The Thassos Ancient Theater is a captivating archaeological site dating back to ancient Greek times. It was used for dueling in the 1st century AD and features a forefront scene dedicated to Dionysus, built in the 3rd century. Situated on the west slope of the hill of ancient Thassos acropolis, it dates back to the Hellenistic period.
Looked really cool, beautiful location, but currently under renovation. We couldn't get in. Getting there isn't easy. By car you can only go up to about 200 meters/yards, and the drive is somewhat challenging even for an SUV.
Svetoslav Gasharov — Google review
Unfortunately it's under renovation and it doesn't look good, the place is full of workers, a crane and a lot of construction stuff. The access is quite easy, on a scenic path, I think the sunset is very beautiful from up here. We hope that the renovation of the theater will be ready soon.
Barbu Robert — Google review
It's still under renovation, nothing to see here
Alexander Farennikov — Google review
Currently closed off due to renovation construction. You can still access it by going around the fence if you're interested in seeing it. Best accessible from the northwest.
Wavvy — Google review
Very nice ancient place on the top of the hill. The walk uphill may be a bit tiring but I recommend taking the longer way up with few stops for great views and then shortcut on the way back to the city. It’s a bit a shame that the reconstruction of the theater hasn’t been finished and the crane in the middle just looks like abandoned construction site. I hope one day it will be nicely done!
Olga Chojnacka — Google review
Nice views from the theatre, but the place itself looks a bit like unfinished construction site. If you take the longer route closer to the sea you will also pass some nice cafe/restaurant on the rock with a pleasant view on the sea and the town.

The way to the ancient theater (quite difficult) starts from the marina, behind the Town Museum, where you often have the opportunity to see two locals playing backgammon. The climb follows a narrow, typically Greek street, and continues on some sort of stone steps. Once you get to the theater, you have the opportunity, after visiting, to continue on the same road to the ruins of the ancient Acropolis and the temple of the goddess Athena. Once you get to the theater, you can not fail to notice a few aspects: 1. the giant wish for beauty and art of so-called primitive people, since they accepted to made such an effort to enjoy them. 2. the special aesthetic sense that the same people showed, the panorama that can be admired from the places being superb. 3. the inscriptions carved in the stone of some places with the names of certain families, these being what we call "reserved places", which proves that the viewing of the theater shows at that time was not a hazardous act but a consistent activity.

The ancient theater of Thassos is located on the west slope of the hill of ancient Thassos’ acropolis, 500 m east to the town of Limenas.
The oldest phase of the theater is dated to the beginning of the Hellenistic period (first quarter of the 3rd century BC).
The first excavation at the site took place in 1921 by a French Archaeological School. The site was reconstructed in the last few yearsand The theater hosts nowaday local festivals, concerts and performances that take place over the year.
The theater has a capacity of 2000 viewers and in order to arrive there you need to walk uphill few hundred meters, and to climb about 130 steps, but the beauty of the site and the panoramic view worth that!!

The beach's secluded location offers a sense of privacy, while nearby amenities cater to visitors' needs. Nestis river is wide, fast flowing, shallow in this location and crystal clear.
DENNIS ATKINSON — Google review
The guide was nice, but they don't really speak English. The river was very low and it was a pretty boring experience at this time of the year. They told me on the phone it's regulated by tgedam and there's enough water. My kids were pretty bored. The staff aren't the most polite. The price is very high for the overall experience. I wouldn't go again.
Jelena Pavlovic — Google review
Nice place with a few outdoor activities for kids (wall climbing and archery were operating when we visited; zip line over the river was not). Rafting can be arranged on demand. Decent service at the coffee shop.

This was one of the best wilderness experiences we've ever had.
The team at Riverland Outdoor Activities are the most organised, professional and safety-conscious in the area.
Above all, they're friendly, knowledgeable and go out of their way to make sure their customers have a great day.
These are the things that were important to us that we want to share:
If you're kayaking, The Riverland Team provide wetsuits, thermal protection and life vests. These are all in excellent condition and are cleaned with an antibacterial solution after every use, for at least 24 hours, which we were very relieved to hear.
Be mindful of your valuables and anything that you would be devastated to lose in the water. The Riverland Team provide watertight containers that will protect your things. The guides will take plenty of photos for you and will share them with you via email inclusive with your ticket fee. The Nestos River has many different sections and certain currents can be unpredictable and can flip you into the water, which is an experience in itself! If that happens, be cool, the guides are experts and will help you.
Included in the ticket fee, the team also provide snacks, tea/coffee and a light lunch all which are fresh and catered to dietary needs.
Overall, these people are the best at what they do. Trust your day out with them and you will have a great time. To our guides Christina and Ioanna, thank you!

