Very nice park! Playground, soccer, basketball, bicycle / running path. No car parking, but fine by bicycle. Right next to a subway station as well.

This is a great place. They have a walking track with 700m and 1.1km.

There is a playground for children, and it is good for them to play. Many parents are relaxing by pitching tents, but no fire is allowed here. It is a large park so that you can enjoy walking.

It's a beautiful park. It has a big open area for park activity such as baseball practice and soccer practice and most sports. It had fitness stations all around and anyone can exercise effectively for free at this place. They have vending machines available if you needed a drink and even have festivals where food trucks come. I recommend this park.I always go there and work out with the nice scenery.

The Nissan Stadium, previously known as Yokohama International Stadium, is a 70,000-seater football stadium in Yokohama City. The venue regularly hosts international and J League fixtures. It will be hosting the Rugby World Cup 2019.
One of the football stadium in Japan, if not the best in Yokohama! The staff were friendly even-though they don't speak English. They have a store next to the stadium where they sell football jerseys.
Massimo Burhanuddin — Google review
Great stadium experience! Hosts about 70,000 - and a sold out game creates a fantastic experience. The running track makes the pitch a bit far away, but other than that a nice piece of work, Japan!
Mark Stoop — Google review
Brilliant stadium, so much for fans to do and options to eat and very easily accessible from Shin Yokohama, atmosphere is great. Views from the seats are not great is the only downside.
Also since no one mentioned and I wondered before, there are no bag restrictions, many people brought in huge backpacks and there were no issues at all
Ashley Lockwood — Google review
A bit far from the station, but great stadium .
Michi T — Google review
Huge stadium and very good pitch. International standard
Saldi Gaisudraz — Google review
The Awesome Stadium offers impeccable organization, cleanliness, in-stadium dining options, convenient restroom access, and easy reach from train stations. For an optimal experience during home J-League matches, consider securing seats near Yokohama Marino's side.

Great stadium tour, with great views of the interior on a clear day. Would recommend a visit if you get the chance to tour.

Love this place. Really impressed with the story of the stadium through the volunteer guide 86 years old. He did an excellent job with many stories, fact, tips and very good speaking English.

2023.04.08 Watched a great game at the Stadium. We were a bit late for the food trucks outside as there were many people queueing for everything. Tourists should be there at least three hours before the game to enjoy the atmosphere and food. The food we bought were very good! Make sure you don't miss the player introduction in night games. Amazing light effect. The fan were superb all night. The stadium is so big.
Ric W — Google review
I watched a football match, the atmosphere was so nice.

Fantastic stadium, great atmosphere when crowded. Typically too few spectators for a J League match with Yokohama Marinos. Very easy/safe to bring your kids along

Atmosphere was brilliant, would love to be there when it's a full stadium. Loads of selection for food and the people are so nice and helpful. All round a great experience.
Alister Laidlaw — Google review
I went for a rock concert. The stadium is large and can accommodate a lot of people. However, it took a long time (for myself, around 40 minutes) for dispersing the audience. Walking distance to shin Yokohama station took around 10-15 minutes.
Ning Chang — Google review
Quick visit to fulfill my husband’s wishes to be here. We also bought the muffler from the souvenir store
Nadiah Razak — Google review
An incredibly interesting and informative tour, for Scottish people particularly, due to rugby and team -specific football links. We went in March 2023 and were expecting to have to translate a Japanese tour but the Japanese stadium volunteer gave a wonderful tour in English. She was chatting and asking questions in English and made our Nissan stadium experience truly wonderful. Can't thank her enough!
Mara Strange — Google review
The stadium is pretty good however it could do with so more food options.
The drink options are ok and little queues for them with a lemon sour coatings about 500 yen and a beer costing 750. If you are a beer drinking, try the lemon sours, they grow on you.
The stadium itself is a athletics field so for football(soccer) you are a bit far away from the action.
Yokohama F Marinos crowd was good however seeing how they are the reigning champs and were on top of the table the crowd size was a bit disappointing. Kawasaki Frontale crowds are better in my opinion.

LaLaport Yokohama is a spacious and modern shopping mall with a wide variety of shops and restaurants, including a nice food court. It's conveniently located near JR Kamoi station, with easy access from the north exit and a free shuttle bus to/from IKEA. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of stores catering to their interests, such as A&F, North Face, Columbia, Chums, and more.
A good mall with many different brands and shops and food choices. There is everything you need here. There is also free parking which is awesome! Recommended!

Megamall of 3 levels with many shops and many deals.
Definitely need at least half a day for this place. There is a daiso at the top level, and akachan which sells reasonably priced kids products.
I loved the supermarket at level 1, which sells many souvenirs / snacks.

As an outdoor enthusiast, there were lots of outdoor stores such as A&F, North Face, Columbia, Chums, and many more. There’s everything in this mall from make up, clothes, shoes, musical instruments, and equipment. Even if you’re not looking to buy anything, it’s a good place to walk around.

One thing which I like about is that it is nearer to Panasonic. It has all the things which you need except the grocery and cooking products. Instead of that you can get electronics, pharmacy, cloths etc. Which is common in almost every mall.

Yokohama Zoological Gardens “Zoorasia” is a vast zoo that showcases a diverse range of animals in open-air habitats, along with recreational areas and dining options. It's home to rare species like okapis and Dendrolagus goodfellowi (sesuji-kinobori-kangaroos). The zoo is divided into ecological zones representing different global climate regions, each carefully designed to replicate the natural environment of its inhabitants.
Amazing zoo near Yokohama with over eight different animal habitats. We really enjoyed our time here and the only complaint was we didn't make it to all of the exhibits because we arrived around 1400 and it closes at 1630. Make sure you arrive early in the morning when they open the gates at 930 so you can see everything. Also, it's quite a walk to go from one side to the other so make sure you wear comfortable clothes, check the weather and bring some water. It costs ¥800 to enter for an adult and children under the age of elementary school are free. I highly recommend you visit with your family.

A Great Way to Spend time with family and friends here.
A great zoo with many animals you would not expect in Colorado, like tigers, elephants, giraffes, and many from warmer climates.
They also had penguins and grizzly bears. All habitats were educational and the overall scenery was great. Plenty of food options, we had pizza and meatballs, that can fill the youngest to oldest taste desires. All staff are willing to help and educate about the animals they are working with. A definite must for families with younger children, or those whom like getting some excise, fresh air, and see interesting animals.

A good place for family with little kids. The zoo is pretty spacious and it may take more than one day if you want to have a completed tour inside. There are several playgrounds that kids will be mad with. The food served in the restaurant is tasty enough and price is affordable as well.
Martin Zhu — Google review
Great experience for kids. Feels like a jungle safari than visiting a zoo. I was impressed by how elaborately the facility was built. The shade, rest area, and restrooms are clean and conveniently located at a short walk away. The roads are well-maintained and the paths are wide, making it easy to navigate even with strollers and wheelchairs.
RS Anbu — Google review
I went there during the summer vacation which was the humidity was too high. But then, the zoo has trees that eliminate the too much warm of the place. They have variety of animals which are divided according to their habitat. I really recommend this place to the parents who want to let their children enjoy the nature.
If you get tired of walking to the different parts of the zoo, you don't have to worry about it as they have a lot of benches which you can take rest if get exhausted. You can also buy snacks along the way of ever you feel thirsty or hungry.
By the way I purchased my ticket online via tripadvisor. It was 975yen.
Hazel ?Zel? Cerio — Google review
The zoo was large however, some of the animals looked quite thin. Example, there was a lion in one of the enclosed window exhibits that looked extremely thin, almost sick. Same with the polar bear. There was also a bunny exhibit but it was so high bordered by bushes that I had to hold my kids up to see it. The paths were not very stroller friendly. And there should be better pest control in the bathroom because my wife and I couldn’t change our baby due to a 7 inch spider lurking near the table. The plus side is that they had every animal on the map and it was nice enough weather, they all came out.
Andrew Morrell — Google review
Yokohama Zoological Gardens "ZOORASIA" is an unique zoo which employs as few fences as possible so that visitors can see the animals living in an environment similar to their natural habitat. The zoo is divided into zones of different climates such as Asian Tropical Forest, Subarctic Forest, Amazon Jungle, Japanese Countryside and African Tropical Rain Forest. There is also a grass park and the "Wanpaku Forest" with play equipments. The zoo also includes a closed facility, Yokohama City Breeding Center, which was founded with the purpose of researching wildlife and contributing to the preservation of rare species.

