Penang Hill is a tourist attraction in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which offers panoramic views of the city below. The mountain peak is also home to colonial-era hotels and bungalows, a suspended walkway canopy walk called The Habitat, a mosque and a Hindu temple. Penang Hill is also close to the Kek Lok Si Temple, within 3 km of its vicinity.
I consider Penang hill as the icon of Penang. As a tourist you must visit it otherwise don't come to Penang ^_^. you will be lucky if visit it in normal days (not public holidays or weekend) because you have to wait in long queues for more than hour to get into the train. Up there, the view is charming, pure air, and lots of odd plants you can see. if you like hiking, this is the ideal place to enjoy the amazing nature. otherwise, you can get into a car against 5-10 RM. You can enjoy many activities there such as purchasing love locks and write your name with your lover then lock it on a fence. also there is Owl museum, some shops and restaurants.

It is a view point of this city. The entrance fee is 30 RM roundtrip . The top has a very beautiful view. And there is a great botanical garden. There are trees, flowers that are rare to see. The weather is good, 15 degrees, the height is 800 meters.

It’s so kitschy and so touristy but this is one way to enjoy the overview of Georgetown. Temperatures here are also a delightful treat after the humidity of the lowlands. The funicular train also adds to the excitement of ascending and descending this place. Do hire a buggy at MYR 30 per head to explore the place expediently. Immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature with a few surprises from monkeys and giant squirrels.

Went in at 9am in the morning on Friday, there was a small crowd waiting for the rail already. Managed to get on the second rail, and the ride up took <5minutes. There weren’t many people in the morning, thus, quite enjoyable to sightsee. It got crowded at 12+pm, and we were about to leave… The queue for the rail got crowded.! Good to go in the morning to avoid the crowd!

Super touristy place to visit but worth doing if you're here in Penang. I recommend the pass otherwise you'll be waiting in line a long time to go up OR down. The extra 10 ringgit allows you to skip the line. If you like to walk, at the top I suggest checking out ask the trails. You can of course walk down the mountain. It takes about 2 hours. If you don't like walking so much, you can hire a little car to drive you around or to the coffee shop at the end of a road. It comes with a ride back too. We decided instead to walk back so we could stop and take pictures. Totally worth it. The earlier you come the better the experience will be. Less lines, less tourists, less heat.

⚠️2 hours to wait in a huge queue even in weekdays to go up and down the hill if you didn't buy the fast pass. Buy the fast pass and it's only 10min to wait... MUCH FASTER! Train ride was fun, view was nice, you can walk around a bit. Didn't love it but seems like a thing to do in Penang.
Erica Chang — Google review
Very long queue to purchase the funicular ticket and also wait for the funicular during weekends. The 2 ways ticket is rm12/adult. Nice view at the top with cooling temperature.

It is a beautiful small hill where you can see the whole city view. The jeep service can take you on 700M on top of the hill where you can find Hindu temple and a bunch of other stores.

We left our hotel very early in the morning to catch the bus to Penang Hill. It took us about an hour or so. When we arrived we had the option of taking the train or walking. We chose to walk and enjoy the scenery. Personally I underestimated how long it would take us and how far it was but all in all it was great way to spend the day walking up to the hill and checking out different things along the way. We made plenty of stops along the way and took our time. the views were amazing the further you got up the hill. When we reached the top of the hill we walked around the temple and checked out what was around. A lot of things you had to pay for so we just decided to walk around and see what was up there. If you plan to walk up I would defiantly recommend going for when it opens as it's cooler and less humid. Once the sun comes out it gets scorching hot. Once we were finished walking around the top of the hill we decided to walk back down but the other side where there was a garden with lots of birds and many monkeys. The walk down was 7km and all down hill. Our legs were like Jell-O but it was a nice walk.

One of the popular tourist attraction is Penang. Located near Georgetown. Easy to find and public parking available here for a fee. I visited recentlly on a weekend. It was very crowded and waiting time for Furnicular train/Tram was almost more than an hour. Tickets can be bought at the counter for 1 or 2 way to/from the Penang hill. There is a food court up there and also a buggy service for visitors to tour the hill area for a fee. There are attractions such as Tge Habitat, Old and historical buildings, a Coffee shop and a Museum etc. Best thing to witbess is beatifull views of Georgetown and other nearby Islands. Management should take a note that there was no physical distancing in the Furnicular train.
Shanoor CD — Google review
We bought the fast lane tickets for trains. But since the school holidays, many queued. The view was amazing, the food up there was delicious and there are many beautiful views from the top of the hill. But overall, we enjoyed our trip here. Worth every penny. Will definitely be back again.
Haura Liew — Google review
Unfortunately the viewing deck was under construction when I visited. There are some nice spots where you still can enjoy a good view from the hill. If you visit this place during a workday or Sunday there most probably won’t be any queues. If the weather is clear, during sunset the views should be very nice. Also, you can find some very pretty monkeys there. If you are in Penang definitely recommend.