Booked online which works perfectly, we got called back soon and the details were cleared.
Nice welcome at riverland center, transfer to the starting point with our guide dimitri took approx. 1h, but the flew by because dimutri was telling us, a lot of the country.
Quick but precise introduction
The landscape and the river are great landscapes, a must see
Special thanks to our guide dimitri. It was a pleasure to be on tour with gim. He always takes care of all tour members, tells you everything about the river and its fauna and flora.
The rests are something very special. A table, the meal nicely presented. You can drink coffee if you want!!!
Summary: a great nature experience, also for the not so experienced kayaker.
Tipp: book riverland and dimitri as tour guide!

Now that was fun!! 🤩 We were looking for a special holiday activity for us and our two 14 y/o teenagers, and found the Nestos Rafting Tour to be the perfect combination of enjoying the beautiful Greek nature with a splash of adventure. And we weren't disappointed! The booking process via telephone with Christina was perfect, all our questions were answered and a pdf with all relevant infos sent beforehand - including a Google Maps link for the meeting point in Paranesti. There, we were greeted by the super friendly staff, and our Captain for the day, Georgios, even spoke German. After having been supplied with life vests, helmets and neoprene shoes (we were also offered full body neoprene suits, but we thought the 9 °C Nestos water would be refreshing on a 37 °C day 😉).
So off we went in a trusty vintage Mercedes mini bus (which originally must have served in the Netherlands in the previous millenium, as some window stickers read 'Nooduitgang'), and after a short ride of about 10 mins we arrived at the cool and shady river bank where we'd embark for our journey. With us was another family of four from Cyprus - including their grandma of about 75 years! (To say it in advance: She also enjoyed the trip, and arrived with us safe and all smiles in Paranesti. So you see this tour is really doable for almost everyone).
Georgios gave us a thorough instruction, and even as first time rafters we felt fit and ready to conquer the Nestos river then 🏴☠️.
We hopped into the boat, did a quick practice round in calm waters - and started our 9 km trip downstream.
To make an almost too long story short: It was a fantatstic experience! Thanks to Georgios in the back, we always felt safe, had fun in the waves and enjoyed the calm passages and the quiet.
While most of the time the river does the job, some rowing by the crew is required, appr. for about 1/3 of the time. So the water bottles supplied by Riverland were much appreciated. Though the air on the river is nice and cool, often with a light breeze, the Greek sun still does its job - so don't forget a proper sunscreen 🌟
We say thanks to the Riverland team for the great day - we're sure we'll try another experience in the future!

Great activities from a well-organized and professional team. The location at Nestos river is breathtaking and guarantees a unique and rewarding outdoor experience no matter what you choose. Highly recommended for tourists and locals alike!
I highly recommend visiting this museum whenever you can. The exhibitions there are unique and with a lot of thought behind them. The concept behind every composition is different and has its own story. Absolutely amazing!

A very unique and interesting art installation worth visiting. The art pieces were fascinating and a kind tour guide enlightened us on their meaning. There was also art for purchase, ranging from small magnets to big pieces at very reasonable prices. Entrance was free and you are welcome to donate as much as you like at the end of the tour. We ended up purchasing some souvenirs as well! Definitely recommend!

Been to many Art Exibitions and this one by far was quite interesting and not the norm. Great brilliant Artist and his pieces are amazing. You will not be disappointed. It's very simple but will blow your mind with his creativity. The Artist is so into his work he will personally walk through with you and explain everything if you like. Also,a bonus only cost €1.00 per person. You really have to see if for yourself to get the actual experience. ENJOY!

Lovely! The lady there explained everything to us, was very interesting and had great creativity all around :) totally worth it!

Small but really worth to visit. There are 36 up cycling pieces in total and the artist Triantafillos will explain you everything. Free of charge; you can always give something in case you like it. It’s located in an old nice building in the old town of Xanthi.
Panagiotis Oikonomopoulos — Google review
Great place for a short visit - young and old will be fascinated by the works on display. The artist will talk you through some of the works (in English also). €2 well spent, and the items for sale are not mass-produced in Chinese sweetshop!