A wonderful zoo to visit in Yokohama and the whole of Greater Tokyo.
The zoo is very large, and has a lot of different animals from all corners of the world.
There are playgrounds for the little ones to play as well. As well as a couple of places to eat (nothing fancy, but decent food court style food).
Highly recommended.

Beautiful and vast zoo full of different kinds of animals. They nicely categorized the animals in different habitats :D
Not to mention there's plenty of playground for kids :)
Polar bear, red panda and okapi are the popular ones
Kisuke Chua — Google review
There are lots of animals and keeper talks throughout the day. The park is large, so plan for nearly full day trip. You can get water in vending machines scattered around the park, and food in two of four main buildings. This is a good place for adults as well as families. Make sure to start as soon as the zoo opens (9:30) so that you can take your time and not rush.
We visited on a very hot day, so many animals were hiding by noon, but it was still a very nice walk.
Eva Kru — Google review
We visited this zoo on Jan 2023, in a really great day with a good weather. It was sunny. This area is very good for family, especially for the children. They can have some fun there. Also there are some spots for buying and eating foods. The ticket for adult is 700 and for children, it was 500 yen, I guess. It has a large parking area and the cost is 700 yen.
S. V — Google review
beautiful zoo with huge well-thought out enclosures for the animals. downside though is that some animals are alone in a huge enclosure makes them look like they're lonely. but all in all the zoo is very beautiful and has the most humane (in my opinion) enclosures that i have ever seen in a zoo. the whole feel of the zoo is that of a forest with trekking pathways leading you to see the animals.
entrance fee is very cheap, 800¥ for adult and 200¥/300¥ for kids. there are restaurants inside but there's no problem if you bring your own drinks and food or obentos.
best enclosures for me and the kids:
polar bear, penguins', seal
what to look out for:
the rare OKAPI
(with only 22,000 left all over the world.)
parking fee:
1000¥

Whether you're into swimming, surfing, or simply taking a leisurely stroll along the coastline, this beach has something for everyone. Excellent place to enjoy good food with friends with fantastic view of the beach!!

It is very convenient to go by car (just used the expressway to avoid traffic). There are parking lots nearby and cost 2,000yen per day. There are toilets on the beach area and paid shower rooms (about 500yen). You can also rent parasol, body boards and floaters.
The beach has great and big waves perfect for surfers. Surfing is allowed before 8:30am and after 5pm so people can enjoy swimming on the beach.
There are nearby cafes, convenience stores and restaurants if you don’t want to bring food.
There is a barbecue area nearby the beach and cost around 10,000yen.
This beach is a good place for a quick getaway to beat the summer heat. Kids and adults will definitely enjoy the splash of beach waves.

Came here as a foreigner with a few of my friends.
With the limited Japanese I knew, I approached the lifeguards to ask where we could get a beach tent to rent. To our surprise, they gave us one for free to use! That was the highlight of my day ! The atmosphere was warm and friendly. There are some restaurants on the beach that are good for drinks mainly lol. I'm not used to certain tastes of foods so it will take some getting used to. We had a great time and as Jamaicans, we are spoiled with our beaches but this was a good experience! Thank you once more to the lifeguards. Sorry I didn't get their names but we are so appreciative!

Step into the whimsical world of Doraemon and other beloved characters at the Fujiko・F・Fujio Museum. This museum is a tribute to the renowned Japanese cartoonist, Fujiko F Fujio, showcasing his original art and related documents. Visitors can immerse themselves in the creative process behind iconic characters like Doraemon, Kiteretsu, and Perman.
As a Doraemon lover, a visit to this museum was a wonderful and fun experience. You can find all of the characters of Doraemon anime series, P-Man and others characters i couldn’t mention each.
There is a manga reading section.
An a large outdoor and indoor space with many character instalation being placed.
One hour is not enough.
The souvenir shop sells so many cute things. Don’t forget the cafe too.
It’s mindblowing, all the food being presented in a unique and cute way.
If you visit the museum, you also have to ride the doraemon theme bus. Everything is dorameon decorated.
Reservation is needed before you visit this museum.

However the text and description of the displays inside are all in Japanese, not friendly to foreigners. At least the short movie session has English subtitle.

Tickets must be bought in advance and picked up in convinient store (7eleven, Lawson..). No problem to get there from Noborito eki by bus directly to Doraemon museum within 9minutes. Bus drives there every 15mins.

We also visited the restaurant. Meal was really good, but quite expensive.

Best experience and I was so glad that I visited here. From childhood, I just dreamed of visiting this world. I am really connected with the artwork of Hiroshi Fujimoto. Hiroshi Fujimoto is the creator of Doraemon. He is known as Fijiko.F. Fujio. All of his real art work are stored here. There are 3 floors and one open Gardner with a restaurant and souvenir shop. You are not allowed to take pictures inside of 1st and 2nd floors. The professor's real artwork and books, raw sketches everything is stored and displayed nicely. The cherry on the top is there is an English audiobook. So when I'm passing through each and every walkway and art piece, I'm listening to them and really feel connected to the professor's works. They give you a map where it was also written that no photography. I hope foreigner will respect their rules. I'm sure even without photography, you can enjoy the art if you are really into anime and Doraemon fan. They also give a free show of 15-minute episodes of Doraemon. One day trip is a good decision.

Nonetheless, it was an awesome experience, I got to learn more about, not just Doraemon, but Fujiko F Fujio's history and all other of hist masterpiece. You could appreciate all of his work in this museum. There is also a short movie (episode) screening few times a day. Also to add, you need to buy tickets beforehand. I recommend to buy them at any Lawson convenience store.

Located in Kawasaki, not far from Tokyo. Will recommend anyone who like doraemon and author"s follower to pay a visit. The museum is not big but features enough for a 3 hours trip. There is also a cafe in it so don't worry. Even the buses featuring doraemon.

I have lived in Canada, China and Singapore. Every county shows Doraemon on TV and everyone knows well. So if you like Doraemon and Fujiko F Fujio works, you must visit here.
We can only buy tickets in Lawson, convenience store.
We have to buy a ticket before visiting this museum, please take note. This is because the museum would like to control visitors number precisely. When you buy a ticket, you need to designate the time that you will visit.
Here is little bit far from the nearest station.
You can use buses from "Noborito" Station.
At the entrance, check audio guide QR code, which has several languages (Japanese, English..etc).
There are a lot of works in the museum.
I love statue of "Handsome Gian", which we can see in one episode of comics.
I spent 4 hours in this museum ( Three hours wondering, One hour lunch time). Secure your time enough and visit here!

