Kudos to those who maintains this place heaven. Very much neat and cleanliness. With enough parking facility. Come here around 4pm and spend some blissful times. Taking Photographs, Collecting shells, Meditation, Spot the sun set, are the things you could do here. But the problem what you face here is the return journey. You will endup in between hundreds of vehicles which connects to the main road. So have patience while going back.

Very good place. I enjoyed the place very much. If clear sky then view would be wonderful. If not clear sky then experience will be different levels. Windy area. Try to take hotel near to sun rise point and take auto to sunset point. You will enjoy the road to point.

During an early morning visit to sunset Beach, we found beautiful views and nature's fury of massive waves smacking the boulders. However, humanity chose to leave the evidence of their filthy existence everywhere. Felt great to be in the southern most part of Indian subcontinent.

A very beautiful place to visit. I love to visit it. I think everybody have to visit this place atleast once in his whole lifetime.
There's lot of car parking available with snacks shop surrounded by it.
Many people try to get down to beach but police personnel present here to watch them as tides are heavy.
Other than viewing sunset this place is definitely suitable for relaxation with a good view.A best place to see the sunset. Most people do not go to this site. Don't miss this side of Kanyakumari. It is fantastic, calm, and beautiful.
There is not much sandy beach here but rocks to sit and enjoy the view and sound. Ample of parking spots around the beach area and nice walking path between the spots and beach which provides a refreshing walk and something to remember as a cherishing memory. Many food hawkers here for snack items. Dustbins are there on the roads near the beach so please do not throw waste on the beach like many others have done.

The interesting fact at Kankyakumari is you can view both sunrise and sunset from same viewpoint. The area gets crowded during these times and get ready to spend a good time here. This is a lovely place to take photos of the various changes that happen in the colors of the sky and water and suggest you also use the services of a professional photographer there.

Very beautiful view of sunset from the beach. Lot of people come here to enjoy this serene beauty. The reddish orange blooming going into the sea is definitely a thing to watch at least once if you plan to visit kanyakumari.

The sight of the sunset is astounding, but the place isn't very clean, a heap of clothes strewn against the rocks in the sand, ruins of a road and a seating area, maybe. Has so much potential that isn't being utilised. Having said that, watching the sun set in this place is something you SHOULD NOT miss. Just get there earlier and stake your claim on a rock

We went for stroll on the shore side, viewed the Thiruvalluvar status and Vivekananda rock from the Sunrise points. We climbed the view tower to see the sunset. This is simply amazing to see ! What a location to see the sunset. The sunset was amazing to see with orange background and rumbling seas hitting the rocks on shoreline.
There was an moderate crowd there. Once the sunset, almost all left and we decided to spend few minutes in the strong wind top of the view tower. Then, came the amazing moment. The whole sky turned orange in colour and sea and oceans around reflected them ! This is one amazing moment.
We got up around 4:30 AM, bathed and went to see the sunrise at sunrise point. Sunrise point is just behind the Amman temple on the Kanyakumari Beach. There were already around 3000 people there! One can sight beautiful sunrises anywhere in Kanyakumari, but, this place is quite special. The sun rises between the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Thiruvalluvar statue !

Calm and Magical!
.
Great place to relax and feel the cold salty wind Breeze through your hair and enjoy the setting of the Sun.
.
Just 10 minutes drive from boating point.
.
Ample free parking space, chargeable washroom facility is also there which is a little far (50-100 m from beach side), some snack options also you would find there.
.
There are enough rocks and walls to sit on and enjoy.
.
ADVISE: come a little early(5-5:15pm) to attain the front rocks seats otherwise other people's heads would hinder the beautiful sunset and be cautious where you sit, choose your rock wisely.
.
Thanks

A serene and lovely spot on the last land of India. The vast Indian ocean shows its might in full fury as the tides grow high. It is recommended to wear non slippery footwear if you wish to climb the rocks for viewing sunset. Lot of vendors and parking spots available in the vicinity, just a public restroom is missing.

Went on a weekday but was still very crowded during sunset time. The sunset happens over the sea for a few months and moves towards the land for a few months.. Obviously the sunset over the sea is more beautiful.

To feel the awesome breeze alone this is a good spot. There are some seats available to enjoy the view and the wind carrying the ocean fragrance dashing on our face. If management could maintain the place it would be better.
The best time to visit is 5:30 AM to 6:30 AM.
Some people are taking baths naked. It would be better if they won't allow that.

Awesome sunset. Crowded. The views are amazing. From kanyakumari temple auto will charge 80rs. If you have time it's better to walk since the sea shores are neatly managed.

The view is absolutely fantastic. The sun going down below the sea is so magical. The place can be viewed from the beach ,but requires perfect weather. However when cloudy it won't be seen well. The wind blowing continuosly through your hair is such a perfect combo with the scenery. There is a view tower also for seeing the sunset.

You have to pay 50rs if you come in car to visit this stinky smelly place of a beach. What a horrible beach it is . It stinks to the core and there was a dead car near the beach rocks . While entering the kaniyakumari road you have to pay 50rs and for entering the beach through car you have to pay another 50rs. Worst beach ever

It was my first time in Kanyakumari, and this Sunset point is where I visited first. Pretty neatly-kept place, with huge parking space and many local vendors selling snacks, fried fish, random seashell items.
Pretty neat - overall, but there are 0 waste bins, and the visitors carelessly throw plastic and paper wastes near the beach area. There are many street dogs too, but not much of a menace.
Definitely longing to go back! :)

The Shree Thanumalayan Swamy Temple in Suchindram is a 17th-century Hindu temple located near Nagercoil, between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It boasts intricate architectural detailing in the typical South Indian style, but with exceptional workmanship that is truly remarkable. Visitors are required to remove shirts before entering the temple. The facade of the temple features sculptures of Hindu deities, while inside musical and instrumental pillars can be found.
One must seek the historic and mythological importance from the local guides. Otherwise it seems like ordinary temple. The musical pillars, instrumental pillars are just amazing.. Rich sculptural heritage exists here... Originality is retained.. Must visit temples of Tamilnadu.

Beautiful temple which is spread over 5 acres. If you are visiting from elsewhere take a tour from a local. We were fortunate enough to have a guided tour from one of the priests over there.
The Dancing Hallway, Musical Pillars with beats and also different musical instrument pillars are my favourites in the temple.
Ideology, Philosophy and Architecture are mesmerizing. One of the best temples i visited on my trip.

Excellent temple. This was my first time to a temple with Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu in single statue. Main temple probably 2300 years old. It is best to hire guide otherwise you take much longer and miss a few items. One highlight of the temple is music pullers which only a guide can demonstrate. Over a nice experience. A must see if you are going to Kanyakumari.

Must visit temple. Very ancient with amazing energies. There are very fine aspects to the architecture, including the geometry. Suchindaram has a root meaning 'to clear'. This temple clears vaastu dosh, pitra dosh, etc. There are beautiful instruments to clear planetary effects, metallic musical poles and multiple deities with awesome construction of the temple. It is very ancient. A guide will be useful. No photography is allowed inside so leave your phone and bag outside before going ahead. Timings are specific.

There will be many priests in the temple who appear to volunteer and start to explain and guide groups who appear to be new to the temple. In the end you will be put in a delicate position to pay them around 500 or more.. if you just want to be on your own and don’t need any guidance, politely avoid contact with them in the start and continue your way.. other than this, it was such a divine experience, it portrays the rich heritage and culture of Tamil Nadu. For men, shirts and banyans are not allowed inside the temple. For ladies, western wear not allowed. Archanai ticket is only Rs.10 per person.

One of the oldest temple in Kanyakumari district. Amazing architecture.
It is one of the few temples in the country where the Trinity, ‘Brahma, Vishnu and Ishvara’, are worshipped. The temple enshrines ‘Sri Sthanumalaya’, the Trinity of God (Siva, Vishnu and Brahma). The linga is in three parts. The top represents “Sthanu” name of Siva, the middle “Mal” name of Vishnu, and the base “Aya” name of Brahma.
Navaghra is in ceiling. That's so unique.

The Suchindram Shree Thanumalayan Swamy Temple is a remarkable place in South India, celebrated for its stunning architecture and profound spiritual significance. This unique temple is dedicated to the Trinity of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma. When you step inside, you're enveloped in a serene and tranquil atmosphere. The temple's towering 144 ft structure, adorned with intricate architecture, is a sight to behold. The colossal 18 ft statue of Lord Hanuman adds to the temple's grandeur.
If you're planning a visit, remember to adhere to the dress code: men are expected to wear dhoti or full pants without a shirt, while women can enter wearing sarees or salwar suits. It's advisable to plan ahead, as there are only a few clothing shops nearby. While cameras are allowed inside, capturing pictures in the main temple area is restricted. Just like many other South Indian temples, the Suchindram Temple is exceptionally clean and well-maintained, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking spiritual solace and architectural beauty.

The Padmanabhapuram Palace, located in the northwest of Kanyakumari, is a grand complex of wooden palaces that showcases the traditional architecture of Kerala. With beautifully carved rosewood ceilings and polished-teak beams, this palace is considered to be the best example of Keralan architecture. It was once the capital of Travancore, an unstable princely state spanning Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Awesome place to visit. A must visit place to know about the history. There is entry fee and separate fee for clicking photos. The place is well maintained and very vast. The guides will explain the details of each section. The place is cool and calm. Parking has to be done near the road near entrance. Beautiful architecture and construction . In some places the maintenance has to be improved.

It was sad to visit this historic site that has so much to offer to tourists & see very poor upkeep & signage. I would not recommend it to people visiting internationally. It’s rich in architecture & history and yet there is barely any information printed out and posted for visitors to understand the architecture & how the spaces were used. The volunteers there give you a basic introduction to each room “this is the dining hall” or “this is the ladies waiting room” but that’s about it. Most of the directional signage is broken. Many areas are closed off with sad broken, mismatched, uneven barriers. It’s hard to get a good photo of many areas (the dance hall is a great example of this) because of these barricades, garbage, old furniture, broken rails, electrical wires, exposed power panels & tiles/debris shoved in many corners. See pics. I’m sure the government of Kerala can do better.
Right from the entrance gate, water fountains, to the room where you leave your shoes needs updating. India is so rich in culture so it’s always upsetting to see it maintained & presented in such a sad state.

Upon arrival, it's essential to acquire tickets, as footwear is prohibited within the premises. You must store your shoes in the provided cloakroom. Consider purchasing temporary shoe covers to shield your feet from the heat and ensure comfortable walking.
Although sections of the palace are inaccessible due to its age, it remains a captivating glimpse into royal life. Ample parking space is available, with a roadside parking fee of 50 rupees.

One of the oldest and largest wooden palaces in India. The government has maintained the place really well. The guides here provide some good insights of the palace. The architecture of the palace is so amazing. It takes a minimum of 2 hours at least to complete the entire tour. There are certain sections of the palace which are inaccessible perhaps due to its ancientness. And there are some scribblings on the walls and pillars which spoils the architecture a bit. There are some paintings that have been kept for viewers which actually depict the culture and other aspects of the kings life during those days A must visit if are nearby.
The palace is open to the public from 2.00PM and it's advisable that you reach 30 mins earlier to avoid the rush in availing entry tickets.
The palace is located just around 20 km from Nagercoil and upon arrival you have to take tickets which cost 40 per adult and 20 for a mobile camera for Indian citizens and only cash is accepted here. They also provide lockers to keep your footwear since it is prohibited inside the palace.