It's an amazing museum! Nice old building, and rich collection of antic things. The museum have a wonderful etnographic exposition from the past.
Владимир Бъчваров — Google review
Best 1h you can spent if you want to learn anything regarding the history of this town and region, from both an economic and social perspective. The building contains numerous tools and products as well as details and information.
Pashalis, the tour guide, gave us a fantastic presentation that highlighted many historical aspects in a way that felt as if we relived those moments through his narration. He also clarified any questions we had and it was clear that he loved what he did. It was certainly one of the most interesting, informative and even moving presentations I've experienced from such a short tour.
A must-see that will not take much of your time and which at a very reasonable price will provide you with a very clear explanation of how the city's and region's western and eastern influences blend with each other to create such an interesting mix.
Spiros Georgiladakis — Google review
The museum is excellent and enables you to get a good glimpse of a rich house of the old days and much more. The museum by itself is worth the ticket but...listening to Mr.Pasxalis speak about Xanthi, the past and the present was most rewarding and educating. He spoke vividly, knew his stuff and took questions. No charge! I noticed talking to some people next with the same passion.
Congratulations sir.
Best money you can spend really.

Very well organized museum and a wonderful presentation by the curator. Definitely a must visit for tourists and locals.
Old Town's cobblestone streets are lined with Byzantine Greek churches, Ottoman mosques, and neoclassical mansions of tobacco merchants, some transformed into landmarks like the Town Hall and the Folk & History Museum. Alfresco cafes and pubs cluster around bustling Antika Square, a short walk from green spaces by the Kosynthos River. The Old-Town Festival at the end of summer features live music and street food.

The route to the fortress is easy as it is very well secured and has perfect stairs in most places. It's not as strenuous as it looks from below, there are just a few steps uphill. As already described in another review, not much of the fortress itself remains, but the view is wonderful and the rocks guarded by mosses and lichens are a feast for the eyes!
Heidrun Dyckhoff — Google review
You will have to climb for about 40 minutes but the view from the top will worth the efforts. The fortress itself is long gone so don't get your expectations too high. However it's beautiful nature walk and as I said - the view is stunning
Nadya Kafkova — Google review
Very well maintained place with spectacular view in all directions. I recommend you to walk the entire route, including the panoramic path (despite the large number of stairs) it worth it. There are places for relax with benches. Finally you may make a coin of the fortress by yourself - it's very interesting and also very good way to keep some material memory from this amazing place. I would visit it again!

Each time I’m coming here the place is totally different. A lot of new things are built here. I remember my first visit here. There was just one hotel and few houses that rent a room. Back then there was no boarder crossing spot etc.
Now here are a lot of interesting hotels and guest houses.
Overall the place is worth to visit and you can find also craftsmen that work in a small shops. The feeling is good and I’m positive that will come back really soon here. The nature and all the place around are super. And people are polite and friendly.

Very beautiful old town, built in the old Bulgarian tradition with cobble stone streets, artisan and craft shops, family hotel houses and restaurants offering traditional food. There are also a couple of museums there. The artisan and craft shops are not always open despite the announced working hours. For some of the reataurants you will need a booking in order to eat there, especially for dinner. What makes the old town such a great place to visit is the cultural calendar that offers variety of festivals, concerts, etc., so it is worth cheking the website of Zlatograd municipality to see what is there on the calendar and when. It is a small place, where you can spend an hour (hour and half the most) to walk from one end to the other and visit all interesting artisan shops.
Miglena Molhova — Google review
Zlatograd is a very small and cozy town nested in Rhodope mountain. The Ethnographical Aerial complex presents a group of houses in the traditional style, some of them turned into museums, telling us stories of the times of voivods, Ottoman yoke and the struggles of Bulgarian people. The festival of Delyu Voivod takes us back in time in a realistic manner and the great reanactment has already turned into a tradition with people participating with enthusiasm and pride.
Philip Tour Guide — Google review
Great well preserved village of traditional architecture from the Bulgarian renaissance period. Small shops offer handmade goods for really good prices, including woodwork, shoes, and sheep skins!
Kostadin Kushlev — Google review
Its very nice historical place. Not very big but interesting. You will find many authentic shops that still do hand made stuff. There are few museums that I recommend to visit: one is Delyu Voivoda's house and the other is the school. There is also very old church built into the ground. It is the best place to visit but it is around 10min walk or 5min drive from the ethnographic area.
Milen Radanov (The Sapper) — Google review

(Translated by Google) It is most likely that it is indeed the first mosque of Komotini. It is located in the center of Komotini and this complex used to include a hammam and a series of shops that surrounded these institutions. Furthermore, according to an earlier reference to the mosque, there was an inscription in a non-Ottoman language and it is probable that there used to be a Byzantine temple in this place. The mosque was renovated for the first time in 1854, while today it is kept in very good condition.

We had a wonderful wine tasting experience at the Zagreus Winery. The tour and tasting was very interesting, held in perfect English (or French) by Grozdena, with a special focus on Bulgarian organic wine from ancient grape varieties. We definitely recommend it and will come back again!