Super nice museum! Went for Perman, mainly saw exhibitions of Doraemon, so it would've being nice to see originals of all the other works too. But the museum is very well kept, the audio guide is available for free in English, the exposed drawings are super cool and they even have a machine to do custom stamps! They even have a map to look for tiny statues around the town!
The manga room and cafe were super cozy.
Very nice :)
I recommend getting the tickets in any Lawson before going for convenience (they're 1000¥ per person).
Gabby Vila — Google review
If you love Doraemon comics, cartoon or films, it is the place you need to go. Booking the entrance via Loppi machine in Lawson convenient stores is the general way to get the tickets easily. Then just take the JR train to Noborito station and have the transit with the bus to museum directly.
The museum is not wide or spacious so that driving your cars is not recommended since it is hard to find the parking lots. Public transportation is the workable option for the tourists here.
No photo shooting is allowed indoors. However, there are lots of famous icons outdoors for photo taken. You can enjoy the imagination and the creative decoration with kids and understand the original concept of Doraemon here.
Since the museum is not big, it is more crowded in the afternoon. You may come here earlier in order to enjoy the interior facilities. Enjoy!

If you are a fan of Doraemon, you must come here once. You can learn a lot about the stories behind the creators. This museum is not big and can be visited in two hours. The desserts in the museum are delicious and worth tasting! I love the town the museum is in, it's beautiful! After visiting the museum, you can explore the town.

If you love Doraemon, you definitely need to visit this place. The experience was worth the money. It was very informative and fun. There is a gift shop at the basement so you can buy souvenirs and present. Traveling there is also very easy, they have a city bus that comes every 15 minutes that all the staff were very friendly, especially the guard at their gate (he deserves a raise for doing the best he can to help the visitors) 😊

It was very beautiful. You can listen to the English audio guide. Everything is written in Japanese the movie was subtitled which is a blessing. Watched doraemon as a kid and it is very emotional and moving to be here.

Exhibition area where they contain history of Hiroshi sensei is a must see, incredibly priceless, you can learn a lot about sensei’s history and where he came from. The cartoon that they shows in theater also very fun and can’t watch it anywhere else. If you are a doraemon fan you gotta visit here once in your life time.

A great museum for those who are interested to understand Fujiko’s lifetime and his creation of the famous Doraemon from scratch.
The ticket also comes with a short film.
There’re also some amazing activities and outdoor areas for children to explore and enjoy.
A great place to visit for fans and families!

I have a great time here. I bought ticket in advance from Klook with only 1,000¥. Used QR code printed out and got a paper ticket for souvenir. Spent about 30 mins for visit the exhibition, enjoy the original art work and history, timeframe including Doraemon (they provide QR code web app for English version guideline) then walk arond reading area with special gachapon then saw a special short Doraemon film for the musium. After that I line up for the cafe, enjoy a special moment with Doraemon menu. Took a picture while walking outdoor and got some special suovenir. Fulfill your kid heart with a original doraemon. I spent around 3 hrs before my next schedule.
Sakonporn Onla-or — Google review
Entrance ticket is too expensive, not really anything interesting inside. Doraemon is my favourite childhood cartoon, yet I don't think the collections are impressive. A lot of the works are not translated so unless you have some proficiency in Japanese probably you will have no idea what the drawings mean. Additionally they forbid you to take pictures so you can't just save it for later.
There are also some non-doraemon works of Fujio, but clearly they're not the main attraction.

Field Athletics Yokohama Tsukushino Course is a kids' obstacle course located in a picturesque, park-like setting. It features 4 zones with varying levels of challenge suitable for outdoor exercise. The Adventure Forest of Tom Sawyer playground and attractions like the W Freefalls, Long Tunnel Slide, and zipper-lining courses are popular among visitors. While parking is free, it tends to fill up quickly, leading to a 5-10 minute walk from overflow parking.
Aka big adventure playground great for kids. With just 800 yen entrance fee you can enjoy 50 equipments which include water-based ones. Make sure to bring change of clothes(the kids get wet, sweaty or muddy!), drink and food. Not a lot of drink and food is sold at the shop. Cotton gloves are included in the fee. Most of the equipments’ level is good for elementary schools kids and above, some 4 or 5yo can enjoy them too. There is a free parking in front of the entrance, but most of the time it gets full quite quickly after opening.

Parking is free but gets full and overflow parking is a 5-10min walk. The most of the obstacle courses are not for toddlers, preschoolers, or if you have a fear of heights. There's a place to grill and plenty of picnic benches to sit and relax. Well worth the admission fee (¥3K for family of 4).
Anthony Not-Tony — Google review
During my weekend visit, the park was as crowded as expected. It's a bit of a distance from the nearest train station, so if you're using public transport, be prepared for a walk. The park itself is quite spacious, covering a large area. Most of the obstacles are challenging and suitable for kids aged 7-8 and above. However, there are a few obstacles with attached slides that are designed for younger kids. It's a good idea to bring spare clothes as the ones they're wearing will likely get dirty. One notable section of the park features obstacles in a pond, which is quite popular. Overall, it's a great place for kids to burn off some energy. However, if you have a toddler who isn't as agile as others, you may be limited to just one or two obstacles.

The Samukawa Shrine, a serene Shinto sanctuary with a rich heritage of 1,600 years is famous for its traditional festivities. On a bright sunny day, I walked along the river from my hometown to reach this historical site in Samukawa city. This shrine is unique and renowned for bringing good fortune and eliminating misfortunes through its Happo yoke ritual. Families flocked to the shrine seeking blessings and endless benefits while enjoying the beautiful scenery around it.
Atmosphere there is something fresh and keeping clean and overwhelmed. This shrine had established since 1600 year ago at least according to its history.

Went there on New Year’s Eve 2023 after 1:00am. Heavy traffic. Parking space felt it was organized by Yakuza - very expensive. Buttakuri!
Food kiosks felt were syndicated! Though the experience is unique. It was super cold, and many people had come to do their New Year wishes and prayers,
I give 3 stars because of the way parking and food kiosks were organized. Through the shrine is old, the gate is illuminated with neon lights, and that did not make it feel old!

We walked along a river side from my home town to Samukawa city for about 2 hours and our goal point was this historical old Shrine, Samukawa Shrine. It was a beautiful sunny day and many people were visiting here with their families for their fortune in the future.

The shrine is famous throughout the Kanto region as a place to remove all directions.
There are several parking lots in the vicinity. During normal times, you can park anywhere, but during the Hatsumode (New Year's visit) season, the roads in the vicinity are completely blocked. Parking at the shrine is free, but during the Hatsumode season, temporary private parking lots are set up all around the area. If you do not pay for parking during the Hatsumode season, you will probably lose a lot of time. There are stores selling souvenirs in one corner of the approach to the shrine and in the second parking lot. Not only shrine-related items, but also Shonan souvenirs are available.
By public transportation, it is about a 5-minute walk from Miyayama Station on the Sagami Line. Shuttle buses are available from Hon Atsugi and Ebina during the Hatsumode season.

Definitely checkout the huge sakura trees with hana daikon planted at the base on the east side of the park, see if you can find the weeping sakura alley (hint, it’s by the azalea hill) and the museum is great value for money and an awesome place to take visitors, both old and young.

