Separately, I recommend the guide Vyacheslav Antonov, a very enthusiastic guy who knows the history of the German community well, easily answers any questions.
Stunning church
Excursions for every taste, both sightseeing and interactive
Delicious mustard oil and the only mustard museum in the country.
Recommended for visiting everyone, from 7 to 100 years old

(Translated by Google) What remains of the settlement of German colonists invited by Catherine II. Several houses are sandwiched between residential buildings. In the center is a square with an obelisk, a monument to the Heroes who died a brave death during the defense of Stalingrad. Renovations are underway. Those buildings that have already been renovated are too bright and smooth. But there are a few houses left that have not yet been touched by the harsh hand of restoration. Hurry up to see them. There are excursions, but for some reason I didn’t really want to visit them. Perhaps they are interesting. In the souvenir shops of the city we later saw a lot of products from this place.

(Translated by Google) As for accommodation, yes, the prices are small, but still money is money, first of all, the most important thing is that there are no air conditioners !! The second is that pillows and mattresses are not looked after at all, it stinks of urine, I had to sleep without a pillow. Third - a shower without a normal cubicle, the toilet is very small and low for tall people, it is very inconvenient. And the fourth (small nuance) - to turn the light on or off, you must definitely go to the entrance to the room, because all the switches are right at the door, so you can’t turn off the light from the bed, there is no home Internet either. In general, I do not recommend

It’s obvious that he loves his job and is happy to talk about his region. We are very glad that we took a tour rather than a self-guided inspection. Lydia answered all questions and the most important thing is that I wanted to listen to her, because... The story is very educational. We would even come again, it was so interesting to learn about the customs and life of the German commune in our glorious city. And in general, it is very interesting and unusual to walk in the past, surrounded on all sides by modern high-rise buildings. There is restoration going on there and I really want all the buildings to be restored.

The Otel' Gorod Shakhmat is a captivating establishment that boasts a charming mini park and small mansions. The accommodation offers convenient free parking, as well as attentive morning wipers and efficient garbage disposal services. Particularly enchanting during the spring and summer seasons, the surroundings are enhanced by slippery stairs and an open entrance that can be frosty and cold. A beautiful place to visit. The river, the amazing waterfalls, the whole environment is beautiful and amazing. It's also a great place to pick up some beautifully made local items: scarves, sweaters, gloves, and much more, which helps the local economy. The Kafe U Kurmana is an excellent and fascinating place to eat, built up against the rock wall. We got a couple of skewers of meat and some flatbread things; I forget what they were called. I heard some local people say the food was ordinary and a bit high priced, but we enjoyed it. If you are an American as I am, the US State Department has a "level 4 travel advisory-Do Not Travel" for this area, but I had no problems of any kind, and found the people there friendly and welcoming. My Russian friend and I took a tour bus from Zheleznovodsk to the area. We also visited Nalchik and a hot mineral water pool in the area. It is only at first glance that it seems that the monastery is located on the road, but this is not the case. To climb to the monastery you need to overcome many steep steps up ☝️. And this is a test 😉
The monastery was on our list of attractions on this route.

(Translated by Google) On a hill, built from natural stone that was carried by hand from the banks of the Fiagdon River, the Fiagdon Monastery looks more like a monumental Byzantine castle than a quiet monastery of monks. Resting in enfilades against the rock, carried away by old watchtowers into the clouds, securely clinging to the domes of the monastery, the monastery is monumental, strict and seemingly impregnable, like a good fortress. Impressive stone walls, heavy forged bars, the huge space of the monastery, its location - everything looks absolutely right. The mountainous setting of the monastery from the huge terrace also seems particularly true; on the opposite slope a huge cross is built into the rock.
Inside the temple is in the woods, because the painting of the walls and ceiling is not yet finished; but rich paintings and carved marble iconostases are already visible. A certain splendor of the place is due to the modernity of the building - space and light

(Translated by Google) An interesting place for believers. It’s a bit difficult to climb the steps, but apparently this is intentional. They say that there is an easier, but slightly longer, path around the monastery. We couldn’t get inside: we pulled the door handle, but it was closed (or it was so hard to open). During our visit there were many guests celebrating some kind of holiday.

Gornyy Kurort Tsey is a magnificent mountain recreation area characterized by snow-capped summits, cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking glaciers. It is renowned for its superb skiing and climbing opportunities. The sheer beauty of this place cannot be adequately described; it must be witnessed firsthand to truly appreciate it. Although the resort lacks extensive skiing facilities, the natural wonders that surround it offer an incredible experience for nature enthusiasts.

View waterfall and view, also a very easy “hike”. Perfect to combine it with some other activities (including the small waterfall you’ll not spend more than 2/3 hours here). Trails a bit harder at the big waterfall, but still very easy and also for beginners. Parking spot costs 3 GEL.

An absolute must-visit. It takes approximately 40 minutes to walk there at a slow walking speed. The views are fascinating. Only stones and mountains. We only met two people on our way there, and the absence of people makes this place even more beautiful.