During our roadtrip we wanted to taste the wines of mavrud grapjes.

Best winery experience ever!! Decided to come off the motorway en route to Plovdiv because of the good reviews. Lady who showed us around went above and beyond for us - think she was called грозде - not sure about spelling sorry!! Amazing set up, amazing views, wine tasted great especially the vinica mavrud. Would recommend calling up in advance. 10/10

This is the fourth winery we visit during our trip in Bulgaria and it is here where we had the more detailed explanations about the wines we were tasting. We sat with one of the oenologist and we could taste and discuss with her about the 5 chosen wines with no hurry at all (which is not so common). It is worth a visit if you are in the region.

Absolutely fascinating place! The Thracian sanctuary near Tatul Village, is a really unique place! It is very easy accesible place just 200 m away from the village or 15 km away from Momchilgrad.
The sanctuary is a massive rock structure and its top is a truncated pyramid. There are a rock sarcophagus, a rectangular bed for the main altar, and a three-metre-deep well.

Wonderful views. One the famous local sightseengs, entiant historical. There is an entrance fee but you can avoid it if you go after the working hours. They were doing some restavration the last time I went but I believe they shouldn't cause it doesn't look as it was. Be careful with small kids as it's really high.
Unknown from the tourists there is also a small "cave like" which we found by coincidence. There are no guiding signs for it but if you want to see it - After the old weapon go in direction behind the water well go in straight direction little bit on the right and you will see it behind a big rock. We named it The small womb ;)

An interesting place to stop by at. We stopped for a night in the car park, and went up the hill in the morning. They are working on improving access to the site at the moment so we had to avoid some work in progress, but it was still an interesting site to visit.
There’s a reasonable number of information boards about that give an idea of the uses of the various buildings.

It's a nice place to visit it has a large parking with barbecue and souvenirs. The path to the top is around 30 minutes normal walking. And it's really big and well renovated.

The place is impressive, you can spend a comfortable hour browsing the site. Sorely lacks information boards though, you won't really know what you're looking at without reading up on it beforehand.

This ancient city is still being excavated today, and some say it will take another 10 years to complete. It is quite massive and sitting atop a mountain. It's best to go with a guide who can explain everything in detail. There is a 10-15 mins walk from the carpark to the top, and it's a moderately steep hike.
It's no real issue for anyone like me who has a fear of heights. I managed it quite comfortably. Costs 6lev for admission plus 1lev for the carpark.
There are stalls at the entrance selling every conceivable type of rock and crystal plus jewellery. One that definitely should not to missed.

Maybe the most popular tourist attraction in the Rhodope mountains. An ancient place inhabited by different cultures throughout the centuries, with rich history. I recommend taking a guided tour so you could get the most from your trip.
?????? ????? — Google review
The scale of the place is enormous. It took us around 2-3 hours to check out the whole location, though more is being discovered, so spending at least half a day is what I would recommend. You can grab a map at the entrance, though most of the places can be guessed in terms of their functionality just by looking at them. Having a guide with you is probably very useful so they can give more information and answer any questions that come up.
The view is also incredible!

One of the most memorable and magnificent places. It is a huge complex and you should have at least 3h to see and be everywhere. Grand throne room, ancient sanctuary and the altar chamber was my best destinations. But there are a lot more and they still digging for new founding.
Nick Bozhilov — Google review
Such an impressive site! An amazing view from the top and fascinating remains of the ancient city. Buy a guide book from the guys at the bottom as there's no information on the site. Footpaths are really nicely made and plenty of parking space. We visited on a Friday morning and it was quiet - only a few people there. You can also buy water at the entrance. Parking was 1 Lev, entrance was 6 Lev and guidebook was 4.
Olivia Laverick (hopelesslynomantic.com) — Google review
It is a tough walk, especially on a warm and sunny day but when you get to the top it has a stunning view and a real sense of history. Nature and the ruins are stunning and you can walk around quite a bit and discover other paths or ruins. Do bring water when you go up. The chemical toilets at the start are in my opinion for emergencies only.
Dominic den Drijver — Google review
Very nice place and walk (I believe I needed an hours with photos and all). You will need water and confrotable shoes. They offer guides, maps and books at the entrance since there are no explanatory signs inside and you would not know what was what. I didn't bought a map or else and still it was very nice. I would definitely recommend it.
Lyuba Grigorova — Google review
It's an incredible site thinking of how long it's been there, I would give it for but think how it's being managed is disappointing.
It's a shame they are spending so much time and money on the entrance building instead of maintaining the pathways and cutting the growth back. Information signs are also faded.
Plus 1lv for parking and .5lv to use a porta loo
Group of wind-&-water eroded stone pillars that look like mushrooms & stand nearly 2.5m tall.
Worth stopping by if you're on your way to Perperikon or some other site, wouldn't go out of my way to visit as the site is tiny and requires five minutes max to see. Good for photography.

