For hikers, Plitvice Lakes National Park offers a variety of trails that wind through alpine forests and meadows, past sparkling lakes and waterfalls. The park also contains 16 freshwater lakes that are popular for rafting and kayaking. The park was the site of armed confrontation during Croatia's war of independence in the early 1990s, but has since been renovated as a source of economic wealth for the region. Today, visitors can explore hiking trails and enjoy beautiful natural scenery.
One of the most majestic places I have visited in my life, the winter landscape is beautiful, as well as the paths to walk for hours with a different landscape every 3 meters.
The waterfalls are incredible and it is a super good space to go with pets and be there for at least 3 or 4 hours touring the place.
The staff was very friendly

This is without a doubt the best place I have ever been. Nature is wonderful, here you can see its pure beauty. The place is fantastic, the staff is helpful, there are small restaurants, gift shops, restrooms in the park. The boat fee is included in the entrance fee. I recommend route C, which is not challenging, the total distance is eight kilometers, with a negligible elevation gain. Cool buses will take you back to the main entrance at the end of the visit. 5*

The lakes were simply fantastic, the price is worth the visit, but I recommend mixing up the paths. We were there when the park opened, after the tour and going back to the entrance area we were very glad we went at 7 am.. the place was crowded.. a lot of tourists really. I recommend going as early as you can, if you want to visit calmly and are not too fond of crowds.
Marina Perin — Google review
Absolutely Stunning creation of Nature!! The hike is beautiful and offers wonderful views. The park has 2 entrances and both entrances have 4 routes to choose from. We entered from entrance 2 and did route H which is quite similar to route C from entrance 1, it is almost 9kms and requires 4 - 6 hours. In the peak season, a ticket costs 40 Euro for an adult and it’s better to buy tickets in advance. Ticket price includes the bus and boat ride.
Trail is well maintained and has clear directions as per routes. It was a bit crowded due to summer vacation, so try going as early as possible in the morning.
Wear comfortable shoes, hiking shoes are recommended though. Carry enough water and some snacks, though you can also buy inside the park.
Definitely worth a visit!!

A very very beautiful national park. Worth visiting.
Better to go early in the morning or afternoon to see the water color as aqua blue/green. By evening since the sun starts setting in the west, it won't reflect on water and may miss the beauty of this magical place.
Trek route C or H is best as it covers both lower and upper lakes. There are beautiful waterfalls in the upper lakes. It will take a minimum of 6 hrs to cover this route.

It had poured down rain all night and morning, so I delayed entering the park until late morning. The guide suggested which trails to take for a good half-day excursion. I really don't think you can go wrong. So beautiful!

From the desk where you buy tickets through the park and back to the souvenir shop - great experience. Kind staff, positive energy.
All accommodation that is in the park is exquisite and great for welcoming guests for years to come.
Nature is splendid and breathtaking. We have treasure that we must preserve.
I'm always happy to come back here.

I can imagine it gets crowded in the summer but on a rainy day in April is was empty, calm, misty and incredibly beautiful. The park itself is intelligently set up, with well-maintained paths and platforms that swirl in-between and right up to the waterfalls without clashing with the landscape. In fact, the park seems to be a model of how to organize such a site in ways which make it ecologically responsible, easily accessible for a lot of people, with well thought out branching paths, sufficient rest stops that are discreetly integrated in the setting and plenty of (silent) boats/shuttles.

It is a beautiful natural park. The views are just amazing! It has very colourful landscapes and lakes. It is definitely worth the visit and to spare a lot of time. Unfortunately I did not had the opportunity to camp for a longer time but now have seeing what I have there, I’d definitely think about staying more time in a next opportunity. I went as couple and during summer which is allegedly the best time to see the crystals on the water reflected by the sunlight.

Beautiful national park. There is a bus that goes directly from Zagreb to the park, it takes approximate 2hrs and 15 minutes . I strongly recommend to purchase the tickets online in advance. It is good to spend at least 6 hours walking around.

Wonderful park. We were lucky to find an amazing sunny weather after the heavy rain of the days before. I suggest to follow the H path from entrance 2. Come early in the morning (we enter at 9am) to fully enjoy the experience without annoying crowd.

Spectacular! The park and the lakes are the Moseley amazing lakes I've ever seen. The color is unreal, the waterfall are stunning. The park is crowded, even early in the morning but very organized. Attention that you also need to pay for parking separately.
Yuval Mohl — Google review
Beautiful. There are several hike options but it can get very busy during the holiday season, even in early September. The trails are quite narrow and you could get held up if one person stops to take pictures.
The cafeterias within the National Park do not offer much choice, especially if you are a vegetarian.
Gopika Avanoor — Google review
I’d like to give this place 5 stars just based off its incredible beauty. But, the park has a bit of a bad design for being able to see it without being overcrowded, which the design and setup of the park causes. There’s basically one narrow boardwalk through the various levels of the lakes, which have no railing. So you really can’t stop anywhere and just take in the view or get pictures that aren’t horribly rushed. They also have a ferry system that appears to be badly overwhelmed with extremely long lines (we didn’t take it because of those lines). Other than that, this park is absolutely gorgeous. Crystal clear blue/green/turquoise waters everywhere. Many waterfalls and overflows and lush green trees. Just absolutely picturesque. But other than that boardwalk, there’s not really much else to see or do, no other trails or anything. There is also timed entry, so either purchase tickets beforehand, or be prepared to wait until the next time available. All in all, if you’re in Croatia, you should definitely go check out this park. Crowds notwithstanding, it’s still a pretty cool place and extremely beautiful.

This is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. We went here at winter time and the price for the entry was only 10 euro per person, kinds were free since they were 5 and 6. The beauty of the lake and waterfalls can not be described with words. We are looking forward to see it in all season.

The best, must-visit spot of Croatia. The landscapes this park offers are breathtaking. I recommend trail C, and if you have plenty of time, K seems like a great choice too.
Gyuvin K. — Google review
One of the most beautiful places on the earth!! Definitely recommended to take the maximum possible route. We took route C and 20k steps were worth it. Check the weather forecast before planning the visit. But it surely will be beautiful in all the seasons.

Wonderful place for hikes and be in oneness with mother earth. Unbelievably serene and mind-blowing.
Upper lakes are less crowded and quiet while the lower ones are thriving with tourists. Plan your day and start early to enjoy the serenity of the park.
Raghunath N — Google review
I split the trip into two days - one day for the upper and one for the lower lakes. I highly recommend splitting it up. I also did the end of day and early day to avoid the crowds which was perfect. This is truly a magical place with just breathtaking scenery.
H. Rai — Google review
The most beautiful part is the first lake plus the overview of the waterfalls. The rest of the park is nice but for what it is, it's overpriced and overcrowded.
A lot of people are happy with just seeing the waterfalls so they could separate hikers from sightseers to fix some of the overcrowding.
David Oskarsson — Google review
This is one of those place that you must visit in Europe. The colour of lakes is just magical. You can choose 5 trails on different difficulty level and distance. You can go there with kids but I think that it could be dificult with stroller. On trails you can use a boat or buses (on some stages). There are a lot of stops with toilets and even fast food. On the stop next to the boats there is tap with a water that you can pour to bottle. From the cons: huge crowd. The amount of people is crazy there. The price - 40EUR per person - very expensive. Moreover you must pay for parking, too. It is not included in the ticket price to lakes. You must buy ticket in advance, tickets are sold for particular hours.

A must go if you're in Croatia. Pick the longest route, it's not a difficult stroll. There is a boat ride in the middle, but it is very smooth and relaxing. Experiencing the layers of this beautiful green-blue park is definitely and experience you won't forget. The longest route could take up to 6 hours, but if you're not taking your time you can easily complete it in 4 hours.
K L — Google review
This place is absolutely breathtaking! You need good shoes if you want to enjoy the longest route (K). I really recommend to start early in the morning because the park is extra full after 11!
You at least need to see this place once because it is ….spectacular!!!!!

Amazing landscape. A few hours drive out of Zagreb and worth the effort. To truly appreciate this national park, you should spend one or 2 nights to complete the longer hikes. Hiking routes are well sign posted. Park entry is €10 per person.

We bought tickets online and all went perfectly even if it was crowded but still I really like walking and enjoying nature and taking pictures.
Everyone should visit Plitivice at least once in life. It's one of the most beautiful National Parks I have ever seen.
I will visit again.

Loved my visit to this national park with its lakes, waterfalls and woodland hills.
Free parking at this time of the year (early march) for my motorhome. The facilities are great for coffee and food. There is a boat ride or you can walk, I took the boat but walked back. The sun was out so made the scenery extra special. The lakes and various waterfalls are impressive. There are nice pathways and clear signs. Everything was brilliant, highly recommend. I will be back.

A must visit paradise in Croatia and one could easily get lost for half a day to a couple of days depending on the interest. At least half a day in a rush to get a taste of paradise is a must.
There are 2 entrances with a good number of parking places which seemed not crowded during October maybe in season it could be packed. Entrance tickets and parking was way below what I expected for this gem of nature. During the season it is a different price but worth paying. I do not understand why some reviewers complain about the price when it is so much of a treasure.
Overall the park is well maintained with good hiking trails, clean restrooms and good cafes and restaurants.
The park can get crowded but as a sensible tourist one has to plan and not blame the crowds on the park. The boardwalks can be packed with tourists hanging to take pics and not respecting others, just be mindful of this crowd
We parked at the first entrance and did the long trail - K which includes the boat ride and option to take the shuttle back to the parking lot. The trail starts off at the lower lakes with views of the amazing waterfalls before heading through the various trails, boardwalks and then the upper lakes.
If time permits I would recommend adding another trail to enjoy more of the views.
Near entrance 1 there is a really good restaurant for an amazing lunch or dinner. The day we visited it was not crowded and we were able to enjoy a peaceful lunch.
Overall a must visit park for all seasons.
Pradeep Ponnuswamy — Google review
Most beautiful waterfalls I have seen anywhere. Absolutely stunning. We did the full loop over the lower and upper lakes and it was about 12 miles. It took us 5 or so hours total with a stop for lunch.
We did this in March so the crowds were easy to handle. Particularly away from the two different entrances.
Diego Salas — Google review
Magical place. Makes you stop in owe and wonder.
The trick is to visit in low season (we went in April) and arrive early (we took the first boat from entrance 2 @8.30 and were the only people on it!). Then as we walked there was almost no one there and so it felt as if we had the whole park to ourselves.
Marta Walters — Google review
The park is amazing. Well worth the trip even in the off season. We visited in late March and there was hardly anyone here. The park was really beautiful, even though the trees had not leafed out yet. We spent two days in the park and we were glad we had the second day.
Corey Reimer — Google review
Definitively over crowded (also in March) but a must-see when in Croatia! The upper lakes are more beautiful than the lower ones, so pay attention when they are accessible as they are closed in winter. Alltogether something for your bucket list like the Grand Canyon or the Eiffel Tower.

Best stops along Konstanz to Istanbul drive
The top stops along the way from Konstanz to Istanbul (with short detours) are Plitvice Lakes National Park, Old Nessebar, and Lake Bled. Other popular stops include Unity of Italy Square, OLD TOWN Rooms and Apartments, and Belgrade Fortress.
St. Stephan's Cathedral, a Baroque Catholic cathedral designed by Carlo Lurag, is a sight to behold with its gilded pulpit and frescoes by Tencalla. The cathedral houses the largest Catholic Church organ in the world, boasting an impressive 17,974 pipes and 233 stops. Visitors can enjoy organ concerts that showcase this technical marvel while admiring the stunning paintings on the ceiling, altar, and statues inside.
Spectacular!! I've seen a lot of religious architecture but this is one of the best. A must see while in Bavaria. Passau is a nice town to hang around as well.