2x waterfalls reachable within 1.5 hours round trip from the main road. Drive up to within 20min from either one if you have a 4x4. Very nice hike, nice waterfalls, not crowded (mid-October)

Great waterfall view, water was so cold , and there was 2 waterfalls big one and small one.
Sammy — Google review
The road to the waterfall is terrible. We had 4x4 and we still struggled due to large holes in the ground. Additionally, when you get to the starting point you need to hike (and the path isn’t the best) - we were not aware of this and would probably skip it as we were in a hurry. The waterfall looks cool though. If you go prepare to spend 2-3h including the hike from the bottom (if you don’t have a car), otherwise 1h.
Eva Meglič — Google review
There is a 3 km hike from the car park by the road to the waterfall. It is treacherous in winter so wear good shoes. The path Is steep, rocky and icy in winter. The small lake at the base of the waterfall is frozen in winter and so you can stand right under the frozen waterfall.

Gveleti Big Waterfall is an incredible natural wonder located in the heart of Georgia. The waterfall is situated in the beautiful Gveleti valley and surrounded by lush green forests and towering mountains, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The waterfall itself is stunning, with water cascading down a series of rock formations, creating a breathtaking sight and a soothing sound.

Gveleti Big Waterfall is a beautiful and popular destination that is worth visiting. If you are looking for a challenging hike, you can also visit the smaller Gveleti Waterfall, which is located just a short distance away.
Here are some additional tips for visiting Gveleti Big Waterfall:
Wear comfortable shoes with good traction.
Bring water and snacks.
Be prepared for rain or snow.

Absolutely stunning trail and waterfall. There were even dogs that hiked all the way up with us. The views from the valley are amazing as you can see high peaks and valleys. The waterfall itself is high. Feels like being inside "the hobbit" movie.

an absolute must see when in this area.
we visited in winter so it was completely frozen (and for me maybe even more beautiful !) .
road to the starting point only by 4x4. We had taxi driver from Stepantsminda , brought us to starting point , then it was about 20minutes easy hike (though in winter it is slippery , so be extra cautious ) .
Monika Sabolová — Google review
If you not jeep or 4*4 owner, be ready to additional hour walking to track start point (and the same time to return).
The route is wild, has no signs, no safety measures.
The waterfall is cascading and impossible to see it completely. When you get to the top you will see some part, but you will hear it all the time while you hike.
There are many flowers around, but it is inconvenient to take pictures, you are constantly in an unstable position.
The route can be considered sports, few interesting things around. Not suitable for preschool children.

One can hike to Altihut (about 3150m) or even up to the glacier (3300m or so) as a regular hiking. Above that the things become more complicated. Unless you have mountains experience, you'll need special equipment and a guide to make it to the summit. But the views worth that! Nothing comparable to the view from the highest top in Georgia!

Super impressive mountain towering over Stepansminda (Kazbegi). Easy to be seen from all around town - and a great backdrop to any picture you take here :-) Best shots in the early morning - with or without the Gergeti Chuch.

No matter how loud the forest might sing, with its chirping birds and roaring rivers, it will rather enhance the gentle whispers of my soul - while the noise of a single person could silence them completely. I don't seek solitude for the sake of being alone, but for diving into the deeper layers of myself - where those guiding voices reside.

One of the major mountains of the Caucasus located on the border of Georgia's Kazbegi District. Drive to the mountains takes around two to three hours, and most cars dont go all the way near the mountains, as the ice gets very slippery. So probably yu'd have to take a 1m walk. But trust me, its worth it! There's an old Church on the top, with stunning views n lots of snow!

It was one of my favorite places to go and finally I reached the summit on August 12, 2019 with a group of mountaineers from Iran.
It's really amazing. be careful about the Gergeti glacier, it needs technical skills and equipment.
Thank you to Mr. Hassan Javaherpour, Mr. Amihossein Soleimanjah and Ms. Sanam Tizmaghz.
Gergeti Trinity Church, a 14th-century cross-cupola church located in the mountains above Kazbegi in Georgia, is an iconic symbol of the country for its scenic hilltop location with Mt Kazbek towering behind it. The challenging task of constructing the church on such a lofty and remote spot highlights the immense effort involved.
Absolutely breathtaking views, the mountain is amazingly beautiful. So much to see and discover all around. The church stands on top of the mountain and is such a lovely sight. Definitely worth the visit despite being a long trip.

Beautiful Monastery on top of the mountain. We took a taxi from Rooms Hotel in Kazbegi from where we could see this place. Felt surreal to be up there and look at the beautiful valleys around it. The church was very nice and serene as well. A must do trip in your visit to Kazbegi.!

DON'T MISS THIS PLACE. You will see the great Kazbegi Mountain ~5050m in a stunning, majestic view along with Mount Shani from the other side. The feeling is memorable, wait until there is no fog around Kazbegi Mountain to get the best photos. ACCESSIBLE WITH ANY KIND OF CAR, JUST CAREFUL THE ROAD.

One of the shortest hiking in Georgia but the view is just unique. The church itself is historic. You are provided some clothes to be appropriate to enter. You can also take the care road but hiking is highly recommended. It is also good place for camping. The wind can sometimes be strong, so check the forecast until you come camping here.

