This was pretty good. For the price you get your kayak, transport and lunch. We were lucky to have our own guys from the hotel so can't comment about language
Roger Allen — Google review
Very professional people, supportive and encouraging. English speaking staff as well so that helps. Well organised, no long waits to start or form the pick up point to get back to the cars. Highly recommended.
James Leverington — Google review
Good price for about 15 km of canoeing and a picnic with 🥪 and water, unfortunately the staff was not that good at English and that was a little hard for one that does not speak a lot of Spanish. And we missed the last stop because there was no sign for Jaire and that meant that we had to paddle against the current back to the last stop of the tour, there where 3 stops along the route where the bus would take you back to Jaire Aventura.
Elina — Google review
This place was very busy with school children when we visited so we had to wait a while to be served. Some wetsuits were of poor quality (with holes, worn patches and ladders).
Rebecca Pointing — Google review
Good service. Price quality relation perfect. Friendly people. Clean showers.

Cheap and friendly company of you want to enjoy the Sella river
Friendly, easy and so much fun! The company was so easy to get to and the pick up process was super easy. They provided a wetsuit and life jacket and it was €3 to get water shoes. They also provide a tub to carry any food/belongings with you in the kayak. Highly recommended
Emily Thomson — Google review
Facilities, access, general amenities: very good. Great even. They have showers, rent out anything you might need, the car park is literally 10 metres away from the entrance... Ignoring the fact that my safety vest smelt absolutely terrible... Overall good service. But I can sincerely only give them a two star review because the ramp they use to push users down from the meadow into the river is incredibly unsafe, and the staff member who "helped" us down today actually made sure we hit the stone wall on the way down, before we hit the water. One of us hit the wall so hard, they sustained a bloody injury to the leg, literally seconds after having started the activity. We were rudely pushed down the ramp, no warning, no making sure we were going down at an appropriate speed or safely... When we later told them what had happened and asked them to please make sure this didn't happen to anyone else, they simply offered a surprised reaction... Not fun, hitting your knee against a wall because a staff member pushed you roughly down a wooden ramp. Shocked would be the appropriate word to describe how we felt. :(

Excellent expérience of canoe with this organisation.
All went very well: we were able to be picked up very quickly after our journey then we had a shower which was amazing.
Great experience for everyone.
Jerome G — Google review
This was extremely busy. We initially went to the wrong company as there are many companies based in the same area. It was not easy to tell them apart. It was very difficult to find the entrance and we could not have done it without the directions from a nearby company. Parking was almost full when we arrived which was about midday. There was a lot of queuing involved for check-in, safety briefing and getting the kayak. The queue to check-in was the same whether you booked in advance or not. Many kayaks were in the river making it hard to have your own space, a bit like bumper cars - more than 100 kayaks in the river at the same time which was not quite what we had in mind. The water is shallow and sometimes you have to get out to push the kayak. I am not sure if this is because of the season as we were there in the summer. We got out at the first exit which was 6km down the river. There was a delay for the bus back to the carpark/site. I am sure if it is usually this busy.
Muldr4Scly — Google review
I just had an amazing day with my family! We went canoeing 16km down river Sella on a triple canoe which was 4 hours of pure fun! And then we went to explore the spectacular caves of Pando guided by our friendly and expert guide Pepe! Stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and kayaking on the same day for a convenient price - I can't recommend this enough!
Marco De Luca — Google review
We had a great kayaking experience with the RanaSella team. The staff is extremely professional and helpful. They make sure everyone in the group feels comfortable. The tour guides are knowledgeable and really good at what they do. We definitely recommend the team to all the adrenaline junkies.
Preethi Cardoza — Google review
O yes! What a trip. The start is a shoot from the high bank straight down into the river! Exciting moment! Good equipment and instruction. Good logistics, no long wait to be picked up from where we chose to paddle to. Nice river. Clear, clean water.
A.j. Swain — Google review
Beautiful area, but full of drunk people throwing rubbish everywhere. It's better in the off-season. Regulations around waste and numbers of people need immediate attention. This company seemed fine except for the guys who launched us - they were really unfriendly. Good parking set-up.

The park offers spectacular scenery with high mountain passes, lakes, and stunning peaks. Visitors can enjoy activities such as climbing, cycling, kayaking, and hiking in this picturesque setting.
An amazing experience at the first national park in Spain. Great hikes , plus you can do a 4 hours SUV tour of the view points
Fawzydeen Haruna — Google review
One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been in Europe. It was an amazing surprise as I didn’t know Spain had this kind of striking mountain scenery. Lots of amazing hikes through rugged almost wilderness landscapes
Henry Bowesman — Google review
the Picos Europa form a barrier behind the coast of Bilbao San Sebastian and other cities along the north coast of spain. They are magnificent and totally sublime. Travelling up from the plains of Spain (where it doesn't rain) is such a marvellous experience if not a little teeth clenching at times! You ascend through huge gorges cut out of the Picos and wind your way through the breathtaking scenery until you reach Fuente De and then continue to the coast. A virtually unknown delight
bryan earles — Google review
One of the most beautiful places in Europe to hike. I highly recommend Anillo de Picos and the many mountain refugios.

Stunning destination. If you plan on driving to it own car, make sure you read up on when they allow you to do so. There are restrictions. Get there early!
ryan knight — Google review
At the time of visit (September 2022) you can only gain access via the road before 08:00 in the morning. After 8 o'clock, the barrier at Cavadonga is lowered and access is only for arranged guided tours.
We got up early and made the effort and was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.
Well worth getting up for but the ride up is a little daunting in the dark.
Do it!

Amazing ski location in mountainous Cantabria. It's such a beautiful drive in, too. Cable car was fun. Ski season is in full swing now.
Andrew Porteous — Google review
Fantastic park with a variety of natural wonders and views. The refugios need to have better quality food to reflect the natural environment and habitat.

Picos de Europa is incredibly beautiful national park, full of various hiking trails from less demanding yo very demanding. Everyone can choose circuits according to their fitness.
Indoor accommodations at Playa De Toro Apartamentos are conveniently located just 50 meters from the beach and offer well-appointed, one-bedroom units complete with kitchens and furnished terraces. The rooms are spacious and clean, although some guests have noted that the lack of a bathroom screen can lead to flooding. However, the apartments provide just enough cooking supplies for basic meal preparation.

It has the essentials to be able to cook, wash, clothesline, iron etc. A small table and four chairs on the terrace that we use for breakfast enjoying the views. Four of us came, two adults and two girls. The two beds in the room are together to sleep two and two. It has parking which is important because it is somewhat difficult to park. We use it practically only to sleep. The worst thing is that the bathroom is very small and that the shower has a curtain

(Translated by Google) We stayed as a couple for 5 days, and the apartment was very good. Excellent cleanliness, facilities and location. We missed the gel and soap in the bathroom, but as always when we travel, we carry our complete toiletry bag, we didn't have any major problems. Our own little terrace, and the beach a 2-minute walk away... there is a restaurant right on the beach. 5 minutes by car from Llanes, and 3 minutes from an Alimarket supermarket. Walking you can get there pretty quickly too. Very welcoming people and the hotel where you check in and check out with very attentive people, and they provide you with the key and a small map with basic directions, and a 24-hour telephone. Something to be thankful for. Exquisite treatment and very attentive. To repeat from the experience lived. Close to many places around to visit. The apartments also have a covered garage.

