How long is the drive from Obihiro to Sapporo?
The direct drive from Obihiro to Sapporo is 114 mi (183 km), and should have a drive time of 2 hrs 13 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Obihiro to Sapporo, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with Chitose, as well as top places to visit like Kofuku eki and Taushubetsu River Bridge, or the ever-popular Obihiro Racecourse.
Chitose, a city in Hokkaido, Japan, is known for being home to the largest international airport in the region, New Chitose Airport. It's also close to Sapporo and houses the Chitose Air Base. If you're traveling through this airport or exploring Hokkaido, don't miss out on trying some of the delectable delights available at various locations across the region.

Best stops along Obihiro to Sapporo drive
The top stops along the way from Obihiro to Sapporo (with short detours) are Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoiike), Sapporo Beer Museum, and Farm Tomita. Other popular stops include Royce Chocolate World, Obihiro Racecourse, and Moerenuma Park.
Obihiro Racecourse, located just a short drive away from the city's urban district, is home to the unique Banei Horse Racing, which is exclusive to Japan. The race track offers a variety of food options including local specialties like curry ramen and buta-don. Additionally, there is a mini area for kids to pet and feed the horses. Races are held on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon with new races starting every 30 minutes.
It was an amazing experience and something that’s only done in Obihiro! Banei horse racing apparently is only held here in Japan and nowhere else in the world.
The race track also offers a great selection of foods to enjoy while watching the horses like your typical foods: okonomiyaki, ramen but also some local specialties like curry ramen and buta-don.
For kids, the track also has a mini area where you can pet and feed the horses. Even if you dont know anything about horse racing, it was still an enjoyable time for me here.

**American Family Visiting**
This was an interesting visit. While it's a little bit of a trip to get from Sapporo to Obihiro Racecourse, it's likely worth the visit if you want to experience a type of weighted sled racing that can't be found anywhere else. The grounds consist of main building where gambling and seating is found along with a couple of small shops and restaurants both in and on the grounds.
You can either take a taxi to get here (which we did to get there) from the station, or if it's a nice day, the walk is not too bad (but still a walk!).
There is also a small petting area where small farm animals and even the huge horses are out and you can feed them (these horses are HUGE though).
The racing itself was interesting and while I understand this is traditional and that the animals aren't abused, it's tough to watch when whips are used, so if that bothers you, you may not want to go. The horses appear well cared for, the staff was friendly, and it was a lively crowd. You really have to get down at the race course level and walk/run along with them as the race goes.

Fun and interesting experience, everything was really well organised. The races are only on Saturday and Sundays starting at the afternoon, every 30 minutes there is a new race. We liked looking at the preparation for the race as well as the race itself which is very short. My husband even guessed the winning horse, unfortunately for non Japanese speakers it’s impossible to understand the gambling machines so we couldn’t do that.

Honestly, exactly what I was expecting. My daughter and I read Silver Spoon and decided to check this place out years ago. It has what you would expect of horse racing, tradition over some more modern practices perhaps. I don't think any animals are straight up abused though and the racing was amazing to see up close. Took about 2 hours of our day, but is a real hike from Sapporo!

I really interesting way of horse racing using Clydesdale horses pulling approximately 1 tonne of concrete blocks behind them over 5 Mounds of Earth. The track is not very long maybe 500 m but the excitement is very addictive

Carriage race of 1000kg-weight horses. Races on every weekend. Only one in the world here. Highly recommended.

Amazing! The size and power of the horses here are awe inspiring. There is a section at the side where you can admire some of these beasts up close and feed them carrots. They also had what looked to be ponies or hokkaidan horses.

The Kofuku eki bus stop is a pleasant location with ample farmland surroundings. It serves as an excellent destination for sightseeing, especially for couples and families, and features a cafe and souvenir store. Furthermore, the site has significant historical value and was even showcased on NHK travel TV program, making it quite well-known. The Taushubetsu River Bridge is an old rail bridge that lies submerged in the lake for most of the year due to the construction of the Nukabira Dam. However, during winters, when the lake's water level drops, it reappears and presents a mysterious object on the lake. The bridge has a rich history and offers beautiful scenery around its disused concrete structure. Sadly, it is falling apart now, and part of it may collapse in a few years.
Walk on the lake to there !
Ms Lem — Google review
When I go there in the end of January, it is nice weather so that I could go by my Honda fit which is not 4WD but no problem
at all, very lucky day I guess. All the lake's serface was iced so I could walk on it. 30-40min to Taushubetsu bridge by walk, which is a mysterious object on the lake. In the winter, because of lake's short water, the bridge seams to be emarged on the lake only in the winter.

Beautiful scenery around an old railroad bridge. With the construction of the Nukabira Dam, the bridge became submerged for part of every year. It's now falling apart, and part of the bridge is likely to fall down in the next few years.

(Translated by Google) [Old Shihoro Line Taushubetsu River Bridge Ruins]
Concrete arch bridge on the former National Railways Shihoro Line
1st Hokkaido Heritage, Quasi-Railway Monument
When the bridge is reflected in Lake Nukabira on a clear, windless day, it looks like a pair of glasses.
Also, because it is an arch bridge, it has another name, ``Glasses Bridge,'' and its appearance, reminiscent of the ruins of an ancient Roman aqueduct, is said to harmonize with the surrounding scenery.
It was originally a bridge built over the Taushubetsu River, a tributary of the Otofuke River, when the Japanese National Railway Shihoro Line (discontinued in 1987) opened to Tokachi-Mimata Station in 1939.
In 1955, the Nukabira Dam, an artificial dam lake for hydroelectric power generation, was built, and the area around the bridge sank into the lake, so the Shihoro Line was replaced with a new line built to avoid the lake.
Although the railroad tracks on the bridge were removed at that time, the bridge itself was left in the lake, where it remains to this day.
Lake Nukabira is an artificial lake, and the water level changes dramatically depending on the season and power generation, so there are times when the entire bridge is submerged, and other times when the water level is so low that you can see the entire bridge.
Because of its appearance, it is also called the ``phantom bridge.''
Since being submerged in the dam, it has been left to its own devices and could collapse at any time.
It looks beautiful no matter what season you visit, so if you have the chance, you should definitely go.

Rokka Forest is a renowned garden belonging to a prominent confectionery creator who incorporates flowers from the garden into their designs. The outdoor areas are stunning and visitors can admire various exhibits showcasing beautiful artworks, mostly of Hokkaido's landscapes. Additionally, there are indoor exhibitions featuring exquisite artwork, including the original Rokkatei art and even a wallpaper room. The galleries and garden are both impressive, as is the accompanying cafe which offers excellent fare.

Nestled amidst towering mountains, Lake Shikaribetsu is a picturesque destination offering a range of activities. In winter, it transforms into an enchanting ice village and becomes a hub for snowmobiling. With a circumference of 16 kilometers and surrounded by forests and high mountains, the lake boasts a mystical ambiance. Families with young children can delight in encounters with various wildlife while adults can immerse themselves in the serene atmosphere.

Lake Shikaribetsu has a snow and ice festival in this time. You can stay in the ice hotel and enjoy ice bar on the lake. Also they have a hot spa on the lake. Tkis is the really special hot spa you can enjoy only in this period. That's a terrific experience you'll ever have.

Highly recommended for family with small kids. Kids can enjoy delightful encounters with natural creatures like fox, chipmunks, crayfish, ducks, and so many insects while adults can submerge themselves into the soul-cleansing atmosphere.
Unfortunately, we went there on a cloudy/rainy day and couldn't see the stars at night. But it is known to be one of the best places in Hokkaido for the star watching.
We had a lunch at the restaurant called Lake View in the Fusui (風水) Hotel. Food was good, and it also offered a stunning view of the lake. We could buy a discount ticket for both lunch and onsen (hot spring bath) at the hotel. The onsen had the rotenburo (open-air bath tub) where we could see the whole lake. Totally recommended.
We will visit the lake again for canoeing and trekking soon.

Hoshino Resorts Tomamu The Tower is an upscale lodging with elegant rooms and free breakfast. The resort offers ski rentals, a golf course, and a variety of amenities and restaurants. The location provides beautiful views and a serene ambience, making it feel like a paradise in the middle of nowhere. However, some guests found the rooms to be somewhat outdated. The staff is praised for their professionalism and friendliness.
My family and I had a great time at the hoshino resort. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that the lounge closes early and so if you wish to read or work or relax outside of your room in an evening, it’s not really possible. Otherwise it was a lovely stay and we would definitely visit again.

We stayed for one night. The rooms are clean and well maintained. Staff are kind with professional attitude. We had breakfast buffet included, the food was correct, made with local ingredients. French toast was excellent. There are many stores around the resort, it is a very large area. So you need to use the shuttle bus to move around (every 15min the bus comes). Tomamu is a very chilly area, recommend to bring some warm clothes if you planning to walk around at night.

Absolutely beautiful location and ambience. It felt like the place was located in the middle of nowhere but at the same time it felt like you were living in your own paradise. The amenities and restaurants were superb and had everything you need. I would have given a perfect score, but the rooms look and feel outdated and somewhat took away from the charm of the place. Gorgeous views from the room though. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly too!

The hotel is quite dated, ski resort not very exciting. Key problem was hygiene. There were lots of bugs. Most disgusting experience was lunch in the ski area. Plenty of live bugs in the restaurant. However even more dead bugs on the floor and nobody bothers to clean it up.
Juergen Pulm — Google review
The room was decent but I'm giving the hotel five stars for the overall easy ski in/out easy access to some of the most amazing trails.
I paid around ¥32500 for one night with breakfast but I booked the same day after my flight got cancelled.
The room comes with access to many restaurants around the hotel premises, including a sightseeing lift ticket and a free passport to the Ice Village and Mina Mina Beach.
They also have ski rental equipment which costs around ¥12000 for the full kit per day and the ski lift ticket was around ¥5000 for 4+ hours.
I lived in Colorado for two years and this was the best snowboarding experience I have ever had.
If you like winter sports you must visit Hokkaido and stay at this resort to experience the magical powder.