This church looks so cool when you are hiking towards the Gergeti glacier! I can’t comment on how it’s inside as I haven’t been but from the outside it’s super cool! The road to the church is very easy to drive on. Me and my friend rented a car and drove to it (no need for 4x4). Alternatively you can also hike up from the village. There’s lots of free parking available nearby.

Unsurprisingly, this location is one of the most picturesque in Georgia. You have a couple of options for getting there. One way is by renting a Delica from local drivers, available in the town center in front of the Spar shop. Alternatively, you could choose a light trek: the easiest path starts at the cemetery and stretches about 1.5 km. It's mainly stairs, and it leads you right to the main road at the parking lot in front of the Church. There's also another path accessible from the small tower beneath the hill, although I wouldn't recommend it if the weather is rainy.
You can capture the best shots of the church from the parking lot, though the cars parked outside can sometimes obstruct the view. As for Mkinvartsveri (Mount Kazbegi), it is often covered in clouds. You would need to be quite lucky to get a clear view, with early morning or late evening presenting the best opportunities for a sunrise or sunset experience.
Next to the parking lot, you'll find a free toilet. The church shop is generally open, but there are times when it's closed.
Please note that drone usage is not permitted in the church area.
No photos available inside the church.
Sunday service usually lasts till 1pm maximum.

Beautiful location and definitely a must visit if you're in the area.
Do ignore the signs at the bottom claiming the road can only be accessed by off-road vehicles. I can only speculate some taxi drivers put it up to sell their rides. The road is in a lot better condition than a lot of other roads. You can park for free very close to it. Of course you can also hike there.

During autumn, spring and summer I would like to recommend to hike up through the forest and go down by other trail next to Gergeti Tower. The church is nice and has a breathtaking view to the mountains. It could be a bit windy up there so think about to have a proper clothes. Also this place could be crowded. But if you are staying in Kazbegi for more than one day then I would like definitely to visit this place.

Finally visited Gergeti Trinity Church last early March! It snowed a day earlier so we were not sure if we could drive there. We were lucky because the road was open (though we waited for around 30 mins as it was initially closed).
The place was amazing!!! It was white around the area and the Church standing on top a hill was such a nice view. If you wish to light a candle inside, there was a shop down the Church to buy candles but there was also inside for donation.
When we were driving up, I saw a walking trail so would love to come back there again during spring or summer for some hiking!

One of the best places to visit in Georgia. fantastic view of the church with a mind blowing mountains and Kazbegi city views. In the winter only 4x4 cars can reach there also I don’t recommend to drive to there if you don’t have enough driving experience on the snow and iced roads you can find a lot of local drivers with their 4x4 cars you can rent a tour by 50-70 GEL. Try visiting before the sunset so that you can get great photos of the church with clear mountains and city views. 👌🏼👌🏼

Stepantsminda is just a beautiful place with so much to offer especially if you’re a mountain lover.
We went there on the first week of May and the weather happened to be perfect. We hiked up to Gergeti Trinity Church and the views are extraordinary. There weren’t many people there and if you’re up for it, you can keep hiking from there till the a glacier. The hiking trail to the church may not be the easiest especially if you aren’t much of hiker or haven’t been on too many hikes, but definitely doable and enjoyable for everyone.

We visited the place twice on the same day.. In the morning it was raining and covered with fog. In the evening it was so amazing climate and the wind was getting stronger. We have taken local taxi 4x4 to reach there. First time we chose the offroad path and the trip was memorable. The driver was well experienced and he was taking some adventurous turns. Second time we directly went to the church. Obviously it would have been a disappointing mistake if we would have cancelled the second visit..

Beautiful and historical Georgian church. The views from the church are breathtaking. When I visited I was fortunate enough to be able to see the snow covered top of Mount Kazbek as the I was told that's not always possible. I visited in early September and it was already much cooler in the mountains compared to Tblisi, so dress accordingly.

We trekked to the church rather than the drive that most people do. Would totally recommend the trek. It takes you through some really beautiful meadows. However, if you want to go to the glacier, drive would be better to save time. At the church itself there is not much to do or see. It's all about the location. You get some fantastic causcus mountain views from here

So happy to be visiting. Beautiful views. Although the day we got here it was cloudy and windy, the area was covered in snow and ice. You can get candles inside by donation. Shame that the Delica service (70 Lari per car) hotel organised for us only incorrectly gave us 30 mins to see this time even though Rooms Kazbegi hotel told us 45mins. Getting through the icy footpath already took 10 mins! The next day we tried to hike up but the snow was too much to make it safe for us to get further. It was doable by other people I know we were just being too careful.

Located near the city of Stepantsminda, Gergeti Trinity Church is a must visit church if you are in Georgia. There are some monks who serve and live there.
You can hike to the church or go up by a car, but it is recommended to go by a 4x4 if the road is wet as it is very steep.
When we visited, it was too foggy so we didn’t manage to see the views surrounding the church.

