For hikers, Plitvice Lakes National Park offers a variety of trails that wind through alpine forests and meadows, past sparkling lakes and waterfalls. The park also contains 16 freshwater lakes that are popular for rafting and kayaking. The park was the site of armed confrontation during Croatia's war of independence in the early 1990s, but has since been renovated as a source of economic wealth for the region. Today, visitors can explore hiking trails and enjoy beautiful natural scenery.
One of the most majestic places I have visited in my life, the winter landscape is beautiful, as well as the paths to walk for hours with a different landscape every 3 meters.
The waterfalls are incredible and it is a super good space to go with pets and be there for at least 3 or 4 hours touring the place.
The staff was very friendly

This is without a doubt the best place I have ever been. Nature is wonderful, here you can see its pure beauty. The place is fantastic, the staff is helpful, there are small restaurants, gift shops, restrooms in the park. The boat fee is included in the entrance fee. I recommend route C, which is not challenging, the total distance is eight kilometers, with a negligible elevation gain. Cool buses will take you back to the main entrance at the end of the visit. 5*

The lakes were simply fantastic, the price is worth the visit, but I recommend mixing up the paths. We were there when the park opened, after the tour and going back to the entrance area we were very glad we went at 7 am.. the place was crowded.. a lot of tourists really. I recommend going as early as you can, if you want to visit calmly and are not too fond of crowds.
Marina Perin — Google review
Absolutely Stunning creation of Nature!! The hike is beautiful and offers wonderful views. The park has 2 entrances and both entrances have 4 routes to choose from. We entered from entrance 2 and did route H which is quite similar to route C from entrance 1, it is almost 9kms and requires 4 - 6 hours. In the peak season, a ticket costs 40 Euro for an adult and it’s better to buy tickets in advance. Ticket price includes the bus and boat ride.
Trail is well maintained and has clear directions as per routes. It was a bit crowded due to summer vacation, so try going as early as possible in the morning.
Wear comfortable shoes, hiking shoes are recommended though. Carry enough water and some snacks, though you can also buy inside the park.
Definitely worth a visit!!

A very very beautiful national park. Worth visiting.
Better to go early in the morning or afternoon to see the water color as aqua blue/green. By evening since the sun starts setting in the west, it won't reflect on water and may miss the beauty of this magical place.
Trek route C or H is best as it covers both lower and upper lakes. There are beautiful waterfalls in the upper lakes. It will take a minimum of 6 hrs to cover this route.

It had poured down rain all night and morning, so I delayed entering the park until late morning. The guide suggested which trails to take for a good half-day excursion. I really don't think you can go wrong. So beautiful!

I can imagine it gets crowded in the summer but on a rainy day in April is was empty, calm, misty and incredibly beautiful. The park itself is intelligently set up, with well-maintained paths and platforms that swirl in-between and right up to the waterfalls without clashing with the landscape. In fact, the park seems to be a model of how to organize such a site in ways which make it ecologically responsible, easily accessible for a lot of people, with well thought out branching paths, sufficient rest stops that are discreetly integrated in the setting and plenty of (silent) boats/shuttles.

It is a beautiful natural park. The views are just amazing! It has very colourful landscapes and lakes. It is definitely worth the visit and to spare a lot of time. Unfortunately I did not had the opportunity to camp for a longer time but now have seeing what I have there, I’d definitely think about staying more time in a next opportunity. I went as couple and during summer which is allegedly the best time to see the crystals on the water reflected by the sunlight.

Beautiful national park. There is a bus that goes directly from Zagreb to the park, it takes approximate 2hrs and 15 minutes . I strongly recommend to purchase the tickets online in advance. It is good to spend at least 6 hours walking around.

Wonderful park. We were lucky to find an amazing sunny weather after the heavy rain of the days before. I suggest to follow the H path from entrance 2. Come early in the morning (we enter at 9am) to fully enjoy the experience without annoying crowd.

Spectacular! The park and the lakes are the Moseley amazing lakes I've ever seen. The color is unreal, the waterfall are stunning. The park is crowded, even early in the morning but very organized. Attention that you also need to pay for parking separately.
Yuval Mohl — Google review
Beautiful. There are several hike options but it can get very busy during the holiday season, even in early September. The trails are quite narrow and you could get held up if one person stops to take pictures.
The cafeterias within the National Park do not offer much choice, especially if you are a vegetarian.
Gopika Avanoor — Google review
I’d like to give this place 5 stars just based off its incredible beauty. But, the park has a bit of a bad design for being able to see it without being overcrowded, which the design and setup of the park causes. There’s basically one narrow boardwalk through the various levels of the lakes, which have no railing. So you really can’t stop anywhere and just take in the view or get pictures that aren’t horribly rushed. They also have a ferry system that appears to be badly overwhelmed with extremely long lines (we didn’t take it because of those lines). Other than that, this park is absolutely gorgeous. Crystal clear blue/green/turquoise waters everywhere. Many waterfalls and overflows and lush green trees. Just absolutely picturesque. But other than that boardwalk, there’s not really much else to see or do, no other trails or anything. There is also timed entry, so either purchase tickets beforehand, or be prepared to wait until the next time available. All in all, if you’re in Croatia, you should definitely go check out this park. Crowds notwithstanding, it’s still a pretty cool place and extremely beautiful.

I split the trip into two days - one day for the upper and one for the lower lakes. I highly recommend splitting it up. I also did the end of day and early day to avoid the crowds which was perfect. This is truly a magical place with just breathtaking scenery.
H. Rai — Google review
The most beautiful part is the first lake plus the overview of the waterfalls. The rest of the park is nice but for what it is, it's overpriced and overcrowded.
A lot of people are happy with just seeing the waterfalls so they could separate hikers from sightseers to fix some of the overcrowding.

You can go there with kids but I think that it could be dificult with stroller. On trails you can use a boat or buses (on some stages). There are a lot of stops with toilets and even fast food. On the stop next to the boats there is tap with a water that you can pour to bottle. From the cons: huge crowd. The amount of people is crazy there. The price - 40EUR per person - very expensive. Moreover you must pay for parking, too. It is not included in the ticket price to lakes. You must buy ticket in advance, tickets are sold for particular hours.

A must go if you're in Croatia. Pick the longest route, it's not a difficult stroll. There is a boat ride in the middle, but it is very smooth and relaxing. Experiencing the layers of this beautiful green-blue park is definitely and experience you won't forget. The longest route could take up to 6 hours, but if you're not taking your time you can easily complete it in 4 hours.

Amazing landscape. A few hours drive out of Zagreb and worth the effort. To truly appreciate this national park, you should spend one or 2 nights to complete the longer hikes. Hiking routes are well sign posted. Park entry is €10 per person.

Loved my visit to this national park with its lakes, waterfalls and woodland hills.
Free parking at this time of the year (early march) for my motorhome. The facilities are great for coffee and food. There is a boat ride or you can walk, I took the boat but walked back. The sun was out so made the scenery extra special. The lakes and various waterfalls are impressive. There are nice pathways and clear signs. Everything was brilliant, highly recommend. I will be back.

A must visit paradise in Croatia and one could easily get lost for half a day to a couple of days depending on the interest. At least half a day in a rush to get a taste of paradise is a must.
There are 2 entrances with a good number of parking places which seemed not crowded during October maybe in season it could be packed. Entrance tickets and parking was way below what I expected for this gem of nature. During the season it is a different price but worth paying. I do not understand why some reviewers complain about the price when it is so much of a treasure.
Overall the park is well maintained with good hiking trails, clean restrooms and good cafes and restaurants.
The park can get crowded but as a sensible tourist one has to plan and not blame the crowds on the park. The boardwalks can be packed with tourists hanging to take pics and not respecting others, just be mindful of this crowd
We parked at the first entrance and did the long trail - K which includes the boat ride and option to take the shuttle back to the parking lot. The trail starts off at the lower lakes with views of the amazing waterfalls before heading through the various trails, boardwalks and then the upper lakes.
If time permits I would recommend adding another trail to enjoy more of the views.
Near entrance 1 there is a really good restaurant for an amazing lunch or dinner. The day we visited it was not crowded and we were able to enjoy a peaceful lunch.
Overall a must visit park for all seasons.
Pradeep Ponnuswamy — Google review
Most beautiful waterfalls I have seen anywhere. Absolutely stunning. We did the full loop over the lower and upper lakes and it was about 12 miles. It took us 5 or so hours total with a stop for lunch.
We did this in March so the crowds were easy to handle. Particularly away from the two different entrances.
Diego Salas — Google review
Magical place. Makes you stop in owe and wonder.
The trick is to visit in low season (we went in April) and arrive early (we took the first boat from entrance 2 @8.30 and were the only people on it!). Then as we walked there was almost no one there and so it felt as if we had the whole park to ourselves.
Marta Walters — Google review
The park is amazing. Well worth the trip even in the off season. We visited in late March and there was hardly anyone here. The park was really beautiful, even though the trees had not leafed out yet. We spent two days in the park and we were glad we had the second day.
Corey Reimer — Google review
Definitively over crowded (also in March) but a must-see when in Croatia! The upper lakes are more beautiful than the lower ones, so pay attention when they are accessible as they are closed in winter. Alltogether something for your bucket list like the Grand Canyon or the Eiffel Tower.