Koganei Park is the perfect place for anyone who fancies flowers, wide open spaces, a leisurely stroll, or even a bit of history. Its proximity to downtown Tokyo makes it a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.
I visited this park today for hanami with some good friends. It's about a 30 to 35-minute bike ride away from where I live (Higashikurume), but it is also easily accessible via train or bus.
Koganei Park features spacious grassy areas, which serve as a perfect spot for picnic and games. A children's playground complete with various amenities (swings, slides, small zip-lines, sledding hill, etc.) are also available, which are sure to entice kids and kids-at-heart alike. And of course, the famous sakura trees in full bloom elevate the place into a captivating view. There are sakura trees in most parts of the park, but they are mostly concentrated on the left and right sides facing the museum.
Benches, public washrooms, and a snack house with vending machines are also available, so you surely have everything you will ever need for fun and comfort if ever you get to visit.
The park is a must-see in any season of the year, but it shouldn't be missed when the sakura are in full bloom at the peak of spring!⁸

1 Chome-13-1 Sekinocho, Koganei, Tokyo 184-0001, Japan
Nestled in Koganei city, Western Tokyo, the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is a sprawling open-air historical theme park showcasing a diverse collection of Japanese structures from various periods. This museum serves as a preservation site for old buildings of cultural significance that could not be maintained in their original locations due to fires and air raids since the Edo period.
We came on a Tuesday morning and the park was quite empty, which made the experience more enjoyable because we can take our time to peacefully enjoy the buildings.
I would strongly recommend people to wear shoes that are light, easy to take off and put on, as many of the buildings require you to take off your shoes and carry them around while you are inside.
It took us around 4 hours to see the park, including lunch and photo stops. We had early lunch at the udon place around the eastern part of the complex, but their menu was limited (no sides, as well as very little menus that had meat toppings).

Beautiful historical buildings next to a huge park. One gets a glimpse of what it was like to live in those houses during EDO period. 400¥ pays out for for one visits some sort of art objects. Let your imagination tell you what kind of stories are hidden within those beautifully made wooden walls.
Also there is a nice cafe and udon place to rest.

It's a great place to witness history of Japanese life from Edo period. There are multiple houses, shops and artefacts showcasing daily life of old Japan. There is a museum as well and cafes and restaurants. It's a huge place so better have comfortable shoes and take time to go through each one. You are supposed to open shoes while entering the houses so kindly keep that in mind.
All in all, I am glad I went there.

A walk through the history and architecture of Japan.
The pamphlet was informative, and the houses were very interesting and peaceful to walk around. To see the influences of different architecture was fascinating and the gardens were beautifully curated.
There was a little restaurant serving dishes, which were tasty and cheap. The whole place is surrounded by a beautiful park, made more beautiful by the cherry blossom.

Really worth the visit! I enjoyed the variety of houses, stores and the bath displayed. The bath is particularly cool because you can't photograph a real one since there's usually people in it.
You can learn so much. It's amazing to see the big and small differences in structures and dynamics from the west!
It is better to go on a sunny day and I'd recommend wearing shoes that are easy to put on and take off (like Crocs, for instance).

Around 50 mins by public transport from Tokyo. It is a place where you are able to explore Japanese architecture from Edo to showa period. It is a large place so if you want to really take you time it will take at least half a day. We came on a weekday, in the morning there is not a lot of people. It is great to have the whole house just to yourself. There are lots of good spots for photos as well. Really enjoyed my time there.

I'll give this spot a 5/5 but there are some asterisks!
First, it is worth noting that this place is most definitely not very interesting to one who lacks an interest in history or architecture!
Otherwise me and my mate had a great time here on a summer Sunday, no queues, no big crowds, great park surrounding it, all and all a great day.
It IS somewhat out of the way, but should you find yourself nearby, it is well worth a visit I think. Especially with an entrance fee on the more modest side of things, 400 for normal and 320 for students.
Not the biggest spot spot in the world, but manage your expectations somewhat and I am sure you too, will have a great time.

One of my favourite open air park museums, feels like a little brother of my best museum in the country, Meiji-mura, the Meiji Village Museum in Aichi Prefecture, to me.
As the name of the museum says, there’re quite a few houses and buildings of significance, as well as historical architectures and structural objects, mainly from late Edo to early Showa era, moved and reconstructed as exhibits in this “park” in huge Tokyo municipal Koganei Park. Just walking in the park museum, you’ll feel its preciousness and magnificence, and vast ongoing efforts of the people concerned to preserve those artefacts.
Among many, my special recommendations go to the café restaurant open in the Georg de Lalande residence (completed in 1910) in the West Zone, and also the whole downtown street building exhibits and a streetcar in the East Zone.
The restaurants and events can be little crowded and time restraint sometimes, so, the time schedule checking and time allocation may be wise.
Xiro Ar (Alphonz) — Google review
Super cute museum, you can spend 3 hours here or more and time flies cause there are lots to see. I recommend to go during autumn or winter since summer might be too hot for an open air museum. It’s inside a park so it’s really chill and family oriented.

There are nine metropolitan gardens in Tokyo, but this one is my personal favorite. It's fun for its size, and it's nice to have a quiet hideaway.

Delightful city park. Compact but well curated. Known for its colours in autumn, with many maple trees. Very inexpensive to enter.
Please note no refreshments available inside, vending machine or otherwise. There is a tea room which is seldom open to the public.
The park features uneven paths and steps, please be careful when traversing. May not be suitable for some.

Small garden but a curious mix of European ornamental roses and traditional Japanese garden. The house is open for a separate fee.

Beautiful park, I visited in the rain and it was very clean and welcoming. Inexpensive to enter and the grounds are well groomed with signposts in English as well as Japanese. I especially liked the wisteria pavilion. It's worth it to stop by if you are in Kokubunji, it's less than 5 minutes walk from the station.

Beautiful little park, very serene and peaceful. Wouldn’t think it’s 100m from the station. A few nice spots to sit down and enjoy the view. Shelter overlooking the waterfall leading to a pond is great spot to relax.

Very pretty and quite cheap but be careful of mosquitoes as there are a lot of them

It was a nice little park with a different than usual layout because of the ravine. Has tea bushes, pines, bamboo, etc. Only 150 yen entrance fee so if you are in the area, can't go wrong.
Sarah Forsyth — Google review
A very fine and gorgeous traditional garden in Kokubunji. This Japanese garden is tailored on a pre-existing geology in the area, with different levels: in the lowest point there is a pond with koi fishes, then you climb some stone stairs to reach an observation point, with a Highland garden located on the highest point.
You can also rent a tearoom space.
I think it is worth taking a train for 20-30 minutes from Shinjuku to reach here!

A tranquil place with beautiful gardening and rich history. Excellent free Japanese guide. Don't know whether they have English guide though. End of Nov will be the best season to visit. Easy access from the station also.

Nestled on the scenic Mount Oyama, Oyama Afuri Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine renowned for its rainmaking deities. Visitors can reach the shrine by riding the new cable cars, offering breathtaking views of the Kanto plain and ocean. The shrine's young priest, 27th in a line of spiritual leaders, provides insightful guidance on the surprising history of the Oyama pilgrimage.
One of the best places to visit in autumn. The vibrant colors of the leaves would really take your breath away.
Going up, there are two options, hiking or riding the cable car(¥450 one way). Hiking has two options as well, Onna-zaka (easier way) or otoko-zaka (steeper way), both ways would entail walking lots of stairs! The steeper way is less crowded, hence more chances of seeing wild deers! Hiking takes about more or less than an hour depending on pace, it’s most important to take your time and enjoy!
There are food stalls selling mochis, coffee, sandwiches, soft cream, noodles and even beer near the shrine.
After the shrine, you can go all the way up to the summit of Mt. Oyama which takes about two hours or just get down by walking or by taking cable car. The last trip for cable car is at 5:00 on weekends and 4:30 on weekdays.
Getting here earlier would give more time to enjoy and relax!

