This temple some beautiful buildings, with stunning roofing beams, set in a tranquil maple-tree setting — when not overrun by tourists. Will look stunning in autumn! In spring there is a patch of cherry trees on the hill outside the temple that flower relatively late, and draw huge picnic crowds.

Find it quite cheeky that they charge for parking and then charge you again for entrance. They also upped the pensioner age to 70 instead of 65 like other places. But after going into the gardens, one is met with a beautiful pond with trees all round. The gardens are beautiful! The temples are well kept and walking around the area is relaxing with lovely scenery all around.

Beautiful view, especially when the maple tree turns to red/orange.. You can find ponds, bridge, museum, and beautiful lampions in so many colours.. A quiet place to meditate or enjoying nature.. No admissions fee or Free entrance! Don't forget to buy some souvenir inside the temple.. 👍🏻

An UNESCO site...this Buddhist temple was built in 8th century..really amazing architecture...the temples are built on top of stone terraces. This temple complex is huge and certainly worth a visit to marvel the history, the religion & the architecture.

This place is gorgeous. There was a lot going on and lots to see. The initial entrance was amazing as it lead right into the pound and bridge area. After that was the museum to right and the temple grounds up ahead. There were active prayers being performed in the temples. Lots of people were taking pictures and joining in the worship.

Came here today with friends. This Buddhist temple is a must-see in Gyeongju. Best place to meditate or forest bathe, or simply enjoy nature and its serenity. There are many spots to sit down and relax, or take photos of the colorful lanterns, and luscious greenery.

The Bulguksa Temple is a masterpiece of the golden age of Buddhist art in the Silla kingdom. It originally dates to the sixth century and has undergone many cycles of neglect and restoration, most recently restored in the 1970s. The colorful lanterns hanging everywhere make this such a delightful place to visit.

My first stop in gyeongju. Everyone recommended it so I woke up early and went to the temple and was the first one to enter. Everything was picturesque with the waters, fall leaves and peace. I was able to stroll in solace. The views from the temple are simple awesome. Definitely a must!

A gorgeous temple with several different places to pray or meditate, fair warning: no photos may be taken inside. We got to see women wrapping up fruit in piles to be placed on the altars as offerings which was very cool, although the taping sound was kind of funny inside an otherwise peaceful temple. There is a fair amount of walking and stairs so comfortable shoes are a good idea, and there is a beautiful lake that would be an excellent picnic spot, or just a nice place to rest.

This was such a wonderful, historic and peaceful place. The history imbedded in the 1000 year old architecture, is must see - even if you're not Buddhist. If you happen to come across a tour then I highly recommend joining in. I had the wonderful opportunity to come in the afternoon and stay till night time. I got to have a tour of the Temple, see the Buddhist performance in the evening, and the evening prayer too. Also the lady who led the tour for the temple, (sorry I forgot your name, but will include a photo of you) had amazing knowledge and is such a kind soul. Beautiful night time views. I’d recommend going about a half hour before sunset. There is some interesting history, some artifacts (don’t think they are the originals) and a model of what the original grounds may have looked like. The park isn’t too big and there are many great photos to take.

Best time to go is at sunset just before the lights come on. There are benches for sitting to enjoy the views & reflect; the crowd comes/goes as with any attraction but definitely worth a visit. Stay as long as you like within the site although I'm not sure of their in/out policy. There are toilets inside the grounds as well as gift/souvenir shop. Recommend 👍👍

It used to be a palace but they just rebuilt what looks like 3 pavillions and man-made lake as attractions. Make it a point to visit this place during the evening especially during sunset and watch the place glow with lights at night which makes nice pictures taking.

Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond in Gyeongju Province is a man-made pond in Gyeongju National Park, South Korea. Entrance is very cheap at 2,000won or Php95 in our money. It is a little hot in Mid-April especially during lunch so be sure to apply some sunblock to your skin but there wind can be so harsh at times.

Canadian traveller here. What a beautiful walk around this park. It’s peaceful and well kept. It was a total of 9,000 KW. They do not accept foreign credit cards so best to have cash with you. I would spend a total of 1.5 hrs here to take in the view and take some beautiful photos.