Zagreb, the capital of Croatia located in the north west, stands out for its architecture from the Austro-Hungarian era in the 18th and 19th century. The city's center is Upper Town where one can find Zagreb Cathedral with its Gothic twin spires as well as St. Mark's Church which dates back to the 13th century and boasts a roof adorned with colorful tiles.

Bear Sanctuary, Kuterevo

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Nestled in the northern Velebit mountains, Bear Sanctuary, Kuterevo is a haven for orphaned bears undergoing rehabilitation. The sanctuary, sustained by donations for over 20 years, offers a hippy commune vibe and ample free parking. Visitors can observe nine well-cared-for bears in spacious enclosures while enjoying the picturesque surroundings of the small village. Run entirely by volunteers, the sanctuary provides educational information and offers locally made products like jam, honey, cheese, and vegetables.
Phenomenal experience. Be patient with the tiny roads with limited passing places and you’ll be rewarded with quaint villages entire to this sanctuary. All the bears here have been rescued and span a variety of ages. Run entirely by volunteers a donation to their cause is very welcome. There are no toilets here (there are compost ones only available for the volunteers which you can’t use) so be prepared. Parking is plentiful. An experience we won’t forget.
Matthew Douglas — Google review
Came back to the bear refuge after visiting earlier in the week, but on that occasion we didn't manage to them, partly as it was around the hottest time of the day when the bears try to stay out of the sun and keep cool. This time we went back in the evening and managed to see all 5 bears, which was a great experience. For the best chance to see them, aim to arrive early to mid morning or after 6pm.
Mark Graham — Google review
Beautiful place to visit. You can talk to volunteers there and find out more about the bears who live there. And you can also volunteer here. The sanctuary is free to visit. In the little shop you can buy small handmade ( affordable) souvenirs or just donate. :) lovely place surrounded by beautiful nature.

Kid volunteers and lots of positive energy.

A great place to visit. A sanctuary that works from donations and volunteers. They dedicated their lives to these Wanderful creatures. During the winter season only the three small bears were active.
It would be great it some of the information signs were typed and a picture added of each bear but apart from that. Great place

Refuge is settled within small village Kuterevo, close to the mountain area and scenery is divinely. Bears are placed in decent enclosures and natural environment. Lots of volunteers are working there, and education&information is provided. Great offer of homemade local products ( jam, honey, cheese, vegetables etc.)

Enjoyed our time and saw 8 of the 9 bears. Obviously a lot of love for some very neglected animals. It's also a pretty spot in the mountains. Well worth your time and a donation.

Lovely bears in good enclosures who are clearly loved.
In a tiny village but worth the visit. They have some adorable trinkets to buy and support their cause too.

What a beautiful place with the most lovely volunteers who help explain everything you need to know about the rescued bears before you start your tour around the bear park. It's most definitely worth a visit. I was totally transfixed with these amazing animals! Make sure to leave a donation, or buy some gifts from the volunteers' gift shop. It's all for a good cause.
Samantha Page — Google review
Beautiful place where the bears can be seen from very small distance. There are some other domestic animals to be seen at the parking (hens, ducks, roosters, ducklings, etc.). You pay for your visit at the end and you can also buy some souvenirs there (necklaces, key rings and so on).
Andrijana Simcic — Google review
Humble appearance but with a noble idea in the background. An attempt at a self-sustaining practice through donations and volunteers, and free entry for all visitors. This is not a zoo, but a refuge for bears who have been given help and a new chance at life. It's been working like this for years. The influence of volunteers from different countries is visible all around. A noble and humane idea that came to life.
Kristina Tina K — Google review
The bear sanctuary in Croatia is simply remarkable and your ability to get up close to these creatures is unparalleled. The drive to Kutervo can be a little tricky but all do-able. Strongly recommend a visit. It's a unique place.
Dr Jamie Smith — Google review
Whilst travelling around Croatia, we came across the Bear Sanctuary after finding positive reviews.
It's tucked away in a small village. Plenty of free parking.
The Sanctuary has a nice hippy commune feel about it, surviving around 20 years on donations only. The 9 bears appear well in reasonable sized compounds and amazing to watch and see - the kids loved it, parents too.
My only suggestion would be to make the donations jar a bit prominent. I had to hunt it down to donate.

The place where to learn from great people about problems and possible solutions that bears community have to face to survive and continue to exist in Europe.

The best natural park ever, the water color is absolutely amazing. Very very very nice. we did everything in one day but i wish we had the time to spend two days at least.

Amazing landscape. A few hours drive out of Zagreb and worth the effort. To truly appreciate this national park, you should spend one or 2 nights to complete the longer hikes. Hiking routes are well sign posted. Park entry is €10 per person.
Highly recommended

We bought tickets online and all went perfectly even if it was crowded but still I really like walking and enjoying nature and taking pictures.
Everyone should visit Plitivice at least once in life. It's one of the most beautiful National Parks I have ever seen.
I will visit again.

Modern, new and clean rooms. Amazing outdoor area. Very helpful and friendly staff who can help you with buying tickets and give you tips on what to see or where to eat in the area.
If you are looking for a quiet place in Plitvice, this is the best place.
The accommodation is approx. 400-500 meters from the unofficial entrance to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. However, you can only use this entrance with a valid ticket, which you must purchase in advance (24 hours) on the Plitvice Lakes website.
We spent in this place 3 wonderful nights and had enough time to explore Plitvice lakes and taste local food

Milica Rapaic was a perfect host for such a cute and picturesque B&B in the great mountains of the Plitvica!!
With the help of Milica, she help planned my proposal here :)
She gave secret tips of the best view points that only the locals know! She and the team exceeded expectations and made us feel very warm and welcomed.
We could not highly recommend the B&B (my fiancée mentioned it was the best shower she ever used!) and a special thank you from us in making our stay, a perfect night to remember for the rest of our lives!

Beautiful place, peaceful in the forest, owner is very nice.
Great Waterfall, also known as Veliki Slap, is a stunning natural wonder located within a national park in Croatia. Standing at an impressive 78 meters tall, it is the highest waterfall in the country and offers breathtaking views. The surrounding area features picturesque picnicking spots and a viewing platform to take in the beauty of the cascading water. Visitors can also explore the Sastavci waterfalls, which create a dramatic scene as they appear to be an extension of Great Waterfall.
A gorgeous national park. The water is so beautiful and the falls are stunning. Really nice walking trails, well sign posted and the routes are well set up. It gets a bit busy at points but otherwise it's a lovely experience.

This Great Waterfall is indeed great and with 87m the highest in Croatia. There is a wide observation area in front of the waterfall which you can reach by foot via a wooden pathway. The shortest distance is from entrance 1 (north)
It's probably best to visit in spring or autumn when it's not so crowded and there is more water from rainfall

We were there in September, hoping for good weather but it wasn't the case, too bad.
The silver line being that the place wasn't overcrowded as it seems to be usually (at least according to the many reviews).
This is an impressive waterfall, great as its names indicates (close to 90m height) and definitely a highlight of this famous park.

All in one, pure nature, wild animal life, and unforgettable experience. Excellent walking and hiking paths all across the park. Resting spots for coffee or small food breaks are also located inside the park area. Recommend at least 5 hours of stay to view and enjoy most of it, preferably in the springtime when it's not too crowded.

Veliki Slap at Plitvice Lakes is a truly remarkable waterfall. Surprisingly, the best vantage point to admire its beauty is actually outside the national park. The view from this spot allows you to truly appreciate the grandeur of the waterfall. For an even more enchanting experience, I recommend visiting early in the morning before the crowds arrive. The tranquility and lack of rush enhance the magic of the place. Veliki Slap is a natural wonder that leaves you in awe, and with the right timing and perspective, it becomes an unforgettable memory that captures the essence of Plitvice Lakes' beauty.
Medieval fortress on a forested hilltop overlooking Samobor town & surrounding peaks.
The ruins of old castle of Samobor. It doesn’t make sense to schedule a lot of time for that place but the walk to the castle is highly recommended. The nature around is amazing and the view from the top is very beautiful.

These walls could tell a thousand tales..
The structure bears witness to this lovely town's past grandeur and significance.
Owing to the ruin's hilltop location, there is an outstanding vantage point of Samobor and the surrounding area.
lubieimbir — Google review
The better path up to the castle is from behind the swimming pool, not next to the church. The path next to the church which is the path recommended by Google is extremely steep and narrow. The path behind the swimming pool is wider and less steep. You will also pass a water fountain on the way when going up the path from the swimming pool.
Samantha Agnes — Google review
Cool abandoned castle on a hill overlooking Samobor. The hike up is pretty easy and you are rewarded with nice views of town as well as some exploring of the ruins.
The road to get to the start of the trail is closed so you can either park in town and walk over or drive around which takes around 15 mins.
Diego Salas — Google review
Good walk and great view. There are two paths leading to the castle. One start from the park that follows the river and one starts from the church Saint Michael. The one that starts from the church is the one that we took and it is a little bit dangerous and if you are with small children have to be very careful or just take the other path. Baby's and trolley or bicycles are definitely a bad idea for the path that starts from the church. Have to be careful in the castle but it is a beautiful place.

A ruin of epic proportions! Great place to investigate the history of old Croatia and you’re free to wander amongst the overgrown broken walls. It’s a bit of a steep trek up the castle but worth it.

It very abandoned, also not a real tourist place. Don't follow google instruction passing behind the church, there you'll need to climb the hill!!

