great food and the service was impeccable. Free taste testing (of 10 flavours!!!) will leave you wanting to buy them out of their schnapps or gin. Having been in the hospitality industry for over 15 years, I was very, very impressed by the overall quality of everything. The scenery is amazing and we had a lovely walk around the property, which had alpacas and some quirky art. A MUST see if coming to the area.

Enjoyed an early dinner here about a month ago. Food was good. I enjoyed the Austrian food selections. Although the menu is small I think most people can find something they’d like. I felt that service was a little slow in just coming to ask us if we’d like a drink. I don’t know about you but if a go to a distillery I think it’s fairly obvious that I’m thirsty. We booked over the phone and arrived 10mins early and were told our table wasn’t ready. When a table became available it was really small which was disappointing. Additionally we were seated in a walkway with one seat being below a bookcase making standing slightly awkward. I’ve put pictures below for reference. The schnapps was good. The beer was good. It would’ve been nice to be able to sit somewhere and be able to relax without feeling like food etc would fall off the tiny table or worry about people brushing past constantly.

I arrived before opening time and was invited to enter the shop and a restaurant by a very kind staff member. They have clean and decent toilet .
I opted to have a coffee and linzer torte and that was superb cake and coffee experience!
I purchased few bottles of schnapps and again, professional and very kind staff member took the box to my car. I took heaps of photos inside an interesting restaurant and outside. A cheery on the cake was a smoked trout I purchased; it was so delicious my guest and I devoured it just with bread and of course schnapps when I arrived home. Schnapps is very easy to drink with fruity aroma and soft taste. Sour apple liqueur is wonderful😊I can only recommend the place for quality products and wonderful service. Will go back!

What a DREAM COME TRUE!!!!!!!
Honestly the best day EVER! Linda was super easy to communicate with, very lovely lady!
Linda, Nev & Freir were outstanding, all their knowledge, support and kindness could not have been faulted. They have put in so much hard work to ensure the rides are safe, fun and super enjoyable. The horses had an amazing connection with their owners and you can see how well they are looked after.
Along the ride, we were provided with abit of history of the area as well as some interesting information about the horses that were selected for us. The horses were fantastic, so kind, humorous and just beautiful souled.
We enjoyed every second of it and will be back again! Truly the best day ever!!!!!! <3

This place is simply the best. To start with the safety and demonstration before you ride is informative and fun. You are not just given a horse to ride you're given a loved horse who is so well trained and looked after that you will have the best horse ridding experience. I rode Curley and before I got on him I was given a background story of him being an orphaned part clydesdale/thoroughbread, 9 years old bay and was about to be transitioned from an advanced rider to join the intermediate rider in the line of the trail ride. He was beautiful. We rode out in a group of about 11 including 4 team. One of the guides was Freya and we hit it off like we were old mates. She was so much fun and told me of the solo ride we could do to the top of the ridge. So.... after we rode the 1.5 hour trail with the team we had a 30min rest and I jumped straight back into the saddle on Curley and with Freya and Mon they took me on the best horse riding experience I could have wished for. These horses are trained so well they respond with the softest hand and leg aids and know the terrain so well they just take you on an adventure. Freya and Mon were simply the best guides who are top horse riders! I could not recommend this place more highly. Thank you Team and Curly for making my day/month/year! Cheers Stephen

Stayed in a nearby town, but the ski village itself is perfect for the kids! The drive in was a little scary at it was heavily snowing but if you went at a reasonable speed it was perfectly fine. A great adventure and first time experience for my son at the snow!

This ski resort has been upgraded (2023) after big damage from a bushfire (2019).
I love this ski resort because it suitable to bring kids. New facilities are more comfortable and suit us. A lot of parking lots available, new cafe, new toilet, short distance from parking to the ski entrance. I love magic carpet that is useful for toboggan play. So convenient. Pay $25 to play toboggan and u get 1 toboggan to use here. No outside toboggan allowed
I hope Selwyn Snow Resort could provide more table at outside. I could see there are a lot more space outside. It’s good to have more table. It’s really convenient

Great place for the kids with friendly staff. My kids (10 and 8) had their first snowboarding lesson today and the instructor made it fun for them. After 2 hours we had the kids up with us in the chairlift and going down one if the main runs.
If you're thinking about tobogganing here maybe consider the snow tube instead which is $35 for ten rides which can be shared.
I will definitely come back here again before taking the kids to a bigger mountain

Headed up for ski lessons booked in with 3 hours travel there (and 3 hours back of travel) with an overnight motel stay aswell. Tried to confirm due to lack of snow prior to our lessons via multiple avenues; contacting via website, email and social media. Instagram enquiry was viewed the day before our lesson but not replied to.
No phone contact is enabled either which we could not fathom how a business could think this was a acceptable. Turned up and everything was cancelled. Upon arrival there was others leaving with kids in their cars, frustrated at also having travelled so far without communication. The staff were defensive and unhelpful. No compensation was offered besides some snacks and outlining that we can get a refund or reschedule our lesson; as if it was a form of compensation to not charge us for something we didn’t receive.

