Mizusawa-dera Temple (also known as Mizusawa Kannon) is a stunning Buddhist temple complex situated in a serene natural landscape. The architecture features traditional multi-tiered sanctuaries that are eye-catching and beautiful. It includes a mountain hike behind the temples and shrine that leads through a peaceful forest. The location is also popular for biking, but it can be challenging due to often steep hills, spanning about 6 km.
The principal image of Mizusawa Kannon (Mizusawa-dera) is the Kannon Bodhisattva who is believed to have saved Princess Ikaho, the third daughter of the local governor, from difficult situations many times. It has a history of over 1300 years, and it is said that offering incense will bring good luck in health, and ringing the bell will bring good fortune in terms of money😊😊

Very serene temple especially on a misty rainy day.
Nonetheless, i had a good time here, it is good to get out of the city and spend time with yourself! Quite a lot of different little subtemples are in here, made fot a nice visit to see each one.

This place is freakin awesome! So many cool aspects of traditional Japanese culture here. And tons of beautiful nature, including a mountain hike behind the temples and shrine that go through a very serene forest.
A word to the wise, though: If you are going to ride a bike up there, you can do it but it's definitely a challenge. About 6 km up often steep hills.

Nozori Lake is a nice place to visit if you are into hiking. There’s a course that you can take around the lake that is 8km and many other trails that venture elsewhere. There appear to be 2 spots on opposite ends of the lake that offer food and beverages. Easy access and parking. Lots of birch trees up there, too. Very scenic and about 6-8C cooler in the summer than most of the cities. I think you can fish there , too (if that’s your thing).

As for the scenery, you won't get a good view unless you climb Nozori Pass or Mt. Hachiken, and if you go on the lake loop course, it takes a long time in one day, and the scenery is not very good because it is a forested area.
Also, if you are using public transportation, the first bus leaves from the station at around 10am and arrives at Nozori Pass at 12pm, so you won't have much time to go around.

No matter how many times you visit, it is a place that captivates your heart with its beautiful scenery. There are many sights to see, such as the beautiful lakeside, the blooming lily pads and dicentra, and the panoramic view of the mountains from Mt. Hachizen. It is located deep in the mountains almost on the border between Gunma and Niigata prefectures, and the Nozori Dam that creates the lake is a dam that faces the Niigata side, which is rare on the Gunma side, and the famous Akiyama-go is downstream. Judging from the national highway number, it seems that the road to Akiyama-go was planned, but in reality, there is no road and the section is closed, so if you want to go there, it will be a very long detour.
There are well-maintained hiking trails and mountain trails surrounding the lake, as well as a rest area that doubles as a campsite and restaurant. If you have a certain amount of physical strength, you can easily climb Mt. Hachigen, which is about 2 km one way, without any particular difficulty. If the weather is good, you can see the spectacular views and alpine plants, so it is recommended.
Although it is a dam lake, you can easily walk to the water's edge, and if you go in early spring, depending on the temperature, it may be frozen and you can even walk on the lake.

Not too touristy, 1,300 year old campus of shrines curved out on the side of mountains in Gunma Prefecture. Very somber, impressive buildings - not because they are foiled in gold or they have the record ranking size, but because they have quietly endured the time, and still existing. When I went there, it was the 2nd day of the New Year, and yet still, not too many people were there, daring the bitter cold air of the cedar woods and frozen water falls. I live in western NY, so I know cold - this place carried it's own winter bitter! True to the essence of Shintoism, even the smallest and the most eroded structures are still kept, tendered and their dieties are well respected. A little Cha-Ya (tea house) half way up the lane that's leading up to the main shrine, reminded me of how things were perhaps 1,000 years ago, treating those who have traveled days or weeks, or even month to get there, on foot. ( I'm pretty fit BUT their official "15 minutes to the top shrine" was a bit of a stretch - a handful of really old ladies in their 80- 90 something were walking with a cane, taking rest every few steps up a very steep stone starts) This place is famous for the plums. Their Plum Cake (Ume Manju) was very tasty, with a whole cooked plum inside, wrapped inside of not too sweet red bean paste.
Mohri Hime — Google review
A very good place to visit for those who are looking for a solemn place to pray. It's my second time to visit this Shrine and it seems the construction is not yet finished so I can't rate it 5 stars. From Takasaki Station, we ride a bus and stop on the foot of the Shrine. When we arrived, there are remains of snow from the last day. It took us 15minutes to reach the Shrine since we enjoyed the scenery Haruna Shrine offers. The road is cemented, there are few sloppy stairs but it's not that hard to ascend. I've seen a shop where you can buy foods in case you've got a hungry stomach. For those who have cars, there is parking near the entrance of of the Shrine.

Konnyaku Park is a factory that produces food items such as jelly and noodles using the konjac plant. The park offers tours and tastings, allowing visitors to learn about the production process and sample the delicious products. Konnyaku, a jelly-like yam cake with a unique texture, is made from locally-grown konnyaku yams and high-quality water from Akikawa River in the Tama area.

