I travel a lot and been many places , many cable cars . This one is my second worst overpriced cable car after Porto in Portugal cable car. Whole little village is basically made up o car parking places with nobody there to park , with probably 50 tourists a day as whole cable car attraction is Shadowed by scam of expensive parking, difficult to get there and once you there you have to climb steep steps up for about 1km then to find out that cable car runs from nowhere to nowhere that cost ¥1120 return and only runs for 3 min. No views on going up as car surrounded by trees on both sides. Not sure bout other reviews as probably made by locals and to prove how bad there is and badly managed, place was absolutely empty . I was on cable car alone , with no tourist to bee seen anywhere as like myself who drove to the place to find out overpriced carparks and people turning around and going away. I did managed to park for free by police station and had to walk quite a bit . Even is someone decides to go there keep in mind that it is not for older people or who is unfit as getting to cable car alone takes most of your energy and whole village is ran by Micky mouse
You need to get there after passing lots of stairs. It is little tiring but fun to see Japanese style shops. The signs on the stairs are encouraging and fun.

Nestled on the scenic Mount Oyama, Oyama Afuri Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine renowned for its rainmaking deities. Visitors can reach the shrine by riding the new cable cars, offering breathtaking views of the Kanto plain and ocean. The shrine's young priest, 27th in a line of spiritual leaders, provides insightful guidance on the surprising history of the Oyama pilgrimage.
One of the best places to visit in autumn. The vibrant colors of the leaves would really take your breath away.
Going up, there are two options, hiking or riding the cable car(¥450 one way). Hiking has two options as well, Onna-zaka (easier way) or otoko-zaka (steeper way), both ways would entail walking lots of stairs! The steeper way is less crowded, hence more chances of seeing wild deers! Hiking takes about more or less than an hour depending on pace, it’s most important to take your time and enjoy!
There are food stalls selling mochis, coffee, sandwiches, soft cream, noodles and even beer near the shrine.
After the shrine, you can go all the way up to the summit of Mt. Oyama which takes about two hours or just get down by walking or by taking cable car. The last trip for cable car is at 5:00 on weekends and 4:30 on weekdays.
Getting here earlier would give more time to enjoy and relax!

Very peaceful shrine with very little foreigner. This is how a shrine should be, silent, peaceful. I’m positive that this place is still unseen for most tourist.
Please note that the shrine located on the mountain, so there’s a LOT of stair and on the way here was mostly stairs or slopes. Please be prepared. But I promised that it’s worth every single sweat!

The shrine is not anything majestic. Its like many other shrines around Tokyo and other places. But the natural panaromic view of the surrounding locality is wonderful. You can directly see even Enoshima Island from up there. The long stairway to the shrine looks very beautiful from the top.

From the website
Oyama Afuri Shrine is a ceremonial shrine that is said to have been built during the reign of Emperor Sujin, the 10th Emperor of Japan, more than 2,200 years ago. Since ancient times, Sagami Province has been revered as a sacred mountain for the protection of the Kanto region. Jomon pottery, which is thought to have been used for rituals, has been unearthed from the summit, which is 1,252 meters above sea level, testifying to the ancient history of the mountain. Daisen is also known as "Amefuriyama" and has been widely loved. The name Amefuri is said to have originated from the fact that clouds and fog always form over the mountains, causing rain.

If you just want to go sightseeing, take a cable car and go shrine.
If you want to go mountain climbing, then go further after cable car.
It takes about 90mins on the way, 60mins on the way back. On top of the mountain doesn't have much, but you can bring your food and enjoy.
Mount Oyama, standing at 1,252 meters tall, is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts seeking breathtaking panoramic views. The mountain has a rich history dating back over 2000 years to the founding of the original Oyama Afuri Jinja Shrine. Accessible from Isehara Station, just an hour's train ride from Shinjuku, visitors can choose to hike the trails or take the Oyama Cable Car up to the shrine.
We started at around 8:30 from Isehara station. Bus #10 takes about 30 minutes to the Oyama Ropeway station. Then we walked some 360 stairs to the ropeway entrance. The ropeway is scheduled 3 times per hour, retour costs some 1150yen. After the ropeway, we hiked the direct trail to the top. Not long, but very tiring. Backwards we took the trail towards Miharashidai. Longer, but easier, and there are beautiful views too. We got on the bus at around 15:00, and then went from the Isehara station to the Tokaidaigaku-mae station by train. There we relaxed in the Hadano Natural Onsen Sazanka.

We climbed Mt. Oyama on 9th March 2024. At this point most of the upper part of the mountain is covered with snow, and sometimes it gets slippery when you encounter hard snow, be careful and be prepared. The cable car stops the operations after 5 Pm, so plan accordingly.
The view from top is beautiful, and to explore more of it I hope you climb it yourself and experience the beauty 😍😍.

Very nice hiking trail went in early September. I recommend taking the cable car if you are a not a expert hiker. The trail is very steep, rocky, muddy and slippery. So please wear either sneakers with traction or hiking shoes. The scenery is great and there is a noodle shop at the top of the mountain. If you choose to drive to the cable car station there is a guy who has a parking lot for ¥700 for the whole day. Overall loved the hike…almost died but enjoyed the adventure.😂☺️

Climbed this beautiful mountain on a late summer morning in July. The trail was not very difficult and if you are in good health, you should be able to climb this fairly quickly. However, don’t expect to get a view of Mt. Fuji from at the summit. You’ll get to see Fuji-san on your way up to the summit.
This mountain attracts a decent crowd over the weekends so you’ll see a lot of people on your way up and down.

This is the medium level trek. Most of the times it rains there so better prepare for it.
Torch is also recommended!
Sunset is beautiful from Top!
At the base there are many onsen resorts, so you can refresh it.
There are three main points but you can cover at the time two easily (Oyama Afuri shrine & Hinata Yakushi temple).
Better to start early in the morning.

A beautiful mountain climb and definitely doable if you have a reasonable level of fitness. Catching the train from Tokyo to Isehara station and then a bus to the mountain, a short 10min walk to the cable car and then making about a 1-2 hike up the mountain you reach the top woth views of Mt fuji, the coast and tokyo (if you can see it with the smog). If you intend on doing this hike I suggest bringing some watch and some food. We did some shopping at the 7/11 at Isehara station before leaving.

There is a ropeway, but it took us about 90 minutes up a steep slope to the summit! It was by no means an easy journey. The westward route was extremely hard with rolling rocks! The eastbound route was relatively easy with paved stairs. From near the summit we could see the beautiful Mt. Fuji. In addition, from the summit station, if you go down the mountain without the ropeway, you get to enjoy some incredibly steep stairs! We were satisfied with our hard climbing. Also, the restaurant near the summit ropeway station was very good. And the souvenir shop at the base of the mountain was just as traditional and fabulous! Fantastic Place!!

Great place for a day trip if you’re near Isehara. Apparently you can hike up there but we took the 15 min cable car. On a sunny day you can look as far as Enoshima Island from the temple.