We stayed here for our honeymoon.
Although neither of us ski I cannot recommend this highly enough. There are many activities for everyone, some on site, some not but bus service is provided.
The rest area with complimentary champagne is, of course, a huge bonus!
Beautiful views, very clean room, helpful staff, and great buffet style dining areas.
There are a handful of other restaurants, a wine bar and a clothes shop, all of which are very high quality.
People might baulk at the price, but you get what you’re paying for.
I look forward to my next visit!

Love the natural beauty of God's creation in this place. So vast the land, so much greenery and up close to the animals, not forgetting Cloud 9 experience. I rate the room 3 stars as i find the room slightly run down and the walls are so thin. We could hear our talking. We happened to stay sandwich in between 2 families. They love to discuss their daily activities at the corridor muvh to my annoyance. Speak so loudly in cantonese, knocking the door so loudly to wake their members. 😏 The service is very good, staffs are polite and cheerful all the time even at 4.30am.

Got 37 floor but only 3 lifts.
Peak time need to wait for more than 15min…
All the restaurants super far away from tower.
And the link way got no heater.
The buffet is quite disappointing.
The whole design of the resort is very poor and unreasonable.
Not worth that price….

Aside from being a bit old and dated , there’s nothing inherently bad about the Tower (my bathroom had a bit of a smell though) . The staff are immensely friendly , professional and helpful - and they truly run a operation as good as can be when you consider the SHEER VOLUME of people that are staying here. There are truly an astronomical number of mainland Chinese (you know there’s a lot of them when the hotel staff actually prefer to speak to me , a 华人, in mandarin because some are more fluent in it than English ) that there’s a lot of them. You will have to queue for a lot of things and the hotel bears the weight of this 人上人海 quantum of people somewhat poorly at times. Aside from that , the food is very good and there’s a plethora of activities around for winter sports .

- Just came back from the trip 29-30 April. The weather was windy and chilly, it was not good to play outdoor for long. Maybe June-September is better season.
- The terrace where u can see the cloud has not open yet, so do check the schedule of activities that u want to do before booking. All activities have specific duration, and not open for all the year round.
- the tower hotel is closer to farm, outdoor center, hotalu restaurants than the Resonair. The big view from bedroom and living room is fantastic. Although room may be a bit smaller than Resonair but it is cheaper and better location, I think.
- they can let u enter the room early as soon as the room available. We could enter the room at 12:30 actually, great!
- There is a shutter bus to minami beach. U will be given a voucher for breakfast and most of guys chose buffet at nippuri located at Resonair hotel. I didnt not know there is a bus to that restaurant so I had to walk a long way.
- Transportation is very convenient. There is rapid train from Sapporo, shinsapporo, minami chitose to tomamu station. A bus waiting there to take u to the hotel, so no worries.
- to conclude, if u intend to go, u should plan early, go to the website the check the duration of activities first, pick up the days with good weather .
- although we went in april, but i think this is good place for skiing.

Attracted by the Hoshino brand and the chapel on water. Felt overpriced after check out. We booked both twin and treble rooms. the treble rooms had better view. But the rooms are definitely outdated and in desperate need of major refitting. Need to walk 10 min to the restaurant area. We waited 40 min for the Italian dinner. At 8.30pm we escorted our elderly members to the chapel on water in which they climb stairs and outdoor corridor to reach. It was quite tiring for them. The onsen also needs a lift by their buses. it is not a walkable distance. Breakfast at Hal was ok. Overall, everywhere is crowded. After checkout our family went for the farm ride. But really i don't think the rental gasoline golf car is ever needed cos it is perfectly walkable from parking lot even for our 90 yo father. Would not recommend staying at the resort again. Did not find the stay justifiable.

Bro, this place is a racket. We spent $400 per night for a very dingy room, with holes in the wall. The pictures of the room looked completely different online, and when we showed the front desk the pictures of the room we booked vs the room they gave us, they told us that they didn't have any more of that room type available and that they would not give us a partial refund. For full transparency, we booked through Agoda; but I've booked through travel sites before and never been treated quite like this by the hotel. Separately, I don't know if it's always like this or we just picked a bad time but the clientele here is AWFUL. So much screaming through the hallways, unsupervised teenagers being teenagers, the crowds in the hallways give me claustrophobia it's so crowded.
I've been so impressed with the client service all throughout Japan but not here. This is one of the worst hotel experiences I've had (second only to the time I got bed bugs from a hotel in Kyrgyzstan).

We're not guests of the hotel and did not stay the night but we wanted to leave a review to commend the staff at the hotel. We came for the Ice Village held at the hotel premises but forgot to check the timing of the last bus beforehand. When the gentleman at concierge realised that it was the last train, he immediately called his colleague to ferry us to the train station. Kudos to the two gentleman, we made it!
The resort also have a number of activities like an indoor pool and a ski area where we saw many people snowboarding and skiing. Will likely come back again for the good service and facilities to snowboard.

Hotel service very nice! The staff will wait for you once you alighted at Tomamu JR station, their shuttle bus will send you directly to the tower. I love my tatami Japanese room! Spacious! There is a lot of free activities there too! 3days is never enough! Will definitely go back again!!

An absolutely stunning location with what feels like endless Restaurants and Activites. And that's apart from the picturesque skiing facilities located at Tomamu. The Tower is located right at the end of the main slope, so you can pretty much ski straight into the hotel!
Staff were endlessly helpful and always willing to help or even just say good evening around the resort.
My reasoning for the 4 star review is solely based on the elevators in each tower. There's 3 elevators in each tower - but I've never hated elevators more than when we stayed here. We were there for 5 days and the shortest time we had to wait for the elevator was 5 minutes - longest at peak was at least 20 minutes (and we ended up taking the stairs). Not sure how it's all set up but that part was so bad that it's really affected the experience, sadly.
Otherwise, it was an amazing location and I'd love to return at some point in the future.

Beautiful waterfall with the same beautiful blue water as the Blue Pond down the road. You view the waterfall from a very high bridge and while the waterfall itself is lovely, I thought the surrounding view of the mountains and forests was even more beautiful. Worth stopping by for the views if you're in the area! Parking area was a little unclear.

The waterfalls is a nice scenic item to tick off the list. There not much to do there other than walk along the bridge to see the waterfalls really.
You could go to one of the onsens I guess but the main attraction there is the waterfall.
The river running below the bridge shows the cloudy blue water which is iconic to the area.

Good place to stop by if you are here for the blue pond, etc. 30 mins walk from the blue pond - or less than 5 mins drive by car.
The waterfall was lovely - not too big but strong enough and yet delicate. It also offered a nice view with snowy mountain at the back.
You cannot get close to the waterfall - you can see it from the bridge. Pretty empty in end of April, 2021 (though it was weekend). Wish I could see it from different angle too (not only from above but from the riverside, etc.).

This waterfall is a must-visit during the winter season. The frozen ice and snow covering the waterfall, coupled with its stunning never-frozen blue water, is a sight to behold. The clear sky and the beautiful Daisetsuzan mountain range in the backdrop add to the charm of the place. Although the area was initially quite crowded with several tour buses, we were fortunate enough to have the entire place to ourselves once they left.

These waterfalls are rather special as they came out from the cliffs. They made a spectacular sight when you watched them from the iron bridge. Everthough it's already spring, this place was so cold that there were still snow cover found everywhere. Making the place rather picturesque. Furthermore, the setting sun added more colours to the whole place .....it's mesmerising!
c ph (Pink Gardenia) — Google review
This is a nicer alternative no matter the weather. The bridge gives unprecedented access to the falls and it's a soaring beauty. Better yet get a day pass for the onsen right behind it. It's relaxing in the summer rain and perfect for a pass over
Clarence Yeung — Google review
It is not a big waterfall but the scenery is amazing as there were mountain views as well. easy to find a parking lot and if you are feeling fit you can consider climbing up the volalcano evacuation centre, 286 steps to the top. the mountain view there is even greater!

I went during winter n it's quite cold.. need to really wear appropriate clothing when heading over. It's nice seeing everything cover in snow, so magical. Won't wanna say whether it's recommended because it's up to individual.

Absolutely breathtaking.
I visited this in December Winter so it was extremely cold.
I was able to capture quite a few pictures and there was a few tourists. Best shots are on the bridge heading towards Mt.Tokachi.
Parking is available and free. Just a 5 min walk to see this.
I would recommend this place to visit! 5/5

The parking area very near, easy to access. It’s very windy, full protection recommend when you go on the bridge. The air very cold, and refreshing. The view is stunning.

Gorgeous waterfall with a truss bridge against the snowy mountain backdrop. It is an easy walk from the car park. If you have time, check out the stairs and walk up to the Sabo facility. Fun little work out and very interesting information centre

Very blue water and quite nice to view it from the bridge. There is a gallery with very good illustration of the preventive measures of volcanic activities at the top of the hill if you do not mind to 286 step to reach it.

a waterfall with funny name, white beard waterfall. the name was given the shape of water falling down is like grand father white beard. the water is a hot spring water and it changes color after meeting mineral from rock in a water. it's beautiful color and loved to see it.

Breathtaking, majestic, serene view. How can you not visit this place if you came to Hokkaido!
Will come again next year to slowly enjoy the view as too rushing following tour trip this round!!!!

Arrived at 6:00 in the morning. There were no people yet and can park the car at the roadside near the bridge.
The waterfall is worth a visit, if spending a night at Onsen hotels around the spot.