The Gunma area is where they grow the most of the roots in Japan that are turned into konyakku, a slightly tasteless paste which can be shaped into a lot of forms. It is very popular because it essentially has zero calories.
But it is extremely popular and the lines can be murder on public holidays. We got there at 9 which is opening time, and had to stand in line 2.5 hours for the buffet.
The big draw is the free buffet of konyakku products, but there is also a gift shop and you can visit the factory.
Personal recommendation: try the liver konyakku and the fruits jellies.

This is an interesting place to visit if you’re in the area. I’m not a big konnyaku fan, but it’s completely free to tour the factory and partake of the buffet.
My friend and I visited on a Saturday so the factory was out of action, but you could still walk around the tour area and see the machinery and read the information.
The buffet was interesting if not entirely to my tastes. Suffice it to say that the desserts selection was better than the savoury.
There’s a big store area with all conceivable types of konnyaku product available to buy. There is also a convenience store on site and a small supermarket. There are free foot baths too, but you’ll need your own towel.

The Tomioka Silk Mill, a World Heritage Site located in Japan, was constructed during the late 1800s and serves as a silk spinning factory. Visitors can enjoy guided tours or audio tours of the site along with purchasing souvenirs from its gift shop. The location is rich with historical remains but transportation to it may prove difficult unless you have access to a car.
UNESCO World Heritage site and National Treasure.
Silk mill where proceeded Meiji Era modernization of my country🇯🇵 Joining Guide tour was very efficient to learn history and Women's social advancement but its only for Japanese

Attraction: Nice place to visit on your way to your destination. Many buildings are closed, so you can only see them from the outside. There are two rather large buildings that you can walk through one has a second story with a few exhibits you can read about. There's not that much walking since the museum is quite small.
Fees: We paid $1,000 yen per person, but there are discounted rates for children.
Food: There are several places for small snacks and light meals outside of the museum. We didn't try any of them and so can't recommend.
Parking: There's no parking specific to the museum but there are small parking lots spread around town at the entry. Going rate is $500 yen for a full day.

Tomioka Silk Mill, recently approved as World Cultural Heritage. This is No.05 venue I wouldn't tell other people. I definitely don't recommend other people to bring guests for the time being until the refurbishing ends in next Spring/Summer.
The moment I visited it was under refurbishing and main interior aspects were hidden somewhere instead photos and panels were exhibited.
Despite under construction they charge visitors NORMAL admission fee JYen 1,000 plus extra charge of JYen 200 for you to see actual construction. NO way. It should be opposite as the appearance value of the venue is less than so expected as World Cultural Heritage(WCH).

We dropped by Tomioka silk mill after camping just for a fun. It was amazing experience to see the process of making silk and historical house constructed before the war. Especially we are interested in the lifestyle of staff and trainers. We could see the furniture and documents. Highly recommend.

It is a unique place and worthy to visit with children. you can get good knowledge about the whole process of silk production by silkworms. before 150 years ago, the technology they had was amazing.

One of the world Heritage Sites of Japan.
Full of its historical remains.
Access is really inconvenient, however if you have a car its easy.
The walking inside the Silk mill feels like you are living at 18th century.
It really feels that you time travel and went back to 18th.

Tomioka Silk Mill dates from 1872 and is one of the earliest extant examples of an industrialised mill or factory from Japan. It stopped producing silk reels in 1987 after 115 years and has now become a museum showcasing Japan’s industrial heritage. It features detailed and informative displays about the history of the site and the silk making process. Entrance costs 1000 yen. The town is best visited from the nearby city of Takasaki.

If you take the Jyoshin Electric Railway from Takasaki, the return fare from Takasaki Station to Jyoshu-Tomioka Station costs 1,620 yen and an entrance ticket to Tomioka Silk Mill costs 1,000 yen, for a total of 2,620 yen. If you buy a discounted return ticket to visit Tomioka Silk Mill at Takasaki Station, the price is 420 yen cheaper at 2,200 yen. If you wish to purchase a special commemorative ticket, please make sure to buy it at the ticket office, not from a ticket machine.
The Gunma Safari Park is an animal park that offers guided bus tours to see various animals such as big cats, giraffes, and elephants. For a more personal experience, it is recommended to drive through the designated area where visitors can get up close with the animals. The park also features a petting zoo with birds and rabbits that visitors are allowed to touch while following safety rules. Additional activities include feeding bengals and holding hamsters.
Fantastic experience! Definitely a must see. It’s wonderful to see animals in large enclosures. The whole family really enjoyed the drive through safari.

We went there with our own car. The area with the farm animals it was nice. Animals seem overall healthy but some animals specially the cheetah, lions and other wild cats are sharing a very small space and looked quite stressed with people coming close. The loud pop music played in the park was quite annoying. They should play some nature sounds or just let the animals have some peace.

