Beautiful knee deep water over a huge expanse. Well worth an early morning visit or wait until mid-afternoon. It's a protected park with limited services, kayak rental, a few SUPs. Pack out your own trash, pay small fee for porta potties. Some palapas (thatched umbrellas) if you get there early. Nice hike to the upper saddle ridge and if the tide is right you can access the beaches around the point. No charge to access.

One of the best beach I have been to, the water is crystal clear. The beach is up to knee height so you can walk out for a bit. The water is very refreshing even in November. There are a few umbrellas but it’s first come first serve. Some can be rented but not really worth it. There is no restaurant and 1 toilet so be prepared. We brought our own snack and spent about 5 hours here relaxing.

The have 2 entry times, 8am or 1 pm.. they only allow 400 people in at a time. You have to wait a in line of cars. They do not sell food or anything, as this is a national park. Balandra beach is one of the most beautiful beaches i've ever seen before. Water is clearly and blue, level is low so you can walk to much into it. You can see different fishes. Stellar spot! Great views. They restrict you to certain times. We arrived at 8:30am and had to leave by 12 noon. And they are sure to kick you out. Police use their sirens to make sure you leave and officials there literally kick you out. We ran a couple minutes behind and they told us to just throw our stuff in the van and clean it later. Its definitely a spot to check out.

Wow, Playa Balandra in La Paz, Baja California Sur is absolutely breathtaking! I've never seen such stunning scenery anywhere else. But I gotta admit, getting there isn't the easiest, mainly because the locals aren't always clear on how things work, or maybe they're just keeping it quiet – not sure. Here's what I found out from my visit in March 2024: 1. You'll need your own wheels to get to the beach. Taxis can take you there, but getting back might be tricky unless you've arranged something with the driver. 2. Since it's a protected area, they only let in 400 people during two time slots: early morning from around 7-8 am until noon, and then from 1 pm to 4 pm. But be warned, there's usually a long line of cars before each slot, so it's best to arrive early to secure your spot. 3. And here's the kicker – there are no facilities at the beach, so make sure to bring your own drinks and snacks. Plus, remember to take all your trash with you when you leave. 4. While you're waiting, you can rent chairs and umbrellas from vendors, although I didn't bother. 5. There are only a couple of porta-potties near the parking lot, so plan accordingly. 6. Oh, and don't count on any cell service while you're there. Despite the hassle, the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere of Playa Balandra make it totally worth the trip!

WOW...this whole area is just awesome..!! We had an opportunity to snorkel in the area, but we were restricted from climbing on the rock formations. There were coral in the area that were restricted and protected from placing a foot on it or near any of it. Even with all of the various restrictions, we still enjoyed as much of the snorkeling and exploring around the rock formations and coral in the area. We saw many varieties of fish and birds and several other unidentified life that was really great to see and explore. Kinda made us feel like we were the first to see it all! LoL Isla Espiritu Santo is a nature preserve area for snorkeling, swimming, and hanging out on the beach. We saw a variety of the local sea life including manta rays, schools of fish jumping out of the water, various kinds of tropical fish, the sea lion pups and adults. The area is best explored with a knowledgeable local or a knowledgeable tour guide who can answer any questions about the area or the licenses needed while in the area visiting. There were a many people in the area visiting with their own boats and docked in the area open water and adjacent to the land to get to the shores to enjoy the beaches or have a nice picnic under the their shade tent under the sun. The area was just awesome.

This beach has free parking, showers (with signs that say using shampoo/soap is prohibited), and bathrooms. There’s a long pier where you can walk and take pictures. I see where people say there are 2 zip lines but I didn’t see any staff or signs for it (I went on a Monday at 10am) so maybe they’re closed Monday’s. I would have sat at the beach in the shade (there were also chairs/tables for rent), but I saw a lot of ants in the sand so I decided against it. I’m not a beach person but between all the stairs/ramps/pier/restaurants there was a lot to walk around and explore. There’s also a bike path and sidewalk that goes along the road/rock wall that was shaded for part of the morning. There’s benches to sit on along the way too.

Stumbled on this place exploring La Paz from Todos Santos. It is a Tuesday 2/23, beautiful sunny day temp around 75, very light breeze. Easy parking, no crowds. Locals seem to like this spot. Couples and families here. They offer umbrellas, chairs and tables. Ordered some civiche and guacamole, large portions and so delicious. The big bottles of Pacifico seem to be a bit here. Very friendly staff, not much English but that was no problem. A pleasant mix of music from people's radios. The water is very clear and calm, and warmer than the pacific side. All in all a great place to relax for the afternoon.