La Franca Beach is a vast expanse of golden sand that boasts striking rock formations and a beachside river. Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the abundance of natural beauty, including trees, rocks, and pillars scattered across the shoreline. The beach offers something for everyone, whether you prefer to relax in the sand or enjoy a drink at one of the nearby terraces. However, it's worth noting that parking can be limited at times.
Stunning beach, extremely clean, beautiful walks through rocks and caves during low tide. One of the best beaches visited so far.

Stunning sand beach large and deep with all equipment around to park, eat, shower… beach is clean
The closer you park from the beach, the more expensive the parking lot from free to 4 euros.
Best beach I have seen in Asturias, Galicia and pais vasco… well it certainly the most developed around

We were very surprised to find such a gem. A beautiful spot with everything you can wish for (if you are me ☺️). There's a river that flows into the sea. There are trees, there are rocks and rock pillars but also a sand beach. If you don't want to sit in the sand you can have a drink at a terrace. There's only one thing that was not amazing: parking space. There aren't to many parking spots, so baer that in mind.

I'll never travel to San Sebastian - Donostia without this trip planner again
Compact 13th-century castle with a crenelated tower & a small museum, overlooking the town & harbor.
Castillo del Ray is a 13th Century castle overlooking San Vincente de la Barquera's town and harbour. The monument is spectacular for the audacity of its engineering on such difficult terrain. It is not ornately appointed but it is but it is spacious, with stairwells and parapets for defence that offer terrific views of the harbour it once stood guard over. Also, it provides scope for a child's mind to run rampant. Castillo del Ray ticks all the boxes for an intact, bijou medieval castle. Well worth the modest entrance fee.

This castle is nice, a good place to visit in San Vicente de la Barquera.

Another monument that doesn't stick to it's own opening hours. Closed at 6.40 pm when it says it is open till 8pm from April. If I wait till 11am tomorrow, how do I know it will be open then ?
The short walk beyond to the church and town walls Is well worth it.

Beautiful castle with amazing views around the bay of San Vicente de la barquera. Inside you can see a hugh canon. When you go upstairs you can walk around and enjoy the views and take nice pictures. At the end there is a church you can visit too. Inside the central hall there is a 3D maquete of the castle and town.
Jelle DC — Google review
Great walk from the town center to the castle. Awesome views and the cathedral is up there too. You can see the whole robes and the town from there. Peaceful and beautiful. A must see if you are in San Vicente de la Barquera. There sometimes a few expositions of local artist in the near museum. Usually free entrance.

Charming castle, well preserved and maintained. Enter only 2€. There is historical exhibition of castle and region upstairs and photo gallery downstairs and audiovisual room with short film. Everything looks good, but there are no English signs and boards, the film has no subtitles, so if you don't know Spanish you miss a lot. Such a pity. Seemed very interesting. I'd really like to come back here and learn more. That would be definitely 5 stars.

Av. Antonio Garelly, 1, 39540 San Vicente de la Barquera, Cantabria, Spain
El Capricho de Gaudí is an early masterpiece by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, built in 1883 as a summer chalet. This Persian-style minaret stands out for its personalized design, featuring sunflower tiles and unique details that reflect the owner's interests. Situated on a hill in Comillas, this English-style mansion offers guided and self-guided tours to explore Gaudí's decorative work for lawyer Antonio Lopez.
May 2023
I found this place very interesting and definitely worth a visit.
I had a guided tour with a private tour guide, and we learned a lot by being with her.
Whether you think that Gaudi was gaudy, that perhaps is true. He definitely was unique. He spared no expense on what he built, and he thought of every detail imaginable.

Fascinating house, it would be lovely to learn more about the first owner though. Below the house there are some japanese paintings that are really out of place in this magnificent house, I reckon is because the new owners are japanese. Also the access to the tower should be opened.
Suzana xyz — Google review
Fascinating place . I really appreciate what I see.
What i dislike are the guides who speak Spanish and yell horribly to the ears of other people who want to appreciate in silence. Plus, they are rude, get you out of their way, close windows for their presentation and just tell you to come back later. And funny enough everyone in the crowd finds this behaviour normal: because you are the only person against a crowd.
This makes the visit not pleasant at all.
For the staff and organisers: just a little hint. When you have a so precious place with so little small rooms and stairs, don’t use guides with a crowd of 20 or 30, make smaller crowd with guides who speaks normally AND in different languages and train them to be respectful of other visitors and respectful of the place.
Consequently I do NOT recommend the place when guides are around and many people visiting. No go for me.
Toilets are smelly and not well maintained. There is no parking for cars: the town is faulty here. Extra difficult to park; no help provided.
Jerome G — Google review
perhaps best scene on the outside from the garden area of the sobrellano palace located next door yet accessed from the next block over to the south behind the main entrence, which will actually lead you to the front of the gaudi whim home. unfortunately most visitors miss this because the gate around the home is so tightly looped that from within the grounds you cannot get a full wide shot of the entire home or appreciate the majesty of its whimsical design; also because while at the palace you are unlikely to notice the pathway that leads behind tall shaded trees that eventually reveals the beautiful gaudi home. alternatively there is also a long residential street behind the main entrance of the home that once you reach the end of it you can climb a few steps and get a clear view of the home as sort of an aerial view with the city behind it taken together this magnificent home may best be appreciated from the surrounding outside since getting in is a chore and overpriced at €7 for a short and impersonal visit.

One of the earliest Gaudi works. It is worth going in and exploring. I took mobile audio guide in English and it was very good. Really enjoyed. NB: Not easy to reach. You should go around from the city. NB do not go from the palace.

Spectacular ⭐️👌🫶
Better to buy tickets in advance via official web - 7€ guided excursion.
The guide was telling interesting facts and stories about the building and the life of Gaudi.
It worth visiting 🎊
Nadia Rozumna — Google review
This house of Gaudi is fascinating in design, architecture exquisite detail in every room and every facet of the buildings.
Christopher Leonard — Google review
2 things that could be improved: the guide yells! If you are not with the group, it’s really annoying. He can speak 10x lower and people will still be able to hear him well. The video we watch in the beginning is in a room with uncomfortable benches and mal placed, if someone sits in front of you, you won’t be able to see the screen, most of the people prefer to be standing to not disturb others. The video is 12min long and it’s auto played, try to watch from the beginning (I watched the middle to the end and kept watching to see the beginning that I had missed 😅)
Dogs are welcome in the garden.
There was no line on Sunday afternoon.
Bring earphones and your cellphone, there are QR codes and you can listen to the audio guide (several languages available).
Save at least one hour for the visit, there so many details and you’re gonna love it!
Marmita Na estrada — Google review
I recommend buying tickets minimum 1 day IN ADVANCE, if you're on a schedule.
There are guided (take 45 minutes) and self guided entrances (both cost 7eur) to the house decorated by Gauide, for the lawyer of Antonio Lopez.
Andrea, our English speaking guide was awesome!
Parking can be difficult as the attraction is on the city center, but almost all parkingspots are for free along the road.
Note: Although the Sobrellano palace and temple (built by Gaudi's teacher for AntonioL.) are next door, they are separated by a fence. You can not pass easily between them, only by doing a whole 10-minute walking loop.