I haven't discovered much of Hokkaido yet, so was excited when I found this place. It's beautiful, with convenient parking across the street. Not too crowded on a weekday either. It was also rainy the day we went though. The bridge is sturdy but it is built upwards, so may feel weird to some while walking across it. There is also a 286 step staircase close by but it doesn't lead to a nicer view, just a parking lot. It was a nice exercise though! Overall, worth the quick stop to see a beautiful waterfall and river.
Vinny F — Google review
The White Beard Waterfall in winter is indeed beautiful. The color of the stream is beautiful, and the small houses nearby have thick cream hats on their heads.

Spectacular! One waterfall with so much going on. Don't forget to take in the view on the other side of the waterfall!

Lots of tourists
Can view the frozen water from the bridge
Beautiful view
Ng Gilbert — Google review
The parking area is foc but it was crowded with other tour buses and tour groups when we visited. There is a short walk after crossing the road down the car/bus park where you will arrive at a metal bridge suspended over the river below. On one side if you look downwards, you will be able to see the majestic waterfall just below with blue water cascading down to join the river as it flows underneath the bridge that you are standing on. Far away in the distance you will be able to see multiple mountains/peaks and even spot one that is smoking continuously! When we visited in 2nd week of oct in mid afternoon, the whole place was teeming with flying lady birds of all colors and sizes. Sadly, due to the sheer number of visitors, many lady birds ended squashed on the bridge. There is a toilet facilities next to the carpark but understandably as this place is heavily visited by tourists, there was a long line of people queueing to use the toilets.

Unkai Terrace is an alpine observation deck accessible via cable car, offering surreal vistas of mountains and clouds. The view is absolutely stunning, and visitors should check the weather on the website before going to ensure optimal cloud conditions. Wait times for the gondola can be long, so plan accordingly if wanting to see sunrise from the top. Visitors should avoid purchasing macaroons from the cafe as they are overpriced and small in size.
Nice view, not so crowded but can be very windy do mind your belongings!
Teck Wei Chin — Google review
Absolutely worth a visit. Come early to get ahead of crowds, expect long lines of 20-30mins waiting times or more for popular photo spots (e.g. Cloud9) at peak times. Open from 4 to 8 (last gondola up is at 8am, last gondola down is at 9am when it closes). Clouds are there from 6-ish to 7:30-ish before they dissipate and clear up (crowd dies down once clouds clear so quite empty closer to 9). It really depends on the weather. It's free to go up at least once if you're at Hoshino or Club Med (club med is within walking distance to the gondolas, Hoshino needs a bus or you can drive over and park). Soft serve is highly recommended if you have to get something from the pricey menu which is quite limited (limited food options).
Edit: As weather is unpredictable, might take a few morning trips up to Unkai Terrace to be 'above the clouds'. If it's misty at main photo spots, you can try walking up the hike path behind Cloud 9 photo spot to see if you can get above the clouds for a great view.

Well worth a visit, beautiful viewpoint to admire the surrounding countryside.
Nice green ski route is straighter and gentler than the twisting forest route if you don't accidentally choose the intermediate slope on the way down😂

Unkai terrace is the starting point of our <Great Nature Ride> cycling tour in Hokkaido. While it may be very touristy, the natural phenomenon & stunning sea of clouds coming in on a clear day provides an exceptional ecperience for our cyclists on this tour. We will continue to keep this in our cycling itinerary
Shangrila Cycling Tours - SCT — Google review
One of the highlights of our trip to Hokkaido. Should never miss the Unkai. Though during the time when we were there, they said it will only be 30% of clouds, but to our surprise it was really a great view from up there. There was a line going up to the cable car rides, but it was worth it. You can get coffee and some snack too but don't expect too much as the taste is just ordinary. The view is the one that was really breath taking.
Dapple del Mundo — Google review
You can see the sunrise in the morning. Yh3 place is open from 5.30 to 8 am
So plan your travel accordingly..
It really nice to watch..depends upon your luck & climate you can see the view
Renga raj — Google review
We reached 15 minutes before opening time and there was already a queue for the cable car, but we didn't have to wait too long.
There are types of unkai, the one shown in the photos is the Tomamu Unkai, so at least we saw some unkai. If I were to travel back again, I would definitely consider staying a few days at the resorts below to try my luck and hopefully see the Pacific Ocean Unkai which looks much more beautiful.
Andy Lau — Google review
Much depend on luck if you able to see the cloud. It was really long queue even we arrived 5am at the Gondola. And you need to buy ticket so you will queue longer than the hotel guest. But it quite the services was quite fast.
Personally don't feel worthy to wake up at 4am to catch this 😂

The Unkai terrace has lots of great viewing areas and unique structures. Be sure to check out the Cloudwalk viewing structure.
Jeff Fraser — Google review
A little over-rated and misleading photos. It is just a ride into the morning mist like going getting in Malaysia. The cable car ride takes more than 10 min and it is quite fun.
Eng Siong Lee — Google review
We are so lucky able to catch the sea of clouds - 21 July 2023 5.15am. The gondola start operate at 4am, we arrived about 4.15am and wait about 45mins for gondola.
YK Ow — Google review
Absolutely stunning view. Be sure to check the website before you go to make sure the weather is right for the clouds. When we went it was only 30% but was still breathtaking.
Also be prepared to wait a long time to get on the gondola. If you want to see the sunrise from the top you must get there well before the first gondola starts and line up.
Also don't buy the macaroons from the cafe, they are very small and not worth ¥700. The soda and ice cream was nice though.
Ashleigh Dollin — Google review
Talk about a breathtaking experience! One minute the landscape is bathed in sunlight and the next, snowflakes are falling so heavily that you can barely see in front of you. It's a scene straight out of a movie.
And if you're looking for a unique drink experience, the creative drinks downstairs are a must-try. The snow-themed drinks are especially popular with the kids, but don't worry, they have ok quality options for adults too. It would be even better if some snacks were available, though. Just remember to clean up after you've used the area. 😏
If you're not skiing down, the gondola is the only way to get up and down. But the ride is totally worth it - the views from the gondola are breathtaking, and you'll get an unforgettable experience. Enjoy the romantic ride with the love ones. 4 at a time 😜
Chrisy Macau — Google review

The Blue Pond is a beautiful man-made pond located in the scenic province of Biei. The pond is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful blue color and peaceful atmosphere. After being chosen as the wallpaper for Apple Inc., the Blue Pond has become one of the top sights in Japan.
Rental car driving and the roads are twisty but enjoyable to drive.
Google maps helped. 👍
If you're on a tour bus or in a tour group, you'll have no problem.
Very beautiful thing to see.
It can get busy, but you'll get your opportunity to get some great pictures in.
Fyi if you're driving. You'll have to pay ¥500 (less than $5) for parking, when you're leaving.
Booth is just before you exit the parking to get back to the road.
db2 able — Google review
amazing, it was real in front of my eyes (not just on the Apple wallpaper) !! there were many different angles looking into the blue pond, many different reflections of the sky too. the kind of blue is very special, not the sky blue, not the deep-sea blue, kind of turquoise blue but it glowed a bit. not sure my pictures captured the ambience.
Ernest T — Google review
A lovely place to take a relaxing stroll along the artificially created blue pond and it's tranquil surroundings. The blue water is an effect of the aluminum that has seeped into the water and reflected from the sunlight.
Recommended for a nice quick visit for some photography opportunities. There is also public toilets available a this area.
Ting Ting — Google review
Not a very huge pond but the water in the pond is stunning. I guess depending on the time of the day and whether it is sunny or cloudy, the water will give a slight greenish hue or stunning turquoise colour.
I would recommend going early in the morning to avoid tourists.
The carpark is 500Yen Which you pay when you exist. There is a toilet.
If you have time, you can drive further up the road (about 4mins) to Shirahige Waterfall.
peter liew — Google review
Simply beautiful even though the pond was frozen. It was amazing to catch a glimpse of this lovely blue pond during different season, the beginning of Spring. Worth the effort to pop by.
Sisilyn — Google review
Nice experience. When you first enter, you will not feel that the water is blue. Move more and you'll start to see more blue water.
Taxis cost 4900¥ to reach there. You can take a rental bicycle from the Biei station. If I remember correctly, the distance b/w station and blue pond is more than 21 kms and it will take more than 1 hour to reach there.
Shubham Gupta — Google review
Although the area is small, it is worth the stop. The pond is beautiful to look at with a scenic view of the dams waterfall. Parking is 500¥ per vehicle though there are a few areas prior you can pull to the side and walk to the parks many walking paths. There's a small shop that is a bit pricey but holds some cute trinkets and yummy snacks.
Relik Starr — Google review
Pretty and very blue lake but a very long drive to get there. I don't think it was worth renting a car and driving 3 hours each way from Sapporo just to see this pond. Definitely drop by if you're in the area but don't make this your destination.
They have a cafe and toilets on site. The parking is paid and they charged 500 yen per car. Just prior to the drive up to the pond there's a great rest stop with vending machines, toilets, a phone and some maps.
Also note in the afternoon at 4pm, there were many insects that would sting. Use insect repellent.
Zeal Sheth — Google review
Super crowded and with just a narrow muddy path that goes both ways, one has to walk with caution despite being mesmerised by the view. And that view makes all that worthwhile.
Would highly recommend to come at least once, preferably not on a rainy day, which I guess would be rewarded with clear waters and photos with nice reflection.
Blue ice cream was surprisingly refreshing and tasty. Didn't taste weird at all!

Went on 17 April in the morning. Part of the pond has melted while path to take photo was semi-muddy and the number of visitors was reasonable. The view of the blue pond was beautiful with the surrounding ice melting

Amazing!! It looks even more magical in person. It's a very quick attraction, you can be in and out within 10-20 minutes, but it's worth the stop.