It is a good place to spend time with family. You can use your own car or use safari car or safari bus. There is ¥500 fee to enter the park with your own car. We ride our own car for safari. It took ¥2700/person + ¥500 for rental navigation tab in english. It was good to see animals roaming without any bars. Driving through the pride of Lions was thrilling experience. In the middle of safari, you can park and take a walk in “walking safari zone” where they have caged animals including both herbivores and carnivores.

Recommend to go by personal car and enjoy this zoo by drive in the area where is settled for drive through. You can get close with all animals in that area. Very excited when arrive at tigers and lions zone. Please follow the rule for your safety. The zoo is very wide area. There are variety of animals. There is walking zone too. The rabbit cage also fun because the zoo allow you to touch the rabbits but you have to run and catch them. Please careful that the rabbits may bite you.
And the others activity you can do here such as feeding bengal, hold hamsters.

Great experience! We could go around in our car and they gave us a tablet audio guide. A lot of the animals come close to the car, and you have to stop for animals all over the road which was fun. About halfway, we stopped and could go around a walking safari which was fun. Lots of animals to see and we could touch and feed some. Plenty of toilet facilities, a gift shop, and a small amusement park which was fun for the adults and the kids. A great stopover on the way to other sights in Gunma. We spent two hours here but didn’t know about the amusement park in advance, so we probably could have spent a bit more time there. Recommended!

It seems like a very average type of safari park. It has some animals but it's not wild. It's good for children but not for adults.
Located on the Shiraito Highland Way in Karuizawa, the falls are a delightfully large, arched waterfall that offers stunning views in multiple seasons. A popular spot for sightseeing, visitors can enjoy hiking to see the falls from different angles.
Worth the bus ride from karuizawa station there, which runs quite infrequently. It's along a windy road uphill, so even without snow it would not be easy to get there walking or cycling.
The falls is actually only about 3 to 4 meter tall, but nonetheless quite beautiful, especially when covered in snow. Short 5 min walk, though a bit slippery, from bus stop to the falls, so 30 to 45 min is sufficient for a visit. Small shop at the bus stop for drinks, washroom, souvenir whilst waiting for return bus.
Norris C — Google review
The path leading up to the falls is well-maintained and easy to walk. A stream runs down from the main waterfall and along the side of the trail, making for a lovely walk to the main waterfall. The dirt track is slightly uphill, so recent rains can make it slippery. For this reason, I recommend wearing good walking shoes. The falls are beautiful and accessible year round. The fee is ¥500 to enter for parking.

You can come here by paying a toll road of 500 yen. At first I was dissatisfied with it, but when I think about it as a parking lot fee, I guess I can understand it. There was quite a parking space. Since Shiraito is called Shiraito, I imagined a large waterfall falling beautifully, but when I arrived, I was surprised. It was a waterfall with spring water leaking from the middle of the ground. I had never seen a waterfall like this before, so I was glad to see it. The waterfall is wide and it must be a very cool place in the summer. I think it's a waterfall worth seeing. However, I thought that a name like ``Mikasa no Yutaki'' would be more appropriate than ``Shiraito Falls''. 2024.4.25

What a beautiful, refreshing spot!
No actual river flows into the Falls. The source of water is the rain that falls on Mount Asama, which takes about 6 years to come out. Regardless of the season, there’s always a constant flow of water.
We visited in mid-July during the weekend, and it was a bit crowded. If you are driving, please note there’s a 500 yen toll, but parking is free.

It is up a private mountain road from Karuizawa. Tolls are chargeable and the road isn’t well maintained.
But parking is free. If you drive you can stop to take some pics along the way.
Alternatively lines 1, 2 and 8 reach there from the main station. The ride is about 20 mins and cost 720 yen.
Falls are up a short uphill walk.
There are kiosks selling warm food and a WC near the parking lot to the falls.

Shiraito Waterfall: It took approximately 36 minutes by bus from Karuizawa station, followed by a brief 2-minute walk, to reach the waterfall. I visited on December 31st. I recommend visiting during the fall season to witness the vibrant colors as a backdrop or in late winter when the waterfall is adorned with snow. However, for a December visit, I found the extended travel time for this particular view to be less satisfying.

Even in winter it’s worth visiting! It takes around 5-10 minutes to get to the waterfall from the car park and you can experience the water being warm despite the cold weather due to volcanic activity in this area 😱 If you’re going there by car on a snowy day, be careful because the road can get very slippery!

The Old Karuizawa Ginza Street is a charming shopping area in the center of Karuizawa that's full of restaurants, cafes, and shops selling local culinary or craft specialties. It's well-represented by this lovely shopping area known as Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza Street, which is a popular destination for tourists every year.

Lots of shops to see and lots of little streets to walk down, but since we went during winter (mid Feb), many of the shops were closed. Most of the shops here also open only 11am onwards, so try not to visit too early if not you'd have nothing to do.
Perhaps this street (or area) is more of a summery street for visiting! I saw bike rental areas nearer to Prince Shopping Centre side, and I assume it's because there's actually a lot to see in this side of Karuizawa! For winter, maybe not as much.
Highlights of the Old Karuizawa Ginza Street would be shops selling honeys and jams. There are quite a few of these shops, so don't make a hasty decision in entering the first shop and buying things there. Feel free to walk around a bit more and just note down the shops that you like.

