Fira

Fira is the capital of Santorini, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. The Museum of Prehistoric Thira displays items from the destroyed Bronze Age settlement of Akrotiri, including wall paintings and ceramics. Nearby, the whitewashed Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral has frescoes by local artist Christoforos Asimis. Fira’s clifftop location affords views of Nea Kameni, a still-active volcanic island to the west.

The Museum of Prehistoric Thera is a well-maintained museum located across from the bus station. It showcases rare discoveries from Akrotiri, dating back to ancient times. The museum features an impressive collection of artifacts, including a gold ibex figurine in excellent condition that dates back to the 17th century BC. Notable exhibits also include fossilized olive tree leaves that are estimated to be from around 60,000 BC and were found within the caldera.
This is such a great museum! The ceramics are from 17th Century BC and they’re still in such impeccable shape. The frescos are so vivid and unique, and the art style is so distinct to ancient Thera. Truly amazing colors and motifs. Well worth the stop for any history buff!

An spectacular archaeological collection - particularly of Minoan pottery, figurines, and (most especially) frescoes. The museum could do with a bit better signposting - you can very easily miss the spectacular fresco collection in the basement as there seem to be absolutely no signs telling you there's anything downstairs. And this would be a tragedy as the fresco exhibition is very well done with an attempt to arrange the frescoes as they were situated in context so you can appreciate how they functioned as wall decorations.
Zachary Gaber — Google review
It's not big, but seeing the wall murals, pottery detail and the small gold donkey was worth it. We went to akrotiri first, then to the museum ... seemed like a reasonable order.
Nadine Robinson — Google review
Small, but packed with finds from the excavation of Akrotiri. Beautiful pottery and amazing frescoes from so long ago it boggles the mind it’s still visible. Make sure to go downstairs where you can see larger fresco panels.
Danita Browne — Google review
Good modern museum, right now during Corona restrictions nice and quiet when you go for a look, they only let a maximum number of people in. You can buy a all in one ticket at the counter which lets you visit three musea for one price. Which is a nice offer as a single ticket is only a little bit cheaper, even if you visit just two musea it's worth it.
Jeroen van der Wal — Google review
6 euro entry fee If you like history, than don't miss this place. It's close to the Fira bus stop. Don't forget to visit the basement, there are some amazing frescos!!
Roni B — Google review
I was fascinated learning about how humans inhabited this area so long ago (3500 years!). With elaborate sewage systems and artwork, they were prepared for everything besides a cataclysmic event (earthquake, tsunami, eruption). In another part of the island, you can visit the actual site where these artifacts were found, and even another museum about Plato's theory that this was the lost land of Atlantis. Very interesting stuff.
Princess Lea — Google review
Definitely not worth the €6 entrance fee. The ground floor is mostly pottery, shards and similar artifacts although the mosaics are interesting especially the blue monkeys, but only at the end of the ground floor exhibit. The subfloor however has beautiful mosaics: quite different than the Roman ones I’m accustomed to. Still, was only inside overall about max 20 minutes. Everything is translated into English and you get a mini English museum pamphlet with the admission fee. There’s no air con indeed but the museum is spacious enough and it’s not crowded so didn’t feel too hot. Toilets are out of order though which is not acceptable for a museum!
Jennifer Smith — Google review
A place to see but rather disappointing considering the absence of air-conditioning and the few pieces to see. It is however very moving to see with our own eyes such old traces of human presence in this beautiful place on earth. The volcano’s irruption movie in the basement is a very interesting moment to realize even more the power of nature. You will also see there the famous painting used on every Santorini’s shopping bag.
Marie-Aude M-A — Google review
A small but well-organized museum that contains priceless frescoes and artifacts from Akrotiri. It was an unforgettable experience to see colorful paintings that were painted 3700 years ago. Thanks a lot

Toilets are out of order. No air conditioning. Little of interest for 6 euro. Rude staff member who aggressively said can take photos but no poses!!! Not surprisingly it was virtually empty. Better off reading Wikipedia.

Santorini, also known as Thira, is a cluster of islands located in the Cyclades region of Greece. The island group features stunning blue and white architecture typical of Greece and offers various tourism amenities. It is an extremely popular destination due to its rugged terrain and picturesque views, particularly from Oia village on the northwestern tip of the island where visitors can enjoy breathtaking vistas of a partially submerged caldera created by an active volcano.
Beautiful place to visit, expensive but with plenty of places to see and visit, if you stay overnight, make sure you enjoy the night life at the clubs.

Beautiful island with picturesque views. Sunset from Oia was really beautiful. Loved strolling around the island as well. Such a cute place.

Beautiful island know for its picturesque views, ash white buildings, and blue domes. Its a great spot to spend a honeymoon or a romantic vacation. I recommend do a boat tour to visit the parts of the island not accessible by car

Beautiful place to watch the sunset. A lot of shops, not expensive, and Greek restaurants where you can enjoy your time. Beautiful, we love it!
Roberto Ricci — Google review
The only negative is the crowds. It's a beautiful island and sailing into the caldera is one of the most amazing sites. If you can go off peak, April - May or September - October you will enjoy the experience so much more.