Stunning inside and out down to the finest detail. Signature work of Gaudi. From floor to decorative ceilings and building façade.
Staff at ticket desk were helpful. Average visit time is 45mins. But if you really want to appreciate Gaudi's work and the gardens, allow 75mins, imho.

Stunning example of Gaudi's work. Excellent audio guide (best if you take earphones) and relatively cheap (€5 for senior citizen). Thoroughly recommended.
Andrew Luscombe — Google review
Tip number one: go before 10AM.
I went twice and both times it was lovely and semi quiet when went in and became really busy as we left around 10:30 - 11:00.
I really enjoyed seeing the architecture and personally really enjoyed Gaudi's amazing eye for detail and nature. I love how timeless his work is. The staff speaks multiple languages and in every room is information why the room is built and designed the way it is.
For 7 euros definitely worth a visit.

We bought tickets in advance which you should definitely do! You can skip the long queue. We had a guided tour with Andrea, recommended. First of all, she was absolutely amazing and we got an excellent tour. Insightful and interesting. Secondly, you get some insider info with a guide and it doesn’t get boring.
I want to come again
The Museum of Torture is a small but interesting museum displaying various methods and tools of torture that have been used throughout history. It is well worth a visit if you are interested in learning about the gruesome world of torture, and it is also slightly scary to think about what could have been done with these devices.
Karol was amazing. Guided tour was perfect. All questions answered perfectly. Thank you
Anthony Gray — Google review
Fascinating and also scary to think these devices were used on people.
Well worth a visit and value for money but make sure you have a strong stomach.

Great place to visit, very interesting but horrific. Very reasonable price to enter. Certainly to graphic for young children, would recommend older teens upward age group. But certainly worth a visit.
Henrietta García — Google review
History is always important. The museum is cheap, but not for the faint of heart. Reading all those torture methods certainly needs a lighter program after to brighten up a little. The architecture and lighting also helps to set the ambience of heaviness, and it does feel like a brief time travel inside, which is fascinating and slightly horrifying at the same time.
Iasmin Avhustovych — Google review
This museum offers a permanent exhibition dedicated to the various instruments of torture, punishment, humiliation and capital punishment, used during the period in which the Inquisition operated. The objects are original and were actually used for such purposes.
andrey shamray — Google review
I am being brutally honest here. This museum is not for the feint of heart (especially if you choose to read all the plaques). If you enjoy this museum I’m sorry to say it’s kinda sickening. However, it was cool to see the different methods of torture and who they were used on. I wish there was some more history about the time period and WHY someone would be tortured and WHO came up with the torture methods.
Sheriff Nottingham — Google review
Very good. Here you can know how the mankind can be insane and cruel.

The Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana in Santillana del Mar has a rich history dating back to the 11th century. The town itself is a National Monument, boasting medieval architecture and landmarks like Torre del Merino and Torre de Don Borja. Exploring the cobbled streets lined with medieval mansions is a treat for visitors, while nearby palaces and villas offer glimpses into the region's affluent past.
What is now known as the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana has its origins in the expansion of the old convent of the same name in the mid-12th century. It was built by a group of monks to contribute to the repopulation of the area and the creation of a small hermitage where you can exhibit the relics of the martyr Juliana they brought with them. At that time, the village adopted the name of the monastery: "Sancta luliana". The Collegiate Church of Santillana de Mar is the most important Romanesque religious monument in Cantabria, being declared National Monument of Spain in the year 1889.

Beautiful church situated at the end of one of the cobblestone streets in this equally beautiful town. It's three euros to enter which means that it is peaceful and quiet inside. There is an attractive altar a sarcophagus in the nave as well as a cloister beside it.

Beautiful romanic church. I'm not sure it's 100% worth it to pay admission to see the inside, but it can be admired for free from the outside.

It is a sad day when you attempt to go to Church and you are not authorized to do so.
I’m a Pilgrim to Santiago on the Camino del Norte. Attempted to visit the Colegiata to pray in two occasions without success. The “business hours” are not clearly posted, asked the guard for information and came back during the timeframe the Colegiata is supposed to be opened. Now the excuse for none admission was that a wedding was going to take place (btw a few hours later).
So far, I was able to attend a special mass for the Athletic de Bilbao when we were coming into the city and a wake for two individuals that had died that week in Portugalete and no questions were asked. The more participants to the event, the merrier.
If the Colegiata is going to be used primarily as a tourist trap then go ahead; however, do away with the double role of an active Church where Christians are not going to be allowed in because we are not local or affects their ticket office hours.
We are not tourists, we are Pilgrims and a little consideration is appreciated.

The Santander Cathedral is a significant historical building, constructed between the 12th and 14th centuries, located in Santander. It consists of two churches, one of which is older than the other, and is decorated with Gothic design elements and ancient statuary. The cathedral was declared a cultural heritage site in 1931.
Nice gothic. cathedral. The church just below the cathedral is also worth a visit, with its me stone ceilings and organ pipes and confession box

Surprisingly pleasant place to visit, and at €2 this is well worth a visit to get out of the heat (or in our case, the rain). The light and bright interior was a surprise given the fairly plain outside. Having been rebuilt in the 50s (an era not known for great architecture) this is appealingly understated. The cloisters are a nice place to sit and recover.

Santander has a wonderful Cathedral. It was the start of our pilgrimage to Santiago. The priest refused our donated money for our passport stamp and blessed us for our journey. The surrounding area is worth a wander, with a water feature on the lower town side of the Cathedral. The interior has beautiful decorated ornate glass and more.

Maybe not as spectacular as some other Cathedrals in Spain but has its own subtle charms. Mainly gothic in structure it has had a few renovations over the years and borders the old cloister of the Abbey. It is free to enter and boasts some excellent chapels and alcoves as well as sculptures of both Santiago and Santo Domingo lá Calzada, which will be of interest to some passing pilgrims.

Primera Playa del Sardinero is a beautiful and popular public beach in Santander with plenty of amenities, including snack bars and loungers for rental. The beach offers strong breezes that create surf breaks at all stages of the tide, making it a great place to enjoy the sun during the summer months. In autumn and winter, the waves are smaller but still fun to surf.
A beautiful location, we parked our motorhome here for two nights, lovely and peaceful with fantastic views and sunsets, walked along the boardwalk into town and had a coffee and some lunch, people were very friendly.