Came in mid dec 2022. It was really cold since we are pretty high up in the mountains and that was winter. And due to it being the winter months, some businesses were closed till spring due to lower tourist numbers. However having visited the place in Oct 2018, the lack of any large crowds did make the tourist experience slightly better since it was easier to find seats at local dining spots. Do be careful of snow and sleet in the winter months as it’s a slipping hazard around the area. Even though it rained in the morning, it cleared up by the afternoon and the views of the street was really beautiful.

Kumoba Pond, also known as Kumobaike or "Swan Lake," is a popular destination in Karuizawa, Japan. Legend has it that the pond was formed by rainwater filling the footprint of a giant from nearby Mount Asama. Tourists and photographers flock to this modest pond seasonally to witness its stunning display of autumn leaves, making it a must-see spot for koyo (fall foliage) in Karuizawa.
Beautiful, Scenic pond. with dirt paths and amazing trees. There is a cozy restaurant nearby with a nice view of the pond. A must see in Karuizawa.

Visited Kumoba pond on 11 Nov 2022 and we were quite lucky to catch some of the autumn leaves during our short visit there. It’s probably best to check the reviews around the dates you intend to visit because I imagine it might not be really worth a visit in the winter or when the trees are barren. Also, when we were driving, there were some roadworks and the construction workers told us to continue driving us (and didn’t seem to allow us to turn in) so we ended up parking quite a distance away. However as we walked towards the pond we realised the carpark right by the pond was still open for parking! Make sure you double check with them.

Beautiful pond in the city of Karuizawa to catch the autumn foliage which is beautifully reflected on the water. It's a small pond/lake with a walking path around it.
It's a nice walk from either Karuizawa train station or shopping street. The color of the leaves when it's peak foliage is unbelievable, and do expect crowd at that time of the year.

Beautiful place for autumn foliage. The front area has magnificent view. The best time to go there is first week of November.
There is no entrance fee and it is open anytime. The middle part of the pond is not impressive and there are lots of mosquitoes.
However, there is no parking for cars. The nearest coin parking is about 1 km from the entrance. Some people rented a bicycle and just go there. I guess that’s the best way or you can just walk.
There are several restaurant and cafe nearby. There’s a cozy restaurant beside the pond.

During my trip planning, I misinterpreted it as a lake when I saw the pictures online, it is actually a small pond and interesting enough it is the backyard of some lucky homeowners. However it still worth a visit.
It is near to JR station, reachable by bus or 15-20 minutes walk.
I visited here end of October, trees already welcoming autumn by turn into red. Cool and cozy weather good for exploring.

Nestled in a picturesque setting, Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza is a sprawling complex featuring high-end designer outlets, charming cafes, and delectable restaurants. Boasting over 200 shops across its West, Central, and East sections, this open-air shopping mall offers an exhilarating retail experience akin to an amusement park. Visitors can explore a diverse range of stores offering fashion items, accessories, interior design pieces, and gourmet dining options.
This is one of the largest outlets in Japan and there is a large number of different shops from restaurants, to brand clothing. Unlike many other outlets this outlet has a big lake in the middle and walking around the outlet feels like walking in another town. There is a kids park for kids to play and numerous cafes scattered around the outlet where you can rest and take a brake from shopping. The parking space for vehicles is sufficient for everyone and it is usually never full because of the number of cars it can hold. Definitely stop by if happened to be in Karuizawa.

Quite a huge outlet right next to karuizawa station and if you are also intending to combine a skiing trip this would be quite ideal - shop plus ski in winter.
It was raining on the night I visited and the 2 main shopping wings/building are not connected by shelter. It would be an issue if it is a huge down pour.
The shops closes very early which I felt they should at least extend it to 9pm instead of 8pm which is really too early.
Price wise, if you look hard enough and spend time ploughing through slowly, there are great buys especially the Japanese brands.

It's almost 7-8 km from the karuizawa station. Bus facility is there but please do check the schedule. We took a taxi from price hotel resort for around 2400¥ . And while returning back we took a bus for approx. 500¥.( 25mins) place is calm with natural water reservoir. we couldn't explore due to lack of time but one Indian/ Nepali restaurant is there and few other's too. We went to " Sawamura bakery and restaurant" food was good. Especially black coffee, freshly baked variety bread basket and kids plate !! Kids plate was wholesome and nutritious. Our 5 yrs old could eat a half of it !! Staff was very kind and considerate. We decided to sit outside even on a cold windy afternoon. But she put on a heaters, handed over blankets to cover our legs and offered kids high chair too. There is a famous onsen just a walk away from this place.