It is a very beautiful place with its nature and view, but the inside of the castle is very dirty. Let me add the road very steeply.
mert gürcan — Google review
Very steep and narrow path to get up here, I wouldn't recommend for families with young children or the elderly. It's a shame they aren't keeping the site clear of undergrowth, but at the same time it gives these ruins an added sense of age and abandonment. The walls and trees prevent good views back towards the town but you do have a good view in the opposite direction, West, towards the Samobor mountains.
Miles Macdonald — Google review
Very impressive ruins! It is quite a steep hike up but is not far. The path is clear, but steep and slippery in spots, so you need the right shoes. Someone wrote that you could take a stroller up, but I would say that the path (at least the path we found) was WAY too steep for a stroller. Well worth the hike up!!!!

The beautiful old town/fortress of Samobor, but unfortunately there is no investment to renovate it and turn it into a museum/attraction, so it has been left to the test of time. It is still nice to visit if you are in Samobor.

Castle is around 800 years old. The ruins are spectacular and has a great view of Samobor from the top. Ascension to the castle does not require special training, the trails are well conserved and it's just a 20-min walk to get to the top. Thick walls inmersed in vegetation, you feel like transported to Middle Ages. Samobor is just 30 min away from Zagreb by bus.
Gornji Grad-Medveščak is a region in the city of Zagreb, Croatia that sits atop a hill, which is why it's colloquially referred to as Upper Town. Its placement above Donji Grad makes it an important historical site with incredible views of the city below.
The Kulmer Palace Museum is dedicated to personal objects from former lovers, with accompanying short synopses of their relationships. It is a quirky and interesting museum that is well worth a visit for its unique collection.
I think this museum is quite unique in terms of theme. Each and every item in the museum has a story which will amuse and make you sad both at same time. Some stories are very touching and quite a collection of from everywhere in the world. I believe it's must visit in Zagreb, you can't hear stories of people everywhere.
Sonika Prakash — Google review
Do not hesitate to go to this museum if you like to read, like English and/or if you are into love stories. It’s a museum in which there are objects people have given them accompanied with the story of it. Some of them are truly emotional to read, and you will relate somehow with at least some of the stories (there are some about family, not only couples). Even though they say you take from 45min to 1h, I was so involved with the stories, I just lost track of time and spent 2h there, reading and understanding. There’s a book you can write there, it’s a great moment to let go, and there’s also a bar. Great experience, it was my first stop in Zagreb and I definitely say you shouldn’t skip it if you like reading!

This is a roving exhibit that goes around the world. The idea here is to exhibit items that signify love lost and tell their story. And these stories come from around the world.
Some of the stories are quite quirky while others are down right sad to read.

Emotional and tragic museum with a variety of stories. The exhibition is well made and with a lot of detail, but the place is really small so it can get crowded easily. Also the cafè next to it is cut, nonetheless the worker could be more friendly.

Not a typical museum. The personal stories were interesting, funny, touching, sad, weird, and gross at different points. I enjoyed my visit more than I expected. Cool souvenirs, too. I disagree with previous comments claiming that it's small. I read every story and felt like if there were more, it would've been too much

Absolutely fantastic! From being on the verge of tears, laughing and being absolutely shocked. If you wander through the entire museum (which I recommend) it’ll take you about an hour. Cost is 50kn. Each sign is in English and Croatian but a visitor book is provided if you do not speak these languages. Toilets and a cafe inside the museum. Great gift shop, including a book which has more objects not in the museum.
Definitely recommend for anyone in Zagreb.

A very surprising museum. First of all, relatively cheap, with prices being €7 for adults and just €5,50 for students. I spent a solid 1+ hour inside and instead of my expectations of the museum just being about toxic or broken romantic relationships, the museum actually sheds light on very interesting other themes in an interesting way. The exhibition consists of personal stories that revolve around anything from romance, parental love, family dilemmas/losses to dramatic losses as a result of war. All in all a very interesting and 'enjoyfull' experience and an assured recommendation for anyone looking for an interesting/alternative museum in Zagreb :)

Wow. What a cool concept for a museum! There are moments of heartbreak, laughter and reflection and I’m sure we can all relate to something there. The exhibition at the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb is fascinating. It thoughtfully displays objects symbolising the conclusion of various relationships, whether between an individual, friends, family, or even a person and an object. As you explore the exhibit, you come across diverse items, each accompanied by a story that unveils the depth and meaning behind it. The museum provides a distinct perspective on human connections, capturing the intricacies of relationships, beautifully curated and emotionally resonant, offering a unique insight into the complexity of relationships.

Firstly, the museum's name is incredibly appealing. I was captivated by this exhibit to the extent that I immersed myself in nearly all the narratives. I wholeheartedly endorse this museum.
However, my museum experience was somewhat disrupted by noisy fellow visitors. It would greatly enhance the ambiance if a "Please Maintain Silence" sign were placed, considering that the primary attraction here is the written word.
Karishma — Google review
A very different experience, one of happy and sad all mixed. The stories…some are devastating, some are the harsh truth, some are just lovely memories or memoirs. We all really enjoyed it, teens included.

The museum is cool, all fancy inside with brochures in many languages. The stuff on display has stories in Croatian and English. They sell lots of things too. I thought it'd be funny stories about relationships, but only a few were like that. Most were about war, losing family, and sad tales. It made me really sad reading all that stuff.
The Jesuit Church of St. Catherine is an impressive medieval-style Catholic church constructed in the 13th century. The interior of the church is decorated with beautiful examples of Baroque art, as well as stucco reliefs by Italian artist Antonio Quadrio from the 1720s. The church also has a beautiful ceiling in the nave with many medallions depicting scenes from the life of Saint Catherine.

The 13th-century St Mark’s Church is one of Zagreb’s most emblematic buildings.
Its colourful tiled roof, constructed in 1880, has the medieval coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia on the left side, and the emblem of Zagreb on the right.

A smallish and fairly simple gothic church with a baroque tower. The church is known mostly for it's colorful tiled roof that sports two coats-of-arms. It's located between government buildings and was entirely closed off in the July of 2021. An ornate side gate decorated with a number of statues is the highlight of the entire structure. The church is not a cathedral, but one of the oldest churches in the city

Very pretty church from the outside. Unfortunately, it seems like you can't get close to it nor inside right now. Someone else mentioned that's because of security measures since most of the government buildings are close by. It's a shame since it looks like it would be pretty cool inside.

One of Zagreb's most iconic architectural and cultural places, the Saint Mark Church is located at Saint Mark Square, part of the former Gradec, today the Upper Town Zagreb.
The tiled roof presents two historic emblems. One is of the former Kingdom of Croatia, Dalmatia, and Slavonia. The second represents Zagreb, the city of wide-open gates, always open to visitors and new citizens.
For many people, Saint Mark's Church has also a special emotional value, especially if they entered the marriage in this particular church.

Review of the Church of St. Mark in Zagreb
Location: Zagreb, Croatia
The Church of St. Mark in Zagreb is a breathtaking architectural gem, renowned for its cultural and historical significance. This church, situated in the heart of Zagreb’s Upper Town, is a testament to the city’s rich past and vibrant present.
Architectural and Historical Significance
Built in the 14th century as a parish church, St. Mark’s Church has undergone numerous transformations and restorations throughout its history. It’s most famous for its colorful tiled roof, featuring the coats of arms of Zagreb, Croatia, Dalmatia, and Slavonia. This roof is not only a symbol of the church but of Zagreb itself.
The southern portal of the church, a relic from the transition from the 14th to the 15th century, is an exquisite example of Gothic architecture. The church has endured various historical events, including earthquakes and fires, with significant restorations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Recent Renovation
Recently, the Church of St. Mark underwent a comprehensive renovation, which lasted more than three years and cost over six million euros. This renovation was crucial, particularly after the significant damage caused by the Zagreb earthquake in 2020. The church’s interior, including its vaulted ceiling and frescoes, was meticulously restored, preserving its historical essence while ensuring its structural integrity .
Accessibility and Current Status
Unfortunately, due to security measures following a terrorist attack near the government buildings in 2021, access to the church has been restricted. These measures, while necessary for safety, have temporarily limited public access to this magnificent church. The Croatian government is working on solutions to allow visitors and worshippers to enter the church safely while maintaining the required security for nearby government buildings .
Incorporating into a Zagreb Itinerary
When visiting Zagreb, a stroll around the Upper Town is a must, and the Church of St. Mark, despite the current access limitations, remains a key landmark. You can admire the church’s exterior and its iconic roof from the St. Mark’s Square. The square itself is a hub of political and cultural activity, flanked by the Croatian Parliament and other historical buildings.
Overall Impression
The Church of St. Mark is more than just a place of worship; it’s a symbol of Zagreb’s historical resilience and artistic richness. Its recent restoration underscores the city’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage. While access to the interior may be limited, the church’s exterior alone is a sight to behold and a reminder of Zagreb’s enduring spirit.⬤

St. Mark's Church, situated in the Upper Town of Zagreb, Croatia, is a remarkable example of Gothic architecture. Its distinctive roof features the colorful coats of arms of Zagreb and Croatia. This iconic landmark is not only a testament to the city's rich history but also serves as a place of worship and a symbol of civic pride for the people of Zagreb.