Santorini, ah, what a sight! It's like stepping into one of those glossy travel magazines that sit on your coffee table, only better because you're actually there, breathing in the salty Aegean air, not just daydreaming about it. My journey to this Greek paradise was nothing short of epic, filled with moments that made my heart skip a beat and my Instagram followers go green with envy. Let me walk you through it, Vespa style, with a twist of spontaneity and a dash of humor. First off, Santorini isn't just any island; it's the supermodel of the Greek isles, flaunting cliffs draped in white and blue, like it's perpetually dressed for a gala. Oia, the crown jewel, is where the sun dips into the sea, and the world stops to applaud. I mean, the sunsets here don't just set; they perform, leaving you with a lingering feeling of "Did I just witness that?" Food, oh the food! Greek cuisine in Santorini is like a love affair between your taste buds and fresh ingredients, with the scenic backdrop of the caldera acting as the ultimate third wheel. I dined at this little taverna, where the feta tasted like it had been blessed by Zeus himself, and the seafood? Fresh from Neptune's garden, I kid you not. Now, for the adventurers, the beaches here aren't your typical sandy stretches. Red Beach looks like Mars decided to have a beach party, and Kamari? Pebbles for sand, because why not? It's like Mother Nature was showing off her interior design skills. The history buffs aren't left out either. Akrotiri is like stepping back into a Bronze Age Instagram, minus the filters. This place got me wondering if the Minoans invented the hashtag. Here's some unsolicited advice: rent an ATV. It's the chariot of choice for navigating the island's rugged beauty. Just don't expect a smooth ride everywhere – Santorini likes to keep it real with a few bumps and curves, much like life, eh? Before you go thinking it's all sunshine and souvlaki, let me tell you, Santorini teaches you the art of the climb. Those cliffside views come at a price – a workout in the form of stairs, lots of them. But hey, who needs a gym when you've got a volcanic island as your treadmill? In closing, Santorini isn't just a destination; it's a vibe, a mood, an experience that stays with you long after you've left. It's where the blue of the sky and sea compete for your attention, where every meal is a feast, and every view a postcard. So, if you ever find yourself here, take a moment, take it all in, and remember – it's not just about the 'gram; it's about the moment. And maybe, just maybe, you'll find a piece of yourself left behind in those narrow, winding streets, waiting for you to return.

Beautiful Island with plenty to see! A bit pricy but well worth it!
Carley Petkau — Google review
Fantastic island, well worth the trip and lives up to the expectations. Be sure to get away from the rim. Oia is worth a visit, but we spent most of our time away from there. Sunset cruise is a must. We rented an ATV to get around and the locals hate those things but tolerate them and we never had anybody cut us off. Castello Veneziano in Emporio as well as the whole town is a great walk and much less touristy. Theros Wave bar, the ruins of Akrotiri, Venetsanos Winery, Skaros Rock, were highlights for us.
David Nicholas — Google review
Beautiful island, well known for its white and blue Cycladic houses where most units have a soaking pool facing the sea to enjoy the sunset. Fantastic view of the sea and sunset. Had a terrific stay in Santorini. Accommodation, food and activities are pricey on the island.

This island is just unbelievable. If you have a chance to plan a 3 day stop here - don’t hesitate do it - you won’t regret. Oia is the most beautiful part of the island to stay (but also most expensive). Breathtaking views of White House’s with blue domes built on a volcano cliff. Plenty of delicious food options and THE MOST beautiful sunsets in the world - Google it - I didn’t make it up :-)

Today, I would like to specifically describe the Airbnb village we live in, Anpo (Ε), which is located in πo of π. It is a small village, a small village on the Greek island of Torini. , The host put the name of this very nice lover very good, and they are all in Airbnb, and they like to move from the airport bus to Fhira, and all the items are in Airbnb. Two 1.6 euros are enough [color] In order to satisfy the Chinese stomach, I walk to buy freshly salvaged seafood every morning at 2 o'clock in the morning, which is also very convenient. The supermarket is also very close, and the things you want to buy are also cheap. Therefore, I think that children have more prices and more economic places to find a new home here. They are also local residents and have a sense of belonging. [rose][coffee][celebration]

A great island to see, espacially in June before it gets super crowded. To me you have a lot to see and enjoy if you stay 3 or 4 days. For a longer stay I am not sure if you don't get bored. Perhaps you can keep sunbathing for the rest of your stay...

Super expensive but the views are amazing. There are plenty of relaxed activities to do, go to the beach, walk the picturesque Fira, enjoy the view from Oia or even take the ferry to a nearby island.

Beautiful island . Can't really enjoy it in one day , from a cruise ship . Should have taken one of the 4 or 6 hour boat tours . One hour and 15 min. wait (in the sun ) for the cable car down to the boat dock . The famous stairs were 30 to 45 min. walk, and you had to maneuver through the donkeys and their dung. Restaurants didn't open till noon , but the food was excellent .