I had visited this place once during my childhood. There was a person who would come and explain each and every detail and the palace was filled with so much antique items. Now it feels like everything was empty. Though at each juncture there were people who were present to explain things to the visitors, none of the ladies there even bothered to look at us. All rooms were completely emptied . Only good things was we could get so many pics

400 years old well preserved wooden palace. Very organized palace tour with guides placed around. Neat and clean with a lot of plants and trees. The passage has many high steps and difficult ladders, so it might be difficult for elderly people. The tour takes around 2 hours.

A very nice place to visit and very interesting in knowing about the Prinece Queen lifestyle , architecture of palace, gardening , lighting inside the house, kitchen, 64 herbs bed for King, separate room for king's mother, attractive and lifetime furniture, windows style, balcony areas etc...
Main attraction is the dance hall where kings and ministers sit and watch. Whereas the queen watch from special windows.
The kitchen utensils, well with fulcrum etc.. are amazing...
The roof architecture of the palace is marvelous.
The rainwater harvesting introduced long long years ago tells us that the importance of Conservation of Water.
A special building for other kings and visitors was built in foreign style.
The room for providing free food for the public really appreciable.
Overall I loved the place and enjoyed with my family.

Travancore heritage palace with historical significance. It could have been much better taken care of. Few doors and windows and flooring are dilapidated and needs urgent restoration. The staffs could have explained historical significance of artefacts much better if they were sincere and interested in making the visitors more informed about the place and history.

This is one of my favourite places to go to so full of our history ,
But this time I was so disappointed
1, The guides just stand at random corners and say some random things no explanation given whatsoever . It would have been better if we kept plaques with the relevant information .
2 No maintenance at all creeps have carved their name everywhere the staff is least bothered this could have been avoided if they gave guided tours
So sad to see such spaces getting ruined

Undoubtedly a city landmark with rich historical significance, especially appealing for those with an affinity for old architecture. However, if you're a local who has already explored the vintage homes of your grandparents, the experience might lack novelty. The real charm lies in the intricate woodwork of the stairs, corridors, and more, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship.
Before planning your visit, be aware of a few nuances. There's an entry fee of Rs.50 for cars, and parking can be a hassle in the congested vicinity of the palace. Upon entering, brace yourself to part with Rs.5 for the mandatory removal of footwear, with UPI or cash payment. The entrance fee for Indian adults is Rs.40, and if you wish to capture memories through mobile photography, it's an extra Rs.20 per person, payable only in cash. Disappointingly, UPI or card payments are not accepted. Once inside, guards may approach, seemingly more concerned with verifying payments for mobile camera photography than enhancing your experience.
Despite some reviews suggesting otherwise, I found the guides to be well informed and thorough in their explanations, contradicting claims that they fail to provide meaningful insights.

It feels like stepping back in time when exploring the palace and its surroundings, which hold a lot of intrigue. I remember visiting this place often during my childhood, but many areas I once saw are no longer accessible today. Some places may have been sealed off, and many areas have deteriorated over time. With age, the palace, its buildings, and its collection of items are starting to show signs of wear. It's uncertain how long they will last, but the government is making efforts to preserve this historical site.

It's a beautiful place to visit and had great time and beautiful memories in this place. It takes more than 3 hours to roam around this place to fully cover. So many old and traditional things used by kings and previous generations are held here. Everything is goosebumps moments when roaming inside the palace. Spent some good time with brothers and good place for touristers. Beautiful architecture... Entry ticket 40Rs per person I believe.

Now the palace is not good as the previous years. The precious items had been moved from here. Main attraction is only the old rooms, pond, kitchen etc.
The parking is near by the side of road. There Is lot of relaxing areas near the palace.
We need to remove footwear to enter the palace. There is clock room for collecting the foot wear.
We can take tickets for mobile photography also.

My recent visit to this palace left me in awe of its stunning architectural brilliance. The craftsmanship is truly remarkable, a testament to the visionary architect behind it. While the interior lacks an extensive collection of artifacts, the museum does offer a glimpse into the palace's history with a few noteworthy pieces. The presence of staff in each section added to the experience, providing valuable insights into the exhibits. However, the policy of no footwear inside proved to be a minor inconvenience, especially when stepping outside onto scorching hot ground. Despite this drawback, the palace remains a delightful destination worth exploring.

Padmanabhapuram palace is one of its kind. This is exquisite with wood carvings. This palace is completely made of wood and the craftsmanship is unmatched.
When we went it was a cloudy day hence the palace was pitch dark during the day.
The garden, rooms and other facilities are well maintained. The place also hosts a lot of paintings. This has accounts of famous kings.
A must visit for all. But note that it's closed on Monday and there is lunch time of 1.30 hours. Plan your visit accordingly

Stepping inside, we were greeted by a breathtaking spectacle. Everywhere we turned, there were things depicting historical scenes, and antique furniture whispering stories of past residents.
The highlight of our visit was the guided tour. Our knowledgeable guide brought the palace's history to life, weaving tales of royal families, courtly intrigue, and grand events held within these very walls.
The experience was very good.
Padmanabhapuram Palace wasn't just a history lesson; it was an immersive experience. It allowed us to imagine ourselves walking the same halls as royalty and to appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry of a bygone era.

A very big and nice old palace spread in a few acres. It's full of teak wood. There are instructors at the key locations to talk about the space and the king.
There is no proper electrical lighting inside and even the armour museum was closed due to electricity issues when I visited.
Should take a maximum of 1-1 .5 hrs for a good visit.

One of the most beautiful and biggest wooden palace in India. Palace is mesmerizing. Beautiful scenery and one can see hill behind palace which adds extra beauty to the palace. It is near about 400 years old. Need better preservation and maintenance. Illumination is low but that gives it an illusive look. Inside the palace few guides available, they explain about the importance topics of it nicely. It was the original capital of the Travancore Dynasty and this palace was their original palace before they shifted their capital and palaces to Trivandrum. It's a protected monument now under the Archaeological survey of Kerala. A good Historical place. Entry fee 40 for adults and 20 rupees for mobile photography.

Despite being located in Tamil Nadu, Padmanabhapuram Palace is a testament to Kerala's rich architectural heritage and is lovingly maintained by the Kerala government. This intriguing fact only adds to the palace's unique charm and historical significance.
A few practicalities to note before you go: be prepared for warm temperatures, especially during the day. The palace is not air-conditioned, and the heat can be quite intense, so dress accordingly and stay hydrated. Additionally, remember to bring cash for the entrance fee, as card payments are not accepted.
Once inside, the palace is a treasure trove of intricate woodwork, stunning sculptures, and breathtaking murals. Every corner you turn reveals a new masterpiece, showcasing the incredible craftsmanship of the era. I was particularly captivated by the detailed carvings adorning the ceilings and pillars, which tell stories of mythology and daily life from centuries past.
While the heat and the cash-only payment policy might be minor inconveniences, the sheer beauty and historical value of Padmanabhapuram Palace make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art, history, or architecture. Just remember to dress for the weather and bring enough cash, and you're in for a truly unforgettable experience

One of the best weekends destinations with children. They enjoy the small waterfall. One of the main problems is the parking space on Sunday and public holidays. The narrow road to the location is also a problem. When another vehicle comes opposite then you are trapped. The main entry road leads to vehicle entry pass Rs.50/- There's a clock room for storage of your clothes and valuable with a cost of Rs. 40/-. Separate room is available for men and women for changing clothes and toilets also. There is an entry fee also. It's the side of the Siva temple and you can go to the dam and river on the other side of the temple from the road. It's also very beautiful ❤️ there is a children's park near to the waterfall. The man made waterfalls is about 20 km from Nagercoil, where we stayed. Beware of the bumpy road to get there. Parking was an issue. There were lots of little shops selling holiday clothes and souvenirs. There was a nominal entrance fee. The falls itself was picturesque. There are segregated areas for men and women to bathe. There was a pool for those who don’t want to stand under the falls. But be careful of the mossy rocks. There are separate changing rooms with basic amenities. Nominal fee of Rupees 5 to use it. The Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. It is considered as the richest place of worship in the world. The name of the city of 'Thiruvananthapuram' in Malayalam translates to "The City of Lord Ananta", (The City Of Lord Vishnu) referring to the deity of the Padmanabhaswamy temple. The temple is built in an intricate fusion of the Chera style and the Dravidian style of architecture, featuring high walls, and a 16th-century gopura. While the Ananthapura temple in Kumbla in Kasaragod is considered as the original seat of the deity ("Moolasthanam"), architecturally to some extent, the temple is a replica of the Adikesava Perumal temple in Thiruvattar.
The principal deity Padmanabhaswamy (Vishnu) is enshrined in the "Anantha Shayana" posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the infinite serpent Adi Shesha.Padmanabhaswamy is the tutelary deity of the royal family of Travancore. The titular Maharaja of Travancore, Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma, is the trustee of the temple.
Several extant Hindu Texts like the Vishnu Purana, Brahma Purana,Matsya Purana,Varaha Purana, Skanda Purana, Padma Purana,Vayu Purana, Bhagavata Purana etc mention the Padmanabhaswamy Temple. The Temple has been referred to in the (only recorded) Sangam period of literature several times. Many conventional historians and scholars are of the opinion that one of the names that the Temple had, "The Golden Temple", literally was in cognizance of the fact that the Temple was already unimaginably wealthy by that point. Many extant pieces of Sangam Tamil literature and poetry as well as later works of the 9th century of Tamil poet-saints like Nammalwar refer to the temple and the city as having walls of pure gold. At some places, both the temple and the entire city are often eulogised as being made of gold, and the temple as heaven.
The temple is one of the 108 principal Divya Desams ("Holy Abodes") in Vaishnavism according to existing Tamil hymns from the seventh and eighth centuries C.E and is glorified in the Divya Prabandha. The Divya Prabandha glorifies this shrine as being among the 13 Divya Desam in Malai Nadu (corresponding to present-day Kerala with Kanyakumari District). The 8th century Tamil poet Alvar Nammalvar sang the glories of the Padmanabha.
It is believed that Parasurama purified and venerated the idol of Sree Padmanabhaswamy in Dvapara Yuga. Parasurama entrusted 'Kshethra karyam' (Administration of the Temple) with seven Potti families – Koopakkara Potti, Vanchiyoor Athiyara Potti, Kollur Athiyara Potti, Muttavila Potti, Karuva Potti, Neythasseri Potti and Sreekaryathu Potti. King Adithya Vikrama of Vanchi (Venad) was directed by Parasurama to do 'Paripalanam' (Protection) of the Temple. Parasurama gave the Tantram of the Temple to Tharananallur Namboothiripad. This legend is narrated in detail in 'Kerala Mahathmyam' which forms part of 'Brahmanda Puranam'.

Temple brings the peace that is very indeed present at the depth of heart. Only dhotis are allowed to wear for boys and also without shirt. So remember only dhotis without shirts. Dhotis are available for rent are temple premises itself. If need to buy one then the market area is very close to the temple. There all things could be found like food, clothing, bags, gadgets and etc, the security personnels over there are very helpful and ready to guide. Pilgrims attending from across the country make the temple darshan more special. Finally visit the main deity and also some small shrines are present and worth visiting them too.

My visit to the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Trivandrum was peaceful and awe-inspiring. The temple's architecture was magnificent, and the atmosphere inside was serene. I offered my prayers and admired the beautiful artwork. The temple courtyard was a tranquil place to walk around and reflect. I also enjoyed the delicious prasadam from the food stall. Overall, it was a memorable and spiritually uplifting experience.

The Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Trivandrum, Kerala, is a magnificent and historically significant religious site. Its intricate architecture, dedicated rituals, and cultural importance make it a must-visit destination for those interested in Indian heritage and spirituality.