Aburi-jinja in Isehara-city.
This god loves mountains and treats water. People begged him for the rain.
This shrine consists of two parts. At the end of the cable car,you can see "Shimosha". You pray your good fortune.it’s fine.
If you want to go to the top, you need physical strength and skill to go to the main shrine from there.

Oyama Afuri Shrine, as an ancient shrine protecting the Kanto region, has continued to hear the wishes of the people for more than 2,200 years. Even today, many people visit the shrine and its traditions and culture are passed down from generation to generation.

Leaves turn their color and you can enjoy and appreciate fall season there. The parking lot gets packed and you might have to wait for hours so it may be better to come by train. There are lots of short trails as well. You can either walk up or take a cable car.

Very peaceful shrine with very little foreigner. This is how a shrine should be, silent, peaceful. I’m positive that this place is still unseen for most tourist.
Please note that the shrine located on the mountain, so there’s a LOT of stair and on the way here was mostly stairs or slopes. Please be prepared. But I promised that it’s worth every single sweat!

The shrine is not anything majestic. Its like many other shrines around Tokyo and other places. But the natural panaromic view of the surrounding locality is wonderful. You can directly see even Enoshima Island from up there. The long stairway to the shrine looks very beautiful from the top.

It is a solemn and beautiful shrine.
The autumn leaves are so beautiful and amazing.
From the website
Oyama Afuri Shrine is a ceremonial shrine that is said to have been built during the reign of Emperor Sujin, the 10th Emperor of Japan, more than 2,200 years ago. Since ancient times, Sagami Province has been revered as a sacred mountain for the protection of the Kanto region. Jomon pottery, which is thought to have been used for rituals, has been unearthed from the summit, which is 1,252 meters above sea level, testifying to the ancient history of the mountain. Daisen is also known as "Amefuriyama" and has been widely loved. The name Amefuri is said to have originated from the fact that clouds and fog always form over the mountains, causing rain.

If you just want to go sightseeing, take a cable car and go shrine.
If you want to go mountain climbing, then go further after cable car.
It takes about 90mins on the way, 60mins on the way back. On top of the mountain doesn't have much, but you can bring your food and enjoy.
Mount Oyama, standing at 1,252 meters tall, is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts seeking breathtaking panoramic views. The mountain has a rich history dating back over 2000 years to the founding of the original Oyama Afuri Jinja Shrine. Accessible from Isehara Station, just an hour's train ride from Shinjuku, visitors can choose to hike the trails or take the Oyama Cable Car up to the shrine.
We started at around 8:30 from Isehara station. Bus #10 takes about 30 minutes to the Oyama Ropeway station. Then we walked some 360 stairs to the ropeway entrance. The ropeway is scheduled 3 times per hour, retour costs some 1150yen. After the ropeway, we hiked the direct trail to the top. Not long, but very tiring. Backwards we took the trail towards Miharashidai. Longer, but easier, and there are beautiful views too. We got on the bus at around 15:00, and then went from the Isehara station to the Tokaidaigaku-mae station by train. There we relaxed in the Hadano Natural Onsen Sazanka.

We climbed Mt. Oyama on 9th March 2024. At this point most of the upper part of the mountain is covered with snow, and sometimes it gets slippery when you encounter hard snow, be careful and be prepared. The cable car stops the operations after 5 Pm, so plan accordingly.
The view from top is beautiful, and to explore more of it I hope you climb it yourself and experience the beauty 😍😍.

You can have a nice one-day trip here either by seeing the stalls at the Shimoja station using the cable car or by just hiking to the mountain top.

Very nice hiking trail went in early September. I recommend taking the cable car if you are a not a expert hiker. The trail is very steep, rocky, muddy and slippery. So please wear either sneakers with traction or hiking shoes. The scenery is great and there is a noodle shop at the top of the mountain. If you choose to drive to the cable car station there is a guy who has a parking lot for ¥700 for the whole day. Overall loved the hike…almost died but enjoyed the adventure.😂☺️

Climbed this beautiful mountain on a late summer morning in July. The trail was not very difficult and if you are in good health, you should be able to climb this fairly quickly. However, don’t expect to get a view of Mt. Fuji from at the summit. You’ll get to see Fuji-san on your way up to the summit.
This mountain attracts a decent crowd over the weekends so you’ll see a lot of people on your way up and down.

This is the medium level trek. Most of the times it rains there so better prepare for it.
Torch is also recommended!
Sunset is beautiful from Top!
At the base there are many onsen resorts, so you can refresh it.
There are three main points but you can cover at the time two easily (Oyama Afuri shrine & Hinata Yakushi temple).
Better to start early in the morning.

A beautiful mountain climb and definitely doable if you have a reasonable level of fitness. Catching the train from Tokyo to Isehara station and then a bus to the mountain, a short 10min walk to the cable car and then making about a 1-2 hike up the mountain you reach the top woth views of Mt fuji, the coast and tokyo (if you can see it with the smog). If you intend on doing this hike I suggest bringing some watch and some food. We did some shopping at the 7/11 at Isehara station before leaving.

There is a ropeway, but it took us about 90 minutes up a steep slope to the summit! It was by no means an easy journey. The westward route was extremely hard with rolling rocks! The eastbound route was relatively easy with paved stairs. From near the summit we could see the beautiful Mt. Fuji. In addition, from the summit station, if you go down the mountain without the ropeway, you get to enjoy some incredibly steep stairs! We were satisfied with our hard climbing. Also, the restaurant near the summit ropeway station was very good. And the souvenir shop at the base of the mountain was just as traditional and fabulous! Fantastic Place!!

Great place for a day trip if you’re near Isehara. Apparently you can hike up there but we took the 15 min cable car. On a sunny day you can look as far as Enoshima Island from the temple.

Big shocker guys, in the winter there's no toilet for the entire hike starting for the shrine (shimosha), and the lopped trail by the book is at least 3 hours including break and photo. Scenary is awesome like most mountain and won't disappoint.
Also, the trail is quite old and for anyone with similar knee aches, I highly recommend going clockwise starting from shimosha, this way you'd come down with an easier trail that won't hurt your articulation as much.
Also, dears on these mountains are real. Remember to stay away and no feeding

Sayama Park, established in 1951, offers a serene escape for visitors to Lake Tama. The park features wooded lakeshores ideal for leisurely strolls amidst spring cherry blossoms and vibrant autumn foliage. It is conveniently located near Seibu-Yuenchi Station and boasts amenities such as a children's play area and clean public restrooms. Despite its heavily wooded interior, the park remains easily accessible on foot even during dry weather.
I'm living nearby but it's my first time to visit this park. Though no more colored maple trees or autumn leaves but still breathtaking view. Most especially the lake side, though no view of Fuji san during my visit. Anyways, will definitely come back in spring, hope to see a glimpse of Fuji san next time.

Very clean big park located close to Seibu-Yuenchi Station. Park has got a kids play area and clean public toilets. The interior is heavily wooded but on a dry day all paths remain passable on foot. You feel like you are in the middle of a forest yet few hundred meters away from the town. The park has a small pond and the park borders the Tama lake. There is also an amusement park located nearby.