It's a very scenic area and much less crowded than the other resorts. Unfortunately their snow is less reliable at the lower altitude but it's certainly well visiting when they're open. At my age I now only do X country skiing now but had a fantastic time skiing along the road to Cabramurra after a 20cm snow fall.

Great snow resort, great and friendly and helpful staff. Good snow conditions and facilities. Very less people comparing to other snow resorts, no queues at the lifts. Very affordable price and good value. Recommended!
Jin Chen — Google review
Unfortunately, there was very little snow on day 1 of our 3 day ski holiday. We paid a little over $1000 for lift tickets for our family of 4 in March, but spent most of the day walking up the mountain ourselves to ride down the only half decent slope there was. The only lift open was for a short little slope that took about 30 seconds from top to bottom.
I know it’s not the resorts fault that there was no snow and I asked if I could get a credit for next season. The lady was perfectly polite in saying that all she could offer was to have our dates for our lift passes moved to the following week. This, of course is completely impractical as accomodation has been paid for, gear hire has already been paid for, time off work has to be arranged and kids go back to school.
My advice to anyone planning a ski trip here is to never buy lift passes till they know what conditions are like.

We had a blast at Selwyn and Luke M. was amazing!
I took a lesson to improve my snowboarding and Luke M. from Selwyn did a really great job teaching what I am supposed to learn. After the lesson, I felt like my skill was amped to intermediate level with just short amount of time.
Luke is such a cool, knowledgeable, and approachable instructor. He answered all my questions and he even challenged me to do a jump (my first jump) which I successfully executed (didn’t fall!).
I would give 5 stars for Luke M.!
For the resort, I was impressed how convenient everything were. The parking is huge and centre building just easy with all stuff there (rentals, lesson, and cafe). The staff were very friendly and appreciated their response all my newbie questions (like where are the toboggan area, where to snow play, where the lessons meet up etc.)
My kiddo loved the toboggan area. She likes to ride the magic carpet going up to the top for the toboggan. The resort also provide the toboggan so it is not necessary to hire. Note that there is a fee to use it but we think its worth it.
The prices of the food and beverages are reasonable. Its definitely not a like a ‘theme park’ prices like the others.
I just hope that this resort would get a lot of snow soon. We would definitely come back.
The slope of the resort is very beginner friendly and the vibe of other skiers/snowboarders were all good. Its not so intimidating as the other resorts.

This review is for everyone who has been trying to find up to date info about the newly opened facilities. Here is the info you need:
The resort is easy to get to, the parking is huge and well organised. There are a lot of disabled spots about 20m from the front door, and the rest of the car parks are between 30m and 100m from the door roughly. Near enough to grab something you left behind.
The facilities are mostly L shaped. The first area you enter has all the ski and clothing hire. The lines weren't great, weren't the worst, but if you can, do yourself a favour and hire your gear in Cooma before you arrive. Cheaper and no queue. Note you don't get toboggans from this hire area.
The further side of the L has good toilets which never had a queue during our visit, and had warm water for washing hands. Nice! Also gender neutral and accessible toilets.
There is food and drink for sale, it's very much a canteen style place, imagine the set and offerings up at most large places like a theme park. Check out my photos for a record of the menu and prices. The food isn't great, it's pre made burgers, chips, pies, hot dogs etc. I think sandwiches are the most healthy option. Pretty expensive but also super convenient for a warm bite to eat. Eg burger was $15, hot dog $10.
There's also a bar/ cafe with a coffee machine and a good range of milks.
I wish they had water refill stations but I didn't see any, I did figure out you need to ask the bar/ cafe staff for a bottle of tap water (glass cafe style) if you need more water. The canteen staff won't give you a top up.
There are lots of benches to eat at both inside and out though many many people left their stuff on the tables unattended all day, you might need to make room to eat.
There is one bank of lockers for hire, $10 or $15 per day depending on the size. See photo.
I can't speak to the ski/ snowboarding or lifts, but the tobogganing was great. It's situated past the main facilities building, over to the left looking outwards. You use your card (which you get when you enter) to scan into the area where you can collect a toboggan. They have a long travelator from the bottom of the hill up to the top so you don't have to climb it! So good. The ride down is fun too, though definately less bumpy in the morning.
There's loads of spaces around the slopes you can explore to build a snowman etc.
Final note, I saw there was mentions online of a taboggan fast run, and possibly also an ice skating rink etc. These things aren't there, or certainly weren't there in early July 2023.
Overall, amazing time, very fun, great for kids!
Fingers crossed they will update their website with all this info soon!