Did the wine experience in Midalidare. They take you through the brewing process and the facilities. In the end we tried 8 different wines (4 whites and 4 reds) and had a cheese and bites platter. The quality of wine is really good and it’s cheap.

Displays & artefacts relating to cultivation of roses, with a souvenir shop for rose oil products.
Pretty nice little museum explaining history of rose oil production. 6 lev for adult and 2 for children.

Quite boring. Yes, a few interesting infos pops up now and then, but overall is not really worth a visit. Giving the bulgarian long and rich tradition in cultivating roses, the museum could have been so much more and we expected more.

It's amazing to see the full history of creating Rose Oil over the centuries and the tools, methods and machines used to create this very beautiful oil which smells beautifully of a rose.
The museum consist of a circular building and as you walk around it takes you through the history with lots of reading, poster, artifacts and even clothing.
There is a gift shop where you can buy many products containing rose oil or souvenirs relating to it. In all we spend about an hour going around.

Despite the fact that is looks large the museum doesn't have much to see and do.
It has interesting history and few artifacts, but very little interactions.
You don't need more than 10-15 minutes to see it and that includes the shopping time for rose souvenirs or rose oil products.
The park around it is nice to visit and it's free.

Stone memorial with soldiers' remains & a bronze lion, commemorating a 1870s battle for Shipka Pass.
This is the most historical place for all Bulgarians. If you're pretty fit you can climb all the 894 steps, the top of the Monument. Of course there's a shortcut for those lazy ones that want to drive to the top with their car. The view up there is spectacular with elevation of 1329 m. Every time I go there my patriotic feelings are stronger than ever. God bless Bulgaria 🇧🇬

The Monument of Freedom, situated atop Saint Nicholas Peak in the Rila Mountains of Bulgaria, is a powerful symbol of national pride and liberation. Erected in 1956, the monument commemorates Bulgaria's struggle for independence and pays homage to the country's heroes who fought for freedom and sovereignty. The monument features a towering spire adorned with sculptural reliefs depicting scenes from Bulgaria's history, surrounded by sweeping vistas of the majestic Rila Mountains. With its commanding presence and breathtaking mountain backdrop, the Monument of Freedom on Saint Nicholas Peak stands as a poignant reminder of Bulgaria's enduring spirit and quest for liberty.

A proudly standing piece of history featuring a museum and a 360 degrees view on the top where you can see Botev peak, Shipka, Kazanlyk and Buzludja from. Worth the visit and view, even if you're not historically connected to it.
Scenic 3,904-ft. pass between Gabrovo & Kazanlak, known for being the site of 4 historic battles.
Shipka Pass (Bulgarian: Шипченски проход, Shipchenski prohod) (el. 1150 m./3820 ft.) is a scenic mountain pass through the Balkan Mountains in Bulgaria. It marks the border between Stara Zagora province and Gabrovo province. The pass connects the towns of Gabrovo and Kazanlak. The pass is part of the Bulgarka Nature Park. The monument is a 31.5-metre (98-foot) high stone tower in the form of a truncated pyramid. A giant bronze lion, 8 m (26 feet) long and 4 m (13 feet) high, stands above the entrance to the tower, and a figure of a woman represents the victory over the Ottoman forces. A marble sarcophagus housing some of the remains of the Russian and Bulgarian casualties is on the first floor. There are four other floors where one can find replica of Bulgarian military flags and other relics. The top of the tower reveals a panorama of Shipka Peak and the surrounding area.

Monuments & Statues
Abandoned Communist-period monument noted for its futurist, flying saucer-inspired architecture.
It’s a pretty epic building perched on top of the hill!
We arrived late at night, having struggled up the hill in our RV once we’d got the snow chains on it.
When we awoke in the morning the sun shone down on this beautiful building and the snow glistened.
Hard work walking up to it through snowdrifts but worth it.
Incredible views from here. It’s well worth a visit it.

Very interesting crumbling communist meeting place. Very large and powerful structure. You can only imagine the speeches that went on on those steps on inside the space ship. There is a small ski run on the back side that is operational so worth a check if you are keen to do some winter sports as well.