Vartsla Mountain, apart hotel New Gudauri, apt 109, Gudauri 4702, Georgia
The Gudauri Ski Resort is a mountainous winter destination that offers over 70km of ski slopes, multiple lifts, and off-piste skiing. It's an ideal place for first-time visitors due to its astonishing views and helpful staff. However, visitors should be aware that the chair lifts stop working at 5 pm sharp, although there are night skiing options available on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 pm till 10 pm.
One week stay at this resort. So amazing and memorable experience. It’s so cheap, you won’t be able to compare it with any other European ski resorts. Similar experience for cheaper price. Highly recommended.
Thasreef Balarath — Google review
Gudauri is a pretty lovely place. It's quite a drive from Tbilisi, but you'll have a similar drive in any European resort.
There's a pretty decent amount of skiing on offer, so there's plenty to keep beginner to intermediate skiers occupied. Advanced skiers can do plenty of off-piste skiing, but it may not be super challenging. There's only a few red and black runs, so you might not get your thrill on in Gudauri.
I saw a lot of parachute experiences, which I must say looked cool (I didn't try it though).
The runs aren't bad, but marking of the runs, signage and maps felt like they were in short supply. Lifts were fine, there's a gondola, there's a ski park, there's stuff for kids. Not bad.
Restaurants were a bit hit and miss on the slopes, but generally not bad. There's a better selection in New Gudauri where the gondola start.
The "free skiing" area over the back of the mountain where the gondolas go is quite lovely and long.
We stayed in the Marco Polo and it was a pretty decent stay. Given pricing and what's on offer, I think we'll definitely be back in Gudauri in future and hope it will be constantly improving over time.

26.12.-06.01. - no snow. It’s forbidden to take ski or snowboard to lift them up in the cabin. But you can pay guys on snow scooters privately 50 Lari, they will lift you up with ski kit. Funny.

The ski paths could be better signalized, as is a place known to beginners. The park closes at 5 and from a day to the other closes at 4, so to enjoy you should go early. The rest was good. There is places to eat and drink. Cable carts have good maintenance.
Kimberly Flores — Google review
Brilliant place for even the first time visitors. Astonishing views and full of people ready to help you if need be. Just make sure that you are done skiing or snowboarding until 5 pm, as the chair lifts stop working at that exact time. There are also days of night skiing from 8pm till 10pm usually on Fridays and Saturdays.
Davit Tsitsishvili — Google review
Very nice ski resort, with plenty of slopes, lifts, restaurants, snowmobiles and ski rentals. However - 1. Very poorly marked - can't tell which level of slope you are entering into. 2. Even green slopes have red level segments. 3. Bottom mountain lifts have no backup power generator. 4. No clear marking of various location points, thus making it almost impossible to find a meeting point for newcomers. Even locals can't explain clearly. 5. There are taxi and ski training cartels, controlling prices and artificially upscaling them. In the past they even forcefully forbid foreigners to work, thus securing jobs for locals.

Gudauri ski resort is amazing! It's awesome because they have different ski slopes for all skill levels. Whether you're just starting or you're a pro, there's a slope for you.
But what makes Gudauri extra special is the restaurants on the first terrace. They're not only great for taking a break while skiing, but they also serve really tasty food, and you get to enjoy it with the most incredible views of the beautiful mountains. Skiing and delicious dining with a view – it's a perfect combo that made my trip to Gudauri unforgettable. If you love skiing and stunning scenery, you've got to check out Gudauri

Limited pistes. Don’t know how they calculate total kilometers, but in reality there is 2 very short black pistes, would say max 1-2km, 2 red pistes, also few kilometers and whats left, everything is blue/green. Actually 2 days of skiing is more than enaught here. If there is no fresh snow, then not much to do at all. Slopes preparation is also not the best - stones or snow/soil mix on the lower parts is quite common, nobody cares, no signs, nothing. All slopes aren’t marked at all, we saw 2-3 signs for whole place. Good thing that there is small or no queues at the lifts, but nothing more :( Everywhere stand cars and rude taxi drivers which think that all the area belongs to them :( back to 90ies! When we tried to take our stuff to the car, these taxi drivers started shout on us, one of them even hit twice our car windows, he tried to damage our car on purpose! Never saw nothing similar. Roads are in very poor condition, everywhere huge holes, drivers drive without turn signals. Very low culture all around. In restaurants prices 2-3 times higher than in Tbilisi, quality of food mostly from middle to poor, they add 10-18% service fee everywhere even if service is very poor. Wouldn’t recommend this place at all!

Great snow, good prices. The only downside: they don't clean the slopes everyday like other sites which increase the chances to catch an edge when skiing. Pay attention.

Most of the courses are blue, They are long which is great. It a good ski resort for biggeners and intermiddiate. One of the thing that quite annoying is that they open quite late. They say it will open at 10 but actually they only start the arrangements at that time so you actually start at 11 - 11:30.
The Georgian food is very tasty. And there are good restaurants.
Also recommended the Spa in Gudauri lodge.

Very nice resort, has all the things needed for a ski resort although the pistes were pretty moderate even the red and black ones and they site are not that big. Great for beginners or for those who wants to go for a ski resort one a budget.

