Murakami Castle Ruins

Sights & Landmarks
Hiking area
The Murakami Castle Ruins are the remains of a hilltop fortress believed to have been constructed in the early 1500s. Accessible via a trail, the ascent is moderately challenging and requires sturdy footwear and water. Insect repellent is recommended due to bugs in the area, as well as caution when walking due to snakes. The castle walls offer impressive examples of mountain fortification, with stunning views from atop.
Hard to reach. Carpark and entrance is free but got to navigate through narrow roads among houses. Walk uphill is steep but path is broad and safe. View at the top is spectacular esp during cherry blossom season. This is a historical castle site so only the foundations of original castle can be seen. No souvenir shops or show and tell for tourists.

It was an easy walk up to the castle ruins even though the track was covered with snow. The scenery from the top is amazing, where one can see the Sea of Japan.
Kenny Choy — Google review
The way up was a nice trek. Took around 20 minutes. There was a mudslide somewhat recently so the path got a little treacherous. All in all, the view is amazing, however don't expect the ruins to tell you any of their history unless you Google it yourself.

Fantastic views from the top. Great examples of mountain castle walls. Very peaceful when I visited.

Fairly good hike - wear good shoes and take water (it takes less than 30 mins to get up slowly and carefully, and faster if you are going down). Pack bug spray. There are snakes so tread with caution.

Toll road rest stop
Visitor Centers
The roadside rest stop "Sasagawa Nagare" is a scenic spot with a seaside walking route and various local produce stores. It features noodle bars and sells Echigo princess Monaka, which is known for its delicious taste. The second floor of the station has a bridge that leads to the sea and allows for easy crossing from the road. Though rocky, visitors can access the beach by taking stairs down or walking slightly to the side.
Went to the Oyster shop.good price for wild Oyster.... Great deal. Only available in Summertime.

(Translated by Google) The sea is just beautiful! !! There is also a bridge that crosses from the second floor of the roadside station toward the sea, and you can easily cross it from the road. If you go down the stairs from there, it will be a rocky place, but if you walk a little to the side, you can get down to the beach. The Echigo princess Monaka sold at the roadside station was delicious 👍 (Original)

(Translated by Google) Since I was on a trip to Niigata, I went to see Sasagawa Nagare, the northernmost scenic spot in Kaetsu. As expected, the sea was amazing and you could almost catch fish with your hands. However, it is a long road from the Murakami Interchange, and the road is narrow in some places, so going from there to the next destination, Aizu, is at its peak of fatigue! (Translated by Google) I made an appointment and visited the shrine on February 24, 2020. There was a lot of snow that day, so I prayed at a temple at the foot of the mountain. A few people have mentioned Goshuin, but it seems that Goshuin was discontinued several years ago. There have been some harsh reviews, but after speaking with him, I was able to understand the chief priest's feelings. I, myself included, would like to reevaluate our etiquette when visiting the shrine and receiving a stamp. I heard that a large group of people would pile into a one-box car, leave their goshuin books all over the place, and eat and drink while waiting without visiting the shrine. It's natural to feel offended. I can understand the feelings of those who write harsh reviews, saying, "I wanted a stamp, but...", but this is a shrine where the chief priest is mostly on his own. If you want a goshuin stamp, do you ask the chief priest about his availability in advance and make an appointment before visiting? Do you pray with all your heart by reciting the Heart Sutra while getting your goshuin stamped? I feel sorry that there are worshipers who cannot even do that. Since a living person feels this way, the gods and Buddha must be even more concerned about it. It would be outrageous if people were collecting Goshuin stamps as a result of a recent trend. It was just a little too much. Thank you very much for visiting. I love this hotel. It proves that older can be better!! This hotel is 50 years old and is still going strong. Rooms are clean, food is delicious, staff is friendly and professional, building is well-maintained and onsen full of amenities and toiletries to try. I feel like this is a comfortable and special home. We are on our roadtrip and came across this area by surprise. Seeing the beautiful sunset here, we decided to stay for the night. We are very glad we did. Room, kaiseki dinner and breakfast was less than AUD$100. Highly recommend coming early and enticing the sunset view from your room or the onsen or the lounge area. The rooms is spacious, comfortable and very clean. Kaiseki was delicious and I really enjoyed the seasonal dishes. We also tried the fried oysters (which we ordered as an extra). Staff is great! Erika-san at reception was wonderful - friendly, attentive and helpful upon check-in. Chieko-san was our server for kaiseki dinner - very helpful, proactive and kind. Excellent value. Support smaller local hotels like this with heart, soul and warmth.

I was happy to see that the building looked exactly the same as it did back then. It was a truly nostalgic and comfortable night, thanks to the hard work of the staff and the wonderful food. The windows were a little dirty, but it was spacious and I was satisfied with the view. Bottled water was provided as a service. I had a relaxing dinner in my room. I chose a plan that included Murakami beef and a choice of salt-grilled abalone or rockfish. There were a lot of items, and they were all delicious with elegant seasoning! As for the bath, the open-air bath was a little small and filled up quickly, but it had a great view and a feeling of openness. They also had lotion, face wash, shower caps, etc., so it was great to be able to put them in empty-handed. It was also great to be able to try out various shampoo buffets. It was placed next to the front desk. I think it would be nice if the shampoo buffet was placed at the entrance of the bathroom so I wouldn't have to go to the front desk. Table tennis was 330 yen for 30 minutes. I enjoyed it for the first time in a while. It was nice to be able to borrow playing cards and chargers. I was surprisingly addicted to the TEE and Yuu puzzles in my room! The whole family struggled. The breakfast was also luxurious, with a wide variety of sweet shrimp and tare cutlet rice bowls, so delicious that I ate way too much.