The Magdalena Peninsula is a scenic spot that boasts a historical palace, beautiful gardens, a small zoo, beaches and a lighthouse. This sprawling parkland at the eastern tip of the bay is popular with picnickers and provides breathtaking views of nearby beaches across the crashing sea. Kids will enjoy visiting resident seals and penguins, replica Spanish galleons, and can ride on a little train that goes around the headland for an affordable price.
Very nice, green and peaceful place! Perfect for a walk! Beautiful places to visit and eat! Surrounded by water with amazing views, and that sound of waves crashing on the rocks, ahh... miss this place!
Elisei P. — Google review
Inside the palace is exquisite and at 3 euros for a guided tour well worth it but the grounds and seascapes are stunning. You can see and hear the power of the waves crashing into the cliffs. A short bus journey (1.30 euros each way) will take you there and entry to the grounds is free.
Lynne F — Google review
What a beautiful place to visit even as a tourist. We were travelling with an aged mom and were delighted to hear that she didn't have to walk up the hill to the palace as there's a train (bus) one can hop on that takes a slow trip up the hill. Cost was 5€.
The grounds are immaculate and there's benches placed throughout the peninsula where you can sit and enjoy the view. It's a lovely area to stroll around.
Lee-Anne Curtis-Cox — Google review
The grounds surrounding the Palace are absolutely stunning, with beautiful cliff edges where you can feel the full force of the atlantic wind. The park is really well maintained and is a lovely place to just sit and chill. The actual peninsula is 5 stars for definite, but the park area lacks toilets and amenities. The mini zoo (with sea lions and penguins) seems cruel and unnecessary. The animals don't have much space and some don't seem very healthy, which put a gloomy cloud over what an otherwise lovely trip to the park.

The Magdalena Peninsula is a 28 hectare peninsula located near the entrance to the Bay of Santander. The peninsula is a popular recreational destination for both tourists and locals. The historic Palacio de la Magdalena is located on the peninsula, which along with its surrounding gardens, is designated as a cultural heritage site. Also located on the peninsula is a small zoo, three galleons of the Cantabrian mariner Vital Alsar Ramírez and a lighthouse.

A nice place to walk, play (playground for kids), sunbathe & swim, just enjoy a morning or afternoon.
The Palace of Magdalena, located on the La Magdalena Peninsula in Santander and built between 1908 and 1912, is a beautiful example of Spanish architectural beauty and decoration from the early 20th century. The palace has sweeping water views and offers guided tours of its period decor.
This place is amazing, first of all the entrance is free, you pay only if you want to go inside the castle. Is so nice to come here in the summer and stay on a blanket. You have nice things to see here. Love Santander
Marius Eana — Google review
The place is absolutely beautiful. The views on the sea are breathtaking. The palace is really well taken care of, and the park around too. It's clean and spacious. The only thing that really shocked me was the little zoo with the sea lions and penguins. The enclosures were rather small and they are imprisoned there for pure entertainment. Such place don't belong to 2022. These animals should be freed.

With no Spanish there is no sense to visit the palace. Even with knowledge of this language, it wouldn't be worthy for me as only few rooms were showed. It is more beautiful outside. And the whole penisula

I would advise you to save the money and have a walk around it, and if beautiful gardens and scenery
Richard Farrell — Google review
Lovely little peninsula with a nice castle looking building on the top with magnificent views. There is a little "train" service for the ones who can't/do not want to walk but honestly, it is worth the effort. Not too hilly and if you go anti-clockwise you will reward yourself with a chance to see cute little penguins and see lions!
Definitely recommend when you are in Santander! For adults and children alike!
Robert Nuszpl — Google review
Beautiful architecture, this once a Summer Palace of the Spanish Royal Family is the Crown Jewel of Santander with spectacular views to the ocean and the entrance of the Santander Bay.
Exterior scenes for the blockbuster Netflix Grand Hotel TV series were filmed here.
You have to park outside of the grounds and walk up the hill or for those who want to avoid the brisk climb there is a train/trolley that takes you round-trip for €5.00.
The views alone are worth the climb and you don't have to pay admission just to enjoy the views. There is an admission charge of €5.00 for a guided tour.
Highly recommend if you enjoy architecture and ocean/water views, or a "Grand Hotel" fan.

I took the train up to the palace which really added to the experience. There are various other things to see in the area of the park. It’s very well maintained with lots of green areas and flowers.

We joined the tour of the palace for which we were promised an audio guide in English (the tour itself only runs in Spanish ..) - unfortunately this didn’t work at all and would have been much better to have a separate English tour. The audio clips were in the wrong order, all lasted about 30 seconds vs the actual guide explaining things for 5+ minutes at each stop, and we did not have the option to tour ourselves round. Not worth the money! It’s a lovely house but walking round the park is also a very nice morning out;)

Golden sandy beach stretching 3.7 miles with low tide rock pools, clear waters & nearby restaurants.
Long, clean, sandy beach. The water is shallow and when the tide is down kids can reach the rocks and collect little black crabs. Locals take their chairs and sun umbrellas but these can also be hired. There is a small library for those who forgot their books at home or would like to check the papers. Plenty of bars and restaurants around to grab a quick bite; many offer roast chicken for take away, however this has to be ordered 2 hours in advance.

Playa de Berria is a 2km-long, Blue Flag beach with white sand facing the Bay of Biscay. It's popular for swimming, sunbathing, and surfing. The beach offers amenities like bathrooms, showers, food, and hotels nearby. Despite being cooler and windier than the South of Spain, it boasts unbounded beauty and diverse landscapes. Visitors can enjoy fantastic views and explore cliffs and caves during low tide.
This is a fantastic beach and one of the best i have ever seen. It is my favorite stop in Spain. The cliffs and caves during low tide are Magic. Free parking. Beautiful sand and colour of water. But the caves on the right side are unreal. Go during low tide.

Even more than the beach itself, which is awesome, I liked a lot all the way to come here, passing the bridges over the marshland. The beach is very wild and it was my first time surfing here. High quality waves altough its quite overcrowed...even in low season. We were like 60 people for 2 peaks.

We stayed here in an apartement right at the beach for a bit more than a week in April. It's a very nice, very clean beach. Wide and long. Fantastic views left and right.
It's the Spain's North, so it's cooler and windier than in the more popular South. But for us the North is more interesting, it has lots of charm and so many different landscapes. Great food as well and lots of beautiful villages.
Some days it was pretty windy and the sand blew in our faces, on other days perfectly calm and even warm for April. A great beach to walk on (too cold for us to swim in springtime). Morning and/or afternoons. Even though dogs are officially banned, in the off-season almost everybody had their dog with. Good for us, so our Bulldog was able to have some fun on the beach as well. Even though lots of dogs, the beach was spotless clean. Everybody picks up after their pets and pretty much nobody leaves any trash behind. Please do so as well when visiting.
There are plenty of (free) parking lots along the beach. And in Spring, especially in times of Covid-19, there were always lots of empty spaces to park. Even on warm sunny days the numbers of visitors were very low. A lovely, quiet beach. That will change in summertime, judging by other photos.
It also seems to be a great spot for surfing and windsurfing. A surf school is even located on the eastern end of the beach (as well as a prison: they must have great views from their cells).
A really fantastic beach. Loved it. It was a joy to walk here daily and/or just enjoy the views of it. Also a very safe spot, never felt strange even in the middle of the night. So, if you visit Santona, head for this lovely beach...or try to stay a few nights even.