Visited in November. There was not much thing to see, skiing-wise. Resort looks huge, so many hotels. Surface mostly soil, not big rocks, which is good for skiing. I would like to see in winter

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Gudauri Ski Resort, and it surpassed all my expectations! From their sublime environment to the stellar service they provide, I can confidently say that Gudauri offers an edge above many other skiing locations.
The skiing experience was indeed, remarkable. Whether you're a beginner like me or a seasoned pro, Gudauri facilitates everyone. The professional and wonderfully patient instructors guided me through all the initial challenges, and before I knew it, I was skiing like I had never done before.
The Quard bike ride added another exciting layer to our adventure! Riding through the breathtaking landscapes was an uncontainably thrilling experience. It was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip.
Another distinctive attribute of Gudauri that stood out was its close proximity to dining options. Several fantastic restaurants, offering a wide range of delectable cuisines, line near the resort. The convenience of having quality dining spots so close was a big win for us.
Gudauri Ski Resort is a complete package to have a perfect winter holiday. I wholeheartedly recommend this resort for an unforgettable vacation. Promising a seamless blend of fun, relaxation, and adventure, I'm confident it will exceed your expectations—just like it did mine!

I give points only for the incredibly beautiful nature. Unfortunately, this is where the positives end. The resort has absolutely no pedestrian infrastructure: there are no pedestrian paths, people have to walk on slippery roadways, imagine how “convenient” it is in ski boots. Cars are parked everywhere, as if you had gone for a walk to a huge parking lot in the mountains, and not to a resort. Huge icicles hang from the roofs right above the paths where people walk. As a tourist, you constantly feel uncomfortable and unsafe; there is no desire to go out and take a walk after skiing.

I had an hour nice skiing with a guide. It was a bit expensive with a guide, priced at 200GEL. But I loved the experience. There are other activities such as snowboarding, snowmobiling etc. Great to see families having fun together with the joyous sounds and screams of kids

The place is covered with snow, the most wonderful experience. Ski and snow games are the most attractive in this resort. For a day skiing costs 50 lari. Restaurants were not cheap and they were rude too. If you want to enjoy it I suggest you guys stay there for a day.

The station is of family size, welcome all types of guest from pro’s to families.
The accommodations are all made in a way that doesn’t disfigured the mountains and landscapes, they come at every price and sizes.
The slopes are brilliants and long, the prices are still great compared to most European stations, and we adored seeing people just using the lifts to go have a view with drinks or snacks up in the mountain, then come back with the lifts again.
The quality of services, presence of police, windshield on some lifts, the large offer in terms of prices and choices of restaurants and coffees, it was all just brilliant !
We had a wonderful, wonderful time here, the quality of the snow is undeniably one of the best.
The launch party was a sweet and memorable touch.
The locals made us feel so welcome and were so kind towards us.

Pros:
Beautiful mountains and views.
The lifts are new and there are not a lot of people.
Minuses:
The organization that manages the slopes is just a bunch of incompetent people.
1. All slopes closed due to low wind. Despite the fact that the lifts were not functioning no one wanted to give money back. The principle is simple all over the world. If you are not able to provide the service you were paid for, you return the money to the customer.
2. No maps on the slopes and no toilets.
3. The Sedzele ski lift is completely out of service - it is closed permanently, yet it is included on the slopes map available on the website. This is misleading people.
4. Throughout Gudauri, the locals act as if they are surprised by winter. The roads are impassable, no one cares about the condition of the sidewalks. People fall over because no one is spreading salt or sand.
5 The general impression is this. They want to take money like in the Alps, and guarantee service like in the Soviet Union.

We spent a week in January 2024. That was a blast! So much fun, amazing weather, a great ski resort, delicious food, and friendly staff. 100% recommend! Will be back next year.
This significant castle complex, boasting two churches and picturesque river views, has witnessed numerous battles throughout its history. To visit Ananuri and the Russia-Georgia Monument en route to the fortress, opting for a taxi at triple the cost of a marshrutka is recommended. Travel time spans approximately 3.5 hours over 153km.
Well maintained and beautiful place. A massive fortress with a panoramic view of mountains and river on the background. A big parking space with refreshment stores and washrooms also available. A must visit place while travelling to Gudauri.

Very nice fortress with stunning view towards the lake. A picturesque landscape that offer a sense of tranquility from afar, but note that it will get busy once you're in the complex. Met a few beggars right at the entrance, which I'm told is a normal occurrence.

Moderate size castle and beautiful church with amazing frescos.. The view is just spectacular.. you can buy the candle from inside and light if you want. Their is a watch tower behind the church with very narrow & steep steps.. The view from top of the water tower is beautiful, but not very safe to climb with small kids. Decent clothing is must. You can use scarf.

Nice place to take pictures and learn more about the Georgian history and architecture. My daughter enjoyed the horse ride for 15 minutes which will cost you 40GEL. There were teenagers as well offering pictures with parrots which will cost you 20GEL per person..I had to indulge my daughter but I personally felt it was a bit too much as they will only allow picture of 1 person with parrot.

