Kakunodate Rekishi-mura Aoyagi-ke (Aoyagi Samurai House)

Mentioned on
Historical landmark
Museums
Aoyagi Samurai House is a museum situated in a former samurai residence, showcasing swords, art pieces, and artifacts related to Japanese warriors and their culture. The estate also boasts of a garden, shop, and eatery. This landmark is one of the largest houses in its district and offers an intriguing way to spend an hour or more exploring the extensive collection of mementos from the Edo era until World War II.
Very beautiful samurai house 500 Yen for entrance fee , it’s worth it , the house been very well looking after inside was so nice very good experience to visit this house , highly recommended to come here , most of the place around here have to pay 500 Yen fee to entrance but this house kinda big and so many things to see 😊

Beautiful amazing museum/samurai’s house with beautiful collection of samurai armours, and a sword holding experience and a samurai helmet wearing experience. I love this museum and it’s one of the best I’ve been in the world. It’s really beautiful as well! I highly recommend it.

One of the best museums I've seen in Japan, extensive collection of mementos from Edo era until WW2.

In fall foliage time, you not only can take pictures on the colourful maple trees along the two streets where the heritage Samurai houses located, you can also take pictures in the evening when the houses got their trees illuminated. We came after a heavy rain. All tourists were gone except some serious amateur photographers. The wet streets offered interesting reflections on the tree colours and the vehicle lights. A surprise!

Most all samurai house hold items and arms used are displayed. The descriptions are both in Japanese and English. It's take around 30 mins to finish the self tour. Admission fee cost 500 yen per person. It's worth to study the history of Samurai in the past.

Fascinating history and beautiful displays and grounds. History was not coherently developed as there were many layers of history. Anyone would appreciate more of what they’re seeing with a bit of study in advance.
Bay Walker — Google review
The host shared lots of precious historic items that preserved so well, letting visitors get a closer glimpse of the living in the past. They showed a general’s sword & weapon which let visitor to hold inside a box! That’s a brilliant idea! It’s soooo heavy… with the armour on, it’s nearly 10kg to wave in the battle. And a distant relative’s amazing artworks which contribute so much in Japanese art, it’s definitely worth a visit besides the Sakura road.
Chan Kelow — Google review
This is first samurai house that I had visited in Japan (not counting castle ). There is a lot of different building for different function. Highly recommended if you love history and culture. Comparing to old photos in google maps, I find that there are a lot of changes done. According to the guides, they had closed for some time - perhaps several months (predicted from latest entries before April 2018) before reopening it. 500 yen for entrance and premium tour costed another 500 yen. We paid for Premium tour for the main building in order to get to know the house better. Our guide was really kind and knowledgeable. I am not sure if there is English version. Half understanding Japanese, I follow my husband around. We enjoyed matcha in the newly changed Japanese tea restaurant. What interest me besides buildings are old photos presented. There is photos of the last General of Edo Periods. You could see photos of people wearing Hakama and also kimono around.

Ani Ski Resort (Mt. Moriyoshi)

Outdoor Activities
Ski & Snowboard Areas
Ani Ski Resort (Mt. Moriyoshi) is a beautiful destination for winter and summer activities. Visitors can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, tours to see "ice monsters" and hiking in the summer. The resort has a familiar atmosphere with few crowds and English-speaking staff. It offers affordable lift ticket options, making it an ideal destination for backcountry enthusiasts. Despite low snow seasons, the snow quality above 900m is immaculate.
This place is amazing and I enjoyed it much more than Hakkoda. The ski lift ticket includes the gondola! And the ski rental + full day lift ticket is an absolute deal. The staff at the ticket booth was a bit rude to guests. The rental gear is cheap but very old. There's plenty of seating in the restaurant. The food was meh. There's very limited seating outside the restaurant. No coin lockers for suitcases that I could see. There's also nowhere to place suitcases without it getting in the way. If you're traveling with luggage, I recommend using the 200 yen luggage storage service at Aniai Station.

snow quality is awesome. view is magnificent. too. not so many people here, so it's very fast to take gondola again.
Daniel Kao — Google review
Super nice place, familiar, little resort, not much people and staff that speaks English. A must for backcountry people. It is cheap with different lift ticket options which comes handy. Even for a low snow season, above 900m everything is immaculate. Coming back for sureeee
Tasio Cia Fancelli — Google review
I came to see the Akita Inu and walk at the top of the mountain to see the monsters. The food was like instant food so maybe skip this one. The workers at the top were really kind.
DevIppo YouTube — Google review
Look, it's a tiny little home town ski area (the town literally owns it). If you're looking for a huge variety of groomed runs, this isn't the place. But if you're willing to search out stashes of powder in the trees, this is a good spot. If you're in the area in winter, the "snow monster" hike is fun for everyone, even non-skiers. The main run is mostly green, perhaps easy blue in places. It's a great cruiser.

