For my 30th birthday celebration, booked a three-night stay at Hotel Conca Park. Initially excited by the promising images on the hotel's website and AMEX Travel, the reality fell far short of our expectations.
Catfishing Rooms —
If you are looking on the site or partner sites you might think the rooms look decent, maybe even nice - they are not. The rooms shown on the website do not truly reflect the rooms you will receive. They don’t show the uneven floors, the unsealed windows / doors, or the gaudy decor. There was a neon sign that read “the eyes have to travel” that was obnoxious, and remained lit as long as the lights were on. The hotel room was far from fine or luxury, but instead reflected a poorly decorated AirBnb home.
Poor Hygiene —
This was perhaps our greatest concern. It is also table stakes. We were met with swarms of flies and mosquitoes upon arrival. We chalked it up to the front entrance door being ajar, but little did we know this was the precursor to our experience. My partner booked a suite with a jacuzzi; however, we quickly realized the jacuzzi had not been properly sanitized. Its cover was adorned with cigarette buds, and the tub itself had dirt and hair within it. We asked the hotel to clean the tub prior to our use and they sent someone up to clean the room with no cleaning materials. He proceeded to not clean it and instead fill the jacuzzi. It was here when we realized that our standards for hygiene differed from the hotels.
Outside of the jacuzzi, there were visible dirt marks on the furniture, the bathrobes and on the walls of the room. The floors looked as if they hadn’t been mopped or swept, and the shower had gnats flying around. Our biggest point of concern came with the amount of bugs and spiders we endured. We were on the garden side of the hotel and with that comes a lot of little critters. There spiders all along the wall, the ceiling, the floors, literally everywhere. Daddy long legs, mosquitos, gnats, you name them. How did they get in you may ask? The windows and doors were not properly sealed. Despite our best efforts to close the doors critters found their way in. This created a bit of a nightmare situation for us as we were unable to rest due to concerns around the amount of spiders crawling on the ceiling. We were sleep deprived the following day for my birthday festivities.
Dismissive and Rude Customer Service —
The attitude of the hotel staff compounded our dissatisfaction. From the outset, we encountered rudeness from the front desk attendant. Our concerns were met with dismissiveness and disinterest, with the hotel initially claiming no alternative suites were available, contradicting subsequent offers to upgrade us to their "top" suite. This sudden change in availability, coupled with resistance to adjusting our reservation upon early departure, suggests an attempt to dissuade us from leaving.
Long story short. My partner and I were charged for three nights even though we stayed for two. The rooms do not look like their pictures and are not v clean. The hotel staff came off dismissive to our concerns and resistant to problem solving. For the price we paid, it is definitely not worth it. If you are visiting Sorrento, book elsewhere.
One last important note… this hotel does not take criticism well (as shown from previous negative reviews, threats to take legal action, and what will likely be a disrespectful and distorted follow-up to this review), this offers a glimpse into our experience and is telling of their character.