A place for a beautiful stroll around the lake at sunset to get the best of both views, before and after the lighting is on. It is nice to see families and couples waiting for the lights to turn on for a picture perfect scene

Beautiful palace and the pond is gorgeous. It's a place that is worth to see at night if possible because all the lights reflect in the water. There are three pavilions and you can walk around the pond and take pictures from all angles. It costs only 3000 won to enter and it is really worth visiting if you are in Gyeongju.

Entry fee is 3000 Won, I believe it is worth it. Perfect place to enjoy a walk, be sure to walk on the main path otherwise you might slip in the sand !! There is a wonderful pond which reflects the surrounding buildings. By night the buildings are lightened, and the atmosphere becomes sublime. The last entrance is at 21:30! Be sure to get there on time!!

No worth to pay 2 euro to enjoy this pond. We wasted 10euro just to walk 5 minuite. Maybe we had to come here to enjoy picnic with food.

A magical place to visit at dusk just as the sunsets and the lights turn on at the Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond. It is the perfect time for photos. The walk around the pond is very calming and tranquil. There are many opportunities to capture pictures of the sights during the leisurely stroll. The reflections of the structures and trees off the pond and the moon make for a picturesque scene. Bench seating is available around the pond to rest and take in the beauty of the surroundings. We were able to buy tickets easily upon arrival on a Monday evening ~6:45pm. There are washrooms on site and a gift shop.

Beautiful place, especially at night when the lake takes mysterious view. Most of the tourist buses come right at that time. The visit altogether takes no more than an hour if you walk slowly

Romantic place to take a date. Saw a lot of couples. It was very cold when we went to be sure to dress appropriately if you’re going. Also if you walk around the pond then you’ll see where they took the picture for the brochure.

The route to this place has lovely views on a windy road suitable for motorcycles to enjoy the bends. A short walk along a path to the granite statue. It was a pity after Covid that people are not allowed in to the cave where the statues are. And no photos are allowed to be taken either. So feels like a waste to go all the way there and not able to take photos of a beautifully carved statue and cave.

We took a taxi and a long walk in the rain to see Seokguram Grotto, a national treasure. We were not allowed to take photos inside the statue area, and there was a glass wall that prevented us from entering, but we could still see the statues and some of the walls. Unfortunately, we were unable to view the roof above the Seokguram Grotto statues.

The ancient temple are so fascinating into Korea's rich history. The site is beautifully maintained, and you can really feel the sense of reverence and respect to the history.. the park was really enjoyable to walk around. But the temple not to large..

Be prepared to walk to this temple. It is located on top of the hill still a good length away from the main parking lot. Once you get to the temple there are more stairs you have to take in order to get there. While there may be a lot of walking the views make up for it.

It a pity that you are not allow to take photo or video of the Buddha. It a long walk in and I will recommend you to skip this if you are in the rush of time. If not, take a slow scroll in to witness this awesome Buddha in the cave.

I enjoyed the short walk to the temple, but I wish there was more to see there. Although Seokguram was a bit of disappointent due to lack of things to see, I highly recommend walking to Bulguksa from Seokguram. A 2.2km walk offers such beautiful scenery walk through Moutain Toam. And huge plus - it's a downhill walk!

A must see. You can't take pictures inside but there are many places all around the temple to take photos.

Cannot see and feel much as it needs a 360° view and cannot take a photo or video - too much effort to driving up and walking to the Grotto. Not worth to trip up unless you like hiking.

It was free admission to the grotto when I visited in June 2023. Bus fare (#12) is 1700KRW each way from Bulguksa temple. Bus schedule attached. While interesting to see, despite the glass partition, IMO it is not worth a 6000KRW admission fee + 3400KRW bus fare round trip. So I'm pleased it was free admission! I'd skip it if short on time.

From Bulguksa, I took a bus ride up to Seokgurum which is also a UNESCO site. Take note of the bus frequency and the last bus timing. I have posted a photo here. You need to take time to walk all the way to the temple. Once you're there, you will find a beautiful sculpted Buddha Statue sitting just right inside a small little cave. Just be careful when walking as there is not a lot of barrier constructed on the edge of the hill, if you're too close, you might fall off the hill.