My review is mainly for the michi-no-eki here. The airport is very small and the parking is easy and free. It can be confusing to determine where to go for the michi-no-eki stamp, but it’s just in the main entrance walkway before you get to the check in counters, meaning you don’t need to go inside the airport for it.

(Translated by Google) There are two airports in our Akita prefecture. One is the long-established Akita Airport, and the other is Odate-Noshiro Airport, located in Kitaakita City. Odate-Noshiro Airport opened on July 18, 1998. Although 23 years have passed, it is still a new and young airport in Japan. Currently, it doubles as a roadside station and is one of the tourist hubs in northern Akita Prefecture. Originally, the area was blessed with rich tourist attractions such as the Shirakami Mountains, Lake Towada, and Hachimantai, but the drawback was poor transportation. Before the airport opened, the only direct public transportation to the metropolitan area was the sleeper train Akebono. Even after the Akita Shinkansen was built, there was only a conventional line from Akita Station, so it took 5 hours (-_-;) Therefore, construction began on the construction of an airport for direct flights, with the aim of reducing the travel time to one hour. Considering it has been over 20 years, the inside of the airport is quite clean and comfortable (#^.^#) It may have been renovated when the roadside station was built (*´з`) A lot of wood is used to symbolize Noshiro's nickname, ``Noshiro, the City of Wood'', which is also included in the airport's name. It's probably Akita cedar. Monuments to the Namahage and Akita Inu dogs, the tourism ambassadors representing Akita, will also be there to welcome you (^^♪ The boarding gate for the plane is on the second floor, and the observation deck is on the third floor. As for the observation deck, I like the view when you take the elevator and the door opens (*^^*) It looks like a shadow puppet. Of course, you can also see the runway. When you turn towards the entrance, you can see the park within the premises, but you can also see Kitaakita City in the back, which is quite nice. For some reason, it reminds me of the song "Blue Mountains" (lol) It also serves as a roadside station, so you can buy local specialties and souvenirs, and there is also a restaurant. The roads are well maintained and it is an easy spot to visit, so please stop by if you are in the area \(^o^)/ (Original)

Currently, ANA flights from Tokyo operate three times a day, making it more convenient. The nearest station is Takasu Station, and the airport bus costs 290 yen. For Noshiro direction, transfer to JR here. You can go to Odate directly to Odate Station for 940 yen. Rather than going directly, you can get on and off at any bus stop along the way. Buses generally run in time with flights, even if there are some delays. It is a small but beautiful airport, with a distinctive interior that uses a lot of wood. Namahage and Akita dog statues will welcome you. The floor has an atrium structure and the ceiling is high, so even though it's compact, it doesn't feel cramped. There are souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes, and rental car counters, but there are no convenience stores. There is also an observation deck, and about half of it is open even during the snowy season. The fence is a regular fence, and it is easy to take photos due to its height, but the location of the boarding bridge makes it a little difficult to take photos of parked airplanes. Airport buses now accept various credit cards, transportation IC cards, electronic money, and various QR code payments. However, the driver uses a mobile terminal for payment, so if there are many people, it may not be as smooth. Yasu-no-Taki Falls is a magnificent waterfall surrounded by lush vegetation and known for its stunning autumn colors. The falls can be reached via a wooded promenade, which becomes steeper as one approaches the waterfall. Visitors are advised to exercise caution due to the presence of bears in the area.
(Translated by Google) A tiered waterfall with a drop of 90m flowing into Nakanomatasawa. It has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls. The name ``An'' is the name of a woman who threw herself into the waterfall, and there is a tragic love story that remains. After that, it is a well-maintained tourist waterfall that became a place for love fulfillment. It is about 1.9km from the entrance to the waterfall, and takes about 25 to 30 minutes. Basically, the promenade is well maintained. Be careful as there are some places where the footing is narrow. If you proceed further from the lower waterfall, you can reach the upper waterfall and the lower waterfall entrance. Although the road is a little rough, there are signs that the road has been maintained. Climbing and winding the upper level is the realm of advanced climbers, and although it's not that great, there's no atmosphere in which you can climb. I don't think it's possible to go to Kaminagaguchi from here. It's a very irregular route, but it will take you to Kamidakuguchi. You can reach it by filling up Momodosawa and entering Nakanomatasawa. The distance is approximately 8.8 km from the Wild Birds and Wildlife Center to Ochiguchi, and more than half of the route involves mountain climbing, which requires a certain level of skill and physical strength. It's a place that you can't just go to as a tourist. Wear clothes that are easy to move in and do not expose your skin. It is possible to wear sneakers, but it is easier if you wear light mountain climbing shoes. There is a parking lot that can accommodate 20 cars and a toilet. I visited on a fine autumn day. When walking on the promenade in the woods along a gentle slope for a while, the road becomes rather steep, The Yasunotaki waterfall starts to appear from the tree. It is near the noon, and the sun was shining in the falls. The waterfall looking up from the waterfall pot is also good, but I think that the view from the side that climbed the path of the left hand facing the waterfall is the best. A white waterfall on the autumnal leaves of Nishiki, a wonderful moment. Since it is an area of bear, be careful with turns especially not to come across.