Another beautiful Mexican Catholic church. It looks newer. I was rushing, so I prayed and kept going. Didnt get to learn the history. Do a quick stop here when in La Paz. 10 mins is enough.n

Sunday Mass: 7, 10, 11:30, 17:00, 18:30, 20:00 Saturday mass: 18:00 & 19:30 We have attended mass on Sunday morning in Spanish. (I love their version of the "Our Father.") We're still wanting to know if there is one in English, but not counting on it.

I have travelled about 4 times on the ferry. I then gave it 4 stars. On my last trip I gave it 3. Quality has gone down. My cabin was run down, it even had lice on the bed. Also chaotic getting in and out of the boat. It's not a very well managed operation, in my mind. More industrial focused than hospitality focused.

Got off our cruise ship and caught a taxi into La Paz. About a 20 to 25 minute ride. We were in a van with 10 people at $5 per person. For a couple of dollars more, you can take cab for four people. I advise you take the cab. There is also a free shuttle but you could end up wasting time waiting for it to arrive. If you are on a tight schedule, take a cab!

This is primarily a truck ferry, don’t expect a cruise ship. Get a cabin so you aren’t sleeping the floor with hundreds of others. It is just a few dollars more. Food provided but very Mexican basic. Bar service available. Our trip was smooth and on time

I bought my tickets at the office in La Paz which greatly simplified the port experience. There was a thorough but friendly search of the car before boarding, an unexpected 210 peso fee at the weigh station (it's legit, receipt and all). You can't access your vehicle during the trip so take anything you need with you. There's a cafeteria with surprisingly low rates (unlike onboard a plane), a bar, seating akin to economy flights but with plenty of leg room, and an outside observation area. If you have trouble sleeping on planes I'd recommend trying to get a cabin.

The trip is just way too long and very uncomforfotable . From Los Mochis aa the ticket said i began heading to the port around 9:00 pm It is about 30 minutes to get there and there is some walking too , your luggage has to be check before 11:00 pm , the Ferri sails at 12:00 The seat are ok and do recline but the lights remain on for the entire trip , you WON"T be able to sleep . The docking was at 8:00 am but you will begin disembarking at least an hour later , but it is very slow , so i got my bag around 10:00 am . Exhausted , hungry , sleepless , Bathrooms are very small for the amount of passengers , the whole boat smell terrible . Do whatever possible to not have to go this way , if you have to then , look for the cabins , no matter the price it will be worth it :(

Nice little local museum about the regional history. I especially liked the cave paintings replica - very cool! All descriptions in Spanish only, so have your translation app ready if you are not Spanish speaking. Everyone is super friendly and the museum guides like to share :)

I thought that this was a very nice little museum. In the interest of full disclosure I am a total nerd. We went on a Sunday (closed Monday); the cost was 75 pesos (<$5) and well worth it. The descriptions for each of the exhibits were quite informative, and the content was good. The descriptions were in Spanish, but if you use the QR codes on most of the signs then there are good English translations. There are exhibits on prehistory/early habitation, colonial period, and through the various revolutions. I do wish there was more geology, but that is a personal taste. RECOMMENDED, if you like museums more than beer and need to escape the sun for a couple of hour’s.

Definitely worth a stop if you’re in La Paz. The museum is well designed and they have volunteer tour guides who are fully fluent in English. You will learn the history of the Baja California peninsula, from the first settlers to now. It’s truly a wonderful experience.

I was pleasantly surprised by their exhibits, artifacts, and artwork. There are 3 floors, and each floor is a different time period in history. Starting with the natives culture & lifestyles to the Spanish influence / history to the founders of the country. All were very well depicted & made it easy to follow. The staff was very friendly & helpful as well.

Friendly, helpful staff. Museum is about half dedicated to colonial era forward. More of a History and Anthropology Museum than an Anthropology and History Museum. Native people before Spanish contact are portrayed as extremely primitive. Learned more about the Native people more from Wikipedia. The Spanish, the Jesuits, and "founding fathers" of the state are extensively covered. Colonialism is portrayed positively, no mention of the disease, removals, and cultural/language erasure suffered by the original inhabitants. Overheard a staff person explain to a Canadian visitor that this was because the Spanish culture is the culture of Mexico and right or wrong they have Spain to thank for what they have now. I wasn't aware that this was still a common sentiment in Mexico, so I guess that's what I learned here.