Very pretty blue pond in Biei, Hokkaido. Parking is 500 yen, but otherwise there's no charge. It can get pretty crowded as the day goes on, so I'd recommend going in the morning if possible. Absolutely recommended if you're in the area, but unless you're looking to take lots of photos it's probably not worth coming out of your way.
If you just want to stroll around and enjoy the sights, 15 minutes is probably plenty. I spent an hour here comfortably taking lots of photos from different angles and with different camera lenses. The weather was beautiful and the pond looked lovely in front of the turning colors (early October). Shop nearby has some cute, if a little pricey, themed goods.
Rachel Boatwright — Google review
I found this place 'magical' , as the colour of the pond changed from greyish to stunning blue. The presence of the withered Japanese larch trees in the waters added to its mystical surroundings. Looking great for photography! As I read, the colour of the pond looks different at different times of the day. [ Wheelchair accessible ]

Quick pond to visit. Not much to see here, other than a quick walk along the pond, finding a hole to take a photo in between all the other visitors. I think the exit queue from the parking lot took longer than our walk along the pond.

Beautiful pond with an amazing blue water color hue. There are some trails to explore nature surrounding the pond.
There's a public restroom and big parking lot in the vicinity.

Thought we couldn’t see much of the blueness because it was cloudy with heavy rain (We thought the blue was actually reflection from the sky).
Hence we were pleasantly surprised to see the pond pretty blue! Very nice view. Wonder if tourists can swim inside JKJK
Parking available at 500 yen with many parking slots.
Liau Yuan Wei — Google review
The pond is very pretty but really off from everything. I wish there was more to do and more regular busses. I recommend going by car unless you are also fine with walking for about 45 minutes, then you can also reach the waterfall and Onsen

We come here in late March and pond was frozen. Amazing moment is another experience from pictures in internet ^^. At the end of walk way, small river still flows. Nice scene.

There are two different view and atmosphere when you visit in the daytime and at night. I prefer night time as the view on blue pond was so spectacular. We came at 6pm during end autumn where the night fall after 4.30pm. Have a totally different view and we love it. The ice-cream shop close around 6pm and luckily we got the last order. 😀

It was a cool pond to see, and the color of the water (brightness of the blue) is dependent on the weather more then anything. Not much else in the area, and a 500¥ parking cost. Souvenir shop was there with some unique gifts. I would revisit to see it in winter, but nothing more.
Vinny F — Google review
It was beautiful but a bit dry. Not surr if there was a part were there’s more water and if you can go closer.

A bit frozen over around the middle of April.
Parking is ¥500 in 2024.
Would recommend holding off visiting until it’s a bit warmer.
Dan H — Google review
Very picturesque pond. The blue colour is the result of minerals present in the water interacting with sunlight.
The pond is surprisingly close to the parking lot. Go up to the left (past the ice cream stand) to reach the best photo spot immediately. Going up the walkway to the right is not worth the effort as the path is narrow and muddy and the view isn't very nice.
Mathew Yee — Google review
We drive up there to combine it with the Ningle Terra’s ( 48 mins from the pond ) . Worth the 500 yen parking to take some nice, pictures. When i was there it was freezing -12 degrees. I can imagine the pond looks nicer during the spring/summer period.

The vast flower garden of Shikisai No Oka is a top tourist attraction in Biei. The hilltop gardens are a beautiful sight all year round, with colorful blossoms in summer and winter. There is also an alpaca farm on site, making it a great place to visit if you're interested in these friendly animals.

I went and visited in the middle of December with the tour. They will ask and reserve the snowmobile for us in advance.
Single riding 1 hour charged at ¥12,000. Double riding 1 hour charged at ¥18,000.
The price are also included helmet, boots and pants but no gloves and coat so wear and dress your proper clothes or bring the thin balaclava protect your face and neck from the cold during your ride.
Local guide ride very slow and safety. All rider are ride one by one. Wonderful experience ride through the natural surroundings
It’s cheaper price if compared with other countries as Iceland or Finland that I rode the snowmobile.
For family with child, they have the area for sledding board.

Tourist trap. 500 yen parking, 500 yen entrance, 500 yen to see the alpacas. Yes, it's really beautiful on a sunny day, but I found it so artificial. For the lazy there are tractors and gasoline buggies.
I walked around the whole place and I was done in 30 mins including photos. I thought it wasn't worth the money. There are beautiful places in Biei that are completely free to take photos.

Wonderful spring/summer experience for all, family centered, can hire golf arts, tractor buggy and walk through these stunning fields of flowers. I will also reccomend trying the mouthwatering soft serve milk or lavender icecream, famous in this region. Eating this while strolling through these flower fields for a unique sensual experience. The views beyond Shikisai are exceptional to make the most beautiful photographs, a great Instagram spot for those that indulge in social media. Enjoy.

Spectacular row of flowers, great for photo taking. Parking was 500 yen but the actual entry fee was waived because we came in June, right before the peak season.

The flowers weren’t in full bloom yet when we were there. There are options to rent a buggy (if you have a driver’s license recognises in Japan) or riding a trolley pulled by a tractor. The space is fairly large, with some uphill along the way. Pay extra to feed alpacas. Helicopter also available (but pricey). The tractor ride stopped on the uphill to allow pictures overlooking the flower hills, which would have been breathtaking if all the flowers were in full bloom.

Beautiful to see long stretches of flower fields. Flowers are seasonal so you will find sections which are totally in bloom and some sections just being planted. There is an Alpaca farm inside, do watch out for it, they do have a small ATV and also an option for a helicopter ride :) Had a great experience overall!

Came during an off peak season where entrance fee was free for all visitors
1. You could just stroll yourself around the area and it's really quite chill.
2.Will be tough for elderly to get around as it's all loose gravel and slightly steep. However for the most folks shouldn't be a problem
3. They still keep a decent amount of flowers for the visitors during off peak - not too bad

Worth dropping by, although on a good day, it could get really hot. Also it's open across all 4 seasons, so the effort that goes into maintaining this place is massive.

I visited here because of a day tour package. You can enjoy snowbiking during winter. They will provide a safety set, including a helmet for your safety.
If you aren't a fan of snowbiking, you can go for snow sliding, and equipment rental is 200 yen. It is good for family activities.
We enjoyed our time here; it is scenic, surrounded by mountains, and you can have a photo session here as well.
Besides, there are kiosks selling baked potatoes with butter, which are a must-try food here as Hokkaido is famous for its potatoes.
We tried the regular potato, which cost 200 yen, and it tasted good.

We went at the end of September but there were still a lot of fall flowers. We were worried that there wouldn't be anything to see, so it was very impressive how they meticulously plan for flowers to bloom for as long as they can.

Farm Tomita is a large lavender farm located in Furano and is visited by millions of tourists every year. The fields are full of beautiful flowers from mid-May to early October, and the greenhouse has some plants that bloom all year round.
Visited mid-May so the fields weren’t fully filled in, but from what we saw the farm is sure to be beautiful in peak season. Free admission. They have several fields of different flowers to enjoy, an ice cream shop, as well as a souvenir shop filled with a variety of lavender goods. Definitely worth stopping and strolling through the nice flowers!

Reminds me of lavender farms back in England, except far more colourful!
If you are lucky with the weather, it’s absolutely gorgeous to visit. The rows of colourful flowers, combined with the open sky and distant mountains make it a necessary visit if you’re in Hokkaido.
There are a lot of buses bringing tourists in the summer, so be aware it can get busy, but it didn’t feel cramped when I was outside the buildings.
The ice-cream was delicious (I recommend melon and lavender), just make sure you eat it quickly. It melts very fast in the heat. The farm shops are very beautiful and well decorated, and sell all sorts, including dried flowers, perfumes, decorations and food items.
The closest all-year train station is a 20-25 minute walk away, and only 5 minutes by train from Furano. The melon farm next door is also a necessary visit!

but, the flowers field is so huge that we take walk clean and peaceful path!

oh, the center of farm there are convenient complex shop including souvenirs shop and restaurants and so on!
when we dropped by restaurants for lunch, we were so happy because the shop sells cool drafts beer!! wow!
the tourists don't need to buy the tickets for park! especially tourists whois using own car!

Beautiful place to enjoy some lavender fields and fresh melon (the best I've ever had)! Lavender is in its peak in June but I went in August and there were still some growing, but also a bunch of other gorgeous flowers. Plus, the melon is the best in August. There were a lot of people there, but everyone got a chance to get their perfect instagram photos, so just take your time and don't rush. It's not a place to rush. Also, I highly recommend taking the scenic train that only runs in the summer! One of the train stops is near this farm.

Admission is free, and you can enjoy the lavender fields and various flowers.
I visited during Golden Week and wasn't expecting to see lavender, but there was lavender blooming inside the house.
You can see the cherry blossoms, and the Tokachidake mountain range and scenery are also great.
I think you can enjoy it without getting crowded even outside of the lavender blooming season.

Really touristy with buses after buses dropping off at this place. But this place is made for tourists so it has enough amenities to interest anyone. There's a big variety of shops (from dried flower, lavender to melon products) around the farm and beautiful flowers abound. There's also a lovely photography museum, factory production lines as well as various viewpoints (don't miss out on the viewing spot in the lavender factory).
The entire area is nicely maintained and a well curated space with the path amongst the trees a personal highlight for me.

We went there in the peak lavender season in July. The view and management was amazing at this place. I also loved shopping at the nearby shops for perfumes and cosmetics. The smell of lavender was enchanting.

Splendid view of the flowers, we tried the lavender ice cream and I can tell that is my second favorite in the world. The melon is super recommended, I’m not a big fan but this for sure tasted different… good different.

Was very crowded when I went in the afternoon. On the left of the car park were retail shops mainly focusing on melon and ice cream. That's not part of Farm Tomita.
Farm Tomita is right of the car park. Flowers fields were pretty. There were several F&B and souvenir shops across the farm. So don't join the massive crowd in the first ice cream shop at the entrance, there's plenty more inside without the crowd.

He spread the wonders of Hokkaido's lavender fields throughout the country. The flower gardens at Farm Tomita are simply amazing. It looks beautiful from any angle. In addition, you can see lavender in the greenhouse all year round, regardless of the season. There are some such sad performances. All the food and drinks are very sophisticated and delicious. The customer service is also excellent.