Big shocker guys, in the winter there's no toilet for the entire hike starting for the shrine (shimosha), and the lopped trail by the book is at least 3 hours including break and photo. Scenary is awesome like most mountain and won't disappoint.
Also, the trail is quite old and for anyone with similar knee aches, I highly recommend going clockwise starting from shimosha, this way you'd come down with an easier trail that won't hurt your articulation as much.
Also, dears on these mountains are real. Remember to stay away and no feeding

The Ghibli Museum is a whimsical and enchanting facility celebrating the history and works of Studio Ghibli, the renowned animation studio behind beloved films like Totoro, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke.
Loved every bit of this museum. I recommend going during a weekday as it's much less crowded, buy tickets in advance using the Lawson Ticket app online! Admission includes an exclusive short film and the museum is filled with stunning original drawings from Miyazaki. Very much worth the ¥1,000 price. The cafe is pretty average and doesn't have anything special. The gift shop is on the top floor as well as the big cat bus that only small children are allowed to play in. The garden on the roof is the best part cause you can take photos here (no photos allowed inside but anywhere outside is fine)! This place is a must see for any Ghibli fan!
Amy Yuka Vogenthaler — Google review
It’s an experience for all those who love Ghibli. You MUST buy tickets in advance, either online (which then show up in an app that you have to download, requiring a Japanese phone number, or you can choose to pick up the ticket at a Lawson) or through a Lawson convenience store.
The main building is whimsical inside, but no photos are allowed, which is a massive shame. You’re only allowed to take photos outside. Upon entry, you’re provided with one ticket (per person) that features a random clip of a scene from a Ghibli movie (see photo), which you use as a ticket for the mini film theatre inside the main building. The short films are rotated throughout the year, and currently they have 10 short films. There is also a small exhibit that rotates their display. This ensures people return.
There is a small cafe to the side of the main building, with a limited menu to satisfy hunger, along with an ice cream stand to one side. There’s nothing on the menu to cater for those with dietary restrictions, so make sure you bring your own food if you do have concerns in this area.
Cat M — Google review
Photos inside not being allowed was the most annoying part, but overall an amazing experience. Definitely worth it. Need to buy tickets in advance they are available at the beginning of the month and sell out quickly. Almost all info about exhibitions was in Japanese so I’d suggest prior research to anticipate any questions. Staff was very nice and helpful.
Elektra — Google review
Very nice museum but not as big as the ghibli park but still it's a nice place to explore. With a nice short movie and a wall to wall sketches and drawings from the artist, it's something to see. Worth getting your hands on the tickets even if you have to wait online. Overall, very exciting.
I Chen (AngelsofGod) — Google review
You have to get your tickets in advanced and they’re priced reasonably. I do recommend going in the morning as it was less packed. They don’t allow photography inside as it takes away the experience for others. They give you a piece of film upon entry which is cool and inside you’ll experience little features of inspirations for the films and how things come together. There isn’t a lot of things here that’ll make you stay too long but if you’re a fan, it’s quite a magical place to see. They also have a short film you can watch which was cute but honestly isn’t too important.
Phil Li — Google review
The Ghibli Museum is a small but intriguing museum showcasing two permanent exhibitions about Ghibli movies that show stylized scenes from their most well known movies. The second exhibition is a series of rooms designed to show the creation process of Ghibli movies. There are hundreds of images of movie scenes as drawn by the artists plastered on the walls. The theater shows a short animation three times per hour. There is also a cafe serving small food items and drinks, however the food options are not Ghibli styled.
You can expect to spend around 1 to 2 hours in the museum.
Photography inside the museum is strictly prohibited. You can only take pictures outside which essentially only applies to the iron giant on the roof.
Entry into the museum requires buying a ticket in advance. Ticket sales open on the 10th of every month shortly before 10am Japan time.

If you are a fan of Ghibli, you must come visit here. It is really hard to get the ticket. However, it is totally worth trying hard to get one. It is not a big place to enjoy. Small but overwhelming. You can watch a special Ghibli video for around 15 minutes. You can buy a limited version of Ghibli goods. Also, learning about how anime is being made. Things to learn, things to buy, things to eat, and things to be memorable.

A wonderful place to visit.
The museum focuses on how the films are put together rather than the characters of the films.
Sadly, there are no photos of the inside as they are not allowed.
The Restaurant had a long queue and the food was good.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The cinema showed a short film which was enjoyable.
The museum is a 25 minute walk from the station or a short bus ride.
You must buy tickets in advance as there are none on the door. It is best to book these as early as you can as there are a limited number.
Definitely recommended and worth the grief of booking (1am UK time).

Ghibli Museum was a great experience.
You can see how the films were made. We went on the weekend so it was extremely crowded. You will have to buy the tickets a week in advance, and they sold out quickly.
You are not allowed to take photos in the museum. The only part I didn't enjoy was it was too crowded with many children running around and screaming, which makes it exhausting to navigate. You can only buy drinks from a cafe if you are thirsty, so I recommend bringing your water bottle with you to the museum.

So glad I was able to get tickets to come here. It was very challenging getting tickets here as a foreigner, but there are ways to do it. Tickets must be purchased at least 1-2 months in advance. Pictures are only allowed outside, but I feel that gives you the opportunity to really enjoy the exhibits inside without being on your phone. They have English translations of the exhibits you can ask for as well. The cafe here was good too. I highly recommend doing your research and planning to come here. Also, make sure you walk around the park the museum is in afterwards!

It was such a treat to visit this place! Oh God, I don't know where to begin.. There is something magical about anything related to Ghibli. The fact that we had the opportunity to book the tickets was amazingly and made the experience extra special! As you know, you need to book tickets 3 months in advance! And we were able to buy them only 2 months before, which was extremely hard.
We couldn't take photos inside the exhibitions as it wasn't allowed, but that made it even magical because you can't expect what you'll see..
The museum is 3 floors, 3 exhibitions, 2 shops, a cafe, and a roof that has the robot from the movie Castle in the Sky, which you can reach when climbing a ladder inside a tower covered with plants.
There is also a unique, peaceful garden downstairs.
You can't enter the museum before your booked time, so make sure to give yourself 3 -4 hours to enjoy all details without rushing it as the museum will close at 5 pm.
It was super easy to get to the museum from Mitaka Station. You'll find a bus stop for Ghibli and a themed bus as well (Stop #9).
When you're done, don't leave! Explore the peaceful park around the museum, it's has a lake with swan boats, cafes, and more. There is also a near street with vintage clothing shops.

A must visit for ghibli fans.
The museum itself is the main attraction. It is playful. Childish. Fun. Colourful. Everything is made from the eyes of children. I loved it.
The exhibitions were a little lackluster, but I guess it is because I love the more mainstream movies.
Either way we ended up spending 2 hours and just had a fun time.

A must for any fan of Ghibli! The exhibitis in the museum are wonderful and brings back memories of the various Ghibli creations. The building itself is quite stunning inside.
There is also an iron to view a short Ghibli animation in the onsite theatre which was quite a great and highly recommended. As a bonus, the ticket stub is also a slide of a Ghibli, which makes for a nice souvenir.
The only downside is that photography is not permitted inside the building. A real disappointment given the unique photography opportunities.

As a child, I thought of Ghibli's studio as a place of freedom, adventure, and exploration.
Today, that pretty much hasn’t changed.
Ghibli Studio was made to put guests in another world. Guests can step away from reality for a while and become immersed in a playground of storytelling and fantasy, which is why Ghibli Studio is so popular and no other company has been able to compete with it.
This was my first time in the Ghibli museum and the staff was so kind and helpful . I came from Saudi Arabia to see my childhood dream and I’m so happy.
There are two staff outside the museum for chick in, I’ll never forget them in my life. Thank you so much.

This is my seventh time here and it is invariably wonderful. The experience of watching the short film is terrific; it would be worth coming just for that.
The only thing I didn't like this time is the Cafe: the quality of the food, especially sweets, has dramatically declined, and that's a real shame.
Still, 5 stars well deserved!
WARNING. This place is a real Museum, it's not Disneyland, so all you people who say "there's not much to do, there's not much to see...", well, take a walk!

There’s not much to do, also photos aren’t allowed inside the museum. But maybe some fans would really enjoy the place.
It’s a bit hard to appreciate the museum especially with the number of tourists inside since the building itself is a bit smaller than expected.
Wish they would add in more character decorated food on their menu as well.
Overall, it was an ok experience. But not sure if I can recommend.

Tickets sell out fast and are only released once a month (10th I think). They are pretty inexpensive but the number of people who want tickets is huge so the virtual waiting room is large. It was a lovely experience, full of whimsy and incredibly rich artwork. I didn't even know Ghibli and I was completely in awe. Highly recommend

Late post. I visited Ghibli Museum in April 2018, it’s a must go place for Ghibli fans! And even if you only watch a few of their works, it’s still a great place to visit.
There’s a short animation screening that changes every few months and I heard it’s only shown in the museum. There’s also souvenir shop and cafe within the vicinity. There’s also yellow Ghibli bus going to the museum from Mitaka station.
Though getting the tickets to the museum were not easy and straightforward for foreigners, but it’s worth it! You need to pick a time slot so I think they limit the number of visitors per time slot to avoid over crowding the place. During my visit, there were a lot of people but there was comfortable space between people.