One of the best known rooftops in Zagreb. It's worth visiting. I didn't have a chance to visit inside.
Ul. Ivana Tkalčića, previously known as Potok (the brook) once served as a boundary between two districts, Kaptol and Gradec. Today, it is a delightful street with various interesting features that attract numerous visitors. Despite its rich historical significance, the street has undergone significant transformations to become an exciting hub for tourists and locals alike. With its charming allure and unique character, Ul.
The Cathedral of Zagreb, Croatia was built in the late 13th century and is a significant example of Gothic architecture. The cathedral suffered damage from an earthquake in 1880 but has since been reconstructed using original designs. It is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Central Europe and is a popular tourist destination.
Gorgeous church!
Unfortunately still under restoration and no entry allowed.
The outside is really beautiful
Don’t miss the clock on the wall to the left of the church

The cathedral is very nice and absolutely worth visiting. At the moment they are restoring many things (because of an earthquake damage 2 years ago I think) and that’s why you can’t go in. The platform in front of the cathedral is nice for pictures and to the city center square it’s not far to walk! Nice place.
Leon Wiemann — Google review
In 1093 when King Ladislaus I of Hungary (1040-1095) moved the bishop's chair from Sisak to Zagreb, he proclaimed the existing church as a cathedral. Construction on the cathedral started shortly after his death and was finished in 1217 and consecrated by king Andrew II of Hungary. The building was destroyed by the Mongols in 1242 but rebuilt by bishop Timothy (1263–1287) a few years later. At the end of the 15th century, the Ottoman Empire invaded Croatia, triggering the construction of fortification walls around the cathedral, some of which are still intact. In the 17th century, a single fortified renaissance watchtower was erected on the south side and was used as a military observation point, because of the Ottoman threat.
The cathedral was severely damaged in the 1880 Zagreb earthquake. The main nave collapsed and the individual tower was damaged beyond repair. The restoration-reconstruction of the cathedral in Neo-Gothic style was led by Hermann Bollé, bringing the cathedral to its present form. As part of that restoration, two spires 104 m (341 ft) high were raised on the western side, both of which are now in the process of being restored as part of an extensive general restoration of the cathedral. Imposing and amazing work of art, dedication and effort. Its hard to imagine how such beautiful yet huge structures were created in those days. The faith and commitment seems impregnable.

It's a beautiful cathedral, but there is no entry allowed, since it's under reconstruction ( because of the earthquake that hit Croatia in 2020). Still, it's a must see when coming to Zagreb.

June 2023: If you can avoid arriving to Zagreb old city , do yourself a favor and postpone your trip!!!
Every historical attraction and monument is currently under renovation!!!! Everything is closed!!! Including all cathedrals and museums!!! Really , I cannot understand such a stupid idea of renovating Al the attractions TOGETHER !!!! And why in the full tourism season??!!
Many streets are blocked and it looks awful!
So if you can - avoid arriving here !
Very very disappointing!

The Cathedral of Zagreb, a stunning example of Gothic architecture and a key religious landmark in the city, has a rich history and has faced various challenges over time, including recent renovations following damage from an earthquake.
Historical Background
The Cathedral of Zagreb, often referred to as the “Stepinac Cathedral,” was originally dedicated to St. Stephen King but was later known for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Velika Gospa). Its transformation into a cathedral coincided with the elevation of the Zagreb Diocese to an archdiocese by Pope Pius IX in 1852. The building has undergone several restorations and modifications throughout its history, adapting and preserving its architectural and historical integrity .
Challenges in Renovation
Following the 2020 earthquake, the Cathedral of Zagreb has faced significant renovation challenges. One of the main issues has been sourcing the appropriate types of stone for restoration. The original construction and subsequent renovations utilized various types of stone, including local limestone, sandstone, and imported Italian travertine. However, restrictions and public perception issues at the original quarry sites have made it difficult to obtain the same types of stone for current restoration efforts. These challenges are part of a larger conversation about preserving cultural memory and heritage in the face of modern constraints .
Current Status
As of the latest updates, the Cathedral of Zagreb was temporarily closed for renovation and repair work. This closure was necessary to ensure the structural integrity and preservation of the Cathedral, especially following the earthquake damage. The ongoing efforts are part of a broader initiative to restore and maintain significant historical and religious buildings in Zagreb and the surrounding regions.
Visitor Experience
Unfortunately, visitors to Zagreb during this period, including January 2024, were unable to enter the Cathedral due to these renovations. Despite this, the Cathedral remains a visually impressive structure and a symbol of Zagreb’s historical and cultural identity. Its towering spires and intricate Gothic details continue to dominate the city’s skyline, offering a glimpse into the past and a promise of future accessibility once the restoration is complete.
Overall Impression
The Cathedral of Zagreb is a testament to the city’s rich history and its commitment to preserving its architectural heritage.

An impressive piece of architecture with intricate design. As the cathedral is under major renovations, there is a huge amount of scaffolding all around. The view will be much more elegant when this work is completed

I was there this last September, and it was the wrong time to be there as the Cathedral was closed, so it's kind of a pity.
Besides there were renovation works ongoing so we couldn't enjoy the beauty of its architecture.

A lot of refurbishment going in in Zagreb nowadays. This is the first place I went to today that was closed for repairs. Sadly I will have to give it a miss.

Neogothic cathedral of Zagreb. 100-200 meters from Ban Josip Jelačić square. It is one of the symbols of Zagreb. The cathedral is damaged in the 2020. earthquake, so the renovation is going to be even longer now. It is sad, they really did come close to finnishing it (like, 2-3 years away... Believe me, that is close for our cathedral).
Nevertheless it is stil beautiful site from outside and inside. ❤️🇭🇷
The Mirogoj Cemetery, located in the heart of Zagreb, is a beautiful and serene place where several notable Croats and victims of recent regional and global conflicts are buried. It is a popular tourist attraction that can be visited by those on a short break from the city centre or for those interested in Croatian history.
Beautiful, peaceful location with a great view. When we visited, some parts were being renovated.

It's a beautiful cemetery with a very impressive facade. The towers from outside look very beautiful. The main structure got damaged during the earth quake and is worked upon.
Many important Croatians are buried here.
A very peaceful place to spend half an hour.

It is nice to visit however you cannot take great pictures for Instagram or something because it's under the construction... probably due to the earthquake in 2020. There are many fences surrounding the buildings which don't look good.

This is a beautiful cemetery to see, it’s vast and seemingly sprawls on forever, featuring gorgeous architecture and crypts to enjoy. Sadly, there is significant damage to most of the buildings within the cemetery, so they are now blocked off to pedestrian traffic to avoid injuries. We wondered for hours and love every minute of our time there.

This is an amazing place to visit in Zagreb. The gothic architecture makes this place very unique .., you have many arcades to be lost & appreciate some of the beautiful sculptures and art place along te gravestones. Unfortunately due the last year earthquake you can walk inside some of them are not safe but the cemetery is not only arcades the grounds are very beautiful too. This location is one of the love one from the bloggers to take a nice picture fr social media. Highly recommend it to visit this place
Ljubica Banic — Google review
Surprisingly, we did a quick tour in this cemetery because our guide told us that it has beautiful architecture & he was right. Although it’s unusual to visit a cemetery while on a vacation, I guess it’s worth the time away from chaotic crowd in Zagreb Old Town and city center. It’s peaceful here indeed 🤣
Jessy Q. — Google review
Said to be one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world according to national geographic. I would agree. Well it's not exceptionally old, dating to the mid 1800s, the arcades are absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately they have sustained significant damage during the earthquakes. The city has proposed finishing the arcade all the way around the cemetery, but the design for what they are proposing is absolutely ugly and does not at all match the beauty of this place.
Jan Smith — Google review
What's going on with Croatia and putting fence everywhere? Wherever is a nice tourist spot you can't really walk everywhere and it's like this also here: cemetery has nice arcades which you can't use for walk, read what's on the wall or even take a nice picture cause... They're fenced off of course! Other than that: the place it's very nice, if you have a time in Zagreb for around 1 hour of walk you should definitely visit it! It's around two kilometres from the city center, going by foot was a good choice, the route was really nice and we could see a bit different part of Zagreb. Cemetery itself it's very beautiful and definitely worth visiting!

Mirogoj Cemetery, located in Zagreb, Croatia, was established in 1876. Designed by architect Hermann Bollé, it showcases a blend of architectural styles including Neo-Renaissance, Secession, and Historicist elements. The cemetery is renowned for its beautiful arcades, chapels, and the central domed building. Mirogoj Cemetery serves as the final resting place for numerous prominent figures, including writers, artists, politicians, and scientists, making it a significant cultural and historical site in Croatia.
Mirogoj Cemetery, a place of rest,
Where loved ones come to pay their respects.
Tombstones lined up in perfect rows,
A peaceful haven for the souls of the departed.
Here you'll find the famous and the unknown,
Immortalized in stone forevermore.
Their stories etched in marble and granite,
A testament to a life that once was.
Streets lined with trees, a serene ambiance,
Where time seems to stand still for a moment.
The silence is broken by the gentle breeze,
Whispering memories of days gone by.
Mirogoj Cemetery, a place of reflection,
A place to ponder life's great mysteries.
Here we come to find solace and peace,
And to remember those we'll never forget.

