Very disappointing! It has been closed for almost two years now, and there is not a single mentioning of this online or on street sighs. The site looks completely abandoned (we were there in the middle of the week and saw not a single person on site). It seems it will never open. Even locals don't know what's happening there and why it is closed. The official web-site says it is "transforming" which is a direct disinformation; the aquarium just does not exist anymore.

A great place for families to see tropical fish without getting wet. Our 3 year old spent an hour looking at the fish. There are bits the kids climb into and look closer at the fish - ours really enjoyed this. The touching area was closed due to COVID.

Loved it! Lots to see. Could spend all day here. Glad we got the family pass for reef hq and the museum. Excellent value. Awesome talks and presentations. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. We love visiting here. Highly recommend if you are visiting townsville. Just make sure you find out when the talks and touch pool is on so you don't miss out or have to wait to long if you have kids.

Thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon spent at Reef HQ. The size of the tank is enormous with an amazing variety of fish species. What I really enjoyed most was the knowledgeable staff in attendance. I must have attended four different talks on various aspects of marine life which were all very interesting. Also witnessed the feed time in the main tank. Along the passages are smaller tanks with sea snakes, sea horses and many other marine creatures. The price of the ticket is well worth it. I would highly recommend a visit next time you're in Townsville.

This place is awesome, passionate volunteers run this and it’s great to place to learn, admire or just relax on the lounges in front of the large tanks. Turtle hospital is definitely worth the visit as it gives a reality check after looking at amazing things. Cafe has tasty snacks and lunch, good coffee too. Bought a member ticket whilst here and go 1-2 times a week, under 5 year olds free.

Great place to take your children. Keeps them busy and cool in the airconditioning. Suitable for wheelchair access including the upper level. Every time we go we visit the cafe for a rainbow paddlepop with affordable food options.

Awesome! We went for fun and as a homeschooling experience. The education resources as well the education officer on site were amazing! We learnt so Loch and had so much fun. Highly recommend for all families!

Booking was full but after calling on the telephone, staff were nice enough to put us on a waiting list in case attendees left prematurely. We received a call and moseyed on down. A great experience in the heart of Townsville. Friendly and knowledgeable people and fish/molluscs/reptiles etc. very welcoming. One reviewer said (and I am paraphrasing here): “greatest way to see the barrier reef without getting wet” This is extremely accurate. Five stars.

Worth a visit. Family friendly enterprise but not as slick as more commercially orientated ventures. Large car park (free). Level walk most areas so suitable for pram/buggy users Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Coffee shop/cafe serves snacks and drinks..a picnic area in the open or under shade with plenty of tables and seating. Plenty of animals and birds to see. Gift shop selling usual range of items, pens, fridge magnets, tee shirts etc. Interactive feeding of kangaroos and turtles. Crocodile feeding is at set time for people to watch. Various 'meet and greet' sessions during day for dingoes, wombats, koalas, various reptiles and birds. Check signage for times. See the Cassowary bird....an endangered species....resembles something out of Jurassic World. 🙂

we loved our experience here. the sanctuary is well maintained and the ticket is affordable. very much enjoyed the kangaroo feeding experience. you could buy their bag of food for $3.

A wonderful day out. It would be great to see paths upgraded a touch as certain spots were a tad hard to navigate with a wheelchair BUT still manageable. The shows were informative and entertaining. Enclosures well kept, as was the whole park.

This is a great place for a family. Has a pool nice food and lots of animals to see. You can hold a koala ,snake and a wombat and some others too. Great experience

Had a great time. Loved all the animals especially the croc feeding and patting the gorgeous dingo. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Amenities clean. Scones delicious. They have fantastic picnic areas including BBQ and a pool. Would highly recommend.

Everytime we have visited the Billabong we've had such a great time! It's easily accessible making it inclusive of everyone young or old. There's plenty of animal interactions during the day, with the awesome knowledgeable staff presenting excellent shows you can tell they are passionate about their animals. $140 for a family day pass (2A/3K), with no extra to hold various different animals. Always a good time at the Billabong highly recommend a day here!

My family and I had an amazing experience at Billabong Sanctuary! The interaction with all animals was truly unforgettable. The rangers were incredibly attentive and friendly, and their explanations about each animal were informative and engaging. I couldn't have asked for a better visit. Highly recommend this sanctuary to anyone looking for a unique animal encounter 😊

I simply don’t go here enough. Super clean for the animals and a lovely place to relax, swim, eat at the cafe or bring a picnic or bbq. Rangers very informative and friendly with heaps of opportunities for animal interaction. Extremely lucky to have this place on our doorstep.

The kids really enjoyed the visit and the walk around the Billabong sanctuary. The animal interaction was an amazing experience. The staff and Rangers were friendly and knowledgeable. Worth a visit if you have kids that live animals and a short walk.

Awesome place to view Wildlife. Friendly staff that were helpful with navigation. Alot of turtles that follow you around and will eat out of your hand.

Had the most wonderful day here with my partner learning about the animals and interacting with many of them too!! The animals are all really well looked after and all look to be really happy and healthy. It’s a great sanctuary where keepers really understand the animals and know how to look after them whilst allowing visitors with special experiences. I’d suggest getting there at 9am as the timetable for experiences with animals begins then !:) Food is fairly priced and there’s lots of seating outside for you to eat hot food , picnics etc. There’s even a pool for the children to use which is a great idea as it was really hot when I visited!! Will 100% recommend - especially for couples or families.