It's good for kids and adults too. You can see old Ghibli movies shots. There is a cafe inside with a limited menu. Recommended to take your own food and drinks. You are allowed to eat and drink only in designated place. You can't take pics inside but you are allowed to click pics outside. It's crowded as we visited on weekends. IMP: they check your ID card and name on your tickets. You can get a bus to mitaka station just outside the play area.

You would love this place if you are a fan of Ghibli movies. A lot of original drawings and screenplays of movie scenes can be found here. The process of carton movie making is quite interesting. A short movie session is included.
Even the museum restricts the numbers of people visiting per day, it’s still quite crowded. And the museum is small but has very unique layout. No photos inside.
Leon Zhang — Google review
This was simply an amazing experience. They don’t let you take pictures inside, so you need to pay a visit to see the content. There are several sections inside: a movie theater that plays a short film (that you can only see here) every 20 minutes, there is a section where you can see original hand drawings of the team, a permanent exhibition room, a whole room dedicated to the cat bus (play area for kids) and a nice cafe. This is a great visit if you have young kids, or if you’re adults. One of the most calming and wholesome experiences we have had. You just need to book the tickets a month in advance. If you have someone in Japan that can pick up a ticket with your name (you need to show an ID that matches the name on the ticket, otherwise they deny entry) that is the best option. Otherwise you need to use the website and try your luck.

Really cute museum! It’s quite small but the exhibits are so well thought out and detailed. As a Ghibli fan it was so awesome to see so many intricate references and objects placed throughout - even the building itself if so quaintly Ghibli themed; the non-Ghibli fans I went with also found it just as cool.
Make sure to catch the exclusive film they show in the theatre, they are currently showing ‘Looking for a Home’ and it’s such a lovely little film. The gift shops are also great with many Ghibli themed souvenirs to take home. All the staff were so lovely and helpful and the overall atmosphere was impeccable. The cafe was also themed in a nice subtle way and the food was good and not overly overpriced! If you have more time do have a walk around the surrounding park, it’s great for a picnic.
Buy tickets in advance!! And do note you cannot take pictures inside.

I visited the Ghibli museum with my husband, and it was somewhat enjoyable. It's better to visit in the morning, because our afternoon was reservation was extremely crowded and humid, where the stairs and elevators were usually backed up. There was one exhibit that had a full line-up where we waited over 20 minutes just to see a unique film display. We ended up leaving the line to skip that, along with several other visitors too. I love studio Ghibli and grew up watching a lot of their movies. But overall, the museum catered more towards youths and families. My husband thinks it's a tourist trap, and I think that I would have enjoyed it when I was 15 or more years younger.
The museum is 3 floors (4 if you count the rooftop with the robot), and we covered all of it plus, the straw hat cafe within an hour. This included the one time short-film you can watch at the theatre which is a Ghibli museum original. Overall, the museum is cute and there's a gift shop that sells original Ghibli products. The film ticket souvenirs are cute, too. Besides that, I would not visit again unless kids are involved. Definitely a good place for families and die-hard Ghibli studio fans though!
E T — Google review
The museum is exciting to explore, but is perhaps catered solely towards hardcore Ghibli fans, which is unfortunate for everyone else. Most rooms are decorated simply with sketches and drawings. All text is exclusively Japanese, making it difficult for foreigners to traverse the exhibitions. The food is delicious, but will require a prolonged wait before ordering. I recommend watching the movie, screened only at the museum.
Lachie S. — Google review
No walk-ins, only reserved for ticket holders. A great place to visit even if you’re not a Ghibli fan. Get to see behind the scenes of an animation film which was pretty cool. The museum is indoor and we only spent about 3 hours to see the whole museum (including a short 15 mins film).
Frosting — Google review
What an amazing museum! Everything here is themed, from the stained glass windows to the tickets made with pieces of actual 35mm film. Each of the exhibits is interesting and child-friendly, with interactive elements. There aren't English translations, but everything felt pretty self-explanatory and I didn't feel like I missed out on too much. Photos aren't allowed indoors, but there are plenty of photo opportunities outside and with the Laputa robot on the roof.
Make sure you get tickets for right when the museum opens at 10am, on a weekday if possible. We were 15 minutes late and just had about an eight-minute wait, but the line looked pretty long when we left around 11:45am.

The Ghibli Museum was a beautiful work of art! This museum was full of references to the amazing Ghibli movies, and it was filled with amazing exhibits. Unfortunately, photography was not allowed inside, but all of the displays were truly out of this world. One of the best parts was watching a random short film. We watched A Sumo Wrestler’s Tail, which I highly recommend for its beautiful animation and fun story. Just seeing a glimpse into the filmography of these pieces was incredible. We were also fortunate enough to see some of the emerging cherry blossoms in the neighboring park. Do not miss out on this fabulous museum!

A small museum for what it’s Ghibli in general. It’s good. We like it. Just we would love more experiences to have them at the museum. Buy your tickets in advance. Everyday tickets are sold out! So if you were thinking to get the tickets on the spot. Think it twice.
Neto Treviño — Google review
I would give this museum five stars if there was more to do however, for the price of ¥1000 of entry I find that it was a good value. I would pay more to have more activities more rooms, more character representation in the café. Other than that, it’s very cute and if you are a fan of Studio Ghibli you will definitely enjoy this. There’s no photos allowed to be taken inside so all I have are images from outside. You must book this in advance. There are no reservations that are made at the door. There is a wait online, so make sure you sign on as soon as the reservations start or you might miss it. Also, make sure that you watch the free film that comes with your ticket. It is so adorable. You will not regret it.

A nice museum for Ghibli fans and those who appreciate the behind the scenes of animation! I especially enjoyed the short film they show, the architecture (great for pictures), and the souvenir shop. I will say the cafe was overpriced for some mediocre food and this museum is a place you only need to go to once since it’s small.
Valerie Nestor — Google review
There is no ticket sale at the venue, so you must book tickets beforehand.
For only around $10-$12 this is a super worthwhile experience. There's a book shop and gift store that you can buy souvenirs from.
The exhibitions are so fun and educational, this is a Ghibli lover's heaven. They have a small theatre which plays a short film every 15 minutes.
There's also a cafe outside to relax and enjoy some food.

This museum is absolutely amazing especially if you are a fan of Ghibli! The exhibits go over the early beginnings of film and show the inspiration and early forms of various Studio Ghibli movies as well as including a theater for a short film. Pictures are not allowed inside the building, you have to go to experience just how great it is!
Tickets must be bought in advance, you cannot purchase at the museum itself.

Inokashira Park, a 95-acre city park established in 1917, offers a serene escape with its picturesque pond, boating facilities, and scenic trails. The park is renowned for its cherry blossoms, attracting crowds to admire the majestic weeping cherry blossom tree at Rikugien Garden. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely date with attractions like swan boats, temples to explore, and opportunities for picnics.
Very beautiful place. Amazing place to spend time with your family, friends. You can also do boating there. Zoo is also available inside the park. It takes at least 40-50 mins to see all the park. I will highly recommend you to visit this park.

A lovely park to walk through and spend some time on a sunny day (mid October)! We visited on our way to Ghibli Museum which is we sign posted on the way.
There is a shrine within the park which we stumbled upon that was very serene. I would highly recommend visiting this park to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and to relax when its nice weather.

Sakura was in full bloom. Not too many visitors on a weekday. I enjoyed so much the stunning scenery there. The pale pink colour of the Yoshino sakura was gorgeous. Full bloom only lasted a few days. Highly recommend to pay a visit in the near future to avoid disappointment.
Restrooms were available in the park. Easily accessible but unfortunately not that clean and smell a bit.

This is a very nice park to stroll through. There are also many good shops (especially second hand) near the park. You can’t rent out different kinds of paddle boats to ride in the lake. (I believe it’s 30 minutes) I really enjoyed the little coffee shop that was in a car. They also had an old fashioned TV on display there. They have hot coffee, tea, cocoa, and wine. I highly recommend this for a family outing or for a romantic date.

