Snowboarding in the trees is sublime however I would recommend using Geto's guide service if you're not familiar with the terrain. 3000 yen will get you guided into some of the deepest powder snow you're ever likely to encounter. You can stay in the hotel where you can stay in a communal dorm room inclusive of buffet dinner and breakfast or if in a small group you can rent a private room with very basic accommodation for about 10,000 yen pp. The onsen in the hotel is very nice too.

I went to geto kogen in late december and it was very snowy and ridiculously windy. Aside from that it's a big ski resort with a lot of shops and restaurants in the building at the bottom it's almost like an airport. Outside there are lots of slopes for basically all levels of skiing. There is a cable car which takes you to the top from which there are a couple easy routes and some harder routes. There is also a more simple lift which doesn't take you far up the mountain (I think the other lifts were closed).

This mountain is awesome, lots of areas to cut through trees, and tons of powder. On this visit it was almost 4.5 meters (about 14 ft.) Facilities are really good too, there's a huge inside play area for kids with a large trampoline