Amazing building, with lots of tourists attention, but the government doesn’t care about it, all the sculptures/statues are stolen and it is all ruins…
Stanimir Rachev — Google review
The Khadzhi Dimitur, listed among the world's top 10 alternative tourist destinations, boasts a history steeped in political significance. Originally serving as the meeting place for the Bulgarian Communist Party, this architectural relic now stands in a state of graceful decay atop a picturesque mountain. The journey to reach the Khadzhi Dimitur is as captivating as the destination itself, offering a scenic hike that marries natural beauty with the anticipation of exploring a unique ruin. The building's current condition adds a layer of intrigue and character, transforming it into a must-visit spot for those seeking offbeat travel experiences. Its dilapidated state, rather than diminishing its appeal, enhances the allure, offering a tangible glimpse into Bulgaria's historical narrative. This juxtaposition of natural splendor and historical decay creates an atmosphere that is both haunting and beautiful, appealing to adventurers and history enthusiasts alike. The Khadzhi Dimitur stands as a testament to the passage of time, inviting visitors to step into a space where history and nature converge in a striking tableau.
Max J. Puehringer — Google review
Probably one of the most controversial buildings in Bulgaria, the Buzludzha Monument is located near the city of Kazanlak and on the Hadzi Dimitar peak. Because of its communistic origin, the Monument suffers from variety of problems, such as ownership issues, lack of preservation strategy, no vision for its future. While the construction attracts hundreds of tourists every year, and even though it is considered an architecture masterpiece, the Monument is in ruins and decomposes slowly.
Be mindful of the strong wind at the peak. It could get chilly even in the summer. If you visit, you can also check out the Shipka Monument nearby, as well as the incredible church in Shipka village.

Amazing place. I recommend you to climb up to the top early in the morning when no-one is there except the security. You need to get a permission from the man in Veliko Tarnovo to get into the building but I think a little bribery will do the job as well.

This is the desolate interior of a monument from the Soviet era, when Bulgaria belonged to the socialists. If you think its interior is impressive, its exterior (see next slide) is just as captivating. It appears to be a kind of flying saucer on top of a hill and, despite the futuristic look, it was built back in 1981 to commemorate a congress of the Bulgarian Communist Party. It is now completely abandoned.

Lovely! there is no entry fee and no explanations are given. There is only one good article (the wiki one in Bulgarian) found about this place. Nonetheless it's definitely worth talking a look. You can admire the communist buildings in the background, makes for quite an arc over history. Not clear what is preserved from Roman times and what is reconstructed
Klaus Wanderer — Google review
Beautiful roman ruins, you can walk through the forum and there is no entrance fee. Problem is just that they erected everything and didn't make clear where the originals stop and the reconstruction begins. Also there is almost no information, you just walk among the place and have to guess what it is that you are walking on, if you aren't an archaeologist or historian. Good place to visit, but go to the Stara Zagora Museum first to get informed ;-)

Beautifully made and there are a lot of artifacts from which you can learn about our and ancient history. In most museum you pay the same tax, but you have much less items to observe. For example, in Stara Zagora museum there were 4 floors full of history, meanwhile most of the museums offer maximum of 2.
I strongly recommend visiting this museum!
Incognito_ZIT Flexing — Google review
The museum has very beautiful artefacts on screen but on the contrary with other and more important arhaeological museums around Bulgaria like the one in Sofia, Varna, Ruse or Plovdiv where you are allowed to take pictures with a camera, this museum does not allowed you to take photos. I think they are very jealous of sharing photos of their artefacts with lovers of history. Meanwhile outside in the ruins of the forum you can find that none is taking care of the ruins which has rubbish, plastics, graffiti, tall grass and rotten wood in the steps of the auditorium. I would like the city and the museum would take more seriously which is important, a photo of one artefact or the whole ruins. Photo taken under the bridge over the forum.

Most perfect building for an archaeological exhibition that I've ever seen! It lies directly above the ancient Roman street and amazingly includes it into the building. The different historical periods are on different levels, so you can go from antiquity on the ground floor to the 20th century on the 4th floor. It has a lot of interesting exhibits, you can get a guided tour and you also can book tours for children. The museum offers good food and drinks in a restaurant directly beside the Roman ruins, clean and modern toilets as well as nice souvenirs an a small museum shop.

I've been fortunate to ride at this riding stables regularly in the summer. The setting is beautiful, with views over the village and surrounding hills. I particularly enjoy riding in the hills as the sun sets. The horses are responsive and have really helped me increase my confidence in horse riding. The stables are able to accommodate a friend with mobility needs who has been able to ride with assistance. Staff are friendly, with a lovely family friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend the stables, and would encourage others, whether confident or beginners/nervous to visit and ride.

