To know what it feels like you would have to make time for yourself and live it as it should.

Park offering guided car & bike tours leading to unique rock formations, plus a museum & camping.
Fantastic landscape, nothing you’ve seen before. It’s a 40km drive through, you follow the ranger’s car, then you have five stops. It takes 3-3.5 hours all together. The stops are arranged at the most interesting looking spots and there is a wooden viewing platform arranged. You can do this with a normal car, but a pick up would be better - loads of dust. The guide was speaking Spanish only but it was easy to understand. It’s a nice day out. The latest entry is 4pm (I think!). From their leaflets I learnt that you can enter by bicycle and they do full moon walks too - this must be fantastic- they literally have a full moon calendar ready for the year. The entrance was 10K for locals, 20K for foreigners (April 2024).

We did the conventional tour cause all the others tours weren’t available. The park is ok but not that incredible as we read. The conventional tour is on your own car. We did 5 stops during the 3h tour. On of them was in the “Museum” they called. Was a joke ! The stop was in this building completely not according with the landscape and just a coffee shop more expensive from the coffee shop at the park entrance !! Mostly of the customers were complaining with absolutely reason to do it !
At the end you are obligated to buy something if you don’t have anything to drink, but luckily the toilets were free and necessary.
Before to come, put down your expectation and specially if you are planning to visit The ischigualasto park and The Talampaya Park, start with the Ischigualasto... otherwise... will be totally dissatisfied about it.
If is not a must for you, I recommend to do the 150 national road from or to San Jose Jachal and you will have a free tour into the Ischigualasto Park and absolutely much better and stunning... the lamas were along the read many times 🦙🦙🦙

Experience by night, full moon.
1000 pesos to enter in the park, need a car, and follow the guide during 10 minutes in the lunar valley. We didn't have a reservation and were lucky because we could buy tickets when arrived.
Then, the group walk during 1h30 in the dry landscape, you can take pictures , it is a real pleasure for photographers. It is very quiet. 9:30pm-23:30pm
Don't forget to make the experience barefoot !
Aur? Gumy — Google review
My fiancé and I did a tour of Ischigualasto to do an episode of our travel blog on YouTube and we loved the experience! Not only did we go during the day, we went at night for the tour of the full moon.
It was nice to do both tours because you don’t see the same things (obviously one is during the day and the other at night) but we also go to different areas.
Our guide was great at telling us the history as well as keeping it funny — we were giggling the entire time.
There’s a nice pit stop in the middle to recharge with food, coffee, and water at your own cost.
If you’re going during the day, the last tour is at 5 and you have to hurry to make it back for the queue to pay for the full moon tour which usually starts around 9:15-9:30. Plan accordingly!

Interesting visiting scheme. You go around with your own car, or a travel company car...it's a 40km ride with stops, which takes around 3 hours in total. Very interesting geologic views. The sand color varies according to the geologic period, from low, middle and high Triassic Periods

Fascinating place. 250 million years of earth's geological history in a fantastic landscape. Dinosaur fossils and more. You can visit either in your own car or as part of a tour, though always on a schedule with a park guide always present. Tour takes around 3 hours with various stop off points at the most interesting formations and at the palaeontology station to look at real dinosaur fossils. Wonderful and amazing place.

Historic place. Land of dinosaurs. Time travel to the beginning. Beautiful.
Parque Nacional Talampaya is a protected area known for its unusual eroded rock formations, dinosaur remains, and archaeological sites. The canyons and sandstone cliffs are an impressive testament to the power of water erosion. Visitors must enter by guided tour, but the standard 2-hour trip is included in the entrance fee and involves little walking. With over 60,000 hectares of pure nature to explore, this park offers a unique and breathtaking experience that should not be missed.
An astonishing place, unique on Earth and really breathtaking, more than 60.000 hectares of pure nature makes this place perfect for a long trip between the canons. Also, it has a lot of surprises on the excursion. Must!

Wow, just wow! This experience was so much fun for us.
I have to be honest, it didn’t start off amazing. The host was a bit cold to me (an English speaker) and the bus was a bit stinky but once we got over that, we had a phenomenal trip. Our host warmed up, the places we were shown were beautiful (and so was the knowledge!) we enjoyed the snacks they provided during our excursion, which even included alcohol to our surprise! The only negative thing? As a tourist (AMERICAN) I paid 3 x’s the amount to enter the park than locals but they only have some of the plaques with English. In order to understand everything, my partner had to translate for me. But overall, super impressed.
We paid $8000 pesos each for the excursion plus the park entrance fees ($20,000 total).
You CANNOT fly a drone here without obtaining a permit from the government. (This can be easily done with you permit from the USA but needs to be done before hand).
They do not offer sunrise or sunset tours because of the predators in the area.