One of my favorite parks in Tokyo!
It's usually not as crowded compared to other parks located closer to the Tokyo center so you get to fully enjoy it without meeting too many people on your stroll (except, of course, for cherry blossom viewing season).
It ties together really well with the closely located Ghibli museum so I definitely recommend exploring this beautiful green space before or after visiting the museum~

Small but well maintained park with two lakes connected by bridges, outlined with sakura trees. Cafés and a Buddhist temple inside. There are public toilet and accessible facilities. Right now the sakura is blooming so it was very busy with picnicers, even during a weekday afternoon - I would avoid this spot at the weekends personally as it would be very overcrowded. The Swan boating lake looks pretty but much smaller than expected with way too many boats!

Beautiful park to explore Sakura but one should either come early morning during weekend or on a weekday. Weekend gets really crowded and it becomes difficult to spend more time in the park.
The view is worth a visit though.

Such a beautiful park! The cherry blossoms were beautifully bloomed while we were here. We initially came to this area for the Ghibli museum and I’m so glad we took the time to walk around the park afterwards. We rented a pedal boat and took a ride on the lake. Even if you don’t plan on going to the museum, this park is a must!

Love this huge public park! It has huge lake with duck boats, as well as zoo. The walking track is also nice and wide. During weekend, it can get really crowded, so need to be mindful. Park was so lovely in autumn - lots of fall colors. Convenient and near to train stations. There are cafes in the park, too in case one is hungry and thirsty. Numerous paths for walking, biking and running. There’s a zoo and boat rentals during the warmer seasons. Lots of benches and clean restrooms.
Pam B — Google review
The park was very clean, and all dogs were leashed and properly handled.
The atmosphere was peaceful yet lively with joggers, families, vendors selling handcrafted goods (average ¥100), birdwatchers, etc.
There were bridges, shrines, and more to take memorable photos with loved ones, and regardless of the season, the trees and animals added to the beauty of the photos.
Refer to the park map for the zoo & aquarium, but check for opening ours as depend on seasons and close earlier during the winter.

Inokashira Park Zoo is a family-friendly destination in Tokyo, Japan. It features interactive experiences where visitors can touch and hold small animals. The zoo is divided into two sections: one dedicated to breeding and releasing mandarin ducks into the wild, along with other indigenous animals like red-crowned cranes, Amur cats, rhesus monkeys, and Yaku deer; the other section houses various species including tropical birds.
Nice zoo that has 2 main areas: 1. Aquatic animals and 2. Farm animals. Very kid-friendly zoo, guinea pig/hamster petting and feeding has a schedule. Best part of this zoo was the squirrel house. They just run around freely. There's also a sculpture museum inside the zoo.

Took our kids here on a weekday afternoon before visiting the well-known museum nearby. I was impressed with the quality of the exhibits given that I went in knowing it was a small zoo. This zoo reinforces the idea that kids don't need a massive overwhelming zoo to enjoy animals.
The playground was nice as well, probably best for kids under 10 years old. Price was good.

I can't stress enough how beautiful this park is during cherry blossoms season late March and early April, I came during early April 2022, and the flowers were beginning wilt and were falling off. I recommend in late March. The experience was once in a life time especially for those not coming back to Japan anytime soon. One of the most memorable experiences in Japan.

The Zoo itself wasn’t so bad; although, there was an external bird area with cages too small; many of them were too crowded, and others, like the cranes and herons, looked really sad.
The main area had some small animals and many spaces where the kids can learn and interact, like a guinea pig petting room, or a huge squirrel cage where you can enter and see them playfully jumping and running everywhere.

Really relaxing place that has a small town community park feel blended with a zoo. Due to this more open layout, you are free to explore the various exhibits how you like, which means you do need to keep track of where you went/what you saw if you want to see it all. Many other zoos have set walking paths that kind of guide you through much of those zoo exhibits to a certain degree. Plentiful large seating, shade, and play areas, even a mini amusement park. The tickets were very affordable and cover both the zoo and the aquatic life park.

Beautiful zoo in the park. I went there on Saturday around 11.30am. The crowd in the zoo was ok. But the park gets busy around 12pm. The zoo has 2 parts, 1 focus on small animals and the other on aquatic animals. Just need to pay for 1 ticket to visit both park. The small animal park has a small amusement park in it. I am a regular here and I always go at least 2 times a week.
Also, I am very impressed on how POLITE and NICE the staff and managers are. I am not the type to give reviews to places, but this is an exception.
Currently they are selling popcorn and waffles near the escalator with very affordable price and delicious taste. Again, I am very impressed!

This is one of my favorite movie theatres. It is less than a minute from the station. The place is clean and often has little crowds so it is a nice place to relax. There is a nice seating area aswell. It is only 2 stories as well. Compared to other tokyo movie theaters it is the most chill movie theater I've been too. There are also some good places to eat nearby while waiting for your movie to start.

Comfortable seats, good online booking system, terrible times available for new 2D movies. The amenities are largely very good. The selection of films, foreign and domestic, are generally quite good (they get all the blockbusters). It's a toos-up whether an animated film from abroad has subtitles or dubbing.
Most theatres have "loveseats" for couples, but these seats are often booked out by singles. Kind of annoying, really, when you want a date night with your special movie-going someone.

My visit to Takaosan Yakuōin Yukiji Temple was truly memorable, combining spirituality with adventure amidst the stunning natural beauty of Mount Takao. The trekking experience leading up to the temple was invigorating, offering breathtaking views of lush forests and serene landscapes along the way. The well-marked trails and gentle slopes made the ascent enjoyable for adventurers of all levels.
Upon reaching the temple, I was greeted by a sense of tranquility and reverence. The ancient architecture and serene surroundings provided a serene sanctuary for reflection and meditation. The temple's history and cultural significance added depth to the experience, making it more than just a stop along the trail.
After exploring the temple grounds, I opted for the ropeway descent, which offered a thrilling aerial perspective of the mountain and surrounding area. The panoramic views were simply spectacular, making the descent both exhilarating and memorable.
While my experience was nearly flawless, I deducted one star due to the occasional crowds and wait times, particularly during peak seasons. Despite this minor inconvenience, Takaosan Yakuōin Yukiji Temple remains a must-visit destination for nature lovers, spiritual seekers, and adventure enthusiasts alike.

Love this place I try to get here as much as I can. This time I did the full hike which only took less than 1.5hr to the top. Unfortunately trails 4 and 6 were covered in snow so I’ll be back on a warmer day. Great views of Fuji-San on this day.

If you love hiking, this is the place for beginners to go up to the top and on a good clear day, Mt. Fuji can be seen. A good attraction just outside Tokyo central (1hr 20+ mins from Shinjuku)

Beautiful shrine with a lot of statues. The design on the door of the temple is really amazing. It’s near from the takao summit.

Beautiful Temple in the Mountain represent mountain god (tengu). Statues of the gods, one with a long nose and one with a crow beak, can be found at the temple and also other spots around the mountain.

Very beautiful and I interesting place. Not too crowded on a Sunday. Cooler than being in the city. If you take the lift the walk up the mountain isn't too steep. You can visit with children.

Yakuoin Temple [高尾山藥王院] of Takao Mountain, initially built in 744 AD, worships the Medicine God, although current major worship halls were built in 1729 and 1753 and were renovated and expanded a few times in 18th and 19th centuries.
While visitors of Yakuoin Temple may be impressed at Temple complex, but mountain road from cable car station of Yakuoin Temple to the Temple itself is an ultimate tour attraction because it has many maple leaves trees and other types of trees, especially cedar trees. Temple does have cedar Tree project to increase planting cedar trees after evidence indicates that its initially planted cedar trees did survive the hurricane and became the windbreak for the temple and mountain road.
Both Yakuoin Temple and Takao Mountain are popular spots for religious worshippers and non-religious visitors and mountain hikers and climbers. Thus, rail transportations and cable trains/cars to the Takao Mountain can be long waiting in weekends, holidays, and in religious days. To save time for waiting for ticket purchase for cable trains/cars, it is better for visitors to buy discounted packaged tickets for Keio Rail Tickets and Cable Trains/Cars, and visitors can save time for waiting for ticket purchase. However, in weekends and holidays, almost every spot, including toilets, ice cream shops, and temple's service counters, have long lines and require wait time of 20 minutes or longer.
While Temple does not disallow visitors to bring their pets to the Temple, it is probably safer for visitors not to bring their pets to visit the Temple when there are huge crowds of visitors. Pets should not feel pressure for congestion either.