Very beautiful architecture (especially first impressions on the facade), serene walk in a less visited part of the city, surrounded by green. I believe everything being fenced (takes away part of the structures and charm) is a side effect of the latest earthquakes, but still. Worth a visit, deservs a good stroll!

As of October 2022, it is still under renovation so some part is forbidden to visit.
It is beautiful and peaceful. It is very big and still operating. It may take around 1 hours to check around but depend on individual interests.
I walk from the city and I think it worth for a visit. It is extremely huge cemetery.
Very nice outlet, good prices, a bit far from the city, but definitely worth going to..

Unfortunatelly, this place missed real meaning of OUTLET. Prices are the same or in some cases even higher compare to regular stores.
There are a lot of signs "new collection"?!?
We found lower price only in OVS and Calzedonia but on severals items only with discount of 50%.
On the other hand and most likely 'cause of the prices, place is not crowded atall so you can do your shopping in piece.

Very beautiful shopping mall. It has a very unique style like nowhere else. It is a village/town with different parts of it inspired from different places on Earth.
There are lots of designer outlet stores and also a bar and restaurant - The prices are very affordable.
What I don't like is that the mall looks like it's ghosted. There are not many tourists, there were maybe 40 cars on the giant parking lot.

Driving back to Slovenia, we stopped to see the Roses Designer Outlet. It’s a beautiful place, clean and love the colors on the buildings but it has very little stores left. The ones that were opened had great deals on. Bought a super cute top from S. Oliver. It did have a small seating area restaurant open, which was nice. Great place to let the kids run around and burn off some energy!! Since it’s so empty. Open 7 days a week including the weekend from 10am to 8pm. They did have beautiful roses growing everywhere.

I can see it imagined nicely, like those Italian outlet malls, but it's half empty, don't know whether for the lack of marketing or just being at the wrong spot. There is plenty of parking and it's a nice little stroll through the mall. Stores are stocked differently, some will be full and with amazing discounts and some empty with barely anything to choose. Still if you are passing through I recommend stopping by, you just may be in for a surprise
Branko Todorovic — Google review
If you really don't have something specific to buy here, don't go here. It seemed like a good idea to build this thing, but almost all the shops have been closed and it looks like a dead town. Speakers are very poor quality, but it doesn't stop them from blasting music all over the place. A huge complex with only a couple of people visiting the place on a Saturday afternoon.
Mihovil Pavičić — Google review
The place is beautiful and clean - great.. BUT this is supposed to be an OUTLET with cheaper prices. I found things priced the same as they were in the regular store. It’s actually more affordable to wait for a sale in a certain store than drive all the way here..

Roses Designer Outlet is located just next to the border between Croatia and Slovenia. We visit it with whole family to dress kids, my wife and myself. It is a great opportunity for a stop during your long journey to Adriatics or back home before long traffic jam at the border. One can go for shopping or have a lunch break in the Roses' restaurants. The Outlet has a lot of clothes and footware options to choose from: designer shoes collection, dresses, suits, jeans or sport ware are represented here from most of the trendy brands. However one should notice that shops availability quite often depends on a season and year and some of them are closed when you just need them! Thereby I am giving only four points from five to this Designers Outlet. In any case the Roses is must to visit destination with moderate prices for disigners ware) I wish you to have fun here!
Swimming outside when its snowing was quite surreal.
There are several pools from children's with play equipment, large pool with access to outdoor areas, giant slides for the adventurous and a giant hot-tub (38°C) with a waterfall.
8€ for 3 hours so definitely worth a visit.
Best visited weekdays as can be very crowded at the weekend.

It is a very nice place to spend vacation with your family, but one "little" detail can make a huge difference. For worse. There is an area next to the outdoor swimming pool where the tiles are incredible slippery. We had chairs in that area (the only ones available) and we had to witness every 10 minutes somebody falling on the floor. From kids, to adults, even when walking very slow. One of the people got injured so bad, the ambulance came. When I discussed with the lifeguards in the area, they said its the management who dont take any action. They put an extra rug the next day, but its not enough, they should cover the entire area with such materials (or a different solution), but its not ok to have such dangerous situation and to ignore it

To much people for avaible space. They invest in some attractions, but the place is basically the same since I first visited 15 or 20 years ago. Not well maintained, You can notice dirty windows, oxidated metal, barelly repaired tales. Simply there is too much people in appartments and hotel and structure is too small.

The last time I visited Terme 3000 (the pool complex), which was about 8 years ago, nothing had changed. Outdated pools, slides that you are afraid to go down because you don't know when they were last inspected, hygiene is questionable. It's a pity, because the Terme 3000 area is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Slovenia. The lack of vision and the greed of the managers have left their mark, visible at every corner.

As a child I was there many times. We had our holiday there every year. In this time everything looked so clean and new. Now so many things where tapped and dirty. My memories to this place were soooo good, but now I won’t visit it again. This place is a great option for combination of swiming, thermal spa and waterslides for the kids and adults. It has several different waterslides to choose from and the thermal pools are indoors also, so in the case of rainy days u can still enjoy thermal spa activities. We were here at sunny day for a 3 hour swiming activities, prices were a bit high in comparison to other thermal spas in the region but honestly the waterslides are much better and bigger,so overall price difference is acceptable. The food at outdoor grill was good and delicious and prices were not too high.

Superb, the local Eiffel tower delivers more than one expets. And the entrance fee is quite cheap. The view from it is breathtaking. The only thing I DIDN'T like AT ALL, was the opening time. The sunset on this hilltop is breathtaking and these guys choose to close at 19.00 pm!!! They really SHOULD reconsider their opening time to be at least until sunset. Because it really is on ANOTHER LEVEL. They simply close too soon. Big mistake. I'd pay double for a sunset form the top of the tower. Honestly.

A fantastic panorama tower with beautiful views all around and situated in an area of nice little villages. Lots of vineyards and farms in this villages have some tourist offerings. I'm afraid of heights and i really LIKED it!
A panorama tower on an area of low hills of "Lendavske Gorice" (Rolling hills of Lendava), phah, what can you see? A beautiful countryside, beautiful villages, 4 (FOUR) different countries at the same time - Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and Austria. There are not a lot of panoramic points with that in their repertoire, i think. The ground floor has a shop with local culinary specialties and you can taste quality wines and juices. And of course a "normal" bar offering.
The tower is near the eastern-most city of Slovenia, Lendava, so if you are situated there for a few days, you can even walk here. Though there is a huge parking area under the tower, so that should not be a problem.

The place itself is great. Lots of pools, slides, etc outside and inside, for kids and adults. It is a bit of a maze to access every place.
I just want to highligh the poor quality of the food services.
Few options, cash only, and nearly 1h wait for 1 of the 3 items on the menu (all of them fried meat wirh fries).
We were patient enough to wait. But many people sit and then left aftet waiting just forbthe waitress to take their orders.

So many different pools, good for every age! We had a blast and could spend days there. Food felt only slightly more expensive than outside the pool. My only “bad” thing was the rules for the slides. We respected them, but my children who could go on MUCH larger and more intense slides at other water parks were extremely disappointed to not be allowed on the bigger slides. There were so many other activities for them to do that they got distracted soon enough.

I would give 5 stars, but due to the fact that disabled people must pay the full price for entrance, I will give just 3 stars. Disabled individuals should have a discount or even free entrance. For kids, it's very good; you can spend the whole day here. Prices for food and drinks are okay. Maybe I will be back with kids if they offer a discount for disabled people.
And will add this also: if you go out, you cant get back, only if you pay again.

The place is in horrible state. Dirty pools, mould, alga, broken tiles. It clearly shows the lack of cleanliness. I’m surprised that this place passed the Health and Safety standards. The attached photos speak for themselves so dear Zalakaros thermal spa headoffice and the arrogant unprofessional person who manages the review responses! If you would take just half of the effort to sort out these serious issues at your place instead of replying unprofessionally and sarcastically to the customers’ negative feedbacks, your business would bloom as I noticed that you clearly cannot digest any criticism!
Update:
Dear ANONYMOUS person of Zalakaros Spa, I wouldn’t be so proud of the shocking state of your place if I were you! Guests/customers are not blind, you know!

A facility with thermal and also medical waters. The facility is huge with several pools, mostly with thermal waters, but some also with higher concentrations considered as medical. There is also some salt water pools. The attendants are mostly helpful, although they can get a bit less so if one doesn’t even try to speak Hungarian. I also took some therapies: the lymph drainage was unconventional but ok. The medical massage was a disaster and I was happy when It was finally over and not much damage was done. It was supposed to be an hour however it was only half an hour. The lady was simply disinterested and i doubt I ever had a worse massage in my life. My suggestion is to leave the therapies be. They are definitely not helpful, if not outright dangerous. Pity. The Park Inn hotel had a connecting bridge from the hotel to the facility which is quite convenient. This is highly recommended to people suffering pain as i think these waters can indeed alleviate many of the pains.

There is no dedicated parking so park either at the Tourist centre (free of charge) or at the MenDan Spa. It makes sense to pay for the premium thermal spa, because this way you get access to the Aqua park and to the less crowded thermal pools with free sunbeds. Otherwise, you pay the basic package and you pay for the sunbed and it is more expensive and you get less for your money. To access the thermal pools turn right immediately at the tills, before you leave the reception. There is a separate gate of you look to the right.
There is a very decent cafe next to the Adventure pool, so no need to bother with sandwiches.