Beautiful, historic Buddhist site a little ways outside Gyeongju city. You can get here by public transit, but the buses are a bit sporadic and not particularly reliable, which is extremely surprising considering how good Korea's mass transit system is generally and how popular this site is. Plan ahead or splurge for a KakaoTaxi if you really want to be sure. The site itself is relatively small, and although it sits on the side of a mountain, it is relatively easy walk to get there from the parking area. It shouldn't be at all difficult for most people. When I went the traditional hike from Bulguksa was closed due to damage on the trail, which took away another option of getting to this temple. That's a shame, because I heard it's a really nice hike when the trail is operational, and it is much easier to find buses to Bulguksa than it is to find buses to Seokguram. Either way, this place is worth going out of your way to see. Definitely recommended.

A cave temple with huge sculpture of Buddha and enriched Buddhist art work. The natural beauty is mesmerizing and worth of a 600 m long walk towards the hill top even after a spiral route from Bulguksa temple. One can reach via car or taxi and there is no entry fee. This UNISCO heritage comes as a continuum of Bulguksa visit, a perfect short trio during holidays. ❤️❤️❤️

It was not good than i thought. There is one in the mirror and fence. It takes 1 minute that looking it. Fee is free. Big parking lot and you can take by the bus.

A sacred place with a peaceful walkway to reach it in a sceneric path. Local buses run hourly. To come back to Bulguksa Temple the bus returns hourly from 9:00am till 5:00pm and last one is 5:40pm

From Bulguksa Temple take bus no 12 and then you can reach to this place. This UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site. I visited on 23 March 2024. This place is having Buddhas statue in center and which is surrounded by various figures. Seokguram Grotto follows the Indian tradition of carving images of the Buddha on stones, natural caves, steep mountainsides and stupas. There is glass barrier beyond which you cannot enter. Photography is prohibited..

Not possible to make photos or videos inside. It is very compact. In a glance, you see everything, but it is wonderful. Nice the temple close to it as well and the small walk to reach it from the parking lot

Beautiful flower gardens stretch across a massive park. There’s also a forest on one side and a couple of tomb mounds. The “observatory” tower is interesting, but a bit smaller than I expected and this is really the only thing to see in the gardens. Nice place for a walk!

It’s a stand alone structure with a lot of history behind it. It’s a nice place . The gardens around this structure were so beautiful. We were here in spring time so the flower beds around here were blooming and it was a beautiful sight.

This place is surrounded by beautiful gardens. And also a lot of Korean history about Silla Dynasty. There is a little train car that takes you around the place or bikes you can rent to go around!

Moderately interesting as a handsome stone tower and reputedly the oldest star observatory in Asia, although how it functioned as such is not clear. Little shade and music via loudspeakers do not help.

This ancient astronomical observatory is seriously something out of this world. The structure itself is so unique and impressive, and you can really feel the historical significance as you stand there. The attention to detail is incredible, and it's amazing to think about how this observatory was used to study the stars and the universe. Plus, the surrounding area is so peaceful and serene, making it the perfect spot to just sit back and take in the beauty.

I'd like to share my exprience of visting Cheomseongdae place. It is located in Gyeongju, a city where many cultural heritages are gathered. It is located in a park in Gyeongju, a city where many cultural heritages are gathered. I paid 500 won to see Cheomseongdae, but I don't pay now. Because people who didn't pay could see from afar. In the past, I used to go to school for school field trips and use the bus, but now I go by car. The historical fact of the place is that it was made during Queen Seondeok and was made to observe stars. There is a hypothesis that it is not a place to observe stars, but compared to observatories in other countries, the hypothesis that it is an observatory is the most accurate. The most impressive part is that you can see cultural heritage while taking a light walk and The night view is more beautiful when seen in the evening. I recommend you to visit Cheomseongdae!