Great ski resort for beginner and families with kids. This review is for someone who want to discover a new place for skiing.
New facilities with good food, affordable price. We really enjoy our time playing with snow and skiing here.
However, someone who drive from Selwyn to Canberra should be careful with the shortest road on Google Map to Canberra. The road is underconstruction so the surface was so terrible. Try to search another way to come back to Canberra by getting to Monaro Highway. We nearly got stuck in Boboyan Road, and really heard to get out of this terrible road in dark night. We felt so scared that we might stay whole night in dark and cold. So I truly recommend people who want to go to Selwyn, please come there by Monaro Highway although this road will a bit longer than Boboyan Road.

DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING ONLINE… until you arrive and see what condition the snow is in. This will save you stress, frustration, loss of money and an argument with management that is incapable of using common sense and has zero empathy.
** My review wouldn't have been so blunt if management listened to their customers. Even the reply below from Selwyn is heartless and empty. Sorry, but not sorry enough to fix the wrong they have done. They are happy to take money from. people and keep it. If they were genuinely apologetic, a credit or refund would be offered to those who booked online in advance but didn't receive what was offered in the descriptions and images. They did not change the toboggan description. Even today it still says "150 metre snow carpet for effortless laps of fun" . That's a lie. You had to walk back up the new hill. Again, if free or discounted I wouldn't have complained and accepted the declining snow and effort made by Selwyn. But every person paid full price for a below par product. And most we complaining amungst ourselves. I could hear the poor staff copping the verbal abuse. Just wrong on all levels. I hope you are listening Blyton Group or else no one will be back next year. **
On the day you arrive check if the snow cover has deteriorated to either patches of dirt, mud, slush. Check how many Ski lifts are running. Check the Toboggan slope isn't full on dangerous holes. If you have pre-booked tickets online before you arrive, beware. The management team treat you with no respect. Simply stating their terms and conditions show “no refund”. Selwyn this is wrong. A manager is there to manage situations. Not to just read policy and walk away. Selwyn is great for beginners when it has snowed, but it is managed extremely bad when there is not enough snow. Selwyn, you should offer a refund or credit when the product you are offering doesn’t match what you have sold.
Everyone, hold off booking lift tickets & toboggan tickets until you arrive on the day and see if there is enough snow to actually ski or toboggan. And to see how many lifts are actually running. There is no rush to purchase lift passes or toboggan tickets. These do not sell out. So there is no benefit to pre-booking online before you arrive.
The toboggan slope was unsafe and not usable with large holes all the way down but management disagreed. When it was moved to another area which had snow cover, is was shorter and the slope was too flat to slide all the way to the end. Also, no magic carpet to take you up the hill. I have no complaints if that was free. But management still thought it was fair to charge full price of $25 to use this area. Honestly, it is was no different to taking candy from a baby. Shame on you Selwyn. Won’t be back. Next year off to Perisher for free tobogganing on a hill you can slide down without using your hands or becoming injured sliding into large holes.
If you would like Selwyn's management to change, please write a review. No one can control the weather. So i do feel for Selwyn, that it hasn't snowed. But this is not an excuse to take advantage of you and me. They only might consider to do better for next year if they hear from everyone who felt ripped off and taken advantage of.
Reginald Vasques — Google review
Took my boys up in the school holidays for some tobagganing. Sadly toboggan slope didn't meet our expectations. On the positive, staff were friendly, picking up passes very simple, parking well laid out, and we built a snowman and had a good snow fight. Good day overall 😊

Yeah great lookout bitumen road and parking with a super strong platform to stand on.
Great description of the ridges and mountains etc.
unfortunately Mount Kosciusko is hidden.
There are toilets and plenty of parking.
The best lookout along the alpine way.
Petes Life — Google review
What a majestic view. This location puts the Alpine region in a view unique to the Victorian side of NSW snow country. The visible landmarks are highlighted on a map at the elevated lookout. Casting your eye upon Mt Townsend, once mistaken for Australia's highest Peak. Kosciuszko is out of view yet so close. A sealed thin road takes you to the car park where public toilets and the lookout stand. A clear day will result in spectacular photos. Traffic on this road for the inexperienced can be problematic so extra caution is advised and sticking to, or below the posted speed limit (and your side of the Alpine road) is strongly advised. Don't expect phone reception till closer to Kancoben. Wet cold days are likely ro be challenging so come prepared the Alpine roads are thin so caution is essential as you WILL be confronted with vehicles towing a carravan thinking 'they should turn back if they could'. This is not an ideal place in winter while very easy to access for wheel chair persons or elderly. The walk to the look out is all of a 'Domestic letterbox trip', under 50 meters. Weather permitting, you will be there spellbound for 60 minutes or more.