This place has many different plots of flowering plants in all hues and colors and was indeed a warming sight for our tired eyes. We enjoyed ourselves wandering around the different fields, having a great time taking many pics for remembrance. The tractor and motorcycle in this place are all lavender in color! There is a small cafe where we enjoyed the sweet melon (we couldn't enjoy it elsewhere as all the melon farms have already closed up for the remaining months of the year (we visited furano in 2nd week of oct) and also different versions of the lavender ice cream. Multiple shops are located all over the huge estate for you to purchase different types of lavender goods and souvenirs if you wish. Toilet facilities are readily available as well too.

A must visit place in Furano. Visited at the end of June, Lavender is just beginning to bloom. Even at this stage, it's beautiful. Some types of flowers have yet to bloom so if you come in mid July it would be spectacular.
There are many souvenirs related to lavender. There is soap, perfume, dry lavender flowers, essential oil...etc. Tax free is available for foreigners.
Must try the fragrant lavender and melon Ice cream. And also the melon pan and fresh cut melon.
So come early as it gets very crowded as the day progresses.

This place is like magic. So beautiful the Lavender garden. Full of colours. All kind of colours of Lavender. Not a very large garden but good enough to view the famous Hokkaido Lavender.
The surrounding also have lots of stores selling Lavender products and Lavender made food. They also have the famous Hokkaido Melon. Parking is very big and clean. Great place to visit. Will be back

We booked a Klook tour to go here and it was the best decision ever! Even tho it was drizzling that day but we still enjoy ourselves very much.
You do not have to pay to enter, it's free then along the fields there are cafes and shops that sell a wide range of lavender related products.
The scenery is stunning really worth it to make a trip there, we tried the best selling melon bun but it's too sweet for our liking.
Best to rent a car and drive there or go on a tour like us.

Ningle Terrace is a shopping area nestled in the woods that boasts picturesque timber cottages and workshops, showcasing and selling traditional handicrafts. While the view is enjoyable, the cost of goods may be considered expensive by some. Access to the location can be limited, with only a few taxis available as transportation options. Entry is free but operating hours are subject to change. The best time to visit would be at night when all of the lights have been lit up.
So dreamy, like those ginger bread houses, Santa’s workshop in books. It looks so nice during the light-up in the evening of winter. However, some shops were already closed at the time (Around 5-6pm).

You can access to this place from the hotel.
Walk pass a souvenir zone and get to lower ground from the elevator.
Not so crowded
Definitely a place to take nice photos when it's empty.
Too bad it's working time just until 830pm, so I didn't get to enter most of the shops.
By the time I left, there is no more buses.
The hotel staff helped me to call a taxi.
My suggestion is to visit here earlier,
Probably around 5pm
Chill in some cafe and wait til the closing time to get good photos.

We only had limited time here and I think the view would be better at night when all the lights have been lit up. There are a couple store that sell cute souvenir such a wooden figure. The place is small so a couple hours here should be enough.

A tourist attraction in Furano where local Japanese artists sell their arts and crafts as souvenirs. The shops are in the form of wood cottages and when sunset the lights will be light up to create a more picturesque view. There are also some cafes which sell hot chocolate, milk, cakes, ice creams. If you come in the winter, you will be served a stunning blanket of soft white snow which covers the roads and creates snow hats on the cabins and snow mushrooms on the trees.

Very surprising place in the middle of the forest, next to an hotel. Many cabins (stores) with various crafts and lovely hand-made items.
Worth the trip, especially at night with all the illuminations!

A quaint and beautiful place that feels out of this world. The place looks great in the day and even better in the evening when it transforms through the fairy lights that line the walkways and outline of the huts. Each hut contains a shop filled with hand crafted products which are beautiful and intricate. Worth a visit!

Nice place but nothing we can do except taking pictures, and it is quite hard to go there except by taxi/private car or shuttle. Shuttle is limited and cost ¥500/trip/pax. Do expect crowd too, as taking good picture is quite impossible.

The view was EXCELLENT oh gosh how can this place exist. This is a night place so do go at night for pictures, but note that the place closes at 7:45. Some shops closes before that, and they don’t operate on certain days.
The small cozy wooden huts sells artisanal pieces made by local artisans. They were stunning but prices were on the higher side as expected.

It is good, actually a shopping area but the cost is way too much than the actual.
So just went to enjoy the view, try to visit when it is going to be dark.
But the problem is access you don’t have many buses to get to the location, few Taxies are available.
The entry is free and the operating hours changes depending on the situation

As much as it’s beautiful, there’s nothing much to do here aside from taking nice photos. Do expect huge crowds to be there so you’ll be walking and stopping periodically to wait for people around you to get their photos taken. It's not that great. I have been to many attractions like this before across the world, so maybe I am spoiled a bit. They usually have a really pleasant atmosphere and are crowded. This place was dead, and it just didn't feel as enchanting as how the pictures make it out to be. It closes at 2045, yet half the stores were closed when we got there at 1800. Handmade items mean everything is super overpriced. The village itself is good for some pictures, but other then that, it's not something I would say is worth visiting at all.

Additionally, the resort offers hot springs and English-language activities geared towards children. While the resort can be pricey, visitors can enjoy convenient access to backcountry areas without special equipment. Overall, Furano Ski Resort is an excellent winter getaway for those who love skiing and cold weather.

Take a Lavendar Airport Limousine bus from Asahikawa Bus Terminal to New Prince Furano Resort (2 hours). At the resort they do provide shuttle service to skiing area or might take a 7 minutes walk if you want. They provided skiing equipment for rent (5 hours 8800 yen). Ride the cable car (2300 + 500 refundable deposit) to the top hill to enjoy the beautiful scenery (for those not a skier). There is a restaurant serve quite delicious ramen. Don't forget to drop by Ningle Terrace (4 min) for some beautiful photo as well. Wonderful place worth my visit.

The ski resort areas are lightly crowded on both sides. The terrain and courses are enough for an intermediate to enjoy all day. For advance skiers and snowboarders, look for gated terrains. There are many food options at reasonable prices in the main town area.

It's Spring, the snow is slushy, there's barely anyone here, you could wear a t-shirt and shorts if you wanted. I'd like to have a BBQ later and down a nicely chilled beer while lounging in a deckchair. Also, they play dodgy Japanese music. You love it.

Best powder in Hokkaido, just slightly small unless also taking Kitanomine into account, also has better lunch at 11th floor if you feel like to have one, can get really crowded during peak season, long waiting line at the gondola, try taking the lift at bottom to mid might be faster.
Kevin Wu — Google review
Went in the second Saturday in March. It was really quiet despite the conditions which were really brilliant.
We got a full day ticket and spent a full 5 hours on the resort without going to the same place twice. You can go a little off-piste pretty safely and there are signs about if you want to go all the way off how to do it safely.
There are some good restaurants at the bottom that are pretty cheap. Unfortunately the one at the top of the ropeway has had a fire and is shut down for now.
The only down side was the flat area going from the Furano area to Kitanomine area and the white people who decided to stand in front of the exit from the lifts to have a chat.
Paul Foulkes — Google review
Good ski resort, wide variety of runs available. Very suitable for beginners-intermediate, fewer runs for more advanced skiers and snowboarders. Many wide runs to practice freely. Nice off-piste and backcountry opportunities available.

This is a great ski resort as it is not too busy like Niseko. The signage for the ski runs are very well presented. For beginners like us, we have no issues with the direction of the skin runs. We have been to other ski resorts where we couldn’t even spot which is the green run (beginner) or blue run due to bad signage. The staff here was also very friendly and helpful.
However the only thing we complaint is that the slopes here are little bit uneven so it will be hard for beginners to practice.

It’s the 22th of December and the management doesn’t manage it to open more than two chairlifts. This is the result!
The excuse is not enough snow. Even do we have a snow base of more then a meter… it seems more like they wanna keep the cost low for the operation and squeeze the most money out of it. We will never know but what we know is that it is a fraud on those who want to have a happy day in the snow!!!

Abit different from The National Ainu Museum but as good, you can’t compare the two as they have different stuff on display. Arte Piazza Bibai
The landscape of the remains of a coal-mining town inspired the world-renowned artist. Sculptor, Kan Yasuda, and the outdoor sculpture park where you can enjoy the great outdoors.
Arte Piazza Bibai is an outdoor sculpture park about 60 kilometers northeast of Sapporo, located close to the center of Ishikari plain in Bibai city. “Arte Piazza” is Italian for “Art Square”. In what was once a coal-mining town, an obsolete elementary school building and gymnasium was renovated and left mostly as it was, the 30,000 square-meter area, including the surrounding forest, was redeveloped, and the sculptures from the Bibai-born, world-renowned sculptor Kan Yasuda were placed throughout the building and the surrounding grounds. The park was first opened 1992. Since then, the facilities and works of art continued to increase, becoming the vast 70,000 square-meter outdoor sculpture park it is today. The wooden school building and gymnasium, where numerous art events and hands-on classes are run throughout the year, is also used as a municipal kindergarten. It is a valuable space where you can enjoy the great outdoors and art just by taking a short trip from Sapporo.
Barry Ashworth — Google review
The Arte Piazza Bibai is actually a garden exhibit for Kan Yasuda's sculptures. The Japanese sculptor favours working with white marble and black bronze. His style stretches from geometric shapes to organic curves, all in simple and effortless style. His sculptures are well-placed among the rolling hills and natural greenery, giving more impact to his works.

The highlight of Yuni Garden is undoubtedly the kochia plants that blanket the landscape in hues of green, turning to brilliant shades of red and pink during the autumn season. Visitors are treated to a breathtaking sight as the kochia plants sway in the gentle Hokkaido breeze, creating a mesmerizing sea of color.

