There are set viewing times and Japanese explanations of the temple's history and the process of the creation of Hokusai's painting. The temple staff were all friendly and welcoming. No photography allowed and the explanation by the priest is only in Japanese, so you'll get the most out of it if you can understand or with someone who can. Went on a Monday morning in February and we were the only people there. There is parking for tour buses, so recommended to go early in the morning or weekdays for the best experience.

Really nice place. Huge souvenir shop next to a huge park with a place for kids to play with water, massive wood/log based playground and grounds for a picnic. I gave it four stars because there were a couple of dead carp in the lake. Kinda gross but the cheap fruit market made up for...almost.