This is a truly beautiful place! St Stephen's Cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Vienna, Austria. It is the seat of the archbishop of Vienna and the most important religious building in Austria. St Stephen's Cathedral is a Gothic-style church dating back to the 13th century and stands at the heart of Vienna's historic city center. It is one of the most important Gothic structures in Central Europe and a major tourist attraction in Vienna.

There are 5 separate organs to play by one person at the same time. Excellent organ recital at noon and 5 Euro to enter. No recording allowed, but you can buy cd in the end.

Church is worth a visit. We went to the daily organ Concert but due to inconsiderate people with coughs spreading their germs and the lack of acoustic due to church being renovated we were underwhelmed and left early. Five Euros per person, and tickets are sold from 10am, not earlier behind the church at a little kios.

Awe-inspiring craftsmanship inside this beautiful cathedral. Definitely worth a visit, even as it undergoes renovations.

The beauty of this Cathedral is breathtaking. All the gorgeous artwork that makes St. Stephan's Cathedral, definitely worth the visit

The church entrance is free and definitely worth visiting this gorgeous cathedral with frescos adorning the numerous ceilings. Be mindful of visiting during church service times. Also, I would highly recommend the organ recitals here ($5/person), which can be purchased in the small courtyard by the main entrance.
This Baroque Church built in 1688, still serving as the seat of the Catholic Bishop of Passau, hosts the largest church organ, with 17,774 pipes and 233 registers, at its initial completion, which is still the largest organ outside the U.S.
Kevin Wang — Google review
Like most church buildings in Bavaria, & Austria, it is crammed with frescos and gilded statues in a lavishly decorated manner; no expense spared. It was a short walk from Danube mooring, but as it was 36c we didn't venture any further. There's a large square in front of the cathedral which is used as a car park. Wheelchair friendly. Free entry.

Super impressive cathedral in the center of a awesome plaza. Story about the cannon ball still lodged in side of church about 4-5 stories up totally got my interest. Roof tiles/shingles are another amazing thing....have never seen anything like it.

Charming and very elaborate and ornate. Still under interior renovations.
Terry Michael — Google review
Entry to the cathedral is free, but closes at 1030 for preparation of concert by organ. You can purchase tickets to hear the largest organ in the world be played!
International Traveling Clown — Google review
The church is a magnificent example of art and architecture. Beautiful art work on the ceilings, and just an amazing piece of architecture. Obviously the renovations at the moment do not do full justice to the building to be appreciated, but notwithstanding, you can clearly get a great sense of the cathedral.
The pipe organ, with its ~17000 pipes, I'm sure is an incredible musical instrument, but the concert we attended, was simply horrid. It sounded like the organist felt obliged to prove there were in fact 17000 pipes. It was a mismash of bits of music, mashed together and some of it was very dark. I personally do not think it showed what a remarkable instrument they have.
If only considering the church, this is a five star place to visit, but the pipe organ pulls it down to only the stars.
The Salzwelten Hallstatt is a salt mine museum located above the town of Hallstatt. It is known for its educational exhibits, including information about how salt is formed and the history of mining. The mine has deep shafts that date back to the Bronze Age, making them among the oldest in the world. Visitors can take a bilingual tour that goes into detail about these topics and even includes a ride on miners' slides, with one slide being 60m long.
I really enjoyed the museum and the tour of the salt mine. It was very informative and there's a lot to see inside. It's supposed to be the oldest salt mine in the world and the tour goes through all its history, from ancient times to modern days.
The slides and the short train ride are a nice touch and everyone has fun using them.
Mihai Belcan — Google review
When visiting upper Austria and the lake Hallstatt area, this is a must do activity, visiting the oldest active salt mine in the world. The tour through is a great experience.
While waiting for the tour to start there is a cafe (snacks/finger food too) and bathroom in the building. The tour guide is friendly and is done in both German and English when going through. They are very knowledgeable as they explain about the salt mine, the mining process and it's history. There are a number of interactive visual experiences as you go through. It's really a well maintained and clean experience.
Take some warm clothes with you, you are given overalls to wear over your clothes, and a free locker to leave your belongings in before you enter the mine. Inside the mine was about 8 degrees Celsius.
We went as a family of 4 with 2 young kids 4 and 5, and they enjoyed it too. There are a couple slides and a train ride to finish it off.

Beautiful place. It’s a unesco world heritage site! Amazing 7000 year history of salt mining. Superb views from the top! The guides are amazing and so are the ways that the miners used to travel! Slides and trains!! The story told by the guides are amazing and very involved! The value for money the attraction provides is amazing! Must visit. Do not miss. If you go ins summer, you will have a lovey route to walk up as well. In the winters the funicular is great and provides the best views too!

Very particular place, standing on top of a hill, reachable via funicular (cost of the funicular and salt mine entrance = 36). There is a parking nearby the funicular Station. The tour of the mine takes 2 hrs. Better to go early, since there is always a queue. You are provided of special clothes to dress on top of yours. Then there is a walk to get into the tunnels and the caves areas, where a guide shows you how the salt is extracted. In a dedicated section a movie shows how in the prehistoric eve the salt was extracted. There are then two slides very funny to move from one area to another. Finally a train brings you back to the starting point. Highly recommended.
Claudio Cafarelli — Google review
You need to take the cable car up here, otherwise it's a one hour up hill hike. At the time of writing (June 2023), the combined cable car and salt mine tour ticket costs EUR 40. I'd say in total we spent about 3 hours total for the mine and the viewing platform. The cable car takes you up hill to where the Hallstatt skywalk viewing platform is. There is also a restaurant and toilets there. From there to get to the mine you need to walk maybe 10 or 15 minutes up hill, a large part of it was very steep, I think it will be very very challenging if mobility is an issue.
The nearest car park is car park #2 and its a 5 min walk to the cable car station. We didn't prebook tickets because we had read online that car park #2 gets full easily and were worried that we wouldn't be able to find parking in time. In the end we arrived around 10am on a Friday and managed to find parking easily and only then bought tickets for the cable car and mine. Not sure what it's like on weekends.
The view from the skywalk viewing platform was pretty, although I don't think I'd say it's unmissable nor must see. Take a look at the photos below and decide for yourself. The platform is quite small and can get very busy as everyone is trying to take pictures from one single spot.
The visit to the mine a guided tour with two short slide rides. There is also a short mine train ride on the way out. The children will loved it. The tour itself consists mainly of a few videos telling you about the history of the mine. I like history so I found it quite interesting. Despite this I don't think I'd say that the salt mine is an unmissable attraction when visiting hallstatt.

Amazing and unique experience. Good guided tour. But there are lot of improvements to be made. There is about 600-800 meters uphill walk after the funicular, which is difficult for small children and elderly. Walking back and forth takes a lot of time and thus very less time and energy is left for enjoy the view at Welterbeblick. Secondly, there are lot of screens and visuals. Which is good in one aspect, but they should focus more on showing more real stuff, as it is the oldest operational salt mine.

Best day ever, unforgettable experience. We had so much fun make sure to arrive max 10 am to avoid waiting in lines. You will spend 1 hour and half there and you will enjoy the 2 slides and the train ride. Unforgettable day. We paid 40 euro with funicular ride well worth the price. It was very cold inside make sure to take your jacket with you or wear it under the costume. It was -10 degree in July. Very nice experience

My family came here a couple years ago and really enjoyed our tour. It's a bit of a trek up the hill to get to the entrance.
Because the tour goes pretty deep into caves they supply coveralls for everyone due to the cold. Once the tour started we got lots of information on the salt mine history. There are a couple slides to go down that bring you farther into the caves and then a train ride out. It was very cool!

We visit the mine with tour, and I really like the guide it was very cool. I enjoyed the museum part. This salt mine is the oldest mine in the word and I extremely enjoy the movies that they showed during the tour, which very informative and there's a lot to see inside. To use the slides and the short train ride are very fun.

In the beginning we thought not to go to the salt mine, because it did not sound very exciting. However, due to the cold weather we had in this day we decided to visit the mine, and it was a very good decision. The kids like it from the minute we entered the site. We got special white uniforms as the mine workers, and the tour was very interesting including a lot of explanations on the one side, and entertainment on the other side as movies and animations. We saw an underground, lake and cool demonstrations of many kinds of salts and minerals. We also used 2 nice slides inside the mine, and ended the tour on a fast adorable train.
There is a 15-20 min walking from the lift station to the mine which located in the top of the hill.

Pretty amazing experience. Very interesting history, I did not know before that salt mining goes back to 7000 BC in this area. Some good to know facts: the time you book online is the funicular ascent time, not the tour start. And you will not be allowed to take the funicular at an earlier time. So consider that. The tour goes pretty quickly I did not have time to listen to the audio guide. I am planning to listen tomorrow on my way to drive home.

It is worth paying €40 for the Kombi ticket, which includes a guided tour to the salt mine.
After the furnicular, plan another 10+ minutes of uphill walk to reach the meeting point for the guided tour.
During hot summer, bring additional warm jacket, as temperatures inside the salt mine are around 8°C.
The tour lasts 1h30min and is fun and informative, with a blend of action (slides and a train ride back to surface) and information (by tour guide and several places with videos in German with English subtitles).
You can pre-download their audio guide app on your phone, to get explanation in your language (the tour is only in German and English). You may also want to bring your own earphones to listen to the audio guide during the tour.

The ride at the end is really well planned and comes at a time when fatigue starts to set in. Highly recommended for all ages.

Very interesting place that you don't see very often... It is worth visit from the very beginning - the funicular that takes you up to the altitude of 838 metres almost vertically, with amazing views over the lake and the village.
Inside the mine (that goes considerably higher than the funicular's end point) there are little trains and huge slides that allowed miners to move swiftly from one cave to the the next one. You're given old cloths to keep you protected from the salt. Some interesting information on the historic context of the mines.

This place is totally worth the visit. The views you see from the top are breathtaking.
I highly recommend the salt mine tour, but here are my pros/cons:
Pros:
1. The guides are knowledgeable and funny
2. It’s an extremely interesting place to see how salt was mined throughout history and how it forms
3. Suitable for all ages
Cons:
1. You sit and watch many videos throughout the tour about history/methods/info that I found to be too long and boring. The guide can just explain it without us having to sit and watch. There was about 3-4 videos, some are in German and only subtitled in english.
2. You wear the miners uniform which is nice, and keeps your clothes safe underneath, but if you’re wearing a long jacket it’s going to be really uncomfortable.
It took us 90 minutes almost to finish the tour, in my opinion it should take not more than an hour without the videos.

Salzwelten a must try attraction in Hallstatt, only 3h away from Vienna.
The weather is Hallstatt is variable so go prepared and check the forecast before going there, the drive from Vienna to Hallstatt is easy meanly true highway and last bit true the villages, really nice drive so a must try.
The salt mine experience is a super worth the money one so strong recommend it as is the world oldest salt mine as well! At the ends of the tour you will get the chance to try 3types of salt too and they will gift you a little salt container for each participant as well.

