There is lots of cats and an adorable dog. The temple itself is beautiful and has a big Buddha statue. However it is a bit hard to reach. If you find yourself on the route between Kyoto and Kanazawa, you should take a short break there.

Small temple grounds, but overall a nice atmosphere. I hoped to see more cats though the summer heat probably kept them away. Update 21.04.02: On my second trip there, you can now see a new cute Buddha statue! I was lucky to see a lot more cats, too. Definitely worth the trip!
William T — Google review
Take a normal temple. Drop cats to attract tourists. Sell overpriced products and install donation boxes saying that it's to take care of the cats (looks like they eating like tigers :p). It's alright but I wish a cooler and nicer temple did that, at least. You also need to be lucky to see the cats strolling around the temple, they were hiding under the benches when I went.

The feeling as you go in this temple is incredible. You feel the calmness coming from the harmony the cats have between them and the temple.

Murasakishikibu Park in Echizen is a tribute to the Heian period literary figure, Murasaki Shikibu. The park features a statue and monument dedicated to her, as well as Tsuridono and Izumidono buildings. Adjacent to the park is Fujinami-tei, which houses more materials related to Murasaki Shikibu. The park's design is inspired by Heian period gardens and includes a pond, bridges, and a water stall.

(Translated by Google) This park has its origins in the fact that Murasaki Shikibu, the author of The Tale of Genji, lived here in Echizen before getting married. The park has a pond, a bridge over it, and a water stall, making it a beautiful garden. The Mizuya has a writing desk with an inkstone box, brushes, and paper, so you can take a commemorative photo pretending to be Murasaki Shikibu. There is also a magnificent golden statue of Murasaki Shikibu.

(Translated by Google) The park itself is tranquil and atmospheric, spacious, and has a wonderful sight to see, including the Murasaki Shikibu statue, Murasaki Shikibu poem monument, Tsuriden, and Mt. Hino that can be seen from the park. You can also learn a lot about Murasaki Shikibu at Murasaki Yukari no Yakata, and the videos are beautiful so you can learn while having fun. However, he is generally quiet, and since he is the main character of this year's taiga drama (visited in March 2024), I thought he could use a little more ingenuity. Since there is a Taiga Drama Museum nearby, I wonder if we can do something to attract more tourists on this occasion. Maybe when the weather gets a little warmer, flowers such as cherry blossoms and azaleas will bloom and look gorgeous. (Translated by Google) It is a park called Murasaki Shikibu Park, which has been reconstructed from a garden from the Heian period. Although it doesn't seem to be a former Kokufu site, it is said that Murasaki Shikibu spent about a year and a half outside of Kyoto, and wrote a waka poem that made him feel nostalgic for Kyoto. This year, it seems to be attracting attention for a taiga drama, so if you can stop by nearby, I think it would be a good place to experience the atmosphere. It was a quiet park with few people. There are beautiful parks, bridges, and Shinden-zukuri buildings surrounding the pond. The view of the scenery illuminated by the morning sun reflected in the pond was impressive. The golden purple Shikibu statue is also beautiful. The detailed design is wonderful, but I am deeply moved by how it expresses my feelings towards Kyoto during my childhood. I was able to spend a very pleasant and refreshing time. Echizen Crab Museum

The Echizen Crab Museum is a unique attraction that features a dome-shaped area with exhibits related to snow crab. Visitors can enjoy exploring aquariums and browsing through a seafood market and café. One of the main highlights is an underwater tunnel that provides an immersive experience for visitors. While it may cater more towards children, the museum offers valuable insights into KANI culture in Japan. Overall, it's an excellent place to learn about this beloved crustacean and its significance in Japanese cuisine and culture.
Very interesting also for foreigners, maybe bring a translator so with you. The museum offers a walk through different stages of the sea level, it showes a variety of fish and ofcourse crabs. you can walk underneath a big water rounding and see fish swimming above your head. It is also very good for kids offers a lot of fun games and information.

This was a fun little museum with enough activities to keep my six-year-old daughter entertained for a couple of hours. A little out of the way, but a good place to go if you like to get off the beaten track. And the prices of the crabs in the shop next door were eyewatering.

Echizengani Museum : Echizen Crab Museum 越前ガニミュージアム Echizen Crab Museum is located right across the road from Road Station of Echizen Coast. In this museum you can see a large variety of marine creatures live in this area. Each show room has its own theme built in a property space of 300 square meters. The facility was built in 2016. You are also able to enjoy hands on trial of operating a ship for hunting crabs. Admission fee is 500 yen for adults and 300 yen for children. When you just entered the course there is a ramp way spiraling down the hall with a miniature of traditional townscape of Echizen Coast where fishermen live. The ramp way leads you all the way into the depth of the ocean bed where Echizen crabs live at the bottom. ( TGM Japan Guide : Trans-word+ )

(Translated by Google) It is a park associated with Emperor Keitai, adjacent to Okada Shrine, and is a fairly large park with 33 Buddhist statues in Iwashimizu, Kotobiyama Observation Deck, grandson cherry blossoms, and usuzumi cherry blossoms. The 1,000 cherry trees were in full bloom, and the Hanagatami Cherry Blossom Festival was held on April 6th and 7th. For lunch, I ate cold and chewy grated soba noodles and large-sized grilled noodles with lots of red bean paste. It was delicious. ``Furusato no Ie'', whose roof had been renovated, was popular and fully booked. The general parking lot was full and connected to the road, so I parked in the parking lot above Aoji Temple. It was extremely hot during the day, but by the evening the wind had passed and it felt nice. Since it was an outdoor stage, the sound of firewood and the sound of cicadas combined to create a fantastical world for Noh and Kyogen performances. In between, I ate something called ``amazake smoothie.'' Is it locally produced? I would like to go again next time.