Some say it was the first observatory built in the Korean Peninsula, and it was only accessible using a ladder. Nowadays it is not accessible, yet it offers an amazing views thanks to the purple light that brightens it after sunset. It is a scenic area, perfect to take some photos. Also there are several tombs of Korean kings, due to the historical importance of the area it is necessary to behave respectfully. Some zones are nowadays being used explored and archeologica excavations are ongoing. Entrance in the park is free so no not hesitate !!

Cheomseongdae itself is not super impressive, but the city does their best to make the park as pretty as possible, so the place is definitely worth the visit!

Amazing observatory remained still over 1400years. Circular surface of its bottle body is breaking my imagination how they cut the granity stone at that time? With what?

Came here after lunch in the area. It's lovely to visit the compound and even if it was not possible to come closer to the observatory, the scenic view the area itself offers is enough to appreciate this historic monument. It must be more scenic when viewed at night.

Cheomseongdae Observatory. This is a very famous astronomical observatory in the region. It was used to study the stars and thus check the best date for planting and growing food. Records indicate that the observatory was built in the period between 632-647 A.D. The entire region is a large garden where several species of flowers characteristic of the region are found. Koreans take over the place during weekends and holidays. Traffic is complicated in the region as access cannot accommodate so many people! It's a beautiful place and you need to see it with your own eyes! I recommend that you come during the days of the week that are less popular so you can enjoy the tour better!

What a nice museum! It involves several buildings that follow the traditional style, each containing its own exhibition. There are lots of interesting artifacts, which is why it can take maybe 3 hours to visit it completely. And it's also free!

This museum was amazing. The entire museum ground doubled as a historical site with a shrine. There are many buildings that showcase different parts of Shilla history. Plan to spend at least 2 hours here because there's so much to see. And the best part, cross the street and you're on another historical site. History is literally everywhere.

This is one of the most beautiful and informative History books I have seen so far. This is a must see place in Gyeongju and also in South Korea. Not only the beautiful masterpiece of Silla crown but also the whole Silla legacy that's in display is a really a big page of Eastern Asian History. It could take one or two hours to complete the tour given that you study every exhibit. Don't forget the Art Gallery. Entry is free. But take a look inside the gift shop too..!!

Hello all tourists. This museum is the best place. You can see various treasures of Shilla Kingdom, also it is free entrance. I guess it takes 5 hours to look around, you will absolutely enjoy. Never miss this place.

Wonderful museum that displays the treasures from the Silla Dynasty and explains how the artifacts were discovered and excavated (and still being excavated). We learned about the ancient history of this land through these objects from as far back as 1500 years ago. Absolutely loved it. We also got to see the special Cheonma exhibit.

This is a museum that displays relics from Gyeongju, the capital of Silla (one of the ancient Korean historical countries). If you, a foreigner, have clicked come on this REVIEW thinking that you would go to this museum, it is worth a visit. Although it is difficult to say that our ancient Korean relics are the best in the world, I think it is definitely worth seeing. (Aren't you already in Gyeongju?) Korean students also travel when they were students. Because it is a representative tourist destination related to Korean history.

Great place! Lot's of exhibits. Can easily spend 3-4h here. Beautiful surroundings too. The museum consists of several separate buildings. I didn't get to see them all but based on what I saw, definitely would be nice. Also the closing times varies from day to day. I believe they close as late as 9pm on Wednesdays.

Really good museum covering the history of ancient Gyeongju and the Silla kingdom. Well laid out rooms with lots of interesting artifacts, and the grounds are huge with lots of places to sit and think (or eat a picnic lunch). Well worth visiting, especially considering it’s free entry!

Amazing place to see the traditional evolution of Korea. The museum has some of the best display technology. You need a whole day to see the complete museum. It gets very cold in the evening during the month of Oct. The staff are very helpful. No good restaurants close to this place. You need to go to the village near by.

Very cool spot. Lots to look at. You can spend a good 2 hours looking at all of the exhibits. Parking can be tight during peak hours.

It's really good, it's free and you can have a free English tour guide the museum talks about the archaeological remains of the tombs of the Kings and important people. With the help of the guide you can understand all the history of sylla.