Took cable car up Mt Takao. The cable car is the steepest one in Japan. From the drop off point, we still have to walk to the temple. We passed many trees, monuments, statues, shops, attractions , people before we reach the temple.

Nice hike close to Tokyo about an hour from central, lots of beautiful temples and shrines and feels really good to be walking amongst nature.
Family friendly, you can choose to go up and down by cable car or hike up with many different trails with varying difficulty.
Going in summer can be very challenging due to the heat and humidity even on the easiest track (track 1), and is actually a bit steep. While the walk itself was nice, the view at the end was underwhelming but maybe that was because of the cloudy weather.

Gorgeous! The hike to the top of the mountain was tough for this family but so worth it. We took the ski lift on the way down to rest our legs. It was so worth every step. We had a beautiful view of Tokyo and Mount Fuji. We visited the monkey park. Our boys loved it!

The autumn foliage is lovely to view here. It is pretty accessible too, as there are cable cars and chair lifts to this area. There are plenty of vendors selling festival type foods too~ But it is very busy because of the festival. And if you collect Goshuin, expect to wait in long line. It is peak season, so it is understandable, but it took about an 1 hour and 45 minutes to get the stamp on a weekday. If you do want a stamp, come early~

Nice temple at the top is a small mountain. Pretty peaceful.
Mount Takao, also known as Takaosan, is a 599-meter-tall peak located within an hour of Shinjuku station in Tokyo. It has been a pilgrimage site for over 1,200 years and offers a mix of traditional Japanese culture and natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, a funicular railway, and the opportunity to visit the Yakuo-in temple. The summit provides stunning views of Tokyo and Mount Fuji on clear days.
There is a cable car or ski lift that takes you near the summit. In addition, there is a beautiful, paved path from the cable car station to the summit. The path to the summit is easy for everyone. And of course, you get to enjoy the unpaved mountain trails! Religious facilities create a solemn atmosphere near the summit. With a good selection of restaurants, this is the perfect place for a casual hike up the mountain!

We went for a casual hike to Takao-san. Super easy to get to via the Keio line from Shinjuku station. Make sure to grab the special/limited express train to get to Takaosanguchi station a little faster. After that it's a short (but super crowded) walk, starting at the right of the station, and up to the cable car station at the base of the mountain.
We went up the Inariyama trail which starts to the left of the cable car station entrance. A little steep here and there but a very enjoyable walk up. The summit was very crowded and views were so-so, would advise taking a quick look and then spending more time on the trails. We took the Summit loop (trail 5) around the top and descended via Suspension bridge trail (trail 4), did the Kasumidai loop (trail 2) and then switched to Biwa waterfall (trail 6) for the rest of the way down.
These trails avoid the crowds on trails 1 (Omotesando) and 3 (Katsura forest), and are really enjoyable to walk. Going much earlier in the morning is the best way to avoid crowds but there are certainly ways to minimize it by taking some of the 'harder' or 'steeper' routes which shouldn't be a challenge for most people at an average fitness level. Would recommend outdoor/hiking shoes, sneakers are fine as long as you don't mind them getting dirty.
At the cable car station at the foot of the mountain, there are a lot of Japanese food stalls, worth trying and to support the local economy. With a nice clean park nearby, it's worth enjoying a small bite to eat and a local beer after a nice day out on the trails.

This mountain is great for moderate hiking. There are both safe trails and dangerous trails for adventurous people. The scene at the top of the mountain is picturesque. There are some food stores and drink vending machines along the way so you do not have to worry about those. For those who wanted to use the cable lift here, it gets crowded at times so be prepared to wait.

Only 45min by train from Shinjuku Station, Takao Mountain is a great option for a hike in the nature. I suggest to get to Takaosan-guchi station of Keio Line (there is also JR line, but it is far form the start of the hiking trail). There are different routes to get to the top, but I suggest to take the alternative routes and not the pain, paved one, since is its very crowded and steep. You can get to the top in around 2 hours. I also suggest the sento (hot public bath) at the Takaosan-guchi Station. I also enjoyed the monkey zoo and the Tengu temple. In summertimes, there is also a beer garden but it was way too crowded.

Great place to spend a day in nature, just an hour away from Tokyo. Several different trails to get to the summit. I found trail 6 to be quite pleasant, and easy, with the exception of the last stretch before the summit, which has a lot of steps.
Trail 1 might seem the easiest one, as it’s paved and half the path can be done on the cable car or chair lift. However, the path is quite steep, and in my opinion there is too many people going up and down all the time, which in my opinion, doesn’t allow to experience the beautiful nature of the mountain.

I decided to climb Mount Takao this past weekend. I had brought a backpack with my overnight gear, camera, laptop, snacks, and a couple of bottles of water. My intention was to put everything except the water in a locker at the train station but all of the lockers were taken. I had no choice but to carry my heavy load with me.
You can probably guess what happened. With each ascending step, the backpack felt heavier and heavier. After about an hour, I was sweating profusely and breathing hard. When I stopped to rest and drink some water, I noticed that the lift station for the ropeway was close by.
I felt a bit of shame taking the lift down the mountain but I told myself it was better than potentially coming down in an ambulance.
There’s a nice onsen next to the Keio station. I relaxed there while waiting for my group to finish the climb.

It is one of the best day trips from Tokyo I did!
We got there by train which is easily accessible. We decided for the chair lift up (a cable car is available as well) and walked the remaining way up to the summit. Prices for both are low. It is easy to walk though it might be still exausting, when your body isn't used to much activity. We intended to walk down.
The summit offers such an awesome view of the mountainous nature around and even free view of Fuji-san as long as the weather is good enough. We didn't know about Fuji views and were so overwhelmed by it! What a luck we had.
Way down we choose Trail 6. It seemed to be a nice walk through the woods at first. Then a staircase down the steepest parts and down the dale we reached the beginnings of the small stream that results in Biwa Falls. The trail is not easy even desending when you're no trained person. The trail within the dale leads directly through the water. You'll have to walk through it or have to walk from stone to stone keeping shoes dry. This continues some time and offers an awesome view like going through rainforest. I loved it. Around half the way the trail continues as a small path so walking gets easier. White sneaker won't stay white here.
Totally worth the hike. Restaurants at the starting point offer you food to get your energy levels (re)filled.
Takao-san is more crowded than e.g. Mitake-san, but definitely offers the better view.

A offbeat hike in Tokyo. The journey through the suburbs to Mount Takao is very scening and this is a great spot considering access from the city center. My friend and I embarked on an incredible hiking adventure, starting from the base of the mountain and ascending all the way to its summit. This journey proved to be an absolute gem, undoubtedly one of the most memorable hikes of my life. The vistas along the way were absolutely breathtaking, offering expansive views of the majestic mountain landscape and the sprawling metropolis of Tokyo below.
As we reached the pinnacle, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a fantastic restaurant perched at the summit. It was an unexpected treat that added a touch of luxury to our outdoor escapade. On the descent, we meandered through a myriad of enchanting shrines, each one a testament to Tokyo's rich cultural heritage.
I wholeheartedly recommend this hike to anyone visiting Tokyo. It's a must-do experience that combines natural beauty, cultural exploration, and a delightful culinary surprise at the mountain's zenith.

Of course don‘t go there while the weather is cloudy. Then you can‘t see Mt. Fuji. The way up itself is not very entertaining.