The place was nice with variety of shops and restaurants, but it's smaller than expected. Without spending time for a meal or coffee, you may finish exploring the area in 10 mins. I ended up spending more time exploring the nature scenic path along the side than at the Harunire Terrace.

An open air mall as part of the broader Hoshino resort. Anyone is welcome to the mall. Stores are pricier but the atmosphere is comfortable and not crowded. There are lots of benches to enjoy the scene, and free restroom. The mall integrates existing landscaping. Overall should visit at opening as it is not busy.

It looks like a resort, which is nice. There are about 15 stores near the river, all of which have a log house-like design. The atmosphere is great and you will be healed just by being there.
Also, there are many people with pets. 1 in 10 couples bring a dog with them. There are almost no white tourists here, and there seem to be many Asian tourists.
Since I went during high season, the parking lot was crowded and I couldn't get in even after waiting, but for some reason there were 7 free parking spaces available. It is best to walk along the river instead of on the road. It goes by so quickly.

Located in Naka-Karuizawa, within the Hosino area, Harunire Terrace wooden boardwalk is lined with several small and stylish restaurants, bakeries and cafes that are lined parallel to one another.
In addition to eateries, Harunire Terrace is also home to a few boutiques.
Take a stroll along the stream beside the terrace and enjoy the surrounding picturesque forest.
The overall design of Harunire Terrace embraces the use of natural timber, allowing it to blend into its forestry setting.
Although Harunire Terrace is small, it is very pleasant place to spend your time serenading into the nature has to offer.

Stone Church, located in Karuizawa, is a captivating architectural gem that seamlessly blends natural surroundings with man-made design. This stunning church was built as a memorial to Uchimura Kanzo and was designed by American architect Kendrick Kellogg. The unique structure features stone and glass arches of increasing size, creating a solemn atmosphere illuminated by sunlight. It's an exemplary display of organic architecture, prioritizing harmony with nature.
This church is small and constructed beautifully with full of stones. It was built by 1988. Calm and peaceful location.

Architecture marvel harmoniously merging natural elements to create a place of worship
The church seamlessly blends stone, wood, water, and air (windows) to create a natural feeling church. Open to public with no tickets required. No photos allowed when inside the chapel hall. There is a small underground exhibit area that describes the church’s conception from an idea to fruition.
Church may sometimes be closed for weddings

Just 2-3min walk from car parking lot. Can go with Pet but cannot enter the church only outside. No matter what religion you have, architecture itself is worth to visit. All the review photos are for outside but the one area that you are not allowed to take photos is amazing. Recommend going inside to check not just walk around outside.

A tourist spot in Gunma that is now becoming a little famous around the world as a place to shout out your love to your wife🗣️❣️
2023 will be the 18th time that ``Cavechu'', which is usually held at the beginning of September and is a celebration of love in the heart of the cabbage field, will be held in 2023.
A wonderful event that shouts out love and the number of participants is increasing every year.
This time I participated in the event, and it was a very good memory! It feels good to scream lol
Of course, it is also a recommended place on other days, and the [Tsumagoi Panorama Line North Route] that passes near Aizuma no Oka is a popular touring route for bikers in the Kanto region.
Head north from the city center, pass through Karuizawa, and enjoy the view of Japan's largest cabbage field and the beautiful Mt. Asama at Aizuma no Oka.
And just one more walk will take you to the famous hot spring, Kusatsu Onsen ♨️
[Aizuma no Oka] is located in such a great location.
I recommend you to visit on a sunny day, especially from summer to autumn, when the cabbage grows and the scenery typical of Tsumagoi spreads out.☺️
Also, “Sunroad” will open as a new spot in 2023.9☀️
Walking along the path leading to the shouting platform carved with the word “love” from each country will warm your heart⭕️

The Icicles of Misotsuchi is a scenic spot that features an annual display of naturally-formed icicles from spring water. The icicles are framed by rocky ledges, creating a magical and breathtaking sight, especially when lit up at night. While photos may capture the beauty of the scene, nothing compares to experiencing it firsthand.
Lovely scenery set up in a little camping ground. Extremely well organized with traffic directions along the way. It seems to have a reputation beyond locals - saw a group of monks hailing from Thailand. Their orange sash adds a beautiful mythical dimension to the atmosphere. Remarkable and mesmerizing.
Frances Sun — Google review
Absolutely loved the place. But just to inform, these are not natural. lol. You can see pipes with holes in them through which the water flows and freezes. (Of course it's still nature's beauty the way it freezes).
Don't forget to take a walk untill the end to enjoy more views. Expect to spend around 40 minutes easily.
The parking costs 500 yen and then the entrance costs additional 200 yen.
Rahul Garg — Google review
What an amazing, magical sight to see the icicles of Misotsuchi at night! All I can say is you have to see it for yourself because being there is nothing like you see in the photos. Photos are beautiful. But they don’t give you half the feeling of what it’s like to see the icicles with your own eyes. This was the last day of the illumination so we were really lucky to have made it, especially because COVID-19 has changed the visiting rules quite a bit. Taken on Emperor’s Day 2022.
Bernadette Estepa (Gaijin Guide) — Google review
The icicles are so beautiful. As the bus here is not frequent during the winter and the last bus depart to station is like before 4pm from here. And it is quite far away from the station. would suggest enjoy the illumination, stay nearby and go to mitsumine shrine in early morning the next day