The experience was awesome and I learnt so much about salt mining. They provide the necessary clothing to go into the mine. We also get to play the mine slide which was extremely fun. The only problem was there was too much people in one tour, and the guide need to speak in both German and English, so it takes double the time. But it was during Christmas holiday so it’s understandable.

$40 euro per person for tram ride (to and fro) and salt mine. It’s worth the money for the views alone. It’s a bit of a walk from the tram to the mine so don’t expect to just be right there. There is so much to look at on the walk including the salt mummies they found there and a mini-temple to St. Barbara.
Fun fact. St. Barbara is the patron saint of miners. Her father beheaded her for being a Christian.
Once you get to the mine you stay in a waiting area until the next tour. Once the tour begins you go into an additional room where you put on your salt mining gear. There are lockers, free of charge. You walk through a photo history area before the tour officially begins. Once inside the mine, they provide a wealth of information in both English and German. There are two fun slides, the second of which a photo is taken. 5 mini films, a light show, salt tasting, and a train ride out.
My favorite part was the light show around the water- it’s very mind trippy. Doesn’t even look like water. A copy of your slide photo is 8 Euro, cash only.

Came for the visit that is worth of the ticket value. Interesting fact to know the history of oldest salt mine in the world. Also had fun with two slides and one tram ride in the mine.

The second ride had a feeling of a free fall the first few seconds, the rest was just awesome. Not a usual zip line where you wear a helmet and hold to the ropes. Very safe and well managed.

One of a kind experience, safe and fast, highly recommended! Disclaimer; the staff expects you to put on your own straps, which is obviously doable, but for first timers, it would be nice to receive the staff’s closer attention.
I recommend taking the flying coaster to arrive to the original starting point more easily (however, if you consider the prices too high, a 10 minutes walk will also do).

Nothing to complain about. Friendly staff, wonderful experience...just do it! 4 people can go at the same time and if you're in the vicinity, do try and check the availability in person, ignore the weather forecast or the website info. Maybe the waiting line was a bit bigger...I waited like 30m after I got equipped to actually ride and like another 30m for the coaster (but that is to be expected I guess). Also try the zip line + coaster...they go well together.

Tartini Central Square, a lovely oval-shaped marble-paved square located in Portoroz, Slovenia was once the inner harbor until it was filled in 1894. The center of this bustling square is home to a monument of composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini, a native son born in the year 1692. The Church of St.
It has an undistinguished look and unique soul this city of Piran. It is something about it which drives me back all the time. Every time I am finding a tiny piece of unseen, mislooked...all in all a must place to visit and explore.

Lovely little town on this peninsula. I love the views from the old Castle walls over the orange clay tile roofs. The walk along the waterfront is lovely and to see the boats. They need more parking for motorhomes. The narrow cobbled streets are OK but need cleaning. Highly recommend lovely seaside town.

My favourite place in whole Slovenia probably. The most beautiful daytime is at night. Children playing a bit football there but the crowds are gone. During daylight there are many tourists and it’s quite sunny. But you can sit down in one of the many cafés and have a cappuccino or something.

This little village was such a wonderful surprise! We were staying in Portoroz for a conference and by chance took the free shuttle bus into the village. We then walked everywhere as you cannot drive there. It was so worth it! So beautiful from every angle. Everyone speaks some English too, which was very helpful. But, If you only speak English, be patient and remember they all speak about 4 other languages and we only speak one, so we are the uneducated ones in their space. Delicious Gelato everywhere too!

Piran is one of the most iconic cities in Slovenia.
**Piran**:
Piran is a picturesque town located on the Adriatic coast of Slovenia. It's known for its medieval architecture, narrow streets, and a rich history that dates back to the Roman era. The town boasts a preserved city wall, Venetian Gothic architecture, and beautiful sea views. Piran has a unique charm and is a favorite destination for both tourists and locals.
**Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg)**:
Tartini Square is the main square in Piran and is named after the famous violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini, who was born in the town. In the center of the square stands a statue of Tartini, and surrounding the square are several significant historical buildings, including the Town Hall and the Church of St. George. Tartini Square is a hub of activity in Piran, hosting various events, festivals, and gatherings throughout the year.

Aquapark Istralandia is a sizable and enjoyable water park featuring tall slides, a wave pool, beach volleyball, and dining options. Although prices are relatively high, visitors find the experience well worth it. The park's slides are well maintained and staff members ensure safety for all guests. The variety of slides ranges from light to extreme, providing something for everyone to enjoy. Air mattresses are provided on many of the slides to reduce scratches on visitors' backs.
great fun, interesting, in some places the slides are too crowded, the slides are phenomenal. everything is super clean, very helpful staff...almost perfect. definitely need to come back a few times. great for individuals, great for families, definitely good fun for friends. pleasant environment. good connection with the surrounding roads. :)

Great one-day excursion. Price are a bit inflated. For a family trip it is necessary to deduct quite a few € + food, drinks, sweets. The park itself is great

Rides are good, especially liked the white rides and the rocket ride, but there are many negatives as well. Expensive tickets for the waterpark of this size (not very big) and long queues. While sensors showing you to go on the ride are good, lack of staff and lifeguards is alarming (I hit my head on the ride and there was no one there). Food is bad and too overpriced, lockers are 6 euros?? Sunbeds must also be free, not for a fee!! Foam party and wave pool are nice, but were turned on for like 4 minutes and id you're far away, you have to turn to make it..

Great place!! It was fun to stay there from 10am up to 6 pm! My wifey and myself enjoyed a lot! Amazing slides!! Our boy is extremely satisfied with the Pirate zone and slides for kids! The weather this day was just the best for Istralandiu, cloudy, a bit rain, a bit sun! Stuff friendly and willing to help! Maybe tickets are expensive but the prices are going up to the sky this year for everything!

The slides are extremely fun however the lines are not worth it. I waited an hour and 25 minutes to get on the family raft slide. Other than that the water is cold which I didn't mind at all it was quite refreshing. The prices are insanely high though so if you go bring your own food and drink if you want to save up. All in all there's way to many people to enjoy yourself. The picture I attached is in the wave pool.

Very nice and well maintained water park with several swimming pools, super fun slides and area for small children. Roughly a half of the slides come with a minimum 1 m height requirement while some come with 1,2m and 1,4m. If you are going for one, note that there is absolutely no difference between VIP and regular sun gazebo except former are on the left and later on the right side of the pool. Some of the slides have a very long waiting times up to 45 minutes.

Relatively high price, but well worth it.
We spent the whole day there from opening to closing and had so much fun! Slides are great maintained, very clean. Staff friendly and slide staff really taking care of safety.
Slides differ from light to extreme, you will find something for yourself. I loved that they provide air mattresses for many slides (less scratches on your back).
Will definitely visit in future!

Quite a big aqua park with a nice view, located near the Pula (1 hour ride by car). It has enough space to place a lot of people. There are enough slides with different option, although the most popular had a big queue (we waited for 30-40 minutes on 2 slides for our turn).
The most horrible part about the park is a food. The worst panini in my life, overpriced meat, potato, salads. So I really recommend you to bring some food and water with you.
Besides the entrance ticket price you have to pay for sun beds 60kn for 2, and 40kn for locker. If you are planning to slide and swim the whole day don’t take sunbeds, we found ours really unnecessary.

Wow this place is clean and with so many services. It's hard to believe with so many people how they maintain such a high level. The rides are amazing and they can put to shame some much bigger cities in Europe. We spent the day with the 7 year old and it was amazing. Great value for money park and I'll be back soon.

Waterparks should be renamed to Waitingparks 😃 More time one spends in a queues for slides than in water or on the slides 😃 But I enjoyed the time spent with my family in Istralandia. I guess one of the best we've ever visited. Pros: nice staff, a lot of space, high number of (truly adrenaline) slides, heavy wave pool, comfy parking. Cons: quite expensive entrance fee, time spent in queues in general.
Bohuslav Vondruška — Google review
Easy to access, good facilities and clever system using wristbands for the lockers and payment for food. The whole place was clean and the water slides were fun. It would have been nice for the green slide to have had more rubber rings as we didn’t get a chance as they were all being used.

Interesting aquapark.
Kids loved it. It has everything forvall generations. Everything is clean and tidy.
Nice shade under the pine trees on the north side. We also had June ticket discount with some on line coupon 20%.
I wonn't give 5 stars because overpriced food and drinks. Restaurant is very expensive and food quality is poor.
Bring something to eat with you.
Kreso Parlov — Google review
We enjoyed a good family day here. The park is really well laid out, clean and tidy. There is a range attractions for all the family.
This is however a pretty expensive day out and you will spend much of that day queueing, in the heat, on packed staircases to ride the various waterslides. We visited on a fairly quiet day in July 2023 and still you could be waiting for around 40minutes or so for the most popular attractions.
There are a number of pools which you will not need to queue for, but these are not enough alone to fill your day or justify the steep price of admission.
Ben George — Google review
Overall a good experience.
Positives: You can bring your own food and drinks, and then picnic in the grass. Rides are fun. Plenty of food and drinks to buy. Buy tickets ahead and save a lot of time in the morning
Negatives: Way too many people let in. Food is prepared from frozen but sold at restaurant price. Would be nice with staff ensuring that people hand over floaties so everyone can try the rides.
The Piazza Unità d'Italia (Piazza Grande) is a large, impressive square in the heart of Venice that is flanked by some of the city's grandest palazzi. The square is a beautiful triumph of Austro-Hungarian town planning and contemporary civil pride and is especially beautiful when lit at night. The buildings around the piazza are all well maintained and look really nice during the day or at night when they are illuminated with blue lights.
Beautiful square. It is often said to be Europe's largest square located next to the sea. The square was built during the period when Trieste was the most important seaport of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and includes the city's municipal buildings and other important palaces. You should visit Caffe San Marco – a magnificent place, well known to both tourists and residents

The Soteska Vintgar, discovered in 1891, is a popular tourist attraction located about 4km northwest of Bled village. It features a wooden walkway that spans over the Radovna river for almost a mile and provides breathtaking views of rapids, waterfalls, and pools. The highlight of the gorge is the 16m-high Sum Waterfall.
We visited on their 1st day of reopening, April 16. Unfortunately due to construction, a few roads are closed so it is emphasized that you should take bikes or walk. We hired a local shuttle to take us there and back to Lake Bled. When we arrived at the entrance, we saw 15-20 cars had taken the same side route that we did to the main parking lot by the entrance. If you get there early, you may get lucky and a parking spot. Otherwise, I’d listen to their recommendation and take a shuttle, bike, or walk there.
The gorge is well worth the visit. It took 45 min with two kids (8 & 6) to walk through. Pictures don’t do it justice. The kids really enjoyed the walk and it’s very safe and easy to do.
At the end of the one way hike, you need to take a hike back to the entrance (min 45 min back), unless you took a shuttle. We took a shuttle and the pickup point was about 10 min past St Katherine church.
Highly recommend doing this trip if you are staying in Lake Bled - even though it isn’t as easy as when you can simply drive your own car there.