Back in June 2011, as a result of a petition filed in the court seeking transparency in the management of the temple and the subsequent investigation of the temple complex, six subterranean vaults were found inside the Padmanabhaswamy temple. They were subsequently named vaults A, B, C, D, E, and F. Out of the six, they managed to open five, from which came out items like gold coins, statues, jewelries, precious stones, crowns and even thrones made of gold! The collection turned out to be the largest ever recorded collection of items of gold and precious stones.

Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is really impressive! The design outside and the peaceful vibe inside are amazing. The god's statue is beautiful, and the history is cool. Just remember to dress appropriately and be ready for some security stuff. It's a special place to connect with culture and religion.

A magnificent temple. As soon as we go into the temple, we get an unknown divine feeling. Amazing sculpture is here. I can't express that feeling in words..you have to see it! There is a beautiful lake corner outside the temple. There are many fish in it which are visible to the visitors. It also contains crocodile but does not harm the fish, which is the specialty here. All the facilities we need are available in the surroundings of the temple. Definitely a place to visit with the whole family!

The famous ancient temple Sree Padmanabhaswamy is situated in the heart of Trivandrum. There are no parking facilities and also there is a high rush in front of the temple. The temple is very neat and clean. The temple is situated nearest to the KSRTC bus stand. 4,5 Km far from the railway station. Only Hindus and government officials would be let in the temple's main part. There is high security on all sides of the Temple. We couldn't see the Kalavara part .overall nice.

Fantastic architectural magnificent temple. Everyone has to follow the dress code, for men it's mundu and for women it's saree.Devotees coming from long can directly go near the temple where you can find dormitories and refreshing rooms. It's very near both Bus stand and Railway station.Must must visit if you are in Kerala to witness the beauty and rich culture of Kerala. You will feel so special, pure and positive. Grateful to visit and get a chance to learn the historical architecture and history of this temple. The temple is open 3:30 AM–12 PM and 5–8:30 PM every day. Some say that the service is good, but you might need to buy a ticket if you want to go quickly. Others say that it offers an eye-pleasing experience.

I had the opportunity to visit the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple recently, and the experience was truly mesmerizing. I was amazed to witness the strict dress code and the attention to detail in maintaining the purity and sanctity of the temple.
One of the most striking features of the temple is its intricate and detailed architecture, with its traditional Dravidian style. The impressive Ananthasayanam idol is truly breathtaking. This unique form of Lord Vishnu makes the temple even more revered.
There were very strict dress codes for devotees, like only dhotis for males and white-red saree for females and no photography allowed inside the temple.
Overall, my visit was a memorable and fulfilling experience. I highly recommend a visit to this magnificent temple to all.

Nature attraction featuring deer viewing, a crocodile park & boat rides past Neyyar Dam.
The best part of visiting this place is, we've to go on a small boat trip to reach there. The animals are very much close to nature out there. The animals are very well protected. We can see elephants, lions, crocodiles, deers etc.
Robin W — Google review
Neyyar dam and surrounding places are good. The view of the dam and the park nearby offers a good spot for family picnics. But the horrible thing is the "wildlife sanctuary". It's just a name for animals put under captivity in a confined space. The boating program includes boating to a nearby island which has the "deer park" and elephant and crocodile "rehabilitation" centre. There's nothing but very few crocodiles put in a cage and an elephant (yes, only one) in chains. They say that it's too old. And after that comes "deer park" - again lots of deer in a confined space, just like in a zoo! Why do they call this a wildlife sanctuary? I really don't know. This costs 250 per person!
The natural beauty of the place is breathtaking and awesome! But why does the management do this? They could have turned this into something beautiful and memorable for the people who visit right? Totally unhappy with the management of tourism here. Now you decide whether to visit or not.

Not many staff around, except at the ticket counters.
The premises are well constructed, due to which they stay in good shape despite lack of maintenance.
The snack bar is very friendly and have fair prices, and also doubles up as onofficial information counter.
Good place to spend 2-3 hours relaxing and unwinding.

Neyyar Dam, located in Kerala, India, is a beautiful destination known for its serene surroundings and lush greenery. Visitors often enjoy boat rides on the reservoir, trekking in the nearby hills, and exploring the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary. It's a great place for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful retreat amidst scenic landscapes. However, some reviewers note that the facilities could be improved, so it's always good to manage expectations accordingly. Overall, it offers a refreshing getaway for those looking to unwind in nature's embrace.

Neyyar wildlife sanctuary is a popular one day destinations in Trivandrum. Situated in an area of around 128 km square and is a part of the Agasthyamala biosphere reserve. This reserve forms the basin for the Neyyar River and its tributaries Kallar and mullayar. The natural vegetation and the diverse species of mammals such sloth bear , tiger, leopard, elephant, barking deer, sambar, etc several species of birds and reptiles together form a large ecosystem. A crocodile rehabilitation centre and Elephant rehabilitation centre has also been set up here. Tourist information complex provides all the information and tickets for parking and entry. Boating facility is available but carries limited number of people and there could be a long wait for boats to return. Boating takes one towards a small forest cover where the lions and leopards are said to be conserved. Few small stalls and a ktdc restaurant work here. Even though the hygiene and maintainable are average regarding the eateries. There is very less vegetarian choice of food / meals available in the same. It would be better to carry the food and water to this spot. The park near the dam is a place that people spent the evenings. Overall Maintenence is poor in this reserve. The authorities cancel the boats whenever they feel like. The parking facility is too far. People park on the road side . The whole road is crowded and one can expect a long traffic jam there.

It’s 1 hour from Trivandrum city. The place has a crocodile park that can be accessed without a boat. Opens at 9 am.
Nothing much to see. The sanctuary is on another island and we need to use a boat to see it. Took us about 1.25 hrs to enter the boat, see the 2 elephants, few deer and 2 crocodiles and return.
To see the deer, you will need to go early before it gets too hot, else they will go up the hill and return only in the evening when it cools down. So please plan accordingly.
We paid 250 per person. Not really worth the time and money, in my opinion.
The lion park is not there anymore as the lions died.
There is place to drink tea, coffee etc outside .
You wont find any proper restaurants nearby, though. There is one ktdc but we dint try it.

Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is a superb place, blending with nature—hills, lakes, forests, and parks. The boating from Wildlife Santuary to Deer Park was great! You can take a small walk inside the forest to reach the deer rehab park. There is plenty of space for kids, family, and friends. The crocadile park could be improved more to attract tourists! One thing that we missed was the lion safari, as new lions are yet to reach!

Best place for weekend trip. You will get a ticket 2500/- for 5 people. Which include boating, crocodile park and dear park. All staffs are friendly and helpful. Small snacks counter available. Renovation work is going on.
The Neyyar Dam is a large structure built on the Neyyar River, featuring a reservoir, picnic areas, and a wildlife sanctuary that offers visitors an opportunity to take part in various types of boating activities on the water. Of these options, the wildlife boating experience stands out as it takes passengers through twists and turns to reach the "wildlife preservation centre," which is a nature retreat in itself that is definitely worth visiting.
Getting there is a bit tricky with the bad condition of roads. But the dam and surrounding areas are well maintained with a near garden and viewing area. Yet to try the safaris, but already such a wonderful experience.

This is a must visit place if you are traveling to Trivandrum. This is an attraction for all age groups from kids to senior citizens. The highlights of the place is the sight of the water flowing from the dam structure. The sight and sound of it calms you. There are multiple parks inside which are neatly maintained. There are lawns all over with shady benches to relax and enjoy the nature. The steps take you to the top of the dam. There is a watch tower at the top which gives a great 360 degree view. There is a KTDC restaurant at the top. The service is great and food is good. The rates are nominal. The view is again great from this restaurant. There were lions maintained in a Lion Safari earlier. But these are closed now. Was informed that the lions died of ailments. Cars can be parked safely under shade. You can spend more than half a day here with friends and family enjoying the view of the dam, reservoir, lawns and forests around.

This dam offers an absolutely breathtaking view. You can either park your car and climb up or drive up. I'm told it's quite the climb, so be ready for that commitment if you were to climb up. They have various boat and speed boat rides. The ride was nice and offered amazing view. There's also a building structure on the top which you can climb on to of (like a lighthouse) and enjoy the view up top. There's a small entry fee and the rides are decently priced. A little further away is an elephant training camp, deer park etc. The elephant camp has "kotta vanji" or coracle boat ride, which seemed more appealing as there wouldn't be the noise from the motor in the street boat, we did not try this though. There's a milma ice cream place for an ice cream break.

A calm, scenic place, with a beautiful dam – a view that’s especially inviting for a camera if the skies are clear and the dam shutters are open. Once in, there is quite a bit to do here. We went for a boating – just the 5 of us in a boat meant for more folks – with stops at the Deer Park and the Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre. The Lion Safari was not open at that point since a few of the lionesses were undergoing medical support. The view from the watch tower is absolutely breath-taking if you're game to climb up all those stairs. A lovely half- to full-day trip from Thiruvananthapuram city.

A favourable point is the prohibition of plastic, including plastic water bottles, allowed only with a deposit, way higher than the bottle cost. Good to make people think.
Overall worth the visit, although lots of room to improve

What a fantastic zoo! I had an amazing time exploring all the different animal exhibits. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Great family day out! A visit to this zoo is a must if you're in the area. The variety of animals is impressive, and the enclosures seem spacious and well-maintained. Will visit again

I went with my workmates and spent some time there. It was nice to go with them, but the walk was really tiring. The hot weather was not to our advantage. And we were not able to see all the animals over there. That disappointed us.
We could only see the lion by accident and was not able to see the tiger there anywhere.
Until next time then.

Had a great time here with family. There is some distance to walk within the zoo, which may be tiresome during hot and humid conditions. There are Asiatic lions, tigers (white as well), hyena, leopards and so on including many varieties of birds. The infrastructure is good and after the exit there is a small nice eatery of KTDC which serves some good cold non-alcoholic beverages and light refreshments. Overall, it offers a great place to walk under the shade of big trees.

Very nice zoo
Good for kids, nice variety.
Tiger, Lioness, white tiger, Good range of reptiles, leopards, Hippopotamus, enjoyed seeing healthy animals.
Good one time go, if you are with very small kids or old people battery car is a good option.
If you walk it will take 2 Hrs and 1 Hr with a battery car is sufficient.

Me and my kid were bored, so we decided to go to Zoo. As we planned, we were excited to see animals, near by. Especially we both were eager to see the wildest carnivores. After seeing Lions and Tigers in TV, there was an expectation to see them live as I have read in Kenneth Anderson books that they kill and can even carry a young buffalo on ther shoulder back... I wondered if it was possible, but when I saw, I understood it was possible.

Enjoyable place with nature. Place is too clean and properly maintained. No plastics bags and water bottles are allowed. If you definitely need that thing, you may pay fine and they give one sticker for that things. After you exit the gate you show that things to the officer, he will give your money back. I recommend that don't go with plastic bags and bottles. Animals may eat or surrounding may pollute. So avoid please. Keep environment as it is.
Thank you❤️.

The animals are seen at their natural environment. The zoo is really big with many carnivores and herbivores enjoying their freedom within the enclosures. It also showcases many tropical plants and is a miniature forest. One wonderful thing was that there are useful information about the habitat, origin, apart from their scientific names and common names which was very educative. A serious student of biological sciences would find it useful. A must destination for kids with their friends and family. An ideal place for picnics and get-together. The entrance is very modest.

Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is a must-visit for anyone visiting the city. It is a well-maintained zoo with a wide variety of animals, including tigers, monkeys, leopards, lions and more. The grounds are very nicely landscaped and provide a great atmosphere to appreciate all the different animals. The zoo also has a number of educational exhibits, making it a great place to learn about animals, trees and their habitats.
The entry fee is 30 per head.