Amazing and unique experience for my entire family. Spent a wonderful time at top most, natural, scenic and historic place of Penang.
Shamim Khan — Google review
We came here on a Monday late morning around 10 am. It was not crowded and brisk getting the standard ticket, and up we go to the top of Penang Hill. There were quite a lot of tourist attractions at the top of the hill. We choose to do the Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk. It cost around MYR 60 Per Adult. It was a great walk for city folk with nice scenery. Alternatively, a family of five can hop on bungee ride for MYR 30. We suggest to avoid weekend and local public holidays as we heard it is usually crowded.
Lawrence Wee — Google review
Good site to seeing the landscape of Penang from the hill. Ticket entrance is 30RM for non-Malaysian citizenship (adult). Prepare for the long queue on the weekend.
Andika Sagar — Google review
The train ride was pretty fun. But some great photo spots were closed at that time. Could have been a better experience if it was open...

went up the hill by funicular, ticket price is RM12 with normal lane u also can walk around on the top of the hill, quite big change compared with 10 years ago

Enjoyed the view from Penang Hill. We took a car truck up the hill to avoid the weekend rush. It costed us 160 RM to and fro. We had a chill walk at the hill and enjoyed the view and walk. Lot of options to eat and click pictures.

Beautiful. Cable car rate was around 20-25RM, we paid additional entry fee to enter the habitat (opens at 9am). We went early morning so really enjoyed the view and ambience.

A boring place honestly, in the top messy place and nothing to do , there is no activities no something enjoyable! Just messy place, I wish the management to improve it by making some activities and by managing the place and clean it !! To be honest the only amazing things is the tram 🙂, even it was fully of people so you cannot see anything. 😅

Penang has a very good hiking trail. From bottom of the hill to top you need to use about 2-3 hours. You can use the mid station if you feel tired on the halfway. You can buy the return ticket before you start hiking preferably before 830am to get the half price discount. There is also nice food and red bean ice to enjoy on the hill.
Teng Boon Lim — Google review
Ride the train is fun and 2 way ride cost Rm12 per person, elderly Rm6. The air up there is cold and comfort. Can ride buggy (max5person) for RM30 if you don’t feel to walk too far.

Excellent place to visit when in Penang, Malaysia. The funicular train takes us from the bottom of the hill to the top of the hill. It is a very good experience, almost like a roller coaster. The views from the top of the hill are amazing and the best time to go to this place would be at the time of sunset perhaps. Plan this one carefully. The tickets, the time of the day, etc.
Akilan Sundaram — Google review
was really crowded....recommend to buy the Fast Lane ticket esp over the weekend as I suspect it gets really, really crowded then...... we had a great time observing the flora and fauna...... the view of the city from up there....we also loved the cooler air up there .....

Went on a Monday at 8.30 am. It was also during Ramadan. Queue was short at that time. Waited 15 minutes. We got the standard ticket online, didn't pay for the express. Some food and drink stalls at the top station were open as shown in the photo. Drinks about 8 Ringgit each. We asked at the information booth just outside the top station about the places to go and directions cos we couldn't make it out from the map provided. They were helpful. It was reasonably cool in the shade and there was quite a bit of shade along the main 2km path but quite hot in the sun. When we got to the Monkey Cup, we were too tired and hot to walk back uphill. Fortunately, we could take one of the buggys back up for 15 Ringgit. We didn't go into the Habitat.
Francis Khoo — Google review
A great place to overlook the city. Only the queue is crazy. I highly suggest you to just purchase the express ticket. Unfortunately you still have to purchase the entrance ticket for some spots.
Dkn — Google review
Beautiful view and nature once you are up the hill, but here all good things end. I don’t mind the crowds during holidays if it’s the only time to see something, but some outright bad things are: 1) Waiting- you have to buy a ticket and are told to wait for almost 2 hours to go up the funicular. In reality you spend 2,5+ hours in a queue and waiting. 2) Tickets are sold by “batches” with numbers. Once it’s your batch time, you proceed to the boarding queue. Waiting patiently in line only to be mixed in the end with all other people so that people with batch numbers bought after you end up in front of you instead. For example, our number was 45 but there were 46 and 47 people in front of us. 3) No huts/shelters from the rain. It rains sometimes, hard, and you simply have nowplace to wait it out. 4) Return queue: when you come totally soaked to go down, you are told to wait another 2 hours or buy express lane tickets 3 times more expensive than usual ones. And in the end, both express and usual waiting people just mix and gash in into the crowded cabins. All in all, worst mountain funicular organization out of all countries I ever encountered. Langkawi Sky Bridge is a good comparison- same country, much better queqe handling.

Great day out. The vehicular train was a good price and very fun. Amazing views from the top and a good way to spend a few hours. You will queue for a little while for the train up but it's better than walking up 😂

Penang Hill is a great escape from the busy streets of Georgetown. The funicular railway ride to the top is a fun experience in itself, offering stunning views as you climb. Once at the summit, you're rewarded with fresh air, rainforests trails, and a breathtaking panorama of Penang Island. Whether you seek relaxation or light adventure, Penang Hill offers something for everyone. Just beware of potentially long queues, especially during peak hours.
Renand Arteja — Google review
This is a great place to enjoy the cool breeze and beautiful views. I am really enjoyed it. I am followed the tour guide. The tour guide explained the place really well. I am understand everything. When I am entered, the queue was full with people. It was really crowded. I felt very unfair to them because they had to wait. I am waiting for the funicular train to arrive. After a while, the train came. According to the website, the train can transport 800 passengers per hour. The train came up really fast. I could feel the cool breeze hitting me as I stepped out of the train. I am taking some photos. I went to Astaka Bukit Bendera. Taking pictures is my favourite. I went for a ride, up and down, and it was quite chilling. One lesson I learned is don't try to offend, when they take you to the end (I guess the end over there because I saw a coffee shop) they ask you do you want to have coffee here? Say yes if you have time, say no if you don't because they will leave you there. I am having a great time here. Really had a great time. The view is superb. I will come here again alone in the future.
GaMeR. BD — Google review
The funicular ride was interesting but make sure you stand closer to a window, so that you won't miss the view! You can get a nice view of the whole city and the sea from the top of the mountain. We also went on a buggy ride. Traveling on holidays will be a bit uncomfortable if you are not the type of person to wait in queues for around 1 - 2 hours.