Came at the end of the season in September so the flowers were not at full bloom as in full season but it was a beautiful day and wasn't busy. Was still very pretty.
What was really good was the buffet restaurant on the second floor. For 1600 yen they serve vegetables from the garden in different styles and some local produce such as chicken etc.
The tomato jelly was interesting (good way to get kids to eat there veges)
Definitely recommend

Large gardens, lots of flowers and lawn areas. Small tourist train around the grounds 100 per person (all ages).
Came for about 3 hours with family. Day passes including use of Onsen (hot spring baths) nearby: adult 1500 yen
Kids up to 12 yrs free but paid about 300 yen for onsen.
Gardens have large twee giftshop, restaurant, nice outdoor patio terrace. Good views from main house down over gardens and beyond. There loads of cosplayers walking around having photos taken.. only in Japan.
All in all a good day out, especially with dip in the onsen afterwards. Onsen has restaurant (straight opposite serving area/kitchen there's a ticket machine where you buy tickets for food, and you present the tickets at the serving area, and are given a buzzing device to take with you.. which.. buzzes when your items are ready to go and collect).
Anyway, good day.

Royce Chocolate World at New Chitose Airport is a delightful chocolate factory offering a range of delectable treats and fun activities for visitors of all ages. The Bakery serves up unique creations like chocolate cream croissants and chocolate pies, while the free-access chocolate museum provides insight into the history of this beloved confection.
Royce and chocolate lovers should factor in some time to visit this when arriving or departing from New Chitose airport. There are lots of flavours that are only available here and no where else. The automated manufacturing process is also visible. There is an area that talks about the history of chocolate and origin of Royce. There is also a Royce Cafe for those who can’t have enough of Royce chocolate!

Did not know about this place and was so pleasantly surprised to stumble upon it when leaving Sapporo. LOVE royce and was going to buy heaps on my way home. bought here but realised that its a bit cheaper inside the duty free shop later on. but the plus is that the range is much much bigger here. if u are after more unique items, this would be a good place. for the more standard items, shd buy inside after check in. enjoyed looking at the beautiful displays and the chocolate making machines!

New Chitose airport itself is a tourist attraction! Royce chocolate, which originated from Hokkaido, has the first chocolate factory plus museum in an airport in Japan. Many interesting artefacts related to chocolate can be found at the museum. There are limited editions items available for purchase at the gift shop.

Royce’ is a famous chocolatier from Hokkaido. And they just so happen to have a huge shop in the Chitose airport. There are a fresh pastry selection made with their chocolate, chocolates with kid-friendly themes, and fancier "nama" chocolate, which is what they are best known for.
Given that Royce is famous for their chocolates, I had to pick some up as "omiyage" to give to some friends since I was in town... sadly, I bought nothing for myself other than a delicious pastry. But I definitely recommend you stop by this convenient location and pick up a few things for your friends and family (and yourself, of course).

New Chitose Airport is a most amazing airport. It is not only somewhere you go through, but also a destination in itself. This Royce Chocolate World is one of the many things that make this wonderful experience.
It is a tiny museum where you can see a brief history of chocolate, including a very nice collection of chocolate packaging and another of printed advertising. There is also a modern demo factory in production behind a huge window.
Royce is a great chocolate and this little exhibition area really makes our Hokkaido trip more memorable

A fun place for choc-aholic :) I visited just days before Valentine's day so love and cuteness overdrive.
They also have a bakery as well as chocolate packages that are not available at other smaller kiosks throughout the airport (eg the smaller box 380 yen-ish nama chocolate. I regretted not buying because elsewhere only sell the bigger 700+ yen box).
There's also a small chocolate museum and seethrough chocolate making area.

Chitose Outlet Mall RERA is a shopper's paradise, offering a wide range of products from clothing and sports gear to interior items. With over 400 brands, it caters to both international and local tastes. Located conveniently close to the airport, it provides a less crowded shopping experience compared to outlets in Tokyo and Osaka. Visitors can also enjoy Hokkaido specialties at the mall's eateries.
Took the free shuttle from the airport to do last minute shopping.
The food offerings are mainly ramen and a few stalls in a food court area. There were lots of discount offered. Wide range of winter products. If you need winter clothes, feb is the right time to visit.
Riris Purba — Google review
Want a shopping spree with a big discount? Visit this large outlet in chitose. Important tip, time your visit on New Year's day & you will get the biggest surprise in your shopping experience. Practically all stores here are offering their lucky bag(FUKUBUKURO) which is three or four times the amount inside of it. One advantage here is the less crowded athmosphere unlike the outlets in tokyo & osaka. The only downside is the harsh snowy winter, but transportation is so easily accessible from sapporo station.
sam fisher — Google review
It is a fair size outlet mall similar layouts as those in North America. But many stores are closed leaving only limited stores that are open. Not too many people during the day. Some stores are heated. There are a few coffee spots and food places as well. Hope more stores will be opened and more people coming here.
Tomson Chan — Google review
Really waste of time coming here. Visited on 1st June (Thu) 2023.
Had a bit of spare time before returning our rental car, so decided to drive here and check this out. The reviews were correct, this is really a ghost mall, with less than 1/3 of the place being open. For those shops that are open, the items offered are those rejected goods, odd colours and not very cheap either. Was excited to visit the ABC mart, but the shoes selection wasn't great, though the prices are cheaper (though not too much cheaper than in Sapporo). Pls go to the shops in Sapporo for better and newer designs.
The management really needs to review the state of this place to make it more attractive and successful.

There is a shuttle bus from CTS to get here every 30 min. It might be a good place to kill time, but for me kind of a disappointment. Everything is not that much of a bargain. I was there on a weekday but I could kind of tell why there were so few customers....

First thing you'll see after the airport since this is the closest stores. When we arrived, it seems like only few people go here to shop. There are a lot of stores around but we didn't see much people. That's kind of good for shopping since you don't have to go around a crowded place. Though I'm not quite sure if business wise, if its good to be there. There are also restaurants around to have a quick bite since Sapporo is still around 40 minutes to 1hour drive, depends on where you are going.

Moerenuma Park, a creation of sculptor Isamu Noguchi, is a sprawling artistic landscape in Sapporo. Once a waste disposal site, the park now showcases various artistic elements amidst lush greenery. Visitors can marvel at the giant Mount Moere, the Hidamari glass pyramid, and the impressive Sea Fountain that shoots ocean water 82 feet into the air.
One of the most beautiful parks in the world, designed by Isamu Noguchi. The access is not very convenient but totally worth to see!

There are stairs so it's easy to climb, but it's quite high so both my dog and I could barely climb it. The view is amazing ~ It was windy at the top.
There were a lot of tourists, probably because it was a three-day holiday. There are many people with dogs. Rental bicycles are available near the parking lot. There seemed to be something for everyone, from small children to adults, and people with children in particular were renting them. A large river flows through the park, and many spot-billed ducks were swimming around. There are also restaurants and shops inside the park.

This is a park designed by Isamu Noguchi, who has visited it many times since it first opened!
Admission and parking are free, and the park is vast and has lots of fun to play in. Even when it's crowded, it's a large park that doesn't make you feel crowded.
In the spring, the cherry blossoms are beautiful and there are unique play equipment scattered around, as well as a beach pool and canal that are safe for small children.
You can enjoy day and night fountain shows, and you can climb the lowest mountain in Sapporo in less than 10 minutes.
There are bicycle rentals and various sports facilities, and the stadium is currently being renovated so that it can host official games.
There are large grassy areas throughout, and you can spend the whole day waiting for your rugs and playthings.
The Glass Pyramid has an event space, an art exhibition by Isamu Noguchi, a restaurant, and snacks available for purchase, so you don't have to bring your own lunch.
During the busy season, there are food trucks in the square, making it a very cozy park.

It’s a huge open park. Would be nice if you wanna cycle around for half a day. We mainly visited the glass pyramid which is an art space. Unfortunately there was no current show when we were there. However it was still nice to see the architecture and enjoy the unique space.
Jessy Tsang — Google review
The park features various pyramidal objects, a glass pyramid like at the Louvre, a step pyramid that reminds of pre-columbian America, a small pyramid features at the eastern wooded playground area, a square platform juts out and up triangularly above the soccer fields, a large mound is the largest structure and reminds one of steppe Kurgans or the pagan burial mounds of Scandinavia. There is much to do with the fluidity of structures of interconnected circles and straight lines, as well as the intentional use of glass, wood and stone, and how these create a particular modern ambience and become both practical and aesthetic in what is after all a public park. But you can say this park is also a fabulous work of art. And it's free, and the views are great!
Kyle Wit — Google review
If you do not have small children, then it is better to dedicate this park after five o'clock in the evening. Keep in mind that there are a lot of foxes that come out at this time and there are more of them than people on weekdays. In the evening there are very beautiful landscapes. We love to take photo and video sessions there. I don't know why, but the sky in this park seems to be especially beautiful at sunset.

A vast green park that became the posthumous work of Isamu Noguchi. There are various art installations in the park, including the glass pyramid, and you will want to take lots of pictures. Even the toilet is art.
Round pyramids and square pyramids are challenging even if they are tall. The top of the mountain overlooking the wide site is the best! Because of the size of the park, you will get plenty of exercise. It's amazing that parking and admission are free! If you want to go around various places, we recommend renting a bicycle (paid 400 yen), but if you only want to visit Moere Beach, you can walk. Moere Beach is shallow, so it looks good for small children.
You can bring your own lunch. For the time being, there is a restaurant inside the glass pyramid, but be careful of the business hours. The take-out shop for light meals on the first floor is also sold out, so if you want to use it after 13:00, you should buy it elsewhere.

Attended the Queen concert there. The concert was great, but the wait to get inside and the exit afterwards was terrible, likely due to the fact the vast majority of attendees arrived by subway and the station closest to the Dome is a terminal station, meaning nearly everyone was going home the same way. What is normally a 6 minute walk from the subway station to the Dome took nearly 45 minutes in sub 0 Temps on very icy and narrow sidewalks.