I don't think pictures or words can describe the beauty of this place. It's just amazing. It's a great place to spend a few hours in the nature, to just relax and enjoy the sound of the river. Notice that the starting path is a one way travel. To return to the parking spot, you have several options. We chose the red path, which is a 45 minutes walk through the forest. This was also a really nice activity.
Cosmin Vacarescu — Google review
We went there with friends and kids. It was november and after rains. Few days ago we visited Tolminska korita which had bigger wow effect on us. This is nice walk but not worth 40 eur, incl. Parking. We used the red path on the way back via Blejska dubrava. It is a regular walk through forrests, nothing spectacular. There is a nice bridge and waterfall at the end of george but that is all. Also the parking was quite chaotic. I have a feeling this is a tax for being close to Bled.
Lukas Motovsky — Google review
Located just a few kilometers from Lake Bled, the gorge features a stunning landscape carved by the Radovna River over millennia, with dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and crystal-clear water.
It is around 1.6 kilometers long and is known for its wooden walkways that wind alongside the river, providing a safe and accessible path through the gorge. As you walk along the trail, you'll encounter picturesque views of the rushing Radovna River, cascading waterfalls, and natural pools.
One of the highlights of the gorge is the 13-meter Šum Waterfall at the end of the trail. The waterfall is a beautiful sight and a great spot to take photos. Throughout the walk, you'll also encounter small bridges and viewing platforms that offer different perspectives of the gorge.
It offers a serene and picturesque experience away from the bustle of Lake Bled. The trail is well-maintained, making it suitable for visitors of all ages and fitness levels.
Y. T. Nixon Tan — Google review
Ridiculously beautiful walk along the river showing nature at her best with running water, waterfalls, moss, a variety of flowers and clean fresh air. The walk is fairly easy and not far. Worth noting however that it is a one way trip and that you are either going to do a 45 minute. Modernate walk back (which is also gorgeous as the path we took had views of the city Bled and fields of cows) or you are going to pay for a taxi. Best come prepared for a longer hike.
Eden Theron — Google review
Very beautiful trail, well maintained and absolutely worth the few coins. One small thing that we would have liked to know up front is, that it's only a one way trip. So you walk a beautiful gorge trail made of wood pathways on the cliff side, just to walk back via a random trail and road which isn't all that beautiful. There is an opportunity to take a transit back to where you started the gorge but we did not take it.
We had a really good time enjoying the beauty of the gorge.

Everything it advertises and more. This Stunning piece of nature is a must see when going to Slovenia. It's a paid entry but I get why the route is clean and well maintained. You have to pick a time slot so that it doesn't get crowded and that seems to work! Nice views and you have a mixture of sun and shade, ideal for warmer days where you will appreciate the spray from the falls

Very nice distress. Tickets can be bought online or on the spot. It's more convenient online. parking is available before the rush hour. The walk is not very difficult, also suitable for families with children. it is possible to return via two circuits. It is beautiful.

It's worth a look, not sure about good value for a family. I can see the costs that they have so it could be fair price but seems a little high as a family. The path is fairly tight so you can't feel like you can stop and people who are constantly stopping especially on the bridges are blocking the way for others etc. Everyone was polite but it does take away from the experience, then you add hard hats and brisk staff.. I'd probably preference a less popular hike in the beauty which really is abundant in the area next time.

A must do attraction!!
We visted the gorge at the end of April 2022 and thought it was the perfect start to our trip to Slovenia. The gorge is breathtaking with the boardwalk taking you right over the crystal clear water. We then crossed the river and returned via a trail on the West side of the gorge, taking around 90-120mins in total. Highly recommend this site.

Beautiful walk in nature for 2-3 hours. We did it right after the rainfall so the water was wilder than normal. Put on decent shoes (sneakers will do, but no flip flops). There is a place where you can drink halfway. Two options will lead you back to the entrance. Option 1 is shorter (2.7km) and faster, but has more elevation, including various stairs. Option 2 is 4.1km, and easier to do. The down side of Option 2 is that it will take longer. Since it is close to Lake Bled, the combination of both on one day, works very well.

10€ each and another 10€ to park. Not worth 30€. The gorge is beautiful, but considering it's not that long and it's only one way so you have to walk a different way back. It just isn't a good value. Lots of other beautiful hikes in the area that are free.

A most beautiful canyon and lovely hike along it. It's one way only (down the river), thus going back requires going uphill along different route. About 2-3 hours all together

A breathtaking, must visit place in all seasons. Since it is one of Slovenia’s most popular attraction is does get very busy. If you really want to enjoy your time in the Vintgar Gorge it is recommended to get there either right after opening or about 2 hours before closing. Avoid weekends and holidays, if you can. When I say it does get busy I mean it! The gorge is one-way. On the way back to the parking lot take the green trail. It’s a bit longer than the red one, but the view is well worth the extra steps! Enjoy!

The natural beauty of this place is simply brilliant. Visiting in September was a great decision; while the car park was bustling, we had a serene walk through the gorge with no crowd hassles. Getting tickets at the main entrance was a breeze.
It will take you around 2-3 hours to the whole round trip as the actual gorge is on a one way system. I highly recommend following the green route to get back to the car park. It includes some nice views and grazing cows, sheep and horses.
For prices: parking was €10 and entry is €10 per person. If the main area is full, there is also a extended car park accessible by a free shuttle bus that I believe comes every 20 min.

Beautiful gorge with expensive parking, 10€.
Be aware, that the gorge boardwalk is one way. You have to hike back to the parking lot over half an hour. There is a shuttle option, but the hike back is not so hard. There are at the end to nice location to rest. One directly at the end of the gorge's boardwalk and one 10 min walk away.

Now this is a place one definitely needs to be well aware of the details n route. 1. The tickets and walkway along the Gorge is ONLY ONE WAY. at the end of the Gorge one has to Trek back from a long circuitous route through forest. Pleasent and enjoyable only if one is prepared for the 4.5 km trek.

BUY ONLINE TICKETS IN ADVANCE! That's the best tip I can give you in case you don't want to spend an hour in the line. Also, arrive as early as possible. We were there at 9:30 and there was already a lot of people. Still, it was super worth it! Also: bring hiking shoes and know that you might get a bit wet (it's not that bad). Totally worth it to pay it a visit!

Lake Bled is a stunningly beautiful scenic lake surrounded by mountains and forest, with an island that houses a historic church. The greatest attraction of the lake is its exquisite blue-green color. Mild thermal springs warm the water to a swimmable 22C (72F) from June through August. There are numerous places to rent boats, paddle boards, and take photos of the lake from all around.
Stunning place with a fair bit to do, close to lots of activities as well. Row a boat out, do some swimming, rent a bike and travel out, eat some food and relax, a lovely place to spend a couple of days.

This is an exceptional art of the nature for sure. It is good that I went there during winter because in summer it is packed. Take the small boat to the island and enjoy every moment whilst you are there.

A wonderful place, a fairytale.
If you are in Slovenia or somewhere near, you should go there. Beautiful lake, nice castle and in the middle of the lake you have the only isle that Slovenia has. Only one but magical.

Beautiful scenery, lovely boat ride, nice little wander. We arrived early around 0900 and was much better for photos and for the heat, when we were leaving around 1300 it was much busier and very humid.

Truly one of my favorite places in Slovenia. You need to take the boat to go to the island. It's a wooden boat driven by man power. You just sit there and enjoy the view and the moment. The island is delightful. The church (one of 3000 in Slovenia) is beautiful and if you ring the church bell you get your wish. You can also go the the Church Tower that I skipped as I have a fear of height, my friends did and loved the view. The ice-cream shop has a great selection and I loved the raspberry cheesecake brand.
Truly a must visit

Beautiful lake with amazing blue water. Rather smaller but still fascinating. We have visited it during early spring time with nice sunny weather which was added value. The little island in the middle is very picturesque and ideal for making photos. The best view is from higher point. Recommended.

As majestic and beautiful as it is down in the pictures! This is our second trip and our timing could not have been better! No tourists, no crowds! We visited on a Sunday in February, streets were empty but boats to the island and all attractions were open. Weather was very nice! We enjoyed a great quiet walk all around the lake of 6km path. We took the Pletna to the island, had coffee there, walked around and enjoyed the magnificent scenery! A beautiful and a must see attraction if you have never been. Even in the winter, it is beautiful!

Gorgeous place. Do note that in order to get to the house on the hill, you either need to hike 15 min, walk up the road or take a buggy. The buggy is expensive, so do bring sturdy shoes if you plan you walk all the way up.

Nice scenery but very overrated compared to other lakes . The gondola ride to the island is super expensive ($18 per person ). Better to rent the boat yourself but be careful to not go close to these gondolas as they are ready to charge your 100 euros if you even touch them . The island is nice but again overpriced for a small church with wishing bell and a small bell tower . The bled fort is also overrated .

Life goal retire here. Reminds me of my grandfather’s cabin in the mountains of New York, USA. Ah it was so beautiful. Water really is a blue green color. It’s not camera filtering trick in photos. And you can see straight through it a good 4ft deep. Absolutely amazing scenery. Must visit the island and get ice cream and take photos.

Beautiful lake with a castle (church) at the middle.
There are few beaches around the lake, and you can even rent a Sap, or small boats and reach the castle's island at the middle.
You should really visit this amazing place.

Looks like something out of a fairy tale and is in a very serene setting. It obviously is is a popular vacation destination by virtue of all the nice lodging going around the lake. There is a trail around the lake, but we chose to take a boat to the island, then hike up to the castle. But it into a very big lake and there were people walking and biking around at a leisurely pace. It is every bit as beautiful as all the pictures you have probably seen.

Photos and videos taken in May 2023. I took a bus from Ljubljana to Bled. The bus ticket was so cheap during the weekend. I bought it from bus ticket office in Ljubljana and paid €2.20 (included 60 cents processing fee). Bus ticket from Bled to Ljubljana was €1.60, bought directly from the driver.
It was raining when I arrived at Bled. Eventhough my pants and shoes were wet from the rain, I was very happy that I visited Bled, beautiful lake with amazing mountains view.
Predjama Castle, located 9km from Postojna in Europe, is an impressive fortress that was built within a cave on the side of a 123m cliff. The castle's four storeys were constructed gradually over the years starting from 1202, but the majority of what can be seen today dates back to the 16th century. Its location and design make it appear impenetrable and it features restored living quarters as well as dungeons and even a secret tunnel.
Predjama castle is located approximately 15-minute drive from the highway E61 and 10 minutes from the Postojna Caves, so it is convenient to visit both in the same day. We purchased combined ticket (Castle+Caves) for approx. 40 EUR per person. Parking was not difficult to find, however we arrived relatively late at around 16:30 (castle was closing at 17:00), so I imagine during the peak hours the situation might be different.
There are no guided tours inside the castle, instead you get an audio guide (included in the ticket price) which was available in many languages (at least 15). The explanations were helpful, straight to the point and relatively short, so for me that was one of the best audio guide experience. It took us around 45 minutes to properly explore the castle. Normally castle is open until 17:00 but we were leaving the premises at around 17:15 and no one was pushing us out.
It does indeed look magnificent as almost the whole castle is covered by huge rock. You get to explore many different rooms, some of them looking more like caves and others like actual livable rooms. There are some nice viewing points of the valley at several terraces located in the castle. It is definitely worth to visit as there are not many "cave castles" around the world!
There are couple of restaurants in the proximity of the castle and restrooms near the parking lot.

Very unique castle built into a cave. Audio tour gives interesting details as you walk through the castle. Easy to do the tour at your own pace
Ron Huber — Google review
Very interesting castle and history with the included audio guide. There's a decent amount of walking up stairs and through the rooms, but it's evenly spaced with audio guide sections which are numbered to listen. The parking is average an consists of a paved area with about 50 bays. After this fills up, you park in a grassed marshy paddock which is a bit hard to get in and out once more people start coming. Other than that, good castle but make sure you get there early

Absolutely beautiful castle surrounded by stunning scenery. It has a fascinating history.
I recommend coming early because it can quickly get crowded. Also bring a hoodie and good shoes as it can get cold and slippery in the castle.
There is a free audio guide app that is essential to the experience. You can download it near the entrance as there is free wifi for just that.