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Kek Lok Si Temple, located on the White Crane Mountain in Penang, Malaysia, is the largest Chinese Buddhist temple in the country. Built in 1889, it showcases a blend of architectural styles from China, Thailand, and Myanmar. The temple complex is divided into lower, middle, and hilltop sections featuring intricate decor and numerous Buddha images. Visitors can explore various religious and cultural structures as well as beautifully landscaped gardens.
One of the largest and yet well maintained Buddhist temples in Malaysia. The temple complex has several prayer halls alongside gardens, and of course the famous statue of Guanyin. While the temple has excellent facilities to ferry visitors from one site to another, it is recommended to walk around and explore instead. The temple has a rich history that must be experienced first hand.

Great and really beautiful temple. All entrance is free. You only need to pay for parking and if you want to use the cable cars. But everything is also walkable and there is a bus station close. The view to the city is also worth the little hike. The big statue is really big and tall. Which makes it hard to see it fully close as the platform is to small in ratio to the height of the statue. To see all plan around 2 hours. Down besides the first car park is a turtle pond.
Stef — Google review
Beautiful temple worth visiting and looking around. There are multiple levels and you can hike up I think or your can pay at each stage for a round trip ticket. You pay at each station. You can't buy everything in advance. I suggest going to the top as fast as possible then working your way down. There's a lot to see and a lot of extra stuff to do for blessings and merit driven offerings. Just go. It's beautiful.
Scott Wilson — Google review
Beautiful temple. Worth visiting. Free of charge, except for the pagoda where you have to pay RM2 (worth it). You don't need to take the cable car except for when you want to go to the statue. Otherwise you're fine of just walking :).
Lilly Schutz — Google review
Recommend to visit on morning or evening, if you're coming when night, it's going to be a very different situation. First of all, parking. The parking will be very super difficult to be found , if you are unlucky you might find no parking, it's almost impossible to park there without giving those Indian money.( Cost around rm3-10) Second, prepare water if you want to visit to the guanyin temple, you might to walk for a 15 minute to reach there, if you reach there when night, you need to pay extra in order to visit inside , but there's also a cable car service there, you can try it if you wish to. However, apparently Malaysia are known for its heartwarming scorching Weather, so please choose a perfect time to visit if you don't wish to have a sunburnt. Recommend 6-7pm

Amazing temple with lovely architecture and beautiful views! Make sure you take the time to visit the pagoda! It's 2RM pp and well worth it. They also had stunning decorations up for Chinese New Year.
Carmen Ubermanowicz — Google review
Info: If you want to reach the statue, take the elevator up and down. Otherwise, you have to follow a steep road with no pedestrian path, walking out and around the whole temple area. 6 RM (03/24) is a fair price for the short cable car ride. Otherwise, I recommend going to the pagoda with its 7 levels. Beautiful view and nice garden around. Admission is 2 RM. The whole temple is really worth seeing and was a big highlight of our 2 weeks in Malaysia.

One of the most recognized Chinese temple in Malaysia. Its a good picnic spot for families. The deities are huge and amazing. Parking is bit of a challenge on the peak days. Many days lower ground parking is closed for public. If anyone wants, they can visit air hitam dam which is 2 kms ahead of the temple.
tarun kumar — Google review
Kek Lok Si is a nice and impressive temple that is definitely worth a visit. The temple consists of several layers and is very easy to reach with small elevators (paid). There are men who drive back and forth with electric vans. In the high season I wonder if it is worth visiting the temple, we were there outside the main season and it was already a long wait for the elevators. Once at the top you have a beautiful view of the city and there are ponds with dozens (perhaps hundreds) of turtles to see.
Marco Hol — Google review
The architecture of the top pagoda is just brilliant. If you don't not wish to take stairs, the cable car rides are available 16ringgit per adults. There are some maintenance maybe required maybe due to 2 years of covid. Still a must go place if you visit penang.

Lovely Temple. Very clean and beautiful inside. This is a must if you visit Malyaia. You will need a few hours to visit each Temple and strong legs for the walk.
terry panayiotou — Google review
The most beautiful and colorful Buddhist temple I have ever seen in Malaysia. It is located on a hill so the views from there are spectacular. It is huge inside with so many golden statues that will leave you breathless. There's a giant Buddha on top of the hill that you need to take a funicular for, it's not necessary in my own opinion, since the temple has already much to offer. Must visit if you are in Penang, you can combine it in one trip with the hill
Loay — Google review
Beautiful temple on top of a hill. We had our own car so only a few minutes ride from the main town. Not many people were there since it was a weekday but the view from the top was spectacular. Am sure it's much better in the night.
Jambay D — Google review
Unusual temple for me anyway. Built on a hill with a huge standing buddha. A must see. Nice view of part of the City too. 204 bus from George Town. Seems to run regularly. Lots of places buy drinks and nibbles. Also, a fanicular train can take you up to the temple.
Claire Tyrrell — Google review
The view outside the temple hill was stunning. However, our visit was abruptly cut short when one of the unpleasant employees told us to leave unless we paid for the visit in the temple. He could have explained it respectfully, and we would have likely continued with the visit. After experiencing such attitude we departed quickly without exploring further.

