Yasui Kompiragū Shrine

Mentioned on
Shinto shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Yasui Kompiragū Shrine, a centuries-old Shinto shrine located in Kyoto, Japan, is known for its unique tradition where visitors can pass through a hole in a large stone to make a wish. This shrine has a history dating back to the 7th century and is particularly popular with young women. One of its major attractions is the large ema-shaped stone covered in white paper amulets, resembling a mystical resting bird.
For keeping harmful relationships away or breaking up with someone. Visit here and crawl through the stone. Also good for married couples and couples with a good relationship to protect its well being. If you do not believe all this mumbo jumbo, than it is a nice place to take a picture of yourself crawling in a hole in a rock.
amano jaku — Google review
A beautiful shrine dedicated to cutting bad connections and forging new ones! Definitely a shrine to put on the bucketlist, the architecture and beautiful cherry blossoms during spring were such a delight to see! The tradition of crawling through the rock to sever connections though was a little crowded, but I think worth the little wait for the experience!
Maxine Yap — Google review
A beautiful shrine in the middle of Kyoto. To promote good luck, it is suggested to climb through the hole of a rock, but this is fairly small. For most of Europeans this action might pose a challenge. Don't attempt it, difficult to regain freedom, once stuck 😉
Laszlo G?b?l?s — Google review
Saw many people at this shrine on the day and it appears to be a shrine to wish for good relationships. And the people are crawling through a large rock with a small hole underneath it. Wasn’t entirely sure but appreciate the meaningful and interesting shrine they have here
Kevin KW — Google review
Snowing during the morning walk, cut the bad things and wish for the good luck. Kneel down to enter and power stone and exit the power stone. Been here twice in consecutive two mornings.
Democrazy Chen — Google review
With over 1,000 temples and shrines, you bet there’s one for every wishes one can think of. This one is the “Break-up” temple. Japanese comes here to pray for anything to do with breaking up, not just to heal after breaking up from a relationship but it cal also be with bad lucks, misfortune and pray for better days to come. Or some come to pray for, said a love interest of yours, breaking up with their partner/spouse so you stand a chance!
Han San Lim — Google review
It’s a small shrine packed with locals. Totally worth dropping by. There were many locals queuing to perform a prayer (crawling through a hole and paste your wishes on it after)

A must-visit spot for locals in Japan, this shrine is known for its blessings to sever karmic ties and cultivate positive connections.

This is an interesting place It is in the middle of the city, lots of people were there even on a weekday, when they make a wish they go through the hole in the statue and put their wish on a paper It is definitely interesting It is free to enter
Çiğdem Arca — Google review
Unique shrine that focuses on improving relationships. Crawl in and out of the hole to improve your love life.
For Peen — Google review
A sunny, lively, popular place but don't mistake it for a tourist spot. Worshippers look to be pretty serious about the shrine's purpose, and you can take part, too! If you wish, pay attention to what everyone else is doing, give your >100¥ donation, and write a paper amulet for what or who you want to break with in your life. Hang on to it! Then line up, bow, focus on your wish, and go through the sacred rock, keep focussing, bow, and go back through the rock, bow once again to the rock... then glue your amulet to the wishes cloaking the rock. There are signs explaining how to go about things, but watching others is really the best way to learn. Good luck! The goshuin calligraphy done on my visit was also very accomplished.
N Brandon — Google review
A nice temple in the Gion district. They have a really clean bathroom that they let us use. The Goshuin is hand-drawn and they let me record it (I asked their permission first). Picked up a couple of charms too.
Vignesh Selvasundar — Google review
Another fun interactive shrine. You can buy the paper and write your wish upon it and stick it onto the shrine. The shrine invites you to crawl in and out of the circular hole drilled out of the middle, then your wish is granted. Time needed about 20mins max.

Tenant ownership
Gion Kaikan, formerly known as Gion Kaikan, has been entertaining visitors since 1958. The refurbished Yoshimoto Gion Kagetsu offers a variety of entertainment including maiko geisha dances and performances, comedy shows, dances, and theatrical performances. Visitors have raved about the Gion Odori Spectacle, praising the vibrant colors, music, singing, and elegant dances performed by well-dressed geishas.
I visited to watch one of the Gion Odori performances and it was a great experience! My seat had a great view, and the staff were all very friendly.