First time to see dome tour concert and it sounded so far away. Not sure if it is the nature of dome concert or because it is an open air dome or because we were sitting at the edge. The stage feels ok even we were almost at the end of the hall but binocular would help a lot if you wanna see the artist.
Lot of food shops outside but kinda bad mostly.
Toilet was a disaster with super long queue.
We leaved quite early just before the concert ended so we successfully escaped the super pack train on the way back.

Fun stadium but it's a bit out of the way. It's a trek to get to from Kanagawa, but there is good food and beer here. I recommend bringing a fan because it's stuffy under the roof. There is ample parking about an 8 minute walk, but the train station exit is at the gates to the stadium.
The stadium takes credit card at basically every kiosk and there are plenty of bathrooms. The atmosphere for the game was alright, but not stellar. It's worth the trip if you want to see the Lions play.

Excellent place for a stadium! In Japan almost all big events are somewhat ruined because of the traffic and the sheer amount of people, not the Belluna Dome. This place is in a great location. I was able to drive to the game 20 mins early park with no problem, left when the game ended and there was no traffic, I was shocked. The stadium is somewhat small but not too small. Everything about this dome is great! I will surely be going again :)

Vishnu Reddy — Google review
Ah yes, the truly wonderful Metlife (now named Belluna) Dome.
I came here for a concert in early March 2023. It did not rain so that's great, but it can get really cold in both the arena and stands. I've heard from others that when it rains, the rain comes in through the sides and you can get rained on, not great.
The biggest issue anyone will tell you about this venue is how out-of-the-way it is. It's one of the terminating stops on the Seibu Line, and the Seibu Line is the only line that connects this venue with the main Tokyo city. So, what happens when a few thousand or a few tens of thousands of people try to get back to the city at the same time, on the only train line out of the location? Yeah. The time to get back to the city on an express train is about 40 minutes.
Ryan Tan — Google review
Seats were comfortable (Section 106). The hike up to the top and then all the steps down can be arduous. Try to go through main walkway to section rather than around the outside loop.
No breeze, so the heat & humidity stay under the Dome roof.

A fantastic atmosphere watching the Seibu Lions vs Rakuten Eagles. It felt a very special occasion in a superb arena.

Our visit to Belluna/Seibu Dome in Japan for a baseball game was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between fun and laid-back. The presence of food vendors outside the stadium entrance added to the excitement, and the friendly and relaxed security measures made us feel welcome. Inside, we found an array of food options, souvenir vendors, and a team store. The stadium's layout, complete with maps, made it easy to navigate and explore all the drink and food offerings. Meeting the mascots and taking photos with them added to the charm of the place. Our seats were fantastic, providing a great view just a couple of rows behind the left field fence. Overall, our visit exceeded our expectations in every way. The stadium itself was beautiful and well-maintained, and we felt safe throughout our time there. We're eagerly looking forward to coming back for another game.

Went to Gaga's show. The show was outstanding, one of a kind.
The venue has lots to improve. The sound was very good (much better than Tokyo Dome). The food stands are all kinda trashy and the food was not particularly good. The line for the women's toilets was INSANE.
MAIN ISSUE: access. This venue is owned by a train company, yet it is a mess to access using public transport. For this reason I really hope I NEVER have to go back to Belluna. Tokyo Dome and Saitama Super Arena are much better venues due to their location.
Pablo Velasco (Jpanese) — Google review

Mount Tō is a vast mountain range with various trail markers, stairs, and huts for climbing, hiking, and mountaineering. On weekdays, the teahouses along the trail are closed except for one at the top that also functions as a hotel where visitors can only consume cupramen and canned beer. The hike itself is challenging but can be done at a slower pace to enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery along the way.

I took the route from okura bus stop to Tonotake, which people don’t recommend anyone because it dosen’t have any scenic view though challenging one.
I felt great after reaching the summit and I will take about 6hours if you don’t take break much.
They have cottage with restaurant so no worries
Toilet are not free you have to pay 100yen.
Tanzawa mountains are not clearly mentioned in google, so you have to get some local knowledge
From today follow odakyu line to shibuzawa station and take bus to okura bus stop they you could start your trekking
Cottage costs from 6000yen with breakfast dinner included
If you are aiming for Mt.Tanzawa itself, will take about 9hours for the trek, so be prepared.

Nabewariyama is a popular destination for day hikes and climbs, surrounded by forest and offering scenic views from its summit. A mountain hut is also available at the top. The hike itself is steep for approximately 3 kilometers, so appropriate hiking shoes are recommended. Despite being popular and busy with people queuing up for nabe (a local hot pot dish), it's possible to secure a serving without issue.
We went there at the very end of March. Started at Okura bus stop at 8:30 am and walked all the way to the top (arrived around 12pm). The hike is pretty steep for about 3 kilometers and i highly recommend good shoes for hiking! We were worried the nabe would be sold out, but fortunately, despite many people standing in line, we managed to get two nabes. The visibility was not that good and we were able to see just a top of Mount Fuji far away. I definitely recommend it, probably best time in autumn/winter to see Fuji. Just be prepared for pretty intense hike!

An interesting one-day trekking. From Shibusawa station, we took the bus to Okura bus stop. The hike was medium level with some steep areas. The staff were really friendly. The place was okay. But the art at Odaiba Trick Art Museum is so much better.
Here the rooms are small so you don’t have the space for the perspective to work as it should. On top of that the places marked to stand to take the photos is right in front of the door so people just keep walking in front of you.
It was busy and we found most people were just plain rude and would actually just push the children out of the way as they were trying to explore the art.
There’s a lot more variety of various art than at odaiba so maybe on a quieter day it would have been much better.
However, today I can’t say I enjoyed the experience.

My visit to Takaosan Yakuōin Yukiji Temple was truly memorable, combining spirituality with adventure amidst the stunning natural beauty of Mount Takao. The trekking experience leading up to the temple was invigorating, offering breathtaking views of lush forests and serene landscapes along the way. The well-marked trails and gentle slopes made the ascent enjoyable for adventurers of all levels.
Upon reaching the temple, I was greeted by a sense of tranquility and reverence. The ancient architecture and serene surroundings provided a serene sanctuary for reflection and meditation. The temple's history and cultural significance added depth to the experience, making it more than just a stop along the trail.
After exploring the temple grounds, I opted for the ropeway descent, which offered a thrilling aerial perspective of the mountain and surrounding area. The panoramic views were simply spectacular, making the descent both exhilarating and memorable.
While my experience was nearly flawless, I deducted one star due to the occasional crowds and wait times, particularly during peak seasons. Despite this minor inconvenience, Takaosan Yakuōin Yukiji Temple remains a must-visit destination for nature lovers, spiritual seekers, and adventure enthusiasts alike.

Love this place I try to get here as much as I can. This time I did the full hike which only took less than 1.5hr to the top. Unfortunately trails 4 and 6 were covered in snow so I’ll be back on a warmer day. Great views of Fuji-San on this day.

If you love hiking, this is the place for beginners to go up to the top and on a good clear day, Mt. Fuji can be seen. A good attraction just outside Tokyo central (1hr 20+ mins from Shinjuku)

Beautiful shrine with a lot of statues. The design on the door of the temple is really amazing. It’s near from the takao summit.

Beautiful Temple in the Mountain represent mountain god (tengu). Statues of the gods, one with a long nose and one with a crow beak, can be found at the temple and also other spots around the mountain.