Easier access and with plenty of photo opportunities! Energetic visitors can climb stairways to top of the pagoda for beautiful views of the temple complex and also Georgetown. Good selection of shops for local delicacies and also tourist souvenirs.
Michael Bourne — Google review
The place is located over a hilltop with a beautiful view. The statue of Buddha is really huge a magnificent sight. The temple nearby, also is peaceful. There are lifts that carry you to the top for RM16 ( both ways),else walking can also be considered. The surroundings are all beautifully maintained and the fish and tortoise ponds , fountain are really nice. Better to come when the sun is low ,else the heat can be unbearable. The view of the Penang city can be seen from above

Largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. This is when CNY 2022 lights installation. Car parking is available with charge around RM 3. No entrance fee. If you couldn’t climb, you can use lift to go up(charges applicable which I didn’t use) . To the shops at upstairs, you need to pay RM2 per person for entry fee.

A beautiful Buddhist temple complex with a great view of Penang. It’s worth a visit. Free of charge, however you have to pay to get to the top if you want to get there with an elevator. Still affordable, though. It wasn’t crowded when we were there. Perfect time to visit.

Beautiful place.. if you taking a grab. The pickup place is all the down . You will need to take a buggy cart rm2.00 to the second level and then cable cart rm3.00 to the bottom. There are various charges to get into different sections of the temple. Overall it's great experience. Highly recommended

This temple is breathtaking and historical. Situated on the hills of Penang. The intricate architecture, adorned with vibrant colors and intricate details. The temple area features a series of prayer halls, pagodas, and landscaped gardens. Visitors may take the inclined lift or stairs to reach the temple. The atmosphere is serene and spiritual, with the sound of bells and the scent of incense permeating the air. The Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas is mesmerizing, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. As you explore the temple's various levels, you'll find a harmonious blend of Buddhist influences from different cultures. The towering statue of the Goddess of Mercy (Kuan Yin) is particularly impressive. It's not only a place of worship but also a cultural attraction. The Kek Lok Si Temple is a must-visit destination that promises an unforgettable experience.

Large structure of temples on the mountains. Great views from the top. Beautiful pagodas, Buddha halls. The entrance to the tram service is not very clean, and it is confusing if the service is available. They should have clear signs. One you go up to station 2, to go up further, have to pay at each step, super annoying.

Kek Lok Si Temple is one of the largest and finest temple complexes in Southeast Asia with spectacular images of Buddha and hundreds of beautiful carvings, sculptures and murals, both inside and outside of the temple halls, pagodas and archways. Definitely a distinctive heritage treasure!

The largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. Built 1890-1930. Take a picture of the seven-story 30m (98ft) high pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas. It combines a Chinese octagonal base, Thai middle tier and a Burmese crown. Don't forget to take a funicular ride to the magnificent Guanyin broze statue (36.57m/230ft.) Ringgit and cash only. We did manager to pay in $ after much of deliberation. A must see.
Vadim Solodukhin — Google review
A must see (though not in the hot sun...)! Be careful when driving all the way up as it is easy to miss the turn left into the temple at the highest tier. A $3 parking fee is needed before you can proceed further in. The photos don't do justice to the majesty of the statues. If you would like to, different types of prayers can be offered at the main prayer hall . No comments about other parts of the temple at the middle or lower tier as we just wanted to visit the guanying statue.

My first visit to this temple in day and night on the same day. It is so astonishing looking at the lights that lit up the whole temple. It is such a beauty in the night. I am a visitor and was told that the temple was lit up during this Lunar new year 2024. I am so lucky to catch the view of this beauty. My holiday here is fruitful so far. Would recommend people to pay a visit during the day though you may not have the opportunity to see the night lights.

The Kek Lok Si Temple was definitely a highlight of my trip to Penang! It's massive and full of incredible details - colorful statues, intricate carvings, and beautiful pagodas. It's a great place to wander around, take photos, and learn a bit about Buddhism. We saw people praying and offering incense, which added to the cultural experience. There's even a pagoda with ten thousand Buddhas - it's quite a sight! Beware though, some of the stairs can be steep, so wear comfortable shoes. Overall, a must-visit for any tourist in Penang!

Beautiful temple complex and views noting that I found the views of the island/city from the top of the main funicular ride to the Habitat to be better. I am going to focus in funicular as I found the experience confusing. You can buy a one way or return ticket at the base of the temple for the funicular. In 2024 one way was 8RM. Keep your ticket hand as you have to show it twice on the way up. The ticket covers a short funicular ride (so wait was less than 5 minutes) which takes you to a buggy that drive you up the hill a ways to a large gift shop. Walk through this to the left to get on another funicular which takes you the rest of the way to the temple. All of this is included on the one ticket. Also- you need to push the buttons in both funiculars yourself to go up/to the next level.
Katherine Sleeth — Google review
The place is huge and amazing! Could have more signs to help finding all the spots (I went straight to the top by lift and almost lost the main temple! So take your time. My advice is: to go up first taking the lifts and then go down walking to explore all the rest of the temple. You need to pay 2RM to see the main pagoda but it is worth it. Outside, next to the entrance, there is a lake full of turtles).

Majestic temple with many statues and deep history. Bronze GuanYin statue was spectacular too. Spend almost 2 hours exploring the compund, including climbing up the pagoda(some levels are under renovation/repairs). View at the top was magnificent. Remember to prepare your sunblock and water, it can be very hot during the day.