Pozalagua Cuevas
Nature & Parks
Caverns & Caves
Cavern known for its high concentration of eccentric stalactites growing in irregular directions.
This is the most extraordinary and spectacular stalactite cave I have ever seen. It has not only the normal vertical dripping stalactites that I have seen before, but also a lot of long and curved stalactites that look like vines.
Our guide went into great detail about the journey to this cave, where photography is basically not allowed, especially with flash, as the light and humidity affect the environment in which the stalactites are formed.
However, there are some special spots where photographs are allowed and the guide will inform you when you can take it.
This was a wonderful experience to enjoy the beautiful of the nature.

According to the website the caves are open from 11:00 to 20:00. The starting time of the guided tours are not mentioned but you would expect at least every hour.
To reach the site you need to drive along a narrow road climbing steep for about 5 km. We arrived at 14:30, hoping a tour would start at 15:00. However, we were informed that the next one would start at 16:00. Although there is a small restaurant nearby we had no idea how to kill 1.5 hours on this remote location, and this useless break would also cause as big delay in our traveling schedule. We had to leave without visiting, a waste of half an hour driving up and down the mountain burning several liters of gasoline for nothing. Why don't these people at least display the hours of the tours on their website?

Beautiful caves and absolutely worth the entry of 7€. Very impressive to experience the dimension of the cave and to see all thos wonderful Stalachtites and Malachtites, really a magic thing of this beautiful world we live in!
Unfortunately the english translation does not meet by far the explanation which are offered by the guide. While the translations tells little things, the guide keeps on explaining. In this point one may rework the English text and extend it a bit. Making photos is not allowed, which is a pity and understandable. Why forbidden?
Nevertheless worth a visit and once one is here, have a little walk around in the park and enjoy the beautiful scenery views, lovely and pure nature at it's best!

The Church of Santa María de la Asunción, a symbol of Castro, is a stunning Gothic-style basilica built in the 13th century under the protection of King Alfonso VIII. Meh, it's a lighthouse, the church was closed, not much to see really.

Lovely seaside town. Shame nothing is open when we visited ... churches, castle etc all closed... Google said stuff was open, but it wasn't. Will have to try and come back... but I will be checking directly with venues to see that they are open before travelling.

One of the most beautiful places in the north of Spain. I love it!!!
The Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao is a renowned art venue showcasing masterpieces by notable painters like Velázquez, Goya, and Picasso. Established in 1908, it houses an impressive collection of Spanish and European artwork spanning from the 12th century to the present day. The museum's pre-20th-century collection primarily features works by Spanish and Flemish artists such as El Greco, Zurbaran, Murillo, Goya, and Van Dyck.
Small museum but each room intelligently pairs a current artist with a similar master. Audio explained the comparisons. Be an art aficionado or go with an intentional open mind about art.

Ok museum. As of March 2022 it is free due to renovations. Best are the Basque paintings depicting life in a forgotten age

Loved the museum! It had rooms with 2 artists each in one building, where one artist was more classic and the other more modern. The main collections were also very interesting. I would expect more variety in the gift shop.

A fine gallery with an elcectic mix of old and new styles, sometimes in the same room. Free to enter and some wonderful pieces sure to suit all tastes.

The Museum of Fine Arts is a must visit if you like classic art. The building is a classic art deco building. The numerous galleries house some of the most important works of the great Spanish artists including Goya. Take your time to enjoy the art at display. Should take about 2-3 hours. Enjoy.
Do remember to take you headphones.

Interesting collection of Basque artists and some pieces of international artists (Gaugin, Van Dyck). Free of charge. The descriptions are in Spanish and Basque only, you can read them in English on the museum’s website (available under a handy QR code in the exhibition).

Nice museum.
Unfortunately, it is in the middle of a large renovation so only part of the exhibition is available. However, because of this there was no entrance fee, which was nice.

Bilbao's "other art museum" is definitely worth a visit. Great architecture. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of old masters (including Zurbaran, van Dyck, Goya, and others) and modern art (including Victor Vasarely).

Absolutely delightful! The staff was incredibly friendly. I loved the collection, blending classical and modern art, including photography and at the time of my visit there was also a video installation. The ticket was free. The museum was refreshingly uncrowded, allowing for a peaceful exploration of the exhibits. Additionally, the on-site shop was a hidden gem, offering an beautifully curated books and souvenirs at surprisingly affordable prices. A must-visit!

Great art space with very interesting selection of Spanish and Basque art. Worth visiting not only in rainy days.
The maginificent Gernika by Ibarrola is a great tribute to the Gernika painted by Picasso in 1937.

When you are in Bilbao to visit that other museum, and are disappointed by the G , this will pick you up.
A masterful collection of spanish art. We were blown away, by the collection and some of the really rare and old paintings on display.
A must see .

Worth popping in. Free and currently under refurbishment so about 8 rooms, 4 of which are filled with an inflated black and white plastic installation. Paintings from different eras and an interesting collection of Bilbao photographs.

Wow. Amazing. We came when a lot of the museum was being reformed, but the pieces we saw were incredible. Free entry, absolutely worth a visit. Thanks to the Basque government.

Amazing structure.....both outside and inside. Prebooked tickets in advance so no queue, which I recommend. Worth the €5 entry (senior) you could easily spend a good half day there. Definitely recommend.. unique.

Currently, this place is undergoing renovation/expansion. The admission is free. The current collection is not very extensive or well-known, but it is still worth a see if you are in the area. Other than couple of lesser known Picasso pieces, it is mostly lesser known and obscure Spanish modern artists and classical artists. The display itself is unique in that the classical artworks are displayed side by side with the modern artworks, creating a bit of visual tension as one peruses the museum.

Collections like these make me realise that I am very lucky to live “next door” to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum and the Frans Hals museum…
Luckily it is free.

I really enjoyed this modern art museum. I thought the installations were provocative and evocative, disturbing, and beautiful. A real cultural gem in Bilbao.

The museum was being refurbished when we visited so there wasn't too much to see. However entry is free during the works. We visited in August and there were very few visitors in with us. The spaces are nice and the work is varied though not spectacular. I'm not sure it's worth a visit while so few rooms are open even though it's free.