Now this is worthy of stopping (unlike Pilots Lookout). Beautiful view with toilets, a picnic table and plenty of parking. Bit of an information sign as well to give you some history of the place.

Relax on the way. Toilet available. Good parking space. 200m away from road. First glimpse of snow if you are from Vic side.

If there is a better view in Australia I'm yet to find it. I've never reviewed a lookout before but this place was worth it. It was an emotional experience. If you're driving the Alpine Way and don't stop here for a few minutes you are doing yourself a disservice.

Great place to stop and take in the views of snowy mountains area and surrounding. Nice open deck extends out for a perfect view. There are public toilets and a table to have some food but too many flies and too hot to sit outside. Cool spot to stretch your legs on a windy road if you are driving or riding.
Ameer Meerzaee — Google review
200m off the main highway the turn off is well posted. Parking for a number of cars and although no dedicated spots for caravans or trailers there is plenty of space to park and turn round. Toilets and picnic table, although the table is away from the view. Wheelchair accessible to the platform which is only a few metres from the car park. Great views and well worth the stop.

Such a magical spot for photos. Every photographer should make the effort to check it out. The angles and light is perfection and late afternoon gives the best effects. I can't wait to go back in the snow. Wow! These photos are just from my phone. A must see attraction within the Tumut area. It's a easy drive from Tumut and the drive itself it quiet beautiful. There are forest drives along the way that you may want to explore as well. Just be cautious of the logging trucks as they frequent the same road. Highly recommend this attraction. Also its dog friendly and kid friendly.

Was told about this place by a friendly lady at the Information Centre and almost didn't visit. Decided to stop off and found it well worth it. Not too far off the main road, and the size of these trees and their regular arrangement was quite the sight.
Wouldn't go out of your way to get here, but if you're already going past, this is a great place to stop for a quick wander (though keep in mind, it's a forest, so there are no facilities and you'll need to take all your rubbish out with you)

Incredible place, magical forest and not crowded at all! It’s breathtaking to walk among those pine trees and it’s an amazing photo spot as well!
The sad thing is that they are staring to cut down the trees on the opposite side of the road, but this part is so beautiful that they don’t have plans to touch it.

A beautiful place, especially those ancient ruins in this valley, a place that is not crowded and good in summer holidays, especially when the temperature rises.
I advise everyone, to pay attention to the rocks and reduce the place when going down to the gold mine, especially the parents that they should be careful about their children inside the river and when swimming.
You can park the car in the park, and there is a special park for the disabled with a sign.
information, if you come from afar, watch out for a road through the mountains.
it is better to bring your food with you and there is a village very close to the gold mine if you want to buy food from there.
Archaeological landmarks over 150 years old in Australia. You can read more about these monuments on information panels and pictures as well.
There is no difficulty in reaching these trails, you just have to be careful when going down to the valley.

Great place to cool off on a hot day. Many little places to picnic and get into the water. Not as cold as you'd think. Not much shelter from the sun down at the water but a nice area up the top before heading down.

A great stopover and well worth the walk around the ruins.when you get there is you walk left you will quickly get to a small bridge, otherwise if you go right you need to walk maybe five to ten minutes till you get to a bridge upstream. If the river is down you can cut across the rocks, but either way you will need to cross the river to get to the gold mine ruins.

Such an amazing place. Reading the plaques about the old buildings and history was really cool, make sure to fins the cottage ruins, it was a highlight. The river was so clear and beautiful... I wanted to have more time to explore down stream. It would be a great spot to visit when it's warm enough to swim

What a beautiful place. Scenic, quiet...except for the sound of the rushing creek. Good concrete paths and steps giving excellent access to all parts, covered picnic tables, toilets and a massive mandarin tree full of fruit.

Very interesting place with good information scattered throughout the site. Various access ways that suit most people, wheelchairs etc a bike challenging, not recommended. There's a Outlook area to view the ruins then pathways to get closer. As well as the ruins there's a beautiful waterway. There's toilets and picnic tables near carpark.

This is a great place to stop to stretch the legs or cool off along the road to Gundagai. There is a viewing platform at the carpark overlooking the ruins. From there you can take the trail and stairs down to a number of walking tracks through the ruins and to the river at the bottom where you can plunge in for a swim.
We took the 20min walk and a quick swim before heading back up, which was a great way to break up the drive.

If you enjoy learning about our pioneering gold history then you’ll love this place. Numerous information signs go into facinating detail about the people and processes involved. A worthwhile stop on the road. Take your time and inspect the old fashioned railway architecture. Even though the bridge was destroyed in a flood, it is still in marvelous shape and gives you an impression about what once was leading technology.
Unfortunately the walkway on the intact part of the bridge is currently closed due to damages in another storm (?)