Nice natural beauty place. Try to arrive at 9 am as much as possible because if you go at that time you can see all the sights without much rush and leave by noon.
📍Leave your bag and other luggage in the cloakroom as there is quite a bit of walking to do.
📍There are various places to relax after a tiring walk and many cold drinks are available inside.

The new Two green anaconda steels the show. Nice place to walk but if you think to take the travel car/cart. It's 800rs per head. Not worth the car. It's worth walking. Very few birds but too many Huge Tigers...

The zoo is serene and calm, lots of different animals and birds to view. A good place for kids to enjoy and rejuvenate.
Personally I feel for the animals, the wild is their call and they should be free in wild. Though they are taken care of they don't have the space to be free, i have visited the zoo probably after decades but i enjoyed it.

The Arulmigu Nellaiappar Temple is a Hindu temple complex constructed in the 17th century. It features two intricate towers that date back to the 7th century and is dedicated to Lord Siva. The temple boasts beautiful architecture, including a music hall where visitors can marvel at pillars representing the 64 notes of the Veena. Tourists are advised to visit early in the morning, between 6 and 7:30 am, to avoid crowds and secure parking.
One of the old temples for lord Siva. Beautiful architecture. Huge temple. You have got to go in the morning and experience the quite temple with just the chantings for the God. Decently clean temple.
Would be good to read up on the temple and all the deities to see and see them and pray to them.
The music hall is a must see. Will leave you in awe to see the way the pillars make the 64 notes of to the Veena.
There is a temple elephant who is really beautiful.
Going to the temple between 6 to 7.30 in the morning is ideal and you will find parking and the temple less crowded.
This temple is not wheelchair accessible. Those elder who will have trouble climbing stairs.

A must visit temple. This is a temple for Swayambhu murthi Sri Nellaiappar (Lord Shiva)and his consort Kanthimathi Ambal.
Uniquely you will find Lord Vishnu in a sleeping pose, next to the Shivan temple - signifying the oneness of Shiva & Vishnu. Understand that once upon a time, these were two separate temples adjacent to each other, but later these two were connected by building necessary structures by the reigning King, leading to a one big temple complex. Here you will find multiple small temples within the complex for Lord Vinayaka, Murugan, Devi, Ayappan, Kasi Viswanathar etc other than the temples for the two main dieties.
The temple is full of unique sculptures including that of animals and demigods. Proof of the high level of artistry and skills the artisans who built the temple had. The main entrance to the temple has lot of unique carvings done on the wooden roof, which you cannot miss. Must see and hear are the "stone pillars" which give out the 7 notes of Carnatic music when tapped with the hand and a few pillars give the sound of south Indian musical instruments - just amazing..
For a huge temple, it's maintained quite well, especially in terms of cleanliness. However, more lighting in a few places would help devotees see and appreciate the amazing and the intricate carving done on stone. Also a better place needs to be made for footwear, currently all footwear are left at the main entrance, making it quite difficult to retrieve yours, they would have moved quite a bit or lying under a pile of other's footwear, when you come back after Darshan.
All said and done if you are passing by Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu, this is a must visit place. Better, plan a trip to this temple.

A very good temple, with a very large area, extremely intricate designs and sculptures. It is one of the best place to visit in thirunelveli as it has an extremely good carvings, idols and atmosphere. This place's serene environment help a person in detaching itself from the regular fast-paced life. A highly devotional environment and a lot of different gods make this place worth visiting.
The 4 star is given due to the attitude and greed of the priests, else this place is worth even more than 5 stars.

We went in at 6am ......the temple was spick and span. People were there but the temple was not crowded.
There are a lot of stories as to how Lord Siva got this name. The one which I connected most to was that they was a famine here and at that time Lord Shiva converted sand grains into food grains there by giving him the name Nellaiappar.

Good Experience - The sanctums of the temple and the gopurams were constructed by Nindraseer Nedumaran (Koon Pandian) who reigned in the 7th century AD. The mani mandapam with its famous musical pillar was also likely built by Nindraseer Nedumaran. The flag stand near the Nandi was set up in 1155.[2]Later Pandya, Kulasekara Pandyan I built the outer wall of the Thirunelveli Nellaiappar temple, in 13th century.

This is one of the classic and typical Temples of Tamil Nadu and exemplifies its culture. Lord Shiva known as Swami Nelliappar and compatriot Lord Gandhimathi Amman are the resting deities. Built in stone which is the innate and traditional way temples are built during olden and golden days. The stone sculptures and stone pillars a Exceptional. Marvelous. Treat to the eyes and mind . The Nellaiappar Temple is Hindu Temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in Tirunelveli, a city in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Shiva is worshipped as Nellaiappar (also called Venuvananathar) represented by the lingam and his consort Parvati is depicted as Kanthimathi Amman. The deity Vishnu is also worshipped here, having witnessed their wedding according to legend. Hence, this temple is regarded as an abhimana kshetram of Vaishnavism. The temple is located on the northern banks of Thamirabarani River in Tirunelveli district.
We had visited during the weekend Sunday. There wasn't much crowd. Main Sanctum Nellaiappar is very powerful, you will feel positive vibes. And his consort called as Kanthimathi Amman.
You get archanai ticket for 5/- bucks per person.
For commuting to this temple if any one staying in hotel stays , I would suggest to go by Local bus. Here auto driver's charge around minimum 100-150 bucks depending on your stay location.
Here the priest don't act rudely, very polite, we get ample time worship the God. They don't rush things in this temple. That's really good.
The sculptures in this temple is just mind-blowing. Highly recommend

Spread across 15 acres , this is one of the finest and largest temples of Tamil Nadu . And a treasure trove of Art . The ancient Pandyan shrine has been renewed , renovated and expanded by successive dynasties like Cholas, Cheras, Madurai Nayakas etc. , so the art and architecture seen here is an interrsting mix of styles. Since the region is close to Kerala , beautifully intricate woodwork can also be seen. In addition to life sized sculptures , Musical Pillars are an attraction.
Presiding deity Shiva is called Venuvananathar or Nellaiappar and Parvathi , who has an independent sanctum, is Kanthimathi Amman. Religious significance : It is revered as the Thamira Sabha ( Copper Pavilion) , one of the five Sabhas where Nataraja danced his Ananda Thandavam .
Six-time daily worship and annual Festivals are celebrated with great pomp.
It is a :padal petra sthalam , sung by Nayanars .

Nallaiappar swamiand Kanthimadhi Tayaar temple in Tiruneveli is an awesome Shivaite temple. Probably the sabctul was built in 7th century by Pandya king to which the Cholas, Cheras,Pallavas and Nayaka have added making it one of the largest and beautiful Shiva temple.
The surprise part us the large, beautiful ornamental idol of Lord Vishu in sleeping position immediately next to main deities gudi. Apparently Shiva and Parvathi got married here and Vishnu as being Parvathis brother after attending the marriage was resting.
It's the Tamara copper sabha, one of the 5 sabhas where Shiva has performed his cosmic dance. The sculpture in the entrance and vasantha mandapa is so realistic that it takes away your breath. A true treasure of our culture. Donating vibhuti is very auspicious.

This temple has power to bless you from all the sins you did in your life.

The Janardhana Temple in Varkala, Kerala, is believed to be built by Devas but fell into disrepair and was later rebuilt by a Pandya king. It's an ancient temple with a 2000-year history situated on a steep hill at the entrance of Beach Road. The temple showcases Kerala's art and architecture with a circular 'Sanctum sanctorum' topped by a copper dome, a rectangular mandapam featuring wooden carvings of navagrahas, and a copper-clad roof. The chief priest, a Tulu Brahmin, comes from outside the region. Sub-deities include Ganapati, Shasta, Anantha (Nagam) Shiva, Chandikesha, and Hanuman. Visitors must adhere to dress codes, and it's noteworthy that the Lord is adorned in different avatars daily, making the temple a major pilgrimage center with a captivating history and spiritual ambiance.

Mid December to Mid Jan is the peak season. From the cliff view is great and there is stairs to reach down the beach from cliff. If your looking for a calm n peaceful weekend, Varkala is a great place to explore. There is alot to see.

A place very similar to goa. The cliff is spread across the shoreline. On one side you have this beautiful blue sea view and on the other side it's a colourful chaotic lane full of beautiful cafes and shops.

Cliff beaches 🏝️ are rare in Kerala and this the one and only cliff beach of god’s own country. The place and the beach are so nice. There are so many restaurants on the edge of that cliff. Overall the area gave me a vibe of Goa. Not exactly like Goa 😅
I visited this place during an off season and also a monsoon time. So the ocean was so hostile. The authorities have prohibited the entry to the beach.

I would recommend using scooty or small cars up to this place as there is not much parking space near the cliff. One can park on the road side. On the north side of the cliff, lot of cafes, resorts and shops are there which one can explore at leisure. The beach is accessible from here. Great place to sit and watch sunset.

One of the best Cliff Beach in Kerala. The Cliff in Varkala shore is good for walk, fun and spend nice time. It's a stretch of approximately 2 to 3 km of cliff, most of home stays, Hotels, Cafe and shopping are on this stretch. It extends between helipad and black sand beach.

Beach is very beautiful and one of famous foreigners visiting beach in kerala, beat time is evening and night. Lot of free parking space and lot shops are there like textiles shop, footwear shops, handicrafts shops, perfume shops, hotels, cafes, bear bars, live music cafes, tatooo shops etc and very bad thing is bevare of streat dogs.
Varkala Beach is located amidst tall cliffs and boasts natural springs. The beach's waters are believed to have purifying properties that can absolve sins. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the cliffside. The warm water makes it a pleasant spot for swimming, although tides can be rough at times so caution is advised. However, the beach is quite touristy with numerous yoga students and practitioners frequenting its shores.
Stunning views from the cliffside above. Beautiful beach with warm water. This was my favorite in Kerala. Great shops and restaurants on the path, high above, overlooking the beach. A bit touristy, lots of yoga students and practitioners. Good vibes but also lots of heavy selling to tourists. Great place to pick up any forgotten yoga gear or some spiritual beach reading. There is garbage on the cliffside but this is common in India, where waste management is lacking. Therefore, that thing brushing up against your leg in the ocean is probably a piece of plastic or refuse from a bag of chips, rather than a fish. The water and tides can be quite rough, at times, so it is best to stay near the shore.

Palaruvi Waterfalls is a picturesque destination with a scenic view of water cascading down the cliffs. A walkway leads to a viewing platform and picnic areas, though it can get crowded at times. Visitors have to pay 50 rupees per head for the bus ride to reach the waterfall, with an equal charge for parking. The site requires climbing some stairs to get closer to the waterfall, but currently, its bathing location is under renovation.
Check between June and mid-October for the finest experience. Please take note that admittance closes at 4.30 p.m. There is no parking for personal automobiles inside. The forest bus pass, which is accessible at the counter, must be obtained, taking a 15–minute bus ride. You can obtain a close look of the falls by walking upward for 5–10 minutes Enjoy the natural shower because there are changing rooms accessible. The swimming and bathing area is under restoration and is not close to the waterfall.

A nice location to chill!!! But probably it will be crowded. A bus will take us to to the waterfall. Ticket cost is ₹50 per head, parking charges also same. It has some steps to climb to get to get a close view. The bathing/swimming location is not near the waterfall, its currently on renovation. Place is still restarting after pandemic.

From there we will taken by buses of forest department for 4km & dropped @ a point. There a good tea & snacks shop here. From here we have to trek a little bit to reach upto waterfall area. There is ladies changing rooms near the falls. Great experience & really fulfilling.