When I visited this museum, enterance fee was free. I and my daughters could learn abt Shila history a lot. I could remind what I have learnt when I was student. There were lots of ancient antiques which are well preserved. It was very good for you to visit and learn abt history at this museum. And the location of this museum is very close with other visiting points in hwangridan-gil. You can save time if you make a plan to visit somewhere which are close each other in the area.

Many famous relics in the museum, sculptures and the big bell, Emile-jong. Great to visit with your family. and there is a museum for kids, they can experience like colorings. The staffs (mostly senior people) are very nice and kind.

Its a bunch of ancient tombs in a historic town. There are plenty of the mounds to walk around. One is even open as a museum showing what was excavated from it.

The tomb itself has a small selection of artifacts and info about the tomb but I suggest visiting the museum or doing some research on the tomb before visiting. I visited the museum when I first got to Gyeongju and before I visited the tomb complex and suggest that you do the same… and it provided a lot more context about these tombs and the history of Gyeongju in general. The site costs a couple of thousand won to enter and as far as I know, cheonmachong is the only tomb/ mound you can go inside. It’s a really impressive archaeology site! Hwangnidan-Gil is close to this site and has hundreds of nice hanok bars and restaurants to visit. There is an entrance to the park plus toilets are next to cheonmachong.

Very impressive place of historical significance in the Dorengung palace complex. This is the only Royal tomb that has been excavated fully and people can enter and take a tour inside. There replicas created of the various objects found inside the tomb along with the significance of each. The Touch screens can be accessed to get pre stored information in the form of videos. Very impressive.

This tomb is just a small part of a pretty big park, but it is also the only tomb you can go inside. Very interesting history and lots of replicas of artifacts that they found in the tomb. I took my time and only spent about 30 minutes inside (and that was after reading all I could about the tomb construction). Definitely worth the price and there are lots of tombs in this area.

Good place to visit. On top of learning about the past it's a good place to visit on a nice sunny weather. Cheap place to go on a date. For under $3 to get in, you can't go wrong.

It's a good place for a family trip. Kinda not that accessible for commuting since there is only 2 buses that really goes inside the village, if you want to drop off into a highway you need to walk for more than a kilometer. But transferring to a bus is possible. You can either take a bus from Pohang Bus Terminal or Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal (farther). As for the village, it is like a historical museum and village that offers tours, they have 20 minutes 30 minutes and an hour tour inside the village. There's also a convenience/cofee/souvenir store inside which is good.

Yongdong Village allows you to appreciate the historic villages. Take your time to slowly walk around with a site map. A day tour guide will help you understand more about houses built in different century.

First time here today. Its traditional Korean folk(or upper class) village registered in Unesco World Heritage but not much impressed. I am staying one of the house(민박) for over night for ₩60,000. House has not much to give. Also went to Odong restaurant for dinner. How was it? No more than 3 stars for place to visit/over night/restaurant. Only Tour guide(no charge) was very nice. The most tradicional village I've been in whole Korea! Such peaceful, remote place full of history! Wonderful to just pass a relaxed afternoon listening to the birds singing while walking around the village

Not sure what the purpose of this village is. Was completely underwhelmed. Nothing is going on at this place. It was practically a ghost town on a Saturday. No activities. No entry into any of the houses. No traditional crafts or food. Just a muggy, hilly walk that costs $4 per person.

Beautiful, very quiet and peaceful place. The houses are not only perfectly preserved but actually lived in, which adds to the charm. It does mean though that you can't enter inside any of them, which is a bit of a pity (would be great if at least one was open to the public). I went on a weekday midday and there were only a handful of other tourists, so it's also a great spot if you want to take a break from the crowds.

Despite the rain, I found joy in immersing myself in the charming traditional village of Yangdong. The village is filled with ancient buildings and meandering pathways that span the entire region. The slow pace of life here allows you to leisurely stroll along the winding paths and truly experience the unique blend of modern living in old-fashioned homes.

This place is so incredibly beautiful. You can walk around here for a couple of hours. I recommend being with a tour guide so you know the stories behind the buildings.