The old town Gundagai was built on the Murrumbidgee River and became a township in 1838.
On the 25th of June 1852 it was destroyed by a flood 4 to 5 metres deep across the river flats. With 78 recorded deaths, the flood was Australia's worst natural disaster, until the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfire in Victoria.
An even larger flood followed in 1853.
Prince Alfred (6 August 1844 - 30 July 1900), after whom the bridge named (opened in 1867) was the Queen's Victoria (24 May 1819 - 22 January 1901) her second son. He was the first member of the Royal Family to visit Australia, touring in 1867 - 68, when he was 23 years.
He was shot in an assassination attempt at Clontarf (Sydney) March 1868.
Prince Alfred Bridge the iron spans are of unique design. The top chord is continuing and rests on roller bearings.
The piers are made of 6ft high by 6ft diameter (approximately 2M x 2M) cast iron drums made at Fitzroy Iron Works Mittagong. They were the first large iron casting made in Australia.
The total length of Prince Alfred Bridge was 921 metres. The Railway viaduct built in 1903 is the largest timber truss bridge ever built in Australia and measures 809 metres.
Prince Alfred Bridge from 1867 to 2021, was at Gundagai for 154 years. Early November 2021 due to the significant safety risk that the deteriorated timber viaduct poses to the Public. So it come down.
The 25 June 1852 Murrumbidgee River flood, local Aboriginal men, Yarri, Jacky Jacky, Long Jimmy, and one other played a role in saving many Gundagai people rescuing more than 40 people using bark canoes.
2017 a bronze sculpture of Yarri and Jacky Jacky with a canoe was unveiled in Gundagai, the number of people whom they saved is 68, one third of the towns population.
In the census of 2016 the population of Gundagai was 1,925.

Price is $10 per adult which is an extremely reasonable.
Depicting a famous 1850s bush ballad, this monument shows a dog guarding his owner's tuckerbox.

Such a lovely historical spot to visit. I noticed the old statue to the side, and the new monument has a water fountain around it. Wanted to recreate a photo I took there of a child but couldn't as the old monument no longer has the dog on it and it's been moved onto a larger monument and is surrounded by water.
Beautiful backdrop and location.

I saw The Dog on the Tuckerbox in the 1980's sometime when driving from Adelaide to Sydney. I think it was in a bit more of a bush setting then. However Australia has changed a lot since then and progress we have. I loved it then and I think it is what we need now, so l believe it has been done well . It is such an Australian icon, and a must see for visitors passing through.

It's an icon because of our Australian history. Some history is presented at the site. There's a dog on the Tucker box statue to take photos of and one for your own dog should you be so inclined. Nice between grass. Some toilets. A bit of dirt to park on which can be unpleasant if the wind gets up. A souvenir shop. Fork and did in in the area. If you've never been it's worth a stop but I would not go to too much trouble. Certainly better than it was 20 years ago.

The iconic Dog on the Tucker Box. My second visit, the first being 25 years ago. It's still the same. I love the merry history surrounding it and the numerous poems and songs it is included in. It sits at Five Mile Creek, 5 miles (north) from Gundagai.
There is a mock tuckerbox you can sit your dog on to take a photo.

Pretty cool for some random history of Australia
You also have the dog on the tuckerbox
I wouldn't go too far out of my way to stop in again
Josh Sutto — Google review
Dog on a Tucker Box Gundagai area is an interesting place with a couple of historical Homestead ruins and a couple of old horse draw wagons also so here!
As you turn off the Hume highway near the petrol station, the small road heading to the Tuckerbox, there's road works being done at the moment being (February 2024)...
Unfortunately for us the souvenir / gift store was closed and also I will add there is some tables seating area if you need a rest from driving...
This part below is a copy from the sign in front of the dog statue of most part:
Dog on the Tuckerbox memorial is supposedly based on an
incident that occurred to a teamster named Bill the Bullock on the road to Gundagai in the 1850s. While leading his bullocks team and wagon across a creek five or nine miles from Gundagai,
Bill's wagon became hopelessly bogged in the creek, trying to drag the wagon out of the bog one of his bullocks and then broke the wagon's yoke.
Thereupon, Bill gave up the job and went to have his lunch...
But here, to top off his run of bad luck, he found his dog sitting - or worse - on his tuckerbox...The other bullockies thought the incident a great joke, and one of them supposeally wrote a poem
about it.

Nice town, free RV parking on the river.
Walking distance to the pub, 24 bucks for lamb and veggies and gravy with mash.
Can't go wrong!

Stopped on way back from Albury NSW, a great stop to see and take a break. Brought back memories from when I was a kid, and our caravan trip, back in the late 50s early 60s with Mum, Dad and Sister. You can pull off and get back on highway with no trouble, and the area is big and plenty of room to unwind. There is food, and the little store has different nik naks to buy. Also an antique shop for a look around, not sure if connected to the store with the food. The second photo taken from ladies, so had to take photo, interesting info, gave me laugh. Iconic tourist attraction, worth the stop.