Great looking castle with a really nice audio guide included in the price and with a free app if you don't want to hold guide by your ear al the time. This is just an amazing castle …. A dream place full of adventures and surprises in side … bring comfortable shoes and with some grip this place is natural wet … there is not lifts…. The castle is full of hidden corners that takes you to a nice natural cave. You need a car or a tourist bus to reach this place . You must pay for parking per hour. The castle is in the world Guiness records of the largest castle built on a cave. They have audio Guia in many languages. People were polite and nice. You must reserve in advance tickets if you don’t want disappointments specially during summer time.

It was a great experience. I've never seen a castle inside of a cave. The history of it and the unique architecture that is part of it, are also great to listen to.
Hard to imagine life over there that time but they did it. If you are somewhere around just turn here and you won't regret it. Nearby is also a small local pub with some local stuff. Thank you🤩

Really nice castle built into the cave. The day we went was quite crowded and a bit overwhelming. However, this is not something you want to miss if you’re in town. Here you are given a self guided audio tour, offered in many languages. The castle itself is well curated, but be careful because the stair cases that are connected to the cave part of the castle are very slippery and many people fell. It’s best to go slow and hold on to the railing.
You can access this castle by taking the free bus. This bus comes from the train station - bus station - predjama caves - to the castle. Check the website for the times.

One of the nicest castles i have visited. The castle is located inside of the rocks and that is truly a unique experience to see this. We had an audioguide and were very interested. In every room you can see old furniture, weapons and armour, ... At the end of the tour you'll go inside the rocks behind the castle. This was something i have never seen before. Really worth a visit. The lady in the gift shop was really friendly. (and there's a cat!!)

A truly amazing Castle with a beautiful view. It was very interesting listening to it’s history (they provide audio players). We bought tickets at the small shop when we arrived. If you visiting with babies make sure you have a carrier or just hold them. Lots of stairs (Castle is inside a cave basically). I cannot imagine living in those times in that Castle, it’s just amazing to picture everything in your head. If you are near by, make sure to make a stop here. Is worth the visit!

This medieval castle, which is the largest cave castle in the world, is still intact after 800 years. You'd wonder how they managed to attach a castle to a cave when cement, screws and drills hadn't been invented yet. I had an audio guide explaining different chambers/ rooms. Beware that there are many steps and uneven paths.

Stunning castle that is located in a cave and surrounded by a farming village. The place is definitely worth visiting when in Slovenia and takes an hour to get to from Ljubljana by bus. Worth noting a cab is needed from the Pastojna bus station to the castle. All the shops were closed as we went during off season.
Caves are stunning as well as Predjamski castle. Shuttle bus to the castle start at 10am although castle is open from 9am. Timetable isn't on the web site.

The Triple Bridge, a trio of impressive bridges over the Ljubljanica River in the heart of Ljubljana, is a popular spot for coffee and snacks, as well as vendors selling traditional Slovenian souvenirs. The bridges are linked by stairways on each side, giving easy access to the riverbank's lush gardens and historic buildings.
The atmospheric Old Town of Ljubljana is home to a variety of accommodation, from rooms in central hotels to apartments and villas high up on the hill overlooking the city.
The apartment is easy to find after arriving at the bus station. Across the bridge is The Central market and all the places are at walking distance. Lot of eating place around. Apartment is cozy,
clean, comfortable and very quiet. Will definitely recommend to friends.

The Old Town of Graz is a beautiful historic city center located in the southern Austrian state of Styria. It's listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its iconic landmarks, such as the Schlossberg and the Archbishops Palace. The cobblestone streets are filled with beautiful Renaissance and Baroque architecture, making it feel like you're traveling back in time.
Graz was a great surprise and quite a lovely city. It has everything - gorgeous streets, cozy restaurants, museums, river, castle, cultural activities, churches, old town and modern Town, but after all it remains aristocratic, elegant and cozy. The whole city has a lively atmosphere. It's clean, everything is taken care of, it's amazing for me to encounter this kind of city management. There are no big distances between sights, it's easy to access everything on foot. Best 5 months of my life, this city is hard to beat in terms of livability. It is so bikeable, the lifestyle is laid back, and the city itself is charming.

This is without a doubt the best place I have ever been. Nature is wonderful, here you can see its pure beauty. The place is fantastic, the staff is helpful, there are small restaurants, gift shops, restrooms in the park. The boat fee is included in the entrance fee.

Great experience, absolutely wonderful and outstanding place. Set of lakes and waterfalls is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Must have to visit any season of the year.

Wonderful place for hikes and be in oneness with mother earth. Unbelievably serene and mind-blowing.
Upper lakes are less crowded and quiet while the lower ones are thriving with tourists. Plan your day and start early to enjoy the serenity of the park.

I split the trip into two days - one day for the upper and one for the lower lakes. I highly recommend splitting it up. I also did the end of day and early day to avoid the crowds which was perfect. This is truly a magical place with just breathtaking scenery.

The most beautiful part is the first lake plus the overview of the waterfalls. The rest of the park is nice but for what it is, it's overpriced and overcrowded.
A lot of people are happy with just seeing the waterfalls so they could separate hikers from sightseers to fix some of the overcrowding.

This place is absolutely breathtaking! You need good shoes if you want to enjoy the longest route (K). I really recommend to start early in the morning because the park is extra full after 11!
You at least need to see this place once because it is ….spectacular!!!!!

The best natural park ever, the water color is absolutely amazing. Very very very nice. we did everything in one day but i wish we had the time to spend two days at least.

Amazing landscape. A few hours drive out of Zagreb and worth the effort. To truly appreciate this national park, you should spend one or 2 nights to complete the longer hikes. Hiking routes are well sign posted. Park entry is €10 per person.
Highly recommended

The Jesuit Church of St. Catherine is an impressive medieval-style Catholic church constructed in the 13th century. The interior of the church is decorated with beautiful examples of Baroque art, as well as stucco reliefs by Italian artist Antonio Quadrio from the 1720s. The church also has a beautiful ceiling in the nave with many medallions depicting scenes from the life of Saint Catherine.
Such a gorgeous facade. The colourful tiles on the roof are unique and eye catching. Unfortunately the whole area is cordoned off as of April 2022 yet still a sight to behold.

Unfortunately you were not able to go inside and the area was fenced off. Even though we couldn’t visit the church itself I was still very happy about seeing it from the outside.
The 13th-century St Mark’s Church is one of Zagreb’s most emblematic buildings.
Its colourful tiled roof, constructed in 1880, has the medieval coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia on the left side, and the emblem of Zagreb on the right.
The Gothic portal, composed of 15 figures in shallow niches, was sculpted in the 14th century.
The interior contains sculptures by Ivan Meštrović, though the church is open only at Mass times.

Despite its size, no one can deny how iconic the church is. This church in the old town Zagreb shows its signature checker patterns on its roof tiles along with the crests.
It’s such as shame that the church is not open for public visiting. It would be very interesting to see the interiors of the church
Aik Sittichai — Google review
A smallish and fairly simple gothic church with a baroque tower. The church is known mostly for it's colorful tiled roof that sports two coats-of-arms. It's located between government buildings and was entirely closed off in the July of 2021. An ornate side gate decorated with a number of statues is the highlight of the entire structure. The church is not a cathedral, but one of the oldest churches in the city
Robert Chomicz — Google review
Very pretty church from the outside. Unfortunately, it seems like you can't get close to it nor inside right now. Someone else mentioned that's because of security measures since most of the government buildings are close by. It's a shame since it looks like it would be pretty cool inside.
Diego Salas — Google review
It is a very beautiful church that I have ever seen. The roof is cute and beautiful. The location is very close to the Stone Gate and the middle of the city. However, that's a pity that you cannot approach to the church. It would be very interesting to see the inside though.

This is a superb building with the most striking of designs. Highly recognisable, near the Stone Gate and in the old town it is well worth a look for a few hours. This is a beautiful town and this building was one of the most memorable parts of Croatia.

One of Zagreb's most iconic architectural and cultural places, the Saint Mark Church is located at Saint Mark Square, part of the former Gradec, today the Upper Town Zagreb.
The tiled roof presents two historic emblems. One is of the former Kingdom of Croatia, Dalmatia, and Slavonia. The second represents Zagreb, the city of wide-open gates, always open to visitors and new citizens.
For many people, Saint Mark's Church has also a special emotional value, especially if they entered the marriage in this particular church.

Symbol of the city. Everyone must to see. Unfortunately very often it's closed and entrance is not possible, so I cannot describe interior. It's very close to other attractions, so even if it's closed, it's worth taking a walk around the church.

Review of the Church of St. Mark in Zagreb
Location: Zagreb, Croatia
The Church of St. Mark in Zagreb is a breathtaking architectural gem, renowned for its cultural and historical significance. This church, situated in the heart of Zagreb’s Upper Town, is a testament to the city’s rich past and vibrant present.
Architectural and Historical Significance
Built in the 14th century as a parish church, St. Mark’s Church has undergone numerous transformations and restorations throughout its history. It’s most famous for its colorful tiled roof, featuring the coats of arms of Zagreb, Croatia, Dalmatia, and Slavonia. This roof is not only a symbol of the church but of Zagreb itself.
The southern portal of the church, a relic from the transition from the 14th to the 15th century, is an exquisite example of Gothic architecture. The church has endured various historical events, including earthquakes and fires, with significant restorations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Recent Renovation
Recently, the Church of St. Mark underwent a comprehensive renovation, which lasted more than three years and cost over six million euros. This renovation was crucial, particularly after the significant damage caused by the Zagreb earthquake in 2020. The church’s interior, including its vaulted ceiling and frescoes, was meticulously restored, preserving its historical essence while ensuring its structural integrity .
Accessibility and Current Status
Unfortunately, due to security measures following a terrorist attack near the government buildings in 2021, access to the church has been restricted. These measures, while necessary for safety, have temporarily limited public access to this magnificent church. The Croatian government is working on solutions to allow visitors and worshippers to enter the church safely while maintaining the required security for nearby government buildings .
Incorporating into a Zagreb Itinerary
When visiting Zagreb, a stroll around the Upper Town is a must, and the Church of St. Mark, despite the current access limitations, remains a key landmark. You can admire the church’s exterior and its iconic roof from the St. Mark’s Square. The square itself is a hub of political and cultural activity, flanked by the Croatian Parliament and other historical buildings.
Overall Impression
The Church of St. Mark is more than just a place of worship; it’s a symbol of Zagreb’s historical resilience and artistic richness. Its recent restoration underscores the city’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage. While access to the interior may be limited, the church’s exterior alone is a sight to behold and a reminder of Zagreb’s enduring spirit.⬤

St. Mark's Church, situated in the Upper Town of Zagreb, Croatia, is a remarkable example of Gothic architecture. Its distinctive roof features the colorful coats of arms of Zagreb and Croatia. This iconic landmark is not only a testament to the city's rich history but also serves as a place of worship and a symbol of civic pride for the people of Zagreb.

