A relatively easy 30-40 minute hike from the parking lot to the top. Road to the station parking lot is quite a bad gravel one, but still doable on a motorcycle.

Two of the 5 in my family members gave up in the middle of the mountain. It would take a little bit more than one hour to get to the top if you don't stop climbing. If you or your groups want to see just the view easily, I recommend Mountain Usu or Mountain Tenguyama in Otaru. There is a cable car(ropeway) so you can go to the top within 10mins. Mt Usu has a hiking route on the top so the group can separate and do whichever people want( watching the views or hiking). Mountain Tenguyama also has a bear sign. so It is just for viewing.

Allocate 3-4 hours for the trip, including spending time at the summit and walking around the rim.

Bring enough water as there is no chance to get some from parking to the top. Toilets are available at the parking lot so better use them before you start your hike.

Good things about Tarumae is There will be beautiful view of Lake Shiretoko all the way to the top.