Absolutely loved the bird show, was the best, my favourite part of the whole day. Also saw some other beautiful wildlife, a gorgeous tree kangaroo and a dingo, emus, koalas and the biggest captive crocodile in Queensland and beautiful black Cockatoos which are my absolute favourite birds. I couldn’t be happier about it, was a nice place to visit while in Townsville. Great experience :)

Not really that much of creatures, but a fun experience there. People can get very close to Kangaroos and koalas. There are many shows in a day starting from opening time.

Love coming here, so peaceful ,kids always enjoy interacting with the animals. The kangaroos are so laid back, we love feeding them The rangers are awesome, friendly and can answer any question. Had my son's bday here over the weekend, great facilities. We used the pool/bbq area. Entrance is quite expensive, you're better off getting the annual pass and come as many times as you want.

Had a great day out at Billabong Sanctuary with the family. They had staff walking around with different animals that you could hold and pat. Had lunch while we were out there. The Billabong Beef Burger and chips was the best burger l have had in Townsville for a long time. Definitely need to buy a bag or 2 of seed to feed the animals.

Overall, it's a decent location. Able to have interaction with a variety of native animals. The best for me was the Tree Kangaroo, very active, you wouldn't know he had no vision. I guess coming from Victoria, I noted the lack of grassed areas, otherwise it offers plenty for visitors.

Great wildlife reserve, staff were all friendly and the animals all knew they were safe and loved - their attitude to strange humans was all positive (Don't feed them without permission - some of these shots are birds being fed by their trainers)

Great morning out with the kiddos. You can take your own food and drinks, no alcohol though I think. Loads of whistling ducks, and turtles. Only saw 3/4 as the kids were exhausted. Kangaroos stayed well out of the way of people and the dingoes were on vacation I think, and no Meerkats. But still a great outing. Swimming pool is lovely, and the cafe has food and drinks. You can also buy food for the animals. Saw the croc feeding which was amazing.

It's amazing zoo,zoo itself it's not too big but you can interact with all different animals with no cost,you can hold snake and little 🐊for free and take pics with your phone and feed turtles free and get really close to wombat. Definitely worth the ticket price I feel this zoo it's more personally than any other zoo I love my meerket experience was amazing₍˄·͈༝·͈˄*₎◞ ̑̑ love it and also they have pool in the zoo its too hot Only thing I wish there are more choice of food and more kangaroos

Lots of seating and barbecues, or their cafe for lunch time, friendly awesome knowledgeable staff. Always a pleasure, we are Billabong Club members which is great for a last minute trip.

Fantastic place to spend the day as a family or with a group of friends. We go multiple times we year with the yearly pass. There is picnic and BBQ areas as well as a little cafe. We always end the trip with a swim in the pool. There are plenty of sessions throughout the day where they talk about the animals. With some of them being twice per day. There are opportunities to pet, hold, and have photos with some of the animals. The workers are very friendly and always willing to answer questions. Photos taken by my friend during our last trip

Our family visited this sanctuary in 2001. Didn’t have online reviews back then! This would have to be the most authentic amazing wildlife experience in Australia. Loved how natural it was, walking through the bush and coming across animals in there natural habitat. 100% above The Australia Zoo! Amazing staff, low key but very professional. A must do when you are in this area!

A pretty good museum, it has some nice displays and interactive things for the kids to do. Definitely worth checking out

Went to Lego Brickman City exhibit. Very clever people put it together. Everyone had a great time, whole family spent several hours building with Lego.

Not very big, but has lots of interesting information, great interactive areas. Our whole family enjoyed little science room and it's mind teasing activities! Don't think we solved dice puzzle 🤣

Great and informative museum! Specially if you’re fan of the deep diving they have a great collection and lots of information on recovery technology from deep wreckages. A lot of history about the HMS Pandora if you’re into history. Always better fun for kids but very interesting in general, worth to pay a visit.

We need to go more often. Loved the Action, Film, and War, Pandora, and the Walking through a Songline was beautiful. Rainforest, dinosaurs, and science areas were also fun and interactive. Tonka's corner ♡

Small interactive museum. Kids loved the hands on science room and the enchanted forest. Spent about 2 hours here, we did everything to do. Locals get half price entry, only available to purchase at door. Went on Easter Sunday and it was very quiet which was nice as the kids could spend time on things they enjoyed.

Absolutely loved the museum. The story of the HMS Pandore is greatly narrated by audiovisual materials, text and original artifacts from the ship wreck. In the upper levels the natural history museum is also very interactive and explained, I particularly liked the exhibition of sealife and corals. Tickets for 15$ only and is suitable for kids as well!

Fantastic value. We were here for hours. Everything was interesting and informative, the kids had lots to do. We stopped at the cafe for lunch and coffee (both excellent). One of the volunteers told us all about the Pandora exhibit which was wonderful to listen to. I'm sure we would be here frequently if we lived closer.

A great activity for the whole family. The kids particularly loved the interactive Science section. The displays are very well done and it's quite affordable at $35 for a family.

A most interesting museum to visit. The amount of different types of displays was worthwhile the visit. There were historical, prehistoric info etc. Plenty of explanations of what the exhibits were.