Ive done quite an in-depth review and due to its length I’ve had to do it in several parts I hope you find it interesting and useful. Santorini review part one. Santorini review October 1st - 6th In this review I will cover as much as I can & try to give the best advice as I think some reviews are lacking. Obviously I can only comment on my own experiences and what I personally heard. I hope you find this informative & useful. I will say this time of year places start to close. Places are quieter because of this and the atmosphere might not be as it is mid season but quieter also means no queues and more room to move. We wanted to come to Santorini as many people do I guess after seeing photos of the blue & white buildings of Thira (Fira) & Oia (Eeya). Obviously when choosing you have to take in what kind of holiday you want & how much you have to spend. In my opinion if you want the beach then maybe you will want to stay in Perivolos or Perissa (there maybe other beach resorts but I have no knowledge of these) which is located to the south of Mesa Vouno, the large rocky mountain that stands on the south east of the island & separates Perissa & Kamari . In Perivolos & Perissa there are many lovely places to stay. Many are the villa type hotel where you have your room and basic kitchen appliances to prepare food if you want to. Others have a restaurant attached. Most have swimming pools and are very close to the beach which is a black course volcanic sand which runs all the way along the coastline until Perissa where the rock stops you from going any further. The road that runs parallel with the beach is tarmac mostly with some needed repairs along the way which could twist your ankle if you’re not careful. There are no pavements on this side of the rock so keep your wits about you especially at night as street lights are not much of a thing here. The road is lined with restaurants all trying to compete with each other apart from 2 or 3 mini markets up as far as Perissa where you will find a little more choice and maybe a clothes shop or 2. About half way along this road between Perivolos & Perrissa there is a bus stop (Perivolos Termini) which you can find on the map. Just up the road from the bus stop which goes away from the beach (T junction) there is another bus stop at the mini market (Perivolos crossroads) the buses here are coaches and get pretty full so be prepared to have to stand. It’s about €2.20 each to go to Thira then €1.60 from Thira to Oia. Travelling to Oia (from Thira) sit on the right hand side of the bus for a good veiw. On the way back the bus takes a different route. Review on these places to come further on. Also I might add the bus station is a small place so watch out as all buses have to reverse in from a busy road. Villa Eleftheria Our hotel was Villa Eleftheria in Perivolos. It was a lovely quiet place. Clean & tidy run by a small family (grandfather & his wife and their 2 sons of about 30 years old which maybe twins, one of which has a wife with 2 young children. I might also add although courteous I think the family lack something. It’s almost like they would rather not speak to you. One brother especially seems he doesn’t want to be there. They could be a little more friendly and approachable). A nice choice at breakfast, bacon, eggs (boiled, fried or scrambled) small hotdog like sausages, mushrooms, toast, pastries, fruit & cake. Not sure what the deal with the coffee machine was as one of the sons would man the coffee machine everyday asking everyone what they wanted and giving it to them when it had finished. It would only produce half a cup of a small cup. The rooms have a little outside sitting area with a table & chairs. The bed was very comfortable with nice pillows but I guess this is depending how you like it. All the towels were of good quality, there were even bath robes and slippers if you needed them. Everything had been embroidered with the hotel logo.

Its amazing island 🏝️ There are many wonderful places and the sea there is very beautiful. You can also see the white color in all the buildings, and this is something special about this wonderful island. It is also preferable to go in the summer to enjoy it, and it is better to rent a car so that you can visit every place on the island with ease, as it is far from Athens is approximately half an hour away by plane

Really nice church in thira. If you visit Thira you need to goto this church it’s open most days, there’s a lot of nice art on the walls and ceiling’s. You do need to walk a little but up the stairs to visit this church so if you are in a wheelchair it might be slightly difficult to access. Apart from that it looks really great and nice place to visit.

Beautiful church, but terrible liturgical abuse by the priest. Mass felt like a Protestant service. The worst part of it was when they played pop music from a stereo accompanied with a violin player after mass as..a Recessional hymn I guess? People had little reverence for our Lord in the Eucharist, and we can thank our priests for that. They must lead their flock! The priest was late for mass like it was a 9-5 office job. BUT he was kind enough to hear my confession after mass. Our Lord Jesus deserves a better Liturgy. He is TRULY present in Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the mass. We need to STOP making the mass about OURSELVES. We will face judgement one day, MOST especially the priests, for making mass entertainment rather than correct worship. Let's always pray for our priests and their conversion so that they may offer the mass worthily and may God of course have mercy on our souls as well.

It is difficult not to visit the capital of Santorini island, and when you are in Fira town, it's hard not to see this cathedral. Probably everyone who walks from the side of the caldera has visited this beautiful cathedral and has pictures of it or of its beautifully made interior. Fine dining restaurant
Selene is a Michelin starred restaurant on Santorini that has been in operation for over 40 years. The menus focus on lunar-inspired dishes with a seafood emphasis. There are also a few a la carte options.
The dinner at Selene was chilled and pleasant sitting in the Garden area on warm Greek summer evening. There were a couple of hiccups of the evening but the staff was wiling to improve their service and food was delicious but the portion of the pre-dinner dishes could be slightly smaller and in general we enjoyed the experience. When the higher management learnt about our initial experience of the evening at Selene did not succeed our expectations, they were very willing to work out the way to improve our experience and make the effect to make up for us. All in all, I recommend visitors to visit the beautiful building and enjoy their hospitality.
Christina Kung — Google review
We are fans of chef Botrini (as evident from rating his Athens restaurant with 5/5). The Santorini restaurant's ambience is wonderful. There is attention to detail and the overall feeling is high end. That said, I highly regret dinner for 2 at Selene: it costed almost as much as a pair of Louboutin heels, minus the joy of owning and wearing them. Upon arrival we discovered the menus were not the ones displaying online but instead just a choice between a 3-course a la carte (of sorts), at 125 euro per person, and a bigger tasting menu at 210 euro (!) per person. We went for the "cheap" option. Each course featured 3 choices, expect 1 of the 3 was not available (and not substituted for) at the firsts section - completely unacceptable. The food was good (and very good looking) but not exquisite - there was a sense of "good enough for tourists" about it. The service was friendly but overly aggressive. Wine glasses were refilled after every couple of sips and we basically finished our bottle before the main course arrived. Subsequent suggestions were in the neighbourhood of 45 per glass (we succumbed). Despite ordering the "economy" menu we managed a 520 euro bill (prior to the tip) for 2. We take no issue with the amount per se, but when one negotiates at this price point one expects a certain level of satisfaction. This was nowhere near value for money. Crucially, immediately after the five hundred* euro dinner we went for drinks and ordered mini burgers and grilled prawns too. Not coming back.