This fortress is a great place to go for parents with their kids (or without, I went alone being a 29-year-old man)! This place will give one an idea of what it felt like being a soldier serving in a fortress in the medieval times Georgia. The fortress itself looks just awesome and authentic. There's a small cathedral in the middle of the fortification complex and the entire venue will easily keep anyone busy exploring its wall and towers for at least an hour.
There's an adjacent small market selling souvenirs and a parking lot (charge is 3 lari for cars, but will be free if you're coming in the evening hours).
I just love anything green, such simple green water hydro power spot

Beautiful blue water, three beautiful lookout points, you will not only get some breathtaking unreal photos, but also the wind, fresh air and just endless views of water, mountains, trees! It would be an amazing place to do a little family shoot too, if you stop at the last lookout, just drive a little slow to make sure you have time to stop on the side of the road, there is a road going down to the reservoir, which you can ignore if you want to just go to lookout points, drive past the reservoir entrance and immediately thereafter are two lookout points :) one with even fresh juice ;)

The Stalin Museum displays an assortment of photographs, artwork and mementos from the life of the infamous Communist Party leader. However, it does not strive to provide a fair and unbiased account of Stalin's career or actions. Instead, it remains a tribute to the Gori native who played a significant role in world history during the 20th century.
An interesting place to visit if you are into the Soviet era history. Lots of photos, letters and other artefacts. And not to forget Stalin’s train coach.
Our guided tour (in Russian) was very informative and educational, many thanks to the very professional guide.
Allow up to one hour for your visit.
Tours in English language are available too.

Created in Soviet era, this museum is a nice example of Stalin's empire style and Soviet Culture of that time, as well as propaganda. However, we were lucky to get to a tour with local museum guide and I have to admit that the excursion was very informative and interesting. They totally understand that most part of the exhibit was created by the culture of propaganda. They also tried to expand the exhibit with new information related to repressions. But currently the process of renovation of the exhibition is frozen, unfortunately. My personal opinion is that together with the exhibition of Soviet occupation, which is located in the National Museum in Tbilisi, this museum will help you to create relatively fair picture of what were happening during the Soviet's era.

Outside of main bldg is his train car and house where he was born/lived at young age. Inside the main bldg, a museum expo is upstairs. 3-4 large rooms with a lot of photos of him and people around him. Unfortunately, very little in English. You better read Georgian or Russian. He was a handsome young guy. What happened?

Stalin doesn't mean much to me as an Arab, but I found his story and the museum quite interesting. It's important to get a guide though. Also because most descriptions are in Georgian

“Stepping into the Stalin Museum in Georgia was like journeying through a time capsule into the complex legacy of one of the most controversial figures in modern history. Not a fan of Stalin but history cannot deny the relevance of the man. Interesting to get a bit of insight and learn a bit more about him. The museum is quite large and includes the house he grew up in, the actual museum with many artifacts and his personal train. Unfortunately the day we were there, there were no English guides and many of the explanations were in either Georgian or Russian so we had to use Google Translate but was worth visiting.

Really tough to give this museum 5 stars because it is the worst museum I've ever been to, but that's why I'm still recommending going there. The museum itself should be in a museum. Let me explain:
The building is like a time machine that takes you back to the Soviet Union.
After paying 15 GEL per person, you get to see how the Soviet Union brainwashed people, even glorifying a monster like Stalin. There's a wild mix of photos, paintings and some statues. If you get lucky enough to see an English translation, you'll still have a hard time to understand it because the translation is bad and there's little to no context. So make sure to listen to a podcast about Stalin or read an article about him before you go.
The museum leaves out lots of the important parts of Stalins past. Like him being a gangster who was the mastermind behind a robbery in Tbilisi that left 40 people dead.
I wanted to learn about him killing millions of people in gulags and executions but had to ask because instead I only saw paintings showing him as a hero and all people loving him. The employee pointed me to a very small room downstairs, which barely talked about anything bad he did.
Make sure to also visit Stalins armored train outside. An employee unlocked it and we walked through. He was afraid to fly so he even took the train to the Potsdam conference.
One of the most bizarre and factually incorrect museums I've been to. But it's so bizarre and false, it makes it worth a trip.
Dror H — Google review
The museum is nice for those who can’t google to find the information or search for some images of that times. There is too much unnecessary stuff in the museum. A lot of repetition and boredom. 15 lari per person is a huge overprice. The WC’s are just as horrible, like buy a normal toilets already. Also the museum smelled like a cheap homemade soup and the staff was randomly gossiping or watching some Facebook videos in various areas. This creates zero atmosphere.

If you are looking for an unbiased perspective on Stalin, you won’t find it here. The narrative is primarily pro Stalin and lacks depth. If you are familiar with the history of Stalin, you won’t learn anything new - the guided tour is one hour long all key events in Stalin’s life are covered superficially.
The museum contains various depictions of the key events, copies and originals of the official documents and press, and Stalin’s personal items.

I enjoyed this location the most compared to other places. It’s a little abandoned and not very renovated to be even more interesting but I really loved to see the city from the top. Maybe depends on the weather but really liked how nice the city looks during the autumn. Yes, it’s a little old and depressing but reminds many Georgians of old good days when you spent summer in the village. That’s why it might not be for everyone.

Gori Fortress you can’t really miss it as the location is in the center of town on top of a hill. After stopping for a quick bite, we were off to find the entrance. Walking around the bottom of the hill we finally found a pathway that looked like it would take us to the entrance.
There is no entrance fee to visit Gori Fortress. You walk up a staircase that leads you up to the gate where you enter. I’ll be honest there is not that much to see. The only visible signs of the fort are the walls, which are impressive. No buildings are within the walls of the Fortress, making it difficult to imagine what it may have looked like in its glory. The views from atop of the hill are truly incredible. You can see out over the city and far into the surrounding countryside.