One of the best known rooftops in Zagreb. It's worth visiting. I didn't have a chance to visit inside.
The Kulmer Palace Museum is dedicated to personal objects from former lovers, with accompanying short synopses of their relationships. It is a quirky and interesting museum that is well worth a visit for its unique collection.
I think this museum is quite unique in terms of theme. Each and every item in the museum has a story which will amuse and make you sad both at same time. Some stories are very touching and quite a collection of from everywhere in the world. I believe it's must visit in Zagreb, you can't hear stories of people everywhere.
Sonika Prakash — Google review
Do not hesitate to go to this museum if you like to read, like English and/or if you are into love stories. It’s a museum in which there are objects people have given them accompanied with the story of it. Some of them are truly emotional to read, and you will relate somehow with at least some of the stories (there are some about family, not only couples). Even though they say you take from 45min to 1h, I was so involved with the stories, I just lost track of time and spent 2h there, reading and understanding. There’s a book you can write there, it’s a great moment to let go, and there’s also a bar. Great experience, it was my first stop in Zagreb and I definitely say you shouldn’t skip it if you like reading!

What a cool concept. So simple, but so wonderful and very well implemented into a museum.
The ticket is 7€ and you'll spend between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
Stories about relationships that ended, whether they were from lovers, family or friends.
Some are funny, some are witty, some are meh, and some are heartbreaking.
Awesome museum, one of those that you'll remember.

*Baby stroller friendly location*. First I wasn’t sure to go or not. It was pouring rain in Zagreb and at first it was just a place to hide in to skip the rain. But ot turned out to be a must visit musuem. Lots of fun/touching/interesting past relationship stories. Would definitely recommend it. The girls in the reception are very polite and the cafe has good coffee.

This is a roving exhibit that goes around the world. The idea here is to exhibit items that signify love lost and tell their story. And these stories come from around the world.
Some of the stories are quite quirky while others are down right sad to read.

Emotional and tragic museum with a variety of stories. The exhibition is well made and with a lot of detail, but the place is really small so it can get crowded easily. Also the cafè next to it is cut, nonetheless the worker could be more friendly.
Robin — Google review
Not a typical museum. The personal stories were interesting, funny, touching, sad, weird, and gross at different points. I enjoyed my visit more than I expected. Cool souvenirs, too. I disagree with previous comments claiming that it's small. I read every story and felt like if there were more, it would've been too much
Natalia — Google review
Absolutely fantastic! From being on the verge of tears, laughing and being absolutely shocked. If you wander through the entire museum (which I recommend) it’ll take you about an hour. Cost is 50kn. Each sign is in English and Croatian but a visitor book is provided if you do not speak these languages. Toilets and a cafe inside the museum. Great gift shop, including a book which has more objects not in the museum.
Definitely recommend for anyone in Zagreb.
Tamika Green — Google review
A very surprising museum. First of all, relatively cheap, with prices being €7 for adults and just €5,50 for students. I spent a solid 1+ hour inside and instead of my expectations of the museum just being about toxic or broken romantic relationships, the museum actually sheds light on very interesting other themes in an interesting way. The exhibition consists of personal stories that revolve around anything from romance, parental love, family dilemmas/losses to dramatic losses as a result of war. All in all a very interesting and 'enjoyfull' experience and an assured recommendation for anyone looking for an interesting/alternative museum in Zagreb :)

The Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia, is a profoundly moving and innovative cultural institution. It showcases a poignant collection of personal objects donated by individuals from across the globe, each accompanied by heartfelt narratives detailing the stories of love and loss. This museum creates a powerful space for reflection on the complexities of human relationships and the universal experiences of heartbreak and healing.

Pretty different museum. We loved it!
Went there on a weekday around 7:30pm. It had maybe 10 other people there with us. There are some pretty cool stories and artifacts from all over the world which made the whole experience worth it for us.
I think it's a pretty cool concept that can be replicated all over the world. I like that they do traveling expositions as well.

Wow. What a cool concept for a museum! There are moments of heartbreak, laughter and reflection and I’m sure we can all relate to something there. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the collections but reading the stories behind them, from all over the world, really made me feel connected. And for only €7, why would you not go?

The exhibition at the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb is fascinating. It thoughtfully displays objects symbolising the conclusion of various relationships, whether between an individual, friends, family, or even a person and an object. As you explore the exhibit, you come across diverse items, each accompanied by a story that unveils the depth and meaning behind it. The museum provides a distinct perspective on human connections, capturing the intricacies of relationships, beautifully curated and emotionally resonant, offering a unique insight into the complexity of relationships.
Carlotta Olympia Pompei — Google review
Firstly, the museum's name is incredibly appealing. I was captivated by this exhibit to the extent that I immersed myself in nearly all the narratives. I wholeheartedly endorse this museum.
However, my museum experience was somewhat disrupted by noisy fellow visitors. It would greatly enhance the ambiance if a "Please Maintain Silence" sign were placed, considering that the primary attraction here is the written word.
Karishma — Google review
A very different experience, one of happy and sad all mixed. The stories…some are devastating, some are the harsh truth, some are just lovely memories or memoirs. We all really enjoyed it, teens included.
Heather B — Google review
The museum is cool, all fancy inside with brochures in many languages. The stuff on display has stories in Croatian and English. They sell lots of things too. I thought it'd be funny stories about relationships, but only a few were like that. Most were about war, losing family, and sad tales. It made me really sad reading all that stuff.
Lake Hévíz is a large thermal lake located just two hours away from Budapest, making it an ideal destination for a romantic getaway. The lake offers alleged health benefits due to its warm waters and is surrounded by an indoor/outdoor spa with various services. In addition to the lake, the town of Hévíz boasts impressive museums, vibrant markets, a historical old town, and a variety of dining options.
This is a lovely thermal lake which also is huge. Everyone gets an armband that also gives you a personal locker for your belongings. Note that you can not pick any locker you have to blip the armband at the screen when entering the locker room and then you are assigned a locker.
I recommend going around the lake to the "relax" section where there are a lot fewer people and a much more calm setting. The lake is quite warm so do not expect to get cooled down on a warm summer day.

The staff 1 star (if you are foreigner)
The communication was complicated with the staff since they don’t speak English, and that’s understandable even tho it is a very touristic place and the signs inside are all in English.
However when they tried to buy other tickets they spoke in Hungarian and realized we didn’t speak at all, one person started to yell at us and was obvious she was complaining while her colleague was laughing loud, she called one person to speak to us while they kept having this XENOPHOBIC behavior for some minutes.
Its a paradox you go to a place to relax and the staff are rude and disrespectful.
We forgot after some minutes the situation and we were able to relax and enjoy the place

Honestly I thought this was going to be gross and super packed with people. But it was very relaxing and therapeutic. The Lake is gigantic and there enough space to spread out in the water. There are different depths and parts to the spa as well. There is a super deep part and then there are sulfur baths. Spent most of my time in the outside lake part and on the sun chairs. You pay and get a wrist band that tracks you. Different pricing for how long you want to stay.

A well organized spa with medical and healing waters. There is place to buy food and also rent ‘floaters’ which I recommend since the lake can be rather deep. A very well kept secret for rheumatology illnesses, muscle and nerve issues, injuries or just soul and relaxing searching purposes. A little heaven. I stayed in Heviz in a little private Pension, for a week. Yes, things might be not hypermodern and a bit out of date...BUT...it is therefore that things are still very much affordable for everyone ( not only well off people) and it serves every inch the purpose. There is an Medical centre and treatment centre at the slake...and everyone is friendly, professional and happy to help. Most people speak German, English and they are very professional . I had massages . I will definitely return.

Our host at our Airbnb, Veronica, kindly gave us two tickets for cheaper entry to the baths. There are loungers everywhere but finding a free one is a bit of a challenge. The water is very warm, about 32—35°C in summer. My daughter swam 2km, I just stayed at the edge; nearly everyone has a float in the water. The cafe was winding down so our chips were nearly cold which was very disappointing. Cafe closed at 6pm; we were there at 5pm so why cold food an hour before closing?

Amazing park within a fortress. Enjoyed walking around and taking in the views. Make sure to visit all of the gates and the church. Has something for everyone: museums, walls, dinosaurs, cafes, towers, church's, gates, wells, playgrounds, walking paths, views and parks.

This fortress is really nice to visit, it is a 10 min walk from Republic Square. There are several entrances as you walk through the parks to get to it. In one side there is a tiled walk with animal pictures that surround the park you enter in to walk up the Fortress. It is free 😊 you see the local people hang out with their families. There is an attached small church Petr Church. It over looks the river.

One of the most beautiful places in Belgrade, especially during sunset. It's completely free entry. You can take a very long walk and have a nice time alone with yourself or with your family. There are plenty of places to sit and read a book or have a cup of coffee. I am so happy that we discovered this place, will definitely visit again. Also was amazed with military weapons at the entrance of the Belgrade Fortress.

The Belgrade Fortress is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of Serbia's capital city. Steeped in history and surrounded by lush greenery, this fortress is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Belgrade. As a history enthusiast, I was in awe of the rich cultural heritage and stunning architecture that the fortress offers.
Upon entering the fortress, you'll be transported back in time. The ancient walls, towers, and gates stand as a testament to the city's resilience throughout the centuries. The blend of various architectural styles, from Byzantine to Ottoman, creates a unique and captivating atmosphere. It's fascinating to wander through the fortress, exploring its nooks and crannies, and imagining the stories that unfolded within these walls.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the panoramic views from the fortress. Perched high on a hill, overlooking the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, the vistas are simply breathtaking. Whether you visit during the day or at dusk, the sight of Belgrade's cityscape stretching out before you is mesmerizing. Don't forget your camera, as this is a picture-perfect spot!
The fortress also houses several museums and exhibits that delve deeper into Belgrade's history. From the Military Museum to the Museum of the City of Belgrade, there is something to satisfy every curiosity. These well-curated exhibitions offer a glimpse into the city's past, from its medieval origins to the turbulent times of World War II.
Furthermore, the grounds surrounding the fortress are a tranquil escape from the bustling city. Walking along the ramparts and enjoying the well-maintained gardens is a delightful experience. There are also plenty of benches and picnic spots where you can relax and soak in the peaceful ambiance. It's a great place to unwind and appreciate the beauty of nature.
Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply seeking an awe-inspiring view, the Belgrade Fortress won't disappoint. The combination of its historical significance, architectural beauty, and panoramic vistas make it an unmissable attraction. I highly recommend allocating ample time to explore and truly appreciate this cultural gem.

Nice place to have a walk around. Lots of people about but of course it's a free park and it's Saturday afternoon. Good views from different parts of the fortress, a bit derelict in places hence the one star drop. Worth a look if you are in Belgrade.

Sadly the main attraction of the fortress was under renovation but i absolutely loved the time i spent here. Beautiful castle with many other attractions inside like the torture museum, dinosaur park, kalemegdan park, clock tower, military museum. I will visit it again another time i come to Belgrade because I really want to see it in its fully renovated glory.

Located in Stari Grad, the fortress constitutes the specific historical core of the city. One of the most important representatives of their cultural heritage, it was originally protected right after World War II, among the first officially declared cultural monuments in Serbia. It was built in 297 BC, with an area of 66 hectares, or 160 acres.

Really nice fortress, it’s still in very good condition. It has several museums to visit in and around the area as well as a great view of the Sava and Danube rivers and the city. It was lots of fun, very educational and historical. I would definitely recommend checking out this fortress and the museum out.