We went to watch the Gion Odori Sptectacle, and it was something out of this world ! The colors, the music, the singing and the dances, everything was a delight. The geishas are so well dressed and so elegant. This was truly a fantastic show, and I really recommend it for anyone coming to Kyoto during that time of the year
raphael plantier — Google review
What a wonderful old theatre. So much character. Lucky enough to see Gion Odori. It is only performed twice a year. If you are in Japan when it is on, make the effort to go and see, regardless of your interest in dance.
Craig Coffey — Google review
Though I love Japanese pop culture, my absolute favorite experience from my 3.5 week of Honshu was the Gion Odori show in early November (2019). If you have a chance to catch this production, it is a must see. Fascinating! Also, as shown in attached photo, it is well worth to upgrade to the box seats.

The pickles there was very delicious and the staff super friendly even when they cant speak english very well. The toilets where very clean and big.

Road side rest stop fairly larger than most, and larger number of shops, such a large eating hall served by various food shops, a combini, a local produce shop, gift shop and many other shops. Large parking area, large restroom toilet facilities, even an onzen. Check police for additional facility information.

(Translated by Google) We climbed about 1,300 stone steps in the pouring rain. It was actually planned to be cloudy when we climbed the mountain, but it can't be helped since it's a mountain. I parked at the first gate. Is it because it's low season? It was free. We climbed the stone steps for about 40 minutes. After about 800 steps, the stairs became steeper. There was a bench along the way, so I took a break and climbed up. I went with regular shoes, but I slipped on a stone on the way back💦I slipped about 3 times. It's dangerous. When we arrived at the main hall, there was a rest area where we could enjoy the view, and we were able to relax while looking at the view. The chairs were huge and I felt like I could relax quite a bit. If you come from the parkway, you can probably see Toshogu Shrine first. The Okunoin temple was said to take another 40 minutes from the main hall, and since I had somewhere else to go, I stayed there. The scenery was very nice.

(Translated by Google) I went to Hana because the festival has begun. There were places where you could see it for free and places where you could pay a cleaning cooperation fee of only 200 yen, but both were large spaces. The essential flower is just beginning, so it bloomed for a minute, so you can still enjoy it forever! In Japan, the image of white is strong when you say "lotus flower", but the jewel called papalachia sapphire is "orange-pink", isn't it? By the way, the flower I went to today didn't have orangeish pink at the festival (Is it in full bloom !?) I have to go see it again to check it ~ (Original)

(Translated by Google) This is an early morning visit. There were still a lot of people and it was easy to walk around! I learned for the first time that there are many varieties and types of lotuses that are well maintained in the park. Is there something nostalgic about the atmosphere inside the park? I felt the atmosphere of Asia or China!! I would like to ask everyone to pay for the 200 yen sticker placed at the entrance to the park (apparently it will be used for tending and managing the lotus). If the date was a little later, the timing would have been better for the lotus to be in full bloom. (Translated by Google) I visited on a weekday. It may have been because it was early in the morning, but the flowers were blooming beautifully, and it was the best lotus I've ever seen! There were many types of lotuses that I had never seen before, and they were so beautiful that I was excited. As expected, there are 130 types of lotuses in the world. When you enter the park, there is a box where you can deposit ¥200 as a cleaning donation. Don't skimp on it! It's worth it! It was early in the morning and cool, but by 8 o'clock it was already hot and I was feeling dizzy. It's quite large, so if you want to take your time, we recommend going early. There was also a corner where you could try lotus dyeing, elephant nose cup, etc., which I really wanted to try, but unfortunately it seemed like events were mainly held on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, so I wasn't able to try it. But isn't this the only place where you can experience something like this? I thought it was very rare. There were many interesting menu items at the teahouse, such as lotus soft serve ice cream, but I was disappointed as it was early in the morning and the shop wasn't open yet. It may be difficult to visit again because it is not nearby, but it is a park that I definitely want to visit again.