Museo Plaza, 2, Abando, 48009 Bilbo, Bizkaia, Spain
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, an impressive structure crafted by renowned architect Frank Gehry, is a remarkable contemporary art museum. It resides in a former industrial area of Bilbao and showcases significant 20th-century artworks from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation collection. This gleaming museum, composed of titanium and glass, stands as a masterpiece according to architecture experts.
Bilbao was one of the stops for our cruise (August 2022). I didn't go inside because I'm not a big fan of modern art, but the design of the building is the main reason I visited (there's a building near my job that was designed by the same architect that has a similar roof pattern). There are some sculptures outside to see as well.
Tiffany Vaughn — Google review
The best thing about this museum is the design of the museum itself. Very impressive building.
There were a few really nice pieces and the majority of the pieces were too modern for my taste.
But when in Bilbao... Just pay a visit. You can go through the museum in 1,5 hours if time is an issue

Universal accessibility could have been better in terms of signs to the restaurant and back, but if you ask for help, you’ll get it. Definitely a place to visit, you don’t have to be a self proclaimed art lover to appreciate the Guggenheim. They’ve got modern, contemporary stuff, but also great engineering and figurative art.
Even walking around outside is wonderful, and I’d say it’s enough to tick the bucket list if you’re a jet setter, but do pop in if you’ve got the time. No regrets.
The gift store has a few cool gadgets, too!
We ate at the bistro. Great service, weird seating, a bit pricey, but what do you expect… Very tasty food, and all the more energy to continue enjoying the museum and whatever comes next! Recommended as well.

Such a beautiful architecture and modern art! It was the first attraction I’ve booked before going to Bilbao. I was impressed by the design and grandeur of the art around the museum and of the building itself. There is a bit of wait for the light room but it’s definitely a must! Couldn’t recommend this more. 5/5

The building was already amazing on the outside, but love to walk through it too. The exhibitions were quite diverse, so I like some of it. However, other things did not fully suit my taste. Currently the second floor is not open, so a 1 hour visit was all we needed. Luckily the tickets were relatively cheap. Definitely worth a visit!

The place that deserves to be visited at any time of the year. The architecture is amazing and unique. The exhibitions are of different authors and certain periods. Through the QR code, you can enter the application and benefit from an audio guide in all halls and galleries.

A fascinating museum of contemporary art. Seeing him live is a special experience. The facade of the golden reflection is surprisingly live. Artworks of huge sizes approach the scale of a huge space and work fascinatingly. You can also view the building from the bridge above, where it works particularly fascinatingly and where the sculptural architecture comes to life in its entirety.
Contemporary art becomes much more interesting in such an object
Marjan Poboljšaj — Google review
Wonderful collection of art. Just as great as seeing the art inside is taking in the architecture of the building itself and the grounds surrounding. There is a bridge right next to it that has been painted by artists it's a great place to get some photos of the city and river.

Came here on a Monday Morning. It was relatively empty. No wait, got tickets and in we went. The top floor was closed for construction, so had to knock them down a star. Shouldn’t charge full price if 1/3rd of the museum isn’t open.
Some cool exhibits. Ours was all cars themed, so worked for us.
I would not recommend traveling a long distance for this museum. But it was fun regardless of the long trek.
Robin Mehera — Google review
An amazing museum, the building itself is a piece of art. The exhibits are displayed to great effect with plenty of room for viewing each picture. The Time structures were my personal favourites, it's rare to find something so massive inside, weird feelings of distorted volume, space and time when walking through them.
Dorian Wall — Google review
It has the name but does not live up to its fame. The architecture from the outside is beautiful. On the inside it is quite plain and cold. The collection is disappointing for a museum like this and you have to get in a virtual waiting line to visit the infinity mirrored room which takes forever. I suggest go scan the QR first (on the 3rd, visit the 2nd and 3rf floor and probably then it will be your turn for 1 minute in the room.
The staff is without exception unfriendly, uncaring or uninterested at best. The cloak room is a mess, they better install lockers.
Of you buy your ticket online you will save 2 euros. You can most usually do this for a time slot only 15 minutes after buying.

Amazing experience. Visit and walking around the gigantic museum, experiencing all the shades and reflections depending on the weather of Bilbao is an experience. As well as visiting the different exhibitions continuously researched by the Museum. The ground floor with the steel curves from Serra is a must see, no space could better fit the dynamics of the art.
Francesca Margherita Padula — Google review
Frankly speaking disappointing. Great building with terrible finishing. Walls and floors are badly done.
I must admit that modern art is something I do not understand.
Whole level devoted to Picasso is something.
I'd say the place is spacious with interesting gift shop.
Jakub Olszewski — Google review
I supposed everything that needs to be said about this iconic building is said.
I must admit after reading and seeing pictures of the Guggenheim remotely, I set the bar too high. That said, it is still an overwhelming sight. I am just glad I am able to see it in person.
If you come to Bilbao, a big part of that decision is because you want to see this. And the exhibits if they are to your taste.
Keat Chiew — Google review
This one is very hyped up so when you go, you go with expectations. The ticket is not expensive. The building is an architectural wonder. The exhibitions were not as impactful or wonderful for us, to be honest. Some of the sculptures, unless made by Picasso, who would care about them? Lots of space hard to fill, you walk and walk without purpose. Quite nice outside actually. The shop is overpriced massively.

I love the architectural structure of the building more than many of the art works being displayed there. The museum is very managed and it is safe. The workers are very polite and kind. I love Puppy and all the monuments outside the museum, I also love that you have enough space to sit and rest from touring the city before or after going into the museum. I really love Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.

Unique shaping and design defines this museum at the heart of Bilbao. It is tidy, clean, spacious and with good indications. It changes the content to be displayed. On-line booking is cheaper than on-site. <18 years old do not pay. Prices are ok. Unlike other museums in the basque country, child-entertainment not available: you need to entertain yourself your kids while walking the museum 😅

Just wow! The Guggenheim one is the most stunning museums I have ever visited, and probably one of the best in the world. The outside of the museum is incredibly beautiful, and you can easily spend the entire day just admiring the intricacies, details, and thought put into the architecture. The artwork featured inside the museum is relevant, thought provoking, and equally beautiful. I highly recommend this place! We didn’t have any trouble buying tickets at the door, however we went on a weekday so that was probably why. If you are going during high season (in the summer) you should probably consider purchasing your ticket in advance. :)

Not a fan of modern art but loved the museum. Incredible architecture, make sure you walk around the outside. Very interesting exhibits, some immersive. Wide variety of art. Recommend taking a guided tour to make the visit more efficient and meaningful. Buy tickets in advance. Eat in old town afterward.

Modern art just doesn’t interest me personally. Very glad that I visited the museum, but wouldn’t get tickets to go back inside. The architecture of the building along with the outdoor sculptures on the other hand were very impressive. If you’re not into modern art I’d definitely recommend visiting the Guggenheim from the outside.

The place is massive and beautiful with lots of sculptures and arts. Inside the museum is a bar and bistro, where you can get a bite and have a rest. Near the spider sculpture, a lady that takes beautiful pictures of you in an old fashioned newspaper cover p kinda print out, set up a stand there, anyone going there should definitely get their pictures taken by her.