First half of trail 1 is basically hiking up extreme slopes. Gets more scenic after reaching the halfway point. Grab a beer at the top to reward yourself! Nice getaway from the busy Tokyo city center

Very scenic hike. I took trail 6 up and it gets a bit challenging near the top. Then walk down trail 1 to pass through the temples and buy a souvenir. Would definitely come again in warmer weather to hike the other trails.

One of the most scenic climbs in Tokyo. We went on a weekday and it was not as busy as advertised. Highly recommend going early in the morning as you and nature will be the only ones there.
Get to the top to enjoy the views of Mt Fuji on a clear day and take the open chair lift down for a unique and picturesque experience.

A offbeat hike in Tokyo. The journey through the suburbs to Mount Takao is very scening and this is a great spot considering access from the city center. There are a lot of shrines and various trails with the encompassing views. The access to the trails are via cable car or open chair, the open chair being more enthralling and adrenaline rushing.

Trail 1 is fancy for all ages. There are lots of attractions, foods and snacks on the trail. Trail 6 is a bit dangerous. Only recommend to with someone who has experience (not need profession).

Mount Takao, used as a sacred site for over 1000 years, is 599 meters tall and especially popular among couples, families, and the elderly. For those who want to shorten the journey, there is a cable car available. It is located about an hour away by train from Shinjuku Station. Along the path to the summit, there is a Buddhist temple and numerous food and rest areas. If you take the Keiō Line Semi Special Express from Shinjuku to Takaosanguchi, you can reach Takaosanguchi station directly without transferring at Kitano.

A really enjoyable walk, the chair lift is also a good time if you don't want to walk the whole way.
Very enjoyable in winter and a nice get away from the very noisy and busy city.
On a nice day you can even see Fuji!

Fantastic view at the top and quite the experience to get there. Easy hike, recommend for anyone with a love for the outdoors, plus you get to see My. Fuji at the top ;)

Great day trip from Tokyo. Around 2 hours each way from Yokohama & back.
Taking Trail 1 takes between 90mins to 2 hours depending on athleticism.
Final view of My Fuji at the summit well worth the hike. Best time of the year to go is Winter where the weather likely allows for Mt Fuji to be visible.
Other trails can be more difficult as the paths would not be paved
AdriiW1355 — Google review
Enjoyable, family friendly, paved road availablity hiking road but not to easily underestimated due to its length.
🚶♂️ walking distance from end of chair lift to top of Mt. Takao around 4 KM one way (included stair).
🍲 There are many stall selling hot meal and drinks.
💴 Payment is only for chair lift or train. Return price is JPY900.
🗻 Mt Fuji view is at the top viewing deck, at early stage you got Tokyo City view.
Sakuragi Shrine is a religious destination surrounded by woodland, featuring several shrines and cherry blossom festivities during springtime. The main shrine boasts a large Torii gate and there are smaller shrines scattered throughout the natural wooded area. Visitors can purchase Omamori and other items, as well as return their old ones. Although English is not commonly spoken, the staff are helpful even with limited Japanese language skills. It's important to research proper etiquette before visiting for the first time.
Beautiful and big shrine. A lot of people visit here. They give yot beautiful stamps of shrine. Moreover they have shrines for the toilets!

I should preface this review by saying I went in early April, when the Sakura were still in bloom (though I think just past Tokyo’s peak this year). With that out of the way, this is one of my favorite shrines. If you’re into shrines and temples, I feel like it might even be worth the trip from Tokyo, but you probably would have to be quite the shrine otaku. If you happen to be in the area, you absolutely should go.
The goshuin are gorgeous and their goshuin book and pouch for the book are so pretty, among the prettiest I’ve seen. Even the parking lot is one of the prettiest parking lots I’ve ever seen.

Quite a large shrine with an impressively large Torii. There are a number of smaller shrines located in a pleasant natural wooded area outside the main shrine. The shrine sells a variety of Omamori and other items and of course you can return your old Omamori too. The staff were very helpful even with basic Japanese language skills I got on fine, English is not really spoken. If you are visiting the shrine for the first time please take the time to and look up the correct etiquette on the Internet. There is a large car park and bicycle park and the shrine has good toilet and vending machine facilities for drinks etc.
Sayama Inariyama Prefectural Park, formerly a part of Johnson military base and now given back to Japan, offers a tranquil atmosphere with its jogging circuit, barbecue area and seasonal tulips and cherry blossoms. Despite not being as large as one would expect for a national park, it is an ideal location for a leisurely walk or picnic. The park is particularly beautiful during cherry blossom season when they hold festivals with food vans available. Free parking is also available on site.

There are also sunflowers with cool sunflowers that will make you forget the dreary heat.
On the other hand, there is also a vivid red cockscomb that is perfect for summer images.

The park boasts an impressive kids' zoo and botanical garden, as well as sports facilities, fishing spots and camping areas. Nice place for the kids, but could use a lot of refurbishment...especially the animal areas. Really run-down, weedy in some places. Admission is very reasonable, and the setting is nice. Nearest station would be Saiyama-shi, on the Seibu Shinjuku Line...from there, you should take a bus. Didn't see any place to eat, unless you bring a lunch. Found this place by chance from an ad while I was in Tokyo in April. It turns out to be my most precious memory during my trip. It's easy to get there from Oshiage (skytree) Station. About and 1.5 (?) ride.
I went on a week day and it was a few days before their cherry blossom festival ends. So not much people. Although there was not much cherry blossom left, the canola blossom field are just so beautiful! If there was sakura, you'll get that stunning pink and yellow flower combination. (Come around end or middle of march)

But you need to walk a little far if go to there by bus 😓

It's a blessing that even just the toilets are spread out.
Best of all, it minimizes travel within the parking lot, reducing the likelihood of accidents involving people and cars. When people get off the train, their movements become disorganized, and the number of people is definitely greater than the number of vehicles.
However, I believe that those who planned it had a difficult time encountering resistance, such as increased construction costs and the unpredictability of people's movements.
thank you.

The farm offers strawberry picking with three main varieties: Skyberry, the latest kind in Tochigi known for its large fruit; Tochiotome, prized for its shiny sweetness; and Tochihine, a rare and exceptionally soft and juicy variety. Visitors can enjoy a fun experience of picking and eating strawberries within a 40-minute time frame.

They had many instagrammable photo areas and for some reason another photo theme was Winnie the Pooh and they had many areas set up for photos.
As with all premium outlets in Japan it's nothing compared to prices of outlets in North America. It's a lot smaller than the outlet in Gotemba or Karuizawa... But it's much more accessible because it's not too big and it's far less crowded which makes it all more pleasant.
I think outlet malls are a little bit cheaper this year maybe due to Corona and sluggish moving inventory. Most shops had additional 20 to 30% on top of the already reduced prices.
On a hot summer day it's really not recommended because there's not much refuge from the humidity and heat. It's a very dog friendly place and many owners had brought their pets.

Forest Adventure Park Ohira was one of the highlights to my trip to Japan. I went to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto and it was very disappointing and highly overrated. Come here! The bamboo here is thick and you actually get to climb up trees to see the bamboo and touch it. They do thin out the bamboo where you actually walk and need to zipline. And... you get to zipline and do a whole bunch of fun challenging exercises. Make sure you bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty or possibly ripped. The staff said this is the only adventure park out of the 25 in Japan that has bamboo. Many parts of the course had English instructions. There are restrooms, small lockers and areas to have a bbq. The course took about 1.5 hrs and it was super fun! My wife and I came on a Monday and we were the only customers. We just took our time. Cost was 3500 Yen per adult and 2500 Yen for under 18 years old.
The staff here is wonderful and very safety conscious. They have very limited English speaking skills but they will work with you. We had a good conversation with them after we finished our course.
You can get here by either the Shin-Ohirashita Station (Private -Tobu Nikko Line) or Ohirashita Station (JR - Ryomo Line). We walked from the Shin-Ohirashita Station and it took 45 minutes. It was pretty neat to see the grape vines and country houses. Be careful as you walk the narrow roads. You can also take a taxi which can cost 1450-2000 Yen depending on which station you depart. You'll see their signs as you progress up the hill. They have plenty of parking too. I hope more people come here, it is really worth the trip and then you can take the Ryomo Line to Ashikaga Flower Park on the same day.
You can make online reservations to any of their parks throughout Japan online. You don't have to make reservations but they told me they get booked on the weekends. As many as 200 people will come on a Saturday or Sunday. Make sure you arrive early as they start on time. Enjoy!

