We waited for an hour with hope, after exploring 神の道 (legend says the gods look for this ancient pine to know where to disembark from their journey). And what a sight it was to see Mt Fuji tower over the bay. I can absolutely see why it's listed as one of the 3 legendary sights!! Also featuring a kitty sitting atop a rock like a god himself.

Miho no Matsubara (三保の松原, Pinery of Miho, Pine grove at Miho) is a scenic area on the Miho Peninsula in Shimizu Ward of Shizuoka City, Japan. Its seven-kilometre seashore is lined with pine trees. It is the location of the legend upon which the Noh drama Hagoromo is based; on the second Saturday and Sunday of October, the city of Shizuoka holds a Hagoromo Festival and a performance of the Noh drama takes place near the pine tree of the legend.

The pine Grove is really a board walk to the beach. The beach is black volcanic gravel. The view of Mt Fuji didn't disappoint. Not all the cafes were open so there was no option for black tea and sandwiches or cake.

I must vist place in Shizuoka. Go in winter and also don't be disappointed if you can't see Fuji. Wait for a while the weather is really fickel around mount Fuji so you never know it might clear in a couple of hours PS check the weather forecast before going.

It very nice place to see Fuji mountain but make sure to plan a full day for this trip if you plan to take a photo of the mountain. It was not visible when we arrived at 9am and only by 4pm we could see something. There are plenty of things to do around and nice sashimi places

A very good place to visit for those who love beautiful scenery. I recommend you to visit on a sunny day when Mount Fuji will not be hidden by the clouds and you will able to enjoy a perfect scenery of Japan.

My 4th visit to the Miho-no-Matsubara was back in January 2021. My 5th visit was in April 2023 where I visited the entire coastline from the pine grove all the way to the northern tip where we can also see the Miho Lighthouse. Along the entire coastline, you can catch many views of Mt. Fuji with different compositions. Even if the weather is cloudy, be patient as the offshore winds blow the clouds making Mt. Fuji visible throughout the day. Naturally, a clear day during winter is the best chance to catch clear views of Mt. Fuji. In addition, the walking trails extending all the way from the lighthouse to the the pine grove is very nice and relaxing. The nearby parking lot behind the visitor's center is free. This is the beach for you if you are one of those who needs privacy to enjoy your beach time. Yes you got it right, this beach has pine trees forest lined up on one side and as it should be water on the other. Being a high tide time, the waves kept approaching the shore and we had the best time of the little beach experience that we have. Access is no issue for this place. We visited it from Yokohama and there is this one long road along the ocean side all the way through odawara. Visit this on a clear sky day and get a view of the one and only Mt. Fuji. Unfortunately for us it was cloudy and we could only get a momentary glimpse of it. Enjoy your beach time. Fully recommended. I will visit again, for sure!!!

The Kunozan Toshogu shrine is worth a visit if you're in the area. It's historically significant and also really rather impressive. The steps up the hillside can be a chore (take a bottle of water with you), particularly in warm weather.

Many of them came to pray and meditate. It looked good that elders and youngs visited for their pray. The flowers at the shinsa were blooming, so now migut be a real good time to go visit.

quite like it here - it's quiet and calm, then was able to walk around with a peaceful mind and enjoy the environment. but i went there at a late time so some entrance to the temple was already blocked, i was only able to look at it from outside. but it's beautifully built. the stairs were quite large and high, so had to walk carefully especially for elderly. i spent around an hour here but i think when it's in operation hour like around noon? when all the temples are open and welcome for worshipping, it'd be good to spend more time here to refresh and relax both body and soul here.

Should be top of the list when visiting Shizuoka! Tokugawa Ieyasu is a big deal in Japan, and it’s awesome to learn about his origins in the Shizuoka area, visit his tomb, and see his personal collection of items in the museum. This is the original Toshogu shrine where Ieyasu’s body is buried. The Nikko one was built later. We had a special tour to go inside the main hall which was amazing.

A shrine of significant historical importance which is well worth visiting if you are already at Nihondaira. If you take the ropeway, it'll only take about 5 minutes each way. There is a car that comes every 15 minutes. If you came here by car, be wary of the bus timetables.

I really enjoyed my visit to this shrine. It was very moving to be able to explore it and see the grave of Tokugawa. We took the rope way from Nihondaira and then walked down to the coast afterward. While i was there, there was a ceremony going on in the main temple for a newborn baby which was very interesting and educational for me to witness. We also went into the museum which was incredible. They have many personal items that belonged to Tokugawa and his descendants along with the armor worn by many individuals of his family line and swords that were used by them as well. It was very cool to see them and left a very strong impression. There are also some amazing views of the town and coast below the shrine. I highly recommend coming here if you have the opportunity.

A famous spot right next to Shizuoka Station. Ruins are scattered across the vast grounds. As you walk around the restored turret, you can clearly understand the historical background. The garden was also a nice place. It's interesting to see the excavation site of the remains of the castle tower. You can listen to explanations from volunteers for free, so give it a try.

I went for the Shizuoka festival! It was a beautiful park to enjoy the Sakura blossoms and spend time with family and friends. Lots of food stalls and even shows during the festival. I would like to come back next year!

The castle itself is long gone, but has the gatehouse and large grounds. The hana matsuri was in full flow when I was there. The place looked at its best. The only downside was that the rubbish bins were inadequate for the festival; consequently, there were huge piles of litter heaped around them.

Sunpu Castle At Aoi-Ku, Shizuoka, Shizuoka.Japan Relaxing .a MUST see in the list ! The castle grounds are now replaced by a nice and relaxing park. Nonetheless a lot of castle remains can be found throughout the park. In the big park signs are everywhere to make sure you will not get lost. The park itself is very peaceful and nicely set up. It is also used for all kind of public activities. One has to pay to enter the Sumpu Castle Park though (Adults ¥360, children less) as well as additionally fees if you wish to visit one or both of the reconstructed turrets.

The park is pleasant, visiting the garden is a must do. I recommend the combined ticket 3 places to visit for 360¥ Tea in the garden tea house is 600¥

I love eating fresh Sushi made out of fresh fish from the ocean nearby, wasabi prepared from a wasabi root that is grown from there. I would go back again.

Many local goods and several shops of interest in this big shopping mall. My family and I went on the Ferris Wheel, which was managed well and we even bought the photo after we finished the ride. The highlight of the visit was the kaiten sushi restaurant. It was kind of small, but the fish was incredibly delicious. My wife wanted to have sushi in this port town, and we didn't regret our decision. Great service at every location and a place I will return to whenever I can. We were visiting from Nagano Prefecture and loved our day trip!

A shuttle bus (10-15mins ride) is available from Shimizu JR - go by the East Exit and there will be a pickup stop for shuttle buses. On foot will take about 20-25mins. A nice and clean quaint zoo that started in the 60s. Most of the animals seemed content and well cared for. I enjoyed my time here. Watch out for school trips as the zoo can become quite busy.

If you want to get great seafood for a fraction of the price and super fresh definitely check out Shimizu fish market. While it’s not massive it has pretty much what we were looking for. There are 2 floors but the second floor was mostly closed. We went to まぐろ大国 located on the first floor and it was so worth it. Since it’s close to the station it was really easy to walk to! It was a weekday so it was empty and we could choose where we wanted! Very underrated place!

It feels like a small yet cozy place to visit. Mind you the opening time is 10:00AM, I did go early by accident but glad that I did and therefore found out about the water bus. A lot of options for seafood, do recommend you come to try out some of them!