But if you really want to explore the caves, you have to go all the way up, they have signs to guide you to the the exit on the opposite side of the fortress. It's great to explore every corner of it, helps you to build your appreciation with ancient history of Georgians who live in caves.

History geeks, assemble! This place is for you.
The site is exciting to look at, I was lucky to get a wonderful guide who passionately explained the life of the ancient civilization found on the site.
We could see the queen chamber, the commoner chamber, the ancient wine making system, and the underground jail (it will activate your claustrophobia when you look at it, but my my it is wonderful to look at).
Oh, did I forget to mention that the view from the top of the site is *chef's kiss* top notch!! There's a church on the bottom of the site as well.

The view is nice but the town itself is nothing surprising. There are no explaining signs anywhere. Might be more interesting with a guide. The wine tasting in the end was decent, the wines are great and the ladies explain the Georgian wine process well.

Uplistsikhe is an ancient rock cave town, one of the oldest settlements in the Caucasus. It is an enormous cave city near Mtkvari River in its north side. It has a beautiful view with stone caves. I loved it that how this structure is maintained so well. There is a cathedral too on the top. I would recommend everyone to wear comfy clothes like jeans or track pants & sports shoes while visiting this place as it would be helpful to climb & walk through this landscape.

It's like a Grand Canyon, you have to walk up by stairs and sometimes climbing the rocks so be ready for it. Up there was very windy and the wind carried dust into your eyes, so be careful
There's also a wine tasting spot where you have to buy a ticket at the entrance first.
The ticket was 20 Gel included the wine tasting. Worth the money and time.

This was the first time that Cindy and I have experienced a place such as this one where the town was made up of caves. The snow-covered landscape made for some interesting and captivating pictures.
These caves are an incredible. We highly recommend visiting.

An interesting site with the ruins of an ancient town. There is some light "climbing" involved, so wear good shoes. It was windy on top, but it was over 35 degrees warm when we visited, and therefore we didn't stay for very long. Basic fee 15 Lari, 20 with wine tasting. Audio tour guide available, and you can also book a private tour with a guide.

Moderate climb maybe takes 20-30 mins to reach at the top.
Shouldn't be an issue if you don't have any joint pain issues.
The view at the top is good and nice to see history of people in Uplishtikhe.
At the time entry price is 15 gel and for guide you get at 20 gel.

Out of all the cave towns in Georgia, this one is the oldest (2nd century BC). I've been here twice and I love it more each time. It can be windy so be careful when wearing a hat or other loose things. You can enjoy it without a guide but it would be better if you did a guided tour so that you get all the information about the different rooms. Be sure to wear decent shoes! You can pay a small amount to sample different wines and some chacha near the exit.

Fantastic cave town to visit, it’s quite big and spent 2hrs there. On the top, you can visit a nice church and see very beautiful river Mtkvari view. Top is windy and cold, must wear jacket. When come down, just follow your right side and you come come out from a small tunnel.

Cave town Built in AD 4-6 Centuries, 20,000+people used to live here. Complex systems and functions inside all the caves, from water/fire supply, art and entertainment, to wine cellar and pharmacy.

It is an ancient rock-hewn town in eastern Georgia- approx 10 kilometers east of the town of Gori.
Historically important site. A must visit for history or archeology enthusiast.
Climbing into the top is a tough task. But you won’t repent once you see it from the top. A church is located at the top. And a wine-yard on the other side of the rock.

Most amazing site with stunning views and incredible history. You can truly imagine yourself in the time when the city was alive with people, animals, and unique way of life amongstthe rocks.

I loved it. It has that polish of reality unfortunately, with people writing on the wall of such a historical landmark. It is admirable, I recommend taking the guide for explaining every location, room and things there

Uplistsikhe is a large cave town located in the Kvemo Kartli region of Georgia. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world, dating back to the 6th century BC. The town is carved into the side of a cliff and consists of a maze of interconnected caves, chambers, and tunnels. Uplistsikhe was once an important religious and political center, and it is home to a number of important archaeological sites, including a temple, a church, and a royal palace. The town is now a popular tourist destination, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Uplistsikhe is a must-see for anyone interested in Georgian history and culture. The town is a fascinating example of ancient architecture, and it is a great place to learn about the region's rich history. The views from Uplistsikhe are also simply stunning, and they make for a great photo opportunity.
If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable travel experience, I highly recommend visiting Uplistsikhe. It's a place that will stay with you long after you've left.

An absolute must-see in Georgia. The caves are very impressive. There is a parking for 2 GEL and a nice cafe nearby as well. Count at least 2 hours to visit the complex.

Me and my sister, mama had extremely good time with guide 'Natalie'. She told us about the history, culture, the beauty of Georgia. Also her tremendous guide made my mama so happy. We felt great hospitality from Georgian because of her💗 Of course, wine and food was awesome!