We only visited the interior of the spa. The area offers numerous facilities for the whole family, from slides, baby parties, playrooms and climbing frames, saunas for children and adults, infra-red deckchairs, salt room and salt sandbox, and sulfur baths. The restaurant mainly offers fast food. The facility would benefit from renovation, at least as far as the somewhat rusty fences and old window frames are concerned, and certainly the lighting - it is quite dark throughout.
A concert took place inside, so the only eyecandy for us, was the beautiful exterior of this church.

Beautiful Catholic Church. Holy mass every morning at 7.30-8.00 a. M. Saturday evening at 19.00 o'clock clock. Sunday at 9 am and 10.30 am. All this in the summer season. Different in the winter. Every Wednesday evening at 8.pm great organ concert in the summer time.
Large lake featuring warm waters for alleged health benefits & an indoor/outdoor spa with services.
This is a lovely thermal lake which also is huge. Everyone gets an armband that also gives you a personal locker for your belongings. Note that you can not pick any locker you have to blip the armband at the screen when entering the locker room and then you are assigned a locker.
I recommend going around the lake to the "relax" section where there are a lot fewer people and a much more calm setting. The lake is quite warm so do not expect to get cooled down on a warm summer day.

The staff 1 star (if you are foreigner)
The communication was complicated with the staff since they don’t speak English, and that’s understandable even tho it is a very touristic place and the signs inside are all in English.
However when they tried to buy other tickets they spoke in Hungarian and realized we didn’t speak at all, one person started to yell at us and was obvious she was complaining while her colleague was laughing loud, she called one person to speak to us while they kept having this XENOPHOBIC behavior for some minutes.
Its a paradox you go to a place to relax and the staff are rude and disrespectful.

Honestly I thought this was going to be gross and super packed with people. But it was very relaxing and therapeutic. The Lake is gigantic and there enough space to spread out in the water. There are different depths and parts to the spa as well. There is a super deep part and then there are sulfur baths. Spent most of my time in the outside lake part and on the sun chairs. You pay and get a wrist band that tracks you. Different pricing for how long you want to stay.

A good experience in line with expectations.
Would be so much better if kids pool had thermal water, and not copious amounts of chlorine that lead to red swollen eyes.

Lovely warm lake, swam in January in it. The complex is old, especially inside of bathing area. Not clearly indicated connection door between internal area with external (if you want to swim, and not walk by stairs).
Cafe shop is poor, expensive and I disliked it totally, but this was the only option.
Don't wear silver jewerly, it would change color!

A well organized spa with medical and healing waters. There is place to buy food and also rent ‘floaters’ which I recommend since the lake can be rather deep. I did not take any therapies but various one are available. The staff is very helpful! I realized I had left my mobile phone behind as soon as I left the place, and they had already found it! Amazing! Highly recommendable to anyone wishing to try natural healing waters.

Beautiful natural warmwaterlake to spend quality time and relax in the thermal lake or laying at a free deck chair. Dayticket costs 6000K (20€), there are also tickets for 3h (3500K) and 4h (4300K). You can eat inside the park or leave to eat outside and return.

A very well kept secret for rheumatology illnesses, muscle and nerve issues, injuries or just soul and relaxing searching purposes. A little heaven. I stayed in Heviz in a little private Pension, for a week. Yes, things might be not hypermodern and a bit out of date...BUT...it is therefore that things are still very much affordable for everyone ( not only well off people) and it serves every inch the purpose. There is an Medical centre and treatment centre at the slake...and everyone is friendly, professional and happy to help. Most people speak German, English and they are very professional . I had massages . I will definitely return.

Our host at our Airbnb, Veronica, kindly gave us two tickets for cheaper entry to the baths. There are loungers everywhere but finding a free one is a bit of a challenge. The water is very warm, about 32—35°C in summer. My daughter swam 2km, I just stayed at the edge; nearly everyone has a float in the water. The cafe was winding down so our chips were nearly cold which was very disappointing. Cafe closed at 6pm; we were there at 5pm so why cold food an hour before closing?
Festetics Palace is a magnificent baroque-style palace showcasing 18th and 19th-century aristocratic rooms. The white 100-room palace was built in 1745 and later extended with two wings. Its south wing now houses the Helikon Palace Museum, featuring 18 splendid rooms and the Helikon Library, home to an impressive collection of over 90,000 volumes and exquisite carved furniture.
A beautiful and well maintained castle. We hired a tour guide and had more than one hour tour in which a lot of interesting information was shared with us about the cake y and the family. I will bring my girls here next time as they love castles and go without the tour, in sure it will be good enough for them.
I do but recommend going up the tour, it is but really worth the extra charge nor the bird garden, didn't see anything too interesting there.

Simply wow! I really can't understand why this palace is not all that know abroad as other palaces, because it's really a little gem that should be visited MORE for sure! I didn't visit it internally because I didn't have time, but externally it's just wonderful, especially thanks to its gardens! The palace and gardens are both very well kept and well cared for

Fantastic place and very well kept. If you visit the castle and their other exhibits, it could be a whole day program. Restaurants right by the entrances to be avoided.

The castle is in excellent condition. It's worth seeing. The only bad thing is that you cannot tour the castle on your own, and the guided tour is only in Hungarian. We didn't like that. We had to follow the pace of the group and the guide in a language we don't know. The library is impressive. The park around the palace is beautiful. Most museums close at 4 p.m., so we didn't have time to visit them all. Another big minus in Hungary is that almost no one speaks English. We did not manage to find out where to buy souvenirs.

An interesting palace with breath taking decorations, fairnachers, pictures and rich history. The palace radiates an impressive but quiet power. There is a very beautiful view from the main tower. After visiting the palace you can enjoy yourself from the nice park around it.

The palace’s both exterior and interior are beautiful. The visit to the palace is on full hour, and happens on each hour. The only downside is that the guide tour was on Hungarian so we didn’t understand a word, but there were English and German explanations near exhibitions so you can read about them. Considering we visited the palace in February, it was not crowded and we didn’t need to buy tickets in advance. There was a lot of people there, so I wouldn’t know if the same applies to sunny days.

Really decently priced to see everything here, if you wish to see everything I would give it a full day, but just the palace and one exhibit still took about 2 to 3 hours, pretty gardens to sit in which are free of charge as well. DSLR Photography or videography inside the palace requires, 1400 HUF extra, really recommend

I had a fantastic time at the Festetics Palace in Hungary. This beautiful palace is situated near Lake Balaton, making it a great destination for travelers. The palace has plenty to offer for younger visitors, with lots of interesting things to see and do. There are also many restaurants and a well-designed center nearby that are definitely worth checking out. Overall, the Festetics Palace is a fantastic place to visit in Hungary.

Children can buy refreshments and some semi-precious stones there too.

One of the best museum experiences in Hungary. This museum leads into the world of volcanoes through a symbolic journey from underground to the top of the building. Each room shows a different aspect, with great interactive tools, the final room opens up to the volcanic Ság hill. Worth the price, especially with guidance. Nice merch in the museum shop.

Great castle to visit when you are around .entrance fee of 2500 for adults .dogs are allowed. Be aware that you have to go a few hundred meters on a steep climb by foot .no cars allowed in any case . There where lots of people but still you had enough place to take some nice pictures . Informational panels are also in english .the arrow shooting show is in hungarian , but that doesn't bother .

It is more for children and so for families, than a couple's trip.
At the ticket office we were asked if we wanted to join a tour, after we agreed, we were told to pay...1000 ft/ adult, 500 ft / kid. If you have the money to spend, go for it, but it's not a must. (The guide speaks good English, German for sure).
The new big renovation didn't add so much to it for us, as it's basically showing us how the castle developed over the centuries over and over again. The movie was good, but the exhibition of pots could gave been made in a more imaginative way.
And the food options are really limited (chimney cake and bread with toppings).
Wear comfortable shoes for the way up.

Incredible castle! If I had kids I would bring them here as often as possible. My dogs loved it! So cool! Horses are beautiful. The grounds are so nice and views are amazing. It’s a nice walk up, not too hard.
Winding, 300m underground limestone cave system navigable by boat along a subterranean lake.
Great place! I never think that we can boat in a cave. Although this park closed at 4 pm, the ticket office closed at 2:30 pm roughly. The closing time depends on the crowd of visitors. When you arrived, the first thing is to buy the ticket, and arrange your following thing according to the entry time.

Great little cave with a lake inside. The tour and the cave is a little basic but the underground lake makes up for it. You can drink from the lake as it is the cleanest water in the country (even cleaner than tap water) and it taste great and very refreshing. You can also ride a boat on your own and its a great fun going trough tight places.

I loved this place Thanks god it wasn't a big queue so it didn't take long to catch a boat. The cave and the water is amazing, clear and warm as well. In some corners you have to bend down because the place is so narrow. The price is not high either.

Nice cave with boat rides in the cave tunnels. I recommend visiting during weekdays from 9:30 to 16:00 you can also purchase tickets online(preferably).
in the boat you can ride only 2 adults an perhaps a toddler max cap 200kg in the boat.

It's a fun experience but don't expect too much. the cave is nice but not amazing. The water is clear and blue and makes for nice pictures. There is nothing scary or adventurous, and it is good gor all ages. I would recommend stopping by if in the area. After the cave I recommend spending 10 min walking to the duck / fish pond in the town center.