The things that caught my attention the most in the castle were the arrangement of the military navy vehicles from old to new. The castle was built on a very large land and in a beautiful area. There were wonderful views, but for those who plan to go, I think going towards sunset is the best option because the day has a very clear view. you can catch the sunset.

I did not expect for it to be so beautiful. The fortress and park are at the hill, and the view from there is mind blowing. You can see sava river and Danube mix together. Very interesting place with lovely views over the Sava and Danube rivers’ confluence.
The history of the castle gives a better understanding of Serbia in general. Plus the fortress boasts very well preserved walls and the moat (used nowadays as a part of the military museum, exhibiting weaponry from various times).
Inside it’s mostly a park with some historical landmarks. Especially worth seeing are the Ruzica and Saint Petka Orthodox churches which demonstrate a pretty unique architecture and are considered the most loved holy places in the country.
Strongly recommend for a nice walk with immersion into thrilling history. Admission is free.

Skadarlija is a historic thoroughfare and urban district in the Serbian capital of Belgrade. It was once an independent municipality, but now belongs to the larger administrative division of Stari Grad. This charming street exudes vintage charm, with its cobblestone pathways and quaint shops and restaurants. Visitors can stroll through Skadarlija to admire its distinctive architecture or indulge in local cuisine at one of its many traditional eateries.
Sofia's most fashionable street is crammed with high-end boutiques and fashion houses. The view of snow-dusted Vitosha Mountain is a popular Instagram backdrop, while the cafes and outdoor seating offer an idyllic setting for a break.
The main pedestrian vein of the pumping heart of the Capitol. Great for walking, coffee, short bite, shopping, etc. Almost imposible to find parking but all of the public transportation is near the street.

The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, one of the most iconic Eastern Orthodox churches in Sofia, is an imposing Neo-Byzantine building with richly decorated copper and gold domes. It's one of the largest cathedrals on the Balkan Peninsula, and a popular place of worship for Bulgarian Christians. The cathedral is also home to an underground museum full of religious artifacts and memorabilia from centuries past.
Stunning cathedral from the inside and outside. It is placed in the middle of the city center that is rich in numerous historic, religious, artistic and cultural sights. This temple is the symbol of Sofia with its spectacular external golden domes. It is a must see place in Sofia and you're gonna enjoy the walking tour around.

Beautiful cathedral that is the absolute highlight of visiting Sofia. Mesmerising and magnificent on the inside and outside. It closes at 7 pm but they don't let anyone in a bit before that so if you are visiting it I would recommend the morning!! The walk from city centre is only 20 minutes and is absolutely worth doing it as there are beautiful buildings and parks to see on the way there!!

Beautiful old Cathedral with intricate carvings and breathtaking details. Huge chandeliers suspend over the place and the alcoves hold a great deal of minute details that you could study for a long time. The only drawback is that you have to pay to take pictures inside and there are staff members policing this constantly which really takes away from the atmosphere inside.
Chris Aldrich — Google review
A stunning place to visit. This cathedral is 53 metres high and is the largest in the Balkans. It can hold up to 5000 people inside.
Beware that you cannot take pictures inside - you have two options: to pay 10 lev to take pictures or to confront a man taking care of the cathedral inside and having a great eye for those who try to sneak a photo :)

Its magnificent domes and ornate facade command attention, drawing visitors from far and wide to marvel at its beauty.
Stepping inside, one is immediately struck by the cathedral's grandeur and solemn atmosphere. The interior is adorned with intricate mosaics, stunning frescoes, and impressive iconography, all meticulously crafted to inspire awe and reverence.
Beyond its architectural and artistic significance, the cathedral serves as a spiritual sanctuary, offering moments of reflection and contemplation amidst the bustling cityscape. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture aficionado, or simply seeking solace in a place of worship, a visit to the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is an enriching experience not to be missed in Sofia.

Very beautiful cathedral. One of the most remarkable from the exterior. A genuine marvel. Inside it is dark, I found a priest smoking, he yelled at me about taking a picture. I thought how ironic, if something is to desecrate a house of worship, certainly smoking would be worse than a picture. Inside, it's a bit more open, dark, and depressing. Worth a visit if you're close! Walls are probably stained with smoke.

St. Alexander Nevsky is a beautiful cathedral and a must see while in Sofia! It serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and is one of the 50 largest Christian church buildings, by volume, in the world.
St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia occupies an area of 3,170 square metres (34,100 sq ft) and can hold 5,000 people inside. It is among the 10 largest eastern Orthodox church buildings and is the largest cathedral in the Balkans. It is believed that up until the year 2000 it was the largest finished Orthodox cathedral.
Absolutely stunning 😍

One of the most beautiful cathedral I've ever visited. Being a Muslim I was spell bound.
Pictures and videos are strictly not allowed, though just a part of church is open for visitors. We offered the 10 Lev to take pictures but still the person in charge didn't allow us. When we went last weekend some construction work was going on outside the church.
A nearby metro station is located for easy access.

I had the incredible opportunity to visit the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral during my recent trip, and I must say, it left me awe-inspired. The cathedral's architecture is a true masterpiece that beautifully blends history, spirituality, and grandeur.
As I approached the cathedral, its magnificent domes glistened in the sunlight, casting a spellbinding reflection in the nearby pond. The sheer scale of the cathedral is jaw-dropping, and it truly stands as a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of the artisans who brought this vision to life.
The cathedral's ambiance is peaceful and serene, making it an ideal place for introspection and reflection. I spent a considerable amount of time simply absorbing the beauty of the architecture and the peaceful atmosphere. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or someone seeking a moment of spiritual solace, the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral offers an experience that is bound to leave a lasting impression.
The cathedral's location is also advantageous, nestled within a charming part of the city with ample opportunities to explore the surrounding area. The guides on site were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, providing valuable insights into the cathedral's history and significance.
Visiting the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was an enriching experience that I will cherish for a lifetime. If one visits Sofia for more than 2 days, I would recommend to visit the monastery. We went by renting a car, which is really cheap and worthwhile. Just for the trip up there, the trip is worthwhile. The monastery itself is stunning. The church is jaw dropping. I get "anxious" in a place so filled with "stuff", but it's still interesting to see. We went to the restaurant right outside of the monastery, and had a drink. Definitely worth recommending. The views are amazing and the staff very friendly.

Looking for a great place to visit in Bulgaria?
This ancient monastery is still being used today. It’s a great piece of Bulgarian history hidden in its mountains.
To get there, you’d go by tour or drive. But let me tell you, it’s sooo worth it.
It’s like you were sent back in time. Definitely a must see on your Bulgaria bucket list.
I came here with my best friend and went on a road trip in Bulgaria. So we decided to check this place out.
Be prepared to pay a parking fee. And be sure to bring a bottle water to get some water from the fountains there.
Reminder there is no photos inside the buildings and be mindful of what you wear.
I definitely recommend trying the monastery bread when you get there

Beautiful monastery nestled in the woods of Bulgaria.
We arrived from Sofia, with a rental car, it's not too far away: an hour and a half journey, through the beautiful landscapes of Bulgaria.
The monastery is stupendous and has a mystical air, it is still inhabited by monks. Outside the secondary door of the monastery there is a pleasant path that leads to the ancient cemetery where the monks are buried, a quiet place because few people go there. Recommended visit!

A scenic drive from Sofia taking approximately 1.5 hours into the Rila Mountains. Arrive early to avoid the bus loads of tourists!
The church is covered in incredible paintings, many of which have been restored to bring out their bright colours. Keep a look out for the icon to the left as you walk in which includes the relics of many saints.
Having a guide will be advantage to learning the history of the place and seeing the main highlight. There is a fee to enter any of the museums.

Highly recommended. We went via a tour from Sofia and loved our time there. It is now a bit touristy, but truly is a beautiful place with the frescoes and natural scenery. We skipped the museum just given the tour’s timing, but spent time looking more closely at the church and frescoes, went up to the tower (just ok), and ate the infamous meketse pastries with jam and honey (super tasty). Note this is just outdoor seating.
Facility wise there are toilets but note they are squatty potties without paper so bring your own. There is also a bookshop, souvenirs, and not overly busy car park (in March at least).

Just like other reviewers, not worth to wait at least 1-2 hrs every morning.
Or taxi 10 leva person and shutter bus 8 leva, very long queue in the morning.
Plus when you up there, there will be queue again at the ski lifts.
What a nightmare. First time and last.

It's a gondola.... We were in Bansko week before Feb half term and after 9am it was mega busy, 30 minutes wait minimum if you don't have the magic queue jump pass.
Runs all day up and down with a mid station stop at Chalin Valog. Takes about 29mins to reach the top.
Tickets bought via crystal Ski so can't comment on the usual cost.

Bansko Gondola is one of the worst mountain lifts I have ever seen and it is not because it’s old. It is massively overcrowded. On a busy day you could wait for 1-2 hours to get up the mountain. So either you have to be very early (before 8am), either after 12pm, or you can chose to pay additional 15 levs for minibus service.
All the rest is pretty good, if there is sufficient amount of snow.
However we have spent great time with family in Bansko.
Karolis Zilius — Google review
Pros:
It is a nice place with great infrastructure.
Cons:
The fake snow unfortunately became ice after 13:00. Ratrack machines did not brake the ice. Unpleasant experience to skiing on the ice.
The gondola lift is the bottleneck unfortunately. The rest of the lifts are fast and there were no queues (except Gondola) 🚠
It makes sense to take a shuttle bus in order to avoid the Gondola.
That's why I give 3 stars. Mainly about the snow quality.
Klearchos Klearchou — Google review
Lines can take up to three hours or longer to take the gondola! There was only one ticket machine working, so I recommend buying your ski pass the day before at the windows, between 4pm and 5:30pm. Another option is to take a taxi up to the lifts instead of taking the gondola, sometimes it is worth it just to skip the gondola line.
daniela vega — Google review
This is more of a review for the gondola and main base area than the whole resort: Undersized, overcrowded, and poorly managed. 1 hour ques for skiing are ridiculous. They need to build a second gondola to reduce crowd size.
Having a season pass with "fast-pass" access through the back is the only saving grace from waiting in the huge line.
Snowmaking is fantastic and the nearby bars are great. Always fun to take the ski road home.
Zach Phelan — Google review
Wonderful view of the mountains. Just the right speed. Windows for clean air. The only downside was the ticket price per adult.
Nikolay Georgiev — Google review
The Gondola takes you up to Bunderishka Polyana advisable to get there at 08.00 or after 10.00 otherwise the cues are long . 30 minute ride with stunning scenery . Ski school , restaurants and the beginning of the Ski run ( Ski Road) 7kms of Blue Run ( I found some of it more of a Red Run in places - however my skiing was abit rusty ! , several nice cafes on the way down . Gloriously Sunny all week .
Gondola closes at 5pm for descents .

Have to get there early to avoid standing in queue for over an hour. Resort was okay, but the gondola is a horrible bottleneck in the morning. Don't make the mistake of going during British midterm break, it is the busiest time of the season and the slopes are also very crowded and get covered in ice quickly.
Pihel Saatmann (Pihel S.) — Google review
Good if you have season pass. Without season pass you can stay in a line for hours
Ekaterina Sharapova — Google review
Gondola ride is great for sightseeing. You can get tickets only for the ride if you're not skiing. If you're planning to get coffee or food up there, remember to bring cash with you, as one store we visited didn't accept cards.
Nicolas Sivridis (nyko) — Google review
Unfortnately very crowded when there are hollydays in Romania or Bulgaria. Otherwise is a good and quick way to go on the mountain.
Dani Bis — Google review
Excellent ski resort.
If the line in the gondola is too long, take a taxi to the top.
10 lev for each person.
Very good solution!!