What a stunning place for both adults and children! The staff is highly experienced, the horses are very well looked after and great with children or unexperienced riders. Riding there is safe as far away from main roads. If you don't want to ride, while waiting for your family or friends to return from their ride, you can just sit and chill on the terrasse overlooking the village and the mountains and be entertained by hilarious mini goats and other little friendly animals! My son (who is a proper city boy) loves this place where he can wander freely and safely! He also attended the kids camp last summer and loved having art classes, building huts in the forest, and of course riding and learning about caring for a horse. We can't wait to go back and enjoy some more fun time!

Definitely add KBS to your visit list if you're in the area. Lots of activities for little ones and adults alike. The farm itself is beautiful with breathtaking scenery. Events organised around it on occasions of historic and community significance have turned it into a major marker. It is the place where mood of the city used to be measured. Public demonstrations and parades used to pass by the tree.
Today most people arrange their important meetings by the tree. It remains the most definitive orientation marker for newcomers to the city. It is also part of the city coat of arms and will remain a historic marker for future generations.

One of the most common meet-up spots. You really cannot miss it. Right next to the municipality of Sliven, in the city centre. Moreover, it's implemented as a emblem in the town's logo. It's really old elm tree, alive for more than 1300 years and it's still blooming during the spring.

It's the symbol of the city but don't expect something fabulous :) An old tree in the center of the city that we (people from Sliven) love and value.

Sliven Center, bul. "Tsar Osvoboditel" 3, 8800 Sliven, Bulgaria
Very nice museum which seems to organise different type of events for locals. The area of the former fortress is large and rich in ruins, there are panels to explain their meaning. The view on the city is nice, even if the city has been brutally urbanised and industrialised in communist times.

Great place for a history learning, but also for a cultural events

What a fantastic welcome, we were the only tourists and looked after so well. Fantastic shop, wonderful for children, and oh my the cleanest toilets. Let alone a beautiful derelict castle. Thankyou

Interesting ruins, lots of history. However, info signs are very poor and do not give any details about the place. It would benefit from raising the tickets price and offer an audio guide for individual tourists.

A calm and relaxing place, keeping the century old spirit of Sliven. We love visiting with the kids. The staff is very friendly. They offer bow shooting at targets, historical costumes and other souvenirs and games.
Nedko Nedev — Google review
They let us shoot with bows, one intresting thing, and there was a cute rabbit.

Mall Galleria Burgas is the largest and most popular shopping center in Burgas, offering a wide range of international brands, open-air eateries, and a cinema. The upper level features well-known fast-food eateries and the beloved Playground with arcade and video games for children. Visitors can take a delightful break at JARO cafe and bar on the ground floor.
One of the best and most popular shopping centre in Burgas. It's worth visiting the Playground with kids because it's great fun for the little ones. Most EU brands are represented. On the third floor there is a cinema and restaurants. There are a few tables for so many people.

Car wash in the parking lot pathetic! You wait for 3 hours to get your car washed. Huge queues for COVID tests in front the mall. People stand for hours in winter/ under the rain instead of waiting somewhere inside the mall. There was enough empty space. Very poor organization. Lots of shops but poor quality and wrong product selection.

The Galleria mall is ok.There are many Shops and food stalls. What I dislike are the sales Personal from the Shops, they show no interest at any customers.Dont they know that without customers they will not have a job.Just saying hi or do you need any help will do,so that the customers feels welcome. The service Personal are more interested with talking on the phone etc.

Lovely shopping mall with great shops and coffee shops and limited fast food outlets.Plenty of seating areas throughout and entertainment places including cinema on top floor.Plenty of free parking in the vicinity.Jusy love it!

Definitely the largest mall in Burgas. It boasts an extensive variety of clothing, footwear, accessory stores, etc. On the upper level, you'll discover a selection of well-known fast-food eateries along with the much-loved Playground, featuring an impressive array of arcade and video games to entertain children. For a delightful break, I'd strongly suggest visiting JARO café and bar on the ground floor. They serve great coffee, refreshing juices, and delicious ice cream, all delivered with a warm smile. If you are by car, check out the parking space in the basement, it's huge and there even is a carwash available in case you would like to wash your car.

I wish this could be a pet friendly mall, like many shopping centres in Sofia. We came with our dog to the pet store but they wouldn’t let us walk inside the mall.

Good mall with lots of shops, cinema and eating areas. Quite a bit of rubbish flying around outside the doors and huge groups of smokers right outside the doors. Best mall in Burgas though and would go again.
Chopacheekoff — Google review
No air conditioning in the common areas, snail pace service at the food court, parking seems to be a free for all.

The mall has lots of facilities and shops the parking has not enough of parking including the underground parking. The underground parking has a car wash for some reason.