This is one of the most interesting places we visited. The children were delighted. The boat ride takes 10-15 minutes. It's warm in the cave, so leave your winter jackets in the car :) If you are claustrophobic, do not enter the cave. The lake is crystal clear. The museum is small, but interesting. Recommendations!!!

Would give five stars for the unique beauty that this natural wonder offers, but the experience was so short, that we could hardly enjoy it. Usually people spend 1h 30min (according to the lady at ticket office), for us it took approx 30 min. The exhibition was more or less interesting too, but ofcourse we were expecting to spend more time in the cave, sailing on the boat. It was a little bit of disappointment, when in less than 10 min we finished our lake ride. No one told us to sail a little bit slower, although due to the narrow corridors you can't sail fast at all, still we were too fast and finished early. So for those of you who are planning to visit, I can assure you that it is truly amazing and you should definitely go, BUT take your time, enjoy the exhibition, once you get in the boat sail slow, very slow, as there is nothing special waiting for you at the end of the road. You will be sailing only for approx 180 metres, so do it slowly and enjoy 😁
Zs?ka D — Google review
Definitely worth a visit! Before going down into the caves, you will have a guided tour through a little museum, which is very quaint. Unfortunately, English speakers were not catered for, so I had to translate for my partner.
That is the least important part of the tour for me - the highlight is of course getting to go down into the cave. We loved our ride, it’s very interactive but not without risk. Be careful down there, especially with other people bumping into you. We got stuck behind a really slow old man which was a bit annoying, but we could have queued for another go.
In the summer there were a number of little shops outside, including fresh traditional lángos, so you don’t have to worry about planning ahead for food!
Parking is a bit complicated if you don’t have coins. Took me about 15 minutes to register for the parking system (app or text) and all the instructions are in Hungarian. I suggest downloading and setting up the app beforehand as it will work across Hungary for parking. There are a tonne of apps to be found online, which can be confusing.
Make sure you buy tickets in advance online as they sell out!

This is the most underrated hidden gem of Hungary. I don't know how I found out on the internet but once i did i knew i had to go there
It was AMAZING. 75 steps, underground cave, a boat ride where you self navigate for 200m - do it slowly, avoid overhead, be mesmerized by the blue-green crystal clear mineral waters.
The info section was ALSO great - in English and Hungarian and it even had a make believe cave you could crawl thru. I think it was was kids - as a 52 year old slightly fat kid, i only managed a meter before deciding not to :-)
It was not busy at all but i was told that it gets super busy june-sep
For parking, take some forint coins for the parking meter - i fed in 300 forint ...
Don't miss this one

Very nice and basic place. Most of them don’t speak English. Had to wait almost 2 hours to enter but the tour guide speaks only Hungarian ! So we asked to pass the tour and go directly to the boat where we were rowing by ourselves and that was great experience in a cave with clear water and it was fun, easy and so enjoyable. The only thing is that was no need for all that waiting time 🥲. Still recommending everyone to visit. ❤️

WOW what an amazing experience. If you are travelling in Hungary then do not miss out on this activity. Staff are very friendly, helpful and informative. In busy season I would prebook tickets.

At first i couldn’t believe there was a natural cave surrounding the city but what a fun experience!
I went with my two friends and we had such a blast. When you first go in you can read a little bit about the history of the place, which is nice, but the best part was actually going down to the cave and paddling the boat around in the clear blue water. Definitely recommend this place!
Be careful not to hit your head on the rocks though!

Sighting Sarah — Google review
It's good but I expected better. Let me explain the three stars. You have to book in advance the tour, the thing is when booking there are no tours available in English and you need to send them an email to have a tour for a group of just English speaker so quite complicated in the process. When you are with the tour guide at least you can go on you own and basically completely ignore the guide (they speak Hungarian) and just go look at the exhibition (it's written in English) or use audio-guide you only have to be with the group if you want to see the 10min film (in Hungarian no subtitles) and then you can go down to the attraction where you will ride a boat inside the cave for 10min. Unfortunately for this part we had to wait at least 30min to get onto the boat and they were other tourist being pressy behind our boat (not the organisation fault just the other tourists wanting to finish fast for certain reasons).
So overall the exhibition is OK not bad but not extraordinary also and the boat ride is nice but would be much nicer if it was longer and less "crowded" and not feel in a "traffic jam". Also in the website the 700meters of walking inside the cave is just basically the waiting area before the boat ride don't be fooled.
Good experience, too high expectations.

Great natural cave to explore by foot and by boat on a short trip at the end. Exhibition was informative about the history of the cave and the geologic history as well. It's a really beautiful place to visit, but you need to keep a few things in mind.
Bathing in the water is not allowed, the boat trip is only one trip per person and takes a maximum of 10 minutes, if you are claustrophobic it is not a good place for you as some places can be quite small, I guided myself through the place because there was no guide in English, there are some descriptions and information in English and it is possible to download audios but if you do not have your own Internet you will not have access.

I recently had a terrible experience at the local thermal water and spa facility. From the moment I arrived, I was met with unprofessional and rude staff. I stood at the reception desk for 10 minutes while the workers complained about their work life to each other, completely ignoring me.
To make matters worse, there was no light in the reception area, which was very concerning and uninviting. When I finally got the attention of the lady at the desk, she asked her colleague to help me as she continued gossiping.
I was shocked to find out that I couldn't buy a day pass for the facility. Instead, I was told that I had to purchase a 5 or 10-day pass. This is completely unacceptable, as I only wanted to use the facility for one day. I was so frustrated and disappointed that I left without even using the spa.
It's outrageous that the facility has three people working at the reception desk, yet they can't even turn on the lights to make the area more welcoming. Furthermore, denying customers the option to purchase a single day pass is unacceptable. I would not recommend this facility to anyone and suggest they go elsewhere for a better experience

It is a nice place but has some small things that ruins it. Just like the gates everywhere, you have to get trough 2 to get from inside to outside. I understand it has to do with counting how many people are where, but there were security guards too, you can give a 10 cent counter in their hands....
A lot of things outside need a renovation.
The bath for small kids is extremely separated from the others.

Your more modern than average Health Spa.
Only visited the Thermal part, which is built as a modern pool area, with its natural light and air, but sadly with all the noise also.
You are tortured with the normal Fidesz-propaganda with the TV on all the time that gives a background-noise, but not audible to understand.
At least it has Type2-charging outside.

The Kaposvar Spa is a complex of thermal baths, saunas, massage facilities, outdoor pools, jacuzzis, shallow pools for kids, a few not-too tall slides, and a beach. It has a buffet inside where you can purchase drinks, sandwiches, and in the summer season when the open air pools are working there are several food facilities outside serving burgers, hot dog, simple dishes.
The place is not pricy, even on an average Hungarian budget. If you are from the West of Europe, or the U.S. you will find it an excellent deal: entrance fees for a full day are around 8 USD, 6 EUR, or 5 GBP. Food items are usually around 1,5-3 GBP. There is also a shop selling bathing suits, towels, swimming goggles, etc. in case you have left anything at home.
The place is well staffed. Members of staff speak some level of English and German in general, and they are polite, not intrusive.

The jewel of not only Hungary, but all of Central Europe. Founded in 1055, the abbey has seen a lot of turbulent and peaceful history. What makes this abbey so unbelievable is its dramatic setting, perched atop a vista that looks all over Lake Balaton. Perhaps, this is one of the most beautiful sites I’ve seen in all of Europe. At least, one of the most breathtaking.
In addition, Tihany is known for its lavender products as there are lavender fields everywhere. They even sell lavender Gin! (And lavender tonic).

Nice view. It was an island in the medieval times before became an peninsula. This process still not ended up completely, thats why you can see some swamp and reed where it joins to the mainland. You must take a walk toward Óvár into the caves of the monks if you want to catch the best view to the peninsula.

We spent 6 hours there with two kids. It was a cloudy day with short spring showers, but there are plenty of shady places with branches as well if you come on a sunny day. Good for a whole day with lunch in place for a family. Don't rush. Sit down and let the place impress you!

All of the ethical cons for zoos aside, this one has a particularly terrible ratio of employees and customers. There should definitely be at least one person with sheeps, forbidding terrible behavior (chasing animals with sticks, throwing object at them etc.) and teaching proper interactions with animals. The cage for guinea pigs is too small in size for all of the piggies, not to mention that you can't pet these naturally cuddly animals. While I understand they keep them as food for their reptiles, GPs still deserve to live in a nice, well-put together environment.
The little staff that they do have speak rather poor english, but are very very kind and patient.

You have options for food, coffee, plenty of toilets on your way.
Gergo Bognar (Russki) — Google review
We loved this Zoo. The animals, the nice shady walks and the whole experience. We had to come twice to see it all and make most of the playgrounds too.
Rita — Google review
This is a very nice ZOO, great enclosures for animals. Enough stalls with refreshment. There is also a dinopark and I must say it's the nicest one I've seen so far. The only thing is they don't give/sell any ZOO maps, there are just boards with them inside.
Pozde Pozde — Google review
It is a super Zoo, everyone will find something interesting, especially kids 😊
I only give 4 because the main restaurant is of complete low quality. The worst food I have eaten for a long time in a restaurant.