We will still be giving d 5 stars as d routes were quite clear and easily followed. We decided to make sure that we would at least be in the compound and grab some measly shots😂.
It would look better in the spring but nonetheless, d snow made it mysterious and pretty at d same time..
Sorry we couldn't enter that early but, do check out our photos ya!
Cheers!!!

A great venue, both architecturally and the facilities inside. I went to two RWC games and the transport and ease of getting to the stadium were easy. For the seating, it was a bit tight. Also just wish you were closer to the pitch, but still a great atmosphere.

The Sapporo Dome is a great sporting venue. As far as baseball stadiums go, it’s my favorite in Japan. Lots of space; good concession options and there really isn’t a bad seat or view.
We have found that during Corona restrictions that the food sellers seem to run out of food early, so it seems to be best to buy your snacks early in the game, as most concessions seem to sell out by mid game.

Went for ARASHI 5x20 concert, the building has nice dome shape design, facilities is clean and well organized. It was a very crowded event and lots of ppl. Like the way how the organizer manage the crowd from entering and exit the building.
Best audio visual performance I ever experience so far. Eye opener. Kudos...

Great stadium! Family friendly with stroller storage locks, kids play area, etc. Food options were good. Beverages aplenty. I was seated in Section 76, Row, Seat 204 for about $35 (see picture).

Takino Suzuran Hillside Park is a vast park that offers year-round activities such as biking, snow tubing, and skiing. It's conveniently located in Sapporo, making it easily accessible for visitors. The park is ideal for those seeking a single-day adventure close to the city, especially for beginners or families with children looking to enjoy skiing. Adjacent to Asahikawa Zoo, the park features vibrant cherry gardens that transform into a beautiful display of cherry blossoms in spring.
Went here last month on their Halloween event and it was so nice for the kids. The autumn foilage were lovely, specially kochia plants. The restaurant here had good food too, although the place's heater could've been warmer hehehe. The park has lots of fun and creative activities for kids and the kids at heart, although because of the pandemic they are closed for the time being. There's a huge parking space before going into the inner park area, for cars 600cc and below(普通自動車) the parking fee(rather entrance fee to the parking area will cost ¥420) and another ¥450 when you go inside the park. The entrance fees to the park are discounted for people with disabilities, senior citizens(certain passes/IDs might be required) and if you are going in groups. Please do check their website for more timely information :)

Great on the weekends! Food, entertainment and nature. What more can you ask for?
One tip is to park in the EAST parking lot to avoid climbing the hill to the restaurants and cafes. The Central parking lot is nice, but a bit far removed from most of the action.

Takino Suzuran Hillside Park, a gem nestled in the outskirts of Sapporo, offers a harmonious blend of natural beauty and recreational spaces. Sprawling across vast hills, the park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a tranquil escape. The meticulously landscaped gardens, adorned with seasonal flowers and meandering pathways, create a serene atmosphere for leisurely walks or picnics.
The park's diverse attractions include the enchanting Forest Chapel, a picturesque lake, and the unique Earth Clock, adding an artistic touch to the surroundings. During winter, the park transforms into a snowy wonderland, providing opportunities for snowshoeing and sledding. Takino Suzuran Hillside Park stands as a testament to thoughtful landscape design, offering a rejuvenating retreat for visitors seeking nature's embrace just beyond the urban bustle.

Superb play area (massive) for kids of all ages in the Chusin zone of the park (there are several entrances to the park so mkae sure to drive into the right one). There is a car entrance fee (400-500 Yen) and then another park entrance fee for adults only (400-500 Yen per adult, kids are free) - but it is totally worth it. You could spend several hours there and there are a couple of rest houses where you can buy food.

I came in the last week of March and it still has good snow around. I definitely will recommend this place for the first timer skier and family.
It’s free admission during winter time. They have many good spots and activities. The price for the rent is also cheaper. They provide free tube sledding and you can borrow snow walking shoes for free.
It’s about 1 hour from Sapporo with easy transportation.

If you like the outdoors and have half a day or even a full day especially if you have kids then this 400+ ha. park is a worthwhile visit. Accessible by both cars and by public transport the park lies on the outskirts of Sapporo. For the latter take the subway on the Namboku line all the way down to its Southern most & last stop, Makomanai Station. Exit up to the buses upstairs. There are several buses but the easiest would be Bus #106 at Platform 2 at the time of writing this. A 30-40 minute ride should find you at one of the 2 park entrances. For those taking the bus do note the last bus leaving to go back to Makomanai station is 1630hrs at least in Autumn. Expansive spaces of flower beds to well maintained forest walks the park caters well to kids as well with its many forest themed game parks. There’s also a reasonably priced restaurant.

A nice & quite park. Still too early for autumn foliage. Besides the park entrance fee, the car park charge is ¥420.

Just few activities. Most of ski slops are closed. We paid for the car fee entrance, no charge for any activities.

We had so much fun sledding! And there's an indoor playroom for kids that had massive nets where they can climb, jump and enjoy! We also saw kids starting their skiing lessons, super cute! Their Country house had great food and warm ambience. Snowfall was gorgeous when we visited <3

The Sapporo Beer Museum, located in a former factory, offers free admission and features exhibits, tours, and paid tastings. Visitors of all ages can enjoy a tour of the museum to learn about the history of beer in Japan and the beer-making process. The highlight of the tour is a half-hour tasting session with an array of beers available. While sake may seem like a more traditional Japanese drink, experiencing the birth of Hokkaido's famous beer at this museum is also worthwhile.
The Sapporo Beer Garden is a must-visit gem in Hokkaido! The historic ambiance combined with the delicious food and, of course, the incredible beer make it an unforgettable experience. The all-you-can-eat Genghis Khan BBQ is a delight for the taste buds, perfectly complementing the freshly brewed Sapporo beer. The spacious beer hall exudes a lively yet cozy vibe, offering a fantastic setting to enjoy great food and drinks while soaking in the brewery’s rich history. A definite highlight of any trip to Sapporo!

A must stop for beer connoisseurs who enjoy Japan's Sapporo brand.
The museum is free for admission and the building is beautiful with antique brick and mortar construction.
At the end of the tour you can taste test, recommend you order the sampler for ¥800 which comes with free nuts.
It takes about 45 minutes to see everything and most of the displays are predominantly in Japanese.
Elias Chelala — Google review
We only had time to can catch the 88 bus in town for ¥210. Upstairs is the free tour with limited English supplemented by an English written pamphlet guide. There are short videos. It’s simple and straightforward, takes about a half hour all up, so not exactly detailed.
There is a bar where you can purchase tickets at the machine for beers afterwards plus a couple of bar snacks like squares of cheese!??!! and there is the overpriced gift shop of course. Nothing much to write home about. The red brick buildings are beautiful and the grounds are nice but it was raining so we didn’t hang around.
They could do a lot more with this place if there were more frequent guided tours and talks in different languages. Even a headset or audio app tour might be good.
4 stars only.
Gene Genie — Google review
A place like this could benefit greatly from a bar open always with no need for reservations or closed for large parties. Such an iconic place without proper beer on tap served in a pint glass. No plastic, please!
It seems like they are too focused on selling stuff at the gift shops and its crowded fancy restaurant with a wait list. How about beer? How about any size in any ambience and paired with local food.
As a tourist going to Hokkaido and wanting to try fresh beer from its number 1 brand, this proved to be pretty elusive. Loved the people, the place but I missed the smell and feel of a bustling brewery.

A must visit for beer lovers. A really great exhibition, perfectly organized museum. You can visit the museum for free. A free visit also illustrate how Sapporo beer was made in the early years.
The souvenir shops both at the museum and the one outside are selling good stuff at good price. Both stores are not selling the exact same goods so don't forget to check out both stores before leaving.

A nice visit for the famous Sapporo beer. You can come here by bus, the bus stop is right in front of the museum. There is a free tour giving information about the Sapporo beer. There is a star hall where you can purchase beer-tasting set for 800 yen, and 300 yen for individual glass of beer.
Pavinee — Google review
I love how they’ve converted the old brewery into a museum and leisure complex that commemorates almost 150 years of beer tradition in Sapporo. We tried the beer sampler after touring the museum and it somewhat tasted richer, and the experience more meaningful compared to drinking beer at an izakaya.
To get to this tourist spot, get on bus no.188 at the bus bay outside the north exit of JR Sapporo station and get off at Sapporo Beer Garden. The bus ride takes around 10 minutes only.
Ron D — Google review
Pay only ¥500 to get a guided tour (premium tour) and two glasses of beer at the end of the tour. There’s also audio guide to rent for another ¥500 or else the tour will all in be Japanese.
The museum is not big so it only take around 50 minutes with the premium tour, and less without.
We walked in but the staff told us that the premium tour is usually fully booked. If you want the premium tour, you better book before hand.

The whole area is very beautiful and well designed. Thank you for the informative tour of the museum. No need for any guides as there are English/Chinese/Korean translations in booklets of each attraction!
Museum is FOC, there’s a souvenir shop that also sells different Sapporo beer!

If you're a beer lover, I highly recommend you visit this place if you're in town. The main intention of visiting this place was to drink some of their beers and eat at the beer garden for their speciality, "Genghis Khan".
Great little museum, that offered educational material on the history of Sapporo beer and the process. Unfortunately we only had the free tour, so unsure what the "premium" tour offered, but I'm sure you'll have a great time going through the process of Sapporo Beer.
I highly recommend you make a booking for the beer garden restaurant as well, as they do get quite busy (even on a weekday when we went), but if you're happy to wait and explore the museum and its surrounding area, then you can also do that too.
Ricko Suryadinata — Google review
Very disappointed with their guided tour. It consisted of a short video in their auditorium about the history of Sapporo, followed by the guide bringing us to several exhibits and telling us what we could have read on our own.
The only highlight was the beer tasting, where we were given 2 half glasses of beer.
Honestly, skip the paid tour. Just enjoy the exhibits at your own leisure and pay for beer tasting.