The temple complex included several temples on the hillside. You can reach the top temple using an elevator or by climbing the stairs. It may be a bit tiring, but it's definitely worth it because the view is breathtaking. It was one of the most stunning places I visited in Malaysia. The entrance to the temple complex is free, but there is a small fee of 2 RM to enter the final temple, which is a 7-floor building.
Faezeh Rafieyan — Google review
Beautiful Buddhist temple. A must visit place in Penang. The vibrant colours and beautiful buddha sculpture with serene environment. You can also buy souvenirs on shops at different levels. Also you will get stunning views of the Penang from different levels of the temple. We were lucky to vist the temple during kek lok si temple. You can either opt to trek the stairs to reach different stages of the temple or else choose the elevated train and buggy service for going up the temple.

The most beautiful place in jord town and probably in the whole of Penang. Definitely a must visit for anyone who is in the area. Entrance is free, parking is charged. And don't forget to go up the road (or take the cable car) and see the giant statue of the goddess.

Kek Lok Si's Pagoda (Ban Pho Tar) is a stunning architectural wonder that captivates visitors with its intricate details and vibrant colors. The pagoda, also known as the Pagoda of 1000 Buddha, offers a sense of spiritual tranquility as you explore its serene surroundings. From the top, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Penang's beauty. Climbing up the spiral stairs provides an opportunity to marvel at both the temple and the city below.
Penang biggest buddhist temple with over 100 years of history and also the largest temple in Malaysia. It is located on a hill near Air Itam town, Penang and offers a good northeast to southeast view of Penang island from atop. The temple closes at 5pm. Like many other buddhist temples in Malaysia, it has very elaborated, vibrant, colourful, murals, woodcrafts and paintings. The special part of this temple different from other temples are that over here these elements come from diverse architectural styles mainly, Chinese, Burmese and Thai. The temple used to be smaller with only a few buildings but over the years has expanded and built a few more around it. It is currently still constructing one more new building at the mid of it. There are many buildings in the temple so plenty of photo takings and things to see and you may also get lost at times. There's also a lovely garden located lower mid of the temple with colourful flowers and Hulu (葫芦) grown. However, you will need to pay around RM4 as a maintenance fee at a counter leading to the way there as it access the area where it also leads to a 5 stories old Burmese Pagoda with more than 100 years old. Have to be careful when going up the stairs as they are quite small and narrow width. At each stories of the pagoda hosues an old buddha statue in different postures The small fees goes to the paint ongoing maintenance work of the old pagoda. On top of the temple is a gigantic GuanYin bodhisattva statue, also the biggest in Malaysia. There's two option to reach to the top of the temple for the guanyin statue either by an inclined elevator (RM6 for two ways) or simply by walking (but may be tiring). The elevator ticket is sold at the temple. It is recommended to allocate at least 3 hours to thoroughly tour around the temple on a causal pace. This is also one of the main attractions of Penang and you could expect many foreign visitors there. Definitely will be a crowded place during buddhist festivals.
Ooiks — Google review
For access to this part of the temple, you have to pay a toll of RM2. We entered this area thinking the inclined lift is within this zone (we can’t read signs apparently), so do note that it IS NOT. The immediate area outside the pagoda is decorated extensively by flowers, and features a great hall where we witnessed a gathering of monks during a procession. There is a tourist area outside the pagoda where you can ring a large bell. Pictures can be taken with a view at the ground level, or within the pagoda, if you’re willing to traverse the seven levels within the pagoda. Do note that the pagoda isn’t as well lit as the main Kek Lok Si temple. The Pagoda itself is another iconic landmark within this complex, and also intricately carved.

Kek Lok Si's Pagoda (Ban Pho Tar) is a majestic marvel, soaring high with intricate details and vibrant colors. Stepping into its serene surroundings, one can't help but feel a sense of spiritual tranquility. The panoramic views from the top are simply breathtaking, offering a glimpse into Penang's beauty. Whether you're seeking solace or marveling at architectural wonders, this pagoda is a must-visit destination. A serene sanctuary amidst the hustle and bustle of Penang, offering a truly enriching experience for all.

Good views at the top of the pagoda but it involves walking up 7 floors to the top but still worth it Good views of the Georgetown and parts of the Penang area Not many people visited on the Saturday I went The pagoda and the surrounding areas are good for taking photos

We came here to look at the nightlights at the temple. Apparently it only lights up twice a year. We're fortunate to see it near CNY. The lights are beautiful. However the temple itself is not open at night when we were there.

Air Itam Dam Viewpoint, situated between Penang Hill and Paya Terubong, is the inaugural dam constructed on Penang Island. Erected from 1958 to 1962, it stands as a significant engineering feat by the George Town City Council post-independence. Serving as a crucial water source for the island, it has become a favored location for picnics and jogging among locals due to its stunning views of George Town that are comparable to those from Penang Hill.

The Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a heritage house that was converted into a museum in the early 1900s. It is full of antiques and artifacts from wealthy Chinese-born merchant Kapitan Chung Keng Kwee. The mansion has an eclectic East-meets-West charm and it is easy to spend hours exploring its rooms.
It is such a beautiful place jam packed with so much history. The mansion is so huge, you would definitely need to take your time to explore. Bonus: there is a souvenir shop tucked in the back of the mansion. The staff was very friendly and gave us a free short tour of the mansion before we began exploring. The antiques and furniture were well maintained. There are many helpful info boards all around, you just have to keep your eyes out for it. The restoration of the building was done fantastically, making the mansion come to life

I highly recommend it to those traveling to Georgetown. You should never miss this attraction. Entrance fee is affordable at RM20 per adult and totally worth the price. We visited at 10am during a public holiday and just in time for a mandarin tour at 10.30am which is very informative. The mansion is so large that it is hardly noticeable from the outside, and I might have missed some areas without a guided tour. In addition, there are many antiques that are meticulously displayed. I really appreciate the effort of the current owner to preserve this historical and cultural heritage, and presented to the public.