Visited this place on May 27 2023. The atmosphere is really nice. It's a beautiful place with outdoor seating. The walk In is lined with cool historic photos. My opinion of the food was that it wasn't that good. i didn't like the mains. the first few courses were strong, and desert was good. Had two very poor experiences with Service. First the waitress pouring our wine misoperated the Coravin wine pouring device and spilled half the glass of wine onto the table. After cleaning it up, she did not finish the pour into my wife's glass. paid full price for less than half a glass of wine. Second issue was the waiter failed to let us know that replacing an item on the menu would incur a significant surcharge. Even if both these experiences had not happened, i did not feel the meal would have lived up to the cost of the meal.

VERY luxurious, in an old-school luxury kind of way, with white tablecloths and proper service. Not trying to be hip or edgy and it works for them. Beautiful space, great food and wines, good service. You get what you pay for though; it is very expensive.

My daughter and I made our reservation at Selene well ahead of our trip to Greece and very glad we did. From the moment you walk in you know you are in for a great experience. The restaurant is in an old monastery and the ambience is spectacular and very luxurious. From the minute you are seated, the service is spectacular and there is no detail left out. We had the tasting menu which consisted of more courses than I can count and each one was equally amazing. The service was awesome and all the staff were helpful and friendly and really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The restaurant is not in the least pretentious or stuffy. It was very pricey but in all sincerity, it was well worth the cost. If I was able to, I would definitely rate at 5+ stars. Highly recommend!

One of the top 10 meals I have ever had in my life. The service was impeccable and prompt. The ambience was very nice - you could be in the center of things if you wanted , or more secluded. The way the tables and furnishings were set up, guests had choices. And the food was incredible. Many dishes had stories tied to the local lore and culture (eg an old fishermen's lunch wrapped in paper, earthy mushrooms from the forest, lava salt from the isalnds). The colors and richness of the dishes were exciting and the flavor, particularly the umami dishes, were nice. Dessert for me ran a little long - we had 3 or four courses of desserts, and a few of them had multiple bites. On the other hand, it's really good value for how many plates you get. There were so many standouts... one was the custard that was both hot and cold (how do they do it?) and had crunchy corn element and warm spinach cream. Another was the zucchini quiche that looked like it was out of a Hollywood movie. Also - the espresso martini here... best I've had in my whole life. It hits exactly where it needs to, and it's just alcoholic enough. The flavor is intense and rich, so luscious. Would go here again next time I'm in Santorini.

Selene offers an absolute top notch dining experience. It was the culinary highlight of our Greece trip. Foremost, the food is authentic, and incredibly creative. We elected to do the ‘a la cartel’ option - which is served in a prefix menu format, but you’ll have options for each course. Highlights for us included the vegetarian carpaccio, various fish based main courses, and outstanding desserts. The bread is also the best we’d tried in Greece. Second, the atmosphere perfectly complements the food. Located in a monastery (which is still partially in use); the courtyard is beautifully appointed and incredibly charming. Finally, it was apparent that the staff deeply cares , and each went out of their way to elevate the experience. Service is top notch across the board. We look forward to returning one day - as this was a highlight from the trip.

Selene deserves 5 stars based off of the Google categories. The food was phenomonal and the servers were attentive. The stories behind every plate make the experience enjoyable. This was my favorite restaurant I visited outside of Botrini. If you have time to dine at both I highly recommend it. Don't shy away from indulging in the olive oil they serve either!

We came here for dinner based on Google and to be honest, wish we had read the reviews closely prior to attending. The restaurant ambiance and staff were great. Walking into the restaurant you definitely get the feeling of high end. The staff are friendly and welcoming. That gets 5/5 However, the food did not live up to its hype. For two, our bill came to about 700 euros and we still had to order room service when we got back to our hotel. I’ve been to many other restaurants that are Michelin stars or have Michelin-star chefs and I enjoyed them much better. I didn’t have an issue paying the bill but, for 700 euros, I expected a certain level of satisfaction which wasn’t there. Wouldn’t be on my recommend restaurants.

Last night, I dined at Selene restaurant. Before going, I had reservations due to the mixed Google reviews I had read. However, I prefer forming my own judgments, and I'm delighted I did. Having spent the past two weeks in Santorini, with a background in the culinary and hospitality industry, I relish experiencing local cuisine and fine dining options wherever I travel. Prior to my visit, I knew Selene was known for fine dining, so my expectations were high. Although finding this hidden gem along a cobblestone alley from a main road was a bit challenging, the beautiful building's entrance welcomed me. The hostess escorted us to the main restaurant, sharing its history as a former monastery still partially in use. This unique blend of old-world charm and modern artistry immediately captivated me. Stepping into the main dining area, a stunning courtyard with a Moroccan ambiance transported me to a different Santorini. Seated by a serene pond, surrounded by palm trees, birdsong, and a well-curated soundtrack, the ambiance was exceptional. When it came to the gastronomic journey, I was pleased to have three options: a tasting menu, a vegetarian version, and an à la carte selection. Despite concerns about portion size in previous reviews, each dish from start to finish was exciting, meticulously crafted, and bursting with flavor. The staff's knowledge was impressive; every team member could eloquently describe the dishes. Opting for the wine pairing, I was equally impressed by the exceptional wines that flawlessly complemented each course, generously poured throughout the evening. The service and food preparation were impeccable, earning another perfect score. In summary, Selene is not your typical Greek taverna or budget-friendly eatery. It's a hidden fine dining oasis, and such quality comes at a price. If you seek a breathtaking view of the caldera, you won't find it here. However, if you appreciate world-class cuisine and impeccable service, this restaurant exceeds expectations. I left Selene still savoring the exquisite meal, and it's a rare experience to be this satiated the next day. I wish the restaurant continued success and believe people should exercise caution when posting online reviews, as they can unfairly impact businesses. Selene is a testament to a restaurant that truly cares. A perfect ten out of ten.