Palaruvi waterfalls was an amazing experience.
We went there from Tamil Nadu. Buses were easily available that went directly to the waterfalls stop. We didn’t know Malayalam but somehow managed to communicate in English with the forest rangers who were very helpful.
Private vehicles are not allowed beyond the entry point.
A shuttle bus is provided which takes us to the waterfalls.
The ticket price is 70₹ per person.
The way to the waterfalls is quite scenic.
Coming to the waterfalls itself , there are changing rooms available for ladies and separate places for families and men.
You can get into the water where you can enjoy as much as possible. There are rangers everywhere for safety. The place is very clean and the rangers continuously keep it clean and tidy.
I must say this is one of the best tourist spots I have visited and I am giving it a 5 star.
This is a must go if you like nature and waterfalls.

Wow! Very Nice place and Waterfalls. Palaruvi gave us such a good experience that we thought we had not been here for so many days. Looking at this place it seemed that the Kerala tourism department has maintained it in a very beautiful way. When we went, the water was rushing very fast in the waterfall. It is a very beautiful moment.. It is a very beautiful place to see and enjoy..We came as friends and decided that next time we should bring everyone with family..Only one hour is allowed. However, isn't an hour enough in that beautiful place? That is the only minor disappointment but everything else is very beautiful..

Palaruvi is under the maintenance of the kerala government. It has parking facilities. We have to park our vehicles beast the ticket counter area and from there we’ll be taken to the falls through their bus. Once we reach there we can have coffee or snacks in their canteen . From there we need to walk some steps to have a bath in palaruvi waterfalls. As the steps are of rocks it might be hard for old people but during our visit I saw many old people climbed it effortlessly. So they can take rest in middle and reach the falls. There is a dressing room for women which is quite neat. So ladies can use them but must have the belongings safe as there are monkeys around .

Falls in the middle of Kerala forest is well maintained and clean, strict rules are enforced about not throwing plastic and waste about, which is a good initiative. Few pointers
1. You need to take only the local forest bus up to the falls so you need to buy tickets. During the day, queues can be quite long. So go early or ensure one person from your group stands in line before another buys the tickets
2. There is a small cafe where the bus drops you off near the falls. Limited items available. You may have a long wait before you are able to actually get what you paid for.
3. The walk up to the falls and even down to the bathing area is very uneven and slippery at times, so be careful while walking.
4. The view point at the top is beautiful, although a very steep walk ahead
5. There is a changing room for the women, which is a huge plus point.
6. If visiting during day, advised to carry enough water and small snacks while you wait to get on the bus.
7. Treat people with respect! And don’t be a nuisance!
Beautiful views, nice memories to create 😀 worth the visit if you’re up to quite a hike.

This is one of the best waterfall I have seen in South India. Ample of parking space available that to inside the jungle. You have to take the entry ticket and then you have to get inside the government bus which will take you to the waterfall which is approximately 3-4 km from parking. When we went there there was heavy water flow which was mesmerizing. but the bathing area is little small so that in case of heavy crowd they will allow only for 1 hour for one group.. beware of the monkees out there..

There are 4 buses taking to the water falls. The entry fee is Rs 50 per person and parking cost Rs 50 for car. Overall great experience and good place to visit.

Milk flowing from up the sky, palaruvi waterfalls literally give this feel. From the ticket counter to the waterfall it's 4 km distance. Only 4 buses operated by the forest department commutes the visitors to and fro the waterfalls located at a pretty good height up in the mountains. 70 rupees per head is the charge plus 60 rupees for car parking. Keeping water bottles handy will be useful. There is only one small tea and snacks cafe operated by the Kerala Forest department staffs which is crowded usually and takes time to fetch a small cup of tea or banana fry like snacks. Those who come prepared to take a shower in the waters flowing from the falls can enjoy amidst the crowds. The falls go fully functional only during steady rainy season. It takes minimum 1hr 20 minutes to just see take pictures and come back from, including the waiting time to board the bus.

Palaruvi is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Kollam district. I reached around 3 pm, the place was pretty crowded because of the holiday. The view from the top of the small rock cascade is serene and the water is so cool. You can bathe under the waterfall if the water level is low. The rock in the down can be a bit slippery as well.
To reach here, you can use, public transportation or a Pvt vehicle. The ticket will cost around 75 rs per person. Palaruvi is located 4km from the ticket counter, so they offer a small bus ride, inside the forest, that's wonderful to go through.
The best time of the season is after the monsoons and avoid dry seasons. If you want to bathe, consider taking towels because I didn't see many souvenir places around.

Palaruvi is one of the best waterfalls in kerala the name of the waterfall is 100 percent suited for the view of this waterfall. The water flowing looks like milk falling from the top. Palaruvi is situated 4-5 km inside of the main road. There is a lot of parking space in the jungle near the parking space there is a ticket counter. We can pay and collect the tickets from the counter and wait for their bus for 10-20 minutes. They don't allow our own vehicle to reach the waterfall they provide government buses for transportation. The waterfall is 3-4 km away from the parking space. The water flow rate is low because we went there in february first week which is not a rainy season. In rainy season the water flows rate increases and there is a rush occurs due to the visitors. There are 3 bathing spaces allotted for family, gents and ladies. Beware of the slippery rocks and monkeys both are dangerous in some situations.

A lift is available up to 3/4 of the tower and rest of the tower is reachable with narrow and steep steps. The spectacular 360 degrees panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and splendor of the backwaters and Kollam city is a treat to the eyes.

Entry time: 10 am to 6 pm
Entry fees: Rs. 20 for adults. Rs. 10 for children. Extra fees for mobile and camera photography.
We parked outside as we did not see any dedicated parking space.
You can reach the top of the lighthouse either by climbing stairs or taking the lift. Usually you'll have to wait 5-10 min in a queue to get into the lift.
At the top, you get an exhilarating view of the coastline, the harbour and the distant sea. You feel at peace, gazing at waves crashing on the shoreline, and the cool sea breeze brushing against your face, before the watchman shoos you and tells you to keep moving.

Thangassery light house is a wonderful place to spend during evening time. The ticket fair is 20 rupees per head for adults and 10 rs per head for kids. Monday holiday.
I went during evening time and had a very good experience. Everyone is allowed to stay on the top of the lighthouse for 10-15 minutes (may vary according to the crowd during your day of visit).
On the top of the lighthouse, the view is a must experience one. The view facing the sea is wonderful.
There is a small kids park at the feet of the lighthouse.
In front of the lighthouse there is a 2 km pathway through the sea. The ticket fair is 10-20 per head. The pathway is a very photogenic place.
If possible add Thangassery lighthouse to your travel plan in kollam.

It's one of the best place to visit in Kollam.
Due to pandemic they are not allowing the visitors, but it's one of the best place to visit.
You can have a great view from outside it really looks beautiful from a long distance, on the way to this lighthouse you can also see a Fort which is completely destroyed and a single wall alone is there.

Situated near to Thankasheri St Thomas fort. Ticket costs 10 rupees per person plus 30 for mobile camera. It looks so simple until you start climbing the steps. Last part is a vertical ladder. Also there is a elevator inside the light house.
The visuals from the top of the light house is priceless and very attractive. The best time to go is in the evening. Good for friends and couples. If you go along with kids, even though it's good you have to be very careful. You can see overall view of Fort also.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Lighthouse, and I must say it was a truly unforgettable experience. Nestled along the breathtaking coastline, this lighthouse offers a unique combination of beauty and thrill that is hard to find elsewhere. Here's my review of the Lighthouse:
First and foremost, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Lighthouse had a lift facility. This made the journey to the top much more accessible and convenient for visitors of all ages and physical abilities. The presence of a lift ensures that even those who may struggle with climbing stairs can still enjoy the panoramic views from the lighthouse.
I highly recommend visiting the Lighthouse during the evening hours. Not only does it provide a stunning backdrop for capturing memorable photos, but it also offers a respite from the scorching daytime heat. The cooler weather adds to the overall pleasant experience, allowing visitors to explore the lighthouse comfortably.
While the Lighthouse's top observation area may have limited space, this in no way diminishes the awe-inspiring view that awaits you. As you ascend to the summit, the anticipation builds, and once you reach the top, you're greeted by sweeping vistas of the surrounding coastline. The unobstructed views of the shimmering sea and the rugged cliffs are simply breathtaking, making the climb well worth the effort.
However, I must warn you that climbing the Lighthouse can be a somewhat intimidating experience. The narrow staircases and steep steps add an element of excitement and adventure, but they may also evoke a sense of fear, especially for those with a fear of heights. If you're up for a thrilling challenge, climbing the Lighthouse will surely get your heart racing.
Overall, my visit to the Lighthouse was a delightful and unforgettable experience. The combination of the lift facility, the cool evening weather, and the awe-inspiring views made it a must-visit attraction. Whether you're seeking a scenic adventure or simply want to soak in the beauty of the coastline, the Lighthouse offers an enchanting experience that will leave you in awe.
I highly recommend visiting the Lighthouse, but do remember to check the operating hours and plan your visit accordingly. Enjoy the beautiful vistas and embrace the thrill of climbing to the top

Tangasseri Lighthouse or Thangassery Lighthouse is situated at Tangasseri in Kollam city of the Indian state of Kerala.
They charge(cost) around ₹10/person for going to light house and it opens from 10Am to 5PM.
The coastal views for the top of light house are amazing you should try once.
Also from the seaside you can watch the sunset extremely pleasing.
You can also see the waves crashing at the rocks nearby at the seashore.
You can go there from Kollam Railway station by an auto from there. As such no bus service directly to that place.
There is also a small park there.

Thangassery Light House is a must-visit attraction in Kollam, Kerala. The lighthouse is a signature of Thangassery and offers a breathtaking view of the breakwater and small fishing harbor. The fishing boats here are very colorful and so are the houses we see from here. There is a lift that takes you most of the way up, but if you don’t need one, I would recommend walking up the steps and spending time at the windows. The lighthouse is well-maintained and the old equipment is well-preserved and taken care of.

Must visit spot at Kollam. This lighthouse is just 3 km away from Kollam railway station. The lighthouse is equipped with lift which will take you upto some height. The remaining stairs are very steep, not recommended for aged people. View from the top is amazing. There is a play area for kids nearby. Both lighthouse and kids play area closes at 6:00 PM. There is a small shop within the premises which provides with fresh juice and homemade ice candies which is worth the price.

One of the best experiences I've had visiting a national park, they have numerous activities planned, creating a balance between sustainable tourism and a fun experience.
While visiting the national park one has to remember that your safety is of utmost priority for officials and also that these national parks are the last remaining undisturbed homes of these few remaining wild animals. Hence their ways have to be protected, which is why officials have in place certain rules and regulations which have to be followed at all times. Rest you are in great hands, these guys will try their best to give you the most wonderful experience of the national park, however since it's a huge national park 925 sq. Kms to be precise you may or may not spot "the tiger".
Having visited 12 national parks till now, I can tell you with experience that it's not always about "the tiger" or "the elephant" or "the rhino". National parks are an abode of nature, they are the closest demonstrations of a world without urbanization, jungle life to be precise. And that is their precious offering which one can appreciate above all.
I would recommend nature walks for people who have less time, border walk or full day trek for people with trekking experience and a day to spare. However my favourite was tiger trail a 1/2 night stay depending upon your choice.
It's the best experience.

The periyar tiger reserve boat ride gives you the chance to be in nature.
Try to get the boat ride tickets for 7:30AM to 9 AM. The weather will be pleasant and less rush for the ride. Carry pullover or sweater with you, as it will be cooler as we go deeper in the lake.
The chances of seeing wildlife is very rare.
However, you get chance to get witness the beautiful scenery.
Please ensure you arrive at the ticket counter at 45 minutes before the ride time. Buses will take to boat landing point which is around 4KM from ticket counter.
Online booking is available which will help you to jump the queue and save lot of your time.