The Peranakan Mansion was full of history and you can feel it once you step into the place. We went for a guided English tour where the guide told us about the rich story behind this place. You can easily immerse yourself here for hours, the mansion is huge. You need to take off your shoes for the 2nd floor so I would recommend wearing socks.

Visited the mansion in the afternoon. We reached the mansion pretty late so it was near closing time. However, we made it for the last tour of the day (English version). The tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable about the history and architecture of the mansion. He showed us and explained to us interesting facts and trivia about various designs and purposes. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

Beautiful and well-preserved old architecture and furniture. I didn't join the guided tour which happens at certain time slots. I brought my grandparents here and they love it. So many rooms and things to marvel at. Lots of places to rest and sit. Photo spots at every corner. The gift shop in the museum is lovely as well. We visited right when the museum opened at 10am and did not need to queue to enter.

Beautiful space - breath-taking and a real joy to visit. The RM20 entry fee is well worth it - it's beautifully maintained and a delight to wander in. I particularly enjoyed the central courtyard and the different tiles throughout the premises, as well as the ancestral hall and the paintings. The pictures don't do it justice - I highly highly recommend you come visit.

Highly recommend a visit to this mansion and join a group with a guide in the museum that is included in the entrance ticket available in Mandarin and English. So rich in history and also gives a good visual representation of what it was like in Penang in the past. The links with China and also England, and also trade with European nations are seen in the objects and design of the mansion. Good to go a little earlier in the day as after the guided tour, there’s time to go around to take more photos and have a closer look at the extensive collections of antiques that tell their stories.

Really interesting place and the man who gave us the guided tour was great. It was pretty busy with large groups of Chinese and people having photo shoots. WARNING- you cannot pay by card if you are paying for one person admission!

Beautiful mansion with a lot of interesting artifacts and a hearty guide (we had an elderly gentleman) who really has pride and insight into the rich memory of the place. Also guests are allowed to touch almost everything and sit on all antique chairs and sofas, which brings a live spirit to the music rather than a stale atmosphere of dust of usual museums. Great dive into history of local populace and their adventures!

The owner did a good job at refurbishing and preserving a piece of important history ! The collection was amazing. I’m really glad that I visited this place, as I finally got to see how it looks inside of a heritage building. I’m still in awe of how rich the Peranakan culture is (and also how loaded someone could be). Throughout the guided tour, it’s apparent that some riches are just unattainable 😂 Out of reach for peasants like us… Mr. Stanley was an amazing guide to us - an amazing storyteller. The storytelling was so vivid that you’ll feel as if you’ve travelled time. I’m pretty sure he’d repeated it so many times but his enthusiasm was palpable - through the clap of his hands. Loved it. Highly recommend.

The tour guide in English was so nice and funny! Sometimes, the accent was difficult to follow as he was wearing a face cover/mask. The house is huge and lots to explore in one hour. Definitely recommend doing the free tour. Otherwise, it's hard to appreciate! What I liked most is the fact that you can sit and touch almost everything, unlike other museums. You can also go in and out as you wish all day. I highly recommend visiting. Bonus points as King Charles and Queen Consort Camila visited a few years ago, and they also do movie scenes there like Crazy Rich Asians!

One of the things I enjoyed the most in Georgetown. The entry ticket is only 5 dollars, but it's a great value because there's a one hour guided tour in English every 30 mins. Our tour guide was a very funny Chinese gentleman who took his time to explain to us the history of the mansion in an interesting way and show us every single room. The mansion has many collectibles and rare artifacts from over 200 years ago, some of them are considered priceless. I totally recommend to add visiting this mansion to your itinerary and get the chance to immerse into it's treasures

I think it's fairly an old hotel from the way it looks inside. Neat and tidy though. All amenities are available and the standard room is a good sized one. It's centrally located and near a shopping mall. There is also a moderate sized swimming pool and gym. Good for a family stay. There are many small departmental stores nearby so it's convenient if u need any quick eats or drinks. Lots of street foods just a few minutes walk away. The front desk staff are very courteous and there is also a large spacious cafe in the lobby area. Would love to come back again.

English guide tour started at 130pm on a Monday when I visited, but I think honestly that you could show up anytime and there will be a tour you can catch with just a bit of a wait. There is an upstairs section where no shoes are allowed which isn’t covered by the tour, so that could be a good way to fill time. Bring cash to pay for your ticket (25 ringgit) if you’re in a small group. I did see card payment accepted but for a tour group of 17 people. If the blue mansion is the immaculately adorned Nyonya without a single hair out of place, this is the fun sister with a reputation for the best gossip. Walking through this place felt like visiting family. If you need to sit for a break, I recommend the jewelry section as it’s one of the few air conditioned spots.

The mansion has least view from outside. But within ,it has some exquisite collections of the royal family holdings. The place is well maintained and beautifully arranged. There is an entrance fee of RM 50, but there is lots to see and you can spend around 1 hr seeing the displays. At 1.30pm,there is a guide tour also .The staffs are helpful and there are lots of photogenic items. Inhouse stores are also there for buying souvenirs

It's a really historical mansion, with many interesting things to know about! However the ventilation situation really isn't the best... Yes there are standing fans to help blow air, but in most of the mansion, it's really hot and not a lot of fresh air flowing in. Also you need to take off your shoes if you want to explore up to the 2nd level as well (but the things are really interesting!) there's also a tour where your tour guide will tell you more information about the mansion.