A great scenic spot. It will instantly charge your body. There's a bus line that connect this place, Mitsumine Shrine, and Seibu Chichibu station. Best time to visit: mid winter around end of January and early February. There's an illumination every evening. Don't miss it
Andreas Ade Kristian — Google review
The actual icicles are beautiful but it's a bit of an ordeal to get there, and there's not much around. So you pretty much go there, look and leave. It was a strange day: almost 7 hours of transports back and forth from Meguro for an hour there...
Amandine — Google review
The icicles look stunning in both daylight and in night with the illumination. As this place is not far from Tokyo, absolutely worth the visit.
Nestled at an elevation above 1,000m, Mitsumine Shrine is a historical and powerful site that has gained popularity as one of the leading "power spots" in Kanto. The shrine boasts must-see attractions including large trees along the entrance path, a majestic shrine, and an ancient sacred tree. Visitors can also witness breathtaking views of sea of clouds during spring and autumn.
Beautiful place and unique architecture as compared to the other Japanese temples/shrines.

Beautiful shrine with a great hike up to it, if you want. Very serene and peaceful. The architecture of the buildings is gorgeous and well kept.
Houston Jay — Google review
This is a bit of a slog but a very beautiful shrine, with great hiking nearby. There is water and snacks for sale at the shrine, but very little on the trails. It's best to go early, as the bus from Mitsumineguchi to the shrine takes almost an hour, and we were packed in like cattle. In the winter! Lots of wolf statues and torii gates. The shrine itself has services, and is flanked by two sacred trees that you walk out on a walkway to worship/appreciate. Worth the trip, but be prepared to stand up for a while to get there.
Laura Light — Google review
It takes a while to get here but it was worth it. For the adventurous, there are a couple of trails you can take to get there and also to the back temple. It was so quiet and serene, being surrounded by all the trees. Would definitely come back here again.
Kathy Wan — Google review
For me, shrines in Japan have always been something I tried to avoid due to them being so similar and not really offering anything unique. And this still stands for shrines in Tokyo. Outside of Tokyo though, the shrines are beautifully surrounded by nature.
Mitsumine shrine in Chichibu, Saitama is up ontop of a mountain with a superb view (if the weather is nice). Its not too crowded and if you're brave enough you can even hike up. It must be really worth it.
Neil Eichenberger — Google review
It is located in the Okuchichibu Mountains in Saitama Prefecture. It is said to be the strongest power spot in the Kanto area, overflowing with the power of nature. The "enmusubi tree" is said to be 800 years old, and the "chi" from the sacred tree is said to be 800 years old. The "Haruhai-den" (far hall of worship) is also popular for its spectacular view of the sea of clouds, if you are lucky.

Mitsumin Temple is the oldest temple in Saitama Prefecture. It was built by Yamato Takeru in 712. The temple is located 6617 feet up the mountain. (1603-1868) Many residents of present-day Tokyo used to trek to Chichibu on foot to pray for protection.
Saiful Islam — Google review
Very similar layout to Nikko. Deep in the mountain forest. The road is windy and a little far from the Chichibu itself. Very restful and large.
Mark Williams — Google review
A beautiful shrine and well worth the trip. If you're in the Chichibu area, this place is a must.
If you decide to drive, be sure to pack some snacks and to be careful on the road. The hour drive from chichibu is completely uphill on a very narrow road. There's two rest stops along the way, but there's no way to stop once you're at the base of the road leading to the shrine.
Google review
Beautiful shrine in the mountains. Options to include a mountain hike.
Mitsumine is a beautiful shrine high on the mountains outside of Chichibu (a little under an hour's drive). It is a great experience that is highly recommended. If you are feeling particularly energetic, you can hike from the temple (there's a good parking lot where you can leave your car) to several nearby mountain tops (between three and ten kilometres hiking away).
Even if you're feeling less energetic, the temple offers great views of the area around. One tip would be to explore the temple before lunch and eat at the little restaurant on the temple grounds which has a balcony overlooking the mountains.

This is a very beautiful and well-preserved example of a historic Japanese town. I went here several times in the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. Interestingly, one of the things that stood out the most was the total lack of visible power lines, which so clutter most of our cities. However, there are only a few shops open even on weekends. It was sunny and quite hot in July, so I looked for a cafe, but there were only a few. It's nice to be in the shade and the breeze is cool, but it's a bit of a shame because it would have been fun to walk around if it was a little more commercialized.
We stopped at a gallery, a museum, a cafe at a glass art shop, and they were all lovely.