My visit to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao was a unique and inspiring experience. From the moment I saw the majestic curvilinear architecture of the building, I knew I was about to immerse myself in an exceptional world of art. As I stepped inside, I marveled at the diversity and ingenuity of the exhibits.

Beyond the exhibitions, the museum itself is a city landmark. There's no other way to put this, it has become the landmark of the city even more than the hanging bridge itself. The park that surrounds the museum is also gorgeous. The exhibitions are another thing; you can be lucky or not.
Sergio Alejandro González — Google review
So I don’t know where to start!
The building itself from outside is gorgeous fabulous!! The area around is pretty and peaceful also nice for pictures 5 out of 5
Now the negative thing
I don’t know if we had a bad exhibition or it’s like always like this but the modern art exhibition is just ugly and has absolutely nothing, I don’t get the modern art and I also saw the people who visited it where also more likely surprised about everything inside!
And they took pictures like myself cuz I mean to look interested in it
Overall if you have time and it’s to cold or to hot outside go inside and sit on a bench for 15 Euro and look outside or wait for another exhibition otherwise spend the time around the Guggenheim museum because the outside is a 10/10

Nice exterior museum.
The interior exhibits on ground floor that are like a maze are the most interesting ones.
Very small infinity room exhibition you can stay in for 2’ only
Gift shop has nice gift options
Some of The modern exhibits were too abstract and modern for my taste. I would not call them art.! A vase on the floor with a curtain around it … 🙄
Erietta Mair — Google review
We came late in the day on a weekday. 6:20pm or so. Initially thought that 90 mins wouldn’t be enough but it was perfectly fine. Helpfully staff have said that they close the top floor first and recommended we start there. Most of the famous paintings are there, Rothko etc.
A lot more of the experience is general vibe of place altogether rather than anything specific. The building is a huge part of this both inside and outside. Personally Maman statue outside was my highlight. The fire fountain scared us when we were taking Maman pictures. It’s a great laugh. I would say definitely see the outside of the building and walk the walkway on the river side in the day and night as they give up entirely different vibes. If you approach from the city it’s not 100% clear that you can see the statues on the riverside without a ticket but you can. Sunny Guggenheim is stunning from the outside. Night too. Bear in mind it is very windy outside though if you go off season. We went at 7pm ish in late March and it was chilly but fine.
Our Bilbao highlight

This is not just an icon building but a symbol of how to regenerate a whole city. It has wonderful spaces inside to display art. Absolutely love its art collection may not be to everyone's immediate tastes but if you have an open mind it will prove a thought provoking and enjoyable treat. A personal favourite is the giant Richard Serra sculpture Hall, breathtaking.

Extraordinary museum of modern and contemporary art, designed by the renowned architect Frank Gehry. The museum was inaugurated in 1997 and has become a popular tourist attraction. It is credited with playing a major role in the revitalization of Bilbao, transforming it from an industrial city into a major cultural destination.
The Guggenheim Bilbao is famous for its unique and striking architecture. The building is made of titanium, limestone, and glass, and its curved forms have been compared to fish scales or boat with sails. The building itself is considered a work of art, and it has become a symbol of Bilbao.
It will take at least 3 hours to tour the exciting exhibition in the museum. During the winter season, it is quite cold in the museum, so you should keep that in mind when choosing clothes. The museum has a toilet and cloakroom for visitors. There is also a souvenir shop, but the souvenirs are expensive and not at the museum level.
The ticket price is €15 per person and tickets can be purchased online. It is also necessary to choose an appointment, that is, the day of arrival at the museum

Amazing collection of contemporary 20th century art. Well worth a visit.
Maria Smith — Google review
I’m not a fan of modern art, so it is ridiculous that I give a low ranking. The building is worth of the visit, while the exposition (in my opinion) does not justify a trip to Bilbao. Again, I’m not an expert but compared to many other more famous museums, I think outside is much better than inside.

The Zubizuri Bridge in Bilbao is a contemporary structure that stands out among the city's older crossings. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, this iconic footbridge features a futuristic tied-arch design and a curved walkway made of glass-bricks. Its sleek white arch, resembling a sail, spans over the Nervión River, suspending ten meters above its waters. Steel supporting cables descend from the arch and attach themselves to the footbridge, creating a ribbed and undulating appearance.
Wow, I can not imagine the river without this bridge. Beautiful arquitecture. It is a place for selfies, family and friends photos. Watch out for the gap between the bridge structure and the edge of the bridge pavement. In my opinion, children must be led by the hand of an adult. They get very happy there!

Even if it's a well know bridge in Bilbao I don't really like Calatrava's work.

It is a Calatrava bridge, it does connect two banks of the river Nervion and it looks nice from a distance.
But it falls apart, the rubber walkway and the glass around it. It pollutes the river! Incredible!
And it is not very practical, only one direction to get on and off….

Casco Viejo is the historic center of Bilbao with a charming atmosphere, set along the riverside. The medieval district features narrow alleys with an array of modern shops and traditional taverns. La Ribera market, built like a boat, offers various food stalls and pintxo bars serving Basque tapas on sticks. Notably, Santiago Cathedral is a 14th-century Gothic landmark with an impressive spire while Teatro Arriaga draws crowds to opera and dance performances.

Food is genuinely awful. In a city with so much amazing food, do not waste a meal here! Come for a drink in a lovely setting if you must but the food quality is so poor at relatively expensive prices. For example patatas bravas arrives chunky chips and mayo, salted asparagus is cold, watery, mushy white asparagus out of a tin. The pintxos is old, crusty and very basic... They have a nice sounding menu but none of the dishes we wanted (such as velvet crab and grilled squid) were available. Other people around us were also disappointed. Just warning you!
Sarah Aldridge — Google review
Smaller selection of pintxos than others in the area and honestly what they had was just “OK”. Gave 3 stars instead of 2 due to location and the food wasn’t terrible. If this is the only table available in the plaza and you only want a seat and cold drink, maybe a snack you might be satisfied here. Also, there are many pictures in this review that I assume are from the place next door which I didn’t try but looked better than Urdina.

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a small, rocky island located between Bakio and Bermeo that features a 10th-century chapel at its peak. Accessible via more than 200 stone steps, the island is connected to the mainland by a short causeway. The site is named after St John the Baptist, who local legend says visited it in the past. Fans of Game of Thrones will recognize this location from season 7.

The scenery is exactly the way you hoped it would be. The hike up and back is rigorous but very doable. Take water and use bathroom facilities before you embark. Here is my “pro” tip. Arrive EARLY meaning before the buses show up. Reservations are required. Take the earliest one you can get. If you arrive before 10:00 you may be able to access the route virtually alone. See my pics. It does not look this way an hour later

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe offers a a beautiful sea view, with incredible water colors with a man made bridge with241 steps, rocks, sea and wind. The access include a steep 400 meters of mountain walk. The magical island of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is an essential stop on the Basque coastline.
At the end of the steps you can step in a footprint said to have been left by Saint John the Baptist and to bring good luck. At the top you will find a picturesque chapel and, above all, spectacular views over the stormy Bay of Biscay, which has carved cliffs, tunnels and impossible arches out of the island. Spain has too much to offer, this is one of the Country's wonders. Not a fit for everyone, you need to have good physical condition.