Beautiful park with of course the canyon, various pretty stone formations and animals. A must visit when in the area.
There are three guided tours provided by the national park. You can not go into the park by yourself! There is a simple big bus tour, a 4x4 tour and a smaller bus tour with a 2.5 km hike. All tours do almost the same with one additional feature. Some dried fruits, nuts and drinks are provided, which is nice. Tours are in Spanish. They all have the same thing in common: get you to 4 or 5 places within the time frame. This means that on- route they do not stop. We saw a group of Mara's, which I was not able to photograph, never saw one again in my life, bummer.
Prices for the tours are 7000, 8500 and 10000 (around, March 2023) pesos for the simple, 4x4 and smaller bus tour respectively. I would opt to go for the 4x4 because you can sit on the roof. They do not differ much.

Very impressive place to see the rock formations and the carvings. We did the version of the tour where you can sit on top of the truck and highly recommend doing that. It does add up though, as it was around 55k for entrance and for the excursion for 2 people. You can pay with debit card. Also the tour is in spanish only but you do get a sheet with English text if requested, but you'll get more out the tour if you know at least some Spanish!

Talampaya is a UNESCO site and also one of the seven wonders of Argentina!
Visiting this place makes me understand why it’s the most expensive national park in Argentina and it’s worth it (in my opinion). It reminds me of the Grand Canyon but with the Utah and Arizona colored rocks. I fell in love with how you could hear your return echoes in the canon as we screamed goal.
If we had to recommend only one park in Argentina, Talampaya would be it!
We spent $20,000 pesos in total for one foreigner and one local to visit and do the tour (which honestly is what you’d spend for a day at a park In the 🇺🇸). The tour is obligatory because you can’t visit the park on your own. Loved it none the less!
Careful on the road as there’s many animals!

The region of A Los Seismiles is characterized by towering mountains that emerge from a barren landscape, flanked by salt flats and glacial lakes. The area can be accessed via a winding paved road west of Fiambala, which passes through the high desert and past striking red rock formations known as the Quebrada Angosturas. Despite its stunning beauty, this route offers no services except for a seasonal hotel located midway between Fiambala and the Chilean border.

The Museo del Hombre is an outstanding exhibition that houses invaluable historical artifacts. Unfortunately, it is not widely promoted or advertised. Within its walls lies one of the most significant anthropological discoveries from the 1990s on a global scale. It is truly surprising to find such a remarkable artifact in this museum. Abra del Infiernillo is a magnificent and unforgettable place located at an altitude of over 3000 meters above sea level. Visitors can take photos with llamas, enjoy splendid nature, buy local crafts, and interact with adorable local animals such as baby goats, llamas, and sheep. The weather at the top changes suddenly, so it's advisable to bring a coat. Although some parts of the route are deteriorated, the breathtaking views make it worth a visit.

In the viewpoint you can buy handicrafts and pamper the local animals. There are baby goats, llamas, sheep, they are a love and let themselves be pampered. I recommend always wearing a coat because the place is over 3000 meters above sea level, it is cool and there is a lot of wind.

Being able to take photos with some llamas from the place was the most beautiful thing for me...🥰
The weather at the top changes suddenly and the 3100 meters above sea level makes itself felt. I would still come back!
If they fixed the route it would be spectacular, since there are parts that are quite deteriorated.

Specialty Museums
This museum is dedicated to Mother Earth or Pachamama in northern Argentina, Bolivia and Peru. It features interesting statues of shamans and indigenous motifs on the pretty stone walls around the complex. There are also exhibitions dedicated to natural sciences and the arts. The museum is worth seeing if you're ever in the area, especially if you're interested in traditional indigenous cultures.
this museum is worth any travel! Must see once in Your life what this artist has created in person. Excellent presentation how the indios lived and in any case ask to see his huge paintings in the last building. You will never forget
take at least two hours to appreciate all

A museum in the middle of the landscapes. Interesting mineral and stone mining collection. Demonstration of the valley and its minerals, very visual. Show of indigenous people and their tools, household and history. Cruz collection, his paintings in two separate galleries. And a gallery shop with some handcraft. Very monumental with its large scale sculptures.