Amazing food experience, and wonderful service 13 course menu Speechless for most of the meal due to the creativity and flavor pairings in each dish Closes on 18-Oct 2023 for the season

I will fly from Texas again to eat at Selene! (Oh, and Greece was nice too ;) Truly incredible ‘mnemes’ experience with around 20 courses total— almost every bite was amazing and had to be savored. And the staff was incredibly hospitable too. Great job, team!

Ouzeri is a casual restaurant located in Fira, offering classic Greek dishes and unique cuisine with a twist. The restaurant provides a cozy atmosphere for guests to enjoy small plates, pasta, and risotto on its patio. It is conveniently situated just off the main walkway, close to Santorini Bus Stop 10 and the Museum of Prehistoric Thera.
This place is so under rated the food is so tasty and authentic, we came back twice just to try more of their incredible menu! The staff is incredibly inviting and friendly! Hands down the best food we had in Fira!

All dishes are delicious! The service is also superb- everyone is so nice and helpful here! Definitely a real gem! The tomato fritters are the best- they are so delicious that we came back the next day ordered two orders! The orange cream filo is awesome with super crispy filo and fragrant orange cream. Definitely the best meal we had at Santorini!
Qian Zhang — Google review
This place was recommended by a friend to visit. Ouzeri did not disappoint. The staff greeted is quickly and situated us at a table. We placed our order and the food came out extremely quick. We were really surprised by the speed they were able to provide service. We loved all of the dishes we got, especially the meatballs. Wouls definitely come and eat here again.

Visited for lunch, friendly staff. Prices are quite good for a restaurant in Fira. Food was OK although partner found pork chop a little tough. But overall ambience and view was nice. Service was very attentive but not over the top. All done quickly and with a smile.

The place had a nice vibe when we were there. The boss and staff were friendly and professional. The service and food delivery was fast considering the amount of customers. The food and drinks we had were really good. We had no complaints at all and would come back if we are in Fira again.

We've been in Greece for 5 days (Santorini for 2 days) and this was the BEST meal we've had so far. The Lamb Shank was perfect. The staff was incredibly nice and brought us out this stunning dessert. Thank you so much for an amazing night.

This little hidden gem is such a perfect place to have a quiet meal, preferably dinner, then take a stroll through the markets for some night shopping. The staff are so very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend ordering something from their specials menu on the chalkboard

we were recommended by our hotel reception. This is a nice restaurant just off the square in fira It is run by a little old lady who really looks after her guests. At first we were shown to a table in the back of the restaurant however it over looked an area where children were playing so it was a bit noisy the staff were happy to move us to a quieter table. The food was excellent and not too overpriced for where it is. I would recommend booking in advance as they do get busy just after sunset.
T. Mason — Google review
Located in the heart of Fira, I would highly recommend anyone looking for a delicious meal that’s decently priced and doesn’t mind not having a view of the caldera. A cozy restaurant with the most friendliest waiters! We had the best greek salad, the tomatoes and cucumbers were so vibrant and fresh, linguini with 4 huge prawns, grilled whole seabass, fried calamari and crispy potatoes. They were a little stingy with the feta and the calamari were not as big as I would have hoped. The linguini is still something i think about because it was THAT good!

One of the only places on the island you can find good, ACTUALLY authentic Greek food (coming from a half-Greek who has eaten it at home my whole life). Nice place to sit too. We really enjoyed our meal.
Anna Reck — Google review
Service was very fast and friendly. Food delicious. Only reason to reduce by one star is that portions are smaller compared to other restaurants and prices are little higher. Anyhow we would definitely recommend to come here.
Stefan W. — Google review
We visited this restaurant due to the positive reviews. We had the tomato keftedes, fava with pita bread and stuffed calamari with cocktails. Fava with warm and soft pita bread was really good. Tomato Keftedes were new to us and it was a great choice. Stuffed calamari was so-so. Not sure if the cheese really goes well with it. As with the other restaurant we visited in Santorini, we were informed that the bill excluded tips during payment. So we rounded up the bill and paid 50 EUR. Note that there isn't any sunset view from the restaurant even though it is a short walking distance to the viewpoints.

Fanari is a charming cliffside restaurant in Fira, Santorini, offering authentic Greek cuisine with a casual taverna vibe. The restaurant's location provides stunning sunset views from its terrace, making it a popular spot during that time. The menu features a great selection of seafood and other Greek specialties made from locally sourced ingredients, showcasing the unique flavors of Santorini.
Fanari is hands down the best restaurant in Greece. The views are beyond amazing here and the food is extremely tasty. The portion sizes are perfect and the pricing of their menu is reasonable. This restaurant has plenty of seating and each seat has a stunning view of the water. The service is amazing, you do not have to wait long for your food at all. This was my first time on Greece and I came here twice! I wish I had more time to come back again. I would really encourage everyone to visit this amazing restaurant! You will not be disappointed at all!!!! Thank you so much Fanari staff for treating us so well and for your amazing service! We will definitely be back!