You need to check the website during these times:
- at 12.58 (for the trip at 13.20),
- at 14.58 (for the trip at 15.10),
- and at 16.58 (for the trip at 17.25) for extra tickets.
They do release around 12 places during these times and in 3 minutes the places are gone. It is important to be in the car park near the site. We had reception and booked the tickets literally 20 min before our trip.
Good luck:)

For centuries, the municipality of Gernika has been the gathering place of the towns of Bizkaia . In the past, each church used to send its representative there to discuss the common problems of the Lordship of Bizkaia . Since the Middle Ages, these conferences were held next to the Arbola of Gernika and were called the General Assembly of Bizkaia . As time passed, several buildings were built around the Arbola in Gernika, and finally in 1828 the construction of the current Assembly Hall or Juntetxea began. 1876 _ were maintained until the year, in that year the laws that governed the way of life in Bizkaia , that is, the Charters, they were dismantled.

Very important place for the Basques. Its nice for tourists as well. If I understood correctly, spanish kings had to take an oath here under the oak tree to respect the authonomy of the Basques. This nice tradition was abandoned in 19th century though. If I was a king of Spain, would restore it for sure...

We live near Boise, ID and many people can trace their lineage to the Basque country. So we decided to visit and learn more about our ellow residents. The region spans mostly in Spain and a bit in France by the Pyrenees mountains.
We loved visiting the area and especially Guernica where nobles came the be blessed as rulers under the oak tree.

An absolute must visit in Gernika to learn about the Basque history. Set in a beautiful place in the park. A masterpiece of the stained glass. Book online in advance as entry is limited!
Volha Friedrich — Google review
This was a very beautiful place, especially the stained glass inside. It was interesting to learn a little about the Basque history as well. You should reserve a free entry online before going. We got lucky and there was space for us shortly after we arrived.

Incredible building, art and stained glass ceiling. Be sure to book in advance, and arrive on time.

Beautiful! Very interesting history! Worth visiting and its for free.

Beautiful and educational. Events/exhibitions are also held here sometimes. Meetings are still held in the meeting room once a month.
Don’t forget to take pictures with the new and old tree of Gernika.
As for the old tree, it is customary that visitors go around the tree clockwise.

San Telmo Ermita is a historic clifftop chapel from the Renaissance, featuring an ornate wooden altar added in the 18th century. It crowns the cliff overlooking Itzurun beach, known for its beneficial properties due to high iodine concentration. The chapel was also headquarters of the brotherhood of San Telmo mareantes in the 17th century.
It is worth the walk up to the San Telmo Ermita. Once you arrive, the cliff side view is spectacular! It is a good opportunity to take outstanding photos.

A simple little basilica located in a spectacular landscape atop a cliff overlooking the beach and the bay of biscayne.

Located on the Itzurun beach and on a cliff, the small hermitage of San Telmo is dedicated to the patron saint of sailors. Inside, there is a Rococo altar from the 18th century, made of wood without polychrome or gilding. There are images of Santiago and Santa Clara next to it. The first written records of this hermitage date back to 1540. In the 17th century it was the seat of the San Telmo brotherhood

The Cristobal Balenciaga Museoa, located in Getaria, is a museum dedicated to the work of famed fashion designer Cristobal Balenciaga. The museum features displays of haute couture outfits designed by Balenciaga during his peak in the 1950s and '60s. Visitors can also take tours and courses on fashion techniques. The building's minimalist architecture complements the exhibition, which highlights how women were constrained during that time period through the dresses on display.
Impressive place with very helpful guides.

Well, this museum is located in a very Nice building, a mix of old and new but didnt find IT worth playing 10 euro. Last hour before closure you can visit the museum for free. Kids would pay 7 euro but Will find IT boring.

It is my inspiration site. To put you in the situation, I am a designer and each of the dresses on display seems to me to be a jewel. My partner who likes fashion but whose life is not in it also loved it.
The museum is divided into 3 floors and they recommend that you start on the last one to delve deeper into the Balenciaga universe as you go down. It is perfectly designed so that you do not get lost and enjoy. From the architectural forms, the elegance and minimalism unusual at the time and the prominence on the backs to sometimes temporary exhibitions like they have right now by the designer Josep Font, architect and designer of the Spanish house Del Pozo; It is a wonder of a museum for fashion lovers.

The museum is a nice building by itself. With a modern look to it, mostly inside 👍
I was there with my girlfriend who did a course about fashion design. Even tho' she really likes the exposition, the amount of pieces displayed weren't enough compared to the amazing work Balenciaga produced 🙄
I'll still go for it if you pass by Getaria but I would'nt do a stop just for it.
Adrien Hecq — Google review
Very, very expensive (€14) for a visit that will take most visitors under an hour to complete. The new building is a monstrosity. Enormous and a sore thumb amid all the wonderful old architecture. And yet despite its size, the collection is surprisingly thin. There is very little about the artist himself. No personal belongings, no texts, nothing about his family or upbringing despite this being his hometown. And for such a new space, there's a glaring lack of multimedia and cutting-edge displays. It's also sad (though I guess not surprising?) that one cannot buy any Balenciaga clothing in the gift shop. Not worth going out of your way for this museum, but if you have time to kill in Getaria (esp during the last hour of the day, when it's free to enter), it's an ok stop.

Rates a 4 star if you are into fashion. I would have loved more samples of clothes & better lighting.

Extremely beautiful museum which explains the history of the brand and most importantly throws light upon the founder, Cristóbal Balenciaga who hailed from the town of Getaria. The museum does a really good job of showing the evolution of Balenciaga's designs over the years. The museum has everything explained in Euskara, Spanish, English and French which is really nice for the tourists. The entrance fee of 12€ is a bit steep though hence the reduction by one star.

an outstanding museum the size of Getaria city itself, dedicated to an artist who revolutionised fashion and design, and the museum itself is an architectural masterpiece, constructed of steel as you do in the Basque Country.

Liked the minimalist architecture and the exhibition gave us all pause for thought about how women were constrained in that time period which the dress evokes

Really beautiful building and interesting story. The only downside is no cafe. And that you walk through the historical building next to it, without knowing about it. Would be nice if they would implement the old building in some other way

For those who like fashion, history and Balenciaga.
Public and free parking could be a problem in Getaria, approximately 16 km from San Sebastian Donostia.

Not as many gowns as I had expected. Quite dark inside although I expect this was to protect the fabric. A coffee shop would have been nice.

Prachtig strand. Fijn zand, hoge golven. Veel strandwachten actief en duidelijk dmv vlaggen of je de zee in mag. Parkeren op nog geen 10 min. loopafstand. Echt een aanrader als je in de buurt van de kustlijn van Baskenland bent.