The Ancient Town of Plovdiv is a hillside complex that blends architecture and culture from ancient times to the 19th century. It boasts well-preserved buildings, passionate local artists and art stores. A must-see attraction is the Roman amphitheater, while restaurants offer high-quality cuisine. The town center spans over 15km and surprises visitors with its charm that has been preserved throughout history, from Roman times to present day.
Loved walking around this old town with its narrow cobbled streets and lovely colourful shops. There is a great view over the house roof tops from the very top in a rock area.
Richard Attoe — Google review
Very nice buildings, some still under renovation, and some new mostly uninspired additions to the Bulgarian Revival style. Lot of artistry in church and mansion decorations, lots of memorial houses and art exhibitions. Pitty that cars are still allowed, even if it is understandable. Very hilly and quite uncomfortable walk if you don’t wear the appropiate shoes. Anyway, a nice experience.
Floricica Florentin — Google review
It was great, the architecture is beautiful as always, the little first floor stores were full of adorable trinkets and the historical buildings leave you in awe. But there were the usual crowds here and there but they didn't ruin it

In the begining we thought that it is just a small city center, but then we just started to wonder the streets.
Weeelll...15 km later we stil haven't seen everything that was to be seen.
A REALLY NICE SURPRISE. Visit it‼ It will not disapoint‼ It has a lot of charm, brought through the ages, from the Roman times till today.
Mazilu Alexandru Stefan — Google review
It isn't really ancient but old town. It's quite good to see the architecture of old times about 2 centuries ago. The only really ancient was some stones that it was written something. If you have difficulties in walking, avoid to go there because you 'll walk up to a hill and the pavement/street is by big rocks making walking harder. But if you go there, pay a visit to ethnographic museum, that is worth it.
Kostas Petrakis — Google review
Very beautiful to walk, ancient structures and houses built on top of old castle like walls. Caution on old cobblestone, can twist ankle and if you are staying at nearby hotels your luggage wheels won't last.
Jonathan D — Google review
Take your time and come up here, it's an excellent place to explore. There are small shops, and you can go in some of the old houses/museums.
In there you dont pay much, it was like 2-4 leva a person, and there's discounts for students almost everywhere

Beautiful quite old town, ancient road, you can easily explore the city and enjoy the great preservation of the houses, nice local store along with new and very long Pedestrian walk with elite brands.
Its a place to stay for a few days, but even the few hours tour was enough to fell the city vibe.
Most recommended.

This place breathes culture and a rich history. The buildings are amazing and very well preserved. You have tiny art stores and very passionate artists working in there. It is a lot walking up and down so not an easy walk. You must see the Roman amphitheater! Restaurants are nice and offer a nice selection of high quality. If you are near this area you must pay a visit.

A witness to many centuries of history, old town Plovdiv is trully a gem! You can see lovely Revival style homes, churches, and of course, the ancient amphitheatre. There are art galleries and antique shops, and if you are lucky, you may even see craftsmen working the old way. A must see!

i loved the city and thr historical buildings all around, the only problem as a tourist is not everyone speaks english, however theres a tourist guiding centre in centre and they are very helpful! apart from the old town, plovdiv as a city is so fun to stroll and see around, i also had the chance to see the flea market (the bazaar) they had so many interesting things and the prices were quite alright too!

One of the oldest cities in Europe. Plovdiv is truly magical.
A few hours walk in Plovdiv truly brings you back in time. A melting pot of different cultures owing to different periods of occupation by the Thracians, Macedon, Romans, Byzantines, Bulgarians, Ottoman Turks, the Old Town is extremely beautiful. Little tourists compared to the sights of popular spots such as Vienna. Truly a hidden gem in Europe.
A walk on the narrow cobblestone streets feels just magical. The well preserved buildings, together with the colorful facades and intricate details, is a sight to behold. The theatre, which is nestled within the Old Town, is an absolute must-see. You can also explore the small cafes, shops and art galleries in the area. A perfect avenue to spend an afternoon.
Be careful though. The old cobblestones flooring can make for an uncomfortable walking experience if you are not careful.
No matter what you are looking for, be it history or culture or simply Instagram pictures, Plovdiv will deliver and captivate your heart.

The Old Town of Plovdiv is an absolute treasure trove of history and charm. Walking through its narrow cobblestone streets feels like stepping back in time. The beautifully preserved architecture, with its colorful facades and intricate details, is a feast for the eyes. The Roman Amphitheatre, a magnificent ancient structure nestled within the Old Town, is an absolute must-see. The area is also home to an array of art galleries, boutique shops, and cozy cafes, making it a delightful place to stroll and explore. The vibrant atmosphere, combined with the warm hospitality of the locals, creates a truly unforgettable experience. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply looking for a picturesque setting, the Old Town of Plovdiv is sure to captivate and leave you wanting to return.

One of the oldest cities in Europe, if not the oldest. Plovdiv is a truly magical experience. A melting pot of Ottomans and Romans. The Old Town is very very beautiful, one of the highlights of the Balkan peninsula. It’s not very busy in comparison to Western Europe in the summer time. Probably still quote a hidden gem in Europe.

Tsarevets Fortress is a renowned medieval stronghold and palace situated atop a hill that showcases an audiovisual presentation on Bulgarian history. It is an iconic landmark of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria's highly-esteemed monument, once serving as the dwelling place for medieval tsars. The fortress encompasses over 400 houses' remains, 18 churches, royal residence, an execution rock and more. With numerous potholes and broken steps at unfenced drops necessitating careful navigation through the fortress.
The fortresses is a place were you can climb, walk and discover remains of it. The landscape can be better when everything is bloomed.
As the signs says, watch out for small lizards on sunny days, and be prepared with bottles of water. The sun does not forgive. Also, light or comfortable shoes are recommended for climbing.
Some tips:
- the entrance is 5 lv for an adult
- there are some vending machines close to the main church
- capture the map from the main entrance for better guidance
- you'll find some interesting paintings inside the cliff church

Definitely one of the best and well preserved fortresses I visited. Very easily explorable, a good sight to see from close and afar. It's funny that inside one of the towers there are mock weapons to take some selfies with. The view to the city is also quite good. There are places to buy refreshments inside. Just please - to all visitors, squish your bottle before throwing it away. No need to take the space of the whole trashcan with two bottles.

A really great attraction and absolutely worth seeing! Bring some snacks so you can hangout and enjoy the views. A man named Viktor hangs out outside of the place striking conversation with people and trying to sell them old Roman coins he has dug up. A scam, but he's harmless

A truly significant place that must be seen by anyone who visits the town. A good tour would take about 2 hours. There's an a panoramic elevator behind the bells tower which I recommend, it costs 2lv per person the view is worth it. Overall a 5 star experience.

Massive fortress to explore. Very well kept but lacking in information and the QR code did not work. Need to read up on it or take a tour to really appreciate the history. There are some boards with reconstructions on them but that is all. Great views!

The fortress overall is amazing, took me a lot of time to see everything but it's definitely worth going. You can even go visit it by foot because it's not far from the city center
During the night they even offer a light show which you should not miss

Very impressive! What an incredibly preserved and wonderfully restored complex!
When you come upon the area it is awesome to behold in my opinion! There is a large area to explore and wandering around is very affordable at 5 €. If you visit the Fortress on a sunny day come prepared with sunscreen and water maybe even a hat.

Don't miss out on this hidden gem. needs around 1 and a half hour to get around. the cathedral is a must-see with amazing wall paintings. also visit the vigilance tower to get a real-life feeling of castle warfare. Unfortunately, the elevator to the top of the bells was out of order.

Pretty close to the city center (20 to 30 minutes by walk), Tsarevets Fortress is definitely a must seen if you visit Veliko Tarnovo. The price for the entrance is pretty cheap and overall it takes approximately 2 to 3 hours (if you want to make a pause) to visit the whole place.
If you are lucky and the weather is good, it's a pleasure to just sit for a while here and relax, while enjoying the view.

Amazing place. 1 euro only to go inside. Nice spot to take nice pictures, picnic or spend your day. I visited it in a sunny day. Was amazing to see people and the capel on the top. From
The top you have a good view from the city. If you have time it worth go to visit mini Bulgaria next to this fort. Nothing else to see in the city 3 hours it’s enough

Visiting is the only way you can grasp the size of this fortress. Its HUGE and very well preserved. After your visit there is plenty more to see and do in the area.

It's worth the walk, the few hours, and the non-expensive ticket price to visit and explore the vestiges of the medieval fortress.
As visitor, you will be mostly on your own, because there are no guides and no information in English or other international language.
The museum on top is intriguingly painted (but kind of kitchy?).
The view from above if amazing.
During the summer days, use sun protection and hat. Take some water with you, or some leva if you want to buy it from the vending machines.

It's a must visit place in Veliko Tarnovo. There is an entrance fee but for a family it is around 8 euros, as I remember. It has great views of the city and surrounded mountains. At the top, there is a church and it's a bit steep to walk. Keep enough water on a sunny day. A lot of shops near the entrance to buy souvenirs.

Nice to explore this big site, the remains, the walls,..
Do know that most of it has been destroyed so you'll mainly see the remains. With some imagination though you can see it all come alive as it was back in those days.
The elevator in the central church / tower to go up to the viewpoint is closed on Mondays. I recommend visiting because it s a nice site showing a part of Veliko Tarnovo's and Bulgarians history. However also don't expect too much.
David Seynaeve — Google review
As soon as you reach the city, you see it: the Tsarevets Fortress. It's stunning! The bridge that takes you to the fortress has some great views and it's quite nice. You can also climb up to a few towers to enjoy the panoramic view of the city. On a sunny summer day, you should definitely use some sunscreen as most of your visit will be in direct sunlight. If you're passing through Veliko or you're nearby, I would recommend paying this one a visit.

Old Nessebar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a vibrant snapshot of Bulgarian history. With its charming cobblestone streets, ancient Byzantine walls, and meticulously preserved churches, it's as though time has stood still.
The area offers a variety of shops and restaurants, ensuring there's something for everyone. However, the true crown jewel of Old Nessebar is the breathtaking Black Sea views, creating a stunning panorama against the backdrop of picturesque houses and the iconic windmill. All in all, a visit to Old Nessebar offers a captivating journey through Bulgaria's rich past

Chose this restaurant based on rating but subsequently have discovered that many scores are for the town Old Nessebar rather than the restaurant. The setting of the seaside terrace is lovely but there the pleasure ends. The food is at best mediocre, overpriced and the portions are small and the service is erratic. I would not recommend it.

A journey into the past, with beautiful buildings, with the architecture of past centuries, with narrow and picturesque streets, restaurants overlooking the sea, with shops full of things and memories to buy. "Situated on a rocky peninsula on the Black Sea, the more than 3,000-year-old site of Nessebar was originally a Thracian settlement (Menebria). At the beginning of the 6th century BC, the city became a Greek colony. The city’s remains, which date mostly from the Hellenistic period, include the acropolis, a temple of Apollo, an agora and a wall from the Thracian fortifications. Among other monuments, the Stara Mitropolia Basilica and the fortress date from the Middle Ages, when this was one of the most important Byzantine towns on the west coast of the Black Sea. Wooden houses built in the 19th century are typical of the Black Sea architecture of the period. "
