Sights & Landmarks
Geto Onsen Kanko Hotel is a riverfront inn that offers plain quarters and a shared kitchen and dining area. The hot spring water flowing from the source is very pleasant, resembling a secret hot spring in the forest. Though it contains only a small amount of radium, the indoor baths are good with lukewarm and hot options. There is an open-air bath available for an extra charge.

The open-air bath is an extra charge, so I only entered the indoor bath for 600 yen. There were lukewarm and hot baths, both of which were good. There is also a simple rest area in the corridor so you can relax. Mahiro (Murasaki Shikibu), played by Yuriko Yoshitaka, is said to be a lower-class aristocrat who was close to the common people. I don't know what kind of life these common people lived as they cannot read or write and there are almost no records, but I came to the park after hearing that their houses had been restored here at the Folk Village. When I arrived, I told the person at the reception desk, ``I came here because I heard that there were private houses from the Heian period here! ” I said excitedly, ``There are no buildings from the Heian period here, right? ” “Ah, it’s for you, Shine~ It’s about a 20 minute drive from here! ” He told me about Fujiwara no Sato, but I wanted to see the houses of ordinary people at the time, not the gorgeous buildings of Heiankyo. On the way home, I said, ``There it is! A private house from the Heian period. This is a facility that collects private houses, right? 'I said, 'I'll explain it to you next time.' There is no television or internet like there is now, and people have no doubts about the status or environment they were born into, and it will never change for the rest of their lives. The Heian period was a society of extreme exploitation by a very small number of senior aristocrats. It's nice to synchronize your thoughts with the romance of the Tale of Genji in Esashi Fujiwara no Sato, but when you look at the houses of ordinary people at the time and the houses that were used from the Edo period to the early Showa period, you realize how blessed we are today. It's a very good facility where you can do a lot of things. It's nice that it's free, but there's no public transportation, so you have to drive or take a taxi to get there. It's such a waste since it's such a nice facility. Outdoor Activities
Geto Kogen Resort is a popular skiing destination that boasts of excellent quality and quantity of snow, as well as glade trails for snowboarding. The resort also features an onsen spa and indoor play area for kids. For those unfamiliar with the terrain, it's recommended to use Geto's guide service to explore the deep powder snow. Accommodation options include communal dorm rooms with buffet dinner and breakfast or private rooms with basic amenities at around 10,000 yen per person.
Powder on powder. Do you like powder snow? AWESOME tree runs that you can level up on with increasing difficulty. The gondolas are kind of busy, but you'll need the time to relax to prepare you to go on your runs.
Austin Chien — Google review
Geto Ski resort in Iwate was nice. The snow at the resort is special, in that it is a denser, wetter, powder that can take a little bit of practice to get used to as a beginner. The medics on site are also were wonderful. And the staff who assisted me, apart from the lift ticket counter, we’re lovely and patient. But the visitors at the resort were some of the worst I’ve encountered in Tohoku. Some were smoking outside in the ski parking area right as you exit the main lodge when there was a smoking section inside. One, in particular, put me on crutches due to mean spirited behaviour on a beginner slope. But I digress. The resort is huge and often very busy during peak season. The gondola wait line can take a good chunk of time just to get to the gondolas and then the additional time it takes to reach the summit. If you are only going for a few hours, it’s something you should definitely factor in. The food that we ordered was the worst katsu I’ve ever eaten in my life. It cost around ¥1200. It was rubbery, overcooked (or nuked in the microwave), and plain inedible. I know the chef was skilled because it takes true talent to mess up katsu that bad. The other sides and the rice were delicious though. The slopes themselves were nice. The A1 course, although marked for beginners, beware that they are not smoothly groomed. It was a nice course once I got the hang of it, with two main steeper inclines and flattened points in between. They had a nice snowboarding park area towards the bottom that could easily be used for practicing and mastering jumps and tricks. Even though the resort was crowded, the slope had waves of people with lulls inbetween that made it a nice experience overall for learning in new snow conditions. For more advanced skiers and boarders, there are a plethora of options. Take note of the trail board, as it will alert you to changing conditions, such as avalanche warnings.

It's now no.1 ski/snowboarding resort in my list! I stayed for 5 days in the resort itself and it was a charm. The weather was too windy at the beginning but when it cleared up, the view from the common lodge was spectacular! 🤩 The resort also has big open air bath (rotenburo) and sauna. The food didnt repeat when I was there and am grateful that it's not too much as I dont want to put in weight. The slopes are amazing! There are steep parts on the beginner runs but otherwise really good! The resort cafeteria and main building also feels modern and new. For the price of staying at the base of the lifts / gondola, having delicious breakfast and dinner (and access to other options), having an open-air bath and sauna, I think this place is really worth going! I can't wait to go back!!!