Pinang Peranakan Mansion: A Glimpse into the Past, But Not Without Quirks The Pinang Peranakan Mansion offers a fascinating glimpse into the rich heritage of Penang's Peranakan culture. The 45-minute guided tour, led by an excellent, comedic guide (kudos to them!), was informative and engaging, bringing the history of the mansion and its inhabitants to life. However, the experience is a bit uneven. The mansion itself boasts some truly stunning rooms, showcasing exquisite Peranakan furniture, intricate tilework, and beautiful textiles. These sections truly transport you back in time. On the other hand, some rooms felt a bit average, with displays that weren't quite as captivating. Another curious feature is the rather large on-site restaurant. While it might be convenient for grabbing a bite after the tour, its presence felt a bit out of place nestled within the historic mansion. The gift shop also left me scratching my head. While Peranakan souvenirs are expected, the inclusion of generic items like Marvel character keychains felt jarringly out of place. Customer Service is not their greatest strength. Even when buying tickets. They’re reluctant to accept card payments. Was told originally ‘Cash Only’ and has to be more than 100 Ringgit, which doesn’t make any sense. Eventually a card reader is shown and card payments are accepted, when I’d just paid 50 Ringgit. The person selling tickets also has a negative attitude and was very unprofessional. There’s also the slight issue of the sticker to wear to show you’ve paid for your ticket. I told them I’ll place the sticker, where I want it to be, not to be dictated. You have time slots for either an English or Chinese tour guide. Overall, the Pinang Peranakan Mansion is worth a visit, especially if you're interested in Penang's cultural heritage. Just be prepared for a mixed bag – breathtaking rooms and historical insights alongside some slightly odd additions. Getting there is easy. You can hail a Grab taxi or, if you're feeling adventurous and the Penang heat isn't too oppressive, it's definitely walkable.

Very informative FREE guided tour (Thanks to the very knowledgeable tour guide - Stanley) We lean so much about the Peranakan culture. Well preserved and maintain mansion. It’s worth visiting if you’re in George Town. At the time of visiting, entrance fee is RM 25.

Very beautiful! They have english/chinese tours every 30 minutes (though the chinese tours are only every hour or so, I believe). If you're bilingual, I recommend the Chinese tour because it's more in-depth, at least based on what I overheard. Though the English guide is also very friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable.

An opulent, well-maintained and magnificent looking Peranakan house, both exterior and interior, with history and heritage. Many interesting items on display. There are guided tours conducted in English or Mandarin during certain time slots. When I went there, there were many visitors but not much of a queue. Staff are welcoming and friendly.

This is one of the must visit places when in Penang. It's a historical house that a rich Chinese businessman had built in the late 1800s early 1900s. The businessman was so rich that he also built a Chinese Temple next door, as well as a separate museum, with a dining room and kitchen buildings at the rear. A lovely mansion that is well furnished with beautiful furnishings, and easily takes you back to yesteryear. The Temple, museum and the kitchen are also worth visiting and are all included in the one entry price of 25RM as at Oct 2023. I visited during the off-peak season and it was somewhat busy, but in peak season it could possibly be crowded. The buildings are air-conditioned and this makes for an excellent atmosphere and encourages taking the time to view all that is on display. Allow between 1-3 hours to see everything depending on how much time you wish to spend taking in the great experience and looking at all the wonderful features, details and displays. The history of how he made his fortune, including tin mining, is also interesting and worth reading about. Excellent attraction. Enjoy.

Located in the Kampung Melayu area of Air Hitam, Penang's capital city, Nasi Kandar Kampung Melayu is a great option for spicy and healthy Indian-style rice and curry. The meats are marinated and delicious, the curries silky smooth, and the prices very affordable.
Tasty. Feel like eating healthy food since its a healthy version of nasi kandaq. Tastewise its superb & full of flavor. Recommended to tourist who wants to taste the real nasi kandaq!

The food is so delicious and good prices. The place is strategic but it is difficult to get parking lot. There is not much improvement to be done here unless the restaurant could be moved to a better, wider and more comfortable place for the customers to enjoy dining here, but it is difficult to do it. In front of the restaurant we can buy traditional Malay kueh and tidbits which are reasonably good prices and there are a few men selling freshly harvested local fruits which offer cheaper prices from the supermarket or other stalls.

Roadside parking is difficult. Need to park further up, near residential homes. Food is better than most Nasi Kandar outlets in Penang but a bit pricey. Fish Head Curry was well done

It's been a while since I eat here. The food is okay, chicken is nice, gravy is well, as usual. Today, I have to Q for more than an hour to find out that they also attend to orders from grabfood. I mean, it was a very long Q, they can temporarily switch off the grabfood orders and cater to walk-in customers. For this, 3 star (or lesser) to the service.

Not the best i would say. If you are looking for a nasi kandar that doesn’t really taste its spices and etc, i would recommend this one. Overall it is just fine, parking is a bit tight and not that many spaces available. The rest are okay, 4/5 I would say.

Air Itam Market Duck Rice is a popular night market stall selling duck rice. The stall only opens at night and operates from 8:30pm till 2am, but has now changed to 3pm to 8:30pm due to the pandemic. by the time I got there at 8pm, they were out of duck! However, I was able to get the rice with mui choy (preserved veggies) pork and egg rice... Which was pretty good also!
One of the best braised duck meat 🍖 in town. It's located opposite the air itam market. You won't be able to miss it as this food market is at the junction of the road. Long queue (depends on what time), the service is quite fast. You just have to say how many people are eating... which dish you would like. It's RM11 per person for the duck meat with rice. I added the preserved vegetables (mui Choi): RM5. Really worth trying..