The administration allows visitors to smoke inside. It is better not to come to this shopping center with children.

Good location, huge shopping space with multiple shops inside. Places to eat and more. Looked for some massage chairs and did not find any. Would love to "kill" some time in one while the group "shops" around. Nice organised underground parking. Easy to navigate . Will visit again for some new shopping experiences

Sacred Place. Feels like heaven after a long travel. Great place to have a cup of coffee. Has a great variety of shops. The Lidl store inside is absolutely gracious.
Free wifi in all stores was a nice convenience. I have seen many alcoholic beverages before but this mall has the best booze shops I've seen in Bulgaria. Toilets were clean and large. I'm very satisfied by this complex.

This is a lovely place for a walk. There are many areas and benches to sit down and enjoy the view of the sea or the green areas. You can also have a lunch/snack/dinner at the numerous restaurants near the beach.

Beautiful for walks and strolls . Park is big and clean, has few playgrounds and in warm time of the year offers various events - summer theatre, public swimming pool, festivals, exhibitions… there are lots of cafes with traditional food and snacks

Lovely park with a lot of food stands (corn on the cob, popcorn, ice cream). It was always clean when I've been there. Also they seem to have a lot of festivals here so there's always something to do here.

Adorable, relaxing park, next to the sea and right in the heart of the city. Just between the central beach and the city center. There two main alleys, one right next to the sea and one in the park. There is plenty of parking sports nearby. If you decide to park on the street the price is 1 lev per hour.

A big park along the beach, I found it clean, with many playing grounds for kids, benches to rest in the shadow of the tall trees. You can serve a cocktail or a snack in the bars inside the park. Perfect for a run in the morning or at dawn.

It's a bit long walk, near the beach or a long the park but it is pleasant in hot weather to hide under the trees. There is nice playground for kids and climbing wheel next to fountain. We enjoyed walk with kids.

Great place to explore if you are in Burgas. Very nice in the morning when it's cooler, there is plenty of shade. 😁 many benches in shade!!! 😉
There are lots of sculptures and monuments to see, and I really like the walk through as early as the sprinklers are on.
Some highlights are the view above the pier, and the anti fascist monument is very powerful work.
The hobbit house and art around it is really nice and you have better restaurants at the top end, IMO. The bottom has the nicer garden areas, so it's good to explore all the way. The sandcastle are is pretty good for 4 lev entry. You won't spend to long in it bur it's got some impressive sandcastles. Would love to know when they build them to watch.
I walk from top to bottom then go into the city center.
There is a train that we enjoyed on the way back through. I RECOMEND! You get a nice breeze 😌 👌

Very large park on the Black Sea coast of Burgas. Paved paths make for easy walking or biking. There are many ways to get to the beach from the park. The park is full of sculptures, flowers, trees, and fountains. It was very hot when we were there but it was not difficult to find shade and a place to buy a drink or ice cream. I suggest parking on the street across the street from the center of the park. Have fun!

St. Anastasia Island is a small 2.5-acre island that dates back to medieval times and has a 1914 lighthouse. The boat ride to the island takes about half an hour, and visitors have two hours to explore it, including its museum, church, and restaurant. Although the museum and church are worth visiting for their historical significance, the restaurant is known for its fresh seafood offerings.
"St. Anastasia Island (Bulgarian: остров св. Анастасия, ostrov Sv. Anastasiya, formerly called Bolshevik Island, остров Болшевик) is a small Bulgarian island in the Black Sea. It is located in the Gulf of Burgas, 1.5 km off the coast near Chernomorets, at 12 metres above sea level, and covers a territory of one hectare. The island is built of volcanic rocks. It is the only inhabited island off the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. "

The boat takes 30 minutes to get to the island. You have two hours to explore it, which us perfectly fine because the island is very small. There is a museum, a church and a restaurant. Neither is worth visiting, unfortunately. Still the views are great and its a relaxing place. If you travel with kids, ask them to find the well with the hidden pirate treasure. It will make an entertaining, albeit short quest.

Great place for half-day sightseeing. Museum and church are must visit. The island is small, however, full with history and charm. Beautiful views. The restaurant offers very good fresh sea food! Was lucky to be there during herbs festival on Jun 24th, as there was small local business bazaar.

A wonderful little island! There isn't too much to see but the serenity and the beauty is worth taking a trip for! There's a neat restaurant where I ordered a single meatball, which was delicious. Also the guy at the entrance to the main exhibit didn't show up for work so we saw the whole thing free of charge. The chapel is also a pleasant sight. I would recommend this place to anyone, the boat trip by itself was a blast!