REALLY COOL! absolutely worth the 1 hour drive from cafayete. Massive outdoor art museum - basically one gigantic mosaic... the amount of work this must have taken is astounding. Must see 👍

Observatorio Astronómico Ampimpa offers a unique and incredible experience in the midst of an imposing landscape surrounded by the beauty of the Valley's hills. During weekends, visitors can use the telescope to observe sunspots during the day and marvel at stars, Saturn, its rings, detailed views of the moon, and even solar flares at night. The observatory provides comfortable accommodation in cabins named after constellations and celestial bodies.
A truly unique place and incredible experience. It is open only during week-ends. During the day you can use the telescope to look at the sun and see the sun spots, but the magic happens at night. You can spend the night at the observatory and look at the stars through the same telescope that during the week is used by professional astronomers. They serve you dinner and you sleep in one of the few cabins, all named after constellations and celestial bodies. There is a gravel road to reach the observatory, but it is only 100 meters or so (300 feet) from the paved main road and you do not need an SUV to get there. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering how unique this experience is.

The observatory was fantastic! It was just simply magical seeing the stars, Saturn and it's ring, the moon in detail and the sun including solar flares.
We booked it very last minute and not speaking Spanish could have been a hindrance, but everyone was very helpful and explained things to us.
The accommodation was very comfortable and the food excellent. It was the best tortilla we've had in Argentina.
The surrounding landscape is stunning and there's a nice walk clearly signposted from the observatory into the hills. It was lovely to see the sunset.
Seeing the sunrise was stunning. We even got to sit down with the lead scientist and his son who translated for us.
Such a brilliant experience, would recommend it to everyone. It was very well priced and inside our backpacking budget.
We got the bus from Tafi del Valle to Ampimpa and it was so easy. The bus was on time in the morning and picked us up without any problems at 10am to continue to Cafayete.

Ruta Provincial 307 Kilómetro 107.5, T4137 Ampimpa, Tucumán, Argentina
The Quilmes Ruins archaeological museum is a new and well-done museum displaying artifacts from the ancient Quilmes people. The ruins are truly impressive and the whole scenery is spectacular. It would take roughly an hour to walk around them and the museum itself is worth the visit.
We were not sure whether this was worth the drive from Cafayate - but yes it absolutely is! The museum is new, very well done and informative. The ruins are truly impressive and the whole scenery is spectacular. I would plan around 45min-1h for the museum (incl short video) and 30-45min to walk around the ruins.
Dalia — Google review
Truly amazing archaeological site where you can walk around the ruins of an huge ancient pre-Incan citadel and sacred city that was built by the Quilmes native population about one thousand years before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors. The city was abandoned in the year 1665 after the Quilmes were defeated by the Spanish (and forcibly marched over 1400 Km away) and re-discovered only in the late 1800s. A small museum at the entrance contains some beautiful artifacts (mostly pottery) and shows a touching movie with the history of the place and the Quilmes population, setting the stage for your visit. You can visit with a guide or on your own. It is a most interesting, unique and moving experience. Highly recommended.

Incredible Native American museum and ruins! The museum is small but first class, very instructive and the showings are well done. On the outside, the ample ruins can be visited on foot and are very impressive, specially as seen from the highest points in the trail. Actually, if you have enough stamina, you can climb the center/left trail and then cross over to the one in the right; just be aware that some of the trail's highest parts aren't in top condition and could be dangerous (it's a *long* fall) so please be careful and exercise common sense at all times.
Durval Menezes — Google review
We went first to the museum watched a 20 min movie about the culture who lived here, traveled here and domestically lived and cultivated land and then were taken out by Spanish.

This was such an amazing little find, we just came across it, and decided to go there because somebody had told us about it. It’s a Ruins of an indigenous old Quilme town, which at its height, they believe had at least 6000 inhabitants. There’s a fantastic interpretive centre there with very knowledgable staff that showed us around and explained the history of the area. This entire valley has had villages of different tribes in it throughout the centuries. This one is from about 800 BC if I remember correctly, the entire Ruins has the most amazing barrel cactuses that I have ever seen outside of Arizona and Baja.

Fascinating history of the native Quilmes people and the atrocities ventured on them by the Spanish. Very emotionally moving and an important piece of Argentine history.

Great opportunity for a about 2 mile hike up into the hills after you seen the main ruins. The museum was interesting with pottery and burial urns. The film had English subtitles, other exhibits had little English explanations. Most notably Messi winning the World Cup was recorded in the timeline of history!

Highly recommend a visit to Quilmes if in the Cafayate region. Tremendous ruch history about a very brave people who defended their land and freedoms against colonialization for well over 100 years.
Take a guide to best understand the context and history, learn about ongoing archeological excavation work, and the lifestyle of the ancestors of those who lived here once.

Amazing site, a massive pre-incan citadel and sacred city, the biggest and best preserved in Argentina.
The museum attached to it is very informative and sets the scene for visiting the site itself.

Interesting place and to spend a couple of hours and only 3000 ARS entry. The museum has a short film (with English subtilites) and a few other small rooms with information and items to look at. You can walk around the ruins and get some amazing views of the surrounding scenery.