Environment was not very comfortable to eat, but overall it was a decent experience. Might go again for take aways. Btw, price as per Apr 2023 has now increased to RM7.50 per plate. We got a platter for 2 person and added eggs, total about RM24.

Taste good, sweet, and a bit watery with white rice. The celery make it better... The duck isn't roasted, without skin. I'd like to try other menu. I think they don't use msg, It's a good thing, a slight salty taste of soy sauce.

One of the best duck rice stall in Penang! They used to only open late in night, but since MCO they start the business earlier. Always recommend to head down early as the queue can get long. The mix platter consists of duck meat, duck intestine, pork belly & braised egg. This combination of meats is to die for! Aroma is pungent, and all is braised and season to perfection! Every bite is just a bliss! And don’t forget the Boey Cai, with that a complete meal is set.

RM16 = 3 cups of small milo milk + ‘special treatment’ Seriously will not recommend this place for a number of reasons: 1. Bad attitude towards customers: My grandmother was ordering 2 cups of milo milk but the owner of the stall could not really hear as the background music was so loud. It is a common sense that you will ask your customer second time if you could not hear what they say. However, he did not do so, just said ‘no’ and walked away immediately, continuing smoking afterwards. 2. Unable to admit mistakes done by staff: I thought the owner might be having a bad day or he just wanted a break; therefore, I ordered from the foreign worker in Malay language, mentioning 2 small cups of milo milk (dining in) and 1 small cup of milo milk (take away). He nodded his head so I would assume he understood. Later on, we were served with 2 cups of plain milk. I then told the foreign worker that this order was wrong. The worker then took 2 cups back to the stall and informed the owner. I could see that the owner was frowning and could not hear what he was mumbling because of the loud background music. The worker then served us the same thing and asked me to pay. Obviously, I will not pay since they did not get my order correctly and he forgot about the takeaway order too. The worker conveyed the message to the owner. It was obvious that he was sour-faced and unwillingly adding milo powders to the 2 cups of plain milk (did not change the cup or milk). [Honestly, I really could not understand why it would be a hassle for him since he just had to add milo powders to the milk in order to rectify the order]. Neither the worker nor the owner took the initiatives to walk over to our table and clarify the situation. 3. Felt discriminated: Since there was confusion over my order, I walked to the stall to clarify my order and also informed the owner about the forgotten takeaway order. While I was ordering in Hokkien (usual dialect used in Penang and the owner understood this language), he appeared irritated and trying to amend the language I used in English (the exact words he used - takeaway is it??) along with the “side-eye” look. From this incident, I did not receive any simple apology or even a smile from the owner/worker, instead I was getting ‘the best treatment’ from the owner. Some readers may think that this was a minor matter; it was absolutely disappointing when this kind of incident happened in the place where I think highly of, Penang.

I give 4 stars rate for the nasi lemak in pack. RM3.50 contains few ikan bilis, quarter of hard boil egg, one small bite of chicken breast, sambal and coconut rice.

Better check the price when ordering. Ordered a plain susu for RM 3.5 which price stated in the menu but charged me RM 5 with bad attitude ans rude words!! Close the table when i plan to having there, keep on asked me what you want in a rude way... Throw the milk to me and after showed him the TNG prove still showed a rude face with big eyes. Bad service, milk oversweet. Never ever :) Nt even worth for a star

Located in Paya Terubong, one of the oldest shopping districts in Penang, this stall is famed for its delicious nasi lemak. It is open as early as 4am and serves up a wide variety of side dishes to choose from. The rice is cooked perfectly and the sambal is spicy and delicious. The only downside is that it's located on the ground floor next to a trishaw stand, which isn't exactly clean.
One of the best nasi lemak (chinese style) in my rating. RM4.50 per serving with sardines fish and prawn. Curry was delicious, sambal was fantastic and the rice was cooked to perfection. The only cons was the trishaw stall was besides main road and not really that hygiene.

Just had it the first time! Thought the stall would be closed due to the rain but nope they were there! Dabao one for RM4.30 - added more rice - x1 fried chicken - cucumbers - eggs - anchovies with spicy sambal (skipped the prawns and fish cause too lazy for the shells and bones). Finished in 10 minutes! Delicious! At 5am, this nasi lemak has much better value for money than nearby McDonald’s and KFC breakfasts. One thing to be clear though: It’s actually WHITE rice with nasi lemak ingredients, not the typical coconut milk rice we’ve elsewhere. Overall, lovin’ it!

Pork free nasi lemak , taste great with alots of choice. Open early in morning around 5.30am. Recommended to try the regular one with fried fish, bilis + egg. The prawn 🦐 and fried chicken 🍗 not bad also. Those who can't eat HOT 🥵, can try nasi lemak also but tell them u want soy sauce one. (no hot)

I am long a buyer at the stall for years. Unfortunately the food is getting less yummy, smaller portion. Less coconut milk used to cook rice, fewer anchovies mixed with only two spoons of sambal sauce, smaller egg portion, but the price is higher since 2019.Taste no longer the same as few years back. Look as if the trader want to save every penny to make maximum profits as possible. They (the stall owners, their son and two elder staffs) wouldn't entertain you if you ask any. Sour-faced,you can see them clearly when you come to buy one.

Disappointed. "NasiLemak" without anchovy, nuts and the basic santan, just plan rice with chilli paste. Price wise is ok. RM7 for plain rice + small chicken + XS size Fish slice + XS Prawn. Will never visit again.

The male seller is arrogant and rude. Taste is very average , a far cry from last time. Quality have dropped certainly