Amazing restaurant and the plates are enormous! We ordered 6 plates for 7 people and it was way too much of delicious food! We ordered the moussaka, the shrimp pasta and mix seafood plate. Everything was tasty. The waiters were very patient and nice. The view is stunning. Would definitely come back

[Visited in April] Very tasty food, biiiig portions, vegetarian options (eggplant, risotto, pasta, fried cheese, veggies, zucchini balls) AND ... *no bad seats* in the house for sunset! (Their terrace is built in steps so every table has a nice view). Staff was absolutely friendly and a very nice choice of music for the sunset. Got busy around 19:00 (sunset at 19:50) but had no problem getting a table as walk-ins.
Katharina Koch — Google review
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere where you can see the view of the caldera very clearly. The waiters were polite and attentive. The service was very professional and fast. We ate calamari and fish, they weren't great but they were good. Prices are high like many restaurants around. It is a preferable restaurant to dine with a view rather than sitting in an ordinary place. Don't expect gastronomic meals.

Went there for sunset in Santorini and absolutely the best place to go. There are a lot of option but this place suits us the most. Going to the restaurant took a little bit of effort by going down the steps, met donkeys along the way but that’s how Greek it is. Reservation for the seat will be recommended for this. The truffle risotto was amazing! The view was breathtaking.

Solid 4 stars! Such a lovely view and friendly staff. We got the tzatziki to start and the grilled octopus as a main which was so good - crispy, charred and so flavourful. We also got a simple Napoli spaghetti, decent. Overall good food, service and atmosphere

Exceptional view and even more exceptional view. Our first choice was a restaurant nearby that happened to be closed. Running out of time before we needed to head to the airport, I decided to go to this place. It turned out to be a undeniably amazing experience. The steak, shrimp, and pasta dishes we had were the best I had in Greece. I would definitely recommend this location with two big thumbs up!

This restaurant is an absolute gem! We found it after climbing the stairs, the food was so delicious, fresh, and filling. Really some of the best food we’ve had during our whole trip. The location and views are a total plus and really superior. We had the mixed appetizer platter and it was enough for two very hungry people. They give generous portions. Would love to return!

Beautiful setting. Absolutely amazing views. Should go there 30 mins before sunset and get a corner seat. We tried stuffed vegetables and fava split and were dumbfounded by the flavors. Not typical European stuff where flavors are few and focussed. Their dishes had a burst of them, all complimenting each other. Portion sizes were a bit off though. We were two people and thought that 2 dishes costing around 15 euros each will be filling but it left us wanting just a bit more. Not enough to order a third dish, but enough to grab something snacky later on.
Arpit Aggarwal — Google review
Large restaurant with an excellent view by the caldera, especially for sunset. We ordered a lot of dishes which came very quickly. The tomato balls and the orzo were my favorites in particular. You can reserve by sending them an email to get a nice table by the lookout. Overall great experience!

Had a front row sunset (recommend booking) We had the pizza and the lamb stick both were amazing just a shame they were cold! Service was good considering of people in the restaurant at the time although we had to wait a little for food which was fine. Only think I would say it’s located right near the donkey part on the steps to the port so I could smell that from time to time! Didn’t effect the experience though!

The Greek restaurant Μεταξύ Μας is a popular choice for those looking for fresh and authentic Santorinian and Cretan cuisine served with friendly service. The menu features a variety of local and Cretan dishes, making it a great choice for both locals and tourists alike. The taverna also offers delicious raki drinks.
So happy to get a late lunch at 2:30 opening today without a reservation. We were told best food on the island and I agree. Might have been the best lamb shank I have ever eaten. Fabulous service. The complimentary bread/olives/cheese and cheesecake were a lovely surprise. The patio and view were lovely. Only disclaimer is the walk down the hill road is steep for anyone that might have hip or leg issues.

The food is good but we didn't find it amazing. We had dinner here on two evenings as it was right next to our B&B. The service on the first evening was very good but the second day was average. The view from the terrace was breathtaking and worth visiting. The dessert which was a home made cheese cake was the best part of the meal.

Great food and great service! We had the baked asparagus, lamb shank and grilled octopus. All EXCELLENT! Service was cheerful and brisk. Atmosphere was casual and fun. We sat inside coz we didn’t book early enough - outside had beautiful views. I had an amazing experience overall! If you are in Santorini make sure you make your way here! Make a reservation though. And don’t walk - it’s at the top of a hill and a good uphill climb, arrange to get driven!

This was recommended to us by Nick White during our island tour with him (reviewed). It did NOT disappoint! We had the pomegranate salad, grilled shrimp, shrimp saganaki and some pork nuggets dish that was our favorite. So freaking good! They also brought us some free cheesecake that was heaven. We sat on the terrace under umbrellas and enjoyed the view. There were two cute kittens walking around the tables getting some love, which is so Greece and pretty adorable. We highly recommend if you are looking for authentic Greek food that is super delicious!!!

Small place, owned by two brothers from Crete, Chania. The place serves Greek food with Cretan influences. People are friendly and the service is swift. The food is absolutely delicious making this one of the best places to try out Greek cuisine. Definitely will re-visit! Access: you will need to park on the main road and then walk a small distance to reach the restaurant. Book before you go!