Very beautiful and I interesting place. Not too crowded on a Sunday. Cooler than being in the city. If you take the lift the walk up the mountain isn't too steep. You can visit with children.

Yakuoin Temple [高尾山藥王院] of Takao Mountain, initially built in 744 AD, worships the Medicine God, although current major worship halls were built in 1729 and 1753 and were renovated and expanded a few times in 18th and 19th centuries.
While visitors of Yakuoin Temple may be impressed at Temple complex, but mountain road from cable car station of Yakuoin Temple to the Temple itself is an ultimate tour attraction because it has many maple leaves trees and other types of trees, especially cedar trees. Temple does have cedar Tree project to increase planting cedar trees after evidence indicates that its initially planted cedar trees did survive the hurricane and became the windbreak for the temple and mountain road.
Both Yakuoin Temple and Takao Mountain are popular spots for religious worshippers and non-religious visitors and mountain hikers and climbers. Thus, rail transportations and cable trains/cars to the Takao Mountain can be long waiting in weekends, holidays, and in religious days. To save time for waiting for ticket purchase for cable trains/cars, it is better for visitors to buy discounted packaged tickets for Keio Rail Tickets and Cable Trains/Cars, and visitors can save time for waiting for ticket purchase. However, in weekends and holidays, almost every spot, including toilets, ice cream shops, and temple's service counters, have long lines and require wait time of 20 minutes or longer.
While Temple does not disallow visitors to bring their pets to the Temple, it is probably safer for visitors not to bring their pets to visit the Temple when there are huge crowds of visitors. Pets should not feel pressure for congestion either.

Took cable car up Mt Takao. The cable car is the steepest one in Japan. From the drop off point, we still have to walk to the temple. We passed many trees, monuments, statues, shops, attractions , people before we reach the temple.

Nice hike close to Tokyo about an hour from central, lots of beautiful temples and shrines and feels really good to be walking amongst nature.
Family friendly, you can choose to go up and down by cable car or hike up with many different trails with varying difficulty.
Going in summer can be very challenging due to the heat and humidity even on the easiest track (track 1), and is actually a bit steep. While the walk itself was nice, the view at the end was underwhelming but maybe that was because of the cloudy weather.

Gorgeous! The hike to the top of the mountain was tough for this family but so worth it. We took the ski lift on the way down to rest our legs. It was so worth every step. We had a beautiful view of Tokyo and Mount Fuji. We visited the monkey park. Our boys loved it!

The autumn foliage is lovely to view here. It is pretty accessible too, as there are cable cars and chair lifts to this area. There are plenty of vendors selling festival type foods too~ But it is very busy because of the festival. And if you collect Goshuin, expect to wait in long line. It is peak season, so it is understandable, but it took about an 1 hour and 45 minutes to get the stamp on a weekday. If you do want a stamp, come early~

(Translated by Google) It is not a tourist destination and is a scenic spot in the metropolitan area where there are fewer people and you can enjoy nature to the fullest.

(Translated by Google) Yushin Blue is currently unavailable! !
I visited in April 2020.
At the end of March 2020, the forest road to Yushin Valley was fully opened, so you can still go to Kumaki Dam.
However, the point to be careful is that everyone, including myself, is probably looking for Ushin Blue.
Unfortunately, both Kurokura and Kumaki dams were unable to store water due to a disaster several years ago and are now completely drained. Therefore, Yushin Blue cannot be seen.
According to the website, water storage will start again around January 2020, so I think we'll be able to see Yushin Blue again after that.
I'm looking forward to that day.
I visited at the end of April because I had some free time during Golden Week and because I wanted to check the current situation.
It is about an hour and a half walk from the free parking lot next to Kurokura Shoten to Kurokura Dam. It takes about 3 hours to get to Kumaki Dam.
There are toilets and vending machines next to the parking lot, so make your final preparations here.
The journey seems to be a series of very gentle climbs, but it doesn't feel strenuous.
The road is well maintained, but there are traces of falling rocks in some places.
If there is a direct hit during this year's typhoon season, I don't know what will happen again.
Even if you can't see Yushin Blue, it's a good hike in terms of route and time, and the scenery is good, so I recommend it.
Above all, there are not many people! ! I guess this is the most appealing thing. Even though it was during Golden Week, I only passed a few people.
It's a nice and quiet place.

Mount Takao, also known as Takaosan, is a 599-meter-tall peak located within an hour of Shinjuku station in Tokyo. It has been a pilgrimage site for over 1,200 years and offers a mix of traditional Japanese culture and natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, a funicular railway, and the opportunity to visit the Yakuo-in temple. The summit provides stunning views of Tokyo and Mount Fuji on clear days.
There is a cable car or ski lift that takes you near the summit. In addition, there is a beautiful, paved path from the cable car station to the summit. The path to the summit is easy for everyone. And of course, you get to enjoy the unpaved mountain trails! Religious facilities create a solemn atmosphere near the summit. With a good selection of restaurants, this is the perfect place for a casual hike up the mountain!
Rintaro — Google review
We went for a casual hike to Takao-san. Super easy to get to via the Keio line from Shinjuku station. Make sure to grab the special/limited express train to get to Takaosanguchi station a little faster. After that it's a short (but super crowded) walk, starting at the right of the station, and up to the cable car station at the base of the mountain.
We went up the Inariyama trail which starts to the left of the cable car station entrance. A little steep here and there but a very enjoyable walk up. The summit was very crowded and views were so-so, would advise taking a quick look and then spending more time on the trails. We took the Summit loop (trail 5) around the top and descended via Suspension bridge trail (trail 4), did the Kasumidai loop (trail 2) and then switched to Biwa waterfall (trail 6) for the rest of the way down.
These trails avoid the crowds on trails 1 (Omotesando) and 3 (Katsura forest), and are really enjoyable to walk. Going much earlier in the morning is the best way to avoid crowds but there are certainly ways to minimize it by taking some of the 'harder' or 'steeper' routes which shouldn't be a challenge for most people at an average fitness level. Would recommend outdoor/hiking shoes, sneakers are fine as long as you don't mind them getting dirty.
At the cable car station at the foot of the mountain, there are a lot of Japanese food stalls, worth trying and to support the local economy. With a nice clean park nearby, it's worth enjoying a small bite to eat and a local beer after a nice day out on the trails.

Only 45min by train from Shinjuku Station, Takao Mountain is a great option for a hike in the nature. I suggest to get to Takaosan-guchi station of Keio Line (there is also JR line, but it is far form the start of the hiking trail). There are different routes to get to the top, but I suggest to take the alternative routes and not the pain, paved one, since is its very crowded and steep. You can get to the top in around 2 hours. I also suggest the sento (hot public bath) at the Takaosan-guchi Station. I also enjoyed the monkey zoo and the Tengu temple. In summertimes, there is also a beer garden but it was way too crowded.

Great place to spend a day in nature, just an hour away from Tokyo. Several different trails to get to the summit. I found trail 6 to be quite pleasant, and easy, with the exception of the last stretch before the summit, which has a lot of steps.
Trail 1 might seem the easiest one, as it’s paved and half the path can be done on the cable car or chair lift. However, the path is quite steep, and in my opinion there is too many people going up and down all the time, which in my opinion, doesn’t allow to experience the beautiful nature of the mountain.