(Translated by Google) Due to landscape protection, from the main street ``Old Hokkoku Kaido'', you can see town structures such as power lines, utility poles, vending machines, and shops, as well as laundry and bed drying racks, as well as TV antennas and cars in the parking lot. Houses are planned and built in such a way that there is no such thing.
Judging from the ``Hokkoku Kaido'' of the Edo period and the ``waterway stone walls'' on both sides of the road, the road was probably wide enough for ``Daiyachiguruma'' to pass each other.
As it was a post town, there are remains of the ``honjin ruins'' and the ``salt licking stone'' placed in front of the ``toiyaba'' for giving salt to horses.
People who can only do work that is unlikely to get them promoted are called ``people who don't rise to the top,'' and this ``udatsu'' can be seen in this city. It seems that the original purpose was to keep out fires from neighboring houses and to prevent prying eyes.
It is a city where modern life continues while preserving the scenery of the Edo period.
Although it cannot be compared to ``Shirakawa-go, Gassho-zukuri'' or ``Ouchi-juku, Thatched Roof Town,'' it is a town that I would like to preserve for future generations.
There are toilets, water, and vending machines next to the free parking lot at the east end.
There are some old folk house style cafes along the way, but most of them seem to be under construction on weekdays. Before walking in the summer sun, be sure to take precautions against the heat and prepare drinks.

Unlike the famous post towns, there are few souvenir shops, stylish cafes, or facilities that allow visitors to tour the interior, which may be the reason for the lack of tourists, but the buildings that retain the vestiges of those days are in a wonderful state of preservation and are impressive.

Ueda, situated in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, is home to approximately 157,480 people living in 67,783 households. The city boasts a population density of around 290 individuals per square kilometer. Local residents frequently change Kobo-chan's attire to reflect the current season or weather conditions.

I'll never travel to Nagoya without this trip planner again
The Ueda Castle Ninomaru ruin, which dates back to 1583, has been reconstructed atop a hill. The site includes two Shinto shrines and a museum that showcases the area's local history. Despite being relatively small in size, the place is quite pleasant. Although I did not have the opportunity to explore the castle itself, I was impressed by the abundance of flowers in the surrounding park and a delightful traditional event taking place nearby.
Huge park with museums, a shrine, and much more. You can spend so much time appreciating the history and beauty here. The whole month of April is a cherry blossom festival and it becomes very lively with street food stalls and people.

Really lovely castle with a very rich history of one of the coolest samurai clan in all of Japan, the Sanada clan, famous for their samurai uniform with antlers and red color (you've probably seen in movies). Ueda castle also had legendary defense battles against many sieges, the subject of a popular Japanese tv show "sanadamaru". The castle is also featured in other works such as "Summer Wars". While the castle gates aren't as big as Matsumoto castle, I think they are definitely worth visiting if you are in the area..they have amazing armor on display and a rich cultural center and museum nearby.

Came here 4/10/2022 and the sakura were all in full bloom. Depending on the year, the time of the bloom will change so check before you go. There were many food stalls selling your standard Japanese snack foods. I walked around the moat about 3 times just to admire the beautiful sakura trees on both sides.
TIP: In the middle of the moat is this small park that everyone just tends to overlook so it's not that crowded. Bring or buy food from the food stalls and eat it here. If you have a tarp, you can spread it out on the grass. There are also benches you can sit on as well. I climbed up the stairs and got a seat under a gazebo, right in front of a GORGEOUS pink sakura tree.
Highly recommend this place during cherry blossom season. I personally wouldn't plan a trip here off-season though since there's not much of a castle to see (but I'm just not a castle person in the first place...)

Some rooms have been renovated, and the main dining area and lobby are nice. All staff were friendly and polite. The hotel has an observatory and you can see stars when the weather is good. There was also a piano concert in the lobby when we stayed. There’s a pond and garden where you can take a stroll, and the hot spring and sauna are very relaxing. It was originally an artificial pond for agricultural use, but it has been turned into a tourist spot. It has fallen into disrepair since its heyday, and is increasingly falling into ruin. It feels like Ikenotaira Hotel is struggling alone.
I think the scenery is beautiful in all seasons.
The autumn leaves are beautiful now 🍁
There are many deer at night, so be careful.

Kobuchizawa, a former town in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, was merged into the city of Hokuto in 2006. This picturesque area is surrounded by boardinghouses, hotels, and ryokan inns. Visitors can enjoy activities such as horseback riding and skiing while also exploring art galleries and parks. With its charming accommodations and diverse attractions, Kobuchizawa offers a delightful retreat for travelers seeking relaxation and outdoor adventures.
Nestled in the natural beauty of Yamanashi, the Yatsugatake Resort Outlet Mall offers a unique shopping experience with a backdrop of outdoor adventures. The mall features a variety of stores, including popular brands like Avirex, which often offer generous sales. While some shops have closed down, there are still three recommended outdoor stores to explore: Hardware, Colombia, and an Italian brand. The setting amidst the forest is picturesque and provides ample parking.
Avirex is one of our favorite brand. The sales lady was very kind and it was a lucky day yesterday because of the huge sale not only on Avirex but on most of the stores.
We went here during weekdays so it was a slack day and there were only few shoppers but I like it that way, we had a lot of time to choose without minding the cost and the limited items.