The best meal we had in Santorini. So good that we went back two days later! The asparagus dip is a must, same with the cheese rolls. The mains are massive and incredible. They provide complimentary shots at the start with a small plate of cheese and olives, as well as complimentary cheesecake at the end which was beyond delicious. I'm still dreaming of it 🤤

The place is amazing! The service is great, they know their food and drinks, gave us the best recommendations ever!!! And the price is so economical, we have 7 people ate at least 8 main dishes and 4 wines, we spend bout 300 euros. We loved this place so much!

Amazing drive through the winding roads that lead up to the top of the mountain where this gem is hidden. Park at the church parking and walk down the big white stairs to the restaurant. Don’t walk the rocky path as it’s slippery. The view, the food and the staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. Call ahead to get a table with the view. I was able to get a table under the covered area as I called a few hours before. They are accommodating.

Ok, I cannot tell you, as a native Greek, I am very skeptical of the sort of the nouveau type of Greek cuisine, doubly so a place that can provide global level tastes and service in a small, provincial package, AND YET! Metaxi Mas was something special, really! From the fact that they actually had and honored our reservation, to the timely seating, to the exemplary, swift and helpful service, it was really a special and perhaps unexpected experience, ESPECIALLY in light of the fact that we arrived just as the place was peaking and was slammed with all its tables full. The food spoke for itself. All the presentations, temperature and portion sizes were fantastic. The tastes were certainly familiar Greek, but with that extra twist that elevated them to another level. House wines were great as well. Further, they went out of their way to make my wife's gluten free requirements and didn't even blink to our questions or requests. And did I tell you that the prices were amazingly fair? We left wondering how we wound up so full and the check reasonably light (I should not complain!). In any case, this place is so very great, and such a great opportunity to leave the beaten path of the island which is overrun. My family dinner will likely not be forgotten and will remain the top memory of Santorini and for this, again my thanks to all the staff at Metaxi Mas!

Our favourite restaurant in Santorini and the only one we came back to for lunch after we’ve had dinner a few days before. Food is excellent: can recommend the pomegranate salad and the beef fillet. Prices are fair, not excessive like at most other places on the island. The only minor inconvenience is the service: Waiters were very friendly but the place seems to operate in a special island time, it took us 2 hours to have a starter and mains over lunch. So if you are in a hurry with a tight schedule, maybe not your place. Otherwise, strong recommendation to visit!

Recommend from local. Delicious food with good vibes, we sat outside enjoy our dinner with the beautiful view. They have heater to keep us warm as well. I really like the linguini , seafood is so fresh and also the grilled chicken is so juicy! Only steak was a disappointed, it's kind of chewy, wish we should order lamb shank instead. Price is reasonable with wine and we had a great dinner, we would come back on our next visit.

Came here with my family and had an amazing time. The view was beautiful and the food… the food was amazing. We ordered 3 starters and 3 main dishes and split it all of family style. The food was delicious and I can’t wait to eat here again before our trip is over. Grape leaves with the yogurt. The cheese with asparagus, and the pork with feta sauce were my favs.

Wow, the best restaurant we went on our trip. The food was amazing, every single dish from salad to meat was so good that we almost cried. You could taste the good ingredients and the love. Besides the view out of the world and the location super romantic and lovely. PS. Very nice service staff who are always open for a good chat and do recommendations with a warm smile and a lot of charm. We liked it so much that we went twice in a row.

Service was warm and friendly. Complimentary offerings of medze and local alcohol as well as dessert of cheesecake which was good and they offered this to us without prompting us to order desserts- which was rather generous of them. Food quality was good and pricing reasonable for Santorini. Quaint traditional feel and I think probably good views of seated outside but we arrived when it was too dark to see the views
Eileen Wee — Google review
Food here is absolutely amazing! Went for lunch and liked it so much we went back for dinner. Grilled Octopus, Sirloin Steak, Chickpeas Stew, T-Bone Veal Steak, Pomegranate Salad and Kataifi Cheese and Jam were all winners. I highly recommend eating here, Google doesn't have enough stars for this place!
T Roberts — Google review
The kind of places that Google should have 10 stars for. Food, atmosphere, attentive staff… this was a memorable meal in whole Greece. We were planning to go back but couldn’t make it unfortunately. Eggplant salad (day special), fava bean spread and octopus were amazing! Please do not give hostess/waiters a bad time with “table with a view” requests, trust me, food is as good in the whole restaurant!
Victor Estrada — Google review
Rustic, well cooked and delicious all around. The kataifi cheese rolls (4 types of cheese) served with jam is not something you commonly find and is a must. We were served complimentary cheese and olives, raki and cheesecake. Definitely a top dining spot with foods that will not disappoint and views of the nearby hill and countryside of Santorini. It comes highly recommended but also known for difficulty in securing a seat for dinner so would suggest calling few days ahead. Got lucky in securing a table calling earlier in the day and came before general dinner time (17.00) but the terrace seating area was already packed and as such, the waiters seemed overwhelmed and it took substantial time and for taking our orders and checking the bill.
Pat Kay — Google review
Pros: Nice staff + Welcome shot with tapas + Super delicious free Cheesecake as dessert + Tasty fried potatoes + Blanket is available if you feel cold Cons: Lamb with yoghurt sauce was okay, nothing special + Do not go there without reservation + Santorini baked white aubergines was almost tasteless; it needs more cheese and salt + Moussaka was less than okay

The cafe Volkan on the Rocks in Fira is a great place to enjoy some amazing Santorini craft beer, as well as breakfast or lunch. It has a breezy clifftop terrace overlooking the caldera, which is a great spot to relax and take in the amazing view.
Thanks to the reservation, we were guaranteed a table with a great view of the caldera. The restaurant is crowded, but the dishes are served smoothly. Delicious, fresh dishes and salads. Very good drinks. Thank you for your hospitality.