(Translated by Google) It's a waterfall. (Scenic spots) It has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls and has two tiers, with a height of approximately 90 meters. Here are some things to keep in mind when visiting for the first time. I would appreciate it if you could refer to it as it is important. ① Please note that the promenade will not be closed from July 1st to September 30th, 2020 due to construction work, so please be aware of this when visiting. Also, as it is a very mountainous road and the area is difficult to melt snow, it seems that it is closed to traffic from November to April every year. It seems to change depending on the weather, so it's best to check in advance. ②There is a mountain path to the waterfall. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes one way from the parking lot to the waterfall. Even if the weather is sunny, there are many places along the way that are muddy. We recommend wearing shoes that you don't mind getting dirty and clothes that are easy to move in. ③There are a lot of insects, so I don't think it's suitable for people who are afraid of insects. It seems like there are bears out there, so it's a good idea to bring something that makes noise. ④There are no vending machines. Also, you'll be walking a lot and will use a lot of physical energy, so it's a good idea to prepare plenty of water. ⑤ Radio waves are out of range. ⑥The road to the parking lot is about 6km of gravel road. Since it is far from the station, I think you will need a car to access it. The road is a little narrow, so you should be careful when driving. As for my impressions after visiting, it was a place I had wanted to visit for a while because I was impressed by the scenery I saw in a travel magazine. I visited in early June, and it was a refreshing place with fresh greenery and the sound of cicadas. It took about 30 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the waterfall on my own, but along the way there was a river flowing beside me, and the sound of the river was pleasant and cool. If you look closely at the river, you can see fish with the naked eye, and you can see various plants, so it was fun to be in touch with nature. As mentioned above, the waterfall had a two-tiered structure. There is a signboard and explanation of Yasu Falls near the first step. There were also benches where you could rest. It was a long and powerful waterfall with a two-tiered structure and was worth seeing. The road is a bit steep, but after about 5 minutes you can see the second waterfall up close. The second waterfall had thin, white thread-like spray, and the water falling was beautiful. I was able to see it up close and feel the water spray from the waterfall. It felt nice and cold. I was moved to see a large and powerful waterfall up close. I would like to visit in autumn as the autumn leaves look beautiful. Also, when the weather is nice, the water splashes and light reflections make it look like a rainbow. I couldn't see it this time, so I'd like to see it next time. It was a little difficult to drive and walk, but it was worth seeing. I could feel the nature.

(Translated by Google) It is ranked 2nd in Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls, and boasts a two-tiered waterfall with a total height of 90 meters. The mountain road leading to Yasu no Taki parking lot was very narrow and in most places only one car could pass. It takes about 45 minutes from the parking lot to reach our destination, the waterfall, and the beech forest stretches out along the way, making it very beautiful. First you will reach the lower waterfall, which has a drop of about 30 meters. If you continue up the mountain from the right side of the lower waterfall, you will reach the upper waterfall, which is 60 meters high. If you walk for another 10 minutes, you can reach the upper waterfall. The upper waterfall is impressive, and a rainbow can be seen on sunny afternoons. The basin of the waterfall was large and I swam there. This waterfall is powerful, very beautiful, and I think it's a very impressive waterfall, so please go and see it. (Translated by Google) It took less than 30 minutes to walk from the parking lot at a good pace. From there, it takes about 5 minutes to climb a steep slope to the basin of the upper waterfall. I was able to get close to the basin of the waterfall, and when I looked up from below, it was so impressive that I was absorbed in it for a while. (Translated by Google) From R308, follow the gravel road (you will die if you fall on the cliff side) for about 5km until you reach the parking lot. It's about 80 minutes round trip from there. It seems like every year the gravel road is closed for several months after the snow melts (which makes sense on that road), so it's definitely worth checking with the town hall before going. It is definitely one of the top three waterfalls in Japan that anyone can go to.

(Translated by Google) I went there twice when I was in Sendai (three to four years ago), and it's a waterfall that anyone can go to. The sidewalks had been maintained three years ago, even though they hadn't been maintained four years ago, and I felt both happy and sad that the area had become a tourist destination. By comparison, it seems that there is more water in autumn (November) than in summer (August), although this may be due to typhoons. (Translated by Google) The layered white threads create a spectacular waterfall. It is quite difficult to travel 5km on a gravel road with no space to pass each other. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the observatory, but it takes 15 minutes while running. Climbing further up will bring you closer to the basin of the upper waterfall. There are few rocky areas, the area is flat, and there are many dirt roads.