We went there in January, still quite warm and very few other customers. Which is lucky since the heights and sometimes scary passages can make kids (and grownups) take it slow. The safety instructions are quite throrough and well conducted. The instructors are well trained, concerned and polite.
Walking with the zipline is quite a bit of excercise but the sliding is the reward, although you have to land carefully.
The parking can be a bit tricky as there are several parking lots, and the entrance can be very hard to find. And it is slighly expensive, but on the whole worth it.

(Translated by Google) August 11, 2023 (Friday), a national holiday on Mountain Day, I suddenly had an idea and made a phone reservation on the day at 12:30. I arrived after 12:00 and went straight to the reception desk, and it cost 3,800 yen per person.Pet bottle holders were available for free in Chichibu, but in Ohira they cost 100 yen, so if you have your own, I think it would be better to bring them. After watching the advance video and experiencing the experience, it was time to start the adventure course. There is also an easier canopy course, so choose your favorite course. Since I have experience in Chichibu, it went smoothly and was thrilling, as well as having fun elements such as the zipline and skateboarding that are not available in Chichibu. Since it was that time of year, the mosquitoes were really bad, so it's a good idea to bring bug spray. Also, it is essential that you don't drink water, as you will dehydrate yourself, but the plastic bottle holder can often get caught on nets and other objects, so we recommend that you proceed without haste. It is easier to cross the suspension rings using a zipline method. Well, even a 51-year-old man who weighs 85 kg can clear it, so you can enjoy it. There is also a children's corner and barbecue facilities, so the whole family can enjoy it. The summer heat will make you sweat, but as you head south on the Budou Kaido road, there is a facility called Yurakukan on the right where you can take a bath for as cheap as 310 yen for adults.

Ohirasan Shrine is a stunning Shinto complex situated on the mountainside. It comprises several shrines and a noteworthy touching stone, alongside well-marked hiking trails leading to the mountain top. The shrine's aesthetic beauty is remarkable and visitors can also relish panoramic views of Mount Fuji from the view deck when weather conditions allow. Alongside souvenir shops offering mochi, candies or traditional tengu masks, Ohirasan Shrine doesn't usually draw crowds despite being an impressive sight worth visiting.
The shrine is aesthetically beautiful and the mountain view is great. On the foot step of the mountain, you'll see a different shops sellings mochi and candies, others may find some shop selling kitsune or tengu mask. Their is also a view deck seeing the white top of Mt. Fuji; when the weather is clear and and not cloudy, you can also see some elderly folks doind some walks and they're great to talk with.

Hilltop shrine with a sacred rock. This very old shrine was established in the early Heian Period (794 to 1185) by priest Jikaku Daishi. It is the home of 42 gods and goddesses. You can drive to the top of the shrine where a free parking lot is located and a short walk to the shrine OR you can enjoy a leisurely long hike up using the stairs. The stairs are lined with hydrangeas which were not in bloom yet as of May 27th. The shrine is popular in the region with local people who come to pray for the health of their family members.

Peaceful spiritual spot inside nature on top of a hill
Shinkyō Bridge, a striking black-and-red bridge surrounded by dense forests known for their vibrant fall foliage, is widely regarded as one of Japan's top three bridges. It sits in a picturesque location with thick forests flanking the Daiya River below. Serving as an entrance to Nikko's shrines and temples, the bridge has a rich history dating back to feudal times when only the Shogun was permitted to cross it.
In Nikki there are a huge amount of sights and temples to see. Walk back Don and you will pass by the bridge that you can photograph from all directions. The picture perfect location with its bright red color against the lush green forest with the river running below and fish jumping out of the water while hunting.
Donatella Polizzi — Google review
Famous bridge. They charge you ¥300 to walk on it. You don't need to do that, you can get nice shots from the street.
📣tip: walk up the hill to kanaya hotel. On the right of the main building there is a garden and tiny path with a sign. Walk down the stairs, it's free and you don't need to be a guest. When you walk down you'll get all the way to the rivers edge where you'll get a great unique shot of the bridge.
Kevin Kwok — Google review
Since you're paying 300¥ for this, I expected a better restoration/maintenance over the bridge. There were unpainted zones, and a wooden floor over the sidewalk so it was impossible to had an experience as it was on the past. The shrine is just crossing the street but the fence is closed on the bridge side, so you have to make a U turn, to the entrance and then cross to the shrine.
Matias Sebastian Romero — Google review
One of the attraction spot in Nikko. Easily accessible by Bus using 2days Nikko pass.
Its has entry fee of 300¥ at the time but you cannot cross the bridge. Its only for tour and photo-shot. You can take pictures from outside and road too, so need to enter if you don’t have any historical values to Bridge. I think, it looks great in Autumn.
Rahul Bam — Google review
Very beautiful bridge, but also good enough to see from the bridge next to it. It's still nice to walk over the third most beautiful bridge in Japan

The bridge and surrounding red leaf landscape are beautiful in autumn. There are so many tourists that it is difficult to take commemorative photos.
Phung Hoang Phi — Google review
Legend says that when the first head priest asked the mountain deities for a way to cross the Daiya river, two snakes appeared and transformed into the crimson bridge we see today.
There is an entrance fee if you want to walk and cross over on the bridge. It should be a great photospot if you are attired with props and all. Otherwise, taking a photograph from the modern bridge nearby will justify its beauty just as much. Admission closes at 3pm if I recall correctly.
Alvin Li — Google review
It was very beautiful and rests over the leanest running water I’ve ever seen…. I so wish we could walk all the ay to the sides of the bridge, but I understand for protective reasons why you walk on this mat type thing, it because of the barriers I couldn’t get the beautiful picture I wanted of this beautiful bridge. It was truly a beauty in the middle of this highway looking road.
NervousBunnyGaming — Google review
A quick photo spot if you are in Nikko. Not worth it to pay to cross the bridge as taking it by the street is so much nicer. There is no parking nearby so you have to park else where.
Celestine — Google review
Famous spot for most tourist who visit Nikko before they went up to enjoy the rest of attractions. Take a moment to enjoy the view at the bridge and encapsulate it in your moments at Nikko. This Iconic bridge remains well maintained and the vicinity was clean. I trust you will enjoy the view even more when it comes to autumn soon.
Reiko H — Google review
Small bridge with a mesmerizing view behind. It is the first station before heading up the stairs to see the shrines and temples or keep on walking down the road to the Kanmangafuchi Abyss.
Walking on the bridge requires a ticket, 300 yen, which is sold at the adjacent ticket booth .
Ilan Kader — Google review
When I first saw this bridge in person last fall, I was inside a bus. On April 9, 2024, my wife drove near it and asked me to capture an image of it. We have seen many red-painted bridges and this one was still so close but so far away from us.

Well it may seem strange but of all the sights of Japan this one has left a lasting impression. So small but just so beautiful as we walked from Joshuya Ryokan to the temples. The Bridge over the Daiya River is a sacred and is designated as a National Treasure of Japan. The bridge spans the Daiya River and connects the Futarasan Shrine with the Toshogu Shrine. It was originally built in the 8th century, but was destroyed by a flood in the 17th century. It was rebuilt in 1636 and has been preserved in its current form ever since. T
Ross Daniels — Google review
The bridge is beautifull to see and we understand they make you pay to civer maintenance. However it’s definetly not worth paying 300 yen to walk the bridge for some minutes. What more the pictures are best from the main bridge so you don’t really need to pay.
Carla Casino Vivas — Google review
Visited late Nov, the bridge is beautiful from the outside. Did not pay to enter the bridge. Continued the walk up to the Toshogu Shrine which was littered with beautiful autumn colours.
I find the least tiring way is to take the bus to Shinkyo bridge then visit the temples and walk downhill back to Nikko Station.