Pretty nice to get to learn about the history of Sapporo beer
1. We reached abit late around 12, so the premium tour was fully booked.
2. However don't be deceived as the free tour is pretty sufficient as well!
3. After the tour, head over to the tasting grounds for a round of all 3 Sapporo beer flavours
After your your, walk around the grounds to snap away at a beautiful garden as well as nice brick walls

Came here by bus. Learned from Google there's a dedicated bus to this museum for ¥210 only. Arrived before it was opened at 11am.
Went for a self tour which is free. The guided one is chargeable. Easy to navigate the history of how Sapporo Beer grew to where it is today and how it part of Sapporo city growth story. Though the displays are in Japanese, there are cards which translates it to other languages, including English. Worth the time spent here.
At the end of it, we get to try 3 of Sapporo's top beers. ¥1000 for a set of 3 glasses of 240ml. The beer hall is packed. Looks like there are a lot of Sapporo Beer fans here😀

Located just one station next to the Sapporo JR terminal, I was impressed by this historical facility’s free yet high-quality exhibition to visitors even though I was not fortunate enough to get a place in the guided tour. The exhibition closely linked the development of the brand with the development of the current urban Sapporo, as well as the life of Japanese in old days. Particularly, they mentioned how the beer production techniques advanced throughout the decades for a better taste. The beer tasting hall was grand and cozy.

An interesting museum with full of history and stories about the beer making industry. Especially the brand Sapporo. The architecture of the buildings are all bricks which I found intrigued (as in not the Japanese traditional housing). The beer samples at the end of the tour were fantastic. I m not a beer drinker but have to say they were tasty, crisp and less "bitter" and dry than other beer brands.
Ngoc Nguyen — Google review
As a destination, it’s a must visit. Staff are attentive and very kind. However, would be more helpful if there are English translations in the museum part and I felt there could be more experiences available if you are just going to the museum.
The grounds around are well kept. You can chill or play around with kids also.
The beer tasting when we were there was overcrowded. Probably high season due to snow festival. I would recommend you book one of the on-site restaurants in advance or give them your number to call then kill some time in the museum then order your beers at the restaurant for your fix.
Gabriel Cervantes — Google review
Sapporo beer arose from, and helped build Sapporo into the city that it has become, and the Sapporo Beer Museum curates a wide range of displays showcasing the growth of their brand and the city with it. Whether you are a beer drinker, or a history buff, this place has something for everyone. I visited over the holidays in December of 2019, and was surprised to find the museum was not over crowded. I think the snow that year had deterred a lot of people. It's not a massive museum by any means, but it's one that is well put together. I remember spending about an hour in the museum, and think I could have spent more time if I had a better grasp of Japanese. If I am fortunate enough to visit there again, I will buy the tickets for the beer flight as I skipped it on my first trip there.

The free section of the museum is pretty boring. But love the beer taster and if you don’t like alcohol, do try the corn tea! It’s amazing!!
Need to buy the premium tour pass in advance as we didn’t manage to get any around 11am.

A fun afternoon.
Free museum with information in Japanese, but also English, Korean, Chinese and Russian. The museum aspect deals with the historic site, beer in Japan, and the Sapporo beer company.
It ends with an inside beer hall that was a bit busy but nice enough. Outside there are multiple restaurants, but seemingly nowhere to just have a beer.
We rode bikes and it was a fun and easy way of getting there.

Interesting place to visit for people who likes Sapporo Beer! It is one of the must-see attraction means that it is crowded with tourists.
Went on the self-guided free tour, there are exhibition panels which tells you the history of Sapporo beer. The exhibition panels all in Japanese, but there are some self-help materials for you to read, available in 3 languages (English, simplified Chinese and Korean).
After understanding the history, it is time to taste the beer. There are 3 kinds of beer available for purchase, and there is the tasting set, which gives you 200ml per beer.
Due to the number of tourists there, it is not easy to find a seat. But there are stand up options if you do not mind. They recommend that you do not sit there for more than 30 mins so that others can get to sit down.
There is a small souvenir shop near the exit. You can get T shirts or tote bags there.
Overall, the whole visit took about an hour to understand historical development of Sapporo beer and also doing the tasting

It was one of my highlights when I visited Sapporo, HokkaidoGoing here was super easy since there is a dedicated bus route to and from Sapporo station. The museum is free, it showcases the history of Sapporo beer company highly informative and the information is written in different language so no one will be left behind. 😅 Too bad the bar closes at 4:30 so I was not able drink Sapporo beer here.

Also its easy to go there thru bus, train , taxi or private cars.

Definitely a good place to visit in Sapporo. I recommend trying the beer tasting set (1.000 yen). After visiting the museum, a stop to eat lunch at the Beer garden is a must. They have different options of Genghis Khan, a traditional Hokkaido dish. There is an all you can drink option for 2.000 yen. Recommend having a reservation in advance.

Worth the visit when in Sapporo. It's an interesting insight into the history of the beer and insight into Japan modernising itself. There are English subtitles on the videos, English placards to read from and the layout is well thought out. It's not huge, so you can expect to be here for an hour before getting yourself to the tasting rooms or beer hall next door. The museum is also free, so get in there already!
Carlito — Google review
I went through the free part of the museum. It was a short exhibit which followed into the tasting area. The three beers to try were reasonably priced and a good offering to find the one you like best.
There is a sign that states no video at the counter but if you ask if photos are ok they say yes. I asked in my limited Japanese if photos are ok and I’m pretty sure the younger bartender was making fun of me. Other than that, the museum is a good experience topped of by the tasting hall.
Would recommend.

It's nice and you can pay for some nice drinks at the end. But unless you are paying for a premium tour, is not worth the trip.
The free tour is really short (like 15 min) and all the museum information is in Japanese, so it's not really informative for foreigners.

Did the normal self-guided walk through (not premium) and then finished it off at the bar with a tasting set for 1000 yen.
Museum showcases the history of Sapporo Beer and has around ten exhibits that you can read about. Bar at the end lets you order some drinks of your choice, including some that are exclusive.

Nijo Market is a must-visit in Sapporo, offering a wide variety of freshly caught seafood and produce. This 100-year-old market is within walking distance of major attractions and showcases Hokkaido's legendary seafood bounty. Visitors can enjoy kaisen-don (sashimi rice bowl) at dining stalls like Oiso, known for its delicious offerings.

Very localized market here. Fresh seafood and fruits (especially for people who loves crab). Also many small seafood and sushi restaurants, expect the wait though since everything is so small here. If just to walk around, it shouldn’t take more than 30mns. Great place to do your morning walk. Could get very cold in the winter since it’s outdoor.

I really love this place for the fish market. It's my first time visiting a seafood and fish market in Sapporo, Japan. It's a pretty small fish market as these things go in Japan. Not a lot to see, maybe about 10 stalls essentially, which are catering to tourist market. But the seafood is fresh.
*Go in the morning for breakfast or brunch, by afternoon, there is practically nothing to see and the eateries were almost sold out.
*Go for the grilled seafood inside the market complex at Fujita or one of the excellent kaisendon shops on the outer periphery of the market.
*Ogle the crazy number of crab varieties and seafood related products available.

Smaller than some of the other seafood markets, but open for longer! Shop keepers are friendly. Wide variety of seafood shops to sit and eat too. Parking can be tricky to find. Many shops attract queues even before typical meal times, so be prepared to wait.
E Chong — Google review
Long waiting time if you intend to dine while eating and standing at the seafood stalls. Crabs are decently fresh, but prices are also steep. Walk around the entire market and take note of the different prices and type of crabs they offer. Melon was also overpriced and not as sweet as I thought it would be.

For vibes, it is a little bit touristy while I was walking around, getting to know/see foreigners hanging around the area.
Food is really amazing. As this is a seafood market, it's only normal to visit for its seafood. With what I'm getting, the food here really doesn't disappoint. Every bite reminds me of the ocean and makes me yearn for more !

Nijo Market in central Sapporo is a market visited by both locals and tourists. There were lots of fresh seafood products such as King crabs, sea urchins, scallops, and many more.
There are also a few restaurants nearby for visitors who wish to enjoy fresh seafood from the market. Perhaps this market can be skipped for non seafood fan.

I went to the market twice at around 11 AM, mid July 2023. It wasn't very crowded during that time.
The shops offer similar items, and the prices are almost the same in every shop. We purchased several packets of dried scallops (and were able to ask for discounts), along with some seasonal fruits. The produce was fresh, and the sellers were ethical.
Credit cards are partially accepted here, depending on the shops. For tax-free purchases, cash is the preferred payment method.

Nice Japan seafood market, if you have some spare time it's one of those places you can visit. Some of the stalls have seating (cooking and preparation service) within to allow you to eat the seafood you purchase. There are others that are just mini restaurants(limited seatings). Small but interesting fish market, not the biggest or the best but it’s nice. You walk from store to store looking at all the seafood, mainly shellfish. Prices aren’t bad because they always try to bargain with you. One shop gave me a 10 dollar discount because I was from Hawaii 😂. Also a few good sushi spots and one ramen place, everything looks so good! Definitely worth the trip if you want to get some fresh seafood.

Super delicious, awesome, incredible, fresh, mouth watering seafood. I bought a container of Hokkaido Uni for JPY5000, large oysters for JPY250 each and Chutoro for JPY2400. When I got the food back to our hotel, it was all like a magic trick - there one second then all gone the next - it was sooo delicious. I would absolutely pay those prices again for that quality of seafood.

Sapporo is a smaller town, so the shops are not all opened while we visited.
There’s plenty of shops that opened selling Snow Crabs, Dried Scallops and fruit stall.