Beautiful fog in the morning,Nature walk at that time is awesome.

The place itself is amazing in all other ways.

Boat ride is purely based on luck and when you go. If you are lucky you will see more animals. They have other activities such as tiger trail, nature walk, night trail so on. Enquire and book before going.
I booked a slot at 11:15. Expected it to be scorching hot, but it was a very pleasant boat ride. The boat had a roof and it was full windy. But was not lucky enough to see any animals other than few sambhar deers.

This national park is extremely awesome! Went for the Nature Walk.
Our guide Vinod took us on an adventure which I’m very thankful for. He explained everything in detail and took good care of us.
We were very lucky and saw elephants twice. The second time it was a group of 4 and one of them was a baby about 5 month old. They were blocking the footpath and Vinod organised a small boat for us to get back.

The morning batch boating is best if you want to some wild animals. Our forest department and government should consider early boating like at 6.00 AM and also evening boating after 5.00 PM. It's will give more possibility to see wild animals .

Very nice Ghat section with huge trees and floral. It's better to walk from the entrance check post to the Thekkady Boating, if you would like to feel refreshed and energized.
We were there early in the morning and started walking in, instead of waiting for the Forest department bus. It was a very pleasant walk, breathing fresh aromatic air.
There are a few selfie spots and art work on the way. There was a turtle shaped Cafe, which was closed, but looked very nice.

We travelled from our hotel to their pick up point where we found the buses.
After arriving at the pick up point you need to buy the tickets for the national park and bus ride. Then they take you to the boating point from where the you can access the boats.
You can buy binoculars here for viewing the animals that are hidden in the dense forest.
They cost around Rs.50 and Rs 1000 deposit along with your ID card.
Then the boat ride starts at their estimated time, takes you for a 60-90 minutes ride around the lake.
You can find few wildlife to see their if you are lucky enough. We could only see a few deers on the entire boat ride.
According to me, the ride was not worth it as the boat was very slow and most of the people where bored sitting in there as they couldn't find any wildlife to see around.
Also, you can book tickets online for the Periyar tiger reserve, but you can also find offline tickets as 20% of the tickets are sold offline.
You can just skip this National Park if you are in a hurry.

And also experience the night life in the jungle. The boating experience was also very good

It is very peaceful on the water, but suggest making sure you get a water side seat on the more modern boats.
Watching the monkeys playing and trying to steal food was fun. The gift shop was very reasonably priced.
You will likely see some birds and deer, but not much else in the boat trip, but you never know….

Did border trekking in a group of 6, with two guides and one riffle man. Beautiful views, lots of birds, we've also seen multiple bison, deer and an elephant family with a baby.
Trek itself is very doable, no major ascents, but it's a long day from 8am to 4pm with 2 solid breaks.
Wear good shoes, long trousers, lots of sunscreen, hat. They provide decent lunchbox, fruit and water (and backpack to carry it), but we also used up water we brought, total 1.5L per person.
Rs 2000 per person for trek and Rs 500 for park entry. Don't think they allow to go without the guide since there are wild animals and the path is not really visible.

Beautifully green park that has over 500 elephants and 45 tigers. I did the border hiking I booked online on the official site. The hike ended up being great, the guide and guard were so knowledgeable about the local fauna and flora, we even spotted 2 elephants again up close along with many other small animals. They explained that this is one of the activities they do as part of ecotourism so there are always people activity like in the 3 night tiger trek and others to discourage illegal mining and poaching.

It's a must visit place. Atmosphere is very peaceful inside the temple. Surrounded by plants and trees. This was the first time I watched traditional "navpor paattu" , 2 moorthi's are the main prathishtta of the temple.
Don't be fooled by local people who are selling offering for lords, because this time fooled by them. First we will think that how good n nice people are they, but actually some are so trickeries. For me the experience was like this:-
We reached the temple's back door, actually the temple is surrounded by small shops which sella offerings to God and toys, accessories, etc. So after we reached there we don't know where to go, we juz asked him about the way, he directed the way to front gate and also he say some stories and offerings which should given to God. Firstly he told it's about 170/_ he was very intelligent business man he convinced us and told don't give the money right now give it once to people leav the place. Then we bought two of the items and went inside. While we reached front gate there were so many shops inside and outside the temple premises. The "Darshanm" was very good, it made my mind peace and blessed feelings. A lot of Parking facility is available inside the temple's compound itself. After that we bought some rings and accessories. Then we were about leave, so we went to that boy then he told the price is 480/_ we were like 🙄 then he is telling some calculations and all, And he also said that if you don't have money give it some day else, this is also his trick because nobody dare to do that, it's about GOD everyone will scared and give, so the same happened we gave him the money and went back. So only thing I wanna say is don't be cheated by people like this. You can buy offerings wherever you want, but don't be cheated by people. I think it's better to buy it from devosm vazhipaaadu counter. One thing is we won't be cheated.

Very calm, peaceful atmosphere surrounded by sacred groves in which the Serpent Gods are believed to be dwelling. Here, we can offer പുറ്റും മുട്ടയും (puttum muttayum), Naagaroopam (figurine of Serpent God made in metals like silver)apart from common offerings like silk cloth, sesame oil, Camphor etc. Noorum paalum (നൂറും പാലും) is a famous vazhipad here. Another famous vazhipad is Uruli Kamazhthal, doing for having children. Thulabharam is also done here. We can see Pulluvan Patt here, worship done by Pulluvars to remove Sarpa doshas of one who offering the prayers. It is in the form of song, accompanied by an instrument called Pulluvan Veena. We can do this for ourself and our family members. Whoever wants the prayer, we have to tell the name and birth star of them to the Pulluvan. Sundays seem to be very crowded here.
Nagarajavu and Nagayakshiyamma are the main deities here. We can have darshan of Amma also. Amma is chosen from the illam related to temple and is belived as mother of the Serpant Gods.
We can get Appam, and payasam from counter outside temple.

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Kshetram, located in southwestern Kerala, (alappuzha) is a revered ancient pilgrimage site, especially known for serpent worship. It's considered one of the most significant and legendary serpent worship places globally. The temple's history is intertwined with Lord Parasurama, the founder of Kerala, who sought atonement for his sins. He gifted land to Brahmins and propitiated Varuna Deva to acquire it.
A major celebration at Mannarasala is the renowned Mannarasala Ayilyam, held in the Malayalam month of Thulam. Its prominence arises from a historical event when the Maharaja of Travancore rescheduled his visit, bringing grandeur to the Thulam Ayilyam celebration.
Ayilyam days in Kanni and Kumbham are celebrated with enthusiasm. It's a place steeped in spirituality and tradition, making it a must-visit destination for those interested in Kerala's rich heritage.
The temple is indeed a nature-friendly place. It features a serene kaavu (sacred grove) and a peaceful pond within the temple premises. These natural elements enhance the overall ambiance of the temple, creating a peaceful environment for devotees and visitors. The presence of a kaavu and a pond reflects a deep respect for nature and its integral role in the spiritual experience at the temple.

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Kshetram is an ancient pilgrimage centre situated in south-west Kerala.blessed and envisaged by Lord Parasurama, the creator of Kerala. The evolution of Mannarasala as the supreme place of worship of the serpent Gods is associated with Parasurama, the son of Jamadagini and a descendant of Bhrigu. When Parasurama decided to seek atonement from the sin of killing the Kshatriyas, he approached the holy Rishis. They suggested that he should make a gift of a land of his own to the Brahmins. Parasurama propitiated Varuna Deva (the Lord of the Seas) to get some land for himself. Varuna appeared before and advised him to throw his parasu, the axe which Lord Siva had given him, into the sea to reclaim land. He throws it and raises a piece of land from the sea and gives it as a gift to the Brahmins. This land is believed to be the present-day Kerala.( information taken from official website) photography not allowed inside temple. You must try payasam and appam which is very tasty
Periyar Lake, also known as Thekkady Lake, is a serene and vast man-made lake located within the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala. A 1.5-hour boat ride offers splendid views of the surrounding nature and wildlife, including deer, goats, bisons, otters, and various bird species. Visitors are advised to be cautious of mischievous monkeys known for snatching belongings.
Serene lake with splendid views.
Catch early morning boat rides and the chances of viewing wild animals are more.
We were lucky to view elephants crossing the lake by swimming.
Photo enthusiasts can take great pictures of birds as well.
Queues are quite longer for the boat ride tickets and hence suggest going early in the morning.
Besides the boat ride there is not much but you can spend hours or more with kids and return.

One of the most beautiful locations in Kerala. The lake is spread over a vast area. Its a man made lake (Result of a Dam) . Boat ride is very good. Can get a chance to see number of Species of Birds and Animals. Take the jungle trail to get really close to the nature. Very popular among the tourists.

Visited this lake the first time in 2008 and went boating but found the experience very average. The boats were also very unsafe and very badly managed.
This time when i went with family it was good too see that the boats are now better managed and it's much safer. The lake is beautiful and the ride is good. However, of you don't see many animals, which you may not , don't get disappointed. It's how it is. There is good bird spotting though. Overall a doable visit if in thekkady. But don't go if you're expecting to see tigers and elephants.

One of the most famous lakes in Kerala is in Periyar. The Periyar Lake is often also referred to as the Thekkady Lake. However, its unmistakable location inside the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary has ensured that it’s widely known by the name of Periyar Lake. Governed by the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department, the lake sees footfalls of hundreds of thousands each year.
Interestingly, this lake was created artificially when Kerala’s longest river, Periyar or Mullaperiyar, was dammed in 1895. The Mullaperiyar Dam formed the present day Periyar Lake which is spread across 10 square miles or 26 square kilometres.
This reservoir is famous for its water birds which can be observed from close quarters when you go boating on the lake. Periyar Lake is inside a protected area and contributes to the conservation of plants, fowl, fish and wild animals, some of which are rare, endemic and also endangered.
Periyar Lake Timings & Fee for Boating
Although the timings for boating in the Periyar Lake and its charges are separate from that of the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary, one has to first enter the national park to be able to access the lake. Therefore, you pay two sets of entry fees and adhere to both the timings.
The park is open in all seasons from 6 AM to 7 PM every day. For Indians, the entry fee is INR 45 for adults and INR 15 for kids, whereas for foreigners, the fee is INR 500 for adults and INR 180 for kids. Additionally, still cameras are charged INR 38 and video cameras, INR 300. Binoculars are available on rent at INR 50, with a 100-rupee security deposit. These come particularly handy in sighting birds and animals that are far off.
Now, the Periyar Lake levies a charge of INR 225 for adults and INR 75 for children for each boat ride which lasts for an hour and a half. There are designated timings for boating: 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:15 AM, 1:45 PM and 3:30 PM. Mornings are recommended for birders whereas afternoon slots are highly conducive to sightings of wild animals who reach the lake to quench their thirst.
History Behind the Periyar Lake
While the Periyar National Park goes far back in time, the lake has its own history. In 1895, the Mullaperiyar Dam was built over the Periyar River. A few years later, in 1899, the Periyar Lake Reserve was formed through the efforts of this masonry gravity dam. The lake remained mostly untouched while the surrounding forested area saw a slew of change in ownership and status from that of a private game reserve to a wildlife sanctuary, and to finally a national park.
Layout of Periyar Lake
The Periyar Lake is located at the centre of the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary. It covers a total area of 10 square miles or 26 square kilometres. The lake has the lowest altitude in the Periyar forest complex, at 100 metres above the sea level.
This lake is the final drainage reservoir for the Periyar River, which is the longest in Kerala. Also the Mullayar River can be said to be a contributor to the waters of the Periyar Lake as it is also dammed by the Mullaperiyar Dam which sits at the confluence of both the rivers.
The waters of the Periyar Lake further drain out to the state of Tamil Nadu and partially to the Kerala district of Idukki, through the Idukki Dam which fills the Idukki Lake.