Kamihatsuishimachi, Nikko, Tochigi 321-1401, Japan
Rin’nōji Hōmotsuden treasure house is a Buddhist temple complex that dates back to 766 CE and features a museum and classical Edo-era landscape garden. It's part of the Nikko World Heritage Full-Day Tour, where visitors can explore the majestic Tamozawa Imperial Villa, see the three golden Buddhas at Rinnoji Temple, and visit Kirifuri Falls. The temple is also known for its Gohanshiki ceremony.
The first temple you see when you enter the shrine complex. It is a very peaceful place in the morning silence before all the buses filled with tourists arrive. There is in front of it a small museum and a beautiful Japanese garden both worth seeing for a fee.
Hugo Pedro-Martins — Google review
I didn't get to enter, no time. Very well maintained. The colors really stand out. If you're going to visit the Nikko shrine compound area, better go early. The place is always packed with both locals and tourists. There's a tree outside Rennoji that they say has never bloomed in 400 (or was it 200) years. Tickets for the Toshogu shrine and museum complex does not cover the museum at the foot of the Rennoji house. If we had time, it would've been nice to stay for an hour or so, but the train and shinkansen ride back to Tokyo takes a while. The World Heritage Bus route goes around the entire Grand Shrine complex, down to the Nikko train station.
Mary Paz Iris Villanueva — Google review
The treasure house is located opposite the main hall of the Rinnoji Temple. You need to pay an entrance fee. We decided to buy combined tickets, which include the main hall, the treasure house&garden, and the Taiyuin Mausoleum. It is a bit cheaper than buying them separately. Photography is not allowed inside the house. There are several antique artworks related to Buddhism and the Tokugawa era displayed inside. The portraits of all the shoguns in the Tokugawa family are exhibited there. It is nice to sit quietly and see those portraits, imagining their feelings and responsibilities as shoguns in their time.
Don't miss the garden located behind the house. The garden is small but beautiful, with a pleasant landscape, good design, and it's not too crowded. It must be a wonderful place during autumn when color of leaves change..

The temple is located at the base of Mt. Nantai and the natural surroundings add to the serene atmosphere of the place.
The main hall of the temple houses a large wooden statue of the Yakushi Nyorai, which is the temple's main object of worship. The temple also features several other buildings such as the Sanbutsudo Hall and the Futarasan Shrine, which are both beautiful and worth visiting. The architecture of the buildings is amazing and the intricate carvings and paintings on the walls and ceilings are truly breathtaking.

There is a petit japanese garden just in front and its beatiful. The surroundings are also really enjoyable but in comparison the insides of this temple are not as interesting visually or as an expirience. When you go to the other temples first they offer you the ticket of this particular temple as a set and is not expensive, but except that you have some knollege about budism it probably won't be as interesting.

Love Rin-no-ji, loved Nikko. Everything in this whole Nikko complex it feels like it was froze in time and is permanently in the Edo era. The feeling of peace and serenity you get in Nikko is probably unique. Despite the crowds and there were plenty you can connect and be one there.

Originally, it was nothing more than the main gate leading to the shrine, but at Nikko Toshogu, it is the first building that comes to mind. Of course, every nook and cranny of the building is covered with paintings and carvings. In addition, the restoration was just completed (visited on April 24, 2023), and the glamor of the time of its foundation was conspicuous. Originally, I would like to take my time to lick every corner and look at it, but the problem is that it is difficult to calm down and appreciate it due to the number of tourists rushing in like a tide. If you want to take a closer look, you should visit early in the morning on weekdays.

It is a wonderful thing that attracts people all over the world.
In addition, the detailed carvings of hermits, old men, Karako, children, etc., based on Chinese legends and historical events, are heartwarming and wonderful.
It really is a building that makes you want to sit in a chair and look at it all day long.
I want it to be a symbol of the eternal peace that Ieyasu aimed for, and to be the soul of the Japanese people forever.
In that sense, I think it was good that it was designated as a “World Cultural Heritage”.
My memory when I was young was that I just saw it for some reason, but this time, I felt like I was in a hurry to watch it, even though I did my best.
But this time, the more evolved "convenience of civilization" gave me the joy of enjoying it at home.

Nikko Toshogu is a magnificent 17th-century shrine complex in Nikko, Japan, dedicated to the first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. The temple's opulent and colorful buildings are adorned with intricate carvings, creating a palace-like courtyard that feels like another world. It has great trails to hike on sunny days. So many stores and restaurants on the way too where you could get refreshments or you may use the washrooms if you needed. Keep in mind as usual, there are no garbage bins in japan so you would have to carry your litter with you until you get to the station or home.
I recommend having sunblock with you because it's quite an exposed area and you need that protection.

This was just lovely after we passed the historic red bridge and began our exploration with Tosho-gu Shrine. It is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, who ruled Japan from 1603 to 1868. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was built in 1636. I try to imagine who was here a few hundred years ago.

The shrine entrance is about 1300 yens, I don't remember clearly.

Even during bad weather it was a breathtaking sight. It really feels like you’re entering a different world, especially with all the stairs. The price was very reasonable and even without the audio guide there is a lot of information presented in English.

This is the most famous temple at Nikko and rightly so, for it is a treasure trove of lacquer work, wood carving and traditional architectural styles. There are a great variety of structures at the site, ranging from tombs to stables and ornately decorated gateways. The most beautiful temples I’ve visited in Japan so far. The protection of these buildings is immaculate and they weren’t burnt down in some fire and rebuilt in the 1900’s they are actually four hundred years old and are just taken care of and repainted very well. I could feel the history breathing in and out of this place. Tokugawa’s treasures were well kept and I just can’t describe in clear words how happy that I, a history lover, was to to be able to touch and be so close to something so old and well taken care of for the public. I think Tokugawa would be proud at how many people love and respect his family’s heirlooms and resting places.

Definitely worth the entry fee and trouble getting here. Highly recommended to visit here if you're staying in Tokyo. This is the best temple you can see from Tokyo without going half way across the country. Origin of the three wise monkeys, has a lovely pagoda. You can pay with an IC card. Very intricate carvings and painting in a fantastic gold and black color scheme. There are details everywhere you look. There is a photoservice that also takes a picture with your phone for free. The inner part can only be entered without shoes and no pictures can be taken inside the building. The steep stone steps to the northern part of the temple become extremely slippery when wet.

You can purchase the entrance ticket on the spot. I would recommend visiting this temple. It covers a wide area and has a lot of architecture to look at. It can be a bit challenging to walk around, especially when the ground is wet, so do be careful. Temple closes on time, so don't be late.

The temple complex comprises several temple areas, each of which requires a separate entrance fee. Nikkō Tōshogū is the most popular, the most expensive, and the largest. Tickets must be purchased from a machine, which accepts cash, Suica card, and credit card. All other temple areas have cashiers to handle ticket sales.
We spent approximately two hours visiting three paid areas. My favorite was Nikkō Tōshogū, followed by Taiyu-in Temple and Nikko Futarasan jinja Haiden.
The ticket to Nikkō Tōshogū included a second ticket for entry to a building. They gather you into a group, as the guides explain the exhibits in Japanese only. At the end, the guide clapping two wooden sticks together to produce a surprisingly loud but crisp echo within the building, something about sending wishes to the dragon in the sky. We had almost forgotten about the second ticket until we heard the pleasant sound and followed it to the building.
At the Taiyu-in Temple, visitors can purchase a ticket for admission to the temple only, or a combination ticket that also includes admission to the Nikkozan Rin’nōji Temple, which was not particularly interesting. The Taiyu-in temple was intricate and worth the visit.
We drove to the temple and paid 700 yen to park our car in one of the 3-4 parking lots. You can take a bus from town for 300 yen one way per person.
The map may give the impression that the temples are a considerable distance apart, but in reality they are quite close. Walking between them did not take a long time, but visiting the interior of each building took up the majority of our time.
This is truly a beautiful UNESCO site.