This village is korean traditional one with old types of house. So you can see and experience the old korean tradition. You can stay night if you reserve. I was so satisfied staying inthe village as i can remind my memories of younger period. A little bit far from downtown. So you need to go abt 30~40 minutes to go to the village from downtown. Pls consider it before you go there.

It is a very traditional village that requires a lot of walking. Lot of nice view of old style architecture and many trees along the way but the weather is so hot when I visited. Got a few cats in the village too. You can also see some vegetables growing in the farmland. Along the way you can visit the Mucheomdang House, Daeseongheon House and the Songcheam Head House.

It's an amazing place to visit. I do recommend a little bit of research into the history before going so you can immerse yourself. I had the benefit of going with a tour group. A lot of detail came from the guide and this knowledge made everything way more interesting. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

Without a doubt, it has been one of the most impressive visits in Gyeongju. The peace, the calm give this spectacular site an overwhelming atmosphere.

One of the must-visit sites when in Gyeongju. There are lots of tomb mounds in this area and you can go inside 천마종 which has artifacts and a recreation of the tomb. There is not that much info or exhibitions at the site, so I would suggest researching or going to the museum beforehand and it will give you more background to the site. I went to the museum first and then got a bus to the site later which worked well.

We got to go inside one of the tombs to see how they were built! They even had a few more languages as translations there than other places. Translations we’re not free of grammatical errors but you understood them just fine !

I love to take a walk here in Daereungwon, in the morning.(Opens at 9am btw!) It's peaceful, calm and picturesque. You can see the huge royal mausoleums, take a walk surrounded by wonderful pines while listening to the birds singing. It could be a bit too hot in summer, it's better to visit in spring or autumn. +entry fee is 3000 won for an adult!

You must visit this historical place!! Within Daereungwon Tomb Complex is Cheonmachong Tomb (Ancient Tomb No. 155), which was excavated in 1973. Cheonmachong Tomb consists of a wooden coffin placed inside an underground chamber mounded with boulders and earth, characterized as a typical upper class tomb of the Silla period. The mound has a height of 12.7 m with a diameter of 50 m, and consists of a layer of rocks collected from streams. Below the rock layer is a wooden chamber that is 6.5 m long and 2.1 m wide, reaching 2.1 m in height, with the wooden coffin at its center. A total of 11,526 artifacts were discovered within the tomb, including Cheonmado, an artwork considered highly valuable as it is Korea's first artwork to be excavated from an ancient tomb.

This is an historic site where the rests of a royal family prevail. It is a big park so take your time and enjoy all the little spots great for photos!

This is the only tomb that was excavated and opened for public, no additional fee required to enter the tomb apart from the entrance fee to the whole big complex. One of the guide located in front if the tomb kindly explained in details about the history about this tomb in English! Not far from this location there’s a culture booth where you can watch more about the history while cooling down in an air conditioned room + charging station were also available! Inside the tomb it was surprisingly small(?) but packed with interactive information guide, replicas of the artifacts and it was definitely a must go!

We managed to see the beautiful cherry blossoms on the 28th March 2019. Its a nice place to take a relaxing walk. We went around 12pm and I was expecting it to be crowded however there were only a few tourists.

Bomun Tourist Complex is the international tourist district of Gyeongju. This tourist district is formed with Bomunho Lake at its center, located about 10 kilometers east of downtown Gyeongju. The area spans approximately 8,000 km², and contains an international-scale luxurious hotel, family-friendly condos, golf range, and pleasant walking passages that are designed to suit the diverse needs of tourists. The tourist complex attracts crowds of visitors in April, when cherry blossoms are in full bloom. The sight of cherry blossoms around Bomunho Lake and Bulguksa Temple are popular even among domestic travelers. I went on December, winter season, it’s not the best time to visit.

The pictures of the lake on the Internet doesn't really paint a complete picture of the lake. Learned from locals that the lake is only nice during certain periods of the year, particularly spring around Jan to Mar. Skip this place in summer because not only there is not much to see or do around the lake during this period, the weather is also sweltering hot, reaching almost 40° Celsius. There is a trail surrounding the lake that you can walk on to admire the view, but the beautiful bridge only works when the whole lake is filled. Cafes and other amenities dot the place too, while there are many big chains of hotels around. Some of the shops only open during the peak periods. Not as magical as what the internet portrayed during my visit here.