Beautiful ferry ride. To enjoy beauty of nature please go in first ferry 7.30 am.
Seen bison and Elephant on distant hill.
Beware of Monkeys...
First you have to buy entrance ticket and ride ticket to boat station. As private cars are not allowed to enter in forest. Then from boat station buy boat rides tickets.

Well organized & maintained forest reserve. Gov. Buses will take you to the lake side with minimal charges but avoid long weekends & public holidays.. too crowded than..boat ride is of 90 mins roaming around the Periyar lake & if lucky may see some wild animals.. Inquire abt the jungle track, night Safari etc. Good options available..

Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Swamy Temple is an Indian Hindu temple dedicated to Krishna at Ambalapuzha in Alappuzha district of Kerala. The temple is believed to have been built during 15th century AD by the local ruler Chembakasserry Pooradam Thirunal-Devanarayanan Thampuran. It is one of the seven greatest temples in Travancore
The idol at Ambalapuzha is likened to Parthasarthi form of Vishnu, holding a whip in his right hand and a conch in his left. During the raids of Tipu Sultan in 1789, the idol of Sri Krishna from the Guruvayoor Temple was brought to the Ambalapuzha Temple for safe keeping for three years.
Payasam, a sweet pudding made of rice and milk is served in the temple and is believed that the Lord Guruvayoorappan visits the temple daily to accept the offering.

The temple is easily accessible from the railway station. There are some hotels and home-stays nearby but choices are limited. You must be willing to spend quite some time at the temple in order to get the famous Amabalappuzha paal payasam.

Near to Ambalapuzha railway station.
They start doing some pooja around 11.00 A.M which goes on till 12.30 P.M, hence giving you little time for darsan.
No Darsan Time between 12.00 PM to 12.30 PM.
Reach before 11.00 A.M to have more darsan time and enjoy the beautiful, breezy atmosphere
Men have to remove their shirts, while they allow women wearing shirts. Don't know what Idiotic Traditional Logic they follow..???

One of the most famous and most important temples in Kerala because of Ambalapuzha Srikrishna Temple is directly connected to Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Temple , During the invasion of Tipu Sultan in 1789, the idol of Sri Krishna in Guruvayoor Temple was carried to Ambalappuzha Temple for safe custody. The idol was seated on the south nada at Ambalapuzha. That location is now known as Guruvayoor Nada . The payasam served at the temple is of immense importance to the devotees and it is believed that Guruvayoor himself visits here to have the payasam, Distribution of the palpayasam is on a first-come-first-served basis from the prasadam delivery counter. Kadathanadan Kalari Centre is a traditional Indian martial arts performance venue that is 8 mi (12.8 km) from central Kumily. The Mudra Cultural Centre is just a short walk away and the Kalari show was well worth seeing. Five stars for the Kalari show, although the Kathakali show was not as impressive. Well done to all the artists involved and I would definitely recommend people travelling to Kumily/Thekkady to see the exhibit.

My recent visit to Thekkady Kalari Centre was a fantastic experience I will always remember. The center is located in the beautiful region of Thekkady in Kerala and offers visitors the opportunity to witness Kalaripayattu or Kalari, an ancient martial art of the region. The hour-long program was both exciting and educational, and I was thoroughly impressed by the level of expertise and training that the performers displayed.
The performers showcased their incredible fitness and acrobatic abilities throughout the performance. It was remarkable to see how fast they moved, how strong they were, and how high they jumped. Every movement was executed with great precision and focus, exemplifying how well-trained the performers were in their craft. The stunts they performed were not only impressive but also fascinating as they demonstrated the central techniques of Kalaripayattu. I was thoroughly entertained throughout the show, and it was an excellent opportunity to learn about Indian martial art forms.
What made the performance even more fantastic was the participation of volunteers from the audience mid-way through the show. The performers taught the audience the basic techniques used in Kalaripayattu, which the volunteers could then use to perform a short sequence. It was a great way to engage the audience and make them an active part of the performance.
At the end of the show, the performers interacted with the audience, answering any questions we had and posing for pictures. It was great to be able to meet the talented individuals responsible for putting on such a memorable show. The performers were warm and gracious, and it was a privilege to talk to them.
Overall, my visit to Thekkady Kalari Centre was an exceptional experience. It offered me the chance to learn about Kalaripayattu, an ancient art form that I was not familiar with before. I was amazed at the dedication and skill of the performers, and it was an inspiring experience to see them perform. The participation of audience volunteers added a fun and interactive element to the show, making it all the more exciting. I would highly recommend a visit to Thekkady Kalari Centre for anyone who wants to see a unique and impressive art form up-close.

Absolutely memorable cultural experience. Both Kalari and Kathakali performances were amazing. I even got to get into the Kalari arena and participate with the performers. My daughter was called on stage for Kathakali for a demo that she totally enjoyed. This was the highlight of our 4 day tour in Kerala.
Only feedback for improvement is the presenter for Kalari could have done better (show on Jun 10, 2022). Although he narrated in English very enthusiastically, it was very hard to understand.

A must visit place in Thekady. The showcase of the martial art is epic. I would say Kathakali dance show could have been better. The way the martial art stunts were performed were mind blowing. If you are in Thekady please don’t miss this show. It’s close to the Periyar national reserve. There are shows starting from 5 PM. We booked two shows back to back. 5 PM-6 PM Kathakali & then 6 PM - 7 PM martial arts. All the events are in the same campus. You will need to walk out from one auditorium to another.
The prices are reasonable & they charge around 400 per person for one show. So both shows together will cost 800 per person. We purchased the tickets in the morning itself for the evening show. Please buy the tickets in advance so that you will get seats in the front row.
The place has huge amount of parking space. So you won’t need to worry for the parking.

I recently had the pleasure of going on an elephant ride and experiencing an elephant bath and feeding session, and it was an incredible and unforgettable experience. The interaction with these majestic creatures allowed me to connect with nature in a unique and meaningful way.
It was an incredible opportunity to witness the beauty of nature up close and personal.
After the ride, I had the chance to engage in an elephant bath and feed, which was equally as amazing. Getting into the water with these magnificent animals was both thrilling and humbling. Watching them happily splash around and play in the water was a joy to behold.
Feeding the elephants was another highlight of the experience. Being able to offer them their favorite treats and seeing their appreciation and gratitude was heartwarming. It was incredible to witness their intelligence and gentle nature as they carefully took the food from my hand. It truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Had an amazing experience at Elephant Junction. It was my first time experiencing these mammoths this close. There are 4 female elephants at Elephant Junction which were rescued from circus and are now taken care at this facility. They offer elephant ride - which is a short 20-25mins ride through the plush cardamom plantations. They also have an option to bath the elephant and have a bath with the elephant. What I specifically liked about this place is that they always give priority to the animals and not the tourists. All these animals are well taken care of at this facility. If in Thekkady, this place should not be missed.

Nice place. The rides are nice but a little costly in the amount of money they charge. Sometimes the wait times are almost an hour or more but those who love animal rides, it's worth it. The elephants looked old and likely because they will be less aggressive than the younger ones. Safe rides and will be a fun with family. The staff was friendly and they provided all requested information.

If you’re visiting Thekkady you must visit Elephant junction. Make sure that you put this on your to do list. You won’t regret it. The place is well maintained, very clean and hygienic. All the staff (and when I say staff I would also like to include the elephants) are very friendly, helpful and very kind. They really made sure that we have fun and also connect with the elephants. A lot of information regarding elephants was also shared during the whole visit which I really appreciate. It was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to everyone who is planning to visit Thekkady.
P.S Make sure you carry an extra pair of clothes if you’re going to go for the elephant bath.

In Thekkady, we explored a place called Elephant Junction, and it was a fantastic experience. First of all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The elephant ride was excellent and enjoyable. And the Elephant (Meena) was just fantastic. My son was very happy and enjoyed a lot. Will tell our friends about this place. An unforgettable experience overall.

Elephant Junction, Thekkady is a wonderful place to visit if you love elephants and want to interact with them. It is located in Kumily, near Thekkady, and offers various activities such as elephant rides, feeding, bathing, and showering. You can choose from different packages depending on your time and budget.
I visited Elephant Junction with my wife and we had a lovely time. The staff was very courteous and helpful, and they provided us with all the necessary equipment and instructions. We opted for the 30-minute ride, which was very enjoyable and relaxing. We got to see the natural beauty of the area and feel the gentle breeze. The elephants were very friendly and well-trained, and they seemed to enjoy our company as well. We had a lot of fun taking pictures with them and admiring their beauty.
The price was reasonable for the quality and duration of the experience. We paid INR 500 per person, which was worth every rupee. The park was clean and well-maintained, and they followed all the safety and hygiene protocols. We did not face any issues or problems during our visit.
Overall, we had a fantastic time at Elephant Junction, Thekkady and we would highly recommend it to anyone who loves elephants and wants to have a memorable experience with them. It is a perfect place to visit with your spouse, and it will make you appreciate the beauty and intelligence of these gentle giants. It is a must-do activity in Thekkady.

The best place in Kerala, maybe India, to spend time close to elephants. You can ride, feed bananas, watch them carry timber, bath them and finally have a clean shower from the trunk.
Staff are very kind and knowledgeable. Elephants are healthy, happy, no chains.
If you take the elephant bath and shower, the staff provide a clean towel, a plastic bag for wet clothes and a place to change and wash yourself. Excellent service. Can take tea or coffee afterwards in the little pavilion and enjoy the quiet.
Whole place in a quiet peaceful forest outside of Kumily Thekkady has a magical atmosphere. I hope to return next year.

A place to experience elephant by seeing them doing timber lift, elephant ride, feeding feeding an elephant and shower with them. Plus, you get a chance to get photos clicked with elephant.
I believe they got three elephants and you will interact with one elephant while any of the activity.
They have package for above mentioned activities starting from 500 for an elephant ride to 2500
We did Timber only package for 750 which includes timber lift, feeding elephant, photo session, and a tea or coffee. Personally, I don't like elephant ride.
We had great experience here. Although, the ticket price might look little higher but one way the money go towards elephants day to day needs also.
Will I recommend it? : YES with minimum 1 hour in hand for this activity. Kids will fully enjoy here.

Elephants are the most amazing creatures and despite these being in captivity, they looked happy and content. The trek was cool, and being able to be close to these creatures is a special experience. The staff were friendly and the price for a ride (500 INR) was fair.

It is a wonderful experience. Never before we had this close to elephant. We took elephant ride, bathing, shower and feeding. All staffs are very nice and polite and they explained everything in detail and patiently. The elephants are also very lovely and we enjoyed a lot. Without this thekkady trip is incomplete. A must visit place.

One of the Elephant safari camp in thekkady which is privately maintained. But the costing for basic elephant ride seems high (Rs. 500 / person and goes upto Rs. 2500 for a package) and the time for the ride is very less. Max 10 mins.
Not sure about the other elephant camps in thekkady about their pricing.. But this one is not so worthy for the cost.

Worst boating stay. They don't turn the AC on till night even if it's hot and humid outside.
Horrible food which was served onboard. They didn't even offered salad along with food. No provision of cold drinking water. In name of welcome drinks, offered "Real Juice". It stinks at night as boat remains is stationed at one location. Washrooms weren't clean.