Ugh the view! This was the first restaurant that I came across while exploring Santorini. Initially I didn’t stop thinking that I would find something else along the way but I actually ended up walking back because the view was just amazing and the vibe was just cool. There were other places that had nice views as well but I don’t know why, I was drawn by the ambience of this place. Service was not so good lol, waiters and waitresses were not attentive which is why I gave this place 4 stars. But enough about views and service, food was great! The visuals made it even more appetizing. It was fresh, colorful, authentic and combined with drinks, music and view, ahhh, wish I could come back again!

Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant, we wanted something a bit more affordable which is hard to find in Santorini but this place delivered on food, service and one of the best views! They serve tapas at the top, there is also a restaurant and bar which extends over a few levels along the cliff. A really unique find and unexpected. Make sure to book this one ☝🏼

I believe Volkan on the Rocks and Volkan Pizza are two different places, but I can’t seem to find their pizza spot on Google maps. This was my favorite meal in Santorini! The view was fantastic even though it was quite breezy. Attentive service. Overall an amazing meal

Loved the view here and the tables. Felt a bit chilly and they were out of all the local beer 'supply problem' apparently which seemed odd. The drinks were a tad pricey for what they were, but the setting is beautiful and the gardens lovely, and we felt welcome to linger and enjoy

This place has probably the best sunset view of Fira. We can’t say the same about the food and the wine. The only sparkling wine we can order by glasses is an Extra Dry, not even bad but low choice. We ordered fava and spicy feta spreads. The first one was not good at all, the second one was a little too spicy but ok. It’s definitely ok also to pay a bit more because of the view, but the quality and the number of choices must be at least decent. I suggest to drink a bottle of wine during the sunset. Service was very good, all of the waiters were very kind.

Awesome view and nice cocktails. Too high prices for those poor dishes. The service is a bit overwhelming for the pressure they apply on you in every step of your stay (from the order to adding the tip at the end).

Absolutely incredible! We just had our honeymoon in Santorini, and after 8 days and a whooooole lot of meals, this was our absolute favorite!!!!! Nothing else even compared You can’t beat the view — make sure to make a reservation if you want to dine at sunset! Food was amazing… we ordered the lamb & the Seafood Orzo (shrimp & mussels), & of course white wine!!!! A must when staying on the island!!!!

Best little cafe, brunch place on the island in my opinion for the following reasons; Beat view I found in santorini: You feel as though you are in the centre of the island with a clear non obstructed view of the volcano. The vibe is amazing, and the venue itself is well maintained and a perfect setting for some food and drink. It feels like a movie set rather than a real place. The servers are amazing, so friendly, we're happy to have a little chat and a joke. They come from all over Greece. They are really good people. Finally, the food. It's so refreshing and light. We had fredo capacino glico (sweet), avocado, egg toast, and pancakes for after. The food here has such a great taste as it is greek products but also they make and present the food very well. It was just the perfect little place to beat the heat and take on this incredible view of such an astonishing natural phenomenon.

We spent 2 evenings here, wow the view was amazing! Food the first night was great even though their oven had broken. The outdoor cinema was a fantastic experience. This place is criminally underrated for drinks and a lite bite. The cocktails and views are phenomenal (the passion and basil was great). The staff was also very nice. You can always call them over if you need something and they leave you to enjoy your meal and drinks otherwise.

Enjoyed the view for hours on end. But pricey but you can beat the view - this location gives cliffside perspective at one end and if you find the secret walkway down you will encounter a sun facing sunset. Stay for MAMA MIA cinema nightly! How cute! We tried the fried cheese and passion fruit lemonade!

The view and the location, the atmosphere are wonderful. We were tired and just want to stay for 20 minutes so we ordered coffee. I would say it is not tasty at all and overpriced. I didn’t try other dishes but the coffee is really bad… However, I enjoyed the cliff view and the peaceful moments here.

I would've given 5 stars for food as the dishes themselves were good but we faced an issue where the orange juice had multiple dead bugs. We notified the server and there were no accommodations or apologies when we brought it up. They did replace it with a new glass of juice. Be careful when you order at night and examine your drinks and food. The salad was full of bread but you can't tell from the picture. The pasta was pretty good it was like a pistachio mushroom pasta. The fritters were really good. The view and ambience is great but the service was non-existent except for when it came to paying the bill. When we were ready to pay the bill the server asked us to hand him our plates. Everywhere else in Santorini we've had impeccable service but this one was by far service was disappointing. I've eaten in other places in Fira that had high remarks and our servers were really attentive but may not come back here as everything is overpriced for a sub par dinning experience.

Wonderful little spot for a restaurant. Only stopped for a drink the but the views to go with it were amazing. Good options available for beer and cocktails. Disappointed with the homemade lemonade. Do a nightly showing of mamma Mia at 2100 which would have wanted to attend. Plenty umbrellas for shade available. Service was ok, struggled to pay as it had to be the server who served us.