I came here as a cyclist as I had understood I could cycle around the lake. This isn't the case, bikes cannot use the two tracks around the lake, instead cyclists are relegated to a bike lane on a big busy road. So, I'd say it's rubbish for cyclists and what little I did see if the lake was over-developed.

Rich man Choi was a nobleman who owned the large area in Gyeongju. He used to run a large household with a complex that has his family home as well as a school for scholars. There are servant houses too. The structure is really old and well preserved. Though you cannot enter the rooms or the houses here but you can walk around and get a nice look at everything up close. It’s a great place to understand how the housing was for nobility in old times. There is no entry fee to this place.

Beautiful experience. Recommend the TempleStay 3 days/2 nights. Beautiful scenery, great food, amazing staff. You will not regret it!

I really have mixed feelings after visiting this temple. I was there for one full day. There were 2 trainings, plus morning meditation at 5:30 😅. It felt a bit like being in the army, but this wasn't the bad part. It feels a bit kitschy. I am sorry but it's true. They are expanding now .. so you can see new buildings or working areas everywhere. I had the feeling of a business .. probably from the monks taking the car between the buildings 😂, and we were supposed to go up and down the mountain. When we got there we were not greeted very nicely .. but asked for the money in kind of a rude way, then they explain you all the rules and you get your clothes and bed sheets. Some buildings don't have proper signs and it's easy to wonder a bit .. especially at 5 in the morning. I would definitely make some changes there. The food was not so bad, actually much better than expected. The accommodation is very basic, but the bathroom could be cleaner. The nature, the temple and the statue are really nice and totally deserve it. The "tea with a monk" part .. was a bit disappointing since we drank tea from some paper cups with the teacher. I was not expecting a real tea ceremony .. but paper cups!! We did not get any chance to ask questions .. we only took the time to know the other people from the group, which was not bad .. but not exactly what was expected. At the end, not sure if I would recommend this temple for spending the night there.

The nearest bus stop is a kilometre away at Andong samgyuri,so you will have to choose between walking that distance, or coming by your own conveyance. But, whichever way you choose, it is a place one should visit in South Korea. Situated atop a hill, the Buddha that is carved on a mountain face is said to be done by an Indian. Many Occidentals also come here to learn Sunmudo,and other practices of meditation. There are provisions for temple stay also for those who want to get a taste of what life in a temple or monastery . On every day at 3 pm except on Monday, there is a free demonstration of Sunmudo by the monks and students.

If you have spare time on your Gyeingju trip, a visit to this temple would be good. It's easy to get there from the city by taking the 100 or 150 bus which takes about 30 minutes to reach the Golgulsa entrance stop. From the stop it's another 20 minutes walk. At the site, there are many lodging for temple stay. The main attraction is the statue of Buddha curved on the side of a Cliff. There is a well built stair to reach the top.

Nice quiet location, but Buddha is under scaffolding for conservation. Seonmudo demonstration at 3pm was informative

This is a peaceful temple cradled at the edge of the mountains. There is a bus that runs close to here from the city too. I would highly recommend staying here for the temple stay program as they even teach martial arts here that is based on yoga. The rock carving that this is famous for is really interesting to explore.

We had an amazing time at Golgulsa Temple. To live with and learn from the monks in the temple was an unique experience that I will never forget. I just wished I had planned more time to be able to do a more intensive practice in Sunmudo because I feel like a lot of what you learn in one day goes away from your mind way too quickly. 😕

Nice place to visit. The stone Buddha from the 11th century is extremely impressive. It is very hilly so be ready for a workout! We did a one night temple stay as well. The temple stay was interesting. When we were there there were 2 large school groups ages 14-21. It seemed quite common among young school groups and as adults it didn’t seem to be the right match. Might be worth checking in advance who the other participants are. It was raining heavily when we got there and there was no common area so we just stood in the reception area. The sunmudo training was very intense and be prepared for a full workout (wear a moisture wicking tshirt!). The 108 prostrations was also a workout. The uniform they provided was thick canvas which was extra sweaty for the heat and humidity. The rooms are good and basic. Air conditioning worked well and there was hot water. Mattresses are quite thin so be prepared to sleep on an only slightly padded hard surface. The Buddhist programming was pretty good and the monks are very nice. This is a good way to learn about Buddhism. The tea time was excellent and strongly recommend attending this portion. Food is vegan and delicious.