I visited Alleppey to enjoy this house boat last week. A wonderful experience I have got while on the boat. Foods were prepared in the boat and served by the boatmen.
Foods were hot and delicious. Speed boats are available there for thrilling surfing in the lake water.
On the way, some shops are having milk, chicken, fish, mutton and more available. Boatmen told me, if you want to eat anything available in the on going shop, purchase on your own cost and we are ready to cook. This is apart from their giving food menu.
Also icecreams are available in a small boat wandering around the lake.

The Aruvikuzhy Waterfalls is a charming hiking and picnic destination located in close proximity to Pala. The falls are approximately 30 ft tall and only active during monsoon season, making it an idyllic spot for visitors who enjoy the natural beauty of waterfalls. During summer, the river almost completely dries up. The attraction is situated 2 km from Pallickathode and 7.

Monsoon has many surprises in store for visitors and residents alike in Kerala. Many a stream and waterfall come to life with the sudden heavy rains hitting the state. Aruvikkuzhi falls is one such monsoon wonder. Located in the landlocked district of Kottayam, this waterfall attracts plenty of visitors during season. It is a delight to watch the crystal clear waters falling from a height of 30 feet. The surrounding plantations and trekking trails are favourite spots for nature and adventure lovers. Families are often seen camping in these areas. Aruvikkuzhi falls is a perfect one day picnic spot for families.

This waterfall is so soothing and it feels like "rainforest". Best part is the greenery and the clear water. It is clear, not clean, because the people who visits there make the place a mess by casually throwing plastics and other junks in the water and surroundings. It is actually common to people that every tourist destination in Kerala has this kind of " junkyards". People are so stupid to do this and they are treating this like a usual/common thing.

Good place to visit. Contains more steps. Entry fees is Rs 26.I Had a bad review regarding that place because couples are spending more time there. So they were engaged in different love making process. Especially college students. We went and just only spent little time there due to this. Water contains feaces matter, dirty, all house waste are dropping into it. So felt so bad.

This place is properly managed in terms of entry and exit. There is a single entry and exit. Plastic is completely prohibited here, which is a great thing. The way to the waterfalls is a bit difficult during rainy days since they have used (kind of) glossy tiles instead of hard gripped tiles. Also, it is highly recommended to deploy at least two life guards during heavy monsoons if they are permitting people to bathe in the falls. Some people got no sense and will climb the slippery slope, all the way to the top. Some people bring infants and sit with them right in the middle of the falls, which is not all recommended. During monsoon season, torrential downpours can happen anytime and can lead to disasters. So please come, keep calm and visit this beautiful place and leave.

Nestled in the serene hills of Vagamon, the Vagamon Pine Forest is a manmade forest with acres of steep slopes covered in magnificent pine trees. This pollution-free attraction offers tranquil nature walks and opportunities for photography under the towering conifers. It's also a popular spot for picnics, offering a peaceful ambiance with the soothing sound of wind.
Visit this spot in winter. Walking in pine forest in cold climate is amazing.

The pine forest with its mighty old trees was picture perfect. You should visit this place in early monsoon and late monsoon. The way the moss covers the tree trunks are something out of a fairy tale. The place has a mystic sense of beauty and adventure.
The parking is wheelchair accessible but that's it. The minute you step into the forest you gotta be able to trust your legs and lungs. The climb down is easy and fun, you could go all the way down to see the creek that flows gently right beneath. But the climb back up is bound to break those sweat glands and give your lungs a run for their money.
But don't let that keep you away from its beauty. As they say, the most beautiful places require the hardest climbs.

It's a good sight to see the pine trees in abundance. It's pretty hard to walk through the forest. It's slippery. Nothing much of an ambience. It's crowded nowadays. You can click some photos and come out that's it. My advice is not to carry camera as they charge 100 rs for camera alone whereas only 10 rs for entry. You can click pics on mobile it would be more than enough.
If you are first timer then you can spend some time sitting between the trees in some log.

Pine valley forest as it is known and called is located on the right side the road when you are nearing Vagamon when coming from Elapara. Just after the main gate of Kerala Veterinary and Livestock University is this place. There is a paid parking place or try to park along the left side of the road while coming from Elapara. There is enough parking space on the left side of the road in front of the University campus which is greenery. The entrance fee per adult is Rs. 10/-. You have to walk 200 mtrs from the entrance to reach the pine valley. There are a lot of way side shops where you can buy home made chocolates, sweets, tea dust or tea leaves etc. I suggest buy home made chocolates only after eating a piece as most of the these chocolates are not at all sweet. Mostly good for diabetes people as it is not sweet but can be eaten with the feeling it is chocolate. Inside the pine trees campus you have to walk down the hill fully covered with pine trees and so can stay out of the sun rays and heat. Better to visit during afternoon if you are on a one day tour as it gives relief from the hot sun which you experience visiting the Vagamon meadows and Thangalpara etc. If you are visiting Vagamon on a one day tour or plan to leave Vagamon via Elapara towards the end of the day I advice to visit Pine Valley towards the end of the sightseeing as from pine valley you can leave directly to Elapara. There is a Kudumbasree Hotel at the entrance of pine valley where you can get homely food at moderate prices. Happy sightseeing

The area boasts expansive tea gardens, stunning meadows, and deep ravines that contribute to its natural beauty. Visitors can admire the endless green hills, breathtaking valleys, and winding rivulets that make Vagamon a haven for nature enthusiasts.

Additionally, guests can listen to gushing waterfalls or watch traditional boat races.
Nice place to get close with the nature. As my trip was during off season, didn't see much birds. However got a surprising boat ride for an hour over the backwaters. We went in the middle of the day, after being warned there wouldn't be any birds. However it was still a nice shaded walk out of the heat of the day. Took about 2 hrs to slowly walk out and less slowly back. Saw some birds too! There's one functional tower you can climb right at the end, after passing a closed one. From there you can see storks. Also saw kingfishers and other smaller birds, and lots of butterflies.

Be prepared to walk around 3 kms and you might not even spot a crow or a pigeon 😄. The time of year when you visit is also key to spot the birds. At the end of the long walk, there is a watch tower which is rusty and if climbed carefully, you can spot some cranes and migratory birds perched on tree tops by the backwaters.
Around 3/4 th to the way, there is a spot where you can take a break and it have a good view of the Kumarakom backwaters.
It's a good walk for nature lovers.

It’s a calm and quite place, would be an interesting visit if you would like to enjoy nature, be silent. We may not see birds during the day time but we sure hear them, sometimes often larges branches and leaves wiggle indicating a presence. The paths are well paved, some even with bricks and stones. There are many interesting seatings that happens to be branches and roots of different types of trees, which I really like. One side of the sanctuary is embedded with small streams that links to the lake finally. But the house boat engines that go through the lake seems really annoying to me personally. It is a heaven for all the asmr video enthusiasts. Some lucky people would be able to see turtles taking a sunbath on top of a old floating wood trunk putting their neck out, amidst a very few and minimal Sunrays that reach beyond the thick canopy and get a click, as they would suddenly jump back to the water. I guess they have some kind of motion sensing sensors. But there are a lot of contamination even though they have mentioned many regulations. Cleaning could be better. We can definitely see a lot of romantic youth here and there as they offer picturesque views ,so definitely a great place for a date. At the tip there is a small seating, facing the lake and have the sunset and hear the waves. When I went the watch tower was in extremely dilapidated condition as the stairs were almost rusted and extinct. The walk is almost 45 min one way so to and for it would be 1.5 hours. The park closes around 4:00pm. A boating after this would be great it costs around 800 for an hour in a sikhara boat

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary in Alappuzha offers a serene and natural escape for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. The entrance fee of 100 per head is quite reasonable for the experience it offers. The presence of a parking fee suggests that the facility is well-maintained and organized.
The sanctuary is expansive, providing ample space for visitors to explore. The sounds of birds chirping add to the ambiance, although the actual bird sightings can vary. It's not uncommon to see a limited number of bird species on certain visits, as bird activity can depend on the time of day and season
One highlight of the sanctuary is the presence of various small animals, which can make the visit even more exciting. The atmosphere, especially during hot weather, offers a refreshing and cool escape due to the lush greenery and water bodies.
It's worth noting that the ban on plastics is a positive step for preserving the environment.
Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary also offers birdwatching towers, enhancing the experience for enthusiasts. The walking paths and trails allow visitors to immerse themselves in nature, making it a must-visit destination for those who enjoy outdoor activities and appreciate the beauty of Kerala's wildlife and natural surroundings.

My experience at Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary leaned more towards a nature walk than a bird sanctuary visit. Despite extensive walking, bird sightings were minimal as they remained mostly obscured by the trees. The audible birdsong, while present, was overshadowed by a more vibrant experience at my resort. Disappointingly, the entry fee was ₹100 per person, along with a ₹30 charge for car parking, making it seem overpriced for the limited offerings. The watchtower was under maintenance, and the overall upkeep of the sanctuary left much to be desired. If you're seeking a simple morning or nature walk, it might suffice; otherwise, considering the cost and maintenance issues, I would recommend exploring alternative locations.

The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary was established in 1956 by the government of Travancore, and later developed by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. The sanctuary is a haven for bird lovers, as it hosts hundreds of species of birds, including the rare Siberian crane, the darter, the heron, the egret, the waterfowl, the cuckoo, the owl, the teal, and the flycatcher. The best time to visit the sanctuary is during the winter months, from November to March, when the migratory birds flock to the area. The sanctuary also offers boat rides, nature walks, and cottages for accommodation.
My Google Map Review:
Recently visited Kumarakom Backwater Lakes and its Bird Sanctuary last month and I was amazed by the beauty and tranquility of the place. The backwater cruise was a relaxing and enjoyable experience, as I got to see the lush greenery, the coconut groves, the paddy fields, and the local life along the lake. The bird sanctuary was a treat for the eyes and ears, as I saw and heard many different kinds of birds, some of which I had never seen before. The staff at the sanctuary were friendly and helpful, and the cottages were clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves nature and wildlife. It was a memorable and refreshing trip for me.

Its a tourist attracted spot in kumarakkm, kottayam and is a good place to enjoy peace and nature.
But nowadays birds are less and if we want to see some we need to walk for 30 minutes and more in to the forest.
Visiting charge is also so high that they charge 100 rupees for indian citizens and more for foreigners.

Kumarakom has very few places for site seeing, the bird sanctuary being one of them. The hotel staff suggested we go at around 7 am if we want to catch bird sitings. The sanctuary is approximately a 4 km walk to and from each. The walkway passes through the dense sanctuary and is a pleasant hike. Some of us made the mistake of not wearing full clothes and/or rain shoes. There are plenty of mosquitoes and if you plan on doing photography along the way, they are sure to come bite while you take your time to set the frames and click.
Unfortunately we couldn't site any birds, only heard their voices. The last lag of the hike is a slightly difficult one. Till the last lag you will find a pathway of stepping stones and bridges where you may walk upon. In the last leg, however, there is none. You will be walking through swamps, mud and slippy roots. The last lag is also only for those who wish to go to the watch tower and finally see the birds from an aerial view. Thankfully we saw lots of birds on tree tops from the watch tower.

The place is actually good for walking, lake side view, and for some sort of adventure. Only thing that you can't see is birds. If you are lucky you can see some monitor lizards and turtle.
The entry fee per person is 100 and 25 for car parking.
Boat ride is available there.

Full of greenery and a cool place even midday...had a 2 hrs lazy trek in a stretch of 4kms. Good place to take kids and family for a nature walk. Suitable for aged people too. Difficulty level - Easy! Recommended in the morning and evening time.