This museum was amazing to visit. We had Levi tour us around and share the stories and facts about the history in this region. It was so educational and our group really enjoyed listening and learning. The artifacts and exhibits were so well done and shown. We loved the experience, and reflected long after about how amazing it was. This is a must visit attraction in La Paz. Levi was so great at answering questions and sharing details that fascinated our group. Would return for sure!

We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. We learned a lot about the culture and history of Baja California. We were very impressed with the guide Levi as he is extremely knowledgeable and helped us to learn as went along. We also met a volunteer Daniela who provided additional information. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. This museum exceeded our expectations. Gracias!

Walked through the permanent and temporary exhibitions located on three levels. Lots of real and recreated artifacts and museum like items to see, as well as a well-informed guide, which added to our experience.

We went to visit last Friday Jan 5th 2024 at 3:15 pm. Unfortunately doors were locked with no signs posted about closing early. The security guard approached us to let us know he could not let us since they were closed and the lady inside at the main counter confirmed it. I argued they had different closing time online wich they replied it was not the right info and they were closing at 4 pm. I told them we were coming from far away and it was 3:15 pm if possible please give is the chance it wouldn't take us longer than 30 min to finish the tour but they did not let us in. We stayed there outside with the children and realized lady at the desk went out the building 5 min after denying our entry so figured she had to do some personal errands. She came back a few minutes before 4:00 pm and posted the closed sign but still there were visitors coming out the museum after 4. Horrible experience for the kids who were excited to see the museum and very irresponsible workers and false online information. Thanks

We enjoyed the displays so much. Although most commentary was on Spanish, it helped us out together sever as l pieces from our visit to Baja. We spent about 1.5 hours and loved seeing the pictures of the cave paintings and the models of how people lived through the ages.

Excellent little museum. Air conditioned clean and was blocks away from where we were staying. There is no entrance fee but a donation is always a good thing.

Very impressed. Drove by this place many times without ever seeing it because it's in a residential area. As being someone who helps care for a reptile (see some of my other reviews), we were impressed by the whole experience. The critters seem happy and healthy. The staff seem to really enjoy what they do. I would definitely recommend stopping by for a visit. FYI, They are providing care for more than just reptiles.

Nice area to bring the kids and see various snakes, monitor lizards, birds and other rescued animals. Fun gift shop area too with fair prices.

A small zoo, with turtles, reptiles and birds. There is a fee for entry, and you can purchase small amounts of food for the turtles, birds and rabbits. A small information card gives the animals scientific and common name, region and diet, in both Spanish and English. The animals appear to be well cared for. Some are being rehabilitated and some are permanent residents, used for educational programs. (There was a Mexican Grey Fox there when we visited -- so cute!) The turtles, birds and rabbits are habituated to expect food from visitors, so they will swarm you pretty aggressively. The only unfortunate part was the number of biting insects. We all had 20+ bites on our legs and arms before we were done. Wear bug repellent!

A great educational visit for adults & kids. Various snake, lizards, turtles - (endemic/native and alien/non-native species) rescue birds (last 2 times there was an injured caracara and snow owl in rehabilitation) The rabbit/guinea pig enclosure is hilarious entertainment for all! Locals discount for residents / nationals. Nice little gift shop supporting local artists.

Great way to see some of the local wildlife (in recovery) and also fun for kids to get hand's on to feed the budgies and guinea pigs.

Great place for families!!! This animal’s shelter and sanctuary have a good number of wildlife species of local reptiles, birds and other creatures. Also has petting zoo for the little ones. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the animals they live & recovery from injuries before returning to the wild. Regarding the size of the place, it’s a great opportunity to see, touch and learn about the locals wildlife. My kids love it, we will definitely come back on our next trip to La Paz.

It's 100 pesos per adult. My 3 year old daughter was free. This place is good if you have kids. There are lots of animals here for them to see. I liked seeing the many varieties of snakes local to BCS that I likely won't see in other zoos. There was one snake that allowed you to buy a mouse for 30 pesos or a rat for 50 pesos to feed it. Would have been interesting to watch but I felt too guilty to do it. My daughter's favorite part was the bird/bunny area. The birds can get a bit excited for food but the rabbits are very used to being handled. She had so much fun that she cried when we left.