No question about the amount or the quality of the snow. Snowboarding in the trees is sublime however I would recommend using Geto's guide service if you're not familiar with the terrain. 3000 yen will get you guided into some of the deepest powder snow you're ever likely to encounter. You can stay in the hotel where you can stay in a communal dorm room inclusive of buffet dinner and breakfast or if in a small group you can rent a private room with very basic accommodation for about 10,000 yen pp. The onsen in the hotel is very nice too.

it open til may. a long term seasons, it have enough snow. price is fair. rental service is good. but in spring, the beginner slope is too short

I went to geto kogen in late december and it was very snowy and ridiculously windy. Aside from that it's a big ski resort with a lot of shops and restaurants in the building at the bottom it's almost like an airport. Outside there are lots of slopes for basically all levels of skiing. There is a cable car which takes you to the top from which there are a couple easy routes and some harder routes. There is also a more simple lift which doesn't take you far up the mountain (I think the other lifts were closed).

This mountain is awesome, lots of areas to cut through trees, and tons of powder. On this visit it was almost 4.5 meters (about 14 ft.) Facilities are really good too, there's a huge inside play area for kids with a large trampoline

Great resort, a lot of variety in the runs and amenities offered, a large parking lot and great powder.

Great little resort. For northern Tohoku, this resort consistently receives the most powder every year. The resort also has a great onsen and skiers bed for overnight stays.

I drove up for an early morning sesh on a powder day hoping to try out some rad runs. Parked the car, looked up at the slopes, watched the locals carve, got scared, drove home. 5 stars because the parking attendees were efficient

By far one of the best slopes in Japan! Powder, great vibes, so much terrain and friendly staff at the mountain. I can’t wait to return next season! 😝❤️

Good for one day. Unless it's had an outstanding overnight snowfall which is like anywhere. Pretty small place. Unfortunately for me there was not much snow down. That isn't geto's fault
Jason Pinto — Google review
Nice ski resort. Not really in season so most lifts were closed. But great slopes. The food court was very nice too.

Great resort! Got lucky with a bunch of fresh snow. So much fun!

Skiing was good. Alta was closed, however, due to icy conditions. That's all folks.

(Translated by Google) It's amazing! It's said to be one of the three major cherry blossom viewing spots in Michinoku, along with Hirosaki Park in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, and Kakunodate in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture, so there were a lot of people there. However, it is not as crowded as Kudan, Ueno Park, or Inokashira Park in Tokyo, and you can enjoy walking with your dog, and you can use the parking lot without waiting (there is a temporary parking lot in the main parking lot). (It's a bit of a walk from the location, but it's not a problem) As of April 13, 2024, the cherry blossoms are in bloom for about 7 to 8 minutes and are very beautiful. The road is wide along the river, making it a versatile place to take a walk. You can enjoy street performances and many food trucks. It seems that there were many customers from overseas as well. it's recommended.

Beautiful day for a boat ride on the Kitakami River. The Cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

Although the peak season has passed there are still many trees of the white variety. Less visitors also give much more freedom to take beautiful images of the cherry blossoms.

(Translated by Google) It was a Saturday weekend, and the roads around Sango Bridge were closed from 8 a.m., so we arrived at the parking lot before 8 a.m., and the third parking lot was about half full. Many people were strolling around from quite early on. Unfortunately, it was early in the morning, so I wasn't able to see the covered wagon that you can see in the photo in the guidebook. It seemed that the wagon horses had not arrived even after 9 o'clock. It was estimated that it would take about an hour to walk around. It was spacious and many people were walking their dogs, so it seemed to be a popular place for local residents. The first parking lot in front of the rest house is narrow, so the third parking lot is recommended.

(Translated by Google) If it's a warm, sunny day, it's definitely a place where you can pack a bento and have a picnic with your family. I don't know if I can bring my lunch and eat it... The souvenir shop also has some unusual items, like the boxing trunks worn by a former world boxing champion? It was nice to see something like that.

(Translated by Google) It's been two months since I moved to Kitakami, but this was my first time visiting the exhibition area. I had heard the word ``exhibition site'' several times, but I confused it with the word ``scenic spot'' and thought it was some kind of tourist attraction. When I asked about it several times, I learned that the exhibition site was a famous cherry blossom viewing spot and a park. When I looked it up on my smartphone, I found that it was relatively close to the back of Kitakami Station, so I decided to give it a try. I went on a Sunday morning. There were several people walking their dogs. There was a rest house, and when I parked my car and walked there, for some reason there was an SL locomotive on display. As I continued toward the river, I saw some people running on the sidewalk under the cherry blossom trees. Of course, the cherry blossoms weren't in bloom at this time of year, but I felt a lot of negative ions in the long row of cherry blossom trees and the large park. The environment is very nice. Apparently, you can also go river rafting during the cherry blossom season. The Kitakami River flows through this city. It had rained the day before, so there was a lot of water. It's scary to have such a big river with so much water. This may be my first sightseeing experience since coming to Kitakami. I mean, there aren't any tourist attractions up north.

(Translated by Google) The Cherry Blossom Festival is being held from April 9th, 2023, so I went there on April 12th. We expected to arrive around 11am and were prepared for traffic, but perhaps because of the rain that day, we were able to park easily in the parking lot in front of the rest house. Although the cherry blossoms were a little past their peak blooming season and a snowstorm was falling, they were still very beautiful and worth seeing. There were many food trucks and food stalls in the parking lot, and there were lots of delicious-looking items. The temperature on this day was 10 degrees, which was very cold, so I think it would be better to prepare a jacket.