This place used to be really enjoyable shopping mall, but now it’s dying out. Most tenants have left and there are a lot of vacant place. It doesn’t deserve to be visited at all, now. On top of that, free parking became toll parking. It was another disappointing point.

Compact in size and major brand shops are missing but it’s like shopping in the middle of a forest and it feels good. The whole place closes at 7pm and dinner has to be pretty early if you want to eat there. Coupon discount with highway toll is available, and will save you almost the one way toll for shopping coupon!

It is a comfortable mall in the mountains and full of nature.
There are not many famous stores, but it is fun to search for outdoor and ethnic related bargains.
It is a wonderful place to relax slowly with a family on a sunny day.

This is like a ghost town outlet. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the burger restaurant which I thought was very good. Most stores here are closed. I wouldn't suggest coming here.
Scott K (Mr. Scott) — Google review
A generous rating as the location is wonderful, nice restaurants. 40% of shops seem closed down unfortunately. Nice to walk around.

Most of the stores have closed since I last went there. I do recommend the three outdoor stores there though. Hardware, Colombia and another Italian brand that I don't remember the name of.
Food choices are avarage.

The outlet is in a very nice setting, among the forest of 八ヶ岳. Plenty of parking area too. However, the range of shops are slightly limited, and mostly focus on outdoor clothing.

Lovely peaceful park. Statue is Kannon, Konzeon Bosatsu. Nice halo. Beautiful coloring. Avalokitesvara of Lotus Sutra, Renge Kyo, who takes form of Quan Shi Yin, who is Konzeon Bosatsu. Avalokitesvara is a central figure in Buddhism who is the compassion of all Buddhas and the Bodhisattva of compassion. A Bosatsu has abandoned the self-interest of their own rest in Nirvana / Nibbana to continue in service to all sentient beings. Buddhist teachings from Nichiren in the 1200's have emphasized Lotus Sutra and have led to proliferation of statuary showing the wide variety of forms of the Bodhisattva of Compassion.

The overwhelming collapse preservation gravel and the scenery of the mountains were wonderful
Text
I visited when I visited Shioyu Onsen.
The collapsed preserved gravel looked a little artistic, and the sight that would have been formed by the collapse of many rocks was overwhelming, including its scale and size.
Also, when I looked at the other side from the collapsed gravel, the Koshibu River flowed in the center, and the mountains surrounded it, and the scenery reminiscent of a valley spread out.
Mt. Akaishi with snow-covered scenery in the distance, combined with the vast, idyllic and natural scenery
It was a very nice view.
I visited at a time when it seemed out of winter, so it was very quiet and healed with few people.
However, I think that the scenery ahead will be more beautiful when it comes to the spring and fresh green seasons.
It was a better place than I expected. Also, if I have a chance to come to Oshika, I would like to stop by.

I visited during Golden Week, and there were only 2 or 3 groups of people using it, so I was able to relax and have fun.
The playground equipment was in the shadow of the mountain in the afternoon, so it was cool to play.
The toilet was also clean and spacious.
I would definitely like to visit during the cherry blossom season.

(Translated by Google) This is a prefectural park in Oshika Village. I noticed that there was something that looked like a park at the foot of the mountain across the river from the parking lot in front of the restaurant "Deer Eater" that appeared in the movie "Oshika Village Incident", so I googled it. Turn around the intersection near the roadside station Oshika Village and go up to the big parking lot 🅿.
It is said that it was built to pray for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the great mountain collapse that occurred in 1963, and for the reconstruction of the village. Unfortunately, there was no one there due to the rain, but you can see Oshika Village along the river. There were also a lot of cherry blossom trees, so I think it's a famous spot for cherry blossoms. There are also children's games. Now it's free. It's a place I would like to visit again.

In 1961, the mountain slope collapsed due to torrential rains, and mud and sand blocked the river and changed its flow. There were also many casualties. Kannon is standing on top of the pile of earth and sand.
The park holds many events, including cherry blossom viewing in the spring, fireworks and stargazing events in the summer, and the Oshika Craft Festival in the fall.

(Translated by Google) What are the 36 disasters?
Ina Valley, where we live, is a region rich in beautiful nature surrounded by the Central Alps to the west and the Southern Alps to the east. However, sometimes beautiful nature can be violent. In 1961, heavy rains hit Ina Valley due to an approaching typhoon and a stagnant seasonal rain front, causing river flooding, debris flows, and landslides in various parts of Ina Valley. It was a disaster of such magnitude that it is said that it only occurs once every few decades or once every hundred years. Some villages have had their houses and fields washed away by the debris flow, and some have been flooded with water, while others have been completely destroyed by the debris flow. There were 136 people killed or missing in the 36 disasters, and 1,500 houses were completely destroyed, washed away, or partially destroyed.