An incredible beach to visit, even thought it is quite hard to get there since the only way to visit the beach is by boat, but after all, it is still a must of you are in La Paz, the beach is just as beautiful as Balandra which means an stunning view and maybe one of the most beautiful beaches you would ever see!.

Isla espiritu santo was definitely worth it. Great snorkeling and the contrast between the desert and subtropical waters was an interesting twist.

Beautiful beach, great for swimming. Shaded palapas or umbrellas (for rent). Restaurant workers walk along the beach and ask if you want any food or beer. We enjoyed our time here!

Well maintained Public beach with plenty public parking,, restrooms and showers. The Water is great to swim and good for kids. Bring your own food or buy it at the beach side

This beach has free parking, showers (with signs that say using shampoo/soap is prohibited), and bathrooms. There’s a long pier where you can walk and take pictures. I see where people say there are 2 zip lines but I didn’t see any staff or signs for it (I went on a Monday at 10am) so maybe they’re closed Monday’s. I would have sat at the beach in the shade (there were also chairs/tables for rent), but I saw a lot of ants in the sand so I decided against it. I’m not a beach person but between all the stairs/ramps/pier/restaurants there was a lot to walk around and explore. There’s also a bike path and sidewalk that goes along the road/rock wall that was shaded for part of the morning. There’s benches to sit on along the way too.

Lovely beach, very close to El Paz. They have umbrella/table/chair rentals for about 10 USD/hour when I visited in 2023, and there is table service for food and drinks. The water is crystal clear, warm, and calm.

Pretty calm ocean, sand is soft. There are restaurants and bars with servers that come down to the beach and offer chairs (plastic chairs, not lounge chairs) and tables if eating. Ignore the big container ships in the distance.

Stumbled on this place exploring La Paz from Todos Santos. It is a Tuesday 2/23, beautiful sunny day temp around 75, very light breeze. Easy parking, no crowds. Locals seem to like this spot. Couples and families here. They offer umbrellas, chairs and tables. Ordered some civiche and guacamole, large portions and so delicious. The big bottles of Pacifico seem to be a bit here. Very friendly staff, not much English but that was no problem. A pleasant mix of music from people's radios. The water is very clear and calm, and warmer than the pacific side. All in all a great place to relax for the afternoon.

Lovely little free museum with a small gift shop and cafe. If you typically breeze through paintings and photos, this will take you 20-30 minutes. If you like to closely look at the artwork you could spend an hour or two here. Free entry, photos without flash allowed, and small free lockers for backpacks.

Great design of the building but not much to see when I went. They do change the exhibits so maybe with others there is more to see. It was free and very quick visit, stayed like 10 minutes to see the upper and lower floors. They had a combination of modern art and some traditional. Mixed mediums. They also have a small store to buy items related to museum. It’s great to see if it’s on your way to someplace else.

It was a nice visit, the art exhibits they had were very interesting, the museum was not very big but worth the visit. Also a nice place to getaway from the heat.

A pleasant surprise ...free and small but impeccably clean and beautifully marked with modern signage. Only a few displays but lovingly curated and displayed with attentive friendly staff.

Although the door was unlocked during advertised hours on a Friday afternoon, I was told by staff the museum was temporarily closed to the public due to recent hurricane damage. They didn’t have signage indicating the closure posted anywhere outside or in the entry way. Oddly, the gift shop also appeared open. The staff locked the door after ushering me out but then let a group of four in a minute later. Outside is nice. The building stands out. Light posts on the west side of the building are striking. Pigeon population had some unique markings.

A really enjoyable collection of photography and paintings. We had a wonderful time seeing the work of Kijano for the first time. Definitely worth a visit if you're in La Paz!

The highlight was the amazing painted panels stretching a large wall that depicts the passage of time in the baja since prehistoric times. In addition, the Lucha libre display was really interesting and it explained why it is such a huge cultural event in Mexico. The explanation of devil masks, angels and other cultural and artistic folklore was also interesting, especially how fear was used to manipulate people even centuries earlier!

The security guards were so sweet. They have obviously been well trained. They are keen to help you take pictures and share their knowledge of the exhibitions. The museum is new. I want to live in the gift shop, it has so many nice pieces from all over Mexico. And the coffee shop has some delicious coffees.

Loved this museum. All residents and tourists of La Paz should visit. There is no cost for admission although donations are appreciated. The Museum is just a few blocks from the Malecon.