Fantastic experience. The whole family loved it. There were awesome stories about the snowy high country and how it was back in the day. The show was broken in half with 2 parts and Billy tea supplied with milo for the kids and cake and biscuits during the break between shows. The gift shop had loads in there from hats to shirts and spoons. The show was alive with animals that were well trained and gave a good impression of how even modern day farmers work with and around livestock. If your a fan of beautiful horses including a brumby this is the show for you. There was interesting stories about the area.

Amazing local, off-grid, forward-thinking, award-winning winery/cafe/restaurant, nestled away ~30mins from Albury in a beautiful hidden location, peaceful surrounds in amongst the valleys. It’s near the recently completed Woomargama Lookout, with great views of the surrounding valleys, where from some points you can even see Mt Kosciusko too. Owners Julianne and Les were amazing hosts, giving us great info about the areas, produce and their process. Eating areas are: outdoors, on deck with umbrellas for shade, and indoor, incl a comfy fireplace. Food was fresh, full of flavour. Barramundi with Prosciutto salad was superb. Great pairings with their own, award-winning Reisling. Wonderful coffee using a local Albury brew from The Brothers Cup. Great experience, will be back as we hear some sweeter wines, are nearly ready. 😉 We were treated to a special visit from Graham Robertson, an Antarctic polar biologist, who’s done a lot to help the fishing industry clean up their harmful practices. Everyone had great stories to tell. Delightful experience all around!

The first thing you notice about this place before you even get to the car parking is the amazing view...it's nestled between the Woomargama National Park just a short drive from Holbrook.
Juliane & Les are your hosts, they do a wonderful job at making you feel right at home when trying the drops produced on site as well as talking passionately about how they are produced.
There's a cafe which has a selection of to die for food & also options for those who do not drink/drink wine with beer/soft drink/coffee.
You will also find a play area along the side deck which makes the idea of having the kids along with you not so bad.
They are open most weekends and take bookings for other times of the week.
A great find!

Called into the winery today (Sunday) for a wine tasting. I was informed by an elderly gent that it would cost $20 for 4 wines per head. I commented that that was a bit expensive, I was told " my time does not come cheap on a Sunday". Too stunned to reply we just walked out.

I visited recently with my 2 sisters and niece and enjoyed the wine tasting and the story about how they are produced. I loved the bottle collection on the wraparound verandah. The setting is very pleasant and relaxing. I did not taste the food this trip but will on next trip with some family and extended family from England in the very near future. The site is developing and I cannot wait to see the finished product when completed.

Went here last Saturday to before I went to the chocolate factory. They have a great selection of old trains and carriages on display plus gift shop and working train models. You could spend about an hour looking through the old trains

We had an excellent afternoon experience the early modern train locomotives from steam to the modern day in the largest and oldest roundhouse with huge turntable in the Southern Hemisphere.
The mini model train run was outstanding!
Loved the place.

Interesting train carriages with good interpretation. Being a working roundhouse, I was able to watch while a diesel engine came in to the roundhouse and then transfer to a bay. There is a great working and large train set on display. It reminds me of what we had at home. The volunteers are also great with much information.

You can go on some beautiful, well maintained old carriages. the mail van is a highlight of all.
An old flour mill that has renovated to a high standard and would be fantastic for engagement or wedding venue. Great watching how they make the yummy chocolate and licorice. Staff also very friendly and helpful. We didn't get to eat there but would really like to next time we visit there.

The grounds are beautiful to look at, and sit in. The staff very friendly. The food in the restaurant part was very disappointing, couldn't order from the menu, only could order pizzas today, and they weren't very nice, we couldn't eat them, we tried, but felt sick after.
The gift shop upstairs had a nice range of local and non local wares.
The chocolate factory, u could see them making it through the windows, and you could make yr own chocolate too for a price, then you could go to the chocolate and licorice shop and buy some goodies to take home.
Outside they had a big shed that was full of vintage automobiles, for a gold coin entrance.

Took the opportunity to have lunch here while in the area. Great to see they were dog friendly in the outdoor eating area.

Steak sandwich and the squid tacos were delicious.

If you are passing through Junee make sure you stop at the chocolate factory here for some delicious chocolates which will not disappoint you. I know I enjoyed the chocolate coated nuts 😁. Visited over the Easter weekend and it was quite busy. We didn’t do the tour, or eat at the restaurant, but food looked and smelt great. Got a coffee and dessert from the cafe which were both fantastic. Also loved the liquorice store and wish I stocked up on the raspberry bullets! YUM!
Would love to come back and try the food. Very nice atmosphere. Be mindful of the vehicle you drive in, as it’s loose gravel. Also found this cute friendly dog wondering around outside 🥰

I really loved this place. It was our destination for our weekend trip to Junee and I travelled with my wife, kids and parents-in-law. We visited Saturday and while there were no scheduled tours, we asked and the lovely staff organised on for us and a few other families. The lady giving the tour, Katrina, was excellent and taught us a lot about how the products were made. We had fun too with the vertical bowling too and my son was delighted to win a prize. Lovely gift shops and cafes very reasonably priced. The coffee and hot chocolates were the best we had in town, we were back Sunday morning for another round! Definitely worth a visit.