I decided to climb Mount Takao this past weekend. I had brought a backpack with my overnight gear, camera, laptop, snacks, and a couple of bottles of water. My intention was to put everything except the water in a locker at the train station but all of the lockers were taken. I had no choice but to carry my heavy load with me.
You can probably guess what happened. With each ascending step, the backpack felt heavier and heavier. After about an hour, I was sweating profusely and breathing hard. When I stopped to rest and drink some water, I noticed that the lift station for the ropeway was close by.
I felt a bit of shame taking the lift down the mountain but I told myself it was better than potentially coming down in an ambulance.
There’s a nice onsen next to the Keio station. I relaxed there while waiting for my group to finish the climb.

It is one of the best day trips from Tokyo I did!
We got there by train which is easily accessible. We decided for the chair lift up (a cable car is available as well) and walked the remaining way up to the summit. Prices for both are low. It is easy to walk though it might be still exausting, when your body isn't used to much activity. We intended to walk down.
The summit offers such an awesome view of the mountainous nature around and even free view of Fuji-san as long as the weather is good enough. We didn't know about Fuji views and were so overwhelmed by it! What a luck we had.
Way down we choose Trail 6. It seemed to be a nice walk through the woods at first. Then a staircase down the steepest parts and down the dale we reached the beginnings of the small stream that results in Biwa Falls. The trail is not easy even desending when you're no trained person. The trail within the dale leads directly through the water. You'll have to walk through it or have to walk from stone to stone keeping shoes dry. This continues some time and offers an awesome view like going through rainforest. I loved it. Around half the way the trail continues as a small path so walking gets easier. White sneaker won't stay white here.
Totally worth the hike. Restaurants at the starting point offer you food to get your energy levels (re)filled.
Takao-san is more crowded than e.g. Mitake-san, but definitely offers the better view.

A offbeat hike in Tokyo. The journey through the suburbs to Mount Takao is very scening and this is a great spot considering access from the city center. There are a lot of shrines and various trails with the encompassing views. The access to the trails are via cable car or open chair, the open chair being more enthralling and adrenaline rushing.

My friend and I embarked on an incredible hiking adventure, starting from the base of the mountain and ascending all the way to its summit. This journey proved to be an absolute gem, undoubtedly one of the most memorable hikes of my life. The vistas along the way were absolutely breathtaking, offering expansive views of the majestic mountain landscape and the sprawling metropolis of Tokyo below.
As we reached the pinnacle, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a fantastic restaurant perched at the summit. It was an unexpected treat that added a touch of luxury to our outdoor escapade. On the descent, we meandered through a myriad of enchanting shrines, each one a testament to Tokyo's rich cultural heritage.
I wholeheartedly recommend this hike to anyone visiting Tokyo. It's a must-do experience that combines natural beauty, cultural exploration, and a delightful culinary surprise at the mountain's zenith.

Mount Takao, used as a sacred site for over 1000 years, is 599 meters tall and especially popular among couples, families, and the elderly. For those who want to shorten the journey, there is a cable car available. It is located about an hour away by train from Shinjuku Station. Along the path to the summit, there is a Buddhist temple and numerous food and rest areas.

One of the most scenic climbs in Tokyo. We went on a weekday and it was not as busy as advertised. Highly recommend going early in the morning as you and nature will be the only ones there.
Get to the top to enjoy the views of Mt Fuji on a clear day and take the open chair lift down for a unique and picturesque experience.

If you take the Keiō Line Semi Special Express from Shinjuku to Takaosanguchi, you can reach Takaosanguchi station directly without transferring at Kitano.

Taking Trail 1 takes between 90mins to 2 hours depending on athleticism.
Final view of My Fuji at the summit well worth the hike. Best time of the year to go is Winter where the weather likely allows for Mt Fuji to be visible.

I'll never travel to Hokuto without this trip planner again

This mountain is great for moderate hiking. There are both safe trails and dangerous trails for adventurous people. The scene at the top of the mountain is picturesque. There are some food stores and drink vending machines along the way so you do not have to worry about those. For those who wanted to use the cable lift here, it gets crowded at times so be prepared to wait.

Javier G. Visiedo — Google review
Moderate hike, aside from the summit, some highlights were the beautiful hydrangeas in bloom, the giant ancient cedar trees and the visit to the shrine.
Recommend getting the round trip discounted tickets and cable car/chair lift package from Shinjuku station !

A classic hike in Tokyo. There are better places to hike if you're willing to travel further from the city, but this is a great spot considering access from the city center. There are a lot of shrines and other things to see. There are multiple hiking routes, or the cable car to the top.

Of course don‘t go there while the weather is cloudy. Then you can‘t see Mt. Fuji. The way up itself is not very entertaining.

Very scenic hike. I took trail 6 up and it gets a bit challenging near the top. Then walk down trail 1 to pass through the temples and buy a souvenir. Would definitely come again in warmer weather to hike the other trails.

Kazuma-no-Yu is a day-trip hot spring located in Kazuma, Hinohara Village, and was the first of its kind to open about 30 years ago.
It's over 30km from Musashi-Itsukaichi Station, so it's not a place that many people can get to right away, but it's not too crowded until around 3pm when the mountain hikers arrive.
The baths and facilities are small, but the hot springs are slightly slippery and the water is clean and great.

Hinohara Tokyo Citizens' Forest, located on Mt Mito, is a forest therapy destination that offers various hiking routes through tranquil mountain woods. Visitors can experience the Japanese concept of forest bathing by immersing themselves in nature and relieving stress while soaking in the soothing sights and sounds. The Waterfall Course is recommended for those who want to try forest bathing. The park features hiking trails ranging from 0.9 to 7.
A beautiful and interesting forest of mixed trees including old beech trees, which are rare for the Kanto area. Accessibility is a factor in how appealing it will be for foreign visitors. There's a special rapid train on the Chuo Line that runs directly to Musashi-Itsukaichi station on weekends and holidays. Otherwise, transfer is required. From there, there is limited bus service to the forest -- only three buses in the a.m. But they run multiple buses to accommodate all the hikers April to November, so you're generally able to sit for the rather long and winding -- though scenic -- one-hour and about 900 yen ride. All those hikers seem to disappear somehow, though -- the trails are only moderately busy on big holidays and autumn leaf season. There are easy one-hour hikes and longer 4-5 hour moderately strenuous ones requiring proper footwear. At 1500 meters, it's also cooler and more prone to rain than Tokyo proper. There is a visitor center and two places to get food -- mostly typical noodles and curry. With a waterfall, various wildflowers and birds, a few good views, and fresh air, it's a nice place to experience nature if you're willing to put in the effort.

Definitely an must visit place if you are Japan. One of the beautiful places I visited. Prefered time to visit is autumn. You can get busses from Okutama station to Lake Okutama. The journey with mountains valleys and autumn colours will be amazing to see. Get down at the dam and spend sometime there. But the real view comes later take the bus from the dam again and get down at Ideno bus stop. This place seems like no where but if you walk a little 100m from the bus stop you can find a opening that will lead you down hill and directly to the bank of the lake. I hiked up to the lake from Okutama station, took about 3 hours, then had lunch and a beer on the other side of the dam. The views were absolutely stunning!
I then ventured around the lake. My target was the pontoon bridge, which I reached after about 3 hours of walking. All flat, so not challenging, but I was already tired from the hike. I ran out of water about halfway through, and there was no opportunity to get some more, all of the taps along the way weren't fit for drinking. I think taking a 2 litre bottle should be enough for a hot day.
Last bus from near the temple is about 5:30 I think, so I was in a bit of a rush at the end, and unfortunately, I didn't get to explore the temple.
Still, keep an eye out for monkeys, the newborns can be spotted in late spring/early summer!