The Château and general experience is good and worth visiting. The guides are knowledgeable beyond doubt, speak perfect English and are ready to answer any additional questions.
The place chateau located in is also beautiful. You may get there from Tbilisi using Bolt for ≈70 GEL each ride.
The booking experience is terrible though. To book a visit, I had to:
1) make a phone call, to be referred to
2) an email (which I sent and received a non-delivery report), then to
3) WhatsApping with manager who asked me to
4) send an email to another address which did not worked to finally
5) have my booking confirmed via WhatsApp

You have to make registration but in case you haven’t - you should come as well!
Fantastic rose, incredible pkhali (maybe the best I’ve ever tasted) and bread.

An experience of it's kind, visit to Chateau Mukhrani was the highlight of our visit to Georgia. Our guide made reservations and at the winery, we had private tasting and tour very well hosted by Lucas. It was thrillig to get all the details of wine making, their flavours and their pairing. Situated just 40 mins from Tbilisi, the winery displays the feeling of royalty and since we visited around noon, the place was quite and peaceful. Lucas is a knowledgeable person, young and energetic wheras all other staff were courteous. We tasted four types of wine with different pairings. We purchased a few bottles too, based on suggestions from Lucas.
Highly recommended if you are in Tbilisi or traveling to Kutaisi from Tbilisi - to visit Chateau Mukhrani.

Great picnic spot. They pack you a picnic basket and you can lunch in their gardens. They have horse back riding as well.

We did a really nice wine tasting and tour here. You need to contact them to arrange tasting/tour but even if you don’t there is a nice restaurant where you can order by the glass/bottle. There was a confusion about where the tour starts for us, I’d advice them to make this clearer for the visitors as we directly went to the restaurant and the estate has many different buildings. The tour itself was nice. It was really cool to see the stainless tank production area. Lastly, my only complaint is about how the only place to purchase wines is the restaurant (which is the furthest away building from the parking lot - you need to carry them back to your car). I don’t understand why it’s not possible to purchase wines directly at the tasting room.

Lovely place. Even in winter the Palace and its premises look lovely. Food in the restaurant is very tasty. Wine tour we took was very good - it was well explained and allowed us to learn a lot.
We noticed that the place can be a bit chaotic and can overbook the tours. Some groups started late due to the lack of staff that could guide them.
But, its really worth visiting, especially if your schedule is flexible and you can tolerate potential delays. The place is lovely and worth sacrificing a couple of hours.

Beautiful place, very informative wine tour and lovely wine tasting. At the moment they are painting the Chateau so no pretty pictures with all the scaffolding around but that should be finished soon. Please make an appointment in advance for the horse riding and the wine tastings. Tour costs 20 lari pp and wine tastings start at 39 lari to 50lari
To buy wine at the estate is definately cheaper than at a restaurant starting at 30lari a bottle.

Beautiful place to rest with family or friends. Nice garden, restaurant with delicious Georgian and European dishes. Possiblity to taste various kind of wine. There are a lot of activities: riding, master class of making bread or churchkhela, painting with wine. Deep in park there is a nice banket hall for various events. Also it is a very nice place for wedding photo session.

Beautiful place, they give you a full wine tour and you can choose on the package on how many wines you would like to taste at the end of the tour. The tour cost is from GEL 35(basic 3 wine tasting) to an elaborate one GEL 80 (9 wine tasting). Overall a good experience. The chateau is simply beautiful.

It's a great place to taste wine and discover Georgian traditions about wine. There are packages to taste wine with a sommelier. There is a beautiful garden to relax in, as well as a restaurant. From Tbilisi, those places are very close. My recommendation ✅
Historic medieval compound & pilgrimage site featuring 2 church buildings & a storied cave.
One if the beautiful monasteries in Georgia. Shape of this monastery is different from other monasteries without dome roof. No transportation except taxi. Fresco and paintings are really impressive. Must visit place when you are in Tbilisi.

This was one of my favorite’s. Out in the middle of no where and still has a lot of original frescoes. SHIO-MGVIME MONASTERY
5th century monastery out in the middle of no where. It was my favorite today. Also had an evil eye in it? The entrance doors are very “Game of Thrones”

Incredible! Not a busy place. We were taken there by a taxi driver, Jvari + 20 GEL. It's worth it! The views along the way are amazing, the monastery complex is an island of peace and silence. The monastery is surrounded by rocks with caves that are visible directly from the territory of the monastery.

This is one my top destinations close to Tbilisi. The monastery is beautiful located in an astonishing nature. The environment is so different from Mtskheta and its just 25 minutes from the city Center. For more information I am adding up some photos of the interior as well as exterior.

The place was filled with so much history.
It is a long drive from Mtskheta.
But being there on top it is breathtaking.
It is peaceful and calm on top.
There is a small shop outside nearby where you can purchase religious items.

Oh wow this place is super unique. I was interested to come to this monastery because it's located in a limestone canyon. When I got there with my friends, I saw that most of the visitors were Georgian, and they came there for religious purposes. Not so many international tourists. A peaceful place.

A great place two dozen kilometers from the popular Mtskheta and Jvari. An ancient monastery surrounded by wooded cliffs. Graves and chapels, silence and peace. Very few tourists. A good place where you can meet the sunset (climbing on a rock nearby). Spend money and ask your driver to take you here.