Tours are run daily at 10:30am and 1:30pm so unfortunately we missed the tour however we were able to walk around and have a look through the windows at some of the production. Upstairs is a gift shop with a range of different items not related to the licorice and chocolate factory. For $5 you can make your very own big chocolate freckle in the freckle hut. There are several places to sit and enjoy some food. The hot chocolate’s are delicious.
Jo Seaby — Google review
Unfortunately no chocolate was being made the day we visited but despite that the building was beautiful to look around. The gift shop was pretty but honestly had very little amount of items related to the chocolate shop, to me it seemed very sporadic. The licorice shop smelt amazing, and the staff were lovely. Beautiful gardens as well. There is very little storage and unfortunately the building seemed more like a storage place, than a building where chocolate is made, as well as a cafe etc. There were cardboard boxes everywhere, plastic crates and a random ratty old computer chair. All in all it was a beautiful building to visit & the licorice is delicious.

What an awesome experience. If you haven't been here, you should. The presenters were awesome people and the house is amazing to explore. Loved it. What a place and a story. We got to meet Olive and she signed the book my wife bought. We would love to do the full night time guided tours with over night stay that they offer but, unfortunately they are booked out until late May, so if you want to do this book now.
But the homestead and the ground are worth a walk around to take in the story.
Thanks Olive.

The house is beautiful in terms of its architecture and for the rooms (8 in total that were open for viewing) that were furnished and kept clean. However this is not a historic haunted house, they have rather made it a dirty old rundown place with weeds, termite infestation, spiders and wasps making nests wherever you see outside of these 8 rooms. Part of the house is closed due to being in tatters. The outhouses were some of the most crazily dirty rooms I have ever seen in Australia. The owners are lazy and do not believe in cleaning and mopping the place.
Laden with cobwebs and insects of all varieties it was a nightmare to see this place and felt really sad for how they are treating such a historic house. All it takes is a mop and bucket to clean and I can't believe they can't afford it!!!
Nothing haunting abt the house except the tacky mannequins unnecessarily added to the house making it haloweenish while it doesn't need it.
A sincere request :- CLEAN UP!!!

Amazing. Loved the vibe. Loved the energy. Loved chatting to the owners. What a memorable experience. While it may be Australia's most haunted homestead, I felt completely at home playing with the spirits. Saw things move. Saw orbs. Heard voices and my daughter felt her head being touched... maybe it was a spider web. Creepy but fun.

The owners of this Homestead have done an amazing job of curating quite a collection of antiques and objects. Whilst we didnt see or hear a ghost during our visit, the ambience is definately quite unusual. We went during the day, I can imagine it would be atmospheric at night! The owner gave a talk when we purchased our tickets and entered the grounds, he provided us with a map which detailed the main house and surrounding grounds. Very interesting!

Great experience at the Monte Cristo homestead after wanting to visit since I was ten years old. I would love to go back and stay overnight sometime too but for now it was just a stop over on our way home.
We explored the home and it was super cold in the servants quarters as well as the old cart stables. We got one live picture of a few orbs floating around which was weird and cool.
Besides those new things it was a really nice stop over in a very historical building that I had known of most of my life, and always wanted to visit. So it was nice to finally do that.

If you need a break on your road trip this is the perfect place for it, no matter if it’s for the photo op, a chance to stretch or a picnic in the park.

We stopped here for lunch at the Holbrook bakery. Fantastic baked goods and delicious coffee, a must-visit for a snack.
The Oberon class submarine is a fantastic place to learn about Australian and British naval history. Take a photo with the huge half-submerged submarine in the park.
After this, you must visit the museum/visitors centre to take a walk through time. Stick around and watch the holographic history lesson in the centre's theatre.
As of 08/03/22, the cost for an adult ticket to the museum is $7. Well worth it.

Interesting and educational on the history of submarines, inside the museum there is a section of a submarine where you step inside and feel what it is like to sleep and work in a confine area, there is also a working periscope you can operate, respectable price $5 concession, staff are helpful and courteous, highly recommend this museum

One of the must do stopover when driving between Melbourne and Sydney/Canberra.
I know its weired to imagine a submarine displayed inland but hey the name of this town was changed to honour decorated WW1 hero Lt Norman Douglas Holbrook who captained the unsinkable terror (submarine HMS B11).
The submarine displayed is the hull of real HMS B11 submarine and you can see the sheer size of it.
The museum is great as it offers a great insight into the life of the mariners in submarine. There are 6 displays to showcase various sections of the submarine.
They have a good 3d holographic story narration for the curious minds that takes you through the achivements of HMS B11.
Informative and helpful staff and a great selection of regional goods too.