Being a fan of Martial Arts, I really liked this place. The demonstration was good to watch. The temple is at the top of a steep road which takes about 10-15 minutes to get to from the entrance. The carved Buddha is situated on a steep slope that is covered with guard rails. There is a temple stay program here as well.

This is an incredible national park to visit and is fairly easy to get to from the main city. It even has a couple of UNESCO temples in the park that are worth a visit. The view from the top is simply amazing and the hike itself is easy and well marked. This is a must visit if you are nearby in Busan too and enjoy hiking.

Felt like we want to live there. The old house gave us a comfort!

My first time visiting Korea and this place gave me the idea what is it like in Korea drama show on TV. It's really beautiful old trad houses, totally worth to explore it. And inside every single one of them are houses, cafés, restaurants, offices and museums.

Very traditional village in Gyeongju. A lot of the buildings are preserved and you can enter a few of them to see how people lived in the past. The cafes are great and very traditional. I enjoyed spending time here and would definitely recommend people to visit.

Gyeongju Gyochon Traditional Village This is one of the most fun and exciting trip I've been is the Gyeongju trip. Gyochon Traditional Village is a place that you will enjoy visiting the old villages, experience korean tradition, and a lot more activities. There are traditional restaurants and coffee shops when you want to chill after visiting the place. I strongly recommend to visit this wonderful place of Gyochon Village.

Came here to buy something specific. Was very early but friendly ceramicist was able to make my trip worthwhile.

Was walking around 7 pm is on weekday very quiet . Mostly for commercial purpose and not much of the residence . Well preserved is very much for showcase purpose . Not a real living village anymore .

We stayed at a 150 year old hanok for a few nights while here. It was an amazing experience. The town has been there for around 1200 years going all the way back to the Silla Dynasty days. The culture and history are unsurpassed.

If you want to know more about Korean history and culture you must pay a visit to this place. It's about 1.5hours direct from Busan. I did a day tour/visit which is definitely not enough to see and know more about the place. There are several spots to visit around in the area. Both day and night have different view. Photos consist of my visit to the different spot in the town. However I went on a weekend which they have events in several places around the town which makes the traffic really congested.

Exploring the Gyeongju Gyochon Traditional Village was a cultural immersion despite the shops being closed during my visit. Walking through this quaint village, frozen in time, evoked a profound sense of tradition and appreciation for Korean culture. The well-preserved hanok houses and alleys whispered tales of the past, offering a glimpse into ancient Korean lifestyles. Even without the bustle of shops, the ambiance was rich with history, making it feel like a step back into a bygone era. The village's authenticity in preserving Korean heritage was striking, leaving a lasting impression of the country's deep-rooted traditions.. Visited during the month of February this year.

This is a beautiful traditional village set up with old houses and restaurants. They even have hanbok rental shop so you can rent a hanbok and get some lovely pictures clicked in this set up. It’s not very crowded so it’s great for pictures and taking walks. The restaurants serve traditional Korean food and have set menus and sit down set ups. It’s a lovely place to see in Gyeongju

My perfect visit to Mun-mu dae wang reung tomb. I’d like to share my experience of visiting Mun-mu dae wang reung. It is located in Gyeongju. Its owner is Silla King Mun mu. After King Mun mu unified the three kingdoms , he said he would become a dragon and defeat the enemies when he had died. This place has a interesting myth. When I traveled this heritage while studying history, I can remember him longer than other kings. I recall there were a lot of seagulls, it seemed that they were guarding tomb of king and the harmony of azure sea and gorgeous heritage makes me feel miraculous. It you are studying history or want to feel the spirit of wise ancestors , I want to recommend a visit to Mun mu dae wang reung!