Veszprém, Kittenberger Kálmán u. 17, 8200, Hungary
Historic castle district featuring medieval-era structures, an old town square, museums & a chapel.
This year (2023) Veszprém is the cultural capital of Europe. Assuring a really colorful cultural and gastronomical programs. Prepared for this plentitude of events the old part of the city is renovated carefully giving a nice experience for travelers who like historical walks in small cities around the lake Balaton.

Nice place to visit if you are in the city.

My pics are so ugly but Veszprém is such a hidden masterpiece of Hungary. I rarely see Veszpém in the list of beautiful cities in Hungary to visit on the Internet but its beauty with nature and lovely architecture can blow your mind.
Definitely worth a 2-day visit because the vibe there is suitable for relaxing.

It was under construction, so I couldnt see anything, so I cant give it a max star, because i couldnt see it :))

This is the focal point of the town. Situated atop a hill, you get great views of the surrounding areas. There are some gorgeous buildings around, moat of them still owned by the church. Well worth a visit.

Lovely castle hill. Romantic old streets, with authentic historical buildings. PLUS: You can enjoy the absolute unique, beautiful vista from the old fire tower..
Peter Agoston (Petros The Musician) — Google review
I love this place, a quiet and picturesque, historic castle district of Veszprém. The buildings are mostly beautifully renovated, the streets are kept tidy. I'd love to see more places to sit here with a coffee and a biscuit...
fargobryce — Google review
Historic place, part of the world heritage. Since the founding of the state, the seat of the rulers, burial monuments in the original early Christian churches, royal tombs. It is the scene of many traditional cultural events and exhibitions.
Here you will find the Episcopal Palace and the institutions of the Hungarian Catholic Church.
From here you can access Mount Calvary to the Staties, at the end of which is the same statue of Christ as Rio de Janeiro.
Zoltán Sánta — Google review
A real nice place as if you are in the middle ages, and excellent panoramic views

This castle was a nice suprise. An awesome view from the Castle and from the hill next to it.
The Siofok Water Tower, located in the city center, is a historic structure that provides unrestricted views of both the town and countryside. Upon purchasing a ticket at the entrance, visitors can ascend to the top via one of several lifts and enjoy coffee and cake at the cafe before proceeding up some additional steps to take in panoramic views from atop this unique rotating tower. Overall, it's an intriguing building that offers more than expected for those seeking breathtaking vistas.
We got free tickets, because I am a wheelchair user and my brother, because he was my escort. Very nice and helpful staff.
We were able to see only the first floor, but it was interesting.
Its a shame the descriptions of the people there were just in Hungarian.
Otherwise a great sight to see :)

Lovely place. Nice alpine slope train around. It is very short ride but still great. Trail from ticket office to the sphere is a combo price and it s like 3 minutes walking with some activities for kids written in Hungarian so it s not very useful

Great views, decent-priced drinks. And you can open some windows for a better picture. Try to come for the sunset!
Max Dynin — Google review
Nice tower, not many people, the view is nice but not amazing.
Lion Milutin — Google review
Was far better when the revolving floor was functioning. Where you could have a drink and have a 360 view from your seat. Now it's just a museum which would have been better situated in a ground building. Should have left it as it was..

Really nice plaza!
A tourist information office is directly below the tower. Tower was renovated this year to celebrate the 100 years. Came on the 2nd weekend of October and coincidentally there was a festival/fair with lots of food stands and live music. Close to the shopping mall and some nice restaurants around it. You can walk around the park that is in front.
Kristel S. — Google review
The tower is an interesting building and I dare to say it offers more than I had expected. You must buy a ticket at the entrance, then take one of the lifts that bring you up and just enjoy your coffee and cake in the cafe at the top. There you can climb some more steps and enjoy the view and still have your treat of coffee there. The top of the tower is turning around slowly. Really amazing!

One star is only for the beautiful sunset over Siófok that we managed to see during our visit. Totally overpriced and the staff that works there turned out to be absolutely unfriendly and unpleasant: we had some misunderstanding because she didn't speak English well. Weird thing considering that it is a tourist attraction that is visited not only by Hungarian-speaking people
Veronika Köhl — Google review
Very central lookout point to see Siófok and the lake from a distance. It costs some to get in, but there's a little cafe and a spinning seated, windowed area at the top to relax and enjoy the view. One stair level down from the cafe is a terrace with open air view and walking space to see everything without windows.

Lovely Palce, with Spirit... I love this Place, Siófok, Balaton... I was here 3 Times, and i will be back here for sure!
Hundreds of statues & paintings in a 20th-century fantasy castle with towers & sculpture garden.
A very nice place. Filled with sculptures and paintings. Also a nice view of the city. I bet in the summer is even nicer with all the gardens green.
Definitely should visit.
Traian Ungureanu — Google review
The building is wonderful achievement of architecture. The gardens are also very relaxing. The art was not in line with our tastes, too heavy paintings, sculpture also massive, but the collection was impressive nonetheless. No English panels or info, you have to go online. Ticket a bit expensive.

The castle was built by Jenő Bory (1879-1959).
Unfortunately, the manor house was closed, so many of us who wanted to see it stayed in front of the otherwise nicely decorated fence. However, the statues and sculptures that I saw from the outside arouse curiosity. these are definitely objects worth seeing. Next time.
Bogdan Marcelan — Google review
A delightful castle, built by one man. It is well maintained, a beautiful piece of architectural marvel. Lots of stairs up and down but easy to walk around. We spent an hour in a slow pace and were able to see everything.

A very nice attraction out of Budapest. The castle is worth to visit. A short train ride around 45-50 minutes from Budapest. The city itself is very nice. Once you reach the train station, buy the bus ticket from the machine for discounted price or you can also buy from the driver using cash for 400 forints per ticket. Take any bus that’s going to the castle such as bus number 32 and the bus stop is just outside the train station. The castle is pretty nice, beautifully designed and some interesting stuff to see inside the castle. Recommended if you want to see something outside of Budapest.

Nice to see from behind the fence, but it was closed for days over new year - notice was on piece of paper on the front gate - they do not update google maps so the 25 minut drive there was a waste.

Been to alot of castles and this is one is my favourite. so unique and you can see it was built and maintained with love. don't miss it!

The biggest highlight in town, the castle does not disappoint. For 2000 Huf per person its definitely worth it. The lady gave us a folder with a description of the entire museum/castle in English. The outdoor garden is nice and the inside is full of artwork and sculptures. The highlight is the courtyard in the back with many sculptures and the towers with views overlooking Szekesfehervar.
Paul Heller — Google review
A very interesting and exciting castle, full of sculptures, paintings and family photos. Very imaginative elements, a veritable cavalcade of zigzag entrances, balconies and terraces. Not an everyday sight.
Zezima — Google review
Magical! The grounds and building are both interesting and beautiful. Great location for taking photos or a photo shoot. Hard to believe it’s only 100 years old since the experience transports you to much older times.
Highly recommend visiting. You can easily meander about and lose track of time. The benches in the courtyard and throughout the grounds are a nice feature.

It is one the most beautiful places I've ever visited here at Székesfehérvár. Although it has a 2500 entrance for those who haven't had a discount it was worth it by the way. The place has so many paintings that will bring you back to the wonderful decade before. The scenery above the castle 🏰 was amazing and mesmerized me because the overlooking and houses, plantation and trees around there. I'm happy to be there and planning to come back soon🥰

Nice castle. Interesting for a short sightseeing. Many paintings. Great view from the top.
This is a place with stories. The story is about seriousness and hard work, and also about love and family affection. It is the rise and fall of a family in the long history.
Enormous bronze statue of a falconlike bird that was a totem of medieval clans in the region.
Panoramic view of Tatabanya and surrounding area. Nice place for a walk while learning this was historically used cave by our ancestors many thousands of years ago.

Massive monument and national symbol, it's a must see if you are in the area. The views on the city underneath from the cliffs just below are stunning. Be sure to take good walking shoes as most of the nearby walking trails are uneven. There are a couple mobile bistros on the way to the monument, next to the parking lot (which does get busy.)

The Turul is a mythical bird of prey and a national symbol of Hungarians. The massive monument overlooks the surrounding countryside. Nice walking paths and also a great cave to explore.

Amazing views, lots to see and do! Few people know that there is a way to walk up here from the city center. Starting out from roughly in line with the city library, there is safe crossing over Route 1 and onto a marked path with stairs! Great workout too! Once up, you have options to see the Turul monument, but close by there is two other attractions: the Szelim cave and a little further down a superb lookout for even more breathtaking views. It's a great place to visit with kids, there are a lot of creatures to see in the forest (stag beatles are commonly found here).

A very impressive monument with a great view over Tatabanya. The cafe was shut at the time we went so I can't comment on it. We also visited at night and the monument looks really impressive when lit up. I recommend a visit if you are passing.

Coming from the train station, there's a straightforward way to get on foot to the bottom of the hill (which Maps doesn't give you). Then, you'll have to climb up many set of stairs, difficult but enjoyable, especially once you reach the top and the big bird sculpture! A 180-view on a clear day is always a nice thing. You can't really sit just in front, as the terrain is not good for it, nor there are benches, plus there's always people coming and going. Regardless, I would recommend going if in the area.

My family and I had a great time hiking around here and were able to see the largest bronze Turul bird in Europe? The falcon has a gilded crown on its head

Very exclusive place in a beautiful environment. The hosts are delightful and the food is great. Their vine is great but the cognac delicious. Looking forward to taste their own gin.