Reminding you that intergenerational transmission of knowledge doesn’t have to be traumatic, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery are running Miyagan: Relations. This exhibition celebrates artistic knowledge and skills bring passed down through generations with pieces from seven Aboriginal families.
Aunty Lucy Connelly Williams from Waradjere land lined one wall with colourful Dillybags (2019–20), while her daughter, Lorraine Connelly-Northey explores the bag form using rusted and burnt tin, mesh and wire on an adjacent wall. Lorraine takes the practical to conceptual in her piece called narrbang-galang (many bush baskets) (2019–20).
Star of the show is Emily Johnson from Barkindji land, whose work, Blak Future Mood (2018–20) appears alongside work from her grandfather. Emily’s funky series of interconnected panels, explores virtual reality and futuristic ways of living blak.
Downstairs you can visit Hardenvale—our home in Absurdia by Catherine O’Donnell, Kellie O’Dempsey & Todd Fuller. It’s a homage to the 1960s Western Sydney fibro shack—just like the one I spent my own childhood in.

Stopped in Wagga 2 weeks ago. Had a look around & stumbled across the Botanic Gardens & zoo. A great place to spend a morning. The free flight aviary is absolutely amazing. Well done Wagga! The gardens were lovely too.

The garden was lovely, but they were doing work on it, so there wasn't all that much to look at. The Camellias were beautiful.

Amazing place! And one of the coolest places on a hot day!
Sit under a tree, picnic rug and enjoy the winds cooling you down.
Great for kids, even has a kids playground.
Toilets available

Beautiful gardens, plenty of parking and multiple well kept playgrounds. The little zoo is getting a landscaping makeover at the moment and it is looking so good! The open air avery is ready and really nice now, good for the kids.

This is the second time I have visited the Botanic garden with my godson a soldier at Kapooka, the first being in June 2022 and this visit in May 2023. It is a very well laid out garden. I was particularly interested in the display of local flora. This time we concentrated on the fauna. It was interesting to see dingos close up. The deciduous trees looked splendid in their bright autumn colours.

The playgrounds are great and kids love playing on them they have BBQ plates next to them they work most the time so great place for family's. And it has a fitness track great for jogging with chin up and dip bars. And the scenery is beautiful and well maintained. Honestly if I could go to only one place in Wagga this would be the place besides my couch

Absolutely beautiful and a free zoo to boot. Can’t recommend this place enough. Great parks for the kids. Great gardens to relax in. Great zoo to walk around and see some wildlife. All up the best day in a long time.

Visited today with my two small children, lots has changed since our last visit. Lots of renovations, some new animals and by the looks of it more is happening. The kids enjoyed themselves and had a great time at one of the many play area's. It really is a beautiful place you could spend most of the day here.

A must visit place if passing by Wagga Wagga as a traveller or just as a local. The garden is flawlessly beautiful with lots of flowers and little attractions. It has access to public toilets and ample parking space on flexible pavement strip built closer to the road. There is a train ride journey one can enjoy imitating the real railways (popular among kids) that works once or twice a month on the weekend only. The toy train is run by the volunteers of Wagga Wagga society of model engineers(WWSME). The toy train is called Willians hill miniature railway.

Really nice to visit, unfortunately the zoo and aviary were closed on the day we visited.

Having grown up in Wagga and having spent many happy times in these gardens it was a pleasure to visit again today. It is the perfect place for a picnic. However, the Garden Cafe serves excellent "All day breakfast" and lunch - reasonably priced. Lovely playground for little ones. A free, mostly Australian animals and birds, Zoo and a great adventure playground. Chinese garden, succulent garden, rose garden and a model railway. The perfect place for a day out with the family.

I had a wonderful visit to the Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens in the heart of the city. The garden's beauty and tranquility were truly impressive. I was captivated by the diverse collection of plants, well-maintained pathways, and the serene lake. It's a perfect place to unwind, connect with nature, and enjoy a leisurely stroll. The staff was friendly, and the educational aspects added to the experience. Highly recommended for nature enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful escape within the city.

Wonderful public parklands with several separate children's playgrounds, zoo and avery, cafe, pump track, and miniature train. The train runs the first and third Sunday of the month and costs $4 per person. You must wear enclosed shoes. I've seen people take the dogs on the train too. The cafe has great gelato. The zoo has dingos and other Australian animals. The Avery has a free flight area with a fish pond. Lots of fun for the entire family.
